Day 2 - 1634, 1636 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante, Bridge , COPS - Lt Tom Jackson - Day 2 - 1634) As Josh and Ahmed spoke, Jackson began to consider what he and Robbie would need in the way of Security troops. Tom liked to take care of things himself but going into a situation where there were several unknowns, he opted to be safer than sorry. "Robert, what would you suggest in the way of Security forces for our part of the AWAY mission?" he asked his #2. Tom listened and nodded. He had been thinking along the lines or two or three Security troops. He had a rough idea of the computer system layout from some research he had done a few moments ago. The area was not that big. For what seemed the millionth time in his SF career, Tom wondered ~Why can;t we explore and not look for trouble~. HE shook his head and went over the layout of facility. An Academy instructor that was a gadeteer at heart, had always tried to teach Jackson to leave himself an exit in case things went bad in a hurry. Jackson turned the OPS station over to Chief Sheridan and was about to leave when he whispered to Sheridan "Phil, watch us closely - I have a bad feeling about this" and turned and left to prepare for the AWAY mission. Phil nodded silently in agreement and looked things over the OPS Console. Phil was worried, Jackson was a good officer and friend. It was not like him to be overly worried. (USS Rosenante - LT Tom Jackson - COPS - Deck 2 - OPS Office - Day 2 - 1636) Tom entered his office and glanced at himself in a mirror. ~My God - Grey hair! he moaned to himself~. ~What a way to celebrate one's birthday!~ he added silently. Shrugging his shoulders, Tom downloaded the facility's layout into his tricorder. He scanned the available records for the computer systems. At last Tom had something to smile about. "Ahh, the old reliable Daystrom Mk IX"he muttered. Yeoman Krantz was nearby and smiled behind his back. She was getting used to be in OPS and to Tom's quirky nature. Tom tapped his comm badge and spoke "Cmdr Caskie - please come in". "I wanted to tell you I would like 2 or three security folks for the beam down. I would like to request Security Yeoman Elvis Fowler. My chief recommends him highly" Tom added. "Thanks Commander - Jackson out" he closed the link and finished up his work. ------------------------- Day: 2 - 1634.5 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante – Trade Winds – 30/CCOUNS Lt. (jg) Jon Nayati – 1634.5) Jon had been in the Trade Winds taking an early supper. Suddenly the star patterns outside the main view window compressed quite dramatically. ~That could mean only one thing, Great Spirit, suddenly we’re some place in a big, big hurry.~ Jon felt a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach which had nothing to with vertigo of converging and accelerating star patterns he saw through main viewing window. But was instead, provided by growing sense of impending danger. ~Great Spirit, protect my ship mates and myself,~ Jon prayed fervently. Jon didn’t even have to wait a second before his prayer was answered. But it was not answered by the Great Spirit but by Commander Caskie instead. =/\= Caskie to Nayati. Please meet me in transporter room 1 in 50 minutes please.=/\= Wolfing down the last bite of his rare Saurian venison, Jon tapped his commbadge. “Message received, Commander Caskie,” Jon said. “I will be draw a weapon, tactical tricorder and First Aid Kit from ship’s stores. Will be there well before 50 minutes. Nayati, out.” Jon left the Trade Winds in great haste, heading for nearest arms locker. ------------------------- Day2, 1635, 1650 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante, sickbay, ACMO Ensign (jg) Sam Lopez- Day 2 - 1635) Sam was in sickbay at the time with his thoughts when the call came =/\= Caskie to Lopez, Ichijo, E'Mpak and Fuller. Sam knew this was going to be bad.~there is going to be surgery tonight.