Maddox shook his head to clear out the cobwebs, as he looked back at the crack in the conference table. ~Wow, did I do that?~ Maddox thought as he got up. He looked over to Willowbrook and then the Captain, both were sort of in a haze like Andrew was. The Captain was recovering his breath and Joseph looked the worse of the three. "Sir are you okay?" one of the security detail asked. "Maddox- arrest him. Maximum security escort." the Captain managed to croak. "Get Willowbrook to Sickbay." "Arrest me?" Maddox protested "I killed one of the Borg, and was almost killed attempting to combat one who had her sights on you!" "Ensign, you have the right to remain silent..." the security petty officer began reading as a medical team poured into the observation lounge. "..but I..." Andrew attempted to explain. "..should you give up your rights anything you say can and will be used against you at your trial. You have a right to legal counsel. If you do not have personal counsel, one will be appointed for you by the courts. Do you understand your rights as I have explained them to you?" the petty officer explained. Andrew thought as they put Joseph on the stretcher. As they lifted the cot to take him to sickbay, Andrew motioned for them to stop. The Petty Officer who read the rights raised his phaser. "I understand my rights, before you cart me off, can I say something to my friend?" Andrew pleaded. The petty officer looked to the Captain. (Reply Salid) "Joseph." Andrew said. Willowbrook's eyes opened slowly. (Reply Willowbrook) "Joseph I'm sorry." he said shame played across his face and colored his words as they carried the man away that Andrew hoped was still his friend. The four guards escorted Maddox to where ever they were going to hold him at phaser point. (Reply Salid, Willowbrook) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - Science Officer Ensign JG Joseph Willowbrook - Day 5 - 1153) Joseph thought it was odd he knew he was going into shock. From what he had learned in the Academy, what he remembered from his first aid classes, it was more common that the victim didn't know. But there he laid on the ground, phaser dropped from his hand, blood everywhere, and all he could think was, ~I'm going into shock.~ He felt cold, he began to shake, his eyes were going in and out of focus, and he was dizzy and sick to his stomach. The wound he had sustained wasn't that severe. It knocked him out for a few minutes but he had regained consciousness. He had sustained worse earlier in the day, actually. He slumped back onto the floor, unable to hold his head up any longer. His breathing became shallow, and he stared at his friend Maddox. Andrew seemed almost as shocked by the events of the past few minutes as he did. But the captain was alive. He was loaded onto a stretcher and they prepared to take him to Sickbay. He closed his eyes in complete exhaustion and hoped that he would wake up a few days from now when all of this was over. If that was possible. "Joseph." Andrew said. Willowbrook's eyes opened slowly, and he looked at the sight of his friend flanked by security. Concern and confusion was written on his face as he asked, "Andrew?" "Joseph I'm sorry." The four guards escorted Maddox to where ever they were going to hold him at phaser point. "He didn't mean it," Joseph managed to say, but however weakly and nearly incomprehensibly it came out, he directed it specifically toward Salid before he passed out. (reply Salid) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Trauma Surgeon - Ensign (Dr) V'Nara Oren - 1207) V'Nara was enjoying a break from the hectic schedule of the operating room, and a small meal when she heard some commotion in the front. She rose from her seat and went into the front, "What's going on?" she asked after swallowing the last bite of food. She saw a medical team bringing in an unconscious patient in a blue uniform. "Report! what happened?" she asked. "MOI appears to be a high-voltage electrical shock. He was stable until we got onto this deck. He slipped into V-Tach once we got to sickbay. His vitals are dropping rapidly." "Get Ichijo." she ordered. "Currently she's with another critical patient." came a response from a member of the medical team. "Damn, looks like it's up to me. Get him on the table." she ordered and the team did as they were told. Soon readings came out on the display, her patient was not in a good way. "Code blue, prep the defibrillator." The bed beeped every time Willowbrook's heart beated. The beeps went from really rapid to a cacophony of tones and alarms. "Now V-Fib." someone reported. "Charge it, 300 joules." V'Nara ordered. One of the techs pushed a button to start the sequence. [Charging Defibrillator, stand clear.] toned the computer. [Ready] "Clear!" she said, and pushed the button to send a much smaller current through her patient then that had originally injured him in the first place. All of his muscles clenched at once at the current ran through Willowbrook in an instant. "Still V-Fib." someone reported again. " Push the meds then charge it to 350." The surgeon ordered. [Charging Defibrillator, stand clear.] toned the computer. [Ready] "Clear!" she said and the current ran through her patient again, producing the same results. "Still V-Fib" "Again!" [Charging Defibrillator, stand clear.] toned the computer. [Ready] "Now!" she ordered with more urgency. ~Come on, work! I don't want to loose you, not to something this mundane.~ "Sinus Tach. we did it! " The patient began waking. (Reply Willowbrook) "Welcome back to the land of the living Ensign. It was touch and go for a little bit, but we managed to pull you out of the fire." V'Nara spoke to him. (Reply Willowbrook) "Well we will get some cardio-stabilizers for you. You will need regular injections about every six hours for the next ten days or so." she said. (Reply Willowbrook) She laughed, "No nothing like that. I can show you how to give yourself the injections and give you a hypospray. You show up once every two days for a new hypo. It's that simple." (Reply Willowbrook) "Not so fast, rest easy. I want to monitor you for six or seven hours then I will release you on light duty." she answered. (Reply Willowbrook) "Light duty means no running off to fight Borg unless you have to or if the Captain orders it for the safety of the ship or others, clear?" (Reply Willowbrook) "For now, rest. I'll send someone to check on you in a little while. Ring us if you get hungry and we'll get you something." (reply Willowbrook) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Science Officer Ensign JG Joseph Willowbrook - Day 5 - 1215) Joseph didn't remember anything after he initially passed out in the Observation Lounge. When he came to, he was flat on his back on a biobed and he had a tightness in his chest. His breathing was somewhat labored as he looked around and saw multiple people standing over him, seemingly treating him. He vaguely remembered the incident in the Observation Lounge, being shocked by Maddox's weapon, phasering the last drone and saving the Captain...it all seemed like it was a dream. But his presence here told him otherwise. "What happened?" He asked, surprised at how weak his voice sounded. His dislocated shoulder had hurt far worse than Maddox's weapon, and yet it appeared that the latter had drained the energy out of his body. He felt tired and shaky. "Welcome back to the land of the living Ensign. It was touch and go for a little bit, but we managed to pull you out of the fire," an Andorian doctor spoke to him. That surprised Joseph even more. He didn't think it was that serious. He had been able to fire the phaser...had woken up after the weapon initially knocked him out. But apparently the shock had done something to his system that he wasn't aware that shocks could do. There was much he didn't know about the human body. "What's my diagnosis?" "Well we will get some cardio-stabilizers for you. You will need regular injections about every six hours for the next ten days or so." she said. His eyebrows pulled together and he said with genuine fear, "Needles?" She laughed, "No nothing like that. I can show you how to give yourself the injections and give you a hypospray. You show up once every two days for a new hypo. It's that simple." He sighed and nodded in relief. Then he began to sit up and get off the biobed, assuming that he could leave with his injections and get back to work. "Not so fast, rest easy. I want to monitor you for six or seven hours then I will release you on light duty." she answered. He frowned. "What does that mean?" He needed to get back to the Captain and Maddox, and see if his friend and CO were okay. He needed to get back to his job. They were under attack--he couldn't afford to sit here in Sickbay. "Light duty means no running off to fight Borg unless you have to or if the Captain orders it for the safety of the ship or others, clear?" Still frowning, Joseph nodded his reluctant agreement. "For now, rest. I'll send someone to check on you in a little while. Ring us if you get hungry and we'll get you something." He relaxed back onto the biobed, still feeling tired and shaky. "How are Andrew Maddox and the Captain? Are they both okay?" Joseph asked. (reply Oren) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Trauma Surgeon - Ensign (Dr) V'Nara Oren - 1221) "How are Andrew Maddox and the Captain? Are they both okay?" Joseph asked. "The Captain is fine, as for Maddox I was going to send a tech to the Brig to check on him. With the sheer volume of patients that have come in, he has a rather low priority, him being stable and all." she said. "Plus it's only a confinement physical." (Reply Willowbrook) "You would have to ask the Captain for permission to talk to Maddox." she said. "Do you need anything else?" she asked. (Reply Willowbrook) "Well let us know if you need anything else." she said and went back to the break room. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Operating Room 3 - Med Tech - Petty Officer - Carmen Santiago - Day 5 - 1543) Carmen helped to wheel the stasis chamber into the operating room and was about to leave when the doctor's words stopped her. "Give me report Chief, and keep those med techs we are going to need them for our surgical team." Her partner immediately replied, "Ma'am we aren't a regular surgical team." Unfortunately that seemed to make no never mind to the surgeon. "Nonsense, you are all rated in surgical technique. I've just read up on the Current Starfleet Academy Medical Tech program. Time to earn your keep, and give me a report." Carmen and her partner stood to the side waiting while the doctor and Nate began discussing the patient. Eventually the doctor decided that they would have to remove him from stasis and before Carmen could stop him her partner had inputted the code that would shut down the stasis field around the patient. Almost before the CPO requested it Carmen had set up the stasis field again and turning to her partner she shook her head as the CPO began berating him. "Crewman, you have a lot of explaining to do." She ignored all the byplay between them and began updating everyone on what she had heard when the patient had been brought in to Sickbay. "Sirs. Commander Caskie brought O'Neill into Sickbay. Since he had been assimilated previously by the Borg, Caskie's team were using him for some research that I have been told by Commander Caskie that we are not privy to except that it had to do with the nanoprobes. It seems that for whatever reason, his nanoprobes are no longer working to keep his body functioning and the Commander brought him here in the stasis chamber. Most of his internal organs are missing, having been replaced by borg components which are no longer working. It seems that he has multiple internal organ failure. His heart, spleen and liver, being the most serious but not the only ones. He had multiple amputations due to the Borg replacing not only one of his arms but also at least one of his optical sockets. He has multiple broken bones due to, I think, his original fight with the Borg and extreme plasma burns due to what I understand is a recent injury, sustained whilst he was recaptured. That is the extent of Cmdr Caskie's report sir." (Reply Oren or Nate) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Deck 4 Biophysics Lab - CEO - Lt. Steven Matrix - Day 5 - 1544) ~Okay...lets see if the computer core is online.~ Matrix punched up the access code routine and requested core access. "Computer, Access primary core. Authorization Matrix-Omega-Four-Five." said Matrix. [Core Access Acknowledged. Please standby.] "Interesting...." said Matrix as he looked over the display algorithms now displayed before him. [Core Access Acknowledged. Primary core is now online.] "Computer, access sensor logs for PADD number 1012. Catalog Borg Drone Scan Results. Analyze and isolate common communication frequencies." said Matrix. [Acknowledged. Analysis will take approximately 23 minutes to complete.] "Proceed." replied Matrix. Over the course of the next 26 minutes the computer isolated the Borg communication frequencies they were looking for. It was in a very narrow EM band, but had the capability to traverse rather large distances. The frequency used appeared to be a combination of microwave and gamma-ray. Now the trick was to develop a catalyst device in which to deliver their own message...or in this case a payload. "Computer. Is it possible to construct a hand held device capable of delivering a nanoprobe using this information and using available resources aboard ship?" asked Matrix. [Affirmative. A device could be constructed using a tricorder template. However, in order to generate a frequency range matching the analysis, the device could only be used for approximately three discharges.] "Can we construct more than one device given the status of the ship at this time?" asked Matrix. [No.] "Please explain." said Matrix. [The replication data stores and available energy levels accessible by the replicators could only sustain one working prototype.] "I think I can fix that." said Matrix. [Please rephrase the request.] "Ignore that last comment computer." replied Matrix. =^= Matrix to Cohen...meet me in engineering in 10 minutes. =^= said Matrix. "Acknowledged Chief. I'm already here." replied Peter Cohen. =^= Matrix to Caskie. I've managed to isolate the frequencies used by the Borg. I'm sending the analysis to your station shortly. We should be able to replicate a delivery system via any of the replicators available in that lab. =^= (Reply Caskie, anyone in the Biolab) =^= I'll head back to engineering and pick up a few tools and meet you there. Matrix out. =^= (Reply Caskie, anyone in the Biolab) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Operating Room 3 - Trauma Surgeon - Ensign (Dr) V'Nara Oren - 1547) "Sirs. That is the extent of Cmdr Caskie's report sir." The junior Petty Officer reported. "Thank you for that report, however, my priorities don't change. We need to restore a patent airway. We need to replace numerous internal organs, remove the ineffectual nanoprobes, and an escharotomy. Once we turn off the stasis field we will not have much time. First I will perform a tracheotomy so he can breath, while I do that, Petty Officer Santiago, you will regulate the bio bed to perform a sedation, after that your sole job will be to monitor vital signs and sedation levels. Understood?" (Reply PO Santiago) "Chief Fuller, you will set up the magnetic extractor to remove the ineffectual Borg Nanoprobes and place them in isolation. I do not know what Doctor Caskie was experimenting with the nanoprobes, but as far as I'm concerned she can have them back. If they still were functional I might entertain allowing them to restore Mister O'Neill's body, but now they are just waste and need to be removed. Also could you coordinate with the Commander and see if she wants them back?" "I will be ready in a moment." Nate said wheeling the appropriate machines over. "And you." she said glaring at the Med Tech who had made the previous mistake. "you will be my assistant, so I can watch you. When I ask for an instrument you will provide it. When I hand it back to you place it exactly where it was. If I ask you to do something, hold traction, retractors, what ever it needs to be done, got it?" "Got it, understood, sir." he responded a little sheepishly. "Everyone Ready?" (Reply PO Santiago) "Very well then, let's begin." she looked at Santiago, V'Nara's violet eyes showed a joy in her job. "If you would take our patient out of stasis." (Reply PO Santiago) As the stasis dropped, O'Neill opened his eyes. "Magnetic extraction begining." Nate reported. (Reply O'Neill) "Scalpel." she said holding her gloved hand out. Instantly the appropriate instrument appeared in her hand. "Hold him," she ordered as Nate and the other Med Tech attempted to hold down O'Neil as he resisted. (reply O'Neill) "Mister O'Neill!" She said in a loud authoritative voice, "I know you are in pain, and can't breath, but if you don't hold still you will die on this table!" (Reply O'Neill) With apparent great effort, the assimilated Star Fleet officer managed to control himself. V'Nara nodded at Santiago indicating a start of the sedation. "Give him some pain relief. 30 micrograms." (reply Santiago, O'Neill) The surgeon's hands were quick, she made an incision and pierced the cryco-thyroid membrane with a blink of an eye. A rush of air was heard as Mister O'Neill now had an airway. She placed the tube in one smooth motion, and secured it in a few moments. (Reply O'Neill, Santiago, IYW) "The rest of the way. Keep his respirations above twelve." she said. Now that she had positive control of his airway, she was confident that sedation could be accomplished safely and indefinately. (Reply O'Neill, Santiago) The sedation began in earnest under Santiago's monitoring. "Mister Fuller, we need an epithelial biopsy, so we can clone some organs for him." she said. Nate brought out a device that just marveled V'Nara, she was used to getting the biopsy with a very large, long needle. This device used medical transporters to get the material that they required. As current surgeons came V'Nara was the only one in Star Fleet that was in her 30s and still used the older of the current techniques. For instance she was the only surgeon in active duty that still performed manual tracheotomies. Fuller pressed a few buttons and the biopsy was complete. ~Amazing, the steps medicine has taken.~ "How is our patient, Mister Santiago?" V'Nara asked for a status report. (Reply Santiago) "Good, strong work." (reply Santiago) "I know but familiar or not you are doing admirably" she complimented the Petty officer. "Have any of you seen an escharotomy? Or are even familiar with one?" she asked her motley team. (reply Santiago) "I've seen one before, saw a lot of explosions and burns against the Cardassians." he admitted. "No, sir." said the junior enlisted. "Well for your benefit then, an escharotomy is a treatment for circumferential burns. You cut longitudinally to allow swelling to occur, with out the swelling cutting off distal circulation." she explained. "Positively barbaric!" the junior man said. "Why?" V'Nara shot back. "This technique can be used on any back water world you might come to. Also if you have no power, and by candlelight. Obviously you wouldn't want to do that, but I'm just saying you could." (Reply Santiago) "Lets continue so we can finish up." she said. With in a few minutes the last procedure was complete. "Okay, Fuller, how is the organ growing progressing?" she asked. "It has a way to go, maybe a few hours?" Nate reported. "Well put Mister O'Neill back under stasis. We will continue this once our organs are ready." she said. (Reply Santiago) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Operating Room 3 - Med Tech - PO - Carmen Santiago - Day 5 - 1549) "Thank you for that report, however, my priorities don't change. Understood?" Carmen had been listening diligently whilst the doctor spoke. She was indeed trained in OR procedures, as every Med Tech was, however this didn't mean that she had ever had to use her training before so she tried to keep track of everything the doctor said without looking like she had never done this in her life before. Nodding her head to acknowledge the doctor she looked up. "Understood Sir." Carmen took the time whilst the doctor was giving everyone else orders to sterilise and put on a surgical gown and as soon as she returned to the table Dr Oren immediately pinned Carmen down with her eyes. "If you would take our patient out of stasis." Carmen nodded and keyed in the code that would drop the stasis field already readying herself for the cacophony of alarms that this would set off and once done she reported. "Stasis off now." Immediately CPO Fuller began extracting the nanoprobes and Dr Oren began her first procedure. Unfortunately O'Neill began to jump around and Oren speaking sharply to him then ordered Carmen to begin sedation. "Give him some pain relief. 