Surely the Ferengi would be breaking ore in the most desolate area imagined for the rest of his life, but he seemed awfully confidant and even the smirk that seem part of his permanent features seemed a little more…. ~smirker~ Kimiko thought ~not really a word, I suppose. Regardless, he is not going to come out of this unscathed, even if he avoids punishment from the Federation, he will have to look over his shoulder for a certain Romulain for a very long time. Not to mention, he broke a very important Ferengi tradition, he got caught and not even by a proper Ferengi, but by Starfleet. ~ Kimiko smiled into her cup. ~Oh, yes. He will lose a great deal of money and face. A fate worse than death.~ Kimiko felt the briefing was drawing to a close when the Captian announced that leave had been extended ~Great, hopefully that scarf is still there~ She looked up as the Captain paused and stated. "Now before we move to our preparations for a proper leave, I have a few more items on my agenda." "First among them is a word of appreciation to those of you that helped solve the murder of Captain Taylor as well as uncovering a serious need for other members of the Starbase's senior staff to be reviewed. The Judge Advocate's office will be dispatching investigators to follow-up on the evidence of corruption among this facilities senior staff, but in the meantime, the officers in question will not be relieved until the JAG office have reached their decision." ~Reviewed, I guess that is one word.~ Kimiko thought ~they need to transfer all the senior staff to the furthest reaches of Starfleet, find some nice little iceball of a planet, that each one of them can retire from. Of course, those officers that didn’t take a hand in Taylor’s shadiness, that is. Those that did….~ "You should also be aware that all judgments made by the tournament panel are also under review and that the Association for Competitive Martial Training that oversees the tournament every year will most likely be invalidating several of the judges scores and may even reassess the placements of competitors based on captured holographic data made of the tournament." ~hum, that nice~ Kimiko thought, she really hadn’t considered the tournament a real tournament and hadn’t given it much thought. A bit of sour grapes, she recognized, but whatever gets you though. "Finally, the Holographic assassin program has been successfully decompiled and the source code destroyed. It was felt that the application of such technology could be nothing but baneful to the fleet and to the ideals of the Federation." Kimiko had doubts about destroying any knowledge, what was created could be created again and it was a well known fact that humanoids were never more creative when money, sex, or power was involved. If you destroyed a gun and thought that you were safe, then you would not be prepared if someone else came up with a different gun and shot you. Kimiko watched as Sanok was promoted. She didn’t know the Vulcan very well, but he seemed to be very much on top of things. "Ensign Ichijo, front and center." Kimiko tried to copy the Vulcan’s reserve and thought that she was doing well. ~Yay me. I will take a promotion over a trophy anytime~ Ahmed smiled and repeated the promotion process. "For service and dedication to the ideals of the United Federation of Planets, and in recognition of your ongoing initiative and skill, I hereby promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade." "Congratulations, Lieutenant." He said and shook the newly minted lieutenant's hand. “Thank you, sir” Kimiko replied and shook his hand. As she resumed her seat, she planned to do some serious preening. ~only five minutes~ Kimiko thought ~don’t want to get a swelled head~ Kimiko watched as O’Neal got promotion and for a moment as the Captain pinned his rank insigna on, it looked like Ensign, no Lieutenant aged at least a year. O’Neal returned to his seat with a huge grin. ~Nope, I guess I was wrong, not that I blame him.~ The meeting was over and Kimiko headed back to her cabin for some well deserved preening. (Reply none) (Posted by Jack) ======================================================= (USS Boudicca – Ready Room – CO Captain Durand – 0804) Alan listened to first Caskie, then Trei relate their respective versions of the events in question. It was, he mused, like listening to a sporting event being broadcast by two different commentators. Same events, considerably different perspectives. He steepled his fingers together as he rested his hands lightly on his desk and weighed the recounting, attempting to sort fact from opinion, objective from subjective. Manifestly, not an easy job, and certainly not one he would undertake, given a choice. ~That’s what they give you that extra pip for. You get all the best jobs, and when the problem lands in your lap, there’s no one left to pass it to, baby… so deal with it…~ He looked at Trei and shook his head slightly. “Lieutenant, I’m afraid you are proceeding from a false assumption. *No* punishment has been meted out, to either you or anyone else. The very purpose of this proceeding is to determine *if* any action is warranted. Commander Caskie and I opted to adjudicate the issue in this fashion so that no official charges would be placed upon your record. Assuming you accept the judgment of mast, that will remain in force.” He rapped his thumbs lightly on the desk several times, his only outward display of any emotion whatsoever. “Lieutenant, my responsibility in this matter is quite clear, spelled out both by regulations, and by long standing tradition and past practice. I must weigh the facts of the events in question. They are, for the most part, undisputed. I must also consider my observations of your conduct after I arrived, tempering that with your excellent service record, and the testimony of the other principles involved. Having said all that however, I wish to once again make it quite clear that no ‘punishment’ has been weighed as yet.” He studied both officers once again. "Do either of you have anything further you wish to add? Or any questions you'd care to pose?" (Reply Trei, Caskie, Room for more) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 2 - 0807) The Captain regarding both of them weighed up what each of them had said before he began speaking again. "Do either of you have anything further you wish to add? Or any questions you'd care to pose?" Josh nodded. "I do Sir. I would like to add that I believe that Lt Trei did not act out of malice but acted out of a genuine wish to help and alleviate the situation. I believe that he truly did think that his actions would help however, and I must stress this point, I also believe that he failed to fully think his actions through before he acted. I also need to point out that he failed to clear his actions with Ensign Gesar who was the officer in charge and available for consultation at that time. Had he done so Ensign Gesar might have been able to give him different orders or forestall him from any inappropriate action. Whilst unfortunately I do find his actions responsible for the deaths of our personnel, I do not think him criminally responsible for those deaths and I would urge you to take this into consideration when you reach a decision regarding this matter. (Reply Trei iyw, Durand) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - QV - aCEO Ensign Anton Gesar - 0823) Anton listened to the Ensign. "Yes of course. I am from Earth, so far as I know I was born in Russia though I don't know who my parents are. After my father adopted me is the day I pretty much started being groomed for Starfleet. For a period my father was an instructor at the Academy though that would have been before your time. And though he was a strategist I just seemed to have a passion for engineering." Anton took a sip of his coffee. "You're right, this was good. I think will make this a regular thing. Will meet occasionally to allow us to get better acquainted." "Sir, where do you plan on spending your New Years?" (Reply Gesar) "I will be at the County Cork, will I see you there?" (Reply Gesar) (Posted by Darryl) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- The County Cork- SO, Ensign Mike Rosenbauer, Day 2- 2330) Josh smiled at him and then shook her head, "No, actually that depends on you. But if you don't, I'm pretty sure that I can find something for you to do that is probably a lot more interesting than you had planned for this evening." Mike's smile really blossomed then. "Well since you put it that way..." He said, purposefully drawing out the pause until he finally winked at her and then finished his sentence, "... I'd say I'm all yours." "People always tend to sell us short!" She laughed, she tried not to, but she couldn't help herself. "Yes...that...is...true." She said between breaths. Eian laughed. ~She liked the joke! Score one for me!