She smiled and replied "Myra". K'tar actually smiled and replied "Hello Myra". They continued to chat. The human woman, who was still stunned by Fred's comment looked around nervously. Fred paused before asking, "So, what's your name?" She paused, obviously mentally weighing whether or not she should speak. Then said, "My name is Kelli." Fred smiled, "Well hello Kelli, my name is Fred." He held out his hand, presumably to shake, and yet his eyes focused somewhere south of her eyes. Kelly, who was a bit nonplussed by Fred's leer admonished, "I'm up here." "Oh, right..." Fred stammered, then motioned for the Ferengi. "Hey waiter! come here! The Ferengi paused and then trudged over to their table. "Take our picture." He said, handing a device for that purpose. The group composed themselves for a moment and them smiled. The Ferengi took the picture and then handed the device back to Fred. Fred turned to Kelli again, "Any chance I can get a date with you?" Kelli, who by now was obviously tiring of Fred's advances said, "Two chances, and slim just left town." Fred muddled over this for a second. "So...would that be a no?" Sighing loudly, Kelli replied, "That would be a no." Fred nodded slowly then stood up. "Well, chums, I think I'll be going, you guys have fun." He winked at his two SO comrades. He then started fiddling with his picture taking device as he walked away. "I'll just be uploading this picture to construct my new holodeck program if you need me." With that, he left the lounge. "Unfortunate for you Lieutenant that you will not be leaving her till your delivery to court martial." The voice behind her caused her blood to run cold and she almost jumped out of the seat. "How...?" Her phaser was at her belt and her hands on the console, if she made a move she had no doubts she would be stunned into submission, time to play it cool. Andrus smiled as he noted the ruse had worked. He, K'tar and Jones had phasers leveled at her ready to fire. Captain and the former COPS talked. Andrus watched her hand slide to what he was sure was a self destruct circuit. She pushed it and nothing happened. She opened her eyes to see the m stills standing there. Captain Saleke uttered the words Andrus and his troops had been waiting for this this had been discovered. "Security take Ms. Mac Adams into custody." Smiling evilly, the Blue Boliand replied "A pleasure Sir". McAddams sprung a the captain attempting to attack him - the three security officers fired and drop the former Lt before she mad a foot. "K'tar, Jones Take the Lieutenant to the Brig. Have medical check her over". Andrus paused to allow for questions. She had no idea what that meant until today, she had already visited three sites and from the looks of her pad, more were blooming every second. The worst by ray seemed to be engineering. ~I guess we’ll be looking at radiation and thermal burns, mixed liberally with impact and shrapnel injuries. ~ Kimiko continued the thought aloud “Now pay strict attention to the tricorders, if there is a threshold level of radiation, there is to be no treatment in the area and I can’t emphasize that enough, grab them and run. If not act accordantly, but the very second, you hear the alarm, drop everything and leave.” The team entered another compartment, the emergency lights flickered and the stench of smoke and burning insulation was heavy in the air. The doctor motioned for the team to split up and beelined to prone figure in a engineering uniform lying a pool of blood. Kimiko looked at the leg that was amputated at mid-shin. “Its ok, Ensign” she stated more for the other crewman hovering over the woman with a protective aura. “I believe that we will have you up and playing with your spanners in no time.” She looked at the tourniquet made from the crewman’s shirt and glanced at the man and stated “Quick thinking, you may have saved her life. “ Looking back at the ensign, she continued “I am going to remove the shirt and teat the area and get you over to a fine group of doctors to fix you up. She attached a canister to her tricorder and imputed a command. After inserting the canister into an airhypo, she injected a site right above the injury. Kimiko took off the tourniquet and examined the area, nodding in satisfaction, she motioned a nurse over. “I would like you to beam with Ensign Williams” her eyes glanced over to the amputated limb “to sickbay one and hand her off, no other trauma appreciated” and at the nurses’ nod “Thank you” She headed towards a man cradling his head. “Doctor, I need you over here, please” A corpsman called out. Dr Ichijo hurried over to the security officer standing by the kneeling medic. On the ground in front of them, was a crewman, the bluish tinge on his face indicated that the man was having difficulty breathing. “What going on, Mr. Yshao” The Ensign asked as she kneeled beside the gasping man. “I’m really not sure, he said” Yshao jerked his head towards the security officer “that the crewman came in the area after the explosion, was helping to replace a board and then started to have trouble breathing.” He motioned toward the tricorder. “The thing is the I am getting odd growths in his lungs, really strange mineral deposits” Kimiko looked over his shoulder. ~That is the strangest thing that I have seen~ Kimiko thought But something tickled her memory; a story….