He was worried that this would draw attention and that was one thing they did not need!. Sanok wisely moved out of the restroom to act as a security guard. Tom kicked himself for not thinking of that himself. he was still waiting for instructions from Lt Cmdr Sullivan for what to do with the computer systems. Was he to wipe any reference to Starfleet or just copy the database? "Commander Sullivan, what is to be done with the computer system other than suimply bypassing security systems fro accessing the area?" Tom asked. (reply: Commander Sullivan) (posted by: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix - Khoda City - Third District Hotel Voltul - AFO - Lt Cmdr T'Larah Sullivan - 1159.5) "Commander Sullivan, what is to be done with the computer system other than simply bypassing security systems from accessing the area?" Tom asked. "That would depend on the time we have, Mister Jackson. I don't foresee us staying here for very long. At this time, attempt to access any files related to our mission. We need to know what they know. Deleting the files rampantly will alert them to our presence, they may increase their security. Instead, if you come across a file that is under current classification protocols, delete them and make it appear that the file deleted itself because of it's classification. Once we have a more stable forward operating base or actually have access to the ship itself, we can start concentrating on a more methodical approach." (Reply Lieutenant Jackson) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Khoda City, Irlix – Third District Hotel Voltul– COPS - LT Tom Jackson – 1219) Tom moved towards the exit in time to hear Chance speak to some Irlixan securioty officers begin to encircle T'Larah, Sanok and Chance. Sighing, Tom edged towards his friends. He readied himself for a brawl. T'Larah snatched the rifle out of the lead Irlixian's hands and smashed the butt of the rifle across his temple stunning him. She held on to the pistol grip of the rifle with her right hand and spun the stunned agent around with her left so his back was facing her. She wrapped her left arm around him and held him as a human shield as she fired three shots from the Irlixian phaser taking out the rest of the stacked team. As agents moved in Tom ducked a blow from a pudgy Irixan and plowed head first into the pudgy man causing him to fall and gasp fro breath. Sullivan keyed her broach communicator. "There is an exit behind me, fall back and start bounding back..." a shot from the right corner almost stuck her in the face, missing by only a few millimeters. The assailant was taken out by one of the security people on the bottom. Tom moved to the exit- he was glad to be out of the fray. Jackson saw T'Larah go down, as he was almost the last one he picked her out and she ordered "Someone bent over to pick T'Larah up, she was no longer coherent enough to recognize who it was. "Get us out of here....make us safe. she then passed out. Jackson carried her out and Exiting the facility, a roof top sniper opened up. Fortunately, the aim while close but not close enough to hit anyone. Tom dodged into a nearby doorway out of fire. He sat T'Larah on her feet. (reply: Any) (posted by: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Khoda City, Irlix – Back Alley– ACSO Louis Remey– 1221) As the medical team was treating the wounded Louis moved back from his impromptu observation post, staying here was giving him the willies. The Irlixian police would be combing the area before long and they weren't far enough away from the site of the battle to give them any real protection. Since the three Lt. Raschen had tabbed to find them lodging were getting ready to go he walked back to the man, security wasn't his forte but he had an idea he wanted to run by him. "Lieutenant I have been doing some scans of the area and there appears to be an empty two storey building forty yards ahead, I would suggest we make use of it to get some cover and use that as a meeting place for when the other two officers return, we are too exposed out here and if they jump us again we don't stand a chance. At least if we're inside we can give them a good fight." (Reply: Raschen) "It appears to be some sort of old warehouse possibly, the back room is big enough to hold us and there are entrances farther into the building in case we have to fall back. By the way..." He added. "... since they are using our stolen technology it wouldn't be too big a stretch to expect them to be scanning for us, at least if we are inside we won't stand out like a sore thumb." (Reply: Raschen) He nodded and walked over to the medical officer as Lt. Raschen gave the matter some thought. He walked up to the medic and waited for the him to treat the more seriously injured before catching his attention. "Doctor Lopez I've got a stitch in my side from a phaser burst, it doesn't appear to be bleeding very much but it's a da**** nuisance, could you give it a look see?" (Reply: Lopez) Louis unbuttoned his sable colored coat gingerly and pulled it aside to uncover his blue woolen shirt beneath and the wound on his left side. The coat and shirt had been burned through in that area and an angry red area the size of a dollar coin was exposed. The burst had burned through at least two layers of skin and the edges were dark but there was very