"I agree, but how? They won't let us near it," replied Donald. "Well, we're going to have to tell him. I don't see any way around it. I mean, if we don't, then he's going to find out one way or another, and in this time and place, I think it's better that we contact him now and deal with that wrath rather than just doing and then having to explain ourselves from the brig. Do you concur? asked al-Sharif. Donald nodded, not really sure who she was talking about. In reply the Lieutenant tapped her commbadge and said, "Ar... al-Sharif to Falthgood" ~Falthgood?~ wondered Donald, as he looked from the guards to the engineer. He listened to the exchange waiting to hear the magic words that would get them past the SS. Finally he heard the lieutenant say, "Understood. Sir. Al-Sharif out." She turned to Donald and said, "Well, it looks like we get to cross the line... Are you ready?" "I'd better be before something really bad happens." Donald replied, accepting the repair kit from her. With great trepidation they approached Falthgood's toy. (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - ACMO Gates - 1940) "........But I do encourage them to talk to me should they feel the need, with the promise that I will remain non-judgmental, my office door is always open to them and sometimes it's something trivial they don't wish to discuss with a counselor... Also, we've been having at least one drill per shift, random scenarios covering all possibilities during battle. We have all improved in our response times." Georgia nodded in agreement with what Dr Jahlen had just told her. All in all, it sounded like things in Sickbay were set up to run perfectly. ~almost like they don't need me, which I guess they don't really if they've been managing up until now without me~ She frowned for a moment, remembering Jahlens mention of a counselor. "I hope you don't find this, um, inappropriate, but how do you find Counselor.... um... Oggie?" Unsure how her question might be coming across, she quickly continued. "I mean, I just wondered if he takes a proactive approach to the crew, or just those who go to visit him or are sent to him?" She knew she was probably gabbling, but wasn't sure how to stop. ~what you really want to know is why did he visit, is it normal or has he been warned you're a fruit cake already~ (reply Jahlen iyw) (posted by Wendy) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mission: The Fires of Heaven, Day 3 Stardate: 2407.06.30 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - ACMO Gates - 1605) "...... Georgia looked closely at him for a moment, wondering if he had heard of the goat incident, or even the ready room one although that was less likely. ~unless Stakes gets a kick out of telling people things like that~ "The first day did have a few interesting moments, but things are definitely improving. I can't quite believe I'm here, but the people I've met so far seem nice." ~well, most of them anyway~ "Well if you need anything just let me know, I'll be happy to help," offered Donald. Georgia smiled her thanks to the OPS officer. "There’s nothing I can think of right now. Don't forget to call back if you continue feeling out of sorts. I'd hate to have you cause an epidemic." She said, half joking. ~I can just imagine what the Captain would have to say about *that*~ (Reply Donald iyw) (posted by Wendy) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - OPS Lt (jg) Donald Johnson - 1610) Donald was enjoying his brief exchange with the new doctor onboard. She seemed friendly enough and he sometimes though that the strongest medicine was a comforting doctor. He already was starting to feel better. "There’s nothing I can think of right now. Don't forget to call back if you continue feeling out of sorts. I'd hate to have you cause an epidemic." she said, half joking. Donald laughed as he hopped to his feet. "Well, I wouldn't want to be responsible for that. I will see you around the ship. I usually take my meals in ten-forward. You should drop by sometime and have a meal with me. We're lucky here because our hostess at Ten-Forward actually works with real food too. It's quite a treat." Donald said. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mission: The Fires of Heaven, Day 5 Stardate: 2407.07.02 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< (USS Boudicca - Sick Bay - ACMO Gates - 1955) One thing Georgia was having difficulty with since she had arrived on the ship was finding something to occupy her time during the evenings. There had always been something to do at Academy , even if she was just on the outskirts of it, watching. Here however, she found she had alot more time on her own with nothing to do. There were only so many hours she could spend reading before it started to drive her mad. It was partly due to this that she found herself back in her office doing her best to look busy and keep out of everyone’s way. ~I just hope they don't think I'm checking up on them~ She turned her attention back to the stack of Padds in front of her. It was, she had decided, a good opportunity to familiarise herself with the crews medical files, and although she was alone in her office it was also comforting to know there were others nearby. She took a padd from the top of the stack, and was just beginning to read it when she heard someone enter sickbay, followed by a tentative voice saying Hello. Georgia froze for a moment. She knew exactly who it was by the accent, although it had been a couple of days since she had last heard it. ~there's no forgetting it though especially when it sounds so much like *him*~ Without thinking about what she was doing, she slid quietly off her chair, and underneath her desk. She crouched as far back as she could get, and debated her options. As far as she knew, no one had noticed her come back into her office so with any luck, no one would realise she was there. If Lorimar needed any sort of medical treatment, Georgia was sure one of the nurses could easily attend to it. She could feel her cheeks burning, and shook her head slightly, wondering what she was doing. ~ there's no reason to avoid the poor man ~ A part of her wanted to crawl back out, sit back in her chair, and act like a normal person would. But she couldn't. There was something about Bob Lorimar that unsettled her, and Georgia’s gut reaction to things that unsettled her, was to avoid them. (reply Lorimar, any ;) ) (posted by Wendy) (USS Boudicca - Sick Bay - ACEO Lorimar -1957) Bob cast a glance around Sick Bay, having been here only once before, for his 'reporting aboard' physical. It was laid out as he remembered, much the same as most shipboard Sick Bays. He recalled all those months he had spent in a room very much like this, recovering. He almost repressed a shudder, only feeling the hair stand on the back of his neck as the memories flooded so strongly back. ~Maybe this wasnae such a brilliant idea ye rascal... better tae avoid doctors, nurses and hospitals altogether? Och... stop bein' silly... tis nae anything tae be feared ye silly oaf!~ He cast a glance around. No one responded to his greeting, they are all busy perhaps. Well, no need to bother anyone anyway... He took several quiet steps inside, and located what he believed to be the CMO's office. There was a large stack of PADDS on the desk, and a chair pushed back from the desk a bit. A work in progress, from the looks of it. He stepped through the open door and gently placed the PADD with attachment that he was carrying among those already on the desk. It wouldn't stand out, not really... only being different because of the folded silk atop the screen. He turned and walked out of the office again. Giving a wave to no one in particular, he stepped out the Sick Bay doors and took a turn toward the nearest turbolift, headed for the mess hall. (Reply Any) (Posted briefly by Russ) (USS Boudicca - Sick Bay - ACMO Gates - 2000) >From her cramped position beneath the desk, Georgia heard someone enter the room. She held her breath and kept as still as possible, a multitude of scenarios running through her mind, the worst of which somehow involved the Captain. ~please don't look down, please don't look down~ She could hear footsteps approaching and then a pair of trouser legs appeared beside her. She could feel her heart beating so hard it was a wonder it wasn't able to be heard. ~or jump right out of my chest, lord what if I have a heart attack right here! what would they think when they found me~ Something was placed on the desk, and after a brief moments hesitation, though of course to Georgia it felt like minutes, the legs disappeared from view. Moments later she heard the outer doors open and closed, and she let her breath out as quietly as she could. ~someone could still come in, best to get out quickly now!~ Somehow it had been easy to slide in under the desk but getting out was an altogether more awkward job. Doing her best to untangle her legs and get out in a hurry, she unfortunately tried to stand too soon. There was a loud thump as bone connected with metal, and Georgia felt tears spring to her eyes as her head throbbed. A small whimper escaped her lips, but she did her best to stay quiet despite the pain. She gently touched the lump to make sure there was no blood, and found she had to sit down quickly as a wave of dizziness settled over her. ~stupid, stupid girl, you have issues, serious issues~ Her eyes fell on the package that had been placed on her desk. There was something wrapped in what appeared to be