The ex-Privateer Captain said as he faced Errol. "But what happens if this turns around and bites you in the butt like a bulldog?" "Then you do the thing that you always have to do with a mad dog that's tasted blood, you put it down, Chance. Clean and quick and you find yourself anther watch dog for the junkyard." Errol replied. Raschen just snickered in disbelief at the admiral's answer. "You know, one way or the other, this whole thing may devour us all in the end regardless of the outcome?" "I suppose that's a possibility. There's always a chance of that. But I like to think that such an action will be needless, if we all work together and stay patient until all the pieces are where they belong. Then the only ones being consumed will be those standing against us." "I'll have T'Lela brought over chance, if for no other reason to show you that I am as connected as I claim to be. I'll leave it to you to decide if you want her on the ship with you as your wife, or not. Is there anything else that you need Chance? I have a coup to plan." "Actually sir, yes there is something else. On this last little escapade I had a former Marine and a former Ranger in my security department. I want my personnel/equipment authorization roster changed so that I am allowed one squad of each in my department along with their combat gear. So after I get Captain Salid to sign the request, I need to get it to someone that will approve it." "Okay I can see how that can be useful to us. Do you want Rosenbauer's team or someone else authorized for the full equipment? And as for the marines, I'll send you a squad of ex-marines turned security. You get your captain to approve it and I'll see to it that you get your equipment and personnel before the ship leaves dock." (reply Chance) "Oh and chance, don't forget to meet T'Lela at docking ring three in two days. She'd be very angry with you if you failed to show up." (reply Chance) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Lonely Tribble Lounge- ACSO, Louis Remey - Day 1 - 2112.5) After introducing himslef Louis got swept up with the others as an officer swept them to his table. He sat back and drained his glass as the others conversed, he normally wasn't one for a lot of talking but latching on with this group was making him feel at home in a way. Two of the officers were from the ship he had been assigned to, a good way to break the ice. Then that table got joined with another and he found himself elbows deep in Rosenante personnel. ~You fell into a good one Louis, sit back and enjoy it.~ He held up his glass as he flagged down a waitress then ordered another. "I'm a Security Officer on the Furious. I got to say, the girls look pretty good on the Rose." He winked at Louis nd the other man then smiled at Ichijo. The singer of an old John Denver song then joined them after finishing. "I'm Ensign Benoit, I'm a Science Officer just assigned to the Rosenante." "Well isn't that a coincidence." Louis chuckled. "So am I, I just arrived this evening. My name is Louis Remey, an ensign as you can see, pleased to meet you." He stuck out his hand for a shake. "It looks like we'll be working pretty closely together." (Reply: Benoit, Jackson, Ichijo) "So who's ready to Karaoke!?" Louis looked toward the affable security officer and laughed. "Sorry but I'm afraid you can leave me out, I have a voice like a frog." (Reply: Jones, any) (Posted by Charles) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Lonely Tribble Lounge- COPS, LT Tom Jackson Day 1 - 2114) A new officer, to be assigned to the Rosenante joined Tom and his companions. It seems that his name was Louis Remey. Introductions were quickly made. Tom smiled and extended his hand to the new man and said "I'm Tom Jackson - COPS of The Rose. Welcome aboard". (reply: Louis) While the group was chatting things were heating up across the bar. (reply: any at Table) (posted by: Bill) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Promenade - CSEC - Lt Chance Raschen – 2125.5) After his meeting with Admiral Heatherby, Chance definitely had a lot on his mind so he just simply started wondering throughout the vast station on foot, not really paying any attention to where he was going. Chance still had the occasional nightmare about that night all those years ago when his wife, T’Lela, died during the privateer’s rescue attempt of her from a Cardassian POW complex during the last Cardassian War. As much as he would love to have her back in his life; he wasn’t sure if an alternate version suddenly a daily part of his life would be a good thing or not. =^=Sullivan to Raschen. =^= Reaching under his jacket and tapping his comm.-badge “This is Raschen, go ahead.” =^=I have arrived; I chose an establishment called "The Lonely Tribble".. Should I order something for you or will you be a bit longer? =^= The privateer stopped and looked around to see where he had wound up at before answering the Vulcan “Give me about 20- 25 minutes to get there.. Go ahead and get something for yourself.” =^=Understood, I will order and as soon as you arrive, we can make our way to the holodeck. Our time allotted is on Holodeck 2, 2200 hours until 2400 hours. =^= Smiling as he walked toward the indicated establishment “I’m on my way.” =^=See you soon, Sullivan out. =^= (Starbase Geneva – The Lonely Tribble - CSEC - Lt Chance Raschen – 2215) Chance had arrived at the Lonely Tribble almost a half hour earlier, just in time to duck back around the corner as a chair went flying out the doorway into the saloon. Raschen was no stranger when it came to fighting, but he just didn’t feel up to joining in on that one, let alone try breaking it up. So he just stood there and watched till it wound down enough that he could enter the bar without getting caught up in the brawl. When that time finally came, he entered and walked p to the bar and ordered a shot of Scotch Whiskey. He turned around and winked at T’Larah. Chance then took one of M’Epak’s hands and one of Kitty’s hands, kissed both females hands and said “Well ladies and gentlemen; it might behoove us to depart before y’all get into trouble. Besides, I have a date on a pirate ship.” (Reply any iyw) Posted by Charlie ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Lonely Tribble Lounge- Gamma Shift Leader - Lieutenant Xim - Day 1- 2140) The addition of Ensign Ichijo did not make things any easier, although Xim could understand her fascination with the buckles on the Klingon's uniform. In a strange sort of way, he agreed that they were trendy. The Klingon wasn't impressed however and her comment was obviously a worse insult than whatever it was that Xim had said, because a few moments later, the massively built Klingon hit him hard in the mid-section, which caused Xim to stagger backwards just enough to give the Klingon an opportunity to wrap his massive arms around the Betelgeusean officer and heft him up off the ground before tossing him into Lieutenant Matrix. Xim, rolled off his fellow officer in time to see Jackson slam into another of the Klingons like a freighter doing warp six. Mosh, stepped past them landing a hard right hook to Karg's jaw, which hardly phased the larger being. The Klingon turned on the Bolian and drilled a punch directly into the security officer's face. The Bolian staggered, nearly tripping over Kimiko and came to rest against the bar. An Orion peeled off from the group and attacked him. Xim took the opportunity of the Klingon's distraction to get back on his feet. The adrenaline and other hormones, sharpening his perception and pushing away most of the affects of the alcohol that he had consumed earlier. The Lieutenant drove a punch into the Klingon's right kidney, and then offered him a foot in the small of his back to send him forward and into the table of a group of Cardassians, who until now had managed to stay out of the conflict that had been boiling around them. That group exploded out of their shattered table, and were suddenly embroiled in the entire fight as most, if not all of the bar erupted into the swirling chaos of fists, kicks and flying debris. Xim spun as he detected some movement of to his left, but it wasn't fast enough. The fist of an Orion slammed into his forehead ridge, slitting the knuckles of the Orion open and staggering Xim under the force of the blow. The Betelgeusean stopped himself by grabbing the person closest to him, which turned out to be one of the Cardassians. The Cardassian spun and raised his fist to strike Xim, but the Lieutenant had already had enough with being hit. The larger being landed a blistering right-left jab combination into the Cardassian's face and the individual stumbled backwards, tripping over the remains of his table. Then out of nowhere, the Klingon Karg was back. His right fist slammed into Xim's ribs, sending a cry of pain through his body. The left fist struck Xim high on his cheek and the abrasiveness of the Klingon's gloved knuckles tore skin. Xim twisted with the blow, spinning and launching his own backhand into the Klingon's jaw. He staggered slightly from the blow, but the look in his eye said that the fight was far from over. (reply all present) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Crew Quarters - Crewman Caroline Winters - Day 1 - 2040.5) Caroline stood up from her desk chair and walked the length of her shared quarters. It was the same trip she'd made at least a dozen times in the past half an hour. Normally, she would be busy working and wouldn't have the time to just sit and mull over things. But as of 1600, she was technically on leave. And on leave for the next three days as well. With no idea what she'd do with all her free time. Instead of plopping back down in the chair, she sat on the end of the bed. Thoughts of how the mirror universe her had looked when they'd came into the ISS Rosenante's engineering bay were seemingly haunting her. She didn't know if it was because she was in essence seeing herself or that her other self looked so beaten down. The bruising that looked to be a day or so old, the way she was standing there with a hard look on her face. Not to mention the blood that had been on her uniform. It had been chilling and caused her nightmares. As hard as she had tried to put the image behind her, she couldn't. Caroline had considered discussing it with Ensign Rixx since she'd been there and seen the same thing that day, but the Ensign had been very busy every time she'd approached her. Not to mention, Caroline was still uncertain how to start that particular conversation. Did it begin with "Hey, Mitena... you remember that person that looked a whole lot like me on the ISS Rosenante? She wasn't me, right?" Caroline shook her head at how stupid it sounded. After all, of course that other person wasn't her. They were different people with different backgrounds. They just happened to look a lot alike. At least that's what she kept telling herself. She couldn't help but wonder if she should talk to someone about it. Maybe at least go to medical and request something to help her sleep. She stood up and headed out the door. She wasn't exactly sure where she was going to go, but wherever it was it would be more entertaining than staring at the spot on the floor between her feet. Maybe it would be a nice time to go out and get a drink. (Starbase Geneva - Lonely Tribble Lounge - Crewman Caroline Winters - Day 1 - 2155) By the time Caroline had actually made it to a bar, she already felt like she was in better spirits. Perhaps part of the problem had been that she had been cooped up in that room when she should have been out socializing. In her left hand, she had a small orange bag that contained a new dress and a pair of slippers that she'd gotten from a Vulcan proprietor on the first level of the promenade. A lovely ivory and green wrap around dress with matching shoes. She wasn't sure when she'd have an occasion to wear it, but it had been too perfect not to pick up. Along the way she'd managed to obtain a small blue flower as a gift that she'd tucked behind her ear when another vendor had tried to talk her into buying a bouquet. Combine her purchases with the hustle of being around other people for a bit and she felt much more at ease with herself. Shopping was always therapeutic. She pushed open the glass door and headed into the first establishment along the corridor. Across the room she saw many familiar faces, and a good many of them looked to have been in one heck of a fight. As the crowd moved, she thought she even saw the First Officer. ~wow...Just wow.