There are so many running around, it's like a ship convention. Their continuing mission to keep everyone going for as long as possible and longer than anyone really has any right to be running. Like this intro, isn't this a bit excessive? I mean really, the story's long enough without this thing...... I mean write all wrongs and woe to the wicked? Ahem. Here's today's compile index. Large amounts of methane and hydrogen sulfide are a definite health risk, especially when in an enclosed environment. Take it into consideration, Commander." Zzt frowned in confusion at the Commanders words. ~He must not understand how the air recycling system works on a Star Ship.~ Zzt thought as he tried to make some sense of what the Commander words. "Sir," Zzt said, respectfully. "That not really issue. See ship life support system has included a very through air filtration system." Zzt then launched into a very detailed, yet respectful, explanation of how the ships air recycling system worked including how particulate matter and harmful gasses were removed and O2 levels were replenished using photosynthetic bioprocessing. Zzt quickly started to get carried away, as he warmed up to his topic, and soon expanded his explanation to include the entire life support system. His paws moved as he tried to illustrate the various components of the life support system and how they interacted and worked as a whole to maintain a fully healthy and breathable atmosphere for the ships crew. Through the entire explanation Zzt's tone remained one of utmost respect for the Commander and his position. He lifted his snout into the air and sniffed several time. He then noticed someone step up next to him. "Commander Zzt? Ensign(jg) Bob Lorimar. I'm newly assigned here, might ah take a wee bit of the load off for you sir? I see the ship is in a bit of a state... how would you like to divvy this up sir?" The young Ensign said. Zzt smiled, baring his fangs as he looked down on the small man. "Boob Learymear," Zzt said with a friendly nod of his head. He leant forward, putting his snout a few inches above the top of the mans head, and sniffed several times taking in the mans scent. "Zzt glad see you. What you specialty? What position you assigned? You bring tools or need new?" Zzt looked the new comer over from head to foot before holding out his massive paw toward the young Ensign in a gesture he's seen many humans make. He must love this guy if he cannae understand me!!~ Lorimar hoped Zzt kept his claws neatly trimmed as he extended his own hand. His hand literally disappeared, swallowed up in the Commander's massive and immensely strong looking paw. "A pleasure sir. To answer your questions, in order: I am a general engineer. Specialization in propulsion/power systems, and also defensive/tactical systems. Ah'm assigned as an Assistant Chief Engineer, which Commander Stakes tells me makes me acting CEO until someone senior reports aboard... so ah'd say we'll be working together tae get this fine lady back in shape." Lorimar smiled before continuing, amazed that he was not more intimidated by Zzt's sheer size and seniority. "As for tools... all my kit was lost or rather misplaced in transit... so I'll need to draw spares from the ship's stores for the time being." (Reply Zzt, if you wish) Lorimar looked around the compartment, shifting his attention from his PADD, to the Master Situation Display, then back to Zzt. "Sir, it seems the engines need a fair bit of attention, so I can start on those right away. I dinnae wish tae bump into your crews... which I should say I dont want to get in the way of repair work already being done... so I'd like to coordinate the ship's engineers and your repair gangs from the shipyard if we can sir." "It would create an attracting force that, integrated with the distance between the two object, will result in an arrival at planetside in ... one hundred and seventy hours. That is, if we decharge the vessel in forty nine hours. We would require the same carrier signal and the same signal, only this time with a minus eight point three nine six Megaquant peak." Carft looked at the Ensign, a concerned look appeared on his face. “That kind of long isn’t there way to speed it up … sort of,”? Carft replied. “Can’t we increase the attracting force, or something,?” Carft added. (Reply Bellephoron) “I see,” Carft answered. As he took a look at the many calculation the science officer had made. He couldn’t make out all of the difficult calculations but the ones he could looked in order. “Well then let’s get this over with then,” he tapped several buttons on the OPS consol. He was standing by to fire with the deflector dish. “I’ll hail the ship and tell them what we have in store for them,” Carft as he tapped two buttons to prepare to open a channel. “Should we inform the Captain of our progress,?” Carft asked wondering if they