Kimiko’s overactive imagination supplied the jubilant raspberry that the terminal was giving her. The results were correct, impossible, but correct. She compared the archived file with the obviously dead form’s record…that…was…lying…..right….behind……her. The Doctor was not prone to flights of fancy and berated herself for being unprofessional; however that didn’t stop her from unconsciously angling herself so she could keep an eye on the still form. “Some of the injuries on the subject predate the original…..” The overhead light strobed for a moment and settled a few lumens dimmer. Kimiko was not sure what happened, but before she could inquire, the badge chirped. "Wyler to Ichijo" The Ensign jumped and gave undignified squeak, stomping on an irrational spurt of anger, Kimiko replied “Ichijo here, how may I be of service?” There was a pause "You'll have to put your examination on hold doctor. We’ve been ordered to expect casualties. I need you to put together an emergency response team and handle triage routing. Anything immediately life threatening needs to come to main sickbay, everything else to secondary sickbay. Put together a team to attend you." “Yes Ma’am, if you’ll allow me ….two minutes to close the procedure. I’ll get a team together.” Kimiko closed the channel and said “Computer, suspend current recording and save to composite- Webber, Julie beta- Ichijo attending forward a copy to Ichijo personal padd.” --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Head Nurse - Ensign (jg) Kitty Fisher - Day 2 – 2023.7) Kimiko thought about her question, to phrase it the best way to avoid offending her. “This is a good setup, but I noticed that there would be a large population in this area and it appears that the alpha teams avoid it completely ?” Kitty nodded her head and smiled at the doctor. "That would be correct doctor. Running triage on a Starship is entirely different from a planet. On a planet you start out from your base and simply expand the triage system to take in every casualty. On a ship it is totally different. During a battle or any other serious problem onboard there are two main areas on the ship that you need always to have constantly in operation. The Bridge and Main Engineering. There are always others of course, but those two are the key areas. If either of those areas fail all we will find ourselves doing is shoving people into escape pods and praying like mad." "This particular triage system was set up with that in mind. The Alpha 1 triage team heads directly to the Bridge and then works back to Main Sickbay. Alpha 2 does the same from Main Engineering. It's the other triage teams who simply fan out from Sickbay and one of them is assigned to cover that area." "Alpha 1 and 2 will not stop to triage anyone unless they find an injured Command or Engineering Officer. If they find someone who's injuries are life threatening they will have them beamed to Sickbay if at all possible, but that is all, they will not stop to treat them since they cannot otherwise they would never reach their designated areas or would reach them too late to be of any help and that could conceivably cost us the ship" "The other triage teams will be following them and will pick up everyone else but the Alpha teams responsibility and orders do not allow them to simply stop and deal with multiple casualties until they have reached their designated areas." (Reply Ichijo) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Personal Quarters - Head Nurse - Ensign (jg) Kitty Fisher -Day 2 - 2026.2) Kitty had been relaxing in her quarters when the lights suddenly dimmed. She tore her eyes away from the message from home that she was reading hoping only that it was a temporary power outage and not something more serious, knowing all the while that given what had happened over the last few hours made that highly unlikely. Kitty sighed, all the while tugging on her boot just in case. As her lights dimmed and started flashing red and the Red Alert Alarm started sounding Kitty grabbed what she needed and headed down to Sickbay. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - CMO- Lieutenant Aleesa Wyler -Day 2 - 2026.5) The place was busy. Everyone was getting as rapidly prepared as they could in the unknown amount of time that they had. Of course, Aleesa knew that no amount of time to prepare would be enough. She'd seen enough of the medical carnage that came in at Starbase Geneva to know that you were never as prepared as you'd like to be. It was times like these that she depended on her training, and the training of those around here. Perhaps more of the latter than the former. the majority of the Rosenante's medical crew were veterans of the civil war. They had served on the front lines, while Aleesa, although in service during the war, only really dealt with battle casualties when they had come in after being transferred from docking starships at Geneva. those cases had been long stabilized for the most part and the immediate trauma wasn't as.. bloody as it would have been at the time the injuries took place. When the doors to be bay opened and kitty arrived, the first thing that Alee wanted to do was scream, 'Thank you, God.' She refrained from that desire and was very pleased to see the head nurse taking in everything around her as she approached the CMO. "Dr Wyler, how can I help? Would you prefer me to base myself in Main Sickbay, Help Dr Lopez with the secondary one or help Dr Ichijo with setting up the triage teams?" She wanted to say something like, please keep me from panicking, but thought better of it. Instead she replied. "I think Doctor Ichijo would be grateful for any help you can give her. She could use your expertise and experience, since she's straight out of the academy. Nurse Santiago and M'Empak are tending to Doctor Lopez. And I have Doctor Reynolds to assist me here." (reply Kitty) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Head Nurse - Ensign (jg) Kitty Fisher - Day 2 - 2026.8) "I think Doctor Ichijo would be grateful for any help you can give her. She could use your expertise and experience, since she's straight out of the academy. Nurse Santiago and E'Mpak are tending to Doctor Lopez. And I have Doctor Reynolds to assist me here." Kitty smiled reassuringly at Wyler. "No worries Sir, will do." She looked closely at the CMO seeing the signs, not of panic, but of uncertainty that came from never having been in this situation before and resting her hand on the doctor's shoulders smiled at her. "Hey, Josh and Chief Fuller set this triage system up ages ago. Just before the Civil War to be exact. My nurses and Chief Fuller's med techs know exactly what to do. It will work. It won't be flawless, it never is, but it will work." (Reply Wyler) "Can I suggest one other thing whilst it is still quiet. We really do not know how long we will be working. With no disrespect to yourself, Josh always had coffee and sandwiches set up in her office so that everyone could grab something when it was quiet. I always thought that it was a good thing to do. Would you like me to arrange that for here and for the other Sickbay?" (Reply Wyler) Crossing to where the triage kits were kept Kitty was happy to see various Nurses and Med Techs beginning to move them and stack them nearer the main doors where they would be more accessible for the triage teams. Spotting ACMO Ichijo she crossed to her. "Doctor, I'm Head Nurse Fisher. Dr Wyler assigned me to help you since I have first hand knowledge of the triage system that was set up. How can I help you?" (Reply Ichijo) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - CMO- Lieutenant Aleesa Wyler -Day 2 - 2026.9) "I think Doctor Ichijo would be grateful for any help you can give her. Aleesa replied. Kitty smiled reassuringly at her. "No worries Sir, will do." the head nurse placed her hand on the Alee's shoulder and smiled at her. "Hey, Josh and Chief Fuller set this triage system up ages ago. Just before the Civil War to be exact. My nurses and Chief Fuller's med techs know exactly what to do. It will work. It won't be flawless, it never is, but it will work." Aleesa smiled then nodded, a huge weight suddenly seemed to have shifted off her shoulders. "Can I suggest one other thing whilst it is still quiet. We really do not know how long we will be working. With no disrespect to yourself, Josh always had coffee and sandwiches set up in her office so that everyone could grab something when it was quiet. I always thought that it was a good thing to do. Would you like me to arrange that for here and for the other Sickbay?" Aleesa nodded, she hadn't even considered the idea of making food, but Kitty had a very good point. "Yes, that is an excellent idea. I appreciate your help, Kitty. I really do." She gestured over to Ichijo who was just now entering the bay and taking a look at some displayed data. "Looks like your needed Miss Fisher. You'd better go rescue our new doctor before she gets herself thoroughly confused." Kitty nodded and crossed to where the triage kits were kept, she regarded them for a moment before continuing on her way to the CMO's office. Once there, she stepped up to the replicator, and pulled up the menu for sandwiches. It did not surprise her to know that Doctor Caskie had actually put together a replicator menu, that was already designed to fill that particular need. She replicated the menu, which consisted of a large platter of sandwiches, some other small snack foods and a variety of drinks including a large thermos of coffee. With a smile, she relocated the food to her desktop and exited the office, grabbing the attention of the closest nurse. "Nurse Gibbons." "Yes Doctor?" The Brunette replied. "I've replicated some sandwiches and drinks in my office, please see to it that you pass the word that they are available for anyone who needs a bite to eat at any time, then call down and make certain the same is done at the secondary sickbay." Gibbons smiled. "Yes doctor." she replied with a sense of excitement. Perhaps it was the continuity of things that made her smile, but whatever it was Aleesa could not call it a bad thing. