She watched has the other officers made there way into the room. Most greeted each other then engaged themselves in idle chatter till the Captain entered and called the meeting to order. Jessica noticed the Captain looking around the room taking note of everyone there, before he started laying out the details of the Rosenante's new mission. He then called for the shakedown of each department. Jessica knew the status of security, she also knew that she needed not to say anything. Soma and Sanok were both able to speak for themselves. But, She did listen every detail she got on what was going about on the Rosenante would be another piece that would play into it's defense. For better or worse this was her home now. The Captain Continued to speak, "Mister Sanok, I would like for you to finish getting the security rotas handled and then I would like for you to start coordinating a weapons certification course for all personnel currently assigned to the Rosenante. I want at least level two training completed by all ship's personnel. I also would like for you to see to it that all ship's personnel are up to date on their EVA training. Mister Signos will be available to assist you if Lieutenant Soma can spare her." Jessica only nodded to show that she understood and accepted the order. Other than that she showed no outward appearance of emotion, she was around her colleges and it was time to focus on the task that was given to her. The Captain's request for her to help Sanok train new recruits made sense to her. Jessica was blessed and cursed with the training offered from the Federation and Section 31. If anyone could teach them how to use a phaser and fight in the amount of time asked Sanok and Jessica would do just that. When the meeting was over Jessica promptly left the room there was work to be done after all. (posted by Matthew Locke) ------------------------- USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 1 - 1150) "Sir, if I might be so bold, why am I here? You probably better than most know what I am and what I am capable of. I can see the tension inside you as you sit before me. You've placed me in a position to lead, train, and be accountable for the lives of others on this ship. Yet you have no trust in me because of what lives within me. Sooner or later people are gonna figure out what I am, and when that happens do you think they are gonna follow someone with Lily's reputation." Ahmed smiled. "It's not Lily's reputation that I'm counting on Ensign. It's yours." He took in a deep breath, closed his eyes for a brief moment and let it out slowly. The act, allowed him to release the tension in his shoulders and to force himself to be much more calm than he had a few moments before. He was clear headed and ready to talk when he opened his eyes again. "And you're mistaken. I trust Jessica Signos completely, It's Lily that I don't trust. Lily is the one who performed all those terrible crimes, not you Jessica. And while you would argue that you are the same person, I know better, because the officer sitting before me wouldn't throw away life so casually, nor would she ever even allow herself to be used in such a manner if she could avoid it." He paused, "But Lily, she's another matter entirely. She was created, trained and designed for one thing only, to murder, maim and create chaos. She is excellent at what she does, of that there is no doubt, but she's still a monster." "And I find myself remembering the duty jacket that you first revealed to me, and after everything that we went through on the station I know that you and She, despite living in the same body are not the same person. She is some sort of cruel psychological experiment, pushed upon you against your will, by people like Hayden. But Jessica Signos is a caring, competent Starfleet officer, who understands the importance of duty, and who has compassion and morals." "You're here, because if you were anywhere else, you'd be dead right now. Or worse. And the truth is, you're one of my officers, my responsibility now. It's my duty to protect you, to see you grow as an officer and to make certain that you have all the moral and ethical grounding that you will need to become a productive and effective Starfleet Officer." "I need you here, to help you, and to see to it that you become the woman you were supposed to become without the meddling of Section 31 or the interference of Starfleet Intelligence. You're one of mine, and I always look out for my own." "Jessica, I have faith that you are a good person and that you will prevail if given the support and encouragement that you need. I foresee a time in the future when you won't need Lily anymore. When you will realize that you alone are the one in control of your life. When that happens, you'll understand everything- all the risks that I have taken, the faith that I have in you and the supreme confidence that I have in the future. but until then, you may not understand it." Ahmed smiled at her. "It will take time. It's going to be tough and it's going to be emotionally painful, but you're a tough one, Jessica. You'll get through it, stronger and better than you were before. You'll be able to adapt and you'll grow stronger for it." "Besides, when someone saves someone's life, they become responsible for that person. And I think that currently, that qualifies." (reply Signos) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Captain Ready Room, ATAC/SC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos, Day 1 - 1153) Jessica listen to what the captain said apparently he had given this some thought over a great deal of time. Jessica took a small measure of solace from that. When she replied she answered every point has it was given to her. "You say you trust me but not