The station went dark more then ten minutes ago, T'Larah and Doug had decided to take a walk around the promenade before that, and were caught halfway across the station when the lights went out. Now they were attempting to find a terminal, feeling around on walls and surfaces. "You want to find a terminal, but with no station power, how are you going to activate the terminal to see what is going on?" Doug asked "One step at a time." she responded. "Found one." Doug reported. T'Larah moved carefully and slowly in the direction of Doug's voice. By that time Doug had already removed the panel. "I've got the panel off, but what are we going to do with no power?" "This type of station was originally put into service in the late 22nd century. Originally designed for service near the Klingon and Romulan Neutral Zones." she said. "And? What does that have to do with it being dark?" Doug asked taking on a slight tone of sarcasm. "Due to the designer's intentions of this being a forward resupply point, in case of attack, many of the panels and terminals had.." she said as she began knocking on the bulkhead until a hollow sound was heard. ".. secret weapons compartments usable during instances when enemies were able to cut main power during an attack, weapons and equipment would be available until officers could reach the armory or security details could reach your position." "What good is a phaser going to do us? Heat setting on a bulkhead for light?" he said grinning even though no one could see it. "Nothing quite so basic. In this case phasers will not be providing their martial function, but one of their base elements, energy." she responded after opening the compartment. She picked up the first type II her fingers touched. With practiced ease T'Larah disassembled the type II to release the power cell. "Waitwiatwait, you can't dump that much raw power into a computer panel, can you?" he asked. "Look at our options Doug, station power is out, which includes communications. We can't contact the Rosenante or even know exactly where we are, we need options." she explained. "Can't we just use our personal communicators? They reach from the planet surface to the ship during away missions, this is a fraction of the distance..." Doug shot back. "Did you bring yours with you?" she asked "Well no, I thought you...." he said. Now realizing that she didn't bring hers. ":Then we have to work with what we have. Our first priority is contact with the ship." she said, knowing that it would be the final word on the subject. The pair then worked to together for a short while, using their sense of touch to rudamentarily replace their sight. They had no tools so everything was done by hand. It was inevitable that they touch each other. When Doug's hand touched the back of T'Larah's wrist images of Doug's thoughts rushed into T'Larah's mind. To which T'Larah responded. "Doug, perhaps you shouldn't dwell on amorous thoughts of me, when it obviously distracts you from the mission at hand." "Yes Commander." he said, going to an 'all business' tone. Sensing his disappointment, "I am not dismissing them, I'm just saying it would be prudent to focus at the task at hand." she said. "Oh. Well then I think we almost have it." he announced. A few more adjustments and T'Larah felt the same way. "Moment of truth." Doug commented. They turned on the console and a few flickers and the terminal sprang to life. It was obvious that this was not a outside communication terminal. T'Larah became frustrated. She had hoped this would be a commo terminal. "This is not a communications terminal." "No but under the circumstances, might be just as good." Doug said, grinning but now visible in the harsh glow of the monitor. "During an emergency the Rose and the Boudicca will concentrating heavily on their sensor readings. If we send out a rhythmic power surge, one of them is bound to see it." "Good thinking, lets get it done." T'Larah said. Unhindered by the lack of light, the pair completed the task very quickly in a matter of a few minutes. "So I take it you want to send morose code?" Doug asked. "Morose code was invented on Earth not Vulcan. Why is it always assumed that Vulcans know Morose code?" T'Larah said. "Well what about prime numbers?" Doug asked. "That will work nicely." she said. [1..3..5..7..11..13..17] she repeated a group of prime numbers, hopeful for a response. (Reply any, Rose bridge, or Boudicca bridge.) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Dark Corridor - CEO - Lt. Steven Matrix - Day 3 - 0117) After a few moments Matrix materialized back aboard the Rosenante. The process of dematerializing and materializing never set well with Matrix. He understood and scrutinized the technology behind beaming and had experienced it thousands of times, but it wasn't something he relished doing. The tingling feeling dissipated and within a few seconds and he was feeling whole again. "Welcome back sir." Darby said. "Thank you Lieutenant. Are the mains back online yet?" asked Matrix as he stepped off the transporter pad. (Reply Darby) "From my vantage point aboard the station, nothing was working. I passed an engineering junction on the way out of the bar and noted no residual power indications in at least that part of the station. As you know, all power junctions have umbilical diagnostic connections fed from adjacent relays. None of those were lit up. Something catastrophic has failed over there." said Matrix. (Reply Darby) "Lets get back to engineering, perhaps we can get a better picture of what's actually going on. Has the engineering crews been recalled?" asked Matrix as he and Darby stepped into the hallway. (Reply Darby) "Once back in engineering I'll check the boards. I'm sure we'll be missing personnel until things start to settle down and people can get to their stations. Its pretty dicey on the station without power, securing the facility is a priority so I'd expect folks stranded for a short while." said Matrix. (Reply Darby) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering - aCEO Anton Gesar - 0221) =/\=Do your best, Chief,=/\= Anton listened to Durand, =/\=And start thinking of contingency operations. We may need to feed some power to the station through the umbilical system if they can’t get their system up and quickly.