He had neither time, nor inclination to indulge in that sort of discussion. There was a mountain of things that needed doing, and he stood at the base of it looking upwards. His turn to be pleasant. “Lieutenant, no such order was given by me, nor was I – until now – made aware of one. Perhaps it was given during my injury, as I was rendered unconscious, and Commander Caskie assumed command of the ship. In any event, I will ask her to look into the matter. If anything of interest turns up, I will make certain you are notified.” (Reply T’Rillian iyw, but none needed) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid– Day 1, 1033) "Well sir, I think the only way my record is impressive is the number of separate times I have become a member of Starfleet. My only real combat experience was on the Cavalier during the Heatherby Revolt. But that was a few years after you and the others had vanished." "Combat experience isn't everything mister Tamblyn. I would suggest to you that although Starfleet has recently been acting in more of a military manner of late, that they were originally founded upon and are returning to their roots as explorers. What did you do prior to rejoining the fleet this time around?" Ahmed replied. "Before returning to Starfleet this time, I was a Grad-Student teaching history and literature at the University of Florida while finishing my Masters degree. I also earned money on the side working with a friend of mine, an Archaeologist, who frequently contracted me to do research as well." "While at the university I had even written a book on Admiral Riker for SFI entitled 'Halsey Wasn't the Last'. I don't think they used it though. I was surprised one day when one of my students, in the ROTC program, sited it in their bibliography on a paper they had written on the evolution of naval tactics." "We have something in common. I have a degree in Archeology among my accolades, although admittedly I haven't written any publications for Starfleet Intelligence. What are your plans going forward?" "Right now I have no plans to stay in Starfleet. Though when I finish this contract for being recalled when you and the others reappeared, that will put me at around 16 years in. I have never re-up ed before so I may just go ahead and finish off my 20 and go from there." Ahmed nodded. "I see so you were recalled rather than volunteering this time around." he stated rhetorically, "So why not just resign your commission and move back into the private sector? Or is it possible that you are just as curious about the universe as the rest of us mister Tamblyn?" (reply Tamblyn) "Interesting insight." Ahmed replied thoughtfully, "I see here in your orders that you are to be transferring to the Rosenante as an assistant to the Operations Department. Considering your experience in the academic and scientific fields, I could have you assigned instead to our sciences department. You certainly have more than enough qualifications to run the department as the department head. Which would you prefer?" (reply Tamblyn) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante– Ready Room– LT David Michael Tamblyn– 1035) Ahmed nodded. "I see so you were recalled rather than volunteering this time around." he stated rhetorically, "So why not just resign your commission and move back into the private sector? Or is it possible that you are just as curious about the universe as the rest of us mister Tamblyn?" "Of course I'm curious sir. I didn't become a Historian because of the money, or lack there of." Tamblyn said trying to be a little humorous. Then he went on as if giving a lecture at the university. "After the Heatherby Revolt the IFF was disbanded, reorganized and reconstituted into an inactive ready reserve force or citizen militia. The name and basic mission remained the same but its make up had changed. It was no longer populated with privateers and mercinaries. Instead the new IFF was made up of Starfleet and Marine Corps veterans. All of whom had been honorably discharged from service, but willing to return to active duty if needed. "When I separated from Starfleet this last time I still had a sense of 'For God and Country' so to speak, so I agreed to become part of it. When I got recalled after you and the others reappeared, I went ahead and signed a 6 year active duty contract. It allowed me to travel more without having to pay out of pocket to do so, which is something I missed in the private sector. Plus, I told Starfleet I would serve at least another 6 more years." "Interesting insight." Ahmed replied thoughtfully, "I see here in your orders that you are to be transferring to the Rosenante as an assistant to the Operations Department. Considering your experience in the academic and scientific fields, I could have you assigned instead to our sciences department. You certainly have more than enough qualifications to run the department as the department head. Which would you prefer?" "That, believe it or not sir, is a tough choice. What I have done in Starfleet I have never done in the private sector and vise versa. As the CSO I would be able to do more of what I enjoy doing professionally. However as an Operations Officer, I can be on the Bridge watching history unfold first hand." Then after a couple of moments, Tamblyn said "Captain, if there is no problem with