~ (USS Rosenante, transporter room 1, ACMO Ensign (jg) Sam Lopez- Day 2 - 1650) Sam arrived at the transporter room to find only one other away team member and that was the new ACMO. ~well, i need something to do while i wait~ Sam strode up to ACMO" are you ready for this mission?"Sam said. ------------------------- Day 2 - 1635.5 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante - Bridge - LT Tom Jackson COPS - Day 2 - 1635.5 ) Tom replayed the distress call as the CO had requested. Although he had heard the call once already, it disturbed him. The mining facility seemed to be under attack by a ship calling itself the Rosenante! The Captain was stunned when he heard that the Rose was attacking the facility and asked "Did he say they were under attack by the Rosenante?" Ahmed asked for clarification. Tom confirmed this with "Aye Sir" This, coupled with the CO's announced intention to go off-fleet orders, had Jackson's gut tied in knots. He had so far backed Ahmed Salid bu he had some honest doubts. The Captain spoke to Robbie and himself "Mister Jackson, I want you and Smith to be ready to beam down to the planet. I want you to pull any records in the facilities computers. I want to know their production schedules as well as any data concerning shipments and anything associated with this attack. Have Chief Sheridan take your place on the Bridge. Take Ensign Rixx as well, you may need an engineer." "Understood Captain" Jackson replied and messaged Ensign Rixx telling her what the Captain needed. "Mr Smith, get the Chief up here and assemble any items you think we'll need" Tom ordered. Tom's computer skills were good but he was glad Robbie was going as well -although young Robbie was a good man to have covering his back.(reply: ------------------------- Day 2 - 1635.7 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante - Security Offices - SO Mike Rosenbauer - Day 2 - 1635.7) Mike was getting everything ready for the away team. He had been notified that he would be accompanying the team to the surface and to expect hostilities. He was looking over the away team roster and noticed a name that he was not familiar with; Rixx. He decided that he needed to know more about her before it was time to transport down to the surface and he also decided that it was better to have a meeting with her just before beam down. "Rosenbauer to Rixx." "Please meet me in Transporter Room one for a quick security briefing for the away mission. Bring all your gear and equipment that you'll need when going down to the surface. We'll begin our quick discussion at 1705 hours." "See you then, Rosenbauer out." ------------------------- Day 2 - 1638 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante - Personal Quarters - FO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 2 - 1638) Josh was already in her quarters packing her medical kit when her comm chirped. =/\=Cmdr Caskie - please come in=/\= Reaching over and tapping it her brows drew together, since she almost recognised the voice on the other end. "Caskie here. Is that you Lt Jackson? What can I do for you?" =/\= I wanted to tell you I would like 2 or three security folks for the beam down. I would like to request Security Yeoman Elvis Fowler. My chief recommends him highly. =/\= Josh blinked, trying to remember if Jackson had been on the Bridge when she had mentioned security to Lt Raschen. "By all means Lieutenant, however Lt Raschen is in charge of the Security contingent and I suggest that you run any requests you might have past him." "Thanks Commander - Jackson out" Josh frowned and shook her head. ------------------------- Day 2 - 1630 & 1640 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante, Officer’s Quarters , ACMO Ichijo- Day 2 - 1630) At this time, the first full day aboard her new ship, Kimiko should be exploring the bowels of the vessels or in the lounge, meeting her new shipmates. However she didn’t feel up to being social and exploring…. ~I’m definitely not up to being shot~ The ensign had tried to lose herself in a tai chi form, but her concerns kept peering out and nibbling around the edges of her mind. ~there is no gain from avoiding the unpleasant, only wasted time and energy~ Kimiko sat at the small desk in her quarters, staring vacantly out the porthole. The ensign wanted to speak with the CMO, but knew that it would be wise to allow a little time to temper her words. She realized that she couldn’t question the Captain’s directive anymore then she would allow a visitor to the ward to question her medical decisions. She decided that she would speak to her superior, as a junior officer should, and rely that the officers closest to the captain, to be able to weigh the truth of the matter. ~but, the bloody shirt~ Kimiko quashed that errant thought ~mass hysteria may have its place dear to the civilian populace, but I think that it is quite different with Starfleet….. I hope~ =/\= Caskie to Lopez, Ichijo, E'Mpak and Fuller. Report to Transporter Room 1 in 50 minutes please and prepare for serious casualties and a full medical evac.=/\= Dr Ichijo jumped at the sudden intrusion of noise into her muddled thought and for a moment stared at the kit recessed into the wall. ~what the hell is going on, surely we haven’t ‘defended’ ourselves yet.