Steve Matrix - Day 3 – 1158.7) Matrix was pondering the new mission. Rumors surfaced as they always do when new orders are abruptly issued. The ship was running smoothly, the refits and various repairs went well and the crew turned its attention to the new mission, preparations for the usual and eventual voyage routines. Matrix loved the low rumble ship vessels made while underway. Starships had their own, special sounds and nuances associated with almost systems. Even a sister ship made in the same shipyard had its own unique sounds. While under warp power the low frequency rumble of the warp field as it interacted with space and the ships hull was constantly audible. Off-Landers got used to this sound and only took notice upon reflection or if it was absent. Most engineers could discern between three or four levels of warp power and the experienced could nearly tell the exact warp speed without referencing a warp display or looking out a view window. The very best engineers could tell if a warp core was out of balance. Some starship execs and captains could do the same. The refit and repairs made those familiar sounds unfamiliar again. Something every engineer hated, but had to endure. As Matrix reviewed the mission notes, Commander Caskie’s voice came over his combadge. =^= Caskie to Rixx, Matrix, Ichijo, Lopez, Benoit, Remey and Rosenbauer, please assemble in Shuttlebay One. Mr Rosenbauer please have your Rangers meet us there too. Caskie out.=^= “Aye Commander, Matrix out.” replied the ACEO. Matrix grabbed a small premade mission pack and slung it over his right shoulder, placed is ever present PADD in his left hand and headed to shuttle bay 1. (USS Rosenante - Deck 13, Shuttle Bay 1 - ACEO Lt. Steven Matrix - Day 3 - 1202) Matrix trotted out of the turbo lift and entered shuttle bay 1 to see a small group of people already assembled. Matrix adjusted his mission pack and joined the group awaiting instructions. He smiled and nodded in kind as a few crewmembers noted his entrance, likely expecting to see the Commander or a designated mission lead. (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface, Specialist Sarah Parker-Redmond - Day 3- 1257) Sarah was chatting with the newly arrived federation officers. It was both invigorating and refreshing to be able to talk to someone other than the members of the survey team. It was the main reason that she had selected to remain behind at the base while the others continued on to survey the site. "Hello." A middle aged man named Jackson said as he was introduced by the Lieutenant in command of the away team. "Hello tom." she said in reply, smiling a little bit and allowing her cheeks to pinken slightly under his gaze. He wasn't a bad looking sort and he most assuredly had a nice smile. The discussion continued on for a few more minutes with Xim giving out a few orders and sending the other officers about their tasks Sarah, caught the lieutenant's eye once more before leading some of the members of the away team to the Hab module. (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface, Specialist Sarah Parker-Redmond - Day 3- 1340) The away team from the Rosenante had been working pretty solid on unloading materials and helping to check out the medical equipment in the medical Hab unit. It was an amazing thing to watch so many people working towards such a well coordinated goal after such a long time on this planet with only three other people for company. Sarah stepped out of the Hab and into the stark harsh orange of the Xegan sunlight watching with interest as the members of the away team went about their business with a fervor that set them apart from the other crews that had visited the small survey site in the past. Those other crews and Captains had been more interested in just getting done and leaving the survey teams to reorganize and sort through the mess once they had left. This sort of work was anything but glamorous and it seemed that these days more Starfleet officers were really more concerned about the adventure that they could get elsewhere rather than the history of a dead planet like Xega. Lieutenant Jackson was speaking with some additional crew that had ridden down on some of the shuttles from the Rosenante. He seemed almost patriarchal, in a sort of endearing fatherly sort of way, at least where the members of his ship's compliment were concerned. His blond hair stirred just a little in the thin atmosphere from time to time, revealing his rich blue eyes whenever he brushed the errant locks from his face. He was handsome and it seemed available and Sarah had been cooped up on this rock with men much too old for her for far too long. She could feel a distinct attraction to the man, a careful concern in his voice a clear sense of purpose and she found it appealing. She smiled to herself and set of towards the younger man. She timed it so that her arrival was perfect. The lieutenant was free of interruptions