What can I do for you?” “I need a detail of about 15 to 20 fast and agile beings that know how to navigate their way throughout this ship like no one else’s business. I don’t care what department they are currently in, I just don’t want them to be ‘Essential Personnel’. You know what I mean?” Robert nodded. “I understand sir.” “I plan on using them as messengers between the defense positions and the bridge. I have my department on a electronic communications blackout as we make preparations in case we get boarded. Think you can find the folks I need?” ”I’ll see what I can do sir.” As Raschen moved away Robert turned back to his console. ~Okay lets see what I can find~ He began entering commands in his console. ~Okay so no department heads or there assistances. Lets take them out of the equation~ He looked at people who had intimate knowledge of the ship but also people who could look after them selves. He sorted out the list of people and he realised that he had more then he had expected but he added all the names so that Raschen had some lee way in who was chosen. When he had done that he uploaded the data to Raschen’s personal PADD. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Bridge, CO- Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 1733- 0600) With Rosita's witch hunt off his ship finally and the science teams from Starfleet command confirming their story with lots of available evidence, it was business as normal again aboard the Rosenante. Starfleet command had cleared the starship to depart from the Khitomer system, and to proceed to Starbase Geneva for limited refit and retraining of personnel. It was an order that Ahmed and his crew were all too eager to follow through with. In that regards, for once the Captain of the Rosenante found himself very happy to comply with the order to get underway. "Mister Dralar, Set course for Starbase Geneva and take us out of the system, once we're past the cordon, take us to cruising speed." "Aye captain." The Skorr helmsman replied and the mighty Rosenante turned away from the blue green sphere of Khitomer and headed for the stars. E’Mpak turned to see Fuller standing beside her wearing sterile surgical gloves. “Yes Nathan. What can I do for you?” "Well I just wanted your opinion on this one, darnedest thing." he said. She nodded. “Of course. What can I help you with?” "You wouldn't believe me unless you saw for yourself." he said calmly. E’Mpak nodded. “Please do.” She followed Fuller over to a Andorian woman who was sitting on the bio-bed with a very worried expression on her face. "Nurse E'Mpak, this is Petty Officer F'ensa, from Engineering. Patient is a 23 year old Andorian Female who reports of spontaneous skin laceration with out evidence of physical trauma. I was a bit skeptical at first until I closed the wound and then it re-opened itself." he reported. “Do you mind if I have a look F'ensa?” (Reply F’ensa) She put on some sterile gloves. “I am sorry if this is sore. I will be as gentle as I can.” She gently moved her figures over the laceration. “Have you had trauma to that exact spot before today F'ensa?” (Reply F’ensa) She looked over to Fuller. “Nathan what did you use to heal the wound?” (Reply Fuller) E’Mpak thought for a moment trying to recall anything like this from her combat experience. ~Could be Navarone syndrome. Not that takes days not minutes, Potters disease but that only effects Bolians~ “F’ensa would you mind if Nathan re-sutured your cheek while I used the bio-bed’s sensors to run some scans while he did it?” (Reply Nathan, F’ensa) (Reply, Fuller, F’ensa, any in sickbay) (Posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Marine Deck- ASEC- Ensign Marta Nunez- 1421) "You call this squared away marine?" Marta said with a bit of acid in her voice. "Since when does marine EVOC have unauthorized mods to the primary power coupling just so that some marine somewhere can get a bit more juice out of his life support? Eh?" The marine, a Security NCO now, looked straight ahead, His eyes never waivered from the invisible point that held his vision transfixed. "I want this armor back to spec within the next two hours or you'll wish to all the goodness in the universe that you'd never managed such a half-brained stunt in the first place. Do I make myself clear, Larson?" Marta continued. "Ma'am, yes ma'am." Larson barked. Marta's face turned into a real scowl now, "What did you say marine?" She barked. "Ma'am yes Ma'am!" He replied again. Nun stepped up , now looking him directly in the eyes. Her dark eyes sparkled just a little, kind of like a predator just before they pounced on an unsuspecting piece of meat. "Say that to my face Marine, I damn well dare you. I have more than enough time to teach you some self defense maneuvers." Her voice was low and held an edge that could cut skin on contact. The junior marine's eyes waivered a bit, but he replied, "Sir, Yes, sir." "That's more like it." She said. "Fall out and get to work." She did an about face and stepped away from the man, just as her commbadge chirped. =^=Raschen to Nunez; check your messages, over.=^= She tapped her badge, "Understood, sir. Stand by." Marta stepped over to her terminal and quickly pulled up her messages. A moment later she deleted them and tapped her badge again. "Orders received sir. I'll get right on that clean up job in the galley. I have a few of my team that need some extra duty. Nunez out." With a swift spin and a full voice, she barked out her orders. I want you to make those available to every single member of the ship's crew and then set up a rotating schedule of some sort that will allot time to every member of the crew to contact their families and friends. Can you have it ready within an hour?" ”Yes Sir.” Robert turned back to his console. The first task was not that difficult. All he had to do was to copy the guideline file into the all send internal messaging service and a copy would go to every member of the crew automatically. The second task was a bit more complicated. The Rosenante had about 850 crewmembers give or take and he had to give every one a decent amount of time but also not make it last all month. He divided the crew with 24 hours and found that it would give each crewmember about 35.4 minutes each. He then went through the departments and species trying to fix a time so that every one could speak to who they wanted. He looked up at the chronometer it had not taken him as long as he had thought so he up loaded the data to the Captain. Several things were crowding his mind. What had his family been through? Were they even alive? SF Command as worried to be sure. He figured s sudden appearance of a fleet of ships presumed lost would worry his if he were SF CinC. He was working on on a rotation where crew could contact their families. Was his mum and step-dad even alive living? He scheduled himself last to contact home. Captain Salid was speaking to a SF Science team about their coming aboard and doing a detail study of the Rosenante. Seylar dropped a bomb by announcing =^= Eight in the science team and Commander Rosita and his two escorts from SFI=^= ~S*** Rosita. That SOB~ Tom groaned and hoped no one heard him. "Captain, keep our tactical status at normal? Any advanced tactical status such as raising shields will also be blindingly apparent." Ahmed glanced up from his report and nodded. "Agreed, Commander, But pass the word to the crews to stand at yellow alert, and have all critical sections manned and ready for action." (reply Sullivan) Ahmed handed the PADD back to the bridge specialist and then rose from the center chair. "Commander, you have the CONN," He said. "Agreed, Commander, But pass the word to the crews to stand at yellow alert, and have all critical sections manned and ready for action." ~Counterman a clandestine order I just gave, that will certainly confuse them. Security should be fine the department is designed to be ready at a moments notice to escalate readiness levels. If I send another clandestine message to the other departments, that increases the chances of SFI finding and using them as 'evidence' of our untrustworthyness. Perhaps, Star Fleet Regulation 46A? But any encryption will be noticed and used as 'evidence' as well. Perhaps a combination of sentient nature and regulation 46A.~ A long pause for thought and T'Larah nodded once in acknowledgement, "Understood." She sent another message, this one not coded. She sent to all department heads but herself. [Department Heads; Most of you where here when Commander Caskie first took command as XO. If you will remember she was stuck away in her office for several hours before throwing random inspections and drills at everyone. She's been in her office for quite some time. Sullivan was not looking forward to the science and intellegence teams beaming aboard. (Reply Department Heads) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Transporter Room- CSEC- LT Chance Raschen- 1520) Christine and her science team rematerialized on the transporter platform in the Rosenante's Transporter room without a hitch. The eight person team was loaded down with a great amount of equipment that they had found was essential to the conduct of their mission; namely to scan and determine if the reports from the Rosenante were on the level. Chance didn't know exactly what it was that they were looking for. What he did know was that the scientists were looking for two kinds of particles, and somehow one stabilized the other. The Ex-Privateer was more focused about the next group to beam up. The middle aged science team leader looked out at the small transporter room. "Request permission to come aboard" She said formally. "Ma'am, with the Captain's compliments, permission to come aboard is granted." Raschen said with a bow of his head and a touch of 'Southern Gentleman' shall we say. With a nod she stepped off the platform, offering her hand to the man that had been given them permission to board. "Thank you Lieutenant. I'm Christine Seyler, and these are members of my science team; Ensigns Latimer, Firenze, T'Bon, Logia, Simeon, Fr'thbeltak, and Brock. I assume you know why we are here?" "Yes Ms. Seyler, we have been informed why you are here. But first, if you will allow me ma'am; I am Lieutenant Chance Raschen, may I present Ensign Louis Remey, Lieutenant Tom Jackson, Lieutenant Steven Matrix, and Ensign Robert Smith. "It's a pleasure to meet you." Christine said with a short nod of her head. "Personally I'd like to get underway as quickly as possible. The sooner I can get started the sooner I can get out of your hair. Besides, LCDR