"Echelon?" Marah asked. Fuller went on to explain that starfleet uses four echelons when dealing with medical care, the first being point of wounding. "So the higher the echelon the more severe the injury is and more complex treatment is required." She said. “That’s right, the higher the number the more definitive the medical care. That is part of the job that some of our more experienced medics help accomplish, the categorizing or triage of patients to decide where they need to go based on their injuries.” Nate replied. Marah was unfamiliar with the term triage. "What is triage?" She asked. Fuller was surprised that she was not familiar with the term and described it as the second echelon where the degree of injury can be assessed and dealt with. "I understand the concept." Marah replied. "I've done something similar but it was referred to by a different name. So the first echelon is attending to a patient, the second being triage and I assume the third would be treatment here in sickbay." “That’s right, the third is sick bay. Most patients can stop and be treated at this stage and not have to go higher. Starfleet ensures that our sick bays are fairly state of the art at the time of launching. Though many years exploring space and with the leaps and bounds medical science can advance in Starfleet, we don’t always have the very state of the art.” He answered. Marah assumed that sickbay would be the up to date but considering that ships spend a lot of time in space it wasn't hard to see how advances could be made that they wouldn't be able to take immediate advantage of. "So if someone were injured to the point that they couldn't be helped in sickbay they would have to be moved to a starbase of some planetary medical facility who are capable of dealing with the injury." Marah said. “Starbase is the fourth, that is right. They usually have the very pinacle of available Starfleet medicine. Though rarely is it even used, at least by starships, because every hang nail or sniffle we can’t go running back to Starbase to get patched up. Occationally we do go back because a medical problem might be to overwhelming or too exotic to be treated on a starship. They have all the space they need, and on a starship you learn to make do with what you got.” Marah looked around, she thought that sickbay was bigger then any medical facility she had ever seen but it could fill up quickly in an emergency. "Guess I still have a fair bit to learn." Marah stated with a smile. “That’s probably enough for now. We were just about to do some tricorder training if you want to join us.” He offered. "I'd be happy to." Marah replied. “Well everyone pairs up, and practice scanning each other with tricorders, scanning bio-signs and recording them in the patient’s chart.” Nate explained. Marah regarded the group for a moment, it seemed as if everyone there had a partner so no one was left out. She looked at her tricorder and then back at the group. Fuller seemed to sense her tension. “I’m sure they’ll treat you well. I’ll be over here if you need me.” Marah nodded. "Thank you Chief Fuller." she said. "You've been very helpful." Then a pair noticed her standing awkwardly alone and waved her over to join them. Marah flashed the pair a smiled and walked over to them, they introduced themselves and then took turns scanning each other and entering their findings in patient charts. Then they reviewed their findings and compared then as a group pointing out the similarities and then the differences from age group and species. Marah found she enjoyed the exercise and before she knew it her shift was almost over, she wasn't certain what she would do after her shift with Ben gone. Maybe she'd take a walk on the holodeck or go for a swim. (no reply required) (posted by Milo Young) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime- Celdebrai City- Alleyway- CEO- Lt. Commander Steven Matrix - Day 10- 1440) Matrix fumbled with his pack while trying not to look out of place or conspicuous. He adjusted the hand phaser tucked in a pocket just inside his shirt, above his left pectoral muscle. He found such places were not obvious hiding spots for weapons and often overlooked. If they were caught it would likely be overlooked especially a weapon so small. "Okay, then Davis, Fraiser, Matrix and Viskhard, go scout the seminaries and the market as needed, but be cautious, most species with religion tend to be very critical of missteps where their spiritual beliefs are concerned." "Understood Captain." replied Matrix and he turned in the direction of the market center and made a leisurely stroll of the journey. As he did he tried to conform to the environment, observing the ingenious personnel and their mannerisms. ~Blend in. Be natural~ thought Matrix. "We need to be aware of any signs of divinity memorabilia on or among the people. Keep an eye out for anything appearing to be sacred including people. We may well stumble upon a revered person." said Matrix to the others in his group. (Reply Fraiser, David, Viskhard) "I wouldn't look anyone directly until we get a feel for how these people interact. We're likely to be obvious outsiders to them so we'll need to be cautious without appearing to be unfriendly." continued Matrix. (Reply Fraiser, David, Viskhard) "We're merchants so we need to interact with others of our craft. Surely it won't be difficult to at least look the part. How I'm uncertain as yet, but we'll figure it out." said Matrix. (Reply Fraiser, David, Viskhard) (Posted by Steve) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime, Celdebrai City, Market Place - ACMO Lt. jg Tayla Fraiser - Day 10, 1444) The sights and sounds of the market filled her with wonder. This