He was nearly done and getting ready to check on the doctors themselves, when he was addressed. "I want you to scan the Gorde'an, I want to know how he died and when, down the minute... and please...", the chief medical officer said. He raised a hand and added, "Keep the chat to yourself." The LMH watched as the Dr. Jorsad moved on to the next body. Dutifully he sighed and proceeded to execute the doctor's orders. Activating the sensors on the biobed he was able to collect the data that was requested. Transferring it to a padd, the LMH walked over to Dr. Serranta and handed the padd to her. "Here is the information, Dr. Jorsad requested." the LMH said softly, trying to keep his voice to himself. "I hope everything is in order, Ma'am. Dr. Jorsad seems busy at present. Perhaps you could give this to him? Is there anything I can do to help?" (Reply Serranta, Any) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) (USS Mithrandir, BioLab, Doctor Jorsad Ari - 21.30) Time was passing quickly as the medical team worked away, Jorsad hadn't noticed the clock but for a moment, he stopped, looked up from the computer terminal and then looked over at Doctor Serranta. "Did you see the time? I think we've missed that party that they were going on about earlier, why don't you go, call it night? I want to finish up the blood work.", he said throwing another pair of red surgical gloves into the bin. (Reply from Serranta) "I would have thought they would have reminded us... anyway.", he said heading for the doors and then walked into them as they unhelpfully refused to open, adding a nasty buzz from the computer to reinforce the fact they weren't going to open. Jorsad walked away from the closed doors, he tapped his commbadge, "BioLab One to Engineering.", he said but the commbadge was dead, no channel was opened. "Doctor Serranta, can you see if any other doors want to play nice and let us out?", he said and then he looked up, "Computer, open the doors.", he said and the computer replied with unhelpful buzz of negativity. "Perfect.", he said and then walked over the hologram, "You, hologram, transfer yourself to somewhere helpful and tell someone that we're locked in here.", he said pointing a finger at the Long Term Medical Hologram. (Reply from LMH) (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port - FO Cmdr Olorin Okita - 2145) Olorin sat at the bar waiting for his meal to arrive while taking in the scene around him. He sipped his iced jumja tea slowly, resisting the urge to down it quickly. Iced teas were his favorite drink and he enjoyed them so much, it was what he usually carried with him in his flask. He knew some of the crew thought he carried some kind of synthehol in it or even real alcohol. It was something he had no reason to disabuse them of. There had been a time when that might have been true, but that was long ago. His meal arrived, a bowl of soup with noodles and vegetables, steaming hot. He closed his eyes briefly, inhaling the smell steaming upward. He whispered a saying and began to sample the dish. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the Chief Engineer approaching him. He placed his bowl back down on the counter and nodded in greeting, as he swallowed his last bite. "Good evening, Commander," said the Cardassian. He smiled and added, "What brings you here?" "The same as you, I presume, Lieutenant." Olorin said, returning the smile. "I am surprised they were able to pry you from your beloved engines." (Reply Rejal) "Would you care for something to eat or drink?" Olorin offered, motioning to the barman. (Reply Rejal) "Could I offer you a game of Kotra?" inquired Olorin, unsure if the engineer played the game. (Reply Rejal, Any) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port - aCEO Elith Rejal - 2146) "The same as you, I presume, Lieutenant." Olorin said, returning the smile. "I am surprised they were able to pry you from your beloved engines." "Well, it was either stay there and monitor them mostly alone, or spend my time here. Besides, the computer will notify me if there are any unusual developments." Elith replied. ~When I left Engineering, there were only around two or three other people there...I wonder what possesses them to stay there.~ "Would you care for something to eat or drink?" Olorin offered, motioning to the barman. "No, thank you." Elith showed the commander his kanar. "It's synethol." He sarcastically added, "Of course." ~Exhausted my own supply months ago...what I wouldn't give for one glass of real kanar....~ "Could I offer you a game of Kotra?" inquired Olorin. Elith raised an eyebrow. "You play? I haven't played a game of Kotra since I left the Union. I'd love to take you on, though I'm pretty rusty. Where shall we play, one of the tables over there?" Elith pointed to one of the unoccupied tables near the viewport. (Reply Okita) Before Elith was able to reply, a problem developed on the dance floor. A holo-security guard was dancing with a female crew member, in a way she did not enjoy. "Well, that's not supposed to happen. They were only programmed with a basic personality...." (Reply Okita ifw) "Computer, disable holo-security guard..." Elith peered at the man's uniform, "...Three. Authorization Code Rejal-DP-1999-V." [Access Denied - Insufficient Authorization.] ~Hm.