~ She jumped up and grabbed the kit. Moving purposefully towards the transporter room, she recounted what she learned in extra-department shipboard operations. ~before an initiated attack or in preparation for a potential hostile encounter, the ship will be brought to an alert status, likely red.~ Kimiko nodded to herself. ~Okay, not from us~ The ACMO rounded the corner and came into sight or the transporter door and looked around, no one in sight, it looked like she beat even security to the transporter room, she thought smugly to herself, and walked through the door. (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room One , ACMO Ichijo- Day 2 - 1640) Kimiko stood in the nearly empty transporter room, greeted the crewman stationed there, and tapped her comm. Badge. “Ichijo to Sickbay One” “I am currently at the transporter room one and was a bit curious to what is going on, if you have a moment, and what to expect, Ma’am” Kimiko asked ------------------------- Day 2 - 1640, 1710 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante, Personal Quarters – Combat Nurse – E’Mpak- Day 2 - 1640) E’Mpak had just got out of Sickbay. She had been working strange shifts with Fisher and due to have a night shift later. She lay down on her bed and took a deep breath. She felt tired and was looking forward to getting some time to her self. Fisher was a good teacher, she had learnt a lot from her and she was realised that there was a lot more to learn. =/\= Caskie to Lopez, Ichijo, E'Mpak and Fuller. Report to Transporter Room 1 in 50 minutes please and prepare for serious casualties and a full medical evac.=/\= “Under stood.” E’Mpak paused for a moment and then a smile crossed her face as she realised what she had agreed to do. ~An away mission. Good~ She got up and headed for the shower. She got undressed and stepped in feeling all the day’s tiredness slip away as she turned it on. A few minutes later she stepped out and moved over to the wardrobe, Inside hung her clothes and uniforms. She pulled out a heavy duty uniform like the one she wore in sickbay. It had fitted reinforced plates and extra padding so that it could take to some damage. She then opened a draw and pulled out her Bat’leth, Mek’leth, D’k tahg. Know ling that the Bat’leth was going to be to bulky to carry she left it and but took the others putting the D’k tahg into her arms sheath and the Mek’leth into a sheath that ran up her back. She moved towards the door and grabbed a small rucksack that was there. It contained her medical kit that she kept ready. She had packed it and repacked it so may time she could find and use anything in it in her sleep. She grabbed it as she passed and headed out of the door towards transport room one. (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room One , Combat Nurse – E’Mpak- Day 2 - 1710) E'Mpak entered the transport room. She nodded at the few officer that had already arrived and took her place int he corner. ------------------------- Day 2 - 1642 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante - Bridge – ATAC Ensign (jg) T’Sel – 1642) T’Sel was at Tactical when Captain Salid quickly entered the bridge. Obliviously he’d heard about Mr. Jackson’s previously acquired distress call. Standing in the middle of the bridge Captain Salid began issuing orders. "Replay that distress call, Mister Jackson." As the main screen came to life, T’Sel could see that whoever was on the other end of the subspace SOS was under attack. =^=This is Administrator Sorvex at the Bardon Alpha Mining Complex. We are under attack by a Federation starship calling herself the Rosenante. They are demanding Boronite ore. We need assistance immediately. Repeat; we are under attack and need assistance immediately.=^= ~What in the name of the Awakened Surak is going on here?~ T’Sel wondered silently. "Did he say they were under attack by the Rosenante?" Still wrapped up in her Surak moment, T’Sel didn’t notice which bridge officer had asked that incredulous question. T’Sel noticed FO Caskie sigh, nod her head and speak to Captain Salid. "Unfortunately Sir I'm afraid they did.” That was not the answer that T’Sel expected to hear. Clearly there were things going on here that she did not understand. ~Perhaps it is something I was not told in the earlier mass briefing? Perhaps this very strange and singular event was part of the reason Captain Salid had taken the Rose so far off mission and risked being labeled as a pirate.