=/\= "Will do Sir. Soon as we are certain that the power drain will not have a drastic effect on the ship. One last thing sir, I'm sending someone up to the bridge with a portable generator to get some power to the consoles until we get main power back online. =/\=Don’t make that a priority Chief. I hate the thoughts of someone lugging one of those damned things up fifteen decks, even with antigravs. I’d prefer you have everyone you can use working on getting our power grid restored.=/\= "Aye aye sir. Will contact you as soon as I have something." Anton got back to his work. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering - aCEO Anton Gesar - 0254) =/\=Remind me to buy your people a round at the County Cork when this is over... nicely done. Best news I’ve heard in a while. Now... how soon can you stabilize our power reserves, and what have you come up with for ideas to get some power fed to the station if need be?=/\= "Will do sir. As for the reserves, our warpcore was offline by choice sir and not the result of the power failure on the Starbase so our reserves were not heavily effected. Providing power to the starbase should be failry simple, we just need to reverse the power flow through the docking power connections. However sir, I have had a moment to review the data on the creatures on the station. I am no xenobiologist." "... but it seems that the creatures are also feeding on the power as much as they are feeding on the bulkheads. I recommend that prior to supplying power to the Starbase we isolate the areas infected with the creatures from the Starbase power grid." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Durand - 0257) Things were settling down, though still chaotic aboard the station, the Boudicca herself was secure, and that meant they at least had a safe haven if needed. =^=Gesar to Captain Durand. Ensign Jacobs just reported in from the station. They have isolated the creatures with forcefields and are working on restoring power to the Starbase.=^= Every time he heard from Gesar, he was pleased. Here was an officer that took to his duties naturally. Alan suspected there was indeed a bright future for the young man in Starfleet. “Alright Chief. Lend them whatever assistance they require that can be spared. Out.” (Reply Gesar iyw) Durand waited a few more minutes, then he judged it was time to move. The Captain wasn’t a statue after all. “Mister Roberts, you have the bridge. I’ll be in Main Engineering.” --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign(jg) Henry Jacobs - 0308) Jacobs and his team had been very busy in their work to restore power to engineering and then throughout the station when help showed up just in the right time. He heard someone ask who was in charge and didn't hesitate to state that he was since it was only him and the Sigma damage recovery team in engineering. Jacobs began, "For the moment I am leading the repairs. Im Henry Jacobs from the Boudicca. Myself and this damage control team have been here a while trying to restore power and repair what we can. Who do I have the pleasure of speaking with?" "Tyrone Cooper, I'm with the Rosenante. These guys are station personnel. We acquired the contents from a pair of damage control lockers on the way here. How can we help?" Jacobs was just elated that there was someone else to work with in returning power to the station so he quickly explained what he and the team were currently working on and what else needed to be done. Three of the men acknowledged their orders and began removing the corpses from the area. Mr. Cooper had an air about him that commanded respect because as he spoke things got done; and yet he was just as humble as he asked Henry where he could be of assistance. "Well Mr. Cooper, follow me over here I want to show you something." The two men moved over to the station power readout display. By this time the Boudicca had repowered the station up to 40% capacity. Jacobs pointed out the power flow direction coming from the Boudicca via the umbilicals to the station. It actually made sense since life support had been holding all this time. "We need to get this reactor back to powering the station. Even if the Rosenante follow suite with the Boudicca, we need to get this stations power back up. A level three diagnostic needs to be run while we continue to repairs here in engineering. Full power can't be returned to the station until we know exactly what needs repair, and with a station this size I'm afraid there is a lot of work in store for us. Mr Cooper I need you at the power distribution terminal. I need to know where the power flow is being directed and or diverted. From there we can begin extenuating repairs." (Reply Cooper) "Thanks for you assistance I'm going to check in with the Boudicca and see if any other help is on the way." A quick tap to his comm badge and he opened a channel. "Jacobs to Ensign Gesar" (Reply Gesar) "Currently there are about 15 starfleet crew members down here in engineering all working to reestablish power to the station. Power displays do show that the Boudicca is powered and transferring power to the station. Force fields are holding at the moment keep the creatures from interfering with our work." (Reply Gesar) (Posted by DArryl) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering - aCEO Anton Gesar - 0312*) Anton was careful about it. Feeding the station a little bit of power at a time. Always ready to close the faucet as soon as he saw any power spikes on the draw from the station. All was looking good so far. =/\=Jacobs to Ensign Gesar=/\= "Yes Ensign." =/\=Currently there are about 15 starfleet crew members down here in engineering all working to reestablish power to the station. Keep up the good work and continue reporting in." "Gesar to Captain Durand. Ensign Jacobs just reported in from the station. They have isolated the creatures with forcefields and are working on restoring power to the Starbase." (Reply Durand) (Posted by Oleg Kislyuk) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering - CO Captain Durand - 0320) With a nod to any of the crew that glanced in his direction, Durand made his way quickly to where he found the ship’s aCEO working. “Nice work getting things back together so quickly Chief... I appreciate the effort. Make sure the troops know that the ‘old man’ is happy with the department.” (Reply Gesar) “Now... what do you make of these creatures? Have you had a chance to look over the data from the Rosenante?” (Reply Gesar, Any) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Durand - 0437) A great deal of ‘hurry up and wait’ had been conducted of late. The bridge crew were busy. Alan had busied himself staying out of the way. He was struggling mightily to resist leading a security team to help quell the riots; or even a damage control party to serve their own purpose. Not options, either one of them. When his commbadge chirped, he was appreciative of the distraction. =^=Captain Salid to Captain Durand=^= ~At last!