Rosita is already unhappy about the length of time that your captain has made him wait." Another smile, "I'd prefer to be clear of this compartment when he arrives. He has a tendency to be a bit pompous and arrogant." Chance smiled broadly at the woman and rhetorically asked "Just a 'tendency'; are you sure he is from intel?" He then turned to his compatriots "Gentlemen, if you would be so kind as to help the lady and her team gets started." he said as he waved his arm toward the Transporter Room door. (Reply any iyw) After the scientists and their escort departed to begin their scans, Chance turned to look at the transporter platform. All signs of pleasantness left his features and a fire arose in his eyes as he prepared himself for the next several hours. Raschen had a very simple rule when it came to meetings with allies and enemies alike, 'I will treat you as you treat me'. Raschen had hoped and prayed that it wouldn't be the same Rosita that he had met during the Civil War when Chance was still a Loyalist privateer in the I.F.F. Using the name 'Temerarious', Chance commanded one of the ships that took part in the loyalist victory over the 52nd at the Battle of Ka-Roc. The 52nd was actually on the verge of winning that fight, but someone somewhere did, or didn't do, something and the Loyalist won the day. After the battle, the group and ship commanders, plus their first and second officers, that took part in the fight held a meeting. The Loyalist was under orders not to take any prisoners; killing in battle was one thing, but no one really wanted to commit murder after that engagement (that was a hardliner kind of thing), and nobody really wanted to be murdered hence the meeting. At the meeting Chance was the only ship captain present that did not wear a Starfleet uniform, his first and second officers remained aboard ship, and this popinjay of an arrogant little cuss named Rosita started calling the privateer all kinds of names. But when he threatened to find out who his family was and 'see to it they are disposed of', Chance just lost it. He grabbed that schmuck by the hair and slammed his head into the table top, breaking his nose and giving the man a concussion before letting the man drop to the floor like a sack of potatoes. You just do not mess with that man's family, I don't care who you are. Couple of minutes after the scientists departed the transporter room of the USS Rosenante received more 'guests' as the Starfleet intelligence team beamed aboard the ship. The Lieutenant Commander and his two assistants stood ready to do their job. And as if to add insult to injury, the senior of the two assistants had been Chance's parole officer at one time after his mutiny on the Dennison and subsequent defection to the 52nd. The Intel-team stepped forward as soon as they were able. There was no formal request to come aboard. Technically, they had all the authority needed to do so, but Raschen knew that just out of simple courtesy, some formalities needed to be adhered to. The small black beady eyes of the light commander scanned the room and stopped upon Chance Raschen stood wearing the yellow uniform tunic of the fleet. "Captain Temerarious," The Intel-agent said with a voice dripping of disdain "I didn't realize that Captain Salid was still dealing with Pirates these days." "Cutting straight to the chase, huh? Well commander, at least you've learned to respect your betters' since Ka-Roc." Chance fired back. Luis smiled. "I have a job to do today Lieutenant. I'll be speaking to you at length soon enough." "Perhaps you should have started on a nicer note then sir." The Chief of Security stated. "I get to spend your time on board bringing the same kind of joy to your life that you bring everyone else's here." Raschen finished in the most sarcastic tone he could muster. Another wry smile graced Luis' lips. He held out a PADD for the lieutenant. "Here is a list of the personnel that I will need to speak with. Please have them report to the First Officer's Office. One every hour on the hour until the list is exhausted. You'll notice that they are your senior staff officers. I'll be using that room for my interviews." "Sorry sir, but arrangements have been made for these interviews to take place down in the Marine Detachment Commander's office. Science teams are scanning for." Raschen shrugged "some odd particles and that section will be one of the last scanned. That and the Captain doesn't like people in locations where they can gain access to things they're not supposed to." "No I don't suspect he does, but that's not really important. I have the full authority to determine the fate of this ship, and I really don't think that it would be in the Captain's best interest to disagree with me on this point." Raschen was all ready to just kill the jerk, but he remembered what the skipper had told him. In Chance's mind it had boiled down to 'give as good as you get, but don't do anything that will cause shooting to start.' Instead what he said to the commander was "That may be true, but you should be careful sir. One day someone will come after you with the same tenacity, and zealotry that you have for going after others." Then as if to show his superiority "I'll begin with Commander Caskie at 1800. Once that interview is complete, we'll speak with Commander Sullivan at 1900, Lieutenant Jackson at 2000, Lieutenant Matrix at 2100, Ensign Remey at 2200, Lopez at 2300, and Ensign Smith at 2400 and down the list. I have you scheduled for 0300." Luis explained with a smile. "Very well Commander, I will be more than happy to send this list along with your request to use the FO office. But first, if you gentleman will follow me to the Brig, we can check your weapons and verify your identification." (Reply Rosita, any iyw) "It's your choice sir; we can do this the easy way or the hard way. And I don't think you really want us to take yawls jackets, boots, and belts. And make you hold these interviews in MY office. " The Chief of Security stated as the doors opened to show Nunez, Rosenbauer, and a pair of large security NCOs ready to escort the three Intelligence agents down to the Brig area. (Reply Rosita, any iyw) (Reply Rosita, any iyw) Charlie Raschen --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Transporter Room- SFI LCmdr Luis Rosita - Day 1731- 1524) "Very well Commander, I will be more than happy to send this list along with your request to use the FO office. But first, if you gentleman will follow me to the Brig, we can check your weapons and verify your identification." Luis bristled at the comments made by the security chief. He could have forced his way into things, but in this case he decided it wasn't to his benefit to play too much hard ball. "There's no need for a security verification Lieutenant. I'm fairly certain that we know each other well enough. As for weapons, we're not carrying any. There's no need. All the force that we need is beyond this ship's hull. But do call the captain and tell him I'd appreciate using the FO's office." "It's your choice sir; we can do this the easy way or the hard way. Luis took a double take. Before he took one step forward. "Maniac Mike Rosenbauer. You Sunova... When did they make you fleet? Last I heard you were A Major in the rangers." he thrust his hand out towards his old academy classmate. "Hello Luis." Mike said, then took the man's hand and shook it twice. "How's the wife and kids?" the big man asked. "Doing well enough Maj- I mean ensign. What the hell happened?" "Politics happened. Doenitz Happened. I had to resign my commission and join the 52nd, I couldn't stomach the needless slaughter." Luis nodded once. "I completely understand. Sometimes we were asked to do some questionable things for the service." "Yes we were. It really told a lot about a person. Whether they were cruel or compassionate, didn't it?" Mike replied with a slight acid to his tone." Luis dropped his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath, before looking the big man in the eyes a second time. "Hard decisions had to be made, a lot of good people died on Altus III" Suddenly Mike burst forward into a blur of motion, his right hand driving itself into Luis' jaw, staggering him. It felt like he'd been hit by a sledgehammer. The Starfleet intelligence officer staggered hard, caught his footing, just in time to take a hard hammer blow to the gut, which folded him in half. He placed his palms on the floor to keep himself from falling over, willing his lungs to take in more air. Mike had always been as fast as a lighting bolt. Someone must have grabbed him, because no more blows came in to punish Rosita. A few short painful breaths later and Luis was able to look up and see a woman holding him back the other two Intelligence men had moved forward but were held at bay by two large burly looking men. Finally, Kaposi helped Luis to his feet. "I want that man arrested for assaulting a superior officer..." Lieutenant Nureyev was demanding, his finger jabbing at Mike, "...I'll be damned if he..." "No." Luis stated. As he regained his breath. Every eye turned to him. "But that man just assaulted you.." Yuri said, the outrage still present in his voice. "I said no, Lieutenant." Luis managed, then looked Mike dead in the eye. " Mister Rosenbauer had something to collect from me and now he's done it. I owed him that at least. Let him go." The woman, a member of the Rosenante's security team, named Nunez complied. Mike took a step forward. His massive hands were balled into fists. There was a rage in his eyes just short of Murder. "I told you that I'd kill you if I saw you again Rosita." Mike half-snarled. "You're damn lucky that I don't take you apart right here for what you did." "I might be luckier if you did, Mike." Luis replied. After all, the events on Altus III, still haunted him. "It's that thought that allows me to just give you a little beating instead of putting you down like the rabid dog you are." Luis nodded, he took two steps back away from the ex-Ranger and looked at Raschen. "Lieutenant Temerarious. I'd be glad to conduct these interviews wherever you'd like. Right after we have our identities verified and are checked for weapons. If that suits you." (reply Raschen) "Then please, Lieutenant...Lead the way." (reply Raschen) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Transporter Room- COPS- LT Thomas J. Jackson - 1525) Tom, Chance Raschen and assorted others waited in the Transporter Room. The science team really didn't bother most of them. SI was another matter. Jackson had had a run-in years a go with Lt Cmdr. Rosita. It had