A crack in the commander's stern demeanor appeared as he recalled a fond memory. ~So he's human afterall.~ thought Donald, with an inward grin. "Personally responsible, Lieutenant." said the commander, his face returning to its earlier disposition. Donald nodded. "I hope that we will meet with your approval commander. Are there any situations that you would like me to pay particular attention to?" he asked. Before the commander could reply the comm came to life summoning him to the bridge. (USS Boudicca - Bridge - OPS Lt (jg) Donald Johnson - 0919) The doors slid open to reveal a bridge that was full... of Donald's stuff. ~Oh my....~ thought Donald, in horror. ~What's going...~ His mouth dropped as he surveyed the overflowing bridge, as the commander spoke with a tired looking security officer. The commander looked incredulous when he was informed that this wasn't the entirety of Donald's belongings. He looked back at Donald, who could only nod in confirmation of the officer's statement. Donald tried to make out the identification markings on the crates to see what had been brought to the bridge. He was just making out the markings on a rather large crate, when his eyes opened wide. ~Oh no~ he thought, as he heard soft bleating. Before Donald knew it, Nanny had knocked over the crate containing Thelma and Louise, who promptly made themselves known. ~I should have checked them before I came up.~ he thought, but there just hadn't been time in between getting them onto the transporters at the spacedock and the threat of having them spaced. The security officer moved swiftly to apprehend the fugitive lizards, which of course sent them scurrying in opposite directions. "Oh, don't" warned Donald futilely, as he watched Thelma grapple the commander's leg. The commander sighed once, but never winced, as he slowly said: "Mister ... John..son, next time you will de-claw any ani...mals that you bring on board. And I will want a word with ... you. After you sort out ... this mess. Mister La...roon. Your phaser, please... A low set ... ting will suffice, I would .... say." Before he could issue another warning another officer on the bridge shot Thelma. "Oh, I wouldn't have done that" said Donald mournfully. He watched as Thelma slumped to the floor and promptly released a dozen eggs in various states, causing most of them to break leaving a foul odor to pervade the bridge from the purple and green mixture. Donald hung his head as he hurried to one of the other crates and broke out a subdermal regenerator. "I am so sorry about this Commander" said Donald as he offered to heal the wound. "Thelma's done this a few times to me too, so I keep one myself. I'd clip her claws, but they grow back very quickly. Please be assured I will have them secured in my quarters as soon as possible." (reply Stakes) "Sir would you like me to find some room for these...........crates someplace more fitting? like an airlock Sir?" said the officer who shot Thelma. "What?" I'm sorry Ensign. I may be new here, but rest assured there are better places than airlock for Thelma and Louise here." Said Donald, a little indignantly. (Reply Lorak) Donald stood up and went over to Nanny's crate to let her out and calm her down. Thelma and Louise liked Nanny. It's how the menagerie survived somehow. "I will have them out of your hair in a second, just don't make any sudden moves," he advised the bridge crew, as he brought out Nanny. The goat took everything in stride, as though she owned the bridge. She stepped out of her crate and surveyed her surroundings. "Call her, Nanny" said Donald. The goat tapped its feet and bleated. Slowly Louise crawled over to Nanny. He picked Louise up and then went over to Thelma to pick her up. With both lizards under his arm, he looked at the commander, "if you could assign me quarters, I will get out of your hair. I will return promptly, Commander." (Reply Stakes) "Perhaps you could clean up the eggs, Ensign. I'm sure you know where to put them." said Donald, trying to keep his temper in check so as not to wake Thelma. (Reply Lorak) With both Lizards under arm and Nanny in tow, Donald headed for his quarters. As he passed the security officer who had lugged everything up, he smiled gingerly. "I hate to ask this of you, but can you help bring everything to my quarters? I'll make it worth your while." he said apologetically. (USS Boudicca, Main Engineering, ACEO Jael al-Sharif, 10.35) Hello? Lise called into the depths of main engineering. Hello!? Anyone? She reiterated. She looked at a monitor next to her, and realised that the repair effort was in full force. People were undoubtedly occupied with their various tasks. L Jael, al-Sharif reporting in... her voice trailed off as someone approached her. (Reply someone... Is this bob? I dunno...) (Posted by Kat) (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering - ACEO Lorimar -1036) Bob Lorimar had buried himself in the repair efforts. As he and Commander Zzt had discussed, Bob was focused on impulse power systems and the power distribution network. There was certainly more than enough work for everyone, and both the ships' engineers and the repair gangs on loan from the mobile shipyard had been going nearly non-stop for several days. At the moment he was working in an access crawl space *under* the removable deck plates in main engineering. He was just finishing up some adjustment to the impulse engine control circuits when he heard a faint voice from above. "Hello?" Bob stopped working in order to determine the source of the voice. "Hello!? Anyone?" ~Definately above me. Maybe an engineer? Let's go see...