little bleeding, it appeared the energy had at least partially cauterized the area but the longer it went the more it was hurting, having stiffened up significantly. "Just throw a patch on it and give me a painkiller and I should be good to go." He said. (Reply: Lopez) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix, Khoda City, Third District Alley, Ensign sg Sanok, 1230) Sanok moved cautiously down the alley and found the away team near where the alley reached the street. Several had been wounded and were receiving medical care, with Commander Sullivan being in the worst condition. He waited patiently until someone addressed him. "We need to come up with some kind of cover and a lookout system," said Raschen to Sanok. "What do you suggest?" Before answering, he glanced at Commander Sullivan and the rest of the wounded. "i believe the best cover for us is to return to the Rosenante. We have wounded that need immediate medical attention, including yourself. We can regroup, then easily beam back down to a much safer place." (reply Raschen) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix, Khoda City, Third District, Hotel Voltul, aCOPS, Ensign Smith, 1240*)   Robert hurried to catch up. The others were in the lobby and it would not be good if he was late.   =^=This is Sanok.  We have been discovered by security=^=   Robert skidded to a halt.   ~Well that’s bloody marvellous~   He heard raised voices,  the sounds of phaser shots followed by screasms and then silance.   ~Dam, Dam, Dam~   He knew that there was not way that he would get to the away team in time to help them at all. He needed to think quickly as he would attract attention standing in the corridor.   ~Okay go down guns blazing. No not Rambo. Stick with what I’m good at I might not be able to save the others now but I might be able to get them out of here~   He heard the sound of foot falls heading towards him as he glanced around he saw a door to the main stairwell of the hotel. With two steps he covered the distance and carefully closed the door.   ~Okay up or down. Humm~   A strange sound made him look over the railing and down the stair well. It took him a split second to realise what he was looking at. A fire had began to burn its way up the stair well, giving off durty black smoke which had cut off his way out.   ~Up it is then~   With that he turned and dashed up the stairs.   ~Come on, come on~   He paused and rested his hand on the wall as he came to another landing.   “Ow defiantly needing the P.T. now. No more Danish pastries for me that it fore sure. From now on its health all the way, well until I bakers any way.”   He gave a cough as the black smoke snaked after him.   “Well at least I still got my health. For now.”   He pushed him self forward as he finally reached the top floor. The roof door was an old looking door. The old lock snapped as Robert through him self at it. The door burst open as Robert landed hard of the flat roof.  He closed the door with his foot as he lay there looking around quickly, not wanting to be seen by other people who might be on other roofs. He rolled onto his belly and crawled to the edge of the roof and cautiously peered over. On the last building the end of the row was a large radio metal tower which spiked into the sky.   ~Ow that’s what I’m heading for~   The roof of the next building about a floor below him but had a small alleyway splitting the two building apart. ~If I can get to that building I might not become the human torch~   He moved back from the edge and crawled all the way back to the stairwell door which was starting to have black smoke seeping round the edges.   “Now or never.”   He pulled the straps of his bag tight against his back, got up and began to sprint across the roof as fast as he could. His foot hit the edge of the roof and he launched him self into the air. His hands wind milling as he tried to keep his balance.   (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - The Villa - SO - Ensign Mike Rosenbauer & CIV Ios Malinae - Day 7-1245) Mike and Ios has managed to get out of the Hotel almost immediately after the order had been given. Surmising that the main exits would be watched, Mike had managed to find an exit to the roof and had all but dragged Ios along behind him. They had made the roof, managed to dodge the snipers that were more focused on watching the street level entries and exits and make a small leap to a neighboring building where it was a simple matter to reach ground level unattended. Upon reaching the ground floor, Mike and Ios had watched as the ring of police men rushed towards the target building. Once they had passed Mike led the Irlixian woman out into the street and at an unhurried pace away from the Hotel Voltul. Now they were standing in front of a very nice private residence. The tall stone walls were capped by metal fence posts that were meant to dissuade would be trespassers. The building itself was incredibly beautiful, large and very reminiscent of the classical country chateaus of Europe on Earth. "Are you certain that this is safe?" he asked her again for about the third time in as many minutes "Yes, completely," she replied with a curt nod of the head. "As I've said, Revala and her father are away on a trip to the south and not expected back for at least a Month and a half. They dismiss