been while Tom was on a Ferengi trade vessel and SFI thought there were smuggling arms to some bad guys. What had happened was the vessel had been carrying some bootleg Romulan goods (namely Ale). He remembered the Lt Cmdr. has a self-inflated bag of hot air. Chance and his attention were turned to the pads as the Science folks beamed aboard. Not being much of a social butterfly, he elected to let Chance to handle the intrudctionary formalities. The leader of the Science crew was named Christine Seyler. To Tom's eyes she seemed attractive and had a warm smile. As Chance introduced his companions, when he reached Tom Jackson, jackson said "welcome aboard Lieutenant". (reply: Lt Seyler) Chance and Christine chatted some more. She indicated a desire to vacate the room beofre Lt Cmdr Rosita arrived. Tom nodded in agreement. "Lt Raschen, Ensign Remy and Lt Matrix and I can escourt our collegaues her if you like?" Jackson offered. (reply: Chance) The science team and their escorts quickly left the Transporter area. (reply: any in Sicne group, escourts) (posted by: Bill West) Lt Tom Jackson --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Brig- CSEC- LT Chance Raschen- 1541) ~I’ll have to find out what happened between those two at Altus III~ Raschen thought as he replayed in his mind what had transpired between the Ex-Ranger and the Intelligence Agent. In all honesty though, Chance loved how it all unfolded and ending with Luis saying "Lieutenant Temerarious I'd be glad to conduct these interviews wherever you'd like. Right after we have our identities verified and are checked for weapons, if that suits you." ~I think I’m just going to let him keep calling Temerarious until it’s time for my ‘interview’~ Chance decided. Everything seemed to go peacefully, considering what had transpired in the Transporter Room. “Commander Rosita, apparently you have affected some folks on this vessel at one time or another. For that reason, in addition to the continued well being of you and your staff, I am moving the location of your interviews to my office. That way there if someone else decides to take a swing at you, it’s roughly 30ft from my office to the cell for the assailant to cool off and you remain relatively unharmed. Agreed.” Raschen didn’t intend for the last word to be considered a request. (Reply Rosita, anyone else welcome to) “The two NCOs will keep guard outside my office door. Commander, I will be hovering over you and each one of my assistants will be with one of yours.” (Reply any) “We will remain paired up like that until sir until you three depart this vessel.” Chance answered. “Now Commander, if you and your staff could join me and mine in my office, you can prepare for your interviews, and we can get some food delivered so nobody goes hungry. Besides I want to know if you did at Altus III was along the same line of what you threatened me with at Ka-Roc. (Reply Rosita, any who wish) Charlie Raschen --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- CSEC's Office- SFI LCmdr Luis Rosita - Day 1731- 1900) Rosita had just finished his interviews with Commander Caskie, the Rosenante's first officer and was just finishing up the last of his notes on his PADD when the door chime sounded. "Enter" he called without looking up. "Sir, Lieutenant Commander Sullivan is here to see you now." Kaposi reported. Luis looked up and smiled, then gave him a single nod. That was all the confirmation that the Ensign required. A few moments later the door opened a second time and T'Larah Sullivan entered the office. her eye flitted over to Lieutenant Raschen, who true to his word was off to one side of the room observing. So far the lieutenant had been blissfully silent. "Welcome Commander, " Luis said cordially enough. "Please get yourself something from the replicator if you'd like and then have a seat. We'll start momentarily." He continued tapping out the notes on his PADD as if she hadn't arrived Early and as she settled into her chair, he placed the PADD on the desk in front of him and regarded her. She was pretty enough for his tastes, although he suspected that her Vulcan side would probably take offense to his thinking so. He smiled, leaned forward slightly and steepled his fingers in front of him. "Commander, you have an impressive record." he began, " A great many medals and commendations. Good academic record, performance reviews and the like. I find it to be refreshingly easy to decipher." He tapped the PADD on the table gently with the forefinger of his right hand. "However, I couldn't help but notice that you're otherwise spotless and exemplary record has one very dark tarnish on it." (reply Sullivan) "It seems that a few years ago, you selected to obey an unlawful order given by this ship's commanding officer that resulted in this ship leaving her assigned patrol area. There were no formal complaints from you logged on record against allowing such an act to take place despite the fact that it was apparent that the captain had advised you that he was breaking orders given to him by the admiralty. Do you recall the incident of which I am referring?" (reply Sullivan) "That's right, and of course in hindsight it turned out that the Captain was correct in that an Omega device was being constructed. This ship along with the USS Furious intercepted such a device at Sunali II. yet at the time you could not have possibly known that information." "If you couple that with the knowledge that you sided with the 52nd fleet, which at the time was regarded as a rogue element of the fleet, I'd almost think that showed a pattern of rebellious behavior from an otherwise solid and responsible officer." "I'd like for you to explain this anomaly for me, because I'm at a loss to do so." (reply Sullivan) "Commander, I assure you that your history bears a great deal of relevance to my investigation. First it helps me to determine if there is a potential of your potential cooperation with an as of yet undetermined conspiracy, that has unknown motives, or if these were unique incidents and that the current situation could be nothing but a terrible coincidence. So please indulge me for a moment." (reply Sullivan) "Okay now that we have that out of the way, please commander tell me, has anyone approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" (reply Sullivan) "And would you tell me if such an event had occurred?" (reply Sullivan) "I believe you, commander." Luis said after a moment. "Do you have any reason to believe that any member of this ship's crew may have any desire to undertake any plot to destabilize or overthrow the government of the UFP?" (reply Sullivan) "And what about Captain Salid? Do you have any reason or suspicion to think that he may be influenced by any external group, force or entity that may have such plans for the federation?" (reply Sullivan) "Were you aware commander that the Captain has been in contact, in the past with known associates and operatives of the Dominion. And that it was under their advice that he placed this ship in a position to be potentially destroyed in pursuit of the Omega device previously mentioned?" (reply Sullivan) "Has it occurred to you commander that the Dominion would have been aware that the Rosenante was off-station and that there would be a gap in our patrol perimeter which could have been exploited as a result of the captain's decision?" (reply Sullivan) Luis nodded, "One last question commander. Please explain to me the anomaly that was reported to have brought forward in time. Include the events leading up to the event as well as those immediately following the event. Give me as many details as possible." (reply Sullivan) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - CSEC Office - 2O/CTAC - Lt Cmdr T'Larah Sullivan - 1903) T'Larah was ushered in by one of the enlisted security officers. She entered and took survey of the room, the SFI officer with his crimson collar in Raschen's seat and Charlie himself standing in the corner. The security chief did not appear amused. Obviously Charlie was here because of something this smug SFI officer did. It didn't matter what he did though, because the fact that Charlie was here let T'Larah know to be on guard. "Welcome Commander, " Luis said cordially enough. "Please get yourself something from the replicator if you'd like and then have a seat. We'll start momentarily." he offered, T'Larah didn't move and patiently waited. The Lt Cmdr across the desk made some final notes into his PADD when he was finished he placed his notes on the borrowed desk. T'Larah felt a wave of amorous feelings emanate from the man for an instant, then it subsided. "However, I couldn't help but notice that you're otherwise spotless and exemplary record has one very dark tarnish on it." "You have to enlighten me Commander, I don't know what you are talking about." she replied. "It seems that a few years ago, you selected to obey an unlawful order given by this ship's commanding officer that resulted in this ship leaving her assigned patrol area. There were no formal complaints from you logged on record against allowing such an act to take place despite the fact that it was apparent that the captain had advised you that he was breaking orders given to him by the admiralty. Do you recall the incident of which I am referring?" "Is that the same incident where Starfleet Command ordered us until just recently not to discuss it with anyone?" she inquired. She already knew what he was talking about, but decided to see where he was going with all this. "That's right, and of course in hindsight it turned out that the Captain was correct in that an Omega device was being constructed. This ship along with the USS Furious intercepted such a device at Sunali II. yet at the time you could not have possibly known that information." "I'd like for you to explain this anomaly for me, because I'm at a loss to do so." "Commander you don't need my help. If you want to a line can be drawn from any two points, even if they are unrelated, which you seem to have done. You have the clearance to look at any of the records you wish, I don't see how my history has anything to do with it." she tactfully protested. "Commander, I assure you that your history bears a great deal of relevance to my investigation. First it helps me to determine if there is a potential of your potential cooperation with an as of yet undetermined conspiracy, that has unknown motives, or if these were unique incidents and that the current situation could be nothing but a terrible coincidence. So please indulge me for a moment." "Fine, Commander, I will. The