"Whatever it takes." he said in an almost threatening tone. Ahmed sighed. "I wouldn't expect anything else lieutenant, but I strongly suggest that you make certain that your level of response is appropriate to the situation at hand. If I find it to be too heavy handed, you'll find yourself before a general court-martial. So my advice to you is that you make certain of your actions before you take them." Ahmed then changed subjects. "On a completely different note, I was going to ask to meet with you on another matter. Since you are here, let's go ahead and address that as well." (Reply Sanok) "I have decided that this ship requires a Third officer. Your service record and your ability to be straight forward with me when needed is very much appreciated. I'd like to offer you the position." (reply Sanok) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, Lt. Sanok, Day 1, 0820) Ahmed sighed. "I wouldn't expect anything else, Lieutenant, but I strongly suggest that you make certain that your level of response is appropriate to the situation at hand. If I find it to be too heavy-handed, you'll find yourself before a general court-martial. So my advice to you, is that you make certain of your actions before you take them." Of course, Captain," said Sanok. Both men had stated what needed to be said. Boundaries and limitations had been established. Lines not to cross, had been drawn. "On a completely different note," said Salid, changing the subject, "I was going to ask to meet with you on another matter. Since you are here, let's go ahead and address that as well." "Yes, sir." Sanok's curiosity was piqued. "I have decided that this ship requires a Third Officer," said Salid. "Your service record and your ability to be straight forward with me when needed, is very much appreciated. I'd like to offer you the position." Sanok had not expected this. Moving upward in the ranks, and possibly commanding his own ship one day, was a long-term career goal, but he had not expected this so soon. "Thank you, sir. I will do my best." (reply Salid iyw) (posted by Bob B.) ---------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Engineering - ACEO Lt Eian O'Neill - Day 1 - 0928) "Apologies everyone. Lets get Lieutenant O'Neill up to speed on where we are on the construction of the event forum for the Captain." said Matrix as Eian came into the main area. "Lieutenant as you likely know the Captain would like engineering to construct the forum where this celebration and event will take place. We're tasked with a vague set of requirements, but the expectations of our efforts are…well likely to be scrutinized for years to come if we don't pull this off." said Matrix. Matrix punched up the drawings on the main screen from the PADD the Captain provided. "As you can see the Captain has some specific requirements for the formal banquet room and I suggested we use holodecks 1 and 2, but the main support pylons literally split the center podium area in half. Our problem is with the podium. In order to maximize the room the podium cannot be moved as to provide the remainder of the room to the guests, holog-band and other virtual servants and amenities." continued Matrix. Eian looked at the specs, and nodded. "I can see the problem, Sir. What would you like me to do?" He asked, not really seeing a way around it. "What I would like is your input on the problem with fitting all of the Captain's requirements. Short of moving this into a cargo bay what do you think?" asked Matrix. "Well..." Eian stared at the display, trying to make the dimensions fit in his head, but failing. His visual mind saw every arrangement possible, and saw that it just wasn't going to happen. "Sir, I think the cargo bays might be our only option." "Perhaps some time with the schematics would help? I don't want to put you on the spot without having the benefit of some time to look over the requirements and the space limitations we have. Keep in mind we'll need a significant amount of holo-imagry to pull this off. The holodecks already have the support matrix in place including power and emitters so the notion of moving this to a larger cargo bay amplifies the work involved just to get the supporting holo-structures in place." continued Matrix. "I understand, Sir," he said, thinking about the problem. He sighed. "It *is* going to be a lot of work to move it to the cargo bays and the holodecks would make it easier. But...if you'll bear with me," he said, and tapped the display, rotating the room with his two index fingers, and then pulling the image inward to zoom, "When we drag these objects into the room in this order," he pulled the 3D objects from the sidebar and dropped them into the workspace, creating a 3D display of the room as the objects snapped automatically into place based on the proximity of Eian's finger to the general area where they would fit, "we find that the central pylon is blocking either the podium, the guests' dinner tables, or, even worse..." he flicked all of the objects off of the workspace and then dragged them over in another manner, "...it would work if we have everyone face the pylon." He smirked. "But I'm thinking most people are going to want to look at something other than a pylon for the evening." (reply Matrix) He shook his head. "No, Sir, I don't think so. But I will check." (reply Matrix) (posted by Morgan G) ---------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Transporter room 1 – ASEC, Ensign Marta Nunez- Day 1– 0929) Marta had reported to the transporter room well before Lieutenant Fraiser had arrived. She was wearing her uniform, but instead of just carrying the sidearm, she was also carrying a phaser rifle. She understood that there were some people on the Asrai home world that thought that Starfleet 'aliens' were responsible for the complete destruction of their way of life. And while there had not been any significant issues with personnel on the planet's surface, Marta didn't want her first trip down to be one of the first serious incidents since the establishment of First Engineer Lindba's term. Tayla stepped into the compartment as the doors to the corridor slid aside to allow her entry and practically bounced up on to the transporter platform, "Ready for a field trip?" she asked with a sense of amusement in her voice. "Yes ma'am, ready whenever you are." Marta replied. Fraiser looked over at the transporter operator and in a tone reminiscent of the captain, ordered simply, "Energize" (reply Fraiser iyw) Daniel Greene -------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 1 - 1342) Parker nodded as he replied, "I understand, Sir, and I think it's very fair." "I'm glad you agree Lieutenant." Ahmed replied seriously, although not with any sternness in his voice. "Sir," he began, "I'm sure you know this about me because you've undoubtedly read my file. But...when I've lost your trust, I've moved into a position I absolutely detest. I spent two years in a place where I had lost the trust of everyone around me, and it took years after that to regain it. The boy I was then would have tried to defend myself and explain to you that I wasn't in control of my actions. But I know that to be false--I know that I've been trained to notice the subtleties of the kind of control an empathic bond can have over a non-telepathic mind, and that I didn't notice speaks to how distracted I was. I recognize that's contrary to what Starfleet stands for--it isn't my job as an officer to be distracted with my own personal life, it's my job to be engaged in the mission and aware of what's going on around me. I'm telling you this to communicate to you exactly how hard I will work to regain your trust. I won't disappoint you, Sir. I'm not promising...I'm telling you...because of who I am, and where I've been, I know that I'm not capable of staying in this position for long. I'll either regain your trust, Sir, or I'll resign my commission in Starfleet." "There's no reason to go to any extremes, Parker." Ahmed replied. "You have not lost my trust, but you did disappoint me. If I thought for one moment that you couldn't be trusted or that you were unfit to wear that uniform, I would personally take actions to see to it that you were removed from Starfleet." He paused a moment to allow that to sink in. What I think is that you will learn from this mistake, and that being an intelligent man and capable officer you will never repeat it and you will always keep the lesson close at heart. We learn from experiences, and a lot of those experiences are brought to us as a result of making bad judgment calls. If we never failed, we'd have no incentive to do better. Both you and Lieutenant Fraiser had an oversight. It was a serious one, but it was not the end of the world. You came out of it better and more experienced than you did when you went into it and as long as you learn from it and never repeat it, then you're still worthy to remain in service." (reply Parker) Daniel Greene ---------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Trade Winds – Adjutant General Marine Command – XO – COL Henry Smith -1407) Smith had been delighted by the offer of the former Privateer Raschen to go out for a drink. It was almost a universal collaboration Marines and drinking. Almost, though those minor few that didn’t usually took their job seriously enough to be some of the best Marines. Hank had a nagging feeling that Raschen was trying to gather some kind of intel on either himself or the reason he was here. If that were the case of not, he would get plenty of the former, and little on the latter. Of course Hank could be wrong. It wasn’t long after stepping in the doors and meeting Mister Raschen that the drinks began to flow and Smith began to recount some of the stories he had