~ He popped his head out from under the deck and peered in the direction of the voice. Seeing a new face, he levered himself up and dusted off his work jumpsuit a bit before approaching. L Jael, al-Sharif reporting in... Lorimar smiled broadly and extended his hand as he approached. "Bob Lorimar, assistant engineer. Putting this mess back togeth-" Bob stopped in mid-sentence as he caught a glimpse of the new officers' rank pip. A full grade ensign, senior to him. ~Now she is certainly senior... but let me think. If the Commander didn't give her orders to relieve me... let me see what she has to say first...~ He quickly brought himself to attention. "My apologies, sir. Ensign(jg) Robert Lorimar. Welcome aboard." (reply Jael) He gestured toward the Master Systems Monitor and spoke quickly and quietly. "Ye can see we have quite a lot done, but there is quite a lot to go yet. All the primary systems are online, we are working on secondary and a handful of auxillary systems now. Are there any questions I might answer for you sir?" Bob glanced expectantly at her... (reply Jael, any) (Posted by Russ) (USS Boudicca, Main Engineering, ACEO Jael al-Sharif, 10:37) Lise watched as an engineer came towards her. Definitely in a work jumpsuit, she knew he had previously been in the throws of repairing the ship. Bob Lorimar, assistant engineer. Putting this mess back togeth-... My apologies, sir. Ensign (jg) Robert Lorimar. Welcome aboard. Jael s head nodded slightly. Mr. Lorimar, a pleasure to meet you. Let s address this straight off, I hate being called Sir. So please, Jael works fine, Ensign al-Sharif works fine, ensign, hey you... Or any other list of words will most likely elicit my attention, but the Starfleet SIR is not something to which I am at all inclined. Other than that, thank you for the intro. What s happening aboard? The aCEO gestured to the systems monitor and described the status displayed before them: Ye can see we have quite a lot done, but there is quite a lot to go yet. All the primary systems are online, we are working on secondary and a handful of auxiliary systems now. Are there any questions I might answer for you sir? Lise cringed a little unexpectedly at the term again. However, she realised that the being in Starfleet had ingrained the utilisation of sir as if it were a gender-neutral term: something with which Lise most definitely did not agree. Jael or Ensign al-Sharif Lise reminded him gently, and in doing so, also reminded herself of who she was supposed to be. And yes, I would like to know what I can do to help out. What s the plan? She exclaimed, mistakenly interpreting the past tense used to describe Linskins, as an indication that he had died. "He can't be! I have been playing the Holy Song of Healing, he should have been getting a little better with every rendering of the song." Jerral looked at the now weeping woman, "Whoa hold it, who said anything about dead? Deep frozen is far from dead...Well not that far, but far enough," Jerral said looking at James for some help, receiving only a look that told him he was getting himself out of his own trouble. "I'm sure Ensign Liskins is still very much alive, at least I haven t seen them roll a body out of there." Jerral said not sure if he was getting himself into more trouble or less. (Reply Ariana) (Posted by Patrick D.) (USS Kitty Hawk - Sickbay - Arania - 2035) "Whoa hold it, who said anything about dead? "I'm sure Ensign Liskins is still very much alive, at least I haven't seen them roll a body out of there." His words eased her upset a little and she stopped sobbing and stared at him in astonishment. Why would he talk about John as if he was gone then? "Marak-el ekhum! (Motherless idiot). You should think more before opening your mouth. Words are oft bladed!" Arania growled at him and brushed past to get into the intensive care room that John was in. (Reply Jerral iyw) Once inside the small room she paused, eyes closed and drew in several deep breaths to calm herself and clear her mind of the hostility she felt towards the man outside, it wouldn't do for John to sense that she was now angry, and it certainly would carry into her music and have an adverse effect on the healing attributes of it. (Reply Jerral iyw, any) (Posted by Sal) (USS Boudicca, Observation Lounge, MCO, Lt. Colonel Eva Straton, 2058) Eva had been watching as the various officers arrived for the meeting. There were many faces she did not recognize. ~That's what happens when you are away from the ship for over a month.~ She reminded herself with a sigh, fighting to keep the guilt and shame she was feeling at bay. Then Rivers walked into the room. Eva blinked noticing the glare Rivers threw her way. Eva watched, spell bound, as Rivers marched across the room as far away from Eva as possible, her hand on her phaser. Eva met Rivers glare with an expression of guilt, shame, and pain. For a few heart beats, she held Rivers glare then looked away, bowing her head and seeming to turn her attention back to the PADD in her hands, the emotions churning inside her threatening to break through. ~Another person who's trust in me is gone forever, and I can't really blame her.~ Eva thought, her eyes closed as she fought back the tears that were building. ~I shouldn't have come here. This was a terrible mistake.