~ For many reasons, she was glad she seemed to have missed the bulk of the fight. "Maybe I picked the wrong place to be, just right now." Caroline said out loud to no one in particular. Taking a deep breath, she decided that leaving wasn't the best option just yet. Besides, some of these people might need help finding their way back to the ship. She debated between joining her crewmates and stopping at the bar and getting a drink before joining her crewmates. Whatever had happened here, she was certain it would make for an interesting story if anyone could remember what had kicked the whole thing off. (reply any) (posted by Ruby) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Lonely Tribble Lounge- Klingon Tactical Commander Karg - Day 1- 2141) Karg was forced to take a step back at the blow from the taller Federation officer as he shook his head to clear it, all of the effects of the bloodwine had been burned away by the fire kindled in his veins by the joy of battle. A trickle of purple blood from the corner of his mouth could be felt before he bellowed "majQa'" (Very good) then burst forward again with a straight left to Xim's jaw, the right hook that followed was deftly dodged as the Betalgeusean ducked but that brought him into a prime attack position. Karg clenched his fists together and chopped them into the right side of the officers neck at his shoulder blade. The blow would have felled a lesser being but this Federation warrior was tough, he didn't go down but did stagger back a few steps as he tried to shake off the effects of the blow. As he did so Karg moved forward to press his advantage but movement to his left caused him to turn his head. Two of the Cardassians from the table that had been savaged were moving forward to avenge their fallen comrade and their eyes were locked on the Betalgeusean. The old adage that the enemy of your enemy is your friend did not apply to Cardassians, especially where Klingons were concerned. Karg spun and drove his left fist into the face of one Cardassian then with his right hand on the shoulder of the other spun him around. The Cardassian lashed out with his right fist which grazed Kargs jaw as he slipped the blow then with both hands grabbed the Cardassian by the shoulders and pulled him close, as he did so he drove his forhead into the Cardassians face. Kargs brow ridges propelled by powerful neck muscles squashed the Cardassians nose and impacted his forehead but the Regulan bloodworm didn't feel it as he fell to the floor unconscious. The first Cardassian took advantage of that short fight by stepping in and bringing down a vicious chop to the base of Kargs' skull. The Klingon staggered forward for an instant but his rage fueled the return of his strength, he turned with a roar and caught the left fist of the Cardassian in his right hand and yanked him into a bear hug. The Carddy squawled as he was lifted off his feet and the air was driven from his lungs by Kargs immense strength. Karg bellowed into the fellows face "naDevvo' yIghoS!" (Go away) then turned and launched him into another knot of combatants. All three went down in a tangle of limbs then Karg turned back to the Federation warrior who was giving him a spectacular battle. He turned directly into a short right hook which set bells to ringing in his ears. Half blinded he bellowed and launched himself into the Betalgeuseans midsection, his powerful legs churning as he drove him back until a wall stopped their momentum. (Reply: Xim) (Posted by Charles) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Lonely Tribble Lounge- Gamma Shift Leader - Lieutenant Xim- Day 1- 2142) The left jab from the large Klingon struck Xim solidly in the face and staggered him, but it wasn't enough to slow Xim enough to get struck by the following right hook. The Betelgeusean dodged the blow well enough, but the Klingon came down on Xim's shoulder with a nasty two fisted hammer blow. It sent waves of pain through his shoulder and caused him to stagger under the blow. He backed up almost against the bar, placing one hand there to steady himself and to prepare for the follow up attack that would be coming. But there wasn't one. Instead the Klingon had engaged a group of Cardassians and this gave Xim the time he needed to refocus his efforts on the Klingon warrior. As Karg spun back around to face him, he was met by the powerful and meaty right hook that Xim had launched into this opponent's face. The Klingon bellowed something feral and rammed his shoulder into Xim's midsection pushing him backwards into a nearby wall. The Betelgeusean exhaled as he made contact with the wall as he had been trained to do, preventing the air from being forced from his lungs. He raised both his massive hands over his head, locked them together and brought them down three times onto the Klingon Warrior's back. Each blow shaking his opponent as they hammered the point just between his shoulder blades. Xim felt the Klingon's grasp lessen and so he reached down and grabbed the Klingon warrior by the nose with his left hand twisting his face sideways. With a punishing blow, Xim hammered his right forearm into the Klingon's neck, planting his fist just behind the warriors left ear with resounding success. Karg released his grip, and staggered away from the Betelgeusean shaking his head to clear it. Xim pulled himself to his full height, wiping blood from a cut over his eye with the back of his hand. They were both exhausted and Xim may well have collapsed under the weight of his exertion had it not been for the support of the wall. Xim regarded his opponent, whose footing was just as uncertain as his own. His eyes quickly took in the bar and it seemed that there were a few less fights as people dropped from the beating they had taken or from the exhaustion of the beating they had given. Xim strengthened his resolve, then prepared to defend himself from the next assault that the Klingon warrior would throw his way. (reply all present, Karg) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Lonely Tribble Lounge- Esn Kimiko Ichijo - Day 1- 2143) ~It seems that the Klingon doesn’t remember where he got the buckle or something~ Kimiko thought, but it seemed for all of her diplomatic skill, she was still unable to stop the fight as she saw officer Xim catch a blow to the stomach and then tossed into Matrix. Kimiko was not drunk enough to forget that she was one of the most breakable in this room, bottles aside, and that being broken hurt. ~I’m a doctor, d*mn it, not a prize fighter~ Kimiko thought as she fell to her hands and knees and started crawling back to her table. Keeping her eyes firmly focused on the ground so she would not have to see all of the people getting hurt, she inched her way out of the general area. She bumped into something and looked up to see a pair of boots ~humm, more buckles~ she thought as her eyes drew up the form to see a Klingon smiling rather evilly at her. With little else she could do, Kimiko smiled back at him. The next thing the doctor was aware of is the sensation of flying into the air and watched as the bar rushed to meet her. The corner of the bar caught her in the stomach and her forehead banged into countertop and her knees slammed into the front of the bar. She stayed motionless for a moment and then slid down the bar The Ensign found herself sprawled out on the floor and did a quick mental inventory, it didn’t seem that anything was damaged or broke, but the was an odd change of state, she didn’t feel tipsy anymore but was, what was the word…upset, no…annoyed, no….mad, not quite it….pissed, oh yes that was it. Kimiko pulled herself of the ground and quickly scanned the room for the offender ~There he is~ Kimiko spied the Klingon wading though melee heading for someone in a blue uniform. The doctor launched herself at the warrior with a battle cry, well more like a shriek, but it served its intended purpose, the Klingon turned at the sound and found fifty kilograms of furious female human. Gorack, automatically dropped into a battle stance, although it was hardly needed for this tiny human. ~One blow will do for her and then I will fight worthy opponents~ The Klingon thought dismissively. However before he could swing the small human had wrapped her arms arm around his neck. Kimiko found herself off of the ground with her hands clasped behind the warrior’s neck, simultaneously turning her wrists inward and bringing her elbows in, she applied pressure on the sides of his neck, restricting blood flow. Not content with that, Kimiko hooked her left leg around the thigh, nearly bending the Klingon in half, and then she brought her right knee up to pound him in the groin, several times. Gorack was having a bad day. (Reply any) (Posted by Jack) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Lonely Tribble Lounge- ACEO - Lieutenant Matrix - Day 1- 2143.5) As Matrix moved to help Xim it was too late, the Klingon struck Xim in the face, followed by a downward thrust to his shoulder. He could see Xim grimace. Xim staggered backwards just passing him, then leaned on the bar. Matrix moved forward, prepared to engage the Klingon, but he had already turned his attention to the Cardassians and Xim focused on Karg. From Matrix's left side and slightly behind him, his peripheral vision picked up movement, but he didn't have time to react. Another Klingon had entered the lounge behind Matrix. At six foot two Matrix wasn't a small man, but Klingons were often larger and more stout. The stealthy Klingon had pulled his right hand back and threw it, backhanding the left side of Matrix's face. The pain was exquisite. Matrix felt a sharp pain from the tritanium armor from the Klingon's hand plate. It had established a deep cut into his face, only stopped by the cheekbone. The Klingon seemed surprised Matrix was still standing. Matrix staggered forward, then bent over slightly he wiped his face, noting the blood now dripping onto the floor around him. Still dazed he looked up to see the fight in full swing with other crewmates, the Klingons, Cardassians and few others he didn't recognize. Drink, pride or the simple need for self preservation motivated Matrix to keep standing. He lifted his now bloody right hand, looking in utter surprise and the amount of blood and pulled out the piece of the tritanium armor that lodged in his cheekbone. "That was a dirty shot my friend...and uncalled for. Now its personal!" spat Matrix. The Klingon laughed out loud. Matrix turned as the Klingon moved toward him as though to tackle him, and used the Klingon's momentum and own body weight to flip the Klingon over. The force of the combined technique and momentum forced the Klingon into the air, landing on a table just 11 feet away. The Klingon hit the table with the force of a wrecking ball, breaking the table and rendering the man unconscious. Matrix was a bit surprised of the outcome and even more impressed he had managed to knock the Klingon out. Matrix bent over the warrior and said, "Let that be a lesson to you, never ever sucker punch a Star Fleet officer." Matrix moved back to the bar, out of the way of the brawl. The bartender tossed him a towel and Matrix used it to help stop the blood from his face. One of the Nausicaan's noted the move and congratulated Matrix. Matrix smiled and sat down at the bar. "Bartender, how about a whiskey? Make that a double...and another towel please." commanded Matrix as he sat down at the end of the bar. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Steve) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva- Lonely Tribble Lounge- SO- Tyrone Cooper- Day 1- 2144) Cooper watched as everything simply erupted into a free for all. He rose to his feet when the rest of the team did. Noted the Orions making for the Klingons, the inclusion of the Nausicaans and the Cardassians into the fight and then noted the image of the Nausicaan with the broken bottle heading directly for Commander Sullivan. Cooper drove his left fist into the mid section of one of the Orions and watched as the being doubled up in agony. A swift upward thrust of the knee to the individual's face put him down for the count and then Cooper was ready to put himself in harm's way again. He took three steps forward, grabbed a half full bottle of Andorian whiskey from an adjacent table, and using his full body weight and momentum, launched the weighted bottle across the melee filled room and into the hand of the Nausicaan that was holding the broken bottle. The remains of the bottle imploded under the impact and the Nausicaan howled in pain as the remains of the bottle still in his grasp cut into the flesh of his palm. This noise caught Sullivan's attention and the Nausicaan did not tarry on Tyrone for much longer, but instead focused his attentions on the Vulcan Third Officer. T'Vyr was beside him then, blocking an incoming chair meant for Cooper's back. That's why he liked being a Ranger, they always watched out for each other. "Eva!" Cooper bellowed. "yeah?" Saint-Jean responded, even as she released the sleeper hold on the Cardassian that had attacked her. "Help Caskie!" he ordered, then jabbed a finger at the general melee that was swirling around the First Officer and the Medical department of the Rosenante. "I'm on it!" She replied and headed that way. "T'Vyr, you help Mosh, he's having a hard time with those Orions." The Vulcan punched the Andorian that he had been fighting in the face and then acknowledged his orders and headed for the Bolian. Cooper spotted a second Andorian coming at him from his left. The seasoned soldier, twisted his body backwards and sideways, narrowly avoiding the broken table leg that was swinging towards his skull. He was still fairly inebriated though and staggered from the sudden movement, ending up against the wall of the establishment. The Andorian came forward swinging the piece of broken furniture in a hammer blow towards his face. The Ex-Ranger raised his arm. Took the blow on his left forearm and allowed the forced of the blow to drive him to his left knee. His right hand lanced out in a tight short blow, pounding the blue-skinned assailant's genitals. The Andorian howled in pain, released his grip on the club and grasped his testicles as he collapsed onto the ground. Tyrone rose to his feet and surveyed the room, trying to figure out what the best course of action would be in the maelstrom of swinging limbs and breaking furniture. (reply All present, Sullivan) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - The Lonely Tribble – Combat Nurse – E’Mpak Day 1 - 2145) E’Mpak sat in deep shadow in a corner of The Lonely Tribble slowly sipping her drink. She had heard about tribble therapy but had not been able to see it first hand due to hostility between the Klingons and the Tribbles. She like most other Klingons hated Tribbles and thought of them an ecological disaster and should be removed but her curiosity over rode her dislike. In saying that since she had arrived in her corner there was a no-mans land of a few feet where the tribbles had not crossed. The bar tender had given her a strange look when she had first arrived but since she had not caused the tribbles any harm she had supplied her with a few drinks and left her be. E’Mpak had watched with fascination as lots of different people had entered stressed and worried and had become relaxed and happy soon after. She had noticed a group from the Rose and was going to go over to them but realized that she would have had to wade through the growing carpet of tribbles that had grown up around her. This would have caused a lot of noise and distress so she stayed where she was. ~Come on one more shuffle. A little closer~ She had been intently looking at a small tribble which had ventured boldly into the no-mans land. “There you go little one. I am not going to hurt you.” She said softly to her self. There was a commotion at the bar. She snapped her head up to see the waitress being thrown across the room by a Nausicaan. She leaped up and danced her way across the room from one clear patch to another until she reached the waitress. She knelt beside her and quickly assessed her with the experience the only comes from performing this duty hundreds of times under fire. ~Looks like she is just knocked unconscious at least we have Dr Ichijo here~ E’Mpak looked up to see the a group of Klingons, some of the Rose crew and a group of Orians lead by the Nausicaan who had thrown the waitress were heading towards each other. ~Ow Ho a fight not good~ She picked up a shattered end of a chair leg and stood up. She was not aloud to