"Bring them inside our shields Mister Nunez and once everyone is aboard, dump the runabout. we'll come back for it later. mister Yalix, shut it down once we've retrieved everyone." Both officers acknowledged their orders. "Mister Sullivan, meet them in the transporter room and make certain that they they report as needed to either sickbay or duty stations depending on their condition. Take a security team just to be on the safe side." T'Larah had already risen from the center chair and into her own, but she stood again this time to leave the bridge. Kimiko was pressed to think of a reason then remembered that the ships had fought their own battle above the planet. Although the chaos was as controlled as much as anyone could under the circumstances, it threaten to overwhelm the staff, especially with the influx of more wounded. For a moment, Kimiko looked at the scene and didn’t know where to start. She noticed that Yeomen Johnson was at the main computer, updating a file. Kimiko moved over the petite human and handed her a Padd. “I need the new arrivals added to the board and I would like you and Dr Samas to reprioritize the board based on the new info.” Kimiko flicked a few keys. “It looks like theater two is going to be open in a few minutes, I need Signos slotted in next, depending. After that Mr. Serrano needs to be priority.” Kimiko flicked though first board to for a moment to see if it looked like anything demanded her attention. The battle had been a while ago and most of the injured had been located and brought to the sickbays. She argued with herself, part of her wanted to jump in the middle of a trauma and run it, but it was not her position anymore, at least not now. She needed to on the outside, to make sure the wheels stayed on the department. She looked down at her uniform. The uniform was created to be resistant to stains and tearing, but somehow she managed to cover herself with blood from her knees to neck. There were numerous small holes in her uniform, including a small patch of melted uniform at her side that appeared to be a near-miss with a phaser or superheated rock fragments. A wave of nauseating fatigue blurred her vision. ~Not important~ she thought as she took a steadying breath She turned to the yeomen and stated. “I would like the updates in five minutes. I need to change and collect myself, I’ll be back in five minutes, if I am needed I will be in my office.” “Yes, sir” the yeoman replied as the CMO turned to her office. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Sick Bay - ATAC/SC Ensign (jg) Jessica Signos- 1930) That's the problem with rare gene mutations, you just never know, how they are gonna react, or more importantly who has one. In the chaos the consumed the sickbay these kind of details were easy to lose. However that does not mean the effects were less acute. Jessica laid there, has the transfusion was started, and in her lucid state she was barely aware of what went on around her. It took only a few moments for Jessica to fell the effects of the transfusion. Everything was going well at first, and started to feel better. However that only lasted a few moments has the Signos Thread took effect. The protein shield not only rejected the blood but attacked it out right. Has her body battle the intruding blood aimed at saving her life, sensors all around her sounded, has Jessica found herself once again closing in on death's door. Has her temperature shot up and a deadly chill took her body. Jessica cringed and pulled herself into the fetal position "cold, so cold..." She felt cold even though she was burning up. “What is going on” Jessica heard Kimiko asked, has she shoved people out of the way and seizing control, of a bad situation that was quickly spinning out of control. Kimiko kept her cool well enough and orders were given and soon Jessica felt her body stabilized and level out. Jessica was glad for the Doctors quick thinking has her body began to return to normal and with the stress of the situation abated Jessica fell into a deep well deserved sleep. The last think she remembered was someone taking a sample of her blood for further analysis. (reply none needed but welcome) (posted by Matthew Locke) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – CMO Office - CMO Lt jg Kimiko Ichijo - Day 4 – 1942) Kimiko walked into her office, the lights seemed a bit too bright and warm. The doctor knew that that was one of the signs of shock. She felt light-headed and ready to collapse. “I don’t have the time for this.” She told herself and then stated. “Computer, I need a three minute countdown.” [Affirmative] Kimiko removed her uniform as she headed to the office’s shower. A few moments later she was resting her head against the wall as the water coursed down her body. The pain from the burn faded from a sharp stab to a dull ache as got used to the very hot water. She willed her mind clear, as the water loosened her muscles and for a few precious seconds she was at peace. The alarm chimed as the three minute period ended. The doctor turned off the water and stepped out of the shower. Toweling herself roughly, she cursed mentally as she scraped the cloth against her injuries. She wrung out her hair, wound it into a tight bun and tucked it under a surgical cap. After donning a uniform that she kept in the office, Kimiko stepped up to the replicator. She mentally calculated dosages and interactions and ordered a mixture of anti-radiation meds, antibiotics and stimulants. She loaded the hypo and took a deep breath. ~Physician, heal thyself~ Kimiko injected herself and for a moment nothing happened, then it felt like she got kicked in the side by a mule. The room got brighter by several magnitudes and the hushed whisper of the ventilation could barely be made out over the pounding of her pulse, it felt as if her blood consisted of glass filaments that worked in and out of her veins. As the endorphins kicked in the pain faded, her attention was focused, she was no longer tired; in fact, she felt a little exhilarated. It took only few minutes to get her breathing and pulse under control. ~No wonder this is very easy to abuse, I could get used to this.~ She looked around marveling at her new found clarity and seemly endless reserve of energy. Checking the chronometer on the desk, Kimiko noticed that only seven minutes had passed since she came into the office. The doctor walked out of the office and looked over the activity; it was hard to believe that this was the same room that she retreated from. It was almost like a dance, in corner Dr walker and his team were performing a Fallensberg with a nearly amputated leg. In bay 5, the team was grafting a skin transplant on a 30% burn. ~Too many cooks~ Kimiko told herself as she made her way to the admin console where the aCMO and yeoman were waiting. “Lars” Kimiko greeted and took the offered padd. She browsed through the report. “It looks like the triage clinic is standing room only and with us chasing after a fight, I don’t want any more warm bodies in here then I can avoid.” She highlighted about a dozen names. “Dismiss these with instructions and supplies, cabin restriction for non-critical personal” “As for these three” the doctor checked several more names. “Run blood and metabolism batteries, if they are green, then the same as above” “Lars” Kimiko turned to the Bajorion “I would like you to oversee the clinic and try to get as many people out of here as possible, I’ve got a feeling that were are going to need the bed space and hands, once we catch the Borg or they catch us.“ The tall man nodded and left and Ichijo turned to Johnson. “Signos?” “I believe that she is going into surgery, once they up her blood pressure” The yeomen supplied Kimiko nodded and turned to the padd. “I would like to see what we can do about converting…” A tone sounded from the console and a red aura surrounded bay three. Kimiko hurried to the bay and noticed that a medic was franticly flicking keys on the console. Another doctor was standing over Signos examining her arm. “What is going on” Kimiko asked, itching to shove people out of the way and seizing control. “Acute hemolytic reaction” Kimiko’s eyes widened, if the system was compromised due to damage or something else, then that would make things very bad, indeed. She saw that the transfusion was stopped and asked. “System error?” “No, blood was typed and crossed, the artificial blood was checked and cleared” the medic stated. “Well, until we know what is happening inside of her, no more transfusions.” The doctor shook her head. This was a most inconvenient patient and it was only the fact the she was built like old Darvian hauler and the Ancestor’s own grace that she was even alive. ~Pressors for blood pressure, fluids for volume, lasixs and steroids for the kidneys, and ESA to stimulate blood production~ Kimiko thought and gave the orders. “Also sample the blood for later, I want to know what when wrong and how we can avoid it in the future” Kimiko added. She watched as the security officer stabilized. ~But for how long~ The doctor thought. (Reply any) (Postet by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Borg Pyramid, Regeneration Alcove, ATT Commander Matthew McLaren, Day 4 - 2005) Matthew would consider himself in pain if it wasn't for the fact that he knew that the human brain had no pain receptors. Instead he understood that the impulses that his brain was interpreting as pain was a result of the Borg Nanoprobes as they deteriorated the Neural Subspace Processor that resided in his brain. It was disconcerting, a feeling almost as if your very existence was unwinding one strand of DNA at a time. He found himself fighting more and more stubbornly to hold on to whatever aspects of humanity he had remaining, and the once quiet solitude of his own mind was being slowly replaced by the distant but dull roar of the concerted voices of the Borg Collective. He tried to focus on useless details, in case the Borg were able to already read his mind. He thought about his time on Iradon, knowing that the information would be useless to them since the planet was in another universe for at least another thousand years. His first encounter with Arania, the repairs of the Ramses as well as the death of Mostatco there during his frenzied fight with Matthew. He thought about his parents in Texas, his honeymoon there, the house that he'd built for his new wife and he to reside in. Foot ball had been a favorite distraction, since it was so absolutely useless to the borg that it was a favorite remembrance of his. But he knew that he'd only be able to keep up the charade a little longer. In fact, he could almost feel the worm like insinuations of the collective trying to pierce the fog-edged reaches of his conscious mind. He was trying to be analytical about it, to clinically study the effects as they were happening. Of course that kept him occupied as he tried to determine if his observations of the occurrences were in fact biasing them. It was somewhere in the middle of that discussion that Matthew began to feel a presence. Psychologists had once, a long time ago, determined that the human mind could suffer from the 'God Presence' if a powerful enough electromagnetic field was applied to the left temporal lobe of the brain. It was a strong sense of