The Captain's Cotillion - Compile 5 ========================= Mission: The Captain's Cotillion Day: 1 Stardate: 2414.04.10 ========================= (USS Rosenante - Sanok's Quarters - Lt. Sanok - Day 1 - 2050) (USS Rosenante - Sanok's Quarters - 2O-CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma- Day 1 - 2052) (USS Rosenante, Sanok's Quarters, Lt. Sanok, Day 1, 2054) ========================= (USS Rosenante - Sanok's Quarters - Lt. Sanok - Day 1 - 2050) Sanok had heard of the Human bachelor party, but never really studied everything about it. The one thing that he found fascinating, a point Ben mentioned, was the groom looking at it as one last chance for freedom. If the groom looked at marriage as a form of slavery, why was he so eager to marry? After all, Ben and Marah were already cohabitating, something that was once considered to be morally wrong, and still was in a large number of Federation cultures, his own being one of them. In effect, they were already living as a married couple, and Ben did not view that as losing any of his freedom. The logic in it all escaped him. "I will plan the bachelor party as soon as we know the date of the wedding," said Sanok. "Is it going to be a Bajoran service?" (reply Soma) (posted by Bob B.) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sanok's Quarters - 2O-CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma- Day 1 - 2052) "I will plan the bachelor party as soon as we know the date of the wedding," said Sanok. "Is it going to be a Bajoran service?" Ben and Marah had discussed various services, pros and cons of each, though the day belonged to the bride and the groom was just along for the ride Marah didn't fell it was fair to have a full Bajoran service when Ben was human. Ben also didn't think it was fair if they went with a traditional human ceremony. "We dicussed that and decided on a simple service incorporating aspects of both our cultures." Ben replied. "We'll offer thanks to the prophets and to god, the bridal party will be smaller then in a Bajoran wedding." Ben almost laughed. "After spending so much time on Axtis III she's gotten used to things being simple." He said. "Which will make planning a lot easier." Speaking of Axtis reminded him of Klagth, he wondered what happened to him after they escaped. Did Turrell have him killed or tortured and tossed into a cage. Maybe one day he'd get to find out, he hoped Klagth was alive. The Klingon had risked a lot to help them pull Marah off Aldavye, he didn't say anything about it but he had a history with Turrell. Had they known Ben would have insisted that Klagth remain on Axtis while he and Sanok went after Marah. "It's too bad about Klagth." Ben said. "I'm sure Marah would have wanted him to attend." (reply Sanok) (posted by Milo Young) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sanok's Quarters, Lt. Sanok, Day 1, 2054) Ben said, "After spending so much time on Axtis III, she's gotten used to things being simple, which will make planning a lot easier." After saying this, Ben got a faraway look in his eyes. Sanok also felt a stab inside him. Doing a quick, deep-breathing technique, he pushed that feeling away. "It's too bad about Klagth," said Ben. "I'm sure Marah would have wanted him to attend." Sanok remembered when they lost Klagth while rescuing Marah on Aldavye. Ben and Marah had beamed out and were safe on Klagth's ship, so they weren't there to see Klagth's end. The old Klingon had sacrificed himself so the rest of the team could escape, but there was a part of Sanok that felt responsible. He should have been able to do more to get all of them out. He had never told Ben or Marah exactly what happened. "Klagth's end was honorable," said Sanok. "His spirit will be there." Sanok wasn't sure about such things. His people generally did not believe in deities, but there was so much in the universe that was not known, how could such an absolute declaration be made? To him, it was perfectly logical that there could be a Supreme Deity out there somewhere, and not just wannabes like the Q Continuum. In any case, telling Ben that Klagth's spirit would be at the wedding, was a comforting and encouraging thing to say. He had learned a long time ago, such things could help people deal with painful losses. Raschen had accompanied him to the ready room as Salid had requested, specifically because Ahmed wanted to know what a Marine Light Bird was doing on his ship in the first place. Over the last year there had been too many things taking place in the Federation for Ahmed to keep up with. Admiralty seemed almost Orwellian in some regards and that caused Ahmed to be a little more cautious whenever people he wasn't clear on their need to be aboard his ship was concerned. he had hoped that the Rosenante being assigned to a 5-year tour of a uncharted sector of space would be the catalyst to take them out of the limelight. But apparently someone at command was keeping their eyes firmly planted upon the Rosenante and her crew. "Come in Colonel. Please have a seat. Feel free to help yourself to the replicator if you'd like." He said, gesturing to the replicator as he locked his display console and folded it down into the desk top. "Thanks for having me captain. I wish we were meeting under other circumstances." he replied, a tone of regret creeping into his voice. "And what circumstances are we meeting under exactly colonel?" Ahmed asked as the man settled into the chair across from him?" Nayeli - 1319, 1324) ========================= (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room 1, Lt. Sanok, Day 4, 1147) Sanok and PO Nelson were waiting for the arrival of the JAG officer. The visit had not been scheduled, and was unexpected. Sanok disliked the unscheduled and the unexpected, but had learned to deal with it a long time ago. Such was the way of beings ruled by their emotions. He wondered what had occurred that caused Starfleet to send them a JAG officer. Nothing had happened on board, at least to his knowledge, that warranted such a visit. Of course, Captain Salid had kept Lily from him, so perhaps there was something else Salid was withholding as well. If that was the case, Sanok was disliking this visit even more. The JAG officer, a Lieutenant Nayeli, materialized on the transporter pad. "What, no cake?" she said with a smile. "If I had known you were coming," said Sanok, "I'd have baked one." Nelson tried very hard to stifle a chuckle. Sanok carefully watched Nayeli's facial expression. She seemed to not care about what he had just said, but there may have been a hint of something else. She flipped a PADD at him. "I have to report in for my assignment," said Nayeli. "Take my to your leader!" "Captain Salid is not available at the moment," said Sanok. "I am to escort you to your quarters. When the captain is ready, I will come for you." NRPG: I'm not sure what flipping the PADD at Sanok means. Did she toss it to him? (reply Nayeli) (posted by Bob B.) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room 1 - JAG Lt. Nayeli - 1149) "Captain Salid is not available at the moment," said Sanok. "I am to escort you to your quarters. When the captain is ready, I will come for you." NRPG: Nayeli can be flippant, but she wouldn't throw something at a security officer. She knows a bit better than that. More that she snapped her wrist while holding the padd. RPG: "Very well, and who might you be then?" Nayeli was content to play along, the reception and the caution meant, almost for certain, the orders hadn't gotten past the Captain and maybe the first officer yet, or perhaps there was something being covered up. If there was cover-up happening though, it wouldn't take that long to root out. (reply Sanok) "Lead on, Sanok." Nayeli quiped, with half a smile. She'd put her free time on earth to good use when she'd been stationed there - plenty of plays and reading and other such cultural things. (reply Sanok, Nelson, any) (posted by Lori) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room 1, Lt. Sanok, Day 4, 1151) Nayeli said, "Very well, and who might you be then?" "I am Lieutenant Sanok, Chief of Security." "Lead on, Sanok." Sanok excused Nelson and led the JAG officer out of sickbay, to a turbolift, and to the deck for guest officers. He did all of this without saying anything. He really had nothing to say, which was typical for a Vulcan. He was also suspicious about her being there, so the sooner he could get her into some quarters, the sooner he could try to learn why she was there. NRPG: Lori, I just wanted to let you know, that the reason Sanok is giving Nayeli the stall, is because Daniel is on vacation. I don't have anything planned for the story. (reply Nayeli, any) (posted by Bob B.) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Turbolift and corridor - JAG Lt. Nayeli - 1153) The Vulcan had been silent as he'd led her through the ship. But Nayeli took the time to watch the scenery. To the un-practiced eye ships of the line all looked the same, but to one who had been on as many ships as she had, they all had a character. She looked at each face as they passed, some busy, some relaxed. She smiled at each and got a variety of responses. Those who recognised the white duty uniform of Intel and the JAG gave her looks that ranged from terse acknowledgement to downright suspicion. There was the occasion person who was in civilian clothing and these more often returned her smile. They walked down the hall and Sanok stopped outside guest quarters. ~You think I'm only here for a short time, my Vulcan friend. We shall soon see.