all the servants while they're away and..." she paused and gave him a smile. "I have the security codes." Mike looked at her again, still a little uncertain about everything. "Trust me. It will be fine. Besides, where else can you go?" she asked him. She had a point. If they had managed to see her they'd be watching her own apartment waiting for a sign. Just as likely then that they'd also be watching all hospitals and other hotels. This was, despite his better judgment the only really safe place that they could go. "Alright." Mike finally stated with a nod. "We'll stay here, but we leave at the first sign of trouble." Ios nodded and answered, "Agreed." She entered the security code for the gate, which rolled open without any sound whatsoever. No Alarms, or Sirens sounded, but despite that mike wasn't entirely at ease. He led the way in through the gates, which closed behind them. The drive was long and slender, graveled with a sort of pinkish colored stone very similar to rose marble or perhaps field spar of some type. It was flanked on either side by a row of twelve foot trees which were very upright, like sentinels. Mike used the trees for cover as h approached the house and Ios followed along despite her protests. He reached a vantage point where he could easily see the front of the house. An incredible white stone staircase led up to the entry doors, which were flanked by a pair of fountains spitting crystal clear water from the façade and into meditation pools at either side of the steps. They approached as cautiously as possible, although the wide open expanse leading up to the house was not exactly full of cover. Ios walked directly up the stairs as if she owned the place, keyed in the security code at a panel near the door and then entered the building. Mike followed. It was opulent. The walls were tall, ending in vaulted ceilings that would have made the Luxembourg palace envious. Gold and silver filigree added to the design rather than detracted from it and all of this was offset in turn by the marble floors and plastered walls painted in a light pastel blue. Mike quickly motioned for Ios to stop. He then went through the premises to see if they were truly alone. They were. When he had returned, she had started a fire in the massive fireplace of the den and had poured them both a stiff drink from the owners personal stock of native alcohols. Mike nodded as he accepted the glass. He took a sip of the fiery red liquid, appreciated it's full robust flavor and subtle aroma and then placed his sampled glass on a nearby desk. He then activated his watch communicator. "Rosenbauer to away team." (reply any on away team) "I have located a safe place for us to regroup. Coordinates follow. Rosenbauer out." He closed the channel and picked up his drink. He sipped it again before saying, "They're on their way. Hopefully they'll be here soon." (reply Any on Away team) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - The Villa - ACEO - Lt. Steven Matrix - Day 7 - 1247) Nearly 30 minutes had passed since Matrix and the majority if the away team made their way into the alley. The roof top snipers were bad shots, but good enough to keep the away team occupied. The medics had helped ease the pain in his left shoulder and had stopped the bleeding. Matrix carried on giving cover and shooting back at the rooftop snipers. ~What I wouldn't give for an old fashioned cartridge projectile pistol.~ thought Matrix as he took aim at one of the security personnel shooting in his direction. The slap of the alien phaser blast on the wall next to him shook his nerve for a moment. The heat from the blast reminded him of the danger and challenge just to stay alive. His commbadge chirped and Matrix struggled to hear the transmission over the exchange of phaser fire. "Rosenbau.. to ..way team." Matrix crouched down for better cover and taped his commbadge. A barrage of phaser fire was exchanged between the two groups of teams. "Matrix to Resenbauer, we're pinned down...go ahead." replied Matrix. "I have located a safe place for us to regroup. Coordinates follow. Rosenbauer out." "LISTEN UP! Ensign Rosenbauer sending regroup coordinates. Let's rally get out of here!" shouted Matrix. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix, Khoda City, Third District Alley, Ensign sg Sanok, 1248) The position the away team had chosen for safety, didn't last long, as they had been spotted by several snipers. Ducking into a doorway as a blast struck the wall across from him, Sanok remained hidden. They had to make a decision immediately, as more police would be on their way now that they had been spotted. =^=Rosenbauer to away team.=^= "Matrix to Rosenbauer. We're pinned down. Go ahead." =^=I have located a safe place for us to regroup. Coordinates follow. Rosenbauer out.