But now with all of the long term care patients moved over to the larger facilities on the base and most of the minor injuries taken care of, the abandoned sickbay had the look of a ghost town. ~All we need is a few well-placed cobwebs and maybe a tumbleweed, no that’s not right cobwebs definitely~ Kimiko walked past the several beds and arrived at full support bed number five, this was where the doctor officially lost her first patient. She had seen death before and had people die in her presence before. But this was hers; the young crewman on his first cruise had caught several pieces of shrapnel. ~We got him here alive and connected to the best medical equipment that Starfleet has to offer, and still he dies.~ Kimiko stared at the bed, recalling every decision with the perfect acuity of hindsight. The bit in the neck turned out to be lodged firmly in the muscle of the neck, dangerous of course, but not nearly as dangerous as the smaller one just a hairbreadths away from his femoral artery. ~by the time that he started to go, there was not anything that I could do except watch, there was just too much damage~ Her memory tortured her with procedure after procedure that possibly could have saved him if she could have thought enough to quit standing there with her finger in the dike and act like a real doctor. The doctor notice that she was falling into the familiar cycle of brooding and knew that there was not anything productive that could be produced from that. She pulled out her pad at reviewed the multitude of pre/post checklists. ~This should keep my mind where it should be~ (Reply any IYW) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Sick Bay - Chief Field Medic - SCPO Nathan A. Fuller - 1305) Nate came around the corner carrying the PADD with the completed inventories from all the triage centers. He saw one of the new Physicians looking rather melancholy and spending more then a fleeting moment around one of the beds, she gazed at it with what looked like to Nate a thousand meter stare. ~Must have had something bad happen here, loose a patient perhaps?~ "Something on your mind, ma'am?" Nate asked, genuine concern in his words. (Reply Dr Ichijo) NRPG: The first stage of loss is denial, assuming she follows that and decides to try to hide or dismiss it. "Can't fool me Ma'am, been in the 'Fleet for pro'bly longer then you've been alive, I've seen a lot of loss and something is definitely troubling you. You want to talk about it?" (Reply Dr. Ichijo) (Posted by Todd) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Sick Bay – Combat Nurse E’Mpak- 1306) Sickbay was quiet it which made E’Mpak happy. It had been a long trip back and now that the critical cases had been transferred to ITU and HDU. She had seen Fuller around doing some inventorying. When he had finished she might go and ask him if he wanted a drink. As she walked back into main sickbay from on of the surgical bays she saw Fuller. ~no time like the present~ As she got closer she realised that he was speaking to Dr Ichijo the new doctor. "Something on your mind, ma'am?" From the way Dr Ichijo look E’Mpak could see something was wrong. She did not catch what Ichijo said but Fuller’s reply her suspicions. "Can't fool me Ma'am, been in the 'Fleet for pro'bly longer then you've been alive, I've seen a lot of loss and something is definitely troubling you. You want to talk about it?" E’Mpak moved away to another part of sickbay and caught a crewman who was moving over to Fuller. “What is it crewman?” The crewman looked at her. “I have this status report for Chief Fuller to sigh Sir.” E’Mpak nodded and glanced over at Fuller who was talking to Ichijo. ~This is something that can wait~ “I will sign it crewman. The Chief is a bit caught up at the moment.” She took the PADD the crewman handed to her and she authorised it. “Um there was something else I needed to talk to the chief about sir.” E’Mpak nodded. “Well you can tell me over here.” She ushered the crewman away from Fuller and Ichijo. She had had this type of conversation after her first mission as a combat nurse. It was not something that needed to be interrupted with unimportant things. When they were out of ear shot of Fuller and Ichijo she turned to the crewman. “What is the problem Crewman?” “We have had reports that some of the tricorders in triage and the medical bays have been going wrong. I need authorisation to get new chips from stores so that I can recalibrate them.” “How far out were they.” “Ten percent on the vital sign’s as well as on the ABGs, U+E and LFTs.” E’Mpak thought for a moment. ~This is not good at all~ “Get the tricorders sorted first. we need then calibrated correctly.” “Yes Sir.” E’Mpak watched as the crewman hurried away. She took one more glance at Fuller and Ichijo and got back to her work. (reply any) (posted by Robbie) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Sick Bay - ACMO –Esn Kimiko Ichijo - 1307) Kimiko lowered that padd and looked at the bed one last time to see if this time she could banish the demon of self doubt. "Something on your mind, ma'am?" Nate asked, genuine concern in his words. Kimiko looked up from the bed, the padd in her hand forgotten. She saw the chief. “Umm, no I, uh