Marta said as she concluded the inspection of the EVO/C armor assigned to the new converted marine newly assigned to the Rosenante. "Stow the hardware and go about your business." "Yes ma'am." Sondero replied with a sharp salute. Marta returned the salute and made a crisp about face. Now that the inspections were completed, she could return to other duties associated with her new position as Assistant Security Chief. She hadn't taken but just a few steps when her commbadge chirped for attention. =^=Nun, V’Shera; this is Rash=^= the familiar voice sounded on the other end of the channel. V'Shera responded, and then Marta Tapped her commbadge as well, "Nunez here." she replied. “Nun, get your Marines together and prep to go to the surface. Don’t load up any heavier than the Rangers; then meet me in Shuttle-bay One. V’Shera, I need you to track down a ship named Inglorious, the captain is a Klingon named Ka-Dijah. If you make contact with her, tell her Chance Temerarious might need a favor returned; if I do she will get paid; and to stand-by until I speak with her.” Mention of a Klingon ship made Marta's eyebrow quirk, but she wasn't about to question the Security Chief's orders. "You got it Chief," She replied. "Nunez out." She stopped, did an about face and turned back to the marines that were still towing their EVO/C Armor. "Okay, boys and Girls." She said, "I know you heard the chief. Gear up standard duty kit, form in Shuttle bay one in 10 minutes. Get moving." There was a chorus of hoo-hahs as the marines responded and hurried to get their inspection ready gear stowed and their standard kit grabbed. For her part in things, she just stopped by her locker and grabbed the rest of the standard duty kit, hand phaser, tricorder and Mark III rifle, before exiting the room and heading for the shuttle bay. (USS Rosenante- Marine Armory- ASEC- Ensign Marta Nunez - Day 3 - 1207) Marta arrived in the shuttle bay just a few steps ahead of 'her' marines. It was an odd feeling going from a PFC in the Corps to an Ensign in the fleet and a positional position of Assistant to the Security Chief which , in turn put her in command of ex-marines now integrated into the fleet. Still just short of the paperwork, it wasn't something that she couldn't enjoy. The ex-marines were good solid officers and they made it easy to keep them in shape and working well as a unit. She gave them a hand gesture when they entered the compartment directing them to their assembly point, and was a bit dismayed to find Rosenbauer and his Rangers already on scene. She gave out a sigh, then turned to find Raschen. When she spotted him she moved to his position, snapped to attention and saluted. "Nunez reporting as ordered Lieutenant." (reply Raschen) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Shuttle bay One, Gamma Shift Leader Lieutenant Xim- Day 3- 1200) Xim stepped into the shuttle bay with a sense of urgency to his steps. The tall officer could easily see the crowd of assembled officers about to receive their briefing from Commander Caskie. Xim was not too late. He carried a message of great personal importance to the commander and so without hesitation, he quickly waved her down to let her know to pause for a few moments longer. He reached her in record time, his long legs carrying across the open space between them quickly. "I need a moment of your time commander," He said as he arrived, "I have something to tell you which can not wait and should be delivered in private." Jennifer's eyes met his and she nodded once. "Very well lieutenant." She said, then led the way a short distance away from the assembly. It was just far enough away to prevent anyone else from hearing. Xim wasted no time. "Commander, my apologies, but the Captain sent me down here at once to convey this to you. He received a Priority Message from the admiralty. There has been some sort of accident. Ian was involved." "Oh god." Josh said. "What kind of accident?" "I do not know, The captain ordered me to replace you on the mission. It was serious enough that you should see the message and then determine your course of action." Josh nodded. "Very well Lieutenant Xim. Thank you." With that she turned and headed out of the Shuttle bay. Xim turned and returned to the assembly. He regarded the officers and began. "Commander Caskie has been called away on ship's business. Captain Salid has placed me in command of the away team for the time being. You all know what to do. Engineers will be transporting down separately with the Argo. Everyone else will be in either the Cervantes or the Rosencrantz. We depart in 18 minutes. Any questions?" (reply all) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - 2O/CTAC - Lt Cmdr T'Larah Sullivan Day 3 - 1203) T'Larah stepped on to the bridge and relieved the person at tactical. The Rose had just dropped out of warp in the Xega system mere minutes ago. She quickly assesed the console all tactical systems were ready. The satelites were standing by prepared for launch. "Tactical ready, and standing by." she reported. "Begining sensor sweeps with the lateral and long range sensors." (Reply Captain Salid, any on bridge) (Posted by Todd) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 3 - 1204) "Tactical ready, and standing