Lily, that we aren't the same people event though we share the same body. Let me ask you this Captain, how did you feel when you lost you crew at the hands of the Borg? I bet you could feel the anger and heat rising. The truth is we all have a darkness that dwells with in us, our own personal monster. Mine is has just been reinforced, trained, given a voice then unleashed into the universe. You see, I remember what was done to place Lily with in me. I worry about us because we are two sides of the same coin." She took a deep breath to allow her more time to collect her thoughts. "I understand that you feel I am a caring, competent Starfleet officer, that I know the importance of my duties, and show compassion and morals. I would not be doing those morals justice if I did not come here." She shook her head before continuing softly. "To show that I care enough for the duties and lives you entrusted me with to ask that with everything I've been though are you sure that I am capable of doing what is right. Or will you have to be there to single me out to make sure I'm in control." She made reference to the battle in the Station would Jessica had stopped with the Captain intervening, she hoped so. "You know has well has I that in life or death situation you can't have someone watching over me every second to make sure I don't..." It took a moment the word caught in her throat. "That I don't fail, and give in to those murderous impulses. what would a competent Starfleet officer do?" Jessica knew he as right, this vessel was her home her only sanctuary if she left she would be hunted by Section 31 and by Federation intelligence, one would want to make her a slave the other would want her dead. "What part of moral and ethical grounding still requires me to live in secret?" It was a straight forward question but one with no easy answer. "Under Lily I've been an assassin for nearly half my life. Who I was before that has been left for Section 31 to decide for me." She looked into Salid's eyes. "How would you feel about yourself if you were made to forget how your parents died?" "I know right now my life is in shambles. I barley sleep, do to the nightmares, memories of things Lily has done, what Section 31 has done to me, or remembering things I was made to forget. Right now I live but am I truly alive. Captain I understand you have to keep a certain professional distance from your crew, but do you know what it feels like to be truly alone." I have spoken to Lt. Davis about this. He says it will get better in time has I learn to control Lily. But look at what I have missed just in the last few weeks. I missed the chance to honor our fallen that we have bleed with, to wish Commander Jackson well has he left for the Boudicca. It's already started here, me bring treated with kit gloves, like I'm some kind of bomb getting ready to explode. If you knew how painful it was gonna be to heal from the wounds that Section 31 caused not upon my person but on my mind would you still want to take the responsibility for my life. (reply Salid) (posted By Matthew Locke) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 1 - 1155) "I have spoken to Lt. Davis about this. Ahmed nodded, "Yes I would Jessica." he replied simply. "No one ever said that it was going to be easy. And no one promised that you'd be able to overcome this alone or even quickly. You are facing the most difficult and complicated task of your entire existence. The struggle that we all have to face sooner or later- the fight between doing what's right and doing what you want or feel needs to be done." "This crew, every one of them are important to me- you included. I don't want you to think that you're being watched because your dangerous. You're being guided because we understand that you need help and because it's not something that you will ever be able to accomplish on your own." "And no one can really understand what you're going through, I grant you that, but you have to also consider how much we're all risking here. You're not the only one in the fire on this ensign. If this goes horribly wrong, there are a lot of people that could die, or be imprisoned, or worse. Eian, Liam and I have made enemies of Section 31, because we have faith in you to control your darker side. Brain washing isn't a new invention Mister Signos, in fact it's older than we know. So I suggest that you rethink your belief that you are in this alone. I suggest that you apply yourself to the task at hand, which is really nothing more than an exercise in self control, and that you start by working towards a positive resolution of this problem." "You understand the difference between wrong and right, and I expect you to do the right thing from this point forward. I am placing more faith in you than I have ever placed in another living creature, because you are worthy of that faith." "Do I trust you?" Ahmed shrugged, "I trust Jessica, but I have to remain reserved about Lily. She's done some things that I should rightfully have her executed for. If you were in my position you'd understand how much of a moral dilemma that is for me. Don't make me regret my decision not to turn you over to Starfleet Intelligence." There was a pause. A lot of tension lay between them, but Ahmed understood that it needed to be there for the moment. "Is there anything else you'd like to say Ensign Signos before I dismiss you?" (reply Signos) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Captain Ready Room, ATAC/SC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos, Day 1 - 1157) Jessica felt the tension, it made Jessica think about the tension between an protective father and head strong daughter. From what she remembered of her father, there were moments where he was kind and nurturing. Then