~ "Thank you Mister Sanok. Might I ask a favour?" Nayeli kept her tone light, she knew that Vulcan's didn't show emotions, but she was well aware of the fact that they had to know how to read them - for the most part. (reply Sanok) "If you would please give the runabout clearance to dock. I promised the pilot a chance to stretch his legs." Nayeli had half a thought that sh could be sent on her way - if Captain Salid chose to dismiss her, but that would not go down well with HQ. (reply Sanok, any) (posted by Lori) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Guest Quarters, Lt. Sanok, Day 4, 1156) "Thank you, Mister Sanok," said Nayeli. "Might I ask a favor?" "Yes," said Sanok in a deadpan tone. He had observed Nayeli as she was observing the ship and crew. He could tell just by this, that she was very efficient at what she did. Sanok had his suspicions on why she was there. A JAG officer showing up right after they had completed a mission where the Prime Directive was such a major concern, could not be a coincidence. He had contacts he could call to confirm this, and as soon as he was free from her, he would do just that. "If you would please give the runabout clearance to dock, I promised the pilot a chance to stretch his legs." It was probably Sanok being overly-suspicious, but he wondered if the pilot was undercover with JAG. "I will see to it." Sanok tapped the access panel outside the temporary quarters. "You may enter a passcode. Is there anything else you require?" (reply Nayeli iyw) (posted by Bob B.) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Ready Room- CO Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 4 -1310) Ahmed had been on the commlink with Command to discuss a new intelligence operational report that indicated that Cardassians were working more readily in the sector. While this wasn't a tactical threat at least not openly, there was a real concern that an encounter in the sector could easily escalate into a shooting conflict. To make matters worse Star Fleet intelligence had reports that indicated that members of the order were involved, although details and specifics were not forthcoming. "Understood Admiral." Ahmed concluded the communication, "Rosenante out." Ahmed sighed as the channel closed and returned to his normal display. A message from Sanok indicated that a JAG officer had arrived aboard to conduct a review concerning their most recent mission. He had literally just been informed that she was being transferred aboard for a while. that meant that she had been dispatched as soon as the after action report had been submitted. While Ahmed understood the need for JAG officers, he never really liked it when they were on his ship. He'd been involved with them more than once in his past. He'd always done the right thing, even when the situation wasn't always clear cut. He realized that he'd been fortunate so far and every visit by JAG seemed to increase the chance that someone wouldn't make the same determination that he had made during the heat of the operation. Ahmed gave a sigh, locked and closed his display console and tapped his commbadge. "Salid to Sanok," he intoned. (reply Sanok) "Lieutenant, please escort Lieutenant Nayeli to my ready room. I am ready to meet with her now." (reply Sanok) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Main Security Office, Sanok's Office, Day 4, 1315, 1320) Through his contacts, Sanok had been able to learn that the JAG officer, Lieutenant Nayeli, was on board the Rosenante to review the actions taken by Captain Salid and the away team, on their mission to Asrai Prime. He had sent a message to the captain, , informing him of her arrival and purpose. Sanok understood that such reviews were necessary, but he never liked it when high-ranking officers that never served on starships, were allowed to judge those that did. Even officers that had starship experience, often had a different way of looking at things, now that they were sitting behind a desk, and not in a command chair. The Prime Directive could be open to so many interpretations, who could say how their actions would be judged. Sanok was certain little good would come of this. =^=Salid to Sanok.=^= "Sanok here, Captain." =^=Lieutenant, please escort Lieutenant Nayeli to my ready room. I am ready to meet with her now.=^= "Aye, sir." (USS Rosenante, Temporary Crew Quarters, Day 4, 1320) Sanok stood outside the room assigned to Nayeli, waiting for her to answer. When the door slid open, he addressed her, his hands folded behind his back. "Captain Salid will see you now." (reply Nayeli) (posted by Bob B.) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Temporary Crew Quarters - Lt. Nayeli - 1319) After Sanok had left Nayeli had taken the liberty of a quick shower and refreshments from the replicator. No sense in being uncomfortable while she waited. The door chimed and she looked up from the work she had pulled out in the mean time. She went to the door and let it slide aside. Sanok had returned. "Captain Salid will see you now." "Very good, please, lead on." Nayeli never enjoyed being the hard-nose, so she stayed away from it - though she had that ability to 'put the screws' to people when she needed to. (reply Sanok) (USS Rosenante, Bridge - Lt. Nayeli - 1324) She stood outside the Captain's Ready Room and hit the chime with Sanok standing over her shoulder. The control officer interrupted, "Commander, Miss Laren's effects will be transported to her quarters momentarily. She's been assigned to deck 9, room 113." Matrix nodded, "Thank you Lieutenant." The two stepped out of the shuttle bay and into the nearest turbo lift, "Let me see you to your quarters." said Matrix. The turbo lift doors closed and the two face each other. "Its been…you look…" they laughed. "You first." said Matrix. "Its been too long. I couldn't believe the news when I heard…I thought you were killed back on that planet. The Paladin was a total lost and I tried for weeks to find any information about you, but through the chaos I guess things got miss handled." said Alura. "I know…we weren't given a lot of time. Star Fleet wanted everyone out of there rather quickly. I made inquiries through sector generals office, Star Fleet, personal contacts…anything I could think of. Even called in a few favors. The last I heard you were presumed dead." said Matrix. "So…where do we go from here?" said Alura. Matrix smiled, "To your quarters of course." (Reply non) (Posted by Steve) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck 9 Room 113 - Day 5 - 1613) Matrix and Alura had spent nearly and hour simply talking and getting reacquainted and Matrix had to get back to engineering. He was already late for a meeting with his department staff, but they all likely knew of his special visitor. Long range shuttles are not very common and rumors circulated the ship as fast as the Ferengi flu. "I've got to get back to engineering. I'm sorry…" said Matrix. "Don't be…I know you're busy. However, I have dibs on your time while you're off duty mister. Besides, I need to unpack. I'm going to be here a while." Alura said with a smile. Matrix smiled back, "There is a ball tonight we must attend. Did you bring a dress?" asked Matrix. "I did, special made for this occasion. You only mentioned it a dozen times in your message." said Alura. Matrix coughed slightly and smiled, "Excellent, it will be a wonderful evening." he replied. "I doubt I'll be disappointed. Do you think I could get tour of this wonderful ship of yours?" asked Alura. "Engineering is mine, the ship is Captain Salid's, but yes, I'm sure we can arrange that. I would like you to meet a few of my officers and another close friend of mine." said Matrix. Alura smiled, "I would love to meet your friends and officers, but I want some time alone. We need to catch up on a great many things." replied Alura. Matrix stood up, "Enjoy your time here. We're technically not on a mission so things around here would be rather routine. I'll send someone to give you a tour. I would also like for you to meet our Captain. Okay?" "Perfect. I'll just change and then I'll do some exploring of this ship." replied Alura. "See you soon." said Matrix as he exited her quarters. (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 & 2 - CO-Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 5 - 1916) Ahmed noted Jessica enter the compartment and give a longing glace across the room towards Eian. He didn't need to be a psychiatrist to understand that Jessica and O'Neill had obviously been involved in an argument and that it had not gone well at all. Eian was better at hiding it, but Ahmed could see little things in his stance that betrayed some of his feelings. Jessica's unhappiness with the situation was much more obvious. He thought back to his discussion with Sanok concerning his decision to protect Signos. She WAS dangerous and COULD become dangerous again without provocation. As a captain he was supposed to be confident in his decisions, but truthfully it was not always so plain whether a decision was the correct one. Starfleet Intelligence wanted Signos, so they could take her apart, bit-by-bit and uncover all the secrets that she may possess on the matter of Section 31. By the same token Section 31 wanted her for her unique genetic traits and her apparent track record. Both would use her, force her, torture her to one degree or another and in the end Jessica Signos would cease to be. The complication lay within the method of personality integration that Section 31 had used to create the alter ego of Lily. Two minds, distinct lay within Signos' body. One was a violent deadly killing machine. The other was a Starfleet officer. He was sworn to protect the latter, but he simply refused to do so at the expense of potentially causing her extreme damage. He was an idealist, a rarity in these troubled times perhaps even a little archaic, but he wouldn't compromise his morals and let Intelligence tear her apart piece-by-piece without attempting to help her first. He smiled and made her a drink that he knew that she would love. It was called an Andorian Sunrise. A non-alcoholic drink, it slowly changed color as it warmed to room temperature. It tasted delightful, and he didn't know anyone that didn't like it. Even he thought it tasted great. He made the frosty concoction and placed it on the bar between Signos' table and himself. "Jessica." he called and when he managed to get her attention he waved her over. "I made you something that will help you settle your thoughts and put aside some of your worries if even for a little while. It's called an Andorian Sunrise. Try it, I think you'll agree that it's amazing." (reply Signos) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - CMO's Personal Quarters - YEO - Lieutenant Mike Rosenbauer - Day 5 -1918, 1942) As the door slid open Mike felt his breath catch in his throat. Jennifer stood there, one hand on her hip and one eye-brow cocked in inquiry. The cucumber green dress perfectly accentuated her gorgeous auburn hair and her eyes, seemed to glimmer with tiny sparkles of light. The dress accentuated her very feminine curves and Mike had to make a conscious effort to avoid drooling or looking as if he needed help picking his jaw up from the deck. "And here was me thinking that it was supposed to be us women that were fashionably late." she chided with a sense of false scorn. "Blame the bow tie." he replied as he touched it with his left hand, "the damned thing was as resistant to cooperation as the Borg." She smiled and crossed over to him. Her lips met his and he felt a warm sensation spread from their point of contact and through his body. It was almost as if her kiss had passed some sort of fever to him. