As they conversed T'Larah chose a more personal subject to speak with the former CMO and then FO of the Rose. "Commander Caskie hopefully your family is well?" T'Larah started with reference to the reason she had left the Rose in the first place. Hopefully she wasn't being too forward. Josh looked across a T'Larah and smiled. "Yes indeed Commander all of my family are indeed very well, thank you for asking, including my son which is who I believe to be the main point of your enquiry. Suffice to say that he is back home and well. I would prefer not to discuss the matter further if you do not mind." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Captain's Mess - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - 1209*) T'Larah tasted her first course before she answered Josh's question. "Thank you. My health is optimal at this time. Have you heard about Chance?" Josh immediately shook her head. "No, To be honest I have been out of the loop right up until I rejoined the Fleet a few months ago." "He was injured in the fight with the Irlixians, when the Tactical console exploded. He was evacuated after the battle, and we know that he is on Starbase Geneva, and while he is still in a comatose state, he is stable and breathing on his own." Josh sighed. She had always had what could be called a soft spot for Chance. It wasn't anything romantic, more that the guy was far more of a privateer than a Starfleet Officer and that had always appealed to sailor in Josh. She shook her head for a moment, almost to herself and then began speaking to T'Larah again. "I'm sorry to hear that. Had I known I would have tried to stop by Geneva on my way out to the Boudicca." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Captain's Mess - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - 1223) Almost immediately she realised that both of the Captains had stopped discussing technical data and had began discussing Josh herself and her attention immediately switched to them. Durand looked across the table at Salid and smiled. “Commander Caskie has a commitment at 0800 tomorrow. Aside from that, however, she is completely free to enjoy her time here at the station. I’d never presume to speak for her, Captain… but I strongly suspect that she hardly considers spending time in your company – or that of any of her friends here – being monopolized. Clearly, her former associates are people of very good character.” Ahmed found himself returning Captain Durand's smile. "Well Captain, I've been told I'm a bit of a pirate from time-to-time. But as to the rest of the ship's compliment, I need only say that the commander is a very good judge of character." He gave his prior First Officer a proper smile and then an almost private wink, which admittedly was well outside his normal paradigm. "Wouldn't you agree Commander?" Josh smiled quietly this time as Salid smiled at her and winked slightly. "Agree to what sir that you're a pirate. Well to be honest I think I'd like to take the 5th on that one given that whatever I answer I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. However, I will agree that I am an excellent judge of character." After the meal finished Captain Durand presented Captain Salid with the box that he had brought aboard and finally, after the meal broke up Josh was free to go wander around the Rose again since both the Captains were off on their 'Engineers' tour. (Reply, Sullivan, Durand Salid, any) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 – The County Cork – ATT LCDR Lorimar – 1418) Lorimar nodded firmly at Rosenbauer’s comment. “Ah can verify that right enough lad. When he was mah boss he rarely took credit for anything… seemed he preferred tae gie credit everywhere else.” (Reply Rosenbauer iyw) Lorimar thought about Matt for a moment, wondering how he was getting along with his health issues. As his mind followed that path, he felt a flash of anger well up at how he had departed the ship without so much as a goodbye. Bad enough the way Bob felt about it… but his dear wife Arania… she had been crushed by it. Lorimar crushed that well of emotion down, forcing it back into the darker corners of his mind. For now. ~Ah dearly hope ah never hurt anyone that way…~ He downed the rest of his Scotch in a single pull, and tapped his finger on the rim of the glass as he set it down on the bar, catching the bartender’s eye for a refill. (Reply Any) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - The County Cork – Combat Nurse – E’Mpak- Day 1 - 2024) "But enough maudling conversation. I'm here to enjoy myself so are we going for twenty strips of gold pressed latinum or are you chicken?" She grinned at Caskie. “Time to put you latinum where your mouth is.” She scooped up her glass again and emptied it. "Oh by the way Kitty wanted me to send her regards if I ran into you again." E’Mpak paused for a moment as she thought about Kittly and smiled. “Thank you. When you see her again tell her I owe her thanks and what is she doing at the moment.” "She is in the middle up upgrading all her qualifications and lecturing at Starfeet Medical at present. “That is grate. I am sure that she has a lot of experience that the student at Starfleet medical could learn.” "To be honest you must have made an impression on her since the last lecture I sat in on was, and I quote, "The need for some nurses and medical technician to be trained as MedEvac personnel as standard using the Klingon model of Combat Nurses and why it should be used as a standard form in the fleet." E’Mpak paused for a moment to make sure that she had not drunk to much whisky as she thought about what Caskie said. “You do realise that Klingon medicine is further behind Starfleet. Combat Nurses were developed because it took to long for our warriors to get to a proper medical facility. There was an immediate need to patient stabilisation before they were moved and also most warriors hate the idea of having to get medical help.” She paused “Star fleet has field medics who do a roughly similar job. But in saying that it would be interesting to see what she is wanting to do.” (Reply Caskie) (Reply Caskie, any) (Posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 2- 2047) Kraal's senses went to red Alert as he proceeded into the Ready Room of the CO of the Rosenante. Salid's demeanour exuded almost pure hate towards Kraal. This sense of doom didn't help the Andorian's