Ben could see that most of the team were still struggling with the gestures used by the Asrai, he himself had noticed about a dozen different ones in the relative short time they were here and could only reproduce half of them with any degree of certainty. The culture, thought primitive, was complex. After the discussion Salid suggested they retire to the travellers hall and assigned him and Sanok to await Signos should she not return before the main group left, Ben was hoping she wouldn't so he could confer with his friend and get his perspective on the Asrai. Only a short time later Jessica showed up and the group was complete and then they moved on to the travellers hall. As they moved back through the market Ben saw a couple more hand signals that caught his attention though he wasn't close enough to ascertain their meaning. He noticed several Asrai conducting business as well as a number of children playing in the street, one of which looked towards him smiled and waved, Ben smiled and waved back recognizing the child that ran into him when he and Mike set out for the shrine. He also took notice of what he considered to be the local law enforcement, they tried blending in but to the trained eye they were easy to pick out. He hadn't noticed them before and wondered what had happened to draw them out. They reached the the hall and entered where they were greeted by the establishments master who appeared quite pleased they had arrived, he seemed a little over zealous in stating that all their needs would be seen to. To Ben he seemed a little to friendly, but the Captain offered extra coins to him for keeping out of their affairs and the Asrai accepted them with greedy hands and thanked Salid for his continued generosity. They were ushered to their rooms, which upon examination were connected from within. The Captain told them to rest and refresh as required and meet back up in the main chamber in an hour to discuss further plans. When everyone had went their own way Ben walked over to Mike to see what he had learned from his scan at the shrine. "Find anything interesting from the scan?" Ben asked. (reply Rosenbauer) "That is interesting." He replied. "To bad we couldn't get a closer look at this sacred light." (reply Rosenbauer) "True." Ben responded. "They do seem to hold it's secrets very close. I'm curious as to what this Solyon the Destroyer refers to, could the Asrai have been warned about the rogue by an advanced culture, possibly even someone from the future?" (reply Rosenbauer) "Everything is speculation at this point of course." Ben said. "We need to find something concrete. Maybe I should consider accepting the priests offer to throw down the robes of the merchant and take up those of the Releiquery." (reply Rosenbauer) "It's something we can bring to the Captain's attention." He said. He left Mike then to review his readings and went over to Sanok. "Find anything that caught your attention my friend." Ben asked and for a moment he could have sworn he saw the briefest flicker of panic cross the Vulcan's face, but only for a moment. (reply Sanok) (posted by Milo Young) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Traveler's Hall - YEO, Lt. Mike Rosenbauer- Day 10- 1612) Once they'd been ushered into their rooms, Ben wasted no time relaxing. he was obviously a man on the mission which suited Mike perfectly well. "Find anything interesting from the scan?" Ben asked. Mike withdrew the small tricorder and handed it to Soma. "I got a rough structural scan, and some pattern interference that was indicative of some sort of low-powered electroplasma, but there's some other interference here that makes the scans inconclusive. I think the material that was encasing the light may have some sort of beam scattering properties. It doesn't mean anything yet, but I found it interesting nonetheless." he replied. "That is interesting." He replied. "To bad we couldn't get a closer look at this sacred light." "I agree. maybe we could see about making a trip late at night to see if the place is guarded or accessible. The attendants seem to be pretty secretive, so it's a risk." He commented. "True." Ben responded. "They do seem to hold its secrets very close. I'm curious as to what this Solyon the Destroyer refers to, could the Asrai have been warned about the rogue by an advanced culture, possibly even someone from the future?" "I don't know," Mike replied with a shrug, "but if it refers to the rogue planet, that opens up some interesting conjecture. If it's merely mythology, then it isn't helpful to us at all." "Everything is speculation at this point of course." Ben said. "We need to find something concrete. Maybe I should consider accepting the priest's offer to throw down the robes of the merchant and take up those of the Reliquary." "Do you think that's an option? How long would it take before you might discover something of value, or worse, what if you are sent someplace