there was other times where he had to lay down the law. This fell somewhere into the middle. The remembrance made Jessica smile and brought tears to her eyes. She tried to hide them but Salid was right, she wasn't alone. Salid would of never done what he did, would of never shielded her if he didn't believe that there was something in her worthy of saving. It was the hard words that truly moved Jessica, people don't speak that way if they plan on just pacifying someone. The Captain had meant what he said, and he had put himself on the line like on one else would. No she was wrong Salid, Liam, Eian they all had put their lives on the line to see if a monster could be saved. The Rosenante was no longer her sanctuary but rather her home. "Is there anything else you'd like to say Ensign Signos before I dismiss you?" The Captain spoke firmly. "Yes, sir." She spoke softly, but no longer timid, has a new understanding crept into her voice. "I know Section 31 will have to be dealt with sooner or later. I understand we have required a good deal of their technology from the station. I think it's safe to say I have to most experience with that equipment. With the Captain's permission I would like the ability to train other officers in there use, maybe the Captain himself would like the opportunity to learn how the Section 31 equipment works so we can better know how to defeat it. I will understand if you decide against this I know it's not an easy request. But I would like to do whatever is in my power to protect my home." (reply Salid) Jessica knew that whether the Captain answered for or against her proposal mattered little he had told her exactly what she needed to hear. Jessica could respect that, and if could place such faith into her maybe Eian would do the same. But more importantly it was a start , it was the first few bricks laid required for her to start rebuilding her life. "Am I dismissed." Jessica spoke clearly. Knowing she had used enough of the Captain already little time. (reply Salid) She turned and made her way to the door. Stopping before the door opened, she turned to face the Captain once more. "Thank you Sir, for everything." With that Jessica vanished from the room, she had plenty to think about. It was a debt Jessica would probably never be able to repay. (reply Salid) (posted by Matthew Locke) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 1 - 1159) "Yes, sir." She spoke softly, but no longer timid, as a new understanding crept into her voice. "I know Section 31 will have to be dealt with sooner or later. I understand we have required a good deal of their technology from the station. I think it's safe to say I have to most experience with that equipment. I will understand if you decide against this I know it's not an easy request. But I would like to do whatever is in my power to protect my home." It was a reasonable request, but one that was also fraught with a lot of potential problems. Finally, after a few moments of consideration, Ahmed nodded. "Very well. But we need to limit the number of people involved in this specialized training. I want you to have O'Neill and disassemble one each of the ghost suits and the WAR devices and conduct a thorough technical and engineering analysis on them. They are to use the utmost care and precautions in their disassembly and are to assume that they are designed to self-destruct and take anyone working on them along for the ride." He pursed his lips as he considered the next part for a moment and then continued. "Then I want you to train Raschen, Soma, Sullivan and Sanok in their full use. Use practical holodeck drills. I don't want any damage to my ship. If O'Neill and matrix have time, they are welcome to join you, but the technical overview is to be their primary duty in this respect. I suspect that this work will take weeks if not months, so there should be time for them to participate in that training if they desire." "I want to see all training programs prior to their implementation and I want detailed technical reports throughout the process. I want regular updates and reports, even if there is nothing significant to report." "Am I dismissed?" Jessica spoke clearly. "You are dismissed Ensign." Ahmed replied. She turned and made her way to the door. Stopping before the door opened, she turned to face the Captain once more. "Thank you Sir, for everything." With that Jessica vanished from the room. Once the door had closed, Ahmed smiled and replied to empty air, "You're welcome Jessica." (reply none needed) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Tradewinds - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 1 - 1331) "Maybe I will join you for a walk some time, as long as your dog doesn't mind." Josh grinned over the table at Marah. "I can guarantee that Lulu won't. She's a big softy who just loves anyone who pays her any attention. The one pet of mine that you need to worry about is my cat. He's not called Bruiser for nothing. Although given his propensity for sinking his teeth and claws into anything and everyone that moves I probably should have called him Dracula. I swear that if we still had him on the Boudicca during our conflict with the Borg we would probably won it a lot quicker than we did." "The Rosenante is a beautiful ship, and so big. I haven't seen much of her since I came aboard, I know there are some areas I'm not permitted to enter but if I do get to help you I'm going to have to take some time to familiarize myself with the rest of the ship. How many medical bays are there?" Josh thought about it for a moment or two and then answered. There are four separate medical bays as such, but there is much more than that to Medical. We also have Medical Labs 1 and 2, a Quarantine Area, two