carry blades on the station while she was on secondment to Starfleet which she thought was a pity. She gave a battle cry as she leaped over a mound of tribbles towards one of the Orians. She wanted to get to the Nausicaan and teach him some manners with her new friend the stick. The Orian turned to meet her with a punch she saw the blur of movement as she spun in the air. The blow which could have taken her head off brushed past her hair. She landed hard on to the floor going down on one knee, knowing that she needed to move before the Orian was on her. She lashed out hard with her chair leg end and made contact with the Orian’s knee. She grinned in savage pleasure as she heard the Orian cry out in pain as his knee was shattered. As he fell to the floor E’Mpak moved forward and knocked him out cold with a quick blow to the head. By a Betelgeusean no less! Behind the officer a human and an exotic looking female were making their way forward as well. Karg had to look up at the being as he took his feet but that was even better, maybe he would get a challenge from a round of fighting with this one. "Hey Targ Breath! If you don't like it, why don't you take your pathetic crew and head home in your warp powered garbage scow? Or maybe you'd rather make it an issue, eh?" "An issue?" Karg snarled. "There is no issue." he flexed his hands which caused the leather to creak soothingly. "There is only the joy of battle!" “Gentleman, this is unnecessary, We are all here to enjoy ourselves and I don’t know about you but breaks and contshuouns….contusions are not my idea of entertainment.” Karg turned his head at the noisy newcomer and saw it was the exotic looking female. “As I was saying before you so rudely doubled” She looked up at him. “Whoops, I’m sorry that was culturally insensitive of me, if it is important for you to get more of your people before you can have fun, well that’s okay, there is room for ……” She gave a confused look for a second. “Hey, that is a really cute buckle, where did you get it?” Karg darkened then turned his attention away from her, she was perhaps a diversionary tactic. With a roar he exploded into Xim's midsection and grabbed him, with his great strength and leverage he lifted the Betelgeusean to chest height and tossed the being into the following human, the two went down in a heap but before Karg could follow up he heard Mak roar with rage and turning his head saw that a number of green skinned Orions had flanked his group and attacked. Bellowing with glee he burst toward them and grabbed one from behind and locked his hands around the Orions arms and chest, squeezing with all his might as the others were wading into their attackers, seeing they were well engaged he spun and threw the Orion across a table, mugs and liquid flying as he skidded over and onto the floor as the inhabitants scattered out of the way. Me'saj, Mak and HoK engaged with the Orions and the others scattering to spread mayhem to other attackers so he turned his attention back to Xim and Matrix, brushing the female out of his way as he made for them, he also kept one wary eye out for any trying to get behind them as he did so. His body was desperately taking in air to recharge itself and his legs had grown weakened and wobbly, one look at the Betalgeusean satisfied Karg that his opponent was in no better shape. A quick look around showed the brawl to be dying off, with many of its participants unconcious on the floor so Karg placed gauntleted hands on his hips while he sucked in air as he faced the wary officer who had one hand placed upon the wall to steady himself whilst preparing for another attack. As Karg met his glare a smile broke out upon his face, his challenge had been met and satisfied, he had engaged in a contest of strength and endurance with this one and the battle had been worth remembering. Kargs tension had dissipated and his warriors blood satisfied. The Klingon brought up one hand to wipe away the purple blood streaming from his ravaged nose and mouth after which he brought his head back and gave vent to a thundering laugh as he returned the hand to his hip and wiped the blood on his uniform. "QA TLHO' Federation. majQa' teskas tal'tai-kleon!" He boomed. (I thank you Federation, Very good, My compliments to a worthy opponent.) He then switched back to guttural Federation standard. The doctor felt what was promising to become a spectacular set of bruises and felt somewhat of a quandary, she always felt that it was the moral high ground to avoid fighting, true- it was sometimes necessary for one to defend others. But that should be done by people who were good at that sort of thing. ~my talents lay elsewhere~ But her quandary was that she enjoyed herself, enjoyed bringing a being twice her size down, enjoyed cutting loose, and even enjoyed, not the pain as per say, but the stimulation of the fisticuffs. She should beat a hasty retreat before she got into trouble but her Superego was being royally trashed by her Id and her Ego was staying the heck out of it. While she was contemplating whether it was a far nobler thing to fight (or some such mixed metaphor), an Orin made the argument moot, with a shove that sent the ensign stumbling across the floor. Kimiko turned around. "I do believe this is my dance" Three major relevant chemicals were coursing though Kimiko’s bloodstream that insured that the Orin had a eager opponent. First was the alcohol, second was the adrenaline, and third was endorphins, unfortunately for the doctor. The three also are known for causing lapses in judgment and do not add to skill or size; which, even more unfortunate for the doctor, the Orin had in abundance. The Ensign ducked under the first swing easily enough and landed a stinging blow to her opponent’s midsection, and then quickly she followed up with a spinning elbow. The first blow landed, however it was on some sort of rigid plate and felt somewhat similar to hitting a wall or would be like what she imagined hitting wall would feel like if she was silly enough to go around hitting walls. The spinning elbow was caught in mid-spin and immobilized The poor doctor felt a number of blows, ending with one to the jaw. Darkness ensued. With the Captain and first officer both on extended shore leave off system, he was able to give commands to the helm with out asking for permission or lengthy explanations. "Start procedures for getting underway." he said to the helm officer who was on shift. The voice on the other side sounded befuddled from the change of orders, " .... but we are effecting repairs of the warp drive, and..." he stammered. T'eetcz cut him off before he could finish the explanation, " Listen to me, we are in a few minutes going to need an extraction, you can't do this connected to the station, because the blasted Starfleet is tied into our systems, if we don't get out of here the lot of us will get arrested. "Do I look like I'm joking? he said, "Do you want to get paid?" "Boss, I ain't gonna get paid if I get arrested." the Orion protested. "Did you not hear me? We are going to get transported as soon as I say. So make it a good distraction, and when I take down that little Vulcan b**ch, if we have time, I will help mop up the Klingon rabble." he explained. A klingon warrior would gladly face any physical trial and laugh or roar in its face but public humiliation? That was used for only the most damning proceedings, for one who had shown cowardice or dishonor. To be publicly stripped of honor or to have ones house dishonored was worse than death. To be publicly humiliated ths way, to have ones honor tainted before their fellows rather than being brutally beaten by a superior opponent was anathema and to be a part of such a proceeding was unpalatable for an honorable klingon warrior. At first she had attempted not to stand on the tribbles littering the floor, but, after having to hop on one foot a few times she eventually gave up. She was finally beginning to understand why the Klingons hated the furry little monsters so much and tried to remind herself to send a message to the Starbase Commander about the potential hazard that they could cause. Everyone she had managed to drag out had been tossed back to one of the nurses to be treated and Josh was just congratulating herself on a job well done when someone grabbed her from behind and wrapped his arms around her throat. Looking down all she could see was the steely black sleeves of a Cardassian uniform and Josh, organising her options, decided not to go with the normal Starfleet training, which would have involved her using her opponent's weight against him and tossing him over her shoulder. All that would get Josh would be a sore back and a raw throat, given his grip on her. She decided however to use an old technique that her brother had taught her and that was to SING. Her arms being free she used her right elbow to jab her opponent in his solar plexus. The whoosh of air from his lungs caused Josh to smile but only for a moment as she employed her right foot. Now Josh being around the six foot mark usually wore flat heels, but on a girls night out, she, like most females wasn't averse to wearing what was commonly known as 'killer heels'. She immediately brought down the six inch stiletto that she was wearing straight into the her foe's instep. Had her adversary been anybody other that a Cardassian or a Klingon her heel would have drilled straight through their foot. Her opponent, being Cardassian however, was wearing a reinforced boot, but that did not stop Josh's foot from making a serious and painful impact. At the same time she balled her hand into a fist and striking backwards will it struck him foursquare on the nose. Several things told Josh that she had hit her mark. Firstly was the fact that she heard his nose break, it had an odd crack and squishy sound that every doctor recognised. Secondly was the blood that began to flow down her shoulder, all the way down her dress and drip onto the floor. Thirdly was that the stranglehold he had her in suddenly stopped as he cupped both his hands around his nose. Josh, not waiting, brought her fist straight back down and punched him squarely in the region of his genitals. Turning around to face him as he doubled over she placed her right foot on his shoulder and kicked him over onto his back. "And that is for ruining my new dress." Smiling to herself she dusted her hands off and turned around to see who else she could rescue. She never even saw the punch coming. The Starfleet Officer in front of her ducked and the punch that one of the Orions had launched his way connected squarely with Josh's jaw. That meant that Kitty needed four eyes at least and since she only had two her concentration had to keep changing back and forward between things. That meant that the next time she looked back at Josh she was already being attacked by a Cardassian and Kitty watched with a smile as Josh employed an old trick to disable him. Her grin however turned to chargin as Josh simply walked into the next punch that was thrown her way. Watching Josh being downed threw any thoughts of helping the wounded straight out of Kitty's head. Knowing that she would never be heard above the noise of the brawl she simply stuck two fingers in her mouth and let out a piercing whistle. That got the attention of every single nurse in the room and Kitty simply pointed in the general direction of Josh before she used the back of one of the Klingons to simply hopscotch over him and launch herself at the Orion who had downed Josh, Landing crouched Kitty simply used her momentum to launch herself upwards again and finally landing on the Orion's back she wrapped her legs around him and began to dig her thumbs into his eyes. He attempted the usual tactic of trying to throw Kitty over his shoulder but Kitty had plastered herself to him like a limpet and simply refused to let go. Once the Orion realised that his tactics were not working he changed them and began to force Kitty's thumbs away from his eyes and Kitty knew that he was far stronger than she was and that she could not hold on for more than a few moments. Thankfully that was when almost the entire compliment of the Rose nursing staff hit him en masse and bowled him over. Kitty, letting go, rolled away and immediately crawled towards Josh, grabbed her and propped her up against the nearest wall, all the while assessing her for injuries. "Are you ok?" Josh shook her head. "I think so. At least I think I think so. Although I seriously think I need to sit down." Kittty watched as Josh simply slid down the wall and eventually Kitty decided to join her on the floor. Josh looked at her almost owl like and raising her arms to encompass the entire bar almost fell over in doing so. "You know what really, really annoys me." Kitty simply shook her head. "Nope, but I'm sure you're going to tell me anyway." Josh simply sighed. "We never got to sing." Kitty stood up and began to help Josh up too. "Oh well, never mind, we can do it next time. Now I need you to come to Sickbay with me." Josh stood swaying on her feet and started to laugh. "Look the fight is over now and the Klingons are buying everybody a drink. Let's go get a drink Kitty, you and I certainly deserve one." Kitty managed to grab Josh's arm. "Actually no Josh, we need to get back to Sickbay now." Josh blinked again. "You are so right, we need to get back there. I think we do don't you? Kitty simply nodded (Reply anyone iyw) (Posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Lonely Tribble Lounge - COPS - Tom Jackson - Day 1 - 2210) Tom =finally had gotten the sars to disappear from his field of vision. He saw Josh Caskie wade into the melee. That pleased Tom cause now everyone except the CO was involved in the fight. It would be hard to discipline the whole compliment. Glancing around the room, the Battle had wound down. Jackson, for one, was glad it had. He hurt in places he didn't know he had! The Klingon he had fought came over and offered him a hand to get up. Speaking in Klingon's he told Tom "QA TLHO' (I thank You) and wrapped a massive arm around Tom and led him to the bar. The Klingon, named K'Tar, toasted the fight with "'oy' DaSIQjaj" (may you endure the pain). Tom raised his glass and said, tongue in cheek, "I don't have a choice do i?" and laughed. The wreckage was massive and he figured they'd all be paying for it for a long time to come. "Yes doctor," replied Matrix as he held his own head in agony. Matrix was unsure what hurt worse, the pain from the Klingon injury or the headache from the Romulan