by." Sullivan reported from the tactical station. "Beginning sensor sweeps with the lateral and long range sensors." "Very well, Commander." Ahmed replied, "Let me know if we find anything outside the ordinary." (reply Sullivan) "If everything comes up clear, go ahead and have the satellites deployed." He ordered. (reply Sullivan) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck 13, Shuttlebay 1 - aCMO Kimiko Ichijo- Day 3 - 1206) Kimiko rocks slightly back and forth on her heels, looking around waiting for the rest to show. ~any more quiet and I will have to start taking vitals~ Her attention fell on the marines, standing at parade rest, their faces uniformly serious; she debated briefly about making faces at them, but decided against it. ~Would not fit the image of an officer and lady.~ Kimiko racked her brain to find something to break the silence. “I was not able to find much information on the civilization that resided here.” The doctor stated “I am kind of curious of what level of technology that they had made it to.” (Reply any) (Posted by Jack) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Shuttle Bay 1- CSEC- LT Chance Raschen- 1209) As teams of crew members swarmed throughout the shuttle bay, Chance caught sight of Nun as she moved to his position, snapping to attention and saluting "Nunez reporting as ordered Lieutenant." She exclaimed. Raschen returned the salute, though it still felt kind of strange for him. It probably showed too. “Nun” he started after they dropped their salutes “The Rangers are going on one shuttle; I want you and your Marines on the other one. When we get down to the surface I want you and Mike to work together to set up a perimeter, scout the area, and then report to me. Make sure y’all have recommendations thought out as well. Lets load up now; we can discuss this more on the trip down.” (Reply Nunez iyw) Charlie Raschen ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck 13, Shuttle bay 1 -COPS Lt Tom Jackson - Day 3 - 1215) The Away Teams had pretty much assembled. Last minute instructions were being issued.Tom excused himself and entered the Cervantes shuttle and sat in the pilot's seat. He smiled and felt like he always did when flying. Jackson had made a point of taking as much flight time as possible at the Academy. The Rose's shuttles were large and more powerful than those at the Academy but the flight procedures were very similar. In his off-time Tom had run through a flight simulator on the Cervantes. He chuckled quietly as he remembered he had not managed to put any dings in the simulator. he powered the systems up and began to run through the pre-flight checklist. The systems were in perfect shape. He needed a co-pilot and decided to see if Dr. Lopez were available. Her powered the systems down and poked his head out side the shuttle. The briefing had broken up and people were departing fro last minute errands based on the FO's instructions. Tom waved at Sam Lopez. "Dr Lopez, can you come here for a moment please?" Tom asked. (reply: Sam Lopez) "Hello Dr. Sam. I was wondering if you'd be my co-pilot on the ride down?" Jackson asked (reply: Sam Lopez) Tom chuckled a bit at Sam's slight bewilderment and holding up a hand Tom said "I need you to read off the checklists and watch some gages on the way down - it is simple. Besides I thought you might like to try my side of things for a change of pace?". (reply: Sam) (posted by: Bill) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, shuttlebay one, ACMO Ensign Sam Lopez- Day 3- 1216) Sam listened as the briefing went on and everybody was assigned something. After it was finished Tom waved at Sam Lopez. "Dr Lopez, can you come here for a moment please?" Tom asked. "I`m coming lieutenant"Sam said as he walked towards tom. "Hello Dr. Sam. I was wondering if you'd be my co-pilot on the ride down?" Jackson asked Sam was surprised by the question"What would you need me to do?" Tom chuckled a bit at Sam's slight bewilderment and holding up a hand Tom said "I need you to read off the checklists and watch some gages on the way down - it is simple. Besides I thought you might like to try my side of things for a change of pace?". ~this seems like a great opportunity~"Sure why not"Sam said as everybody started boarding the shuttles. (Reply by none) (Posted by shawn) ------------------------- (Runabout Cervantes- SO Ensign Mike Rosenbauer- 1230) The Cervantes and the Rosencrantz had departed from the Rosenante once Lieutenant Xim had given them the basic rundown. It was pretty straight forward. Engineering would be working on the new Hab installation and the maintenance of the last of equipment that would be staying on the planet, and Lieutenant Matrix would be flying down the Argo Shuttle craft that would be replacing the older shuttle that was already at the site. Jackson and Lopez were piloting this particular runabout, with skill and determination, and only a slight bit of turbulence had revealed that the small vessel had made the transition from orbit to atmosphere. The ride was smooth, mostly a result of skillful piloting but also a byproduct of the thin atmosphere that remained on the world. The entire group of Rangers, plus Xim, Jackson, and Lopez were in this shuttle. In the other shuttle were