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her against him tightly. They broke the embrace and Jennifer took a step back and gave him a solid head-to-toe visual inspection, "Although I must admit you're certainly a sight worth waiting for." "I can absolutely say the same about you. You look amazing." Mike replied. She gave him another glamorous smile and crooked out her left arm. Mike slipped his right arm through hers, smiling as he did so. "Now if you're ready and I'm ready why don't we go have fun?" Mike gave her a short nod as she shifted her position so that her hand rested in the crook of his arm. He had to admit they made a striking couple. "Yes, let's go." he commented. (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 & 2 - YEO - Lieutenant Mike Rosenbauer - Day 5 -1942) The converted cargo bays could have easily passed for a professional venue custom designed for this very event. The engineering and operations teams under Lieutenant Soma, Lieutenant Jackson and Commander Matrix had managed to turn the drab functional cargo bay into something that he had never thought he'd see on a federation starship. A jazz band was playing a piece on the stage and Rosenbauer recognized Ensign Maddox playing piano. That man kept surprising him time-and-time again. Jennifer had been getting her bearings at the same time and they both completed their visual reconnaissance at about the same time. it was Jennifer that spoke first, " How about we get ourselves a drink and then find a table? As far away from the rest of the medical personnel as possible if you don't mind. that way they won't know not to bother us unless I speak to them first." "Sounds like a marvelous plan." Mike replied, and led the way to the bar, where the captain was serving drinks. His date signaled the captain who arrived with a happy smile on his face. "I'll have a large glass of champagne please waiter and my partner will have a pint of Guinness." She then pretended to take a double take before pushing on to her punch line. "Dear lord, Ahmed did we run out of holographic waiters or something?" The captain gave a laugh and smiled broadly as he replied, "Hardly. I'm the Bartender tonight." Jennifer started laughing and Mike couldn't help but chuckle a couple of times as well. "I must say that you are looking very sharp, Sir and I must congratulate you on a very clever idea. It's obviously a huge success. I'm fairly sure that you won't be stuck behind that bar all night, so please feel free to join us when you are free." "Thank you for the invitation. I'll be sure to join you for a while after I've made the rounds and made it past the announcements." (reply Caskie iyw) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 & 2 - CO-Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 5 - 1919) "I would like a white wine and Dahlia would like some tea" Tom replied. "Coming right up." Ahmed stated as he turned and gracefully pulled a wine glass from the rack, and selected a beautiful white wine from Altair VI and began to pour. As he finished filling the glass and replaced the bottle into its nook, he then turned and poured Dahlia a tall tumbler full of freshly brewed iced tea. It was an herbal blend highly recommended by many members of the ship's crew. "It's good to be home again sir" Tom added. Ahmed pushed the two glasses forward to Jackson as he replied, "It's good to have you back aboard Tom. i consider it to be a very good stroke of fortune." Tom thought for a moment before continuing to speak . " I guess you heard the story about the promotion fiasco. Pez decided that I wasn't being promoted fast enough." Tom added. "I heard." Ahmed replied, giving Tom a solemn nod. "It cost you your commander's pip and your position of first officer, I've been told." "To be honest I considered resigning my commission" Jackson added. "Well I'm very glad you didn't. You weren't responsible for that mess, and Starfleet should have seen that well enough to have forgone punishment. Besides I'm very glad to have you back aboard the Rosenante. Your stepdad did us all a favor in a way. He helped to reveal a corrupt element inside BUPERS, which although unintentional will prevent potentially unworthy officers from being advanced and putting many ships crews at risk. You deserved the position and maybe someday you'll have the opportunity to step back into it. For now stay steadfast and know that you are welcomed and wanted here. " Dahlia convinced me to come home. I was not sure of my reception. But here I am." Tom added. "Your wife is a rare gem Tom. I'd trust her judgment, she seems to be very savvy about such things. It's called an Andorian Sunrise. Try it, I think you'll agree that it's amazing." Jessica moved to the bar and accepted the drink. "Thank you Captain, Does it show that badly?" Jessica knew that such a drink was normally made for people that needed a cheering up. Especially since she never ordered such a pleasantry. Jessica asked as she slid onto the bar stool. "I'm just adept at reading people, it's not so obvious really." Ahmed replied half truthfully. In fact most of the crew hadn't even noticed. "I take it you and Eian had a break-up?" he inquired when the banter was finished. "I guess in a life filled with such few joys and friends, I feel the loss more acutely than others." She said, obviously struggling with keeping the appearance of solidity and aloofness that she was used to. "Yes I suppose there is something to that," Ahmed agreed with a nod. " but I think you may not realize how many friends you really have here. We all lose at love sometimes, It's a complicated condition, and it hurts, but it's always something that you will recover from and always something that you will survive. You're just new to the experience and it seems to hurt worse than anything else you may have experienced. I assure you, this thing too shall pass." He paused to let her absorb his words before he continued, "How do you like the Andorian Sunrise?" (reply Jessica iyw) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bay 1 and 2 - ATAC Ensign sg. "Enjoyable." was Jessica's single word answer her mind already on other things. "Sir you say that I don't realize how many friends I'm surrounded by." She sighed has she waited till the bar cleared if only for a moment. "But can't the same be said about enemies, how many of these friends would turn against me if they the truth about... what I'm capable of." She looked across the room the dance floor, and all the gathered crew, before she returned her attention to the captain. "If I could someone has close to me has Eian. Who else would stand by my side if the truth was to be known." She paused has another person came to the bar and ordered an drink, Jessica waited for the Captain to finish his business with the newcomer before continuing. "You know has well, as I that burden I carry will not remain secret forever, and that they will come for me." She knew the Captain would understand the they she mentioned. "I just have to wonder is it better to be loved and forgotten than feared and respected." (reply Salid) That was it in a nut shell, the dark conflict that raged with in Jessica. The one thought above all others that needed to be sorted out. Where would she sit when the house of cards came tumbling down and Section 31 came after her and Salid would have to give up the ghost that was Lily. Could the rest of the crew accept what she was and still call her friend or would they turn on her. Want to hold her accountable for all the evil Lily has done. There were so many questions that ran rampant though her mind that were summed up by that one statement. (reply Salid) (posted by Matthew Locke) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 & 2 - CO-Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 5 - 1937) If there were two people that could make the dress white uniforms that Starfleet officers wore to formal events look comfortable, it was Commanders Sullivan and Matrix. The two although arriving at different times, created small ripples of appreciation as they moved through the room. Both were officers who had a field of colored ribbons on their chest showing their service to the Federation. Admittedly, they were both more highly commended than their captain, which was another reason that Ahmed had chosen to wear a tuxedo instead of his formal dress uniform. Ahmed watched as Sullivan paused at the doorway for a moment, surveying the situation with her usual Vulcan aplomb before braving the sea of dancing and shifting crowds of ship's crew. She was accompanied by Lieutenant Masters, a fairly accomplished although relatively quiet member of the ship's crew. They reached the bar after only a short trip. "Good evening captain." she greeted him as she arrived at the bar. "Good evening commander, how are you enjoying the evening?" he asked. "As well as can be expected considering." She replied. Ahmed almost thought he heard a slight indication of resignation or even sadness in her voice. "Vulcan Port please." "Scotch neat." Masters added as he arrived at the bar. "Coming right up." The captain replied as he pulled down a wine glass from the rack with his left hand and grabbed a small crystal tumbler, emblazoned with the Rosenante's name and registration on the glass. He placed them both on the bar top and picked up both the bottles containing the requested drink and using his amazing skills of practiced dual-pouring coordination, poured both drinks simultaneously; two fingers of 20-year old Glenn Livet and a glass of Vulcan Port. He placed both the bottles on the bar and slid the drinks forward to their respective requester. "You've some time to mix a bit before the main festivities Commander. You two should enjoy the music, maybe dance a bit." Ahmed smiled at T'Larah, then gave Masters a nod. "And you Miss Fisher look absolutely breathtaking." Ahmed replied honestly. Fisher grinned, "Thank you sir. Could I have a large glass of fresh orange juice and ice please? I might well be covering a shift tonight plus I need to keep at least one eye on Mrs. Jackson just to be on the safe side." "Coming right up." Ahmed replied as he turned and retrieved four fresh oranges. he expertly cut them in half and ran them through the squeezer. The results were then poured through a strainer to remove all but the most tiny of pulp. The resultant juices were then poured over a tall glass of ice. "Here you go, squeezed it myself." Ahmed added with a smile as he placed the juice on the bar before her. "Now sir if you don't mind I think I should go circulate amongst the medical personnel. Exerting the same pressure back Kitty ignored it and smiled at the woman in front of her. "It's a pleasure to meet you. May I call you Blake?" “A Pleasure, doctor. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I hope never to be in need of your services. A trip to sickbay is not something I usually need.” Kitty simply grinned back at her. "Not at all. Among the sea of crew his keen eyes spotted Lieutenant Nayeli, technically the newest member of their crew until such time as JAG recalled her. He forced himself to smile rather than frown, driving the thoughts of having a baby sitter aboard his ship from his mind. He needed to remain objective where she was concerned. Allowing any personal feelings to work their way into any potential professional relationship between himself and her would be disastrous. She was dressed in a dazzling dress and Ahmed had to admit that she filled it very well. "Captain, it's not often the CO serves in this way." She spoke lightly, making it clear she was curious rather than anything else. "I try not to be a typical captain lieutenant. I believe that a captain should be approachable and not aloof. It's a policy that I inherited from Captain Rivers when I served as her first officer aboard the Champlain." he replied, "I hope you don't disapprove?" "No, Captain. To me, it is a welcome sight. I am all for the command staff understanding service in wider terms than just ordering subordinates around." Nayeli smiled. "Well then you and I have a similar philosophy. Service is part of the need to see to all the needs of your crew. Can i offer you a drink. I'm curious what sort of poison you prefer." he replied as he smiled. "Can I get a Black and Tan please, Captain?" she requested. "One black and tan coming up." Ahmed responded with a smile. He turned and retrieved the Guinness extra stout and the Bass pale Ale needed to mix the drink properly. he then pulled his black and tan spoon from the drawer at the bar and ran it under the sterilization field. Obviously this woman resented Kitty being here and was trying to stake her claim on Lt Viskard and Kitty found it amusing enough to keep her end of the slightly less than civilised conversation going long enough to see what would happen and how the normally quiet Viskard would react to it. "That won't be necessary. I have some time in the afternoon if that is suitable?" Blake replied. Kitty smirked. "Not for me unfortunately, being the newest doctor I'm on the dead shift so to speak, but I'll leave a note for the CMO to let her know to expect you tomorrow." Before Blake could reply Kitty saw a flash of jealousy cross her face as someone else joined them. "Well, it seems that he's a popular guy." Blake said. As Viskard greeted the woman who had joined them Kitty directed a broad grin at Blake. "And why shouldn't he be. He's single, polite, fairly good looking, if your taste runs to Denobulans, probably very kind to his mother and looks fairly spectacular in that outfit. Oh, I get it, you thought you would have him all to yourself this evening. Oh well, sorry to disappoint and all that." (Reply Turner) As Blake turned to Viskard and somewhat petulantly asked for an introduction to the newcomer Kitty extended her hand to her. "Kitty Fisher, pleased to meet you." (Reply Nayeli) (Posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 and 2 – aCSO Lt jg Viskhard and JAG Lt Nayeli - 2021) "Viskhard, it's been a long time. I see you've done well for yourself." Nayeli was smooth and cool as she spoke. Nayeli's voice made Visk do a double take. He'd been so engrossed in both the other women near him that she had snuck up on him and he had to work to withhold his natural defence mechanism. He was only partially successful and his temples puffed out momentarily and his eyes widened. “Nayeli! It has been a long time. I hope you've done well for yourself?” He smiled awkwardly and gave a half-hearted chuckle. The conversation was continuing next to him - to which Visk was semi-attentive - but he was still trying to sort out his Academy days and his current situation. ~What is that old Earth saying? It never rains but it pours.~ Visk felt like he had wished himself into a situation. Before Nayeli could speak again, Blake spoke up. She came close to Viskhard's side, almost too close, and said, "So, you going to introduce us all?" Visk suddenly remembered himself and what he was in the middle of. “Yes ah... Blake Turner, Doctor Fisher,” he indicated each woman in turn as he spoke, “this is Nayeli, a former Academy classmate, though I'm not sure of rank or current specialty – as I've been rather buried in my science studies when not on duty.” He tried for a little mild humour, but felt like he was totally inept again. Kitty extended her hand to her. "Kitty Fisher, pleased to meet you." Nayeli smiled gently, “Viskhard, as always – you never fail to amuse.” In this way she also avoided talking about her own work – she didn't want to spoil such an evening with talk of JAG overseers. She took the offered hand, “A pleasure.” Viskhard looked down at his drink, feeling like a child who had just been chastised, though he knew Nayeli hadn't meant it. He noted that she didn't answer his veiled query, but he left it be. (reply Blake, Kitty iyw) Nayeli, relaxed and un-threatened by the prospect of multiple suitors for a man she still considered an excellent choice of first husband spoke first to the medic, “Doctor Fisher, I believe I'll be coming to Sickbay for a standard check-up once I've settled in as I have just been transferred. I overheard you say you are on the dead shift, I'd like to give you something to do. How does 0200 sound, perhaps not tonight but the following night?” (reply Kitty) Nayeli smiled, “I look forward to it.” She now turned her attention to the other woman who was still nearly crowding Viskhard, attempting to do so without letting on. “Miss Fisher, I quite like your dress, it's amazing that we have such similar tastes.” (reply Blake) Visk stood there, his instinct finally kicking in – if only on a low simmer. He had a sense that he needed to relieve the tension that had been building. Without removing his gloves, he placed his glass on the nearest table and then touched Nayeli's shoulder as well as Kitty's, and finally Blake's. “Ladies, I would like to invite each of you to share a dance with me this evening.” Visk was gentle in his words, though his heart pounded like a jackhammer. Nayeli understood the gesture as a tacit acceptance of her as a possible interest and smiled at Viskhard. She returned the gesture, recognizing yet that he'd kept his gloves on. ~How does a striking Denobulan like you get to be so shy?~ Nayeli asked him in her head, though she would save that for a better time. The lights in the rest of the compartment dimmed. All eyes fell to him and a hush settled across the room. "Good evening everyone!" Ahmed said with a tone of enthusiasm, which the collected crowd returned two fold. "Is everyone having a good time?" A rancorous cheers , whistles and screaming followed his question, which was an answer in itself. He waited patiently for the majority of the nose to settle before continuing. "I want to thank you all for attending the event tonight. First Engineer Lindba and his staff from Asrai Prime were unable to attend due to pressing circumstances on the planet, but they send us their regrets. They have also sent us some Asrai festival liquors that will be stored in Tradewinds, and will be made available for limited consumption by the ship's crew as we move forward with our adventures in this sector." There was some more cheering at the news and Ahmed pushed through as soon as he was able. "I'd like to thank everyone who worked hard to convert these two cargo bays into such a wonderful looking venue. Commander Matrix, Lieutenant Soma, Lieutenant Sanok, Lieutenant Jackson and Lieutenant Jackson over saw the work details, but a large number of the ship's crew participated in the work. Please take a moment to recognize all the hard work that these people did to prepare your venue." A uproarious response filled the chamber with echoing cheers screams and whistles. It almost made Ahmed feel as if he was a host at some interstellar gala rather than a ship's event. He waved the crowd down and continued. As you know we recently faced a difficult decision concerning the application of the Prime Directive to the Asrai people. This mission made us question many things and to conduct operations in an effort to prevent the extinction of a species. This was very stressful on the ship's crew and her officers, and to reflect that I have been authorized to present the following personnel with commendations for their actions on Asrai Prime and aboard ship." And now we have another important matter to conduct. Please give a warm welcome to Commander T'Larah Sullivan and Marine Colonel Henry Smith. Commander Sullivan, Colonel Smith, Front!" It sounded vaguely Risan in origin with - oddly enough - a Bolian twist. Blake smiled at the man in front of her and whispered in his ear, "This is nice." Pulling back a little, she felt his hand move to her back and it made