incident in question, the Captain's actions fall well with-in General Orders Two, Four and Nine. General Order Two; Starfleet officers and agents shall at all times protect the life and liberty of the Citizens of the United Federation of Planets. General Order Four: Starfleet authorizes any and all commanding officers to countermand Starfleet regulations in the event of an extreme threat to Federation Security. General Order Nine: Starfleet personnel are required to protect and defend Federation property and territory." She quoted Starfleet policy, throwing a gauntlet down hoping he'd pick it up. She continued not allowing him to interject. "So, Captain Salid was well with-in his authority, which made the orders he gave lawful." (Reply Lt Cmdr Rosita, Lt Raschen, both iyw) "You had pointed out that we had no idea that his orders were lawful at the time. Captain Salid had been up front about that part, how he couldn't tell us what was going on, he asked us to trust him. We all did, because we knew that he would not pursue a course of action that was treacherous or deceitful. It's not in his character." she concluded her final point. (Reply Lt Cmdr Rosita, Lt Raschen) "Okay now that we have that out of the way, please commander tell me, has anyone approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" Rosita asked. "No." she said simply. "And would you tell me if such an event had occurred?" he continued. "Commander, if I knew of such a plot, I wouldn't have waited until now to tell someone. As a trained security and tactical officer, dedicated to the safety of the Federation I take such matters seriously." she finished with all seriousness. "Not at all, no." she said. The answer came easily to her. "And what about Captain Salid? Do you have any reason or suspicion to think that he may be influenced by any external group, force or entity that may have such plans for the federation?" he continued. ~Where is he going with this? Is he trying to get dirt on Captain Salid?~ "Not to my knowledge, no." she said. They investigated it, and since we didn't have the capability to beam them up due to background interference, they all boarded the shuttles that brought them there and returned to the vessel pending an evaluation of the energy readings. The energy began to build as monoliths appeared up from the planet surface. When the monoliths reached their apex the energy buildup also reached it's peak and released. The Rosenante was not able to escape the blast. At least she was well versed in the regulations. She continued not allowing him to interject. "So, Captain Salid was well with-in his authority, which made the orders he gave lawful." "So it would seem commander Sullivan, except for the point in fact that without evidence to support any claims, none of those General orders could have been claimed at the time that the Captain wished to do so." Rosita stated evenly. He was finding the limited debate refreshing. Most of the officers that he dealt with were intimidated by him, but Sullivan seemed to be giving as good as she got. "You had pointed out that we had no idea that his orders were lawful at the time." She responded, "Captain Salid had been up front about that part, how he couldn't tell us what was going on, he asked us to trust him. We all did, because we knew that he would not pursue a course of action that was treacherous or deceitful. It's not in his character." she concluded her final point. "You knew, commander?" Rosita added with a hint of sarcastic surprise. "Without empirical evidence you could have known nothing. To claim that you knew the captain's intentions would indicate an emotional response to the situation not a logical one. But that settles another entirely different set of questions I was going to ask you, Commander. Thank you for saving me the time." Rosita smiled at her, reveling in the fact that he had stung her, even if she wouldn't let it show, he felt that he had. After a moment, he continued. "Okay now that we have that out of the way, please commander tell me, has anyone approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" "Not to my knowledge, no." she said. "Were you aware commander that the Captain has been in contact, in the past with known associates and operatives of the Dominion. Luis said with a nod. "Has it occurred to you commander that the Dominion would have been aware that the Rosenante was off-station and that there would be a gap in our patrol perimeter which could have been exploited as a result of the captain's decision?" he inquired. T'Larah thought for a moment, " That could be a logical conclusion if what you say is true, but no I have seen no evidence of any such thing." "That's because the report I am referring to is classified beyond your current security clearance level." Rosita replied, "However, you are certainly free to ask the captain about this fact if you'd like. Since you trust his judgment so readily, there is no reason to believe that he would lie to you on the matter." Luis smiled and then changed the subject, "One last question commander. Please explain to me the anomaly that was reported to have brought forward in time. Include the events leading up to the event as well as those immediately following the event. It was something that was a bit more information about the potential cause of the incident. He'd have to do some more research on Xega III. "Thank you commander. I'm finished here, please return to your duties ." He watched her rise. There was a glance towards Raschen and then like that she was gone. Luis began to jot down some notes. "Enter" he called without looking up. "Sir, Lieutenant Jackson is here to see you now." Kaposi reported. Luis looked up and smiled, then gave him a single nod. That was all the confirmation that the Ensign required. A few moments later the door opened a second time and Tom Jackson entered the office. Luis Rosita gave the young man a smile. "Welcome Lieutenant" Luis said cordially enough. "Please get yourself something from the replicator if you'd like and then have a seat. We'll start momentarily." He continued tapping out the notes on his PADD as if he hadn't arrived Early and as he settled into his chair, he placed the PADD on the desk in front of him and regarded Jackson. He had matured a great deal since the last time that Luis had seen him, all those years ago aboard the Ferengi Merchant vessel. He smiled, leaned forward slightly and steepled his fingers in front of him. "How's you're step-father Pez, Lieutenant?" he began, " I assume you've had an opportunity to contact him and let him know that you were alive and well?" (reply Jackson) "Well there's plenty of time to discuss your family." Luis continued. "Right now I have a few questions for you. He tapped the PADD on the table gently with the forefinger of his right hand. "Let's start with your service record, shall we?" (reply Jackson) "It seems that you have a history of obeying unlawful orders. I see mention of the Djorn Major raid here under Captain Sash, as well as the incident a few years ago under Captain Salid at Sunali II. That show's a little bit of a pattern don't you think Lieutenant?" (reply Jackson) "Now please tell me, honestly if anyone has approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" (Reply Jackson) "Say like Lieutenant Raschen for example?" Luis gestured half-heartedly towards the security chief. (reply Jackson) "And would you tell me if such an event had occurred?" (reply Jackson) "I don't think I believe you, Lieutenant," Luis said after a moment. "you see I think you're an excellent follower, but not such a great leader. I also think that you are very likely to place friendship above your duty to the Federation. What do you think of that assessment Mister Jackson?" (reply Jackson) "I think that you have connections with one of the most notorious smugglers to come out of Ferengi space, and I think you have too many shady associates. Take Brok on Geneva Station for example, it's well known that he has connections with a very influential crowd of merchants who traffic in questionable goods." (Reply Jackson) "That may be lieutenant, but as the ship's operations officer, your position is crucial should it prove necessary to subvert a few regulations and rules. He was glad this session would soon be over. Tom hoped his anger could be reigned in. "Sir, Lt Jackson reporting as ordered" Tom said. The two eyed each other for a few moments. Then Rosita spoke "Welcome Lieutenant" Luis said cordially enough. "Please get yourselfsomething from the replicator if you'd like and then have a seat. We'll start momentarily." Tom smiled and replied "No thank you Sir" and took a seat opposite Rosita. Luis then asked about his family "How's you're step-father Pez, Lieutenant?" he began, " I assume you've hadan opportunity to contact him and let him know that you were alive and well?" Tom replied "He is well Sir, thank you for asking. my mom while ailing is also ok". (reply: Rosita) Rosita, as always got straight to the point telling Jakcson "Let's start with your service record, shall we?" "As you wish Commander" Jackson replied neutrally. Tom sensed this was not going to be pleasant and he struggled to control his temper. Luis began "It seems that you have a history of obeying unlawful orders. I see mention of the Djorn Major raid here under Captain Sash, as well as the incident a few years ago under Captain Salid at Sunali II. That show's a little bit of pattern don't you think Lieutenant?" "No Sir, it does not. Captain Sash saved the society on Djormn Major by going against conventional wisdom. The results wer justification of his actions" Jackson paused and thought for a moment. That raid brought back flood of memories mostly bad. "Sir, as far as the Sunali II incident goes, had we followed conventional wisdom again the end results would have been a massive loss of life and a possible upheavel of the UFP" Tom ended with. A few seconds of silence passed as Rosita made some notes. Tom thought ~ What the H***~ and added some more thoughts. "Commander as a serving officer, you are well aware that there are occasions where one has a judgment to make when conditions do not fit established procedures. Yes we took a chance in both those cases. I did not see a reason to oppose either captain. Again times occur when you have to trust your instincts and in these two cases I acted as I thought correct" and then Tom lapsed into silence. (reply: Rosita) Rosita looked at Jackson with small, beady eyes that were piercing and said "If you couple those incidents with the knowledge that you sided with the 