He was and is as much a part of the project as ah am~ Wisely, he opted not to debate the share of credit (or blame) to be rightfully assigned each man. He doubted Durand would tolerate such discussion here and now, as there was far too much at stake. “Commander McLaren’s humility aside,” he began when Matt finished, “Ah think he covered the basic outline nicely. As ye form any questions ye might have, let’s answer a couple first. Lieutenant Major, provided yer flightplan doenae place the ship at undue risk, that is fine. And no major or even significant modifications hae been made beyond what ye see here on the display. The prototype has changed a wee bit since her shakedown cruise -- we found a few tweaks there -- but the data on the display is current. Unless Matt -- pardon me, Commander McLaren -- has made any changes since he went tae the Rose, the second prototype should be fairly represented here as well.” (Reply Shae, McLaren iyw, Any) Bob glanced at the holographic representation of his opposite number -- former opposite number that is -- on the Rosenante and extended an invitation. “Lieutenant Matrix, if yer CO has nae objections ye’r welcome tae beam on over and work on the module swap and such wie us... ‘tis up tae ye of course.” (Reply Matrix, Any) “Chief Gesar and Ensign Jacobs, if either or both of ye can be spared from yer duties yer help would be appreciated as well.” (Reply Gesar and/or Jacobs) He turned to Durand. “Captain, though ah ken that this is nae supposed tae be a tactical situation, ah’d appreciate taking a tac/sec officer along, wie yer permission of course?” Durand nodded his assent. “Absolutely Commander. A volunteer please though, as the rest of you are.” “Aye sir. Now... what else need we cover? Commander McLaren? Anyone? Speak freely if ye hae concerns or questions, now is a guid time.” (Reply Any at meeting(s)) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Observation Lounge - ATT Lt Cmdr Matthew McLaren - Day 4- 0212) “Commander McLaren’s humility aside,” he began when Matt finished, “Ah think he covered the basic outline nicely. Unless Matt -- pardon me, Commander McLaren -- has made any changes since he went tae the Rose, the second prototype should be fairly represented here as well.” "I've been working on a prototype ship interface AI, but it's not ready for general deployment, so the prototype you have is much more suitable without the changes I've been working on than with them." Matthew replied. (reply none needed) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Engineering - CEO, Lt. Steven Matrix - 0215) The holographic projection systems weren't new, but something Matrix hadn't used in a long while. He preferred to meet in person for these types of events. However, the dynamics of the mission and indeed this situation warranted flexibility. The image was graining and parts of the overall representation of the Commander faded in and out of focus. Nothing uncommon, but an optical nuisance nonetheless. “Lieutenant Matrix, if yer CO has nae objections ye’r welcome tae beam on over and work on the module swap and such wie us... ‘tis up tae ye of course.” "Commander....yes I would be honored to beam over to assist in any way I can. Is there any equipment or supplies that I could bring along to help in this endeavor?" asked Matrix. (Reply Lorimar) "Very well. I'd like to bring along another engineering resource if that is agreeable to you?" asked Matrix. (Reply Lorimar) "Excellent Commander. We'll gather the necessary gear and personnel and beam over at the appointed time. Matrix out." replied Matrix. (Reply Lorimar - IYW) (Posted by Matrix) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca- Observation Lounge- LMaj Brandy Shea- 0217) Shea watched the Captain inquisitively, as the engineers quibbled over who was where on the pecking order of building and designing the runabout and Durand himself made absolutely clear who was in-charge. ~Wow; are you freaking kidding me!? Does it really matter at this point in time?~ was the thought she kept to herself. Durand turned back to Shea. “As to your security question, specific assignments I’ll delegate to your mission commander; but I’m sure prudence will dictate taking at least one tactical/security officer along with you. Call it an insurance policy... as this is *not* a tactical mission." "So just so I understand what I'm in for sir. It's a recon mission with tactical issues, sir?" Brandy asked for clarification. (Reply Durand, any at briefing) Brandy turned to face the office named as the mission OIC (nrpg:Officer In Charge) CMDR Lorimar "I think I know a couple of men crazy enough to go as security; but we should ask first sir." (Reply Lorimar, any iyw) "Either LT Raschen, or LMaj La Croix sir. In the end, I really don't care who goes, I just need their info for the crew list on the flight-orders." (Reply any iyw) (Reply Durand, Lorimar, any iyw) Posted by Charlie --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Durand - 0835) Doug Roberts turned to face the Captain and reported with his usual efficiency. “Captain, message coming in from the Flagship.” “On screen.” The main viewscreen had been showing an exterior visual. Durand was just as happy to have it replaced; it was a dead and haunted system, and looked it. Where others might find beauty, he felt the shadowy fingers of the long dead Tkon civilization reaching through the aeons to the present. ~What do you suppose they might think of the Borg doing... whatever the Hell they are doing?