accumulated over the twenty some years in the Corps. Some brought laughs from their humorous nature. Other stories brought groans or looks of disgust from certain members of the crowd with weaker stomachs. To Hank, obviously those people weren’t cut out for the Marines. Chance and his conversation was interrupted by some quick comm chatter from one of Raschen’s colleagues. Hank seemed to remember he was the chief of security. =^=Soma to Raschen. =^= over his comm-badge. Chance tapped his badge, and while laughing replied “This is Chance, what’s up Ben?” "Can you meet me in the Trade Winds in half an hour?" “No problem; I’ll be here when you get here.” Raschen said just before he closed the connection and picked up the bottle of scotch. “Well sir, care for a drink of the real thing?” the privateer asked the Marine Colonel. “I was beginning to think that you ‘Fleet types didn’t know how to drink it.” He said smiling. Hank noticed the lack of label on the bottle. “What’s that moonshine? Some homebrewed stuff? I didn’t think the Cap’n would let you make something like that on board.” He jibbed. (Reply Raschen) “No just an observation, didn’t say I wouldn’t take a glass.” He said sliding the glass his way. As Chance poured, the Colonel’s trained eye was scanning the room. He spotted a young junior Ensign escorting a young lady to a table. “His mamma know he’s playing Star Fleet?” He said indicating the young man, not even bothering to hush his tone. (Reply Raschen) “I suppose so, I wasn’t much older when I first said ‘ Hoo-rah’.” He admitted after a swallow of the former privateer’s secret stash. Smith noticed at least three distinct sweet tones to the liquid accompanied by the fierce sting of real alcohol the nice oaky finish was a bonus. “Your mother has good tastes.” He said examining the glass as he swirled the amber colored liquid, and nodded his approval. (Reply Raschen) “Anyway, as I was saying.” He said. He softly cleared his throat before continuing. “No fooling, there we were, Cytose IV deep into Cardassian territory. The mission was to take out a communications relay station. Of course Cytose IV was barely Class L. It was closer to K at the poles for the Cardassians to use it for any kind of habitation they would have had to put up domes, and there weren’t any. So we dropped in several clicks out and had to hump in with packs, weapons and frakking space suits. The planet had a sort of high density radio isotope that interfered with transporters and targeting sensors, but anything on the surface could with a simple grounding rod, enjoy the whole planet’s lattice high-density crystal structure as a natural antennae. The thing could pick up transmissions from the next sector with clarity, so it had to be taken out if we were to get any further in the Cardies’ space. The plan was to jump in me and my platoon, take out the surface to space defenses and mark it with a transport enhancer so a vessel in orbit could target it to take it out. We made good time getting there, ‘bout half an hour ahead of schedule. I was really surprised that we found a demi-company of Cardies waiting for us. Not long after the shooting started breaking out.” He told the story and downed another swallow. (Reply Raschen) “Yeah, the bastards had pressurized tunnels underneath the relay station.” He explained and downed the rest of the glass in one gulp. “They fought appropriately enough like cornered rats. They were just as surprised seeing us as we were seeing them. We gave better then we got, fought them something fierce, but we lost more than we should have, they had the home field advantage.” (Reply Raschen) “Luckily we got the enhancers placed early on in the battle. The Cardies didn’t realize what we were doing until we had the upper hand, when the ship in orbit started hitting the station with phasers and torpedoes.” (Reply Raschen) “In the end the only Marines walking away were me, my Platoon Sergeant, and the new guy who was just assigned to us before the mission. That kid had heart.” (Reply Raschen) (Posted by Todd) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Personal Quarters - 2O-CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma - Day 1 - 2030) After speaking with Chance and the manager of the Trade Winds lounge about setting up a bar and the food selection Ben returned to his quarters to sort out a few more things. He had to inform his parents of his and Marah's upcoming wedding and he wanted to talk with Sanok as well. He accessed the coms array and contacted his mother and father, he was actually surprised to find they were still on Earth. He assumed his father would have shipped out by now, either on a freighter or found one of his own. His mother said she missed him and hoped he would visit soon, his father agreed he should visit soon. They chatted for ten minutes about how everyone was doing, how things had changed and how somethings hadn't. when they had run out of small talk Ben told Ned and Freya Soma that their son was going to get married, his mother cried and his father congratulated him. They wanted to know when the big day was but Ben told them that he and Marah were still discussing dates but as soon as they decided they would let them know. They chatted for another little while, his mother hadn't stopped crying yet. Ned asked when they could expect a grandchild but Ben said it was too soon to tell. Freya stopped long enough to ask for Marah, Ben called her into the room and said goodbye to his parents so they could chat with their future daughter in law. Apparently his mothers crying was infectious because Marah began crying with her as they talked about how beautiful a bride she was going to make. Ben excused himself and stepped into the kitchen to leave then alone. He crossed to the replicator and got a mug of coffee taking several sips, he still had a lot to do in the next few days. Now he had to talk to Sanok, his friend and the closest thing he had to a brother. "Computer locate Lieutenant Sanok." He said. [Lieutenant Sanok is in his quarters] Ben finished his coffee and went back out into the main area, Marah was still chatting with his parents so he moved up behind her and waved to his parents before bending over to kiss Marah's check. "Where are you going now?" She asked. "I'm going to speak with Sanok." He said. "I want him to be my best man." "Good choice." His father said. "He's ok for a Vulcan." "Thanks Dad." Ben replied before crossing to the door. "I won't be long." (USS Rosenante - Outside Sanok's Quarters - 2O-CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma - Day 1 - 2040) Ben reached out to hit the door chime on his friends door, and thumbed the com link. He hoped Sanok wasn't in the middle of meditation. "Sanok, it's Ben." He said. When Sanok had granted him entrance he stepped inside, he grinned at his old friend. "I've got some news for you and a big question." (reply Sanok) "Marah has agreed to marry me." He stated. He looked at his friend trying to guage his mood, sometimes he could tell how his friend was feeling. Sanok occasionally let his guard down around Ben, that was one way he showed how much he trusted him. They had been through a lot together over the years, been in some pretty tough scrapes but they always made it out. "Alright, that was the news now comes the question." Ben teased knowing full well Sanok knew the question before it was asked just as well as he knew the answer before it was given. "Will you be my best man?" (reply Sanok) (posted by Milo Young) -------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sanok's Quarters - Lt. Sanok - Day 1 - 2042) Sanok had spent the majority of the day researching and investigating Ensign Signos. It was difficult, but he had found several confirmed incidents in which she had been involved. They did nothing to make him more agreeable about having her on board. His door chime rang, followed by Ben's voice coming through the comm link. "Computer, open the door," said Sanok. The door slid open and Ben, in quite a good mood, entered Sanok's quarters. "I've got some news for you and a big question," said Ben. Sanok had been reading a PADD. He turned it off and set it on his table, then stood up. "Is everything all right?" "Marah has agreed to marry me," said Ben. "I was wondering how much longer it would take you to ask her," said Sanok, a mischievous glint almost visible in his eye. "It is most agreeable that she said yes." "All right," said Ben, who seemed to be studying Sanok for a reaction. "That was the news. Now comes the question." Ben paused, his face brighter than it was when he first entered the room. "Will you be my best man?" Sanok was familiar with Human wedding customs and rituals, so he understood the honor it was to be someone's best man. Inside, he felt an old feeling from the time he was living with his emotions. "Yes, I will be your best man, Ben." To someone that didn't know Sanok, they wouldn't have seen or heard anything out of the ordinary. Ben, however, knew him well, so he certainly heard in Sanok's voice how it affected him. "Have you set a date?" "I have no doubt that you'll do very well Mister Maddox. If I had any doubts I would not be offering you this opportunity to make everything right again." Ahmed replied. “So, when I succeed in passing the exam, what will happen to me, sir?” a little of the confidence that Maddox was obviously feeling began to creep into his voice. "In accordance for Starfleet regulations, you'll be commissioned again as an officer, beginning at Ensign Junior Grade. You will then undergo the same duty training and evaluation process for a Junior grade ensign until such time as you show that you can be promoted back to the rank of Ensign Senior Grade. from there, how far you go depends