~ "You know, I just graduated from the Academy a few months ago, too. And one of my majors was Tactical--I was in Blue Class 4. How about you?" "Really, I was in Red three." Her voice changed a bit. "If you majored in tactical then why did you go into engineering. Why not TAC/OPS? (reply Eian) She continued to sip her drink, she felt refreshed. It was more than just the drink it was the conversation. It felt good to have someone that she could relate to. "So why did you join star fleet?" She asked curiously tiring to keep the conversation going. There was so much she wanted to ask him. So much she wanted to talk to him about. ~Well start here and see where we go.~ (reply Eian.) There conversation continued to what was sure to be the magic hour. Midnight was quickly approaching, and the ball was soon to drop. The throng of celebrators took up the count. "10...9...8...7...6...5..." Jessica reached to Eian and took his and into hers and leaned into him. "4...3...2...1... Happy New Year!" Everyone shouted. Jessica shouted and in the traditions of earth, turned on Eian, and threw her hands around him and gave him a light hearted kiss. "For good luck on the coming year." She replied happily (reply Eian.) He had a very lovely smile. "I hope you don't get the wrong idea about me Henry. I'm not that kind of girl, I was just backed into a corner, and you looked like a nice fellow." She explained. "I hope I haven't inconvenienced you?" "Do not worry Eva your reputation is untarnished with me. And from this point on please inconvenience any time you like." He replied with a chuckle and a smile. Eva blushed as she continued, "Truth of the matter was, some of these guys only have one thing in mind, and well, I'd rather really get to know someone first, if you get my drift. I happened to need someone to kiss to drive away the sharks and you looked like someone that needed to be kissed. I hope I didn't embarrass you?" Jacobs responded after a quick thought. " I totally understand what you have been going through and I was glad to help. I actually appreciate the attention and your right that kiss really brightened up my night, I am not embarrassed at all." Jacobs paused in his talking to drink again from drink in his cup and continued. "I'm actually glad you stopped and talked with me, it beats sitting here alone. Hmm I wonder though, since you have already done it, does this mean you won't kiss me at the end of the count down? You know its a tradition." Eva couldn't help but smile. The man had confidence and to be honest she wasn't entirely opposed to kissing him again. After all, who was she to shun tradition? "Well Mister Jacobs..." She proclaimed with a false sense of propriety, "I do believe that I must do my part to preserve our collective Heritage." She gave him a smile and a very exaggerated flutter of her eyelashes." And one of my majors was Tactical--I was in Blue Class 4. How about you?" "Really, I was in Red three." Her voice changed a bit. "If you majored in tactical then why did you go into engineering. Why not TAC/OPS? ~If she was in Red three, no wonder we never saw each other.~ "Weapons engineering was a concentration of mine my first two years," Eian explained, used to getting the question. "Then I took some time off going into my third year, and I worked as a drydock mechanic for a year and a half. It counted toward engineering credits, and so I ended up graduating with two majors and a minor." He smiled. "Starfleet needed an engineer on the Rosenante, so here I am. But I still want to transfer into tactical at some point." He would have been eligible for a transfer after this latest promotion, but he liked the Rose and wanted to wait until a tactical position opened up. Plus, Ben had said he would put in a good word for him when one did open up. He could sense she was relaxing, and he was too. It was easy for them to relate to each other, and Eian was having a great time. This was one of the few one-on-one conversations that he wanted to go longer. "So why did you join star fleet?" She asked. "Well, my dad is in Starfleet and so was my mum," he said, hearing his own very slight Irish accent when he spoke about his mother. Perhaps it was the surroundings or perhaps it was that whenever he thought about her, he thought about her voice, but he never failed to pronounce her title as 'mum'. "I grew up on starships and around Starfleet, and I always knew I wanted to join. And when the civil war started, I realized it wasn't just a want anymore...upholding the values and principles of the Federation is something I *need* to do with my life." He smiled somewhat sheepishly. "Sorry if I got a little preachy there. So how about you--why'd you join?" (reply Jessica) They continued talking to midnight, and then everyone started to count. At 5, Jessica took Eian's hand and leaned into him, and he felt warm tingles shoot up his spine. He gave her hand a squeeze and smiled at her, so pleased that she seemed to have the same feelings he did, that he couldn't even think straight. He completely missed the ball dropping because he was looking at Jessica's beautiful face, and he was internally debating whether or not he could kiss her. Amidst the cheerful screams of "Happy New Year!" Jessica threw her arms around Eian and gave him a quick, light kiss. "For good luck on the coming year," she explained, and Eian grinned. Hoping she could hear him, he leaned in and said, "And in return, I'll offer you a traditional Irish blessing. May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains soft upon your fields, and may God hold you in the palm of His hand." He had no idea whether she believed in God or not, but it didn't much matter--the idea was the same. He smiled, and awaited her reply. ~You haven't smiled this much in years, Eian,~ he thought to himself. ~But then, it's hard not to smile in the company of someone like Jessica.~ (reply Jessica) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - RJ's - FO - Commander T'Larah Sullivan - Lt Doug Masters - 2351) T'Larah and Doug entered RJ's after a brief discussion that the name more resembled a probitionist speak-easy then anything. Upon entering Doug payed the door fee for both of them. T'Larah's attire was drawing more then a few on lookers. "A few drinks?" Doug asked straining to hear himself over the noise of the anticipating crowd. "What would be appropriate?" she asked. Doug smiled and approached the bartender. Somehow he managed to squeeze through and get them both an order, "Two scotches, single malt, neat." he said and the barkeep expertly made the drinks and handed them to Doug in exchange for some latinum. Doug left a little more for the man behind the bar who nodded and smiled. T'Larah didn't have long to wait, and Doug was back with two glasses each filled half full with an amber colored liquid. He offered her one and kept the other. "What is this?" she asked. "Liquid courage, drink up." Doug responded. ~Liquid courage? How can one elicit an emotional response with a liquid? Is this oral epinepherine?~ Doug saw the puzzled look on her face, "Just drink it, your Vulcan metabolism can surely handle something that a human can." ~He has a point.~ He started his drink and shortly after she did too. A slightly sweet but rich and powerfull liquid assaulted T'Larah's senses. Each additional sip became easier, then the draws off the glass got longer, soon it was half gone. "This is the part I was telling you about." Doug said and pointed to the nearest large monitor. "The ball drop?" T'Larah asked, he head felt a little light. "Yeah that it." "5...4...3...2..1" chanted the crowd as the count down finished. "Happy New Year!" "This next part is an Earth tradition you may not be aware of." Doug said as he leaned in and stole a long kiss. He put into it all that he felt for her, liquid courage in full swing. T'Larah was suprised at this but Doug was even more suprise when T'Larah returned the embrace and the kiss. (reply any at RJ's) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- The County Cork- SO, Ensign Mike Rosenbauer, Day 2- 2356) Josh stood up and smiled as Mike also rose to his feet. The excitement in the pub was growing with each passing second as the crowd turned to face the monitors showing the replica of the Time's Square ball preparing for it's descent. "...3.... 