sense of helplessness. Kraal stood at attention until the Captain told him to sit.Silence ensued. Kraal coughed nervously and began. Sir, I have read the reports and am glad to see SF is sending a team to investigate us." he said nervously. Ahmed fixed both eyes firmly on the junior officer. "Are you now?" he said questioningly, "Then why exactly is it you wanted to see me?" "As you suspect, sir, I failed in my duty as FO of this Starbase. I would like to tender my resignation. I am not worthy to wear this uniform." The Andorian said, his voice dropping into a low whisper. The captain fixed a stern gaze upon Kraal. Salid began to rip Kraal apart bit by bit. Kraal literally turned a very pale blue indicating he was scared and mad. "I would like nothing better than to see that happen, Lieutenant. I do not believe that you could have been any more correct when you stated that you were unworthy of the uniform. You are a disgrace to the service and to all the individuals who dedicate their lives to the ideals that the uniform and Starfleet as a whole represents." "As first Officer, it was your one solemn duty to uphold the laws and honor of the Federation. You were given a sacred trust which you chose to ignore. You can not possibly tell me that you had no clue that there was corruption among this stations senior staff. You only had to report it, and you couldn't even bring yourself to do that." Kraal started to speak but the senior officer waved his hand in disgust indicting Kraal should shit up and take his medicine. "But I can not accept your resignation, no matter how much I'd like to. You are not an officer under my command, and as I am not a member of the admiralty it is beyond my purview to release you from your obligations, like the coward that you are." Ahmed's eyes flashed the junior officer a warning to remain silent. "If I were you lieutenant, I'd be putting my affairs in order. And I'd damned well better do my best to follow every regulation and rule to the absolute letter of the law between now and the time that the investigation team arrives. I suggest that you maintain discipline on this station, among your crew and that you bring your house into line." "If you fail to do so, a simple resignation of your commission is going to be the least of your problems. I will have no compunction with calling for a general court-martial on the charges of behavior unbecoming, dereliction of character, and failure to discharge your assigned duties." Salid leveled a solid glance at Kraal. "So do I need to repeat myself Lieutenant, or do we have an understanding?" 'We understand one another Captain Salid" Kraal , now mad, said through gritted teeth. Salid further chewed out the Andorian by telling him""Then I suggest that you stop whining about your sacrificed Honor and go put things right. You are dismissed Lieutenant." Ahmed tapped his comm badge. "Salid to Soma. Mister Kraal and I are finished with our conversation. Please see to it he is escorted from my ship." Kraal rose and exited the Ready Room and followed Lt Soma away. To be honest she hadn't felt exactly human for the first half hour. ~That's what you get when you drink with a Klingon lass.~ she chided herself. On awakening she had sat herself down with a large mug of sweet black coffee and began to piece together the night before. She could remember going to the County Cork and seeing E'Mpak there. She could remember, very carefully walking back to the Boudicca, but no, try as she might, the rest was a blank. She wasn't even sure if she owed E'Mpak 20 bars of gold pressed latinum or if it was the other way around. Sighing she pinched the bridge of her nose and held it for a moment. ~Oh well, no doubt I'll find out sometime tonight.~ she thought. Just as she was thinking of heading for the shower Bruiser began to weave around her legs and cry, a sure sign that he had decided that he had waited far too long for his morning meal. Getting up and crossing to the replicator Josh programmed it to deliver a bowl of tuna and another one of meat. Lulu was far to polite to hint that she was hungry but Bruiser made up for both of them in those stakes. Putting the tuna down in front of Bruiser and the meat in front of Luadas Josh crossed to the drawer where she kept her medical kit and opening it took out a detox pill and analgesic hypo Swallowing the pill and pressing the hypo to her shoulder Josh crossed to the replicator, requested a glass of chilled orange juice, a cup of Lapsang Suchong tea and a round of hot buttered toast to be delivered in fifteen minutes and then headed for the shower. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie Day 2 - 07.56) Finally showered, dressed and ready to face the day Josh stood outside Captain Durand's ready room. She knew that given what was taking place very soon it was unlikely that the Captain would have anyone else in the room with him apart from Lt Trei, however the door was closed and Josh was polite enough to not simply barge into the room so, pressing the chime she announced herself and waiting to be admitted. (Reply Durand) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - CO Captain Durand - 0757) Trei had entered the ready room -- again -- without a by-your-leave from the Captain. As it was, Durand was unsurprised to have Trei offer no greeting, merely take a seat and then make some notes on his PADD after a curt nod to indicate (the CO presumed) his readiness. ~Does he understand the significance of the proceeding that is about to happen here? Clearly, he hasn’t grasped the concept of formality in the presence of the Commanding Officer as yet...~ For his part, the Captain reviewed notes that he had already made on his own PADD, and waited for the aFO to arrive. The wait was a short one, as Trei had barely settled in when the door chime sounded. “Enter, Commander.” He spared Trei the pointed look he wanted to give him. There were much more serious matters to attend than door chimes. “Please have a seat, Commander Caskie. I believe Lieutenant Trei is ready to begin. Is that correct Lieutenant?” (Reply Trei, Caskie) He looked briefly from one of the seated officers to the other, betraying none of the dismay that he felt. He reminded himself that if this went as he expected, he was actually... or at the very least, *potentially* saving the young officer’s career in Starfleet. ~That *is* what this is all about. Not just this proceeding, but the whole thing... the fleet, all of it. Preservation. Exploration. Peace through strength and knowledge. Starfleet is all of those, and so very much more.