not being alone, sometimes accompanied by the presence or belief of a presence that could be considered omniscient. Matthew had never experienced such a presence before, and he wasn't a believer in anything except hard science and Mathematics, so the sudden feeling of a presence was both disarming as well as alarming. His eyes were closed, they had been since he had been directed into the regeneration alcove. so he wouldn't normally be able to see any sort of manifestation of any sort, real or imagined. Yet there, solidifying at the edges of his sight, even against the backdrop of his closed eyelids, he began to notice a somewhat indistinct luminescent fog that slowly coalesced into an almost ghostly image of Detron Trei. It took Matthew's logical mind a moment to consider the myriad of possibilities that this manifestation could represent, or what it might be, if it wasn't in fact some sort of spiritual presence. :Detron?: Matthew thought, :Is that you?: (reply Trei) :How is it possible? Are you..are we dead?: (reply Trei) :I think I'm on the Borg ship, the Pyramid. They...have taken my body from me. I can't control it. It's only a matter of time before they take my ability to think: (reply Trei) :Tell the Captain. Tell him that this has something to do with the Denver. The collective is looking for a weapon that the Denver found, some sort of sphere.: (reply Trei) :I can hear some of their voices. They're getting stronger, so I don't know if they can hear me or not yet. But I catch fragments of conversation, stray thoughts.: Matthew replied. (reply Trei) :Tell Bob. Tell Bob it's not his fault. Tell him I know that it's not his fault. He'll blame himself. Tell him to tell Arania I'm sorry and that I love her.: (reply Trei) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Brig - TAC/SC Lieutenant(SG) Detron Trei - 20.10) Detron closed his eyes and opened his mind. He sent his spirit out of his body in search of McClaren. After a few minutes, he detected McClaren on the Borg Pyramid. Detron focused his thoughts to make them clear and strong. Matt sensed his thoughts and tried to send a mental message to him. Matt asked if it was him. Matt also relayed information to Detron about the Denver. Matt also relayed his regret for not being able to say goodbye to Ariana and gave that task to Detron. It was his turn to talk. : Yes Matt it is me. I will tell everyone that needs to be told what needs to be told. Ariana has some resentment for you leaving her but she has moved on. I will tell her goodbye as gentle as I can. As far as Lorimar thinking about blaming himself for anything, I believe he does not feel that burden. Can you tell me anything that can kill the Borg a weakness they have? : (Reply McClaren) (Posted by Edward) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Security Office- SO- Ensign Mike Rosenbauer Day 4-2302) Mike, along with the other members of the away team, had spent more time in sick bay than he would have liked. He had been fortunate tin that he was only suffering from Radiation sickness and not some of the more severe injuries that had plagued some of the other members of the team. It was a cruel joke how lady luck could sometimes make a man an invalid or leave him completely untouched on the field of battle. Now he along with other senior Rosenante security officers had gathered in Raschen's office to discuss the next stage of the operation. Considering that their ship was presently chasing a Borg Pyramid through a temporal rift to only God knew where, it had been decided that the next step was to plan for the inevitable confrontation between the ships for a second time. As security officers, they knew it was only a matter of time before the Borg Boarded their ship and went to work assimilating her crew. "Okay folks, let's get down to the point. I have not officially been cleared for duty, but we are going to need every possible gun in the fight." There was a slight pause, "Secondly, I have not submitted my official report in to Commander Sullivan as of yet. Part of that report will be the death of Lieutenant Major Shea." Shea had been the pilot of the Runabout that had undertaken the first mission. She had been killed on the surface by the Borg, after bravely leading a mass of Borg away from the survivors of the crash. She was most assuredly a hero of the highest order. "Any comments thus far anyone?" Raschen asked. Everyone just shook their heads silently, or failed to voice any questions that they had at the moment. They all knew that Shea and Raschen were friends and had served together for a long time. Besides, everyone knew he was right, walking wounded would be needed soon enough. "We are about to have round 2 of this fight. After what I saw on the planet, I want us to re-evaluate our battle plan. If I were the enemy, I would attack and board this ship as soon as it came out of the vortex and its shields are down." Mike nodded. He fully agreed, it made the most sense. "I know how I would do it. The primary hull will be split in half. The starboard half will be section 1, port 2, and the secondary hull will be 3." "Focusing on key areas of course." Mike added as an afterthought. "Rosenbauer, Nunez, and Sanok; you three choose which section you want to be in charge of. I want you to make your plans to defend your section Without, I say again, without any support from the other two. Questions?" "So to be clear sir, are you ordering us not to request or grant requests for assistance from the other sections?" Nunez asked, "But instead to run a completely independent counter-boarding operation?" ~Good Question~ Mike stated mentally. (reply Raschen) "In that case I'll take whatever is left over after Nunez and Sanok select their areas." Mike said. "Then I'll take the Starboard section, secondary hull." Nunez replied, "If that's alright with you sir?" she added addressing Sanok. (reply Sanok) Once that was settled, Raschen continued. "La Croix, I want you to select a team. You are going to be in charge of the safety for Wang and his cyber-crime unit." Lucien simply nodded. "What are we gonna be doing, Sir?" Wang asked. "I want your team to try and hack into the Borg and feed them false commands." Raschen answered. ~Hack the Borg?~ mike thought, but didn't voice his concern. "One other thing section leaders; I am going to get with the CMO about getting medics into each of your teams." "Last chance for questions. If I didn't answer something clearly enough or not at all; this is the time to get it clarified." Chance finished saying. "I've no questions sir, but I would like to make it clear that my unit already has a qualified field Medic in Saint Jean." Mike added. "So to be clear sir, are you ordering us not to request or grant requests for assistance from the other sections?" Nunez asked, "But instead to run a completely independent counter-boarding operation?" Chance went into another small coughing fit. As he wiped more blood from his mouth, he answered Marta's question "I want you to run completely independent operations with the idea that there is no help to be had. You are each starting off out numbered, and bottled in. Break the bottle and I don't care how." "In that case I'll take whatever is left over after Nunez and Sanok select their areas." Mike said. The reports were essentially a continuation of the last few hours - rotten! Robbie Smith and Yalix were beat - it showed in their faces. His must be showing the same things. "That's about it folks. One last thing" Tom said taking a big breath to make what he had to say easier. He knew it wasn't going to make it easier. Looking at each officer and NCO intently, he began again. "We undoubtedly will be boarded by the Borg" again Tom looked at those present wondering who would be alive tomorrow? The staff groaned and looked scared as he knew was. Trying to bolster his friends, he continued. Tom dove in. "Should you encounter crew mates who are assimilated you have to decide what to do. It is my opinion that the kindest thing would be to terminate them. This is my opinion only and not an order". (Reply: any ops) He held up his hand to signal silence, he started again. "We have a lot of folks counting on us. I have the best people in the fleet to serve with and around me. Seeing no replies or questions he said "Dismissed" and left to get back to work. She was still dressed in the light blue medical gown that Medical still preferred for surgery patients. She stepped into the compartment and made her way over to the desk where the senior officers were assembled. Chance made introductions, although Mike hardly needed one. After all, he'd learned her name quickly enough after they'd lifted off from he planet and O'Neill had made it pretty clear. Once the introductions and pleasantries were completed, Chance turned into his normal hard-assed self. Of course, he had a point and no one would want to call foul on the fact that he was technically in the same situation. "Good." Raschen continued, "The Borg showed their ability to Logically and objectively take territory and hold their lines admirably. That being said..." And he let that train of thought just end there. "They are being used in a very unBorg-like Military fashion." Mike completed the thought. Chance however never missed a beat. "The Rosenante-class is based on the Sovereign -class. As a privateer, my first 3 objectives would be to take both computer cores, and Main Engineering. There is a core in section 1 and another in 2. Who has those?" "I've got section Two" Nunez replied. "I'll make the secondary core a top priority." "And I've got section three which includes Main Engineering," Mike replied, "Which mean the main computer core defense falls to Sanok." (reply Sanok, Signos, Raschen) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Security Office- ATAC/SC Ensign (jg) Jessica Signos- 2342) Attempting to be a gentleman, Raschen did introductions, and then called up her bio on his computer. "Well Jessica, do you have any special skills that will be of use in this fight but that are not in your bio?" She fought off the slight dizziness that over came her, and just has Rashen could not talk while he was hacking up blood, neither could Jessica while she was still coming out of the effect of the pain medications that made her wounds and the needed surgeries to repair her body in such a short span of time possible. "Ensign, if you need to sit down, I understand. But answer my question." Chance said in a harsh tone thinking ~come on; if you can't hold yourself together for a meeting, then I have no use for you~ She smiled, the kind of female grin that every male knows, and tries best to avoid. "I'm sorry Sir, I was just about to get to that. But for the time being I rather stand and leave the sitting to the ones who truly need it." She continued not leaving room for one's interjection. "Has for any special skills, has far has I know my file should be up to date." Their was a cold lavender gleam behind those eyes. ~ You have no ideal what secrets this mind hold, Secrets that are on a need to know basis and right now you don't need to know that.