2.... 1...." They canted in a collective voice. And then the magic moment: MIdnight. Just as the ball began it's plummet and the chimes on the clocks in the bar sounded, Josh turned to Mike, whispered, "Happy New Year Sweetheart." and then wrapped her slender arms around him and kissed him with a familiar urgent passion that he had come to miss in the time that they had been apart. He reciprocated of course. Taking her in his strong arms and pulling her body tightly against his. The passion of desire passed between them at the lips. It was an exhilaration that began there and then spread across this body like a wave of static that stimulated the senses and electrified the limited space between them. "Why don't we get out of here?" he whispered. (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - County Cork - ATAC/SC Ensign(jg) Jessica Signos - Day 2 - 2357) "Why did I join... (reply Eian) Time passed, the ball dropped and they shared the fated kiss of the New Year. She could hear him if only barley over the roaring crowd, has he leaned in and said, "And in return, I'll offer you a traditional Irish blessing. Even though her family was more spiritual than religious she answered in kind. "May God bless you, May God keep you, May God set you free." She wrapped her arms around him till the lights went out. (reply Eian) (post Matthew Locke) ======================================================= (Starbase 989 - The County Cork- SO Ensign Eva Saint Jean- Day 3- 0048) Eva and Henry had hit it off pretty well. They spoke about a lot of things; family, friends, duties. And for a change Eva was pleased to make the acquaintance of a man that was interested in her for who she was rather than for what she could do for him. It was both a refreshing change and a liberating one. And the kiss they shared at Midnight had come naturally and did not have to be forced. It was also rather enjoyable. She'd had a few drinks and was feeling just a bit tipsy, but all of that evaporated away when the station's lights went out. O'Neill immediately sprang into action calming the crowd of civilians and taking charge, just like an officer should. She wondered if any of the higher ranking officers would hold that against him, seeing as how he technically didn't rank them. But still, it was the right thing to do, in her opinion anyway, and Eian apparently felt the same way. He wasn't alone in his decisiveness. A woman had joined him on the bar, and she seemed to have the demeanor of a Starfleet officer. And then there was Henry, calling into his department head for instructions. After his conversation with his superior, Jacobs turned to her, "Eva, I'm sure you may be needed somewhere so I wont keep you. I'm going down to the station reactor to see if I can help. I promise I'll find you and we can continue this conversation, maybe over dinner?" Eva smiled. "Absolutely. Drop me a message after things have settled down." she replied. A few moments later she found herself in the area between the three sponsoring businesses as a mob of people poured into the area intent on spreading havoc in the confusion offered by the power failure. She couldn't really see very well, but there were already enough fires burning on the promenade to at least silhouette the mob as it charged forward. Some of the mob had already reached the area and a pitched battle was underway in and around Braak's bar between bodyguards and riotous looters. Eva stood near the entry to The Cork, the few civilians that remained were huddled inside, while some of the starfleet officers were forming a makeshift cordon in anticipation of the coming wave of violence. A sudden explosion of light filled the area, scattering burning liquid on the deck near Braak's. Someone had used a Molotov Cocktail. Things had just gotten considerably more hazardous. Suddenly a Klingon barreled past her and towards the area near the explosion. He hit the crowd running, knocking down several of the rioters along his path. Eva paused for just a moment and then followed along. Her movement prompted others to follow her as well. There was work to do. He reached where he wanted to be and then raised his phaser into the air and fired it off. It seemed to have no affect on the crowd. As if in response to their challenge, the Security Officer bellowed. It was a deep feral growl that threatened the promise of injury if the crowd persisted. "Whoever is in charge here, stand with me and get this mob under control. I'll fight if I have to, but I would rather do it in an organized fashion." He stated towards the mob. His words didn't seem to have any real affect however, as the multi-bodied beast suddenly surged forward at his challenge and attacked! (reply Trei, Any Others in the immediate area.) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca – Bridge – CO Captain Durand – 0054) “Operations, what can you tell me about the situation on the station?” Ensign Selek, ordinarily one of the Boudicca’s flight control officers was pulling double duty at the moment, pending the arrival of a regular operations officer for the Yellow Alert. “Sir, we have a near total deficiency of information at the moment. Our sensors are functional at a minimal level only until auxiliary power is restored. Low resolution passive scanning indicates a total power failure on the station. I would surmise that whatever befell the station has affected the power grid on a massive scale,” replied the Vulcan. Durand considered the implications of that for a beat, then posed another question. “Mister Selek, do we have power enough for a visual of the station on the main viewer?” Selek consulted the OPS controls quickly. “Negative, Captain. Emergency power is insufficient for imaging on the main viewer. I can, however, bring a low resolution image to any secondary viewer of your choice.” “On screen… *any* screen, do it.” One of the smaller, much less energy hungry viewers flickered to life on the starboard side of the bridge near the OPS console. Durand studied it briefly. The detail was sparse, but startling. The starbase was in near total darkness, the twinkling of ambient starlight on the hull surfaces clearly evident. A much closer light source, that of the Rosenante, was a brilliant jewel near one edge of the screen. Evidently, they had some semblance of normal power levels aboard. =^=Gesar to Captain Durand, I am on the Starbase. Unless you have other orders for me sir I am heading to the Boudicca.=^= ~That’s the first piece of good news I’ve had lately!~ “Acknowledged Mister Gesar. Expedite your return as best you can. The ship is at Yellow Alert. We’ve had a complete cutoff of external support power. We’re on batteries here until your people get auxiliary power up. What’s the situation aboard the station?” (Reply Gesar) After acknowledging the Chief Engineer’s report, his assistant checked in. =^= Ensign Jacobs to Captain Durand.=^= “Go ahead Jacobs.” =^=I talked to Ensign Gesar moments ago, what do you need us to do?=^= He felt a brief flash of irritation, but immediately suppressed it. ~If you were just speaking with your Department Head, why are you asking me what to do?~ “Follow the orders you were given by the Chief Engineer. If he gave you no specific orders, then I suggest you respond to your alert station and await further direction. Out.” (Reply Jacobs iyw) Selek was next. “Captain, I have Captain Salid of the Rosenante on audio.” “Very well, go.” =^=Captain Durand,=^= came the voice over the bridge audio circuit. =^=This is Salid, How can I be of assistance to you tonight?