and would be able to devote his entire attention to her. "Uhh.. Excuse me. Tom.." She said just loud enough to be heard. (reply Jackson) "I was wondering if you could give me a hand with something... It seems that there might be a problem with the EMH program. I think the holomatrix may be degraded or something. You seem like a smart fellow, I was hoping you could give a girl a hand?" (reply Jackson) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Xega III Surface- CSEC- LT Chance Raschen- 1305) About half-way between the Hab and the Runabouts was a woman. she was wearing a blue duty jumpsuit, topped with an odd bluish-orange coloring, which meant that she was either medical or sciences. She seemed to be moving effortlessly across the expanse and would meet up with the away teams soon enough. "Hello." She said as she approached. Her red hair was even redder under the strange lighting offered by the local sun. "I'm Sarah, Mission Medical Officer and Xenopaleobiologist and botanist." "I am Lieutenant Xim from the USS Rosenante. This is Lieutenant Raschen the security Chief, and Ensign Rosenbauer one of our security officers." Mike nodded at her. "Nice to meet you." Sarah Said. Chance just nodded his head and simply said "Ma'am" in that Texas drawl of his and a lopsided smirk on his face. "Doctor Toenkampf and the others are at the new site presently. They should be back before sundown. Please won't you join me at the Hab. We can talk and discuss what we need to get started first." Xim smiled. "Of course." The tall officer turned to Raschen, "mister Raschen please put the away teams on task and make arrangements with mister Jackson to begin the transfer of materials and supplies from the Rosenante. " "Roger that" the Security Chief said as he motioned for Rosenbauer to follow him. Chance then tapped his comm.-badge "Away Team Section Leaders, this is Raschen. We have been given the green light to start work; you know what needs to be done and what our deadline is so let's make it happen. Any Questions?" (Reply any that wish) Once Chance got the work projects started, he then turned to Mike "I need to give you the same memo that I gave Nunez." (Reply Rosenbauer iyw) "I want the two of you to work together in setting up a perimeter, scout the area, and then report to me. I don't care how you two do it, but do it together alright.?" (Reply Rosenbauer) Once that conversation was over, Raschen released the Ranger to return to his duties befor tapping his badge "Jackson, this is Raschen; give us about a half hour and then start shuttling stuff down here." (Reply Jackson) (Reply Rosenbauer, Jackson) Charlie Raschen ------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Xega III Surface - CSEC- LT Chance Raschen- 1306) Tom walked to Chance and asked him if he could spare a few folks to begin the unloading process. Chance just smiled as he replied “Sure, but until the security perimeter is established I can only spare me, myself, and I though. I suggest we also grab anyone standing around twiddling their thumbs and get them to help out.” Chance then tapped his badge “Rosenbauer, Nunez; once the perimeter is established and secured I’m gonna need you to send me your main weapons wizard to help me on these weapons systems.” (Reply Rosenbauer, Nunez) Once Raschen closed the communiqué with the two security squad leaders, the two department chiefs pitched in with the unloading - awaiting Lt Matrix's arrival. Once the shuttles were unloaded, he asked the group “So are we gonna try and do this whole project at once, or one department at a time?” (Reply Jackson, Matrix, any) (Reply Jackson, Matrix, any) Posted by Charlie Raschen ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface- SO Ensign Mike Rosenbauer- 1307) "Roger that" the Security Chief said as he motioned for Rosenbauer to follow him. Chance then tapped his comm.-badge "Away Team Section Leaders, this is Raschen. We have been given the green light to start work; you know what needs to be done and what our deadline is so let's make it happen. Any Questions?" =^= no questions, sir, we're ready to get started.=^= came the reply. They moved a few meters away and then Chance stopped and regarded Mike for a moment before speaking, "I need to give you the same memo that I gave Nunez." "Okay, shoot." Mike replied. "I want the two of you to work together in setting up a perimeter, scout the area, and then report to me. I don't care how you two do it, but do it together alright?" Mike gave him a nod. "Not a problem lieutenant. Contrary to popular belief Rangers and marines work pretty well together when they aren't trying to kill each other." Raschen nodded then dismissed the Ranger to carry out his orders. (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface- SO Ensign Mike Rosenbauer- 1325) Mike had just finished speaking with Nunez and her marines, comparing notes as it was to see where they were in the process of handling