"Do you want to dance?" Doug asked. "I've never danced before." T'Larah stated. "It's as easy as you want it to be, you move in specific ways in time with the music." Doug explained. Doug led T'Larah out on the dance floor by the hand. They approached the entertainment director, "Can I request a specific type of music?" "Absolutely." said the Andorian, her antenae adjusting constantly sensing the intricacies of the music currently playing. "Terran 1920s era swing." Doug said. "Well let me see, I don't have a lot of pre-eugenics war music here that isn't classical." she said searching through the database. "I think this will do nicely." she smiled. The quick paced sounds of a Prohibition speakeasy filled the air. "We stand like this." Doug said and placed her hand on his shoulder clasped her other hand with his, then pulled her closer with his remaining hand in the small of her back. "I thought there would be more movement." T'Larah said. "There will be," Doug promised. As he thought about the next move, through their close contact, T'Larah was able to see what he wanted to do next, and performed the first step with out being told how. "How'd you do that?" he asked astounded. "You ever wonder why you don't shake a Vulcan's hand when you first meet?" she asked. "Well, it's a cultural taboo. Everyone knows that." he answered. "That's because many Vulcans are touch telepaths, and most Vulcans don't want to know what you are thinking. It's the worst invasion of privacy." she explained. T'Larah knew that was an over-simplified version, but it would do for now. ::Just think it and I will follow.:: They started slowly, tentatively trying the steps and their new closeness. Before the end of the song T'Larah and Doug were dancing like they had been dancing together all their lives. Doug motioned to the Andorian for one more song. ::Ready?:: Doug nodded. As the music started they began with dances that had steps, like the Charleston, and soon they were improvising. The more they improvised the more flamboyant the dancing became and the more room on the dance floor they took up. The dance floor parted for the couple. The spinning and twirling attracted the attention of over half the dance floor. At the creshendo of the song Doug spun T'Larah out with his arm fully extended, she paused and spun back. When she came back to Doug he dipped her and kissed her at the last note of the song. With the song done the pair left the dance floor hand in hand. (Reply any in RJ's) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Engineering - Engineer- Lt. Tierce Darby - Day 3 - 0112) =^=Very good Mister Darby. I'm trying to make my way back to the Rosenante now. If you get transporters working anytime soon please let me know. A beam out be preferable to marauding through this crowd in the dark. Keep me posted. Matrix out.=^= Darby was about to tell the lieutenant that they already had enough power to transport critical personnel aboard, as long as it wasn't the entirety of the ship's compliment, but the CEO had closed the channel. Darby considered reopening the channel for a moment, but truthfully he wasn't sure it was a good idea. In the end he opted to do so anyway. Tapping his commbadge the engineer said," Darby to Matrix. Sir, I have enough power available to recall key ship's personnel by transporter. If you'd like I can transport you aboard now." (reply matrix) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Dark Corridor - CEO Lt. Steven Matrix - Day 3 - 0113) "Darby to Matrix. Sir, I have enough power available to recall key ship's personnel by transporter. If you'd like I can transport you aboard now." =^= Excellent Mister Darby. At your earliest convenience please have the duty chief transport me to main engineering aboard the Rosenante. =^= (Reply Darby) =^= Very good Lieutenant. I'll stand by and try to stay out of harms way. Matrix out. =^= (Reply Darby) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Durand - 0124) =^=Sir, Captain Salid has asked to contact you and to offer my OPS crew to assist you in any manner. I am also willing to coordinate with your OPS crew to get things running smoothly=^= The disembodied voice sounded oddly eerie in the darkened bridge, but Durand shrugged that off immediately. “Two things immediately come to mind, Lieutenant. First, if any of your crew come in contact with any of ours, please ensure that my people are aware the ship is at yellow alert, and a general recall is in effect. Our communications are still spotty, we’re on battery power and trying to minimize the energy load until we are back up and functioning. Second, I’d take it as a personal favor if you would maintain a collision detection scan, and let us know immediately if anyone or anything approaches the Boudicca. We’ve got nothing but low energy passive sensors operating, and I hate surprises. Would you watch our back until we can do it ourselves? We don’t have power enough for navigational deflectors, let alone anything serious. Even an energetic chunk of debris would ruin our day right now if it impacted anything not covered by the ablative armor protection.” (Reply Jackson) “Thank you, Lieutenant. Now, is there anything we can do for you given our limited functionality at the moment?” (Reply Jackson) “Very well, thank you. Please inform Captain Salid we’ll keep him updated on our status as promised.” (Reply Jackson iyw, Any) Moments later, Doctor Candle checked in. =^=Dr Candle to Captain Durand sorry for the delay, sir, I’ll get that team to the Starbase as soon as I can. Is there anything else sir?=^= Durand smirked, though no one on the darkened bridge could see it. “There are several other things Doctor, but I only ask you handle those within your field.” ~Unless you could magically conjure up a Rosenante style secondary warp core...~ “I’m certain you’ll more than have your hands full. Mob rule is spreading on the station Doctor... take no unnecessary risks, and make sure your people stick together. We’ll be sending more help your way as soon as we muster it.” (Reply Candle, Any) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Deck 7 - aCEO Ensign Anton Gesar - 0131) Getting to Main Engineering from the docking rings was taking forever, the darkness compounding the issue of climbing stairs downwards. Anton was building a good sweat. =/\=Jacobs to Ensign Gesar. Myself and the damage control team have made it to sickbay where Lieutenant Trei and others are handling the situation.