He was very nice about it, he smiled at her and told her not to worry about it. "...While I have been very fortunate to have had access to regular meals, I have had the occasion that has made me appreciate food. And Ms. Hikaru provides truly excellent fare. I would join you in making happy sounds were I not so contented. My name is Donald and you are?" Arania decided that she really needed a second name as everyone she had encountered seemed to have at least two names, but this fellow had introduced himself with one and as she didn't have a second name right that minute she simply said: "I am Arania." She bowed her head politely as she decided that she would ponder on whether or not to introduce herself as Arania of Iradon or use her place of origin in some other form on first meetings, or something else entirely; Matthew would probably help her, he was smart and thought of things that Arania would never have thought of until he mentioned them. "Pleased to meet you. Have you given any thought on how you will spend your days on Boudicca, now that you've had time to settle in?" asked Donald. "I have been busy with the learning of Federay-shan Stan-dud and its written form since I came here." Her eyes lit up and she smiled brightly, "I am to be a Federay-shan cityz'n." Arania informed him and then her voice lowered and she leaned closer to the man as she whispered. "Study oft times becomes tiresome, it is much work to learn new speaking and writing, and I wish many times to have some other thing to do for a change." She felt a little guilty, as if she should not have said such a thing as it might offend, but Donald didn't seem to mind. "Perhaps you would do us the honor of playing in Ten-Forward once a week or so. I'm sure the crew would appreciate it. Don't you think, Ms. Hikaru?" He suggested. (Reply Mei Ling) "Oh YES! I would much be honored to do so, but also I love to sing. I have been told the singing is not unpleasant to the ear, but alas," she sighed heavily, sadness filled her heart as memories flooded back. "My string instruments, percussion instruments and the other air instruments were all destroyed by the Noble's men who attacked my village and Temple and massacred everyone." There wasn't much left on her plate and now Arania's appetite was gone. Pushing the plate from her, she picked up her pipes and once again lifted it to her lips, but this time she played a soulful lament for those she had lost on that dreadful day, for she had been unable to play for the dead and dying at the time, fearful of discovery by the Noble's men. Tears welled and trickled down her cheeks as the mournful melody filled the room. ~Sweet Goddess, I beg you to give their souls repose in your kingdom of light and beauty, and grant them rebirth into a kinder world where all are equal in your eyes.~ (reply Mei Ling, Donald, any) (posted by Sal) (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering, CEO's Office- CEO- Lt. Matthew McLaren-- 1005) =^=Understood sir, I'm right on my way=^= Jael replied. Matthew didn't have to wait long before the door enunciator chimed in with a warbled sickly sound. He frowned, yet another minor problem that needed to be fixed. "Enter" he replied. The door slid open to reveal Jael. "Come in Ensign, I wanted to talk to you about a couple of things." (reply Jael) First I was hoping to borrow your expertise to help track down a very sneaky power flux. He handed her the PADD on which he had recorded his suspicions. It detailed the affected waveguides and the power relays on that segment of the EPS conduits. "The intermix primary display power waveguide has burned out twice over the last 24 hours. As you can see from this display, there shouldn't be any level of damaging power that can get past the plasma filters and the quantum fuse buses to reach this console short of a very serious plasma cascade. There have been no other symptoms of a power cascade at all. So either the hazardous power flow is on this side of the safeties, or there's an unrecorded and unregulated power flow through those lines, or the filters and fuse busses have failed. Either way, I'd appreciate it if you could give this problem some of your attention and see if we can resolve it before we go back into battle." (reply Jael) "On a more personal note. I wanted to tell you that we all have our reasons for our actions. I have mine, and I know that you have yours. I'm a pretty observant person and I've noticed some things that you may not realize I've noticed. I'm not going to go into details, because if you'd wanted to talk to be about it you would have already. But…. I do want to tell you this one thing. I consider you a friend and a fine officer. Regardless of the face that you may put on for everyone else, you can trust me to support you if you are in the right. This tension that you're carrying around with you isn't healthy. I don't know what may have happened to you to make you tense like this and I don't need to know unless you want to share." "I can tell you, that one of the best CO's I ever had a woman by the name of Lise Arianna. She once saw the potential that I had to be a great engineer and perhaps a good officer. I've come a long way since then, thanks to the impossible things that she once demanded from me. She instilled in me a desire to stand out and to do the best work that I could under some very adverse