~ Captain Salid wasted no time. "Mister Dralar. Take us to warp 9. At that speed what is our ETA to Bardon Prime? "An hour and ten minutes, Captain," Mister Dralar replied quickly. T’Sel didn’t need to look at a chronometer to know that 70 minutes would be much too late to save the stricken colony. “Engage,” Captain Salid ordered. Turning her attention back to the tactical console, T’Sel prepared to ready the Rose for ship-to-ship combat in possibly 70 minutes. ~Perhaps we’ll be able pick up the pieces there, or better still, to confront this starship that was calling itself the Rosenante. Then, at least, I and the rest of the crew will have some partial answers as to what the karlocking hell is going on here.~ Immediately the powerful Rose accelerated to warp 9. Captain Salid and FO Caskie began issuing orders to the various officers and personnel needed to deal with both the medical and combat contingencies that the Rose would find when it arrived at the unfortunate mining colony. Before long, all officers both the FO and CO had contacted responded in the affirmative. Captain Salid then took over the command chair from Commander Caskie. A minute after Captain Salid had settled in, T’Sel dutifully spoke up. “Captain, whoever these aggressors are, they’re not going to be glad to see us arrive at their plundered mine. Tactically speaking, I think it would be extremely prudent for us to raise the ship’s shields, charge the main phaser banks and arm the photon torpedoes for immediate launch now, before reaching Bardon Prime. It’s better to be armed and prepared than being terminally sorry.” “It might also be advisable Sir, to max our main sensor array toward Bardon Prime. Perhaps it was no fortunate accident that allowed Administrator Sorvex to get out his distress call. Perhaps this faux Rose may be waiting to ambush us as we rush in, all concerned about saving innocent civilians. Perhaps the pretender ‘Rose’ may be warping toward us even as we’re heading at warp 9 to Bardon Prime.” ------------------------- Day: 2 - 1655 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Furious, Bridge, CO, Captain Captain Saleke, Day 2 - 1655) Captain Saleke sat in the command chair reading the latest reports from engineering including fuel comsumption, reactor efficiency, core temperatures, component stability and ships power levels including auxiliary and supplemental power reserves. After the initial breaking in period and a return to eight hour shifts the ship was close to operating within 'normal' parameters which was five percent lower than optimal and therefore unsatisfactory. The Vulcan had made a name for himself as a hard taskmaster while on his former commands but the ships had functioned at a high level because of it, Saleke after all had never asked or expected more of a subordinate than he expected of himself. This was the reason he was chosen for a high risk mission with a low expectation of survivability that much of the invasion at the wars end had hinged upon. This was the reason a medium class cruiser had managed to infiltrate an enemy supply line and destroy a supply depot and three secondary objectives with minimal support before being destroyed itself. Reports from operations were still showing some power fluctuations that were being traced down and emiminated, power consumption would continue to improve toward optimal levels as those were reined in. Tactical was still gaining proficiency with the advanced weapons systems including the TIHS (Tactical Interactive Holographic System) that was the heart of the Prometheus class' edge in weapons technology which made it a deadly weapon in time of need. Armed with type XII phaser arrays and quantum torpedoes and with the additional fighting edge of the Tri-V mode which could be used to split the vessel into three strong fighting ships made this class a true warship. Security had continued to remain at a low level despite the admiral's warning or perhaps because of it, if he tightened down too much the perpetrators would be forced into hiding and wait for another chance to strike again. If however it was made to look as though he were oblivious to the possibility then it was logical the perp or perps might expose themselves with another attempt. Saleke had accepted that risk and was as prepared as could be expected, he was counting on the other members of the crew to insure a positive outcome should it happen. "Captain I am receiving a distress call." He looked up from the padd immediately. "Point of origin." Lieutenant Yalix replied quickly. "The mining facility at Bardon Alpha sir." Handing the padd to the yoeman he said. "On screen." The main viewscreen changed from the shifting starfield to a communications/control center. The human on screen appeared quite shaken. Dirt was sifting from the ceiling from the vibrations of exploding ordinance, photon torpedoes judging from the distinctive thud and crump though muffled by distance. =^=This is Administrator Sorvex at the Bardon Alpha Mining Complex.