=/\= "Very good Ensign, continue and report to me as soon as you have any news about what is going on on the station." (Reply Jacobs iyw) Anton continued his descent. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB 989, Promenade, Upper Level, Lieutenant jg Sanok, 0136) "Lieutenant Sanok, this is 2O Tom Jackson. Glad to hear you are well." The incoming signal was still littered with static, but it was clear enough for Sanok to hear the identity of who it was. "Yes, I am well," said Sanok, "but that cannot be said for the current condition of the base." "Mister Sanok, unless you are providing services to SB 989, report to the ship." "I am not providing any service to the base. However, I am currently unable to leave my present location. Are you able to beam me directly to the ship?" said Sanok. "Understood. Jackson out." Sanok took that to mean that orders would be given to beam him aboard the Rosenante, so he left his comm signal open for a transporter lock. While waiting, he watched the people below, as they continued unchecked in their shameful, violent behavior. (reply Jackson) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante Docked SB 989,LT Tom Jackson 2O/COPS 0145) "Mister Sanok, unless you are providing services to SB 989, report to the ship." "I am not providing any service to the base. However, I am currently unable to leave my present location. Are you able to beam me directly to the ship?" said Sanok. "Understood Mr Sanok, Standby for transport to the Rose. Jackson out." Tom quickly initiated the transport to the Rosenante. Jackson said "Captain, We're beginning to recover Rosenante personnel. Lt Sanok is being beamed to the ship as we speak". (reply: Captain) Tom returned to his readouts. Slowly but surely the ship's compliment was returning to the ship. He had not had much time to stay on contact with Dahlia. Their wedding plans were on hold pending the resolution of the current crisis. ~At least I've not had to wear that blasted Dress Uniform~ Tom thought. It amazed Tom that people never really changed - given a chance to make an easy score- be it money, loot or whatever, people often took it. Tom Jackson sighed deeply. At least no Ferengi had been caught taking advantage of the present opportunity. Jackson was mad and wanted to phaser all those acting in such a base, coarse manner. While working, Tom made himself a promise similar to one made bu an old officer in the Earth's 20th century wars - he'd find a quiet place where he and dahlia could live the remaining years of their lives in peace. (reply:none) (posted by: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Bridge - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 3, 0146) "Captain, we are receiving a communications from Lieutenant Kraal on the Starbase, voice only," Jackson reported. Ahmed nodded. "Put him on speaker." A half second later the channel to the Starbase's acting Co was completed. "Lieutenant Kraal this is Captain Salid. What is your situation there on the Starbase? I've received reports of rioting and can see that you are suffering from massive power failures. Can you give me any further information at this time?" (reply Kraal) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Sickbay - CMO - Doctor Gena Harvey - Day 3 - 0158) The commander nodded. "Thank you doctor. I'll speak to Lt Trei in a moment but first I need to know if you have heard anything from the Station Commander or any other station personnel for that matter. I also need to know if you have a working comm channel here and thirdly I need a situation report." "I've heard nothing from Lieutenant Kraal, Ma'am. I don't have working Communications, at this time and to be honest I haven't any engineers to help me troubleshoot the problem." NRPG: The Rose's Communications relay was launched at 0130. It's not going to be able to handle everything all at once. Which is why they don't have communications yet. "As for the situation. We have sixty-eight cases in house triaged, mostly class two traumas, or lower priority. We have about twice that waiting for categorization. I have two doctors and three nurses here, with no word from other personnel or any of the other medical facilities on the base. Sterilization is going to become an issue since we don't have power to run the surgical sterilizers." "Very well Doctor Harvey." Caskie replied, " I'm sure both the Boudicca and Rosenante are responding to the situation already and once I manage to contact them I will have them send as much personnel and supplies as they can, although I suspect they are already on their way. Unfortunately until then we are going to have to improvise as best we can. There is not a great deal I can suggest until power is up and running again, however I do believe I might have a solution to your sterilization problem. Have someone head to the nearest bar and requisition as much alcohol as they can carry. Whiskey is best since it is purest but to be honest any spirit based alcohol will do in a push." Gena gave herself an imaginary face palm before she replied, "Yes ma'am I'll get someone dispatched to that task right away." "I'm going to speak to Lt Trei now. I'm leaving you in charge of the medical situation at present since I am going to have to take over all charge here at present. By all means call me if you need my medical help but remember I'm not going to be very effective being in overall charge if I'm elbow deep in a patient. Carry on Doctor." "Aye Ma'am." Gena replied and immediately set about requisitioning alcohol. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Main Engineering - ATAC/SC Ensign(jg) Jessica Signos - Day 3 - 0207) She was about to answer Eian when the security doors began to screech in protest to being forced open. Form beyond the door came the hostile voices of an agree mob. "We should fight!" Eian proclaimed, She could see the look of invincibility in his eyes that normally finds a man dead. "Only for has long that it takes you to get the information on what happened from the systems and lock the main core." She told Eian has she took up a defensive position. "I'll by us sometime." There was silence from beyond the door, followed by a glowing light has a Molotov cocktail flew into the opening. The bottle broke sending flames across the floor, followed by the brilliant flashes of phaser fire. Jessica returned fire, her phaser hummed has a beam of brilliant energy slammed into the first of the mob tiring to break into main engineering. More homemade explosives were tossed threw the doorway toward the area where the phaser fire had came from. Causing Jessica to duck behind a console for cover, which due to her size and fit her perfectly and gave her a greater ability to move from cover to cover. She glanced back to Eian, and in the burning light of the flames she could see that she was indeed drawing the fire from him. Allowing him to work in relative safety. She broke her cover again and shot though the flames, has another attacker went down, but more came. Some, she noticed were pulling the stun and wounded away from the battle. ~There to organized, we can't hold against such numbers. I wish I had the time to get the word out to let other know what they would be walking into.