upon you." Ahmed replied. (reply Maddox iyw) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante Deck Ops Offices LT Tollian Yallix OPS Day 2- 1905) The operations team had been working since Lieutenant Jackson had advised them that the Captain had required them to clear out cargo bays 1 & 2 for some sort of ship event. While Tollian didn't really understand the need for such frivolities among humans, he had been in the fleet long enough to know that they often did things like this to relieve stress. "Ok folks how do we stand on the cargo shifting?" Jackson asked of the assembled officers. "I have twenty personnel working on clearing out the upper stowage racks as well as disassembling the racks themselves. I do not know that we have enough personnel available to get everything finished unless we are planning on running round the clock and pulling 12+ hour shifts. We're short on AG units, and that means we have a lot of people handling materials using muscle power, which slows us down." "Ok. We can get always get more bodies if we need them from Tactical or Security. Just let me know" Tom responded. I think that's a very good idea. Another dozen would make a lot of difference and if there's any way to commandeer additional AG units that would help even more." Tollian replied. (reply Jackson iyw) Daniel Greene --------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Signos' Quarters - Ensign SG Jessica Signos - Day 2 - 2142) Eian left Jessica's room, Lily fled the the far edges of Jessica's mind knowing quite good and well her work was done. It was in times like this Jessica felt turly alone. Consumed by the emptiness that had consumed her life. She baried her face in her hands and filled them with the tears of hur and sorrow that flowed from her. Something deep with in Jessica the part of her that always told her to do what was right, the part of her that thought Lily could be saved, felt like it was being ripped apart and torn from her. Again Eain had asked her to change for him, to cast Lily out of her life. Even though Jessica would of like nothing better than to accomidate his wish, the simple fact it that she couldn't. Killing Lily would not stop section 31 from creating more like her. Jessica knew the darkness the lied with in her and she knew when the time came, only Lily would be capable of hunting her sisters. If this nightmare was going to end then all of the section 31 project Garden of Eden would have to killed. Jessica could of told Eian this, maybe he would of even understood. Maybe he would of stayed by her side, but Jessica's life was about to get more dangerous than ever, and Eian had been though enough. Jessica refused to hurt him again in such a manner. So she let him go, in fear of what forever might bring. Jessica knew what had to be done when the time came. The question was would she be strong enough to carry this burden till then and carry out the act that she knew laid before her. Jessica knew that Section 31 hadn't given up on there prodical child. ~They will come for me, it's only a matter of time. How much longer will I endager the lives of this crew and this ship.~ The thought crossed Jessica's mind one in a long list of troublsome images. ~Is it really better to be love, and have such love ignored.~ Lily spoke kindly to Jessica. ~ Or is it better to be respected and feared. Those who know the truth about you repect you out of fear. They know what you are capable of, and no one knows that ability best...~ "Quit your chattering..." Jessica screamed at Lily. "I'll never go back to them." ~ You may not have a choice before long.~ "I know that but for know I have a chance to live my own life, to know..." the word caught itself in Jessica's throat, for her love had just walk out door, and there was little chance of anyone ever loving her the same. Jessica knew Section 31 would come for her. Next time they would come in force, and give Jessica no option but to come with her. Jessica knew she was on barrowed time, it seemed either she would cast Lily out and die or be cast out by section 31. Even her life on the Rosenenate was becoming a box that was growing smaller with each passing day. Never allowed to leave in fear that star fleet intelligence and Section 31 would both come after her. It seemed everyone wanted Jessica for Lily wanted her to tear her apart as some kind of living science experimnent and the one person that loved her for her had just turned his back on her. It is in this darkest of times that the most horrible of thought cross ones mind. ~I could end this now, I could stop section 31, stop starfleet intelligence, stop the pain...~ She looked across her room to were her phaser sat. ~Would it really be suicide or would it be considered stopping the monster that exsist with me.~ She didn't even reckonize that she had gotten up from the her possition on the couch and retrieved the weapon, and returned to the couch. ~I can take the secrets of the Signos thread with me to the grave. No one else would have to follow my path.~ Then a voice not Lily's cut though the darkness. ~Then who would be left to find those that have already gone down or who are now starting down that path. This darkness started with in and can only be stopped by you. You must live for the day that you are free of your past and then you can die in peace.~ The pure voice of Jessica's own soul, her turest desieres, hopes, and dreams called to her. Gripped her hand steadied and brought the phaser back to rest with in her lap, at was already on a climb to her temptle and allowed her the serenity to charge the weapon down. It was getting harder for Jessica to see were she ended and Lily started. Her mind was beinging to blur a human mind was never meant to hold two personalities the way hers had, and Jessica was afraid she was losing herself to Lily's madness. She looked over the small table seeing the small project she had started for someone else. She piked up the tools she was working with, and went back to the task at hand. She stiched and with every pass of the needle and tread she chanted softly to herself. "I am not a killer, I am not a killer, I am not a killer..." He also needed to get some sleep eventually, but as he was never truly tired until he had been up for about two days, and since he usually had to 'tell' himself to go to bed, he knew that he was also about to be thrown off schedule by all the rework being done for this event. Matrix laughed out loud at something Peter had said and Eian looked up from his inspection of the bulkhead support joint. "Eian…good work," Matrix said to him. "What do you think of all this fuss?" asked Matrix. Eian sighed and admitted, "Sir, I have to say, I think it's a lot of work for a...dance? Honestly, I'm not really sure what a cotillion is. But I hope we're about done ripping up the ship. How much more work do you think we have to do?" "Well, as much as the Captain wants we do are best to make it happen." replied Matrix. The engineer nodded dutifully and thought he did a good job concealing his disappointment at the answer. But Matrix's response told him that he had given something away. "I think the crews should call it a day. We have some time yet before things need to be polished. Rest and back at it in the morning." said Matrix. "Thank you, Sir. Noting the Engineer's focus on the pile that 'graced' his desk, Visk recognized a fellow Department head - catching up an paperwork was never a fun task, and yet here he was adding more to the man's list. "Commander Matrix, may I have a moment of your time? I'm in need of a little assistance." Visk heard the briskness in his own voice - he mentally calmed himself. ~You are entitled to speak, man! Just relax.~ Matrix cleared his throat and produced a smile, "What can I help you with Lieutenant?" asked Matrix. Visk took a breath and launched into his request, "Mister Matrix, I have finally managed to get the First Scientist of the Asrai to agree to incorporate tricorders into their scientific methods. (reply Matrix, any) (posted by Lori) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 – SO Blake Turner and aCSO Viskhard - 1827) Breathing in heavily, she knelt on the floor and let the emotion of the fight wash over her. Looking around at the debris of battle, she spotted Viskhard and walked over to him and said, "It's a hell of a work out if nothing else." Viskhard had spent his entire quiver and after that had had to grab the blade of a fallen comrade to save his own skin. The point trailed on the blood soaked ground. He was breathing just as heavily as Blake who had come up beside him. "Indeed, I think I will need a trip to Sickbay to work out some of these knots." He was too tired to realize how close she was standing to him. She nodded and said, "The scale of the battle is like nothing else. It's the biggest scene in the whole series of books. You should read them some time." Visk raised an eyebrow, "Perhaps I shall." Visk continued to look around now with a somewhat depressed feeling, and as they made their way through the battlefield, he spotted a familiar face. Down on the ground lay the page who had been so eager to serve, his eyes stared at nothing. Viskhard saw one of his bolts sticking out of a nearby Orc. He pulled it loose and fulfilled his promise. Wrapping the boy's hand around the arrow, Visk whispered, "Here is your prize young one. I am only sorry you will not be able to tell your children of this day." A tear formed in her eyes as she watched him have a tender moment with the young boy. Walking to his side, she knelt down beside the body and gently closed his eyes, saying, "Sleep well, good soldier." Allowing herself a moment, she rose and said, "Well, perhaps we should adjourn to a more relaxed setting. Perhaps to toast the fallen soldiers of Gondor and Rohan?" Visk looked up at her, a position he was not generally used to. He simply nodded and raised himself to his full height. "Ten Forward will be a good place to find some REAL food. I seem to have worked up an appetite." ~Me too but probably not the same appetite you have.