was a bustling community with many sights to behold and she stood for a moment taking them all in. She heard footsteps at her side and, smiling turned to see Parker. She guestured and said, "Such a sight compared to our small village, isn't it? My husband, perhaps we could purchase something to take back with us as a memory of our trip here?" (Reply Davis) Her smile widened and she replied, "That stall, there." She pointed. Walking towards the stall she had selected, she nodded to the store holder and began to look at the wares. Beautiful jewlery of all shapes and colours. Prescious metals and jewels were everywhere and in every configuration. She looked at a few pieces until she spotted the one she wanted. A small, blue stone set in a silver material on a chain. She held it up to the light and it twinkled brightly. (Reply Davis) She held the necklace to her neck and said, "What do you think?" (Reply Davis) She smiled and said, "Your genoristy knows no bounds, husband." The stall holder wandered over and said, "A good choice, madam." Turning to Davis, he said, "Your wife has made an excellent choice." (Reply Davis) As they haggled over the price for a moment, Tayla fixed the necklace around her neck. She, since knowing they were coming to the market, had wanted to find something, a memento of this trip and she was pleased with her choice. As Parker paid the store holder, she glanced around the rest of the market and spotted a couple outside a small cafe that seemed familiar. As he returned to her side, she reached for his hand and, holding it tightly, she leaned into him and whispered, "I've spotted the Captain and Caskie. Perhaps we should join them? We need to find lodgings and i for one am quite tired." (Reply Davis) Nodding, she replied, "I'm fine. It's just... well, holding my barriers in place for this long is tough. I don't wat to open myself here and risk exposure." (Reply Davis) She nodded, wearily and turned ti Viskhard and said, "Uncle, we have spotted Mother and Father. Perhaps we should join them?" (Reply Viskhard) Smiling and holding onto Parker's hand, they walked towards the cafe and the Captain. Tired, but happy, she greeted them warmly and said, "Father, we are glad to see you again. Have you found us lodgings? I feel the need to take a rest." Commander Steven Matrix - Day 10- 1447) The team started to relax as they approached the market center and many of the indigenous people there made little or no recognition of them as they made their way through the outlying areas and into the market. Matrix noted as much of the ambient conversations as he could, trying to pickup the temperament of the inhabitants, any obvious hierarchies, deities or religious figures wondering about and more importantly names. It was something that Matrix hadn't thought much about, but it became obvious to him how would they address themselves to others. He certainly didn't think about that detail until just that moment. Matrix walked a closer to Viskhard and the others, "We've established who each of us are, but we haven't given ourselves any names in which to converse with these people should we be asked." said Matrix. (Reply Viskhard) Matrix smiled at a passerby as he pretended to discuss business with Viskhard, "I've picked up a few names, but I'm unsure if these people address themselves by one name only, last name or simply a first name." replied Matrix. (Reply Viskhard, any in the team) Matrix stopped and faced the others, "We need to figure that out quickly." he said as he glanced at a small group of men looking in their direction. "Over my left shoulder there are a group of men who have been keeping an eye on us since we turned the corner into the market." said Matrix. (Reply Viskhard, Davis, Fraiser) "The best thing would be to act like we're minding out own business and keep walking through the square, don't give them more than a friendly gesture of eye contact if that. If we're approached we'll have to improvise in the moment." said Matrix. (Reply Viskhard, Davis, Fraiser) (Posted by Steve) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime- Celdebrai City- Alleyway- CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma- 1457) Mike shrugged, "I don't know some sort of artificial light perhaps." It was a possibility but Ben wasn't sure if these people were able to produce light artificially at their current technological level. He was about to say as much when he heard footsteps approaching them, softly at first and then growing in volume as the person neared. "Company" he whispered to Ben. "Time to put on our game faces." Ben whispered back. He turned to see who was walking up to them, it was an Asrai male and judging from his attire he was a religious figure of some sort. He was young so he probably hadn't held his position for long. He stopped a few feet from them and made a gesture with his hand which he and Mike copied, the young preist smiled if only subtly. "Welcome to the shrine of the sacred light. You have some special request?" he asked. Ben saw Mike glance at him, it was his play. "We can to pay our respects." Ben stated. "We've been on the road for some time and haven't had opportunity to offer thanks." The preist regarded him for a moment before nodding. "Then welcome to Celdebrai City, I trust you'll find your visit peaceful." "I hope so." Ben replied. "It's our first visit and we are not familiar with the city or it's inhabitants." "You'll find the townsfolk very helpful should you become lost." The priest replied. "If there's nothing you require I'll take my leave of you." Ben knew this was an opportunity to get some information and he couldn't let it pass. "Before you go," Ben said. "I've always