their sector of the perimeter. Things were completed and the Ex-Starfleet Ranger was heading back to report that the perimeter was set and that all was well. He found the Security chief assisting the Chief of operations with the unloading of materials from some of the runabouts. It was one of the things that most of the security staff liked about Raschen, his ability and willingness to lend a hand and do some grunt work from time to time. Mike agreed that it was a good trait to have. It made it easier to be a good leader. "Lieutenant Raschen." Mike called as he got closer. "I have your perimeter report, sir." (reply Raschen) Mike watched as the security chief turned and headed for his position, just a few yards short of the supply depot. "Nunez and I have completed our security sweep and our perimeter is secured at 600-meters. There's really nothing to report beyond that. This place is pretty desolate and other than a few small flying mammals and some insects as well as a few hardy species of non-poisonous plants, it's dead." (reply Raschen) Before mike to reply Xim joined them with a quick word. "Mister Raschen." he said. (reply Raschen) "I want you to take Lopez, Matrix and Jackson and head to these coordinates." he ordered as he handed Raschen a PADD. I was just informed by commander Sullivan on the Rosenante that there was a power spike of some sort near there. That also happens to be the coordinates of the site where Doctor Toenkampf and the rest of the Archeological team are located. Attempts to hail them have been unsuccessful. I need someone to investigate. Take a couple more personnel if you need to. Find out what's going on and report back as soon as you can." (reply Raschen) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - CO Captain- Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 3- 1336) Ahmed sat in the center seat on the bridge, his eyes taking in the details of the desolate sphere of Xega III. The satellites that the y had brought along were almost ready to be launched and the captain was pleased to see that his crew were putting everything together quickly and efficiently with a minimum amount of interference from him. Sullivan had thus far not reported anything that could be considered a threat to the Rosenante and his crew and the science department was closely monitoring the star's radiation output, just to be certain that everything was tolerable for the archeological team as well as the away team. His attention was captured by the sudden alarm sounding behind him. He rotated his chair to face Sullivan who was monitoring the tactical station, from which the alarm had sounded. "What do you have commander?" he asked, knowing that his question was more of a formality than a requirement. "It's an unknown energy signature, sir, from the planet. It is in close proximity to the away team." she reported. "I'm hailing now," she said as the communication line was opened, " Rosenante to away-team, there is an unknown energy signature in your vicinity, please report your status." =^= Xim here, Rosenante. All is well. We are conducting the repairs and replacements. Is there a serious problem?=^= (reply Sullivan) =^=Understood. I'd like to send some personnel to check it out. Do we have enough surplus energy to power transporter room two as well?=^= ~We should, but I don't know for sure.~ "Stand by." she said and muted the channel. "Do we have enough power with out pulling on reserves, auxiliaries or starting up any reactors. To run everything?" she inquired. (Reply OPS) "I had to ask." she replied and turned the audio back on, "Yes chief you may activate another transporter room and put personnel in it. Keep both running indefinitely, until the bridge says otherwise or until the away team comes back aboard. Contact engineering with the names of who will take the first shift, and the senior officer there will construct a duty roster." =^=Understood bridge. Transporter room out.=^= "I will inform you, sir when the satellites are ready for launch." she said to the Captain. (Reply Captain Salid, OPS) (Posted by Todd) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Xega III Surface- CSEC- LT Chance Raschen- 1338) "Lieutenant Raschen." Mike called as he got closer. "I have your perimeter report, sir." “Alright, give me just a sec and I’ll be right there.” Raschen said as he started moving another box out of the shuttle. Once he set it on the ground, the Security Chief turned and headed towards Rosenbauer’s position, just a few yards short of the supply depot. “Report” Chance simply said as he stretched out some of his muscles as he listened. "Nunez and I have completed our security sweep and our perimeter is secured at 600-meters. There's really nothing to report beyond that. This place is pretty desolate and other than a few small flying mammals and some insects as well as a few hardy species of non-poisonous plants, it's dead." As he started to look into the