the Marines, Benoit, Remey, Raschen, and Ichijo. Rixx and/or Matrix would be bringing down the Argo and with them would be some of the engineers responsible for the Hab setup and for some of the maintenance. Time seemed to float by, the trip was pleasant, not too fast and not too slow. The TriOX coursing through his bloodstream would make breathing on the planet much easier, while aboard ship it was even more efficient. Eventually the runabout slowed and came into a smooth, nearly bump-free landing. A few moments after that the doors opened and Mike and his Rangers exited the craft and onto the surface of the most alien world he had even visited. (Xega III- Landing Site- SO Ensign Mike Rosenbauer- 1300) The world of Xega III was, well... Orange. Everything took on an orange tint, people, uniforms and anything that you could see reflected the hue of the light emitted by the massive sub giant star that lit this alien world. Thin wisps of wind, shifted minute dust devils around the landing site, barely rustling the leaves of the few thick skinned looking plants that were sparingly acting as ground cover. The sky wasn't entirely clear of clouds, but it was close. The air tasted a little metallic, although the TriOX seemed to make it easy enough to breath the thin atmosphere without too much difficulty. It reminded him of being at a high altitude. ~Breathe deeper breaths and avoid hyperventilation~ he reminded himself. In the distance was the current Hab belonging to the archeological team. It was a reasonably sized affair, sporting three distinct domes. Two out buildings and a series of other necessities that marked it as a scientific station. An Argo shuttle sat parked in the dust, it's normally white hull caked with dust and taking on a strange pitted texture reminiscent of a Terran orange. the Rover was no where to be seen, but the shield perimeter stands were all visible although they were currently deactivated. About half-way between the Hab and the Runabouts was a woman. she was wearing a blue duty jumpsuit, topped with an odd bluish-orange coloring, which Mike realized meant that she was either medical or sciences. She seemed to be moving effortlessly across the expanse and would meet up with the away teams soon enough. Mike turned to his left and noted the Rosencrantz disgorging it's crew onto the landing site. He knew that soon the Argo would arrive and so he let out a small smile. "Okay, guys," he said to his squad. "Usual rules, no one goes anywhere alone, at least one security person per team. Cooper, you and Mosh, do a perimeter check, 5 Kilometers." "Sure thing," Tyrone responded and nodded at Mosh, who followed the other man as they traveled away from the landing site. Mike let the others spread out as he joined Raschen and Xim in meeting with the station personnel. "Hello." She said as she approached. Her red hair was even redder under the strange lighting offered by the local sun. "I'm Sarah, Mission Medical Officer and Xenopaleobiologist and botanist." "I am Lieutenant Xim. From the USS Rosenante. This is Lieutenant Raschen the security Chief, and Ensign Rosenbauer one of our security officers." Mike nodded at her. "Nice to meet you." Sarah Said. (Reply Raschen) "Doctor Toenkampf and the others are at the new site presently. They should be back before sundown. Please won't you join me at the Hab. We can talk and discuss what we need to get started first." Xim smiled. "Of course." The tall officer turned to Raschen, "mister Raschen please put the away teams on task and make arrangements with mister Jackson to begin the transfer of materials and supplies from the Rosenante. " (reply All) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Xega II Surface, COPS Lieutenant Tom Jackson -Day 3- 1245) The ride down had had a little turbulence but was other wise OK. They were soon settled on the surface of Xega III. Tom rubbed the injection site for the Tri-ox he and the others received before they left the ship. He had never liked injections especially ones that hurt a bit. Jackson was not overly impressed with what he saw outside the shuttle craft. It was barren and stark landscape. Xim was checking thing's and had not as yet issued the orders to exit the shuttelcraft and get the re-supply underway. "Lt Xim, may we proceed with the debarkation process?? Tom ask the mission commander. (Reply: Xim) Tom listened and nodded as the man spoke. Jackson had established communication with the base site staff. He was ready to begin the off-loading. (reply: Xim, others on shuttle, Xegas II ground staff) (posted by: Bill) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Xega II Surface, Gamma Shift Leader Lieutenant Xim- Day 3- 1255) "Lt Xim, may we proceed with the debarkation process?" Jackson asked him then. Xim turned to regard the man before giving him a single nod. "I don't see why not. Everything is in order." The Betelgeusean then turned to Rosenbauer and gave him a nod. The security officer opened the hatch and led the way onto the orange tinted surface of Xega III. It was a beautiful world, although a bit drier than he cared for. The few hardy plants that were gently swaying in the thin atmosphere almost hummed slightly as the wind passed over their oddly shaped leaves. In the not too far