~ she thought to herself with a slight grin on her face she replied, "Me too, Sir. Shall we?" "Computer, exit. End programme." Visk gave the two orders and hefted his crossbow on his shoulder as he strode out of the holodeck with Blake. (USS Rosenante - Ten Forward – SO Blake Turner and aCSO Viskhard - 1833) A battle like that will make you loose sight and track of your companions, so they'd spent the majority of the quick trip to the Lounge giving run downs of the battle. As they walked in the doors, Visk hailed one of the servers and pointed at an empty table, who wended his way through the tables with a funny look on his face. The three reached the table at the same time and Visk wasted no time in ordering, "Sem'hal stew with yamok sauce and an Icoberry juice, please, oh and a bottle of Voodai. Ensign?" Visk was always a gentleman and made sure Blake would get what she wanted before the server left. "I'd like a Caesar Salad and a small water." She watched as the server left and the turned her attention back to the man in front of her. Now seeing him properly, she realised his species and withdrew her hand from the table, it being close to his, and said, "So, tell me honestly... what do you think of my programme?" "It is very detailed and very enjoyable, you say you programmed it from a book?" Visk was curious, as he enjoyed books - mostly of the science variety, but he enjoyed a good novel from time to time. Smiling, she nodded and said, "That it is. I have the books. Actual books not on a Padd. Reading is something I enjoy and, I have to say I'm a bit of a purist. I prefer the feeling of turning a page rather than a Padd. Seems more real somehow." Visk chuckled, "I would agree with you save for the fact that if I kept to that sentiment, I would have no room in my quarters and would be sleeping in the hall." His eyes sparkled as he continued, shifting into a bit of humour as he went. "After all, I was raised on Denobula - if not for a personal access device, I would have likely needed several sleeping chambers even as a boy and that was unacceptable. My first-mother often chided me that I read too much." He laughed at the memory and realized that he was on the verge of a monologue. "What about your family? Did they influence yor love of print books?" Visk asked the woman across the table. As he spoke, she allowed herself a good look at the man in front of her. ~How have I not spotted you before?~ she thought to herself and then realised he'd stopped talking. "To be honest, sir. There's not a lot to tell about me. I joined the fleet as a means of escape. My family, don't speak to them much now, were very religious. When I made the decision to join the fleet, they weren't very happy with me." His eyes went to a murky purple, reflecting the sadness he felt on her behalf, "It must be difficult for you not to hear from them. I miss my own family and I get letters regularly." ~Every day in fact.~ Sighing, she said, "Oh yes, I do miss them. But there's plenty to keep me occupied out here. I like to enjoy myself in all aspects of life." As she spoke the server came back with their orders, placing the bottle in the middle with two empty tumblers. Visk smiled at the server, "Thank you, Alisa," to which the young woman smiled back and headed off to the next table that had hailed her. Turning back to Blake he responded. "That is good. Tell me, Blake, what made you get into security? And please, dispense with the 'sir'. We are off-duty after all." Smiling, she took a bite of her salad and said, "It was as far away from my previous life as was possible. That and I have realised that I was a good investigator and have seen some of the dark sides of life. Gives me a great edge when investigating." Visk nodded, "Science has always been a love of mine. I have studied many subjects, but my favourite are the geo-sciences." A raised eyebrow, "Geosciences? You mean rocks?" "Yes, rocks. However, I have studied... let's see..." Visk counted on his fingers, "six subjects within the realm of science. Two I have studied at the masters level and currently am studying three subjects: biochemistry, physics and crystallography." "Holy cow!" suddenly her hand flew up to her mouth as she blushed and said, "Sorry, I apologise about that. That's amazing." Visk laughed straight out, "Not to worry, most people wonder how I manage it. But actually I find it an excellent way to occupy my time when off duty. Denobulans don't sleep much." She smiled and said, "I'd love to learn more about that but I get the feeling that this is a discussion for another time." Visk nearly swallowed his forkful whole at that comment, "Yes, I think so." He flushed slightly and set down his fork in favour of his juice. Placing her fork down, she looked at him and said, "May I be honest for a moment?" Raising an eyebrow Visk nodded, but was unwilling to speak - he was still trying to catch his breath from the misplaced forkful of stew. Smiling knowingly, she said, "I feel like we need to go somewhere to properly relax. I need to get out of these clothes and into something more comfortable. Would you care to adjourn to my quarters for coffee?" Suddenly Viskhard stopped coughing. ~An invitation to your quarters?~ His mind whirred with what she could possibly have in mind, and he was barely able to peep out a "yes" - after all, he didn't want to be rude. (Reply No-one) (Posted by Jackie Smith & Lori Winterhoff) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Personel quarters – SO Ensign jg Blake Turner - 1835) Sitting in her quarters, Blake looked around and sighed. It hadn't been that long since she'd tranfered onto the USS Rosenante and it had been a little boring. No man to keep her occupied, she had resorted to using her holodeck programmes to keep her mind off things. Looking towards the small table in her room, she spotted the ornate broadsword that she had brought with her and a grin spread across her face. ~Time for a little workout I think. You need it.~ She thought to herself as she remembered the trouble she'd had with security bringing the weapon on board. Having to explain the use, weight, material etc had left her drained. Rising slowly, she walked to her wardrobe and withdrew the outfit for the programme she was going to run and the grin widened. (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 – SO Ensign jg Blake Turner - 1855) Walking onto the holodeck, the smell was the first thing she noticed and it instantly set her at ease. The programme was based on an old earth novel, Lord of the Rings. Taking the part of one of the Riders of Rohan allowed Blake to indulge in her other passion, Horses. An accomplished rider, she'd stumbled across the programme a few years earlier and made some minor alterations that had allowed her to participate in the major battle sequences without standing out and ruining the story. The holodeck characters perceived her as one of their own, a male rider of rohan and, a smile grew across her face as she spotted the camp a few minutes walk away from the location the computer had preprogrammed for her entrance. Walking through the woods, she soon became aware of the sound of a skirmish. Metal on metal, she drew her sword from the scabbard and ran towards the sound. Seeing the small group battling a couple of Orcs, she drew the sword high above her head and ran right into the melee. Bringing her sword down on the shoulder of one of the Orcs, she swore loudly as it swung its monsterous arm round and caught her off guard, throwing her into a tree. Landing roughly, she leapt to her feet and ran towards the creature. It's glaring eyes caught hers as it snarled, “You men and your horses. You are no match for the white hand of Saruman.” Launching itself at her, she positioned her sword at waist height and thrust it into the belly of the beast and collapsed onto the floor as it landed on top of her, dead. Wrinkling her nose at the smell, she hefted the creature off her and rubbed her mail down. Suddenly, a noise caught her ear. A snapping of twigs in the undergrowth behind her. Griping her sword, she whirled round and placed the sword at the throat of the man, trying unsuccesfully trying to hide and growled, “Reveal yourself, enemy of Rohan.” (Reply Viskhard) As the man stood, she realised the costume was not one of the Riders with whom she was allied. Brow wrinkling, she replied, “Tell me, sir, what brings you to these parts for these are dangerous times.” As she spoke, she kept her sword steady at the man's throat. (Reply Viskhard) (Posted by Jackie Smith) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 - aCSO Lt. jg Viskhard - 1903) Viskhard favoured leather armour for his holodeck adventures with 'Robin of Loxley' - better known as Robin Hood. His costume was decked out with forest green wool serge, dark brown cured leather combined with a small amount of mail. Visk generally enjoyed playing the part of a minor noble as incensed by Prince John as was 'Sir Robin'. The rest of the outlaws called him Sir Vic. Viskhard was looking forward to his program and tapped the console. "Computer, load Robin Hood program Viskhard 24 beta." [A similar type of program is currently running. Do you wish to override?] The computer was, as always amtter of fact. Curiousity made Visk decide not to override. "No, I will enter into the current program, transfer character knowledge of my player to this program and fill my quiver on entry." ~At least I will remain 'Sir Vic'.