distance Chance said “I doubt it is; a place like this is a great hiding spot for pirate dens.” Then focusing back on the former Ranger he asked “have y’all started building positions yet?” Before Mike was able to reply, Xim joined them with a quick word. "Mister Raschen." He said. Chance spun around at the sound of his name and, in an attempt to be funny, held his hands up as if he were being arrested and said “Here; one each.” Then on a more sober note, as Chance lowered his hands while speaking, saying “What can I do for you?” "I want you to take Lopez, Matrix and Jackson and head to these coordinates." he ordered as he handed Raschen a PADD. I was just informed by Commander Sullivan on the Rosenante that there was a power spike of some sort near there. I need someone to investigate. Take a couple more personnel if you need to. Find out what's going on and report back as soon as you can." Raschen just nodded saying “Roger that”. Then turning to Rosenbauer “Don’t go anywhere Ensign”. Then tapping his comm.-badge because he didn’t feel like yelling “Lopez, Matrix, and Jackson; could you come join myself and Rosenbauer, it seems we have been given a mission.” (Reply Lopez, Matrix, Jackson, Rosenbauer) Once the other three joined Chance and Mike, Raschen explained to them what Xim had explained to him what Sullivan and the skipper wanted them to do. Chance finished the brief with “Well, you now know what I know. So unless there are any questions or comments; y’all got 5 minutes to gather what gear you need and meet back here before we move out. Any questions, comments?” (Reply Lopez, Matrix, Jackson, Rosenbauer) Posted by Charlie ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface- SO Ensign Mike Rosenbauer, Day 3- 1339) Raschen just nodded saying "Roger that". Then turning to Rosenbauer "Don't go anywhere Ensign". Then tapping his comm.-badge because he didn't feel like yelling "Lopez, Matrix, and Jackson; could you come join myself and Rosenbauer, it seems we have been given a mission." "Aye sir." Mike replied and waited for the others to arrive. Once the other three joined Chance and Mike, Raschen explained to them what Xim had explained to him what Sullivan and the skipper wanted them to do. Chance finished the brief with "Well, you now know what I know. So unless there are any questions or comments; y'all got 5 minutes to gather what gear you need and meet back here before we move out. Any questions, comments?" "None for me sir." (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface- SO Ensign Mike Rosenbauer- 1633) Like the others Mike had walked to the coordinates that had been indicated by the Rosenante as being the source of the sudden power spike that they had registered and like the others what he saw was a whole lot of nothing. Bupkiss, Nada. Zero. Zilch. Apparently he wasn't the only person to feel that the situation was irritating because Chance had started walking in a small circle as he took a good look around. "Steven, Mike I want you two to scout and scan the area for an entranceway of some kind in the ground." "You got it." mike replied and He and Lieutenant Matrix split up and headed in opposite directions. He hadn't walked very far when suddenly there was a deep rumbling under the ground and the entire area shook with a violence that threw mike to the ground. In the distance, maybe a thousand yards away the ground began to bulge upwards and crack. This continued for a few moments, and mike tapped his commbadge. "Rosenbauer to the away team, we have something happening here, some sort of seismic activity." Then the ground cracked open and a massive matte black cylinder began to raise itself upwards from beneath the surface of the planet moving rapidly skyward. "Correction, we have some sort of... I don't known monolith that just broke through the ground and is raising up, getting taller." Mike turned and he noticed another one in the distance, then another beyond that. "Actually I see at least three more. I suggest that we get clear right away." (reply Any on Away team) "Understood" Mike replied, then turned to hot foot it back to the rest of the team. (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface- SO Ensign Mike Rosenbauer Day 3- 1350) Mike and the team had been walking back towards the archeological site, when they had run across the rest of the missing team. They had gathered them together and called for one of the shuttles to come pick them up. As they sat watching the various deployments of some of these massive monoliths, Mike couldn't help but wonder exactly what was happening. The Archeologists had admitted that they had found some sort of ancient machine, but they had denied touching it. Perhaps their presence had somehow activated the ancient device. Mike squinted up into the red-orange sky and focused on the distant point of one of the massive cylinders. It was glowing, drawing some of the radiation from the sky of the planet