~ Jessica's other spoke coldly in Jessica's mind. "Okay then. Sit down and help out tuning our plans and we will find a spot for you. Fair enough?" Raschen said as he wiped blood off his mouth again. "Has you say. Sir" She reluctantly sat listening to what experience Rashen brought to the table. "Good." Raschen continued, "The Borg showed their ability to Logically and objectively take territory and hold their lines admirably. That being said..." And he let that train of thought just end there. ~ Boy he's a sharp one ~ the voice in Jessica snapped. ~ Shut up ~ Was Jessica's mental reply "The Rosenante-class is based on the Sovereign -class. Suddenly though her other self fell very quite and still in Jessica's mind. For her other self never mentioned it's name to Jessica. "And I've got section three which includes Main Engineering," Mike replied, "Which mean the main computer core defense falls to Sanok." Jessica took in what was said. It sounded a solid enough battle plan. "Do you want me and a small team to act has a reactionary force or an assault force to bait the Borg and lead them away from these key area's. It's not much I know but it might be helpful to throw some hit and run tactics, force them to protect their flank and spread their forces." She looked toward Rashen. Still pointing at Signos he addressed the others "Wang, get your team ready. Your battlefield will be different than ours my friend. Lucien, Sanok, and Mike; get your battle plans together and tour teams ready. I want to check them out early enough that everyone is on station and ready when we come out of the vortex. Marta, I want you and our guest here to stay back for a moment. That's all." (Reply any iyw) Once everyone but Nunez and Signos departed, Raschen closed the door to his office. He then walked over and sat on his desk. As he looked at Signos, the warmth of the smirk on his face was not shared by the sadistic gleam in his eyes. The fires in his eyes didn't cool any. He had a hunch that she was still holding something back, but all he said was "Report back to Sickbay ensign." She was honest with him, has far has she knew. All her training from the federation plus her martial art and dance skills were listed with in the confines if that file. Has far as she knew it was up to date, so when Lt. Rashen opted to open his mouth and Jessica was quite taken back. "Ensign, let me start off by saying that I don't give a rat's @$* about your past. When I asked about your skill set, you lied to me and I will not have that in MY Security Department. Is that how you do business on the Boudicca?" Was what he told her. She was quite for a moment before she chose to speak. "Sir, permission to speak freely." Nrpg: The rest of this will be assuming that permission is granted... Also Jessica has no clue on what Lily is trained in and what she can do So Jessica was telling him the truth has far has she knows. She took a deep breath for she knew she was not likely to get the chance to speak again. "First of all Sir, how business is handled on the Boudicca is not how we choose to see business done. At least we get results with out having to reduce ourselves to self-righteous, arrogant, @$$ to see a job done. Second has far has my skill sets are concerned. I was honest with you, I don't see where this is the time with the Borg breathing down our necks is the time to be playing childish games like that. If you know something I don't please enlighten me. If you are making comment about my medical condition that is medicals concern not yours. What you should be asking yourself is this how business gets done on the Rose where one has to berate his subordinates to feel like a man. "I will Not unknowingly play a wild card. If I am going to make the most of your abilities in this fight then I need to know what they are. So what are they; and don't You freaking dare think about lying to me again." "I did not lie to you." Jessica said forcefully not backing down. Raschen sat up straight, he was still focused on Jessica and simply nodded. Jessica saw the fires in his eyes fires that were mirrored with in her own eyes. If she was holding something from him she knew not what it was, and that was probably the most vexing thing about this. Jessica knew that Lt. Rashen was no fool, and from she heard from rumors around the ship was that he was a far man and a good leader. It was rather what did he find. "Report back to Sickbay ensign." "Aye Sir, probably the best move for all." She voiced calmed, has her anger slowly faded. Only to be replaced with dozens of unanswered questions. She turned and made her way to the door. She stopped briefly only to add. "I am sorry sir, I mean no disrespect or offense. The Rose is a fine ship and made only finer by your leadership. I may not like your methods but it does get the job done." She turned toward him and smiled a gleam in now lavender eyes. "Just don't go digging to far." She disappeared out the door and possibly from existence for if anyone was to follow all they would see is empty hallway for as far has the eye could see. She honestly had very little idea exactly what it was that Chance was going on about, although she knew the man well enough to know that he probably had his reasons. To say it had proved an interesting exchange would have been an understatement. Marta was just trying to figure out what the hell was happening by the time Chance dismissed the Boudicca's assistant tactical chief. Once the doors had closed behind Signos, Marta realized that they were alone in the compartment. "Well, what's your opinion?" "Well from the reports that were filed, Signos is not your ordinary little girl, metaphysically speaking, of course. Did you notice the change in her eye color; and a distinct change in her body language and voice timbre? It's spooky, but it was almost as if there were two people residing in that skull of hers. (reply none) Daniel Greene ======================================================= (USS Rosenante, Outside Primary Computer Core, Upper Level, Deck 11, Lieutenant jg Sanok, 0002) After being rescued from Dovek by the Rosenante, Sanok and the others that had been on the various teams had gone directly to sickbay. Most were walking wounded, but several were in bad shape, most notably, Signos. The medical staff had their work cut out for them, and though it appeared that they were overwhelmed, the fast-paced order that seemed as though it was utter chaos, had gotten the job done. No one that made it back was lost. Other than exposure from radiation, which had been resolved through drugs, Sanok had only an injured leg, so he insisted on being one of the last to be treated. Since his Vulcan home world was similar to Dovek, he had not been stricken with the early affects of dehydration, as many of the others had been. It turned out that he had a partially torn ligament in his knee. Treatment in a regenerator had restored most of his mobility, but he would still be hampered if another melee with the Borg occurred. After sickbay, Sanok had gone to his quarters. He bathed and donned his meditation robes. Much had happened in his time on Dovek, so he would need to meditate to clear himself. Much had happened to all of them. They had been forced to kill, and it was certain to have lasting affects on them, no matter their training or their attitude towards the Borg. He knew it had affected him, so he was taking advantage of the short amount of free time he had to begin the healing process. Lieutenant Raschen had called a security meeting for 2300, so Sanok made sure he was finished, changed into a uniform, and at the meeting on time. A defense plan had been discussed in case the Borg boarded the ship, and Sanok was given charge of protecting the primary computer core. A dilemma indeed. There were two entrances to the core; the upper level on deck 11, and the lower on 12. The core wasn't in a dead end corridor, so he and his teams would need to defend two levels, and two different directions of access. He was staring and thinking, trying to devise some sort of plan that any chance to succeed. He had to find a way to maximize the small advantage they would have over the superior numbers the Borg could bring against them. He remembered something from long ago. "Ensign Marks." "Sir!" The young Human snapped to attention in front of Sanok. "We do not know when we will emerge from the vortex, so time is critical," said Sanok. "I have something for you and your people to do. You must move as quickly as you can." "Sir?" As Sanok explained his plan, Marks initially got a surprised look on his face, but after a short time, it turned into a smile. Perhaps they would have a chance. Through the haze of artificial Noradrenaline, the young doctor could feel the exhaustion loom like a wall cloud just at the horizon. She debated about using another dose, but decided against it for the time being. She may be able to crawl up on the couch in her office for a few hours if they can stay in this time-whatever for a little while longer. Kimiko walked over to the console and reviewed the board; there were a couple a conspicuous blanks. Both Raschen and Rosenbauer were on the away mission and it looked like they were signed into sickbay, but other than the initial anti-rad med, there was no listing of examination or treatment. Both records were closed, so they were no longer in sickbay. She looked at the initials of the doctor who signed off. “Ichijo to Hartley.” A sleepy voice sounded through her comm. =^= Hartley here. =^= “I would like your presence here in main sickbay, immediately.” =^= umm.. yes ma’am. =^= he replied The CMO spent a few minutes reviewing notes and signing off on orders. Shortly a harried-looking older man rushed into sickbay. “Yes, lieutenant, what is wrong?” He asked “I would like to talk to you, privately.” Kimiko stated, after closing the program that she was running, she stated to the shift doctor. “I will be in my office if I am needed.” She walked to her office with Dr Hartley trailing behind her; Ichijo entered the office and turned to the newcomer. “I want to understand why I am looking at holes in the air, where both Officers Paschen and Rosenbauer should be?” Dr Hartley looked confused “I’m sorry, ma’am” “I see that both of the individuals were signed in, but that’s it, the files were closed. No tests run, no treatment plan, nothing.” Kimiko stared at her subordinate, after a moment she added. “I am waiting” “Well, I believe that lieutenant Raschen just left while I was working with another patient” The doctor supplied. “And you sent no one after him?” Kimiko retorted “Well, no. I was busy” “Fine, what about Rosenbauer?” Kimiko was getting annoyed “He wanted to leave.” Hartley said in a small voice “He wanted to leave?” Kimiko replied incredulously. “They all want to leave, no one likes sickbay.” “He was very insistent” “Did he threaten you with bodily harm?” The CMO asked “No” Dr Ichijo shook her hear slowly. “This is what is going to happen, you are, physically, going to track both of our errant officers down and ask them politely to return to sickbay. If they refuse, then contact me. Later we are going to go over the proper procedures for leaving AMA. Do you understand?” The doctor nodded. “I’m sorry?” Kimiko questioned “Yes, I understand” “Then you are dismissed” The doctor motioned towards the door. The man scuttled out and left Kimiko to her thoughts. ~You might have handled that better~ her conscious offered. She leaned against her desk. Gods she