~ He tabbed a control on the desktop, and spoke clearly and without hesitation. “Commander Caskie, Lieutenant Trei, this meeting is being recorded. Let me make it clear, however, that this is strictly an administrative proceeding. This session is to explore the findings of the investigation conducted into the circumstances of the death and injury of crew members of the USS Boudicca during the rescue operation undertaken on the Jahdara III mining colony, on and about stardate 2413.10.16. Present are Commander Caskie, acting First Officer, and Lieutenant Detron Trei, TAC/SC of this vessel. The purpose of this meeting, as stated, is to determine the need for, and apply a measure or measures of administrative discipline, informally known as 'Captain’s Mast’. Let the record show that Mast is now underway.” He reviewed his notes once again, then went on. “Commander Caskie investigated the events in question at length, upon my direction to do so. She has presented her findings in the form of an official report which I have reviewed at length. Upon the Commander’s recommendation, the following issues will be heard at this proceeding.” He looked at Caskie. “First, as a result of his direct action, an explosion was caused by Lieutenant Trei. Said explosion was the proximate cause of the death and injuries sustained during the operation. Second. Though not under direct command, Lieutenant Trei acted outside his field of expertise, disregarding the skills and qualifications of the engineering officer who was directing the shutdown operation. Third. Lieutenant Trei’s actions subsequent to the explosion were not becoming of an officer in his position. Furthermore, his poor judgement and impulsive actions increased the hazards of the situation, and did nothing to further the rescue effort, nor mitigate the danger for the away team.” He gave Caskie another long look. “Commander, I’d like you to further explain your findings, and then Lieutenant Trei may respond in kind.” (Reply Caskie, Trei, Room for much more) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering - aCEO Ensign Gesar - 0800) Anton was sipping his coffee trying to shake off the night before. He got out of Braak's without security noticing him and seeing as how one close call was enough for one day he had decided to head back to his quarters. He had finally caught up with all the paperwork he had to do. The level 1 diagnostic they ran the day before went without any issues, which Anton expected considering who was in charge prior. Guess all that's left now is the non-standard in charge guy work. "Gesar to Ensign Jacobs. Would you please join me at the QV in about 15 minutes." (Reply Jacobs) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - QV - aCEO Ensign Gesar - 0815) Anton was sipping on his second cup of coffee, noting that the coffee here at the QV tasted much better than the replicator stuff. He thumbed though a PADD with some of the last bit of data he was reviewing as he waited for the ACEO. (Reply Jacobs) (Posted by Oleg Kislyuk) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Promenade, SO T'Vyr, Mosh & Eva Saint Jean, Day 2 2300) The atmosphere at Braak's Bar was one of celebration. The entire promenade level of the Starbase had been carpeted by the amassed crowds of people drawn to the promise of a massive celebration. In some places the traffic was so thick that it was almost impossible to make your way through the sea of individuals. At the center of the promenade, there was a mock-up of a lit globe, standing at the apex of a long cylinder. While not the best representation that Mosh had ever seen, he at least recognized it as the cultural icon of the Manhattan Ball drop, that originated on the North American continent of Earth. He was led to understand that the massive viewing screens that had been set up across the station would afford everyone the opportunity to watch the dropping of the light globe from just about every vantage point on the promenade. The few bars that were open along the Promenade were swamped with customers, and the more standardized shops were either selling speciality or novelty goods or they were closed to keep out the press of people that were looking for a place to stand. The three Starfleet officers were pushing their way through the churning tide of people, trying hard to make their way to one of the three sponsors of the main celebration. Whether it would be Braak's Bar, RJs or The County Cork, they were yet uncertain. At this stage they were even unclear whether they could even get close. T'Vyr led the way, using his superior Vulcan Strength and unsmiling attitude to clear the way of potential barriers along the way. Party goers and spectators alike gave way for him. Eva thought that perhaps it was the grim look of disgust and determination that had created the desire to let him through without challenge. Whatever it was, Eva and Mosh were more than happy to see that it was happening. They trailed behind the Vulcan like two small ships followed an icebreaker along the glacial waterways of some ice planets. As long as they stayed in his wake, they had a fairly easy go of it. T'Vyr, for his part was dressed in his usual attire, which is to say his Starfleet uniform. The gold colors were almost swallowed up in the sea of brightly colored people. The majority deciding to wear extravagantly colored attire that looked more at home in a circus than a promenade celebration. Eva swore that she saw at least a half-dozen being dressed up in jester's outfits, or something so similar she thought of a jester anyway. Then there were the flamboyant hats, jackets and brightly colored clothes that seemed as if someone had robbed a Mardi Gras celebration and shipped all the stolen loot to this distant starbase. The noise was a constant sea of ebb and flow, sometimes distinguishable, but usually not. In fact it was so loud that the team of three didn't even bother to try to talk to each other at all. Instead they relied on their field signals and personal knowledge of their companions to provide all the communication they would need. Eva had traded in her uniform for a long navy blue dress with gold embroidery. The high chinese collar showed off her high cheek bones