52nd fleet, which at the time was regarded as a rogue element of the fleet, I'd almost think that showed a pattern of rebellious behavior from an otherwise solid and responsible officer." "I'd like for you to explain your behavior to me Mister Jackson." Tom Jackson gripped the table hard resisting the urge to slug the smug little turned sitting before him. He remembered that Lt Cmdr Rosita loved to get people riled in hopes of trippong them up. Jackson took several breaths and calmed himself. "Think what you like Cmdr Rosita. I looked at both sides and decided Doernitz was acting illegally and threw my support to the lawful functionary of SF - the 52nd fleet" Tom responded. (reply: Cmdr Rosita) Rosita didn;t let up on Jackson and added "Now please tell me, honestly if anyone has approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" "Sir, if I had heard of a plot to over ttrhow the UFP or SF I, as a sworn SF officer, would report it to the proper authorities" Jackson added. (reply: Rosita) Rosita's face hardened and he spoke again "I don't think I believe you, Lieutenant," Luis said after a moment. "you see I think you're an excellent follower, but not such a great leader. I also think that you are very likely to place friendship above your duty tothe Federation. What do you think of that assessment Mister Jackson?" jackson started to rise and glanced over at Chance who shook his head and signaled Tom to relax. Jackson sat back down. Regaining his composure Tom replied "I disagree with your assessment Commander. What matters is the assessment of my CO and First Officer. Each has indicated support in my duties. You see Cmdr rosita, i am a rarity in SF I am not actively looking to command a starship. If the opportunity did come my way,I would do my best" Tom replied. (reply: Lt Cmdr Rosita) It was quiet for a moment. Neither spoke. Lt Cmdr Rosita began again. "I think that you have connections with one of the most notorious smugglers to come out of Ferengi space, and I think you have too many shady associates. Take Brok on Geneva Station for example, it's well known that hehas connections with a very influential crowd of merchants who traffic in questionable goods." Tom considered his reply. "Commander, my family and friends would never interfere with my SF duties. I would say you might want to clean your own house. I have evidence of several of your SFI officers making use of my friends and family - claiming SF Intel classified activity" jackson retorted. (reply: Commander) Rosita began again "That may be lieutenant, but as the ship's operations officer, your positionis crucial should it prove necessary to subvert a few regulations and rules. Has any member of this ship's crew made it clear to you that they have any desire to undertake any plot to destabilize or overthrow the government of the UFP?" "No Sir. You cannot find a more loyal, hard working crew than the one assigned to this ship" Tom replied. Rosita considered his last statement. The atmosphere in the room was chilly very chilly. The SFI operative looked at Jackson and said "And what about Pez? Could he persuade you to assist him in such a plot, orin the potential profit that supporting such a plot might entail?" "Even thought my step-dad is rather well know, he would not nor could he force me to countermand the oath I swore upon commissioning" TJ replied. Rosita asked him to explain the wave and how they had been affected. Tom outlined what had occurred, the damage they suffered and how they responded. I won't deny the logic of your words. I'm simply pointing out what a man less familiar with you might see if they were only looking at your service record in an attempt to understand you better." Luis explained. Rosita looked at Jackson, his eyes fixed on the man's face. "If you couple those incidents with the knowledge that you sided with the 52nd fleet, which at the time was regarded as a rogue element of the fleet, I'd almost think that showed a pattern of rebellious behavior from an otherwise solid and responsible officer. Keep the pressure up.~ Jackson took several breaths and calmed himself. "Think what you like Cmdr Rosita. I looked at both sides and decided Doenitz was acting illegally and threw my support to the lawful functionary of SF - the 52nd fleet" Tom responded. "So it is your belief that seeking an active military break against the government of the UFP is an acceptable alternative to working within the system that was developed for such things. You are in fact advocating conflict over diplomacy lieutenant. The last I checked that was not the means by which star fleet or the Government of the UFP preferred to use to resolve conflicts or disagreements between ideologies." Rosita stated evenly, watching the reaction carefully. Rosita didn't let up on Jackson and added "Now please tell me, honestly if anyone has approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" "Sir, if I had heard of a plot to overthrow the UFP or SF I, as a sworn SF officer, would report it to the proper authorities" Jackson added. "Yet you failed to report any of your fellow 52nd Fleet officers who had actually determined that they were set to overthrow the government of the UFP. So again, lieutenant you are saying one thing while your actions are showing something else entirely." Rosita's face hardened and he spoke again "I don't think I believe you, Lieutenant," Luis said after a moment. "you see I think you're an excellent follower, but not such a great leader. I also think that you are very likely to place friendship above your duty to the Federation. If the opportunity did come my way, I would do my best" Tom replied. "I don't think you'll ever have to worry about that Lieutenant. There will never be a need for you to prove those words to me. You're a potential menace, and if I have my way, you'll never see any rank higher than the one you have now. So you'd better make the most of it, Mister Jackson." It was quiet for a moment. Neither spoke. Lt Cmdr Rosita began again. "I think that you have connections with one of the most notorious smugglers to come out of Ferengi space, and I think you have too many shady associates. Take Brok on Geneva Station for example, it's well known that he has connections with a very influential crowd of merchants who traffic in questionable goods." Tom considered his reply. "Commander, my family and friends would never interfere with my SF duties. I would say you might want to clean your own house. I have evidence of several of your SFI officers making use of my friends and family - claiming SF Intel classified activity" Jackson retorted. Rosita began again "That may be lieutenant, but as the ship's operations officer, your position is crucial should it prove necessary to subvert a few regulations and rules. Could he persuade you to assist him in such a plot, or in the potential profit that supporting such a plot might entail?" "Even thought my step-dad is rather well know, he would not nor could he force me to countermand the oath I swore upon commissioning." TJ replied. Rosita made a few notes on his PADD and then asked him to explain the wave and how they had been affected. Tom outlined what had occurred, the damage they suffered and how they responded. His work complete, Rosita then dismissed Jackson (reply None) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosnenate - COPS Quarters Deck 2020 ) Tom entered his quarters and waited for the door to slide shut. he cursed again. Rosita still had the ability to rattle Jackson. The man reminded Tom of a beady eyed little old earth possum. Tom heeded to his shower area and ripped his uniform off. He felt, sweaty, dirty and violated. Entering the shower, Jackson turned it to the highest intensity and let the system beat down upon him. Rosita's remarks about his career still stung. ~Maybe the SOB is right and I am a follower and will never be a leader~ Tom was really down. he suspected most of the interviewees felt similarly. Existing the shower, Jackson dressed in casual clothes and sat at his terminal and checked the ship's status and for any messages sent to him. Thankfully, things were ok and he was free for a few hours. He also checked the availability of communicating with his mom and step-dad. He sat before the thermal and waited for the SF Logo to disappear and his family to appear. He smiled as the face of his step-dad, Pez, came into view. "Hi Pez how are you and mom" Tom asked. =^= I am fine mom is much better now we know you are ok Thomas=^= "I am glad to hear. It is kind of odd to explain. Basically, we got caught in something and vaulted five years into the future while it was only a brief time for us" jackson added. =^= I see Thomas. Is your crew doing well? SF Command glad to see you after all these years=^= "We'll the crew is fine - no major injuries during our time travel. SF Command, is another matter Pez" Tom replied. =^= How so Thomas?=^= Pez scowled. "Well, SF Command seems to think we are possibly trying to over throw the UFP. Oh, an old 'ffriend' of ours talked with me and asked about you" Jackson stated. =^= Oh who?=^= the ferengi wheeler dealer asked. "Luis Rosita in SF Intel" Tom said. Pez, normally, jovial, swore for a solid 30 seconds before relying. =^= That slime ball. Did he give you a hard time=^= he asked his step son. "Yes he did the SOB. He also seems to think you and I are crooks and traitors" Tom added. =^= He would. Anything else our 'friend' tell you about?" the ferengi asked. "Yes, seems he has access to my service record. he told me basically,I'd never see a command slot. I told him I could care less" Tj replied. =^= Good Thomas=^= Pez replied. He made notes to take car eof Rosita without alerting Tom Jackson. his liquidators were getting resuty and needed practice. =^= Thomas, her is your mother=^= the Ferngi and then his mom showed in the image. "Hi Mom, hope you are ok" Tom said. his heart sank as she had aged greatly over the last fiv eyears. SHe looked so frial and weak. =^= I am much better now that you are here. When can you come see us?