=^= Sanok transferred the comm signal to his tricorder and watched as the location came in. "Listen up! Ensign Rosenbauer sending regroup coordinates. Let's rally get out of here!" shouted Matrix. Sanok memorized the regroup location and placed his tricorder back into his pocket. With a firm grip on his phaser, he waited for the order to move, wondering how many more of the away team would be wounded once they exposed themselves to sniper fire. (reply any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - Outside the Hotel - COPS - Lt Tom Jackson - Day 7-1252) Tom and the others were crouching in the alley way out side the hotel. Roof top snipers were firing down on them - they were taking fire and had a few injuries. Their comm badges crackled into live with a message from Mike Rosenbauer "Rosenbauer to away team." The firing was intense and made Mike's transmission hard to hear. Rosenbauer sent "I have located a safe place for us to regroup. Coordinates follow.Rosenbauer out." He closed the channel. Steve Matrix shouted "LISTEN UP! Ensign Rosenbauer sending regroup coordinates. Let's rally get out of here!" atrix shouted above the din of battle. "Thanks Steve" Jackson shouted back. "I suggest we break up into smaller teams and get the H*** out of here now" he shouted in return. (reply: Any present) "I'll go last and provide a rear guard" Tom added. (reply: any) Time was running out - they all knew that they had to get out of there and do it quickly. (reply: any) (posted by: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix, Khoda City, Third District Alley, Ensign sg Sanok,1253) Smoke. Sanok smelled smoke. It wasn't from the scorched bricks of the backs of buildings in the alley caused by the sniper fire. It was something stronger than that, something his experience told him meant something was very wrong. A slight breeze was blowing from the direction from which Sanok and the away team had come, so he took a quick peek from the doorway where he was hiding. He saw an ugly, billowing cloud coming from the hotel, as though some ethereal monster was rising from the abyss. It was possible, though highly unlikely, that a fire had started from the phaser fight, though phasers were designed so as to not easily cause such a fire. Even if a fire had started that way, it was extremely unlikely it would have spread so quickly. No, the logical conclusion was that it had been set intentionally. If that was the case, it was a clear indication of how serious, and how dangerous, the Irlixian police were. Sanok turned his attention back to the away team. Things were taking far too long. Since being spotted again by snipers, it was only a matter of time before more troops would arrive and the team would be trapped in the alley. As it was, in order to escape to the new rally point, they would need to run out of the alley into an open street in broad daylight, avoid the snipers and police, as well as any civilians in the area, evade capture, find the new hideout, and arrive there undetected. All this while assisting several wounded members of the team, one of whom was seriously wounded and in need of medical care from the ship. It was a suicide mission. They should just beam back to the Rosenante and regroup. "I'll go last and provide a rear guard!" said Jackson. It seemed everyone was fixed on the suicide mission. "With all due respect, Lieutenant," said Sanok, "I am security and you are operations. I should be the one to cover our retreat." (reply Jackson, any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - Outside the Hotel - COPS - Lt Tom Jackson - Day 7-1300) The tactical situation was deteriorating rapidly. Lt Cmdr Sullivan was still out. Chance Raschen was stunned and temporarily out of the loop. Tom jackson was next in the line of succession. He felt the weight of the world descend on his shoulders. Sighing, he quickly reviewed his options. He had offered to be tail end charlie and cover the withdrawal. Ensign Sanok raised a question that he, Sanok, should remain behind as he was Security. Ordinarily the Ensign would have been correct. Their situation was certainly not ordinary. Tom responded to Sanok " Yes Ensign normally you are correct. But our situation is critical and I need you to take charge of the wounded and others. You are best qualified for that" Jackson said as he paused to allowed the Security officer to reply. (reply: Sanok) "So here is what I want done. You Sanok will head up the party carrying the wounded. we will need to go in small groups while the the remainder provide covering fire" Tom again paused and allow a few seconds for comments. (reply: any) "Lt Matrix, I need you to take charge of the rest of the group and get them to the safe house. Be quick cause time is running out my friend" jackson added. (reply: Matrix) "O.k., Sanok, your group will head out first. Keep to the doorways and overhangs as much as possible. Lt Martix I need you to follow shortly after the Ensign's group and provide covering fire. I will bring up the rear. Remember, it is imperative you get your people to the safe house. I will pick up any stragglers as I come through" jackson added. The crew was silent. It was a long shot at best but better to go down fighting Tom figured. (reply: any) (posted by Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - Outside the Hotel - aCMO- Ens Kimiko Ichijo- Day 7-1301*) It all seemed to happen in a flash. One moment the away party was have a nice, albeit strange, conversation in a lavatory, and the next: explosions, shrieking and flying debris. Kimiko was carried with the party towards the back door. Not combat trained and still having difficulty pinpointing who was friend, foe, or hapless bystander, the CMO decided to leave her phaser were it was. A roaming stun grenade exploded near her and it felt like someone had used her head as a bell clapper. The doctor