silk, placed atop a Padd which she was certain hadn't been there earlier, although her desk tended to be so messy it wouldn't have surprised her if it had. She gently picked up the silk parcel, noting its faint sweet smell, and unwrapped it. Held within the confines of the delicate material was a small sprig of white heather. She recognised it immediately, and felt a flurry of mixed emotions. Another reminder of *him* Another part of the lost dream dragged once again into her consciousness. She closed her eyes briefly, ignoring the throbbing in her head. It was time, well past time in fact, that she had to do something about it. It wasn't right and it wasn't healthy to let her memories keep hurting her, and potentially hurting people around her. ~ if this isn't a wake up call to get help, I'm not sure what is, what would've happened if I'd been found under the desk, what would people have thought, what am I really scared of? dredging up more painful memories, do I have to avoid anyone or thing that might cause me pain~ She lifted the sprig of heather to her nose and inhaled the scent, doing her best to block out any thoughts, just enjoying the sweet smell. Opening her eyes once more, she remembered there had been a Padd under the package. Placing the heather carefully down on the desk, she lifted the Padd and nervously began to read. "Doctor Gates, Please accept this small token. Where I was born, this is a symbol of good luck and peace. When we ran into each other the other day in the corridor, you said that you were having possibly the worst day of your life. If you believe in such things as I do, you should find this helpful in leading you to a more favorable fortune. Consider this a gesture of hope for a stranger in a strange land. To better days Doctor. Please accept my most sincere apology for whatever wrongs I did you the other day. Sincerely, Bob, the goat-wrangling engineer." She felt her face growing warm, although there was no one there to witness it. ~and this is how you treat someone who's extending the hand of friendship, by hiding from them~ This time she let out an audible groan, and wondered what to do. If she went now to thank him, surely he would wonder where she had appeared from so quickly? If she didn't, he would think she didn't appreciate his gift. How to respond to his gift was another matter entirely. She did have a brief idea, but not knowing his religious beliefs, there was always a worry she might offend him. Getting slowly to her feet, lest her aching head give her more trouble, she picked up the small bundle and the Padd, and headed out of her office. There were several things she needed to do, if only she could find the courage to do them. (reply any?) She stopped dead in her tracks with astonishment, she had never seen the place this full. Matthew was looking pleased, he was wearing a big grin on his face "Now this looks like a party Arania" he said. opening his arms wide as if to embrace the whole room. She took the opportunity to admire how handsome he looked before gazing around the room in wonder. Her grip on her rolled keyboard tightened. It looked like a celebratory gathering and she could hear some music softly playing. Stepping further into the room she couldn't see any musicians. "It is 'canned' music playing." She verbally observed, having learned the expression from Matthew shortly after arriving aboard, when her curiosity finally got the better of her and she had then asked him, with great solemnity. "Where are the musicians hiding, Matthew?" Arania's face flushed at the remembrance of the embarrassment she'd felt, when he'd explained what the music was coming from, having thought that he must think her to be such a silly female. "Looks as if we have a packed house." he commented again, "I see Captain Rivers and well…. I'll be *Colonel* Drizzt! Looks like the Old blue skinned sunovagun managed to wrangle himself a promotion. I didn't know old frosty had it in him." ~Sunovagun? Is that his father name? So Drizzt Sunovagun is his all name?~ Arania thought, looking over to the group of people Matthew had mentioned. He turned and smiled at Arania who blinked at him owlishly, she really wanted to know, but more than likely she'd only show him just how foolish she was... yet again. "What do you say we get ourselves some ice cream and mingle a bit. Maybe if you want to, you can play a little something for everyone, since you brought along the keyboard." he suggested. Her eyes lit up. "Eyes scream is good! Like that much I would." She stated, the thought of enjoying such ambrosia overcoming her nervousness at being among all the people inside. "To see Mei Ling I go. Would you bring eyes scream?" She asked, not waiting for a reply as she hurried over to the bar, just