were going to run this operation solo or under supervision. The past few months for Lise had been littered with official meetings. What she'd learned, she'd observed. In short, a debriefing of all that she had witnessed in her time aboard the Boudicca. She confided most of the details, but reserved some others for herself. They didn't need to know EVERYTHING, she told herself. Some things were best kept quiet. There were people she owed for that and she would never forget. She looked at herself in the mirror and the alternate face that had been her own for quite some time now, stared back at her. "I don't get it." She said considering the visage before her, "What part of 'let me be myself again' did they not understand?." Her long black hair trailed down around past her shoulders and stopped mid bust. "I hate this hair, I hate these alterations, this just isn't ME" She said, her Klingon temper beginning to flair. She put her hand on her cranial ridges -- or at least, where cranial ridges once stood and she tried to trace them out with her fingers. "Am I going to be stuck like this forever?" Her voice was filled with longing, the longing of wanting to be just herself. Able to reach out to her friends whom she was forced to work beside, day after day, deception after deception. Would they ever forgive her? If they found out? They wouldn't have the chance if they did. She bit her lip and cursed again in Klingon. Almost a year ago, she'd been "rescued" off the floor of a cave where she had been left, beaten almost starving and fearing for her life. However, that rescue had come at a price. She could almost hear LoDona's voice ringing in her head. Lise Arianna, will now be known as Jael and will serve... The rest of the details were really inconsequential. It meant her body had been altered, her record too and she'd been instructed to play the role of a difficult one. That's right, Lise Arianna who had always followed her own spirit, but who had followed the rules -- up until a point, was now made to play the difficult new ensign with an 'attitude problem'. The very ensigns she once took such pride in straightening out. It went against everything she believed in, and she felt herself hypocrite every single day she engaged in this behaviour. And yet, she had no choice. Her "freedom" had come at a price. One that she was now beginning to think too high for anything. LoDona wanted to know this, Jopek wanted to know that. They wouldn't even leave her alone in peace to complete the repairs on the Boudicca, she couldn't even do the duty that Jael was supposed to be doing. She was neither Jael nor Lise and yet both at the same time. Caught in the middle between spy and engineer, and her love in life lay with her duty. One that she could not perform. Perhaps her saving had not been worth it. At least there, in that cave on Qo'noS, she was fighting for something she believed in. Equality and power, women standing alongside men in the realm of Klingon politics -- equally. Somehow, she felt like a sell out. The rage started to bubble in the pit of her stomach. She let out a fierce yowl and then without warning her clenched fist rammed itself straight into the mirror before her. It shattered into pieces and the darkened complexion of who was Jael al-Sharif became scattered about the room instantaneously. [Impact detected in sleeping quarters 2, fire suppression system releasing] With that, a cloud of whiteish slurey flooded the room and Jael. =^= Pilot to Ensign al-Sharif, we've arrived on the Boudicca and I'm reading a malfunction, did the fire suppression system disengage in your sleeping area? =^= "Yes..." Lise responded sheepishly, her uniform now entirely covered in white - she looked somewhat like the ancient Terran mythical creature, the Yeti. =^= Yes? =^= The pilot sounded alarmed. =^= Was there an incident of fire? =^= "No, I just had a mishap with the mirror" Lise stated succinctly. =^= Are you injured? =^= "No.." Arianna replied a little too quickly. =^= We hate to ask this but is it possible that you leave quickly as we're already overdue for our next stop. =^= "Not a problem" Lise stated as she picked up her few belongings from the now snow covered area and headed off the shuttle. Within minutes the shuttle was gone and a white-coated body that was known as Jael al-Sharif stood in the shuttlebay. "You need to report in ASAP" the ops officer indicated. Lise sighed. "Do I even have time to change?" The ops officer looked at the woman before him. While he wished he could grant her the luxury of changing, his orders had been clear. The MINUTE Jael set foot on the ship she was to report to the bridge. "I'm sorry Ma'a" Jael put her hand up to cut him off. It didn't matter whether she was Lise or Jael, Ma'am was something she simply detested. "Ensign will be fine Lieutenant" She addressed the officer before