was still having problems tracking when the group stopped to rest in the alleyway. Kimiko saw that Lopez was attending to the first officer and started to render assistance to ensign Remey. she overheard a conversation between the ensign and lieutenant. . "I have a question" Kimiko stated while the knitter was doing its job. "Is it a good idea to spilt up, while we don't know exactly what fingered our entire party" The doctor gestured with her free hand. "I mean, while it is possible that the traced the signal, they should not have known the size of the party with out further investigation." Kimiko checked on the progress "If mannerisms, pheromones, ultra-pitch epiglottal speech pattern, or half-a-dozen different traits that mark us as outsiders; then it would seem to me that splitting up would cut down on the support that we could render each other and allow them" Kimiko gestured to the end of the ally with her free hand. "to defeat us in detail" (Reply Jackson, Sanok any) Kimiko nodded and turned back to Remey "That should hold until we get somewhere less... conspicuous, it appears that the injury to your side, has not compromised any important systems, but I would rather get the site properly attended to before I close it up." (Reply Remey) Kimiko sprayed an antiseptic on the wound and placed a loose gauze on it. (Reply Remey, Jackson, any) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - Outside the Hotel - ACEO - Lt Steven Matrix - Day 7-1302) Matrix, Jackson, Sanok and the rest of the away team had to get moving. There was little doubt that the Irlixian security forces were going to keep pursuing the away team until they were captured or killed. Jackson was taking control of the situation to the relief of Matrix. Matrix was in pain so he wasn't seeing things clearly enough. His focus was to stay alive, but his tactical abilities were dulled by the intense pain in his left shoulder. Lieutenant Jackson was issuing orders to the team. "Lt Matrix, I need you to take charge of the rest of the group and get them to the safe house. Be quick cause time is running out my friend" jackson added. Matrix caught his breath. "Agreed Tom. They are not letting up and I don't suspect they are going to let us walk away from here. I've not been able to raise the Rosenante which means they must be out of communicator range or we're being jammed." said Matrix. Matrix grimaced as he adjusted his position next to the wall. The bleeding had started again. Matrix pulled the left collar back slightly and blotted the wound with the now soaked field bandage. He pulled the collar back over the wound and pressed down. He would feel the blood run down his chest. There wasn't time to apply further aid, they had to get out of the area. "Tom, I think we should head west...we have the best cover from what I can tell...lots of corridors, containers and hiding places. Unfortunately we have plenty of sunlight so we can't move in the cover of darkness. Do you agree or do you have another idea? I'm open to suggestions." (Reply Jackson, any on the away team) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - Alleyway- ACSO LOuis Remey - Day 7-1303) Louis' words were like a prophetic utterance but then again you didn't have to be a soothsayer to know the local constabulary was going to be riding the heels of the group like hounds upon the hunt. The decision of Raschen then to remain where they were, open and inviting an attack with not only their sides but above open to the same was dizzying to him. Who in their right minds would remain in the open? It violated every tactical protocol in the book and Louis had barely grazed the surface of that particular missive. Then again there might have been other factors at work, Raschen was wounded after all but if necessary someone else could have carried the commander to safety. At any rate what was done was done, they were pinned down by sniper fire and waiting for the hammer and anvil to catch them in the middle. Dr. Lopez had just noticed Louis and was moving to treat him behind a safe corner of the wall out of the line of phaser fire that was scorching the area when Lt. Jackson stepped in and took over. His bellowed orders cut through the sound of the energy blasts and return fire. Then Sanok decided he contest those orders, this was turning into one hell of a chaotic situation. Louis heard Jackson's retort as well. " Yes Ensign normally you are correct. But our situation is critical and I need you to take charge of the wounded and others. You are best qualified for that" (reply: Sanok) "So here is what I want done. You Sanok will head up the party carrying the wounded. we will need to go in small groups while the the remainder provide covering fire" The CMO took that opportunity to weigh in with her own opinions which were drowned out by the whine of incoming fire, at least most of it. "... is possible that they traced the signal, they should not have known the size of the party with out further investigation." Kimiko checked on the progress "If mannerisms, pheromones, ultra-pitch epiglottal speech pattern, or half-a-dozen different traits that mark us as outsiders; then it would seem to me that splitting up would cut down on the support that we could render each other and allow them to defeat us in detail" Louis shouted out a rejoinder. "Who the heck