and really brought out the silver in her cybernetic eyes. Her duty shoes had been transformed into pumps, which now considering their circumstances, had become a bit of a liability., as had the thigh high spilt that ran along the right side of her leg. Her outfit was one of the more restrained on the promenade, as Mosh's attire confirmed. The Bolian had gone overboard. He had selected a red, green and yellow checkered shirt and a pair of deep crimson pants. He wore at least thirty trinket necklaces around his neck. There were maybe a dozen pin-on buttons stuck to his shirt, some proclaimed, 'I Love NY' or '2414' in big garish fonts. He wore a baseball style cap that had both father time and baby new year on it, poised as professional boxers getting ready to throw down in the mother of all fights. He wore a pair of non-correcting eyeglasses, shaped like stars. The lenses were red, which when you considered that Bolians were blue skinned, made the entire scene almost too good to be true. T'Vyr had managed to reach the cordon barricade set up around the three exclusive businesses sponsoring the official party to usher in the new year. They had set up a few mobile security fields, probably on loan from the Starbase's security department. They had cordoned of an area about ten thousand square feet, that ran adjacent around the buildings. Already there were quite a few people milling about inside. Drinks were being served and people seemed to be gathering in either one of the three hosting businesses or in the secured area beyond. A group of employees, Nausicaans, Orions, and everything in between, were periodically opening the barrier allowing people in as they collected the entry fee of 100 credits per person. The crowd had thinned considerably as they neared the barrier making it much easier to reach it within the last 100-feet than it had been for the rest of the arduous journey here. They took their place in line behind a pair of Klingons who already looked as if they had been consuming way too much blood-wine. The line edged forward fairly quickly and the three had reached the barricade and paid for their entry without problem. The area inside was quieter, which Eva considered to be a blessing. Already the constant noise and press of bodies was conspiring to give her a terrible headache. The barrier acted as a form of acoustic dampener as well as a physical barricade. And so there were bursts of sound every time the field was opened to allow in another patron. The proprietors had taken the time to hire live musicians to play, and each of the three places offered a different musical selection to draw in the crowds. There were small buffet tables set out in the middle of the area, for guests to try a little something from the three places, and those tables were filled with all sorts of foods. A legalized gambling hall had been set up in Braak's Bar, offering the temptation of losing your money to a Ferengi business man while having fun. At the County Cork, there were Irish Ballads and some jigs taking place. RJs was a bit more subdued, offering fine dining and premium drinks for those people who wanted to be at the party, but didn't want to get too crazy. All in all it promised to be an excellent party, especially if rumors about last years celebration were any judge of things to come. (reply All) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Promenade, 2O/COPS and Dahlia Jackson , Day 2 2301) Dahlia Jackson was adapting to the unusual customs Tom was a part of. She had never had much 'fun' working for his step-dad Pez. Pez didn't abuse her but neither was she treated kike a member of the family. That was in stark contrast to Tom his step-son. Tom had a fleet wide reputation as a quiet, steady type. Dahlia had loved Thomas Jackson since they had been kids together on Feringinar. Tom was explaining the tradition of celebrating the passing of the old year and the arrival of anew one. People got together and celebrated. Some from the woes and troubles of the past year and some when just for the fun of it. Tom had explained that he and she should wear a costume. Tom had chosen some obscure old earth character called Elvis Presley. She knew he was some type of entertainer but not much else. "Let's visit Braack's Bar - he owes Pez a few favors " Tom said to his new wife. (reply: Dahlia Jackson) They entered the gaudily lit bar. Tom swore he had never seen so many people - most well on their way to a stupor! They looked around and saw a few starfleet types in uniform and noticed over in the corner of Braack's. At the County Cork, there were Irish Ballads and some jigs taking place. A smallish Ferengi scuttled over and asked "What do you want to drink Mr Jackson?" Tom was surprised that he was know but suspected he was known because of Pez. T.J. thought for a moment before answering. "I'd like a Singapore Sling. What would you like Dahlia?" he asked. (reply: Dahlia) They watched the crowds and listened to the music being playted. (reply: none) (posted by Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - County Cork - ACEO Lt. JG Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 2302) When Eian entered the County Cork, he felt an intense feeling of happiness and belonging. The Irish jigs being performed reminded him of being in Ireland as a small child, and their visits back since then. And the crowded, loud, and exciting atmosphere was exactly where he felt most stimulated, most at home. His ADHD was automatically taken care of by the fact that he couldn't walk three steps without bumping into someone, and could easily pick out four or five conversations if he trained his ear to listen. So his mind was free to think critically. His tactical training had him thinking about security and safety, his engineering training had him thinking about how many people were in this area and what their movements would likely be, and the part of his mind on 'shore leave' was set on getting a drink and finding a nice girl to talk to. He made his way to the bar and ordered a Guinness, his favorite drink. For fun, he had put on his United States Army Air Corp uniform from Earth's World War II. It was a toss-up between that and the Union Civil War uniform he had in his closet. He had already ruled out other uniforms for various reasons and come down to those two. Dressing up was not only a way to have fun, but also a way to start conversations