was tired, sick of the pain and blood and death. And if what has happened wasn’t bad enough, they were chasing the Borg down for another helping. She was tired of putting people back together, just so that they can run out and get injured again. Maybe this time they would be slower or a little less lucky and there would be nothing to put back together. ~This is what I signed up for and if I was not here then there may not be someone to heal them~ Kimiko walked over to the couch and sat down. Reaching down, she removed her shoes and tucked her feet under her as she leaned back into the cushions. “Computer activate happy.morning.Ichijo in two hours” [Acknowledged] Kimiko nestled into the cushions and drifted to sleep. (Reply none) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Science Lab 2 - FO - Commander T'Larah Sullivan & Science Officer - Ensign Andrew Maddox - 0802) The ordeal in the transporter room didn't take long. With Chief Fuller there the team was inoculated with hyronalin and promptly sent to their stations or sickbay where appropriate. Maddox had insisted on returning to his station because he had an 'idea'. T'Larah had misgivings but with Chief Fuller's assistance and recommendation, and a whole liter and a half of replenishment with IV fluid, Sullivan allowed him to resume his post to pursue his 'idea'. She came to check on that idea before returning to the bridge simulation. She entered the Science Lab to see Maddox hunched over a sort of microscope looking device. His face illuminated by the light issuing from the binocular eye piece. The young ensign seemed oblivious to the Commander's entrance into his work space. It was obvious to T'Larah, this is what he wanted to show her. "Okay Mister Maddox, what have you got? I have to update the Captain on your findings." she stated stoically. Any human officer would have probably been annoyed at that point, and allowed it to show in their demeanor, however T'Larah's Vulcan heritage steeled her against showing hers. "This way, over here." he said, indicating the Commander look into the secondary eye piece. She approached the scientist's work, but was interrupted by what sounded like to her practiced ear, weapons fire. The lights dimmed dramatically, both officers lost their footing. T'Larah looked up and could barely make out Maddox's shadowy form in the dim lighting. "Are you alright Ensign?" she asked. "Yeah I'm good." he replied They both dusted themselves off and stood. In the dim lighting three green shimmers appeared, then were replaced by tactical drones. The klaxon immediately sounded the intruder alert. Andrew's eyes got wide as saucers, T'Larah sprung into action grabbing her personal phaser from her belt she fired at the maximum setting striking the nearest drone in the chest. Type Is didn't carry a very high setting, heat II was about it. It was enough, though for this first drone. The sustained beam from her palm phaser heated the Borg's chest piece to a yellowish-orange glow, it didn't destroy his armor but it steam cooked his organics in their own juices. The unit collapsed to the ground steam issuing from it's components. T'Larah grabbed Maddox and started dragging him out the door. "My work!" he protested, as the remaining two units shambled towards them. "Leave it that's an order, Ensign!" she said and shoved Maddox out the door. She knew the next drone would be ready for another phaser blast, so she set her type I to overload. A lound whine began building volume as the drones approached. The lead unit reached for her, she stashed the small time-bomb into a bundle of shield coils that came out of the drone's right axillary. T'Larah used the swinging of the cybernetic arm to spin the drone around 180 degrees and kicked him in the back with a front kick that sent him sprawling into his comrade. She closed the door. "Computer, security lock on this door, authorization, Sullivan two-two-seven-three." she ordered. [Confirmed security lock.] chirped the computer. The sound of the phaser exploding could be heard from the other side of the bulk head, the two drones were surely dead. "That phaser probably just destroyed my work didn't it?" Maddox asked a tinge of regret in his voice. "Yes but you are still alive, and not one of them." she answered. (Reply Ensign Nunez) "Yes Ensign, I am well aware of that. Let the Captain know I am going to meet up with the nearest security team unless he has a problem with it." The darkened room was lit ineffectively by partial emergency lighting; the occasional flashes of arching electricity and a fire burning at the control runs across the bay allowed her only a small field of vision into the body that she was working on. There was not a person in sight, but the sporadic whine of phaser fire told her that she was not alone. The phaser fire also told her that the enemy was still among them. All of that faded to insignificance as she focused on the body in front of her. She knew it was human and still, barely, living despite its grievous wounds. That was all she knew about her patient, except that she need to repair the tear in its lung. With every suture the closed flesh gained a metallic sheen. A tiny light flickered, like a firefly, lower in its cavity. The wound needed her attention as she focused back on the lung. The tear was gone; the lung was healthy pink except for a small patch of metal that had small wires protruding from it. The flickering light became a laser attached to a face that she knew that she recognized but could not name, emerged from the darkness. The medical officer found herself in a corridor that was only vaguely lit. She knew that she was still on the Rosenante; however the ship was like as she has never seen it. There were open doorways where the doors were torn out of their recesses by a giant’s hand, rents were torn into the bulkhead and places where the structure were melted. The corridor was strewn with debris of the stricken ship. Kimiko picked her way through the rubble and heard a voice pleading for help somewhere in the darkness. The phaser fire had ended and it was silent except for that voice. The doctor walked on, glancing through the open doorways, looking for the disembodied voice, her searching growing more frantic as time passed. Then she became aware of a noise behind her. It was footsteps; a slow, mechanical tromp. The voice had disappeared and the footsteps became louder. She was frozen with fear and her heart was racing as form slowly coalesced out of the darkness. The lights that were a part of it did nothing to illuminate its body as the shadowed figure approached her, a laser mounted to its shoulder swung back and forth as if it was seeking a target. The figure drew nearer, the measure of its footsteps never changing. She tried to move but her feet felt as if they weighed a ton. The glow from an electrical fire lit his features enough for her to see the cold dead eyes of her captain” The footsteps dissolved into the insistent chirping of her badge. Her head throbbed as her awareness swayed. The light of her cabin hurt her eyes and she felt nauseous. The com chirped again. She tapped the badge to open the line. The shockwave from the exploding pyramid had been brutal when it had struck the leading edge of the already seriously damaged Rosenante. Things were only going to get worse going forward. with the Borg aboard both ships, it was only a matter of when not if, they had lost this battle. "Nunez, where are the Borg?" "I'm showing Borg biosigns on decks one, four, six and seven, nine through twelve, fifteeen, eighteen and twenty-eight." "How many?" salid asked quickly. "Unable to..." suddenly an alarm sounded at her console. "I've lost all internal sensors." Ahmed grimaced. "Seal off those areas, withdraw all crew from non-critical areas in those sections, send security to hold main sections. Seal all hatches to allow access with internal security biosignal confirmation only, add the Boudicca's senior staff to that access list as well as any other personnel of theirs that we may have." "Aye captain." "Mister Jackson, take the bridge security team and Mister Nunez and intercept the Borg on this deck. Do not allow them to overrun my bridge Mister Jackson." (reply Durand) "I'd love top give you back your officers captain, but I have no transporters at present. Since both ships are currently conducting counter boarding operations, I suggest that we hard dock the two ships together so that we can combine resources, and treat this as a single battlefield rather than two. What are your thoughts on this?" (reply Durand) "Understood. My primary docking hub is located on deck eight. I currently have reports of Borg on decks seven and nine, but none on deck eight. Admittedly, we've lost our internal sensors, so there could be a risk. If you'll have a security team at your docking hatch, I'll send Signos and a team to ours." "Very good Captain. We're maneuvering to dock as we speak. Salid out." (reply Durand iyw) "Mister Dralar, perform maneuvers to dock with the Boudicca. You have free helm. [Intruder Alert Intruder Alert] All heads looked up as if they could see the person making the announcement. And following they all looked around engineering for the invaders. With a quick look to his left Jacobs noticed an Ensign passing out weapons from the engineering weapons locker. Looking down at his phaser Jacobs loaded and checked power levels to make sure he was prepared for the upcoming in person fight. Looking up he saw Lieutenant Matrix arming up as well. Everyone from the away teams had experienced extensive radiation from the planet and the medical staff on board the Rosenante did an amazing job at curing and healing all those who had sustained injuries while off ship. Romanoff was unable to make it back to the Boudicca and saw fit to lend his services in the Astrometrics lab on board the Rosenante. Power reserves were running extremely low in the lab since all available power on board had been distributed to the weapons and shields. Multiple scans run by Romanoff from Astrometrics displayed a 3-dimensional layout of the Dovek system. What interested Romanoff was Dovek II in particular, it matched the previous scans of Dovek II prior to entering the temporal vortex except for the fact that the mineral composition of the planet dated the planet thousand of years younger. This information only proved that the temporal vortex had released the ships into the past. ~Looks like the Borg were really pissed we blew up that damn sphere. All the work and sacrifice we made just for them to come back in time and still get what they were after. Well we are still here and still alive, we are not going to let them succeed. Just goes to show how smart these damn Borg are getting, they always had a contingency plan~ With a jolt of the ship the power momentarily failed and the Astrometrics lab went black. As back up power returned power to some of the systems the intruder alert alarm sounded. Almost simultaneously a banging began on the other side of the double doors as they didn't open automatically. As the pounding increased with intensity Romanoff had little time to react; he grabbed the phaser from his hip, pointed it in the direction of the entrance, and hoped for some kind of miracle to save him. The double doors collapsed under the pressure of the two borg drones beating down on it. Romanoff froze and had no idea what to do. He noticed that one of the two Borg was a newly assimilated drone from the Rosenante crew and was not equipped with the Borg exoskeleton as the other one was. Thinking he had the advantage he aimed his phaser at the tactically inferior drone and fired. Shaking with fear Nickolas missed and his shot actually overloaded a power control relay at the lab entrance. The overloading explosion immediately took out the drone not protected by Borg technology and knocked the other drone to the floor. The drone twitched on the ground as Romanoff jumped over a work station and stomped the scull of the drone to insure he was terminated. ~You idiot you missed. Lucky prick, its probably not going to happen again. Do not miss again, or I will kill you myself.