~ The mob broke into the room, it was all Jessica could do to keep up with the flood, has five more went down, her shots were precise, Jessica knew she had to make every shot count. She also knew the energy cell would not last forever. Another went down, this one a big Klingon, that attempted to charge her position. It took three blast to bring the man down, but even he soon found the sleep that came from a phaser set to stun. She aquired her next target, she could no longer afford glances at her friend to make sure he was ok, has her figure graced the firing plate. Nothing happened, Jessica glanced at her weapon, the cell was spent. They came after her now. Thinking the young girl easy prey with no weapon. They soon found out how wrong they were. The first man to come with in her reach found a broken jaw has she rotated her body in a round house kick that sent him sprawling across the floor. Jessica continued her momentum bring her other leg to bear sweeping the second sending that attacker to the ground. Then she was in the air, landing for a brief second on near by console only to flip off it, tucked her legs firmly under her to plant her knees in the thirds chest. Forcing him to the ground under her weight, and inertia. They landed on the ground in a loud bang has his ribs and chest cavity gave way to Jessica's attack. Jessica looked over her shoulder at the next wave of attackers. They came more carefully now, after seeing the fate of there comrades. "We don't have time for this a voice came from with in the mob." It was then that Jessica felt it a stinging just blow her collar bone. Her hand went to it, ~A dart~ she felt her strength drain from her, ~a poisoned dart.~ She tried to stand but succeeded only to fall to her knees again has the paralysis from the toxin set in. Jessica was barley aware of the following events, another of the mob came in yelling "There coming, scatter." Jessica could only hope that the Boudicca or the Rosenante had sent a security team to the reactor core. She vaguely remembered the mob scattering dragging their wounded, or unconscious with them. Then when Eian ran to her side. ~That battle was over in a few brief minutes...~ It was getting harder to think~ (reply Eian, iyw) A few moments later she heard someone calling. Has Jacobs and Sigma team made it to the station's engineering section, entered the automatic doors and took in the carnage that was evident in the room. Sigma team split up into search patterns while Jacobs continued into the center of Engineering. ~.... They had held.~ "Hello, anyone there? I am Ensign(jg) Jacobs from the Boudicca. Again anyone there?" (reply Eian, Jacobs, Sigma Team) (posted by Matthew Locke) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering - aCEO Anton Gesar - 0211) Anton finally arrived in Main Engineering. He wiped the sweat of his brow and looked around. It was dark and Anton shone the flashlight he grabbed on his way into the ship to see if anyone was here. With the ship on station power and the reactor shut down there was no reason to keep even a skeleton crew on duty. Though several damage control teams were always on standby just in case. Anton walked up to a station, the keypad was completely dark. Anton headed toward the storage area to find a portable generator. =/\=Jacobs to Ensign Gesar=/\= "Gesar here." =/\=Sir, we have received orders from Commander Caskie. We are en route to Main Engineering to restore power.=/\= "Do you have any idea what is the cause of the power loss?" (reply Jacobs) "Very well, continue and keep me in the loop." Anton found the generator, it took him a few moments to get it hooked up to his console but he had it up and running soon. The station came up. The readouts told him what he already suspected, there was no power coming from the Starbase. Likely because whatever power was left after the drain was being used to keep the Starbase auxiliary systems operating. He did a quick check of the necessary systems before reporting in. "Gesar to Captain Durand." (Reply Durand) "Sir, I am in Main Engineering. I'm sorry Sir that I did not report in sooner but I was climbing down quite a few decks and figured it would be faster if I got down here and assessed the situation first before reporting in. Here's where we are. Starbase 989 is providing no power to the Boudicca. Whatever is draining their power is doing so on a massive scale. Whatever power they have left, their systems would have diverted them immediately to support starbase functions. Correction sir, the Starbase is providing a very minimal amount of power to keep the most basic life support systems operating, however if the power drain on the base continues we will loose that within the hour." A damage control team just arrived flashing the flashlights to assess the situation. "Sir a damage control team has just arrived. We are going to being connecting power generators to several systems that will require power in order to bring the warp core online. I had a concern whether our connection with the station will result in the Boudicca experiencing a power drain, but it seems that the drain is only on the Starbase systems. Therefore it should be safe to bring up the core before we disconnect from the station." "It's going to take longer than usual to bring up the core as quite a few things will have to be done manually. I will let you know as soon as I have an accurate time estimate." (Reply Durand) "One last thing sir, I'm sending someone up to the bridge with a portable generator to get some power to the consoles until we get main power back online." (Reply Durand) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Sickbay - SO Ensign Eva Saint Jean- Day 3- 0212) Turning to Eva, Josh smiled at her. "Saint Jean report inside to the base CMO and offer her any assistance you can, but be aware that you may be called to assist with security here at a moment's notice." "Yes sir." Eva replied and then immediately went to report to the Base CMO, Doctor Harvey. Their conversation was brief, but to the point. Harvey assigned her working triage categorizations, which Eva was more than qualified to do. She was not that far from having her own medical license and provided that there weren't higher rated officers nearby, she was trained to handle all the same basic problems that a trauma doctor could. With her mind in sharp focus, except for the occasional worried thought about Jacobs, she went to work. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Durand - 0213) As officers and crew continued to trickle back to duty, time was dragging, at least subjectively. It was frustrating to be stuck on the bridge, but he had to let everyone do their jobs while he managed. Sometimes he hated being in command. It was so much easier to be *doing* rather than *waiting*. But that was an ugly, yet very important part of the job. The report from his acting chief engineer came through at last. It was concise, but as detailed as he would have expected. He smiled to himself, as he reaffirmed the correctness of his decision to replace Lorimar with Ensign Gesar. Clearly, the Boudicca’s engineering department was in capable hands indeed. =^=It's going to take longer than usual to bring up the core as quite a few things will have to be done manually. I will let you know as soon as I have an accurate time estimate.=^= Durand thought briefly about the rigors of climbing through the technological maze of companionways and Jeffries tubes to go all the way to main engineering. Gesar had made good time, whether he thought so or not. “Do your best, Chief,” he began superfluously. “And start thinking of contingency operations. We may need to feed some power to the station through the umbilical system if they can’t get their system up and quickly.” (Reply Gesar) =^=One last thing sir, I'm sending someone up to the bridge with a portable generator to get some power to the consoles until we get main power back online.=^= “Don’t make that a priority Chief. I hate the thoughts of someone lugging one of those damned things up fifteen decks, even with antigravs. I’d prefer you have everyone you can use working on getting our power grid restored.” (Reply Gesar, Any) Shortly after they finished conversing, a joint message from Commander Caskie and Captain Salid came through. They still had only audio capabilities, but it was enough for now. =^=Commander, this is Salid on the Rosenante, I'm glad to hear from you. Go ahead.=^= “Durand here, on the line as well... audio only Commander. Glad all your pieces are still assembled.” (Reply Caskie iyw, Salid iyw) He listened quietly, impressed and pleased with the easy rapport that Salid and his former First Officer clearly shared. Alan wasn’t about to interrupt. One of his greatest talents was in knowing when to speak, and when to shut up. This was clearly the latter, at least for the moment. The two former command team officers exchanged ideas and intentions, Durand finally interjecting when she made her needs and opinions known. “Already on it, Commander. The ship -- both ships, actually -- are at yellow alert, and we’ve instituted a general recall of personnel. We’ll be sending everyone we can spare, as soon as we can get them properly organized. Captain Salid has suggested we exercise caution in the interest of our people’s safety, and I concur completely.” (Reply Caskie iyw, Salid iyw) Salid put the next question, inquiring about the possibility of converting cargo space into ersatz medical treatment and triage areas. Durand nodded, unmindful of the fact that neither officer could see the gesture. “We just had a live exercise in that very thing Captain, about two months ago. Doctor Caskie well knows our capabilities. Of course, we are extremely limited until we restore our power grid. After that, you’d be amazed at what we can do. Mister Roberts--” “Aye sir, I’m on it. We’ll be ready to move into high gear as soon as the power comes on.” Durand clapped him on the shoulder and gave a light squeeze. “My operations officer tells me that they are working on that contingency now. I’ve also instructed the Chief Engineer to see about feeding power to the station through the umbilical system once the warp core is operational as we discussed earlier Captain.” (Reply Caskie, Salid, Any) After that lengthy exchange was concluded, he was about to put a question to OPS when the bridge audio system came to life again. =^=Gesar to Bridge. Captain Durand, I have received some data from the Starbase that I think you should have a look at. I am sending it to you now.=^= “Acknowledged.” He made his way to a vacant science console, where he was joined by Ensign Selek and Lt. Roberts. Roberts had diverted a portion of power to the console, and it blinked into operation, giving a dull lumination to the immediate area of the bridge. The three men huddled around the console and reviewed the information rapidly, Selek most quickly of all. “Sir, this information closely matches a data packet uploaded by Ensign Signos earlier. The backlog of communication traffic caused it to be held in the buffer until just a moment ago. Evidently she has also encountered these life forms.” “What do you make of them?” asked Durand quietly. “I do not currently have access to the library computer files containing xenological data Captain. Personally, I am unfamiliar with this species. My immediate comment, however, given the reports from Ensigns Jacobs and Signos would be that they are quite dangerous. I recommend extreme caution sir.” Durand nodded, saying nothing for a moment. “Durand to all Boudicca personnel. We have received reports of an as yet unidentified life form, definitely dangerous, possibly hostile. Uploading the information we have to anyone that has the capability to receive data packets. Use extreme caution, and take all necessary measures to protect yourselves. Further information will follow as we collate it.” He gestured to Roberts to begin the upload, cutting in the Rosenante and the station CO as