Ale. "Oh, that hurts" mumbled Matrix. "Well, this will heal up nicely, but you should reframe from taking on species that are much larger than you, Lieutenant." replied the EMH. "I was simply defending myself, he struck me first, thank you doctor...besides, I was referring to the headache from the ale...I'm not sure what's hurting worse at the moment." replied Matrix. "That serves you right, alcohol should be taken in reserved quantities, not until you're drunk...you crewmen always some complaining to me when you've had too much." replied the doctor as he put down the knitter. "There, the blood is cleaned up and I did a good job on the repair. You won't have a scar, and the pain will go away in a day or so. There was no damage to the muscle or bone." said the EMH has he turned to his console panel to enter the appointment in his logs. "Thank you doctor...at the risk of getting a lecture, can you give me something for this hangover?" ask Matrix with a grin. "Of course lieutenant, I had a hypo ready in anticipation of your request." replied the EMH. "You know the Captain and First officer will likely have something to say about this whole debacle in the lounge...and I hope some crew members will take note not to purposely invoke injury upon themselves. I have enough to do around here than play nursemaid when you all get drunk and injury yourself. I've seen twenty three crewmembers since yesterday." barked the EMH. "I concur doctor, but I was simply in the lounge at the time and got caught up in the 'festivities'...the headache is self inflicted and I'm paying for it in spades." replied Matrix. The doctor picked up the premade hypo and pressed it into Matrix's neck. With a distinctive hiss, the hypo released its contents with a sting. "This will take a few moments to take affect. I've added a series of vitamin A, B, C and D that will help you as well lieutenant." smirked the EMH. Matrix hopped off the exam table and rubbed his neck and his cheek. Thinking about how his life was about to change yet again. When his wife died, he was crushed in so many ways that he virtually at once began to become a different man. Oh so long ago it seemed; and yet he still mourned for her. T’Lela had been a Sub-Commander in the Romulan fleet during the Federation-Cardassian War. She and most of her crew had been captured by the enemy and sent to one of the more infamous POW complexes in Cardassian held territory. When Raschen (At the time he went by the name Temerarious) found out about her capture, Chance took it upon himself to mount a daring rescue. Unfortunately, his plan required him to be captured as well. During the escape Chance and T’Lela freed as many of the other prisoners as possible. During the withdraw back to the Star Hawk, an Orion for some reason decided to take-off with the ship and leave everyone else behind. T’Lela boarded the ship in an attempt to get him not to leave. Whatever she did worked, kind of. When Chance boarded the Star Hawk, he found her dead with some of her blood on the Orion and the disruptor pistol used to kill the privateer’s Romulan bride. A Klingon, Colonel Kree-Ton, secured the Orion; once the Star Hawk was off planet and safely on its way back to friendly territory; Chance grabbed a loose piece of pipe and literally beat the Orion to death. Kree-Ton stood by and watched as Chance got his revenge. As Chance returned to the cockpit of his ship, he heard the Klingon mutter “Never have I seen such fire as in Temerarious.” Two weeks later Chance landed on Romulus, at the Estate of Magistrate S'Adashiv, T’Lela’s Father. When Raschen moved the casket off his ship, S’Adashiv instinctively knew his daughter was inside. Raschen kneeled down before the Romulan Magistrate and explained how bravely his daughter died. He then grabbed the piece of pipe off of the sled used to unload the casket and held it up to his wife’s father “This is the interment I used to exact revenge on her killer. The blood is that of her murderer.” T’Lela’s father began to weep as he placed a hand on Chance’s shoulder and said to him “Now you have proven that you were worthy to be her husband, my son.” Chance pushed all those memories back and began to concentrate on the moment as he saw the familiar, supple form of his late wife T’Lela, but this time the body belonged to the alternate universe version of her. Physically, it was almost as if his wife had simply stepped out of the bathtub. Chance and T’Lela embraced each other, and she gave him a very passionate kiss. It felt good, but just didn’t feel quite right to him. Psychologically though, she was a different person. That was when Chance felt sure they were going to need some time to get to know one another. The only luggage she had her was a simple duffle bag in addition to the clothes she had on. Raschen took the duffle from her and carried it as they walked, talked, and got to know each other. Chance found out why T’Lela wanted to join him in his universe as opposed to remain in hers. He also found out that Admiral Heatherby was more than happy to give her a full dossier on him, but didn’t give Chance any information on T’Lela. After dinner, they spent the night together at the apartment that his family company, Impetuous Industries, kept rented. During his recovery there had been the matter of the Poseidon to be answered and its crew of two hundred and fifty officers who had died in the line of duty. That inquiry had been comprehensive as there had been no record of the ships last hours and minutes except for his own testimony. The logs of the lifepod which had been recovered had been entered into evidence as well and piecing them together had not been unfruitful, it had registered the departure of three other pods which had also been found along with eight of the ships crew, only two of which had survived. Those two officers had corroberated his testimony to the tribunal at a later time. The objectives of that mission had been clear and his actions perfectly in line with them. The findings had been straightforward of course, the Poseidon had been sent out alone on a suicide mission as starfleet records attested and every member of that crew had volunteered for the mission. The tribunals purpose was strictly for fact-finding, they did not have the power of court martial but at their discretion an affadavit for such could be forwarded to the JAG for review. Saleke considered that unlikely as much of the background for this mission had been sealed by the Judge Advocate General and StarFleet Intelligence and his actions during this mission had been well considered and logical. The sensitive nature of the investigation was apparent by the absence of all but those directly involved in the case. He noted that one sitting in this tribunal, Commodore Jaeger had sat in on his first. That the JAG officers had not been called back was not troubling, while not present they could not be called upon to share any information that might compromise the Admirals orders. This was an accepted and understood part of command, as Captain his actions were always subject to review, especially when it concerned the deaths of fleet personnel and since it had been only a little more than two years since Saleke had entered the fleet it had become expected. The striking of the chimes after their entrance signaled the beginning of the proceedings. "This tribunal board is now back in session. The witnesses may be seated." Saleke remained on his feet as Captain Salid sat down, his dispassionate attention remaining on Admiral Hanson and his hands clasped nehind his back. "Captain Saleke," The admiral began, " We have heard the testimony of Captain Salid state implicitly that he felt that there was no choice but to engage the Imperial starship Rosenante in the hopes of destroying the Omega device that they were about to deploy." "We have also heard that there were another series of extenuating circumstances prior to that encounter in which the Furious was forced to make emergency repairs prior to the engagement in order to be able to participate fully in that action. Considering all that was at risk captain, why is it that you declined to notify Starfleet command that a potential Omega weapon could have been deployed? Why is it that you chose instead not to seek additional assistance, but to endanger your ship and her crew in such a manner that negated the possibility of tactical reinforcements? Reinforcements I may add could have been instrumental in preventing the destruction of the Courageous with all hands?" The vulcan faced the review board emotionlessly but let his eyes engage each of them before he spoke. "The actions I took were well thought out and logical Admiral for a variety of reasons, some of which may not be voiced before this tribunal." "That the Furious and Rosenante would or could be successful in the engagement was not in doubt and command was kept informed of our movements and that of the alter Rosenante as soon as they became available. The Omega directive itself specifically and catagorically demands that the existence of the device remain secret, it was to that end that no transmission hinting at its existence was sent along with those reasons which as I said may not be entered into evidence." The admiral was not satisfied. "In your opinion then it was not necessary to call in reinforcements to deal with the ISS Rosenante considering the lives of billions were at stake?" Saleke cocked his head slightly and watched the Admiral closely. "I was aware that all the components needed for its manufacture had been taken and it was a logical conclusion that they were en-route to the system where they would deploy it, no number of starships had they been available could have stopped that deployment and the risk to other StarFleet personnel was prohibitive. It was also a matter of record that there were no ships close enough to tip the balance of the battle before it had reached its conclusion. Had it been necessary I would have sacrificed my life and my ship to insure to insure its destruction." "The inhabitants of that system had also been warned of the impending arrival of the Imperial starship and had dispatched ships to engage it as Captain Salid and I had requested. There was no logical reason to further call for reinforcements which could not logically benefit us during the engagement." "Captain Saleke I am becoming disturbed by your willingness to throw away lives during your mission." It was Commodore Jaeger. "I sat in this chamber only months ago when you testified about the destruction of the Poseidon." Admiral Hanson turned to the man. "Admiral Hanson you are out of order, Captain Saleke was cleared during that hearing regarding any dereliction of duty." "If I might speak." Saleke interjected. The Admiral nodded tersely. "Since the Commodore has brought up my past I would call attention to my record which has been unblemished, my actions have always been based on logic rather than expediency and the Omega directive leaves no room for interpretation, if the Commodore disagrees with that directive I submit that this tribunal is the wrong forum for such a disagreement." The Commodore colored at the remark but nodded in agreement when the Admiral turned toward him. "I understand the directive very well Admiral." Admiral Hanson turned his attention then to Salid. "Captain Salid you have heard Captain Saleke's testimony, do you have anything to add?" (Reply: Salid) (Posted by Charles) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva, Tribunal Office- CO- Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 5, 1618) As expected, Captain Saleke had no difficulty with making the logical arguments that needed to be made to support his decision. Vulcans were well known not to become impassioned when they were asked to cite their logic and Saleke was no exception to the rule. At a couple of points it was all Ahmed could do to keep from smiling at the way that Saleke outmaneuvered the commodore, who more likely than not was a self-imposed opponent of the Vulcan captain. Once that nasty bit of business was concluded, Admiral Hansen turned his attention back to Ahmed, "Captain Salid you have heard Captain Saleke's testimony, do you have anything to add?" Ahmed rose to his feet, gave a single nod and replied, "I do admiral." "Continue." the admiral authorized. "I would like to make it clear that the actions that were undertaken by the Furious as well as the Rosenante at Sunali II were not the sole decision of Captain Saleke. I myself played a significant role in reaching that course of action." "Additionally, As you can all surmise, the very existence of an Omega device carries with it a certain inherent danger. After all, there are a large number of resources and a very high degree of expertise that is needed to undertake such an operation." "Such an operation requires an organizational sensibility that would be difficult to build without skilled and expert advise and guidance." "It would have been illogical and irresponsible to request additional reinforcements, if only for the reasons that Captain Saleke has already stated. Any such reinforcements would have had one of two undesirable results." "The first would have been that we would have been forced to wait for their arrival, and that would have resulted in the destruction of the Sunali system as well as the needless deaths of Billions of the system's inhabitants. As well as the economic and political ramifications that would be sure to follow." "The second would have been that any reinforcements would have arrived in the system after the events had concluded. They would have been of no instrumental use to the outcome of the encounter and would have been pulled away from critical patrol positions or from other pressing duties needlessly." "I have no doubt that every officer on this tribunal recognizes the hazard that such a device represents. I also have no doubt that every officer present in this room, including Captain Saleke and Myself, would have done everything within their power to prevent the very tragedy that we went there to stop." "No officer here would have thought twice about putting their vessel in harms way to safeguard the countless lives of the Sunali inhabitants. They would have fulfilled their duty to the fullest potential possible. Risking their ships, their lives and the lives of their crew to protect the innocents of that system. It's what Starfleet officers do. And when we forget that, then we are no longer worthy to wear the uniform." "I ask only that the tribunal consider their oaths as