Surgical bays, the CMO's Office, the Biohazard Isolation Lab and Bay which can be utilized independently from the ship and can be jettisoned either from inside or out if necessary. The Civilian Medical Facilities, the Morgue/Autopsy Suite and Stasis Bay not to mention the Counseling Dept which although a department in itself is loosely tied to Medical. These are all on Deck 10 and all either interconnected or close together. However we do also have one dedicated Cargo Bay for medical supplies as well." "I will contact you as soon as I have a decision from the Captain and Cmdr Sullivan, but in the meantime please feel free to drop into Sickbay anytime you want. If I'm busy I will make sure that someone is available to show you around, and remember that you are always welcome on Holodeck 2 when I am exercising Lulu unless I have the privacy light on. Now if you will excuse me, I am afraid that duty calls and I have to get back to work. It's been a pleasure spending time with you and perhaps you would consider making lunch a regular event. Like most doctors I tend to have lunch in my office. However that does not mean that I enjoy doing so." (Reply Marah, iyw) (Posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Tradewinds - Marah Neru- 1333) "There are four separate medical bays as such, but there is much more than that to Medical. Marah was amazed that there were so many areas of the ship dedicated to medical. Four bays, two surgical bays, a couple labs and a module that could be jettisoned from the ship. Everything was on deck ten so that was a very good place for her to start getting familiar with the ship. "I will contact you as soon as I have a decision from the Captain and Cmdr Sullivan, but in the meantime please feel free to drop into Sickbay anytime you want. "Maybe we can make lunch a more regular event, that is if there is nothing that requires either of our attentions. I'll keep the holodeck in mind if I happen to be near it when your walking Lulu. I'm sure we'll be good friends, I love animals." After Josh had left Marah finished her iced tea and stood up to leave, she noticed a couple off to her left and decided to go over and introduce herself and see if they wouldn't mind a little company for a few minutes. (no reply necessary) (posted by Milo Young) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - FO's Office – FO – Commander T’Larah Sullivan – 1903) The door chimed indicating someone was at her door. “Enter.” T’Larah responded. The door opened to reveal the CMO Commander Caskie, who stepped across the threshold. "Good evening Commander. I wonder if I might have a moment of your time since I have a somewhat unusual request to make of you." “I will always make a moment for you if I have it. You are fortuitous in that I have several. Please have a seat.” (Reply Caskie) “What brings you here today?” Sullivan asked. "Marah Neru came to see me today to offer her services in Sickbay. After checking with her regarding her medical knowledge it seems that she could indeed be a help. However, since she is a civilian I thought that I should run this passed you and the Captain before I agreed to take her on. I've uploaded all the information that I thought you would need onto this PADD so that you and the Captain can review it when you have the time and I have told her that both you and the Captain will have the final say regarding this. However, as stated on the PADD my inclination would be to say yes to her, if I get the ok from yourselves." She placed the PADD on the table and smiled. "If you could find some time to review it and bring it to Captain Salid's attention I would be grateful. I won't keep you any longer Commander, thank you for seeing me." “Before you go, some thoughts come to mind.” T’Larah said raising her hand indicating Josh should stay for a moment. (Reply Caskie) “Have you thought of her joining Star Fleet?” the First Officer asked. (Reply Caskie) “Well it doesn’t happen very often, but there is a little known clause in the Regulations called ‘Non-Standard Procurement of Star Fleet Personnel’. I believe the last time it was done by Admiral Janeway back when she was Captain of the Voyager. Essentially when subject matter experts come along in the voyages of the crew, if they take the same oaths of allegiance that all of us have taken, they begin their job and learn the other subjects that a young cadet would learn in the academy, and when they are complete, they earn their commission.” Sullivan explained. “Does that sound like something that you’d want to talk about going forward with? (Reply Caskie) “Keep in mind for this to go forward, we will both have to talk to the Captain, and your prospective cadet will have to speak to him as well.” She said, “ also we will have to figure out a good enough reason not to ship her back to San Francisco.” (Reply Caskie) (Posted by Todd) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - FO's Office – CMO – Cmdr Josh Caskie – Day 1 - 1905) “I will always make a moment for you if I have it. You are fortuitous in that I have several. Please have a seat.” Josh sank gracefully into the seat opposite the Commander and began to speak. After explaining her visit she rose to go since she knew that T'Larah's time was limited. However the Commander's next words set Josh back down in her seat again. “Before you go, some thoughts come to mind.” T’Larah said raising her hand indicating Josh should stay for a moment. “Have you thought of her joining Star Fleet?” Josh shook her head. No Commander it was not something that to be honest I had considered. She came to see me today to offer her services as a civilian, I think because not only does she have some training in medical practice but the medical department in Starfleet has been