=^= Durand couldn’t help but smile at the response. It was pleasing indeed to deal with an oasis of calm professionalism in the midst of a storm of the unexpected. “Captain, we’ve lost external support from the station. We are bringing our internal power systems on line, but we are on emergency power as yet. I’ve got no sensor capability worth mentioning over here, can you shed any light on the situation? We’ve gone to Yellow Alert, and security alert until we find out what’s happening.” (Reply Salid, Any, Room for more) After a lengthy and informative exchange with Captain Salid, Lt. We are under a security alert here, as well as general yellow alert. Unless there is immediate danger to lives there, your primary duty is to the Boudicca.” (Reply Trei) He listened intently as Trei answered his questions. “Very well Lieutenant, you are doing the right thing. We’ll secure the ship with the personnel we have aboard. Coordinate your actions with base security and assist them as necessary. Take no undue risks, and report as warranted. I’ll send a medical and engineering team to assist you.” (Reply Trei, Any) “Durand to Doctor Candle. All of you, safety of our people has unconditional priority. Keep us informed, out.” He turned to Selek and spoke once again. “Ensign, locate Commander Caskie and have her stand ready to coordinate our people aboard the station, I’ll remain here for the time being.” “Aye sir.” (Reply Gesar, Jacobs, Trei, Candle, Caskie, Salid, Any) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 County Cork- CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma- 0058) Ben had been making his way around the County Cork as the the countdown began, he wished that Marah was here with him to brighten his mood a little. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves pretty well, after the countdown was over everyone was shouting happy new year and Ben saw several people exchange hugs and kisses which made him miss Marah a little more. He wonder how wise it had been to attend the party, maybe he should have joined Sanok in a duty shift. Everyone was moving about, chatting and drinking and having a good time. Everyone that was except for Ben, he decided he was going to leave and just as he reached the entrance everything went dark. It seemed like the whole station was affected, he could see very little light from outside and not much more inside. People began to panic a little as they tried to get a handle on what was happening, in Ben's experience things like this rarely ended well. A large group of spooked people were prone to irrational thinking and more often then not violence. He could picture the stampede already, he'd been involved in several and had been severely injured in one. Somewhere in the distance he recognized Eian's voice telling everyone that was a civilian to return to quarters and all Starfleet personnel to report to thier superiors. "Everyone calmly head this way." Ben shouted. "Follow my voice and I'll help you out, please remain cam and proceed in an orderly fashion." Slowly several people found him and he directed them out, but it didn't take long for their pace to quicken, as they gained more room inside they began moving quicker. Soon things would get out of hand. "Please remain calm everyone, there's no need to run." Ben calmly stated hoping his tone would ease the worries of the crowd. "It's just a power failure, everything will be sorted out shortly and power will be restored." He hoped he was correct and it was only a minor overload or a few shorted out circuits. (reply any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - County Cork - ATAC/SC Ensign(jg) Jessica Signos - Day 3 - 0059*) She was happy, the new year seemed to be going well. Maybe it was the celebration, but Jessica dared to hope. Then the light went out, people screamed, the celebration was over in a flash. Next she knew she was pushed into the bar, not forcefully, an act of protection, a courtesy from Eian. Her hand found the railing and in a instant she was atop the bar again by Eian's side. Training Had taught her to be prepared that's why strapped to her leg was a tactical pack. She listened to him, calm the crowd and give his orders. It was sound advise. While she listened though she opened her pack, and pulled out it's contents. The tactical circlet was the first piece of equipment she dawned. The eye piece pollarized to night and gave her sight when others had none. The second, of course was a tricorder. Third was a broken down phaser that she quickly and deftly reassembled, and made operable. She turned to Eian "Here, " She handed him a second tactical circlet, and her tricorder. "This might help, the tricorder is already linked to the eyepiece on the circlet." She said matter of factually. But it was clear in the darkness Jessica's demeanor changed. She was no longer the happy, little girl, that loved to dance and smell of flowers. She was something different. Jessica had fallen into a form she thought she could leave behind, but it was not so. She had the look of someone who could precive the darkness, even with out the aid of the equipment she wore. The look of one that had been in many a fight, both has hunted and prey. One who in the darkness could survive the madness. She followed Eian off the bar. "Now what, where to?" (reply Eian, or anyone else.) (posted by Matthew Locke) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - County Cork - ACEO Lt. JG Eian O'Neill - Day 3 - 0101) She liked him. She really liked him. He could sense it. It was something he had only come by a few times--most girls were put off by his odd, fidgety habits when he was a boy, and he hadn't had a whole lot of luck with women in the Academy. He was dumped three times because of his religion, people thinking he was insane for celebrating such ancient traditions. He dumped one cadet because although she had a great personality, it turned out that neither one of them had anything in common. And his one successful relationship had ended because the cadet graduated earlier than he did, and ended up meeting someone else within weeks of her first ship assignment. Although Jessica and he didn't have a 'relationship,' he couldn't deny that there seemed to be a connection that he hadn't experienced with anyone else before. Not only did she really like him, she seemed to be genuinely interested in him. They had talked about his WWII uniform, talked about martial arts, and had talked about both of their experiences as children being mistaken for younger kids. Jessica had laughed when Eian told the story about the time when he was eleven years old and was mistakenly placed in the beginner's swimming class on the ship with six-year-olds. He didn't realize anything was wrong until he approached the holodeck swimming pool and realized that everyone else had water wings. Then, all of a sudden, the lights went out. Eian acted quickly, and once he had finished his announcement to the patrons, he felt Jessica hand him some gear. "Here, " she said, and he felt a tactical circlet and tricorder in his hands. "This might help, the tricorder is already linked to the eyepiece on the circlet." She said, her tone serious and practiced. It was such a change from only a few moments ago, but Eian adapted to change quickly and never had any problems adjusting. In fact, adaptation and resilience were two of his most important survival traits. He guessed that Jessica had been in some tight situations, just as he had, and he supposed that was where the practiced tone came from. With crowd control going well in the Cork but with absolute chaos occurring out in the Promenade, he knew it was time to act. He put the eyepiece on and could finally see around him. He climbed off the bar. "Now what, where to?" Jessica asked. "I'll check in with my department head on the Rosenante, see if he needs me in Engineering. If not, I'm gonna suggest we head to the base engineering department. They're going to need all the engineering help they can get and I'm sure it couldn't hurt to have an extra security officer down there, too. We're not the only people who know where engineering is, and there'll be a lot of angry civilians down there demanding the problem get solved *now.