her. "Right... Ensign, I'm sorry but my orders were..." "The second I arrive onboard, I am to report to the bridge. Right?" The Lieutenant nodded. "Got it." With that, Lise strode head high (and covered in fire suppression liquid) out of the shuttlebay and made her way to the bridge. (USS Boudicca, Main Bridge, ACEO Jael al-Sharif, 09.30) Lise strode onto the main bridge and addressed herself to whom she perceived as the highest ranking officer. Matthew McLaren-2236) "Got them!" John shouted out as the small screen showed the results from the bioscanner. "Four... five .... no ... six lifesigns. One Bajoran, one Betazoid, one Trill and three humans! Eastwards! I'm transferring the signals to the transporter for lock on. Can you hover this thing? Our movement makes the locking a bit difficult with the interference from the planet." "I think so," Matthew replied then forced the shuttle to hover, adjusting manually the thruster output to keep the vessel as level as he could. Normally the computer would do that, but with some of the systems not operating, Matthew was forced to manually correct more than he liked. "Okay, we're hovering the best I can manage!" he said when he was satisfied that they were fairly stable. "Locking on! Any preferences?" he shouted to the front, then shaking his head he followed with "Oh, what the heck .. Energising!" Matthew was too busy just trying to maintain lift. He couldn't really take the time to answer, as three stall alarms simultaneously sounded in the cabin. He leveled the shuttlecraft and increased the thrust. One of the RCS thrusters was not operating correctly. There were sparks and smoke as the transporter energized. Matthew couldn't do anything but pray that whomever was being transported aboard made it. "Get off," he heard John hiss, and he knew that they'd gotten someone aboard…hopefully two someones. "Good to see you, Matt, John - who the hell are you?" He heard Susan ask. "Long story Ma'am. I could really use a hand up here Commander." Matthew replied. (reply John, Arania) The transporter sputtered twice more as John managed to pluck some more members of the away team off the surface. A terrible gout of smoke and sparks shot out of the console and Matthew was pretty certain that the transporter was shot. "Got them all! Get out!" John shouted. Susan joined him the front of the shuttle, sitting down in the co-pilot's seat. "We need to locate Major Drizzt and Haggerlsson," she told McLaren. "Do you have them on the sensors?" "No, most of the sensors are offline. We just managed to get them working well enough to use transporters and to keep us from flying into the side of a planet." Matthew replied. "We have to be close." Susan frowned. "We need to take this heading then," she said, bringing up the co-ordinates based on a triangulation of where she and the others had been picked put. "They left us about fifteen minutes ago, they can't be too far off. How are your piloting skills, Matt? would you rather I took the con or operated the scanners?" Matthew glanced at the information and adjusted their heading. "I've got it under control for the moment. But I could definitely use a hand with the sensors, and some assistance if something goes suddenly loopy. Most of the Fly-by-wire systems are off line, so she's got a really fat ass right now commander. And she likes to swing it from side-to-side as she flies." Matthew replied. Susan nodded. "Right. John!" she called back, "How's the transporter? Still operable?" (reply John) Susan frowned suddenly and looked around the shuttle before turning back to Matt. "Where's Skeel?" she asked. Matthew swallowed hard. " He didn't make it ma'am." he replied. "He attacked me and was killed in the struggle. I buried him near the Fang's crash site. Sensors show heavy damage to her, but we're not able to get much else yet.=^= Sevant snapped his eyes open, not only because of the announcement, but because he'd been deep within meditation at the time. He was dressed in his Vulcan meditation robes, loosely wrapped around him, but that didn't stop him from jumping to his feet and immediately making his way out the door. "I'm on my way." He said as the doors shut behind him. They hadn't been able to find the Away Team; their sensors still hadn't been up to the task. They could find life-forms, in plenty, but pin-pointing them had been almost impossible. He stepped into the turbolift and barked, "Bridge". As the lift began moving, he wrapped the open top of his robes around him and tied the sash, so he'd be partially presentable. The doors opened, showing the bridge. He stepped out and looked around, "Status report?" (reply: any on the bridge) Sevant took his seat, "Move us closer, maneuvering thrusters only. Raise them if you can." He tapped a button on the chair, "Bridge to Medical, prepare for casualties. Bridge to engineering, send a team to the shuttle