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Head Nurse - Ensign (jg) Kitty Fisher -Day 2 - 2028) Entering Sickbay Kitty heard the CMO issuing her orders and immediately crossed to her. "Dr Wyler, how can I help? Would you prefer me to base myself in Main Sickbay, Help Dr Lopez with the secondary one or help Dr Ichijo with setting up the triage teams?" (Reply Wyler) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Bridge- ACEO - Ensign (jg) Mitena Rixx - Day 2 - 2030) The captain nodded affirmatively, "Very good, maintain the SEDIS until it becomes apparent that it's no longer effective." "Yes Sir", Mitena replied, training her eyes back down to her station to monitor the counterfeit Rosenante. The captain had already moved on to focus his orders on the defense of the ship. In response the THIS system was activated and she was felt certain that tactical solutions were already being calculated. While watching the sensor ghost proceed along it's prescribed trajectory, she pulled up the damage team check in log. Most of the teams had already moved to their emergency location assignments. As much as she might hope that the trip would end up only being an exercise in procedures for the teams it was becoming increasingly apparent that the teams would be needed at those stations. Mitena stole a glance up to the view screen as she could. She watched as the ships phasers destroyed two torpedoes and held her breath as the third detonated. Instinctually, she pulled up the ships key systems and looked for red flags and alarms ready to dispatch whoever was needed. Another round of torpedoes drew her eyes as the phaser fire splayed across the view screen. When the next round detonated the ship shook. "Any damage?" The captain asked. There was no doubt who the question was directed to. Mitena completely dropped monitoring the progress of the SEDIS and enlarged the ship system diagnostic tool. "There is some damage to the secondary phaser array on deck 8. It is currently offline." She tapped out the commands as she continued, directing the damage control team for that sector, "Team is already on site. They should be able to recalibrate in short order." The ensign watched him complete circuit around the bay leaving sealed trays at every bed without missing a step. Kimiko gave a small shrug and walked to a larger terminal. “Computer, please display the current plans for response teams circuits, including historic data for positions assigned and reported injuries, please overlap clusters” Kimiko viewed the displayed images “Computer, “ The doctor asked while touching a spot on the screen. “What were the main components of injuries at this area?” [59% of the injuries reported were plasma burns, 21% of injuries reported were blunt trauma, 12% of the injuries were penetrating injuries] ~Well that was about less the useful~ Kimiko thought as she looked at the triage grouping. It looked good, but Kimiko wanted to change it. She shook herself out of her reverie ~Stop it~ she told herself ~ you just want to Do Something~ Ichijo noticed a tall red-head nurse heading towards her. Her purposeful stride and determined expression told Kimiko that this was one of those nurses that doctors dismissed at their own peril. "Doctor, I'm Head Nurse Fisher. Dr Wyler assigned me to help you since I have firsthand knowledge of the triage system that was set up. How can I help you?" Kimiko thought about her question, to phrase it the best way to avoid offending her. “This is a good setup, but I noticed that there would be a large population in this area and it appears that that the alpha teams avoids it completely ?” (Reply Fisher) Posted by Jack --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Bridge- COPS- Lieutenant Thomas Jackson - Day 2- 2050.5) So far, the Rose had stood up well t the assault from the Furious. “Might I suggest that we prepare a few torpedoes armed with shock wave warheads set to detonate a half click off the Furious’ bow? Fired from the aft tube, it’ll shake them up without causing any real damage and get them off our tail long enough to enter the Mill.”Chance Raschen suggested. "I can help with the needed surgery " Tom offered. (reply: Chance or CO/FO) The clock was ticking and ticking very fast - what would happen? (reply:Chance, CO any on bridge) (posted by: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious- Bridge- CO, Captain Saleke - Day 2 - 2051) "Captain, confirmed hit near their secondary dorsal phaser array, on deck 8" Andrus reported. Saleke nodded slightly, only a "lucky" hit at this distance would translate into damage on the Rosenante as of yet and it was unlikely the ship would have suffered any significant damage from a single torpedo owing both to its shielding and the effects of the SEDIS on the Furious' sensors. "Continue your firing pattern Mr. Williams until you are sure of your target." (Reply: Andrus) "Captain, the targeting computers are having a hard time syncing a firing solution...it looks like a subroutine problem within the target scanners. I doubt we'll have time to correct the error before the Rosenante blows us out of the stars." The engineer on bridge duty called out. Saleke turned the command chair to look at the man and arched an eyebrow at him. "Mr. Matrix please restrain your negative comments and find a solution. The Rosenate's protective systems have been designed for this kind of engagement which is why I have instructed the tactical officer on the means to combat it. The targeting lock will be unreliable in this encounter which is why we will be using a visual lock when the Furious is within close range. At best this kind of maneuver is less than ideal but can be made to work with the proper weaponry ... and our weaponry has been converted. Also the THIS system was designed to maintain some independence from the targeting programs and make use the skills of the tactical officer." (Reply: Steve) "Do what you can with the firing lock Mr. Matrix but be prepared to switch to damage control, this encounter will not be successful without the Furious taking some damage. I anticipate they will be attempting to force us off our course to mitigate pursuit and allow them to enter the field." (Reply: Steve) "Incoming fire." Holis shouted as he watched the main sensor readouts. The ship shook from phaser fire that was absorbed by the ships' shielding. The wash of energy caused the display to brighten perceptibly. "Damage?" Saleke called. "Shielding down thirteen percent." Came the reply. "No structural damage." "Range." He added. "Reading 23,000 kilometers captain." The helmsman replied. "We'll be able to see the whites of their eyes pretty soon." That colloquialism earned a cocked eyebrow. "Explain." The helmsman glanced back at the vulcan and gave an embarrassed grin. "Sorry sir, it means we will be within sort range within the next two minutes." The Furious launched another volley, this time the speeding torpedoes shot through the protective phaser fire and all detonated though the Rosenante was not slowed. "Doctor." Holis answered quickly. "I'm picking up residual reflected energy from all three strikes captain, they detonated close enough to shake the Rosenante up a bit. That gives me a lot to go on." The betazoids fingers flew over the inputs as he reprogrammed the sensors and began zeroing out the sensor "ghost" that the SEDIS system was using to mask the ships true location. "Give me just a moment." "Entering short range captain." "Thank you helmsman, Doctor Gralen..." "Just a sec... got em!" Holis called, the ship on screen shifted to a different location. "I've managed to reroute the sensors' main inputs to account for the displacement of their stealth system, we should be able to get an accurate reading on the THIS system now." Mr. William arm and load the modified torpedoes now." Saleke snapped. "Fire when ready." (Reply: Andrus) The ship was rocked by another barrage of phaser fire as the Bolian readied the torpedoes. "Hold this course helmsman." The captain ordered. "Yes sir." (Reply: Andrus, Matrix iyw) There was a nearly imperceptible bump when the torpedoes left the tubes and lanced out toward the Rosenante, one was swallowed up by phaser fire and detonated but the other two sliced through its shields and exploded, one amidships and one forward toward the saucer section. "Two good hits!" Holis shouted. I'm reading heavy structural damage on the Rosenante." As the other two left the tubes hungrily and crossed the intervening distance, once again one was intercepted but the second struck the ship aft near her starboard warp nacelle, a flash denoting a possible hull breach lit up the silhouette of the ship. Return phaser fire from the Rosenante rocked the Furious again as if in answer and the bridge lights dimmed momentarily. "Damage report." Saleke barked. (Reply: Matrix) "Fire phasers as well as torpedoes." Saleke ordered as the Rose slipped across the Furious' bow on a run toward the asteroid field. "Keep that ship from reaching the asteroid field." The helmsman for the Rosenante was resourceful however, using the gravitational field of the asteroid belt to pull the ship on a run for cover, it soon began outdistancing the Prometheus class cruiser. (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious- Bridge- CTSO, Ensign Andrus Williams - Day 2 - 2051.5) Andrus was working up what humans would call a sweat. Despite his misgivings firing on a Federation vessel, he did as ordered. His counterpart on the Rose was well versed in the tactical systems. He wished that the situation was not as it was - he wanted to meet his counterpart and compare notes. Williams realized his hit was lucky and was trying to better heir odds of survival when Saleke ordered ""Continue your firing pattern Mr. Williams until you are sure of your target." Andrus replied "Understood Sir". The Furious rocked as she received incoming fire from the Rosenante. Andrus stumbled and regained his balance as Captain Saleke ordered him to " Arm and load the modified torpedoes now." Saleke snapped. "Fire when ready." Andrus fingers flew within the holographic display and he announced he was ready. Aided by the stabilized aiming information supplied by Holis, Gralen and the helm officer. "Firing" Andrus replied simply, almost softly. The ship felt a slight bump as the torpedoes left the ship on their way to the Rose. The Rosenante helmsman was resourceful, attempting to cut across to the asteroid belt. Captain Saleke was on to the maneuver and ordered the Bolian to "fire phasers as well as torpedoes". Andrus