addressees. “Captain Salid, this is Durand. Did you get the data packet we just sent you?” (Reply Salid, Any, ALL with working communications) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Engineering - ACEO Lt. JG Eian O'Neill - Day 3 - 0218) Eian kept hearing explosions, phaser fire, grunts from various individuals being hit by said weapons, and a few times he stole a glance at Jessica to make sure she was still alive. She was drawing the fire from him successfully. Whatever those bugs had done to him, he knew things were getting worse. His mind was getting even more clouded. He couldn't think of how to do a simple information download, and his emotions were amplified out of his control. He felt aggressive, like he wanted to jump into the mob and start hitting, but at the same time he felt terrified. At each phaser blast he ducked involuntarily. He was trained not to do these things, he was trained to focus on the task at hand. It was like all his training had been thrown out the window, and his mind was doing what it wanted. ~Subnet processor A to receiver H-1, Core information module K to receiver H-2, and the Rosenante's code is...what the hell is the Rosenante's code?~ Phaser fire came dangerously close to him, and he heard Jessica run out of power cells, and begin to resort to hand-to-hand combat. ~Frequency K-1...um...~ Panic started to settle in his chest, and he looked behind him for just a moment, in time to see Jessica roundhouse kick one of the mob members in the jaw. ~A-theta-charlie-Kilo-Foxtrot-5468~ The information was downloaded to the Rosenante's core, and now he just had to lock out the station's core so these lunatics in the mob wouldn't destroy the entire starbase. ~That's easy, it's just uh...~ He stared at the panel and his vision began to swim. ~Um...~ Jessica was about to be surrounded, and Eian needed to somehow access the information in his brain when his brain didn't want to cooperate. Finally it did, and he quickly entered the code. The crowd began to disperse, someone shouting something about 'them' coming. He ran over to Jessica. "Jessica? Can you hear me?" She wasn't responding. Eian felt the sudden urge to cry. He picked her up in his arms just as he heard someone call, "Hello, anyone there? I am Ensign(jg) Jacobs from the Boudicca. Again anyone there?" "Ensign Jacobs!" Eian shouted, probably louder than was necessary. "I locked out the core and sent the information to the Rosenante," he said, still not seeing the officer to whom he was speaking. He ran toward the entrance, and then nearly ran into Jacobs. "And I have to get her to sickbay," he said, a wild look in his eyes. Without another word, he began running toward where he believed Sickbay to be. (reply Jacobs iyw) His head was throbbing. He didn't realize it, but the five insects that had attached themselves to his brain stem were now sapping his energy at an accelerating rate. He had only minutes. He ran through the debris and the crowd, a refreshingly single-minded goal set in his head. He knew what he had to do. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Corridor - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 3, 0219) Ahmed hated waiting. He was an engineer and wanted so very badly to be working on the systems to get this problem fixed, but in the end he was also the Captain and as such he was forced by the restrictions of his duty to stay on the bridge coordinating and making difficult decisions. =^=Caskie to Boudicca and Rosenante. Can anyone hear me?=^= A familiar voice sounded over the bridge communications channel. "Put her on screen." Ahmed replied immediately. "We have her voice only." Someone replied. "Open a channel." Ahmed responded with a nod at the correction. "Channel open sir." "Commander, this is Salid on the Rosenante, I'm glad to hear from you. Go ahead." (reply Durand, Caskie) =^=I'm pretty glad to hear from both of you too Sirs. It's chaos down here. I've managed to make my way to main Sickbay. I have the base CMO here with a skeleton medical staff, one member of base security, Lt Trei and Security Officers Rosenbauer and Saint Jean from the Rose. Ensign Jacobs was here moments ago with a damage control team that Gesar had sent his way and I have sent them down to main engineering to help there. Unfortunately I have not yet managed to establish contact with anyone else. I've just got my hands on a communicator and thought it best to check in with both of you before I did anything else.=^= =^=Sirs communications are still down station wide we have had no word from station command or anyone else aboard the station. Have either of you heard from them?=^= "I spoke with Lieutenant Kraal a short while ago. Her confirms your reports of complete chaos. He's in contact with Starbase Chief of Security but no one else. I've instructed him to attempt to provide security support and to secure the promenade and all critical areas of the station to the best of their ability. To be honest commander, he's in way over his head right now." (Reply Durand, Caskie) "Well in that case sirs, as the senior officer on the ground at present I'm declaring an emergency and assuming charge until either of you tell me otherwise. We only have spotty emergency generator power, those are spread pretty thin and half of them are civilian. I don't have the manpower to requisition them for our use and even if I did I don't have the engineering teams to hook them up. I have virtually no security or medical personnel and we need help with everything. I need security teams, engineering teams and medical teams. I need the medical teams the most, but they aren't really going to be effective until we have power back and the riots have stopped." "Understood commander. I have Lieutenant matrix working to reinforce the capability of the Starbase's umbilicus as we speak. The idea will be to push as much power from the Rose's two Warp cores as possible into the Starbase. I don't know yet however if that will be a temporary solution until i know how badly the Base systems are shot. I'll have Jackson dispatch you a portable generator and someone to install it for you. Doctor Ichijo hasn't yet reported back to the ship, but as soon as she does, I'll have her put together a medical relief team to help you." (Reply Durand, Caskie) Josh lowered her voice, =^=Sirs, given that our power is down we only have a limited supply of oxygen on the base and the rioting crowds and the fires have seriously compromised that. Thankfully no civilians have yet thought of that, but it is only a matter of time before they do. Once that happens all hell will break loose over here.