~ Walking back to the main workstation in Astrometrics lab, Romanoff downloaded the information he had to a PADD and set off to give it to Captain Salid or whoever could use it in the command center on Holodeck 1. All in all he had managed to beam nearly 600 borg drones between the two ships and another hundred to the surface of the planet, so that assimilation of the sphere could be achieved quickly and effectively. The calculations all pointed to the fact that the battle was his. They had quickly seized the Antimatter control and storage aboard the federation starship Rosenante. It was an extraordinarily simple task to remove all computer control of the units from the starship commander and resume complete manual control of those components. The storage pods were his, and with them the power to use as he saw fit. Already his drones were reporting a significant increase in their numbers, a few dozen new members of the collective had been acquired and the exponential nature of the Borg recruitment would quickly assure that any resistance remaining aboard either ship would be overwhelmed sooner rather than later. {{Assimilation of the environmental controls is proceeding quickly}} voices from the collective assured him. Regeneration alcoves were also already under construction. He doubted that this ship would be able to withstand his assault for very long. {{Disable the self destruct systems}} he commanded. {{Affirmative}} Aboard the Boudicca, things were going just as smoothly, the suddenness and the forcefulness of the attack had left the Federation starships unprepared to properly defend their starships. He stepped over to watch a couple of the Borg working on building an alcove. One of them was a recent addition to the collective and although they had complete control of his body, his mind was still resistant to assimilation. Even with the computer control device in his brain being eaten away, he still resisted, even while he was being made to comply with the wishes of the Collective. It was a unique experience for the collective. They had never encountered a species that had managed to remain cognizant even while their body was completely under Borg control. As such, the collective had chosen to observe the transformation of the individual's mental abilities using only the nanoprobes instead of simply removing the offending device surgically. The individual named McLaren, a name that had been discovered when one of the Rosenante crew had recently been assimilated was proving to be a very inquisitive individual, worthy of total assimilation. {{Is this the nature of Hope?}} he asked the collective. {{Unknown, Insufficient data}} The collective responded. {{We must test define the phenomenon. To do so will ease the assimilation of species 5618. Bring me a subject unassimilated. I will conduct an experiment to determine the nature of hope and how it can be destroyed.}} {{This could prove beneficial}} In an instant he located a pair of engineers inside one of the damaged pylons. {{There,}} he indicated mentally to the collective, {{Bring me one of them, do not assimilate it. I will question it first.}} NRPG: Heads Up Morgan, Eian has now been targeted for capture, but not assimilation yet. With another thought, he tapped into the assimilated ship wide intercom on the Rosenante and then did the same on the Boudicca as well. "I am Volus of Borg. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. You will survive to service us. Your Biological distinctiveness and technology will be adapted for our use. It is only a matter of time before you are all assimilated. Surrender and you will be assimilated into the collective where you will continue as an entity for eternity. Fight and your unique experiences, knowledge and attributes will be lost forever. We are the Borg and we will never stop." He closed the channel and watched as the new drone at his feet rose and was led to the closest regeneration alcove to be enhanced. ~I will succeed here.~ he thought with a sense of individual pride. Caliel out.” She said, stepping out of the transporter room, phaser in hand. =^=Understood, Salid out.=^= “Well, looks like the turbolift is out of the question...” she said to herself, peering down the corridor. A long Borg drone stomped towards her, at a slow and monotonous pace. She turned the other way, and sprinted towards the nearest geoffrey’s tube, closing the door behind her, and sealing it. ~that’ll give me a few minutes at least. Now to find Deck 9...~ She crawled along the tube, not planning on getting lost in the bowels of a foreign ship. ~I don’t even know my way around the Boudicca yet... and I’m crawling through the Rosenante. The force field was deactivated on his cell by An officer on the Rosenante he formally hasn't met yet. Detron ran out of the Brig intending to acknowledge Science officer Vanik later. He made his way down the corridor only to find a Borg drone blocking his path. He said under his breath, "If it a fight you want, Lets get it on." Detron lunged at the drone who tried to smash him on the shoulder. He side stepped that maneuver and pressed up behind the drone. He then did a quick commando move to snap the drone's neck. Detron stomped on the drone's head just for good measure. It felt good to be back into the fight. With the path clear to the Battle Bridge, Detron proceeded to his assigned location. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Starboard Nacelle Junction - ACEO Lt JG Eian O'Neill - Day 5 - 0827) Eian and one of his engineers were working on removing the secondary plasma grid's exterior panel, which had been fused to the wall before they cut the surrounding metal. Now they just had to wrench it away without damaging the internals. Suddenly, he heard his other engineer barely choke out "Borg!" before a gurgling noise erupted from the man's throat, and he dropped to the floor. Instantly, Eian let go of the panel and went for his phaser. He shot through the smoke at the drones now coming for them, and ducked down low and started retreating. If they could make it to the Jeffries Tubes, they would be able to escape. He dropped two drones with his phaser before they adapted, and then he threw the useless object down and went for the engineering kit. "Get the panel open!" He ordered his engineer, who promptly obeyed. Eian stood guard as the Borg closed in on them from both sides. "It's stuck, Sir...it's fused to the wall!" his engineer said in a panicked tone. ~Shit!~ "Here!" Eian threw one of the frequency emitters from the engineering kit to his junior officer and said, "Try to tune it to their communication frequencies!" It was a desperate attempt, and if Eian was looking at this from a third person perspective, he would have laughed at his own suggestion. The chance that they would hit the right frequency was less than the chance of a random space-time anomaly transporting them lightyears away from here and to safety. But in the moment, it was all he had. When the drones got too close, he abandoned his effort and started fighting hand-to-hand. He used a spanner from his engineering kit to puncture the carotid artery of one of the drones, and stabbed the other in the eyepiece. He received a crushing blow to his shoulder that knocked him on his stomach, and he responded by managing to ignore the pain and kick as hard as he could at the Borg's knee. But his kick was completely futile, and when he rolled away from the Borg's grasp, his broken collarbone supported his weight and he felt his vision graying. All sound left his ears, except for the rush of blood behind his eardrums. His breathing only quickened when the drone extended its arm again. ~Oh, God, oh, God, save me, God...~ he began hyperventilating, realizing he was completely trapped and that he was about to be assimilated. But, much to his surprise, the drone grabbed him and dragged him to his feet, tightly held him by the arms, and began to lead him down the corridor. But Eian wasn't about to give up. He kicked as hard as he could, shattering his ankle with the force of his blow against the drone's solid metal frame. He thrashed around in the Borg's grip, attempting to free himself but only succeeding in further injuring his shoulder and collarbone. He probably would have killed himself, but a second drone approached and hit him on the back of the head, knocking him out. We've been boarded by an unknown but significant Borg force. We have a sizeable portion of your senior crew aboard as well. What is your situation?=^= They had silenced the intruder alerts and damage alarms. Only fresh indications would activate them again. He was certain there would be many more of them. “Captain we are in much the same situation. We have security teams deployed, and are about to set condition Alpha Four.” Alpha Four, Salid would know as well as any command officer, was a measure of desperation. It was something rarely done; in fact, advanced command training listed it only two measures below initiating self destruct. Durand’s thinking -- which again, he knew Salid would grasp without being expressly told, was that is was far easier to go to a condition of desperate, maximum defense and then scale back from there, rather than trying to ramp up measures in response to a rapidly worsening situation. Essentially, in addition to activating internal forcefields, disabling key systems, securing essential areas, and that sort of thing, it completely disabled computer control. Virtually every ship function would be controlled manually. It was a two edged sword, of course. It would hinder the Borg, and the Boudicca’s crew in equal measure. At least they couldn’t remotely access anything. They’d be unable, for example, to cut off life support to the Bridge from engineering. Unless they physically severed the systems. “I’ve ordered all databases encrypted with the new command codes we worked out in our planning sessions, sir. Right now, the only officers who can override the lockouts are myself, and you Captain, as TF commander.” (Reply Salid iyw) He thought a moment. “I’d love to get my officers back sir, when we can arrange it.” =^=I'd love top give you back your officers captain, but I have no transporters at present. Since both ships are currently conducting counter boarding operations, I suggest that we hard dock the two ships together so that we can combine resources, and treat this as a single battlefield rather than two. What are your thoughts on this?