was thinking about the … umm “ The doctor looked at the padd “Inventory of tricylic metaphase alkaloids….” She paused and raised an eyebrow “humm” and shrugged. "Can't fool me Ma'am, been in the 'Fleet for pro'bly longer then you've been alive, I've seen a lot of loss and something is definitely troubling you. You want to talk about it?" “Not much to talk about” Kimiko replied, just a little guarded as she saw crewman approach. “just woolgathering” (Reply Fuller) Kimiko noticed that the crewman was intercepted by a M’Epak. She turned her attention to Fuller. “I was thinking about one of the patients that was brought in on one of my ER rotations, he had massive trauma to head and trunk, lost twenty-three liters of blood and had died once in the field and twice on the table, but yet six weeks later, the gentleman is celebrating his birthday with his wife, at home, none the worse for wear.” Kimiko paused, her eyes drifting back to the bed “And, now we have a man that was brought in conscious and in relatively good spirits, he dies from a handful of metal fragments. “ Kimiko stops and takes a deep breath and stated, flippantly “I guess we can’t save them all.” (Reply Fuller) “I know, but perhaps this issue can be address best by saki, at least today” The doctor smiled “I believe that most of the immediate needs of the department are taken care of and what is left can be for after leave. If you’re interested, after shift?” (Reply Fuller) “Well, duty beckons. “ Kimiko turns back to Chief Fuller “Thanks for….everything” Kimiko saved the file on her padd and cleared it in anticipation of a new case. (Reply Fuller) (Posted by Jack) -------------------- (Starbase Geneva, Cooridor, ACSO- Ensign Benoit, Day 1, 1308) Ensign Benoit stared at the Rosenante through the window. There was nothing more majestic, than seeing a large starship docked, to give perspective on just how massive they are. ~You forget how big they are when your stuck inside.~ He grimaced and rubbed his forehead. ~If I could just get rid of this bloody headache.~ Benoit, or Banjo as he was know by, had already reported for duty on the Rose and been assigned a duty station and quarters. He had just turned to get on a shuttle to go aboard when he heard a familiar voice behind him. "Hey Piccolo! Is that you?" A burly security officer bellowed. Benoit froze, then slowly turned around. Years of suppressed memories from school as a teenager, flooded his mind. ~Surely not...It couldn't be...~ But when he saw the speaker, he knew it must be. "Fred Jones." He spoke, his voice cracked a bit. Fred smiled and nodded, "Long time, no see." "Well, a security officer...on which ship?" He asked, dreading the answer. "I'm on the Furious." Fred replied. "Oh! That's great!" Benoit replied a little too enthusiastically. "So, what ship are you on, Piccolo?" Fred asked. "Rosenante...and that's 'Banjo'." Benoit corrected. "Oh right...Banjo...hey, didn't I give you a wedgie, when we went to school?" "On multiple occasions." Benoit replied a bit bitterly. "No, but I gave you a 'Warp 9' wedgie once, I think your underwear ripped." Fred said. "Yes, I seem to recall that one." Benoit's breathing was a bit more rapid. "While I was talking...at a podium...in front of the entire student body." Benoit paused, then said, "I was running for class president....obviously I lost..." He was glaring at Fred now. Fred continued, oblivious to Benoit's non-verbals. "Who was that girl you were sweet on? Amanda something?" Fred paused to contemplate. "Wasn't she sitting on the front row." "Okay, I gotta go!" Benoit interrupted quickly. "Got to unpack my stuff on board ship, great seeing you again." He almost began running away. "Hey, I'm on leave, why don't you show me around your ship?" Fred asked. Benoit stopped cold. "Uh...Uh...I don't think..." "Oh look an available shuttle." Fred entered the shuttle. "Hey Oboe! What are you waiting for." Benoit was defeated. He entered the shuttle rubbing his head. The shuttle took off heading for the Rose. Benoit was still messaging his temples. "I think I need to go to sickbay first." "Great!" Said Fred. "Maybe there will be some cute Doctors." (Reply none.) (Posted by Morgan Belcher) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Sick Bay - Chief Field Medic - SCPO Nathan A. Fuller - 1309) “Not much to talk about” Kimiko replied, just a little guarded as she saw crewman approach. “just woolgathering” "Woolgathering, I see..." he said, as her Klingon shipmate ushered the med techs off so the Doctor and he could speak a little more privately. Once they were out of earshot, she continued. “ Kimiko stops and takes a deep breath and stated, flippantly “I guess we can’t save them all.” "But, ma'am even if we can't save them all you can't ever think like that. I haven't saved everyone either, but do you want to know how I deal with it?" he asked rhetorically. "Each and every time I give everything I got to do the most good for the most people, with the resources I have. Triage, day one of paramedic school, I'm pretty sure they covered it in medical school too. The only way I regret anything is if I didn't give it all I had." “I know, but perhaps this issue can be address best by sake, at least today” The doctor smiled “I believe that most of the immediate needs of the department are taken care of and what is left can be for after leave. If you’re interested, after shift?” "Absolutely, I can invoke a Japanese tradition. Which if I'm not mistaken, if one shares sake with their boss, anything they say while inebriated can't be used against them at work. I'm actually looking forward to that one." he said with a grin. Well, duty beckons. “ Kimiko turns back to Chief Fuller “Thanks for….everything” "It was my pleasure, see you tonight then." Fuller said as Ichijo went off to see patients, hopefully in better spirits. ~It's time to see if this party can get a little bigger.