~ Captain Salid’s image replaced that of the system, and chased the maudlin thought from his mind. Salid, as usual, was all business. "Well, captain as you can probably tell, the probes are unable to burn through the interference caused by the Antiproton beam. That means we're going to need to move to the recon mission. Are we ready to implement it?" Durand had anticipated the question, and though he dreaded the answer he was able to give it without hesitation. “Aye sir. I’ve been closely monitoring the progess of the recon team in their preparations. The runabout is ready in our main shuttlebay. I will have them launch in ten minutes, if that is acceptable Captain?” (Reply Salid iyw) “Very well sir. I’ll wish the team luck on both our behaves.” (Reply Salid, Any) He turned, and was about to turn the bridge over to Caskie, when he chided himself and remembered that she had gone to the battle bridge at his orders earlier. He stood and faced the tactical station. “Lieutenant Trei, you have the bridge; I’ll be in the main shuttlebay.” (Reply Trei) As he headed to the turbolift, he tapped his comm badge. “Captain Durand to recon team. You will launch in ten minutes.” (Reply ALL on away team, Any) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Shuttle-bay - Science Officer, Ensign Andrew Maddox - 0838) It took Maddox a little time to find the Main shuttle bay. A mind that can predict the outcome of dozens of scientific theorems, but simple spacial awareness using a graphic representation was a challenge. He walked into the shuttle bay and saw the team already hard at work prepping the new runabout. ~Quite a ship.~ Maddox admitted to himself with a long glance. He definitely didn't have an aesthetic eye for design, but she was definitely put together right. He hurried up to the runabout joining the rest of the team. He carried his equipment along with his tricorder and something he hadn't carried in a long time, a phaser. (Reply any, but presumably away team leader) "Oh, I'm sorry I'm late. I got turned around, I've never been on the Boudicca." (Reply same, presumably away team leader) "Thankfully I don't have anything to set up until well after launch I just got to know where I can stow my gear." he said. (Reply any) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Shuttlebay - CO Captain Durand - 0840) He arrived at the runabout as the team was gathering and making their final preparations for launch. He wanted to see them off, and had a couple of things he needed to say before they departed, but he was going to wait until they were nearly ready so as not to interrupt them. (Reply Any) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Shuttle-bay - Science Officer, Ensign Maria Holly - Day 4 - 0841*) The beam over to the Boudicca had been her first time. The process was amazing - the sensations were many and varied Maria had made the shuttle location with minimal hassle. She stayed near Ensign Maddox as he was the only person she recognized. She checked her gear once again. Her hands felt the phase r pistol. She had never fired one except for range qualification. Maria wondered if push came to shove could she kill? Time would tell. (Reply: none) (Posted By: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Shuttlebay - CO Captain Durand & ATT LCDR Lorimar - 0842) Durand had gotten Lorimar’s attention, and drew him aside for a brief and one sided conversation. Evidently he got rapidly to his point. If any of the assembled team bothered or cared to look, they would see the Captain clasp the younger man’s shoulder tightly and smile at him. Lorimar returned it, and could be heard to say “We willnae let ye doon sir,” as he came to attention then walked back to where the rest were working. He raised his voice enough to be heard and addressed the team. “Lads an’ lassies, the Captain has come tae see us off. Ah thought he might want tae make a speech, but he says that yer havin’ tae listen tae me during the mission is speech enough for anyone tae endure.” He chuckled lightly at his little joke. Durand had said no such thing, and most probably knew it. Lorimar’s own attempt at levity was as sincere as it was brief. “Right. Let’s all get aboard... we’ve less than three minutes tae launch.” (Reply Any, but none needed) Durand did address them once Lorimar had finished. He smiled at the group, though he certainly didn’t feel like it. He had a nagging feeling that this mission might very well be a one way trip. He had sent men to their deaths before, through his actions or by his direction. It never got any easier. “Okay people... I can’t hope to top that motivational speech... so I won’t try. I know you won’t let us down... as well as you know that we are all counting on you. I expect to see you all back here at the end of your mission. Good luck.” (Reply Any, but none needed) He shook Lorimar’s hand firmly, then moved to stand by the runabout’s hatch and repeated the send off with each member of the team as they boarded. Once they were all aboard and the hatch closed, he retreated back to the observation area away from the flight deck proper. Chief Sipowicz, whom he recognized from his previous stint as acting First Officer was standing at the flight control pedestal and nodded at the Captain. “You’re sending some good people out there Captain... and that’s one fine ship. They’ll be back.” Durand glanced sidelong at the stocky Chief Petty Officer. “It’s not the cowboys or the horses I’m worried about Chief... but the frontier is crawling with Indians today.” As he worked the hold down release controls and confirmed that the runabout would be free to launch, Sipowicz mumbled a reply that Durand didn’t quite catch. Or at least he pretended he didn’t hear it. (Reply Any, but none needed) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Battle Bridge - ATAC/SC Jessica Signos - Day 4 - 0845) The doors slide opened has Jessica entered the battle bridge, her data entered into the bridge's security computers prior. Jessica looked about the bridge has she slide behind the tactical station, and started to bring the station online. ~ Shields... check, weapons... check, running systems diagnostic.