her gasp softly. Visk held her at the small of her back, tight enough to signal his leading movements, but not so close that they touched completely body to body. He looked into her face, not sure what to say. "Viskhard, tell me something..... do you like me?" Viskhard felt his eyes go bright purple with embarassment. He did indeed, but must have bungled things up for her to ask him in this manner. He stammered, "Yes, I.... I do believe so. I'm sorry if I haven't made that clear." Smiling, she replied, "It's not that. I just...." Sighing, she continued, "I like you aswell." Visk calmed his hammering heart enough to respond, "I'm rather inept at this aren't I?" His grin became lopsided as the humour started to become apparent to him. "Been too buried in my books to realize what I'm missing." Laughing softly, she replied, "Then perhaps you need someone to show you what you have been missing." Sliding her hand gently to the back of his neck, she stroked the bare skin there for just a second and then winked. Viskhard's eyes went a little wide at the touch. It sent shivers down his spine and he took in a sharp breath before responding. "You have already proven to be a good teacher, let's just hope I am a good student." She smiled and said, "Oh you are. I just hope that we can continue learning from each other." He spun her. Gliding across the floor, Viskhard was losing sight of the rest of the room as he kept his gaze locked with hers. As they danced, he lost his inhibitions and spoke without thinking, "Have I told you how wonderful your eyes are?" She smiled softly and said, "No and thank you." Closing her eyes briefly, she reopened them and, willing them to sparkle, she said, "I hope I am not going to embarrass you by saying that there's a lot more to me than my eyes." Viskhard felt like his eyes were doing nothing but flipping back and forth between embarassment and pleasure, but he held himself together and laughed, "Oh, I'm aware of that. Your eyes are just the first thing that captured me." A slightly wicked grin flickered across her face as she replied, "Fancy getting out of here? Somewhere we can dance by ourselves perhaps." His own smile widenned at that, "That would be most acceptable." Visk mavouevered them off the dance floor and towards the doors. As they walked Visk offered his arm to Blake, slipping off his glove opposite to rest his hand on top of hers. A grin fell over Blake's face as she felt his skin connect with hers and she said, "I think i know just the place." (Reply No-one) (Posted by Jackie Smith and Lori Winteroff) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 & 2 - ACEO Lt Eian O'Neill - Day 5 - 2105) Eian was enjoying the cotillion and trying to avoid Jessica. She looked visibly sad and he felt sorry for her but he couldn't bring himself to feel anything but sympathy--his feelings were not reciprocated. He felt free...like a burden had been lifted from his shoulders. His relationship with Jessica had brought him nothing but complication and worry, and with Lily thrown into the mix, he wasn't even sure it was Jessica he was speaking to at any given time. He knew he had done the right thing. He walked over to the bar and greeted the Captain. "How are you enjoying the party, Sir?" (reply Salid) (posted by Morgan G) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Personal Quarters – aCSO Lt jg Viskhard & SecO Ensign Blake Turner - 2245, 2325) Blake opened the door to her quarters and said, "You want to come in?" Viskhard nodded and let her lead him in, her hand slipped out from under his arm, but still touching his and pulling him forward. Walking slowly into the room, she felt a little flutter of nerves. She knew what was about to happen but she wan't sure if he did. She stopped by the window and looked out at the stars and said, "I love this view. So calming." Her hand slipped from his as she wrapped her arms around herself and sighed. "Can I ask you something?" Viskhard tilted his head as he came up behind her. He gently, nervously placed his now ungloved hands on her shoulders as he spoke, "Anything." Keeping her gaze on the stars, she spoke, "Are you as scared as I am right now? I mean, I've done this before but never like this..... the physical stuff, yes. But this is something different." Viskhard looked out at the stars with her, trying to find an answer that was right. He decided on the completely honest route. "I am afraid. I have never done this before, despite my culture and I..." He trailed off, not sure how to continue and afraid his quaking voice might betray him too much. "You're something special. I could tell that the moment I saw you." She paused a moment and said, "I know about your culture and I'm not angling for any position or anything...." His instinct took over and Viskhard reached up, putting a finger to her lips, quieting her. "Shh, we shall figure that out in time." Her eyes closed at the touch. She drew in a breath and whispered, "Okay." Taking a deep breath of his own, he turned her gently away from the window to look up at him. "You, Blake Turner, are special." She looked deep into his eyes and said, "I'm nothing special." She bit her lip as she wrapped her arms around his waist, gently. He brushed her hair back before sliding his hand into it. "No, you are nothing special... you are extraordinary." Visk paused, gaining some courage for what he was about to do, "I think we should try were we left off last time." He bent down and gently kissed her, sending shivers down his spine. Feeling his lips on hers sent a million electric shocks through her body. Pulling him closer she put her arms around his neck and ran her fingers through his hair. After a moment, she pulled away and spoke, keeping her eyes on his. "Wow, for a man who says he knows nothing, that was breathtaking." Visk could barely breath, "You have a certain way of doing that too." He blinked, "I think I'm slightly overwhelmed." Smiling, she said, "I know. Let's take this slowly." She leant her head on his chest and said, "What now?" Viskhard grinned as he leaned his cheek on top of her head, "I think I like here, but I would like my jacket off, would you help?" She nodded and said, "Of course." Walking behind him, she reached up and slowly pulled off his jacket. Sliding her arms around his waist, she leant into his back gently and said, "Like that?" "Yes," he nodded, "that is rather more comfortable." He rested his hands on hers a moment, enjoying the feeling of her alongside him, she leant him a sort of steel of being that he'd never felt before. He vowed to himself to do nothing that would remove this from himself. Viskhard pulled her hands loose and turned himself around to face her again. He ran his hands down her arms, his sensitive hands feeling gooseflesh despite the perfect ambient temperature. "I believe you promised me some private dancing lessons?" Visk teased gently. He understood the fuller meaning, but was content to let things unfold naturally. She grinned and said, "I did, didn't I." He picked up one of her hands and gently placed a kiss to her palm before placing it on his neck and placing his own on the bare skin of her back. She closed her eyes at the touch and sighed. "Computer, A little light jazz music." She opened her eyes as the strains of the piano and violins began to play through the room. Visk closed his eyes and took in the sound, he smiled, "What next?" She lifted his other hand and placed it gently on her hip and said, "follow my lead." Beginning to move, she began to move around the room slowly. After a moment, she lay her head on his chest and said, "This feels right. Safe somehow." Visk opened his eyes and leaned his head back with a quizzical look in his eyes. He spoke before he thought, "You will always be safe with me, Blake." "I know." She said simply, looking into his eyes. Visk smoothly took over the lead role and danced her over to the couch where he made a move that deftly sat the both of them down. He was shaking, but it wasn't all nerves now. She found herself staring into his eyes. The eyes that would constantly change colour had her enthralled. She found her breath catching a little as she reached forward and took his hand in hers. The moment was now and Visk knew that if he stopped the momentum - as slow as it might appear - he'd never get his courage back. He knew that this was a pivotal point in his life - whatever it brought. He removed the pin holding his cravat in place and loosened it somewhat before silently pulling Blake's hands up to finish that part of the job. Know what he was asking her to do, she took off his cravat and left her hands just on his jaw bone. Stroking his goatee, she gently pulled him towards her and kissed him softly. Visk responded, tilting her backwards slightly and thoroughly enjoying the kiss, he pulled back and looked deep into her eyes - his own having finally reached total relaxation and the royal blue that came with it. Looking at him, she smiled and lay back on the couch, pulling him gently towards her. Viskhard, for the first time in his life, didn't analyze or think about what was happening. He just leapt in and let her catch him. (USS Rosenante, Personal Quarters – aCSO Lt jg Viskhard & SecO Ensign Blake Turner - 2325) Couches were generally not designed for two adult bodies to be entwined on them, but Blake and Viskhard seemed to make it work. Viskhard wasn't attired in much of his evening wear anymore, and yet he was perfectly comfortable. ~Days ago you would have had a different opinion, dear boy.