~ “Go ahead sir.” =^=Captain, I wanted to give you an update on our progress and to keep you advised of some new developments.=^= “Good developments, I hope? We’ve had enough bad news for the month already.” Salid quickly related the news about Ensign Signos. Alan hoped fervently that she was alright. She’d been acquitting herself well, according to all reports. When Salid finished, Durand thanked him for the information. Salid continued with the much more disturbing news about the Rosenante engineer ‘infected’ by the creatures, and the general situation. “Captain I’m sorry to hear about your crewman, but relieved to know that he’ll make a recovery. As to assisting your research... our science department is thin in the extreme, but anything we can do to help we will.” He thought a moment, reviewing dossiers in his head. He had committed many of them to memory, and read all of them at least once during his time in command. “Captain, our Doctor Candle has a sort of double specialization as a scientist. If I recall correctly, he may also have some experience that is specifically on-point to our situation. You may have him assist your people, provided he’s not engaged in medical duties that would exclude that. You have my leave to co-opt him as needed.” (Reply Salid) “As to the station situation, I do in fact have some information. My chief engineer has informed me that his assistant, Mister Jabobs is active in the stations’ engineering section. They have fifteen engineers there at last report, and they have isolated themselves for the time being from the infestation with forcefields.” He paused a moment, then went on. “If these things ‘feed’ on energy, do you suppose there might be a danger that we hadn’t considered? Beyond the damage to the power grid... what if they were able to draw ‘sustenance’ directly from the forcefields, or the systems feeding them? I doubt with the available energy we have that we can cover and block all possible routes of advance with shields. I think we need to get a more permanent solution to this, and quickly.” (Reply Salid, Any, Room for more) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Science bay - SciO, Ens,jg Narvak - Day 3, 0535) Narvak stared at the creature that seemed to glare back at him. The moment that this thing was hand delivered, the science officer ran every sentience test in the book; however the creature showed as much self awareness as a terrene termite. That should have made his job easier. ~Not much, this thing is practically indestructible~ Disgusted, Narvak tapped his communicator. “Narvak to Salid” (Reply Salid) “This thing is a Vexarak Spoiler, probably Plague of Qirorloxx too” (Reply Salid) “well, lets see. First sighting on Stardate 1531.15.13 in the Daias sector..” (Reply Salid) “Oh, fine. Three sightings. First; ship- blown up. Second; Transit hub- blown up and third, Processing facilities- Blown up and sunk into the sun. I am kind of curious how they managed that though. Oh, and the Plague was just a lot of hand wringing as they watched their space station disappear. Set back their space program back at least five hundred years. Idiots” Narvak put the padd down and looked back at the creature “I guess we are trying to save the Starbase.” (Reply Salid) The sigh was audible “I managed to injure it with a plasma torch at about 5900 kv and modified baryon emitter made it hibernate. Of course dropping it into the sun may be less destructive then a baryon stream. Maybe, if I tweek it a bit, we could arrest their progress, without melting the people on the Starbase.” (Reply Salid) “Yes, the little buggers really like Osimium seasoned with Iridium, I think that they just use living creatures as a form of locomotion, so they should jump on the first piece of candy that they come across. But, short of sticking it on my arm and waiving a chuck of rock in front of its nose; there is not much of a way to test it.” (Reply Salid) “Ok, I’ll look into it and get back to you. Narvak out” The Tellerite turned to the creature and stated. ”Alright, you little reiak, lets see how much you like the V band” (Reply Salid) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (P/V Tranquility-Bridge-Vessel Master-LT Chance Raschen-0841) Durand addressed Raschen again. =^=Lieutenant, there have been some… technical issues aboard the station, I don’t think you will get a response from docking control. If you would care to parallel moor with us, you are welcome to hard dock to our primary starboard gangway. Is that acceptable to you?=^= "Yes, thank you sir. Our generators need some maintenance, could I impose on you for some assistance sir so that we don't go dark-ship?" “Very well Lieutenant, we’ll extend the gangway and mooring umbilical. I’ll have my people escort you to the bridge.” "I will see you shortly then Captain. And again, thank you. Tranquility out." Chance said as gave Duke the signal to close the transmission. Raschen then got up out of his chair and headed out of the bridge as he spoke "Brandy; you, and Duke get us moored. Maggie, get the umbilical hooked up and the generators shut down. Walker, give her a hand. Lucien, do your security scans; and don't be quit about it either. I need to get cleaned up a little before my escort meets us." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 3 0844) Josh had been sitting on the bridge for almost three hours now. Finally enough medical and security personnel had turned up at the main medical facility to allow her to leave. She had turned over everything to do with medical to Dr Harvey knowing that she had more than enough backup with the teams from Dr Ichijo and Dr Candle and both the Boudicca's and the Rose's setup. Security had been left in Lt Trei's hands with Mike Rosenbauer as his back up and Josh had finally made her way back to the Boudicca escorted by two security ensigns from that ship. She had badly wanted to co-opt Rosenbauer and Saint Jean, but much as she wanted them with her, well ok, as much as she wanted Rosenbauer with her she knew that he was still needed where he was so leaving him behind she made her way back to her ship. As the call came in from the Tranquility Josh smiled slightly at the call sign and watched as Captain Durand checked everything out and finally suggested that they dock at the starboard gangway. She turned to him as he approached the command chairs again and spoke to him quietly. "Sir, I can confirm that this is indeed Lt Raschen since I know him personally from the Rose. I can also confirm that the Tranquility is also his ship since I have indeed been a passenger on that ship previously." (Reply Durand iyw) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Durand - 0846) Durand addressed one of Raschen’s requests while they awaited his arrival on the bridge. “Durand to Gesar. Chief, Mister Raschen, Master of the Tranquility has asked if we might assist him with some work on her generators. Are you able to accommodate that?” (Reply Gesar) After thanking Gesar, he turned to face Commander Caskie as she spoke to him. "Sir, I can confirm that this is indeed Lt Raschen since I know him personally from the Rose. I can also confirm that the Tranquility is also his ship since I have indeed been a passenger on that ship previously,” commented Caskie. “Pardon my nasty, suspicious mind, Commander,” he began with a smile in her direction. “I find that it keeps me -- and the people I serve with -- alive. Of course, I accept your verification of his identity as accurate... as well as that of his vessel. I trust you won’t mind if we scan that cargo before it comes aboard though, right?” (Reply Caskie) He was still smiling when he continued in a voice low enough that only she could hear. “Josh, what can you tell me about this man? He looks a little old for a lieutenant... but of course looks are often deceiving.” (Reply Caskie, Room for more iyw) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (P/V Tranquility-Cargo Bay-Vessel Master-LT Chance Raschen-0850) Raschen was standing with his right arm toward the Tranquility's portside cargo bay door as he talked to LMaj (FC) Shea, and LMaj (SFMC) La Croix when the door opened to reveal the security detail sent to escort him to the bridge of the Keltoi-class ship. He loved the various reactions he got from some folks when they see the Irregular Federation Forces patch (NRPG: you can see it on my character's wiki page that I need to update now that I've returned from Haiti.) on the right sleeve of his uniform. The patch itself is a red and black shadowy wolf inside a red circle with stars for the eyes and long teeth. The red circle is outlined in white with white laurls, all on a blue field. And like always, Chance wore his regular suspenders that sheathed his twin Bowie knives, on his back, under his uniform jacket. After giving his companions their instructions about the cargo for the Boudicca and the vessel maintenance for the Tranquility, the former privateer turned to the security detail leader and said with a smile "I guess you've come to take me away, huh?" as he raised his hands to shoulder level. (Reply any) The two of the three Tranquility officers (Raschen and La Croix) snickered at the security officer's comment, it had sounded like something they were once told during the Fed-Car War. Chance then shook hands with his two compatriats and headed down the gangway saying to the members of the escort "Alright folks, 'Take me to your leader'." (Reply any iyw) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca – Bridge – LT Chance Raschen– 0855) Once on the bridge Raschen was then led to where Captain Durand was sitting in his command chair. ~I wonder if this is formal or not.~ He popped the heals of his boots together as he smartly went to the position of attention "Lieutenant Chance Raschen reporting as directed sir." he said and waited for Durand to acknowledge him. He wasn't sure, but he thought he saw Caskie sitting in the XO's chair in a red uniform; but the last he heard she was the CMO. (Reply Durand) (Reply Durand, any) Posted by Charlie --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - 0858) As soon as Rachen was led to the bridge to speak with the Captain Josh kept her own face as straight as she could and did her best not to catch his attention. She watched as he clicked his heels together and had to smother a smile. All she could see was Chance standing there and clicking his heels in a pair of ruby slippers. She could just see him repeating "There's no place like home." So, pretending to check her display she kept her face hidden as much as she could. Until finally she had to either stop or laugh. Turning back towards him she simply nodded at him and smiled. (Reply Chance, Durand iyw) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Durand - 0900) Lieutenant Raschen made his way quickly to the center of the bridge after his security escort brought him out of the turbolift. He brought himself stiffly to attention, even going so far as to click his heels together. Durand held his gaze a moment, then the faux solemnity of the moment was more than he could take. His face broke into a smile and he stood and extended his hand in greeting. “At ease Lieutenant, welcome aboard. I’m Captain Durand... I believe you know my First Officer, Commander Caskie?” As he spoke he immediately noted the unusual -- and very distinctive -- patch on Raschen’s uniform. He knew it instantly... it might explain many things, including the evident disparity between the Lieutenant’s age and rank. Those sort of people often engaged, he knew, in the sort of missions that you are not allowed to talk about... and are awarded medals that you can't wear. ~Interesting indeed...