30 micrograms." Carmen's fingers flew over the console setting up the correct dose all the while monitoring all the vital signs on the monitor. A few moments later the doctor had the breathing tube in place and Carmen almost gave the same sigh of relief that came from their patient. Finally realising that the doctor was waiting for her to put their patient under deep sedation Carmen keyed in the requisite volume for his weight and carefully monitored his vitals. Once she was sure he was indeed 'under' she nodded in the doctor's direction before returning her gaze to the monitors. The doctor spoke to her, much to Carmen's surprise. "Good, strong work." Carmen glanced up quickly. "Thank you Doctor. I must admit I am not familiar with anesthesiology." "I know but familiar or not you are doing admirably" she complimented the Petty officer. "Have any of you seen an escharotomy? Or are even familiar with one?" she asked next. Carmen simply shook her head since she didn't feel comfortable taking her eyes away from her screens for too long. However the other Med Tech was more vocal, more fool him, and he expressed revulsion at how barbaric the treatment seemed. Carmen could indeed have jumped in and mentioned that he was fairly new, but to be honest she was too busy and simply couldn't be bothered to mention that in his defense. Waiting for Dr Oren to pounce on him Carmen was surprised when instead she simply gave them all a lecture on it's possible uses during triage and left it at that. Once the procedures were complete the doctor finished up by ordering Carmen to put O'Neill back under stasis until his new organs were ready. Carmen keyed the panel to cut the anaesthetic and begin bringing the patient round. Once he had reached what she judged as a safe level she keyed in the code to reactivate the stasis field and checked all his vitals again. Once she was sure that everything was ok she turned to the doctor. "The patient is safely back in stasis Doctor with no adverse affects that I can see. Given the short length of time that this pod can safely store someone on battery power I will have him transferred to the Stasis Bay until you are ready to continue." (Reply Oren) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Operating Room 3 - ACEO Lt JG Eian O'Neill - Day 5 - 1556) For the second time that day, the world seemed to be turned on very suddenly. All Eian was aware of was that before his world was dark, and suddenly an onslaught of light and sound assaulted his senses. His eyes shot open in shock and pain, and he looked around him in panic. The people surrounding him were just like the Borg...they were about to do something to him...he had to get away, he was hurt, he couldn't breathe, they were going to kill him... He heard someone say, "Magnetic extraction begining." ~Oh, God. What are they going to do to me?~ That was the only thought that went through his head as he tried desperately to get away from them. He was in so much pain, and his already damaged vision was starting to black out from lack of oxygen. But his survival instinct told him to get away, get to safety. "Scalpel," some woman ordered, and he struggled desperately. "Hold him," she ordered. He was like a wild, injured animal, cornered and panicking and putting every ounce of energy he had left into escaping. "Mister O'Neill!" The woman said in a loud authoritative voice, "I know you are in pain, and can't breath, but if you don't hold still you will die on this table!" Somehow in the recesses of his mind, he seemed to realize that he was human, that he had been through an incredible ordeal, and that these people were not Borg and were in fact trying to help him. He still couldn't breathe. He knew he would die soon, and his thoughts were becoming cloudy and distant. But he managed to stop resisting. He clung to the hope that those who surrounded him truly were trying to help and not re-assimilate him or kill him. And then he heard, "Give him some pain relief. 30 micrograms." He had seldom heard such beautiful words. The pain relief was less than he had hoped for, but any oasis from the overwhelming pain was a gift. He barely felt the incision. His nerves were too damaged and the pain too great elsewhere in his body. What he did feel was a sudden suctioning occur as his body naturally tried to get oxygen through the newly formed airway. A tube was secured, and Eian could breathe. His vision became clearer. His thoughts were clearing, and he could see the doctors around him. ~Thank you,~ he thought. "The rest of the way. Keep his respirations above twelve." the doctor said. After that, Eian began to feel lightheaded again, only this time it came with no panicking. He simply felt sleepy and like he was floating at the same time. So he allowed his one good eye to close, and the world faded away. (reply any there) (Posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Main Engineering - CEO - Lt. Steven Matrix - Day 5 - 1601) Matrix downloaded the computational results from the Biophysics computer. The analysis contained a number of gaps in construction techniques, but Matrix was confident they could overcome the missing information. Namely the power source requirements for such a small unit. Starfleet power cells were efficient enough, but such high power requirements in a hand held device often fell short in field use. Here they weren't concerned with fleet wide deployment, but simply getting the job done. "Computer read the output from the biophysics calculation, Matrix-331 and stage the material replicator with those parameters." said Matrix. [Acknowledged] Matrix turned around and punched up another material replicator, this time with the necessary power schematics for their prototype. Often power cells had to me manufactured separately from their primary host. This work flow was developed over the years and were the result of accidents and inefficiencies in modulating power while replicating complex material devices. There were many occasions that power supplies ignited or combined incorrectly during the replication process resulting in explosions and unintended accidents. "Computer, replicate power source Matrix-441 in replication station B." said Matrix. [Acknowledged. Replication of the power prototype will take approximately 22 minutes to complete.] "Proceed." commanded Matrix. =^= Matrix to Caskie. We've started the power source replication for our first prototype...about 25 minutes before we have a working power source to start testing. =^= (Reply Caskie) =^= Right Commander. We'll get it built and bring it up to the biolab for testing before we try deploying. =^= replied Matrix. (Reply Caskie. IYW) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Outside Sickbay, Lieutenant jg Sanok, 1624) Soma said, "Sanok, Eian was badly burned in the explosion. His skin is charred and his body armor has melted in many places. If Commander Caskie transferred him to sickbay, it means the nano-probes are not repairing the damage, and what remains of his human physiology, can't cope with the extent of his injuries. It is likely that he may not survive." Sanok thought about this bad news. Though he had grown to like O'Neill, Sanok was thinking more about Ben right now. This mission had been emotionally draining for the entire crew, but for his friend, it could become another part of his life taken by the Borg. "Eian O'Neill is strong," said Sanok. "Our medical technology is very advanced. I am confident that he will survive." After Ben responded to this, he entered sickbay to check on O'Neill. Sanok remained outside, standing guard. Though helped by his stronger Vulcan physique, Sanok was beginning to feel the draining affects of sustained combat as well. He was looking forward to being able to go to his quarters and spend the night in meditation. He never expected any of them to survive the encounter with the Borg, so because they had done so well thus far, he was certain they would prevail. It was just a matter of time. (reply Soma) (posted by Bob B.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Outside Sickbay, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma, 1625) "Eian O'Neill is strong," said Sanok. "Our medical technology is very advanced. I am confident that he will survive." Ben considered what his friend had said, Eian was a strong individual. He had a strong will and faith, that along with their medical technology might be enough to help him pull through. He hoped it would be, Eian was severely injured and if not for what the Borg had done to him he might already be dead. His body armor no doubt protected him from the worst of the blast and the nano probes maintained his biological systems after the blast. But how much could they do, if he was transferred to sickbay were the Borg enhancements working as they should. Something in the way Sanok looked at him made him believe Eian was not the Vulcans primary concern at the moment. Ben gave him a slight nod. "I'll be fine my friend." He said. "Let's hope Eian will be to." With that he turned and entered Sickbay. (reply none) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Trauma Surgeon - Ensign (Dr) V'Nara Oren - 1950) "Doctor the organs are ready!" someone told her. "Good, lets get our patient prepped. The whole team to the OR in five." she ordered. It took less then three minutes for the team to assemble and the patient to be moved and the organ cloning machine to be moved into the OR. As V'Nara was about to step into the OR she saw Petty Officer Santiago off to one corner of the room. "Santiago, you want in on this surgery? I got a team back, but I could always use another set of hands." she offered. (Reply PO Santiago) "Well let's go.." Santiago and V'Nara entered the operating room and before they were even in gowns the team was ready. V'Nara checked the wall chronometer, it was getting late for Mister O'Neill. "We need to work quickly people. We don't have much time before Chronal Necrosis begins showing up. Petty Officer Santiago to the left of the table please next to the medical transporter." (Reply Santiago) "Remove the stasis and anesthetize him." she ordered. The trained anesthetist did just that and the transition was quick and seamless. "Set up sterile field." she