knowing Matthew would happily bring her the treat. Arania slithered on to a high bar stool and put her rolled keyboard on the counter. "Mei Ling!" She called excitedly as she unfurled the instrument. "Come see what I bring!" Arania wasn't sure at first if it was her that was being spoken to, but the voice was familiar bringing to mind the healer of the away team, so Arania turned to look at the speaker. Recognizing Josh, Arania reached out and gave her a BIG hug. "Oh! To see you again is most pleasant!" She enthused, giving the woman another tight squeeze before releasing her. She shook her head at Josh. "Name of me is Arania, healer Josh. Not Arianna." She smiled to show she was pleased to see the doctor and not offended. "You are well?" She asked. (reply Josh) "Matthew is well, as I am too! Come here we did for eyes scream, and I hoping to make music also..." Arania lovingly caressed a hand over the keyboard on the counter. "How fare the others of the Iradon team?" (reply Josh, any) (posted by Sal) (USS Boudicca - Ten Forward - aCEO Jael al-Sharif - 22.03) Lise resisted the urge to exhale a sigh of relief. Susan was handling the situation masterfully. ~So far, I'm not in the brig yet...~ Arianna thought to herself. She listened as Susan even faltered with rank. ~Nice touch,~ She thought. There was something to be said about standing beside her friend again. Even though, when they were serving together for the brief period of time, Lise took comfort in knowing that Susan was onboard and that Susan knew who she was. As a result, Susan probably got a little less of the Jael lip than any other commanding officer would have. Granted, Lise still acted up and out in public situations -- mainly to retain her characterisation of a "loose cannon", but with Susan, she never did it in a way that would inconvenience her. With Susan, her defiance was literally an act. She couldn't, however say the same for certain other high-ranked officials. Only when Susan addressed Lise, did she permit Jael's face to turn towards her. "It's good to see you again, Lieutenant. And congratulations on your promotion. Well-deserved, I'm sure, especially after the sterling work you put in during and after the battle with the Exeter" Lise just nodded humbly and permitted herself to half-return the smile. She didn't speak, however, as Rivers continued addressing the Commander. "Our then CEO, Lieutenant McLaren was badly injured and ACEO al-Sharif stepped into the breach magnificently despite not having been on the ship very long. I left a commendation on her record for that before I transferred." Again, the speech was not addressed to her, so instead of seeking trouble actively. Lise chose to remain silent, watching what would ensue. All the while she kept repeating in her mind's-eye the first scene that had played out when she met Commander Stakes. She almost chuckled as she recalled the way that Stakes had baited her with regards to Susan. Saying flat out that behaved like a spoiled brat, and was susceptible to emotional outbursts. Oh, if Susan only knew. But Stakes was counting on that, Lise knew. Instead, she had Jael stand there, amidst her superiors and say nothing. The game was afoot, who would play the next move? (Reply anyone in the circus ring) (Posted by Kat) (USS Boudicca - Ten Forward - Tommy Tucker - 2212) The psammead had managed eventually to elude Mei Ling's supervision and had sidled his way around the room for some time. There was music playing and some people were trying to dance amidst the crowd with some difficulty, and he had given them a wide berth. His forays around the tables had netted him quite a few pieces of orange, and even one or two whole drinks, abandoned by their owners. Consequently he was swaying slightly as he walked and the occasional hiccough escaped him. He was also beginning to feel invincible. He was Tommy Tucker the magnificent! His sleight of hand was perfect! No one, not even Mei Ling, could spot him! All the same, Tommy kept as unobtrusive as possible as he sidled up to his latest target, a man dressed in white so bright it almost hurt Tommy's eyes speaking to a woman with pointy ears sitting at a table. On the table was the aim of Tommy's subterfuge: an almost full glass of a bright orange drink. The man in white and the woman were speaking quietly, not taking any notice of things going on around them, so Tommy was able to sneak up unobserved. He could see a slice of orange floating in the drink, and his paw crept towards it, his eyes watching both the man and the woman in case they noticed. They didn't, but as his paw dipped into the glass to grab the orange slice, someone trod on him and Tommy yelped and jumped, his paw twitched, the glass fell and the bright orange liquid splashed