~ "Chief Engineer Override...DS-2345-IE-3123." [Access Denied - Insufficient Authorization.] Elith turned to the Commander, utterly baffled. "There must be something wrong with the system, the CEO's override code should work in this case. Perhaps your authorization would work?" He couldn't help but think to the yacht, he had the feeling that they brought something back with them that was causing this problem. (Reply Okita, any) (Posted by Matt KirK) (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port – BJ Stone – 2149) The lighting had dimmed a little and people were either dancing or gathered at the bar or a few tables that had been strategically placed within Hard2Port. There were four other crew members playing with BJ and Telleenal. They played a few songs that were considered favorites within the Federation plus a couple of requests that were known by the six musicians. BJ grinned to himself as the thought crossed his mind that the vocals might be a little rough but the volume of the music made up for it. They were just getting ready to end their first set and take a break when a problem broke out on the dance floor. It looked like one of the holo-security guards was dancing rather forcefully with one of the female crew members – and she did not seem pleased whatsoever. BJ looked about the room for Lt. Sanok but didn’t see him near the dance floor. Not that Sanok probably wasn't already honing in on the dancing holo-security guard - just that BJ couldn't see him from where he was standing. BJ stopped playing and, thinking quickly, he tapped his commbadge and said “Computer, transfer all holo-security personnel back to the security department for debriefing!” =^= Sorry Sir, you currently lack authorization to give this order – transfer denied=^= BJ was momentarily stunned by the computer’s response. BJ’s head swiveled towards a shout from the floor. “Thomas!” Montro yelled towards the holo security guard. BJ turned to look at Telleenal, who was standing near her keyboard watching the commotion with big brown eyes. All of the musicians had stopped playing as they watched what was going on near the back of the dance floor. BJ grabbed Telleenal’s arm gently to get her attention and said “Telle, I want you to head back to our quarters – ok?” Telleenal looked back at BJ’s face and then nodded her head. She left the keyboard where it was and made her way towards the exit while taking care to avoid coming anywhere near the dance floor. BJ set his guitar down and headed towards Montro to see if there was anything he could do to help. (Reply any) (Posted by Mike Barrett) (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port - OO Crewman Montro - 2150) The commander present, his mission complete, Montro decided check on his boys. Taking out a PADD from his bag, he walked through the crowd seeking the three security holo's that had been temporarily reassigned to Hard2Port for the evening. Thomas, Richard, and Harold seemed to be functioning okay. For all his tinkering, the overriding purpose of the security holo's ensured that they were far less interesting than the medical holo's. In Star Fleet's infinite wisdom they filled their programs with security, tactical, and safety protocols leaving little room for a personality. Montro had hoped that by giving them names they would be more life like. But it was difficult as they each wore a similar blank expression. It wasn't as though they were lacking in their programmed purpose. They simply weren't as personable as Montro wanted. It was possible that Star Fleet did not want to hand weapons to something that might turn against them given too much reign. But that wasn't possible. Not in Montro's mind. Tanned Thomas, Red headed Richard, and Hairy Harold were how Montro kept them apart. He thought about putting large numbers on their back so he could tell them apart more easily, but the captain had put an end to that idea. He monitored them as they interacted with the crew. They were a bit boring, but they managed to wander about with their trays either collecting empty dishes or delivering food along with the rest of the wait staff. ~Hmmmm, I wonder if I did this, if they would be more...~ he thought as he adjusted a string of code. ~That should do it!~ Putting the PADD back in his bag, he wandered the room hoping to see his handiwork in action. He spotted Thomas carrying a tray handing out food. He noticed that Thomas seemed to be smiling. ~Wow, a smile.~ Montro thought, quite pleased with himself. ~I wonder what the others are doing?