ordered. The biobed hood was placed and a force field erected to keep stray breezes from sweeping in contaminants. The sickbay's computers automatically pumped out any air and with it, contaminants in the force field's area of influence, which was just under his chin to the top of the illiac crest on the top of his hips. Then an inert gas mixture of nitrogen and xenon was pumped into the force field just enough to equalize pressures. What followed next was a systematic replacement of all the organs that were non-viable. Each organ was different but the procedure was the same. Doctor V'Nara would isolate the circulation of each organ, then separate it from the surrounding tissue with a laser scalpel. Once it was ready, she ordered the transporter switch of the old-non-viable with the freshly cloned varieties. The up side of cloned organs was that there was no chance of rejection. The down side was that some species didn't take to it well, and also others couldn't be cloned very well or spend that much time with out a viable organ. Humans were a little more tolerant then most. "Transport the organ." the Doctor ordered. (Reply Santiago, iyw) The team continued the same process for each organ, keeping O'Neill under for the entire time. Near the end of replacing the last organ on the list, his stomach there was an abnormal reading. "Doctor, I'm seeing some abnormal brain wave activity." the anesthetist said. "Abnormal? Iin what way?" V'Nara asked. "It's depressed and dropping." came the response. "I'm finishing up the last organ." she said. She sped up her autosuture to finish placing the stomach. "Finished, restore circulation." "Brain waves still dropping." the anesthetist reported. "We are going to have to wake him. The Borg must have really done a number on him. His brain was used to being subjugated, so much so that when we took away the nanites it was having trouble asserting itself again." she explained. "Bring him up and start conscious sedation." she ordered. "Place a restraining forcefield on him." Conscious sedation was unique in the way that while he would be awake and not feel much pain, he could answer questions, but O'Neill wouldn't remember a thing. In the infancy of modern surgery, intelligence services experimented with a form of conscious sedation with Sodium Pentathol, also called truth serum. Over the centuries the medicines were improved. V'Nara had no clue if modern Intellegence Services still used the technique as she was not trained in it. (Reply O'Neill) "He's coming around now. Brain waves returning to normal." reported the anesthetist. "Mister O'Neill, do not be alarmed, you are in surgery now. I have placed a restriction field to hold you so that your movement does not inadvertently cause you harm. We are nearly done, but one of the last things we need to verify is if your brain can function now with out the Nanites inhabiting your body." she told him. (Reply O'Neill) "Now Mister O'Neill, tell me how do you feel?" she asked. (Reply O'Neill) V'Nara removed the force field off of his hands and only his hands. "Mister O'Neill, can you move the fingers in your right hand for me?" (Reply O'Neill) "Good, now the left?" she asked. (Reply O'Neill) "Now don't be alarmed but, we can't afford to put you under again, so the remaining portions we will have to with you semi concious." (Reply O'Neill) "No we will use local anesthesia, so you won't feel any pain, but you may feel pressure and pulling." she explained. "You won't remember any of it anyway." (Reply O'Neill) "Because we have you on a special type of anesthesia that doesn't allow your short term memory to fall into your long term, and we will be building your legs from your knees down. It is going to take some work and time. It's very labor intensive. Are you ready?" she said. (Reply O'Neill) "We'll be here talking to you every step of the way, if you'd like." (Reply O'Neill) "Good, then lets begin shall we? Bring the tissue replicator over here," she said pointing to one side, " and the osteo segments over here." she said pointing to the other. "Ensign. Since you have already contact Captain Salid I am sure that he has already given your immediate superior officer there his orders. I suggest you follow them and stop clogging up the comm system with unnecessary chit chat. Caskie out." She immediately shut her comm badge down since she didn't want to give her location away to the Borg and went back to trying to chivvy her personnel to eat and work harder in equal amounts. (No reply needed) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Rosenante - Deck 28 - ATAC/SC Ensign (jg) Jessica Signos & Volus- 2205) Lily knew it was only a matter of time before she met her quarry. She watched the signs, Lily new something was wrong. The drones had been removed from the area, ordered to other areas. The game was about to change someone was trying to make the hunter the hunted. Lily smiled at that fact. She had smoked Volus out of his hiding. Killed enough of his precious drones that he could ill afford to lose more. He would come for her. The final game was about to begin. Lily finished her work, strapping two modified tricorders to her shoulders. each would build a charge and release a EM charge. Lily hoped it would disrupt the Borg's shields enough that she could bring her blades to bare. Then the door to an compartment opened, Lily looked beyond the opening, and saw what had to be the one for she had searched. It was apparent that he as more advanced than the others, better armed, better trained, Finally a suitable target. Lily rose to her full five foot height and walked with a purpose into the room that held Volus. The room was filled with the silence that falls over any battle field before the chaos of battle ensures. Lily noticed the absent of fear. Both were confident in their abilities and that they would carry the day. "I was beginning to wonder when you would show yourself, I was getting tired of killing drones." "I was never hidden, Jessica. I've been waiting for you for some time now. What have you done with Eian? I will be very unhappy if you've caused him harm." "Eian is none of your concern, I did what was needed to be done." She glared at him though her lavender eyes. "Just has you've done." "Have you come for enlightenment? Or are you here to assassinate me?" he asked her pointedly. Lily felt the weight of the blades in her grip, has they, No she thirsted for blood. "I've come for Both." Lily replied cryptically she wanted answers for what he did to Eian, for the many that have died. Almost has much has her heart cried out for blood. "Why did you send Eian after me?" The question escaped her lips. Lily was sure by now that Volus had accessed both crew's rosters and knew about Jessica bloodline and what it could mean to the Borg, a way to slow down the breakdown of their one weakness the biological components that comprised them. "How naive child." Volus replied, "I didn't send Eian after you. He wanted to be with you. I wanted to allow him the opportunity to achieve that dream; nothing more. He was happy that I allowed him the opportunity to go to you; to allow him to share with you the wonders that the Collective had shown him." His organic eye narrowed, "But you betrayed him. I offered him a place where he would always belong and a life full of wonders and knowledge that he would never know as a human being. I gave him the ability to share those wonders with other-s but you wouldn't have any of it, would you? You've even silenced the collective from speaking with him. You've isolated him and taken away everything that he cherished." "You would rather hate and fear and destroy instead of opening your mind to what the collective has to offer. You will destroy the man that you love for the sake of your fear. You're a pathetic fearful little child, and you are not worthy of Eian's love and his desire to share our gift with you. There was no other reason, no ulterior motive other than to allow Eian the two of you to be together experiencing all of the mysteries of the universe as we understand them." "But you..." he pointed at her, "you've allowed yourself to be brainwashed by decades of Federation propaganda that tells you that the collective is evil. It is you who attacked us here, your preciously peaceful Federation that interfered with our mission. You are the cause for this conflict, not the Collective." "And you expect me to believe that." Lily pointed at Volus with one of her blades. "First, the act of changing a ship's course by force is a hostile action. I don't care what race you are. If your mission was not of hostile intent we would have left well enough alone but... you.... attacked us without provocation" The heat of her anger flowed from Lily has she continued her verbal onslaught. "You talk of showing them all the mysteries of the universe. But your thought is flawed, because you wish to show them your tainted view of the universe. What about the sanctity of allowing them to learn about those mysteries themselves? To share the good and work though the bad times? You are trying to take away the things that make loving someone so precious, by handing them everything on a silver platter to nullify their love- making it empty. Before you judge the worth of love between two people you had better know what love is. Yes, the collective has a wealth of knowledge, but compared to finding my own answers." She locked her eyes on his. "All the collective's knowledge is measured in fool's gold." "To show how little you actually know, I bear no alliance to the Federation. Destroy it all and there will still be those like me who harbor in the darkness, who refuse to die, and refuse to give up." "Perhaps you were then unaware of Lieutenant Trei's psychic attack against us? I am certain that you have a means to determine the proper order of events in this matter... Lily." Volus stated, using the name for the persona that she was manifesting. There was a sharp inhale of breath when Volus used her name. "You call that a attack, it was a miracle it even worked. Your grasping at straws, the tactics of a desperate being." "Members of this ship's crew are not the only people that we have assimilated. We have assimilated people who had enough knowledge of your actions during the civil war to postulate that Lily and Jessica Signos were one and the same being. And now you have confirmed our hypothesis." Lily simply shrugged she