was caught up in the action - his fingers moving faster than he ever thought they could. "Do what you can with the firing lock Mr. Matrix but be prepared to switch to damage control, this encounter will not be successful without the Furious taking some damage. I anticipate they will be attempting to force us off our course to mitigate pursuit and allow them to enter the field." “Understood Captain, preparing augmented damage control sequence if necessary.” said Matrix. Matrix punched up one of the hundreds of subroutines for just such encounters. In instant the computer selected a dozen scenarios that included damage assessment and control for all of the major systems. In an instant the Furious took a phaser blast. The shields held, but not without energy distributions throughout the ship. "Damage report." Saleke barked. “Sir, shields down to seven percent, no structural damage. I’m rerouting power to the shields from the auxiliary power systems.” replied Matrix. (Reply any, all) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Engineering- CEO- Lieutenant Alimi Morrow -Day 2 - 2053) The ride was a little bumpy in main engineering but the minor shockwave damage to the secondary phaser array had already been repaired, by simply recalibrating the targeting system. The entire engineering crew stood by tensely watching as the ship shook periodically. Alimi stood monitoring the ship's weapon output and shield regeneration rates. All was well, the furious had hardly done any damage at all, and what little bit of shield degeneration had taken place from the limited affects of the shockwaves had dissipated almost immediately. Alimi looked up to see the twin warp cores pulsing in near unison. The primary core was working flawlessly. It didn't even know there was a battle going on. ^=Salid to Engineering. I need more power, bring the second drive into synch and feed the additional power to the impulse engines. Give Mister Rixx, control from the Bridge.=^= Alimi stepped over to the WYSER control consol and tapped out the commands that would synchronize the dual warp core, increasing the available power for the ship's critical functions. Once he had confirmed that the system was working he tapped his commbadge, even as the ship shook again. "Understood captain, the WYSER is activated and both cores are now in synch. Additional power re-routed to the impulse engines." He replied. For a while, time seemed to speed up as a million things were happening all at the same time. Alimi barked orders and directed personnel as quickly as he could, all the while working the consoles to stabilize this power spike or reroute that subsystem as the situation dictated. Then the unthinkable happened. When the first two torpedoes from the Furious passed through the ship's shields without any resistance, Alimi suddenly realized that the Furious was out to kill them all. Before that moment he had thought that the Furious would try to disable them, or perhaps force them to surrender. He had not really entertained the idea that another federation ship would purposefully go out of their way to destroy another ship in their fleet, especially since captain Salid wasn't really attempting to do any significant damage to the Furious. Alimi had heard that the captain of the other ship was a Vulcan, and he would have thought that a member of that oh-so-logical species would realize that Salid wasn't really wishing to do any harm to the other ship. He also realized that if Salid had really wanted to do so, he could have seriously damaged, if not destroyed the Furious by now. The facts were straight forward. The Rosenante class was simply a more advanced and power starship than the Prometheus class, built nearly 20 years prior. Yet instead of really going all out, the captain remained reserved, almost as if he were reluctant to return fire for fear of causing too much damage to the Furious. Structural damage was serious, and Alimi had dispatched damage control teams to the general area, so that Rixx could give them more information and further direction once they'd gotten close. There were EPS relays and power conduits that were severed, but operations had by passed those damaged areas with incredible skill and speed and had maintained the supply of power to critical ship's systems. The SERDACS system was running at full speed. transporting damaged some of the damaged components out and transporting the newly replicated components in to their place. This was saving his engineers some time, but there were some areas that were so badly damaged that the SERDACS simply couldn't help there. For that he'd need to send a Damage control team. The ship shook again, this time followed by a sudden sound of rending metal, as a portion of the back wall of the compartment fractured and disappeared into the depths of space. Alimi was yanked off his feet, as were many others. Some, like him were fortunate enough to slam into some console, railing or other barrier and were able to arrest their movement towards the gaping maw of the void that lay just beyond the bulk head. A few were not as lucky, as their bodies were blown out into the silent cold depths of space. the temperature plummeted rapidly, but Alimi refused to let go of the console that he was gripping with a near iron grip. Just as he was thinking that he couldn't hold on any longer, the emergency force field kicked on and the massive suction suddenly stopped, dropping the survivors to the deck. Alimi's arms were burning from the strain, and several other engineers were gasping hungrily for breath as they realized that they were still alive. Some were writing in pain, struck by flying debris, or injured as they landed unexpectedly on the deck. The Chief Engineer took one good look around the compartment, caught his breath and tapped his commbadge. "Morrow to medical, I need a medical team in Main Engineering. I have serious casualties down here." NRPG: Some of these injuries will be coming your way Shawn once Ichijo assigns them, so get ready. There are also other areas were there are likely to be injuries, so there should be plenty to write about, feel free to elaborate. (reply Ichijo, Lopez) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante -Bridge - COPS, Lieutenat Tom Jackson - Day 2 -2054) Tom had been tossed against his console. He had a slight cut on his forehead and some bad bruises but was doing ok. Jacskon listened as the Co and Jon Hayati spoke. Tom mutterde to himself "I bet that Captain has a dilemma" as the firing continued. Jackson had sent Robbie Smith and Chief Sheridan to assist the Engineering teams with damage control efforts. Tom had evacuated the areas hardest him, reinforcing sturctural integrity fields as he could. Tom;s thougth=s were brought back to the here and now when he heard the CO yell. "All hands brace for impact!" Ahmed ordered, even as the two torpedoes somehow by-passed the Rosenante's shields completely and impacted against the hull of his ship. Tom was flung about as if the stocky man was a rag doll. "Jackson, Evacuate those decks and notify medical. Rixx, dispatch damage control teams" the capitan orderd "We're evacuting the affected area Captain" T.J. replied as he quickly determined where the hits had occurred and worked with Ensign Rixx and the the Damage Control teams to get things repaired as fast as possible. "Sick Bay - bridge here - send medical teams to the areas recently hit - several casualties" Tom stated. (reply: Sick Bay) Tom watched Ensign Rixx as she worked. She was impressive as if she were born to the job Jackson thought. Chance had guided them to the Captain Salid issed additional orders. "Jackson, Rixx, I want you both working on with damage control. I want this ship fully operational as quickly as possible. Mister Rixx, I need a detailed damage control report as quickly as you can get it done." "Aye, Aye Sir" Jackson replied . Tom set to work to determine what power he could re-route and who he could send to help. Rixx had her young hands full. That should start Saleke thinking." “Affirmative, Captain, “V’Shera replied as her nimble fingers flew over her tactical console’s pads. “I’ve keyed up engineering specs on the Prometheus class ships and am now targeting those structural points related to navigation and sensor controls.” Another touch on the her pads, “our weapons are now locked onto those points on the Furious, should she fire on us, Captain. I believe we will have a excellent chance to effectively interfere with the Furious’ pursuit of us, if we see her charging her weapons.” Ahmed simply nodded for the moment, he'd given his orders and he had no doubt that he would be obeyed. "Mister Nayati,” Captain Salid said turning his attention to his third Officer. “Tell me what you saw from Saleke while he was on the screen." Jon answered, “Sir, I saw a logical Vulcan starship captain on the horns of a dilemma. My read on his aura indicated that he had a genuine desire to find out why the Rose is out here and what had happened on the Bardon Colony. I also saw that he was quite conflicted over the idea of having to fight a ship-to-ship with us. I suspect this is why he was so interested in having us stand down, so he could determine what was going on here. It was his logical mind and sense of duty fighting with his Vulcan reticence to unnecessarily kill other sentient life. I also saw a Vulcan who was genuinely surprised in reference to your assertion that he was a part of a deliberate conspiracy against you and the Rose. He is an idealistic, logic driven captain who uses his formidable powers to carry out Star Fleet orders. He is not the type of starship captain who would violate the constraints of Star Fleet for personal gain.” Ahmed nodded, "That tells me that as of this moment, he doesn't realize he's being manipulated into this course of action." the captain replied. Jon paused for a moment, and then spoke again. “Our unexpected escape from Captain Saleke’s custody with be perceived by him as an admission of guilt. Star Fleet dictates will leave him no other options but to pursue, capture and possibly destroy us.” "I wouldn't expect any less from him. He is after all a starfleet Officer of good repute." Ahmed replied, "And It's what I would do." “Our only hope is to catch those posing as the Rosenante crew and find out what’s