very unfriendly?" "It's something we can bring to the Captain's attention." Ben said. "True." Mike agreed, "If nothing else it's one more option we didn't have before." (no reply needed) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Market Place - Lt. Sanok - 1620) Soma said, "Find anything that caught your attention, my friend?" "Indeed," said Sanok. "Everything about this place has caught my attention." He went on to explain everything that had happened, from the two boys on the street, to the inn and the proprietor, to the boys again, and to the law enforcement officials. "The Asrai are a thriving people. It is a shame that someone decreed many years ago, that there would be nothing wrong with allowing them to die, simply because they didn't know as much as those making the decree." (reply Soma iyw) (posted by Bob B.) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Market Place -CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma - 1622) Sanok told Ben everything that had happened to him, the boys seemed to be pests but one of them was apparently influential. His friend was able to talk to the local authorities and get out of any trouble that might have arisen from the encounter, perhaps that was what lead to the increased presence of the local law enforcement officials. "The Asrai are a thriving people. It is a shame that someone decreed many years ago, that there would be nothing wrong with allowing them to die, simply because they didn't know as much as those making the decree." "I agree." Ben said. "It is unfortunate but it was also a necessity, a line had to be drawn somewhere. It's just hard to accept when your the one standing on the front line and not merely reading some report back at HQ. We all swore to uphold the Prime Directive, but in this situation you wish you could blur that line a little. The Azrai have potential, they are very artistic judging from the architecture in the city. They are intelligent, and from what I've seen so far they are very peaceful. Who knows what they will accomplish in the next century." (reply Sanok iyw) (posted by Milo Young) ---------------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Market Place - Lt. Who knows what they will accomplish in the next century?" "The only ones blurring the line, are the fools that sit behind desks," said Sanok. "They have twisted the Prime Directive into something it should never have become. Think of the arrogance of what we are doing here. If *we* decide these people are bad or evil, we will allow them to be destroyed by the rogue planet, when we have the means to save them. The only thing preventing the Asrai from saving themselves, is a lack of technological knowledge. As I stated in our briefing back on the ship, if this was happening to the Klingons from the 23rd century, a great threat to peace and safety, they would have simply saved themselves. The United Federation of Planets and Starfleet are great organizations, but to make this about what kind of people the Asrai are or may become, is..." Sanok stopped, anger beginning to well inside him. He closed his eyes and did a quick breathing exercise to enhance emotional control. When he was finished, he opened his eyes and looked at the bustling crowd in the market. Sanok and Ben had never discussed or debated the Prime Directive. Though it was something on which he had strong feelings, this was not the place for that discussion. "Signos has returned," said Sanok in a quiet voice. "It is time to leave with the others." Without waiting for Ben to respond, he took a position of a bodyguard and observed the surroundings as the group headed for the inn. (reply Soma iyw) (posted by Bob B.) -------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Traveler's Hall - CMO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 10 - 1700) Since no-one else was invited to sit whilst the Captain spoke to Darsel, Josh remained standing slightly behind and to one side of him allowing her eyes to roam around the interior and playing once again with the jewel on the chain around her neck. She hoped that this discussion would not take too long since she had a crashing headache and wanted nothing more that to find somewhere private to access the small store of herbs that she had brought along with her in the bottom of her bag. Thankfully the Captain didn't seem as willing as Darsel to prolong their discussion and shortly they were being shown to their suite of rooms. Josh immediately walked into the first room and noticing a nightstand with a jug and two cups crossed to it and poured herself a drink of water. "Okay everyone, take a look around and get comfortable. we'll have a short discussion in 1 hour, which should everyone a chance to formulate their contributions, rest and refresh as needed. You are all dismissed until then, stay close for the time being." Once everyone left Josh gave a sigh of relief and rooting around in her