=^= There was concern and perhaps a hint of fear in her voice, and that more than anything brought the true scope of the situation home to Ahmed. "Commander, I assure you we'll do everything in our power to get things restored as soon as possible. in addition, we have enough power at the moment to start transporting off critical cases, children or high-risk personnel. If you need to use that option, contact mister Dawson. We'll convert all available cargo space into a triage and evacuation center. Captain Durand, is that a possibility for you as well?" (reply Caskie, Durand) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Corridor - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 3, 0222) =^=No I'm afraid not.=^= The CMO replied, =^=My communicator was not working, until I was aboard, I will try to raise them next. =^= "Understood Doctor. See if you can get your department organized and in a position to aid Starbase medical with injuries. I'm under the impression that there are going to be a great many injuries." =^=Certainly, Sir, I have been toying with the idea of introducing a mild tranquilizer within the Starbase, but I have not come up with a way to disburse it evenly. =^= "That might be an option, although I would be concerned for crew and also for some of the more frail inhabitants of the Starbase. If the details can be worked out we may consider it as a last act." =^=While it would be easy to carry a counteragent for any crew or essential crew, the proper introduction is necessary. It is dangerous, but may be an option. =^= "I would agree, but let's try to focus more on immediate medical needs rather than the finer aspects of crowd control doctor, that's why we have a security department." Salid reiterated. =^=I see, I will need security escorts for the relief parties and cross-trained personnel to bolster Medical, but I will liaison with those departments once I know what resources that I have. =^= There was a pause before the CMO continued.=^=Oh, Captain. There were two Klingons that I had to separate, they are cooling their heels in escape pods, I believe that there is about 12 hours of air contained within and they may need that long to contemplate on their anger management skills. =^= "Actually Doctor, they are in the Rosenante's Brig. It seems their escape pods were on a collision course for one of the parked freighters." Kimiko stopped =^=Oh, I see. Well… =^= "Let's not complicate things further lieutenant. Let's try to keep all the individuals on the Starbase and out of the escape pods until such time as it should prove necessary to evacuate the Starbase. As it is now, 38 additional personnel could have fit inside those escape pods alongside those Klingons, but as I was forced to destroy them, that is no longer an option." =^=Yes, sir =^= Kimiko responded. "I'm glad we understand each other lieutenant. Salid out." Ahmed closed the channel and went back to other tasks that required his attention. Josh was just returning to the doors when two bodies collapsed in front of her. Calling for back up which to be honest she wasn't certain that she would get at present given the dearth of medical staff in the room Josh managed to lug both of them one by one onto the nearest beds. Checking both of their pulses she found that whilst Signos, who she recognised, was in a deep sleep her pulse and blood pressure were well within normal so she turned to the other patient all the while asking the nurse that had appeared to help her to run bloodwork on Signos as soon as she could. She didn't know the other patient and their was nothing obviously wrong with him apart from some small cuts and contusions over his body. She could see nothing outwardly wrong with him but turning to him she watched as he twiched and convulsed constantly. Turning to Harvey, half a bay away she shouted across. "I need the imaging scanner. Any word on when it will be up an running? Watching as Harvey simply shook her head Josh nodded. "Ok, my patient is first in the queue please. All he had picked up was that the core had been locked out and information was sent to his ship, the Rosenante. "Ensign(jg) Jacobs to Rosenante" (Reply Rosante bridge crew) "I'm the ACEO from the Boudicca and I came to assist in engineering on the station. Lieutenant O'Neill was here but escorted another officer to sickbay. He mentioned he locked out the stations core and sent the data to you. I'd like to start repairs and get the power and communications back online, but I am gonna need the data he sent you. (Reply Rosante bridge crew) Jacobs had begun the steps in returning core control to a console from which he could operate, when the Sigma team leader approached him with a sitrep. "12 corpses, all terminals have been locked out, bare minimal power flow to those terminals, but no damage to the core reactor itself. " "Good" Jacobs replied. The man talking cut back in, "that's not it. Take a look at this." He handed him a tricorder with an un familiar life sign. "What the hell is that?" Jacobs exclaimed as he read the tricorder. The man grabbed Jacobs by the wrist and lifted the tricorder above them. ~What the Fu~ With great urgency Henry tapped his comm badge. " Jacobs to Ensign Gesar" (Reply Gesar) " I am uploading readings from my tricorder to you now, you need to see this sir." (Reply Gesar) "Myself and Sigma team made it to Main Engineering. They searched engineering and brought back the sitrep to me. They also gave me the tricorder scan of the life form." Jacobs paused as to catch his breath and let Ensign Gesar take what he has told him so far. "Sir, there are dozens of life form readings matching this one. Also, they are eating engineering." Mike asked the other ensign Hardesty to keep sharp for a moment while he spoke with the commander. "Yes Sir?" Mike said formally, even though it probably wasn't necessary. She nodded back towards the Klingon officer. "He's a bit of a hot head even for a Klingon Mike, try to keep the casualties as low as possible. I'm going to try to contact the ships. Good luck." "Understood commander." he replied and then headed back for the door. He wasn't back just a few moments when Trei approached him. "I take it that CDR Caskie doesn't think greatly