~ She thought has she she went though the motions of bringing up the tactical computers. She looked about the secondary bridge, there was a tense silence that filled the bridge. Jessica could see many were scared, most have never been in such a situation. Jessica; however, found herself surprisingly calm. She did not know why or how, but there was something inside her a presence not her own. She found strength in what she felt there; cold, steel veined conviction, a voice that told her. ~ We shall bleed, but they will bleed more... today is the day the Borg die.~ So confidant the voice of her alternate self. It made Jessica believe ~ We can win this. ~ Jessica went back and busied herself with her work. "System diagnostic complete" the computer spoke to her. "Good, Computer process all possible attack vectors and angles of attack for all key positions for the Boudicca and Rosenante." Jessica told the computer louder than expected and her voice cut though the silence. "Processing." came the reply from the reply from the computer system. She knew she asked the computer to process a good deal of information and it would take some time. But having an ideal were a attack might be heading would allow one to be better able to dodge it. She had to, keep picking apart the Boudicca and the Rosenante to find each weakness and then find a way to mitigate those weaknesses. She spent the last two days trying to fingure out how to mitigate the weaknesses when it came to the Borg boarding the Boudicca. Now she was working on the ships. Jessica wondered for a brief moment on how many others thought that way. Jessica figured they all thought how can we beat them, Jessica however thought how can we survive them. ~ In this case just to survive will be a grand victory.~ "Complete" the computer announced which brought Jessica back to the here and now. "Signos to Bridge, I have a present being sent over, hope this will help. Tactical, on Battle Bridge is green" She turned hit a couple of buttons then went on to her next task. "Computer, compile all known data on borg tactical cubes. I want possible firing solutions buffered on all key targets of opportunity; Weapons, Engines, Command and Control nodes, Shields, and all locations of possible torpedo bays." "Processing..." The computer sounded again and was quieted for a long while has it complied, processed and sifted though mountains of data. (reply none needed but always welcome.) (posted by Matthew Locke) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Borg Pyramid, Command Nexus, Volus- One of Seventeen, Day 4- 0846*) Multiplicity was something that you came to appreciate as a member of the Borg, and One of Seventeen was no different than any other drone in that regards. He was privy to all the thoughts, discussions and calculations that every member of the Borg Species was conducting on an innumerable number of starships, planets and outposts. Had he been an individual with this ability to instantly call upon the data that was available to the entire collective at a whim, he might consider himself godlike. However, there was no semblance of religion present in the logic of the collective. There was no god, only the complete and total drive for perfection. It was that very same drive that had caused himself and his hive-mates to be deployed here to the Dovek System in the first place. The Borg Queen herself had restored Volus' individual cognitive abilities specifically for this mission. He was allowed to express some limited individuality in the pursuit of his mission, which was a simple acquisition. The Queen had briefed him on his mission, and had personally seen him off on his journey. His species, 6063, were explorers and diplomats by nature, but he had once led a fleet of starships against the Borg, so long ago before their homeworld had been assimilated. It was the fact that before he was a military officer, that he had been an archeologist that had garnered him his current assignment. With data so sparse, the Queen had done something unprecedented, she had allowed One to function on a more independent level. He was watched, since he shared the complete connection to the Collective, and truthfully his lifelong quest for knowledge made his place amongst the collective worthwhile. All those decades ago, when he had come to realize exactly what it was that the Borg had to offer, he had made arrangements for the fleet under his command to be assimilated. Now he had access to a flow of endless information on so many levels that he wondered if there was ever an end in sight. He commanded the fleet in the Dovek system, assigned every drone their tasks and it was a deep-seated instinct that drove him to achieve the goals that the Collective was looking for here. {{We have detected a Federation Probe, entering our mission operations area.