going on before the Furious catches up to us. I suggest Mr. V’Shera also needs to target the Furious’ communication arrays, as well, Captain. That would prevent the Furious from re-routing any other Federation star ships that could be heading toward the Bardon Colony to begin pursuing us.” It was a sound suggestion, and although Ahmed did not like the idea of making the Furious unable to communicate, it would aid their current mission if they did not have to worry about additional reinforcements being aligned against them. Ahmed nodded. "Mister Sullivan, there are three communications arrays on the Prometheus class starship. I want them destroyed, but keep the damage localized." "Aye captain." Sullivan replied. Through his HUD, Ahmed watched as the Rosenante's modulated phasers began slamming into the Furious' shields. The Prometheus class was well defended and was designed to take a pounding. There was a marginal change in their shield efficiency. The Engineer-turned-captain, pulled up some scans of their pursuer and made some quick calculations. "Mister Rixx, Adjust phaser modulation to 16.028 millicycles at pulse variance .0326 millichocranes on a 13 millisecond rate." Ahmed commanded. (reply Rixx) A few moments later the phaser blasts burned through the Furious' shields, and Sullivan's deadly accuracy destroyed the communications arrays on the Prometheus class starship. "Direct hit, captain, we have penetrated their shields and have destroyed the Furious' long range communications arrays." "Mister V'Shera, fire on their sensors and impulse engines before they get a chance to recalibrate their shields." (reply V'Shera) Jackson reported that there was minor damage to the ventral secondary phaser array caused by the shockwave. A quick glance at the displays indicated that the array was still functional and that the damage was very slight indeed. A quick review of V'Shera's action indicated a direct hit to the Furious' tactical sensor array and short range sensors. The damage was slight, but they'd be forced to recalibrate to get a better lock on the Rosenante at this stage. Additional strikes against the Prometheus class vessel's impulse engines had little affect, they lost just a few percent in their efficiency. It was nothing significant, but it might be enough to buy the Rosenante the critical time that she needed. Further phaser blasts seemed to stop at the other vessel's shields. "They've remodulated their shields captain." "Distance to the Mill?" he asked. Sullivan tapped out a few commands on her interface, "185,000 kilometers Captain." she replied. "Range to the Furious." "22300 kilometers." ~They're right on top of us.~ Ahmed tapped his commbadge, "Salid to Engineering. I need more power, bring the second drive into synch and feed the additional power to the impulse engines. Give mister Rixx, control from the Bridge." =^= Understood captain, the WYSER is activated and both cores are now in synch. Additional power re-routed to the impulse engines.=^= Ahmed closed the channel to Engineering. "Mister Rixx, increase the impulse reactor flow, 12.5%, and prepare to bring the spiral drive online for a two second spurt. Activate it on my command." (reply Rixx) Ahmed knew that once the Spiral drive activated, the Rosenante would surge forward. With the subspace conduit active, the subspace drag of the Rosenante would be reduced, for a brief instant the Rosenante would achieve a speed of warp one, using impulse engines only. The limitation of going to warp in the gravity well would be reduced to negligible as the conduit would allow the ship to ignore the gravimetric eddies that prevented normal warp travel. A two-second burst would put them within 10,000 kilometers of the edge of the mill, and home free, at least for the moment. The ship rocked, as the shockwave from three photon torpedoes slammed into the Rosenante's dorsal shielding, managing to slip past Sullivan's protective phaser fire, the range was too close to allow her enough time to respond accurately. ~They've got us triangulated now.~ Ahmed thought. "Continuous phaser fire, target their forward shield generators." Ahmed commanded, hoping that a harsh string of phaser fire would cause the Vulcan commander to break off his pursuit for just a second longer. "Firing." Sullivan replied. (reply V'Shera) NRPG: Both Sullivan and V'Shera can follow this order, since they both have a THIS interface. Streams of high yield phased energy reached across the distance between the two starships. The near continuous beams of phaser fire, slammed into the forward shields of the Furious. "Several direct hits. Their forward shields are at twenty-two percent, but regenerating fast." Sullivan reported. Three torpedoes arced through the space between the Furious and the Rosenante. To the credit of her tactical crew, despite the sort distance, one of the three torpedoes was destroyed by a blast of phaser fire, the other two were inbound directly for the Rosenante. It was now apparent that the SEDIS was no longer effective. "All hands brace for impact!" Ahmed ordered, even as the two torpedoes somehow by-passed the Rosenante's shields completely and impacted against the hull of his ship. The shockwave of the impact was incredible and was almost enough to knock Ahmed out of his seat. "Two direct hits." Sullivan reported. "The torpedoes ignored our shields completely." "Damage report." (reply Rixx) "Jackson, Evacuate those decks and notify medical. Rixx, dispatch damage control teams." (reply Jackson, Rixx) "Mister Nayati, aid medical." (reply Nayati) "Two more torpedoes incoming." Sullivan reported. They were too close to evade them, so there was no need to give that order. Once again one of the two tactical officers managed to destroy one of the torpedoes, but the second struck the Rosenante aft, near her starboard warp nacelle. "Return phaser fire." Ahmed ordered. The phasers lanced out in retribution and struck the already weakened forward shields of the Furious. "Their forward shields are at 9%." "Mister Raschen, cut across their bow, 3% port side." The Rosenante slid sideways, making a tight course correction, even as the Furious fired more torpedoes and began firing phasers. The Torpedoes, had to arc outwards due to the sudden shift of angle between the two ships, the velocity of the torpedoes and the relative short distance between the two ships was such that the torpedoes simply couldn't turn tightly enough. All three torpedoes were destroyed by phaser fire, even as the Furious was pouring her own phaser fire into the dorsal shields of the Rosenante. Ahmed knew that he could deal a significant amount of damage to the Prometheus class starship, but he was determined to minimize casualties or damage to the ship, if he could. As a result the Rosenante was taking a beating. More alarms sounded, when Chance finally spoke. “Captain, we are coming up on the Mill, request full control of the ship from point of entry till we exit on the other side sir.” His security chief requested. "You have full Helm Control Mister Raschen." Ahmed replied. “Sorry sir, I just need full maneuvering and weapons control.” Chance said in a more subdued tone as he turned to face the center of the bridge. "Why do you require weapons control lieutenant?" Salid asked. “Because any weapon that gets fired causes the ship to ever so slightly rock and/or shift; I need to control all the ship’s shifting and rocking while we’re in there. Especially if I’m expected to get us back out alive. Is that a reasonable enough answer sir?” Chance explained his request as he checked the helm console. Ahmed considered it for a moment. "That won't be necessary, mister Raschen. Once we're inside the field, there will no longer be a need for weapons fire." “Might I suggest that we prepare a few torpedoes armed with shockwave warheads set to detonate a half click off the Furious’ bow? Fired from the aft tube, it’ll shake them up without causing any real damage and get them off our tail long enough to enter the Mill.” Ahmed nodded. "Mister V'Shera, set up a full spread and make the proximity as close as possible to the Furious' bow. With her weakened forward shields she'll have to alter course or risk serious damage." (reply V'Shera) "Fire." Ahmed ordered, then watched as the torpedoes streaked toward their target. This time, The Vulcan captain took the most logical course, he deviated course just enough that the incoming torpedoes would strike a different set of shields, by shifting the Furious along a tangent course. By the time the torpedoes detonated and Saleke realized that they would have done no harm, the damage had been done and the Rosenante had gained significant ground. "Mister Rixx, 1.5 second burst- activate the Spiral drive." (reply Rixx) The Spiral drive activated and the Rosenante took a sudden warp one jump, allowing them to gain significant ground. When the jump terminated, the Rosenante was less than 5000 kilometers from the field. Chance banked the Rosenante neatly into the field, using a large asteroidal body to block their line of sight from the Furious, who was turning and already attempting to regain her lost ground. "Discontinue the SEDIS and activate the HISS" Ahmed ordered. "Compete Emissions protocol." (reply Rixx) They passed a few more Magnesite infused asteroids, blocking the Furious' ability to tracker her on sensors. With the HISS active, the Rosenante was once again undetectable. "Mister Raschen, find us a large Asteroid and bring us in close. Match her attitude, speed and course, then maintain relative distance and speed. We're going to hide for a while." (reply Raschen) Ahmed turned to the rest of his bridge officers. "Jackson, Rixx, I want you both working on damage control. I want this ship fully operational as quickly as possible. Mister Rixx, I need a detailed damage control report as quickly as you can get it done." (reply Jackson, Rixx) "Mister V'Shera, I want you to review the tactical logs. I want to know how those torpedoes by-passed our shield, without so much as a by-your-leave. If you need to study some of the wreckage, feel free to do so. Make that your priority" He turned to Jennifer. "You're a trained physician and I think that Sickbay could use all the help that it can get. I'd appreciate it if you'd give them a hand. I also think it's a good idea for one of us