~ Visk thought to himself as he hefted the crossbow under his arm. Not knowing what to expect, he cocked it and readied himself to pull an arrow. He'd be ready if ambushed. Visk walked into an idylic forest grove, no one in sight but he could hear sword fighting nearby and - crouching as well as any 6 foot 6 male could - headed that way. (reply Turner) (posted by Lori) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 – aCSO Lt jg Viskhard - 1904) Visk watched the rough battle as he crept through the brush. He thought the clash might hide the noise of his movements and stayed low, but moved to a better vantage point. His crossbow at the ready, Visk studied the creatures with white paint as they snarled nasty things - one in particular hurled epithets at a lone female in the human grouping before she ran him through. Visk felt the twig give way underfoot and mentally cursed himself. ~Robin would have my hide.~ Suddenly he had a fancy, but very deadly sword at his throat. “Reveal yourself, enemy of Rohan.” Visk slowly stood to his full height, "Take that sword away, I am no enemy of Rohan." His training as an outlaw made him hold his tongue beyond that, and while he loosened his trigger finger, he kept it near. “Tell me, sir, what brings you to these parts for these are dangerous times.” As she spoke, she kept her sword steady at the man's throat. Visk tried to respond in an appropriate manner without giving himself away. "My Lady," He spoke with his best chivalry in mind, "I am but a traveller in these parts. I heard battle and came to give help if I could. Now remove your sword." Visk stayed still, keeping his breathing even - the holodeck was one place where he was extremely confident, for he could say anything and it wouldn't affect his daily life. (reply Blake) His eyes wide, Visk brought up his crossbow in a flash and shot, running the shaft through the mouth of the ugly, grey skinned creature. It fell back from the impact with its axe still raised. "What are these things?" Visk exclaimed, now that the battle seemed won. (reply Blake, any) (posted by Lori) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 – SO Ensign Jg Blake Turner - 1906) "My Lady," the man replied, "I am but a traveller in these parts. I heard battle and came to give help if I could. Now remove your sword." Keeping an eye on him, she lowered her sword gently to his midrif and said, “How is it possible you recognise me as female?” He didn't reply but drew his weapon and fired an arrow behind her. Whirling round, her sword ready to strike as she saw the Orc fall to the floor. "What are these things?" He asked. Looking at him, she said, “You travel in these parts and have not seen an Orc. You are lucky.” (reply Viskhard) Looking at him afresh, the realisation of who he was rolled over her. Removing her helmet, she shook her flame red hair out and said, “Sir, forgive my earlier rudeness. I take it you are part of the crew and not the programme?” (reply Viskhard) ~Hmm, he's actually quite tasty, if you forgive the rather comedy outfit.~ she thought to herself. Nodding, she said, “Ensign Turner, Blake Turner at your service.” ~For anything! Stop it, girl. Not on the prowl now.~ she thought to herself. (Reply Viskhard) Smiling, she recognised him and, not holding out her hand, she said, “Pleasure, sir. Tell me do you ride?” (Reply Viskhard) (Posted by Jackie Smith) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 – aCSO Lt jg Viskhaard - 1908) “You travel in these parts and have not seen an Orc. You are lucky.” Visk grinned a little at this, "Truth be told, I don't normally travel in 'these' parts. I seem to have found myself in unfamiliar territory." Recognition flashed across her face. Removing her helmet, she shook her flame red hair out and said, “Sir, forgive my earlier rudeness. I take it you are part of the crew and not the programme?” "I am, as I assume you are." Visk inquired of her as he scanned her outfit. ~I wouldn't want to meet you in a dark hallway when you are angry.~ Nodding, she said, “Ensign Turner, Blake Turner at your service.” "Lieutenant Viskhard, though in my normal holo-programme I'm called Sir Vic," he nodded back at her. Smiling, she recognised him and, not holding out her hand, she said, “Pleasure, sir. Tell me do you ride?” "Passably, though I don't get quite enough practice. Living among the outlaws of Sherwood forest tends to curtail that." He glanced at the men that were goig around to these 'orcs' - making sure they were good and done for. Remembering something she had said before he had to ask, "I take it you have altered the program to recognize you as male?" (reply Blake) "They will recognise me as a human male, I had my character settings transferred from my normal programme. Though it appears the humans here are much stockier on the whole - perhaps there is a different species that would suit me?" NRPG: Visk has deduced that there are more than one species in this programme. Suggest Elven for him. ;) RPG: (reply Blake) One of the riders dismounted and led two horses to Visk and Blake and handed them over. "Sirs," was all he said as he bowed and went back to another companion on the field to see about riding behind. (reply Blake) (posted by Lori) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 – SO Ensign jg Blake Turner - 1910, 1930) "I take it you have altered the program to recognize you as male?" Smiling, she replied, “I have. Although it is a little obvious to those that aren't in the programme.” she winked. "They will recognise me as a human male, I had my character settings transferred from my normal programme. Though it appears the humans here are much stockier on the whole - perhaps there is a different species that would suit me?" Thinking for a second, she said, “Computer, transfer an Elvin male profile onto Lt Viskhaard.” Watching as the outfit changed into one of the woodland elves, she grinned widely and said, “That's better.” ~Oh definitely. He's someone to watch.~ she thought to herself. One of the riders dismounted and led two horses to Visk and Blake and handed them over. "Sirs," was all he said as he bowed and went back to another companion on the field to see about riding behind. Reaching up to take the reigns of the black stallion, she said, “This is Shadowlance. He's the horse I always have when riding in this programme.” (Reply Viskhaard) Mounting her stead, she settled herself in the saddle and said, “Well, I hope you're ready for an adventure, Sir. This programme certainly will give you that.” (USS Rosenante – holodeck 2 - SO Ensign Jg Blake Turner – 1930) After riding for a while, the pair pulled up outside the camp. Dismounting expertly, she took hold of Shadowlance's reigns and said, “The programme builds here. This is the night before the biggest battle in this section. If you wish, we can spend a little time here and I can tell you about the history and storyline of the programme.” (Reply Viskhaard) (Posted by Jackie Smith) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 – SO Blake Turner and aCSO Viskhard - 1911) Reaching up to take the reigns of the black stallion, she said, “This is Shadowlance. He's the horse I always have when riding in this programme.” Visk took the reigns of the Roan that had been the horse of the other man just moments ago. He patted it on the shoulder as an introduction. Mounting her steed, she settled herself in the saddle and said, “Well, I hope you're ready for an adventure, Sir. This programme certainly will give you that.” Visk mounted up and nodded, "Lead on." (USS Rosenante – Holodeck 2 - SO Blake Turner and aCSO Viskhard – 1931) After riding for a while, the pair pulled up outside the camp. Dismounting expertly, she took hold of Shadowlance's reigns and said, “The programme builds here. This is the night before the biggest battle in this section. If you wish, we can spend a little time here and I can tell you about the history and storyline of the programme.” Visk nodded, "That would be agreeable - I don't want to seem out of place." Despite this pronouncement he looked around openly. A young soldier came and took the reigns from him and headed towards a makeshift stable area - presummably to curry the horse. "For starters, you can tell me who I am. I'm not familiar with the term Elven?" Visk glanced at Blake as he continued to look around, taking in the size and breadth of the campsite. "Elves are what you would term as the magical creatures in this programme. You have some powers but mostly woodland. They are peaceful in nature prefering to take the path of enlightenment but can battle and fight hard when it's called upon. They are old, well, older than the men here. You, yourself, sir are dressed as one of the elder of the elves." Visk nodded, the description was an apt one for him. He looked at his garb more closely - softer than the clothes he wore in the Robin Hood scenarios, it was also more muted in tones, a mix of greens and greys. The programme had also seen fit to give his hair a length that would never do in reality, but must fit the character. He reached up and brushed his chin, still covered with his goatee. ~At least that is still intact.