of me. That being said she points to your experience so what do you suggest in this situation?" he stated, wasting no time. Mike raised an eyebrow before replying. "She didn't say anything of the sort, Lieutenant. She merely asked me to give you my best and to do everything in my power to minimize casualties with the crowd should it become necessary, that's all." Mike gave him a slight smile. "But since you asked sir. I recommend, that we close one-half of the main sickbay door to minimize tactical exposure to potential violence. Then I suggest that we post a single officer in the corridor to watch for trouble. Duly warned, we can make a pretty serious stand in the sickbay since everyone is armed. She went straight to a terminal, ignoring the anxious looks. She spotted a familiar head of hair. “Ensign Jorden” Kimiko called to a tousled hair ensign who was at the replicators chatting with a nurse. “Yes Ma’am” He replied looking guilty. Kimiko rolled her eyes. “Please come here” The doctor stated. “I have two jobs for you; first I am setting case Zephyr for medical, one bay, one theater and aftercare in Cargo…” She looked back at the screen “Three” “I think that we are going to have a lot more injured…” The ensign began Kimiko interrupted “I doubt it, most of the treatment is going to be onsite or at the starbase’s sickbay, due to the limited power for transport and the fact that riots don’t have a high percentage of gravely injured. If another bay or theater is needed, please consult with Pierson, who will be here shortly, though I doubt that we will have the personal to staff anything else.” Kimiko tapped her communicator and stated,“Broadcast to all Rosenante medical staff” The communicator gave a acknowledgement tone. “All medical staff currently aboard the Rosenante or five minutes out , not in a critical position, please report to Dr Jorden in Main sickbay for assignment. All staff aboard the Starbase, please report your position and ETA to Sickbay 1 on the Starbase as quickly as possible. Please comm Main sickbay.” (Reply All Medical) “And as your other job, please monitor the comm, I need some idea of how many people we have to work with” The ensign visibly swallowed and nodded. “Thank you” Kimiko replied and motioned him to a terminal. Watching him walk away, Kimiko felt that she had more confidence in ensign then he did. ~He will be alright~ Kimiko thought as pulled up file, spotted the Antican technician and called out “Miss Feeillvee” When the tall crewman joined her, Kimiko stated. “This is a list of all crossed-trained personal, I would like for you to see what crewmembers are certified corpsmen or paramedics, if and when they are aboard, and if they can be spared to assist with aftercare.” The woman nodded, “Yes sir.” The CMO left her to it and gathered a handful of doctors, nurses, and corpsmens “We are going to be heading to the starbase, directly to the main sickbay, where we will split up and see who we can help.” Kimiko made eye contact with each member. “Several points, first” Kimiko ticked off a finger “One, everybody is armed, period, that being said, let security do their job, no one here is fire support. Two, keep security in sight at all times, don’t go off by yourselves. I do not want a hostage situation.” Another finger was ticked off “Because of the power issue, I expect that we will not be able to transport very many people back, so make them count.” Kimiko placed her hands on her hips and finished, “Lastly we will be working with several different medical departments, everything that we do will reflect on the Rosenante and I have the upmost confidence each and every one of you will maintain her reputation of foremost ship of the fleet.” “I want everyone equipped and ready to go in fifteen minutes at the passenger umbilical, dismissed” Kimiko disappeared into her office where a spare uniform was waiting for her. That's the funny thing about poisons, one moment the person is fine but then in that next, something terribly wrong happens. Already the feeling was gone from her left arm and her right along with both her feet had the tingling sensation that came with the effects of the paralysis toxin. All around her body muscles were starting to not respond to her mental commands. She seemed at peace, but in reality, Jessica was wide awake, terrified. She tried to will herself to speak, to cry out but nothing would respond to her command. She tried to rise when Eian fell and dropped her to the floor. Again she lied there helpless. She was picked up and carried to a biobed, her pulse checked, then the Doctor or what she assumed was a doctor left. What ever was happening on the station they didn't want it aboard ship. People were becoming hysterical and violent, he had left the teams with orders to stun anyone who was trying to gain access to the ship without authorization. He was currently in the airlock getting updates from the security teams at the various access points as well as any forces who may be on the station helping in crowd control. He wasn't sure what had occured to cause the black out or the strange behavior but he had the feeling both were connected somehow. It had taken a while to fight his way through the crowd and help direct others to safety as he proceeded, the low light levels didn't help any in the least and seemed to fuel the hysteria and possibly some of the violence. This didn't appear to be a normal riot, there was more then fear driving these people and he hoped they figured out what it was before to many got injured or even killed. Nothing more needed to be said. Evans nodded confidently, Anton had to remember that some of these guys may have done this at least once before in an emergency situation. "Ready?... Mark." Anton looked over at two other crew members working side by side. "You," he pointed at one, "keep an eye on the antimatter flow to the injector coils and you," he pointed at the other, "keep an eye on the deuterium flow. Make sure the levels are stable." "Yes sir," they replied in unison. Anton was punching commands into his console. The core became alive as the two components interacted with the dilithium crystals generating electro-plasma. "The magnetic plasma conduits are online and working within normal parameters. Ladies and gentlemen the warp core is online. Increasing power output." The pulsing sound of the reaction within the warp core began increasing in speed. "We are