to be seen." (reply Caskie) "Mister Raschen, you'll remain at the helm." (reply Raschen, Caskie, Rixx, Jackson, V'Shera, Nayati, Any) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Bridge- ACEO - Ensign (jg) Mitena Rixx - Day 2 - 2057) The repair crew on Deck 8 completed its task as quickly as she thought they would. The repair wasn't a fix as much as it was a recalibration. Mitena made certain the repair was logged for completion sometime after... well, the mess they were in at current. She nodded to herself as though it settled something and then rolled her eyes at the console when she'd realized what she'd done. With that complete and no other needs, she returned her attention to the SEDIS and adjusted the ghost's route slightly hopefully it would help with causing the Furious difficulty in finding a firing solution on the ship. Partially, her attention was on what was being said and what orders were being given. She wanted to make sure that she didn't miss any orders. She passed the new telemetry information of the sensor ghost over to sensors and tactical. "Mister Rixx, Adjust phaser modulation to 16.028 millicycles at pulse variance .0326 millichocranes on a 13 millisecond rate." The Captain ordered. She pulled up the phaser protocols and made the directed changes before responding. The request was simple to accomplish. "The alteration has been made, Captain." The effects netted the loss several key systems on the Furious. It didn't put them out of the battle. Certainly it was something that they could repair. But it would take them time. The window of opportunity closed before much impact could be made on their impulse engines. "Salid to Engineering. I need more power, bring the second drive into synch and feed the additional power to the impulse engines. Give Mister Rixx, control from the Bridge." =^= Understood captain, the WYSER is activated and both cores are now in synch. Additional power re-routed to the impulse engines.=^= "Mister Rixx, increase the impulse reactor flow, 12.5%, and prepare to bring the spiral drive online for a two second spurt. Activate it on my command." She spared one last glance to the unfolding scene on the view screen. Necessary controls came up under her fingers as she moved across the console making adjustments and confirming acceptance of the control procedures for the spiral drive. "The impulse reactor flow has been increased 12.5%. Spiral drive is ready for your command." The ship shook again. According to the readout the impacts were to the dorsal shields. She was quite certain that the SEDIS was no longer useful. Per the orders that she'd been given to discontinue its function when it became apparent that it was no longer useful, Mitena shut off the system. Operations would certainly not mind being able to reallocate the power to other systems. "All hands brace for impact!" The captain ordered as two torpedoes impacted. The warning hadn't been nearly early enough. Though Mitena had been holding the console as tightly as she could, somehow her right shoulder had decided to make close friends with the corner of the station. She brought her left hand up and rubbed the shoulder. ~It'll be fine.~ she thought frowning as a sharp pain went across her shoulder blade. ~not broken.~ Immediately the console before her lit up like it was part of the parade of lights. She knew what the captain would be asking her next and began to set priorities on the malfunctioning systems. The ship was in far more pain then she was at the moment so she focused her attention on that. "Two direct Hits" Sullivan reported "The torpedoes ignored our shields completely." "Damage Report" "Environmental subsystem is sporadically online. We've lost our forward tractor beam emitter. Deck 9s lifeboats are not responding. Several fires throughout Decks 5-9." "Jackson, Evacuate those decks and notify medical. Rixx, dispatch damage control teams." "Yes Sir." Mitena said. After a quick status check on the damage control teams she began dispatching them to the locations where the internal systems weren't taking care of the fires before they became out of control. There would be a cascade effect through the whole of the ship if the fires didn't get put out. When Lt. Sullivan announced that there were more torpedoes incoming, Mitena grabbed the console with left hand in anticipation. "Return phaser fire." The captain ordered. "Captain, we have a hull breach in main engineering." She said updating him before he could ask for another damage report. So caught up in rerouting systems and directing the crews to the areas with the most damage she almost missed the captain's order. "Mister Rixx, 1.5 second burst- activate the Spiral drive." In the time it would take for her to respond and activate the drive, 1.5 seconds would have long passed. Instead of wasting time, her response was to simply do as ordered. "Discontinue the SEDIS and activate the HISS" Ahmed ordered. "Compete Emissions protocol." "SEDIS has been disengaged. Commencing emissions protocol." She replied hoping that the Furious wouldn't be able to find them amongst the asteroid field. With any luck they would be completely undetectable. "Mister Raschen, find us a large Asteroid and bring us in close. Match her attitude, speed and course, then maintain relative distance and speed. We're going to hide for a while." That order delivered, he turned to the rest of the bridge crew. "Jackson, Rixx, I want you both working on damage control. I want this ship fully operational as quickly as possible. Mister Rixx, I need a detailed damage control report as quickly as you can get it done." "Yes sir, as soon as possible. Lieutenant Jackson, I'll send you the current assignments so that you know where the teams are." (jg) Jon Nayati – 2057) It didn’t take long for Jon’s predictions about Captain Saleke’s aggressive reaction to the Rose’s unexplained flight to come horribly true. The Rose was on red alert when the pursing Furious launched two of photon torpedoes at Jon’s ship. Though Lt. Sullivan’s and Ensign V’Shera’s excellent marksmanship destroyed both torpedoes, that didn’t stop the conflict between the Rose and the Furious. In fact the shooting between the two powerful Federation star ships escalated dramatically. Phaser and photon torpedo fire was hotly exchanged between both star ship captains’ vessels. Phasers and ship’s shields were recalibrated on both sides. The Furious lost its long distance communications array. Jon was happy to witness that latter feat on V’Shera and Sullivan’s part. Jon was about to breathe a well earned sigh of relief, when the Furious launched three photon torpedoes at the Rose. One was destroyed but the other two effortlessly passed through the Rose’s defensive shields as though they were thin air. The Rose shuttered violently under the Furious’ devastating photonic attack. Immediately damage and causality reports came in from all over the Rose. Captain Salid mobilized damage control parties and Sickbay details. "Mister Nayati, aid medical," Captain Salid said. “Leaving, – “ Jon waited, until Ensign V’Shera and Lt. Sullivan dealt with another brace of incoming Furious torpedoes, before getting up completely. It was provident that Jon had waited, as the only surviving torpedo impacted and detonated aft, just off the Rose’s starboard warp nacelle. The star ship shook again, though not as bad as before. “ -, now Sir.” Jon left the third seat just as return Rose phaser fire blasted the Furious weakened forward shields. Jon stepped through the bridge doors to sounds of phaser and torpedo fire behind him. Jon stepped into a near by torbolift. “Sickbay,” Jon said to lift’s audio sensor. The turbo lift responded at once. ~I've been all use I could be on the bridge now. The door opened slightly slower then she was used to, but considering the heavy drain from fields and weapon systems, that was not surprising. The ACMO glanced back at one of the techs that was bringing up the rear. “Has OPS confirmed that it has reserved an allotment for at least ten transports?” After a momentary consultation with his combadge, the man reported “Yes, doctor as long as total mass is less than 1200 kg per 15 seconds” “I think that we might be able to manage that” Kimiko responded as she stepped on the bridge. A few moments later modulated phaser blasts burned through the Furious' shields, and Sullivan's deadly accuracy destroyed the communications arrays on the Prometheus class starship. "Direct hit, captain, we have penetrated their shields and have destroyed the Furious' long range communications arrays.” Captain Salid turned his destructive attention to another vital star ship system. "Mister V'Shera, fire on their sensors and impulse engines, before they get a chance to recalibrate their shields." “Targeted and firing,’ V’Shera replied, even as fired on the stricken Furious. ~She’s been hit, but not hurt enough to keep her out the fight- or keep us out trouble. Not by a blinking long shot. ~ Much to V’Shera’s chagrin, she saw that her following phaser fire stopped at the Furious newly strengthened shields. "They've remodulated their shields captain." V’Shera heard one of the other bridge officer’s report. Possibly Mister Rixx was that officer. Captain Salid requested distances between the rose and the Mill, and between him and the Furious. Then Rose received two direct photon torpedo hits, hits that passed through the Rose’s raised shields as though they were non-existent! This was not good, not good at all. Damage sites and injury reports were immediately reported to Captain Salid. Out of the corner right ear she heard Captain Salid order 30 Nayati down to sickbay. There wasn’t much he could do with psychic powers on the bridge now. It was at this point that Lt. Raschen requested helm control from the captain. Once outside the turbo lift adjacent to sickbay the corridor was a ghastly scene of controlled chaos and bloody carnage. The hot, stifling air was heavy with the mixed scents of burnt alien flesh, death and internal body fluids there now externalized by their owners’ extensive wounds. There were loud cries of intense pain and anguish as doctors and nurses from all enclosed Rose races struggled to comfort and reassured their injured patients, while at the same time trying to communicate patient symptoms to each other and implement the necessary treatments for all their wounded. The physicians’” medical treatments included those causalities that were already there, plus those new patients rushed in by crash teams from where the Rose had sustained damage from the Furious’ destructive photonic blasts. The worst thing for Jon was the telepathic screams a of pain and disperse that hammered at his hyper sensitive psyche, despite the strong mind shields he had erected on his way down to sickbay. Jon was no stranger to the mental anguish and physical pain of the wounded, that was part and particle of being an NCR II telepath. But he didn’t like that suffering either. Not on Necron Red, or now on the Rose! ~It was just something I’ve got to endure all this, Great Spirit, so I can aid the stricken of my this, my latest, tribe.