=^= she asked. "not sure mom. SF Intel has not finished with us and SF Science is checking us over. I thknmsometim real soon" he replied anxious to see his family. "Mom, I need to go for now. As soon as I can I will come see you and Pez, I promise" Tom answered. Her reverently hoped his statement would be true. Tom closed the link an sat back deep in thought. "Enter" he called without looking up. "Sir, Lieutenant Matrix is here to see you now." Kaposi reported. Luis looked up and smiled, then gave him a single nod. That was all the confirmation that the Ensign required. A few moments later the door opened a second time and Steve Matrix entered the office. Luis Rosita gave the man a smile. He smiled at the man, leaned forward slightly and steepled his fingers in front of him. "So you're THE Lieutenant Steve Matrix?" he asked (reply Matrix) "The same one that was once the chief engineer on the Paladin, wasn't it?" Luis continued. "I also understand that you are one of the few experts on the Spiral Drive in the fleet? A very intriguing piece of equipment that, wouldn't you say?" (reply Matrix) He tapped the PADD on the table gently with the forefinger of his right hand. "I just have a few questions for you lieutenant. Just routine stuff, nothing serious really. Let's get started shall we?" (reply Matrix) "Tell me, in your own words, why you sided with the 52nd fleet, which at the time was regarded as a rogue element? And then when you thought that you might have a chance of returning to a department head's post, you end up here as an assistant CEO under and ensign no less. Certainly, you can't be happy with such an arrangement." (Reply Matrix) "That may be lieutenant, but what is it that keeps you going here? (reply Matrix) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- CSEC's Office- ACEO Lt. Steven Matrix - Day 1731- 2102) Rosita had just finished his interviews with Lieutenant Jackson, the Rosenante's Chief Operations officer and was just finishing up the last of his notes on his PADD when the door chime sounded. Matrix waited outside the CSECs office until he was called. He had been involved with many interviews such as this one and found them interesting to say the least. Sometimes they were routine, other times they were a witch hunt. Matrix hadn't made his mind up on what this might be, but he suspected it was just a fact finding endeavor by Star Fleet. Matrix was motioned to enter the office. He stood up and waited for a response. Matrix heard "Enter"from behind the door so he entered the office. "Welcome Lieutenant" Luis said cordially enough. "Please get yourself something from the replicator if you'd like and then have a seat. We'll start momentarily." Matrix selected his favorite tea while the commander reviewed his notes. The replicator gave its familiar sound as it materialized the tea he requested. Earl Grey, hot was a crew favorite, but he liked it with honey. Matrix took the tea and sat down in the chair and looked up at the commander. "So you're THE Lieutenant Steve Matrix?" he asked Matrix smiled at the remark. No doubt it was a jab from the commander to set an uncomfortable tone that was likely to follow. "I am Lieutenant Steven Matrix, just another officer sir" replied Matrix. "The same one that was once the chief engineer on the Paladin, wasn't it?" Luis continued. "I also understand that you are one of the few experts on the Spiral Drive in the fleet? A very intriguing piece of equipment that, wouldn't you say?" "Yes commander, I was the CEO aboard the Paladin. She was a fine ship and her crew one of the best I've had the honor to serve with" replied Matrix. He shifted in his chair slightly and took a drink of tea. "The spiral drive is quite possibly one of the best engineering marvels of our time" added Matrix. The commander continued, "I just have a few questions for you lieutenant. Just routine stuff, nothing serious really. Let's get started shall we?" "Absolutely commander, by all means" smiled Matrix. ~Here we go.~ "Tell me, in your own words, why you sided with the 52nd fleet, which at the time was regarded as a rogue element? I'd almost think that is was a most rebellious behavior from an otherwise solid and responsible officer." "Commander at war, a civil war at that sides are not often clear, nor are we often in a position to chose sides, but I serve at the pleasure of my captain and crew. No I do not see what I chose to do and how I chose to serve as rebellious." replied Matrix. "Now please tell me, honestly if anyone has approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" Matrix gave a puzzled look, "Commander, I'm a Lieutenant in Star Fleet, and hardly a threat to the United Federation of Planets in any capacity." "And would you tell me if such an event had occurred?" asked the commander. "I'm being honest with you commander. No I have not been approached to overthrow the federation I've sworn to serve" replied Matrix. "I believe you, Lieutenant," Luis said after a moment. "But there is something that bothers me." "Hopefully I can help clear up anything that might be bothering you commander. Please proceed." replied Matrix as he took another sip of tea. "I think that you are unhappy with your current posting. I mean since the paladin was retired, you've been drifting through the fleet. You were an acting CEO aboard the Furious. And then when you thought that you might have a chance of returning to a department head's post, you end up here as an assistant CEO under and ensign no less. Certainly, you can't be happy with such an arrangement." Matrix reflected on what the commander had said and tried not to let it get to him personally, but he knew his blood pressure was rising. Matrix took a deep breath. "Commander, I wouldn't call my tours of duty as 'drifting' far from it. After the Paladin was retired I returned to further study warp propulsion and served at the capacity appointed to with pride and distinction. As for reporting to a CEO Ensign aboard the Rosenante, I have no problem with that. As I stated earlier, I serve at the pleasure of my captain and crew." replied Matrix. Matrix continued, "You've already noted that I'm one of a few experts in spiral drive technology. However my title, I'm serving aboard the Rosenante because of that expertise, as an assistant chief engineer. With that I have no problem." "That may be lieutenant, but what is it that keeps you going here? I mean seriously, here you are, passed over for a position that we both know should be yours and you aren't bitter about it in the slightest?" "I think you would agree commander, we chose to serve in our respective professions in Star Fleet. Like you I enjoy my work and no I am not bitter about being passed over." replied Matrix. "And what about Captain Salid? He doesn't seem to respect your abilities. If he did you'd be a department head by now. Do you have any reason or suspicion to think that he may be influenced by any external group, force or entity that may have such plans for the federation?" Matrix stirred his tea and took another sip. "Captain Salid respects everyone that serves with him. The captain would not keep anyone within his command that he did not respect, nor do I think the captain would command his ship in a manner reflecting any external influences." said Matrix Luis nodded, "One last question. Please explain to me the anomaly that was reported to have brought forward in time. Please include the events leading up to the event as well as those immediately following the event. Give me as many details as possible." "Well commander, my vantage point is limited of the events in question. I was in engineering so my knowledge of what transpired was relayed from the bridge. The bridge called down to verify chronometer readings and to ensure that all systems were functioning properly. After the time change verification I spent a fair amount of time tracking down anomalies throughout the ship. Luckily the effected areas were confined to non-critical sections of the ship." Matrix took a moment and continued. "As I recall the Chroniton activity was confined to deck 7, sections 111 through 123 and deck 9...I believe general quarters and some activity in the environmental systems on deck 8. To my knowledge no personnel were adversely affected." Give me as many details as possible." (reply Remey) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- CSEC's Office- ACSO Ensign Loius Remey - Day 1731- 2201) Loius waited nervously outside the office as Lt. Matrix was interviewed, shortly after the man had left an officer stuck his head outside and waved him in. Squaring his shoulders Louis tood to his feet and made his way to the door. None of the officers who had entered here before him had appeared to leave happily but there was no conversation allowed as to what had transpired inside. ~StarFleet Intelligence. What a group.~ There were all kinds of tales circulating during his time in the fleet as to just what these people were capable of ... and what lengths they were willing to go to to carry out their duties, some of them far beyond the scope of what one would consider lawful behavior. Had his orders been to stonewall the guy inside he would have been quite happy to oblige but they had been told to be cooperative so he sucked in his metaphorical gut and went about it. The officer was writing something down as he entered with Lt. Raschen maintaining a vigilant posture nearby, he looked up as Louis cleared the doorway. The officer gave him a welcoming smile. ~Like a shark perhaps? Get a hold of yourself Louis.~ "Welcome Ensign. Please get yourself something from the replicator if you'd like and then have a seat. We'll start momentarily." He considered it as the man returned to his padd but decided he wasn't thirsty, that is until he had thought it, immediately afterward his mouth started to get dry. ~It's all in your head Louis.