~Yes, that was it~ Her uncle who was Commander on the medical catastrophic team was relaying a story of unintended consequences of environment and treatment. It seemed that a patient who was under with a strong steroid treatment got crossways with a unique atmosphere of a visiting surgeon, from the recollection of her uncle, the poor man turned purple for a month. ~ It was actually more of a light blue~ Kimiko had looked the story up and during the search came across an article. It began with a subject under breathing treatment for a nasty local parasite that took residence in his lungs; then he was exposed to Caliam and Fosime gas that was a byproduct of a plasma suppression agent. The reaction of the medicine and the gasses created the same crystallization that Kimiko was looking at right now. ~This is why people that are receiving that particular treatment are not allowed down here within forty-eight hours of treatment. ~ Unfortunately the standard of care required a minimal of about thirty surgical hours, partial to full cardiac bypass and was quite beyond the resources available currently or for the immediate future. The idea that she had, would cause several teachers hair to gray and probably get her dragged in front of a medical ethics board so fast that her caduceus would not catch up with her butt bounced off the pavement outside the licensing board. ~well this is what I signed up for.~ “Well Crewman…” she consulted her tricorder. “Taggart, due to the negative interaction between trace elements in the air and the medication, your lungs have been compromised, I have a treatment that I believe that is your best opportunity for survival, but even with this treatment that odds are fifty percent chance and even if it works, cure will be very painful. It will be as if breathing the Oni’s own flame and any anesthesia will compromise the regimen.” She looked at the terrified expression on the man’s face. “I am sorry to present it so brief and blunt, but there is not a lot of time, do you consent?” There was a pause and Taggart nodded. “Okay, you will need to take a deep breath and to get maximum exposure, a drug will make you feel as if you are hyperventilating, but I will make you as safe as I can.” “I need a aerosol of .01 mml per kilo, make that .8 mml of Nasina mix with about 1mml of Epinephrine per 100ml of eighty percent O2” Kimiko calculated The man reacted almost immediately as the mask went on, his spine bowed and he clutched for the mask, as his face contorted in pain. “I am truly sorry but we need to keep that on for at least twenty minutes” Dr Ichijo looked at the corpsmen. “I need him to be transported to sickbay one” Kimiko took a deep sigh”…in restraints, and attached to dialysis for the duration, will you be able to get that done for me?” Yshao soberly nodded. “Thank you, if anyone asks then direct them to me” Kimiko says The expression on Yshao’s face didn’t leave any doubt that that was exactly what he would do. As the pair disappeared in the brightness of a teleport, Kimiko turned somewhat ready for the next trama. (Reply any in medical IYW) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious- Bridge - CO, Captain Saleke - Day 11- 1207) The quantum torpedoes slammed into the ISS Rosenante's shields with brilliant explosions as the phasers cycled and another beam cut into the same area with pinpoint accuracy. The Furious took return phaser fire as well that splashed against the ships forward shields with a corona of brilliant light that caused the smaller ship to shudder in response. "Forward shields down to sixty percent Captain!! I've got damage to the Navigational deflector." Cooper called. "Vertical roll." Saleke ordered and the Furious turned upward and rolled her forward shields away from the mirror universe ship, the next volley of return fire cut into the shielding in the smaller ships belly as the forward shields began regenerating. The phaser strip on the lower saucer section replying in kind. The Furious shook from the attack. "Their shields are taking a beating Captain." Holis called from Science 1. "Down to 30 percent. Starboard hull amidships is weakening " "Keep the pressure on them." The vulcan called to tactical. "When the rear tubes come about launch torpedoes." "Aye sir." The officer answered. "I'm giving them everything we've got." The Mirror Universe Rosenante was a powerful battelship and perhaps stronger pound for pound than anything the Federation had but the combined attacks of the Rosenante and Furious were wearing the ship down. The tactical officer on the enemy ship was also very good but couldn't hit all four targets at once hence the vulcans decision to go to Tri Vector mode. Eventually the ship would fall but Saleke knew if they could bring the Omega device to bear they would launch it which would force his hand, the Furious would be forced to break off the attack leaving the USS Rosenante alone. "Status of the USS Rosenante." "They're taking significant damage." Holis answered. "They can't take the pounding on their forward shields much longer." "Where is Ensign Benoit?" "In the labs working on the problem of the Omega device and its Paratrinic shielding Captain." Holis answered. A lot was riding on the shoulders of the young science officer, it was of paramount importance that the Omega device should it be launched have its weaknesses exposed so that it could be dealt with. Should it be allowed to gain its objective the loss of the Furious and Rosenante was of minimal import, far more devestating would be the loss of the Sunali system and it's five billion inhabitants not to mention the visiting ships and their crews that were huddled on the surface of the various planets out of harms way and the damage to the Federation from the economic and military repercussions. The Furious and Rosenante were expendable, this solar system was not. The ship rocked from another attack as the aft of the saucer section came around and the shudder of torpedo launches rippled through the bridge. "Give me visual." Saleke ordered." The viewscreen switched to the aft and the comet like streaks of the torpedoes cut across space to impact against the starboard shielding of the ISS Rosenante. The torpedoes one by one unleashed their destructive fury along the side of the powerful ship this time as their shielding was overloaded. Debris rocketed from the side of the larger craft as the explosions of the torpedoes forced their way through the weakened protection. "Cycle aft phasers." Kenunga was already firing, the stream of phaser energy slicing through the weakened shielding and into the ablative armor which vaporized in