and drawing in massive amounts of power. The thing was scary to look at, especially when you considered that they could see dozens of them from their current position. All of them doing the same thing. In the distance a Runabout was coming in for a pickup. Xim had ordered the planet evacuated until they could determine what was happening and had sent a shuttle to pick them up. The craft settled down gently a few hundred feet away, kicking up a light dust cloud as it did so. Bright orange-red flashes of lightning were now flashing between these massive pillars that were miles apart. It was going to be a trick getting the shuttle off the planet. As the crew shuffled into the shuttle and took their positions, Mike prayed that they could get the ship safely off the planet. ~I sure hope Tom and Sam can fly this shuttle pretty well.~ he thought (reply All on the planet) Daniel Greene -------------------------- (Xega II, sickbay module, ACMO Ensign Sam Lopez- Day 3 - 1342) Sam had been putting away supplies when his badge chirped =/\=Lopez, Matrix, and Jackson; could you come join myself and Rosenbauer, it seems we have been given a mission.=/\= Sam tapped his commbadge in return."I'll be right there sir"Sam said as he headed outside. (Xega II, Xega II surface, ACMO Ensign Sam Lopez- Day 3-1347) Once the other three joined Chance and Mike, Raschen explained to them what Xim had explained to him what Sullivan and the skipper wanted them to do. Chance finished the brief with “Well, you now know what I know. So unless there are any questions or comments; y’all got 5 minutes to gather what gear you need and meet back here before we move out. Any questions, comments?” Sam had no questions and waited as everyone else asked there questions. Then he got his tricorder and kit waited for the group to head out. (reply: None) (posted by: Bill) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Xega III Surface- CSEC- LT Chance Raschen - Day 3 - 1630) Chance led the group with Rosenbauer on point toward the coordinates given to them by Xim. With the heavy winds, it was difficult to stay on course. When they finally arrived at the coordinates the area looked desolate. Lay to waste desolate in fact as if from the fallout of some horrible and long forgotten battle. Then memories of fields that he had seen after battles during the wars he had been in started rushing into his head. Raschen turned around in a full circle and just looked; shaking his head as he sighed. Then under his breath he muttered “What the hell are we doing here?” Then towards the others he started giving directions “Steven, Mike I want you two to scout and scan the area for an entranceway of some kind in the ground.” (Reply Matrix, Rosenbauer) “Doc, if you would start scanning for any signs of life.” Chance said. (Reply Lopez) Then turning to face Jackson “Contact Xim, let him know that we have arrived at the prescribed coordinates, and that it’s a desolate wasteland. Tell him that we are scouting and scanning the area.” (Reply Jackson) After Jackson closed out the communiqué with Xim, Raschen asked “Well Tom, what do you think?” (Reply Jackson) “I don’t know what it is about this place, but something just doesn’t feel right. These scientists go all this time without an incident and then no sooner we show up ‘Sha-Zaam’ they have an incident. I don’t buy it.” (Reply Jackson) With an unconvincing smirk, Chance tapped his comm.-badge “Rosenante this is Raschen over.” (Reply any on Bridge) “Have V’Shera prepare a team to come down to my location to back us up if need be. Be advised that with other support craft being used for the habitat mission that they may need to use the Captain’s Yacht. over” (Reply any on Bridge) (Reply Matrix, Rosenbauer, Lopez, Jackson, any on Bridge) Posted by Charlie ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Xega III Surface, ACMO Ensign Sam Lopez- Day 3-1632) The group had been walking for over an hour and had finally reached the end of their long trek. The area seem to be more desolate and empty at this location. LT. Raschen looked pale for a moment and then started giving out orders. “Doc, if you would start scanning for any signs of life.” Chance said. "I'll get right on it,sir"Sam said as he took out his tricorder. Sam was not picking up any other lifesigns, but the group lifesigns. Then the tricorder started registering some very faint lifesigns coming from underground. Sam went immediately to tell Chance what he had found."lieutenant i have found the lifesigns of what appears to be the archaeological team some where underground, but they are very faint." (Reply by Raschen) (posted by shawn) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Xega III Surface- ACEO- LT Steven Matrix - Day 3 - 1633) Matrix was calibrating his tricorder and cinching up his pack for the trek ahead. Lieutenant Raschen was visually scanning the surroundings. ³Steven, Mike I want you two to scout and scan the area for an entranceway of some kind in the ground.