could not deny the truth of the matter that she was both Jessica and Lily. Of course this was gonna complicate things a great deal. Now Volus knew exactly what he was dealing with. What she was capable of. "If you are determined to shed blood now, here in this place, know that no one among your compatriots, not your shipmates nor your love will survive your attempt to kill me. Attack me and I will see them all converted to mindless drones or lifeless corpses and there will be nothing that you can do to stop me." He threatened. "But leave now, return Eian to me and I shall forgive and forget your ignorant childish transgressions. I am, after all, a forgiving God, capable of granting mercy as well as bringing destruction. And once your Captain has received my emissary, there will be no desire to offer resistance to a lasting peace agreement between our people." (Reply none) (by Matthew Locke & Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Rosenante - Deck 28 - ATAC/SC Ensign (jg) Jessica Signos & Volus- 2206) "I don't believe in a God, especially one like you." She glared at him "My shipmates and my love are stronger than you give them credit for. They have defied you so far. No, it is you who should surrender. Your emissary will fail. Just like you failed assimilating the Tkon sphere already. Just like the rest of the Borg you are predestined for failure. You are no more a God than my hands are clean of the blood of the countless lives I have ended. Your threats are mindless and empty, just like you." Volus looked at her coldly. It took him some effort to restrain his desire to kill her outright. He understood that she was goading him into premature action. But truthfully he really didn't care. He activated his personal shield and raised his prosthetic slowly. "Enough Blasphemy. It's time for you to die now." He activated the arc thrower in the prosthetic and a low powered laser ionized the air between Jessica and himself, a moment later electrons lined up along the path of the ionized beam of light and an artificial lightning bolt spawned. Lily was well-trained with a decade of field experience under her belt. There were missions she had taken part of- the details of which- would never be made known. As Volus spoke, she prepared herself ever so subtly. Lily knew that her reply would be made by action rather than words. Maybe it was the laser aimed at her; the rising of the hair on back of her neck has the air around her ionized, or perhaps was it some other unexplainable sixth sense that made Lily's next movements as blinding fast as they were. For about the same instant the lighting bolt flared to life, Lily threw the blade that rested in her right hand straight at the center of Volus' chest. The bolt arced into the path of the incoming blade- attracted to the metal it was made from. Both exploded into a shower of metal shards and sparks. Off shoots of the bolt raced and arced throughout the room. Lily pressed the button on one of her tricorders releasing the contained EM pulse. This was the moment where either she stuck hard and finished the job, or she would be forced to withdraw. She knew both she and Volus were too evenly matched and willing to use whatever means necessary to accomplish their respective goals. Lily closed the distance, hoping that between the shattered lighting bolt and the EM pulse that Volus' shields would be disabled. She was almost in touching distance of him before she let the second EM pulse go and thrust her left hand that held her second blade forward; seeking his mechanical heart. It was a small target Lily knew, but one she had to find. After all Volus had already ripped out Jessica's with what he made her do to Eian. Now redemption was at hand. The Borg leader watched in detached surprise as Signos launched the blade directly for him. Immediately he calculated the odds of bringing the weapon back to bear against her, but the statistics were not favorable. Instead he prepared to meet her wild charge directly. An Electromagnetic spike was recorded as Signos activated some sort of specialized weapon. The sudden burst of unexpected energy caused his shield to flicker in a cascade of brilliant green swirls of color as he rapidly ordered it to adapt to the signal. Hundreds of the collective analyzed the field type, density and strength and began the adjustments that would protect him from any such follow-up attack, but they weren't completed in time. Signos had closed the distance and in a single swift maneuver, had activated a second EM pulse which had much the same effect as the first. His shield failed as the energy pulse surged over it, and then the point of her blade tore a neat puncture through his outer chest plate and plunged into his cybernetic body. He realized with a quick analysis that she had been aiming for his heart. ~How novel~ he thought. There was no pain, and no real danger, since the area punctured was nothing more than a reservoir for some specialized nanoprobes. He activated the nanites, who swarmed forward, consuming the blade rapidly and using the raw materials began to repair the damage that she had just done. He didn't pause however. He activated the electroshock probes, which extended from his body like the small short spines of a porcupine and attacked her. She was fast, he had to admit that, but the modification to his shield would negate any further attempts at using an EM pulse to gain an advantage. And the electroshock studs that were aligned over a great portion of his cybernetic body would cost her significantly should she make contact with any of them, as they were designed to overwhelm the nervous system of most humanoids, by scrambling the signals used to control their muscles. Her blade struck home she had wounded the beast, but her victory was short lived has nanites swarmed over the blade and consumed it. ~Well that's not fair~ Lily thought has electroshock probes shot from Volus' body. Lily nimbly flipped out of the way of the reaching quills. Lily pulled her ace, a small ball of Triceron with a shock sensor attached to it. It was a crude but effective explosive. Lily threw the device at the feet of Volus, wondering if his shields would protect him from such a blast. The compartment as filled with blinding light, intense heat, and deafening sound has the device exploded. Lily was thrown to the far end of the compartment has fire licked her uniform, setting parts ablaze. Lily landed hard a piece of sharpened metal piercing her arm, another piece logged itself in the bone of her right leg. Her left shoulder blade was shattered from the force of the her landing, and the superheated air burned her lungs and throat. But she lived, she hoped Volus had not. Volus did have the added advantage of better amour and shields but just maybe now he felt just a little bit of what happened to Eian. Just maybe she taught him how to feel pain. Lily did not wait for the smoke to clear to see if Volus perished in the blast. If he had not she was no longer in any condition to continue the fight, and Lily would not be caught has easy prey. She retreated, remembering an order given to another to take her to sick bay. Now she had a reason to be there, so there is where she headed. (Reply none) (by Matthew Locke & Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck 28 - Volus- 2210) Volus had almost forgotten what it was like to be a living creature. His biological components had so long ago been reduced to the merest of vestiges that were critical to remaining a Borg and not a completely mechanical being. His enhanced body didn't feel pain, required little sustenance and was hardly worth mentioning. If he had his way of things, he would have discarded it long ago, cast away the weakened flesh and replaced everything with a mechanical component to guarantee his complete and total immortality. Even with such a body, however, there were limits. He was not indestructible, just more resilient to injury and death. He had already outlived the majority of his species thanks to the Borg technology that coursed through his semi-biological body. The explosion had hit him with a force unlike anything he had ever experienced. It was almost as if he had been struck in the center of his chest by a massive weight. It was a weight that lifted him from his feet, and threw him backwards with such force that he slammed against the opposite bulkhead with enough momentum to scramble the thoughts in the biological portion of his brain. He rebooted face down, looking at the starfleet regulation gray deck. He had somehow managed to shield his weaker biological components with his massive Borg prosthetic arms. Large supports had fallen from the ceiling of the compartment and several metal surfaces in the compartment had been peeled away from their mountings. His biological components had survived without significant damage, but some of his mechanical components had not fared as well, which in itself was a bit of irony. He auto rotated his shoulder joints so that his hands were placed on the decking, and he pressed himself upright. Chunks of consoles, destroyed regeneration alcoves and ceiling support beams fell away from him as he pulled himself free ofthe rubble. He rose to his full height, and noted that the lighting system was flickering with alarming irregularity. His lip curled in a snarl as he shifted to his optical implant, to prevent any disparity in his vision caused by the flashes of sparking power feeds that seemed to be almost everywhere he looked. His pattern recognition software slid into primary mode and started a visual search of the compartment looking for any sign of Signos. All that remained of the woman was a blood splattered impression against one of the bulkheads. His opponent had survived. A quick system diagnostic indicated that he wasn't seriously damaged, instead, his systems were compensating well enough to allow him 78% operational efficiency. Within less than two-hours the nanites that were on repair duty in his body would have the vast majority of that damage repaired as well. It seemed that his personal shield had managed to snap on just in time to deflect the majority of the blast. The resilient nature of his prosthetics had absorbed the remainder of the blow sufficiently. [[Report on our current status]] he ordered. [[Maddox has failed. The Unit Salid remains viable.]] [[Where is Signos?]] he asked. [[Location of unit Signos is unknown.]] [[Status of the Sphere?]] Volus inquired. [[Assimilation is nearly complete. The Sphere will be ready to launch in 3 hours and 15 minutes.]] Volus smiled. [[Excellent. I shall still have my vengeance.]] [[Your statement is irrelevant]] the Collective answered. [[Yes. but it is true nonetheless. I will see the entire human race destroyed.]] [[You have misspoken. You mean assimilated.]] The collective corrected. [[Yes, of course. Assimilated.]] Volus agreed, even while knowing that he actually had meant destroyed. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Rosenante - Deck 28 - ATAC/SC Ensign (jg) Jessica Signos - 2222) Jessica and Lily walked down the corridors of deck 28, if Volus had indeed lived though the blast they knew he was angered. The sounds of drones echoed though the deck hunting them down. Lily had given up command of the body the two shared after the fires that consumed a goodly portion of there uniform were put out. Both figured it was nice to have someone else to talk to. To help take their mind of the pain. Pain, it was the only feeling the wracked their shared body. The act of breathing hurt, trying to manage an escape from behind hostile territory was excruciating. Their left arm hung limply at her side from the shattered shoulder blade further down the arm was a logged piece of metal. Blood flowed freely from the wound on her right leg again the jagged metal logged solidly in her bone continued to tear and cut at her. A pointed reminder that it was still with her. Lily took solice in the pain and passed her feelings on to Jessica. ~As long has we suffer so we know we are still alive.~ ~I could find more enjoyable ways to validate my own existence, Lily~ Jessica replied. Lily would of laughed at the retort if it did not hurt so badly to do so. ~ Were are we heading.~ Jessica pondered. ~How are we gonna escape this.~ ~There is one place that I can think of on this deck that the Borg might of left unscathed, saw no tactical need for it. If we can make it there we can get off this deck.~ They continued to walk leaving a trail of blood behind them movement was more important now instead of the blood loss. It was a risky trade, but she pressed on. Soon it was in sight, a hard dock. Lily and Jessica both had try hard to suppress a smile. Has crossed the hard dock and entered the captain's yacht. "Computer boot primary drives, and seal all bulk heads." They croaked out order to the computer and fell behind the main console. The computer system of the yacht responded and the heavy bulkheads sealed the captain's yacht from the rest of the ship. Jessica and Lily breathed a deep sigh of relief, they had bought some small measure of time, has the small vessels systems booted. "Computer what is the status of Captain Salid." her voice strained. [[ The Captain is on deck 8 all vitals with in normal ranges. ]] The computer responded. "Good" Lily and Jessica spoke in unison "Computer record message to the Captain." The computer beeped its readiness. "Captain Salid, I hope when you read this you are fairing better than I." Lily and Jessica saw themselves for the first time in the reflection of the message, on the record screen. Tears of blood flowed from their blue and lavender eyes. A long narrow gash was visible on her left cheek, and across her body the signs of burns were a pointed reminder at how close the explosion had come to claiming her life. "I have found and engaged the Borg commander Volus. It is my hope that this has pulled there forces from other key area's of the ship so a counter offensive could be taken advantage of." They coughed a hand went to cover there mouth and came away covered in blood. "Captain if We live though this there is a favor I would like to ask of you... Free me..." She ended the comm. and sent it on its way. They hoped the Captain would like the status update but more importantly if he looked behind her he would see that they had control of another asset the captain's yacht. "Signos to Medical, I have wounded prepare for an emergency teleport." (reply any in Medical) They made there way back to teleporter Pad, grabbing a tricorder along the way. They linked the small device to the ships teleporter systems. Has they waited for the respond from Medical. When it came and the all clear was given. They activated the machine that surrounded them with a brilliant light. When it faded they found themselves surrounded by doctors and security, some with phasers aimed. (Reply Santiago or any who want to dabble in medicine ) "Send it Signos. Standard coordinates." he responded to the open channel. He looked to the patient with a gash in his leg. "Well buddy, your leg needs closing, but we got emergents coming in and you aren't bleeding. Sit tight and I or someone will get back to you?" "Sure Nate." the crewman said. "Hey look at it this way, the longer you stay open the more likely a scar, and chicks dig scars." he grinned. The team gathered with med kits and phasers. The order had been made earlier, once the Borg began attacking in earnest that medical teams carry type Is or type IIs while on duty which was all the time during this kind of a crisis. Nate was surprised when his patient showed up. He was expecting a mass casualty event, and he got one patient standing, who was obviously injured, and she promptly collapsed Nate dropped his phaser and caught her before she hit the floor. "Someone scan her, make sure she's not a nanite dirty bomb. I want to make sure there are no Borg Nanoprobes on her anywhere." (reply any) Nate lifted her in a cradle carry, and brought her to an open bio bed. Satisfied that she had no nanites in her after report had been given, he checked and she was still breathing, and the bio bed said her heart was beating. "Well I pulled a little more then we needed. Petty Officer, your team. Evaluate the casualty, triage her, and I'll be back to get a report." Nate said and came back to his previous patient. "Hey she's kinda cute. Do you know if she's single?" the previous patient asked. Nate grinned despite himself, " I've been down that road before, and trust me you don't want an inter-ship romance, plus I think she's spoken for if ships' rumor mills are accurate." Jessica and Lily make work making sure they were ready for whatever lied ahead. It was rather unfortunate that the armory did not contain the heavy armor Jessica and Lily would of liked in her size and they did not have the time to wait for one to be replicated, has it was they took long enough to get the supplies they needed. A shoulder satchel that snapped around the waist loaded with twelve pounds of plastic Ultritium and other ten in plastic Triceron. The rest of the room was taken with small shock detonators, laser trip detonators and a remote detonation switch. Strapped to the belt around there waist where five HE photon grenades, and and two hand phasers. At her side lied a Angel mark II and a type III-C phaser rifle. She was armored, in a black crystalline mesh reflective suit favored by persons that rather move quickly strike fast and get out. True it wasn't has heavy has the armor she would rather have but it was better than nothing. All in all she wore close to thirty pounds in equipment not including the armor. Thanks to the satchel and it's design she was able to carry her load off her left shoulder. The door to the Transporter room opened has Jessica and Lily drove a tactical throwing knife home in it's sheath in her boot, One of a long a long list of varied blades carried about her person, some visible to the eye others not so. They looked at the newcomers. "Welcome gentlemen." They spoke in flawless harmony and smiled has she nodded to each in greeting. She was happy to have two good, strong, and well dressed men along to escort her to the dance. "Ensign." Soma said. "How are you feeling." "Been better, My left arm wont be much help in a brawl, and my right leg has sustained an injury that might hinder my movement a bit. I'll try to fight though that has much has I can." Jessica spoke matter-of-factly for has far has Soma was concerned she was in sickbay and not of in a life or death duel with the borg commander. Lily and Jessica continued, and entered a quick, brief, tactical update of what she learned in her up close and personal meeting with the Borg commander. "Once we get aboard the sphere, if the drones are getting orders from Volus expect that they will adapt quickly and adjust to tactics fast. Volus will be goaded into making hasty actions, I don't expect drones under his control to be any different. Drones might also be equipped with shock patches, so watch out if your in close proximity. Volus himself is armed with a arc thrower that he uses to create artificial lighting, his shields are stronger and fast repairing nanites will make him hard to kill. " She ended her brief and looked at what she was sure were to stunned individuals after all how does someone who was suppose to be contained to medical get this kind of knowledge. Jessica and Lily did have the wounds to back there clam if any asked were this information came from. "So we ready to get this show on the road." She said, snapping her pack, gear, and weapons into place. Isra asked as the remote conversations went on around her. Caskie was talking about getting the code to Jacobs in the commsuite. ~You know the codes not ready yet~ "Yeah, I know. It'll do most of what we need." She said out loud. To everyone else, it was obvious that she was talking to herself. ~What about that bit of code? You can modify that on the way to the commsuite if you need to.~ "Now thats a plan..." she muttered, finishing off where she was. It was the stress of the situation causing her to imagine a voice in her head. She looked up to the terminal near to her. "Carter, are you ready with that bit of code?" she asked, hoping to be able to integrate the two before moving. (Reply Carter) "Good, send it over and I'll join them together. I think I've done enough here to move the code." she asked, preparing her work for transfer to a PADD. As the transfer of the huge file began, she closed her eyes for a moments rest. ~What are you playing at? This is no time for sleep~ she heard in her head. It was the voice of her mother. ~Get up, or you'll be late for your shuttle!