~ (Reply Raschen, Caskie, Any) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Rothal Chapel, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma, 1312) Ben was in his dress uniform, which seemed just a little tighter then he remembered, Sanok was beside him as they watched the wedding ceremony proceed. Tom and Dahlia were getting married, they looked very happy together and Ben wished them both the best of luck. Captain Salid had put a spin on the usual ceremony creating a unique blend of several different variations. From the corner of his eye Ben noticed a questioning look on his friends face but since he didn't openly ask it he assumed the present circumstances was considered inappropriate and he would make his inquiry at a later time. The ceremony wound down as the newly joined couple passed the crowd, now the bride was preparing to throw her bouquet. Ben watched as Dahlia turned back on and tossed the flowers over her head, he watched the high arch it made as it headed up and over the crowd of eager women. It seemed as if Sanok was about to say something when he caught the movement from the corner of his eye, instinctively he reached out to stop the object from hitting him and caught the bouquet much to the dismay of the group of women who turned to look at him in annoyance. He saw the puzzled look on Sanok's face and was about to ask him who the lucky man was when Sanok tossed the flowers back at the group of women in an act of self preservation. Clearly his friend didn't understand this segment of the ceremony but Ben reserved the image so he could taunt his friend about it later. "Perhaps we should go to RJs now," said Sanok to Ben. "I prearranged with Rupert to have two seats saved at the bar." Before Ben could say anything Sanok had turned and quickly made his way out, perhaps he did understand what had just occured and wanted to avoid any teasing that may result from the rest of the assembled crowd. Ben smiled and jogged to catch up with his friend before he made it too far. As he caught up and matched pace he turned and said. "Feeling a little jumpy are we?" The remains of a grin on his face. (reply Sanok, any) (posted by Milo Young) ======================================================= (Starbase 989, Rothal Chapel, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 8, 1300) Ahmed smiled from his position at the center of the chamber where a good number of the collected crews stood in celebration of the coming event of Marriage between Ton and Dahlia. The guests had gathered round the outside edge of the place making a single impromptu corridor lined by well-wishers stretching from the antechamber where the bride-to-be, and her maid of Honor doctor ichijo, were waiting for their moment to appear and the location of the center of the chamber where Thomas Jackson, Steve Matrix and Ahmed stood waiting as well. Ahmed had never performed a wedding before and had taken the task very seriously, reading up on a variety of services and litanies before finally deciding to create his own unique text. Almost every Starfleet Officer present wore their dress uniforms, and their dates were equally as well dressed. Even Ahmed, who hated his own personal dress Uniform was dressed in his whites, and he had even taken the time to pin on the few Medals that he had earned over the course of his career, which he noted were far fewer than those worn by some of his junior officers. The attendant of the chapel had set up a holo-recording device to record the entire event. They had also arranged for some wonderfully fragrant and beautiful flowers to be provided. RJs, now repaired from the rioting almost a week earlier was to host the after event reception, and as far as Ahmed could tell all was set. The captain had no book or other documents, since he had already memorized the entirety of the proceedings that were to come. One gift granted by his edict memory was that he would never forget the lines of a speech or play, although this was the first time he'd ever really spoken as an officiator. He glanced over at a nervous Thomas Jackson, who seemed to be fidgeting in his dress whites. The man was understandably anxious, although he need not be, after all he was already technically married to the woman, and this was simply a more traditional means of reaffirming their commitment to one another. He glanced over at Matrix, who as always seemed as cool as he always was. The man simply never let any sort of pressure get to him. As the chronometer turned over, the Rosenante band, an unofficial group of like-minded members of her crew, began the beautiful strains of the wedding march. The doors to the alcove practically flew open and Dahlia, in her gorgeous white dress entered the room with all eyes fixed on her, followed by Doctor Ichijo, in her dress uniform. They paced themselves well, reaching the center of the chamber just a few moments before the end of the song. Ahmed smiled at the simplicity of the act as Dahlia settled into her position alongside Tom; Ichijo standing just a little further away. Ahmed took a deep breath and began. "Friends, Colleagues, and honored guests. Let me first thank you for attending this most sacred of events- the union of Thomas and Dahlia in the bonds of Matrimony." "Since time immemorial, mankind has sought out companionship and love. We have striven to achieve a harmony, that while alone could not be found, yet when joined with another could be. The institution of marriage is the oldest of our traditions, Originating at the beginning of our creation when Adam and Eve were first created to love each other and to cherish the gift of love that was theirs to have and to hold." "As the ages passed, the face of our world, our society and our culture changed, yet the institution of Marriage remained a steadfast remembrance of a simpler time, when a greater need among mankind was fulfilled by the simple pleasures of love and marriage." "Mankind outgrew their world, pushed their limits to explore the cosmos created for them to explore. They met new friends among the stars, each with their own ways and cultures and, embracing them, learned the true meaning of prosperity and peace." "Yet always among those that we met, all shared a common thread- that of marriage and love. Though the means of co-joining a man and