be being at a station on the bridge then I will gladly accept the position in your science department." (Reply Salid) "Roger sir. Will there be anything else sir?" (reply Commander Jennifer Caskie) “Anything else, Sir?” asked Vanik. (reply Commander Jennifer Caskie) “Aye Sir.” Vanik said. He turned around and left the room. He knew that he would have to leave his quarters on the ship while it was being repaired and he knew that he could get a temporary one at Starbase Geneva. He made his way back to his quarters to start packing the items which he would need for the next few days for his rituals and mediation. "May I?" she asked, has the shopkeeper handen the blade over. Jessica with deft practiced hands unsheathed the blade, She felt the balance of the blade. As she took the blade though several motions, the knife seemed to become an extension of Jessica hand has the blade danced and flipped over her hand, only to be brought back into it's sheath. "Like the other historic items in this shop, the material is original but coated in slim but protective layer that hardens the blade and handle and prevents it from degradation due to use. You are free to use this blade to do whatever you wish--whether it be skinning animals or simple opening of packages...or even self protection. It is a small but useful knife, and extremely sharp. I sharpened and oiled it myself last week." The shopkeeper continued. "It's a beautiful piece of work and it carries a nice balance..." She thought over the quality of the blade."Yes, I think I'll take it." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - A Wrinkle In Time Shop - ATAC/SC Ensign (jg) Jessica Signos - Day 1 - 1134) Jessica and Eian wondered the store looking at things of old, some from times near forgotten. Jessica was looking at a small brooch made of jade, dusted with diamonds, and wrapped with a silver cord, when Eian's voice got her attention "Jessica, Third shelf up, right there." Jessica looked where Eian pointed she studied the position of the painting to the rosary. "What do you think, Cardilly's trying to say something?" Eian commented. "More than likely, He takes to much attention to detail just to have those two items just thrown together. Now what he's trying to say. Now that's the question?" She grinned has she looked up at Eian. Jessica looked at the painting for a bit longer the women captured by the artist scope reminded Jessica of her mother. True her mother was never a Orion slave girl, but her mother was no saint either. Maybe that was the hidden meaning. How fine a line there is between Saint and Sinner, and that line was a matter of perspective. "Jessica, Eian," Liam interrupted, and pointed at a case a few meters from where they were. Eian wheeled Jessica over and they looked inside. Jessica looked over the weaponry inside the case. She knew where the knowledge came from. Why she knew a good deal about each of the weapons and started to go though naming each of the devices that were found there, Lily was well versed in the art and history of war. Something that Jessica chose to keep to herself. They went about the shop a bit longer then decided it was about time to leave. gathering there purchases they left the store and on to the next activity on the list. Since he was going to be giving some spare quarters on Starbase Geneva while the deck his own quarters where on were repaired. While away he intended to have a long period of mediation and relaxation. With permission, he left the ship and headed to the locations of his current quarters. It was a small room with a bed, table and chair. This was all he needed for his mediations. He placed his bag on the table and took out the small items, pieces of Vulcan logic puzzles and mind-challenging pictures. He lit a few candles, sat down on the chair, and began to play with the puzzle, hoping to keep his mind focused on the logic puzzle before him. I realise that you lost someone especially close to you since I know how much your team means to you. If you will be holding a service on the Station please let me know since I would like to attend." Mike nodded. It was a difficult thing to think about. He had managed to keep his team intact throughout the Civil war without a single loss, only to have lost Mosh in a struggle for control of the Rosenante against the Borg. "Thank you, Jennifer. That means a great deal to me. There won't be a service though. Mosh's personal religious beliefs prevent it. I have written a letter to his family. That's what he wanted to happen if he didn't make it." Mike replied, his voice a bit sullen. "The Rangers will honor him in their own way. We'll have a proper send off before we go back on duty again, I'll make certain that you are there." (reply Caskie) He held her tight, savoring the comforting warmth of her body pressed against him. It was an almost guilty feeling, something that confirmed the fact that he was alive. Which in turn acutely reminded him that Mosh was not. He finally broke the embrace, almost as much out of guilt as a need to get underway and distract himself. "Maybe we should get going, eh? It might take a while to find the perfect dress." Ahmed nodded a single nod. "Certainly, You have twenty-four hours. I expect an answer by 1200 hours tomorrow." "Thank you, sir. May I be allowed visitors?" Andrew