~ She wanted desperately to apologize for anything that she might have done to Rivers personally and for the loss of life and everything else, but this was neither the time or place. She silently started to recite a calming mantra in her head, trying to get her emotions under control, while tightening her mental shields even further. She kept her head low, studying her PADD absently, even as Sevant called the meeting to order. She didn't look up as Sevant explained what was going on and that several officers, Spider and Rivers among them, would be leaving the ship. Eva closed her eyes and sighed. ~Spider probably hates me now too. They all probably hate me, and with good reason and now I'll never even get a chance to apologize.~ She didn't look up from her PADD as the new officers introduced themselves, too caught up in trying to control her feelings of guilt and shame. ~They should have just killed me.~ She thought not for the first time, but then her hand went to her belly and the small baby bump there and she was glad that they hadn't and felt guilty for that. Then Sevant called for a departmental status report. Eva kept her head down and waited until a few others had given there report. She was forced to move to the side and look up briefly as the giant fur ball, Zzt reached across the table to scoop up a large number of the cookies one of the new crew members had brought. Eva did her best to ignore both Zzt and the cookies. "The marines are combat ready as always," She said with a strong voice but not looking up or meeting anyone's gaze. She was keenly aware of Sasha's presence in the room, but refused to even look at him. ~He is probably mad at me as well, and again I can't blame him. But what if he hates me now? What will I do?~ She had blocked him out since the incident in sickbay almost two days ago, too afraid of what she would find. She hadn't been able to even bring herself to look at him when he had visited, too ashamed of what had happened on the planet. Finally, the meeting was adjured and Eva quickly rose and rushed from the room. Outside, the two orderlies that were her constant companions since she had left sickbay stepped forward on either side of her. She didn't even bother to look at them as she moved quickly for the turbolift and the solitude her quarters. (Reply Any) (Posted by Wes) (USS Boudicca, Just outside the Observation Lounge, ACEO Jael al-Sharif, 20.59.05) Lise hung outside the Observation Lounge a moment and followed Sevant into the Observation Lounge at a distance that indicated that she was far enough behind, and yet still more or less on time. Arriving early for meetings was something Lise did as habit, and something she did not permit Jael to do. The beginning of a meeting, the discussion, the quasi-social moment was not something that Lise could afford, especially in the view of as many officers with whom she had previously served. Such moments evoqued such fear within Lise and manifested a certain difficulty to contain it within her empathic shields (as surely there were individuals aboard capable of perceiving the somewhat juxtaposing exterior of Jael from the deeply principled and honoured Lise). Deep in thought, the moment Lise had entered the observation lounge, she began to sniff as an unusual aroma registered in her brain. Cookies? ~This should be... Interesting...~ Trying not to make eye contact or look at anything that was already occurring in the meeting, Lise slipped into her seat the very second that Sevant proclaimed I call this meeting to order He explained that Susan would be transferring and taking command of the USS Champlain. Lise, or rather Jael s head nodded and Lise permitted herself a furtive glance in Susan s direction and an appreciative nod. For not only did she wish her friend well and knew that under such circumstances she would be unable to speak with her, but also, to not look in her direction under such a situation would be considered as abnormal. Lise had slowly been discovering that within certain situations NOT doing something as opposed to doing something would prove more suspicious than not. Sevant continued, and explained that there was a great deal of repair work that needed to be effectuated on the Kitty Hawk. Jael s head nodded. ~Some things never change~ The new officers introduced themselves. Bob Lorimar, Assistant Engineer. Pleased to be aboard the Boudicca. Lise listened to the others who introduced themselves as well. The young Chief of Operations sent out a personal advertisement to join anyone for a meal, as it was the most important time of the day. At this, Jael smiled. Meals, were after all social, and as such, something that she had been continually avoiding. Lise fought the smile that wanted to spread to Jael s face. She remembered herself being in that exact same place, in fact, almost in that exact same chair when she had done her first duty tour on the USS Boudicca under Captain Sam Kaneshiro and that had lead her to discover the joys of both engineering and the Boudicca. And, of course, there had been Yori. What a different phase in her life that had been. Lise looked around, at the rest of the officers in this familiar and yet now strange location. Finally, Sevant concluded the meeting. I realise that we ve only been on board for a short time, but you ve all had time to at least check in. What s our intermediate Status? Lise listened attentively as Commander Stakes