~ Montro turned and hoped to find the other two quickly, as for him it was a sea of legs and it was difficult in crowds to find people that he wanted. After a bit he decided to get on his hoverboard for higher ground. As he was taking it out of his bag, a loud crash came from the direction that Thomas had been in. There seemed to be a commotion and Montro strained to see what the problem was. From his vantage point, it seemed like Thomas had dumped his tray on someone and was now trying to get someone else to dance with him. Montro was quite excited to see Thomas take an interest in dance, but this was quickly dimmed as he saw Thomas manhandle his partner. It did not seem like his partner was particularly willing either. "Thomas!" Montro shouted, as he struggled to find his PADD before he got shoved out of the way and onto the floor, as the crowd milled about. (Reply Any) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port - OO Crewman Montro - 2155) Montro lay on the floor desperately struggling to get his PADD to call up the controls for the holo-security officers. His eyes were watering as his attention alternated between his PADD and the scene before him. Thomas had knocked out the woman he had been trying to dance with. Not to mention two rescuers who he had thrown off into the crowd. "Play!" Thomas growled, even as two crew members were trying to grapple with him. "I want to dance!" Thomas remained upright, gesturing wildly at the stunned and silent musicians, while seemingly oblivious to his two attackers. Montro scrambled on the PADD trying to shut them down, but something wasn't right. ~Was his clearance blocked? Had his alterations caused this!~ Montro thought in horror. He whined softly as he tried to decide what he would do. ~I have to make this right.~ he thought, as he started to come to his feet. Turning back to the engineer, he noticed a commotion by the dance floor. Without thinking, he placed his dinner back onto the bar, as he scanned the scene. The engineer was trying to deal with the situation, as it seemed to escalate. "There must be something wrong with the system, the CEO's override code should work in this case. Perhaps your authorization would work?" suggested Rejal. Olorin nodded and said, "Computer, shut down the holo security officers in Hard2Port. Authorization Okita Kappa Eight Pi." [Access Denied] "No good. Cut the power to the holographic systems here." Olorin said. "I'll go and see what I can do." (Reply Rejal) As Olorin walked over to the dance floor, he noticed one of the other holo-security guards crying on the floor desperately trying to clean up a mess he had apparently made by dropping the tray of food he had been carrying. Olorin then also noticed another holo security officer arguing with another member of the crew. Tapping his commbadge he said, "Okita to Sanok" (Reply Sanok) "I need a security team in Hard2Port. We have a situation with the holo security officers. See if you can shut it off physically. I was unable to shut them off verbally. Okita out." he said. The first holo security officer, who started this commotion, was being held in place by a couple crewmembers. Their hold however seemed tenuous at best and it almost seemed as though there was an internal conflict of some kind that was giving them this reprieve. ~Too many people~ thought Olorin "Clear the room!" he said loudly, hoping to be heard over the crowd. Then he began to get people around him to head to the door. For the moment the situation seemed in check, but who knew for how long. "Sanok here." =^=I need a security team in Hard2Port. We have a situation with the holo security officers. See if you can shut it off physically. I was unable to shut them off verbally. Okita out.=^= Sanok stared at his meditation candle and shook his head. He and Ben never liked the holo security. They both knew it was only a matter of time before something would go wrong. He blew out the candle and stood up, moving to his computer screen. "Computer, display interior of Hard2Port." The screen came to life and Sanok watched for a moment. Not being an engineer, and not knowing how to physically shut down the holo security, an idea came to him. It would work, but Okita surely wouldn't like it. Since time was short, when he left his quarters for the lounge, he did not change out of his meditation robe. (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port ¬ Ensign Jynea Kreung - 2158) "Note to self, tell Captain Crankypants 'Told you so,'" Jynea muttered. Not that she actually could or would, but it was a nice thought to entertain for a few moments. "Ensign?" someone who was heading towards the door, but still craning towards the disturbance said. "Just a cross pollination in programming, I'd think." Jynea said, catching the eye of one of the flesh and blood servers, "Why don't we get the party down to the cargo bay?" It was probably the only place on the ship with enough space for the crew. Sitting might be cargo boxes, but there were replicators and the acoustics weren't bad for the musicians. With the help of the well trained staff, Jynea got all non-essential personnel, and herself, out of the way and herded towards the cargo bay. While she was darn curious as to what was going on and wished she could help, she was pretty sure all she'd manage to do would be get under foot and in trouble. "Holo-security, holo-marines, holo-medics, they're all bug nut crazy." She said to the closing turbolift door as she watched the last of her herd get into the turbolift. She took a quick look around while she waited for the next car to make sure she hadn't missed any kids or other civilians. As he was out with almost all the other crewmembers he heard that it was some kinda malfunction in the computer system. ~All that and ruining a good party...