inquired. Again Ahmed nodded, "You may. I will allow you to be confined to quarters rather than the brig for the next twenty four hours. You may have any visitors that you like mister Maddox, however, be forewarned. I consider you a flight risk and if you give me any reason to believe that you are going to attempt flight, I will see to it that you are punished to the full extent of the law. I'd prefer you weigh your options rather than force my hand on this matter. In addition I will retain the right as CO to revoke these privileges on a case-by case basis as I deem necessary. We will monitor all visits in accordance with security protocols." Ahmed concluded. "I understand it will be extremely limited, each person a case-by-case basis to be judged by you and you alone." Maddox answered, but then hurried to add, "I can work productively until that time. With appropriate equipment." "I prefer that you do not split your focus mister Maddox. You will remain in quarters and will focus your attentions towards coming to a decision. You will not be allowed to continue any of your duties until I or commander Sullivan release you back to duty. Am I clear?" Ahmed ordered. (reply Maddox) "Very good." Ahmed replied and tapped a button on his desktop. A moment later the security escort stepped through the door to the ready room. "Lieutenant. Please escort mister Maddox to his quarters. He is to remain confined there until 1200 hours tomorrow, when I will be conducting a follow-up interview. I also want all environmental access points monitored as well as a transport inhibitor activated around area. You are to consider mister Maddox a high flight risk." Ahmed stated. "Understood, sir." the lieutenant replied. "That will be all, lieutenant. Carry out your orders." The lieutenant gestured for Maddox to exit the compartment. After all security had notified him of the captain's arrival. "Come in Captain." He said as he stood and gestured to the open chair opposite his desk. "To what do I owe this visit?" "Good afternoon sir. I'm here to deliver my report." Durand replied after coming to attention. Again Ahmed gestured to the open chair. "Have a seat and let's get started." “Very well sir. Before we begin, I brought something we both might need.” He placed the small box within Salid’s reach on his desk, and continued by way of explanation. “A certain trader who I got to know the last time I had a port call here happens to have a fine selection. That’s supposed to be Ethiopian Roast. I thought it might be apropos, given your fondness for coffee. It makes a strong flavored brew. I enjoy it, and hope you will as well.” Ahmed nodded. "Indeed. Thank you for your consideration Captain Durand. I happen to have a weakness for a good cup of coffee." Ahmed rose and stepped over to the replicator and ordered up a large french press, a coffee grinder and a large container of near boiling water. when he cleared the materialization stand, he then added a coffee service and brought all of those things to the desk where he found Durand waiting patiently to continue. A PADD had been placed on the desktop, and Ahmed was in no hurry to review it. So instead, he went about make two cups of coffee in the French press. It wasn't until they were finished and served that he picked up the PADD to review as he savored the bold richness of the Ethiopian beans. "My report sir. The official updates, as of about thirty minutes ago. There are separate attachments for the yardmaster, detailed damage reports and repair estimates, along with personnel status, casualty lists, etc for BuPERS. There is also an ‘eyes only’ tactical analysis, which deals with the tactics developed and refined by your Commander Sullivan and myself, along with the detailed after action reports of the Boudicca’s portion of the engagements. Commander Sullivan is a true credit to the fleet, Captain… but I suppose you know that." Ahmed nodded as he placed his cup on the saucer designated for just that task. "Indeed I do Captain. Commander Sullivan has served with me for some time. I have never had reason to doubt her abilities or her judgment." he replied, as he slowly scrolled through the report, flipping pages slightly faster than a normal person could have possibly read them. "You’ll find another letter of commendation/recommendation from Lieutenant Commander Lorimar, my ATT officer. It deals with your Lieutenant Raschen, and his actions on the surface. Lorimar was quite impressed with your man’s performance and courage under combat conditions. But I think his letter speaks for itself sir." "I was able to briefly observe Mister Raschen while he stood in at tactical during the last engagement with the T’Kon… device. His performance and tactical skills were in the finest tradition of the service. Your other officer that was seconded to us – Mister Jackson – did an impressive job as well. You train your people well, Captain. This ship, her crew, and her CO are a jewel of the fleet. I’m proud to have served under your command." Ahmed nodded. "Thank you Captain, but I assure you one thing I do not train my officers in is insubordination. I reviewed the data and bridge logs during the Battle with the Sphere for my own report and noted the gruff handling that Lieutenant Raschen gave you Captain. I can assure you it will not go unaddressed. Even if