officers and then ask themselves, if Captain Saleke and myself did all within our power to uphold those oaths." "If you find that we did not, then I ask that this tribunal strip us both of our rank and see to it that we are punished to the fullest extent of the law." "But if you find that we have done so, then I ask that you end this tribunal and allow Captain Saleke and myself to uphold the same oaths that you all took as officers of the Starfleet." Ahmed took a deep breath and then seated himself. He could see the pride in the faces of most of the tribunal's assembled officers. They understood his statements for what they were. They understood the desire to perform their duties. The same desire and dedication that Saleke and Salid had made their first priority. Even if the Vulcan captain would call it a logical thing to do rather than admitting it was a desire. Admiral Hanson rose from his seat, after a flurry of short messages between the various members of the Tribunal board, by PADD. It was not uncommon to have the board officers communicate ideas and even votes through such a medium while they sat at the table as opposed to taking another recess. "Captains Saleke and Salid, you shall both rise for the disposition of this tribunal." Ahmed once again rose to his feet. "This tribunal appreciates the complexities of command that Captains and flag officers must face daily in the pursuit of their duties. It has long been the tradition of any Tribunal to consider that fact that those on the board were not directly involved nor were they present at the events that often times led individuals through the doors of this chamber." "It is also the tradition of this board to make their judgment of a given case solely through facts. And while logic has it's place among all the proceedings in this chamber, sometimes it is just as important to understand the emotional side of things as well." "Captain Saleke has provided the facts with clarity and precision, an act that everyone on this tribunal can appreciate." "On the other hand captain Salid has provided testimony as to the emotional state of this undertaking, which although carries less weight than the pure facts of the situation, carries some weight none the less." "This tribunal would like to remind captain Salid that they do not require a reminder of their duties, and that they are well aware of the complexities of command as well as the unusual circumstances that can sometimes take place in the field." "While there is a distinct regret at losing even a single member of ship's crew. It is well understood that the vey nature of our service places us in peril. It is also understood that through the traditions of the authority invested in us as officers of the fleet, that we must from time to time make difficult decisions that will place those under our command directly into harm's way." "Sometimes there is no choice in this matter, and at other times there are. It is the belief of this tribunal by a vote of eight in favor and one opposing, that such a circumstance existed and that this circumstance forced Captain Saleke to make such a decision." "Whether that was the right decision or the wrong one is not for this tribunal to decide at this time. It is only our duty to determine if there was negligence or an inability to discharge the duties of the position of captain of the USS Furious, which may have resulted in a needless death of personnel and the loss of a vessel." The admiral paused, allowing his words to sink in. "Captain Saleke, it is the finding of this tribunal, that as captain of the USS Furious that you adequately weighed your options and faithfully discharged your duties as that vessel's captain. These findings absolve you of any wrongdoing or from a failure to adequately discharge the duties and responsibilities of your rank. The loss of the courageous, while mournful, is hereby found to be caused by no fault of your, whether through inappropriate action or inaction. This tribunal hereby finds no further reason to detain you from continuing to fulfill the duties of captain of the USS Furious." The admiral smiled. "The federation is honored to have yourself and Captain Salid within the ranks of the Fleet. This tribunal is now abjured." With those last words the Admiral picked up the small brass hammer and struck the small matching bell in three short strokes. The members of the tribunal smiling, rose and left the chamber. Only one, Commodore Jaeger, paused for a moment, glowering at Saleke, before making himself scarce. When only Saleke and Salid remained behind, Ahmed stepped over to the Vulcan captain. "Congratulations Captain." he offered. (reply Saleke) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva, Tribunal Office- Captain Saleke, Day 5, 1625) Saleke listened closely to Captain Salid's passionate expostulation as he continued to face the tribunals members, to look away would have been a breach of discipline as well as etiquette. In the short time he had come to know the captain of middle eastern descent from Terra he had found him to be fiery and emotional as well as passionate and while logic was his own driving force he respected the man for his dedication both to his duty and to the ideals of the Federation under which they served. His gift of oratory could not be denied and while his points were emotionally charged they were also logically ordered and delivered. After his closing remarks it was obvious that the assembled members of the tribunal had been affected by his impassioned plea but their decision would not be swayed by emotion. Only the facts derived by accumulated testimony would be weighed in their decision and all of the pertinent facts had been delivered during the testimony of the two captains, those facts at least that were not sealed by orders. During the minutes that the assembled officers took to communicate with one another on their coming decision he sat before them outwardly untroubled and calm, his face registering nothing as his eyes moved slowly over each one in turn. "Captains Saleke and Salid, you shall both rise for the disposition of this tribunal." Both captains rose to their feet, Captain Salid despite his request to be included in their decision was not the one upon whom the judgement of the council would fall. And while logic has it's place among all the proceedings in this chamber, sometimes it is just as important to understand the emotional side of things as well." "Captain Saleke has provided the facts with clarity and precision, an act that everyone on this tribunal can appreciate." Saleke accepted the compliment with a nod. "On the other hand captain Salid has provided testimony as to the emotional state of this undertaking, which although carries less weight than the pure facts of the situation, carries some weight none the less." The rebuff of one of Salid's points was expected though delivered without rancor, the Admiral seemed unsurprised that it had been delivered and it was logical to assume he had faced such before. "While there is a distinct regret at losing even a single member of ship's crew. It is well understood that the vey nature of our service places us in peril. It is also understood that through the traditions of the authority invested in us as officers of the fleet, that we must from time to time make difficult decisions that will place those under our command directly into harm's way." This was both the weight and responsibility of command and it had broken many captains in their time. The decisions made during times of crisis could not be undone and sometimes led to tragedy and disaster to a greater or lesser extent. Saleke had lost almost the full complement of one ship due to unswerving dedication to his orders and one hundred and twenty five in the last mission. Did he regret those losses? If anyone were to ask him they might be surprised at the answer since despite his embrace of logic he understood only too well that deep inside his mind there remained a kernel, a nugget of thought that did indeed register regret at the snuffing out of human life on such a scale under his command. And he would not deny it, it was illogical to do so. In counterbalance however was the knowledge that everything he had done, every move, every decision had been undertaken with the utmost care to minimize the loss of life that must inevitably come during battle. He also understood that it was the loss of those lives that had complicated the decision to allow the ISS Rosenante to return to her own universe but he had supported the plan because in the end game to have forced that Rosenante to remain here would have jeapordized many more lives in the future. Justice then for the few must give way to justice for all or it is not justice at all. "Sometimes there is no choice in this matter, and at other times there are. It is the belief of this tribunal by a vote of eight in favor and one opposing, that such a circumstance existed and that this circumstance forced Captain Saleke to make such a decision." To the vulcan the decision was foregone, that one was in disagreement was unexpected. "Whether that was the right decision or the wrong one is not for this tribunal to decide at this time. It is only our duty to determine if there was negligence or an inability to discharge the duties of the position of captain of the USS Furious, which may have resulted in a needless death of personnel and the loss of a vessel." The admiral paused for a moment but the decision had already been given, the next dissertation was the formal declaration . This tribunal hereby finds no further reason to detain you from continuing to fulfill the duties of captain of the USS Furious." Saleke nodded at the admiral in recognition of the formal finding. The admiral then smiled. "The federation is honored to have yourself and Captain Salid within the ranks of the Fleet. This tribunal is now adjourned." With those last words the Admiral picked up the small brass hammer and struck the small matching bell in three short strokes. Saleke watched impassively as the tribunal members filed from the room, all seeming to be satisfied with the decision save one, Commodore Jaeger turned and glowered at the vulcan before making his way out, he followed the exit with a quirked eyebrow. This was one of the expected pitfalls of emotion, to allow ones passion to be misdirected despite the weight of accumulated evidence. It was said that to be a Captain in StarFleet you would have at some point to make enemies, whether this man was or would become an enemy in the future would become clear in time as would the validity of that adage. The room was now empty save for himself and Captain Salid. "Congratulations Captain." Saleke relaxed his posture and turned to him, his eyes locking on those of the other man as he extended his hand. "It is customary to thank someone who has lent their support during a critical period." As he waited he continued. "Thank you Captain." (Reply: Salid) (Posted by Charles) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva, Tribunal Office- CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 5, 1628) "Congratulations Captain." Saleke relaxed his posture and turned to him, his eyes locking on those of the other man as he extended his hand. "It is customary to thank someone who has lent their support during a critical period." As he waited he continued. "Thank you Captain." Ahmed smiled and took the outstretched hand of the Vulcan Captain and shook it. "It was my pleasure Captain Saleke. I'm glad I could be of service." Salid gestured towards the exit of the tribunal offices, "I'd say that Commodore Jaeger has a bone to pick with you, if I'm not mistaken. I'd be wary of him, he's a good officer, but has a tendency to let his personal feelings get in the way of the facts. If he's decided that you're a bad apple, he'll be trouble for you for a long while to come." (reply Saleke) The doors hissed open into the general bustle of the administrative offices of the station. There were yeomen everywhere, hurrying with due diligence from post to post keeping the wheels of the fleet turning day in and day out. Ahmed nodded at one of the young pretty yeomen that passed them as they headed for the promenade. "You know I should really get me one of those." He commented off-handedly. (reply Saleke) Ahmed reddened suddenly, "No, not a woman." he replied with a short shake of his head, "I meant a yeoman. I spend way too much time doing paperwork it seems and not enough time actually commanding." A short pause, "Besides, she's way too young for me." then he smiled. (reply Saleke) Ahmed let out a short chuckle as the two officers stepped out onto the promenade, they stopped several feet from the administrative offices. The station's inhabitants simply parted around them as they continued on their way. "Well captain, I can't express my gratitude enough for your help with the last bit of business. I can only assume that you are under similar orders not to discuss that which we can not discuss." (reply Saleke) "Maybe we should have a bite to eat. We've been in that tribunal all morning and personally I'm famished. Maybe you and I could sit down, have an early dinner and just talk for a while. Do you know a good restaurant here? And if so would you care to join me?" (reply Saleke) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva, Tribunal Office- Captain Saleke, Day 5, 1630) Salid gestured towards the exit of the tribunal offices, "I'd say that Commodore Jaeger has a bone to pick with you if I'm not mistaken. "Emotional beings can become irrational if those emotions are allowed to rule their decision making process however as long as I use logic to govern my steps I trust that there will be no foothold for detractors to use against me." The chamber was large but the walk to the doors was a short one. "The more pressing matter as I see it concerns a certain matter of which we are not allowed to discuss." Ahmed nodded at one of the young pretty yeomen that passed them as they headed for the promenade. "You know I should really get me one of those." He commented, seeming distracted. "A female?" The vulcan cocked an eyebrow sideways at him "Or an aide? Romantic entanglements are generally recognized as a distraction for a command crew." Ahmed reddened suddenly, "No, not a woman." he replied with a short shake of his head, "I meant a yeoman. I spend way too much time doing paperwork it seems and not enough time actually commanding." A short pause, "Besides, she's way too young for me." then he smiled. Saleke nodded in understanding. "Though the term is archaic and outmoded and seeing as paper is generally not used I understand the reference. Reports and briefings along with the prolific data generated has a way of consuming the time available for a Captain, an officer assigned to collate the material and highlight items of interest is preferable." The two men stopped on the promenade and the moving sea of beings parted to flow around them as the other captain gave a chuckle denoting an amused state. "Well captain, I can't express my gratitude enough for your help with the last bit of business. I can only assume that you are under similar orders not to discuss that which we can not discuss." 