~ "M’Epak, hey, what are you doing tonight?" Nate said with a grin. (Reply M'Epak) (Posted by Todd) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Sick Bay – Combat Nurse E’Mpak - Day 1- 1313) The self test on one of the bio-beds had reported a fault. E’Mpak had decided to get a better idea what the problem was before she called engineering to get some to sort it out as they were very busy working on other parts of the ship. This meant that she was lying on her back half under the bio-bed so that she could track the elusive fault. "M’Epak, hey, what are you doing tonight?" Nate said with a grin. E’Mpak contored her body so that she could look up from under the bio-bed. “Nothing massively important why do you ask?” (Reply Fuller) E’Mpak smiled as she got off the floor. “That would be grate Nathan thank you.” (Reply Fuller) (Posted by Robbie) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, (Docked) Sickbay 1, Ensign (jg) Banjo Benoit, Day 1, 1320) "So, your a Science Officer. That makes sense. I knew there was a reason I made you do my homework." Fred laughed. Benoit's headache had grown exponentially, for the past 20 minutes, listening to the near non-stop ramblings of the security officer. ~At least he hasn't given my a 'Wet Willy'...yet...' Benoit shook his head as he and Fred entered sickbay. Both Fred and his headache were briefly forgotten when he saw the lovely Doctor tapping on her padd. "Hello Doctor, I'm Ensign Benoit, I've been recently transferred to this ship." Benoit held out his hand. (Reply Kimiko) "Most people call me Banjo." Benoit replied. Fred whistled. "Looks like you've got excellent health care on this ship." Benoit's headache immediately returned. "Uh, yeah. Dr. Ichijo, this is Fred Jones, he's a Security Officer on the Furious, which I'm sure he will be returning to any time now." Fred nodded, gazing at the Doctor up and down, not quite making it back to her eyes. "Pleasure to meat ya Doc. If I was stationed on this ship, I hope I'd get sick a lot!" He held out his hand. (Reply Kimiko) "Say Doc, I'm going on shore leave for a few days, what do you say to you, me and a a couple of bottles of Romulan Ale on board the station?" Fred arched his eyebrows. (Reply Kimiko) Benoit rescued Kimiko. "I'm sure the Doctor is busy, they haven't released us for shore leave yet. Besides, I kind of wanted to get some medical advise from her..." Benoit looked at the Doctor. "Sorry to disturb your work, Dr. Ichijo, but I have been suffering from reoccurring headaches for a while now." (Reply Kimiko) Fred shook his head. "Still a wimp huh?" Benoit gritted his teeth and continued, ignoring Fred. "They started after a fight with one of the officers from the ISS Rose back on Hexicor. I'm afraid the fight ended with him playing Rugby with my head." "Kicked your butt, didn't he." Fred quipped. Benoit turned to Fred. "Fred, normally this would be a 'Private' consultation with a Doctor." "Oh, don't worry, I won't tell anyone." Replied Fred. "Fred...could you wait outside, I would like to talk to the Doctor alone, please." Benoit said through clenched teeth. "Oh...I get it, you want a 'Private' conversation with her." Fred made quote signs with his fingers for emphasis. (Reply Kimiko, IYW.) Benoit put a hand over his eyes. "Look Fred, I just want to get something for my headache. Go!" "Okay, okay, I can take a hint. I'll see you outside. By Doc." Fred winked at the Doctor. (Reply Kimiko, IYW.) Fred left the room. Benoit turned back toward the Doctor. The shorter of the two men, the one who appeared to be in pain extended his hand "Hello Doctor, I'm Ensign Benoit, I've been recently transferred to this ship." “It’s a pleasure ensign Benoit, I am Dr Ichijo” Kimiko stated, shaking his hand "Most people call me Banjo." Benoit replied. The stocky ensign whistled. "Looks like you've got excellent health care on this ship." Kimiko blinked at that random comment. “Thank you, we try” the doctor turned back to Banjo and raised an eyebrow . "Uh, yeah. Kimiko waited a moment, torn between being polite and ignoring Benoit’s friend, finally politeness won out and she shook his hand. "Say Doc, I'm going on shore leave for a few days, what do you say to you, me and a couple of bottles of Romulan Ale on board the station?" Fred arched his eyebrows. Kimiko was doing her upmost to avoid wiping her hand on her uniform, replied. “I’m sorry, I don’t drink” (Reply Jones) Benoit rescued Kimiko. "I'm sure the Doctor is busy, they haven't released us for shore leave yet. Besides, I kind of wanted to get some