Raschen spoke to V'Shera as she advanced. "V'Shera! Take the rest of our people and cover their escape." The young human's voice was harsh and urgent. V'Shera did not have time to think of anything but obeying Lt Raschen's latest forceful command. "On it, Sir," V'Shera yelled as she side kicked a wounded weaponless Hur'q that was stupid enough to charge her. Her powerful kick caught the advancing Hur'q full in the chest with a devastating cracking snap. The force of V'Shera's kick would have killed anything but a Gorn instantly. Her powerful kick hadn't killed the Hur'q yet. Instead, it had sent the surprised Hur'q pin wheeling back 3.5 feet. Before the stupid bug monster could recover, V'Shera pivoted in its direction 35 degrees and disintegrated the Hur'q with her recalibrated phaser. "Security," V'Shera barked. "Cover our people until we can get of here." The furious combat intensified as V'Shera and the other tact-sec forces formed a loose barrier between the advancing Hur'q and the locations of Lt. Raschen, Cmdr. Caskie and Hunter Detron. Over the din of battle, V'Shera heard somebody yell about a transporter dampening field making any beam out impossible. That fact seemed to have surprised Lt. Raschen. That worried V'Shera because whoever had chirped acknowledgement to her earlier message about that must not have been Lt. Raschen. Raschen recovered from his apparent ignorance in a seeming heart beat. "Detron, V'Shera; I'll be right back; just hold'em off for a few seconds." "Done, Sir," V'Shera croaked hoarsely. Her other tact-secs acknowledged Raschen's order as well. At that point time all her forces switched their phasers to disintegrate. That meant the number of charges left in their weapons would drop drastically, but it also meant any Hur'q hit would instantly be gone. And they would only need to hold them off for a few seconds. ~Whatever trick you have up your sleeve Lt. Raschen, it had better be brilliant.~ "Raschen, V'Shera, Status!" bellowed Lt. Sullivan over the ruckus. "I have lost three people here but the seven of us are protecting the delegates. We are holding the line," shouted V'Shera. She fired her phaser at another charging Hur'q that promptly disintegrated. (Reply Lt. Raschen) "Tighten the perimeter, Chance. Have your men start activating their transport boosters." Hearing the order from Lt. Sullivan, V'Shera activated her booster disk she had been given earlier that she had fastened to her commbadge. (Reply Lt Raschen, Any Security personnel) Just as the Federation security had tightened their perimeter, the small band of hunters had drawn a figurative line in the sand halting the advance of the Hur'q temporarily. As V'shera's troops were getting low on their phaser packs, she was grateful the hunters stepped in to reinforce their defense perimeter. (Reply Hunters IYW) T'Larah used the reprieve the hunters gave them to send the security contingent home. "Chance, send your boys home, you too V'Shera," ordered Lt Sullivan. "V'Shera speaking. Tac-sec people under my command, activate your commbadges for immediate transport," V'Shera shouted. All six of her subordinates disappeared winking out quickly. (Reply Lt Raschen) "Chance do we have any spare inhibitors, for the Hunters, I'd hate for them to sacrifice themselves." (Reply Lt. Raschen) With one charge left in her phaser, V'Shera had a plan. She crouched behind a large tree that was almost completely denuded of branches. She activated her commbadge. "Lt. Sullivan, I have only one shot left in my phaser. I can set it to overload and fling it into the Hur'q. Requesting permission to beam out as I do that Sir." (Reply T'Larah Sullivan, Any) When V'Shera set her phaser to a five second overload, she flung it at a pair of approaching Hur'q bugs. Several things happened in the next moment simultaneously. Just as V'Shera felt the transporter beam surround her, she saw with satisfaction the two Hur'q explode with the phaser detonation. She also saw a larger Hur'q with a hand held blade leap over the Hunter's line and charge for Sullivan and Raschen. (Reply Any) (Posted by Jim) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Bridge, aCOPs, Ensign Smith, 1719.5*) Robert looked round as Salid entered the bridge. "Report, Mister Smith." Robert moved over to the command chair to give his report. ”Captain the Bastion has just been assaulted by Hur'q fighters. We believe that they used cloaked shuttles to get close enough to transport without us knowing. They have put up a transport inhibitor which is blocking our transporters at the moment.” Ahmed nodded. "Mister Bowman, run me a tactical scan of the Bastion. I want to know how many Hur'q are there. Notify our away team that there is a transport inhibitor in place and that we are working on it." he ordered the Tactical Officer. "Aye captain." "Mister Smith, get on the sensors, figure out what type of inhibitor is being used and find me a way to get past it. Notify mister Rosenbauer to have his team assemble in transporter room 2 and prepare to beam over to the Bastion as soon as possible." ”Yes Sir.” Robert hurried over to the Ops console and sat down. As the others began to follow the Captain’s orders Robert sent a message to Rosenbauer telling him to get a tactical team to transporter room 2 and also a message to sickbay to prepare for casualties. ~Okay lets take a look at this thing~ He brought