'Indeed, the admiral was quite specific on the matter though the logic he used concerning the 'gag order' quite escapes me." "Maybe we should have a bite to eat. We've been in that tribunal all morning and personally I'm famished. Maybe you and I could sit down, have an early dinner and just talk for a while. Do you know a good restaurant here? And if so would you care to join me?" Saleke gave a nod of his head. "There is one establishment here which has a varied cuisine and its fare is notable. If you would be so good as to join me." (Starbase Geneva, The Inverness Cafe- Captain Saleke, Day 5, 1635) The name of the establishment was understated considering the expansive menu and its seating areas were large. The room in the rear was dimly lighted and suited for those on off-duty status and romantic interludes which was why the two men had found a table in the forward area near the entrance. This area was well lighted, generally more crisply waited on by the staff and more condusive to conversation. The highly glossed with linen table mats normally had seating for four but as it was still early and the two men had expressed an interest in a less cramped space it had been cheerfully offered. The waitress had been bustling about insuring their comfort before taking up a postion between the two. "Gentlemen welcome to the Inverness, it is a special occasion to have two captains grace our establishment. What drinks would you like?" (Reply: Salid) "Iced Denuvian tea for myself with cinnamon." Saleke ordered. "Thank you sirs, I will bring your drinks while you consider the menu, would you care for an appetizer before ordering your main course?" (Reply: Salid) The vulcan opened his mouth to decline but changed his mind. "An order of stuffed mushrooms for the table." "Very good sirs, I shall be back shortly." With that the shapely woman left to take care of their immedite needs. Saleke made no move to pick up the menu in the interimn. "Their selection of Vulcan dishes is noteworthy however I have also been told their beef dishes are extremely tender as well as lightly spiced and are comprised of meat shipped into the station and not replicated. If you desire meat then I would recommend it." (Reply: Salid) As they waited for the drinks Saleke offered a compliment to Salid. "Captain we have not had a chance to discuss the battle with the ISS ship before now, your handling of the situation was exemplary and you have my compliments. (Reply: Salid) "I understand you and your crew have been together for quite some time and you work well together, unfortunately I cannot say the same. The ship I was given command of during the war was well acquainted with one another but those on the Furious are not. It will take some time to bring it to optimal efficiency." (Reply: Salid) (Posted by Charles) ------------------------- (Starbase Geneva, The Inverness Café- CO Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 5, 1637) The place was impeccable, classy without an overbearing atmosphere. Glass, and polished hard woods dominated the restaurant and was only matched by the even more exquisite layout of the place. A variety of semi-secluded alcoves promised a moment or two of privacy for young lovers should they be so inclined, yet at the same time allowed a sense of connection to the rest of the establishment. The two captains had assumed a table normally reserved for a party of four. The place was busy, although not hectically slow and they hostess was more than glad to see to it that they were readily accommodated. "Gentlemen welcome to the Inverness, it is a special occasion to have two captains grace our establishment. What drinks would you like?" "I'd like a glass of pomegranate juice please." Ahmed replied, "Over ice." "Iced Denuvian tea for myself with cinnamon." Saleke ordered. "Thank you sirs, I will bring your drinks while you consider the menu, would you care for an appetizer before ordering your main course?" "I'm game if you are, " Ahmed said, cocking a single eyebrow at the Vulcan. "An order of stuffed mushrooms for the table." the Vulcan decided. "Very good sirs, I shall be back shortly." With that the shapely woman left to take care of their immediate needs. "Their selection of Vulcan dishes is noteworthy however I have also been told their beef dishes are extremely tender as well as lightly spiced and are comprised of meat shipped into the station and not replicated. If you desire meat then I would recommend it." Saleke advised after the waitress had left. "Now that sounds like a good idea. I can't really remember the last time I had a good steak." Ahmed replied in appreciation of the suggestion. "Captain we have not had a chance to discuss the battle with the ISS ship before now, your handling of the situation was exemplary and you have my compliments." "While I appreciate the compliment Captain. I wouldn't consider my actions exemplary. I am well aware that I am no tactical genius when it comes down to it. I have a good crew, that makes all the difference." Salid countered. "I understand you and your crew have been together for quite some time and you work well together, unfortunately I cannot say the same. The ship I was given command of during the war was well acquainted with one another but those on the Furious are not. It will take some time to bring it to optimal efficiency." Ahmed nodded. "The Furious performed well. Her crew and her captain handled themselves well. It was a tough fight, and I'll be honest, I wasn't certain that even with two ships that we were going to pull it off. But we did. We managed to beat the very long odds and put a stop to the situation before a lot of lives were lost." He paused for a moment as the waitress brought back their drinks, thanked her and they both ordered their meals. "As I was saying," Ahmed returned to his previous comment, "I just pray to Allah that we didn't sacrifice so much only to have it come back to bite us later." The conversation took on an interesting twist as the two captains continued their conversation through the evening and into the late hours of the night. The majority of the officers were already there. ~ It seems I will have to show up a little earlier next time.~ She sat down in her chair, next to Commander Caskie, and briefly greeted everyone already in attendance. Her hand still hurt from the altercation that her and about half the crew got into on the station. That mound of paperwork was just now clearing, and T'Larah was beginning to see her desk again. ~That paperwork was not as bad surely as Chance's, Josh's or especially Captain Salid's. I'm glad that I didn't have to do their share.~ "Doctor Ichijo, my hand is still a little stiff from that night in The Lonely Tribble, do you mind if I stop by sick-bay after the meeting to get it checked out?" she asked. (Reply Dr Ichijo) Soon, the Captain showed through the doors to the O-lounge he started the briefing very shortly. "Good afternoon everyone." The captain began. "We have a great deal to cover today, but before we get into the departmental status reports, there is something of a serious nature that needs to be said." ~Has all the paper work from the bar fight caught up with us?~ she wondered but said nothing. "As some of you already know, I have spent the majority of our time here in Dock in meetings with the Admiralty, on the topic of our last mission. There were several conversations of a highly classified nature on a highly classified subject. Those of you in this room who were there know of what I am speaking for those that were not there, you do not need to know." he continued. ~Good, nothing at all, it seems everyone had fought in self defense, and he is speaking of the last mission, not the Tribble.~ The Captain paused then continued the elaboration. "Orders have been passed down. These orders are not entirely to my liking, but they are lawful and so will be obeyed. These orders immediately prevent the discussion of information or events recently undertaken, by either this ship or the USS Furious, specifically concerning all events, personnel and situations leading up to our conflict in the Sunali system. We are hereby ordered to purge all personal logs making mention of any of these events, places, people or things. Only the Official logs of the Rosenante are to remain intact but are to be encrypted for access by the captain and First officer only." ~I don't need to look at them, I remember what happened, and I don't need to talk about it.~ "Failure to abide by this order will result in immediate arrest and trial by special tribunal for violation of the Federation National Security Act. I have been advised that a severe penalty will be sought in any such tribunal, not to exclude the death sentence should the violation be severe." Ahmed held up his hand. "The subject that we are speaking of is very volatile, and while the death penalty is rarely sought, in this instance it makes sense." "There will be no discussion, no mention of this at all. Not in logs, not in private and not in public unless you are prepared to suffer the consequences. Captain Saleke and I will be filing a formal protest and are prepared to fight the issuance of this order as much as possible within the confines of the law allowed us." "Within the next few minutes, each of you present will receive a written confirmation of this order, separately and privately. If you sign an acknowledgment of these orders, you are immediately bound by them until such time as they are revoked. These orders will be in effect even after you should leave Starfleet." "Should you choose not to acknowledge these orders, I have been given instructions that you are to be detained and turned over to Starfleet intelligence and the JAG Corps for immediate trial before a special tribunal." "It is my recommendation that you all sign the acknowledgment of your orders and allow Captain Saleke and myself to work on this issue through official channels." The Captain continued presenting some promotions to Ensign, which in light of their performance was well deserved. He spoke of the transfers and the dissolving of the 3O position. T'Larah remembered her own time as third and all that she learned. ~That is too bad, it was a great learning position for prospective senior officers.~ He then turned over the briefing to Commander Caskie. "I need an update on every department regarding you readiness, repair status and crew disposition. Perhaps we should begin with Engineering. Mr Rixx would you care to begin please. Then the rest of you may chime in as you please." (Reply Ensign Rixx, room for more, IYW) When she was finished T'Larah interjected with her status report. "Tactical systems are all nominally repaired, thanks to efforts of station and our own damage control and engineering teams. Phasers were upgraded with mark XIV phaser emitters, which will allow us finer control. All photons and quantums and probes have been replaced, we are fully stocked." (Reply any) (Posted by Todd) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Observation Lounge- Esn Kimiko Ichijo, Day 9, 1355) Kimiko sat the table, scrolling though her PADD, reviewing the information to insure that she could answer any question posed ~So long that it has nothing to do about the Lonely Tribble~ Kimiko thought, her memory still pretty hazy about that night. She rose as the captain entered the room with a few boxes and a PADD and sat back down after he sat. "Good afternoon everyone." The captain began. "We have a great deal to cover today, but before we get into the departmental status reports, there is something of a serious nature that needs to be said." The captain looked pretty serious as he stated the disclaimers, Kimiko listened intently, knowing that it was probably something unpleasant. The Captain stated that disclosure of information for the battle with our evil twin was a capital offence, which was odd, since it would be difficult to hide the fact that ‘federation’ vessel was raping and pillaging the galaxy. ~Ours in not to reason why~ Kimiko thought sardonically, however at the mention of purging information, she perked up. “Excuse me, sir.” The doctor spoke up “You stated that we needed to purge all records, but official logs, what about medical logs and treatment records” (Reply Salid) “I see” the doctor replied “Thank you” Dr Ichijo watched the rest of the proceedings with polite attention, she was hardly surprised that the Chief Engineer would not be able to resume his duties, if fact the very survival of the engineer was impressive and owing no little amount to providence. "In a similar manner, although for a more personal reason, Lieutenant Wyler will be returning to Geneva station with her children. BUPERS has already decided and I agree that Ensign Ichijo shall assume the position of Acting Chief Medical Officer of the Rosenante. In addition, Miss Ichijo has been promoted to the rank of Ensign Senior Grade with all the privileges and responsibilities associated with this increase of rank. Ensign Ichijo, step forward please." The doctor rose from her seat and walked over to the Captain Ahmed, removed the single hollow rank pip from Ichijo's collar and placed it in her hand. He then opened one of the cherry wood boxes, removed a single solid rank pip and placed it on her collar. "Congratulations Ensign." “Thank you, sir” Kimiko replied, her mind whirling with all of the implications that this promotion entailed. (Reply Salid) (Posted by Jack) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - aCEO - Ensign(sg) Mitena Rixx - Day 9 - 1356) Mitena hurried into the room and took the first empty seat she came to. While not technically late, she'd felt like she'd been running behind all day. Starting with her alarm not being set because she'd forgotten to set it the night before. Thankfully, she hadn't been late to duty shift. But it had set a precedent for the