medical advice from her..." Benoit looked at the Doctor. "Sorry to disturb your work, Dr. Ichijo, but I have been suffering from reoccurring headaches for a while now." “Well since my work is looking after the crew of this ship, you are hardly disturbing me” Kimiko said, pointedly ignoring Fred. Fred shook his head. "Still a wimp huh?" Benoit gritted his teeth and continued, ignoring Fred. "They started after a fight with one of the officers from the ISS Rose back on Hexicor. "Fred...could you wait outside, I would like to talk to the Doctor alone, please." Benoit said through clenched teeth. "Oh...I get it, you want a 'Private' conversation with her." Fred made quote signs with his fingers for emphasis. Kimiko was coming to the point of “putting up with just enough of this crap” and started looking for a hypo. Benoit put a hand over his eyes. "Look Fred, I just want to get something for my headache. Go!" "Okay, okay, I can take a hint. I'll see you outside. Bye Doc." Fred winked at the Doctor. Kimiko bit her tongue to avoid saying something intemperate. Fred left the room. “Nurse M’Epak, if that gentleman comes back in would you please alert security” (Reply M’Epak) Benoit turned back toward the Doctor. "I am very sorry for that, Dr. Ichijo." “You know it is often said that one is known by the company one keeps” Kimiko stated while running a scanner around the top of the suffering science officer’s head. “It seems that you have simple concussion, I can apply a low grade sonic treatment to reduce some of the hematoma and a small amount of sedative should clear the rest” (Reply Benoit) NRPG: I know, I’m not being fair Kimiko performed the procedure in silence. "Uh, I don't suppose you like Bluegrass music?" “I am not familiar with that genre” Kimiko said “What is it?” "It's an old form of music dating back several hundred years to the American South." Benoit grinned, warming to his subject. "It's a kind of folk music, which is primarly played on stringed instruments; Guitar, Fiddle...er Violin, String Bass and of course the Banjo." (Reply Kimiko) "That's why I'm called Banjo, it's the instrument I play." Benoit replied. (Reply Kimiko) Fred who seemed to materialize just behind Benoit interrupted. "You ready yet Pal? I'm starving!" Benoit suddenly developed a very pained look in his face, that probably had little to do with his headache. "Fred, look, I've got stuff to do. This was the most recent in a series of meetings with the Star Fleet Intelligence Admiral to once again discuss the findings revealed by the discovery of the Omega Device as well as the conspiracy data that Ahmed and Captain Saleke had brought back after acquiring it from the mirror universe captain of the Rosenante. He'd been sitting there now for nearly a half and hour, and during that time no-one had come in or left the admiral's office. Of course, the captain that was acting as the admiral's aide had been polite enough and had said 'the admiral would see you soon.' Apparently the aide and the Admiral had a completely different definition of the word soon, than did the Captain of the USS Rosenante. But he had come prepared this time, The first few meetings he had sat without anything but the data that he had been sent to discuss. Since then, with an untold number of meetings, discussions and questions, Ahmed had learned to bring along the latest status reports on the Rosenante's repairs and the Furious' refit. Although the latter wasn't within his realm of responsibilities, it was of great personal interest to know exactly how far the refit of that ship had progressed. This was especially important since the only other ship captain that had the data concerning the Omega device and the conspiracy that surrounded it was Captain Saleke. As he reviewed the data again, noting the few new updates on his data flow, he heard the doors to the admiral's office slide open and Ahmed looked up to see another Starfleet admiral exiting the office, followed closely by Admiral Jozel. The unidentified admiral looked at Ahmed once as he came to his feet, before disappearing through the outer doors of the office. "Captain Salid, I'm very sorry to have kept you waiting," the admiral said, as you can see I was caught up in a very important briefing. "Completely understandable Admiral." Ahmed replied. "Come, let's discuss things, shall we?" The Andorian admiral gestured towards his office and Salid gave a small smile and a nod before allowing himself to be ushered into the office. It was a very opulent office, one that spoke of luxury and power. Admiral Jozel had been stationed at Geneva for a couple of years now, and had quite obviously settled into his new role well. "Please have a seat captain, can I get you some Turkish coffee? I understand it is your drink of preference." "Yes please admiral, with goat's milk and honey." Ahmed replied, and your sources are correct as to be expected." As the admiral replicated his requested cup of coffee, he continued to speak, "Well, being in intelligence certainly has it's advantages." he replied with a soft chuckle. The Andorian returned to his desk, bearing the cup of coffee, which he placed in front of Ahmed, before settling into his own seat. "Thank you, sir." The