response. The attacks were taking their toll. Another phaser lanced from the Rosenante and into the aft shielding. The Furious rocked from the pounding as the attack was repeated. A damage alert began sounding on the bridge, "Helm hard turn to port, bring our bow to bear." Saleke ordered. "Forward shields only at seventy three percent Captain." Cooper reported. "Torpedoe tube four is out and the lower shuttle bay has been hit." Saleke nodded in reply, another salvo of quantum torpedoes was coming up which would tear once again into the side of the larger craft, the damage they would deal would be significant but there was still the Omega device to consider. (Reply: any) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Bridge – CO- Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid (MU)- Day 11 -1225) "Mister Nayati, finish the roll and close distance to the Furious. Full impulse." Jon’s strong but nimble fingers were moving again, even as he spoke. “Course corrected, as ordered, Captain. We’ve screwed the first star ship, shall we rape the second.” Ahmed's eyebrow raised as he considered the words issued by his third in command. His smile spread as he considered the humiliation and punishment he was about to met out to his enemies. "By all means." he answered simply. The Rosenante rushed forward, the almost insignificant prime universe version sniping shots at her heels like a cowardly scavenger. Ahead the Furious awaited, seeming all the more vulnerable because it hadn't deployed into Tri-vector mode. "Mister Smith, increase power to forward and rear shields." he ordered as they closed into weapons range. (reply Smith) “Next target selection, Captain?” Jon asked. And for a brief moment Ahmed was tempted to deride the intrusion, but for the moment he let it go. "Sullivan, Keep that pathetic excuse for this universe's Rosenante busy. Temerarious, focus on the Furious and fire!" (reply Sullivan, Raschen) For a short while the Rosenante's superior range allowed Salid to pound the Furious with phaser fire, sending a cascade of violent colors skittering across their forward shields. They were taking a beating and with just a little more effort the forward shields on the Prometheus class would collapse and The Rosenante would be free to deal with their counterpart. But things have a strange way in conflict of not going exactly as planned. With the USS Rosenante hard to aft port and pouring phaser and torpedo fire into her from that angle and then a sudden separation of the previously whole Furious into three segments, Ahmed realized that fate was taking her toll for his arrogance. One element of the Furious cut upwards across their bow headed for the ventral section of the ship. The other two cut hard to the starboard. His Rosenante rattled to her very core as weapons fire from the ships met and splashed off shields in a dazzling display of colors. A series of powerful phaser shots spread out from the Imperial starship like the petals of a deadly flower opening. Blasts reached out slamming into the Furious, Vigilant and Courageous, causing the dorsal shield on the Courageous to fail from the repeated pounding. He watched with a sadistic smile as his phaser banks cut a long jagged scar across the smaller ship's belly, spiraling to the left as the ship rolled away in a desperate effort to get her port side shields between the two ships. "Damage report?" He asked. (reply Smith) "Notify Rixx." he ordered. (reply Smith) Meanwhile a stream of rapid phaser blasts began chewing their way though his aft vetral shields. Already weakened from the constant pressure of the Federation's Rosenante and exasperated by the maneuvers of the courageous, the shields sputtered for a moment and died allowing the ship's phasers to rip into the ablative armor surrounding the base of the warp pylons. "Quantum Torpedoes! Full Spread now!" he ordered. "severe damage to Main engineering." Someone reported. A stream of torpedoes left the ship's launchers and streamed towards his tormentor. They slammed home one after the other, exploding in a brust of violent blue motes that reverberated across the ship's shields. That ship's shield's buckled under the abuse and two of the torpedoes slammed into the saucer, ripping massive holes through the structure. Salid smiled, it was a wicked smile. He'd landed a nasty blow, one that would leave the enemy vessel vulnerable to follow-up. The Rosenante broke position, angling to port. ~He's running~ Ahmed thought. ~What a coward.~ he could barely contain the contempt that he felt. Even pulling away from his vessel, the Federation vessel continued to slam phaser fire into the Imperial ship's flank. They may be cowards, but they were persistant cowards. Ahmed turned his attention back to the swarm of smaller ship's that had been the Furious. He watched as his tactical team slammed weapons fire into the two smaller ships. Now was the perfect time to have his revenge. If he understood these people as well as he thought he did, when the Omega weapon was launched they'd break off their attack in a futile effort to prevent the needless deaths of the inhabitants of this pathetic star system. They'd race after the weapon and closer to their own deaths while he would maneuver his ship to a safer distance and prepare to jump from the system. The ship rocked and a shower of sparks, metal fragments and polylaminate showered him as one of the consoles behind him exploded. "Evasive maneuvers!" the captain ordered. He needed to destroy the Furious. The ship's were becoming quite an irritation. (reply Nayati) Then suddenly the Courageous disintegrated in a cloud of ionized gas and energy. It had been sudden and there had been no reason for such a sudden demise. The only likely explanation was that the ship's warp core had lost containment. The shockwave rattled his ship to the deck plates but Ahmed managed to stay seated although the ship pitched terribly as she crested the energy wave. "Arm the Omega Device." he ordered as