you don't wish to press charges, I still feel it necessary to address the issue with mister Raschen personally." "It seems that it's times of extreme stress like now that we truly find out what sort of officers we have under our command. I know that I was greatly impressed with the performance of the Boudicca crew. You run a tight ship." Durand must have heard something unspoken in Ahmed's tone because he immediately changed the subject, "Under the personnel section, Captain, you’ll find the preliminary investigative results – Commander Caskie is tasked with completing that – of our inquiry into Lieutenant Trei’s actions during the mission. I intend to recommend a General Court Martial. He was already under probation as a result of Mast held during our last stay at Starbase 989." "I concur." Ahmed stated simply. Alan stopped and sighed heavily, "Sir, as Captain of the Boudicca – at least until the Admiralty relieves me for my performance during this mission – I am wholly and completely responsible for the conduct of the officers and crew under my command. Therefore, as a result of the gravitas of his actions while under my command, I respectfully submit myself for whatever disciplinary action you see fit." Ahmed nodded. "I completely understand, Captain. I depended on you to maintain discipline and control over your crew for the entirety of this mission, and you did just that to the best of your ability. We are all fallible Captain Durand. We sometimes make poor decisions or bad character judgments. It's the nature of being human. I have reviewed Lieutenant Trei's record as well as your own. I took into account a great many factors and have come to the conclusion that you are not to blame. You inherited the Lieutenant. He was already the ship's Chief tactical officer when you were promoted to Captain of the Boudicca. Your experience with him was limited and you had not yet had the time to fully appreciate his lack of judgment. That's not a crime." "It would have been a crime if you had not requested a General Court Martial for his actions here. I think that the Captain's mast was a good attempt to salvage an officer that had appeared to be competent and worth the effort of salvage. I would have made the same effort. Now seeing the results of that decision, you have determined to take a more direct stance, and i feel that you have done the right thing, both with the mast and with your request for a Court Martial. So there will be no further disciplinary actions taken at my recommendation for your role as his commanding officer." "In fact I have a meeting with Admiral Richardson tomorrow at 1600 hours to discuss our official reports and to determine whether there will be a formal inquiry. I will pass on to him the results of my own Captain's mast that i am holding against one of the members of my own crew, as well as your recommendation for the CM for Lieutenant Trei. I will also be providing the admiral with a list of personnel whom I feel should be promoted or commended for their actions during our last mission." (reply Durand) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva – Primary Recreation Level, Club Avalon – CO Captain Durand – 1645) In response to his polite request to join the party, Durand had gotten an equally polite answer. Then, a surprise. A rather tall one, in fact. "Alan, I have someone I'd like you to meet. Well, meet again. This is Katya Romanov." Raschen said as a 6 foot tall brunette with green eyes walked up and put her arm around Durand's shoulders. "Long time, no see Alan." She said in a Russian accent as she gave him a little peck on his cheek before sitting down next to him. ~Rather presumptuous way to greet me… especially considering the way we parted company,~ he thought. No trace of his inner thoughts showed, however… this was hardly the time or place for dredge up any of *that*. While reaching for his drink, he smoothly disengaged himself from Katya, and all in one motion hitched his chair just slightly away so that she would have an uncomfortable stretch to reach him again. He hoped she would get the not-so-subtle hint that he did not feel receptive to being pawed at, or toyed with. Not even here and now. Perhaps *especially* not here or now. He was starting to regret his impulsive move to join the ‘party’; after all, he had just wanted to be left alone. Without actually being alone, that was. He was about to reply – politely – when she jabbed him verbally. "We first met at the academy and then again at that Loyalist planning conference before you defected." Katya explained. A fun drink was turning into a rather unpleasant rehash (and revisionist history) of a very unpleasant time. His retort came out pleasantly enough, despite the fact that it sprang from his lips unbidden. “It seems our recollection of history differs somewhat Ms. Romanov. And I’m fairly certain these fine folks have no interest in revisiting that particular period of time.” (Reply Katya, Any) Chance answered, "Katya didn't make the post-war purge. Now she works for my mom as captain of the Pink Panther." “My sincere condolences,” Durand put in with a smile, “I do understand that good help is hard to find.” He took a long pull from his drink, wondering just how quickly he would be able to make his exit from the suddenly unpleasant environment. (Reply