woman may differ, the fundamental principles of the arrangement remain always the same." "Dedication. Devotion. Love. Honor. Unity... These are but a few of the higher ideals that we strive for when we find someone that speaks to our souls. And though no ceremony can give us these things, the familiar trappings of just such a ceremony allows us to share our joy and happiness with those closest to us. To proudly announce to the universe that we have found love that is worth cherishing for all of eternity; that we are no longer two separate halves of a soul, but are now joined in the common goal of total love and devotion." "Today we are gathered here in such a ceremony, to celebrate the joys of finding love between two people. It is this celebration of life, love and joy that brings us together today as a common people, regardless of our origins, in recognition of the universal truths of love and devotion." Ahmed smiled. He paused for a short moment to allow everyone a moment to consider his words before continuing. "May I have the rings?" He asked. (Reply Matrix) Ahmed accepted the two rings from the best man and then still wearing the smile he handed one to Tom. Dahlia handed her bouquet of flowers to Ichijo in preparation for what came next. She was absolutely beaming with love. "Thomas. You have long been a good friend and a solid officer. I have had the honor of knowing you and have long wished for you the very best in all things. I offer you this ring now, as a symbol of union and love; of charity between two people that you may take it and through it join your soul to that of the woman that you love and claim as your wife. Place the ring upon her finger and repeat after me." Ahmed watched as Tom gently slid the wedding band over Dahlia's slender finger. They were both smiling, although Tom looked more nervous than Dahlia. "I Thomas, swear by all the powers that will hear me, that I will love and cherish you for all time. I will honor you, cherish you and love you always. I will tend you when you grow ill and share with you all the joys of our lives. I will stand steadfast by your side in crisis or in peace, and I shall always defend you to my last days. You complete my soul, and I shall never forget all that you are to me, nor shall I ever allow my love and devotion to falter in the face of adversity. I shall dedicate myself to your well-being, that we may always be together until death does part our path. Through the grace of love we shall be complete and we shall never part souls." (reply Jackson) Once Thomas had completed the vows, he then handed Dahlia the second ring. "Dahlia. Though I have known you but a short time, I feel as if we have been friends for a long age. I have the honor of knowing you and have seen the joy and love in your heart for Thomas. I wish for you the very best in all things. I offer you this ring now, as a symbol of union and love; of charity between two people that you may take it and through it join your soul to that of the man that you love and claim as your husband. Place the ring upon his finger and repeat after me." Dahlia complied, although Ahmed could finally see the nervousness in her as she gently slid the ring over Tom's finger. "I Dahlia, swear by all the powers that will hear me, that I will love and cherish you for all time. I will honor you, cherish you and love you always. I will tend you when you grow ill and share with you all the joys of our lives. I will stand steadfast by your side in crisis or in peace, and I shall always defend you to my last days. I shall dedicate myself to your well-being, that we may always be together until death does part our path. Through the grace of love we shall be complete and we shall never part souls." Dahlia's voice quivered slightly as she repeated the words, the emotion of them obviously touching her deeply. He gave her a moment to compose herself before continuing. "As a witness to these vows, and knowing the hearts of these two people, I can not in good conscious deny them the formality of marriage, though they need not have it to express their love and devotion for one another." "By the authority invested in me by Starfleet Command as Commanding Officer of the USS Rosenante, and by the laws of the Creator and Nature I hereby announce the joining of these two individuals in the bonds of matrimony and love. Let no one set asunder that which was bound together this day. May you both live long and fulfilling lives and may you never part ways." Ahmed then turned away from the married pair and addressed the collected guests. "Assembled Guests. I humbly present to you, Mister and Mrs. Thomas and Dahlia Jackson, husband and wife." Ahmed spoke once again to his good friend and in his best Captain's voice said simply. "Mister Jackson, I hereby order you to kiss this woman." (reply Jackson) There was a massive cheer as the two newly weds kissed and embraced in a celebration of their love. Over the din of the collected guests, the band struck up again and the press of guests parted to allow the wedding party to exit the chapel towards RJs, while being pelted by flower petals and rice. Ahmed smiled as he watched his long time friend and his new wife head towards the reception. Pausing just long enough at the doorway for Dahlia to toss the bride's bouquet to the assembled single women. NRPG: First come first served on the bouquet ladies. Reception at RJs to follow. (reply Jackson, Ichijo, Matrix, All others present) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Rothal Chapel, CEO, Lt. Steven Matrix, Day 8, 1303) The memory of the events of the past few days quickly faded as the ceremony began. The atmosphere was jubilant and all seemed to relish in celebrating the reason for such an occasion. Matrix was honored to be here and even more so to be chosen as the best man. Matrix couldn't remember a gathering with so many in dress uniform that wasn't an official inquiry. ~Did I remember to bring the rings?