gave an accurate assessment of the repairs report. Furthermore, he continued: If I may, I have prepared a listing of crew rotations and crew changes to account for the hard work that those who were on this vessel have performed. You will all see them on your monitors in front of you. Lise watched the monitor before her light up as if it were self possessed. She quickly scanned the rotations schedule approvingly, not that it was up to her to approve or disapprove, but she could see how this FO knew his stuff, and was not afraid to act on it. For those who have seen them already, you will notice that all crew who have been participating in the retrieval of Lieutenant Colonel Straton as part of the away team are not listed. This is because I deem that they did not receive sufficient downtime after the mission. Hence they will get it now. They are as of the end of this meeting off duty for 48 hours. No exceptions allowed. Afterwards I will hold meetings with all department heads to discuss the workings of their departments. Again, no exceptions allowed. Lise contained a sigh of relief. She was glad to avoid the prospect of meeting with Stakes one-on-one again. She had a funny feeling that he was going to be a complexity in her life as Jael that she was not going to enjoy. She heard someone inhale ever so irregularly, just a few seats down from her. However, the feelings emanating from that individual were clear. Frustration. Jael looked quickly over in McLaren s direction, so as not to make it known that she was actually looking over at him. She appreciated the situation he was in. She appreciated that he had just effectively been placed on leave for 48 hours, and while Lise had previously worked with McLaren, she knew him to be a good engineer and as such, one who carried the responsibility of his position to heart. Going on leave was the last thing any good CEO would want to do with the state of repairs as they were. Jael nodded in McLaren s direction. She had deliberately been avoiding him, since they had served together for such a long period of time. She felt that his ability to discover her actual identity was within the realm of possibility and so, proceeded with care and caution, which meant as little interaction as possible. At least avoiding him for the next forty-eight hours would be much easier, as their paths would not cross. Lise mentally reviewed the checklist in her head of all the things she needed to do. Repairs, repairs, repairs. With any luck, she d be left to her own devices and wouldn t have to encounter anyone else. However, should the opportunity present itself for her to say goodbye to Susan and wish her well, Lise would welcome it. However, she of all people understood that the risk of searching for that opportunity would be dangerous to them both. As such, Lise would wait patiently, and Susan would know her thoughts and well-wishes for honour were with her. That, need not be spoken. They would part silently, if need be. Lise waited to see how the rest of the meeting unfolded. (Reply any) (Posted by Kat) (USS Boudicca, Observation Lounge, ATT Lt. He bared his fangs in a smile as he nodded his head at Sevant, Rivers, and Stolev. ~It's good to see them again.~ He thought as he as he wiggled his claws at each of them saying 'hi'. "Hi, Captain Servant, Captain Ribbers, and Stinky Breat-" Zzt stopped himself as he realized what he was saying, and shook his head. "Zzt mean Commander Stole-off, sorry. Zzt glad see you gain." He then looked around the room at all the other officers. "Me Zzt, Advanced Theoretical Technologies Officer. During repair, Zzt make upgrades to several Boudicca systems. Tactical Systems been upgraded, including TIHS system. Installed new design plasma injectors and power transfer conduits in warp drive to increase drive efficiency. Due upgrades, ship power distribution system also need upgraded so it handle all new power demands of phaser's and tactical shield upgrades." Zzt paused to lick his fangs. He was feeling a little nervous standing and talking in front of everyone and his claws tittered nervously on the PADD he held in his paws. He took a deep breath before continuing. "Zzt can give more through explanation of upgrades, if want?" He asked looking at Sevant then Stakes. Zzt looked around at the other officers timidly, then suddenly stepped toward the table leaned over to grab a pawful of the little cookies on one of the plates, sending the remaining cookies skittering across the table. He then stepped back and retook his seat on the floor, his toe claws wiggling merrily as he tossed the pawful of cookies into his mouth. (Reply Any who want) (posted by Wes) (USS Boudicca - Observation Lounge- CEO- Lt. Matthew McLaren-- 2120) There was a palpable tension in the air. Matthew could almost taste it. He'd been on the Boudicca for a while and he had seen officers come and go, but he had never seen an officer even remotely like Stakes. The Captain had asked for a status report, but instead of allowing the individual department heads, among which he numbered, answer; Stakes had simply given an answer. The answer was accurate, of course, but it lacked any personal level of conveyance. There were no feelings in his assessment, to him they were cold hard facts. This ship was merely a weigh point in his career perhaps. It would be very unlikely to be his home, as it had been for Matthew or many of the other Officers and crew. "Repairs have progressed