cares how they found us? Right now we had best be making tracks instead of discussing the situation. Lieutenant Jackson is right, we need to get the hell out and someone needs to be in charge of making sure the seriously wounded are evaqued. I've only got a little boo boo, I can help either way and since we don't need leadership by committee I volunteer to help provide covering fire as soon as I get patched up." The doctor heard that and speedily took over his treatment. "That should hold until we get somewhere less... conspicuous, it appears that the injury to your side, has not compromised any important systems, but I would rather get the site properly attended to before I close it up." "You're the boss doc, just make it quick." He snapped while giving her a nod to let her know he wasn't being nasty though his nerves were getting a little frazzled by the confusion in the group. She sprayed a compound on the wound which immediately cooled it down, taking away some of the stiffness then slapped a gauze on the area. "Thanks doc I owe you one." He said as she finished. "I'm good to go." He raised his voice so that he could be heard by everyone. "Now unless anyone has any objections I suggest we hurry the heck up. Lieutenant Jackson I'm with you unless you order otherwise. Come on everybody let's get busy!" (Reply: Kimiko, Jackson, any) Taking out his tricorder he began scanning the area again. "I read eight snipers with a dozen more on foot headed our way from the south, there is another alley that bisects this one twenty yards to the northwest, if you take it you can get around them while we hold them off." He looked around. "Well? What is everybody waiting for? The Lieutenant has ordered an evacuation so unless someone wants to be brought up on charges I would suggest you get moving!" (Reply: All) As the evacuation party began moving out he pulled out his phaser and began providing saturation cover fire, his discharges too hastily aimed to hit anything but getting close enough to make the enemy duck their heads long enough for the rest of the group to sprint to cover farther down the alley with the wounded before ducking down the escape route. They would have to hurry if Jackson, himself and the rest of the rearguard were going to have any hope of getting out of here before they were overwhelmed. (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - Outside the Hotel - COPS - Lt Tom, Jackson- Day 7- 1304) Reluctantly Tom had issued orders. He got some opush back from Dr Ichijo who mentioned the advisability of splitting up. Tom chewed on the for a second and tried to reply calmly. "Your point is noted Dr Ichijo, but I have to get us to the safe house. I believe this is the best way to do that. I will need you and Dr Lopez to place yourselves in different groups. This is if one group gets taken out, we still have a medical care. A large group would attract more attention that a few smaller groups" Ton said in a tone that indicated he had made his mind up. (reply: Dr Ichijo) "You and Dr Lopez figure who goes with which group but do it fast please" Tom added a bit impatiently. (reply: Kimiko) Louis Remy had a somewhat minor wound spoke up "Who the heck cares how they found us? Right now we had best be making tracks instead of discussing the situation. Lieutenant Jackson is right, we need to get the hell out and someone needs to be in charge of making sure the seriously wounded are evaqued. I've only got a little boo boo, I can help either way and since we don't need leadership by committee I volunteer to help provide covering fire as soon as I get patched up." "Ok, Remey you are with me" Tom replied gratful for the man's support. Tom admired Remy's Pattonesque style. He made a note to thnak him properly if and when they got out of this. Tom got everyone's attention "Ok, the wounded will leave first - any walking wounded should serve as flank guards - we'll give you a base of fire. Hopefully, they'll keep their heads down long enough to get away. Sixty seconds later the last group will move out. Remy and I will suppress as much of the fire as we can - run like H***" Tom said with a smile. (reply: any present) After the questions had been addressed Tom ordered "First group move out in two minutes" and returned to providing suppressive fire. (reply: Any) (POSTED BY: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix, Khoda City, Third District Alley, Ensign sg Sanok, 1305) Jackson said, "Yes, Ensign, normally you are correct, but our situation is critical and I need you to take charge of the wounded and others. You are best qualified for that." Sanok took a moment to digest this. How was he the best qualified to take care of the wounded? His specialty was needed for combat. Anyone not trained for that could care for the wounded. This decision was illogical. Thinking that he should say something, he decided to hear the rest of the plan first. "Yes, sir." "So here is what I want done," said Jackson. "You, Sanok, will head up the party carrying the wounded. We will need to go in small groups, while the the remainder provide covering fire." Before Sanok could respond, Doctor Ichijo questioned the wisdom of splitting into smaller groups. This led to a small debate from some of the others, which culminated with the aCSO, Louis Remey, exclaiming that everyone should basically be quiet and do what Lieutenant Jackson said. Even if the plan was the wrong thing to do. "Okay. The wounded will leave first," said Jackson. "Any walking wounded should serve as flank guards; we'll give you a base of fire. Hopefully, they'll keep their heads down long enough to get away. Sixty seconds later, the last group will move out. Remey and I will suppress as much of the fire as we can. Run like hell." ~How are we supposed to do that with wounded, two of whom are barely conscious?