with those he met. He was a history buff, and it was likely that a girl interested in him would at least pretend to be interested in his history. He did a double-take when he received his Guinness and turned to make his way back into the crowd. There at the bar was...a child? No, taking a closer look, it was clear she was just a very small woman. ~And I thought I was the shortest humanoid on the station,~ he thought humorously to himself. He made his way over to her. "Hey, great party, huh?" (reply Signos) "I said great party, huh?!" Eian shouted a little louder. (reply Signos) He chuckled. "It's normal for this kind of place. Have you ever been in an Irish pub before?" (reply Signos) "I was born in Ireland. We moved when I was six, but my family went back regularly. I'm Eian O'Neill," he said, shifting his drink to his other hand so he could shake hers. (reply Signos) "It's nice to meet you. So are you stationed on a ship, or are you a civvie...?" She understood Ferengi well enough, after all she had lived in their presence most of her life. The clientele in this particular establishment was of a class that she considered even lower than usual. The complete lack of Starfleet Officers, except for her husband, of course, made her uncomfortable, especially since Pez had not left any of his body guarding staff behind when he had left the station. ~Why would he anyway?~ Dahlia asked herself. Dahlia was a bit distracted, but Tom seemed to sense the rising threat and voiced her own concern. "I think we might want to move out of here. I think this is a situation ready to go bad quickly." Dahlia nodded her agreement and followed her husband across the street to the County Cork which seemed to be filled with a better class of people including a number of Starfleet Officers. She noticed that among the festivities, there were Irish ballads being performed and Dahlia had never really seen the likes of that sort of performance before. "Tom, can we sit over by the stage?" she asked, pointing towards a table near a cluster of patrons and officers. He was standing on an upper level above the main promenade; basically not much more than a glorified catwalk, that was accessible only to Starfleet personnel. It kept him out of the bustle of the crowds, and enabled him to observe the activity below. When Ben had learned he was taking duty shifts, his friend had taken advantage of the opportunity to tease him about it. Something about, all work and no play. Sanok didn't mind, as he had taken all the rest he needed. Besides, it was illogical to spend hours filling oneself with foods and liquids that would cause pain, vomiting, dizziness, and general discomfort, the next morning. One of the things Ben mentioned to Sanok was to ask why he wouldn't open up more and get to know some of the other officers from the Boudicca. The two crews may never be together again once they left 989, so getting to know others in Starfleet service was something good. Sanok had to admit to himself that it was a good thing. Meeting people and hearing their stories and experiences could be enriching. After all, it was about helping and serving others. On the other hand, Vulcans typically weren't social creatures. Then again, Sanok wasn't a typical Vulcan. He had lived with his emotions most of his life. So what was it that kept him from being more social? Perhaps this was a matter he should seek to resolve. Tomorrow. Maybe. Pushing away the thoughts about himself, Sanok focused his attention on the activity below. It did not surprise him that the promenade was filled with people out for an evening of partying. What he did not expect, was the volume of the crowd. The place was packed, and moving through the throng was like Earth salmon trying to swim upstream. He hadn't realized there were so many living and working on the base. Ah, well. The night was young, and there was still plenty that would happen. He would be sure to at least drop in on Rupert and Jack. Other than that, he hoped the party would pass without any serious incidents. (reply any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Promenade - ACEO Ensign(jg) Henry Jacobs - 2307) Jacobs had just walked into The County Cork, a bar he found on a map stored on his padd. He needed a different atmosphere since he didn't meet anyone the night before at the other bar. Of course the place was packed with all different races of people as far as the eye could see, he was just glad that he had more of a chance of talking to someone since he was pretty new to being assigned on a ship. This was his chance to at least meet a few people and network for his future in starfleet. ~I'll just sit here by the door and watch the folks roll in, I'll either talk to someone from the Boudicca or from the other ship in the fleet I heard was docked here. The Rosenante I think it is.... Either way its almost a new year so I plan to enjoy the night~ Jacobs turned away from the bar entrance and looked up at the bartender waiting to take his drink request. " Can you make a decent Incredible Hulk? Its an Earth drink. That really gets the job done!" Jacobs went on about how the drink was made but before he could finish the bartender slid the drink down to him and smiled. Jacobs took a drink and coughed. ~Better pace myself~ He turned back to the bar entrance and awaited for someone to talk to. (Reply Boudicca crew, Rosenante crew, any) (Posted by Darryl) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB 989, Promenade, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma, 2308) Ben had teased Sanok a little about not mingling with the crew of the Boudicca, but couldn't really press the matter considering he hadn't do so either. Sanok had volunteered for a few duty shifts, Ben opted for a little solitude. Considering the big party he decided it was time to get into the mix a little, time to meet some of his fellow officers and engage in camaraderie building exercises. He looked up and saw his friend on the upper catwalk and gave him a mock salute, another little dig that they shared from time to time. He then proceeded to enter the establishment housing the New Years Eve party, he might have felt more like celebrating if Marah were here with him but so far he hadn't had a lot of luck tracking her down. The idea of a party to celebrate the end of the year had dated back many centuries and showed no signs of dying off in the future. It