~ He smiled and kissed the top of Blake's head, "I can see why you enjoy exercise." He smiled as he said this. Blake smiled and said, "I thought you might." She returned his kiss to his chin and held him close to her and sighed happily. This moment, right here and now was perfect and she was finally happy. Happy in life, happy within herself and, most importantly, happy with this man. Viskhard chuckled and leaned his head back on the edge of the couch. The exercise had wiped him out and within minutes his mind was wandering into some healthy hallucinations, but not without his arms curling protectively around Blake. As his mind drifted, he thought he really ought to get to know this woman who had so easily brought out a side of himself never properly tapped before. Blake started to dose against him and Visk was more than happy to let her be there. (reply none) (posted by Lori Winterhoff and Jackie Smith) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 & 2 - Lt. Sanok - Day 5 - 2329, 2339) For most of the evening at the cotillion, Sanok had stayed to himself. Occasionally, someone would approach him and make small talk, or try to persuade him to participate in the dancing or drinking. Sanok had other things on his mind. The frivolities of the party weren't even on his list. A commotion caught his eye. Listening, he could hear the sounds of someone vomiting. Moving there, he saw a member of the crew he didn't know, throwing up into a soup bowl. "Who is this?" said Sanok to those nearby. "Crewman Potter from engineering," someone said. This was the excuse Sanok sought to be able to leave the gathering. "I will take him to sickbay," said Sanok. He reached down and grabbed the man, lifting him to his feet. (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Lt. Sanok - Day 5 - 2339) Sanok and Potter walked into the middle of chaos. A patient was screaming and thrashing about, while several personnel tried to restrain her. Sanok quickly found a place for Potter to sit, told him to stay, and moved towards the others. By the time he got there, the patient had been sedated. "Have her put into a private room and make sure that she is confined to bed by a forcefield," said Doctor Fisher. "I don't want her wandering around in this state. Oh, and you better contact the CMO and ask her to stop by. I am going to need her authorization to revoke Lieutenant Fraiser's codes so that she cannot simply walk out of here." "That will not be necessary, Doctor," said Sanok. "Computer, security override. Revoke all access codes for Lieutenant Tayla Fraiser. Authorization, Sanok alpha omega 7." [Access codes for Lieutenant Fraiser revoked.] "Now, Mister Davis, if you would accompany me to the CMO's office, maybe we could get to the bottom of this." Normally, in a situation where someone was ill, though they showed hostile reactions as Lieutenant Fraiser had, Sanok would not have been part of a discussion on what was wrong, as it would fall under the rules of medical confidentiality. However, since Fraiser had come to him about Lily, the cause of her illness was clear to him. Thus, it was a security matter. "Doctor Fisher. Mister Davis. I must insist that I be part of your meeting," said Sanok. "I believe I know what caused this." (no reply needed) (Posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - MO - Lt (sg) Kitty Fisher - Day 5 - 2337) Given that it was Parker who had called Sickbay Kitty already knew that it was either Tayla or Parker himself who needed help. When both of them materialised in Sickbay she immediately figured out that it had to be Tayla. Swallowing the smile that threatened to break across her face given their state of undress she hurried over to them, covered Tayla with a blanket and picking up a Sickbay coverall she handed it to Parker. Running her medical tricorder over Tayla nothing to be honest seemed all that much wrong with her except that her adrenalin readings were somewhat higher than normal. Listening to the conversation between the two of them she took in the argument going on whilst looking like she really wasn't listening to what they were saying to each other. Just as her tricorder told her that Tayla's readings had almost climbed off the scale she watched as Tayla attacked Parker. Turning to the nurse attending her Kitty told her to help hold Tayla down whilst Kitty set up a tranquilising hypo. It took both of them and Parker to hold down a wildly flailing Tayla and she still managed to get away from them at least once. Kitty dialed up the dose before finally managing to press it against Tayla's neck and watched as she finally collapse back on to the bed. Parker looked to the doctor in shock and concern and asked, "What the hell is happening to her?" Kitty simply looked at him and shook her head. "I have no idea Mr Parker. I was hoping you could tell me to be honest. Was she this violent before you contacted Sickbay?" (Reply Parker) Turning to the nurse she motioned to Tayla. "That will not be necessary, Doctor," "Computer, security override. Revoke all access codes for Lieutenant Tayla Fraiser. Authorization, Sanok alpha omega 7." [Access codes for Lieutenant Fraiser revoked.] Kitty recognised the voice and just as she turned towards him he continued talking. "Doctor Fisher. Mister Davis. (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - CMO's Office - MO - Lt (sg) Kitty Fisher - Day 5 - 2343) Once there she crossed behind the desk although she didn't sit down. "Right gentlemen, one at a time if you please. Mr Davis if you could start, I need to know what you think if anything brought this on." "I can't explain the violence. She indicated she had encountered Lily," he said, knowing that Kitty had been briefed and had been involved when Jessica was in Sickbay under Liam O'Neill's care. "In her mind. Lily attacked her. She was acting very disturbed, and I thought it was best she get a brain scan." He slipped the tunic on and then sat down across from the CMO's chair. "I was about to go to the Captain with this because I'm concerned about the security of the ship if Lt. Sanok might be a target. Or any partial telepath for that matter. She blew up. Kitty simply nodded not wanting to add anything but suddenly Tayla's abrupt disappearance from Jessica's holographic programme made sense. Turning she gazed at Sanok. "I take it Sir that you have more to add on this subject. Why don't we all sit down and you can tell us what you know." (Reply Parker, Sanok) (Posted by Marilyn) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - COUNS Parker Davis - Day 5 - 2341) Answering Kitty's question, Parker stated, "No, she was upset but not violent." Kitty ordered the nurse nearby, "Have her put into a priavte room and make sure that she is confined to a bed by a forcefield. I don't want her wandering around in this state. Oh and you better contact the CMO and ask her to stop by. I am going ot need her authorization to revoke Lt. Fraiser's codes so that she cannot simply walk out of here." She turned to Parker. "Now Mr. Davis if you would accompany me to the CMO's Office maybe we could get to the bottom of this." "Sounds good to me," he said, his expression the epitome of concern as he watched Tayla being taken into a private room, where she would be confined to a bed. It disturbed him to think of her in that state when everything had seemed fine before. Once in the CMO's office, Parker pulled the Sickbay pants on first and said, "I can't explain the violence. (reply Kitty) (posted by Morgan G) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - CMO's Office - Lt. Sanok - Day 5 - 2344) "I can't explain the violence," said Davis. "She indicated she had encountered Lily," This brought two things to Sanok's mind. First, it confirmed that Lily was the cause of Fraiser's outburst. Secondly, it made Sanok wonder how many people on board knew about her. "In her mind, Lily attacked her," said Davis. "She was acting very disturbed, and I thought it was best she get a brain scan." Sanok respected that Captain Salid wanted to help Ensign Signos, and he had given his word to help, but this had to be a wakeup call for the captain. He simply could not have someone on board that telepathically attacked other crew. "I was about to go to the captain with this, because I'm concerned about the security of the ship, if Lt. Sanok might be a target, or any partial telepath, for that matter. She blew up. I can't explain it. It was like she wasn't seeing me. She was seeing someone else, at some other time." Though Sanok wanted to find Signos and arrest her, he had to wait for more information. This may not have been an actual attack, but an automatic defense mechanism programmed into Signos to prevent Lily's thoughts from being read. Still, if Fraiser's contact with her was casual and inadvertent, and Lily could cause such a reaction, how could anyone with any psychic abilities be safe anywhere near her? "I take it, sir," said Fisher to Sanok, "that you have more to add on this subject. Why don't we all sit down and you can tell us what you know." Sanok preferred to stand, but out of respect, he sat in one of the chairs. He carefully considered what to say before he spoke. "Lieutenant Fraiser came to me at the cotillion and told me she had a telepathic encounter with a dark presence inside Ensign Signos," said Sanok. "It happened at a gathering involving a number of the women from the crew. She stated that it frightened her. We were going to discuss it more in the morning. She was reluctant about informing the captain, but after tonight, we must tell him." (reply Davis, Fisher) (posted by Bob B.) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Jessica's quarters - ATAC Ensign sg. Jessica Signos - Day 5 – 2345) Again there was no sleep for Jessica to be continually haunted by the actions of a ghost. Jessica wondered how she some timed continued to press on. The Cotillion seemed to be a success in has more people enjoyed it than not. For Jessica it was a practice in how to be a wall flower and to let everyone else have a moment were they could push the problems of their lives away if even for a few short hours. There was no escape for Jessica, there never was an escape. She hated everyone else for there ability to put the unpleasant things in their life out of there mind. It was the natural progression of things sadness turned to anger, anger to rage, and has Jessica paced her quarters she suppressed the need to break, to harm, to destroy. To make something feel or look the way she felt inside. She saw the way Frasier looked at her with fear in her eye. Jessica now knew something had happened in the bath house between her and Talya but Lily was still being stubbornly silent about her hand in it. Jessica knew Lily had something to do with it, only the knowledge of Lily would cause someone to look at her in such a fashion. She watched has Frasier talked to Sanok saw they way he shifted in his chair, by now there was no dough in her mind that he knew of the assassin that lied in there mist. Jessica knew that such a thing would not sit well with the straight laced Vulcan and he was more than likely trying all he could to get her thrown off the ship, under armed guard, or even have her thrown into the brig. Then Jessica saw Eian how easily he had moved on talking and conversing with friends with out a care in the world. Jessica was tired with the act, tired of the walls that seemed to be closing in all around her. How much longer would Captain Salid be able to deny her, deny what she was. How much longer could she keep the beast contained. She grabbed a PADD, and absorbed herself in a task. Section 31 would indeed come for her or she would be forced to return to them. She had a small moment and the ability to pass along all she knew. She could expose the secret organization and she had every intention on doing just that. It just might be the only bit of retribution she would ever have. Maybe one day this knowledge would be used to finally bring the organization down. "If she had encountered Lily before, whether it was inadvertent or not, then a second encounter was definitely on purpose, especially considering that Tayla was asleep. She wouldn't have been able to put up any barriers while she was asleep and would have been more vulnerable to a telepathic attack. I've been working with Jessica to control Lily but obviously the techniques I gave her aren't working, and until we can find something that does work, I think we should arrest Ensign Signos and inform the Captain that she's a potential threat to partial telepaths on board." Kitty shook her head. "I'm sorry Lt Davis, but I disagree. I worked under Cmdr O'Neill to take care of Jessica and not once did we ever find any evidence of either Jessica or Lily being telepathic. However I do know that Lt Fraiser is empathic and is not, how shall I put it, quite in control of her abilities as yet. I agree with both of you that we indeed need to inform the Captain about what has happened. I would have to any way regardless of either of you being involved. Perhaps Mr Sanok this would be better coming from you. I am sure that Lieutenant Davis and I would be prepared to write a report as a back up, but will tell both of you now that until Sickbay finds that Jessica or Lily is in any way responsible for Tayla's condition I will not back any recommendation to arrest Lt Signos at present." "We need to hear from Tayla what happened and until we hear from her arresting Jessica is definitely premature,I think." (Posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay, CMO's Office, Lt. Sanok, Day 5, 2351) Davis wanted Signos to be placed under arrest for what had happened to Fraiser. However, Fisher stated that there was no evidence that Signos was telepathic. This reinforced Sanok's idea that Signos might only have an automatic defense mechanism against telepathic and empathic inquiries, rather than the abilities themselves. Regardless, they all felt that Captain Salid had to be told what happened. "I will inform Captain Salid," said Sanok. Since everything was quiet at this point, he felt he could wait until tomorrow morning. Things were going well at the cotillion, and he did not wish to unnecessarily burden the captain with this news. "We need to hear from Tayla what happened,' said Fisher, "and until we hear from her, arresting Jessica is definitely premature, I think." "I agree, Doctor," said Sanok. He would not have minded placing her in the brig; he had seen firsthand what she could do, but he was a Starfleet officer in the United Federation of Planets, and Ensign Signos would be treated fairly. "Mister Davis," said Sanok, "I know you are worried, but Lieutenant Fraiser is not in any danger at this point. We will wait and see what Captain Salid decides to do." The thought of breakfast and then her bed was calling to Kitty big time and, all the paperwork done Kitty was looking forward to briefing Josh quickly and then heading off. The comm sounding didn't at first worry Kitty since it happened all the time. When her personal alarm suddenly went off at the same time Kitty sighed. It was only set up at present for Dahlia and the alarm going off meant only one thing. Dahlia was finally in labour and the twins were on their way. Turning here alarm off Kitty answered the comm. "Kitty here Tom. I know, my alarm went off just as you contacted me. I'll have you both beamed to Sickbay momentarily if you can both stand still for a moment." Kitty cut the channel before Tom could say anything else and entering the Main Sickbay she made sure that everyone knew that Dahlia and Tom would be beaming in shortly and why. As everyone scurried to make sure everything was read Kitty simply went into decontamination and donning a clean suit and entering the room set aside for Dahlia smiled at both of them. Marah thankfully was there as well and Kitty nodded to her. "Well Mama Jackson, looks like you don't have too long to wait now." (No reply needed) (Posted by Marilyn ------------------------- (USS Rosenante -Personal Quarters-Marah Neru- Day 6- 0604) Marah was drifting in and out of sleep, the Captain's party had gone over well and everyone seemed to have enjoyed it. Ben's dancing was showing a considerable improvement, as the night went on he stubbed her toes less often. She was pleased with his progress and his willingness to take lessons, he wasn't very enthusiastic at first but warmed to the idea. Suddenly she heard a beeping and jumped out of the bed, Dahlia's warning was going off. Ben rolled over groggily. "Who called the red alert?" He asked. "Dahlia's in labor." Marah explained as she pulled on some sweats. "I've got to get to sickbay." She didn't stop to grab anything from the replicator but ran straight out the door. She ran to the closest turbo lift and jumped inside as soon as the doors were wide enough to admit her. "Sickbay." She instructed. Maybe it was the excitement or a figment of her imagination but she was certain the lift was taking too long to reach it's destination. As soon as it stopped and opened the doors Marah was again at a run and didn't stop running until the doors to sickbay opened up. She entered and one of the nurses nodded to her and pointed towards the ward where Dahlia was. Marah headed in that direction pausing just long enough to ensure the two neonatal units hadn't been moved from where she had placed them. She crossed the ward to the bed where Dahlia was lying, she took one of Dahlia's hands. "I'm her Dahlia." She said. "We're going to get you through this." (reply Dahlia, any medical staff) (posted by Milo Young) ------------------------- (Uss Rosenante Deck Sick Bay Dahlia Jackson Day 6 0606) Dahlia was experiencing pain at a level she never before realized existed. Tom was trying to help but being a man really wasn't much help. Marah raced into the area and came directly to her side. Her friend's presence helped her relax. The medical staff bustled around checking her vitals. Kitty and Josh were on their way. Those two were old and dear friends. She knew between them she'd make it. Tom was pacing like any first time dad. He was making a pest of himself with constant questions. "Tom please relax and shut up" Dahlia yelled. "Someone give him a hypo to calm him down" she added through clouds of pain. Tom stopped. She had never spoke like that before. He stepped back and to a chair someone had offered him. Tom motioned for Josh and Kitty to come over. "Is she o.k.?" He asked. (Reply: josh/Kitty) (Posted by: Bill W) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sick Bay - Private Ward - MO - Lt (sg) Kitty Fisher - Day 6 - 0608) When Kitty walked in to Dahlia's room she saw the usual mixture of confusion and purpose of a delivery room. Purpose from the staff since they had seen it oh so many times before and this honestly was nothing new to them, but confusion from the parents. This was their first child, or in this case children and neither of then had much of an idea about what was happening. Taking charge Kitty simply smiled at all of them listened to what the nursing staff told her and overrode both Tom and Dahlia's voices. "Enough nonsencse now. Dahlia, you are fine as far as I can tell so far. Tom, she's fine, be quiet and sit down. It will still be a while before the kids are here. Several hours I think. Now I need to go brief Josh on something else that has happened this evening but I will be right back once I've done that and I will stay with you until your babies are here. Ok. So far there is nothing to worry about, both of you simply need to relax and let it happen in it's own good time, ok" (Reply Tom, Dahlia, Marah) (Posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (Uss Rosenante - Sick Bay - Private Ward - Lt. Tom & Dahlia Jackson - COPS - Day 6 - 0610) Tom and Dahlia were yelling Kitty shouted "Enough nonsense now. Dahlia, you are fine as far as I can tell so far. Tom, she's fine, be quiet and sit down". Jackson reddened but did as instructed. This was way more stressful than mission he'd been on. Despite his sometimes low opinion of himself, Tom was an capable, active man. Waiting was not in his nature. His thoughts turned to what was about to happen to him and Dahlia. They were to be responsible for two defenseless babies. They had to teach them right and wrong. How Jacob and Hope would turn out as adults would be due to how Dahlia and Tom raised them. Tom Jackson had led others before but the rearing of the twins worried him. His mom had long reminded him being a parent 'OJT'. Jackson fretted as he heard gasps of pain from his beloved wife. (Reply: any) (Posted by: Bill W.) ------------------------- (Uss Rosenante - Sick Bay - LT Chance Raschen - QM/Strat Ops - 0620) Chance walked into Sick Bay just in time to hear shouts of pain and screams of aggrivation. “Yep, sounds like everything is off to a typical start.” Even with a hangover from the night before, he quipped to no one in particular. Raschen got to the door of the room in question and took an angled look through the window to see Jackson sitting as he fretted. Raschen could even hear some of the sounds coming from the mother-to-be. He had been there for moral support for several new fathers. Raschen gently rapped on the window to get Tom’s attention and let him know that the privateer was there for him if needed. (Reply: Jackson, any) Raschen thought back to a time between the Fed-Car War and the Federation Civil War when he still used the name Temerarious. He was captain of a Retro-Shiva class destroyer Dark Crystal. The ship’s quartermaster was about to be a new father at any time. His wife was 3 days travel at Warp 8 on a space station. They were robbing supply convoys deep in the Klingon Empire. SFI wanted them to move to Cardassian space, but instead ‘Captain Temerarious’ disobeyed and traveled 7 days out of the way so that one of his men could see his baby girl born. With a reasuring smirk on his face ~It was worth the trouble I got into for that little trip~ he thought as he remembered seeing that baby’s face. In fact, most of the employees that worked for the Raschen’s family shipping buisness had faught along side Chance during the last two wars and the various mis-adventures he had in between. ~Tom would make a fine addition to Impetuous Industries in fact~ Chance walked over and sat down on the nearest seat, and waited. (Reply: Matrix, Jackson) (Reply: Matrix, Jackson) (Posted by: Charlie R.) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay – CMO Cmdr Josh Caskie & aCMO Lt jg Tayla Fraiser - Day 6 - 0631) Opening her eyes, a groan escaped her lips as she found herself staring at the sickbay ceiling. “Oh my head.” Trying to sit up, she found herself immediately flung back onto the bed. Raising her hand gingerly, Tayla winced as she found it hit by a forcefield not that far above her. A feeling akin to confusion and terror flew through her as she said, “Hey, anyone?” When no reply came, she began to shake and yelled, “Hey! Someone! Please, what the hell is going on?” Josh, sitting in her office and trying to catch up on the never ending stream of paperwork that crossed her desk caught her screen flash out of the corner of her eye. It had been set to let her know when Lt Fraiser awoke. Sighing she put down the padd she was working on and standing up headed off to the lieutenant's room. Entering she smiled at Tayla and pulling up a chair she sat down beside her checking the status board above the bed. "Good Morning Tayla, how are you feeling?" Looking at Josh, she said, “A little confused. Why am I held down here and where the hell are my clothes?” she asked, pulling the blanket up around her. Suddenly, an image flashed through her mind of Parker looking concerned. She closed her eyes briefly, opened them and looked directly at Josh and said, “What happened?” "We're not entirely sure yet Tayla, but Lt Davis brought you into Sickbay and whilst here you seemed to lose control and attacked him. Kitty had you confined for your own safety and called me in. As for your clothes, I'm afraid you weren't wearing any when you were brought in. However, if you want I can have a nurse bring you in a set of coveralls if you would feel more comfortable. Do you remember anything about what happened?" Closing her eyes, she said, “I remember going to sleep and then....” She paused a second as the memory of what had happened flew threw her mind. A tear ran down her face as she said, falteringly, “I …. attacked.... Parker? Oh god.... I remember.” Gingerly lifting her hand to wipe her face, she looked away from Josh and continued, “Is he alright?” Smiling Josh patted Tayla's hand. "Parker is fine, honestly he is, and you can see him as soon as I am done here if you want. I've ordered a number of tests done and hopefully they might give us some idea of why you acted the way you did, but if you remember anything, no matter how trivial, or..." Josh hesitated slightly..... "how embarassing, you need to tell me." "I'm going to be honest here and tell you that you won't be allowed to leave Sickbay until we get to the bottom of this, but rest assured we will. Now do you feel like having breakfast? I can have Parker bring a tray in with him if you would like something." She nodded. She knew what Josh was refering to but she couldn't tell her. She would have her head for that. Taking a breath, she said, “I suppose if I told you it was just a waking nightmare, you wouldn't believe me?” She smiled a little and then asked, “I think I know what happened but I would like to ask something first.” Josh simply smiled. "Basically no. Given that last comment I am not inclined to believe you at all. However professional courtesy inclines me to at least listen to your request and if it is possible for me to help you then I will. However that is a two way street. At present I am not your senior officer I am your doctor, what you tell me is, as far as I am concerned, at present between you and me." "So, ask your question and tell me as much as you can remember about all of this and I will have Parker come in with a breakfast tray for both of you and something for you to wear." Tayla looked at josh with some trepidation and began, "Do you remember on the holodeck when I left abruptly? Something happened. It scared me, still does. I can feel it, the memories creeping in the back of my mind." she closed her eyes as the images threatened to push forward. A tear ran down her face as she opened her eyes and said, quietly, "I'm scared, josh. " Josh smiled at her. "Yes I do. But I can't help you if you don't tell me. Honestly Tayla there is nothing so bad that you cannot share it with someone who want's to help. I'm your doctor, this is my job, you of all people should know this." She nodded, sighed and said, “I want to say firstly that I know what happened is partly my fault. I understand this and am willing to stand up and admit I made a mistake.” Closing her eyes again, she continued, “I was so relaxed. The atmosphere was amazing and I felt everything. No, before you ask I did not pry, poke or intrude on any mind in there. I let my barriers down. You know the saying, like a moth to a flame? Well, I caught a moth and it was a bad one at that. It drew me in. I couldn't help it. I tried to fight but I just.....” She knew the tears were falling now and she drew several short breaths to try and calm herself. “I'll have to live with what I saw for the rest of my life and the knowledge that I attacked the one man who is ever going to love me so please don't think I don't feel bad about this. You cannot imagine how horrified I feel right now at what's happened.” Josh sighed and pulled a chair over and sat down all the while smiling at Tayla and trying to look reassuring. "Yes Tayla I know you are feeling guilty about what happened but you are a doctor as well as a patient so why don't you act like a doctor and tell me what exactly happened. We're getting nowhere with this runaround that you are giving me. And yes, you are giving me a run around and no, it won't work with me so why don't you just stop it now and admit to whatever is horrifying you. Once you've done that we can work on it, but until then I might as well go help Kitty with delivering Dahlia and Tom's twins. Your choice, you get Parker come and feed you with a spoon because I won't lift Kitty's restrictions or you talk to me. Your choice. You have until the time the door shuts behind me. And I'm leaving now. Goodbye." Rising Josh simply headed toward the door without any hesitation. She thought for a second and then said, “Josh, wait. Please don't go.” She closed her eyes and said, “It was dark. Images of beatings, bones broken and people saying it was because they loved me. But it wasn't me. It was her.” Josh smiled slightly. "Not enough Tayla. Either you come up the truth or I walk away now and you can spend your life talking to Jag. This is me walking out the door now and This is your last chance. No lies or I walk. No waffle or I walk too. You have one chance to give me your side of the story and that is it." Screwing her eyes shut, she said, “It was Lily.” a tear ran down her face as she said, “I saw her, who she is.” Clenching her fists, her breathing began to catch as she continued, “Josh please. You have to believe me. She's ….. oh god, I can't explain it. She's in Jessica, part of her and she scared me. I saw her, in here.” she tapped her forehead and then cried. She was terrified at the thoughts and the images and couldn't hold it in anymore. Tears flowed freely as she spoke, “I was in her mind and I know, i'm sorry. I couldn't help it. It drew me in, she drew me in and I will suffer for it for the rest of my life. I will see those images every time I close my eyes and know that I attacked Parker every time I look in his eyes, I will remember. That good enough for you.” she yelled and turned her head away. Josh finally smiled, Eventually she had got to the bottom of what had bothered Tayla. Kitty had tried to explain most of it without going into much detail and Josh had already decided that Kitty and her were going to have words later. But for now Tayla was her patient and needed treatment. Tayla finally admitting that she had snooped, however inadvertently on Jessica and had paid a price for doing so Looking back at Josh, she said, quietly, “So what do we do now?” Wiping her eyes, she continued, “I know i've let you down and, for that, I am truly sorry. I need help, Josh. Help me?” “Well to be honest we need to take this to the captain. Regardless of what we decide he needs to know.” Nodding, she said, “I understand. Would it be okay if I got dressed first?” She was praying that Josh would let the field up because she was feeling trapped and the images were crawling back. She could tell that she was shaking now as she said, “I'm sorry, i'm so sorry.” Josh turned to the controls and tapping her overide and turned back to Tayla. “You are free now. I will have Parker bring some food in and some clothes, Don't disappoint me by disappearing.” Sitting up, she replied, meekly, “I won't. I can promise you that and thankyou for listening to me.” (Reply no-one) (Posted by Jackie Smith and Marilyn Work) -------------------------- ========================= Mission: The Captain's Cotillion Day: 7 Stardate: 2414.4.16 ======================== (USS Rosenante, Sickbay – JAG Lt Nayeli - 0203) ========================= (USS Rosenante, Sickbay – JAG Lt Nayeli - 0203) Nayeli walked into a quiet sickbay, the graveyard shifts were almost always called dead shifts for a reason.