Nayati regained control of the vessel. Benoit had joined them on the bridge at some point, and the captain gave him a warning glance. (reply Benoit) "Bring the molecule up to harmonic strength." The captain ordered again. (reply Benoit) As before Ahmed selected the Sunali star as the weapon's target. Immediately upon launch it's automated systems would engage the command override and nothing short of it's destruction would prevent it from reaching it's target. "Launch the weapon!" The brilliant globe spun from the launch tube and immediately activated it's paratrinic shields. The master computer enaged the device's drives and accelerated the doomsday weapon to half impulse. At that speed, it would reach it's target in forty minutes. (reply Furious, All MU Crew) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Bridge – ACSO Ensign Benoit (MU)- Day 11 -1226) Benoit had managed to enter the bridge and stand around, without anyone saying anything for a few precious minutes before the Captain yelled, "Arm the Omega Device." Benoit all but ran to the science station an hurriedly tapped in the appropriate codes. He could feel the Captain's stare burning into him. "The Omega device and shield are armed and ready sir." His voice cracked a little. "Bring the molecule up to harmonic strength." The captain ordered again. Benoit simply nodded and continued tapping. He looked up, took a breath and said, "The device is ready for launch, sir." As before Ahmed selected the Sunali star as the weapon's target. Immediately upon launch it's automated systems would engage the command override and nothing short of it's destruction would prevent it from reaching it's target. "Launch the weapon!" The brilliant globe spun from the launch tube and immediately activated it's paratrinic shields. The master computer engaged the device's drives and accelerated the doomsday weapon to half impulse. At that speed, it would reach it's target in forty minutes. Benoit was not an especially religious man, but some of the old prayers Sister Ignatius had taught him when he was a child, in a parochial school in rural Louisiana, now came back to him. He began to mutter the Our Father, after a few repetitions, he threw in a Hail Mary. Robert grinned. “Yes Captain.” He quickly accessed the shields systems. “Next target selection, Captain?” "Sullivan, Keep that pathetic excuse for this universe's Rosenante busy. Temerarious, focus on the Furious and fire!" Robert was working hard trying to keep all the metaphorical balls in the air at once with out causing a major power drain or overload. For a short while the Rosenante's superior range allowed Salid to pound the Furious with phaser fire, sending a cascade of violent colors skittering across their forward shields. Plasma conduits on deck 8, 9, 10 starboard side have ruptured I am sealing off the area now.” "Notify Rixx." he ordered. “Yes captain.” Robert quickly did as he was ordered carried on with his juggaling act as he half watched the battle playing out in front of him. Meanwhile a stream of rapid phaser blasts began chewing their way though his aft vetral shields. The brilliant globe spun from the launch tube and immediately activated it's paratrinic shields. The master computer enaged the device's drives and accelerated the doomsday weapon to half impulse. At that speed, it would reach it's target in forty minutes. ~What are you going to do about that then~ (reply any) (posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge – CO- Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 11 -1228) The exchange between the ships was brutal. phaser blast after phaser blast was exchanged in some brutal slugging match that had little tactical benefit. The Imperial Universe ship seemed to be more powerful than his own Rosenante. Perhaps they had completed their original construction to full specs, which was now proving to be an instrumental advantage for them. Ahmed knew that no matter what, he could not back down from this fight. Everything that he was and everything that he and his crew believed in, had fought for and bled for was on the line. It was beyond their needs, beyond even the needs of the Sunali. The task before them was nothing less than impossible. And so Ahmed focused on a single aspect of the events around him. He picked one goal and galvanized his will to its achievement. He would not fail. He was knocked from his seat by a ragged explosion, which had turned out to be a good thing as a moment later a support strut collapsed from the ceiling trailing a jungle of cables and conduits. The strut crushed his chair and struck him on the right shoulder blade, shattering it and driving him to the ground. It was only bay a twist of fate that the same strut had missed Caskie, and had somehow also managed not to pin him to the floor. He half- crawled out from under the obstacle and looked up in time to see the stream of quantum torpedoes inbound. "Brace for!" he managed, before they slammed into the front of the ship, delivering their explosive power first to the ship's shields and them punching two massive holes through the ship's saucer section. Ensign Midas was killed instantly as his console overloaded. The shrapnel peeled the skin from his face as the plasma flash -cooked his flesh. Thick acrid smoke rose from a variety of damaged consoles. Adding a burnt taste to the air and adding to the illusion of hell that had once been his bridge. The captain pushed himself up into a sitting position and motioned with his good arm. "Take the helm." he managed through gritted teeth. Already the Rosenante was sliding away from the imperial starship. "Keep firing." he added with a gasp of pain. (reply Sullivan, Any on Bridge) Then every working console suddenly changed. The symbol of the Greek Omega suddenly sprung to life on every console and Ahmed knew what that meant. For a few moments as Saleke and he cleared the alert, both Federation ships were helpless. He struggled to his feet, and forced his body to