bag brought out a small vial of herbs. Tipping a small amount into the water she had poured for herself she stirred it with her finger and then downed it in one. "Nameeya, a moment of your time, privately." Nodding Josh crossed to the outer doors and closed and locked them. Crossing to the connecting ones she closed them but left them unlocked. Walking back to the middle of the room she stopped and pressing her fingers over the bridge of her nose in the hope that it might alleviate the pain in her head, she, rather than answer the Captain, simply raised an eyebrow in a questioning gesture knowing that he would understand. (Reply Salid) (Posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Traveller's Hall - aCMO Lieutenant (JG) Tayla Fraiser - Day 10 - 1755) Tayla stopped outside the room where the meeting was to be held and said, "Parker, what's going on here, with us i mean?" (Reply Davies) She smiled and said, "How did i know you were going to say that?" (Reply Davies) Smiling again, she replied, "Shall we go in? Otherwise i might have to kiss you again and we'd get caught." (Reply Davies) She smiled and, letting go of his hand, walked into the room. Spotting a few others dotted about the room, she made her way towards the bed and took a seat next to Josh and Jessica. Smiling to them both, she waited patiently for the briefing to begin. "Ok. The Captain and I have made a start on deciphering the language, however I think our biggest stumbling block will be getting the gestures down pat. Until we can crack them we are at a serious disadvantage. Tayla, I know this is an imposition but would you be able to use your 'empathic talent' to try to find out what various gestures mean please?" Josh asked and as he opened her mouth to reply, another spoke, "Sirs, if I may. I've received very specific training in this respect. Most of my life I've studied facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice. Though I don't know the cultural or emotional meaning of many of the gestures, my training has made it so I can very easily pick them up and remember them. If Dr. Fraiser and I worked together, we could do a walk-through in the town and as I pick up what the gestures are, she could identify what their assigned emotions are." "I have no doubt this is the case," the captain replied, " but I have a different assignment in mind for you Eian. one that I will get to shortly. Doctor Fraiser," he continued, looking at her. She nodded as he continued, "If you agreed to undertake this task, I would like to team you with Sanok and Signos. In this manner the three of you can easily blend in, and should be able to move freely through most portions of the city. Sanok can portray a bodyguard, to yourself and Signos, and I think that would work well enough for our purposes. Both Signos and Sanok are trained observers and are therefore capable of performing the same task that O'Neill would have, which is to say observing, and with two of them, they can observe more area at a given time. I'd like for you to brainstorm it amongst you three and see what you can come up with." Tayla looked at the other two and said, "Sir, i'll be happy to use my empathic side in this nature. If it will help, i'm all for it." "O'Neill, You and Matrix, need to make a wide survey of the area. You might start with the seminaries, and any other public areas or buildings. Get a look around and start trying to find some level of technology." Tayla listened to the rest of the briefing with an interest and found herself watching each person as they spoke. Their emotions were evident to her in their movements. It was something she'd picked up whilst at the academy. The ability to read others without using her empathic side. It had served her well and now it was time to use her talents that she'd been born with. Turning to Jessica, she said, "You know, i'm not a bad seamstress. I might be able to knock up something for us." (Reply Signos) Tayla smiled and then heard a discussion begin on their new names. A smile crept over her face as Parker announced his name, Ikan. He caught her eye and she knew that he knew there would be merciless ribbing about that name at some point. Looking to the group, she said, "I've been thinking this over and i think that i'd like to be called Naylan." (Reply anyone) Tayla nodded and then, turning back to Jessica said, "So, my sister. Is there anywhere you think we should visit first? Perhaps a public house? see if we can get the whole range of movements and gestures in one place." (Reply Signos) Tayla smiled widely and said, "There is that as well." And laughed heartily. Glancing towards Parker, she winked a little to let him know that this was a role and that nothing was going to happen. She cared about him too much. Smiling she stood and said, "Mother, Father, if it is alright with you, Lunette and i would like to begin our study." (Reply Salid, Signos, Davies, Any) (Posted by Jackie