~ Matrix frantically patted down his pockets only to remember that he had purposely placed the wedding rings in his inside breast pocket for safe keeping. He had checked its contents at least a dozen times before leaving his quarters. After the brief moment of horror passed he again relaxed and awaited for the formal event to begin. The Captain conducted the formalities from memory, an elegant and well rehearsed colloquy. All too quickly Ahmed paused and asked Matrix for the rings. "May I have the rings?" the Captain asked. "With great pleasure." replied Matrix as he handed them to Captain Ahmed. Matrix smiled and made eye contact with both the bride and groom. They were stunning and into the moment. Matrix was envious and thought of their devotion and dedication to one another during this time. As the two exchanged their vows it was obvious the two cared deeply for one another. It was a moving sight and nearly brought Matrix to tears. As the Captain ordered Mister Jackson to kiss the bridge everyone chuckled, then cheers and applause filled the chapel. Matrix was all smiles. The fit was fine, the collar was fine, but the colour was all wrong for her. White made her blend into the background and she hated it with a passion. So deciding to stand at the back of the chapel had made sense to Josh. She more or less thought herself invisible as she took a place at the back and waited for the ceremony to start. However she wasn't as invisible as she though since Mike had managed to find her in the press of people and sneaked up beside her. (Repy Rosenbauer) Grinning at him she winked and put a finger to his lips asking him to be quiet. She listened in silence as the lucky couple took their vows and as the crowd surged down to greet them Josh took Mike's arm and headed towards Tom and Dahlia intent on giving them her best wishes. She watched as Dahlia's bouquet was thrown and watched the scrum for it smiling all the while. When that was finally over Josh and Mike approached the happy couple. Finally managing to stand in front of Jackson Josh hugged him. "Congratulations Tom. My very best wishes to you and your new wife." (Reply Tom, Dahlia) Kissing both the bride and the groom Josh and Mike then worked their way over to the buffet and began loading their plates. Finding a seat in a quiet corner Josh turned to Mike. I'm fairly sure that nothing is going to disrupt anything tonight I hope are you free? (Reply Rosenbauer) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Docked SB 989 Rothal Chapel 2O/COPS Lt Tom and Dahlia Jackson Day 8 1306) Tom tugged yet again at his dress uniform. Today was the first time he had ever needed the uniform. Normally calm and composed, tom was like a kid with ADD. For the latest in what must be a thousand times, he wished he had by-passed the ceremony but he knew in his heart that this was the right thing to do. He glanced around and noticed many close friends. Pez, that little bugger, had brought his mum to the ceremony as a special gift to the couple. His mum's dear face showed tears of joy and pride in her little boy Tom. She loved him dearly and was worried he'd never face his life's mate. His mum had always loved Dahlia. He had not had the chance to ask her if she had a hand in bringing Dahlia to SB 989. If so, she read his mind and heart over the countless light years that had been between them. He smiled at his friend Steve Matrix. If it were possible, Steve hated the dress uniform more than he did !! Steve was about as nervous as Tom was. He had caught his friend checking for the rings multiple times. Tom's ring was made from the remains of an ancient space ship used in the exploration program called Apollo. Dahlia's ring was one that Tom thought reflected her beauty and the peace and love she had always given him. It was simple but spoke volumes about her. Besides Pez again had come to rescue. His step-dad had used some of the profits recently made to give his daughter-in-law a nice gift. from what he knew of Ferengi commerce laws, it was deductible as well. As he and Steve waited for the bride and her entourage to appear, Tom glanced around and saw some old and dear friends. He spied Cmdr Caskie. Josh was again in Starfleet and that somehow comforted Tom Jackson. Tom Jackson's reverie was snapped back to reality as the Rosenante's musical ensemble began the traditional wedding march. The bride and maid of honour walked slowly to where Tom, Steve and Captain Salid were standing. Kimiko moved to where the bride's entourage were to stand. Ron's heart melted and in site of himself, tears began to trickle down his face. He so loved Dahlia. He had come to realize how empty his life had been prior to her. Dahlia was so stunningly beautiful. Her face showed it. If there were a supreme being, he surely had sent this vision of loveliness to Tom Jackson. Each gazed at the other. Ahmed Salid begin to speak the words that would unite these two people forever. Tom listened to the words his friend were speaking. they were simple yet elegant. He spoke of how marriage took two separate lives and melded them into a new entity. Ahmed's words humbled and spoke to Thomas Jackson and his bride. Ahmed asked Steve Matrix fro the rings that symbolized the love these two would share fro all time. Tom took the ring for Dahlia when his friend said to. Tom was at peace - this was the moment he had long thought would never come. His heart sagged a bit as he fleetingly thought of Josh a nd her loss. He sincerely hoped his friend would find love once again. The CO spoke the words that changed Tom's world and told Tom to take Dahlia' ring and repeat the words of his vow. Tom swore his vows. His heart was so full of love and pride his tears started again. this was he side he never let anyone but family see and now all the world had seen his soft side. (reply: any) (posted by: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Rothal Chapel, aSec Lieutenant jg Sanok, Day 8, 1310) Wearing his dress uniform and standing next to Ben, Sanok watched with interest, the marriage ceremony of Tom Jackson and Dahlia. He was familiar with a number of different wedding customs, so he was curious to see which one would be used now. As it turned out, Captain Salid and taken different customs and traditions and combined them into something original. There was one thing, however, that Sanok did not understand. The couple was already married under Federation law, and he understood the reasons for having a ceremony to symbolize and celebrate the joining, but presuming that the couple had already