Durand iyw, any iyw) (Reply Durand iyw, any iyw) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Geneva Station - Holodeck 4 - FO - Commander T'Larah Sullivan - 1734) The line had held for what had seemed like an eternity. Drone bodies littered the ground in numbers too large to count, and the numbers started to thin. T'Larah had been through numerous engagements, and skirmishes the worst of them time always seemed to stretch on until it was perceivable. One of the Borg with an axe-like appendage swung and cut a Spartan in two un-equal pieces. The Borg was quickly re payed with jabs from four spears, but the damage to the shield wall was done, several drones pushed through the hole made by the fallen warrior. The Spartan phalanx was forced to scatter. What was one single proverbial line in the sand became numerous smaller skirmishes as teams of Spartan warriors fought for their lives. T'Larah and two Spartan warriors were cut off from the rest. T'Larah shoved her spear-tip into one of the Borg and it exited the other side. Another drone took a two-bladed scissor-like pincher and caught the haft of the spear. A splinter-crack and the pair of blades severed the spear in half. T'Larah dropped the useless wooden pole and drew her Trillpa. A quick thrust and swipe of her sword and she disabled the hydraulic hose that operated the scissor-claw. The now non-operating claw was still able to be used as a weighted striking weapon, and was. The drone swung the now single use appendage at T'Larah's head in response to her attack. She barely brought the shield up in time, and it reverberated with the force of the impact. The drone swung again and again battering away at the bronze shield. It developed enough of a dent-crack that the next blow wedged the spine of the blade into the shield. A short tug of war tore the shield away, and Sullivan narrowly avoided the return downward stroke. She rolled away and the Borg followed slightly slower, but continually on the offensive swing after swing. T'Larah blocked with the crecent hilt of the trillpa and reached down with her off hand and took the ahn-woon that was wrapped around her waist off. The long two inch wide leather strap uncoiled, the weight thudded to the ground and she pushed the Borg away using his resistance to spin and thrust the blade of the sword deep into her enemy's chest. She yanked the blade out and charged the next drone, sword in a reverse-grip in her off hand and her dominant hand twirling the ahn-woon to bring it up to speed for her next move. One of the drones had cornered a Spartan soldier knocked him prone and was ready to deliver the fatal blow. T'Larah had closed the distance and swung her Vulcan whip. The leather wrapped around the Borg's neck, and it secured it self with the weight overlapping the running end. She pulled it taut at just the right instant, cinching it tight. The drone clawed at the strap with his fingers but it didn't give way. T'Larah turned around with the whip over her shoulder and suddenly yanked in a pack strap pull, snapping the drone's neck. She approached the Spartan to ensure he was still alive. The whip fell away now that there was no tension on the strap. "Are you still among the living, Spartan?" T'Larah asked. "Yes, it will take more then one spawn of Hades to take me down." he said as he used his spear to get himself up, he was bleeding from a gash near his ribs. T'Larah looked at him with a deadly gaze and drew back the ahn-woon, ready to strike. "No! I can still fight!" The Spartan protested, it was as close to a beg for mercy that anyone would get from his people. FOO-CRACK! The whip accelerated to past the speed of sound in an instant, striking her target true. The drone fell near inches from the Spartan's back. The Spartan opened his eyes and was amazed he was not yet staring at the fields of the afterlife. "Yes you can, so get to it." she said. Jessica was looking forward to this time with mixed emotions. There was so much that happened, so much that they had gone though where they truly the same people they fell in love with or did those people die when they fought the Borg. Jessica was lost in thought, until Eian's voice brought her back. "Would you like anything, Jessica?" Eian asked has she shook her head clearing the many rampant thought flying though. "No thank you." she replied softly, sweetly. Eian crossed the room placing his dessert on the coffee table "Do you want to get out of that chair? Maybe join me on the couch?" "Yes, thank you Eian." She spoke happy to be out of the confines of the chair, if only for a moment, besides the couch was vastly more comfortable. Soon they were both seated and settled. They looked at and into each other studying the new details that marked each others face. Eian was about to speak, but Jessica spoke first, looking deeply into his face. "Eian, whats wrong I see it in our eyes, that something is troubling you? Please tell me?" It was all Jessica could do not to cry. "How can e pick up the pieces of our broken life and carry on if you don't let me in and share your pain." She looked away, waiting for his answer. Either way the She knew this conversation was gonna be one of the hardest ever in her life. There was so much to talk about, one of the most important was the one thing that she was forbidden to speak of... Lily (reply Eian) (posted by Matthew Locke.