² said Raschen. "Aye Lieutenant, tricorder has been calibrated for this environment. We should be able to locate any structural entrance." replied Matrix. Ensign Lopez was quick on the draw with his tricorder. Matrix overheard something about faith readings, but his tricorder was not registering anything in the immediate scan area. Matrix adjusted his calibration routine further. "Lieutenant...I can't confirm life sign readings, but there are sporadic energy readings in the general area Ensign Lopez has indicated. My readings are inconclusive, but I think worthy of a closer look." added Matrix. (Reply Rosenbauer, Raschen) (Posted by Steve) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface- ACEO Lieutenant Steven Matrix - Day 3 - 1634) Busy looking over his tricorder, Matrix didn't notice anything unusual...either on the readout or visually. There was simply nothing in the area. Ensign Rosenbauer sounded frustrated,"Steven, Mike I want you two to scout and scan the area for an entranceway of some kind in the ground." Matrix nodded in agreement and started his own scans. The tricorder registered the seismic activity a few moments before Matrix felt it in his legs. "Something is moving under the ground...heading toward the surface!" exclaimed Matrix. Matrix watched with amazement of the monolith coming up from the ground. The tricorder readings were spiking with tectonic and energy activity. A number of these surfaced as far as Matrix could see. The ground continued to rumble then die off as quickly as it had started. "I think we'd better get out of the area before we're swallowed up by something or crushed." said Matrix. (reply any, none) (USS Rosenante, Xega III Surface- ACEO Lieutenant Steven Matrix Day 3- 1651) The teams reassembled as they made their way back to the archeological site. All hoped for the shuttles to arrive soon so they could get off this rock and away from whatever they had just encountered. There was little discussion among the team members, but it was obvious everyone was tired and in wonderment of these monoliths. Matrix was sitting on the ground resting and noticed Ensign Rosenbauer looking up at the sky, no doubt at the monoliths in the distant. Matrix wondered too what they were for, what their composition was and what made them tick. Matrix's eyes noticed the faint glimmer of a runabout descending toward the team. Within a few moments it appeared in full view and preparing to land near the assembled teams. As the shuttle settled down Matrix stood up and looked over at Ensign Rosenbauer, he surmised what the ensign was thinking. "Don't worry ensign...we'll get off this planet one way or another...I'm a pretty good pilot myself." Matrix patted the Ensign on the shoulder and stepped toward the shuttle. (Reply Raschen) "I will have V'Shera report to you and give you an ETA." she responded. (Reply Raschen) With Raschen closing the channel on his end, T'Larah opened another with a finger touch on the command pad. "Bridge to Ensign V'Shera." she said. The sudden appearnce of the monolith's reminded Jackson of an old Earth video called 2001 - A Space Odyssey.Tom was not much for surprises and mysteries. Tom agreed with Mike Rosenbauer's idea of getting out of the area ASAP."I'm heading back to get the shuttle ready to get out of here" Tom said as more monolith popped up. (reply: Any in the Search Team) Tom opened the Cervantes access door - on his way in he shouted to Sam Lopez " Sam - let's go - I need your help NOW" and settled into the pilot's chair and began the emergency lift-off process. (reply: Sam Lopez) Other were piling into the shuttle - these included the Archaeological team and his crew mates. The lightning was increasing and Tom was worried. "Okay everyone, this is gonna be very bumpy strap in and hold on" (reply: any in shuttle) "Sam, contact the Rose and let them know we are hauling A** now" and returned to the systems. (reply: Sam, any) Tom had taken the precaution to re-route power to she shields and Inertial dampeners. The shuttle lifted off, buffeted by strong winds lightning strikes. The ride out reminded Jackson of a roller coaster. Sam headed towards the shuttle when he heard Jackson say" Sam - let's go - I need your help NOW" Sam sat down in the co-pilots seat as everyone else was filling up the shuttle. Jackson told everybody to strap in because it was going to be a bumpy ride. Sam was then told to contact the Rosenante. Sam opened a channel "Rosenante this is the shuttle Cervantes we are lifting off and heading back to the Rosenante." (Reply by Rosenante) (posted by shawn) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Xega III, sickbay module, ACMO Ensign Sam Lopez- Day 3 -2350) Sam was just about to finish his shift when his mind started to wonder. This day back on earth would be known as Christmas eve and a day to be with family. Sam at this moment in time only had one brother