bay to shore up the power systems of the shuttle, just in case. And see if you can't get a transporter lock on them." (reply: ALL) (posted by Trout) (Shuttlecraft Rameses - TAC/SC/2O Lt. Cmdr. Aleksander Stolev - Day 19 - 2300) The inside of the shuttle was a chaotic place as Linskens and McLaren strugged with the transporter system, while Rivers tried to pilot the heavily damaged shuttle up to the outer atmosphere. Realizing there was little he could do to help other than to stay out of the way, Sasha crouched on the floor next to the bench where he had laid Eva, his hand resting lightly on her shoulder. "Tranporter system is working!" shouted Linskens, who proceeded to explain his plan for getting them all off the shuttle and back to the Kitty Hawk. "When do we reach max altitude?" he asked. "We already are," Rivers called from the cockpit. "In that case, I guess we might as well start, seeing that I doubt we will be able to maintain this altitude. Commander, start firing and hovering. I need us to keep our position the same for the marker to work." Sasha's hand tightened on Eva's shoulder as the shuttle began rocking when Rivers fired the phasers. Eventually the shuddering stopped, and Rivers announced that the phasers were out of power. They waited for what seemed like an eternity but was actually only about a minute, before Linskens reported that he had isolated the Kitty Hawk's rough position. Linskens beamed the probe into space, gratefully without any accompanying smoke. "We'll give them a minute or so, to find the probe," he said before the shuttle suddenly lurched sideways. Sasha barely managed to keep Eva from tumbling off the bench. "Sorry," he heard Rivers's voice from the front. "Three of the manoeuvering thrusters just cut out. I'm compensating but I don't know how long I can keep this up." Linskens pulled himself off the deck and back up to the transporter controls, where he instructed the two marines to take their positions for scanning and beaming. Once they had dematerialized, again without any smoke, Caskie and Gilder took position next. As they waited for their patterns to be downloaded into the buffers, Linksens expounded on the ability of a human body to survive in the vacuum of space for a short time. The shuttle lurched again, but not as severely, shortly after the download was finished. "We've lost life support," someone reported. "That's not a problem," Linskens said, "It will give us enough time. Stolev, you and Eva will be next, then Arania and Matthew, then the Commander and Zardek. Be prepared. Commander, when it's your turn, I'll seed things up a little, since between you getting over here and me beaming myself up, nobody will be flying this heap of junk. And I doubt that the auto-pilot will be able to do anything. But I would appreciate it if you tried to activate it anyway." While he had been talking, Caskie and Gilder had dematerialized, only this time, a small puff of smoke issued forth from the cabinet where the power conduit had been patched. Sasha hurriedly picked up Eva's limp body and stepped into the transporter. He put his hand firmly over Eva's nose and mouth, then closed his eyes as tightly as he could just before the tingling sensation of the transporter beam washed over him. (USS Kitty Hawk AOPS Ensign (Jg) Carft Kea - 2302) "Status report?" Sevant asked. Carft gave a quick look at the Captain who had just arrived on the bridge he was dressed in some sort of robe, but that didn’t keep him form doing his job when he suddenly realised that the captain asked for a status report. “From sensor readings we can tell that the shuttle has been damaged severely, they barley have impulse engines … there impulse engines just went off line there running on thrusters only … life support still functioning reading multiple live signs … there is static I can’t make out how many on board are still alive,” Carft answered with quick response as he glanced over his OPS consol. Sevant took his seat, "Move us closer, manoeuvring thrusters only. Raise them if you can." He tapped a button on the chair, "Bridge to Medical, prepare for casualties. Bridge to engineering, send a team to the shuttle bay to shore up the power systems of the shuttle, just in case. And see if you can't get a transporter lock on them." “Yes sir,” Carft answered as he double checked his sensor readings. He tapped several of his buttons and opened a channel. “Hailing frequency’s open,” Carft said concerned as he looked to the view screen hoping for a reply. (Reply All,any) (Posted By : Maarten) (USS Kitty Hawk - Bridge - Capt Sevant - 2303) "Hailing frequency's open," Ensign Kea said. "Kitty Hawk to shuttle Rameses, can you receive?" He waited a few seconds, then said: "Kitty Hawk to shuttle Rameses, Commander Rivers or anyone on the Away Team- can you receive?" Another few seconds passed, "get us close enough