captain replied. "You're quite welcome captain." There was a tense moment or two of silence while Ahmed sipped his coffee. When he looked up from his steaming hot drink, Ahmed noted the Admiral regarding him carefully. "You have some bad news admiral?" the captain asked as he put his cup down, seating it in the saucer with practiced ease. "I wouldn't call it a problem, Captain, but a minor setback." "A setback, how so?" "Well, after careful study and discussion with the Starfleet JAG office, a decision was reached that the data evidence that you recovered from the Mirror Universe Salid is inadmissible." The shock on Ahmed's face must have been apparent. "Inadmissible? it's exceptionally detailed, not to mention very clear. How in the world can you say it's inadmissible." The admiral's antenna twitched before he answered. "We're not saying it isn't accurate, or that it isn't valid in any way, it's just that the JAG office believes the source of the information to be suspect. You acquired the data from a Mirror universe Version of yourself in exchange for the favor of returning them back to their universe." "The JAG Advocate general believes that there is a possible likelihood that the data could have been fabricated." Ahmed's face turned red, "Are you suggesting..?" "No one is suggesting anything of that nature captain. NO one has said that either you or Captain Saleke are complicit in any wrong doing here. In fact they are commending you for your efforts and skill in handling the Omega device before it could destroy the Sunali system." "What they are saying is that the Mirror universe you, has the skill and knowledge to build such a device, which means he may also have other alternate reasons for implicating some of the senior admirals in the fleet. The admirals that are named in the brief are among some of the most important and influential. Intelligence believes that there is a possibility that this could be a means of destabilizing Star Fleet command in an attempt to create a disruption, prior to an invasion by the Imperial Union of Planets." "You've got to be kidding me." Ahmed almost spit out, " How do you expect them to invade us? They couldn't even have gotten home without our help. Besides, even they realize that using the omega device to subdue us would be a big mistake. It would be Mutually assured destruction." The Admiral regarded him for a moment before nodding, "You're right of course, but you're only seeing part of the picture, captain." "Three of the five admirals listed in your, conspiracy have been working on a secret program at the behest of Starfleet intelligence to develop countermeasures against just such an incursion. There are already indications that individuals from the mirror universe have been crossing over and stealing sensitive data in an attempt to shift the course of the war that they are fighting with the Klingon Cardassian union into one more favorable for them." "A Prime example is the ISS Rosenante. We confirmed, through the records that your own Ensign Smith liberated from the Imperial ship that their Rosenante was built from the original plans that were stolen from the federation while it was under the Doenitz Regime. There are strong indications that this sort of spying has been taking pace for some time." "Admiral Heatherby is leading a counter-intelligence unit who is tasked with countering such incursions. Intelligence and the JAG feel that the records may be a very elaborate ruse to simply neutralize those admirals involved with the counter operation and thereby make the task of the Mirror universe Union that much easier to accomplish." Ahmed was nearly bubbling with anger, "So let me get this straight, JAG and Intelligence are willing to ignore the concrete proof that the omega device was being built in our Universe, just because they feel that the data may be nothing more than a plant?" The admiral shook his head. "No of course not, Captain. Intelligence and Starfleet security will be investigating the individual facilities, and the personnel listed in those records. The risk is simply too great to ignore. But at the same time, we can't bring any charges against the conspirators listed in those documents until we can substantiate them independently. The data while helpful is simply not reliable. It will be studied, analyzed and leads will be generated. When we are able to move forward we will do so. If we find proof that the admirals listed are involved, they will be arrested. In the meantime, they will be observed and scrutinized." "And that's it?" Ahmed pressed. "Yes Captain, That's it." "I'm not happy with that answer Admiral. These people are a threat to the United Federation of Planets. Their actions, directly or indirectly have caused a great many deaths..." "So have yours captain. Every time you give an order people can die. Stop being such a hopeless idealist and wake up to the reality of the way things are. There are no black and whites in this universe or in any other for that matter. Sometimes there are shades of gray. If you persist in this investigation, I will have you detained, stripped of your rank and incarcerated for a very long time. Do not interfere with my investigation into this matter, unless