distance was the official site of the survey team headed by Doctor Toenkampf. The central Habitation module was large enough to house several people, and there were at least four adjacent structures attached that housed labs and other compartments necessary for the work that the Archeologists were conducting here, The structure was ringed by a series of short emitters, the rods used to generate and contain the atmospheric generators when they were active. A woman, middle-aged, was walking across the open ground between the site and the landed shuttlecraft. Xim knew well enough that this was an official greeting party and so he moved towards her, followed by Raschen, Jackson and Rosenbauer. "Hello." She said as she approached. Her red hair was even redder under the strange lighting offered by the local sun. "I'm Sarah, Mission Medical Officer and Xenopaleobiologist and botanist." "I am Lieutenant Xim. From the USS Rosenante. This is Lieutenant Raschen the security Chief, Lieutenant Jackson our chief of operations and Ensign Rosenbauer one of our security officers." Mike nodded at her. (reply Jackson, Raschen) "Nice to meet you." Sarah said. "Doctor Toenkampf and the others are at the new site presently. They should be back before sundown. Please won't you join me at the Hab. We can talk and discuss what we need to get started first." Xim smiled. "Of course." The tall officer turned to Jackson, "Mister Jackson please begin the transfer of materials and supplies from the Rosenante as soon as possible." (reply Jackson) Sarah smiled then. "Lieutenant Xim was it?" "Yes." Xim replied. "Why don't you and the rest of your team feel free to look around or pick out the temporary site for the material depot. You'll just need to make certain that you and all the equipment is inside the shield wall before nightfall. The terminator brings a very powerful windstorm that can be very disruptive and potentially dangerous." Xim nodded. "I understand. We will take precautions." Xim turned back to the chief of operations. "Get everyone working mister Jackson, we seem to be on a time line. Have Doctors Lopez and Ichijo start in the medical bay. And when Matrix arrives have him and his team start on setting up the newer had module. Mister Raschen's and Rosenbauer's people can play security and cargo master as you see fit. Have Mister Remey begin setting up some of the area scanning equipment that they brought along." (reply Jackson any on the away team) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Xega II Surface, COPS Lieutenant Tom Jackson - Day 3-1256) Xim had authorized the debarkation process and Mike Rosenbauer had opened the shuttle's hatch. Each passenger stepped out into a orange tinted surface of Xega III. Tom was last to exit and paused to look at the immediate area. It was warm - much like a few world's Jackson had visited prior to entering Star Fleet. A middle aged female walked up to Lt Xim and began to speak Jackson heard her introduce herself as Sarah. "Hello." She said as she approached. Her red hair was even redder under the strange lighting offered by the local sun. "I'm Sarah, Mission Medical Officer and Xenopaleobiologist and botanist." Xim proceeded to introduce himself, Jackson, Chance Raschen and Mike Rosenbauerauer. Tom smiled at the woman and said Hello". (reply: Sarah) Xim and Sarah talked a bit further. Sarah suggested they feel free to look about and select temporary storage areas inside their shielded area. "Why don't you and the rest of your team feel free to look around or pick out the temporary site for the material depot. You'll just need to make certain that you and all the equipment is inside the shield wall before nightfall. The terminator brings a very powerful windstorm that can be very disruptive and potentially dangerous" she added. Tom smiled to himself and thought ~She's reading my mind~ because Jackson had been just doing that very thing. Xim then turned to T.J. and issued orders to carry that project out. Xim turned back to the chief of operations. Have Mister Remey begin setting up some of the area scanning equipment that they brought along." "Understood Lt Xim" and headed to get the unloading process underway. Tom waved to get Dr's Ichijo and Lopez's attention. "Doctor's, Lt Xim has asked that you begin start your efforts in the Sick Bay module. Any questions?" Tom asked. (reply: Dr's Ichijo and Lopez) Jackson then turned to Ensign remey and instructed the man " Get the scanning systems up and running Mr Remey. Any questions?" Jackson asked the younger officer. (reply: Remey) Tom walked to Chance and asked him if he could spare a few folks to begin the unloading process. (reply: Chance) Tom pitched in with the unloading - awaiting Lt Matrix's arrival. (reply: Any on Surface) (posted by: Bill) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Xega II Surface, ACMO Ensign Sam Lopez- Day 3 - 1300) Sam came out of shuttle to see a red planet very little anything, but dirt and sand. There was a habitation module just over yonder and was the only technology on this lifeless planet .At that moment Lieutenant Jackson finished talking to a member of the archaeological team and waved him and his fellow doctor over. "Doctor's, Lt Xim has asked that you begin start your efforts in