*" Eian said. He knew how crowds behaved and could predict the behavior of the starbase personnel after the initial shock wore off. There would be riots on the Promenade by people who were looting, angry at no one in particular, or scared out of their minds. But the real threat came from those whose anger was directed where it "belonged," because a riot in engineering could mean the death of all of them. (reply Signos iyw) "O'Neill to Matrix. Given the table he and Ensign Gesar were at, it was probably best to stay put until the situation calmed down. Their table was off of center of the bar and only a few meters from an interior wall. Matrix reached for his ever present PADD, but he left it in engineering. "O'Neill to Matrix. Sir, what's happened? Do you need me in Engineering?" =^= Mister O'Neill. I'm likely just across the bar from you. Make your way over to main engineering on the Starbase. Provide any assistance you can and give me a report once you know what's happened. Matrix out. =^= (Reply O'Neill) "Well Mister Gesar...our first meeting has been cut short and I should make my way back to my ship to assess what's going on and render aid to the starbase if needed. I'll contact you as soon as I can. For now I'd say our meeting later this morning is postponed." (Reply Gesar) =^= Matrix to the Rosenante, main engineering. Report please. =^= (Reply anyone aboard the Rosenante in engineering) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Bridge, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 3- 0104*) The turbo lift doors slid open effortlessly and Salid stepped out onto the woefully undermanned bridge of the Rosenante. Jackson was there manning the Operations department. He reported as soon as the captain stepped onto the bridge. "Sir SB 989 has lost all power. We are currently running on the Secondary core. All Critical systems have power." Ahmed gave him a nod of acknowledgement as he continued his conversation with Durand. =^=Captain, we’ve lost external support from the station. We are bringing our internal power systems on line, but we are on emergency power as yet. I’ve got no sensor capability worth mentioning over here, can you shed any light on the situation? We’ve gone to Yellow Alert, and security alert until we find out what’s happening.=^= The Rosenante's captain stepped over to the Engineering station located at the rear of the bridge and tapped in a few commands. For once he was immensely glad that they always kept the secondary Warp Core on Active standby. "It looks pretty bad over there Captain." He reported. "Looks as if the station has suffered some sort of massive power cascade failure. Their life support and all primary power systems are off line. Looks like the only things operational are the gravity plating generators which kicked in as soon as they lost their main power feed." (reply Durand) "Are you connected to the station Captain?" (reply Durand) "It is my intention to shunt a great deal of our available power back into the station in the hopes of at least powering life support. Once we get the primary Warp Core on-line again, we should be able to stabilize things with the station's primary power needs, at least for the bare minimums, primarily Life support and communications. It's going to take some quick work by the engineering teams to reinforce the capabilities of the station umbilicus to handle that sort of power load without burning everything out in the process. If we could add some of the boudicca's power to that equation I think it would greatly improve our chances of success. Once we've managed some semblance of stabilization, we can commandeer any freighters or other ships on station power to supplement our efforts as needed." (reply Durand) "Understood. Do you require any additional personnel or resources at this time? And have you heard any reports from the station or any of your personnel there? Looks like the relays are down, so we'll deploy a communications relay satellite to traffic all communications to and from the starbase. We'll have that deployed shortly which should aid in communications with the starbase and with traffic." (reply Durand) "One more thing that you'll need to know Captain. Lieutenant Kraal, the acting CO for the Starbase is new to the position and may need a great deal of oversight and assistance in coordinating efforts on the station. Do you have someone that can aid him as a Liaison, while I have my Chief of Operations coordinating the more difficult aspects of organization?" (reply Durand) "I would also like to offer you one additional piece of advise. I was on Starbase geneva during the Humans for Humanity Virus scare. As a result I had the opportunity to see the devolution of the mob first hand. I highly recommend that you recall as many of your personnel as possible, that you redeploy them in force only and that you secure your gangplank with all the security personnel you can spare. While this situation is a little different than that one, it is my belief that the outcome will be the same." (reply Durand) "I understand captain. I plan to set up regular updates to your ship as soon as I can arrange it. I would appreciate if you could do the same. Should you require anything at all, we will be glad to assist you." (reply Durand) "Salid out." Ahmed closed the channel. Then turned to Tom. "Mister Jackson. Take us to Yellow Alert. Signal all crew off ship to report their status as soon as possible. Recall anyone not providing immediate aid to the station or to civilians or station personnel." (reply Jackson) "Then have Lieutenant Soma put together an oversized security detail. Advise him to be prepared for a riot, and order him to secure the gangplank. Have Lieutenant Sanok, coordinate with Medical and put together a mixed security and medical team to aid in disaster recovery. Have him liaise with The Boudicca's personnel as well, so that we can coordinate our efforts." (reply Jackson) "Once that's done lieutenant, I want you to deploy a class I communications relay probe to handle all the emergency communications traffic until we can get the station's communications systems up. I need you to actively take charge and coordinate all relief efforts between the Boudicca and the Rosenante where the station is concerned. I want you to prioritize Medical efforts, then basic necessities followed by damage control as needed, have Mister Smith assist you." (reply Jackson) Once Ahmed was finished giving his orders to his second officer, he tapped his commbadge again, "Salid to Matrix" NRPG: I know that Steve is unavailable for a few days, but we can say that Matrix gets things moving pretty quickly. Steve can back post it when he's able to write, and he's recovered from his bad food experience. If needed, Morgan and Todd, you can assume that Matrix has passed on these orders. (reply Matrix) "Lieutenant, I need you to bring the Primary core back on-line as soon as possible, then send a scouting team to the Starbase to ascertain the extent of their power failure and formulate a way to get it restored. While your scout team is doing that, I need you formulate and make modifications to the umbilicus between the Rosenante and the station. The plan there is to allow us to shunt as much of our available power as we can into the station to run life support and basic services. If necessary, coordinate your efforts with the Boudicca and assist them in doing the same unless Captain Durand has other ideas. Since we do not know the extent of the failure on the station, I'm hedging all our bets. You are not to allow any of your engineering teams to operate on the station without a security detail." (reply Matrix) "Understood Lieutenant. Keep me advised. Salid out." She was about to answer his question when from outside the Country Cork, from Baarks Bar came an explosion of an angry mob. has too much drink and not enough control burst into a riot. After a minute, it was clear the there was something very wrong. Even on emergency power, there should be some kind of residual lighting. Kimiko left the party early after the press of bodies, the flashing lights, and loud noises threatened to give her a migraine. She promised herself that she would try to be more social tomorrow and headed back to the ship. Halfway to the ship, all the lights went out and she staggered into a wall. Kimiko accessed the situation; no alert klaxons, no lights, and no sounds of air escaping. ~and likely no life support, dust shields, or station-keeping thrusters~ Kimiko thought ~well, enough of the good news.~ Kimiko reached into her purse for her communicator, fumbling though the semi-familiar shapes. ~Excellent, my padd~ Kimiko thanked her obsessive nature (and her fear of getting lost) and pulled out the device as well as the communicator. The doctor tapped the communicator, there was no response. For the moment the darkness seemed overwhelming, oppressive, and terrifying; and just for a second, Kimi felt alone in the universe, truly alone and her breath caught in her throat. She pushed the down threatening rise of panic. ~Control yourself, take deep breath. You are not dead and simple darkness is not going to kill you, but panic just might~ Kimiko took a deep breath and then another one. Finding herself calming, Kimiko turned on the padd and relief flooded her as she was bathed in a soft glowing light. There was an odd icon flashing slowly in the corner of the screen. She queried it. ~No connection found. Hum, that means no computer support and that would mean all systems would be offline. I think.