~ "So," the scientist in Visk took over, "Who are the Riders of Rohan?" He kept his voice moderately low, loud enough for his companion to hear, but low enough for it to be masked via the low din of the camp. Motioning him to sit next to her, Blake took a seat outside the tent that she used for the programme and said, "The Riders of Rohan are men but these are the horsemen of the programme. "They are a people of herdsmen and farmers who are well-known for their horses and cavalry. Rohan's armies are more of a very well trained militia called upon in times of war, with the actual standing army relatively small. They are armed with long spears, swords, axes, light helms, round wooden shield, and mail armour as you can see." She gestured to the men around them, many of whom were repairing or polishing their equipment. Visk sat on a log near the fire and took his own crossbow in hand, noting the intricate scrollwork that had been added to it. He sensed that the crossbow design wasn't typical of this particular scenario, but that the computer would mold the anachronism into the game. He began working oil into the parts, checking that they were indeed ready for action. He picked out the bolts from his quiver and sighted them, they were lighter than some he had used in the past and had the same make as his weapon now appeared to. "So, we go to war. Tell me about the battle we face." Visk allowed himself to slip into character, sounding like he knew what was coming but allowing another the 'honour' of telling him. Looking at him, she smiled. He was playing the part well and she could see something developing here. They shared a love of horses. "The battle we would depart to, if we allow the programme to play out is one of the fiercest and, perhaps the most important. The battle for Gondor." Viskhard raised an eyebrow at that. "Such an important and terrifying battle. What would make you choose this one?" Looking towards the campfire, she replied simply, "It relaxes me." Visk made himself reply, "I see." Inwardly, Visk was getting more nervous around the woman, but he quelled himself. Beckoning to a nearby soldier - barely a boy and likely a page of some kind. "Bring us some food, and see if you can locate the man who has the last of my bolts." Visk held up the shaft in his hand. "After the battle is won I may let you keep this one, but I need a full quiver." Visk had noted the craftsmanship of the arrows and had guessed aright, the boy was more than happy to do some running around if it meant he might keep such a well made weapon. Turning back to Blake he continued their conversation. "And why horses? A lovely animal-companion you have in Shadowlance, and I rather enjoyed riding the roan, though I don't know that horse's name." Smiling, she replied, "Thankyou. Your steed is named Hemlock. He's a good horse." Realising that the comment earlier about the battle relaxing may have made her sound scary, Blake toyed with her hair a little as she said, "I should point out, sir, my comment earlier about the battle wasn't meant in a bad way. I meant that loosing myself in the story line and battle relaxes me. Allows me to forget the sights I've seen." Visk nodded, "By replacing them with other, rather more graphic ones?" He smiled a little, but kept himself mostly reserved. "I'm not a counselor, Blake, so I won't pry." Visk stared at the fire in his turn. "I like to loose myself in my studies, but no matter." He changed the subject back to the matter at hand. "Tell me more about where we are. How did you come upon this Battle of Gondor?" Sighing, she said, "I read the books when i was small and loved the epic scenes within the battle. It's so mindblowing and has twists and turns in the plot that just make it unpredictable." The young page raced back, with two plates of food and the missing bolt. He smiled, proud of himself. Visk smiled at the boy. "Thank you, find my after the battle and you will receive your prize. Now go - feed yourself." Black curls bobbed and the boy ran back to the cantine area. Visk turned back to Blake once again. "Fascinating, now, tell me more about these Elves. If I am older, how old am I? What makes my group join in this battle?" "Oh that could take a while. It's a long story and just as epic." she smiled and then continued, "One I would be happy to tell you if you have the time?" Visk nodded and settled in to listen to the long tale. Jessica explained. ~Seems simple enough.~ Jessica turned and called to one of the attendants "Asa, can you come over here." "How can I be of service" Asa said and bowed her head politely. The small woman had on an elegant silk robe-like gown, with pictographic images of some avian creature. ~That white bird is probably Terran in origin, but truthfully many different class M worlds have similar creatures, Romulus being one.~ The interesting fact was that the woman’s hair matched V’Nara’s. Interesting because Human natural hair color didn’t get the pure white of an Andorian quality of white until their advanced years. V’Nara mused that either this woman had a genetic defect, or she was well aged. "This is V'Nara Oren, she was just able to arrive, please see to it that she's well taken care of.” Jessica instructed. "Yes Madam" Asa said bowing again, she then turned to Oren. "Is there anything you need, it will be my pleasure to see it done." After the fight and eventual break up with Eian, Jessica felt trapped, maybe she didn't try hard enough to control Lily maybe she should of changed for him. But that didn't feel right to her. She needed the conformation, and she was glad when nearly everyone confirmed her thought on the matter. There were varying reasons and experiences but the general out come felt the same. Lily felt it first being trained in such matters as to when another person entered her mind. Lily had no love of telepath's and for good reason they were an uncontrolled variable and if they were able to put someone like her with the mind of another person they were not to be trusted. Lily knew that there methods to make a mind an dangerous place to a telepath she was trained in such matter in case a telepath would be ever used against her. She made use of that training now. Lily delved into the deep dark memories of her past, starting with how she was trained. How she was beaten till bones were broken, starved only allowed to eat foods that she knew were poised. Not enough to kill but to make one terribly ill. She showed Talya the darkness where she was kept has a child screaming wanting to know what she had done wrong to deserve such treatment. The twisted answer that came was this is how they showed her love that love came though pain, strife and hardship. Next Lily showed Talya how Lily showed her love hunting spy's in the civil war. How she showed those that defied the president that they were wrong. How she removed still beating hearts from her victims. How she put them though such unspeakable horrors that were long since forgotten in the dark ages of man. How she kept them on the edge between life and death for day sometimes weeks on end. They all finally agreed that they were lost, that they had been mislead and the died for there new president. Lily showed her a colony, she showed Talya her greatest moment one that would make her forever wanted in the eyes of the federation. She showed her how innocents died has a poised water supply ate though the populace not able to be stopped because of a failure in the power grid. She showed her the horrors that she lived though. Uncontrollable images of rage and death, until finally the presence was gone. Jessica's relaxing mind had no clue what lily had done. a fact that caused Lily to smile inwardly. Soon Jessica would know but not now. Now she would continue to relax and let her mind wonder and continue to dwell on the man that had left her. Good riddance was all Lily had to say on the subject. Now Section 31 would take what they needed by force. Soon they would know all they needed to know about the Signos strain and how to artificially make it. Soon Lily thought to herself the federation will answer to Section 31 not the other way around. Jessica nodded, "I hope everything is well then." she replied as Talya quickly exited the bath house. It was shortly after this that more attendant came out and came to the girls that remained, one knelled at Jessica's side. "Would you like to be bathed and a message now, my lady?" "Yes, and thank you." Jessica spoke to her attendant. "Also can I get my nails done while the masseuse is working." The attendant nodded. "If that is your wish, I take it you would like the standard blend of oils?" Jessica thought about the question has the attendant helped her from the steaming waters of the pool, and wrapped a warmed fluffy towel around her midsection. "I think something more exotic, daring and sensual is in order. After all the dance is suppose to be something special." Jessica spoke to her attendant. Jessica was shortly lead away to a private wash and message room. The paper partition walls only thick enough to give some privacy yet still allow people to be part of the conversation. Jessica was guided into her room, she looked around and saw most of the other women making similar request and each was soon heading into their own private area to have lives stresses worked out from them. Jessica let her towel drop from her as she laid across the padded massage table. Jessica soon felt strong hand working on her shoulders and back. Expertly manipulating the muscles into a relaxed state, and adjusting her back, spine, and other joints with a popping noise which allowed her body to relax further. Smaller slender hands lifted Jessica holding them softly as warm oil was rubbed into her skin and the treatment on her nails began. She knew it might of been in bad taste for the hostess to fall asleep but that's what she did. ~After all a small nap never hurt anyone, besides this feels to good.