Smith) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Traveller's Hall - CMO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 10 - 1800) Josh had been sitting on the bed working with the tricorder embedded in the jewel around her neck hoping to try to decipher the Asrai language. Between the information that she and the Captain had managed to glean at the market they had made a working start on it but it was only a start. That however was the least of their problems. The hardest part of trying to blend in here would be learning the Asrai gestures and Josh knew that if they didn't learn them soon they would all begin to stick out like sore thumbs and no amount of bluffing their way out by saying they were from a distant part of the planet was going to get them out of that pickle. To be honest Josh was hoping that Tayla could help them with that. A discreet knock on the connecting door startled Josh for a moment. She had not realised that she had been working as long as she had. Looking up she grinned sheepishly and called out permission to whoever had knocked to enter. In ones or twos everyone on the away team made their way into the room. Most of the men either leant against the wall or sat on the floor but Josh scrunched up on the bed to allow Tayla and Jessica to sit beside her. Once everyone was present Josh asked Sanok to make sure that both doors were locked and getting a nod from him smiled and started talking. "Ok. The Captain and I have made a start on deciphering the language, however I think our biggest stumbling block will be getting the gestures down pat. "I know we are to be here for some time, so I took the liberty of procuring us girls some additional clothing." She smiled knowing that Josh and Tayla would like the fact that didn't have to wear the same outfit for the next twenty days. "Maybe after the meeting I can show you our what I was able to get us?" Again Jessica smiled, has Tayla joined them on the bed. "Buy the way the name's Lun'ette." (reply Josh, Tayla iyw) Jessica waited for the Captain to call the meeting to order. She was sure one of the first order of business was what each others alias's, and other methods in which to help them blend in. Having so recently been 2 of 5, he had clung to his identity as Eian. This mission was slightly difficult for him, for that reason. He didn't know many Asrai names, let alone their meanings. He ended up choosing a name he had heard in the marketplace. "Ralek, Sir," he answered. When the meeting was concluded, he turned to Matrix. "Would you like to leave now, or do you need some time to get the equipment ready? I'm set to go," he said. He had prepared the equipment during the hour before the meeting, just in case they would want to leave right afterwards to collect data. (reply Matrix) (posted by Morgan G) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Traveler's Hall - COUNS Parker Davis - Day 10 - 1836) The Captain turned to the counselor and gave him his assignment. "Mister Davis, I'd like for you and Commander Caskie to focus on any identifiable public works. Locate and identify them. A population like this will need bureaucracy. Bureaucracy means education. Schools, libraries, government buildings. See what you can do to increase our knowledge of the history and development and administration of this culture." "Aye, Sir," Parker answered. He started thinking about the ways he could accomplish this, comparing this civilization's social and political structure to others to predict where they might be headed. Eventually, the Captain asked for their chosen names. Parker hadn't really thought about this extensively, but he had chosen a 'backup' name if he couldn't think of anything else at the end of the day. It was the name of one of the first people they had spoken to in the market. "I've chosen Ikan," he stated, thinking somewhat humorously to himself that the name Ikan (I-Can) was probably going to be the butt of a few jokes from Tayla. (room for more if necessary) Once everyone was finished speaking, Commander Caskie turned to Parker and said, "Mr. Davis, I'm not sure when most of the public buildings will close here, however if you're up for a walk perhaps we could at least wander around for a while and map them out and return and figure out a plan of action. What do you think?" Parker nodded. "Yes, Sir, that sounds like an excellent idea." He wasn't sure which of them was in command, since she outranked him but he was Second in Command of the mission. He assumed that they would simply work together on the project as equals, but he would still be formal when they were in private and address her properly. (reply Caskie iyw) (posted by Morgan G) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime, Celdebrai City- Marketplace, Outcast Layeela, Day 10 -1900) It was amazing how easily people would accept you as a member of another caste once you altered your appearance and removed any