was a time to reflect on what one had accomplished in the previous year, Ben had been fortunate for the most part. There were a few incidents he would rather have missed out on but over all it could have been a lot worse. He looked forward to the future and wondered what was in store for him, what challenges would he face, what wonders would he witness, would they explore the unknown, would he find Marah. Time would tell all. Stopping for a moment to look at his appearance in a reflective panel he straightened out his dress shirt and noticed a wrinkle in his dress pants, tucked a stray lock of hair behind his ear and made a mental not to see the ships barber once he returned to the Rose. He wasn't comfortable in such clothes but he didn't think robes would be acceptable attire for a New Years Eve party. Almost satisfied with his appearance he entered the party shop and made his was through the crowd in search of a drink. Steven Matrix, 2309) Matrix hadn't spend a lot of time mingling with the crew of the Boudicca yet, but had toured the vessel virtually weeks prior to learning they would be working together. Matrix hoped he would be invited for some official function aboard the Boudicca. She was slightly smaller than the Rosenante, but legendary in her voyages and her crew was well respected among the fleet. Matrix realized he was in a position to extend a visit. The hour was late, but why not? "Computer, record a message for delivery to the CEO of the USS Boudicca, NCC 49901." said Matrix. [Acknowledged] "Mr. Gesar, Chief Engineering Officer, Lt. Steven Matrix of the USS Rosenante. I would like to invite you and your immediate crew for an informal review and inspection of the USS Rosenante's engineering systems and crew. This would give our respective departments time to get acquainted with one another, and for you and your team to see the Rosenante's spiral drive system and fiend enhancements." Matrix paused. "Please reply in kind at your earliest convenience. Lt. Steven Matrix, CEO. USS Rosenante. Computer end message, save and deliver." said Matrix. [Acknowledged... delivery confirmed via Star Fleet Message Command Link, this hour and time. Lt. Gesar has 43 messages in his queue. Would you like this message marked urgent?] asked the computer. Matrix thought briefly, "Yes, please mark the message urgent." [Acknowledged. Lt. Gesar has 5 urgent messages including this one in his message queue.] replied the computer. ~Great.~ thought Matrix. Lively music poured on him as he entered the bar. There was a table set up with various foods. Detron saw many people dressed in outlandish outfits. Detron did not wear that kind of outfit just his duty uniform. Detron always partied on New Years Eve on Betazed. Betazed had a great celebration every year at this time. Detron went to the bar thought about ordering a Guinness again but was ready to party so he ordered an Earth drink called a Hurricane. It packed quite a punch since it was 95 percent alcohol. Even though he could drink most everyone in the bar under the table, Detron inteded to take it slow. The anticipation of the new year coming to pass was building in the bar and of the three locations celebrating. (Reply any at County Cork) (Posted by Edward) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Promenade - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 2 - 2311) Josh simply began beating a path through the crowd back to the County Cork. She looked at some of the more outlandish costumes around her and shook her head. This was Hogmanay not Halloween, when had everyone decided that they had to dress like Dame Edna Everage on a bad night. She herself was dressed in a long skirt of Ancient Maxwell tartan which with her maiden name of Herries she was entitled to wear, and plain white shirt and a sash of Ancient Maxwell draped over her right shoulder diagonally and pinned at her hip with a large garnet and silver brooch that had belonged to her mother. The muted red and green of the tartan set off her red hair which this time she had paid attention to for once, tying it up high on her head with a matching tartan ribbon and allowing the rest of it to cascade down her back in curls. Paying her 100 credit entrance fee she looked around the Cork for a moment or two to see if she recognised anyone and then fought her way to the bar. Finally getting there she ordered a glass of white wine. She wasn't about to make the same mistake twice, not after last night, but she did plan to enjoy herself this evening. Looking around the bar she tried to spot anyone she knew, not easy in this crowd but her height at least gave her some advantage. Since she knew now that the Rose was in dock as well she hoped to meet someone special from that ship. However she really didn't hold out much hope to be honest. Mike would be far more likely to be at Braaks gambling along with his friends this evening. Looking around for a seat she was taken aback when someone stood in front of her and began to speak to her. "Wow, I hope you realise that you are wearing a neat costume. It's really, really retro, you probably know that of course, since you are wearing it. Josh blinked, not really having paid attention to what he was saying. "Pardon?" "It's just so laid back. Every one here is trying to be someone else and you are so just, well, yourself." Josh smiled half heartedly and thanking him tried to move on through the crowd but unfortunately he started following her. "No, I mean it. It's retro, it way beyond time and I get it you are totally in your own time and everyone has to get you. I get that so totally, I do and I want to represent you. Honestly, I see big things in your future. Josh turned around and looked at him, all 5'3" of him and smiled. "You've made a mistake I already have big things in my future thank you." Walking toward the nearest clear table she was just about to sit down when he caught up with her again. "Bigger that being the next face of Unicorp." Josh sighed loudly. "I am an Officer in Starfleet, I think that beats being Unicorp's next model thank you very much. You are now bothering me, please leave before I end up breaking both your arms or you legs in an effort to convince you to leave." Hoping that the threat was enough to convince her miniscule pursuer to leave her alone Josh sat down at the table she had found. Unfortunately he proved to be far more determined that Josh