=^= He was obviously under emotional duress. =^= We are under attack by a federation starship calling herself the Rosenante. They are demanding Boronite ore. We need assistance immediately. Repeat we are under attack and need assistance immediately.=^= An eyebrow quirked as the message was cut off and he pressed the yellow alert button. "Helm set course for Bardon Alpha. What is our eta at emergency warp?" "ETA of approximately five hours and fifteen minutes at emergency warp captain, laying course in now. The captain gave a slight nod of approval, the Prome class could sustain warp nine point nine seven five& nbsp;for twelve hours when operating at optimal efficiency. He hit the com button. "Engineering prepare for emergency warp." =^= Captain that's an awfully big jump so soon into the shakedown.=^= The engineer answered. =^= I can't guarantee we can maintain that velocity, we haven't had a chance to properly test the engines.=^= "Understood Mr. Zorn, bring the engines up to full slowly." =^= Aye sir. =^= The thrum of the warp drive reactors gained strength perceptibly as the ship smoothly accelerated. With that done he looked toward the OPS officer. "Mr. Yalix access Starfleet records, verify that the USS Rosenante has been assigned to this sector." "Mr. Williams." he spoke to the tactical officer without turning the command chair. "I want a breakdown of the Rosenante's offensive and defensive systems brought to me in five minutes along with the command roster." "Commander Sloane, Lt. Commanders McLaren and Gralen to my ready room." Having spoken he turned to the next officer in line. "Lt. Givens you have the CONN." Holis followed Saleke and the other two officers into the ready room with trepidation, if a federation ship of the line had indeed attacked a federation facility there would be hell to pay. He hoped like heck some mistake had been made but if so then why would the faclity under attack make that claim? Could there be someone posing as the Rosenante? Time would tell of course, he hoped they were wrong. Lt. Lance Givens took the command chair and looked about the bridge as the replacements moved into position, the warship was jumping without hesitation into a high level of readiness. Whoever or whatever was attacking that facility was going to be run down and brought to justice. Of that he had no doubt.< BR> ------------------------- Day 2 - 1656 NRPG: I will be writing a post for the FO Sloane sometime this weekend. Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Furious, Bridge, ATT, Lt. Cmdr. Matthew McLaren, Day 2 - 1656) Matthew had been reading up on the Rosenante since they had arrived aboard the Furious. Unlike his time aboard the Boudicca as ATT, Captain Saleke had actually requested Matthew serve at the engineering station on the bridge. Additionally Tollian was manning the Operations Station. This made both men fairly happy. Of course, Matthew realized that the assignment aboard the Furious was only transitive. After all, once they were on station, he and Tollian would be departing for the Sentani Expanse to rendezvous with their newest ship assignment. It would still be a day or so before the furious was on station, and so Matthew was relishing the opportunity to contribute to the day to day operations of a ship again. He hadn't realized exactly how much he had missed working as a ship's engineer until he'd lost the position because of his injuries. And while Bob Lorimar was by far one of the best Engineers that he had ever been privileged to work with, he still felt a little slighted to have lost his Chief Engineer's spot to him. ~You bloody well recommended him now didn't you Matthew?~ He asked himself, ~What did you really expect? That captain Rivers would leave a crippled man in charge of the most important department on the ship?~ He subconsciously shook his head. "Yeah a foolish thought." he muttered. "Captain I am receiving a distress call." Tollian reported. Matthew started looking for the signal's origin. "Point of origin?" Saleke inquired. "The mining facility at Bardon Alpha sir." Yalix replied. "On Screen." Tollian shifted the communication to the main view screen. The situation looked bleak. The facility was most assuredly under attack, by photon torpedoes. Dirt sifted from the underground facility's ceiling. A human male was speaking. =^=This is Administrator Sorvex at the Bardon Alpha Mining Complex.