NRPG: So it seems that we are continuing to play with time in so far as trying to fit a bunch of interactions in a teeny tiny space. Please note any time changes, especially on Day 21. I believe the science department may need to check for temporal anomalies in the Kitty Hawk's Sickbay for what's going on. Or perhaps this might be the solution: Headquarters: STDF, Star Fleet Defense Force. Project: Annointed One. Process: Miniaturization. Authority: Top Secret, highest clearance. Team: Caladryll Sevant , Commander. Eva Straton, master of mysterious powers. Josh Caskie, doctor/biologist. Lorimar, scientist/inventor, builder of the Boudicca. Mission: In their miniaturized form, combat the unseen, unsuspected enemies of freedom, cause they're sneaky. Time Limit: 12 hours. Will they make it in time, stay tuned and see. "Lieutenant Donald Johnson reporting for duty!" Archibald regarded the officer with a stare. "Reporting for duty ..... and?" (reply Donald) With a shake of his head Archibald took the officer's PADD. He glanced at it and nodded. "Mr. Goran, you have the Bridge. Lieutenant? Follow." The Commander got off the chair and walked over the Ready Room. (USS Boudicca - Bridge - OPS Lt (jg) Donald Johnson - 09:08) "Reporting for duty ..... and?" said the rather stern looking officer before Donald. ~Oops, by the book eh?~ thought Donald a little bemused. "Reporting for duty, Sir!" replied Donald in a text book fashion. The commander shook his head as he took Donald's PADD "Mr. Goran, you have the Bridge. Lieutenant? Follow." ordered the commander, who stood and exited the bridge. ~Oookay~ thought Donald as he complied. (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - Commander Archibald Stakes - 09:09) "Have a seat, Lieutenant." he said with a wave of his arm towards a chair as he sat himself down behind the desk, before he jumped up again. "I nearly forgot. Welcome board, Lieutenant," he said with a smile and his his arm extended for a hand shake. (reply Donald) Then Archibald turned back to his hair, studying the PADD along the way. "we are a bit of an enigma, aren't we?" he said as he lay down the PADD and regarded the officer for a moment. "There seems to be more holes in this personnel file that in an Ementhaler cheese. if I were a simplistic man, Mister Johnson, which I am not, then I would assume that this 'holey' life story was a cover up for some nefarious activities, probably a spying mission. But that would be blatant obvious to all, and therefore least likely to be an actual fact. But it does concern me that someone with an undisclosed background like yours bypasses all restrictions and beams himself on board a ship just as it is leaving a base. Care to explain what happened on the base, Lieutenant?" (Reply Donald) (Reply Donald, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - OPS Lt(jg) Donald Johnson - 09:10) "Have a seat, Lieutenant." said the commander, who began to sit down before suddenly standing back up. "I nearly forgot. Welcome board, Lieutenant," he said with a smile, extending his arm. Donald smiled back warmly, and accepted the commander's arm. "A pleasure to be here, commander," replied Donald as he shook the man's hand. Donald took the indicated seat, while the commander inspected his PADD. After a bit, the commander set the PADD aside and addressed him. Donald listened intently as the commander spoke, trying to formulate a response. "I must say my past is of as much interest to me as it is to you. My amnesia is a serious issue, but one that has to this point not disturbed Star Fleet nor my previous comrades in arms. I assure you that there is nothing mysterious going on as far as I am aware and would be the first to disclose my past, once I am able to recall it." stated Donald as honestly as he could. He had faced similar questions before, after all such things were rare in this day and age, but he had been satisfied that when the time comes for him to remember his past he would and if he never did, there was nothing he could do about it. "As for what happened at the shipyard, it was simply a case of getting there later than had been intended by my pilot. The asteroid field was a little more hazardous than we had imagined and he was unused to navigating such a mine field. Unfortunately I'm not very good at the controls of such things, so all I could do was tend to my cargo as we passed through. Therefore we arrived a bit late to the shipyard and you were already leaving. We had notified the shipyard of our late arrival and I had simply assumed that they had notified you of my arrival. But