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Signos's Temporary Quarters - ACEO Lt JG Eian O'Neill - Day 1 - 2058) "Eian, what's wrong? I see it in your eyes, that something is troubling you. Please tell me?" Jessica's plea came out more like a question, and Eian looked at her expression, studying it. "How can we pick up the pieces of our broken lives and carry on if you don't let me in to share your pain?" He thought he had noticed it before, but he had shrugged it off. After Jessica looked down and away after her last statement, Eian was sure he hadn't imagined it after all. She felt guilty. She had said she was sorry before, and he didn't understand it then. Now, with this perpetual display of shame and guilt, Eian knew she was hiding something. She felt like she had done something horrible, and he had no idea what it might have been. He had read the report. He knew that she had been the one to capture him, and set the explosion that he couldn't remember. For injuring him, he could understand that she'd feel guilty. It must have been hard to make that decision--he knew he would have struggled, hesitated, perhaps even failed to detonate it if their positions had been reversed. Despite the heartache that came from that, he wasn't sure it was the answer. He thought it ran deeper than that. Almost as if Jessica was ashamed of something *about* herself rather than what she had done. Similar to his own shame, he thought. He could empathize with his girlfriend. He could understand how shameful she felt, how guilty--because he felt the same way. But for some reason, he wasn't able to express these feelings adequately. What came out of his mouth sounded more like an accusation. "What are you hiding from *me*, Jessica?" Even after he said it he was sorry for it, but he couldn't take it back. And he couldn't guarantee that whatever came out of his mouth next wouldn't be just as stinging as his first comment. It was as if someone had taken over his emotions and was now controlling them. (reply Jessica) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Signos's Temporary Quarters - ATAC/SC Ensign (jg) Jessica Signos - Day 1 - 2100) "What are you hiding from *me*, Jessica?" The words stabbed like a knife tough Jessica's heart had they become so adapt at reading each other so quickly. She grasped for the words to explain herself, her guilt, her sorrow. But she had to know how much did Eian know how much did he remember. "Why would you think I am hiding something from you? I am sorry for causing you so much pain, I nearly killed you Eian. When were back on 989 I swore to myself I would never try to bring you pain, no less end your life." She spoke a hint of anger creeping into her voice at the bold accusation. (reply Eian, iyw) She quickly checked her emotions and became quite somber. "But, your right I am hiding something..." she paused and took a deep breath. If Jessica had anything on the long return trip was time to think, She made the decision then for better or worse she was gonna break the order given and tell him about Lily. It was a pain staking decision that she had made have several sleepless days debating. Yes she would have to answer for breaking the order but in this case she had to do what felt right, She had to follow her heart. Even if that meant in the end losing Eian. (reply Eian, iyw) She reached out to take his hand in hers. "What do you remember about right after the blast. Do you remember my voice..." Again she paused. "And the voice of another that spoke with me." She gave Eian a moment to let this sink in before she began again. "For about the last ten years of my life, I've shared my body with another person. A person that has done terrible things, a person that knows the darker places of the human soul, The assassin known has Lily." There it was finally said it was out in the open. Jessica braced herself for what would come next, even though her insides were a raging sea of turmoil, and uncertainty. But the one thought that raged above all others in her mind was ~What will Eian do now?~ Before Eian had a chance to slip away she slid a PADD into his hand in was a personnel file... Lily's file. She looked into his eyes. "I want you to know everything, no secrets... because your more involved that what you know." (reply Eian) (posted by Matthew Locke) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Signos' Temporary Quarters - ACEO Lt JG Eian O'Neill - Day 1 - 2104) "Why would you think I am hiding something from you? I am sorry for causing you so much pain...I nearly killed you, Eian. When we were back on 989 I swore to myself that I would never try to bring you pain, no less end your life." she asked after a stunned pause. It was clear to him that he had surprised her. And clear to him that she was a little angry at his statement. He couldn't blame her--he would have been angry had she said it to him. But he was having a hard time controlling his emotions, and he knew he was right. She confirmed this for him only seconds later. "But...you're right, I am hiding something." She paused, and took a deep breath. Eian was silent, waiting for her to say something. All she did for a moment was take his hand. He couldn't figure out what it was that she was hiding--he already knew that she had set the