had thought. Sitting down at her table he began to list all the advantages she would have as a Unicorp employee. Josh seriously considered simply breaking his legs for a minute or two but knew to be honest that she could not. Standing up she thanked him for his offer, told him she would indeed consider it, took his card and walking away from the table deftly dropped the card in the nearest trash can. Walking back towards the bar she looked for someone that she could talk to that would at least rescue her from her erstwhile pursuer before he started following her again and she did end up breaking something serious. (Reply Mike, anyone) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca, Main Engineering, aCEO Ensign Anton Gesar, 2312) Anton was running a little late. He was all set to leave after replying to several urgent messages in his message queue, when the computer informed him he had another urgent message. It struck him that people tended to mark messages urgent because it was urgent for them personally and not an actual urgent situation. It was a Lieutenant Steven Matrix, the CEO of the Rosenante. He was inviting him to come have a look at their ship. It had not even occurred to Anton to do that. Perhaps this was a standard department head thing in engineering, a tradition of sort. Anton decided to make a mental note to check with Lorimar next time he had the chance. "Computer, patch me into the Starbase communication network and establish communication with comm badge of Lieutenant Steven Matrix of the Rosenante." The computer took a second. =/\= Communication established =/\= "Ensign Gesar to Lieutenant Matrix." (Reply Matrix) "Sir, I just read our message. I'm all set to go to tonight's celebration, I was planning to make my way to the Country Cork. I heard some of the others on the ship talk about it and sounded like a good place. Perhaps you'd care to meet me there and we can get acquainted and set some plans for tomorrow. If you have other plans of course I would be glad to come to the Rosenante first thing tomorrow morning and would be honored if you could come aboard the Boudicca for an informal inspection of the engineering systems and crew." ~I hope I said that right.~ Anton thought. (Reply Matrix) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - County Cork - ACEO Lt. JG Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 2313) "I was born in Ireland. We moved when I was six, but my family went back regularly. I'm Eian O'Neill," Eian said, shifting his drink to his other hand so he could shake hers. "Really." placing her hand in his. "I'm Jessica Signos. I hope this New Year finds you well?" "And you as well," Eian answered, giving her a winning smile. She was beautiful, he thought. Her dress reminded him of one of the pieces of clothing that a holonovel character wore, in a story he was required to watch for school when he was thirteen years old. He thought it had something to do with a magical bridge in the woods, but he remembered in his early teenage development being very attracted to that character and her yellow dress. Eian was an excellent judge of character, and something about Jessica made him think that she had the personality to match the beauty in the dress. "It's nice to meet you," he said, trying to think of what else to say. ~Eian, you absolutely suck at one-on-one conversations.~ "So are you stationed on a ship, or are you a civvie...?" "On Ship." her answer was short, and Eian thought that she was probably worried that he was some local idiot trying to score. Maybe if she knew he was in Starfleet...? "I'm ACEO on the Rosenante," he said, probably a little too quickly. ~Great, now she knows you're nervous. You're such a loser, Eian,~ he chided himself. Then he caught himself. ~Okay, I'm gonna have to stop that. I'm not a loser. She doesn't even know who I am. She's probably not analyzing me like I'm analyzing her. She might even *like* me,~ he reassured himself. She grinned at him. "I see, how are things then on the Rosenante?" "Well, considering we're on shore leave, things are pretty slow. But no news is good news, I guess, after the whole murder investigation on the station. Were you around for that?" (reply Signos) "Oh, okay. Well, you missed a bit of excitement," he said, and took a sip of Guinness. "So what do you do 'on ship'?" He threw in a smile for good measure. (reply Signos) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Promenade - SO Ensign Eva Saint Jean- Day 2- 2314) Eva wasn't exactly on the prowl, unless you considered that she was interested in finding someone to talk with so that she could dissuade the wolves in the crowd looking for a piece of meat to sink their teeth into. She had already narrowly managed to dodge no less than two such suitors, who thought that the best way to usher in the new year was to invite her to a meeting of a more carnal nature. Personally, she didn't have any desire to rut around with people that she didn't know. Especially when they were significantly more interested in sport than any sort of relationship. Besides which most of the more attractive mature looking men seemed to be taken. She could see the social predator crossing the room towards her, and she knew that he simply wasn't going to take no for an answer as long as she appeared to be alone. She pushed her way through the crowd at the County Cork until she reached the bar. She ended up standing next to a guy who was sitting watching the bar entrance drinking something that was almost luminescent in its greenness. Mister predator had homed in on her like a photon torpedo set to find its prey. She looked up in time to catch the bartender's attention. "What'll it be?" he asked her. Eva pointed to the green fu-fu drink that the young man next to her was consuming and replied, "I'll have one of those." The Bartender nodded and in a flash, the brilliant light green drink was placed in front of her. She turned around facing the same direction as the man she was sitting next to and took a sip of the drink. Her lips puckered for a moment, since the drink was stronger than she had expected. She squeezed her eyes closed for a moment to keep from making a worse face. When she opened her eyes, the predator was standing there in front of her. "Hi." He said, showing a cosmetically engineered smile. "Uh..." she replied, ~Crap, now what?