answer to his brain. Four painful steps later, he had reached the tactical Two station and motioned the officer manning it away. Only a Federation starship captain had the override codes to negate the Omega Directive Lockout. And Ahmed was feverishly working to release his ship's help and operational control so that they could continue to function. The Omega symbol disappeared from the displays and suddenly the crew of the Rosenante were once again in command of their vessel. He looked to Caskie, "What's our status?" he asked. (reply Caskie) He knew from the look in her eyes that it wasn't good. He took a sharp painful breath. Another console exploded. "Captain, I got an idea!" Raschen shouted. Ahmed gave him the nod, indicating he should speak. The captain was finding it a bit difficult to speak without causing himself a lot of pain. "There is one front we haven't attacked yet sir." Another series of impacts warned Ahmed that time was of the essence. The Imperial starship was turning towards them even as the Furious was moving to pursue the Omega Device. "get on with it Lieutenant." Ahmed snapped partially in pain and partly from a desire to not waste time. Raschen got to his feet, holding his left shoulder which had been dislocated, he looked at his skipper and stated "His pride sir. As a privateer in the Fed-Car war, military commanders would get peeved when they found out their butt was being handed to them, not only by a civilian, but a 'kid' at that. If you were this guy." he stated as he jabbed his thumb toward the main viewer ".what would be a bigger kick in the teeth than to know that a couple of junior officers and some NCOs were more than holding their own against you and your commissioned officers?" Ahmed looked at Caskie then back to Raschen. "You want to goad him into a mistake?" He asked simply, realizing that it may well work. "How?" "Sir, the auxiliary bridge is fully operational; leave me up here with Lieutenant Jackson with a bunch of NCOs and crewmen, we can hold things together from up here till you get down there and resume command. Well; what do you think?" Ahmed shook his head, much to his dismay and replied, "It would never work, no bodies. But if you went down to the Auxiliary bridge and worked from there claiming the main bridge is knocked out it might work. If you can get him to within transporter range. He quickly patted his smouldering uniform and went back to his station. The Rose was getting a pounding from there evil twin but there were not going to go down with out a fight. He ducked involuntarily as a huge explosion sounded through the bridge. He glanced around quickly to see the Captain nearly pinned to the floor by a bulk head and the nasty demise of Ensign Mides. “No amount of therapy is going to get this worked out.” He muttered to him self. "Robbie, take over OPS" “Yes Boss.” Robert dashed from his station as he saw Jackson take the Helm. As he slid behind the Ops console he realised that they were in a far nastier shape then he had thought. His fingers dance over its surface as he tried to draw power extra power to the stricken systems. ~Join the fleet see the galaxy. If you can get him to within transporter range; I'll be able to end this battle once and for all." Ahmed took a deep pained breath. "Get him close enough, let me take care of him and then we'll board the bastard." As the 2 officers stepped out of the lift, Chance called out “Johnny, what’s our status?” The petty officer turned and looked at the two lieutenants and said “Well sir, everything down here is in pretty good shape. I have routed everything through the number 3 computer core so as not to accidently interfere with the Main Bridge running off the primary core. We have also re-routed, or just closed out many of the non-essential routines, to the number 3 as well in order to improve computer speed for the Main Bridge.” “Good work, now I want you to start searching our computer banks and find the Command Console Codes for this ship, then sends them up to the skipper on the Main Bridge. Let me know when he gets them.” “Roger that sir.” PO2 Chin said before sitting down at the science station to begin his assignment. Chance turned to Tom and smiled as he made his way over to the command chair as he pointed in Chin’s direction “He was in Operations at one time; when I was just the acting CSEC we found him by accident hacking into BUPERS trying to get 300 more females assigned to the Rose. I stole him from Ops and now he heads up the Cyber-Security Squad.” (Reply Jackson) “So Mr. Jackson; are you ready to play First Officer?” Chance asked as he sat himself down in the command chair. (Reply Jackson) (Reply Jackson) Posted by Charlie --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge – FO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 11 -1233) With all that was going on Josh was determined not to steal a glance at her counterpart whilst the two Captains were talking, but she simply could not help it. Looking up she could see her sitting in the background. An identical twin to herself in all but uniform. The same face, the same hair, the same calm demeanour, but if you looked closely a slight hardening around the mouth and a different look to the eyes. As she stared at her, her counterpart looked up at her and their eyes locked. Determined not to look away first Josh stared back and raised an eyebrow. Her double simply shook her head and smiled. Josh did not like that smile. It spoke of too many things done that should not have been, too many compromises made that should not have been made and a life lived simply for personal gratification and self service rather than the greater good. Finally the alternate Captain cut the link and the battle began and Josh became busy updating Captain Salid on what was happening with the ship and making sure that the Rose stayed in one piece. However their nemesis had decided that they were not going to make it easy for them and as round after round of torpedoes and