outward markings from your clothing or in the style and manner of your walk. Layeela had gained confidence which had altered the way that she stood. Her back straighter, her chin held just a little higher and then the fact that she was wearing nicer clothes of the merchant class, helped people think that she was one of those very lucky few. She carried upon her left arm, a woven basket that she had found in the headquarters, and which proved to be more than large enough for her shopping needs. She had managed to find one of the students at the Tilsholl, Fazon, who was studying an interesting process called electrical conductivity and magnetic motor drives. Fazon had been building plans for some months on how to build such a device, but he had not yet collected all the components that were needed. The subject had immediately drawn Layeela's attention as her imagination had immediately grasped upon the concept of building a moving, working model of the solar system in which their world, Asrai Prime existed. The books had given her enough details about the way gravity worked, that she had the ability to calculate the orbits of the two parent stars around each other, as well as the orbit of her own world around the binary pair. So this afternoon, the two of them had hatched a plan to gather up the last of the needed materials so that they could complete the magnetic drive engine, and use it to power a series of pulleys and gears to recreate the orbital model of their solar system. As a result of this endeavor they had gone to the market place to look for guide-stone and other useful materials such as copper wire, platinum and gold, all of which were apparently very good conductors of the mysterious force called electricity. To make their work faster, they had split up, that way they could cover more ground quicker; Fazon took the west side of the market and she the east. She stopped at a small jewelers stand prominently displaying beautiful jewelry. Looking for the telltale fine wire that would be worthy of their experiment. Of course, there was more to it than simply seeing a beautiful wire, there was also the purity of the wire to consider. And according to Fazon, the only way to know the purity was to measure it's electrical resistance. He had devised a small device which used the natural harmonic frequencies of a thermal crystal to generate electricity when connected to a conductive material, by way of some clips. A smaller, crystal attached to the circuit at the other end of the device would glow brighter or fainter based on the amount of resistance, and thus purity contained in the conductive material. The more pure, the brighter the light would be. They were looking for a glow that was equal to a candle or greater. Layeela performed the gesture of interest and stepped forward to speak with the merchant who returned a Gesture of approval. "Good Merchant, I am seeking fine metal wire for a friend that must be pure of defects. This wire, you have here made from copper, is it pure?" she asked. "It is indeed," The merchant replied, "It is mined from the pure unadulterated vein found at the base of the mountain of Gazul. It's metals are known for their purity and ease of extraction from the rock face. Care you to inspect it?" Layeela nodded her head once and the man reached down and lifted the slender wire from the table top and handed it to her for her inspection. "May I use my light, would you be offended?" she asked him "No, by all means use what light you'd prefer. I have confidence in my products." Layeela fetched the small device from her pocket and cupping her hand to block the better portion of the view from the merchant, placed the probe-like ends against the run of the copper wire. The crystal at the end, lit up as bright as a single candle, perhaps a bit more. She made a great show of inspecting the wire, keeping the means of the light source clear of his view. "It is well wrought." She finally stated, " As she mocked the actions of extinguishing a lit flame, "I would have it if the price is right. have you 12-mecks in total length?" "12-mecks?" The merchant asked in surprise. "I do indeed, but 12-mecks is most expensive, 3 kips for a total of that length." Layeela frowned and gave the gesture of disappointment, "That is much unfortunate, as I have but 2 and 7 to spend, for my friend had not more to spare upon his art." With that she started to turn to leave. "Wait!" The merchant shouted after her, sensing a chance to close a deal and still make a bit of a profit. "I am a generous man, and though it harm my business, It will make your friend happy and yourself no longer upset. So if you will have it, I shall consign to you the 12-mecks of copper wire for the price of 2 and 7." "I would do so, but I fear my friend may have no more money with which to support himself, I cannot stand the thought of him being without before his stipend should come from his patron. It