}} A thousand voices spoke to him in unity. Immediately a billion billion bits of data flooded into his mind via his implant. The History of the Federation, technical specs for every starship and technology encountered and the specifications on the type of probe. Every species, every world, every detail you could imagine was effortlessly reviewed and assimilated within a millisecond. {{The probe is irrelevant. It can not communicate back to whatever ship dispatched it. The anti-proton interference is too great.}} {{Long range scans do not detect any federation starships in the vicinity. Vector analysis indicates that the probe originated from beyond the solar system.}} {{Scans indicate that there are no cloaked vessels within range.}} {{We are detecting traces of Iridium beneath the surface of our current excavation site. There is a 68.0235% chance that it is the device that we seek.}} {Continue with the excavation. Prepare to deploy drones to the site once the device is uncovered.}} He sent instruction to the Tactical cube to heighten it's tactical readiness level. He understood that the possibility of interruption could significantly increase once the device was found. {{Capture one of the Probes and assimilate it.}} he ordered along the link to the hive. {{It is irrelevant.}} came a few thousand replies. {{You will comply.}} He pressed. A few moments later one of the two probes was being tractored into the pyramid for assimilation. He was certain that with the availability of Starfleet expertise in his hive, that he'd be able to accurately trace the device back to it's origins. It was just a matter of time. One turned his attentions to the surface scans for a moment while a thousand members of the collective began to watch for any sign of Federation starships. Short of a fleet there was no way that the United federation of planets could threaten their plans. But if the opportunity arose, Volus would assimilate every single individual that they encountered. That was how the flow of information increased, how the quest for perfection and endless knowledge was reached. It was his blessing to those that were lesser beings, a gift of immeasurable wealth that represented the logical next step in the evolution of every sentient life-form in the universe. Volus, in his own way was their savior. He possessed the desire to serve the collective and to spread their philosophy to the farthest reaches of the galaxy and beyond. His personal ascension to Godhood had begun decades ago, he wanted nothing more than to grant that same gift to every living sentient that he encountered. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Runabout Lorimar - ATT LCDR Lorimar - 0848) As it turned out, Durand’s commitment to launch in ten minutes had been ever so slightly optimistic. The crew and ship had been ready in plenty of time, but they were at the mercy of orbital mechanics. The extra three minutes were required for the proper alignment of the Boudicca, the Borg vessels, and the planet itself. At last, they were ready. Lorimar, at the co-pilot/operations station keyed open a low energy coded channel to the Boudicca. “Launch control, this is the Lorimar. Ready tae go. Permission tae launch?” =^=Lorimar, this is Roberts. Permission to launch is granted. Good luck sir.=^= “Aye... tae us all laddie. Launching now.” Lorimar turned from what passed as the ‘command station’ aboard to Shea. “Right, Lootenant Major... yer on. Take us oot. As soon as we are clear, lay in the flight path we discussed, please.” He spun to look at the rest (those he could see, anyway) working busily or waiting at their stations. “Right all... here we go. Status check from all stations, please.” As he waited, Shea skillfully lifted them off the deck with nary a bump, and they passed quickly out the forcefield doors toward the unknown. (Reply All on away team, Any) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Runabout Lorimar - Ensign Nickolas Romanoff - 0850) Looking around the shuttle craft Nickolas took in all the other crewman preparing their stations for the away mission that just began. For a shuttle craft the vessel was roomy enough for the individual crewmen had stations to man and operate. Romanoff took his seat at the communications terminal. For the mission to be successful The Lorimar would have to be able to communicate to both starships and transmit any and all information pertinent to the mission. “Right all... here we go. Status check from all stations, please.” Bob ordered. After Lt. Commander McLaren reported the status of the ships engineering Nickolas began to speak up. "Sir, communications are online and operating and peak efficiency. For the time being we have direct contact with both the Boudicca and Rosenante. Both ships are receiving our telemetry and awaiting for our first update." (Reply Lorimar) (Posted by Darryl) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Runabout Lorimar - ATT Lt Cmdr Matthew McLaren - Day 4- 0851*) Matthew had slid into the seat at the Mission Engineering station. Shae was at the Helm with Bob at the co-pilot's position designated as the command seat. Matthew was happy to be on a mission with his old friend again. Bob Lorimar was a more than capable officer, and judging from his attitude had also transformed into a fine command officer as well. While still technically part of the ATTU like Matthew, Bob had developed a quality that was commanding and well suited to lead the away team. Besides, if matthew had to follow anyone into a fight with the Borg, he'd rather it be someone he trusted. And while he was certain that Durand was a fine officer, matthew didn't know him well enough to put that level of trust in the man. But Bob? Now that was another story. “Right all... here we go. Status check from all stations, please.” Bob ordered. "All