phaser fire slammed into the ship, eventually something gave. Almost half of the ceiling above the command chairs collapsed and it was only by sheer luck that both she and the Captain were not seriously injured. As Josh picked herself up from the floor she immediately gazed around the bridge. It was a disaster. Whole sections had collapsed and she was pretty sure that she could hear the slow underlying hiss of a small rupture somewhere near her. She could see the Captain finally pick himself up from the floor and start giving orders and as various people rushed around trying to comply she hit her comm badge. "Caskie to Sickbay. We need a medical team on the bridge now. We have multiple serious injuries that need treated stat." (Reply Sickbay) "Liaise with Ops and try to have them beam your team here rather than make your way through the ship. We need help as soon as possible." (Reply Sickbay) Josh ran across and hauled open the panel that housed the emergency medical kit on the bridge and crossing back to the Captain she managed to give him a dose of the minor pain inhibitor that the kit had. Making sure that the Captain was as well as he could be Josh began moving round the rest of the bridge crew, checking on their status and making sure that they were ok. Just as she was about to reach Midas every single working console on the ship began flashing the same symbol. Three months ago Josh would not have know what it meant, but after the Captain's briefing it was all to clear to her. Their counterpart had launched the Omega Device towards this system's sun and they now had less than an hour to either disable or destroy it. She could see the Furious peel away from the battle to chase the torpedo and Josh swallowed. It was up to the Rose and the Rose alone to take on their alter ego and bring it down. She watched a Salid hauled himself up to the secondary Tactical Station and managed to clear the alert allowing them control of the ship again. "What's our status?" he asked. Josh shook her head. "It's not good. We have lost our warp core, we have multiple hull breaches, we have serious casualties, and the Furious has lost one part of it's trivector mode to fire from our adversary." As you know the Omega device has been launched and the Furious has peeled off to deal with that. We are on our own with regards to our adversary." Raschen finally butted in and came up with his own idea, however the Captain dismissed it somewhat but turned it around and began issuing orders again. He looked at Caskie again. "The Command Console codes." he said simply. Caskie simply nodded and crossed back to her chair, or what was left of it at least. Accessing the terminal she inputted the command codes for her Rose in the hope that they would be the same ones for their adversary. Organising an uplink to the other ship she finally sent the command codes and accessing the shields she ordered them down. She didn't wait to see them fall but simply ordered Tactical to open fire. (Reply everyone) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Science Lab 1 - Science Officer - Ensign Andrew Maddox (MU) - 1236) Andrew monitored the battle from his station in the science lab. Since the beginning of the Terran Empire people like Andrew were considered second class citizens. Those who were mild mannered or polite or meek in anyway were preyed upon by their more aggressive ship mates. Only his superior intellect allowed him to join the fleet and be ' of use'. Despite being probably the most capable intellect on the ship, he was stuck here at some minor posting, on an impressive ship, but still a minor posting. He could be running engineering or operations. ~'Tis better to reign in hell then serve in heaven.~ he mused to himself. The battle was an opportunity to show the Captain what he could do. Captain Salid believed in him. He told him that much himself. He had said, "Andrew, I need you here, on my ship, but you must not ever tell anyone what you are, or they will become jealous and try to take you away and make you a slave or even destroy you." From that point forward, he did what ever the captain had asked of him, sometimes it involved betraying other crew members, other times spying on them and reporting on their activities, and still others using his abilities as an artificial life form in ways to only benefit the captain. Every time however, someone spent some time in the pain booth, or they were never seen again. To perform these functions, the captain gave him access that no one save the command crew had, and also a way for only the captain to check on his where abouts or activities. "Computer initiate security lock out of this compartment, authorization, Maddox-two-seven-gamma-epsilon." he ordered. [Lock out complete.] Now no one would be able to disturb him. Andrew opened a secret compartment in his work station. He grabbed the isolinear optical cable he kept there for just this situation. He opened a compartment near the occipital region with a complex tactile code. He locked the cable into the jack that was revealed and accessed the ISS Rosenante's computer. Information flowed freely between the powerful juggernaut and Andrew's positronic brain. [Access granted.] Knowing the Captain the way Andrew did, he would want to take out the other Rose himself. That left the Furious for his nefarious deed. He looked at the transponder code of the Furious. The Furious was not one, but THREE ships. ~Interesting. The advantages of a galaxy class taken to the next logical step.