been interested with the sacred lights. Even as a child I've always wondered how they worked. You wouldn't be able to explain it's operation for me would you?" Ben gave Mike a quick glance, either the priest would answer his question or they they would be labeled as blasphemers and possibly be detained. He hoped if it were the latter these people weren't like humans from a similar time or they may be tied to stakes and burnt alive. He had been in the lab working four days straight, everyone had assumed that he was just getting in early and leaving late every day. =^= Mister Maddox, I know you are in there. Report. =^= She ordered, demeanor still calm, but this time she raised her voice. “Huh, what?” Maddox said as his eyes blinked open. =^= Mister Maddox, your report on your progress. =^= Andrew wiped the drool off the corner of his mouth. ~Oh, frack the XO.~ His mind screamed at him. He was now completely awake. The adrenaline kick made sure of that. “Yes, sir.” He said and rummaged through a stack of PADDs “Uhm, the biological surveys are back for the most part.” =^= Most is a big margin. Give me a number. At least an approximation. =^= “Say the lower two thirds in complexity are complete the upper third we are waiting on the genetic analysis.” He answered. =^= Very good. Send the higher organisms to Doctor Orand for analysis once the genetic sequencing is complete. At the very least a xeno-biological assessment might help. Have you made any leeway with the geothermal vents, or the astrological study? =^= “I got a lot of data on the composition of the Alpha team Volcanic plume. Half the nanites I sent in got fried.” He said. “We still got a good look at the composition of the walls which go down farther then I sent them to probe. The majority of the walls of the chute are composed of silicon, iron, compressed carbon, and some trace metallic ores and minerals.” =^= What do you mean the nanites were fried? I thought you said that they were designed to take that kind of heat.=^= she asked in a near monotone. “They were, yes sir. I program mine to be able to withstand the heat of a plasma torch for several seconds. What I mean by fried is that they were exposed to a high EM bombardment.” He reported. =^= High EM, from what?=^= “I don’t know. From the readings it would be equivalent to a bolt of lightning for about 30 seconds.” He said. =^= A bolt of lightning? What was it’s point of origin? There wasn’t enough weather to create any kind of a lightning storm, let alone a constant enough one to do that.=^= “That’s true, however tricorder scans from myself and Ensign Spenser revealed such an energy signature inside the plume. A sample was taken from the escaping vent gasses of the plume and that revealed high concentrations of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen.” =^= What are you saying Mister Maddox?=^= “What I’m saying sir, is in spite of all we have I need more data to draw any kind of conclusion.” =^=Well you will get your chance. We’ve set a course back to the Rogue planet, I’ll be sending another team down and you will be on it. =^= Her voice came through the audio output. =^= As soon as you send the reports to Dr Orand I want you to get some shut eye. Once the reports are sent off, contact the bridge and let them know that is complete. Then report to the brig for six hours of sleep. Then get a change of clothes and clean yourself up and report to me, then we will send the away team. Is that understood?=^= “Perfectly, sir.” =^= Good I’ll be waiting for that report, Sullivan out.=^= With the channel closed, Andrew got to work on the report. (Reply none) (Posted by Todd) ------------------------- (Asrai Prime - Celdebrai City - Market Place - CMO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 10 - 1508) Josh simply sat listening as the Captain spoke to the servitor regarding lodgings and when he excused himself to fetch their food and drink and the Captain turned to her she listened intently. "That went well, considering. I think I missed some body cues in that conversation. At least we have a lead on some lodging and have learned something about the traveler's and merchant's caste." "More than that I think." Josh began. "You notice how he placed his body. He was subservient to you and not just because he was a waiter and you were a customer. The trader with the cloth didn't act like that. He knew that we were merchants so therefore we were his equals and he acted as such. I think the caste system here has a lot more intrinsic value than we first thought and I think we are going to have to be very careful until we work it out." Josh broke off her conversation just as the servitor returned and placed the two mugs in front of them and she waited allowing the Captain to taste it first. "It's good. Try it." Josh took a sip and smiling began playing with her pendant again. "A little too sweet for my taste to be honest, but it certainly has a kick to it." Just as she placed her mug back down on the table the servitor returned with their Habi and Ahmed gave Jennifer a smile, "You first, I went first last time." Smiling she picked up the topmost piece and dipping it in the paste popped it into her mouth. "Now that is nice. Reminds me of pakora or perhaps a bahji. It's very similar. Taking another piece she was about to eat it when she looked up and stopped. "Ah husband. I see our son and his wife and your uncle are about to join us. Perhaps you should order more Chala. Although it seems that your son has been more generous than you since his wife is most certainly wearing a new jewel. Perhaps they should buy their own Chala and perhaps you should remind him of how much the repairs to the wagons might cost us."