entire day. She'd felt like she was perpetually fifteen minutes behind at any given time. She gave a smile and a nod to the officers she sat down next to and waited for the Captain to appear and begin the briefing. There was hardly any wait as the captain entered not long after she had. The captain's very severe tone regarding the orders he'd been given to pass along to the crew obviously hadn't set well with him and he seemed very displeased to even have to mention them. Though, she guess that given the situation there was most likely a good reason that the admiralty had decided how they had on the issue. And since that was all well above her grade, she was just as certain that there wasn't much that she could say or do about if she had the notion to act. "...I don't need a medal pinned to your uniform to tell me what sort of officers you all are. That said, to hell with the board." The captain said. Mitena couldn't help but smile. "Lieutenant Morrow this ship's CEO has been transferred to Geneva Station for medical treatment. BUPERS has decided and a wholly agree that Ensign Rixx shall be the acting Chief Engineer for the Rosenante beginning immediately. In addition, Ensign Rixx is hereby promoted to the rank of Ensign Senior Grade with all the privileges and responsibilities associated with this increase of rank. Ensign Rixx, step forward please." She frown slightly at the mention of Lieutenant Morrow's extended stay on Geneva. She'd been by the medical bay a couple times to see him, but he'd been resting both times. It took her just a moment to realize exactly what the captain had said. She quickly stood up and stepped forward as requested. A bright smile took the place of the frown that had been there moments before. "Congratulations, Ensign." The captain said, once he'd replaced her pip. "Thank you, Sir." Mitena said. She returned to her seat to listen to the rest of the briefing. She was pleased that she'd done her job well enough to have not only been promoted in rank, but to have been put officially into the position of acting Chief Engineer. It is also my honor to confirm your appointment to that of acting Chief Science officer of the USS Rosenante." "Thank you Sir." Benoit replied. "Ensign Lopez, please step forward." Ahmed called out. Sam stood up and headed to the captain. "Ensign, in recognition of your contribution to the health and well being of the crew of the USS Rosenante, as well as your contributions to the fleet and the ideals of Starfleet, I hereby promote you to the rank of Ensign Senior Grade with all the privileges and responsibilities associated with this increase of rank." Once the Captain arrived he got down to the meat and bones of the meeting immediately. Josh managed to keep her expression under control as he began issuing orders regarding their previous mission. It did not come as a surprise to Josh since she, as FO, had already been served notice about it, so she simply sat there with a smile on her face and allowed her gaze to sweep around the room noting all the reactions. As the promotions and the welcomes were dealt with Josh clapped and smiled in all the appropriate places and then when the Captain asked her to take over the next part of the meeting she rose to her feet. Then the rest of you may chime in as you please." Mitena hadn't really expected to go first, but she had her data all pulled together for the department, thanks to Lieutenant Matrix's much welcome help. "I am pleased to report that the necessary repairs are all on schedule. All of the larger repairs are complete and there are only a few minor repairs that are ongoing at this time. We should be 100% operational within the next twelve hours." She said with a smile and a nod as she completed her brief comments. He began. "Currently, we are completing an inventory of our lab equipment. We are also completing post mission analysis of the data we received from the Patronic Shield and Omega Device." He looked towards Rixx. "We do have some bandwidth available, if Engineering needs any extra hands." (Reply any in the room.) (Posted by Morgan Belcher) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Observation Lounge- aCMO Esn Kimiko Ichijo, Day 9, 1409) Listening to the other reports, Kimiko wondered if her report would be as concise and relevant as theirs, she realized that it was her decision what would be announced, the SO was not looking from any particular format or data, except what bits and pieces that may affect the smooth operation of the ship. With that thought in mind, she rearranged her notes. Even with half an ear on the proceedings, she belatedly noticed the pause in reports. Kimiko noticed that SO was looking at her expectedly. “Excuse me” The doctor mumbled “Medical currently has two patients in sickbay for 24 hour observation, all of our long term patients have been transferred to onstation treatment facilities” Kimiko ticked off the salient points mentally “Most of the non-replicatable consumables have been replenished, except for a couple of exotics. We are anticipating complete replenishment by the end of gamma shift. And finally, with the influx and departure of personal, I am not seeing that all medical administration is current, until most likely, the end of the week” Kimiko glanced back to her PADD to see if she left anything out and sat back down (Reply None) (Posted by Jack) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Observation Lounge- ACSO Loius Remey , Day 9,1410) The Captain threw out what was perhaps the most interesting part of the meeting at the beginning "Orders have been passed down. These orders immediately prevent the discussion of information or events recently undertaken, by either this ship or the USS Furious, specifically concerning all events, personnel and situations leading up to our conflict in the Sunali system. "Failure to abide by this order will result in immediate arrest and trial by special tribunal for violation of the Federation National Security Act. I have been advised that a severe penalty will be sought in any such tribunal, not to exclude the death sentence should the violation be severe." Louis' eyes got a but wide at that. ~What did these two ships get themselves involved in? Sounds serious, not that I'll ever be able to find out, don't think I WANT to know either.~ "The subject that we are speaking of is very volatile, and while the death penalty is rarely sought, in this instance it makes sense." ~Damn! Make that certainly don't want to know.~ "There will be no discussion, no mention of this at all. Not in logs, not in private and not in public unless you are prepared to suffer the consequences. "It is my recommendation that you all sign the acknowledgment of your orders and allow Captain Saleke and myself to work on this issue through official channels." As he paused Louis stifled the urge to whistle nervously, this wasn't the time or place. After that the Captain shifted gears and began handing out promotions despite Admirality orders. ~Something strange going on here and a big dispute with the brass, glad I'm not involved. I'm sure these people deserve the recognition.~ He clapped politely along with the others as the awards were handed out till the Captain got to Ensign Benoit whom he had met along with those others in the lounge. "Ensign, in recognition of your contribution to the crew of the USS Furious and on behalf of captain Saleke, I hereby promote you to the rank of Ensign Senior Grade with all the privileges and responsibilities associated with this increase of rank. It is also my honor to confirm your appointment to that of acting Chief Science officer of the USS Rosenante." "Aha! My boss then, congrats. Who is this Captain Saleke anyway?~ He smiled and nodded at Benoit as he accepted his promotion. That was followed by a demotion which was sobering, this Captain was all business. "There have been a couple of other positional changes within the ranks of the senior staff of the USS Rosenante." "Effective Immediately the position of third Officer as an independent post is no longer recognized. As such, Lieutenant Nayati will retain his rank, although his positional authority as this ship's third officer is no longer recognized. This is a result of a recent positional restructuring undertaken by BUPERS and in no way reflects any inability by Mister Nayati to fulfill the requirements of that august office." "At present he is being offered an opportunity to decide if he would like to remain in the counseling department or to transfer to the security department. This has not yet been decided. Once it is, I will see to it that the decision is announced." Then came the transfer of Lieutenant Matrix to the Rose, Louis clapped with the rest. "Also, Ensign Louis Remey has joined us from the USS Hanspir. Ensign Remey will be assigned to the science department as Assistance Chief Science Officer under Ensign Benoit. Welcome aboard Mister Remey." Louis popped to his feet only long enough to say. "Thank you Captain." And give the rest of the officers a smile and nod before resuming his seat. "Another pair of positional changes. Ensign Nunez has been transferred from the ATRADOC department to the Security Depart. She will be assuming the position of ASEC under Lieutenant Raschen beginning immediately. Chief Haverstaadt has taken up the previous post of ATRADOC Officer. These changes are effective immediately. "Lieutenant Tollian Yalix will be joining our Operations department in the capacity of Assistant Operations Officer under the command of Lieutenant Jackson. Mister Yalix comes to us from the USS Boudicca. Welcome aboard." "Thank you captain," the Efrosian replied. Additionally, "Lieutenant Commander Matthew McLaren also previously from the USS Boudicca will be filling the position of Advanced theoretical technologies Officer. Although independent of the engineering department, Mister McLaren has expressed a desire to aid them as needed. He has served as the Chief engineer aboard both Starbase Geneva and the USS Boudicca. Welcome aboard Mister McLaren." "Thank you sir. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all." Ahmed nodded at the Texan. "Alright, now that all the promotions, transfers and departmental shifts are taken care of lets discuss the Departmental Status." Commander Caskie, If you would kindly take the floor and handle that portion of the briefing I would appreciate it." This would be interesting, Louis sat back in his seat and watched as the Commander began took the floor. (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - Lt Raschen - Day 9 – 1410.5) Raschen had been a late comer to the meeting. Chance shook his head and quietly said, mainly to himself “To quote Mr. Stephen Hopkins of the Second Continental Congress ‘In all my years, I ain’t never seen, heard, or smelled an issue that was so dangerous it couldn’t be talked about.’ I understand Starfleet’s decision, I still think it’s a crock, but I understand it.” (Reply any iyw) As the promotions and the welcomes were dealt with Raschen, like others, clapped and smiled in all the appropriate places and then when the Captain asked Commander Caskie to take over the next part of the meeting she rose to her feet. Tom gently touched his right eye - he had a black eye that was very promenate and still a bit sore. The meeting began. Tom enjoyed seeing deserving shipmates get promoted. Jackson also was glad to see that OPS had another staff member. The departmental reports began. Tactical was in decent shape. Some of the things Lt Cmdr Sullivan reported weapon systems were nominal. It was the turn of the Operations Department next. Tom rose and spoke. "Working with Cmdr Sullivan, I concur with the weapons system statuses. Once complete repairs are completed, I suggest we get permission to test fire them and exercise the targeting systems at the fleet firing rang" Tom paused for questions. "I see" the doctor replied "Thank you" The report form the engineering department was excellent. Ahmed was pleased that the engineering crew had managed to maintain their schedule despite all the bureaucratic hassle that they had received from Geneva Yard control. Likewise sciences, tactical, and operations were all very good. "Working with Cmdr Sullivan, I concur with the weapons system statuses. I know that a great many personnel volunteered to pull additional duty hours which is why I was so very happy to issue a consecutive four days of shore leave for all personnel." "That said, I expect a great deal from my officers. Perhaps more than some other Starfleet captains. I expect professionalism, skill, and a great deal of good judgment. This is especially true of my senior officers." Ahmed reached down and picked up the PADD that he had carried into the briefing. "I expect a certain amount of wild abandon from the enlisted personnel in this crew. That's just the way of things, but when I receive a report from station administration that my senior most officers, including my own first officer, did not have common sense not to get involved in of all things a bar fight in a civilian establishment while on their shore leave, I have to ask myself what may have happened." "Now I could ask you each to explain yourselves. I could bring you all up on conduct unbecoming or some other charge, but the point is I shouldn't have to even consider that." "But when Commodore Jaeger calls me into his office to present me with this report of an incident that took place nine days ago and then proceeds to grill me for over an hour about how I obviously do not know how to discipline my crew. And how they are all reckless reprobates who should be drummed from service, what am I to do?" "I'll tell you what I'm going to do." His gaze fell across every member of his senior staff. "I'm going to remind you all of an adage that you should have all learned in the academy, and that is 'Do as you wish, but don't get caught.'" "Well now you've been caught and it's time to pay the piper. Effective immediately all shore leave is hereby cancelled. All personnel are to immediately report back to the ship within the hour." "All senior officers will stand ready for a personal inspection by yours truly. Not of your sections, but of your personal quarters. If you want to act like cadets you will be treated like cadets." "Each of you that participated in the 'entertainment' will serve 1 hour each day after your duty shift in the brig for the next two weeks. Those same officers will report to each of their off-duty shifts for their department for one hour off-rotation duty, for a period of one