=^= Durand thought fast. It was unorthodox, in the extreme. No ship he could remember -- not since the age of sail, at any rate -- had conducted repel boarder actions while docked with an allied vessel. It just might work, crazy as it sounded. “It’s a novel approach Captain, I’ll give you that. It might allow me to get my officers back... I see no other option at present. It opens some interesting tactical possibilities as well. I suggest we layer our defenses in order to deny the Borg their objectives as long as we can... trading deck space for time, as it were. We can merge crews as needed, intermingle them... and it gives us a fallback position if the Borg are more successful aboard either ship.” ~If we lose, that is,~ he thought but would never say aloud. “Our primary docking hardpoints are under Borg control more or less. We can harddock you to the secondary umbilicus portside of the main shuttlebay if that is acceptable Captain?” (Reply Salid) “Very well. The Borg are making headway, but some of that is due to our tactic of falling back to trade for time. I'm a student of archeology and I only know the simplest of theories behind their proper use. I think we'll have to forego the idea for now." As if to punctuate his words, there was a deep resounding bang as something slammed into the doors of the holodeck. "Jackson, re-route all power away from that door!" Ahmed ordered and then quickly adjusted his phaser rifle to emit a great deal more thermal energy. (reply Jackson) "Mister Soma, set your rifle to level 8 and assist me in welding the holodeck doors closed." (reply Soma) "Computer doors." Salid called and immediately the main doors to the holodeck shimmered into existence. "Now mister Soma." At the same time the two officers fired their phaser weapons. The beams intersected at the junction between the two doors and the released their phased energy into the duranium. A few seconds of combined energy turned the normally rigid material into a viscous semi-molten material. A few more and the two halves of the doors sealed themselves as the metal intermingled. "Good enough." Ahmed ordered and the two officers stopped their energetic assault against the massive holodeck doors. "that should hold them for a while, but not indefinitely." The captain strode over to the pristine looking engineering station located at the back of the holographic bridge. With the practiced hands of an engineer he was pulling up system and sub system schematics of the compartment. "Gotcha." he muttered as he turned and took a few steps forward and port of the engineering station. "Computer reveal access panel 32 Alpha leading to Junction tau-82." A moment later, and access port materialized a few feet in front of him. Ahmed stepped forward and knelt next to it. He quickly cycled through the access codes needed to open the entry panel and with a slight grunt lifted it from its cradle. He placed the heavy panel cover on the floor. "Mister Xim. I want you to transfer bridge controls to the systems monitoring suites on deck 17. Take Yalix and Dralar. We need someone monitoring all ship's systems and coordinating our counter-boarding operations wherever possible." "Understood captain." Xim replied and then with a quick nod, the three officers disappeared down the entry way. "Jackson, I want you to collect any personnel that look lost and proceed to sickbay to help Doctor Ichijo fend off the Borg or evacuate as is sensible. I'll be damned to eternal torment before I abandon our wounded." (reply Jackson) Ahmed nodded and then smiled at Soma. "Mister Soma. I want you to disable the safety protocols on this holodeck and put some sort of surprise in store for our would-be guests. When you're done, join me on deck 8. (reply Soma) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Geoffreys tubes on Deck 9 – ACSO Ensign Isra Caliel, Day 5, 0835) “Please let there be no borg here..” she said to herself quietly as the hatch opened. The familiar sound of mechanical feet stomping up the corridor prompted her to close the hatch again, and waited long enough for the Borg drones to move on. The hatch opened again, slowly. Silence. Phaser in hand, she stepped out, and closed the hatch behind her. ~nothing?~ she thought, staring down both ways. The holodeck wasn’t far, but with the battle bridge so near, she couldn’t in good conscience leave them here to break in. She shuffled slowly along the corridor towards the holodeck, and held her phaser high. ~Three of them...~ she thought, keeping quiet. The beeping of the controls on her phaser to move through the frequencies alerted them to her presence, though. She fired twice, and the Drones fell to the ground, but the third one kept coming, regardless of how many times she shot at it. Moving backwards, she noticed a door that she’d passed. ‘Holodeck Two’ A grin crept into place as she stepped inside, leaving the blank canvas in place, she drew the drone in. “Computer, deactivate the safety protocols, and give me a...” she began, but the panic of the moment caused her brain to shut down. “a Halberd.” She said, unsure why she chose such an unwieldy weapon. As instructed, the computer created a large metal weapon in her hands, the blade extended on a bar a good few feet from her. The borg was getting ever closer, raising its hand to go for the throat. As it did this, she noticed its other arm was damaged, and hanging limp at its side. ~at least it doesn’t have a ranged weapon~ she thought quickly, as the blade of the weapon swung down over her head, and into the shoulder of the Borg drone, tearing the arm from it’s socket. The drone collapsed, and stopped moving. Isra dropped the halberd, and ran out into the corridor, hitting the rest button on the way out. Her weapon disappeared, and she continued on her now empty path to the Battle Bridge. “Caliel reporting.” She said as the door closed behind her. Instinctively, she moved to the empty science console, while listening for any instructions that the Captain might have. Her hands were twitching, and her head pounded as the adrenaline flooded her system. A little late, but it would help her stay alive given the situation. There were no other crewmen, no other pods...only Borg machinery. It was too dark to tell the location of the room, but Eian was guessing from the faint sounds of the power generators that he was located in one of the engineering or maintenance areas. He was thoroughly restrained to the point where he couldn't move a muscle. Held vertically so that he could look forward, his head was contained in an elaborate brace that held his forehead, chin, and neck in place. He couldn't move his jaw--speaking was not a possibility, nor was turning his head or changing the angle of his gaze. His torso was restrained in a structure that restricted his breathing to shallow gasps, and his arms were held perpendicular to his body in a system that went as far as restraining his individual fingers. His legs were similarly separated, spread in a V with restraints for his ankles and feet as well as his shins, knees, and thighs. ~I can't feel my own skin...~ he thought, realizing that he was systematically displayed such that tactile contact with anything but the metal that held him was impossible. ~But I'm not assimilated,~ he reminded himself. ~Oh, thank you, God...thank you...stay with me, please...~ he closed his eyes, trying to remember his training. The only other time he had encountered a scenario like this was in his Academy entrance exam, when he faced his worst fear. Total paralysis. Eian never stopped moving. The doctors had explained to his parents that this was a part of ADHD that never went away. Movement helped him focus, allowed him to think about what was going on around him, and made it so that in any situation, he was still in control. Even in POW scenarios he had encountered at the Academy, he had used movement to keep himself centered, whether it was just a few fingers moving in a pattern or whether it was doing push-ups on the floor of a prison cell. His worst fear, his unreasonable phobia that he almost never encountered, was having that movement taken away from him. Being trapped in a body that could not interact with the world around him. Being deprived of stimulus. He began to pray for release from this torture, already feeling the panic of stillness settle in. Ahmed ordered. " On it Sir" jackson replied. "Mister Soma, set your rifle to level 8 and assist me in welding the holodeck doors closed." Ben made the adjustment and replied. "Ready." "Now mister Soma." Both beams hit the doors and they proceeded to weld them from top to bottom. Ben watched as the phaser energy melted the two halves of the large door into one solid immovable plate. He could see it cooling once they had finished and watched as the steam rose from the door as a result. "Good enough." Ahmed ordered and the two officers stopped their energetic assault against the massive holodeck doors. "that should hold them for a while, but not indefinitely." "I'd say for about ten minutes." Ben said to no one in particular. "Computer reveal access panel 32 Alpha leading to Junction tau-82." I will be establishing a perimeter operation there, once we've linked up with the Boudicca. Don't be long, lieutenant, we've Borg to kick off my ship." Ben nodded. "I've a few ideas that might keep them occupied for a while." The Captain disappeared into the access panel behind the others leaving Ben to himself. He crossed to the center of the bridge and stated. "Computer discontinue bridge simulation." The bridge began to shimmer and then it disappeared, he could once again see the large welded doors and hear the Borg trying to get through it. "Computer disengage holodeck safety protocols, security clearance Soma-epsilon-one-one-delta-omega-niner." [Safety protocols have been disengaged] "Access program Soma 113, make the following modification. Triple the number of attackers and increase difficulty to level five." [Modification ready] Ben watched as a familiar scene shimmered into existence, some ancient battle field in medieval Japan. A dozen Samurai stood around him, currently frozen but looking very fierce and deadly just the same. All had katanas at the ready, as soon as the computer released its hold on them they would launch into a relentless attack. The blades were sharp enough to cut a man in half horizontally or even vertically, with the safety protocols disengaged they were just as deadly as the real thing. They should keep the Borg occupied for a while, hopefully some of them will take a few drones out in the process. He wondered how they would react to such a technologically inept assault. Usually there were only four and he only used level three but considering what was on the other side of the door he didn't want to make things too easy for the Borg. "Computer delay program start until the Borg breach the holodeck." [Program ready] He had thought of adding a few explosives but didn't want to do anymore damage to the ship then the Borg had already done. Taking one last look around and called for the access hatch and proceeded to climb down, reaching back he closed the hatch and welded it shut. No use in making things too easy for the Borg. Once he had the hatch welded he continued down to deck 8, so far one of the few decks devoid of drones. When