~ It wouldn't do to get cotton mouthed in the middle of a question though so he walked to the replicator and got a glass of water ... just in case. After that he walked to the chair opposite the man and sat down which caused the man to look up and set his padd aside. He smiled and laced his fingers together before him conjuring a mental picture of a snake with hands, that caused Louis to smile a bit, it was so incongruous. "So you're new to the Rosenante Mister Remey?" he asked "Yes." He replied. "Relatively." And tell me how have you felt about your time on board? And might I ask why you selected to transfer?" It reminded Louis of an interview of all things, the guy had obviously been practicing. "I was tired of being confined to a starbase if you can believe that." He began. "I wanted a bit more mobility and the posting here on the Rosenante became available. I thought it might be fun to have a planet to traipse about on from time to time rather than metal decks." The man tapped his finger on the padd as though formulating a question. "I just have a few questions for you Ensign. Just routine stuff, nothing serious really. Let's get started shall we?" Louis shrugged. "Shoot." "Tell me, in your own words, why you joined Starfleet." That was an easy one, too easy really. "I wanted to join the medical sciences division of starfleet, it dovetailed with my interests in molecular biology which I wanted to apply to new life forms. Got kind of sidetracked though." He grinned. "Comes in handy in my fleet position though." The question that followed certainly changed the track of thought though. "Now please tell me if anyone has approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" Louis' eyes opened a bit at that one. "Hell no!" "And would you tell me if such an event had occurred?" Was the follow up question. "Right after I told the captain." Louis snorted. "So that the louse could find a nice comfy cell in the brig." "I believe you, Ensign," The officer said after a moment of thought. "Do you believe that there is ever an appropriate time to take up arms against the government? If so, can you explain to me when that time may well be?" Louis' face clouded over at that, talk about a leading, not to mention insulting question. "If the government is sanctioning genocide against its own people I don't see as it gives a law abiding and patriotic citizen much choice so your answer would be yes. As for when that time is?" he gave the man an incredulous look. "That would be right after it becomes known said goverment is committing said atrocities. I assume you are leading up to something?" Indeed he was, it boiled down to the war of course. "And besides the civil war, do feel that another such time may be coming, or are you anticipating such a time in the near future?" He shook his head negatively. "No I don't see such a time coming and that's the truth. I hope it never happens again." "And how do you feel about the way Starfleet Command has handled your return? Do you feel that they were justified? Do you feel that you were insulted or slighted in any way?" The questions were treading farther and farther onto dangerous ground. Louis had heard of such interrogations, they would lure you into a false sense of security then gradually draw you into a quagmire, if you weren't careful along the way you would find yourself in a tarpit. "You want honesty?" he said rhetorically. "I think it could have been handled better but then again I don't know what conditions are like on the outside, none of us do so I don't know if it is justified. I personally feel like I have been treated with less than cordial means yes." "And do you think that any of your shipmates may have reason to be significantly unhappy with such events or actions that took place after your return? Have you heard anyone discussing any plots or even in passing discussing with any seriousness the concept of beginning another conflict now that the 52nd fleet is together at Khitomer?" That was another easy one. "If they feel that way then they haven't confided in me." he met the man's gaze coldly. "And no one has been discussing war on this ship that I know of. If they had I would not be hesitant to say so." The man turned a look on Chance then back at Louis. "Should I ask Lieutenant Raschen to step outside for a moment? Would it make you feel more comfortable?" Louis chuckled. "I have nothing to hide from him so no." Luis nodded, "One last question. Please explain to me the anomaly that was reported to have brought forward in time. Please include the events leading up to the event as well as those immediately following the event. Give me as many details as possible." That was right up the science officers alley, no questions of intent or policy, just the facts. "An energy wave was detected approaching the ship at a geometrically increasing speed, just before it hit chronitron particles were detected in a high density. At the report to the captain he ordered the ship to go to red alert and turned us into the energy wave in order to more effectively ride it out, there was no time to determine where it originated. When it hit the ship was rocked pretty hard and time distortions occured on board. I managed to set the sensors to record the data just before that. Perceived time seemed to slow drastically, the red alert klaxon and lamp were affected and seemed to go on interminably. The main viewcreen showed a number of vessels from the fleet as well as from other cultures appearing and disappearing. The movements and speech of the other officers on the bridge also slowed perceptibly." "When the affect subsided perceived time returned to its normal flow and the movements of the officers including myself and functions of the ship returned to normal speed. The chronometers showed that we had been catapulted nearly five years into our future." "And that." he said flatly. "Was that." "The ships systems including warp drive and communications went down, when communications came back on line Starfleet was notified of our whereabouts and condition. There is a complete file of readings taken in the science database. Chronitron levels have decreased steadily since the phenomenon at about .5 percent per hour. Do you have any other questions?" (Reply by Rosita) (posted by shawn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- CSEC's Office- SFI LCmdr Luis Rosita - Day 1731- 2400) Rosita had just finished his interviews with Ensign Lopez, the Rosenante's Assistant Chief Medical officer and was just finishing up the last of his notes on his PADD when the door chime sounded. "Enter" he called without looking up. "Sir, Ensign Smith is here to see you now." Kaposi reported. Luis looked up and smiled, then gave him a single nod. That was all the confirmation that the Ensign required. A few moments later the door opened a second time and Louis Smith entered the office. Luis Rosita gave the man a smile. "Welcome Ensign " Luis said cordially enough. "Please get yourself something from the replicator if you'd like and then have a seat. We'll start momentarily." He continued tapping out the notes on his PADD as if he hadn't arrived early and as he settled into his chair, he placed the PADD on the desk in front of him and regarded Smith. He smiled at the man, leaned forward slightly and steepled his fingers in front of him. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mister Smith" he asked smiling at the young man sitting across from him. (reply Smith) "I've met a great many of the Smith family in my time in the fleet. Your Brother Robert sends his best wishes and says that he's happy that you're alive and well." (reply Smith) He tapped the PADD on the table gently with the forefinger of his right hand. "I just have a few questions for you Ensign. Just routine stuff, nothing serious really. Let's get started shall we?" (reply Smith) "Has anyone approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" (Reply Smith) "And would you tell me if such an event had occurred?" (reply Smith) "I believe you, Ensign," Luis said after a moment. "Do you believe that there is ever an appropriate time to take up arms against the government? If so, can you explain to me when that time may well be?" (reply Smith) "And besides the civil war, do feel that another such time may be coming, or are you anticipating such a time in the near future?" (Reply Smith) "And how do you feel about the way Starfleet Command has handled your return? Do you feel that they were justified? Do you feel that you were insulted or slighted in any way?" (reply Smith) "And do you think that any of your shipmates may have reason to be significantly unhappy the such events or actions that took place after your return? Have you heard anyone discussing any plots or even in passing discussing with any seriousness the concept of beginning another conflict now that the 52nd fleet is together at Khitomer?" (reply Smith) Luis nodded, "One last question. Please explain to me the anomaly that was reported to have brought forward in time. Please include the events leading up to the event as well as those immediately following the event. Give me as many details as possible." (reply Smith) Daniel Greene ===================================================================== (USS Rosenante- CSEC's Office- ACOPS –Ensign Smith - Day 1732- 0002 ) Robert entered the room and looked at the Rosita who was sitting behind a desk. "Welcome Ensign " "Please get yourself something from the replicator if you'd like and then have a seat. We'll start momentarily." Robert nodded and ordered a cup of tea before sitting down across from Rostia who was looking at his PADD. Rosita gave him a smile, then leaned forward slightly towards him and steepled his fingers in front of him. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mister Smith" ”Is it Sir?” ~Yeh coz I just like being interrogated by spooks~ "I've met a great many of the Smith family in my time in the fleet. Your Brother Robert sends his best wishes and says that he's happy that you're alive and well." Robert paused for a moment. He had not thought about his family since there five year shift. The conversation had caught him rather off guard. ~”Sat-Nav” blimy he must be right old now~ “Umm thank you sir.” "I just have a few questions for you Ensign. Just routine stuff, nothing serious really. Let's get started shall we?" Roberts mind snapped back to the situation in hand. ~Time to get focused~ “Yes Sir.” "Has anyone approached you with an intention of recruiting you for any activities that would constitute a potential plot to overthrow the appointed government of the United Federation of Planets?" ”No Sir.” "And would you tell me if such an event had occurred?" ”Yes Sir.” "I believe you, Ensign," ~Well that’s bloody lucky isn’t it~ "Do you believe that there is ever an appropriate time to take up arms against the government? If so, can you explain to me when that time may well be?" ”The civil war Sir.” "And besides the civil war, do feel that another such time may be coming, or are you anticipating such a time in the near future?" ”If there is no one has spoken to me Sir.” ~Yeh coz people are going to tell me about there master plans~ "And how do you feel about the way Starfleet Command has handled your return? Do you feel that they were justified? Do you feel that you were insulted or slighted in any way?" ~No course not. Being escorted to this place like a criminal and then being treated like some freak show. Insulted now course not.