~ The doctor pulled up the schematics for the base and identified her route from the party. ~you are here~ She tagged a close approximation of where she was at ~All medical facilities should have emergency backup generators and the closest would be… there, a satellite clinic in section 3B.~ She memorized the route and turned off the padd. ~No use borrowing trouble~ she thought as she put it away and set out towards the clinic. Feeling the smooth texture of the wall, Kimiko walked slowly and quietly towards her destination. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Promenade - TAC/SC Lieutenant(SG) Detron Trei - 01.15) Detron saw the crowd unaffected by his battle cry. They continued to advance toward him with intent to harm him and loot the area. Detron prepared to fight. "You have been warned now you feel pain." Detron thrust anyone who came at him. The bodies flew against store fronts like hurricane force winds threw them in all directions. Detron sustained this action for a while. When the mob subsided, Detron addressed a security officer near his position. "Come with me to Base Sickbay. They can use the help." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Jefferies Tube 4-GB - ATAC/SC Ensign(jg) Jessica Signos - Day 3 - 0116) They made good time working though the complex network of Jefferies tubes that made up the Starbase. Few could match there speed, agility, and size. After a time Jessica started getting that your being watched feeling. The feeling that someone was not only staring into her back, but her backside. It wasn't until then that she realized the absurdity of what she was doing and what was doing it in. This fact caused her face to flush, and her temperature to rise, and for once she was thankful for the darkness. ~I should of know better than to lead the way.~ The thought flashed into her mind. ~Well it can't be helped now.~ She told herself tiring to explain away her embarrassment. ~I wonder if he like s the view.~ The final thought just popped into her mind, she never expected it. She found herself getting more embarrassed again, and this was not the time for such distractions. She pushed her thoughts into the back of her mind and focused on the mission at hand. Even now a mob could be massing on the main reactors, they had to get there, and find out what happened to the station "Jessica, there's a power junction up ahead, and there's a high infrared signature coming from it. I want to take an engineering kit from that panel a few meters ahead and see if it might be a fire risk. There's no way in this chaos anyone would notice a jefferies tube fire until it's too late," Eian spoke up from behind her. She nodded in agreement. "Has you say," she told Eian has she passed the panel in question. She could feel the heat rising off it, has she passed and entered the junction beyond it. Thank goodness the junction doors are designed to open even if power is down. "If I can, I'll fix it or at least take it offline so it can't rupture. If I can't, I'll report it in. Either way, it can't hurt to take a look." "That's true enough" She told Eian, has she scanned up and down the connection vertical tube. JG Eian O'Neill - Day 3 - 0121*) "The way is clear ahead," Jessica said. "And were making good time. Last thing we need is another crisis." She turned back toward Eian. "Just be quick about OK." She smiled, and Eian smiled back. He headed over to the power junction, his engineering kit in hand. He had to climb over Jessica, which was awkward in its own right. He apologized, and then kept crawling. He stopped in front of the power junction and prepared to open it. Before he placed his hand on the panel, though, he scanned it for residual electrical charge. He wasn't going to be shocked, so he went ahead and opened it up. It happened so fast that he had no time to react. All he saw was what looked like the panel moving in his hands. A stream of tiny objects flew around him, and then tiny knives ripped his skin open with deep slashes. He cried out and fell away from the panel, and then felt two, three, five of the little objects impale him and climb inside his body. His heartbeat increased and his vision blurred, and then he heard a terrible screeching noise, and felt himself being pulled away. He had no idea what was going on, but there were no more crawling objects. His vision began to clear, and he saw Jessica kneeling over him, looking quite concerned. "What...what just happened?" he asked. As he asked the question, he felt an unfortunately familiar feeling. Before he was put on prescription stimulants, Eian could recall being a young boy and having what seemed like hundreds of thoughts zoom through his mind. None stayed long enough for him to think about them, and decisions were made on a whim, considering that all thoughts went too fast to concentrate on any one. He felt like that now. ~Yellow dress, beautiful, Guinness, Cork, power, junction, bugs?, World War II, A-10 bomber, Rosenante, Starfleet, Mum, Kelman, hot dogs, God, church, television...~ He couldn't focus. He was able to gain enough control to try some of his techniques. He counted his breathing. He prayed to God. He tried to listen to what Jessica was saying. He looked at his surroundings. He fidgeted with his hands. He focused on the pain from the tiny slashes. He prayed some more. And finally, he was able to comprehend what Jessica said. (reply Jessica) He figured he'd better tell her what was going on. She would think he was crazy if he didn't. "I...I think whatever those were...they interacted with my stimulant medication...I'm having trouble focusing. I might ask you to repeat something," he said, still sounding unsure of himself. It was very disconcerting to feel this way again, after so many years of being on the stimulant and having it work. Eian never remembered it being this bad. ~You can do it!~ he heard his coach's encouraging voice in his head. ~Set your sights on what you need, and shoot for a bull's eye. Don't settle for anything less,~ he remembered. He wouldn't turn back now--Jessica would need his help in this mission. He could do it, but he might need Jessica's help. "We need to keep talking, I need some distractions," he said, interrupting her mid-sentence. She hoped that this would help the captains of both the Bouddica and the Rosenante come up with a plan to resotre the base back to its previous operations. She grabbed Eian by the collar and pulled him from the mass of bug. Into the vertical tube that was adjacent to the one they were in. The creatures screeched in protest, but Jessica paid them no mind has she pulled Eian to safety, got him supported on the downward ladder, and closed the junction door. (reply Captain) "Mister Jackson. Take us to Yellow Alert. Signal all crew off ship to report their status as soon as possible. Mentally Tom crossed is fingers and tried to recall Rosenante personnel on the base. He had setup a plan to have teams of personnel search the starbase for ship's personnel and had messaged Ben Soma nad the FO to keep them advised. Jackson used his off duty OPS personnel duty to round up absent Rose personnel. is instructions were clear and precise "Bring back any ship's personnel not aiding sb 989. Tom's mind wandered to the station's commo problem . His wounds were deep and blood soaked threw her dress, ruining the garment. ~There went a few weeks credits.~ She thought has they made there way toward the main reactor. After what seemed a life time Jessica was able to lower Eian's body to the base landing of the tube they were in. ~Good,~ She thought. ~A main hub, there must be an emergency medical kit nearby.~ After a bit of searching she found the small case marked by a red cross. ~Good, it's still here.