known in the past to accept outside help. Suggesting to her that she join Starfleet didn't even figure in my considerations to be honest." “Well it doesn’t happen very often, but there is a little known clause in the Regulations called ‘Non-Standard Procurement of Star Fleet Personnel’. "Given what you have just told me it is indeed something that I will discuss with her, however the final decision will indeed have to be up to Marah. However if you would at present carry on with considering her immediate request and take it to Captain Salid both she and I would be grateful." “Keep in mind for this to go forward, we will both have to talk to the Captain, and your prospective cadet will have to speak to him as well.” She said, “ also we will have to figure out a good enough reason not to ship her back to San Francisco.” Josh grinned widely. "Commander, I'm insulted. Do you seriously think that after all these years as a CMO I can't come up with a valid reason not to ship her back to Earth." "I'd like to talk about your shuttles for a moment." Matrix turned to greet Ben, "Sure...what's on your mind?" replied Matrix. "I think it will be a very good test of the tactical systems." Ben stated. "Are you planning on having some kind of power source on the shuttles? I ask because a stationary will be the best thing for targeting the phasers but a mobile target would be best for testing the torpedo guidance systems." "I hadn't figured that out as yet Ben, but my assumption is we would siphon off power directly from the shuttle. Do you a need additional power sources?" asked Matrix. "I'll have the phasers set to one one thousandth of their rated output so we don't destroy the shuttle with the first shot, the torpedo yields will also be set to minimum to give us the chance for fine tuning the targeting scanners. Once we have everything set up we can increase the power and monitor the prefire chamber for variations and possible over heating." "That sounds like a good plan Ben. See to any additional power needs you might have and have engineering assist you. See to it." Replied Matrix. (Reply Soma) "I need to get back to ordinance and see about a guidance change. I'll be back in about 15." said Matrix. (Reply Soma, anyone) (Posted by Steve) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Observation Lounge, CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma -1005) "That sounds like a good plan Ben. See to any additional power needs you might have and have engineering assist you. See to it." Replied Matrix. "I'll run a few simulations and see what I can come up with." Ben replied. "If I need any extra power I'll alert engineering." "I need to get back to ordinance and see about a guidance change. I'll be back in about 15." said Matrix. "I'll get to the simulations and get an idea of the power requirements involved." Ben replied. "Fifteen minutes should be adequate, then we can work out the other aspects of the test." Ben left the observation lounge behind Steve and crossed to the tactical station and began his simulations. Ten minutes later he was satisfied with the results and the power requirements he would need. If everything went well as the simulations suggested he wouldn't need anymore power for the test since using the phasers at such a low setting wouldn't tax the system. He transferred the results to a padd and tapped his combadge. "Soma to Matrix." He said. "I've finished the simulations and there are no additional power requirements. Once we have the phasers properly aligned I'd like to take the power level back to normal to see how the prefire chambers hold for a couple shots." (reply Matrix) (posted by Milo Young) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Holodeck 2, CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma - 1730) Ben had arranged to meet Eian and counselor Davis to bring them up to speed on the TIHS, he had the program loaded and running so he was currently standing on the Rose's bridge. Captain Salid requested he train the counselor and the bridge crew and whomever he deemed should have the training so he decided to do so in small groups so he could spend as much time as required with a couple individuals rather then having to train a larger group and hope that everyone understood what he was doing. Not everyone felt comfortable admitting they were having trouble in a large group of peers. The doors of the holodeck opened and his students entered, Ben turned to face them with his arms behind his back. "Lieutenant O'Neill, Counselor Davis." He greeted them. "Thank you for joining me. Counselor, the Captain requested you be trained on the TIHS. Lieutenant, I felt you should also be included in the training." (reply O'Neill, Davis) "It isn't difficult to operate, though the first time can be a little disorientating." Ben said. "One minute your standing on the bridge at the tactical station and the next you seem to be free floating in space. Hopefully neither of you will have to use the knowledge you gain here but like the saying goes, it's better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it." (reply O'Neill, Davis) Ben walked over to the tactical station. "This is the tactical station as seen on the bridge." Ben explained. "You may not have noticed but if you look behind the station at the floor you will notice a ring slightly off the center. When a tactical officer steps into this ring he or she will be able to activate the TIHS or tactical interactive holographic system. Essentially this makes the officer the ships weapons and targeting system, all tactical data is displayed giving you torpedo compliments, active phaser arrays, shield strength, targeted systems." Ben stepped behind the tactical station. "Normally only the Tac officer gets to see