judging from the view of your nacelles when I arrived, it was clear that I had not been. My pilot's nerves were shot from the inbound trip, so we decided that transporting was the next best thing. I hope I haven't been too much trouble, sir" responded Donald, perhaps a little too longwinded. "I have let her go on Mr. McLaren's recognizance, seeing as we can't return her at this time." He continued. "The impact on their civilization will be impossible to determine, until that planet reappears in our universe." "If John Linskens is correct, that won't be until way beyond our lifetimes," Susan pointed out. "If indeed it returns at all. He has a theory that once all the particles that belonged to it returned and the ones belonging to our universe were removed, it would remain in its own universe and not return to ours at all. Whether Arania belongs to ours or to its, I have no idea, nor whether all the particles from ours were removed." She smiled wryly. "I'm not a scientist and I don't pretend to understand everything he referred to but basically, as I understood it, the society on that planet did not really exist in the way we perceived it. We perceived it according to the rules of our universe, but its own rules were completely different. The term 'civilisation' as we know it may have no meaning in that universe. In short, Sir, we have no way of knowing how Arania's absence will affect things there or even IF it will affect things there." (reply Sevant iyw) She looked down for a moment then back at Sevant. "One other thing I have to report now, Sir. Three members of the away team died on the planet. I'm sure you know already, but they were two marines, PFC Edward Stewart and Lance-Corporal Gary Collinson. Also the AOPS, Ensign Skeel Moctatso. I'm sorry, Sir. I believe Stewart and Collinson were married with young children. Moctatso's nearest relations were his parents," she added. The rest of her thoughts she kept to herself for now. They would wait until she made her full report. (reply by Sevant, any) (posted by Liz) (USS Kitty Hawk- Personal Quarters- Arania - 0312) "So what are they?" Arania asked, curious about her selections of food. Matthew glanced at the PADD. "Acturian Eggs and Fried Bolar, with Wogot flat bread and Nimik jelly… And Andorian Bas'nath Steak with Roasted Blue Tubers and Binag Mash." he said reading. With a chuckle, Arania went to sit down at the table. "They sound delicious, I can't wait to eat. What will you be having, beloved?" Arania adored eggs, where she came from they were food for the rich, like the birds they came from and the poorer people could only eat them on special God feast days, and the bread sounded interesting, perhaps it would taste different to what she was used too, it certainly looked different. Matthew decided he'd try them too and he went to the machine in the wall and asked for the food that magically appeared and again Arania felt that thrilling amazement. ~This truly is a wondrous place!~ Matthew brought the four plates and the smaller sides to the table and then got them some wine to drink with their meal. "You eat well here," Arania observed as she picked up her glass and drank some of the wine. "This is excellent and it isn't watered down either. You are very rich people! We always drink ale or water and when we celebrate the God feast days, we are some times permitted to drink wine, but it is always half wine, half water, and the wine is of the poorest quality." Her eyes goggled, she couldn't believe how much food was adorning the table. There was enough to feed six or more, and she was beginning to feel a little guilty at having asked for so much, had she realized just how much there would be she'd have only asked for one selection. Even then she wasn't sure she could eat it all. "Well here's to many more meals to come and to finding someone special." he said raising his glass of wine. Arania beamed at him, pleased by his words, raising her wine glass too. "The Goddess be praised. To many meals and our love." She then drank all the wine in the glass and offered up the short version of the blessing for the abundance that was before them, before tucking into the eggs with hungry enthusiasm. As Caskie sat down in the CMO's office she looked up at Jahlen. "Tell me doctor would you prefer to take over the Beta shift. You would be within your rights to do so and either Dr Heyes or the EMH could take over the Gamma shift. You do not have to make your mind up right away, just let me know sometime soon please," With a smile of thanks Jahlen replied that it was nice to have a choice and she