~ (reply any in the bath house.) Nayeli had finished reading the files and reviewing her assignment and had moved up to sit in the co-pilot's chair. She was fully qualified to fly, but her rank and position necesitated she get near star treatment. Not a personal aide, but at least a pilot to shuttle her to her new assignment. "No, ma'am," replied the fresh faced youth beside her, "I'm normally on the run to DS9, but I was the next available pilot and when the JAG says jump, you say how high." There was an ease and humour in his voice that Nayeli liked - he'd make a good senior officer and CO down the line. "Ma'am, we are in hailing range of the Rosenante." He glanced over at her, waiting for instruction. ~Let's do this right,~ Nayeli thought to herself. "Hail them, if you would, please." "Aye, channel open." His hands played across the panel like a pro and Nayeli wondered how long he'd been an ensign, but decided to wait until later to ask. "USS Rosenante, this is Lieutenant Nayeli from the Judge Advocate's office, aboard the Runabout Archibald. To whom am I speaking?" (reply any on Rose) "I have orders to come aboard and introduce myself to the Captain. I am," she scanned the panel quickly and got a finger estimate from her pilot, "15 minutes away from you. Can we dock or shall I beam aboard?" Nayeli had learned that JAG had near carte blanche permission to board any vessel - usually they were ordered there and the Captain knew of the pending arrival - so she left that off purposely. It usually shook the juniors when they didn't know what was coming and Nayeli sometimes liked that - made them either more apt to be honest or to make a mistake if they weren't. As the doors slid open to reveal the pavilion that Matrix and his team had assembled, Ahmed couldn't do anything except smile. The room was well appointed, the specifications that he had provided, had been the base models, but Matrix and his team had exceeded those by a factor of ten in the least. The colors had not originally been determined, so they had handled the entirety of the aesthetics that Ahmed had left to their better judgement. After all, his ideas of proper decor would have been more appropriate for a Caliphate's grand palace, than a social gathering on a starship. The holographic band was playing a classical piece of music that he didn't quite recognize, although the type of music was recognizable as belonging to the Vega Colonies. The music would shift a bit throughout the night, mixing a blend of the classical, modern and contemporary from all the various worlds of the Federation. It was a tribute to everything that his eclectic crew had accomplished int he short six years that the Rosenante had been under his command. He was feeling a bit more nostalgic than usual, probably as a result that his ship had never established any sort of annual tradition like so many of the other ships in the fleet. It was a way to honor their fallen, to tell war stories, celebrate families, romances and camaraderie. It was a family event in every way that a family could exist short of the actual mingling of blood. Marriages, deaths, divorces, births, promotions and transferred had been so long a regular part of the Rosenante that it had taken on the nebulous but very tangible aspect of community. He was the elder of his own little village, and the recent mission on Asrai Prime had reminded him of the fact that he was so fortunate to be in such an honored position. Matrix was just making a few last minute adjustments when Ahmed approached him. The Chief Engineer had been with him a long time, dating back to Ahmed's service on the Champlain as her first officer. Among the crew Only Jackson had been with him longer, having served as the Chief of Operations aboard the Nimitz while Ahmed had been her Chief Engineer. "I'm impressed Commander." Ahmed said as he caught the attention of the Chief Engineer. "You have indeed out done yourself." he concluded as he gestured to the expanse of the room. (reply Matrix) "The colors, bar and Dance floor are amazing, and very much what I had in mind. " Ahmed replied, "The Stage embellishment, band and the micro bistro are a novel and excellent addition. I can't tell you how impressed I am." (reply Matrix) "Make certain to give your crews my complements on a job well done." (reply Matrix) "Well you should finish up your project and head out to get changed Commander, we don't want you too late to the Prince's Ball, now do we?" (reply Matrix) "I thought I'd set up the bar for my job as host and bartender tonight. I have been told that Lieutenant Raschen and Lieutenant Sanok both managed to acquire a number of exotic alcohols and mixers for tonight's festivities. In addition we have the uniquely Asrai drinks as well." (reply Matrix) "Oh yes, they have already confirmed.' Ahmed replied with a nod, "They are scheduled to arrive around 2000 hours tonight." (reply Matrix) "Well then carry on Commander. I expect to see you tonight." (reply Matrix iyw) Ahmed turned and headed for the bar. He was looking forward to playing host to the various members of the crew, so much so that despite his religious restrictions against imbibing alcohol, he had been taking classes in the holodeck to perfect his new skill. It helped that his perfect memory allowed him to remember all the recipes of the cocktails that he had studied. It was also a good thing that he was technically adept, since bar tending was overmuch related to chemistry, something the Captain had a passable enough knowledge enough to get by with making drinks for an evening. Arriving behind the bar he prepared to set up his bar so that he could serve drinks. The dress was relatively simple. Sky blue with a crystal motif on the bodice and a nice wide silk skirt. Having managed to keep the outfit a secret from Parker, a grin crept across her face as she imagined his reaction to it. (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays One and Two – aCMO Lt jg Tayla Fraiser - Day 5 - 1908) After saying her congratulations to the happy couple, Tayla began to make her way to the bar. Could I get a small glass of white wine?” (Reply Salid) Accepting her drink, she said, “I should go and find Parker. Ben was glad to see most of the senior staff had already arrived when he stepped into the room with Marah on his arm. She was very excited about the party, she could now see how the crew looked out of uniform gathered in one spot having fun. He crossed to the center of the area and picked a champagne glass and a spoon off of one of the tables. Smiling at Marah he began tapping the spoon on the glass, the sound rang out to fill the room as people began to turn towards him. "If I could have everyone's attention for a moment before the party begins." Ben said loudly enough that he hoped everyone could hear him. He could feel Marah fidgeting a little, another reason for her excitement. They had told a few people about their plans and he was certain that word had spread but for those that didn't know they had agreed to announce their engagement at the party. "First off I want to thank you all for your efforts putting this together," He continued. "you did an excellent job in the short time you were given. Secondly I want to thank you all for showing up, I know a few who were disinclined to attended but did anyway." A few chuckles filled the air, not everyone was the party type and not everyone felt comfortable being in a crowd but they showed up in support of their Captain and that was all that mattered. If they felt like leaving after a couple hours they were free to do so, the Captain wanted everyone to attend but he didn't say they had to stay the entire time. He felt Marah's elbow tapping his ribs. "Lastly," He went on. "I've recently asked this beautiful woman to marry me and for reasons I can't fathom she agreed." A few more chukles filled the room and Marah's elbow struck his ribs a little harder but in a playful way. "You are all invited of course." He said. "The date is yet to be announced but we're leaning towards stardate 2414.8.15. Now, everyone please enjoy yourselves." (Reply: Any) (Posted by:Bill W.) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - CMO's Personal Quarters - MO - Kitty Fisher - Day 5 -1905) Kitty had made sure she was ready early. It wasn't really because she planned to enjoy herself this night, and it wasn't really because she, like Cinderella, only had until midnight to enjoy herself and then she turned back into a doctor again since her shift started then and Josh, fair as she was. although giving her an extra two hours, had not let Kitty off with her shift. Why she was ready early was because she wanted to see Josh's dress before Josh got to the ball. Kitty knew Josh only too well and knew that sometimes Josh took understatement way over the limit. Having asked Josh a couple of days before what her dress was like, and simply getting the answer that it was green, seriously worried Kitty. Kitty prayed for once in her life that Josh would actually pick a dress that suited her instead of the fairly sack like dresses that she usually wore and, as she knocked on the door she sent up a prayer to the Godess that just for once Josh would use the brains that Kitty knew she had and wear something fairly decent. Kitty wasn't shabily dressed herself to be honest. She had picked a simple short, in fact an extremely short white dress that simply wrapped itself around her from one of her shoulders to mid calf and had left her hair down as it's own embelishment, and whilst she knew she looked good, very good in fact, she was still more worried about Josh than anything else, so when the door opened Kitty simply marched in to Josh's quarters and stood still in the middle of the room. "Ok, then, let's have a look at you." Kitty shouted since Josh was still in the other room. When Josh emerged Kitty's jaw all but hit the floor. "Now that is a seriously gorgeous dress. Damn it all to hell you make me look underdressed here. Believe me I won't be standing next you very often tonight." USS Rosenante - CMO's Personal Quarters - CMO Josh Caskie - Day 5 -1910) Josh smiled as Kitty complimented her. It wasn't