who was born just before his parents had died in a transport accident. His brother shawn was currently a first year cadet at the academy studying how to be a starship commander. which is something that was still very distant from his grasp. Sam had not spoken to his brother in many months. So Sam decided to record a message to his brother. Sam found a comm station in a empty room and started recording a message."I am recording this message to tell you that i miss you and that this is the first Christmas that we have spent apart. I would contact you directly, but we are out of range of any communication enhancers so real time communication is out of the question right now. I just wanna wish you a merry Christmas and i hope to see you again soon. And make sure that you contact me as soon you can."Sam said as he ended the recording and sent it to the Rosenante to be sent to Earth. Helping him work on the habitats weapons systems was a former Marine, an Andorian male nicknamed Marc, and a former Ranger, a Betazoid female named Sierra. “No sir, this is another one totally shot as well.” Sierra explained as she started whipping her hands on a rag. “Sir, I hate to say it” Marc ventured “but the captain needs to be informed.” “I know… I know…dang-it…” then the Security Chief lowering his tone of voice. Tapping his comm.-badge Chance started “Jackson, this is Raschen; we got a serious problem here.” (Reply Jackson) “My team and I just T.I.ed ten of the Phaser-banks, and these things are so jacked-up we won’t be able to cannibalize them together to get one functioning well enough to SLEP. It had been 2 days since he left the Rosenante for the surface. It wasn’t that the hospitality or facilities were insufficient for the former privateer; they were very good in fact. But let’s face it; there is nothing in the universe like sleeping in your own bed, right folks? He felt lucky to have caught a nap on the shuttle ride back to the ship so he wouldn’t fall on his face on the walk to his quarters from the shuttle bay. Once Chance sat down, it just so happened to be behind his desk where he noticed a flashing light indicating the receipt of a message. The Chief of Security was taken aback when he read were the message originated. It was from T’Lela on Geneva Station. A message from a beautiful woman that he genuinely was interested in; of course he opened it. Looking at the face speaking on the terminal, it seemed strange yet familiar at the same time. It wasn’t the same woman he married, but was all at the same time. Granted the T’Lela he was looking at was a living, alternate version of his late wife, but for some reason he felt a very strong connection with her. He often felt awkward whenever he thought romantically of the woman he was watching as she spoke; the best way he was able to describe the situation to himself was like dating his late wife’s twin sister. So many things were the same and yet so different; both Romulan women were very formidable and reserved each in their own way, yet lived different lives with different experiences. Anyway, Chance had started the message playing. So he sat watching and listened to everything the Romulan with the dragon tattoo above her left cheek spoke. “Hello Darling, I wanted to tell you how things are going here. I have been learning a lot about this universe’s history, cultures, governments, and peoples. Counseling is a bit of a pain though. Talk, talk, talk, and it’s not even the fun kind. I have started to learn a few things about myself though; I have also learned a lot about you as well. “First let me tell you that one of my instructors, Captain Madison Davis, knows who you are, and doesn’t seem to think very highly of you. After classes ended the other day, she and I started talking and I discovered what a bad man you were during the Federation Civil War. You know she is still not happy with you for deceiving her the way you did. But I understand; war is war. “Captain Davis was surprised to hear that you were still in Starfleet and not in prison, or at least running from the authorities. She seemed even more surprised to hear that you made lieutenant and currently the Chief of Security for the USS Rosenante. From what I have heard, you are so different from the Chance ‘Temerarious’ I knew in my universe. “That reminds me, I have met some other people from your life. The first was an intel-agent; he is a Romulan named D’rajevon. Admiral Heatherby has him conducting my debriefings lately. I honestly do not like the man; there is something about him makes me want to bathe every time I am in a room with him. Fortunately, the only time I see him is in the interrogation room. “The second was, of all people, your mother. I had no idea she was coming when she arrived at the apartment day before yesterday. She explained that you had asked her to check in on me from time to time to make sure I was okay. That was very sweet of you darling. “According