consummated their marriage, why was Dahlia wearing a white dress? He was going to ask Ben about that, but thought better of it, as that moment probably wasn't an appropriate time. He would ask later. The ceremony ended and the wedded couple passed by. Sanok turned to Ben to talk, but a commotion from a group of single women, stopped him. From the corner of his eye, he saw something coming towards his head, so he instinctively reached out to protect himself. To his surprise, Sanok found that he was now holding the bridal bouquet. Sanok stared at the flowers. He looked at Ben again, an unspoken 'now what' question on his face. Things had gotten quiet, so he looked back at the group of women. They were staring at him in disbelief, causing Sanok to feel as though he were a prey animal facing done a pack of lupines on the hunt. For his self-preservation, he threw the bouquet towards the women. "Perhaps we should go to RJs now," said Sanok to Ben. "I prearranged with Rupert to have two seats saved at the bar." Before his friend could respond, Sanok quickly scurried away. (reply Ben, any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Promenade, Lieutenant jg Ben Soma, Lieutenant jg Sanok, Day 8, 1315) "Feeling a little jumpy, are we?" said Ben with a smirk on his face and mischief in his eyes. Sanok did not look at his friend, but continued walking towards RJs. "I felt it was prudent to make a quick and hasty exit. Did you see the expressions on their faces? I now understand how an antelope feels when facing a pride of hungry lions." Ben laughed a little at the remark. "You did have that haunted look in your eye," Ben replied. "I did notice the look on the faces of the women. Had you held on to the bouquet, I think they would have torn you apart." Ben paused for a moment and then added. "You do know the significance behind catching those flowers, don't you?" "I am not certain, as I have not done an in-depth study of the marriage traditions of your world," said Sanok. "I do realize, however, that it means something special to the women." Ben couldn't resist a big grin before he responded. "It signifies that the person who catches the bouquet, is the next one to get married. Though the women traditionally are the ones who try to catch it, while the men await their turn to catch the garter." "I see," said Sanok. Numerous things ran through his mind. How did these traditions begin? Why was a female undergarment chosen for the men to catch? Were the two that caught the items supposed to marry each other? If they did not wish to do so, were they compelled somehow? He liked Humans, and he would give his life for Ben, but they were a curious race indeed. Shifting to a different topic, Sanok became more serious. "How are you feeling? Are you all right?" Sanok did not say it specifically, but he was thinking about the wedding and how Ben might be feeling over missing Marah. Ben's momentary lightheartedness faded quickly at the question. He knew Sanok wasn't asking how he felt physically, but mentally. "I miss her, Sanok. The past week has done nothing but deepen that feeling," Ben replied. "It's as if a piece of me were missing. There are times I envy Vulcans." Sanok understood. He had lived most of his life with his emotions, and he knew how hard they get hit. He wanted to tell Ben about his investigation into trying to locate Marah, but because he hadn't obtained any solid leads yet, he felt he should wait. Knowing Marah could be in the hands of the Orion Syndicate, could cause Ben to run off and try to save her. Normally, it would be worth to him to end his Starfleet career if it resulted in saving Marah, but without a solid place to begin the search, Sanok would just need to be patient. "Do not give up hope, Ben. We will find her someday. You have my pledge on that." Ben almost laughed at the mention of giving up hope. There were times he felt that hope was the only thing that kept him sane. He had met Marah simply by chance. It had been Sanok's idea to go to Axtis III for some R&R. Ben met Marah at a bonfire, so in a way, Sanok was responsible for the meeting and his current feelings of loss. He wouldn't change it now for anything, even considering there were a couple parts of that little bit of shore leave he would just as soon forget. He knew he would find Marah again, and was glad his friend had pledged his help. "Thank you," Ben said. "I appreciate it more then you know, my friend." Ben wondered if there was anything he could have done to prevent what happened. He assumed that his family residence on Earth was safe. He had no reason to think anything would happen to Marah once she arrived there. "I should have been more careful," Ben stated. "There should have been someone waiting for her." "You cannot blame yourself for that," said Sanok. "Earth is the seat of the Federation and is very safe. It would have been illogical to think someone could have kidnapped Marah from there." Ben knew Sanok was right, but it didn't change how he felt. "You'd be surprised how often I tried to convince myself of that," Ben replied. "But you're right, of course. I had no reason to think she'd be in any danger." "No, I would not be surprised," said Sanok. That was all he said, for he knew how emotions could cause a person to blame themselves for something for which they had no reason to be blamed. Arriving at RJs, Sanok stopped before entering. "All we can do, is the best we can do." Ben nodded at the last remark. "Truer words were never spoken," he said as he looked inside RJs. He composed himself for several moments, with his eyes closed to concentrate on a couple quick exercises to clear his mind. He then opened his eyes and raised his arm to gesture towards the entrance. "After you." "Generally," he began, collecting his thoughts as he spoke, "I leave the future up to God. I trust that He has a path for me and that He'll watch over me as I walk it." He looked down slightly. "My mother's death had me questioning that, to be honest. For about a year, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my future, what God's plan was...I started wondering if he even existed at all. But I came to realize that for me, the truth is that He loves me and will guide me through anything that comes my way."