would certainly consider it, and then continued on with business. "Colonel Straton has had a comfortable night, we've kept her sedated and her - boyfriend is it?.. has been there with her all night. Other than that, once the away team was examined and some alterations done, everything was routine apart from frequent checks on the Colonel and her drug administration prn. The last dose of telepathy suppressant was given an hour ago and she was still sleeping soundly." Just then Dr. Caskie's commbadge chirped and the voice of Nurse Fisher was heard, informing her that Colonel Straton had just regained consciousness and that Counsellor Marsh had just gone in there. Josh looked up at Jahlen and rolled her eyes. "No rest for the wicked obviously. If you will excuse me... I'll speak to you later." Picking up her personal medkit she left the office. Remaining behind to just enjoy her drink before turning in for some sleep, Jahlen soon heard some shouting and swearing coming from the isolation room. ~Good heavens! She's a Colonel? She sounds more like a low ranking marine.~ Every word could be distinctly heard as the woman ranted and raved. Jahlen got up and returned to main sickbay where she prepared a hypospray of sedative and handed it to Nurse Fisher. "Take this in and let Dr. Caskie know it's prepared should she want to use it." She told Fisher, "as for me, I'm heading for my quarters for some breakfast and sleep." She waved farewell to the staff and headed out the door, thinking seriously about working Beta shift in future. Gamma shift was fine, usually not much happened, it was quiet and she normally got plenty of studying and reading done, but she thought it might be better to have a more normal work shift because she really couldn't sleep well during the day hours. (Reply Fisher, any) (Posted by Sal) (USS Kitty Hawk, Sickbay, Isolation Ward, MCO Lt Colonel Eva Straton, 0909) "Thank you Sasha," Eva said calmly, looking up at Sasha and winking, a small smile crossing her face. "At least someone is willing to be a little honest with me." She then listen, a small smile still on her face, as both Caskie and Marsh tried first a guilt trip and then threats to coerce her into behaving. She chuckled. ~I guess he didn't read my psychogram too closely if he thinks either tactic is going to work on me.~ "It's alright Sash," She then said, ignoring the doctor and counselor for a moment. "I'll be alright. I think I can endure the Counselors thumb screws and rubber hoses." She then turned her attention to Caskie. "I look forward to a nice *long* stay Doctor. I kind of like the idea of having a whole department waiting on me hand and foot. Maybe you will come back and spoon feed me supper, tuck me, and tell me a good night story later? We can bond and talk girl talk. It will be so much fun, don't you think?" She said, a huge smile on her face, shaking with mock excitement, her tone sarcastic. "Now best take Sasha an run along. I'm sure you've got more victims to torture. I'll be here when your ready for round two." (Reply Caskie or Sasha if either want) She then waited till everyone had left, leaving her alone with the counselor. She looked at him silently, still grinning slightly, for several minuets. Finally, she closed her eyes and slowed her breathing and heart rate, using bio-control to compartmentalize what pain she was feeling and lock it away. The drugs made it more difficult but not impossible. She began using biofeedback to speed up her body filtering out whatever drug they had injected her with. She then opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling, studying the layout of the room carefully. ~Older ship, smaller than the Boudicca, meaning a smaller crew.~ "As for your questions Counselor," She finally said, still looking at the ceiling and the lay out of the room. "No, no, and nothing. Frankly, I feel perfectly fine albeit a little confused, but I'd hardly call that a crime. Last thing I remember is sending the distress call after my shuttle was hit by a series of gravimetric waves of unknown origin. Then I am here, strapped to a table so drugged to the gills that I can barely feel the presence of the guards outside. If Sasha hadn't been here when I woke up, you and I would *not* be talking." She turned her attention back to the Counselor, her smile gone and her tone deadly serious. "I'd of assumed, rightly or wrongly, that I'd fallen into enemy hands. A ship loyal to Doenitz. I'd either have killed myself or forced you to kill me or be killed. I don't know you, and I do NOT trust you. With this drug induced haze I can