Engineering systems are go, commander. Engines are at 101% efficiency and all sensor pallets are on line." Matthew replied. (any others involved) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Runabout Lorimar - SO Ensign (sg) Joseph Willowbrook - Day 4 - 0854) Joseph was a quiet man. He had always been a quiet person, from his first day on the planet. His parents had even sought medical advice as to why he barely ever cried, and was so late to talk. The doctor on their small colony discovered that Joesph's ears were incredibly sensitive to sound, and that the sound of his own cries and the voices of those around him likely disturbed him. He received treatment and began talking soon after that. His words, at age three, astounded everyone. Speaking in a complete sentence, little Joseph's first proclamation to the universe was, "I want a computer with subspace in my room!" His interest in signal processing didn't fade. He entered the Academy, still a relatively quiet and subdued teenager, and went into Science where he majored in Special Operations Support, specifically Complex Signal Processing. He became a Signal Reconnaissance officer, a division of Communications that eventually carried him into the science department of the USS Rosenante, where he was currently stationed. He was surrounded by people who wanted to talk all of the time. For Signal Reconnaissance officers, Joseph thought, this was extremely illogical. Why would anyone want to talk when all they did, all day long, was interpret different cultures', planets', and natural phenomena's ways of communicating with the rest of the universe? He wanted silence above all, and that was why he rarely socialized with his peers. It had hurt his career. He had been in virtually the same job for the past ten years, and had yet to rise in rank. It wasn't that he wasn't capable of more complex work. He was absolutely the best at what he did. Specialized Signal Reconnaissance was a complex and interesting field that he would never dream of leaving. But in order to obtain a promotion, he was required to do several things. One was end his tour in space and return to Earth for six months. While there, he would be required to do one more thing he was completely unwilling, under any circumstances, to do. Public speaking. So there he remained, content to stay there as long as Starfleet would let him. He had never been on an away mission quite like this one. In his "brooding" silence, as his coworkers would call it, he thought about the possibility of failure. What if he was assimilated? Everyone made such a huge deal about the Borg. He could imagine the horror of hearing all those voices at once...that was something he wouldn't enjoy. But the idea that a human being could absorb so many signals from so many different minds...so many pieces of data to be analyzed, and the enhancements that would allow him to easily handle that load of information...he didn't think that was so bad. ~There's the matter of losing one's individuality,~ he thought casually as they boarded the shuttle. ~But that's not such a tragedy. What is an individual, after all, but a small collection of signals? The Borg Collective isn't so different. It's like many individual signals coming together to be one. One body. One individual.~ As they took off, he added to himself, ~I don't mind that my hand doesn't have an individual personality. So of course the Borg wouldn't mind that their drones don't.~ “Right all... here we go. Status check from all stations, please.” Bob Lorimar's voice cut through the small chatter Joseph had shut out. Matthew McLaren answered first. Then Joseph got his piece over with. "Communications and sensors at 100%, awaiting the go-ahead for preliminary scanning." He waited for others' responses, and tapped his finger anxiously on his panel, ready to run the preliminary scans. She reported her station ready "Science II Ready Commander". (reply: Bob) The others reported themselves ready - launch time was upon them. She crossed her fingers mentally - a habit she developed during the academy when taking examinations. Her folks would say that was silly but she always replied "What harm can it do?". Mom and Dad were very pragmatic people. He accessed the computer and asked if the computer could enhance an telepathic attempt to send a suggestion to the Borg collective causing them to fight themselves by way of a bug infestation. The computer said it could enhance the thought waves possibly achieving what Detron was trying to accomplish and inform Detron on the effect of the attempt. That was good enough for him at this point so he described to the computer what he was trying to do. The computer responded when the program was ready "Program ready." Detron entered the Holodeck to find a reclining chair with several devices attached to it. The chair was connected to a monitor and panels displaying information that he didn't know about yet. Detron sat in the chair and the devices attached to his head and various parts of his body. Detron opened his mind and closed his eyes. Detron sent the single though of ~Your ships are covered with bugs. Your ships are covered with bugs....