for a good scan, now." Sevant said. He sat back down in the chair and folded his hands together. With as beat up as that shuttle was, odds were truly excellent that they were having communications failure. (reply: any) A minute later, the shuttle suddenly opened fire with its phasers. Sevant sat forward again and his brow knit slightly. He turned, "Anything but the worldship on tactical sensors?" "No, Captain." Sevant looked back, his brow still furled. He looked back at the screen and noticed the shuttle was shimmying. IT didn't take a genius to see the shuttle was in trouble and... He suddenly stood, "Beacons. There sensors must be down. Fire phasers across their nose, several bursts, make sure they see it!" A few seconds later, several phaser bursts were shot at a safe distance across the shuttle's bow. Sevant crossed his arms behind himself and walked around the bridge, stopping at each console, as he waited. And then things suddenly started happening at once. The bridge speakers erupted with, =^=Transporter Room One to Captain, we just got a probe-=^= The Chief there was promptly interrupted by Operations, who said "The shuttle is loosing altitude, her thrusters are failing!" And that wasn't all, Sevant noticed as he turned back to the screen. The World Ship had chosen NOW, of all times, to start moving. They didn't even have a chance to open a channel. The ship wouldn't hit the shuttle, but it would come very- very close. And with its great bulk, once it got moving, it wouldn't be turned in time. "Captain, we've got... bodies being beamed into the space to our starboard bow!" Sevant spun on his heel, "Beam them in!" be bellowed just before tapping his badge, "Bridge to shuttlebay, launch the alert shuttle NOW. The shuttle is beaming bodies into open space." The badge beeped, and boards all over the bridge began beeping as people started kicking into over-drive. So many things happening, all at once. And if the transporter room couldn't grab the bodies, which were now up to six floating in free space, then they'd be dead inside twenty seconds. The ready shuttle wouldn't be in place for at least two minutes. "Sickbay, Bridge: You're going to get several people with extended exposure to vacuum and hard radiation within the next two minutes, prepare!" "Captain, the shuttle is falling, all power lost. I can't get any sensor readings, the world ship is to close." Came the call from Operations. Sevant turned and barked, "Status on getting them beamed aboard?" (reply: any, all) (posted by Trout) (USS Kitty Hawk, Transporter Room 1, Transporter Chief Bayer, 2304) Like everyone else on the Kitty, Bayer was on edge. He knew he needed something to lock the transporters onto but that didn't stop him searching various co-ordinates near where they believed the shuttle to be. Eventually he was rewarded with something.. "It looks like they sent a probe out!" he exclaimed to his assistant. "I'd better let the Bridge know." He tapped his commbadge. "Transporter Room One to Captain, we just got a probe." =/\= This is Ensign Percival Bellephoron III. To whom am I speaking?" "Transporter Chief Bayer, Sir." =/\=Ah, well, Transporter Chief Bayer, I believe said probe to be a kind of marker beacon. If you would be so good, dear sir, as to keep a, ah, space eye out for transporter signals and be prepared to intercept them, I and no doubt our fellow-travellers on the shuttle Rameses would be eternally grateful to your good self. =/\= "Aye Sir," Fred rolled his eyes at his assistant as he spoke ~Typical Perky, why use one word to say something when you can use five?~ He nodded to Iona who lowered her eyes to her console. "I'm picking up a signal!" she said, just as the open comm relayed =/\= Captain, we've got... bodies being beamed into the space to our starboard bow!=/\= followed by a bellow of =/\=Beam them in!=/\= from the Captain. "I'm onto it! Intercepted, sending them direct to Sickbay!" Only the first two actually materialised in the in-between of space, and in less than a second were caught in the Kitty's transporters. The rest were caught just before full materialisation. Both Iona and Fred worked as quickly as they could, intercepting the transporter signals and once they were loaded into the pattern buffers on the Kitty, beamed them direct to Sickbay, who were already on stand-by. They only hit a problem once, with the fourth intercept. A power-fluctuation affected the transfer of the two signals, but some rapid adjustments by the two operators meant that whilst the two crewmembers were safely materialised near to Sickbay, they were not actually *in* Sickbay. The intercept and transport of the last two went without a hitch and Bayer hit his commbadge just as the Captain's voice sounded over the comms. =/\=Status on getting them beamed aboard?=/\= "We have five sets of two people, all beamed direct to Sickbay, Sir.