not be certain that you genuinely have my best interests at heart. You've done nothing but try guilt trips and threats to coerce me into behaving. Your mistake. You've done nothing to earn my trust, and a Star Fleet uniform doesn't exactly mean what it once did, so you will excuse me if I have my doubts about yours, or Doctor Caskie's, sincerity." (Reply Marsh, Caskie, Sasha, Any) (posted by Wes) (USS Kitty Hawk - Sickbay, Isolation Ward - TAC/SC/2O Lt. Cmdr. Aleksander Stolev - Day 21 - 0910) "We're on the USS Kitty Hawk." Stolev said. "It's a temporary ship for our use while the Boudicca is undergoing repairs. We had quite a battle with a Doenitz ship and a Ferengi while you were gone. Anyway, we received your distress call, and were given this ship to mount a rescue." Sasha then glanced at Marsh, who shook his head to indicate that he should stop there; Caskie waved a hand to indicate the same. "Thank you Sir, but perhaps the Counselor and I should decide on what the Colonel needs to know at present if you don't mind," she said. "Thank you Sasha," Eva said calmly, looking up at Sasha and winking, a small smile crossing her face. "At least someone is willing to be a little honest with me." "I don't think I would have wanted to go as far as that, Commander." Oggie went on from there. "But the main thing is *We* are here, and that is because your crew members brought you here. You were rescued. Now one of the people who rescued you is lying in the little hall opposite this room fighting for his very life, dying because of you. Now shut up and lay back. If not for anything than so that he can die in peace. As for you, you are in a medical facility and Ensign Caskie is in charge of you and your healing. There is really no need for this childish behaviour, Colonel, so I suggest you can it." Oggie turned round. "Doctor, I think it is best that you leave. And please take Stolev with you, I'll call him and you when we have quieted down a bit. Obviously it has all been a bit too much for her." Opening the door to the main Sickbay Josh looked pointedly at the door and back at Sasha again. Her meaning obvious. "It's alright Sasha," Eva said. "I'll be alright. I think I can endure the Counselor's thumb screws and rubber hoses." She then turned her attention to Caskie. "I look forward to a nice *long* stay Doctor. Sasha allowed himself a small smile at this; clearly Eva was back to herself again, which would likely prove unpleasant for anyone trying to tell her what to do or control her in any way. He did not envy Marsh or Caskie their tasks, though he recognized their necessity as being essential to shipboard security. Obediently he walked out of the room with Caskie, then waited for the doors to shut behind them. "I'm sorry if you feel I went too far in what I told Eva," he said, "but I think she has a right to know at least that much. I intentionally didn't say anything about what happened on the planet, but I can guarantee you that once she either remembers or is told about it that she will be harder on herself than anyone else will be." A small smile twitched across Josh's mouth as the Colonel spoke to her again although Josh did her best not to let anyone see it. She'd had her share of patients who acted in this manner and she knew that the best way to deal with it was to ignore any outbursts and simply concentrate on the medical aspects. Mind you, Josh being human and not a machine, was wise enough and old enough to know that ignoring sarcasm was sometimes more annoying to the person dishing it out than any answer would be. She smiled at the Colonel, "Yes you will be." She turned slightly towards Oggie, "When you are finished up here I'd appreciate it if you have the time for a quite word please Sir." Turning towards the door she and Sasha left them alone. (USS Kitty Hawk - Sickbay - NPC Nurse Alice Fisher - Day 21 - 0912) Alice had just finished updating another medical report when she saw Dr. Jahlen approaching from the direction of the CMO's office, carrying a hypospray. "Yes, doctor?" she asked. Jahlen handed her the hypospray. "Take this in and let Dr. Caskie know it's prepared should she want to use it," she told Fisher, "as for me, I'm heading for my quarters for some breakfast and sleep." "Sounds good," replied Alice with a rueful smile. "I am heading that way myself as soon as I finish these reports." She watched as Jahlen left, then she stood up with a yawn and made her way over to the isolation ward, where Dr. Caskie and Commander Stolev had just emerged. She handed the hypospray to Caskie. "Dr. Jahlen asked me to give this to