week. I will also be assigning each of the participants extra duty as I see fit, until I am convinced that the point is made. All participants will also be docked a number of credits from your personal pay which will be used to settle all damages at the Lonely Tribble Lounge." "Don't get me wrong, I am not upset that you found yourself in a bar fight, or that you damaged the premises, I am however very irritated that none of you reported the incident to me, and as a result I was blind-sided by the commodore and given no option. I will have you all know that I was all but ordered to have each of you court-martialled. You should consider yourselves very lucky." "Commander Caskie, please remain behind, everyone else is dismissed." (reply Caskie, all) Daniel Greene ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - FO- Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 9- 1443) "Commander Caskie, please remain behind, everyone else is dismissed." Josh simply nodded. "Yes Sir. The rest of you are dismissed. You may leave now." She took a deep breath knowing what was coming and simply looked up at Ahmed. "Sir, I apologise for everything that happened that night. As the senior officer there everything that happened was my responsibility and I take full responsibility for it." "However once I realised that a fight had broken out I asked one of the nurses to contact security. She did so immediately. They never replied. "The Commodore might find it pertinent to review his security procedures Sir. In my opinion they are lax. I apologise for what happened Sir. None of our personnel were not guilty and not one of them would disagree, however, as far as I am aware the Klingons started the fight and every single one of our people defended themselves because it was appropriate to do so." (Reply Salid) (Posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - CO- Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 9- 1445) Jennifer took a deep breath knowing what was coming and simply looked up at Ahmed. "Sir, I apologize for everything that happened that night. As the senior officer there everything that happened was my responsibility and I take full responsibility for it." "However once I realized that a fight had broken out I asked one of the nurses to contact security. She did so immediately. They never replied. "The Commodore might find it pertinent to review his security procedures Sir. In my opinion they are lax." "I apologize for what happened Sir. None of our personnel were not guilty and not one of them would disagree, however, as far as I am aware the Klingons started the fight and every single one of our people defended themselves because it was appropriate to do so." "Thank you commander, but I have no doubt that things were beyond the immediate control of the crew of my ship. I am also aware that Commodore Jaeger is trying to push by buttons. I was under orders to carry out a discipline of those officers directly involved in that fight. You'll note that it took me nine days to call for an immediate cancellation of shore leave? By that time every single person on this ship had already completed their allotted time." He gave her a smile. "The reason that I asked you to stay was not to give you a chewing out, commander. It was to give you some additional orders. I want it quietly passed that none of the officers are to report to the Brig for their allotted time. I will see to it that the brig logs say otherwise, so that Commodore Jaeger can stew in his own juices for all I care. I will not have a desk jockey dictate how I should discipline my own crew." Ahmed's smile waned somewhat. The reason for that last bit at the briefing was because the commodore ordered that I record the disciplinary portion of the briefing so that he could have it on file. The only part of that discipline I want to see carried out id the docking of pay. You're familiar I'm certain with the old adage, you break it, you buy it?" Ahmed did not wait for her to answer. "Well we bought this one." "As for station security, I have a good reason to believe that the commodore ordered the security teams not to respond. He captain Saleke and I did not exactly see eye to eye during the tribunal." "See to it that these adjustments are made to the orders I issued at the briefing, and Let everyone know that I'll be conducting those inspections the day after I leave service." "If I didn't trust you Jennifer, you wouldn't be my first officer. If I had any lack of faith in any of my officers to conduct themselves using good judgment, I will most certainly address it. I have no reservations for any members of this crew. Not the enlisted nor the officers. " "It was a fight, it wasn't a murder." He smiled again. "Feel free to let the crew know the whys and whats of that mission." "You are dismissed commander." Rosenante – Bridge – CSEC- LT Chance Raschen - 0930) Raschen, after extensive consideration about the organization and makeup of the Rosenante’s security, he finally finished writing up his requests for the changes he wanted on his department’s Mission Table of Organization and Equipment, or MTOE for short. He even slipped in an additional request concerning the uniforms of some of his personnel. Raschen entered the bridge looking for the skipper, but found Commander Caskie instead. When Chance approached her, she seemed to be more busy than usual. So he just stood by until she acknowledged him. (Reply Caskie) He held a PADD up as he started speaking “Yes ma’am; I have something here that requires the skipper’s signature. Actually, it’s a few some things.” He finished with a smirk. (Reply Caskie iyw) Standing with one hand behind his back as he handed her the PADD with the other, the security chief began to explain “Well Commander, one is a request for change of my department’s MTOE. With a request to have a squad of Starfleet Rangers assigned to security. Rosenbauer’s old crew preferably.” (Reply Caskie iyw) “This next request is an exception to policy about Marines having to change to Fleet which leads into my next change of MTOE request ma’am; I’d like a squad of Marines placed in my department as well. The second exception to policy request concerns the uniforms of Marines placed in the Security Department; still Marines, but in gold uniforms with Marine Corps rank on the collar, or at least the Marine Corps emblem placed on the collar opposite of the fleet rank insignia.” (Reply Caskie iyw) “The idea behind that one is that it adheres to uniformity, yet maintains unit cohesion. And now for my last change of MTOE request is that the security department have on hand the same specialized combat equipment that the Marines and Rangers get issued.” (Reply Caskie) (Reply Caskie) Posted by Charlie ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - FO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - 0932) Josh was sitting in her chair on the Bridge working steadily through a pile of padds when something on the periphery of her vision caught her attention. Looking up she was surprised to see Lt Raschen standing in front of her. Placing the padd she was presently reading down, she smiled at him. "Lieutenant, can I help you?" He held a PADD up as he started speaking “Yes ma’am; I have something here that requires the skipper’s signature. Actually, it’s a few some things.” Josh held out her hand. "Well by all means Mr Raschen hand it over and I will bring it to his attention. Can you tell me what it is about?" Standing with one hand behind his back as he handed her the PADD with the other, the security chief began to explain “Well Commander, one is a request for change of my department’s MTOE. With a request to have a squad of Starfleet Rangers assigned to security. Rosenbauer’s old crew preferably.” Josh allowed one of her eyebrows to climb almost up to her hairline. "I see. I was under the impression that almost all of Rosenbauer's old crew were already stationed aboard the Rose. How many more of them are we talking about?" (Reply Raschen) “This next request is an exception to policy about Marines having to change to Fleet which leads into my next change of MTOE request ma’am; I’d like a squad of Marines placed in my department as well. The second exception to policy request concerns the uniforms of Marines placed in the Security Department; still Marines, but in gold uniforms with Marine Corps rank on the collar, or at least the Marine Corps emblem placed on the collar opposite of the fleet rank insignia.” Josh simply grinned. "Just a squad? Ok, this is a joke right? Someone put you up to this, Kitty I suspect." (Reply Raschen iyw) Looking at his face Josh realised that he was totally serious. "You are serious requesting Fleet to sign a squad of Marines over to us when they haven't long removed all the marines from each of the ships and reorganised them within the fleet. Not only that but you seriously expect said squad of marines to dress in what comes down to Security uniforms only with a Marine insignia. I'm seriously tempted to forward this request just to see what happens to you the next time you come across a group of marines Lieutenant. But I can tell you here and now that the Fleet will probably not agree to this in any way shape or form, and I probably shouldn't repeat what any of the marines would say to the change of uniform." Josh scrolled down the padd even more as he outlined his next request. “The idea behind that one is that it adheres to uniformity, yet maintains unit cohesion. And now for my last change of MTOE request is that the security department have on hand the same specialized combat equipment that the Marines and Rangers get issued.” That and what she had read on the padd brought Josh's head up sharply. "Dear Lord Lieutenant, are you planning to start your own personal army? (reply Raschen) By all means, I will bring your request to the Captain's notice, however I must tell you that you have about as much chance as a snowball in hell of getting it and I for one will be suggesting to the Captain that he veto all but your first request regarding the Rangers. I suggest you put together a full report regarding this and have it ready for me by this afternoon. Once I have seen that I will bring it to the Captain's attention. Thank you." (Reply Raschen) (posted by Marilyn) ------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck - OPS Control Center - COPS - Lt Tom Jackson - Day 10 - 0935) Tom threw the padd disgustedly on his desk and was ticked! He felt that the Captain's discipline was a tad harsh. Cursing in Ferengi - he remembered his first hour in the brig and the extra duty. He realized that they had faile to alert the CO alert him but he had thought that someone would have gotten work to Security and stopped the brawl before it had gotten out of hand. He sighed once his anger abated and returned to the pile of padds. The most intriguing one was concerning the new shipment of improved phaser's. The charge according to the accompany spec's indicated a larger and longer lasting charge in a small sized weapon. He made a note to see about enhanced training on these by sending a message to Lt Cmdr Sullivan and Lt Raschen. That way his way his OPS folks could get involved in things across the ship and help where needed. This also served the purpose of cross training them in all aspects of the ship's departments. Remembering he not 'officially' met Lt Yalix as yet even though they had been working together since his arrival on board the Rose. Tom tapped his comm badge and transmitted "Lt Yalix - Lt Jackson please contact me at your convenience- Jackson out' and tapped the badge a second time by tapping it to close the link. I was under the impression that almost all of Rosenbauer's old crew was already stationed aboard the Rose. How many more of them are we talking about?" “It’s not so much a question of ‘How many’ ma’am; but more of a question of ‘Who BUPERS assigns’.” Chance calmly reasoned before continuing. “This next request is an exception to policy about Marines having to change to Fleet which leads into my next change of MTOE request ma’am; I’d like a squad of Marines placed in my department as well. "Just one squad? Ok, this is a joke right? Someone put you up to this, Kitty I suspect." “Yes ma’am, just one squad and NO this isn’t a joke..” The security chief stated simply. Looking at his face Josh realized that he was totally serious. "You are serious requesting Fleet to sign a squad of Marines over to us when they haven't long removed all the marines from each of the ships and reorganized them within the fleet. Josh scrolled down the padd even more as he outlined his next request. “The idea behind that one is that it adheres to uniformity, yet maintains unit cohesion. After all, the Rangers had to trade in there green for gold to be in security; fair is fair. And now for my last change of MTOE request is that the security department have on hand the same specialized combat equipment that the Marines and Rangers get issued.” That and what she had read on the padd brought Josh's head up sharply. "Dear Lord Lieutenant, are you planning to start your own personal army? “Not at all Commander, it’s just that Starfleet Security, Rangers, and Marines have different strengths, weaknesses, and equipment; and I want some of each. Will you please see to it that the Captain gets these requests Commander?” Raschen finished cordially without sounding as perturbed as he felt. “By all means, I will bring your request to the Captain's notice, however I must tell you that you have about as much chance as a snowball in hell of getting it and I for one will be suggesting to the Captain that he veto all but your first request regarding the Rangers. I suggest you put together a full report regarding this and have it ready for me by this afternoon. Once I have seen that I will bring it to the Captain's attention. Thank you." Chance actually did his homework on this one. According to regs, the FO still had to give the requests to the skipper whether she agreed with the requests or not. But he shrugged and replied “Roger that ma’am. I’ll have that report on your desk shortly after lunch. But if it will put your mind to ease; I am aware that I only have a raindrop’s chance in Hell of getting all this approved. All I’m really wanting is a squad of Rangers with their issue combat gear, and a squad of former Marines with theirs. The rest of it is just fat that is intended to be cut and denied.” (Reply Caskie iyw) Posted by Charlie ------------------------- ------------------------- End Compile Compiled by Marilyn