stable across the board. I am activating the power transfer grid. As Anton activated the ships power distribution system the ships seemed to come alive as various computer stations not powered by portable generators began coming to life and the noise of the ship's systems was starting to fill the room. People would do anything to ward of the fear of darkness, even set fires, which was one of the more stupid things that could be done, in Kimiko’s opinion. ~All power’s down, including air recirculators and scrubbers, not to mention fire suppressors. ~ The doctor thought ~the last thing someone needs to be doing is lighting fires~ If there were a few more security officers, Kimiko would have been tempted to send them in to put out the fires, but it would have be pointless because they would be lit again just as soon as the party turned its back. ~I’m just here fix people, let engineering and security take can of its own~ Dr Ichijo was glad that the security ensign was in charge of getting them to the sickbay, that left her time to review the general layout of the starbase. ~If I remember correctly, there is a high concentration of bodies still on the concourse and two levels down, near the conservatory, oh that may be a problem~ The sound of a phaser cut though dark corridor, Kimiko was slammed against the wall and bit her tongue. “Oww, what?” she stated She got no response as she heard a mad scramble of people flattening against the wall. She shut off her padd and give them a minute to figure out what was going on. Kimiko felt someone moving up to her. “Yes, Harris, what is going on” Kimiko spoke in a whisper “Another barricade, ma’am” He replied calmly “Can we go around?” she asked “We would have to practicality walk around the area and approach from other direction” Kimiko didn’t like the sound of that. “How long would that take?” “It would probably add about twenty-five minutes, even if they hadn’t established another barricade” he replied “Not acceptable, if we can’t get though, then no one else can either, including Dr Candle’s team.” Kimiko stated “Hold here for a moment and lets see what we can come up with” The Doctor tapped her commucator “Dr Ichijo to 989 Main Sickbay” (Reply sickbay) “I and my party are at the junction of corridor 9C about five hundred yards from the front door, and have met with a barricade, I don’t believe that we can avoid doing something unpleasant, unless you happen to have a spare squad or two in there.” (Reply Medical) “I understand, we will be with you presently” Kimiko replied. (Reply Sickbay) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Sickbay - ACEO Lt JG Eian O'Neill - Day 3 - 0330) ~Eian walked down a dirt path in Ireland with bright green pastures on either side, and clear blue skies ahead. It was happy, vast, and magnificent. He felt calm and peaceful. He didn't know how long it lasted...it felt like quite a while...but soon the dirt path gave way to a marble floor, and the pastures changed to wood-paneled walls. He was walking down a corridor now, dimly lit and lined with portraits of ancient leaders from Earth's past. He wasn't in Ireland any longer. This, he recognized, was the Supreme Court of the United States of America, and he and his family had toured it long ago on one of their vacations. He entered the main courtroom and was faced with a magnificent sight. Sitting in the nine Justice's chairs were George Washington, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, Calvin Coolidge, Ronald Reagan, Martin Luther King Jr, Ghandi, Elie Wiesel, and David Patraeus. All belonging to Eian's long list of favorite figures in history. Jessica was stating her argument before the Justices. "I'll buy us some time," she said passionately. "Don't worry about the dress! It's only a flesh wound!" Eian agreed with an emphatic nod, hoping that the Justices would see her side of it. He looked around the audience and saw his father sitting with...his mother! "Mum!" he yelled, and stopped all the proceedings. Grace O'Neill stood up, the sun glinting off her hair as the wind blew it to the side and gave her a majestic look, despite the fact that they were indoors. "Eian, my baby," she said lovingly, and opened her arms to him. He ran to her, and embraced her. He was suddenly much smaller than her, at eye-level with her waist. She pulled away and held him by the shoulders. "You remember to wear a coat. It's cold out there. Wait your turn to speak. And remember always, God is with you, my blessed little boy." She kissed the top of his head, and then turned little Eian around, pushing him gently away from her. Eian's eyes were closed in the bliss of being with his mother again, but when he opened them, he was standing on the edge of an abyss, a raging fire beneath him. He looked across, and the nine Justices were all standing at the other side. There was a bridge to his right, and an old man stood at the side. "Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see," the bridgekeeper said. "Ask me your questions," Eian said bravely, suddenly growing to be full-sized again. "What is your name?" "I am my father, Liam O'Neill," his confident answer came before he could even think. "What is your quest?" the bridgekeeper asked, squinting one eye at Eian. "I seek the innards of a quail," Eian stated, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "And what is the Rosenante's main core frequency code?" "Um...uh..." suddenly, the answer stuck, and he didn't know. He was ejected, and he fell. Everything fell, all around him, and he felt his breath catch in his throat. His head spun, his surroundings spun, and the world was upside down. Out of nowhere, the wizard Gandalf from the old story The Lord of the Rings appeared and embraced him in his massive, powerful arms. They popped back to the other side of the bridge, appearing in a cloud of smoke. The Justices were gone, replaced by a massive dragon. Eian was a little child again, and Gandalf stepped in front of him, spread his arms wide, and slammed his staff down yelling, "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" The dragon breathed fire and enveloped Gandalf in a ball of flames, and Eian cried, his heart breaking as his hero died a horrible death. He felt someone lift him up and carry him away, and soon he was in the woods, huddled under a tree with a large figure by the fire, watching over him. "Rest now," the figure said, and Eian felt sleepy.