~ it continued. In her head, she could see a runabout in front of her. Her first full day as an officer, and she had been assigned to a ship, mid-mission. "This is my chance to show them what I can do." Isra said, back in reality. The code she had written looked the same as the Borg's original code, on the surface of things. she clenched her fist on her good arm as a swell of pain came from her broken one - the side effects of a lower dose of painkillers. She stood, and walked over to Carter. "You need to stay here and work on the nanoprobes to help O'Neill. He's been removed from the collective, so he won't pick up the changes we've made." she said, and offered her good hand to him. "Wish me luck." she said, with a smile. They had an almost perfect virus, but a way to distribute it had totally alluded them. She was just about to start pacing up and down the lab when Captain Salid contacted her. We have a solution to your distribution problem. We need to get the package to the Commsuite controlled by Jackson and his team. From there, they can send it out on an express delivery. Can you verify that you understand?" Josh grinned widely and tapped her badge. "Caskie here. It's almost ready, I think we are just finessing the wrapping. I'll have my Ensign deliver it as soon as he can. Caskie out." She turned back to Caliel. Well Ensign it looks like you are hussling our newest little baby up to the comm suite. Ensign Vanik, I need you to run shotgun for Caliel, She needs to get there, that is your orders." A few moments later the Captain contacted her again. "Commander, we have a new development. I need you back on the Boudicca. The Borg have finally launched the Sphere and we need to intercept it before it gets too far ahead of us temporally. Get Caliel to the Comm Suite. Take Jackson aboard the Boudicca to help. Jacobs needs to get that code transmitted to both ships, then we can separate and try to destroy that sphere.". Josh didn't waste any time in acknoledging. She simply tapped her comm badge and said ok. Stopping Caliel and Vanik she told them of the change of plans. "I need Vanik with me. Carter will escort you to the comm suite. One of you needs to make it there with our information. Good luck. Ensign Vanik, you are with me. We are heading back to the Boudicca. (Reploy Caliel, Carter and Vanik) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck 9 - Comm-suite - ACEO Ensign(jg) Henry Jacobs - 0051) Minutes had passed extremely slowly as the number of advancing drones into the comm-suite had diminished. The signal dispersal had been holding strong and every drone that came within range was immediately affected by it. Since phaser fire had ceased, at least from the end of the Starfleet officers, Jacobs took this time to develop a method of mass distributing the dispersal signal to all the Borg within the vicinity of the two ships. Pacing back and forth, from wall to wall, with his phaser rifle resting upward on his shoulder Jacobs ran multiple scenarios and simulations in his mind. "Romanoff how can we get this program ship wide. The power it took just to maintain it here in the room was a lot. I am surprised it has not blown up in our..." As Jacobs spoke a high pitched sound resonated as it grew in intensity from the console positioned in between Jacobs and Romanoff. The sound reached its zenith with a thunderous explosion and sparks flew in every direction as the console erupted from a power overload. Judging that it was safe to approach, Jacobs walked over to examine what was left from the piece of the destroyed equipment. ~This isn't good~ "What ever we use its gonna blow up in our faces." Jacobs said out loud not necessarily directed towards anyone in particular. With all the courage of someone who thought he had the answer when everyone else didn't, Romanoff cleared his throat to make a suggestion. "You know we have the deflector dish that would serve perfectly to distribute the signal to all the Borg" Pointing to the destroyed communications console as he walked in Romanoff's direction, Jacobs began to speak. "We just saw what happen here, we blow the deflector dish on the Rosenante in her condition and we may loose the ship." Jacobs stood looking at the other Ensign hoping that the words he just shared would sink in and he would think harder and choose carefully before he explored an option. "Yes it would probably rip the Rosenante in half, but, the Boudicca isn't nearly as damaged as the Rose and we can maintain it just long enough to disable the Borg. It does not need to run indefinitely." Jacobs had not considered this and for the life of him he could not think of any other way of disabling the Borg. ~Damn it, if that deflector blows its gonna cause a whole lot of damage. And I am probably gonna have to fix.~ In all the time the discussion had been held there had not been any further attempt by the Borg to enter the room. This was both a relief and a worry since it was apparent that the Borg had shifted their concentration onto something else. With ease Jacobs walked in the direction of Lieutenant Jackson and started explaining what he and Romanoff had discussed. "Romanoff is right, the deflector dish is our only bet to distribute the signal to all the Borg. With the given risks, I suggest we use this method to disable the Borg." (reply Jackson) All that needed to be done now was actually receive the nanoprobes that the others had been working on. Jacobs moved back over to Romanoff to discuss the necessary modifications to the deflector dish onboard the Boudicca in order to deliver the signal effectively. She was quickly becoming a regular visitor. They began to wonder what the place would be like if they weren't in the middle of a crisis. She had been kept there for nearly two hours now has a complete battery of test were run, and her newest wounds patched. She took stock of herself. Limited movement was restored to her left arm, which was wrapped from wrist to shoulder, and even the small movement she could manage was sore and difficult. If caught in a battle she would be dependent on her right arm for the majority of the fighting. Jessica was always able to use both hands with a level that approached ambidexterity. So the switch was a mild inconvenience. =/\=Salid to Sanok, Signos and Soma- report to Transporter room 1, for immediate tactical away team. The Borg have launched the second sphere, acknowledge=/\= She listened to the message and was thankful for the small reprieve she had over the last two hours. The Doctors and nursing staff were quite proficient at making sure their patients ate, rested, and got their strength up. But she still wondered how much use she could be against the tkon sphere and the Borg with in. She hit her comm-badge. "Captain..." She looked over her battered body. "I'm on my way." She spoke suddenly somber that this might be the time where she would not be able to cheat death, Jessica and Lily both knew that. They had both been lucky to many times this mission alone. 'It was truly amazing what you can live though.' One of the medical personnel told her when she first beamed in. It was something both Lily and Jessica had pondered, has they rested. She moved slowly to get up, and was suddenly she felt the hands of another helping her to her feet. Jessica and Lily glanced to see had joined her in her small alcove, and was surprised to see the blue uniform of a medical officer helping her. "Your not gonna request I stay, that I'm in no shape to fight." (reply any in Medical) Jessica and Lily looked over the medical officer apparently her reputation was preceding her after the last time where she quite literally "Flipped out" of sickbay. Lily and Jessica could only nod. A new uniform was replicated in Jessica's small size. Jessica and Lily knew with the damage to her left shoulder that there was no way she would be able to get the garb on by her lonesome, and was thankful when the medical officer stayed to help her into the uniform. "When this is over we'll owe you one." Both Jessica and Lily spoke in harmony. (reply any Medical) Once dressed she made her way to Transporter room 1, by way of the nearest armory. With the comm line closed Ben said. "Here we go again. Lets head to the armory and stock up." Once they reached the armory Ben grabbed some ablative armor, once he had it on he grabbed a tactical belt and two hand phasers checking each for charge. Then he concentrated on stuffing as many explosive devices as he could carry into the belt and harness, photon grenades, charges, mines, what ever might come in handy. He slipped a combat knife into the sheath along with a tricorder, lastly he grabbed a phaser rifle. "Ready." He said to Sanok. After Sanok responded they headed off to the transporter room, Ben hoped this was the last confrontation with the Borg. He wanted this nightmare to be over. He wanted to feel safe again, or at least as safe as one could feel out in space. He wanted to not have to worry about his weapons being ineffective, he wanted to fight the usual enemy. When they entered the transporter room he saw Signos there and waiting, he hadn't spoken to her since Trei escorted out of the biolab. "Ensign." He said. "How are you feeling." However, according to Borg reasoning, the wounded in the place they would be made better, wasn't a priority to them. For all their Collective logic, they could sometimes be stupid. Ben had spent much of the time in the corridor with him, and some of the time inside sickbay, getting updates and reports on their crew mates. While together in the corridor, they hadn't talked much. Both had already said to each other what needed to be said. It had been time to concentrate on their duties. =/\=Salid to Sanok, Signos, and Soma. Report to transporter room 1 for immediate tactical away team. The Borg have launched the second sphere. Acknowledge=/\= Sanok did not have his comm badge anymore, as he had left in in a Jefferies tube hours ago while the Borg were tracking him, so Ben acknowledged the captain's order for them both. Am assault team had retaken the comm suite, and apparently had held it against Borg counterattack, so it had become possible to speak with other parts of the ship. "Here we go again," said Ben. "Lets head to the armory and stock up." Sanok and Ben had fought together, side-by-side, and back-to-back, so many times, 'here we go again' seemed to be their rally cry. With a nod, he followed his friend. Sanok had already been carrying a number of weapons, but in the armory, he restocked what he had used. He also donned some body armor. As they made their way to the transporter room, moving carefully throughout the corridors, he wondered what their tactical assignment was going to be. As the cool air from sickbay tickled her skin, she realized one thing. ~Great, I'm naked under the gown. I will need a uniform. How long have I been out?