would do him little good to have 12-mecks of wire and nothing to eat." She replied. The merchant hesitated, "I see. And when would your friend's stipend be arriving." "Upon the fourth cycle of the rising of our divine twins." she replied. The merchant shook his head, "That is a long time indeed. he would surely starve should he spend all his money here." he agreed. "Yes, but without the wire, his work cannot be completed and he would lose his patron and thus his livelihood. So I understand not what I should do." Layeela added, as she made the gesture of complete and total depression, even though she felt no such emotion. "I shall aid you." The merchant replied, responding with the gesture of compassion and understanding. "I shall sell you the wire you desire, 12-mecks in length, and I shall take only the slightest of profits, as I must feed myself also. For this I shall sell you the wire for a price of 1 and 3, but can offer no more of a discount than this." Layeela smiled and immediately made the gesture of complete gratitude. "I shall call thee a noble and kind man, whose generosity has saved the life of my friend the artist. He shall speak your name to his patron when pronouncing his greatest work, and your fortunes shall grow fat." The man smiled, "come then, let us transact." They went to the table and completed the transaction. The merchant hanging the wire loops from a small rod, designed for such things. "There. You may now take my good tidings to your friend the artist and convey upon him the good will, generosity and tidings of Teros." Hands full, Layeela did not attempt to make a gesture, but instead simply smiled as she replied. "I shall Teros, and I bid that the Aowa keep watch over you and to protect your house from all forms of malady, natural and artificial." Still smiling, she turned away and moved across the marketplace hoping to find Fazon. After Captain Capps explained what had happened as well as his new orders Tom felt many things running through him. The first and most powerful one was deep disappointment. He had a strong hunch that his step dad Pez had a hand in it. The second was relief. He was back doing something he was good at. The next was how were his shipmates going to react when he appeared out of thin air. Dahlia, ever loyal, was thinking more of him and his emotions than herself. She deserved so much better than himself. Telling her about Sarah Banks had been difficult but he was relieved and glad he had done so. There was nothing else he had in his past. He looked over at his sleeping wife. She was large enough that he could see their twins kick their mother. Tom heard the pilot contact the Rose. Shaking Dahlia gently Tom told her "We are home dear and the wake up". She set up and smiled at Tom. " Yes indeed Thomas we are now home". The twins settled down as if they also knew home was near at home. ( Reply: none) ( Posted by: Bill W) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Bridge – FO – Commander T’Larah Sullivan – 2215) T’Larah was on her third consecutive watch. Whenever Captain Salid put her in-charge she always had a hard time leaving someone else in command for the entire shift. She would stay on for 24 hours despite protests from the shift leaders, especially Mister Xim. She would inform them, just like she did every other time that Vulcan stamina would allow her to stay on-duty with optimal efficiency more than the majority of races on board the Rosenante. Things, at least in her mind seemed to run smoother when you didn’t have to do shift changes. It also made it so her rest was not interrupted when things like this happened. “Sir incoming warp signature.” Came the OPS officer who was handling the long range scans. T’Larah stood and turned to face the tactical station. “Are there any ships scheduled to rendezvous that I’m not aware of?” she asked. The crewman at tactical shook his head in the negative and frowned. “No sir, nothing scheduled to arrive at all.” ~Curiouser and Curiouser.~ “OPS identify by transponder codes and warp signature.” She ordered. Some tapping on the OPS console and an answer was presented. “Ship shows as the USS Katana, a deep space warp shuttle, warp signature and transponder verified. It’s the Katana.” ~Usually Saber class vessels are named after bladed implements. I wonder why this one took that moniker, no matter.~ “Scan them, any damage or un-usual signs or readings?” she asked. “None, her systems are functioning all within normal limits.” OPS called out. “Her weapons are not charged and besides the navigational deflectors, her shields are down as well.” The tactical station chimed in. “Hail them.” She said. “No need, she is hailing us.” Reported OPS. “On speakers.” “USS Katana, this is Commander Sullivan of the USS Rosenante, how can we be of assistance?” “We were given orders to meet you here, sir.” Came the response. “Orders from whom?” she inquired. ~Damn that voice sounds familiar. No matter.