you want to spend the rest of your days locked in a penal colony where you only get a simulated sunshine." Ahmed bristled. "I'll take this to your superior." he stated. "Feel free captain, these orders came down to me from my superior. You are hereby under a gag order. You are not to speak of this conspiracy with anyone. Not Saleke, not your crew, not even God. If we find out you've been breaking your orders, there isn't a power short of Q that will be able to help you, do I make myself clear?" "Yes, of course admiral," Ahmed said as he stood. "Will there be anything else, sir?" "There will. You will be required to testify before a tribunal concerning the destruction of the courageous. You are to make no mention of a conspiracy whatsoever." "Are you asking me to lie to an official tribunal admiral?" Ahmed asked his anger still apparent in the timbre of his voice. "Not at all Captain." Admiral Jozel replied, "I am asking you to follow your orders not to discuss the conspiracy that you have started, so as not to compromise my investigation into it's existence and activities. So I am asking only that you omit certain sensitive elements of your testimony in compliance with the safeguarding of the Federations security. Do I make myself clear, Captain Salid?" There was a smugness to the admiral's final statement that was almost threatening. "I understand you Admiral." Ahmed replied, "I may not like what you've ordered, but I understand it." "Then you're dismissed Captain." (USS Rosenante, Bridge, CO- Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 1, 1430) Ahmed stepped onto the bridge, carrying yet another PADD that was provided to him as he arrived. The repairs were going well and Ahmed felt it was now time to give his people time to relax a bit. Commander Caskie was at the center seat and moved to let him have it. He waved her down, indicating that he would not be taking the command of the bridge and issued some orders instead. "Mister Caskie, please arrange for our crew to take some much needed shore leave. Have all department heads release their personnel, but make it clear that we are to complete the rest of our repairs and readiness inspections on schedule. Personnel are restricted to Starbase Geneva without special permission, anyone needing to go farther is to send a request up the chain for approval." He'd spent time down in Engineering assisting them. He had Lt Yalix and Ensign Smith manage things. Good training for both of them for any future possibilities that might come their way. He was reviewing the report's and post mission summaries. They hardly told the tale of the mission. His mind wandered back to the talk with the Mirror Universe's Captain Salid. He held the Imperial Dagger his counterpart had won upon his graduation from their academy. ~Tom, I don;t know if you can hear or feel this but I swear to you I will treat this as if it were my own - I hope you found peace~ he thought to himself. Josh had never herself aspired to be a Captain. Fate had simply picked her up and thrown her down in this position. She had simply been in the right place at the wrong time and far as she was concerned being in charge was seriously overrated. True, you got to command cool ships and fly around the galaxy, but now she knew first hand what every Captain or Commander she ever met had called the burden of Command, and frankly, it stank. It stank big time. All Josh could see that you got for your trouble was the pleasure of being on call 24 hours, 7 days a week and the dubious thrill of having your posterior royally kicked by the Admiralty every so often, when they felt antsy. And it certainly seemed that the Admiralty was feeling antsy at present given the amount of meetings that the Captain had been called to recently. Josh certainly felt extremely sorry for the Captain at present, and had begun to wonder when it would be her turn. Maybe she should take a leaf out of her Mirror Universe's book and simply tell them to stick it where the sun didn't shine. She could certainly see that Jennifer telling them exactly that, but could she? She was still debating that issue with herself when the Captain stepped back on to the bridge. Josh immediately stood up and vacated the centre chair. The captain however waived her back into it. "Mister Caskie, please arrange for our crew to take some much needed shore leave. There was a chime at his ready room door and Ahmed turned as the door parted to admit an old face. "Hello Lieutenant. How can I help you?" he asked, since Matrix was the acting CEO of the Furious. "Lieutenant Steven Matrix reporting as ordered captain." replied Matrix has he stood at attention. Ahmed reached down and pulled up the crew transfers. And there was Matrix's name. Transferred from the Furious back to the Rosenante. "Welcome back aboard mister Matrix. (reply Matrix) Daniel Greene -------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, ACEO- Lieutenant Steven Matrix, Day 1, 1454) Matrix reflected briefly wondering if he should mention he was tired, still he was human. The captain understood that on many levels. Captain Salid continued, "I completely understand lieutenant. I was an engineer once myself you may recall. I'm looking forward