conditions. Once thing she did not teach me was how to just skate by and to just go with the flow." "You have some great potential in you Jael. I can see a shadow of a great CO in you. You handle stress well, you keep your cool. You manage to do some of the best work I've seen in a long time. Almost as if you'd had years in the field. You have command potential in my opinion. But you're not approachable. You stick to yourself. You seem to exhibit some limited antisocial behavior. I'd like to see that change. I'd like you to start really living up to your full potential. Be seen, rather than silently standing by." "You remind me a great deal of Lise. I want you to succeed. I can help you to a degree, but only if you're willing to help yourself. I can see the sheer determination in your eyes. There's a warrior underneath your skin. Harness that power to good ends and you'll notice a difference in how others perceive you and how you perceive yourself." (reply Jael) (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Observation Lounge-AOPS Lt. Tollian Yalix-1248) As the meeting let out Tollian looked that the ship's chronometer. The meeting had been scheduled to run for the entire hour, but it seemed to have run short. The thoughts of how he should most effectively spend his extra 5 minutes were interrupted by the voice of the Chief Operations Officer, Lieutenant Johnson. "Guys, let's have a talk in my office." he ordered in a friendly tone. Tollian nodded and followed Donald to his office. (USS Boudicca - COPS Office-AOPS Lt. Tollian Yalix-1252) "Have a seat," Donald said as he took a seat behind his desk. "What do you think of our mission?" he asked. Tollian regarded Kea for a moment, wishing to allow the junior officer an opportunity to speak first. Sensing that he wasn't going to do so, the Efrosian replied instead. "I don't believe that we should have any particular thoughts on the matter, sir." Tollian replied, "we all knew that this moment would come sooner than later. If we did not, then we would not be having this conflict in the first place. I have known that I would be part of this moment since I joined Starfleet and heard about the first rumblings of Civil Strife. I am here to do my duty and represent my people in this incident. I have no opinion about this battle any more than I do any other that we have fought in this conflict. My thoughts are more about the entirety of the war rather than one specific battle. There are some things that should probably be looked at prior to engaging in such a strenuous and high risk endeavor as the one this push signifies." (reply Kea, Johnson) "Any suggestions you think we need to look at specifically?" Donald asked, as he picked up his padd to go over the current ship status. "I received a report from Main Engineering earlier today asking if we have been running any abnormal power levels through the secondary terminal power nodes in main engineering. I have only begun researching their answer. There was a significant amount of damage to those busses and nodes over the course of the last several battles. It is possible that there is a power bleed that I am unaware of at this time." (reply Kea, Johnson) "I believe we're going to be running drills for a few days and I want you both to get bridge time. I know it may be asking a bit much, but I would like both of you to do a few hours on each of the shifts that you are not assigned on. Just for the practice. I'll be on the bridge more often, but I will use the mission ops station to monitor our daily operations. We do seem to have a problem with our matter reclamation systems. I have a team working on it, but if either of you feel up to it, I would appreciate it." said Donald. "I would appreciate additional bridge time, sir. Additionally, I would like to request that I be allowed to be on the bridge during the initiation of the Main Offensive if that is possible. I could occupy the Auxiliary Operations Station. As for the reclamation system, If ensign Kea doe not wish to undertake that duty, I shall do so willingly. (reply Kea, Johnson) (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca, Deck 11 - Johnson's Office - OPS Lt (jg) Donald Johnson - 1255) Donald looked his two fellow officers, trying to read their faces and body language for any signs of concern. He did not wish to spread any feelings of concern that might have an ill affect to the crew's morale at large. Yalix's response to his first question was not what Donald had expected. He had been more interested on their take on the mission's specifics and how they were to accomplish it. But it was interesting to learn more about Yalix's thought processes. While they had served together for three months, some folks just took longer to get to know. Donald braced himself when he asked his second questions, but the responses he received were more along the lines of what he expected. He nodded as he tapped in notes into his padd, as he listened to their responses before continuing on with his own thoughts. "I would appreciate additional bridge time, sir. Additionally, I would like to request that I be allowed to be on the bridge during the initiation of the Main Offensive if that is possible. I could occupy the Auxiliary Operations Station. As for the reclamation system, If ensign Kea does not wish to undertake that duty, I shall do so willingly." replied Yalix