you. It's ready for use should you need it." (reply Caskie) "Nurse Fisher, would you in any way be related to Head Nurse Kitty Fisher?" asked Caskie. "I had the privilege of attending some of her lectures on triage management when I was at the Academy." Alice smiled. "Actually yes, she's my aunt. My parents wanted me to go into bioresearch, but Kitty always made nursing sound so important and exciting..." Her sentence trailed off in another yawn, and Alice blushed. "Excuse me. I intentionally didn't say anything about what happened on the planet, but I can guarantee you that once she either remembers or is told about it that she will be harder on herself than anyone else will be." Josh turned to face him and sighed, shaking her head. "I do understand that and I don't have any objection to her been told at least as much as you told her and had Counsellor Marsh not been there I would have had no objections to you telling her since she will have to hear and confront everything that happened eventually. I also know that you will probably have to play a very large part in her recovery, but I do think that the recovery should be at a pace that Counsellor Marsh decides upon and not the Colonel herself." Josh shook her head again, "You're welcome to wait here until they are finished. Can I get someone bring you something?" (Reply Sasha) Just as Josh was about to go back to her office Nurse Fisher caught up with her. "Dr. Jahlen asked me to give this to you. It's ready for use should you need it." Josh checked out the hypospray and chuckled to herself. "Ah, thank you Nurse Fisher. It was kind of Dr Jahlen to consider it but I think I'll wait and speak to Couns Marsh before I make a decision on more medication." As the nurse turned Josh hesitated a moment and then spoke, "Nurse Fisher, would you in any way be related to Head Nurse Kitty Fisher?. I had the privilege of attending some of her lectures on triage management when I was at the Academy." Alice smiled. "Actually yes, she's my aunt. My parents wanted me to go into bioresearch, but Kitty always made nursing sound so important and exciting..." Her sentence trailed off in another yawn, and Alice blushed. "Excuse me. Haven't gotten used to these gamma shifts yet," she said apologetically. Josh laughed again, "Oh Lord, tell me about it. You just get your sleep patterns used to one shift and then someone decides that it might be a good idea to rotate you to another shift and you have to start all over again..... and just as soon as you are used to that shift they decide they've made a mistake and rotate you right back again. Comes with the territory I suppose." (Reply any) (Posted by Marilyn) (USS Kitty Hawk, Sickbay, Isolation Ward, a-COUNS Oggie Marsh, 0914) "As for your questions Counselor," She said after a long silence and a couple of breathing exercises, or perhaps meditation techniques, it was hard to be sure , still looking at the ceiling "No, no, and nothing. You've done nothing to earn my trust, and a Star Fleet uniform doesn't exactly mean what it once did, so you will excuse me if I have my doubts about yours, or Doctor Caskie's, sincerity." Oggie regarded the Betazoid and shrugged. Then he suddenly snapped his right hand fingers. "Oh da**," he said in mock annoyance with himself. "*That*'s where I went wrong. It's the grapes, isn't it? I didn't bring the grapes." Immediately his face went serious again. "Never considered *why* your crew mates thought it best to bind you and pump you full with drugs? Shock, anger, resentment, one phase after another, all created by your subconscious to give yourself time to work out the reason. You might not even know that you are doing it, but it is play-acting non the less. But I can assure you, Eva, that your crew mates had every right to be cautious, not knowing how you would wake up. *And* you were right about the Star Fleet uniform as well. Wearing one doesn't mean that you are behaving like an officer. Like you, for example." Oggie narrowed his eyes, studying the subject. He had come to realise that she would probably keep on throwing up defenses until she had the full picture. "When the away team rescued you from the surface of the planet that you banged into three weeks ago, they had to run for their lives. The reason being that in the three weeks that you had lived there you have managed to become a leader in a rebellion. In fact, you were THE leader. Pillaging, killing, all was done in *your* name. And from some stories that I have heard, you weren't aversed to do a bit of your own either, showing your proficiency with the sword. Mind