~ So more fortified by his pleas to the usually beneficent Great Spirit, Jon quickly worked his way to where CMO Aleesa Wyler was directing the medical efforts of her subordinate doctors and nurses. (Reply Wyler) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious -Bridge - CO, Captain Saleke- Day 2 -2110) As the Rosenante slipped into the asteroid field with the Furious in pursuit and disappeared from sensors the captain pondered the next tactical move, either captain Salid would work his way through the debris and use it to mask his escape or he would find some appropriate chunk of stellar debris to hide behind while he awaited repairs to his vessel. Saleke himself had used that gambit against the Myenru commander when the Hades had been hit by a variant of the genesis torpedo and needed repairs before reemerging to take on and defeat the Myenru warfleet. If indeed he did use the cover of the field to repair his vessel the chances for finding it within were miniscule due to the presence of the magnesite ore coupled with the Rosenante's stealth systems, the logical move on his part at this time then would be to move the Furious to the other side of the field and await the Rosenante where he could be deal with it in Tri-V mode when the ship left cover. "Helm change course to 223 mark 5 and chart a course around the field at best speed, we will take up station behind the fifth planet and await their exit from the field." "Aye sir." The helmsman responded and went to work. "Mr Williams stand by on weapons, Mr. Matrix damage control report." (Reply: Williams, Matrix) "Engage when the course is locked in." His right index finger disengaged the red alert klaxon and triggered yellow alert, the entire bridge crew seemed to exhale in relief at the stepped down level of readiness. From his right he sensed he approach of a form and looked up to see Dr. Gralen coming to a stop next to the command chair. "Dr. you are needed at your station." "Ensign Tsoumada can handle the console for a moment captain, might I have a private word with you?" Saleke studied the Betazoid for a moment before turning to Commander Sloane. "Commander you have the CONN, Dr. Gralen to my Ready Room." He slid out of the chair and stepped around Erin as she took his place then headed for the chamber. (Reply: Erin iyw) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - CMO- Lieutenant Aleesa Wyler -Day 2 - 2111*) Casualties were already keeping them very busy in main sick bay. The range of life threatening injuries varied of course, from broken bones, lacerations and contusions, to more serious hematomas and decompression injuries. There were even a few plasma burns and some shrapnel injuries to deal with. Currently there were six doctors on duty in the main sick bay, four in the secondary sickbay and two on the trauma response teams. The most frightening aspect was that Aleesa didn't think it was enough. Doctor Reynolds was fighting desperately to save a crewman's left arm after it had been nearly severed by a piece of flying debris when Main engineering had temporarily decompressed during the battle. Doctors Run'at, Carter, Rofar, and Sellick were all working on serious plasma burns, hematomas or head injuries, which left Aleesa working the slightly less serious cases as she could and directing a great many of the nurses and medics who were tending the other injured in the bay. Thirty six injured, just in this bay alone and the last report that she had received from the secondary bay, there were another 22 there. These numbers did not, of course include any of the ambulatory injured or those that had not yet been reported as injured, or were in the immediate care of the triage/rescue teams throughout the ship. "Twelve CC's of aprovaline please nurse, followed by 25 cc's Marzol Isolate." she ordered as she was finishing up the last of the critical treatment for a plasma burn victim. Her goal was to stabilize and treat for discomfort first and consider the longer term reconstruction and repair of the damaged areas a little later. "Understood doctor." Nurse Jones replied, as she set the air hypos and began administering the drugs. "After that reclassify this patient as stable and have them transferred to the galley for monitoring." "Yes doctor." Aleesa turned to figure out who her next patient should be when the doors to sickbay parted. Under normal circumstances she wouldn't have thought twice about it, as she would have been expecting more casualties, but in this instance, she stopped and noted that it was the First officer, and Prior CMO that had entered the bay. She looked neither injured nor was she escorting a casualty. ~They don't think I can handle this.~ The thought flowed through her mind. She forced herself to stop staring at the First Officer and to refocus on the next patient, a Young Andorian woman, with a severe looking laceration in her forehead. She had just picked up her tricorder to do a scan when Caskie approached her and spoke. "The Captain suggested that I would probably be more use here than on the Bridge at present and to be honest I agree. At present I am simply a spare part on the bridge. Here at least I can help. What do you need me to do?" Aleesa regarded her for a moment. Considering the situation we could probably use your help just about anywhere." She said with a sigh, still a little uncertain as to how to handle this entire mess. "Also might I suggest that the secondary Sickbay could use another doctor. We could send the EMH there to help. Or if you would rather not be second guessed I could go there." Josh grinned. "You're the CMO, it's your Sickbay, it's your choice." "Second Guessing aside," Alee said as she stepped closer to the First Officer. "This is my first combat trauma operation, so you're advice is much needed here. Let's activate the EMH in the secondary sickbay to aid Doctor Lopez and the others and you can make certain I don't so something worthy of an intern here. Unless you think we need to swap that around. I'll bow to your experience in these matters. I'd be amiss in my duties if I did otherwise." (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Bridge - FO- Cmdr.-Erin Sloane Day 2, 2112) Erin watched as the Rosenante slipped past them and managed to get into the Asteroid field in an instant. The Rosenante had an excellent helmsman, although their own Ensign Tsoumada was no slouch either. For a moment Erin wanted to cheer the fact that the Rosenante had escaped, it was a reaction borne of the fact that she was always rooting for the underdog in any conflict. A psychological condition that sometimes impaired her judgment. She'd paid close attention to the details of the battle, how every one of the Rosenante's attacks had seemed to be designed to cause the Furious to deviate from the pursuit. The weakening of the furious' forward shields with a heavy barrage of continuous phaser fire, was just enough to make Salid's bluff with the torpedo attack serious enough to make Saleke alter his course slightly. It was just enough of an edge to allow the Rosenante to avoid capture. Her analysis of the torpedo trajectories had indicated that they would have never caused any significant damage as they would have detonated ahead of the Furious. The attack had been a bluff, that Salid had employed against Saleke's well disciplined and logical mind. And it seemed to have worked. When Doctor Gralen stood and requested permission to speak with the Captain on a private matter, Erin realized that it was going to be a conversation that mirrored some of her own thoughts. However much she disagreed with the captain on his handling of the Rosenante, she still didn't feel that he'd quite overstepped his bounds as captain of the Furious. That may well change in the future, but for now Erin maintained that the captain knew information that was driving him to the extremes that he was taking. Erin knew only a small bit of that information, but for now she felt that it was enough to continue to support her captain. Saleke studied the Betazoid for a moment before turning to Commander Sloane. "Commander you have the CONN, Dr. Gralen to my Ready Room." He slid out of the chair and stepped around Erin as she took his place then headed for the chamber. "Aye sir, I have the bridge." She replied, before assuming the freshly vacated center seat. Once the captain was off the bridge, she issued a couple of orders. "program a telemetry probe to assume a standard orbit around Bardon Alpha, geosynchronous with the mining facility, then leave a class one sensor probe on the in system side of the asteroid field as well. I want to make certain that they don't double back. once we're past the field, drop another probe in the out-system side and another relay geosynchronous with the 5th planet's western terminus line at the time of our arrival there." "Mister Tsoumada, you'll assume a geosynchronous orbit midway between the planet's terminators on the night side. We'll use the class one and the telemetry relays to see what's happening in the system and to watch for the Rosenante." "Aye ma'am." Erin turned to look back at the Efrosian Operations officer. "Mister Yalix, do what you can to get our long-range communications rerouted through the ancillary systems. And see if we can remotely download the sensor logs and security tapes from the facility, provided that they are intact." "Right away, commander." The Efrosian replied. "Everyone else, start looking for that ship." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious -Ready Room - CO, Captain Saleke- Day 2 -2113) Holis followed the Vulcan into the Ready Room and stepped up to the desk as Saleke slipped into the chair behind it, the captain then gave him a nod and spoke. "Yes doctor." Holis leaned forward, placing his hands on the desk as he locked gazes with the vulcan, his forehead was glistening from a thin sheen of sweat from the adrenalin rush he had experienced during the battle. Had he not known Saleke he would never have uttered what was on his mind, as it was he wondered if he still might find himself in the brig after the conversation ended. "I hope you're proud of yourself captain, you performed your duty admirably." The vulcan's eyes narrowed slightly at the comment. "Doctor vulcans are not given to pride, pride is an emotion..." "I know, I know." Holis interrupted, he felt as though he were going to explode already and that da**** vulcan stoicism was not helping matters. "And emotion is not logical... Da** it!" He leaned farther forward. "The comment was meant as sarcasm captain, did you or did you not see what I saw during the battle?" Saleke steepled his fingers as he studied the suddenly petulant CSO, considering the meaning behind his words. "What I saw doctor was the captain of a federation starship who had incriminated himself by refusing to cooperate with an investigation that had yet to be started, who ran when given the opportunity to exonerate himself and his ship and who implied that I was a possible antagonist when my purpose and that of the Furious in this instance was merely to find the truth behind the allegations." "That's not what I was talking about Saleke!" The scientist stood back up suddenly and raised his arms in helplessness. "Or maybe part of it." He let out an explosive breath before finding the words he was looking for. "That ship is a hell of a lot more powerful than she showed, has it not occurred to you that captain Salid was holding back?. Well did it? Scans showed her to be at full operability captain." Saleke's eyes narrowed at the inference. "Are you implying doctor that I used excessive force?" "Yes I am!" Holis placed his hands on the desk once again as he leaned toward the vulcan. "I understand that it's good to have your own command again and I can't imagine how it must feel to be in command of a starship but we're not in the civil war Saleke, we're all playing on the same team again, do you have to destroy another ship to prove you deserve the chair?" "Doctor you have no understanding of the circumstances or the orders we are operating under in this instance." The vulcan's voice had gone colder than normal with a hard edge. "Because of that I have given you a certain amount of leeway in questioning my motivations, should you however feel the need to vent your frustrated emotions the ready room is not the proper place for such a display." "What circumstances? What orders?" Holis modulated his tone a bit but his frustration was still evident. "I am constrained from revealing that doctor." "Does commander Sloane know what is going on then?" The betazoid asked, gritting his teeth to keep from exploding. "She knows enough to know that the steps I have taken have been necessary." "Phaaagh!" Holis stood up and dropped his hands. "I still don't like it." "Your acceptance is not necessary doctor. As I told commander Sloane there are avenues to be exploited should you believe I have overstepped my authority, also as I have informed her my role in this instance is not to determine guilt or innocence until all the facts have been thoroughly investigated, a necessary step I was deprived of by captain Salid's reticence." "That's another thing." The scientist shook his head. "He acted like we're involved in some sort of conspiracy against him, don't you think that would be a good reason for his actions?" "Illogical." Saleke replied. "His best recourse would be cooperation rather than antagonism." "You've got to remember captain you're dealing with illogical beings who don't have access to your perfectly logical mind." Holis couldn't keep the sarcasm out of his voice. "You are implying then that captain Salid is innocent? His actions portray otherwise." "Then why didn't he go all out and try to destroy the Furious to preserve his escape? Why spar around with us and try to run? Why captain? Can you tell me that?" "No." The captain replied truthfully. "At this point I have no logical answer. The information at my disposal is as of yet incomplete." The scientist glared at him a moment before his face softened. "Well that's the truth at least, what are you going to do from here?" "What I have done to this point." Saleke stood to his feet signaling the session was at an end. "Give the Rosenante an opportunity to cooperate should captain Salid be willing or do what is necessary to insure she is no longer a threat to the peace." The taller man looked down at the scientist and nodded. "That is all I am allowed to do." The words had too much finality, Holis spun on his heel and left the Ready Room. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - FO- Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 2 - 2115) "Second Guessing aside," Alee said as she stepped closer to the First Officer. I'd be amiss in my duties if I did otherwise." Josh grinned at the CMO. "Oh I hardly think we need to go that far. This is you first Red Alert, I understand that. It's never easy but for me to take over now would be the wrong thing to do. This is your Sickbay, your staff are waiting for your orders not mine. I might just mumble some advice in your ear in passing, but you will be the one giving the orders ok. (Reply Wyler) Josh grinned. "Ok, first mumble. EMH - Secondary Sickbay. Send him there now." (Reply Wyler) "Right. Second mumble. The queue outside the door has not been triaged since all the triage personnel are busy. You should not be treating simple lacerations when someone else in the queue is more seriously injured. If you don't have any objection I will start triaging the patients outside with tags. Black tag is a simple don't bother, they are too far gone and only need pain medication. Red is priority, life threatening but treatable. Yellow is the next priority . They need to be treated but not immediately and green is simple injuries that can be treated last." "If you have no objections to that I will go get the tags now and start on the queue." (Reply Wyler) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious -Bridge - CO, Captain Saleke- Day 2 -2118) As the two men stepped back onto the bridge Ensign Tsoumada spun his chair to take in the sight of the red faced CSO and stony faced captain and wondered what had transpired but knew better than to ask. "Captain I have picked up a spiral warp trail leading out of the system, the Rosenante appears to have run." Saleke stood on the upper deck and looked at the viewer which showed the fifth planet growing in the viewscreen. "Course Mr. Tsoumada." "118 mark 3 sir." "Possible destination." Tjou looked back at the readouts as the CSO neared the station. "Hexicor Prime if they maintain course sir." Saleke cupped his hands behind his back and paused an instant before replying, to anyone who knew him a telling gesture. "Helm match course and follow at maximum cruising speed when available." "Aye sir." His orders acknowledged he turned and moved back to the Ready Room, the door sliding shut behind him. Holis stepped up to Tjou and motioned for him to give way. "Go get yourself something to drink and relax for a bit ensign, this looks like it's going to be a long night." (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Bridge - FO- Cmdr. - Erin Sloane- Day 2 -2118.5) It was apparent that there had been something of a heated discussion in the captain's ready room if the look on the CSO's face was anything to indicate what sort of conversation had taken place. Instead of relieving her at the center chair, Saleke instead walked around to the upper deck. "Captain I have picked up a spiral warp trail leading out of the system, the Rosenante appears to have run." Tsoumada reported. "Course Mr. Tsoumada?" "118 mark 3 sir." "Possible destination?" "Hexicor Prime if they maintain course sir." Saleke cupped his hands behind his back and paused an instant before replying. "Helm match course and follow at maximum cruising speed when available." "Aye sir." The Furious turned gracefully on her axis and came about to the same heading that the Rosenante had taken just before them. It looked as if the game was once again afoot. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Bridge- CO - Captain Ahmed ibn Salid - Day 2 - 2120) Ahmed sat stock still in the center seat, waiting to see if Saleke would pursue him into the asteroid field. He knew that the tables of this battle would most assuredly favor himself and his crew should the Prometheus class ship choose to breach the boundaries of the field. The lack of navigational sensors and hyper-accurate charts, not to mention the personal experience of Raschen would place Ahmed in the best tactical position. The stealth systems installed on the Rosenante coupled with the magnesite ore would really make it an unfair advantage. In addition the Prometheus class would lose it's primary advantage, it's tri-vector mode and maneuverability. It just wasn't practical to use it in such a situation, doing so would increase the change of damage to his vessel exponentially. They were running on passive subspace sensors. Another innovation that was one of the few types of sensors that were not affected by the magnesite. They measured the local curvature of subspace. That in turn helped the Rosenante detect their tormentor without using active sensors. The data was extremely limited. Relative position only, no idea how badly damaged the other vessel was though. Ahmed hoped that he was wrong about Saleke. He hoped that his fellow captain wasn't involved in the conspiracy that he was not positive was underway. ~What would I do if the roles were reversed? ~ Ahmed asked himself, then almost immediately answered, ~I'd plot best speed around the field, disperse into tri-vector and watch for the Rosenante to emerge from the field long. Then I'd engage her as quickly as possible.