~ "Why don't we get the party down to the cargo bay?" The morale officer said. Nobody seemed to mind as they followed her to the turbolift. (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port - Lieutenant jg Sanok - 2200) While the new morale officer was leading the evacuation of Hard2Port, Sanok entered the lounge. The holo security officers were standing in a circle, arguing over whose fault everything was. One was crying, while the rest were vehemently stating why it wasn't them. "Computer, deactivate holo security in Hard2Port. Authorization, Sanok alpha omega 7." Nothing happened. He repeated the comand, but the arguing continued. ~Time for Plan B.~ There were two holo emitters in Hard2Port. Spotting one, he raised a phaser he had hidden in his robe. "Computer, disengage phaser safety protocols, authorization. Sanok alpha omega 7." [Phaser safety protocols disengaged] Sanok fired the phaser, striking the emitter. It exploded in a display of sparks. The holo security blinked and shimmered for a second, but the other emitter quickly took over. Sanok turned to the opposite corner of the room and spotted the second one. He raised his phaser, but before he could fire, he was struck in the side by a powerful force. Finding himself lying on the floor, gasping for breath, Sanok saw one of the holo security glaring down at him. Apparently, the holo security wasn't going to let him deactivate them. "I am Lieutenant Sanok, Chief of Security," he said between gasps. "I order you to stand down." The holo security officer continued glaring at him, unmoving. One of the others walked over and picked up the phaser, which had fallen out of Sanok's grasp. Recovering, Sanok cautiously stood up. The holo securiry made no attempt to stop him. Backing away slowly towards the door. "Computer, restore phaser safety protocols. Deactivate the phaser in Hard2Port," said Sanok. There was no response from the computer. "Computer, restore phaser safety protocols. Deactivate the phaser in Hard2Port." No response. The logical thing to do now, was to exit the lounge. The sole light came from a candle that Chrystine's companion carried. Their group's vehicle had broken down nearby and they had walked back to the mansion that they had passed. Chrystine was very excited, having waited months to run this scenario. The gang moved together in the darkness making sure that they did not become separated. "Where do you think everyone is?" she asked her friends. "Maymaymay be we should go back to the van?" suggested Norville. "Don't be such a scaredy cat," V admonished. "I can't help it!" protested Norville. "I can't be brave on an empty stomach." Chrystine heard a soft rumble and a high pitched whine. She reached down and rubbed their dog's head. "Don't worry, we'll find some food here," she said reassuringly. The group continued down the hallway in silence. The only sound was the wind whistling down the corridor. Chrystine shivered in the cold, when she realized the their dog wasn't pressed up against her as he had been previously. She stopped to look down and realized that Norville wasn't with them either. "V, Is..." she started to say, as she looked up to realize V was gone too. She hurried up to her remaining companion and grabbed his hand. "Thank heavens you're here. Where'd everyone go?" she asked. But her companion didn't reply. "Freddie? Where are the others? Fred?" she asked. Her companion stopped and drew to his full height. It was then that Chrystine realized that it wasn't Fred she was standing next to. Nor any of her other companions. Chrystine searched her memory for the proper reaction and then gave a full throated scream. Turning in the darkness away from the light, she ran back down the corridor screaming her companions’ names. ~How the heck does anyone do this?~ she thought, as she ran almost out of breath. She looked over her shoulder and found her pursuer within arms reach. ~Hey that's not how it's supposed to go~ she thought, as she tripped and fell over a large object. "Ow!" she said, as she caught her self and scraped her knee. She sat down on the floor and the hair on the back of her neck started to stand on end. She felt hot breath upon her neck and then heard a low growl. ~Hey the dog's not supposed to do that!