better as originally planned. Commander Zzt's team as well as our own engineering officers have performed an exemplary service, Sir." he said quietly. There were a lot of new faces as well. A new chief operations officer and some new engineers. Why had none of them reported to him when he had come aboard? "The ship is almost fully operational but tomorrow we will be complete." The commander droned on. "If I may, I have prepared a listing of crew rotations and crew changes to account for the hard work that those who were on board this vessel have performed. You will all see them on your monitors in front of you." Matthew reviewed his monitor. The Commander was obviously unfamiliar with some of his engineering crew. He had shifted a couple of the personnel's shifts. People who required certain sleep cycles to function coherently. It was a detail that you came to know when you were the chief engineer and the people were members of your staff. "For those who have seen them already, you will notice that all crew who have been participating in the retrieval of Lieutenant Colonel Straton as part of the away team are not listed. No exceptions allowed. Afterwards I will hold meetings with all department heads to discuss the workings of their departments. Again, no exceptions allowed." Matthew pursed his lips. There was something not right here. After an away mission, people weren't forced to take R&R. It wasn't adding up. What had he missed while he was on the planet and why in God's name wasn't Susan saying anything about it? And what was this bunk about no exceptions allowed.? He was the Chief Engineer, responsible for the functioning of every system on this ship. Who the HELL does this guy think he is, forcing Matthew to take a break when there were things that needed to be repaired? The Chief Engineer took a deep breath, held it and let it out. He knew the answer, of course, everyone did. He was the new First Officer. (reply none) (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Observation Lounge-AOPS Lt. The first PADD contained power distribution information including all scheduled power outages, reroutes and requests from various departments for the next 72 hours. The Second PADD contained a listing off all ship's stores, from the smallest component to the largest Generators. The Third was simply there as a device for him to record his notes about the meeting. Thus far it contained only 1 action item. 1. Check in with new Chief Ops Officer. Yalix had just come aboard a short while before the meeting. He had been assisting the Kitty Hawk's crew in their repair efforts. He had not been informed that there had been a new Chief of Operations assigned to the Boudiccia in his absence. Therefore he had failed to check in with his new department head. There was surprisingly little information available about the human named Donald Johnson, that had taken the position. For someone like Tollian who did not care for mysteries, it was disturbing. The Efrosian listened to the new first officer as he advised the recently returned away team members that they were to be placed on mandatory 48 hours of shore leave. He sat completely still listening with great interest to every word that the Commander spoke. ~Finally a first officer who understands the true meaning of efficiency and timeliness!~ he thought. ~Perhaps now, Counselor Marsh will be asked to conform to the physical requirements serving in Starfleet!~ Tollian allowed himself a small smile as the meeting continued. ~I believe that I will enjoy serving under Commander Stakes.~ he thought as the meeting continued. Continuing his survey of the mix of old and new people, Archibald felt that the meeting was coming to an end. He pushed himself off the wall. Also please inform Miss Arania of the several possibilities that she can opt for like political asylum, economical immigration, application for Federation citizenship or simple refugee status. Of course if she goes for the last one, she will have no right to be on any Federation vessel for any prolonged period. Also I understand that there may be plans for forming a civil partnership, which would increase her chances of acceptance into the Federation. However, that will only happen if I receive a document signed by both parties and countersigned by witnesses, stating of the intention and the date of commencement of the civil partnership, as long as that date is not further away from the sign date on the document as one hundred and eighty two days. Of course I will have to receive the document together with the filled in form for it to be taken into consideration. Lastly, if Miss Arania does wish to opt for citizenship, please discuss with her which Federation star system she wishes to use as her planet of occupation. We will of course have to request permission from the government of that star system to allow her planetary citizen status but that is normally a simple formality. Mind you, if she wishes to become a Vulcan citizen, there may be some tests involved." McLaren nodded. There was a lot of paperwork to go through and Matthew had very little time. "Yes, sir. Thank you Commander. I will see to it that the documents are provided in proper form to you within the 72 hour deadline." Matthew replied. "Does the Commander have any further need of me at this time, sir?" (reply Stakes) (posted by Daniel Greene) NRPG: So he's giving out stars now? I mean what's next free trips to Hawaii?