~ He watched the main view screen as the asteroids slowly drifted past them. "The Furious has changed course. They are on a hyperbolic course which will take them behind the fifth planet, Captain." Midas reported. Ahmed let out a quiet sigh of relief. "Stand down to yellow alert." "Yellow Alert, aye captain." Sullivan replied. "Good work everyone. We've managed to give them the slip, but if I know Captain Saleke, we'll be seeing more of him. Mister Sullivan you have the bridge, get this ship back to full operability as quickly as possible. I'll be in my ready room." "Aye Captain." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Bridge- ACEO - LT. Steven Matrix - Day 2 -2122) Matrix was looking over the engineering station, noting any anomalies. The repairs at Utopia was sure to introduce problems they didn't have time to catch during refit. That's why Matrix was aboard...to ensure that the Furious was ready for duty. The immediate issues were life support, propulsion, navigation and weapons. ~Hmmm...this is interesting.~ "Captain, I need to be in engineering. The antimatter mix is out of alignment. I think we got shaken up a bit down there." (Reply Saleke) Matrix entered the turbo lift..."Engineering." With PADD in hand Matrix downloaded the intermix status and reviewed the anomaly he noted on the bridge. Matrix locked out the primary display and replaced it with the standard status image. This was standard procedure, but didn't want to alarm the novice engineering personnel over some trivial glitch. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Main Engineering- ACEO - LT. Steven Matrix - Day 2 - 2130) It was always a pleasure to be back in engineering. The Furious was just as impeccable as any ship in the fleet. Crews were still working on repairs, but engineering was largely devoid of people. Just a handful of crewmen were visible at one of the secondary energy conduits. "Good Evening Sir," said a passing crewman. "Good Evening Chief," Matrix paused the crewman by grabbing his arm, "Chief anyone back in the intermix chamber?" asked Matrix. "No Sir...no one...that section has been tagged operational so repairs have been completed since we left space dock." replied the crewman. "Very well, thank you Chief." said Matrix and he proceeded to the intermix chamber. The status panel showed normal functionality, but a slight antimatter misalignment. "Computer, run a level 1 diagnostic on the intermix chamber and post the results on station 3." A few moments passed and the results were visible on the requested station. "Computer, why is circuit 413B showing a power fluctuation?" [There is an unknown object in the power junction box adjacent to the magnetic alignment circuit.] "Someone probably left a tool inside the damn thing," said Matrix. [Please restate the command] "Disregard computer" responded Matrix. Matrix kneeled under the junction box near the primary intermix chamber and opened the access panel. He noted a small metallic device attached to the inner wall of the access panel. ~What's this?~ Matrix grabbed a tricorder from the tool cart within reach and scanned the device. The scan results weren't expected and Matrix sat down in front of the panel. The device was a micro-explosive. Small enough to be largely ignored, but powerful enough near an intermix chamber to cause a chain reaction and destroy the ship. ~Someone planted this here...I'd better not alert anyone indirectly.~ Matrix worked for a few minutes first documenting exactly what the device was and where it was found. A visual record would be necessary to prove its intent. Matrix also completed a multi-scan on the area for any bio residue. That might come in handy later. Within a handful of minutes he was able to disarm the device and he placed it in a small sonic wrench case and headed to the bridge. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Bridge- ACEO - LT. Steven Matrix - Day 2 - 2143) Matrix entered the bridge and approached the Captain. In a low voice, "Sir, I need to speak with you privately please," said Matrix. (Reply Saleke) Matrix and the Captain entered his ready room just off the bridge. Matrix waited until the door closed. "Computer, secure room." [Acknolwedged] Matrix opened up the wrench case and spun it around so the Captain could get a good look from that side of his desk. "Sir, I found this attached to the intermix chamber...its a micro-explosive...enough to punch a hole in the warp intermix chamber and destroy the ship." said Matrix. (Reply Saleke) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Ready Room- CO - Captain Ahmed ibn Salid - Day 2 - 2200) Ahmed was reviewing the detailed damage reports that Rixx and had assembled at his request. The Rosenante was doing better than Ahmed had at first thought. The plasma fires were under control and the Environmental subsystems had been repaired in the short passing of time since the battle. Lieutenant Morrow had requested permission to conduct an EVA repair of the breach in Main Engineering. Ahmed had agreed, knowing that that work, above all the others was critical at this time. The structural damage to the ship wasn't so bad that they couldn't work around it. He'd ordered the most heavily damaged areas reinforced with additional Structural integrity fields and damage braces. That would prevent further damage as the structure tried to settle. The life boats on deck nine hadn't been touched yet and neither had the forward tractor emitter, but the emitter was much lower on the priority list at this point. "fifty-six hours" he muttered. "Five dead and sixty-two injured to various degrees." He placed the PADD on the desk in front of him and rotated his chair to face out of the windows of the ready room. The various chunks or planetary debris slid past his window in a graceful silence, alternating between deep shadow and brilliant light. There were five people who would never see the wonders of the universe again, because he had taken it upon himself to conduct this crusade. He knew and understood the risks, but his crew didn't. They would be wondering why their shipmates had died and why another federation Starship had been firing upon them. He could understand their feelings. He was experiencing them himself. Fighting with a desire to exact revenge upon Saleke for the death of those five crew, but also realizing that he would have done the same thing had he been in Saleke's position. In a moment of anger, he hammered his fist into the clear aluminum window of the ready room, sending a sudden shock of pain through his hand. It wasn't like him to second guess himself so frequently. Finally he spoke. "Computer, activate captain's log for recording Encrypt the file with level 10 encryptions authorization Salid Delta-four-six-Tripoli" [Ready to record, Level 10 encryption is confirmed.] "Begin recording." A chirp sounded to indicate the computer's compliance. "Captain's log Stardate 2408.08.02" "Pursuant to my belief that there are elements of Starfleet Admiralty in conspiracy to manufacture a stable Omega Device utilizing the Omega Molecule, I have ordered the Rosenante off her assigned mission of patrolling the Sultani Reach bordering the Cardassian Federation border and diverted us to the Ikev Sector to follow up on intelligence supplied to me by unnamed sources." "While en route, we intercepted a distress signal from the Bardon Alpha Boronite mining facility. This signal claimed that they were under attack by a federation starship claiming to be the Rosenante. As we were still several hours away at high warp, that was not possible." "By the time that we reached the facility, the attacker was gone. We managed to download the security, and sensor logs of the facility, which confirmed that it was a Rosenante Class vessel that attacked the facility and executed all but two of the facilities in habitants. Those two survivors, one uninjured and the other seriously so, were beamed back to the Rosenante for medical treatment and questioning." "We also recovered security footage showing Commander Caskie, Doctor Wyler, Ensign Rosenbauer and several other security elements of the Rosenante's standard crew murdering the facility personnel in a very brutal manner." "This coupled with the intelligence that I received earlier, have convinced me beyond doubt that there is some truth to the allegations of a conspiracy. There is no doubt that we have been placed in this awkward position by design, perhaps because those responsible have come to realize that I am aware of their plans." "The evidence is overwhelming. The seemingly secret construction of another Rosenante class starship posing as us, as well as the doctored footage, although I must say it is incredibly convincing, as well as the untimely arrival of the USS Furious to arrest us within hours of the alert all, point to a confirmation of my suspicions." "It seems that the Mysterious raiding vessel was ordered to recover some highly refined boronite, enough so that several molecules could be manufactured, and then ordered to silence anyone that could reveal any pertinent information." "To say that I was surprised when the Furious showed up captained by Saleke, an old colleague of mine from the 52nd, is an understatement. Either he is knowingly involved, or someone has enough knowledge of him to manipulate him into performing the steps desired to eliminate us as a threat." "The engagement between the Rosenante and the Furious did not go well, in fact, Saleke's superior tactical skills and my reluctance to destroy another federation starship at this point combined to cause a situation in which the Rosenante took a brutal beating before I was able to withdraw her from combat." "I have at this time good reason to believe that the imposter Rosenante is headed for Hexikor, assuming a standard cruising speed, they should arrive in roughly 5 days time. It is my hope that I can catch them there, provided that my repairs are completed and I am able to slip past the Furious, who most likely is waiting to see if I have slipped away or if I am taking refuge inside the asteroid field of this system." "Computer end log and append all recovered sensor and security logs from the Bardon Facility as well as the ship's logs and reports concerning the battle between the Furious and the Rosenante on this Stardate." Records appended.] (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- End Compile ---------------------------------------------------------------------