you, the ones that died by your sword were the lucky ones. The ones, who had their brain fried by you, weren't. Well, I guess that is a matter of opinion, really. Dead is dead, right? Even if they were a medieval society." Having come this far, Oggie decided to give her the last push. He turned away from her and saw the back of Sasha as he was leaning half against the window and half against the wall. "There are some on board who consider you a dangerous criminal. Then there are ones, who bring up one excuse after another in your defense. And then there is one, who can not bare to look the facts straight into the eye and is probably now crying for his mother to make all the bad things go away. He's the one I pity, really. His subconscious is doing his utmost to stem the voices in his head, telling him of all that you have done. But then again, he is in love, so I guess he has a vested interest in it all going away." Oggie turned back. "That reminds me, have you considered giving birth on a penal colony? Because that is very likely the end-result. I don't think I have to tell you how many regulations you have broken? Mind you, legal stuff has never been my forte so I might forget a few anyway. But unless you cut the bu***hit, start talking sense and start accepting my help it is the most likely destination for you and your child. Now, shall we start again? Oh, and at the moment I don't think I have an ounce of trust to spare for you either, so we are even." Oggie fell silent, then walked over to the desk and flicked a switch. "Oggie here," he said to the nurse that answered. "Can you ask Sasha to get Eva some grapes? Thank you." Then he turned back "There you have your precious truth, Eva. Can you handle it?" (reply Eva, nurse, Sasha iyw). (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Kitty Hawk - Sickbay, Outside the Isolation Ward - TAC/SC/2O Lt. Cmdr. She shook her head again, "You're welcome to wait here until they are finished. Can I get someone bring you something?" "No thank you," replied Sasha, "I'll just wait until they're ready for me." As Caskie walked away, chatting with one of the nurses, Sasha leaned against the wall and closed his eyes. He reached out with his mind as Eva had taught him to do, and could feel a dull warmth to signify her presence. The telepathic suppressants they had given her worked both ways, and they prevented him from doing anything more, especially given his own very limited ability. So he simply smiled, imagining what sort of trouble Eva might be causing for the poor counselor. Marsh seemed a decent fellow, and from what little Sasha had seen, perhaps strong-willed enough to at least hold his own. Sasha let himself drift as he waited, and he soon fell fast asleep leaning against the bulkhead. He nodded respectfully to each new one, most of whom he was seeing for the first time. Time for the meeting, or nearly so. He took a vacant chair away from the head of the table, suddenly feeling *very* junior indeed. "Now, we have other new faces among us besides Commander Stakes. Introduce yourselves and your duty station, briefly." Sevant said as he sat back in his chair. Bob glanced furtively left, then right, to see if anyone was ready to speak. ~I am NOT going to be the one to talk out of turn here...~ He stroked his beard with his fingers for a second or two, then stood and faced the Captain, making eye contact with all the seated officers in turn. "Bob Lorimar, Assistant Engineer. Pleased to be aboard the Boudicca." He sat once again, hoping he had struck the appropriate balance of 'brief' the CO was looking for. (Reply Any) (Posted by Russ Gross) (USS Boudicca - Observation Lounge - ACMO Josh Caskie - 2105) Josh had been leaning against one of the walls, since having wanted to check on Linskens before hand, she had only just managed to enter the lounge a minute or so before the Captain's arrival. The first order of business mentioned was the Commander's promotion to Captain and her transfer to the Champlain and the fact that she would be taking the Kitty Hawk back to Geneva. Josh sighed since it had seemed that there might have been a friendship developing between them but supposed that this was the nature of things in Starfleet. A few moments later Josh was surprised, but pleased, to hear that she too would be transferring to the Champlain and stood there wondering who her new CMO would be whilst the rest of the new crew began introducing themselves. That done the Captain asked for status reports and Josh kept her eyes down determined that she wasn't going to be the first to give a report.