all over the formerly clean white clothes of the man. There was a yell from someone but Tommy didn't wait to find out who. He leaped for the nearest escape route, which just happened to be a table containing several glasses, the contents of which also went flying over various people. Tommy leaped to another table and another, ending up by sliding along the bar. scattering drinks and ice cream over the patrons there. He managed to slide to a halt by the tall stern-looking man, who Mei Ling and the fat man called 'Archibald' but who everyone else seemed to call 'Commander Stakes', talking to someone Tommy didn't recognise. They were standing just beyond the end of the bar nearest the doors. As Tommy managed (just) not to slide of the end, the contents of both an ice-cream bowl and a glass containing a bright red drink splattered all over Archibald. Tommy grinned. "Oopsh!" he said, then spat on his paw and tried to clean off some of the ice cream. (Reply McDermott, Stakes, Trinin, Any) (Posted by Liz) (USS Boudicca, 10 Forward, ATT Lt. He blinked and his eyes grew even wider as he noticed Captain Rivers approaching him with the blue skinned Andorian and another person Zzt had not expected to see tonight. "SALAD!!" Zzt exclaimed as he took a step forward and snatched Salid up in a giant hug, licking the man's face several times in rapid succession. "Zzt no know you was coming!! How you? You still on Nimitz?" "YOU WITH CUBS!!" Zzt yelled, staring wide eyed at Rivers. "When that happen!? You not going have litter here is you?" Zzt looked around franticly at the thought of Rivers having her little of cubs on the floor of 10 Forward as crowded as it was. Before Zzt could think of what to do there was a rumbling and something struck him on hard on the leg. "Lt. Cmdr Zzt, I am pleased to meet you yet again," Maraht said, hitting one of Zzt's legs hard with its phalange. "I am afraid I cannot pick you up. I apologize, Sir." "MY' 'HAT!!!" Zzt yelled, shocked to his old Horta friend again. Zzt reached down and grabbed Maraht and lifted the Horta high into the air, momentarily forgetting about Rivers. "My'Hat! My'Hat!" Zzt grabbed the Horta and effortlessly lifted the 400 pound Horta into a massive hug that would have crushed anyone else. Zzt danced around with the Horta briefly before his eyes caught hold of something amazing. ~What is that!?~ Zzt thought as he was what looked like a tree moving about across the room. With eyes wide like a child seeing something wonderful for the first time, and with Maraht still tucked neatly under one arm, Zzt moved across the room his eyes never leaving the tree that Zzt could now hear talking. ~IT TALKS!!~ Zzt stopped next to the tree-like being and stared down at it wide eyed. "DOOBIE!!"Zzt exclaimed merrily as he rushed over and snatched Debbie Weston up in a massive hug before licking her repeatedly. "Hi Doobie! Zzt miss you. You miss Zzt?" Zzt asked before hugging Debbie again then setting down a disheveled and now very wet Debbie Weston. (Reply Weston, Anyone around her) (Again room for more if needed. Zzt's eyes grew wide again as he suddenly remembered. Rivers was looking in the direction of the commotion, her hand moving toward her swollen belly. ~Oh, not now!~ Zzt thought, moving into action. Zzt crossed the room in two quick strides and scooped Rivers up into the crook of one of his massive arms. "Oh, no! No have cubs now!" Zzt exclaimed as he spun one way then another as he looked for an empty corner, but there wasn't one to be found. In his excitement, Zzt didn't notice that he was bumping into people and tables sending them and their beverages flying. Zzt moved first one way then spun and moved back in the other direction. Tables where over turned and milkshakes and ice cream were soon flying in every direction. Zzt didn't even notice his rump bump into Commander Stakes sending him flying into whoever he had been talking to and sending both sprawling on the floor. A table next to them was then dumped drenching both of them in ice cream, milkshake and other drinks. A flying banana-split came hurtling toward Zzt and he turned to protect Rivers from being hit. The dish bounced off Zzt's shoulder sending it's contents flying high into the air. Zzt turned still looking for a good safe place to put Rivers down and a scoop of flying ice cream landed squarely on Rivers nose and slid onto her eyes. Finally, Zzt turned toward the doors to 10 Forward. ~Sickbay! Got to get her to Sickbay~ He thought as he charged for the doors. "GANG WAY!" He yelled. "SHE HAVING CUBS!! GOT'S GET HER SICKBAY!! NO HAVE LITTER CUBS HERE!!" The doors opened before Zzt got to them and a Eva walked through just arriving. She smiled her thanks to Dr Jahlen who was obviously tired, but had done