=^= He was obviously under emotional duress. =^= We are under attack by a Federation starship calling herself the Rosenante. They are demanding Boronite ore. We need assistance immediately. Repeat we are under attack and need assistance immediately.=^= Matthew's eyes grew as wide as coffee saucers. Then suddenly the image on the screen went blank. "We've lost the signal Captain. It's being jammed at the source." Tollian reported. The ship went to yellow alert. "Helm set course for Bardon Alpha. What is our ETA at emergency warp?" The captain asked. "ETA of approximately five hours and fifteen minutes at emergency warp captain, laying course in now." There was a brief exchange of orders between the captain and Engineering, then Saleke turned his attentions to Matthew. ""Mr. Yalix access Starfleet records, verify that the USS Rosenante has been assigned to this sector."" "Aye sir." Tollian replied and went to work. It wasn't difficult to discover that the Rosenante had been assigned elsewhere. "Captain the Rosenante was assigned to patrol the Sentani Expanse, one sector over." He replied, although he already knew that information and he suspected that Saleke did also. "Mr. Williams." Saleke spoke to the tactical officer without turning the command chair. "I want a breakdown of the Rosenante's offensive and defensive systems brought to me in five minutes along with the command roster." "Commanders Sloane, Lt. Commanders McLaren and Gralen to my ready room." Having spoken he turned to the next officer in line. "Lt. Givens you have the CONN." "Aye sir." Matthew replied, gave a glance to Tollian and followed the first officer towards the Captain's ready room. The four senior-most officers on the ship stepped into the room. The captain assuming his chair, and Commander Sloane dropping into the other desk chair. Matthew remained standing. ------------------------- Day 2 1656 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Furious, Bridge, SEC/TAC, Ensign (SG) Andrus Williams, Day 2 - 1658) Andrus had acknowledged CAPT Saleke's order with a terse "Aye Captain". Punching in a few quick commands, he brought up the technical specifications for the Rosenante. Andrus was impressed by what he read off the screen. Whistling lowly he read " "Phaser Type: XII Phaser locations: 12 Primary Hull dorsal arrays capable of 360 degrees of firing, 6 secondary hull arrays. 8.0.2 Torpedo Launchers Photon Launcher Locations: four fixed-focus torpedo launchers. Two forward, below vertical center-line flanking the main deflector dish, and two below vertical center line aft, offset to the beam of the vessel. Each is capable of firing off five torpedoes in a single salvo. Photon Torpedo Type: XXV, self-guided Photon Complement: 200 Quantum Launcher Locations: 1 Forward center Dorsal, 1 aft center dorsal, Rapid-Pulse Firing System. Each is capable of firing off two torpedoes in a single salvo. He downloaded the information into his padd. He hoped that they would not get into a battle - he was sure that the Furious could take the Rose but it would be close! Andrus motioned for another Ensign to take his place and headed toward the Ready Room and make his report. (USS Furious - Captain;s Ready Room - 1703) Andrus activated the entry chine and waited fro permission to enter. He heard a terse, business like "Enter" Standing before Captain Saleke he reported in "Ensign Andrus Williams reporting Sir". Handing his padd to the Captain, he awaited permission to speak. ------------------------- Day 2, 1658.5 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Furious, Ready Room, CO Captain Saleke, Day 2 - 1658.5) As Saleke stepped into the Ready Room at the head of the group of officers his eyes noted the presence of an unexpected package upon his desk. A metal box approximately sixteen inches long, six inches wide and six inches deep. As he sat in the chair behind the desk he looked about the group and noted Holis Gralen's grin and wink and deduced it was the Betazoid that had brought the package, it was therefore logically safe so he ignored it for the moment. Commander Sloane took the chair on the opposite side while Holis and Lt. Commander McLaren remained standing. As he looked about the assembled he noted the qualifications of each. Erin had filled the First Officer's role nicely much to the Vulcan's satisfaction, the reports on her efficiency and detail had