to Donald's statements. Donald nodded and glanced over the information he had on his padd. Slowly marching orders that had been bubbling in the back of his head came forth. "I will monitor your performance during our drills and make a decision in the next few days, Lieutenant. In the meantime, this is what I would like our department to do. First I want you, Tollian, to go ahead and take care of that power issue you mentioned. I would also like you to identify those sections of the ship that might be considered non-essential during the battle. I think that we may need to divert power away from those areas, including life support during the battle, so lets see what that would entail and then notify the captain, if we get a significant power boost. I'd start with the holographic systems throughout the ship." Donald paused, to see if Yalix had any questions. (Reply Yalix, if desired) Continuing on, Donald looked at Ensign Kea and said, "Carft, I want you to work with the science department and see if we can fine tune our sensors a bit as well as reinforcing our communication systems. We want those functioning as best as possible, both internally in case we get boarded and especially external in order to coordinate with the fleet. In the meantime, I will head up a team to make sure all our EVA suits and escape pods are functioning. I don't plan on losing this battle, but we prepare for the worst and I'm sure having the EVA suits on hand will be good especially if we start playing with power on everything. Clear?" (Reply Kea) "I'll handle that reclamation problem, since I've already looked at it in the morning. I'm sure it's no big thing. Any questions?" asked Donald. (Reply Yalix, Kea) "Okay, let's get to work." said Donald, as he stood up from his desk. "Let's meet again tomorrow night to go over how things are going." (USS Boudicca COPS Office -AOPS Lt. Tollian Yalix-1258) "I will monitor your performance during our drills and make a decision in the next few days, Lieutenant. In the meantime, this is what I would like our department to do. I shall have results for you as quickly as possible." Already the areas to focus on were beginning to come to mind. He would just need to fine tune the details. This was a task that Tollian had performed many times before . As he had been the ranking officer in Operations prior to Johnson's arrival, he had handled the lyrak's share of the work for the department. These requests were nothing new, nor did he have any difficulty performing the duties he was assigned. Continuing on, Donald looked at Ensign Kea and said, "Carft, I want you to work with the science department and see if we can fine tune our sensors a bit as well as reinforcing our communication systems. Tollian left the room and headed for the Operations Offices. He would have his reports ready in roughly three hours. (Reply Johnson, Kea) (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Observation Lounge- CEO- Lt. Matthew McLaren-- 1300) Once the meeting was finished and everyone had been dismissed Matthew stayed behind. He had no doubt in his mind that the new Captain wanted to speak with him sooner rather than later. He noted also that the First officer remained in the room as well. ~Only to be expected.~ He thought. "Sir, what did you have in mind?" he asked, ready to do his part in the upcoming battle to his best ability. It was time to make a bigger difference than just being the ship's CEO. Now the success of the mission could rest in his hands. (reply Stakes, Stolev) (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Bridge-AOPS Lt. Tollian Yalix-1520) Tollian had arrived on the bridge early for his shift as was his normal habit. This act allowed him to read all the prior shift reports and then speak to the operations officer on duty before taking his post for the shift. So he was already on the bridge when the call to prepare for yellow alert was called. He immediately began preparing to shift power in anticipation of assuming a red alert stance. As soon as the klaxon sounded and the amber lights switched to red, Tollian went to work. Since the shift officer was still on duty, Tollian dropped him the readiness status indicators almost immediately and began querying the readiness of the various departments. "Captain," he reported, only a couple of minutes into the drill "Operations department is standing to for Battle stations, all power from nonessential ship's systems is keyed for reallocation. Shuttle bay reports all auxiliary craft secured for battle. Cargo bays report similar status for their materiel. I will report the readiness of each department as they check in." (Reply Stakes) "I'm sorry sir, elapsed time for operations, 2 minutes 10 seconds." As the other departments reported in Tollian read them off including the elapsed time of their readiness. "Tactical and Security manned and ready, 2 minutes 25 seconds; Marines, in position 2 minutes 32 seconds; Medical manned and ready, 3 minutes 22 seconds; Engineering. manned and ready 3 minutes 38 seconds; Sciences, manned and ready, 3 minutes 42 seconds; Counseling department, reporting ready at elapsed time of 6 minutes 24 seconds, sir." (reply Stakes) (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - Acting CO Archibald Stakes- 1655) Archibald handed the PADD back to Esme, who was already carrying several. "Make a copy of the file and