her best to support Georgia during the meeting. "Thank you for being here. I won't hold you up too much longer, I just hope you can catch some more sleep before your shift. Speaking of which, I wanted to let you know that if you would like to change to Alpha or Beta shift, I'm happy for you to do so. I'm sure Nurse Mason can tweak the roster to suit. I just think maybe Gamma shift isn't the most suitable to utilise your talents." (USS Boudicca - Quarters - ACMO Gates - 1800) It had been 3 days since Lorimar had left Georgia the heather, and she still hadn't found the courage to respond. There were in fact several things she hadn't found the courage to do, but that she felt was the most important. A visit to see the Counselor was also on her to-do list, but she found that one easy enough to avoid for now. ~baby steps will do for now~ She sat alone in her room, going through a few unpacked cases, more to fill the time and keep her mind occupied than anything else. She had considered taking a small amount of time to meditate, but there was a more pressing issue to deal with. What to give Lorimar in return for the heather was causing her some concern. Of course he probably didn't expect anything, but Georgia had always thought that it was rude not to respond in kind when someone gave you a gift. She fiddled idly with her stones, wishing she had bought more with her, because a stone would be the ideal gift. ~or just reinforce to him that you are a loose cannon and best to stay away from~ She gazed at the stones in her hand, wondering if there was any way she could part with one of them. A team always works together, right? At least a good team?~ Bob studied her for a moment. He really could not read his Lieutenant very well at all, she seemed almost to have a neutral mask riveted in place... never up, never down... just there. He did however get a faint sense that she might be uncomfortable... almost as though she had to search for an answer. ~Maybe she doesnae like being touched, or even haein folk close tae her?~ Very fluidly Lorimar removed his hand from her shoulder and backed away just a bit, in case she were uncomfortable with his proximity. "Aye Lieutenant... engineering is a team effort tae be sure." He half turned and surveyed the crew working in the room. Raising his voice so all could hear, he spoke to the working engineers. "A hard working bunch ye are... and a braw team indeed! Keep up the good work ye lot! Drinks are on me when we stand down from red alert!" Bob tapped a few commands into the console in front of him, running yet another level 4 diagnostic on the tactical power systems. ~Ah wonder how many o' us will be left after this fight?~ He shook that off and focused on the work in front of him. He did manage to spare al-Sharif a sideways glance as he worked. "Ye hae indeed built a fine team here Lieutenant... they'll gie ye thier very best when the time comes, as they hae all along." He turned his full attention back to the diagnostic, sparing only enough thought to wonder just how many drinks would be in that round... and where they might drink them... (Reply Any) (Posted by Russ) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - OPS Lt (jg) Donald Johnson - 1415) Five days since the great Ice Cream Catastrophe of 2407. Four days since the girls had left with Mei Ling. Three days since Donald broke most of the eggs he had saved by accident, forcing him to bake a shuttle full of cookies. Two days since he nearly spilled a whole canister of milk, he had saved from Nanny and just one day since he realized he had only one pound of cheese left. A sad day indeed. And now it seemed a whole galaxy apart from where they had been just a scant two weeks ago. Now they were in Sol and were getting ready to see if Tellarites could fly. He looked over his shoulder to look at his two assistants being diligent at their stations. He quickly scanned the rest of the bridge crew, some so young, he couldn't believe they were serving on a shiip. Others, like himself, a bit more mature, but wondering themselves how things had come to this. A couple years ago, it would have been impossible to believe the Federation torn in two by anything. But it had come to pass. Now he did his duty, standing ready for the battle to begin. (reply Any) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) NRPG: Okay, well the tap turned into a bust. She was just trading recipes. Do they even do any vetting for that job? My gods, I can't believe I am actually missing him. Any luck? What about his apartment? No clues there? He didn't have much of a social life. Hmm... that might be a lead. Let's see. Come on, I don't think we have a lot of time. -USS Boudicca, NCC 49901 Star Trek: Freedom - http://www.startrekfreedom.com