not been exaggerated. The first few days after departure from Utopia Planitia she had been constantly deep in planning with the department heads, assigning resources and ramrodding the repairs that had been ongoing which had left Saleke free to see the big picture, anticipating potential problem areas based on component failures and system overloading caused by below standard installation procedures. Doctor Gralen was a well known commodity, a scientist with few peers in his field who while not a particularly outstanding officer by Starfleet standards was recognized as an extremely valuable asset to the fleets' scientific corps. Among his many accomplishments was the trailblazing of an experimental method for following a vessel in cloak based on observations of the subspace river, a method it had not been necessary to use while Saleke had been his CO though Devan Sash had recommended his services considering the new technology to be a great asset to a warship. Holis had also been instrumental in other missions on the Nimitz and his quick thinking had kept the Hades from certain destruction in the recognition of the trace of a genesis torpedo during the battle against the Myenru warfleet. Lt. Commander McLaren had also come highly recommended, because of the recognition of his abilities in dealing with instrumentation and mechanization of a highly technological nature including those of advanced alien design he had been assigned to the Advanced Theoretical Technologies branch of StarFleet, upon learning of his arrival onboard the vulcan had immediately requested the application of his experience in bringing the Furious' systems to a higher state of readiness. That the man had immediately pitched in cheerfully was a testimony to his hard driving nature and exemplary work ethic. His companion had also volunteered to help the overstretched Operations department much to Commander Sloane's relief. After everyone had positioned themselves comfortably Saleke began the impromptu meeting, shifting in his chair to look at each one in turn. "Before I ask each of you for your input on the message we received I will make my stand on the matter clear, I find it illogical that a Federation ship under orders from Starfleet with an exemplary record and not assigned to this sector will be found culpable in the attack on a remote mining colony. Having said that every possibility shall be thoroughly investigated and any means necessary to bring the perpetrators of the purported attack to justice shall be taken." "The matter under question then at this time is if the attacking ship is the Rosenante then why they would announce their identity to the mining colony before attacking and allow them to broadcast it, why such an attack might be initiated and whether the message might have a veiled motive." He sat back in his chair and opened the floor as the Bolian/Human tactical officer entered the chamber. "As you are all experienced officers I am asking you for your insights on the matter." After accepting the padd Saleke stopped the man. "Mr. Williams please remain, your tactical input could prove useful." ------------------------- Day 2 1659 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Furious - Captain's Ready Room - 1659) After accepting the padd Saleke stopped the man. "Mr. Williams please remain, your tactical input could prove useful." Andrus replied " Certainly Sir" and took a seat. Williams had not had a lot of time to meet Captain Saleke. The CO's reputation was a hard task master. He always completed his assigned mission. Tactically, the Rose had a slight edge but he knew a bit about the Rose's crew and their skill would make it an even draw if a fight occurred. Adnrus waited for bis turn to seak. ------------------------- Day: 2 1659 Mission: Into The Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante – Transporter Room 1 – 30/CCOUNS Lt. (jg) Jon Nayati – 1659) Jon arrived early at at Transporter Room 1. From the Trade Winds to Transporter Room 1, Jon felt he had made really good time getting there. At his quarters Jon to doned a set of reinforced combat fatigues. He’d also grabbed two NCR II barb knives, to use if things got up close and personal. He also added a small First Aid kit he religiously carried in his quarters. Any Warrior venturing outside one of the protective Necron Red enclaves was required to be well versed in common first aid techniques, not only for their survival but for the survival of those tribal warriors outside-in-the-cold with them. Still a skilled Wise Man at home, Jon had kept up his first