what your about to." Ben stated." Computer run program in mode two." The bridge faded from view and was replaced by open space with a Jem'Hadar battle cruiser approaching them. "Once activated the computer generates a holgraphic representation of the space outside the ship." Ben continued and pointed towards what used to be the floor. "There you can see the status bars for the shields, torpedos and phasers. Here's where things get interesting. The right hand controls the weapons, the index finger controls phasers, the middle photon torpedos and the third quantum torpedos. The left hand is used for targeting the enemy, simply touch the area of the enemy vessel you want to target." Ben reached out with his left hand and touched the port nacelle on the battle cruiser, then he bent his right index finger and a lance of phaser fire struck the spot he had targeted. Bending his middle finger released a photon torpedo that struck the nacelle followed by a quantum torpedo after he bent his third finger. "Normally using the tactical station an officer can only target and fire one weapon at a time." Ben explained. "Using the TIHS allows you to fire multiple weapons simultaneously." Ben bent his index and middle fingers together as a phaser beam and a photon torpedo impacted the targeted nacelle. He then bent all three fingers unleashing a phaser blast and photon as well as a quantum torpedo. Ben stopped there allowing Eian and Davis to absorb what they just heard and saw and give them a chance to ask any questions they might have. (reply O'Neill, Davis) (posted by Milo Young) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 - ACEO Lt Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 1732) "Lieutenant O'Neill, Counselor Davis." He greeted them. "Thank you for joining me. Counselor, the Captain requested you be trained on the TIHS. Lieutenant, I felt you should also be included in the training." "Thank you," Eian said. "I'm eager to learn how to use the THIS." "It isn't difficult to operate, though the first time can be a little disorientating." Ben said. "One minute you're standing on the bridge at the tactical station and the next you seem to be free floating in space. Hopefully neither of you will have to use the knowledge you gain here but like the saying goes, it's better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it." "Ain't that the truth," Counselor Davis said with a small smile, and Eian smiled back and nodded approvingly. He and Parker had spent a lot of time together lately in sessions, and Eian had come to respect the Counselor as someone who had seen a little action, experienced a little hardship, and knew how to walk into a situation prepared. He was not the kind of counselor who had his head in the clouds, in Eian's opinion. Ben walked over to the tactical station. "This is the tactical station as seen on the bridge." Ben explained. "You may not have noticed but if you look behind the station at the floor you will notice a ring slightly off the center. When a tactical officer steps into this ring he or she will be able to activate the TIHS or tactical interactive holographic system. Essentially this makes the officer the ship's weapons and targeting system, all tactical data is displayed giving you torpedo compliments, active phaser arrays, shield strength, targeted systems." ~That's *cool*,~ Eian thought excitedly. He loved tactical systems. They were, after all, his specialty. Ben stepped behind the tactical station. "Normally only the Tac officer gets to see what you're about to." Ben stated. "Computer run program in mode two." The bridge faded from view and was replaced by open space with a Jem'Hadar battle cruiser approaching them. As this was going on, Eian reflected how the human body was being used as a sort of machine, almost like the Borg...but the difference, he realized immediately, was that an individual was in control. Technology could empower someone or enslave someone, and it just depended on how it was used. "Is it possible to pilot the ship from the THIS? Perform evasive maneuvers?" Eian asked. (reply Soma) "What about the transporters, for beaming out potential survivors?" Parker chimed in. (reply Soma) (posted by Morgan G) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 - CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma - 1735) "Is it possible to pilot the ship from the THIS? Perform evasive maneuvers?" Eian asked. "No, it isn't possible to perform evasive maneuvers from the TIHS." Ben answered. "You can only control the tactical system as you would through the tactical console." "What about the transporters, for beaming out potential survivors?" Parker chimed in. Ben turned to the Counselor. "That is possible." He replied. "Ops would have to release transporter control to the tactical station if the need arose but yes one could control the transporters with the TIHS. You can also control the tractor beams just as you would with the tactical station on the bridge." Ben gave a slight wave of his left hand and the nacelle was no longer targeted. "Who wants to try first?" Ben asked. (reply O'Neill, Davis) NRPG: Assuming Eian wants to go first. RPG: "Computer transfer control to Lieutenant O'Neill." Ben said and stepped behind him to give him full view of the battle cruiser. "Left hand for targeting, right hand for weapon control." (reply O'Neill) Ben watched as Eian targeted the battle cruiser and fired of the phasers and the torpedos. When he was finished Ben said. "Computer transfer control to Counselor Davis." (reply Davis) They watched as Davis fired off a couple torpedos and a few phaser blasts. When he was finished Ben said. "Computer return control to Lieutenant Soma." He stood in front of his students once again. "You can target