~ “Straight from the top, Star Fleet Command, sir.” The pilot responded. “And what is the purpose of your visit? Are you carrying cargo? Personnel?” she inquired further. ~This crewman should be giving me all this as soon as I identified myself, I shouldn’t be asking for it piece-meal.~ “Personnel, I have passengers.” He said. “What are the names of your passengers? Or is that classified?” she prodded the young pilot further. “One Lieutenant Tom Jackson and family, on transfer from the….” The pilot was interrupted as the transmission went from just audio from the speakers to the main viewer. The main viewer sprang to life as the image changed from an image of a smallish vessel to a bust of two men that T’Larah knew well. Lieutenant Tom Jackson and Lieutenant Doug Masters. “Gentlemen, you where honestly the last two people I’d expect to see on that shuttle. I will see you all in cargo bay one on your arrival.” (Reply Tom, Lt Masters) Todd Holladay -------------------------- (USS Katana Lt. As the pilot conversed with the Rose, Tom Jackson and Doug Masters smiled as they both recognized the voice of the First Officer, Cmdr. Sullivan. Jackson reached over and initiated visual contact. They soon saw the familiar bridge of their new assignment. In the center seat was T'Larah Sullivan. "Gentlemen, you are the last twos I expected to see Lon the shuttle" she said in greeting. Tom smiled land replied "It's good to be home again. Dahlia sends her regards as well". (Reply: T'Larah) The First Officer then went on to instruct them " I'll meet you in cargo bay one". Tom walked over to his old shipnate and formally reported aboard Handing T'Larah his orders said" Commander Lieutenant Jackson reporting aboard for duty" adding a snappy salute. Not this guy.~ “Negative control, I’m taking her in manually.” He interrupted the cargo bay controller. Doug knew that if he were carrying just cargo, the tower may have attempted to take control with the tractor beam by force, however with personnel on board, they wouldn’t dare take the chance of harming an innocent. In that instant the shuttle very slowly and carefully breached the azure hued force field. The buzzing of the field being penetrated echoed through the bay, despite there being no one to hear it. The USS Katana slowly and gracefully swept across the deck and landed on the mark with only a slight jostle. The shuttle bay doors began rolling down to close like a massive garage door and cargo bay crew was allowed back on the deck for post flight checks. “We here at Masters Interstellar Shuttle Service are pleased to announce we have arrived at our destination. We thank you for choosing us for your travel needs, and hope that you consider Masters for your future travel needs.” Doug joked out loud with a grin as the shuttle touched down. “Please keep safety in mind when you open the overhead cargo bins, as contents shifted mass and may have shifted positions during flight.” Doug was finishing up his post flight engines and systems cool down before he opened the hatch. He assumed Tom was busy getting things ready for his wife. ~Wow pregnant and with twins to boot. Lucky guy.~ Once the post flight were complete, he noticed the crew had hooked him up to external power. “Shifting from internal to external power secure all electronics, three, two, one.” The lights only shut off for three tenths of a second and then once on assumed a softer hue. He exited the cockpit and saw that they had luggage. “Need any help with that Tom?” Doug asked, but picked up bags to help anyway. He keyed the hatch opening mechanism and a gangway extended down to the deck from the aft of the vessel as the hatch lifted up. (Reply Tom if you desire, but none needed) Tom walked down the gangway making a beeline straight to the waiting Commander Sullivan. She observed Tom, Dahlia and Doug stepping out of the aft of the shuttle and walking directly toward her. “Commander, Lieutenant Jackson reporting aboard for duty" adding a snappy salute and a smile. “Welcome aboard Lieutenant, however, as you are quite aware the gesture of the hand salute has been out of custom especially in Star Fleet since its inception.” Sullivan said. (Reply Lt. Jackson) “Quite alright. I take it your flight was comfortable and peacefully un-eventful.” She said glancing at Doug. Doug interjected. “Absolutely Commander. We had time to talk about the different ships we’ve been assigned to over the years. I mentioned that you and I went to the academy together.” “I take it the conversation was kept professional, because your knowledge that he was to be assigned here to the Rosenante.” T’Larah evenly. ~Oh, something like the time you punched me?~ Doug thought to himself and grinned. “I would never think to endanger your crew’s thoughts on you, the mighty First Officer, no sir.” Doug answered grin still on his face. “Tom, your former quarters is still vacant, you are of course welcome to it.