~ She opened the kit and went to work on Eian's wounds. There were many but none were to terribly deep and still none that where life threatening. It seemed Eian's arms and legs took the majority of the damage. Eian was bandaged, she wasn't a doctor or even a medic in that case but she did know a thing or two about how to treat a wound. Now she watched over him. "Stay with me?" She told Eian. "Do we continue...." She was gonna continue before she was interrupted, She glared at him ~That's not like him. It must be the creatures~ She thought. "We need to keep talking, I need some distractions," he said, interrupting her mid-sentence. "Not to worry we'll do that, do we continue?" She asked him sincerely "Were close." (reply Eian) (posted by Matthew Locke.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Clinic - CMO, Lt, jg Kimiko Ichijo - Day 3, 0135) Dr Ichijo looked around the clinic, it stood empty. ~Doesn’t seem that this one of the rallying points for medical~ Kimiko was able force the door open and found this was more of a ‘doc in a box’ office set up then a full medical facilities. ~At least they have medkits and emergency packs.~ Kimiko thought as she strapped on a utility harness. There was also a weapons locker here and yielded to her ID off her padd. ~Black dress and a white harness, interesting fashion statement~ She thought, as she slug the medical pack across her shoulder. ~I need to vacate before the light draws moths, there is no way, I can even began to treat the numbers that will come here, by myself.~ Kimiko turned off the lights, closed the door as well as she could, and moved away from the office. ~Back to the ship or to main medical, that is the question~ Kimiko considered ~if I go to medical, they won’t have the resources to send out parties; however if I go to the Rosenante, I will be able to send out a party or two, to assist~ With her mind made up, she plotted a course and headed towards the ship. (Reply any) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Sickbay - ACEO Ensign(jg) Henry Jacobs - 0136) Jacobs and the damage control team reached the sickbay doors and noticed a mob crowding the entrance. The damage control team cleared a path to the entrance and escorted Jacobs in. "Lieutenant Trei I have the damage control team standing guard outside. How can I assist sir?" (Reply Trei) When he entered the room he noticed Eva was pointing a phaser in his direction. In his reporting to Lieutenant Trei he nodded in her direction. He walked over to her and put his hand on her shoulder. "How are things here?" (Reply Eva, iyw) Jacobs continued to look into her eyes while he reported in to Ensign Gesar." Jacobs to Ensign Gesar. JG Eian O'Neill - Day 3 - 0139) "What...what just happened?" Eian asked Jessica, trying to get his bearings. "I'm not sure, exactly." She shook her head. "But I did capture an image of those creatures to send to the Boudicca and the Rose for further analysis. He nodded. "They're some kind of bugs," he said. A million thoughts raced through his head. ~Andraxan Honey Beetles, Terran African Wasps, the Hissing-Stinging Roach of Contoria VII, the Earth Ant, Ventubian Ropsa Spiders, Jogg-Noxpa Fire Locusts...~ every bug he had ever encountered. Jessica pointed down the jefferies tube. "That should lead us to the main reactor core." It took Eian a minute to even realize she had spoken. It was a strange feeling, to hear and see everything around him but not be able to focus on any one thing until it became urgent. He nodded at Jessica's statement, but she realized something was wrong. "Are you ok?" she asked. "I...I think whatever those were...they interacted with my stimulant medication...I'm having trouble focusing. I might ask you to repeat something," he said, still sounding unsure of himself. "Do we continue...." "We need to keep talking, I need some distractions," he said, interrupting her mid-sentence. Something in the back of his mind told him that was rude, but he couldn't focus on that very long. It wasn't important. She was talking again. "Not to worry we'll do that, do we continue?" She asked him sincerely "Were close." "Yeah, we should keep moving," Eian decided, knowing that a goal would help him focus. Reading facial expressions and body language was completely out of the question for him in this state. He had no way of knowing if Jessica was irritated, concerned, scared, angry...it was like being blind. But he needed to keep talking, so as he followed Jessica, he began what he thought would be a conversation, but what turned into a one-sided monologue. He didn't even notice when Jessica began to respond, and therefore cut her off at almost every sentence. "Your dress...I'm sorry. I'll give you the credits for a new one. It must've gotten torn, too, crawling through these Jefferies tubes." (reply Jessica) "--They remind me of the caves on Golgara III. It's a planet with mini-caves, or at least we consider them to be small. The inhabitants are all under a meter tall and evolved from burrowing mammals. Have you ever seen the evolutionary chart of a nocturnal burrowing mammal that turns into a sentient being?" (reply Jessica) "--It's quite interesting." Suddenly, he felt a surge of anxiety that he couldn't explain. "Do you think any of those bugs are up ahead? We didn't see their energy signatures before, how are we going to spot them?" (reply Jessica) "--I feel like we should warn everyone else. How long until we get to Engineering again? Oh, I have it here on my circlet." He chuckled nervously. "See, this is what happens when you can't focus on anything!" (reply Jessica) "--Kind of like the Monks on that old, old Holovid I saw...it was so funny! Especially for a history buff...it's called 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail', and it makes fun of medieval Europe on Earth. You're from Earth--you probably know where Europe is, of course. But anyway, it has these monks that repeatedly hit themselves to help themselves concentrate on God. Or at least I think that's what they're doing. So they're walking along, chanting, 'pie-iesu-domine, dona-eis-requiem,' and then CLUNK! they hit themselves on the head. 'Pie-iesu-domine' CLUNK, 'dona-eis-requiem, CLUNK." He laughed. (reply Jessica if she hasn't killed him by now) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Corridor - CMO, Lt, jg Kimiko Ichijo - Day 3, 0142) The doctor made her way towards the ship; the darkness was occasionally relieved slightly by the chemical luminescence panels, marking escape pods. She had not run into anyone yet and was not sure if it was a good or bad thing. The stories that her uncle told her about the violence that was fostered by loss of basic services, came back to haunt her with a vengeance and she expected someone to jump out at her at any time. Kimiko could hear the sounds of a scuffle ahead around the corner and some words that she identified as Klingon. ~If I was a smart girl, I would turn around and find another way to the ship~ Kimiko thought to herself as she crept to the bend. ~But why start being smart now~ She looked upon two large forms struggling in the dim glow of markers. As Kimiko watched one of the figures slammed against the bulkhead, she could see enough to recognize his features as Klingon, but the other combatant was still hidden in the darkness. The Klingon wiped his mouth and yelled. “Ha'DIbaH, I will feed you your liver. You will be slow in dying” Kimiko decided that she was not going this way. If they wanted to pound themselves unconscious, far be it for her to interrupt. The next words froze her. “Your words, like your blows, are weak.” came the scathing reply “Perhaps you should return to the crèche and see if your words and blows are effective there” ~I don’t think that fisticuffs will remove those words~ Kimiko thought to herself. As if to agree with her, the ringing sound of a blade being freed from a scabbard filled the darkened space. ~nope, guess not.~ As a Klingon battle cry reverberated off the bulkhead. Kimiko sighed and cursed her luck, as much as she wanted to leave; there was no way that she wanted someone’s death on her conscious. She unslung her kit and lowered it to ground as well as her purse after removing her badge. She pinned her communicator to her harness and removed the torch and phaser. Spinning the torch up to the highest setting, Kimiko stepped around the corner saw two Klingons squaring off, both with blades out, gaping and blinking at her. ~Well, now might be the time to say something, you surely don’t think that the light will hold them off for long.