~ “A little sir.” "And do you think that any of your shipmates may have reason to be significantly unhappy the such events or actions that took place after your return? Have you heard anyone discussing any plots or even in passing discussing with any seriousness the concept of beginning another conflict now that the 52nd fleet is together at Khitomer?" Robert frowned for a moment before answering. “No Sir I do not.” Luis nodded, "One last question. Please explain to me the anomaly that was reported to have brought forward in time. Please include the events leading up to the event as well as those immediately following the event. Give me as many details as possible." Robert paused for a moment gathering his thoughts before answering. “Well Sir. The Boss um I mean Lieutenant Jackson was on the main Ops console and Lieutenant Yalix was on the mission control console. The Skipper was on the bridge and I was on deck 6 working on the lateral senor array. We were taking scans of the planet Xega III there was a minor problem with the lateral array. The power regulator was out of sink and so I went down there to fix it. Then the red alert klaxon sounded. I shifted my self to the turbolift then it happened. It was the weirdest thing I had every seen. The turbolift seamed to stop. Then every thing went all wobbly and bendy. The turbolift seamed to grow to fit fifty people and then shrink to just me.” Robert shook his head. “I can not really explain it very well I’m sorry but then the ship rocked and I was flung to the floor. When I had gotten to my feet the turbolift had arrived at the bridge. Where I found out that we have gone five years into the future but all of this is in my report sir.” (Reply Rosita, any) (Posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- CSEC's Office- SFI LCmdr Luis Rosita - Day 1732- 0300) Rosita had just finished the next to last interview with the Rosenante's senior staff. The last person that remained on his list was Lieutenant Chance Raschen For his part Chance had stood quietly the entire time that Luis had been interviewing some of his shipmates. The Starfleet officer realized that some of the questions had been pointed, accusative and not overly friendly. he reminded himself that it wasn't his job to make friends with these people, it was his job to determine if they were enemies of the state. He finally gestured to the man that had been hovering behind him the entire night and directed him to the chair across from him. "Might as well make yourself comfortable Chance. It's time we had our little question and answer session." Luis stated. (reply Raschen) He watched as the Security Chief settled into the chair on the other side of his desk. he looked nonchalant sitting there as if he hadn't a worry in the world. "So tell me chance how's Ed doing? Had a chance to speak with him or Margaret yet?" he asked trying to make conversation. (reply Raschen) "You know that you could have been in touch by now if you hadn't insisted on being present for all the other interviews?" Luis said with a slight smile, "But then again, you always were a little pig-headed about such things." (reply Raschen) "You'll be happy to know that you're off parole now. It seems that a Starfleet judge has decided that since you technically never left service and since you were unable to fulfill the remainder of your brig time due to service related requirements that you're time has been paid in full. that means you wont have to do any more brig tests." (reply Raschen) "A lot of bad things happened while you were gone Chance. A lot of people were killed, there was a sort of purge of the system so to speak. people are nervous with the sudden reappearance of the 52nd fleet. People are trigger happy when they're nervous. Is your captain nervous?" (reply Raschen) "It was just a simple question." Luis said, raising his hands, in mock surrender. "I'm just trying to do my part for the cause, here. You know, just like you did when you were with the I.F.F.?" (reply Raschen) "I've changed a lot since then, I thought you'd have seen that by now. but maybe not, you've been away for a long while and you haven't seen some of the things that happened while you were gone." (reply Raschen) "Heatherby for one." Luis replied wearily. "about two years after so many of the ships from the fleet disappeared so suddenly, Heatherby made a move to seize control of the Federation. he had developed some sort of Omega weapon, assembled a fleet of loyal starships, about twenty of them and made a run for Earth." Luis' eyes turned to look at Raschen. "A taskforce under Admiral Derringer met them in a little known star system known as Rayet 302-A. Derringer's taskforce out numbered Heatherby two-to-one. But Errol was prepared. A smaller group led by some of your old I.F.F. compatriots and a few mercenary starships from the Romulans Star Empire, Cardassian Union and Klingon Empire decloaked and laid into the defense fleet. Twenty-one ships were destroyed, most with all hands." "Errol always was a smart one, but he didn't get too much closer to Earth. He detected a second taskforce under Admiral Solaro making to intercept. He pulled back to the Alpha Orus System, to make his stand. And what a stand it was, Heatherby punished Solaro's taskforce, but in the end Admiral Solaro had more ships and was better dedicated to the fight. Heatherby called the retreat, but not before he made an example of Solaro's entire taskforce." Luis paused for a moment. "He used an Omega Device to cover his rear guard action. he wiped out forty-three ships and all their crew. Wrecked the entire area for roughly 30 light-years. then he just disappeared. No word, not sign of him or his fleet. The thirteen ships that we know of that survived the battle just vanished without a trace." He met Chance's eyes. "No one knows how. No one knows why. And most importantly no one knows if he's able to return." There was another short pause, "So you see, His fleet disappeared a lot like yours did. But yours is back and now everyone is fearing the worst. You can imagine the tumult that's taking place on Earth right now I suppose?" Luis added. (reply Raschen) Luis's eyes narrowed. "A lot of good people died, and I want to know what you might know about Heatherby. Do you know where he might have gone? Do you have any information about where he might be hiding? Does T'Lela?" (reply Raschen) "There's no threat there, Chance. It's just a question. It's an important question. I don't think this fleet is a threat to anyone at the moment, at least this ship isn't. The stories are too similar. But Heatherby...that's another story entirely. That man is not only dangerous, but capable. I think he planned on losing that fight at Alpha Orus. I think he did it to prove that he'd use an Omega Device if he was pushed. but most importantly, I think he was giving everyone a warning and that warning was that he'd be back and that the command should think twice about standing in his way to power a second time." (reply Raschen) "I'm on the level, here. I know I've been an ass, but it doesn't mean I'm not loyal to the Federation. I was a zealot in my younger days, now I'm just a guy trying to do an impossible job with too few tool and not enough information." (reply Raschen) "I know you Chance, You're a good person deep down. You have your own code and I can respect that. But I need to know what you know about Heatherby and his plans. So I'm trying to ask you nicely. It's time we had our little question and answer session." Luis stated. The Ex-Privateer got an angry look on his face “Oh goodie, Q&A; and I thought you were going to refer to me as a pirate again.” he said lacing his contemptuous tone with sarcasm. Raschen then settled into the chair on the other side of his desk and draped his left leg over the left arm of the chair just like he did when he went by the name Temerarious. "So tell me Chance how's Ed doing? Had a chance to speak with him or Margaret yet?" he asked trying to make conversation. “Not yet, and I won’t until all the personnel in my department get an opportunity to talk to theirs first. Besides, I had a more imminent problems to contend with; namely you.” "You know that you could have been in touch by now if you hadn't insisted on being present for all the other interviews?" Luis said with a slight smile, "But then again, you always were a little pig-headed about such things." “You know how I like to keep my eye on the prize. So tell me, do you have anything else to report to me Commander?” Chance said as if he once again held the position of ship’s captain. "You'll be happy to know that you're off parole now. You really expect me to answer for someone else.” Chance said insultingly. "It was just a simple question." Luis said, raising his hands, in mock surrender. "I'm just trying to do my part for the cause, here. You know, just like you did when you were with the I.F.F.?" “Perhaps” Raschen admitted with a nod and then looked the commander dead in the eyes “The difference is, you went after and destroyed folks that made honest mistakes.” "I've changed a lot since then, I thought you'd have seen that by now. But maybe not, you've been away for a long while and you haven't seen some of the things that happened while you were gone." “Like what Luis?” "Heatherby for one." Luis replied wearily. With a false frown and a shake of his head, “Okay but by your calendar that stuff with Heatherby would’ve taken place three years ago. According to you, I’ve been missing five.” asked Chance. Luis's eyes narrowed. "A lot of good people died, and I want to know what you might know about Heatherby. Do you know where he might have gone? Do you have any information about where he might be hiding? Does T'Lela?" Chance sat upright, leaned forward, and slammed the palms of his hands on the desk “Are you threatening her like you did my folks at Ka-Roc!!!” he shouted as he stood up. "There's no threat there, Chance. It's just a question. It's an important question. I don't think this fleet is a threat to anyone at the moment, at least this ship isn't. Sitting back down, “I don’t think you’re on the level. The Heatherby I know/knew was just a big an ass as you are; just a different kind. You know… a politician.” Chance said the last word with almost visible distain for that profession. "I'm on the level, here. I know I've been an ass, but it doesn't mean I'm not loyal to the Federation. I was a zealot in my younger days, now I'm just a guy trying to do an impossible job with too few tools and not enough information." “So why did you run all these good folks over the coals tonight? Even Jackson, who as much likes his step-dad, wants to get out from under his shadow. I look out for my people; you’re like a bounty hunter hired to find one specific person. Perhaps you should try new tactics?" I know you Chance; you’re a good person deep down. You have your own code and I can respect that. But I need to know what you know about Heatherby and his plans.