~ He continued this thought sequence for 10 minutes or so then heard from the computer "strain level is getting to a dangerous state but your vitals are stable." Detron could accept that for the end justifies the means. After another 5 minutes of the thought stream, the computer suggested he stop and rest. Detron opened his eyes and looked at the data on the screens. The screens showed his mental strain and stable vitals. The computer also indicated that the target has received the information. Detron rested a while and waited for the computer to tell of their reaction. (Reply One of Seventeen) (Posted by Edward) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Durand - 0910) Durand returned to the bridge after the launch of the mission with the runabout and headed immediately to the center well to get a status report from the officer of the deck, Lt. Trei. He was greeted by an empty chair. "Would someone care to tell me where Lieutenant Trei has gone?" Several officers spun in their workstations to face him, all showing more or less the same puzzled look. Most of them had heard the Captain depart, and announce his location and the fact that Trei 'had the bridge'. They had all been so absorbed in doing their own tasks that no one had noticed him leave. "Computer, locate --" "Sir," interrupted Roberts very uncharacteristically, "I'm picking up some sort of signal. Faint, but definate. It's on a frequency which isn't normally assigned to comms... we don't monitor it routinely, but it just popped up on a passive frequency search." "Source? Origin? Where is it being directed to?" Durand was surprised; they had been at red alert for some time now, communication security was one of the first rules. Roberts looked puzzled. He checked his readings, focused the ships passive sensor arrays, then rechecked. His face went very pale. "Sir... the signal is coming from the Boudicca! Holodeck one... and it's beamed in the direction of the Borg ship!" Durand's reply was thunderous and immediate in the quiet of the bridge. "Shut that down. Now! Secure all power to that damned holodeck! Ensign Signos, this is the Captain. Take a security team to holodeck one and secure it, we may have an intruder aboard. A signal was beamed from there toward the Borg vessels.!" (Reply Signos) Just then, part of the mystery was solved, as a message he neither dreamed nor expected came through. =^=Trei to Bridge. I made contact with the Borg. Trying to get information out of them and will continue until I do. Trei out=^= ~What in the blue blazes is he doing??~ "Ensign Signos, cancel the intruder call, go to the holodeck with a security team and escort Mr. Trei to the Observation Lounge and detain him there. He is to be considered relieved of duty until further notice." (Reply Signos) "Mister Roberts, why in the Hell wasn't power secured to those holodecks? Nevermind, the horse has left the gate already. Get me a tight beam coded channel to the Rosenante. Quickly." "Ready sir." "Captain Salid, this is Durand. We have a major problem. One of my *officers* has seen fit to contact the Borg. Be aware that they are now alerted to our prescence. I'll have more information as soon as I question my officer. Any other orders, sir?" (Reply Salid, Trei, Signos, Any) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge -2O/ COPS Lieutenant Tom Jackson - 0911*) Tom was scanning his various readouts when the Boudicca came in via secure channel. "Sir, incoming message from the Boudicca" Tom reported. (Reply: Captain) As Tom listened in he got mad. Seems someone on the Boudicca had tried to contact the Borg!! That meant the Borg must know the Federation was watching. It also placed the team on the shuttle in deep do-do! Again Tom Jackson checked the Rose's status and then sat back to wait. (Reply: any on bridge) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Borg Pyramid, Command Nexus, Volus- One of Seventeen, Day 4- 0912) It began as a tickling sensation at the back of his brain. An unusual series of thoughts that Volus had not experienced for a very long time, and as such it took him a few minutes to realize exactly what it was that he was experiencing. It was telepathic contact, or a weak attempt at it in any case. Within the space of a single thought, he scanned the thoughts of every single Borg Drone in the area and determined that it was not originating with any of them. That meant the source had to be outside of the Borg realm of influence. It didn't take a genius to realize that the federation was closer than he had first anticipated. The data came together, the Federation probes and now an attempt at telepathic contact. Betazoid or Ullians most likely, since they were the strongest telepaths in the Federation, still this didn't seem quite right. The distance was great to be certain and that led Volus to believe that it was enhanced by some sort of machine. Which was not impossible. The Federation had already encountered mind probes and other devices capable of performing that function. {{We are detecting an unidentified Federation auxiliary craft}} {{It's configuration is designed to conduct research. It is not a tactical threat}} Volus reached his mind out and determined hat the smaller vessel was not responsible for the telepathic attempt at contact. {{Take no action against it.}} he ordered {{It threatens the mission.}} came the collective response, {{we must destroy it.}} {{You will comply.}} Volus ordered and he could feel the collective obey his desire. {{We will deal with them shortly.}} He began to search in earnest then, focusing the telepathic signal that he was receiving. ::Your ships are covered with bugs. Your ships are covered with bugs....:: The thoughts broadcast. ~How delightful.~ Volus thought only to himself. It only took him a few moments to locate the source of the signal. {{There is a Federation Starship hiding behind Dovek IIa. Assimilate it.