~ She noticed medical instruments on her temples and forehead. Once she removed those alarms began to sound, and the display readings on the wall behind her bottomed out as they were no longer receiving input. Nate heard the alarms sound and came running. Responding almost before the medtech that was watching the ward nurse's station. "Whoa, Commander. You haven't been released yet...." Nate said. "And I don't recall asking Chief." she responded a little snippier then she would have liked. "Commander, you of all people know the regulations, even the Captain can be held in sickbay by the CMO and you haven't been released yet." he said. "...and where is the CMO?" T'Larah asked. "She is currently with another patient..." he said. "...then Dr Ichico can come get me if she wants me back. " she answered. "Sir you know that is not the spirit of the regulation. I am authorized to stop you bodily if I deem necessary as the ward master. " he stated a fact with out threat. "Will you?" she asked simply. She walked over to the small replicator the physicians ans staff used to produce more uniforms. Nate politely looked away. The tech at the Nurse's station however wasn't as professional, and got an eye full. T'Larah glared at him and he left the room. "No, it will however go in my report. Which will be forwarded to the Captain." he said again stating a fact. "That is unfortunate, because when I report to the bridge I will tell the Captain myself." she said. She reconfigured the machine to produce a standard issue uniform in her size. "I assume you still have my communicator and rank pips?" she asked. "Yes we do." he answered. "May I have them?" she asked. "If you are going to leave then, here." he said reaching into a storage drawer at the desk. He handed her the combadge and three solid pips. She took them. When he saw Caskie he simply gave her a nod of acknowledgment, and kept to himself for the time being. None the less, Chance was thankful to see her alive and well. Chance was kind of surprised to see Tom to go 'formal' for some reason when he saw Josh. Jackson listened as she explained the process they would use. Josh explained the CO wasn't available. Tom didn't ask why. Josh went on to explain he'd need. To double as COPS as well. This Tom Jackson knew how to handle. Jackson acknowledged his orders and sat down at the OPS console. His skilled eye ran over the readings. The Boudicca was in somewhat better shape than his own ship. He completed his scan sweep. Tom sent a message to all areas. "All departments report statuses" Jackson ordered. As Tom waited for the reports to come in; Raschen walked up to him "Tom, I can do the COps job, go take your spot as the First Officer. You earned it." (Reply Jackson) Chance just smiled at his friend. "Commander Caskie; LT Raschen request permission to properly relieve LT Jackson at operations." (Reply Caskie) (Reply: Jackson, Caskie) (Posted by: Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/SC Lieutenant(SG) Detron Trei - 0121) Detron made it to the bridge as he was ordered to do. He left the CommSuite on the Rosenante in less than certain circumstances but he understood that the sphere had to be dealt with. He entered the Bridge and waited for the others to arrive. (Reply Caskie,) (Posted by Edward) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 6 - 0125) As soon as Josh had made it back to the Boudicca Bridge she immediately ordered Vanik to take the Science Station and sat herself down in the centre chair. Almost immediately people began arriving, the first was her old friend Tom who suddenly became very formal when he saw her. “Permission to come onto the bridge?” Josh grinned at him. "Permission granted Mr Jackson. Welcome aboard the Boudicca." “Thank you Commander – it is good to see you again” Tom replied and Josh grinned at him. "It's good to see you again too Tom however my Captain is at present unavailable so I need you not only to be my FO but my Operations Officer too. Please take the Ops Station and as soon as everyone whom Captain Salid ordered aboard this vessel reports aboard I want you to contact the Rose and work with them to separate both ships." “Permission to get things rolling?” Tom asked. Josh nodded, "As soon as everyone needed has reported on board, by all means tell me but don't wait for my orders to undock. Once the Rose is ready and we have everyone we need onboard then do so" (Reply Jackson) Josh turned again as the turbolift opened and disgorged Lt Trei. "Welcome back Lt I trust you've had a productive day. Please take your station at Security. Lt Raschen has been ordered to report to us and I will have him man Tactical once he arrives. (Reply Trei) "Mr Vanik I want any report you can give me on the T'kon sphere and it want it yesterday. Start talking now." (Reply Vanik) (Reply also those who are supposed to report to the Deflector Array. We can't disengage both ships until you report that you are in position) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/SC Lieutenant(SG) Detron Trei - 0129) CDR Caskie welcomed Detron back to the Boudicca and asked if he had a productive day. He smiled for he found amusement in her statement. "Yes sir. It was a most productive day. The Borg have felt my hand often and deserved it sir." He went over to the Security station as ordered and waited for Raschen to take the Tactical station. (Reply Caskie) (Posted by Edward) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante Deck 9 Commo Suite Lieutenant Tom Jackson 2nd Officer / COPS Day 5 0130) Tom started to relax just a tad bit. Jacobs and Romanoff had come up with a potential way to distribute the code that would disrupt the Borg’s ability to communicate interactively. If this worked, it would give the Federation forces a good chance at stopping the Borg. There were risks involved – if it failed the ships were facing a lifetime in the dim past of a dead star system with a radically altered future – a future where they would cease to exist. Time travel and its moral implications were difficult subjects for a black and white type thinker like Tom Jackson. He sometimes wished he could go forward in time and see what the next twenty years would bring. But when he sat and thought about it, he realized that not knowing was actually adding a kind of mystery and anticipation to his life – especially since Dahlia was not a part of his being. Dahlia was filing a big hole in his life of duty and service. He had overheard crewmates saying he was a much more ‘human’ type now that he had a female influence in his life. Life with his wife opened so many possibilities he had never before considered. One such was the prospect of children. Tom always liked being around kids. Tom enjoyed the simple direct manner of kids. He was one of the few adults who would get on the floor and play with the children of the crew of his ship. Mom and Pez had always hinted that children would be welcomed in the family. He had learned that Dahlia’s family had a history of twins and triplets. Now that was a daunting prospect indeed! He smiled in spite of the conditions he was currently in. Tom quit day dreaming and walked to Eva and asked her “How are things Eva?” (Reply: Eva) Tom nodded as she reported. He had been blessed to be associated with these professionals. His job had been made easier. Chance and Sergeant Rickman were handling things equally professionally. For the first time in a long whole, Tom Jackson felt hope. (Reply: Any that would like to) (Posted: by Bill W.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Docking port - ACEO Ensign(jg) Henry Jacobs - 0131) There had been no incident in the journey from the comm-suite to the docking port. Relieved that there was no confrontation en-route to the docking port, Jacobs touches Romanoff on the shoulder as they approached a security detail assigned to guard the port. "Gentlemen," Jacobs begins, " We are waiting for one other before we return to the Boudicca." Two of the men standing guard nod in acknowledgement as they return to the conversation they were having before they were interrupted. Romanoff took a break from working on the padd he carried to start a conversation with Jacobs. "So, does your eye hurt?" Not knowing if Nickolas was making fun or sincerely concerned Jacobs began choosing his words carefully to respond. "It does not hurt, and that's what scares me. There is no feeling what so ever. I'm pretty sure I lost it, and I don't know if there will be any way to heal it and get it back." Romanoff continued, "I am sorry to hear that, but we have an awesome medical staff. Hell Commander Caskie is the first officer, I am sure she will have you fixed up. If not u could always get assimilated? They'd give you a new eye piece!" Jacobs failed to recognize the humor in Romanoff's words but appreciated his sentiment. The chatter continued as the two waited for Ensign Caliel to meet up with them. (reply Caliel) (posted by Darryl McDAniel) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deflector Control - ACEO Ensign(jg) Henry Jacobs - 0137) Once the group passed through the docking port they all made haste to the deflector control room onboard the Boudicca. It was probably unnoticed by the other two but Jacobs noticed that his step was quick and was some what off. In his mind he figured that because the Bouddica was not running at full power the ships gravity regulators were not operating at peak efficiency. The trek reminded him of an excersize run up a mountain trail. Running and jumping over Borg drones seemed to be all the excercise the three needed as they slowed their step as they arrived to their destination. Ensign Romanoff pried the doors open and the three entered. Painting heavily Jacobs tapped his commbadge and opened a channel to Commander Caskie. "Ensign Jacobs to Commander Caskie" (Reply Caskie) "Yes ma'am, myself and Ensigns Romanoff and Caliel have arrived to Deflector Control. We are already making the modifications to the deflector dish. They will be complete in 14 minutes." (reply Caskie) Tapping his badge once again the channel closed and the three began the work under the time line given.