~ "Are you here with anyone?" he asked her. Eva's eyes slid to her right to the man sitting beside her. "As a matter of fact I am." she replied and nodded her head in her neighbor's direction. The predator raised his eye brows in disbelief. The look on his face said, 'nice try, but I've caught you.' That's when Eva did something that even she didn't expect. She moved sideways, and with a sense of desperate urgency, she grabbed the man sitting beside her, turned his face towards her and planted a passionate kiss firmly on his surprised lips. That was apparently enough to convince the predator, as he gave a snuff of air, turned up his nose and then finally walked away. Eva held the kiss the entire time the man had been watching her. With a sigh of relief, she released her neighbor and smiled at him. A little bit of an embarrassed blush spread across her cheeks. "Uh... hi?" she offered him. (reply Jacobs) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Promenade, aCEO Ensign Anton Gesar , 2317) Personally he would have rather avoided the party all together but it would be rather sad to spend new years alone in his room. Besides, it would be a poor way to honor his father. New years was kind of a special time for Anton and Boris. It was perhaps the only time that Anton would ever see his father ever shed that typical Gesar frown and actually have a good time. Anton knew that it was Boris's way of honoring and remembering his wife. Boris told him once that every new year she would drag him out to a party or a celebration, despite his dislike of such gatherings. She would always tell him, "Как Ты празднуеш Новый год, то так твой год и будет." * And so Boris always tried to honor her tradition. So here he was, having paid his entry fee and found the Country Cork to be the less crowded and he one filled with more Starfleet people. * NRPG: "Как Ты празднуеш Новый год, то так твой год и будет." is pronounced "Kak Ti Prazdnuyesh noviy god, to tak tvoy god i budet." Translates into "How you spend your new years, that is how your year is going to be." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, The County Cork, SO Ensign Mike Rosenbauer, Day 2- 2318) Mike had slipped into the county Cork and managed to dodge Eva, T'Vyr and Mosh, in order to allow himself to have a little bit of time away from the team for a while. He realized all too realistically, that before the night was over, he'd be at their table, or they at his, but he felt no particular urge to join them currently. Ever since he'd heard that the Boudicca was in dock the day before and had then discovered that Josh had managed to rejoin the fleet, and that she had been assigned there, he had been as giddy as a school boy. He had picked her up a little something from the promenade, after a long day of search for just the right thing. And rumor had it that she was on the station enjoying the party at the County Cork, where ironically he had missed her the evening before, though they had both visited the same place. He spotted her over at the bar a few short minutes after he arrived. She looked a little harried, but every bit the sleek, and sexy woman that he had come to know and love. He used the thickness of the crowd to cover his approach, until he had positioned himself behind her. In the bustle and noise of the crowd she didn't seem to have noticed him, which caused Mike to smile. He placed his left hand gently on her shoulder and whispered in her left ear. "Hello sexy, anyone tell you that it's painful to see such a gorgeous woman sitting all by herself?" (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene ======================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, The Country Cork, aCEO Ensign Anton Gesar , 2320) Anton approached the bar and looked around the party was in full swing. Jacobs was talking to a rather attractive woman and other Boudicca crew looked engaged in a variety of conversations. Someone tapped him on the shoulder, he turned back to the bar to see the bartender standing there. "You gonna order a drink? You're taking up major real estate here." Anton looked around and did notice that he somehow lucked into a spot at the bar as it was getting rather full. "Snakebite," Anton did not bother explaining the drink, if the man did not know how to make it he had no business working here. A few moments later his drink arrived. Anton took a long chug of his drink finishing half the pint in a few large gulps. Though cognac is his standard drink of choice, it is a relaxation drink. Today he was here to be... festive. (Reply Matrix, Any) (Posted by Oleg Kislyuk) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Narrator, Day 3 - 0015) The insidious nature of an infestation of any sort is that fact that often times it has progressed long before you realize that you have a problem. Deep in the bowels of the sixty-three sigma bulk holding bin, a deadly enemy was gnawing on the last few millimeters of the tritanium shell of the massive cylinder that once held the rich Magnesite ore that had been off-loaded just a few days ago by the Tellarite ship Moarvol. And while the inhabitants of Starbase 989 were reveling in the transition from the old year into the new, the bulk of the container was swarming with Vexarak Spoilers. They writhed and devoured anything and everything that they could. The side of the compartment groaned only once as the weakened side wall of the container suddenly gave way under the combined mass of the writhing creatures. A flash flood of twenty legged insects spilled out into the superstructure surrounding the bulk holding bins, releasing the swarm into the heart of the station's industrial section. The waves parted and just as quickly as they had been revealed, they burrowed themselves into equipment, or scuttled under machinery or into access panels looking for the heart of the station. A place of warmth, light and energy. They were hardwired to seek it out and they were capable of getting there quickly. The stations inhabitants didn't realize the danger that was fast approaching. The bins didn't normally handle any materials that they would be concerned with and so they were unmonitored. The infestation spread and the station would soon find itself under the an assault as devastating as any military attack. They faced a determined foe with one goal on its primitive mind, and that goal could potentially spell the doom of every living creature on the station.