~ thought Sanok. This plan was not the correct thing to do, and he had to say something about it. He approached Jackson and spoke so only he could hear what Sanok was saying. "Sir, I say this with respect, but this plan is not what should be done. Sending the wounded, the slowest group and the most easily struck by enemy fire, as the first group out, is asking for more casualties. The best way to cross an open field of fire without any smoke for cover, is to leapfrog. One, two at the most, advance, while the rest of the team provides covering fire. Once they have established a covered position, there will be more people rendering covering fire, and from different locations, which will give the slower-moving wounded a better chance to get through." Sanok did not expect a change in the plan, but he was bound by duty and honor to say something. Of course, he would carry out the orders given, but giving the team the best chance to survive this difficult situation, was the logical, and the right thing to do. He ran across the roof top picking up speed. The next roof was about chest height which he vaulted on to.   ~Ow yes this is so cool. I can do this~   As he reached the end of the roof he saw that the last roof which held the radio mast was lower then the one that he was on. He dropped on to the next roof and quickly hurried over to the radio tower. At its base there was a large metal box which Robert quickly pulled the panel off.   ~Okay what do we have here~   As he scanned the boxes contents he slid his back off the back and opened to up. He took out his PADD, the camera and the replicator case. He opened the case and placed the PADD down flat inside the bottom of the case and turned it on. The screen flashed into life and an image of keyboard appeared. The inside lid of the case became a screen as the data from the PADD was projected into it. He then placed his camera into the metal box and heard a soft ‘click’ as it interfaced with the radio tower. It would now transmit the data to his ‘computer’.   “Okay lets see if my plan will work or get flushed down the toilet.” He muttered to him self as he began.   He had rightly assumed that this was the substation transmitting tower for the local area. All signals were picked up and retransmitted buy this substation.   ~Okay now I need the police frequency~   He began using the search algorithms that were in the computer’s database which he had obtained from the Rosenante.   ~Come on Baby you can do it.  Find the police channels I need to here what it going on~   Time seamed to slow to a crawl as he watched the computer cycle through the different search algorithms. Then suddenly the icon turned from red to green.   ~Ow yes thank you Rose. You beauty~   He leaned forward as an over head image of the local area came up on the display. Suddenly more icons appeared as red flashing markers across the map.   ~Okay so I’m in the police tactical net. The red dots much be the comm system of the active teams~   =^= This is sniper team two, lost visual on target group=^=   =^= Sniper team four, lost visual but target group entered building two hundred meters to my north=^=   =^= This is control. All teams more to surround target building ASAP=^=   Robert watched in horror as the icons began to move.   “Come on you need to think quickly.”   ~I can’t stop them but I might just…~   He tapped his comm badge.   “Smith to Jackson.”   (Reply Jackson)   “Long story boss. Sufficient to say that I have hacked into the police tactical net. They are approaching you from three sides. There is a way out to your south across the open area and into a warren of alleyways. I can cause a distraction to give you some cover but I will not be able to pull them all away. I’ll be ready in 30 seconds.”   (Reply Jackson)   Robert’s fingers had been dancing across the keyboard as he had been talking to Jackson. He entered the command key on the console and he began.   ~I hope this works as I only have control for about two minutes at most~   He opened the comm system to all the tactical teams.   “This is police officer Tunchas of the Khoda City district police. I have an officer down, I replete an officer down. I saw a group of men and woman charge out of a building. They shot my partner and are escaping across to sector 23.”   Robert had picked sector 23 as it was in the other direction to where the away team needed to go and was but also it was feasible for the team to have reached at area.   He quickly entered another command and spoke again.   =^= This is control. The target group and the target building are a decoy. All teams more to sector 23 ASAP=^=   As soon as he sent the false command he froze the com net so that the real control could not countermand his order.   ~Come on change position. Come on~   He watched as the teams began to move.   ~Faster faster come on~   He watched as the timer rapidly spooled down. As he tapped his comm badge again.   “Smith to Jackson.”   (Reply Jackson)   ~Now or never. Running out of time~   “Boss you have about a minute and 10 until they regain command of the command net. There are only two sniper teams in your path. One is on a build to your right about a third along and the other is across from you. Sorry I can not be more specific.”   (Reply Jackson)   (Reply Jackson, any) (Posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Irlix- Khoda City- Second District - The Villa - CIV Ios Malinae - Day 7- 1500) "I suspect that you have a number of questions that need to be answered." Ios finally said, "so let me start by giving you some information and then I'll try my best to answer any questions you may still have afterwards." "About 30 years ago now, an alien starship, which we have since learned is named the Medea, crashed in this plain, where the city was built. "The ship came down mostly intact, with only a few significant pieces missing from her hull and structures. At that time this was whole area known as the Gab Union, and for the most part there wasn't the sort of racial prejudice that we see today." "The government moved quickly, securing the crash site with military troops and recovering the bodies of those aliens that had been aboard that ship. My mother was one of the most prominent geneticists at the time, her area of expertise was extremophiles and theoretical Exobiology." "When bodies were recovered she was rushed to join the project and began working on the bodies, trying to identify their physiology and their origins. They had already died you understand, so it was more like performing an autopsy than it was dissection." "Anyway, the other governments of the world all wanted to lay claim to the alien technology, but the Gab union decided that it was against their best interests to allow the technology out. The result of that decision was the beginning of the Technology Wars." "For almost a year, the other powers all attacked us. They bombed our cities, invaded our lands and pushed us towards the brink of defeat. But then that all changed." "No one knows where he came from or who he was, but Khoda Rhone just appeared one day. He seemed to have an innate understanding of the alien technology, and quickly proved that he had a mind unlike any other on the planet." "His ability to decipher the technology that had been scrounged from the wreckage of the Medea, proved to be the turning point in the war. He showed us how to build defense shields to protect our cities after dissecting the alien technology. Then came the medical technology to treat our injured military and civilian soldiers, and then came the phased weapons and the computer PADDs." "Against this technology the other military powers didn't stand a chance. They started losing the war, and eventually turned to infighting. Khoda Rhone himself forced them to the peace table. He made them agree to end the open hostilities and in return he gave them defense shielded technology, so that they could protect their cities from any potential Gab Union threats of force." "A few years passed and Khoda Rhone became even more popular. His introduction of the replication factories helped us rebuild our nation quicker than the others. Our economy stabilized and our research and development in science, engineering and materials technology expanded immensely." "He brought jobs and unified the Union into a proud and strong nation. For his efforts he was elected the leader of the Union for life. We renamed our nation after him, that why we are called the Rhone Union. He designed and we built Khoda City, on the very same spot that the crash happened." "Once he came into power, he revealed his secret of his knowledge to us. He had been captured by aliens, some from the ship that had hidden among us before the crash claimed their ship. He had managed to work out their technology and had brought it forward for the benefit of his people." "The aliens tried to kill him, later that week, and the threat that they posed was a valid one. He had them captured and transferred to the Seliya Facility for study. One of them, a doctor named Helen, befriended my mother, Sola. She had some sort of recurring sickness and when she had a relapse, my mother was infected and nearly died. That was why she was removed from the facility, once they had determined that the disease had become dormant." "The facility was originally built into the cliffs of mount Seliya because of the rare material Magnesite which runs through the mountain in thick prominent veins. They cut the entire facility from the living stone with phased energy drills, and then moved the wreckage of the Medea there. later they added the labs and the data archives, then eventually the development areas." "When the anti-Mol sentiments began I was demoted down to a clerk's position. I was once the master of the Archives there. They kept me on because of my mother's contributions during the war." "I promise you that there is no other place that the captured starship would be taken. It is the most secure facility on the entire planet. Your ship and your crew are there, I am certain of it." She paused and then took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "Okay, now I will try to answer your questions."