he reached the deck he turned and headed in the direction of the voices he was hearing. Ben explained his idea. "Considering we are on the holodeck Sir," Ben explained. "disengage the safety protocols and have the computer produce some projectile firearms. P-90's, M-16's, AK-47's or whatever you prefer. They don't have an energy signature for the drones to adapt to anymore then a combat knife." Ben paused. The tension made the silence seem louder. Ben went on "I realize this course of action would only be effective on the holo-deck, but it would mean that those outside will be able to use the phasers for a longer period before the Borg adapt to all the frequencies." Tom was curious to see if it would be adopted. Captain Salid considered the idea before replying. "Interesting suggestion Lieutenant, but after the collective's encounter with the Enterprise, I doubt that they'll fall for the same tactic again." "Additionally, most of the officers on the bridge would be more of a hazard to each other than the Borg if they tried to use those archaic weapons without the proper training. I'm a student of archeology and I only know the simplest of theories behind their proper use. I think we'll have to forego the idea for now." Tom wondered what Ahmed would do instead? As if to punctuate his words, there was a deep resounding bang as something slammed into the doors of the holodeck. Ahmed then ordered"Jackson, re-route all power away from that door!" Ahmed ordered and then quickly adjusted his phaser rifle to emit a great deal more thermal energy. " On it Sir" jackson replied as his hands danced across his console. The captain and Soma sealed the door into their area. Tom was sweating and quite scared! Tom got further orders from his friend. "Mr. Jackson, I want you to collect any personnel that look lost and proceed to sick bay to help Doctor Ichijo fend off the Borg or evacuate as is sensible. I'll be damned to eternal torment before I abandon our wounded." Tom looked at his friend before replying "Aye Sir". Jackson didn't like leaving his old friend but agreed with his reasoning. Tom moved to the access hatch after having Chief Sheridan replace him at Ops. Sheridan had a soft spot in his heart for Tom Jackson. Sheridan's eyes told Tom 'Be careful my friend' as jackson entered the access hatch. Jessica asked has they made there way to the docking hatch. "Let me see." came the response from a young security officer from the Rose that Jessica knew not his name. "We have the environmental hub, the observation lounge, the mess hall, the secondary dorsal phaser array and a set of escape hatches to the lifeboats." He continued. "Good." She looked over the security team. "Were are gonna secure this deck and make a base of operations. Team lead take a three man team and secure all entrances to this deck weld the lift doors shut if you have to, and if you see anyone send them back this way. Do we have a medic?" "Right here ma'am." Jessica looked over the medic like the rest of the crew they had never seen combat at all much less combat with one of the most feared races to common date. "You" Jessica pointed to one of the closet security officers. "Go with her secure the Mess Hall and set up a medical relief point. Jessica watched the two leave, "The rest of you get to docking the Boudicca with the Rose." They were all busy working on the docking procedure, when the so to her right started to whistle Jessica couldn't blame him. They were all nervous and anything to take the mind off the Borg and concentrate on there task was well worth it. But has much has she understood the reason behind it. She could not let it continue, everyone had to be able hear and his whistling was making that a tad bit more difficult. "Showers" Jessica called softly, yet sternly. "This is not...." She was cut off has the hatch to a near by Jeffries tube open and all phasers turned and sighted in, Ensign Romanoff was indeed a lucky man that day. "Hold" Jessica called to her team before anyone fired and made Romanoff a pile of ash. "Deck nine?" Romanoff managed to choke out between breaths, the Ensign was covered in sweet and he grabbed his chest. "Just sit there for a bit, and catch your breath, you'll do no one any good if your unconscious." She told the new comer. It was then that Jessica heard a loud clicking noise coming from the docking hatch. She turned, and her face meet the smile from the security officer working on the docking procedure. "We have soft dock, ten till hard dock." Jessica nodded has her com-badge chirped has the security team leader's voice came though =/\= Deck eight secured, force fields are in place and holding, turbo lifts are sealed and mined =/\= Jessica nodded, has her com beep again, this time the medic's voice came though. =/\= Mess hall secure, starting staging prep. =/\= Again she nodded, they were lucky the Borg failed to teleport to this deck. If Jessica could manage to go unnoticed for a few more moments, and get the ships docked and this area secure and draw the line in the sand. Jessica believed it would give them something they would need indeed, a fighting chance. Jessica pressed her comm-badge. "Ensign Signos to Captain Salid." (reply Salid) "We have secured deck 8 and are holding, soft dock has been made with the Boudicca. We will have had dock in ten." She paused a moment. Wondering how much more she should risk putting over a Comm. "We have a foot hold here." She hoped he would understand the cryptic message. Has she turned and went back to work putting a few more lost officers to task, turning the observation lounge into a war room. For the moment deck 8 seemed to be the only deck void of Borg presence and activity. Ensign Showers hoped things would continue to stay as quite at least until he met up with the reinforcements from the other ship. Rayne participated in the small talk the other security officers spewed while periodically checking over his shoulder and peering down both corridors leading to the docking access port. He continued the conversation with the other crewman as he looked down the barrel of his type III phaser rifle towards the access port. They all stood in a battle ready position as sounds from beyond the wall they faced signaled that the docking procedure had begun. To his left Rayne noticed Ensign Signos, a security officer from the Bouddica, standing closest to the hatch. ~Looks like she is very eager to get back to her own ship. I'm just glad we are going to get some extra man power to drive the Borg off the ship.~ While thinking to himself Ensign Showers had not noticed he had begun whistling to himself. His whistling was cut short as he heard a nearby jefferies tube begin to open. Rayne tapped two of the other security officers on the shoulder as to not make too much commotion and to not notify whoever was in the jefferies tube that he had been discovered. The three men in yellow aimed down at the jefferies tube with fingers clenched on the triggers ready to fire. ~goddamit, I thought we secured this deck from the Borg.~ " Let's hurry up and get that docking hatch open" As the jefferies tube hatch fell to the ground Ensign Romanoff tumbled out, sweating and grabbing his chest. He called out, " Deck nine?" The three men looked down at him as they dropped their arms and shook their heads with smiles of relief. (Reply Any) (Posted by Darryl) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Battle Bridge - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - 0841) ~How long does it take to get to Main Security and back.~ Josh thought. She had sent Vanik away half an hour ago to go pick up Lt Trei and as many weapons as they could carry. Neither of them had yet reported back and Josh was beginning to wonder if they had run into problems since the main security offices were only one deck below the battle bridge. Knowing that there was nothing she could do to help them she tried to keep herself focused on what was happening with the ships. Captain Salid had suggested hard docking both the ships and Josh nodded her head in agreement knowing that it gave them one arena to fight the Borg rather than two. Suddenly the doors to the Battle Bridge rang like a bell and Josh's stomach plunged right down to her ankles. It certainly wasn't Vanik or Trei at the other side of the door since they would have contacted her by communicator. The door rang again and Josh looked around at her crew. "Ok boys and girls, we need to sabotage every station in this room before we leave. Dupont you're with me on covering the door. Kaden, keep your phaser handy we might just need it when we leave by the alternate exit. The rest of you use your phasers to destroy every station you can before they break through and then run like hell through the other door. Don't stop and don't look back. There is a Jeffries Tube 50 metres down the corridor to the right as you exit the door. Make your way there and regroup on the Bridge. Whoever gets there first please inform the Captain what we did here." Watching as the rest of her team begin firing into the consoles Josh crouched down beside Dupont and lined her phaser up with the door ready to stop as many Borg as she could from entering until her team had basically trashed the Battle Bridge. Eventually the door began to buckle and give way under the Borg onslaught and Josh turned to Dupont. Don't fire yet, they will adapt quickly if they haven't already. Give our team enough time to leave and when I say so fire and once they adapt run like hell towards the other doors." The ensign beside her nodded once and swallowed quickly. Josh nodded. "Once you have reached the other doors overload your phaser and toss it into the middle of the room. Don't worry about me following you, either I will be right behind you or you will be doing me a favour and believe me I will be doing exactly the same thing I hope." Everything then seemed to happen in slow motion as far as Josh was concerned. She could hear behind her multiple explosions as the stations were wrecked but keeping her eye on the door she saw it give way and five Borg enter. ~Just enough to man the Battle Bridge.~ Josh thought as she finally gave Dupont the order to fire. Unfortunately the Borg didn't take long to adapt to her and Dupont's phasers and finally she tapped him on the shoulder. "Go now." Dupont didn't need to be told twice and as Josh kept firing he zigzagged his way through the room. Stopping at the other door he took the time to look back at Josh and she simply smiled and nodded. Turning his phaser to overload he tossed it into the middle of the room and dissapeared. Josh figured that she had about thirty seconds to go if she was going. She certainly did not plan to be a martyr so keeping low she started to weave around the destroyed consoles and make her way out. Just as she made it through the doors Dupont's phaser finally blew up and the concussion wave lifted her off her feet and blew her into the nearest bulkhead. As she slid down the wall the last conscious thought Josh had was ~Damn. That was not what I had planned.