to serving in whatever capacity that benefits the ship, crew and you sir." replied Matrix. Matrix paused and exited the ready room anxious to get back to duty. Shore leave would be very welcome, but first to check in with Ensign Rixx. (USS Rosenante, Deck 6, Crew Quarters, ACEO - Lieutenant Steven Matrix, Day 1, 1501) Matrix had been assigned different quarters than his prior post aboard the Rosenante. While all of the officer quarters were nice, this one was slightly smaller. One of the main bulkheads cut through part of the room which served as a natural divider between the sleeping area and the rest of the room. Officers had the option to configure the room in just about any arrangement they wanted. Matrix typically had a desk replicated with three to four monitors where he could keep tabs in ship's systems and engineering. The outer edge of the room provided a partial view outside the starboard side of the ship. Matrix placed his travel bag on the bed and looked out the window. He could see part of the Geneva, noting all the hustle of repair crews in and around the station. He watched one repair drone silently circle outside the Rosenante and disappear under the hull as it traveled toward the ship. "Time to report to Ensign Rixx," said Matrix has he left his quarters. (USS Rosenante, Main Engineering, ACEO - Lieutenant Steven Matrix, Day 1, 1511) The main doors into engineering opened to reveal surprisingly very little activity. Matrix had expected a larger number of crew and repair teams working in engineering than were present. ~Must be out doing repairs or refits,~ surmised Matrix. Matrix noted Ensign Rixx near the main display panels looking down at a PADD she held in her hand. Periodically looking up as if checking off items. As Matrix approached ensign Rixx, he straightened his uniform. Matrix cleared his throat, "Lieutenant Matrix reporting as ordered ensign." said Matrix. (Reply Rixx) "It is good to see you again ensign. I'm looking forward to working aboard the Rosenante again and again with you ensign. " said Matrix. (Reply Rixx) "Yes the captain said you are heading up engineering and something about shore leave," replied Matrix with a smile. (Reply Rixx) Matrix sensed an uneasiness in the ensign's voice, but was unsure if she took his shore leave comment wrong or was uncomfortable with a Lieutenant reporting to an ensign. He tried to ease whatever it was that was making her uncomfortable. "...I only meant shore leave would be welcome if you didn't have anything for me at this time ensign." replied Matrix. (Reply Rixx) "I think whatever capacity that you and the captain decide is fine with me. I have no problems with you running engineering, you've deserved it." replied Matrix. He then leaned forward just enough to where his cheek was rubbing against hers, and in a deadly calm voice Chance whispered in her ear “Now listen up my little over paid sex-retary. You will tell him that Captain Raschen is here to discuss a matter vital to the cause. Is that understood?” (Reply Keats) The privateer then took a deep whiff of Captain Keats perfume, smiled and kissed her on the cheek and whispered “Tell him it is about Salid’s list.” (Reply Keats) (Reply Keats) Posted by Charlie ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Admiral Heatherby's Office- Aide - Captain Emily Keats- 1635) Emily had been sitting at her desk, absently wasting time looking over a few reports that needed to be read. Later she'd give the admiral the highlights and then he could decide if he wanted to read them. It was a service that she provided. It was commonly called the Keats timesaver. She must have been more engrossed in the reports than she had intended to be since she failed to notice immediately the approach of one Chance Raschen. "Hello Emily, I will be seeing the Admiral now." he said without missing a stride. "Raschen you can't disturb the admiral right now. He's...." He turned to face her, then stepping up to her, he smiled warmly at the female captain "And what made you think that you or he had a choice in the matter, my dear?" The tone was a little acidic, but it didn't phase Emily much. "This is Starfleet not the I.F.F. You're a Lieutenant and I'm a captain I out rank you, and that's why I have a choice" she said, placing both hands firmly on her hips, her legs at shoulder width apart. Chance stepped forward, reached up with a single finger and spoke softly into her ear, "Now listen up my little over paid sex-retary. You will tell him that Captain Raschen is here to discuss a matter vital to the cause. Is that understood?" Though she bristled at the name-calling, she held her cool. "You'll have to do a bit better than that Chance, I'm not your little plaything anymore. Not since you hooked up with that Romulan, or have you forgotten?" He inhaled sharply, then kissed her on the cheek. He was enjoying this little game. "Tell him it is about Salid's list." Now that caught her attention. Her eyes narrowed and she took a step away from the ex-privateer. The Locks of her blond hair trailed from his fingers. "Take a seat. I'll tell him." she ordered, then directed him towards one of the waiting seats. Once chance had taken his place, Emily turned and walked