}} He ordered the Borg tactical Cube. He understood that the cube could not be detected by the federation starships until the cube crossed the terminus of the moon that the enemy was hiding behind. He also understood that the antiproton interference would prevent the smaller vessel from warning their comrades. He ordered the cube onto a course that would in no way alarm the small craft, bringing them away from the smaller vessel but able to change direction to close on the moon quickly when he decided. The Volus then made full mental contact with the transmitter of the telepathic Message. ::I am Volus of Borg, we are the collective. You will be assimilated. Your species will be reallocated to serve us. Resistance is futile. Surrender you ships and join the collective willingly and you will be shown mercy. Resist and you shall be punished.:: (reply Trei) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge -CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma - 0913) Tom announced that someone on the Boudicca had contact the Borg, of all the stupid things to have done. Who could have jeopardized the mission and both crews in such a way. The cat was out of the bag, now a confrontation with the Borg was unavoidable. They would come looking for whomever had made contact, they would assimilate both ships if they could. Two on one the Rose and the Boud could most likely take one vessel, both were a force to be reckoned with. Someone had tipped their hand and Ben hoped they lived long enough to be punished for it. He immediately turned his attention to his scanners, it was hard to get any good readings through the interference but something wasn't right. He wasn't showing one of the probes, it might be to deep to pick up, it might have been destroyed or most likely the Borg had tractored it into one of the ships. With a team out there in a runabout the latest news couldn't have come at a worse time. "I've lost one of the probes Captain." He reported. "It's likely the Borg have taken it aboard for assimilation. They will be able to track it's origin back to us Sir." Take a security team to holodeck one and secure it, we may have an intruder aboard. A signal was beamed from there toward the Borg vessels.! =/\= The Captain voice thundered over the comm. "On my way Sir!" She exclaimed. "Security teams Theta316 on me, reactionary forces Gamma196, Kilo324 lock off and secure holodeck one." She ran out the Battle bridge linking up with her security detachment Theta316, and has the entire security team was off to the races, Jessica continued to relay orders, though her tactical circlet. "All security, we have a security breach, holodeck one, weapons hot, I repeat all weapons hot." Not long after the Captain voice came again over the comm, quite agitated =/\= Ensign Signos, cancel the intruder call, go to the holodeck with a security team and escort Mr. Trei to the Observation Lounge and detain him there. He is to be considered relieved of duty until further notice. =/\= "Understood Sir, Signos out." Team Kilo324 was the first to reach the area, and cordon the adjacent hallways, has power was cut to the holodeck. "Signos to Team Gamma196, and Kilo324, drop from intruder alert, security still compromised. Any sign of Lt. Trei, he is to be apprehended immediately. All weapons are to be set to heavy stun in case of resistance. I want him asleep not dead people." Team Gamma196 reached the holodeck approached the door, and after finding them secure was setting up the necessary precautions to breach the holodeck. When Jessica and team Theta arrived. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Holodeck 1 - TAC/SC Lieutenant(SG) Detron Trei - 0915) Detron received telepathic contact from the Borg. One of Seventeen issued their normal line of they will be assimilated and resistance is futile. The Tactical cube is coming to their ship. Detron opened his mind again to see if he could get any information from the Borg. He said to himself that two can play at that game. ~Who are you and what is your purpose? Detron tapped his COMM. ^=Trei to Bridge. I made contact with the Borg. Trying to get information out of them and will continue until I do. Trei out.^= (Reply Durand, Signos, One of Seventeen) (Posted by Edward)) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Holodeck One - ATAC/SC Jessica Signos - Day 4 - 0916) "We are ready to breach the Holodeck." the Sergent in charge of team Gamma announced seeing Ensign Signos approach. "Good, Chief prepare to enter," Jessica Spoke to the Master Chief in charge of team Theta. "After Gamma breaches the door Theta will enter and secure Lt. Trei... Understood." Jessica was meet with nods of understanding from the rest of the security teams. Has Gamma team overrode the door securities and opened the holodeck door manually. Allowing Team Theta and Jessica to flood the room weapons drawn down on what Jessica expected was one surprised Lt. Trei. "Lt Trei, you are hear by relieved of command by order of Captain Durand and are to be apprehended at this time. Sir I would hate to fire on one of my own, so compliance would be advisable." Jessica spoke but it was not the voice of a soft spoken girl. There was iron in her voice, there was no denying who was in command of those teams. (reply Trei, iyw) "Signos to Captain Durand, Lt. Trei is in custody and is being escorted to the Observation Lounge has ordered. Team Gamma stand down and return to station, good work. Team Kilo, will provide security for Theta, Team Theta and myself will conduct prisoner transport and security. Chief Kurger I want to phase rifles on the Lt at all times. This is not the time to be sloppy people." With