multiple systems at once." He stated. He touched both nacelles and the rear of the battle cruiser and bent his index finger, three phaser bursts hit each target one by one. Bending his middle finger released three photon torpedos and bending his third finger released three quantum torpedos. "It is pretty user friendly." Ben said. "But it also requires a degree of self control and self awareness. The operator must be aware of his movements while using the TIHS. If he twitches either of his control fingers the results could be disastrous, it could mean the difference between a diplomatic solution and all out conflict." "Commanders Caskie and Matrix, Lieutenants Soma, Sanok, Raschen, O’Neill and Tamblyn, Ensign Signos, Chief Fuller…" she paused briefly. Ahmed noted the hesitation in his first officer's voice and he glanced up at her. She met his eyes, as she continued, "… and Crewman Maddox. Sullivan out." "Maddox?" Ahmed asked somewhat amused by her discomfort “It is a science mission sir.” She admitted. "Indeed it is Commander." He agreed “He’ll be on my team, I’ll watch him the entire time.” she offered. Try to keep the Rose in one piece...the paint isn't even dry yet." said Matrix as he slung his backpack over his shoulder. Lieutenant Peter Cohen smiled back, "I'll do my best. You just get back here in one piece." Matrix smirked, "This is a simply science mission...what could happen?" Matrix turned and headed out of main engineering and made his way into the nearest turbolift. The doors closed, "Observation lounge" said Matrix. ~Lets hope this is all it is.~ thought Matrix. The doors opened on deck and Matrix walked a few meters and entered the Observation Lounge. There were already a number of people in attendance. Matrix found an empty chair, put his backpack on the floor and pulled out a PADD and began to review the mission specs and waited for the others to join him. He still couldn't believe he was going down to the planet. As soon as he was finished, he requested permission to leave the bridge and was allowed to do so. He boarded the turbolift and instructed it to take him to the Science Department. If he was going down to the planet's surface, he needed to collect instruments to take measurements and recording equipment and a means for data analysis...he grinned. This was exciting! (no reply necessary) (posted by Morgan G) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Observation Lounge –CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma – 1130) Ben exited the turbo lift and crossed the bridge nodding to the officers who turned his way, Commander Sullivan had called him to the observation lounge for an away team briefing. The time had come for them to investigate the rouge planet first hand. He didn't know much about rouges but most were inhospitable frozen wastelands, this one appeared to be thriving despite being thrown out of it's orbit. He was curious as to what they would find once they were on it's surface, he always liked a good mystery. He reached the door but before getting close enough to trigger it's sensor he paused for a moment and smiled, Sanok had teased him about being stuck on the bridge now that he was the chief tactical officer but it looks like he was going to get to stretch his legs on the rouge planet along with his friend. He steeped up to the door and entered once it had opened. "Commander." He said in greeting as he walked to the conference table and had a seat. It wouldn't take long for the others to arrive and then the briefing would begin. No doubt the entire science department would be involved in surveying and cataloging everything they found, they would have to take samples of any plant life they found as well as soil and water. He wondered if there was any animal life on the planet, if there was what was the height of their evolution? What was the dominant species? Were there any humanoids? Were there any large predators, if there were hopefully they were nothing like the dagger beast. (reply any) (posted by Milo Young) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Observation Lounge – Lieutenant sg Sanok, 1132) When he received the call from the FO to report to the observation lounge for a mission briefing, Sanok had been in the middle of teaching the engineering personnel on the proper use of the new weapons lockers, and procedures in the use of the weapons. Acknowledging the call, he had turned over the rest of the session to the shift leader and made his way to the lounge. Entering, he saw Commander Sullivan and Ben already seated. "Commander," said Sanok, acknowledging the FO. He sat next to Ben. "It seems we're going to be off on another adventure together." (reply Sullivan iyw, Soma) (posted by Bob B.) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Observation Lounge – SciO Ensign Pembrook Carter, 1133) Pem was not only smiling from ear to ear but he was whistling. After the horrors of dealing with the Borg and all the death and destruction of the last mission, the thought of visiting a unique planet and actually working in one of his specialties actually appealed a great deal to him. The doors to the lounge opened and he gave a quick one-handed jolly wave with his right hand as he plopped into one of the open chairs. He quickly finished off the last of 'Twisted nerve' before proceeding to drum his fingers on the table top for a few seconds before he realized that it might actually be annoying to those already assembled. "Sorry," he muttered with a broad smile, "I can't help it, I haven't been on a really cool away mission for a while now. It's like Christmas in July." He shrugged and did his best not to fidget and make needless noise. (reply Any) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Observation