~ Kimiko thought as she swallowed. Grasping for something, she hoped that the two were not familiar with human entertainment. “I’m not in security and feel no need to get in the middle of a knife fight” Kimiko stated a nonchalantly as possible. “You have two choices, you can drop your blades or I can let you fight it out” The distinctive warbling warning tone of a phaser turned up to level 10 cut through the corridor. “and shoot the winner.” The two combatants stared at each other and for a moment Kimiko thought that they would take her up on her offer. “This is not over” the younger Klingon stated, glaring at the older Klingon, sheathing his blade. “For the moment, it is” Kimiko replied cutting off any other retorts. ~Well now I have them, what to do with them~ Kimiko thought. The chances of getting to the ship alive with two furious klingons in tow, were not odds that she wished to dwell upon. ~But if I leave them here, they will just go back to stabbing each other.~ She looked from both Klingons to the lit panels of an escape pods and smiled. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Main Sickbay, CMO, Doctor Gena Harvey, Day 3, 0145) ~Finally!~ Gena thought as the lights to the medical facility flickered on, followed a moment later by the critical medical equipment. Since the suddenly loss of power everything had been a dark haze of activity. The darkness had been punctuated only by the hand torches used by the medical teams as they tried to treat the injured. They had even been forced to pry open, and wedge them that way, the doors leading into the bays. Sterilization fields were down and it was rapidly becoming a logistics nightmare. For her part, she had been trying to coordinate triage to the best of her ability. A sizeable number of her staff had been on leave for the night, and those that remained on duty had been overwhelmed by the sudden influx of casualties and the mechanical problems that they had faced. More than once Gena had declared, "Damn it! I'm a doctor not an Engineer!" and gone back to treating the injured. She had been unable to establish communications with the command center or anyone else at present, and so for the moment she was doing her best to just stay afloat as the casualties flooded in like a rising river of human suffering. "Terry!" She shouted across the room, "Find me an open bed and prep this man for imaging as soon as possible." The nurse, one of the few keeping a clear head in the chaos responded with a quick, "I'm on it!" "Anyone know if those Federation Starships are still in Dock?" She asked in general. She received a range of replies ranging from yes to who knows. Her attention was captured, however, by a ruckus near the door. She turned to see a sizable number of people trying to push their way into the bay. Ensign Hardesty, one of the few security Officers she could find was managing to hold them at bay. It looked as if a riot was about to start. Gena crossed the room quickly and with confidence. She felt that any sort of weakness on her part may well encourage the spark of panic that would leave her sickbay in tatters, should it combust. "What's going on here?" She asked. Hardesty never took his eyes from the crowd but answered just the same. "Ma'am these people are trying to gain entrance to the bay. They aren't wounded." he replied. Gena took one look at the crowd and could see that Hardesty was correct in his assessment. These people were simply trying to seek out a place of relative safety, maybe in the hopes that the life support in the lit areas had been restored. "People!" She said loudly addressing the group. "We have no more life support than anyone else. "You are hereby ordered to clear this area and make way for the injured. Failure to comply will result in the use of force." As if on cue, Hardesty stepped back away from the crowd and drew his phaser. He dialed it to wide beam heavy stun and pointed it at the crowd. They visibly shrunk back. "Report to your quarters. Station Engineering is doing everything in their power to get things back to normal. I am confident that they will have everything fixed as quickly as possible." ~Liar Liar, pants on fire!~ she thought to herself. Miraculously it worked. The crowd began to disperse, but Gena realized it would only be a matter of time before they reassembled with more determination. She also realized that if she didn't have more security by then, that any hopes of aiding these people would be impossible. Once they had dispersed enough, Gena addressed Hardesty. "Unlock the weapons locker and distribute phasers. Then commandeer any starfleet personnel that are able to support you. I need a security force ready to help out in case a riot breaks out. The Ensign looked at him, his blue eyes full of worry. "Yes ma'am." He replied and then went off to handle his assigned duties, no doubt happy to be away from the doors. ~God, please send some help soon.~ Gena thought as she went back to work. (reply Any) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Promenade - aFO - Josh Caskie - Day 3 - 0148) Josh had been more than happy to agree with Mike that they should leave however doing so proved more of a problem than they had first thought. For the first ten minutes the had to fight a simple wave of people wanting to celebrate New Year with someone else and Josh began to wish that she had worn heels. For once her height didn't help and Josh began to wish, in the mad swarm to leave the Cork that she had worn her highest ones since they could at least be used as a weapon. Eventually they broke through the crowd and finally arm in arm they began the long walk down toward the Boudicca. Half way down everything stopped working. Josh, now wise in the ways of how a ship or a station worked realised that this was serious. Turning to Mike she gestured up the way they had come. "I think we might have a problem here, this does not look good. I need to head to the main medical facility. I need for you to make sure I get there." Josh allowed Mike to lead the way until they reached the medical bay and turning to him she smiled. "Thank you. I know you are desperate to find your team, go find them set up whatever security you think is needed, I trust your judgement. but we are going to be overwhelmed in medical shortly and we will need some security. The immediate wave is probably over but I predict that as soon as everyone who went back to their quarters realises that they can't access them they are going to end up right back here again. Leaving Mike to go do his own stuff Josh walked into the medical bay to hear a huge cacophony of voices, all desperate to have their own problems fixed Raising her own she simply shouted over all of them. "Everyone shut the heck up. I am Cmdr Josh Caskie FO and CMO from the Boudicca. I need you senior medical officer here now, front and centre the rest of you get on with what you were doing. Who the hell is in charge of security here. Front and centre now too." (Reply Station Medical and who ever wants to front Security.) (posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Corridor - CMO, Lt, jg Kimiko Ichijo - Day 3, 0215) The doctor walked down the corridor, smiling and congratulating herself. ~I’m not sure if that will fall under approved improvisation, but it worked and no one is stabbing anyone~ Kimiko good mood disappeared when she noticed a crowd gathered around the passenger umbilical. The swell of beings were resting uncomfortably, but the very well armed squad of security officers stationed at the entrance explained the crowd’s reticence in storm the ship. The doctor squirmed between the huddled bodies and emerged from the front, feeling a bit sorry for the use of elbows and heel stomps. ~I guess it’s a good thing that I am short, that one guy would have taken my head off, if he saw me~ She darted for the entrance before the crowd noticed her. “ChiefMedicalOfficerKimikoIchijo” She stated in a rush as the barrels of phaser rose. “I am a member of the crew” She looked back at the enraged and desperate faces behind her “Needing on now.” The doctor was urshered behind the group of security. Heading up the walkway, she winced as she heard the sound of a phaser blast behind her. She redoubled her speed up the walkway and tapped her communicator “Dr Ichijo to the Captain.” (Reply Salid) “I’m aboard and it is my intention to gather several medical relief parties to assist the starbase, unless circumstances prevent it.” (Reply Salid, any) Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- End Compile ---------------------------------------------------------------------