~ Having a ship's compliment split between three vessels would lower the total capabilities of each yet give one ship the capabilities of a small flight of vessels made it a formidable weapon. Taking out such a mighty foe with his intellect and abilities, and the Captain will surely make him a department head. He chose one of the vessels with a warp drive at random. It was called the Courageous. Andrew thought about the vessel's name he wondered to him self, would her crew face their death's courageously? As soon as he made contact through the enemy's transponder, he set to work. His mind's many tendrils moved apart the ship's code like curtains. Using blatantly obvious attacks from one of the Rose's computer cores as a distraction, it didn't take much effort to get inside. Andrew worked with speed and alacrity that no human could match. Though some data morsels and bits of information were tempting, there was only one way he was sure to win the captain's favor. Working his way through the code, he moved stealthily from system to system, until he made it to their computer core. That got their attention. (Reply Courageous Ops or Engineering) He locked out the main computer core with fractal encryption code, making it nearly impossible to break. (Reply Courageous Crew) He began taking over the vessel's systems one by one. He got control of Engineering and Communications before her crew started fighting back. (Reply Courageous Crew) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Courageous- Deck 12, Primary engineering - ACEO Garen Skolfe - 1237) The Tellarite cursed a blue streak as he switched auxliary power around the mangled circuits on deck 17, the phaser blast taken by the Courageous in the belly had knocked the structural integrity and inertial dampening systems off line for several minutes but he had managed to restore partial power. Now rather than being kicked about like a ******* terran mule the Courageous was merely bucking like a Tellarian Quadjick which come to think of it wasn't much of an improvement. The warp reactors were holding steady as were the offensive systems but shields were being severely taxed. Almost no protection beneath the ship since most of the shield projectors there had become slag and the forward shields at only twenty eight percent. Ventral and port shielding at forty three percent and starboard at sixty percent. Didn't this ******* Commander know how to maneuver properly? "We're fighting a ******* battleship for Blod's bleeding *******." He shouted to no one in particular. The ship shook again from another phaser volley and he was thrown away from the console for a moment, catching himself against a support he fought his way back to it. "That did it!" He snarled and hit his combadge. "Bridge!" (Reply: Erin) "Forward shields are almost gone!" He shouted. "Thirteen percent, one more hit and we're frickin fried. How about fartin' at them for a bit? Aft shields are at eighty two percent. I can hold this **** ship together a bit longer if you'll cut me some slack." (Reply: Erin) "'Bout time." He muttered then remembered he had forgotten to turn off the combadge. "Don't take that as a compliment captain." Having attempted to assuage her ire he then slapped the combadge again and set back to his duties which was to run a diagnostic on the navigational systems since the primary controls were on deck 17 as well. (Reply: Erin) "Looks good, what did I do to deserve that?" He muttered. "Must have had a bad day." He looked at he monitor to his left to check the computer core monitoring system. "Jacko! You stupid arse, get over here!" He snapped. The tech struggled to hold his feet as another hit on the ship rocked it like a leaf in a breeze. "What is it sir?" He panted as he caught himself from pitching forward into the console when the ship regained its equilibrium. "Look at this, this ***** gibberish." The Tellarite snapped. "The core monitors are going ******* crazy!" Some strange symbols were scrolling across the screen. "What the **** is that?" Garen snapped. "I don't know." The computer techs eyes narrowed in puzzlement. "I've never seen it before. Was the monitoring system hit?" The Tellarite threw his arms into the air. "That's why I've got a computer tech in engineering! You tell me Mr. expert!" Jerry shook his head. "I need to check this at the source." "Bright idea sunshine." Garen said sarcastically. "Do I have to write a note to your mommy asking if I can send you?" "I'm on it sir." Jerry replied, he had worked with the Tellarite for several weeks now and was almost getting used to his acid tongue. Grabbing a tool pouch from beneath a cabinet that had miraculously not gotten thrown about the deck he made his way drunkenly along the deck of the pitching vessel to the exit. Garen had no choice but to report this but since the FO was probably still mad at him it should be a lot of fun. "Bridge I'm getting static from the computer core, I have a tech on his way to check the monitoring system. Please try not to turn him into paste against a bulkhead." (Reply: Erin) Grinning he went back to wrestling with the damn computer till it finally went bonkers on him... or rather refused to cooperate. "What the **** **** by Erdrid's **** beard!" He shouted. He tried the sequence again, still nothing. snapping his head back he moved to another control panel, still nothing, a differnt tack then, he tried accessing the warp controls. The ******* terminal still refused to respond to everything he tried. The Tellarites blood ran cold and he slapped the combadge again but this time when he spoke it was a very subdued Garen who spoke, or rathe ra very scared Garen. (Reply by Ops or bridge) (posted by shawn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Bridge - FO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 11- 1240) Josh knew that having Ops beam the medical team to the bridge was probably pushing it big time given what was going on elsewhere on the Rose. But she had made a Command decision on that point and once Josh had made her decision she was very unlikely to back down for anyone. The captain had been seriously injured. Not fatally but enough for Josh to realise that it could compromise the battle they were engaged in if he could not continue. Automatically Josh had started treating the wounded and it wasn't until she had gone round the entire bridge and done what she could she realised that her medical credentials were well out of date and that she