Lounge, ATAC/SC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos, Day 7 - 1134) Jessica entered the Observation Lounge a good deal happier than the last time she had been surrounded by her peers. The conversation with the Captain and then later the same day with Eian had helped her a great deal. That night was the first night of sound sleep Jessica had in near three weeks, and it had continued to this day. She entered the room feeling refreshed and with a sense of being. She looked around the room and waved a slight greeting to whoever was present before taking a seat at the long table. Jessica was like everyone else ready to get done with the drills and get done to the meat of the mission. She waited and watched has other people entered and took there seats the briefing would start soon. It didn't seem like the kind of mission that was gonna involve security, but it was always better to be prepared because it something did make a turn for the worse it would do so and quickly. It was the last thing Jessica wanted to see was anyone hurt when she could do something about it. Lily was there in the deepest parts of her mind. Jessica's alternate self had turned her attention to singing. Jessica has downloaded several PADD's worth of data and courses on the subject. Jessica wanted something in Lily's life other than killing something truly beautiful she hoped that though the art of song that Lily would find something worth while and something truly her own. Even now Jessica could hear the soft melody of the song sanvean ( I am your shadow. ) deep with her mind. Jessica opened herself to the music and enjoyed it has she waited for the meeting to start. A larger view of the planetoid was shown on the screen before them, encompassing an entire hemisphere on the screen. In the bottom margin the astrometric designation was displayed, some combination of Greek letters and Arabic numerals that only Astronomers had any clue what it meant. “Before you is the graphic representation of the sensor reading just taken by Mister Willowbrook. It is a Rogue planet that is so-far un-named. It is also nearly unique as it is only one of less than a dozen that have been discovered by the Federation to date. One of the more special things about this planet is that regardless of the fact that it has no solar mass to orbit around it still registers as class M, but only barely. Our job is to beam down and investigate,” she said. “You will be split up into three teams. Each will have a team leader, a science specialist and an engineer or technology specialist. The rest will be filled with mission specialists like those with a medical discipline. Each team leader will confer with their science and mission specialists to determine where their energies will be spent best. All general mission outlines and initial beam down coordinates will be run through me before team beam down. All personnel for beam down will carry a type II hand phaser, a discipline specific tricorder, the Star Fleet issue Type VIII cold weather outer garment, with goggles and gloves. Extra mission equipment crew-served drills etc will be carried in field packs. One pattern enhancer set per team. Matrix wasn't a first year cadet, but the FOs response bordered on insulting. Today, he was moving down into the newest series of caverns that he had discovered. His hope of finding some holy artifact that he could sell to the Order of relics drove him onward despite the danger of being so deep into the mountain alone. Of course, just being in the mountain in the first place was enough of a reason to be frightened. If any of the Banes or other orders realized that he was violating the sanctuary of the most sacred place in the world, there would be serious trouble. Already his explorations had cost him more than he'd have liked, but without any relics of value, he'd be destitute. The cost of food, equipment and time was staggering, and so far he'd not found anything worthwhile. A few potshards, ancient rusted beds of metal that had probably once been tools or weapons, but none of the Holy relics. A runaway of the order of Relics a decade earlier, Mayrud had changed his name long ago and used the knowledge he had collected from his studies to lead him to the ancient artifacts that he sometimes sold in order to have a comfortable living. Still, over the decade that he had been excavating, exploring and recovering these artifacts, he hadn't really found that one big score that would set him up in divine comfort for the rest of his life. It wouldn't take much, just the right piece or pieces, something so unlike all the rest so far recovered, and the Order would pay him a ton of Golls for the piece. It didn't matter if it worked, but if it was active, then he'd make a considerably larger sum. With such a score he'd be able to buy himself some property, a few head of livestock, and take a good wife. He could become a free trader, using his money wisely he'd grow fat and wealthy and sire a dozen or more children. Mayrud shook his head and sighed as he pushed the hopeful thought from his head and went about checking his equipment once again. He'd already managed to establish an advanced supply depot these many miles inside the holy mountain. He had enough stockpiled to last him weeks if he needed to stay down here that long. He reached up and flipped open the cover for his biolight headlamp, a part of heavily modified relic that he depended on for life-giving light whenever he was deep below ground. He adjusted the head strap, positioning the dull blue beam of light into the vertical shaft just ahead of him. With the practiced motion of an expert spelunker, he stepped over the side of the ledge and allowed his rappelling skills to take him down into the belly of the mountain.