often that she had the chance to dress up, and she certainly wasn't as brazen as Kitty was, but for once she didn't have to wear the hated white straight jacket that passed for formal wear in the fleet, so this time she had indeed pushed the boat out so to speak and she was happy with her dress. Getting Kitty's aprobation only made her more sure and grinning at Kitty she smiled. "Thank you. I'm glad you approve. Now why don't you just toddle along and cut swathes in our men folk. I'll be along shortly just as soon as Mike arrives. I suggest you go have fun. You know you are dying to. Josh and Kitty shared a quick grin and Kitty finally smiled at her. "Well, if you're going to make it an order, I guess I don't really have much choice in the matter." Josh grinned. "Well I guess I could make it an order if you really wanted me to." "She smiled at Kitty. Do you really need me to make it an order or are you fine by youself?" Kitty grinned back at her. "Oh I'm fairly sure I can find someone thanks." He was amazed at the variety of dresses, uniforms, tuxedoes and other formal wear that filled the general area. Likewise he was exceptionally pleased to see the massive open dance floor begin to fill with couples enjoying the music. The Strains of the Big Band Era on Earth seemed to lend itself well to the festive mood of the event and Ahmed felt in his heart-of-hearts that the event would prove to be a popular annual recurrence. The announcement of the pending marriage between Soma and Neru only added to the festivities of the occasion, and Ahmed joined heartily in the calls of congratulations at the good news. Ahmed had just finished serving a couple a pair of Denebian Slime Devils when he noted Tayla approaching the bar. He made a concerted effort to make his way to meet her as she arrived. "Looking sharp, sir." she commented, regarding his tuxedo. "Thank you Miss friseur. I must say, you look delightful tonight. I suspect that Parker is going to melt like butter once he gets a look at you in that dress." he responded and then to show that he had not meant his comment as a spiteful thing, he added, "Can I get you something from the bar?" She smiled, which in Ahmed's opinion was always a good gin that things were working well between them. "Thank you, sir. Could I get a small glass of white wine?" "Of course." he replied and then retrieved a fine White wine from Italy, and began to pour her a half glass. " But I'm off duty, so you are welcome to call me by my first name, which is Ahmed. If you'd like." He handed her the wine glass, which she accepted happily, " I should go and find Parker." Thank you again." "You're welcome, enjoy your evening." (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 & 2 - CO-Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 5 - 1924) Playing bartender was a unique experience that Ahmed found he really enjoyed, despite his inability to sample the very same wares that he was producing for the crew's consumption. Three times already he had to explain to members of the crew that he was forbidden by religious scripture from partaking in alcohol, but that did not prevent him from participating in the various toasts, salutes and celebratory decrees through the proxy of a glass of orange and pomegranate juice. It was after a particularly enthusiastic round of salutes that Jackson made his way over to the bar. The captain thankful for the respite opportunity that Jackson's arrival provided excused himself from the boisterous members of the crew and joined Jackson at the bar. "Hi Skipper." tom said when Ahmed had arrived. "Good evening Tom. How is everything tonight? Can I get you a drink and something safe for your wife to enjoy?" (reply Jackson) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Cargo Bays 1 and 2 - COUNS Parker Davis and Lt Tayla Fraiser - Day 5 - 1911) I believe your date has arrived, Mr. Davis," he heard, and spun when Tayla tapped his shoulder. He turned and saw his beautiful girl in a flowing ballroom gown, and was speechless. Smiling, she said, "So I take it by the silence you approve?" He recovered his demeanor and leaned in so that only she could hear, and said, "I disapprove, Tayla, and insist that you take that dress off this minute." To let her know she was teasing, he kissed her neck and then added, "Or later tonight would be fine too." She put her arms around his neck and said, softly, "Oh that can be arranged." Leaning in she kissed him softly on the lips and said, "So, Mr Bond, you look damn good in that suit." "Thank you, Madam," he said, and wrapped his arms around her waist. "I regret to inform you that you couldn't possibly be a Bond girl in that dress. Unless you happen to have a bikini underneath?" "That's for you to find out later." She winked. Suddenly, she spotted Signos walking in and froze. She'd figured out that it was something from her that had attacked her in the bath house and it scared her, what images she had been shown had terrorized her sleep last night and she was definitely on edge. Parker immediately noticed the change in Tayla's expression and demeanor, and questioned, "Tayla? Everything okay?" "Hmm, sorry?" she turned back to him and smiled, "Yeah. I'm with you. Why wouldn't it be?" He smiled back. "You just seemed a little distracted and I was enjoying the sex banter," he said, purposely a little too loud, so that he could get the redness in her cheeks as others walked by and probably overheard. Feeding the rumor mill on the ship was not his intention, but there wasn't much he could do about it at this point, so he figured ~hell, why not?~ Hitting him playfully, she said, "Why banter when you can have the real thing?" She knew it was a dirty trick but she projected an image in his mind that would make anyone blush. On cue, his face turned beat red as he tried to push the image out of his mind, but didn't bother to shut that door in the wall they had earlier constructed. He didn't *really* want the image gone. He leaned in and kissed her in front of everyone, to a background chorus of hoots and hollers from their fellow crewmen. Pulling away, she smiled sweetly and said, "Show's over folks." "Let's go enjoy a dance," he suggested, and they started their evening. Jessica noticed Talya from across the room fear obvious in her eyes. Her eyes glanced across Sanok's face to see the suspicion that lied there. She noticed a marine colonel and wondered why he was here this far out in deep space. Jessica knew enough that Star Fleet Command did not send someone of such rank out to the boonies of the galaxy with out good reason. ~ They don't understand, Do they think that they could stop us.~ ~ They don't have to, Lily.~ Jessica could tell that Lily was taken back by her thought, a thought that Jessica would hope keep the troublesome alter ego at bay. She was happy for Talya for her relationship with Parker seemed to be going well. But she was still envious of them both. Why couldn't she be that happy. Why couldn't she find someone who would love her like that, someone who she could share her love with. The crowd parted and she saw Eian on the far side of the room. He had almost resorted to wearing a clip on version of the bow tie, but in true stubborn Ranger fashion had stuck with it until he was very certain that he had finally perfected the infernal neck wear. As a result of this stubborn streak he had become what some people would call fashionably late. He only hoped that some people included his date. After all, everyone knew that normally Josh did not like to be kept waiting for anything, and he wasn't normally late when they decided to do something together either. Considering that Fraiser may have misinterpreted his tone, he added, "How are you this evening?" Fraiser gave him a friendly smile and asked if they could sit. It seemed she needed to ask him something important. Sanok couldn't think of what it could be, but if it was of such importance, why didn't she come to see him sooner, instead of during the festivities of the formal gathering? He motioned towards an empty table away from the main group of people. The work and effort that Matrix and his Engineering teams put in to make it this in as short time, was nothing short of phenomenal. She was thinking of just the mechanical aspects because it was widely known that she didn’t have an eye for the aesthetic. She also noticed that because of the notice she got from the newly arrived Marine Colonel that was co-signed by the Captain, she was one of the only individuals here in her uniform, COL Smith being one of the others. Still practically in the threshold of the cargo bay she scanned the room. She noticed of the substantial part of the crew that was here, most of them enjoying themselves. The smiles displayed on their faces was the evidence. T’Larah also noted that Doug was here as well. True to his announcement to her of his transfer to the Marines, he was also here in dress uniform, but it was a Marine one. She noticed that COL Smith was carrying a dark wood baton-like implement in the crook of his arm, constructed of a smooth mahogany or other dark wood with a highly polished brass tip. This gave a pseudo-Patton quality to his presence. This was the second time T’Larah had seen the Colonel. The first was a solo-mission she was given to Andor. There she found a century old Emergency Subspace beacon once activated it alerted the cloaked ship carrying Smith to her location, he transported in shortly after. T’Larah finally stepped in and the doors closed behind her. She made an even pace toward the bar. She noticed that Masters had noticed her as well. He began a bipedal intercept course and would arrive about the time she arrived at the bar. “Good evening Captain.” She said arriving slightly before Masters.