aid skills while in Star Fleet. While not a fully certified Medipath, Jon was qualified enough to be a valuable ice medic. His ability to see auras also helped Jon in the diagnosing injuries, some toxins and some illnesses as well. On NCR II ice medics saved a lot of lives, especially among those warriors, tech Shaman and explorers who ventured out into the frozen deserts of Jon’s frigid home world. If one was out in the Icy-Dark of NCR II and injured, one seldom lived long to see an Inside Full Medipath. Next Jon quick-timed it to the nearest weapon’s locker on his floor. There he withdrew a standard issue phaser rifle, a heavy duty phaser pistol and small hand phaser to conceal in his right boot. Jon also got two e-cells as well. One clip for each of Jon’s heavy phaser. The concealed phaser was a weapon of last resort for Jon. He would take down as many of the opposition as he could with it and then use the last charge to avoid capture and all interrogation. That was the Necron Red way of both saving face and keeping any secret one had from what ever captors had taken them prisoner.. Jon’s next trip had been to one of the technical lockers, were he withdrew a tactical tricorder.Once it was in his possession, Jon down-loaded the blue prints and salient technical specs on the Bradon Mining Colony. Having accomplished the three tasks he had assigned himself, Jon arrived a few minutes before Commander Caskie and those security types he expected to meet there. Once there he talked to the attending transporter techs, and other ‘early birds’ arrivals like him. it helpled Jon get 'psyched up' for the mission, what ever the mission was. It gratified Jon to see that everybody present there were up and motivated to be on their respective Away Teams. Despite the grim, if not lethal, circumstances they were about to be transported into. Jon was especially looking forward to serving withn Commander Caskie again. Josh Caskie, who had repeatedly demonstrated the finest battle traditions of both a skilled warrior-woman and an competent war-chief. ------------------------- Day 2 - 1711 Mission: Into the Darkness, Go I Day: 2 Stardate: 2408.08.02 (USS Rosenante - Transporter Room 1 - FO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 2 - 1711) Josh strode into the room a minute late, not at all happy. The increased security measures that the Captain had put in place had caused her hassle in checking out her phaser and to be honest she was annoyed with herself more than anything for not realising that this would be the case. Striding into the room her green eyes flashing she raked her gaze over everyone present. "Right." she snapped "Let's get to the briefing." Watching them all turn towards her she relented somewhat since with the exception of the Senior Officers and one or two of the crew that had served on the Rose for a while, quite a bit of this crew were seriously wet behind the ears. She shook her head taking a deep breath to calm herself and looking them all over again she began to speak. "Approximately about one hour ago this ship received a distress call from the Boronite Mining Colony in the Baradon Sector. It was under attack from a rogue vessel and had suffered serious casualties." Josh had decided not to tell them that the 'rogue' vessel was supposed to the Rosenante. Far better to keep that little gem quiet for now. "We are beaming down to recover any casualties and to render any aid and assistance that we can hence the preponderance of medical personal on our team. Lt Jackson has been tasked with his own mission and he will oversee this himself." We will beam down in this order. Firstly all the security teams who will secure the facility and advise the rest of us that it is safe. Secondly Lt Nayati and I will beam down with the medical team. Ensign Lopez. You are the senior Medical Officer present. Please organise your teams so that they understand their roles before they beam down." "Finally Mr Jackson and his team will beam down" "Are there any questions?" (Boronite Mining Facility - Main Corridor - FO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 2 - 1746) As soon as Josh had materialised she took a deep breath and wished she hadn't. She immediately recognised the iron like smell of fresh blood. Moving everyone away from the transport site she turned to Lopez. "Deploy your teams Mr Lopez. Lt Nayati and I will make our way to the Control Room." ------------------------- __________ NOD32 4023 (20090420) Information __________ This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system. http://www.eset.com