to Margaret, you explained to her my situation and that you were my sponsor for Rehabilitative Education and Counseling. I guess that is technically true. There are photographs of you and your wife around the apartment. As your mother looked at me and the photos, she explained to me that as much as she was pleased to meet me. And that she understood that I was a different individual; but it was going to take some getting used to. I also told her that if it would make it easier on her, that she could simply call me Lela. She insisted on calling me by my proper name, said it would be odd for awhile but that she would get used to it. “Come to find out, she’s meeting S’Adashiv on Romulas week after next to discuss business. From the gleam in her eye, I think your mother is planning on doing more than just ‘talk shop’ with him. Margaret asked me to tell you that she will be more than happy to help break the news about me to him if that is okay with you. She wants to have a get together here on Geneva so I can meet your grandfather and S’Adashiv. “It was a very nice two day visit. Your Mother seemed VERY interested in our relationship. I explained to her that we first met back in October during a mission and that when I defected, for lack of a better term; you agreed to be my sponsor and let me stay in the apartment. I showed her some of the videos and photos we took during our time together before you got underway again. When Margaret saw them, she began to cry saying that she ‘had not seen you that happy since before T’Lela died years ago’. She told me about you and T’Lela; and I told her about the last relationship I was in. She told me that she didn’t want either of us to get hurt. She loves you very much. I think I am starting to lean that way as well, but am nervous to say so. “Well, that is about all I have for now. I hope to hear from you soon. Take care of yourself darling. T’Lela Out.” After the message ended, Chance played the message again with the volume off just so he could watch the woman speaking. He had to admit that in just a short time he was starting to fall in love with her. HE was just scared of losing her the way he lost his wife, and he wasn’t sure if he could go through that again. (Reply none) Posted by Charlie ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 - 2O/CTAC - Lt Cmdr T'Larah Sullivan - Day 5 - 0421) This mission was going fairly well, her part anyway. All the satellites were in orbit and stationed and working. That is where the easy stopped, after that there were complications. Chance and the engineering department had tried their best but were un able to effect enough repairs on the recovered phaser banks to get them working. The best that could be done was placing them in the recyclers and salvaging them for energy. Maddox was still attempting to by-pass the local planetary conditions to allow at least the transportation of equipment. However, none of these things were the reason T'Larah couldn't sleep. She decided that perhaps some intense physical activity in the holodeck was in order. She stepped onto the holodeck trillpa in right hand and baton in the left. She was wearing a her star fleet physical training uniform with hard-soled shoes. The program started without delay. "CHALLENGER!" the man bellowed, "WHO DARES FACE THE MIGHT OF THE SPARTAN ARMY!" The man was in front of a phalanx formation of large round shields of newly hammered bronze, bristling with with spears pointing out angrily toward her. The man himself was covered in golden bronze armor, breast plate, grieves, bracers, shield, spear and helmet. His helmet obscured his face, but some how he was still able to make his voice heard over the wind and rumbling thunder of the storm approaching. "I DO, T'LARAH SULLIVAN, OF VULCAN!" she had to yell in response to match his thundering timbre. The grip on her weapons tightened. They both approached one another. The holodeck door closed behind T'Larah, sealed then disappeared into nothingness as the hologram of the cliff swallowed it whole. The spartan man towered over the Vulcan woman. The spartan removed his helmet, it revealed a man possibly in his thirties or maybe early forties. His dark hair was cut short to avoid giving an advantage to his adversaries. His face was weathered from many battles in his life time. He looked at T'Larah, now not having to scream to be heard, spoke. "...of Vulcan? Do you mean that you are the daughter of the god of fire?" ~Close enough.~ "I am a daughter of Vulcan, yes." she replied. "No matter, even with the blood of a god in your veins you are no match for one of the greatest warriors in all the land." the spartan boasted. He signaled to the platoon behind him. They collectively stood down and opened into a moon shape to observe the coming fight. He re donned his bronze helmet, hefted his shield and spear and readied them. T'Larah dropped into a fighting stance and readied for the upcoming attack.