~ she thought as she started to scramble to her feet. Her pursuer had disappeared, but now the group's dog, a Great Dane was now advancing toward her. "Easy boy, calm down. It's alright. It's me," Chrystine said trying to put the dog at ease. But it wasn't walking. The dog was easily as large as she was and now Chrystine had had enough. "Computer, end program." she said confidently. "There's gotta be a glitch." [Unable to comply] ~Huh?~ she thought, bewildered. "Computer Arch" She stood by expectantly. But nothing emerged. Her stomach sank. ~I knew I should have gone to the party~ she lamented as she began to run. "Computer Arch!" she screamed now. This time it appeared and she ran out the door. Chrystine paused to catch her breath as she watched the dog come at her. Confident that she was now safe, she was completely startled as the dog left the holodeck. "Oh no!" she said, as she turned on her heels looking for help. "Help!!!" She ran the length of the deck hoping that someone would hear her. But it seemed like everyone was at the party. Panicking she found herself at a dead end with only the door to the Waverider hangar available to her. She slammed her hand against it to get it to open. (USS Mithrandir, BioLab, Doctor Jorsad Ari - 22.00) The computer terminal was beeping, Jorsad didn't look over immediately but then, something on the screen caught his eye, he opened the blinking light and an image appeared. The computer was showing something, faint, it was emanating from one the power packs that had been removed from the knees of the dead patients. The beam was heading directly for the bulkhead. The Cardassian grabbed a tricorder and began to follow the beam... he was crouched and must have made for quite a sight as he moved closer and closer to the bulkhead. "Doctor, could you give me a hand?", he said as he reached the bulkhead. "We need to see what's behind here.", he said and passed he the tricorder. The piece of metal came away quite easily and it made a pop sound as it fell out of its socket. Jorsad placed the panel to one side and then he peered inside the exposed innards of the bulkhead. "What is that?", said the LMH pointing to a blue-black bag of goo attached to the computer system; the bag was oozing from all sides and the smell reminded Jorsad of a Cardassian fish dish. "It's one of the bioneural gel packs, at least, it was... this one looks like it's been infected with something.", he said taking back his tricorder, he began scanning it... (Reply from Serranta, LMH, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port - Senior Pilot Hawke - 2201) Hawke left Hard2Port hastily as soon as the announcement of some security matter was made. He'd been drinking real alcohol during the party, and he'd been given to understand that the Old Man just wouldn't tolerate it. Hawke was a veteran pilot of every small craft in the Starfleet auxiliary-vessel stable. He even had some ideas for modifications or even outright inventions -- but try as he might, he couldn't bring himself to suggest them to either the Spoonhead or the other cranially-over-endowed Engineer. The Hawkes had lost men and women in wars with the Cardassians and with the Klingons. Ezekiel had to respect the uniform, but he didn't have to go out of his way. (USS Mithrandir - Hard2Port - aCEO Lieutenant j.g. Elith Rejal - 2202) Okita tried his access code, to no avail. Elith wasn't surprised in the least. When something managed to be screwed up to this degree, it was rarely fixed simply by uttering a few words. He was already thinking of backup plans when Okita addressed him, "No good. Cut the power to the holographic systems here." Olorin said. "I'll go and see what I can do." "I'll get right on it, sir." Elith began to grab at his belt for his hydrospanner, than frowned as he realized he wasn't wearing his toolbelt. He tapped the commbadge at his waist and said, "Rejal to Enigneering. Cut the power to the holographic Emmit's in Hard2Port." A few seconds passed, and a voice Elith didn't immediately recognize sounded from the badge's tiny speaker. "Walters here, sir. We can't seem to try to deactivate the system remotely, but we'll keep trying. Otherwise, you're going to have to kill the power directly." "Of course. Keep it up, Walters. Rejal out." Elith turned over to the bar, where he knew the emergency maintenance panel was. Luckily, there was no one behind the bar - anyone who would have been had already left - so Elith was able to immediately run into the storage room and take off the cover to the maintenance panel. The console in front of him looked no different than an ordinary panel, except that at random intervals a small section of the screen would flicker and distort whatever it was representing. It was merely a visual effect and had no consequences on the panel itself, however it did show that there was something wrong with the system. Elith began running a diagnostic on the system while trying to find a way to force-shutdown the emitters. It was at this point that Elith heard Sanok enter the room. He tried his own authorization code, which of course didn't work. He then fired his phaser at one emitter, shattering it. Elith winced at the damage, but noticed that the system in front of him changed slightly to compensate, which allowed him to run more commands while the system compensated. He kept a loose eye on Sanok to check his progress, and it was through this that he noticed a holo-security officer slowly approach him, a neutral look on his face. ~Of course. I can never be left alone, can I?