~ (Reply Vanik, Trei, anyone) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante. - Deck Eight - Jefferies tube junction 8b - Science Officer Ensign(jg) Nickolas Romanoff - 0842) It was growing extremely hot as Nickolas climbed down the jefferies tube deck by deck. He also paused frequently to grab his chest as the increased blood flow was exacerbating his open chest wound he received on Dovek II. His heartbeat was rapid and if he didn't pace himself he was going to collapse and hurt himself. He made his way to what he counted as five decks below where he had started off in the Astrometrics lab. The fatigue overwhelmed him as he stretched out on the plating,he closed his eyes and began taking deep breathes. His eyes opened again as he reached out and pulled an access panel down to ascertain why environmental controls were malfunctioning. It didn't take long for him to see that they were now malfunctioning but that the controls were on minimal reserves for all non-crucial areas of the ship. ~if you continue to lay here u are going to die from heat exhaustion, get a move on.~ Romanoff rolled over until he was on all fours and began crawling towards the jefferies tube access hatch that was in his sight. He picked up his pace he pictured the officers welcoming into the make-shift command post that the holodeck was serving as. Nickolas began opening the access hatch and as the adrenaline began to push him, he grew eager to exit the metal coffin he had been crawling in for some time now. He pushed with his might and the hatch fell to the ground. He came tumbling behind and out to three security officers with rifles aimed down at him. All he could muster up was " Deck nine?". He was lucky they didn't answer him with phaser fire. Instead they lowered their weapons and gave him a non-verbal shaking of heads. (Reply any) (Posted by Darryl) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Outside Battle Bridge - TAC/SC Lieutenant(SG) Detron Trei - 0843) Detron stopped at his office on the way to the Battle Bridge. He grabbed the Battlaff off the wall and holstered a charged Phaser along with a tricorder. When he can down the corridor to the Battle Bridge Detron got into battle mode and armed his Battlaff. He sort of likened the drones to an old Terran movie Terminator except these drones will go down quite nice with physical force and stay down. Detron stepped into the Battle Bridge and thrust his Battlaff through a drone's head. The next drone made a move toward him. He let the drone come a litttle closer before swinging his Battlaff slicing the abdomen then an upward shot to finish it off. The next 2 drones proved to be the hardest of the 4. Detron used a dead drone to block the energy blast. The green shield told him they adapted to phasers. He performed an advanced move of bashing a drone's head with the Battlaff then clubbing the other with a downward chop. To finish them off he took the drone's heads and bashed then together then snapped their necks in a rage worthy of a warrior. Detron turned to CDR Caskie and stated his presence. "TAC/SC Lieutenant(SG) Detron Trei here as ordered sir. The hall is clear of drones. Ready for orders sir." (Reply Caskie) (Posted by Edward) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck 9 - SEC Ensign Deter McLeod - 0844) Since this whole mess had started Deter had seen more action then he though he would have, true he hadn't been a part of either away team but he wasn't used to this kind of alert status either. Ever since they entered the Dovek system the ship had been on high alert, patrols had been increased, everyone was armed and he had never seen such a heavy mobilization of personnel since he transferred aboard the Rose. Considering what they were up against he wasn't all that surprised, the Borg had that sort of effect. That was another thing he didn't think, nor did he want to, he'd encounter. It was one of those things you heard, this ship was lost to the Borg, that colony was taken by the Borg, it wasn't something that was supposed to happen to you. Now here he was patrolling the ship looking for drones. He knew they were on this deck, the make shift bridge was on this deck. Captain Salid had transferred the bridge controls to the holodeck. Now, that told you something about the condition the ship was in. They had sustained heavy damage during the fight before they entered the vortex, since they had exited it they lost a full nacelle. Lost a nacelle, didn't lose power to it, literally lost the bloody thing. The up side to that was the fact that it had destroyed the pyramid. He hoped he wouldn't encounter the Borg, that some of the other patrols would. Truth was he wasn't much of a fighter but he also didn't have the concentration of be an engineer or a doctor. He could have went into sciences but he found it boring. Security was exciting, some times anyway. Right now he wished it wasn't, they were fighting the Borg. He turned and looked at those in his team, he could see his concern mirrored in their faces. None of them wanted to be here, none of them were decorated officers. They spent most of their time in the bowels of the ship doing inventory or checking out the brig making sure everything was as it should be. These were the times he was glad to have officers like Lt's Raschen, Sanok and even the new guy Soma around. They had seen their share of action and then some. He had heard that they had a new SEC officer aboard from the Boud but she was in pretty bad shape, still, even in her condition she could run circles around his group. They were coming up on the forward torpedo magazine, so far no Borg. He was beginning to doubt the reports of their presence on this deck when he spotted something moving further down the corridor. He signaled his team to stop and hug the walls. From this position with the curve in the walls the Borg couldn't see them, yet. He brought his rifle to bear, took a deep breath and hit his combadge. "McLeod to bridge." He stated. "We've encountered drones outside of the forward torpedo magazine. They haven't noticed us yet, please advise." (reply any on bridge) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign(jg) Henry Jacobs - 0845) It had been several minutes since Jacobs and the security detail had been standing post at Main Engineering entrance. Since power was scarce it proved increasingly difficukt to tell the position of the Borg since internal sensors were down. Jacobs stuck his head out from time to time hoping each time he did not see any drones making their way towards engineering. The Borg had a way of making their presence known and when they began their march towards engineering Jacobs only had a few seconds to prepare the security team. Henry and a female security officer stood to the right of the entrance and 3 male officers stood to the left, phasers raised and ready to fire. Four drones entered and proceeded into engineering not computing that they had entered into a trap. As they walked past Henry swung the butt of his rifle to back of one of the drones skull, collapsing him to the ground. On the other side someone touched his rifle to the face of a drone and fired point blank. A crater was all that was left as the drones body fell to the floor. Now aware of the attack one of the drones turned and swung his robotic claw implant catching Henry across the face and slashed his right eye socket. The pain was immense and now Jacobs was at a disadvantage. This did not stop him from continuing the fight. Direct phaser fire to the abdomen stopped the drone's onslaught. The forth drone was hit with phaser fire but was unaffected since it had already adapted. One of the security officers pulled out a combat knife and frantically stabbed the final drone in the chest rapidedly to ensure termination. With one good eye Jacobs calls out, " remind me not to piss u off around sharp objects." The officer smiled at him and shook his hand. Another wave of Borg came into engineering. "Let's give them a sticky bun...." Jacobs nodded to one of the security officers and he pulled out an explosive device. He pulled a rolling move and then jumped up behind the group of seven drones. He attached the device to one of the drones and then retreated out of engineering. The following explosion incapacitated the group of drones but more were making their way to the current location. A very loud yell came from Jacobs, " Steve, Engineering has been compromised, we are heading in towards you." (Reply Matrix) "Move in people we are gonna need to hold Main Engineering until we get reinforcements." (Reply any) (Posted by Darryl) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Engineering - CEO, Lt. Steven Matrix - 0846) Sergeant Conrad and a small force of security marines were already present in engineering when the Borg started to make their way into the facility. The other security detail made quick work of the initial Borg drones. Sergeant Conrad smirked and motioned to his force to move back behind him and take up alternate positions. Conrad leaned over to Matrix, "It would have been nice to have gotten a shot in." said the Sergeant. "I'm sure you'll get plenty of opportunities shortly Sergeant...the Borg are a determined bunch and won't give up." said Matrix Matrix and Conrad noted that one of the Borg was still moving, but fairly incapacitated by the explosion the security team detonated moments ago. Conrad rose up and fired at the Borg. The energy weapon separated the drone's torso from the rest of its body. A combination of blood and hydraulic fluid oozed on the floor and sprayed the entryway. Conrad looked at Matrix as if to apologize. The main entrance into engineering was now nothing more than pieces of tritanium, glass and plastic. Borg body parts and weapon casings littered the floor. Borg were starting to materialize in the entry way and in the upper deck. First a handful, then a dozen. "Weapons free!" yelled Matrix as a Borg drone materialized just a few meters in front of him. Matrix fired, but the materialization process hadn't fully finished so the energy weapon simply passed through the drone. An instant later the drone moved toward Matrix and clamped down on his shoulder with its cyborg implant that resembled a mechanical claw. Matrix screamed as the metal claw cut into this shoulder. Matrix swung his phaser around and fired at the midsection of the drone and fired. The phaser drilled a whole through the drone, but it did not let go. Matrix looked in the direction of the master sergeant, who had already begun the down swing of his combat saber. The tritanium-ceramic alloy severed the drone's arm at the elbow. Hydraulic fluid poured out of the drones stubby arm and the mechanical device released from Matrix's shoulder and fell to the floor. Matrix moved backwards and the sergeant took another swing at the still standing drone. The saber sliced through the Borg like paper starting at its shoulder and exiting just below its waist. The drone felling to the floor motionless. "Are you okay Chief?" asked Conrad. Matrix gasped slightly and looked at his shoulder, the blood was pouring down his sleeve. "Thank you, but no sergeant, I think the bastard got me good." replied Matrix. Matrix staggered backwards and took a deep breath and fired at the next drone just meters away. The Borg drone gave almost a surprised look, then fell to the floor. Matrix fired again...the adrenaline of the moment propelled his focus at the task at hand. "Keep moving sergeant...here's your opportunity." said Matrix. The fight for engineering had begun.