explosive. He had actually never been angry at her for that. He understood that she wasn't doing it to him, she was doing it to Volus and 2 of 5. Finally, she spoke. "What do you remember about right after the blast? Do you remember my voice...and the voice of another that spoke with me?" Eian squinted in confusion. He couldn't remember, and what she said completely puzzled him. He shook his head. "What do you mean?" "For about the last ten years of my life, I've shared my body with another person. A person that has done terrible things, a person that knows the darker places of the human soul. The assassin known as Lily." Eian felt like he had just been blindsided. He thought for a moment he had heard her wrong. Someone sharing her body? An assassin? Did she suffer from dissociative identity disorder? Perhaps she was on some kind of medication? His mind was racing to find a plausible explanation. He couldn't help but think, ~I've got my own problems. I don't need hers too...~ In the recesses of his mind, he felt the familiar voice that he would have called God's telling him that he was not more important than her, that her problems were equally, if not moreso, important than his, and that he was called to sacrifice as Jesus did. But he now recognized that voice to be false, and if God was not real, this voice in his head seemed to him to be detrimental to his health. ~I need to be concentrating on getting back to work. On getting back to my life. Not on someone with...two personalities. And one is *dangerous*.~ The logic of Christianity said that sacrifice *was* detrimental to his health, and that was the point. But that through that sacrifice, he would become closer to knowing God. If God didn't exist, the only thing that he would grow closer to was Jessica's problems. While these thoughts were churning in his head, she handed him a PADD that had information on Lily. "I want you to know everything, no secrets...because you're more involved than what you know." Personnel information. An assassin...not an imaginary one, not a figment of someone's imagination. He was sitting next to an assassin. He saw the simple seal at the top. Section 31's logo...but they weren't real, were they? They had been disbanded, and anyone claiming to be them now was simply some self-important, attention-starved, pitiful person that belonged more in a hospital than a prison. He slipped his hand out of hers, holding the PADD close to him as he stood. "I...I need to think about this," was all he could say. He wanted to say so much more. Ask her questions. Demand answers. But he didn't know who he was standing in front of. Was she even safe to be around? Who else knew about this? She was transferring onto the Rosenante--she had put in for a transfer while they were still on 989. Could he, in good conscience, let her do that without telling Captain Salid what kind of security officer he was inheriting? Could he let her even stay in this room without an armed guard? Did she have control over Lily? Should he pick her up while she was still confined to the wheelchair and carry her to Security? He didn't do this, and he decided not to go to Salid, to at least give her the benefit of the doubt that if she had not yet lashed out and gone crazy, she probably wouldn't go crazy at random. But he definitely couldn't sit next to her and tell her the deepest thoughts of his soul while she may not even be the person she said she was. Without even saying goodbye, he left her quarters. He felt guilty, but he told himself that he was doing the right thing. ~You don't want to get mixed up in all of this.~ But he also felt sad. He had just lost his girlfriend. Someone he thought he coudl trust was not trustworthy at all. In fact, she was a killer! He shook his head at the absurdity of the situation, and headed for his temporary quarters. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Medical Holodeck 5 - ACEO Lt JG Eian O'Neill - Day 1 - 2120) He had swung by his quarters, tossed Jessica's PADD on his desk, and grabbed two things. His puppy Murphy, and his physical therapy program on the memory stick the doctor had given him. He went directly to the Medical Holodeck that was reserved for him for the duration of his leave time. It was a large Starbase and a small holodeck, so this was possible. He didn't think he would need it for the duration of his visit, but he now wanted to spend his entire vacation in this holodeck. He would program a bed and food for Murphy, and he wouldn't leave. Because the last thing he wanted to do was go back out to face Jessica, or worse, his father. The program started, and famous quarterbacks and hockey captains from centuries past stood around, waiting to meet him and get started on the program. For now, he wanted to sleep. He would start the therapy in the morning. So he asked for a cot, dimmed the lights, and went to sleep with Murphy curled in a ball nearby. Jackson would earn it on his own or not at all. "Let's take a walk around the base. Besides I am starving" Dahlia said. "Good idea" Tom replied. They soon were dressed and heading out. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva Main Promenade Lieutenant Tom and Dahlia Jackson Day 2 0910 ) The couple walked and chatted about the baby and what they might expect. "To be honest, I have no clue about kids. As you know I was an only child" Tom admitted. "I have no clue either" Dahlia replied. She continued thinking out loud. "I guess we'll learn as we go Tom" she added. They stopped and sat on a bench. Tom wanted to lighten the mood and asked her "What should we name our child my dear?" Dahlia scrunched her nose up and thought for a moment. She honestly hadn't thought about names. "What have you come up with" she asked her husband. Tom thought for a moment before replying. "I am partial to the old earth name of Amber Leigh for a girl and Robert Edward for a boy" Tom added. She thought about those for a moment. It was clear she liked the name for girl. She was not so sure about the boy name. Tom explained what the names meant. It was clear by her expression she was still unsure about the boy's name. "Ok, you suggest a boy's name then" Tom added with a smile. His lovely wife thought deeply for a moment and said with a smile "How about Thomas then?" Tom was proud that she wanted their child to share his name but he explained that meant the boy would be Thomas Jackson Junior. Most likely he'd end up being nicknamed Tommy. "You are going to be the one carrying the baby and bearing the pain of delivery so I think it only fair you make the choice" Tom told her. She nodded her agreement. She smiled and squeezed his hand. "We have time to decide Thomas" she said. "Hey I forgot about eating" Tom laughed as his tummy rumbled loudly. Jackson blushed a bright red and grinned. Dahlia laughed. Tom loved her laugh as it brightened her face and made him glad she was his. Tom's thoughts turned to duty. They were likely to have the baby with the Rose was on a mission. The personnel situation on the Boudicca and Rosenante was critical. Both were awaiting a large slate of replacements. In their case the Medical area was hurting. Tom prayed his first prayer as a new dad - the baby and Dahlia would come through with flying colors. As 2nd officer he was not directly involved with personnel decisions / selections unless the CO or FO were to become disabled. He was for all intents and purposes an 'insurance policy'. Tom's duty was to ensure a continuity of command. He was a more confident officer after this last mission. He had briefly served as a/FO and found he had an aptitude for higher command. This would have surprised his academy instructors. They bluntly told him he might make a department head but never attain a command level billet. He was of course curious as to whom SF personnel would detail to them as replacements. Tom was dressed in civies. Dahlia had spiced up Tom's wardrobe. He felt strange not wearing his uniform. They sighted a brunch style eatery called ' The Country Corner'. This was a basic eatery - nothing fancy just lots of wholesome, filling food. They entered and selected a table with a good view of the Promenade area. He described the Rite of Ascention that he went through on board the Boudicca. He wanted the simulation to be as close as possible to the event he participated in. When he was satisfied with the look of it, he told the computer to replicate 4 bags of popcorn in the carnival style and 4 large cups of Coke a Cola soda. Just then Lisa arrived. He told her to take a seat beside the Sumo ring and grab one of the refreshment pairs. LTjg Roberts arrived shortly after and Detron told him the same about the refreshments. He commanded the computer to run the simulation. As the simulation ran, he went through the gauntlet as he did then and showed the two present the passion he felt then. He showed what it means to be Klingon Warrior. He hoped that his passion would motivate his students to perform at their best. When the simulation ended, he saw a spark of passion in their eyes. He was pleased to see the desired effect. He then told Lisa and Roberts to enter the ring. They faced their respective dummies and practiced as before. "Approaching predetermined docking coordinates now, Doctor." the bright faced young shuttle pilot reported. Bruce found the exuberant youth of the shuttle pilot a little annoying, but when word had got out that Bruce was leaving, and so quickly, there was no way to schedule a flight with one of the usual pilots, as they are all off system. So this young upstart jumped at the chance to be alone in a high-speed warp shuttle with 'the great Doctor Maddox'. Bruce was painted in a corner, he needed a pilot and he was the only one left with a current piloting rating. "Hail the station, I need to arrange a meeting with the Captain of the USS Rosenante. Get me an appointment with Captain Salid." he ordered. There wasn't much that would get a man like Bruce to change his schedule on a moments notice and be across the quadrant the next day in a high-speed warp shuttle. Captain Salid had given the crew some leave time while the Rose was being repaired, she was damaged extensively in the fight with the Borg and it was going to take some time to put her back in shape. He walked into his parents ward and pulled a chair up between their beds. They both gave him a smile which he returned, it was good having them back. His father was the first to speak. "Wants on your mind Son?" He asked. "Captain Salid has released the crew for leave." Ben stated. "That means it's time for me to leave Geneva for a while." "Your going to look for her?" Freya asked.