deliver it to my quarters for my personal reference." He let out a small sigh. "I believe that was all. All apart from Mister Gates, apparently. Are you sure that she arrived on board?" Esme did not even look down at her father's desk, where the reporting in PADD still lay. "She arrived at a little before sixteen hundred, Sir. Shuttle Massada." she replied as he picked up the PADD again and started reading it again. "It IS acceptable, Sir, for a new arrival to first store the luggage before reporting in, giving the new arrival time to ensure he or she is presentable." "But an hour?" Archibald said disapproving. Esme decided not to explain that sometimes an hour was a very short time. Instead she straightened her shoulders. "Do you wish me to go and look for her, Sir?" Archibald gave it some thought before nodding. "Yes, that may be...." He fell silent as the door suddenly swished open and a young officer entered. "That is all, Yeoman" Archibald said, indicating to his daughter that he wanted to have a 'little' word with the Ensign in private and Esme stepped out after a short nod to the senior ranked new arrival. Archibald regarded the young Ensign for a second and he narrowed his eyes as he recognised the signs of distress. She stood for a moment and seemed to swallow with difficulty, her eyes flittering around the room. "Uh Ensign Gates reporting for duty Sir," she said with a strange voice and then threw up. Archibald sat in his chair, for once quite unsure what to do, looking at the reddening face of the Ensign before him and the sick splattered partly on his desk. It didn't take him long to snap out of it and his hand reached for the comm button that was linked with his yeoman's badge. "Yeoman, can you come in here please." Before he could withdraw his hand, the door swished open already and Esme walked in, quickly surveying the situation. "Dad!" she started with a blaming look in her eyes the took a step closer to the Ensign as to support her. "What?!" Archibald responded, suddenly realising what his daughter meant. "But.." he started before his hand slammed on the desk. "That's enough. Take Ensign ... Ensign .... Ensign Gates here and help her freshen up. Use the sink in the back." "Oh you poor thing," Esme said as she led Georgia away, shooting one of those looks at her father as she continued: "Was he nasty to you?" Archibald watched the two disappear in the small alcove wide-eyed until he caught himself and tapped his own comm badge. "MR. CARFT!" He restrained himself for a second before he continued. "Mr. Carft, we have had a little accident in the Ready Room. Get it cleared up. Now." He then sat down again, casting a few glances at the back where he could hear his daughter chatter all the way trying desperately to disregard the stench. (reply Georgia, Kea, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Boudicca, Deck 20 - Reclamation Center - OPS Lt (jg) Donald Johnson - 1700) His work crew had called him down to take a look at the reclamation systems. The system seemed to be misdirecting the incoming matter and they were trying to figure out what was going on. It was an incredible smell that he had walked in on and was quite perplexed by what could be causing this. So far this hadn't affected the general ship populace, but if it continued for much longer, it could affect the replicator systems. He was walking behind one of the systems in the far corner of the room, when he noticed a pool of some kind at the base leading up to the wall. It looked like it had burned through the wall and was flowing out to the adjacent room. ~What's next door?~ wondered Donald, as he tried to think about the ship's layout. Donald's tricorder was now registering strange readings. ~The Cargo Bay.~ thought Donald. "Johnson to al-Sharif" he said after tapping his commbadge. (Reply al-Sharif) "Can you meet me in Cargo Bay One, I have a leak that definitely needs fixing." he said. (Reply al-Sharif) Donald started to head to the door. "Shut the system down and switch to the back up." he ordered. (USS Boudicca, Deck 20 - Cargo Bay One - OPS Lt (jg) Donald Johnson - 1705) Donald walked into the cargo bay to see a full tactical team guarding some large object that as best as Donald could tell was in the path of the goo from next door. With them being in full tactical gear, he could understand why they had not smelled it. His sudden appearance, however, seemed to alarm them as he was now familiarizing himself with the business end of phaser rifles. ~Woah~ he thought, as he raised both his hands, tricorder in hand. "Don't worry, I mean no harm. I just need to see about that." he said pointing toward the goo that was behind the thing they were guarding. (Reply Yalix, Kea, al-Sharif, Any) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) NRPG: Typical, he panicked for nothing absolutely nothing. I swear I don't know how they've let him continue. He's so on the edge. A little push and he'll be completely unhinged. Okay, now I gave you the password last time. Remember it? Great. Really excellent. Now did you bring the object? What? What is with you? First you take the wrong pictures, then you forget the password, and now this? I mean really? How do you expect to do this? Now, now, put that down. I didn't mean it. I'm just cranky. It's been a long day. I mean look at him. What does he expect? Okay, well I'll see you again.