~ Elith thought as he continued to enter commands into the console in front of him, completely alert to the movement of the holo-security officer. By the time Sanok left the bar, the holo-officer was close enough for Elith to swiftly move away from the console and take the officer down. It was an extremely quick movement he learned during his Cardassian Navy training, which worked extremely effectively in this case. The officer was prone on the ground, his right arm would have been broken if he was organic. Strangely, though, the officer seemed to feel the pain, and cried out in surprise. ~No time to think. He should be out of the count for now, I need to finish this before any more holo-officers come at me.~ Elith quickly returned to the console and ran a final set of commands that should have disengaged all power to the room except for life-support and emergency lighting. It did exactly that, and as the lights went out Elith noticed the holo-officer disappear as well. He breathed a sigh of relief, then walked out to the bar. There wasn't much signs of a struggle, it appeared that most of the organic officers tried to stay out of the way of the holographic ones. He quickly located Okita, and said to him, "The holo-emitters are now offline, though as you can see I had to deactivate the entire room's power to do it, sir. I recommend we take the entire ship's holographic system offline so Engineering can run a full diagnostic and see just what the Hell happened here. It should be easier for the shipwide deactivation, it seems that the anomaly was focused in this room, of all places." ~Must be because these are the only places on the ship where a set of holo-officers were generated.~ "Anything else you would have me do, sir? I'm afraid we'll have to postpone our Kotar game until after this little crisis is finished. I'm going to want to head up the investigation in Engineering when we're done here." (Reply Okita, any) (Posted by Matt Kirk) (USS Mithrandir – Waverider Hangar - Senior Pilot Hawke - 2205) From Hard2Port, the Senior Pilot went to Deck 04, where the Waverider Atmospheric Vehicle was berthed. He considered the Waverider his craft and had unofficially christened it "Lucida Wenden", after his married sister. It was here in the Lucida's bay that Hawke had hidden his private still. Every ship and installation he had ever served on had one -- whether it had been his or someone else's. It had even been a tradition in his old squadron during the days of the so-called Federation Civil War to maintain a still and to keep moving it from time to time. Top Brass sorts didn't care for having these things in full view of visiting dignitaries... So, for Hawke, the tradition lived on. And now, with a security issue cropping up, it seemed the proper time to move the device again. The Senior Pilot broke the instrumentation down into its component parts and would hide them, for the time being, separately in various locations. The larger parts, the ones that'd be harder to hide, he could simply destroy or convert into raw materials. The beauty of a gadget this simple was that it didn't require an Engineer or any fancy implements. Lost or broken pieces could easily be refabricated. "Said thing is," Hawke said aloud, thinking himself safely alone as he worked, "Ole Starch Arch could probably use a good belt or two..." (Reply Hawke, Any) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) (USS Mithrandir - Deck Four, Waverider Hangar - Senior Pilot Hawke - 2216) The doors slid open suddenly and Hawke dropped a piece or two of his still to the deck. He whirled, as well as he could under the influence of real alcohol (rather than the innocuous synthehol). He noticed Chrystine and breathed a slight sigh of relief. At least it wasn't Starch Arch or anyone from Security. He slid the pieces under the "Lucida Wenden" with his foot and he wiped a tear from his eye with one finger. Lucida, Hawke's sister, had died in the civil war. And Ezekiel had had enough to drink at the party to let himself finally miss her. "Hello?" Chrystine said, hesitantly. Then there was a loud barking at the door. "One'a them pets some folks have got aboard get loose, Sweetie?" Hawke drawled. The Senior Pilot fumbled at his hip for a moment with his right hand then realized he hadn't worn a sidearm in years. (Reply Any) (posted by Frank)