over to the door of the admiral's office. She didn't chime, instead she just entered. The door slid closed behind her without a sound. The admiral was sitting behind his desk, regarding some data, which was his normal habit. His eyes bounced up from the screen and settled somewhere around her cleavage, pausing longer than she preferred before he spoke. "I thought I said I didn't want to be disturbed captain." "You did , sir, but Captain Raschen is in the outer office, he says he wants to talk to you about Salid's list." "Salid's list you say?" Heatherby repeated back rhetorically. Emily just nodded. The admiral reached up and pushed a few buttons on his desk, then closed his monitor. "By all means send him in Captain. I don't mind seeing Lieutenant Raschen at all." Emily nodded then spun on her heels and exited the office. "He'll see you chance." she said when she reached the outer office, "go on in." He chose to sit at one of the last empty tables in tadewinds. It was here that someone would always approach him and start an interesting conversation.. It was like when ever he went somewhere alone,he would wind up not being alone by the time he got there.Which is something Sam liked because he did not like being alone.Since this was a starship with lots of people in it he was never alone which was a good thing for him. ~now lets see who is going to join me~ (Reply by any) (posted by shawn) -------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Starbase Geneva -Tradewinds -Day 1 COPS Lt Tom Jackson- 1733) Tom Jackson and Phil Sheridan were off on a corner by themselves discussing several things when Tom and Phil noticed Dr Lopez enter and sit by himself. Two starships were on shore leave, so the place was pretty full. The MC, a Romulan, spoke to the crowd, who were not paying a whole lot of attention to him. "The Lonely Tribble, is happy to present, all the way from the Bayous of South American Earth..." The MC announced. "The American South." Benoit corrected. The Romulan looked at him for a beat. "Whatever...We present the Bluegrass musical stylings of Banjo Benoit!" A smattering of clapping greeted Benoit. With a very loud cheer coming from a burly SO from the Furious. Benoit then thanked the audience and began playing 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown', and then followed it up with 'I'll Fly Away.'" There was some enthusiasm with crowd and they gave him a polite round of applause. He stepped of the stage and back to his table where Fred was talking to a women, who had not been there before Benoit had gone on stage. "Hey that was great Benoit. Let me introduce you to Katy Churchill." Fred Jones smiled. "It's a pleasure." Replied Benoit as he sat down. "I enjoyed your music. It reminds me of some of the ancient Gallic music from where I come from, on Earth." "Well, Gallic music, was certainly an influence on Bluegrass. In fact, much of the immigration of the 19th century came from..." "Okay, okay. We came here to have a good time, so stop the egghead stuff." Fred interrupted. Benoit smiled politely, if strained. Fred continued. "Guys, we really need to get this party going. And Doctor Jones has just the prescription!" Fred smiled and pulled out a small device. "What's that?" Katy asked. Fred grinned. "It's what turns a bunch of people sitting around drinking, to having the time of their lives..." Fred paused for dramatic effect. "It's Holo-Karaoke!" Both Benoit and Katy looked stone faced. "Come on, let's get this party going!" Fred then lept to the stage. Fred began to sing a song called 'Amanda' by a late 20th century music group apparently named after a very large metropolis in the American Mid-West. As the song wore on, Benoit developed a pained expression. Katy turned to Benoit. "Fred said he took your girlfriend to his Prom. Wasn't her name Amanda?" "Yes, it was." Replied Benoit. Fred finished the song, and then spoke to the audience. His voice magnified by the Holo-Karaoke mic. "Thank you everyone. I think we need to step it up a notch, and really get this party going!" Fred then began 'Rock and Roll all Night' singing slightly off key, but making up for it with energy and excitement. After finishing, Fred seemed to have won over a good portion of the audience. He shouted back to his table. "Hey guys come on up here a sing a song!" Katy bashfully walked up to the stage and sand a Crunckle song. A form of music briefly popular in the UK 10 years prior to this time. This was met with polite applause. "Come on Katy, don't you know any Rock songs?" Fred encouraged. "Well," she pondered. "My Grandmother used to sing me an Ancient Rock and Roll Song when I was very young." She then sang a very passable version of 'Suddently I See" by KT Tunstall. The crowd seemed impressed, and Fred again tried coaxing Benoit to the stage. "Come on, you got to know some 20th century pop?" Fred implored. Reluctantly Benoit got on stage and sang "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band. He had a very good and rich voice, and the crowd seemed to become very enthusiastic with his performance. Fred leaped back on the stage half way through the song and began pantomiming the Fiddle solos. Even Benoit had to crack a smile at this.