the Sick Bay module. Any questions?" Tom asked. Sam had no questions to ask."No sir none at all"Sam said as he watched Lt.Jackson go on to the next person.Sam then started for the sickbay module with his fellow Doctor close by. (Reply by none) (Posted by shawn) ------------------------- (Xega III, Site 19- Underground, Ab Orwak- Day 3- 1320) Slumbered. For time immortal he had slept, keeping count of the passage of time by watching the degradation of the atoms in a chip of fissionable material. For eons he had watched that chip of material as it slowly dissolved, changing from one element to the next until it became stable. For an untold millennia he had been alone, since the last of the other voices had grown silent around him. Death by boredom or insanity. Some perhaps committed suicide, or maybe the devices that maintained their Candara had failed. Still Ab was. He was not able to not be. He had always been. He had been so long that he could not remember his beginnings, nor could he contemplate the mystery of not being. Time was not a river as the old ones once stated. Instead time was a pool. Usually it was still, calm and quiet, with only a slight shift to indicate movement. Sometimes it was fast and brutal, as when a levy split. But time was not a river. The time frame that Ab occupied was. It had always been and it would continue to be as long as Ob could conceive of it as an idea. If he ever forgot to take notice of it's existence it would collapse and Ab would become nothing. He would un-be as it were, to exist in a state of unbeingness, that would be the opposite of being. Ab had focused upon his time frame for so long, holding on to the deepest memories that he could remember to give him a reference for the speed at which that frame must move through the universe. But as the ages passed, his memories began to fail him and the timeframe grew weaker and weaker forcing Ab Orwak to force his perception beyond the frame of time that sustained him to look for another reference that he could use to maintain the frame that was his being. He had made a discovery. A strange trio of beings, not radically different from his once physical form had entered into the chamber of the mind. They had brought with them lights, And Ab had been able to refortify his frame of existence by watching the speed at which the photons traveled from the point of their creation until they splashed across some distant surface. As he did this and as his understanding of his frame began to coalesce into a strong pattern, he grew stronger more certain of himself. And so he decided to make contact. With an effort of will, he reversed the flow of photons, and chose to alight his consciousness upon them. When he reached the aliens, he froze the photons in place, and was disturbed when the aliens collapsed. Their bodies perhaps too frail to share the time frame that Ab inhabited. But then one of them stirred and Ab moved forward, allowing his energy to mingle with that of the alien. Within moments Ab could feel again. He had sensations, sounds assaulting his ears, blood coursing through his veins and air being sucked into his lungs. He lived once again. He was beyond being. He was something else entirely. (reply none) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (Xega III, Site 19- Underground, Doctor Otto Von Toenkampf- Day 3- 1330) Otto was the first to regain consciousness. His head throbbed and his eyes burned as if he had stayed up all night studying some rare artifact of some sort. It took him a few minutes to gather his senses. The area wasn't much different, except now instead of being absolutely pitch black and pierced by only a few spotlights, the entire chamber seemed to be infused with a rich omniscient amber glow. The source of the light wasn't clear, and it bathed everything in it's rich hue to the point that there were no shadows to be seen anywhere. He turned over onto his side and levered himself up into a seated position. Svenik and Rebecca were laying where they had fallen, close to their equipment. Otto seemed to be roughly midway between them. The old man, took in a deep breath and noted with a strange sort of detached curiosity that several small motes of ambient light seemed to be drawn into to his body. Some of them touched his skin and he catalogued the fact that they were small and warm to the touch. He watched in wonder as the motes began to gather, swirling as if they were a miniature galaxy and that they had made him their center. They gathered, building up speed as they went, growing closer and closer to his body until they were everywhere, surrounding him caressing his skin and teasing themselves in tiny little electrical discharges into the very fiber of his being. Then in a moment they were gone, and once again the chamber was plunged into near darkness, pierced only by the sharp beams of the powerful spotlights that they had set up. Otto Toenkampf blinked, and when he reopened his eyes, they were not the color that he had been born with, instead they were a rich amber color, slightly luminescent. The irises flared for an instant before the color disappeared and Otto Toenkampf was pushed away from the control centers of his own mind and another being assumed complete control of his body.