her orders given Jessica and the two security teams made there way to the Observation Lounge, with Lt. Trei peacefully in tow, hopefully. (reply Durand) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Shuttlebay - ACEO Ensign(jg) Henry Jacobs - 0917) Jacobs had just witnessed something that he didnt have the heart to do; he nodded as he watched the runabout Lorimar take off into the emptiness of space to start their recon mission. Although he wanted to go just to assist he knew he was much more needed onboard the Boudicca in case anything were to happen. Brave souls volunteered to complete a mission that most would cower away from. As he left the shuttle bay he envissioned the return and use of the Lorimar for future missions, it made him feel at ease that the crew members on board would return to serve with him again. As he walked the corridors he concentrated on how the ship could maintain contact and monitor the shuttle while away from home. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - ACEO Lt JG Eian O'Neill - Day 4 - 0917.5*) Eian heard the news, and his stomach dropped. They knew where they were. They were likely coming...and soon. And with this interference, they'd probably never even see the Borg before it was too late. Then, in nearly the same split second that he processed the bad news, he felt a fiery anger rise up within him. Who in God's name had contacted the Borg, and *why*?! He wanted to get his hands on him! The traitor had compromised the mission, probably sentenced numerous crewmembers to death...or worse, assimilation. With a confrontation now completely unavoidable, Eian's first thought was Jessica. She was running security on the Battle Bridge of the Boudicca...a prime target, most likely, for a Borg attack or invasion. ~Oh, God, please protect her. Please protect all of us.~ (no reply necessary) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Observation Lounge - ATAC/SC Jessica Signos - Day 4 - 0920) The way to the Observation Lounge was quite and peaceful for the most part, and was made with out incident. Kimiko Ichijo, - Day 3 - 0957) Kimiko waited for a response with half a mind sorting through what buffers and other chemical mixtures that could have the desired effect. It had been a while since she had had a puzzle that she could sink her teeth in. She noticed the Captain frown ~Huh~ "Doctors." Ahmed replied, "I'm not here to discuss the finer points of playing doctor. What I'm interested is a clear indication whether this or any other related research could be useful in slowing the potential physical and psychological damage that could be wrought on our crews should the worst case happen." Kimiko sat back, stung. "I have some medical training, and while I am not by any means a fully certified Doctor, I am not ignorant on this subject either. that said, can Therbuterol potentially aid our people if they are exposed to Borg nanoprobes? That is the question, and that's the one I need answered at this moment." "I understand that there are complications and that it won't be good for everyone. So semantics and inability to conduct clinical trials aside what I need to know is whether it's a potential benefit to the crew? If not, another suggestion was put forward. Is that substitution a better choice? For that matter is there any better choice at all?" Kimiko’s face was passive, hiding her roiling thoughts. ~Easy there, Kimi, this is one pissing contest you do not want to have~ “Sir, I apologize if it sounds like we are discussing the ‘finer points of being a doctor’; however, this is the approach that I am most familiar with and....” Kimiko took a deep calming, breath. “First, I believe that the drug is a valid venue” Kimiko bit her tongue to avoid adding ‘I said as much before’. “Second, with all due respect, I believe that to gain the most benefit from the drug, it needs to be present in the system before the injection of the probes, due the passive nature of absorption of the drug and the active nature of the probes.” Kimiko uncrossed her arms and laid them on the table. “I am not familiar with the construction of the device, nor how long it would take to duplicate them for a thousand plus personal; however, if they can be dissimulated throughout the crew, …” Kimiko trailed off "Both points, I suppose, would be better discussed outside this briefing." "Barring an inability to have a medic or medical person available to distribute this to each patient, the monitor bracelet isn't a bad idea at all. I'd imagine that it is something that can be replicated easily. If the dosage can be calibrated quickly then I see no reason why it can't be distributed for the purpose of aiding of people. But before that happens I need you two to agree and tell me if we should even bother with the plan." ~I suppose little effort is better than none at all~ Kimiko thought, she felt a little guilty dismissing the prosthetic out of hand. ~I guess you would have to weigh the price of giving every crewmember the drug versus after the fact~ “I believe that it is worthwhile” Kimiko replied "Doctor Candle, since we're going to have the Boudicca Engineering team tasked soon enough on another project, I want you to turn over the design specifications to Lieutenant Matrix here on the Rosenante so that he can start the replication process. Then you and Doctor Ichijo will figure out which and how much Neural Suppressant, assuming any at all is to be used, but do so quickly, so that the engineering teams will be able to get them built, and so you can adjust dosage before operations can distribute them.