did not have authorisation to treat anyone here, since she had not updated them since becoming FO. She had reached Midas when she had realised this. Unfortunately Midas was dead and Josh simply straightened his arms and legs and closed his eyes since there was nothing else she could do for him. She was trying to keep an eye on all of the Bridge Crew, treat them all and make sure that their counterpart did not kick their ass into tomorrow at the same time when Raschen came up with a solution. Whilst the Captain did not entirely agree with it he came up with a variation that made Josh smile. At the same time the Medical team appeared on the Bridge and Josh turned towards them. "I'm glad you are here. The Captain has a fractured collar bone, I think. I have given him 5ccs of the normal painkiller we carry in the emergency bridge kit. He needs to be treated for that, however he needs to be lucid at present, so I would suggest that we do not give him too much more analgesic., There are various fractures, wounds and serious trauma to various other members of the Bridge Crew that were serving on the upper deck since the were all propelled forward during the last attack." Josh lowered her voice and spoke again. "Mr Midas unfortunately is dead. Would you at least be able to remove him from the bridge when you are able. I know you can't right this minute, but when you can spare a team, then please." His eyes stared blankly ahead. His sight was always deactivated, a safety measure so he could process all the raw information and not overload his positronic net. The crew had noticed his work, but not where he had come from yet. Now was the time to move, and move decisively. He ordered the computer to deactivate the weapons. ~That should keep them occupied.~ (Reply Courageous Crew) He then sent Captain Salid a message to his console. [Say good-buy to the Courageous] he sent. (Reply Captain Salid (MU)) He used the consoles in engineering to send an electric charge through all the manned consoles. He assumed it would be enough to at least stun those near the console, but he was no medical officer, it might seriously injure anyone touching the console at that instant. ~That should keep them away from the controls, now for the coup de grace.~ While they were away from the consoles in engineering, Andrew forcibly broke the code at the binary level and set the auto destruct for fifteen minutes, audible countdown every five seconds. Then locked it with a high level encryption. By the time they figured it out the antimatter charges would have reduced them to sub atomic particles. (Reply Courageous Crew) He took the opportunity to gloat. It wasn't often that a mild mannered man got the better of an entire crew in his universe. He used his control of communications so that every audio output on the Courageous output his voice. At the same time they could respond to him, but not communicate to each other through out the ship. "I would like to give my condolences to the lot of you." (Reply Courageous Crew) "Because you should be heading to the escape pods instead of trying to gain control of your ship, but that wouldn't be the Courageous thing to do would it?" he grinned evilly despite the fact that they couldn't see his face. McKittrick and Falken had been sweating 15 long minutes trying to figure out how to deactivate the Omega device and shield, before it destroyed a star, all planets and pretty much everything else in the system, including themselves. McKittrick checked the time, "15 minutes since the Evil Rose launched, looks like we have 25 minutes before detonation." Benoit stood back and vigorously rubbed his face, the spoke. "I put in a back door on the shield system. If I could just communicate with the generators interface, I could turn it off." Falken had already been shaking his head before Benoit had finished. "We've been over that, they obviously anticipated that we might try to communicate with it, so they added all subspace frequencies that the shield blocks out." "Besides," McKittrick chimed in, "Just shutting off the field wouldn't destroy the device." Benoit began to pace, "Okay, we set it to overload, it destroys itself and the Omega device." Falken was stone. "We can't communicate with it. They've blocked all electromagnetic frequencies." Benoit stopped dead in his tracks. "What did you say, Dr. Falken?" Falken repeated, "We can't talk to the thing." Very slowly, a smile began to grow on Benoit's face. "You said, they've blocked all electromagnetic frequencies. But they haven't blocked all of them..." He was now grinning broadly. Falken and McKittrick just looked at each other. Benoit continued, "Light." Falken's eyes were narrowed, but he slowly began to nod. "Yes, you wouldn't be able to see an object behind the force shield. Our sensors wouldn't even detect it, if they blocked all frequencies." McKittrick still looked confused. "That's all well and good, but the communications interface would not respond to light." Benoit cocked his head, "It would if still had the infrared sensor, I attached still connected." Benoit continued, "I installed it when I was running tests back on Hexicor. I wanted to be able to remotely turn the shield on and off and stay outside of it's field." McKittrick took all this in and furrowed his brows until saying, "It could work." Excitedly Falken spoke. "All we would need is one of the ships phasers set to very low power and the exact frequency and..." Benoit interrupted, "...and have it pules my encoded password and kaboom!" Benoit tapped his comm badge. "Benoit to the Bridge. Captain, I think we have a way to stop the Omega device, but I need to borrow control of one of the ships Phasers for 10 minutes." (Reply Captain or Acting CO or any on the Bridge.) "Understood, Benoit out." He broke the comm link. "Okay Steve, calibrate the phaser to emit an infrared pulse and aim it to intersect with the Omega device." Benoit said to Dr. Falken. Falken began furiously tapping on the workstation.