up the data on the inhibitor. He looked at it as he began to filter it through the ships computer. The inhibitor worked on blocking the transporter signal so that it could not initialise at the other end. All he had to do was find a way around the block on wave length that the inhibitor did not work at or find a small gap which was always left so that the attackers were not affected as well. He looked at the information coming back to him from the computer. ~This is going to take longer then I thought damn~ He looked at it again. ~Okay lets split this up~ He got the computer to automatically search the inhibitor signal for gaps he manually scanned the signal data. He also sent the data down to the ops department. ~Hope fully some one will have a breakthrough soon~ (reply any) (posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester- Bastion - ATAC Ensign (jg) V'Shera – 1720.5) V'Shera's gambit had been to redirect the disgusting bugs' deadly attention away from the center of the Rose-Alliance delegate meeting and toward her team of now incensed and enraged Federation trained killers. V'Shera was gratified by the success of her diversionary tactics. The subsequent erupting from tact-sec phaser fire struck several clusters the invading Hur'q and killed or seriously maimed the remaining survivors hit. That tactic had worked even better after several of V'Shera's team mates had upped their phaser settings from Kill to Disintegrate. Seeing their fellow warriors go suddenly non-existent had caused many the surviving Hur'q to become momentarily confused and hesitant. It had taken them a moment to decide whether or not their fellow bugs had simply been beamed away or destroyed. Seizing that moment of hesitant opportunity, V'Shera and the other tact-secs charged the still flummoxed Hur'q. Screaming in a multitude of different but enraged Federation languages, V'Shera's crack troops laid down a writhing field of energy fire as they charged toward the remaing bestial, murdering Hur'q, Off to the right, she heard PO2 Rita Gonzalez screaming: "Die! Die, you crappy, dung sucking cockroaches!" Off to her right, V'Shera was surprised to hear the loud sizzle of a heavy Klingon disruptor being fired by a shrill, swearing female Andorian. Off in the far distance, V'Shera heard the loud explosion of an over loaded phaser suddenly self-destructing! Cursing in archaic gutter Vulcan and continuing to fire, V'Shera was surprised when the tricorder strapped over her shoulder suddenly 'beeped' warningly. Realizing that the alarmed beeping meant something significant had been detected, V'Shera had first ordered the rest of people onward and then dropped back momentarily to determine what the tricorder was trying to tell her. Dropping prone to minimize her targeting profile, V"Shera checked the beeping tricorder's screen and readings. As V'Shera started to read the Tricorder screen, her commbadge chirped. =/\=Caskie to away team. There's a transporter inhibitor here somewhere. Do what you can to find it and deactivate it.=/\= "Will do Sir," answered V'Shera. Her tricorder confirmed what Commander Caskie had just said. V'Shera was standing, moving and firing again. A moment after her tact-sec avengers entered into direct hand-to-claw combat with the inner circle of Hur'q, V'Shera entered to bloody fray herself. Artfully side stepping a swift and lethal Hur'q claw strike, V'Shera found herself close to Lt. Raschen who was adequately dealing with a big bug problem of his own. (Reply none) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester- Bastion- CSec- LT(jg) Chance Raschen - 1721.5*) T'Larah used the reprieve the hunters gave them to send the security contingent home. "Chance, send your boys home, you too V'Shera." Disgruntled, and his temper starting to flare-up; Chance glanced at the Vulcan for very brief moment after killing one bug before going after the next.. As he ran to help one of the hunters that was being overpowered he yelled back “I already gave the order to evac asap.!” The former privateer then turned toward Detron “Can you get your people out of here?” Dash smiled and shook his head. "No. Our ship does not have the power to beam us out of here during this kind of fire fight. However if your ship can, you should go. We will cover you. T'ren knows we will make such a fight of this that the Hur'q will surely think twice before attacking anyone ever again." "I wish you well Raschen. Tell your people not to be to eager to trust Jiyhala. She deals honestly, but she had her own agenda and her honesty is a two edged blade." Raschen looked at him then said “We may have to leave the dead behind; but the living will all escape.” Just then "Chance do we have any spare inhibitors, for the Hunters, I'd hate for them to sacrifice themselves." “Damn-it Lieutenant; I wasn’t expecting to invite company home when I handed them out!” he shouted as he stabbed a bug in two of its eyes after slashing his blades through the other four. (Reply Sullivan iyw) Once Chance was dropped by the bug and he got a moment to catch his breath during the battle “If we get the disks off of our dead L.T., what we have might be enough if we try to pair up; one hunter per Fed.” he started saying and then remembered his disk went with the XO back to the ship. “that is all but one or two.” Just as V'Shera beamed up, and as Raschen was speaking the larger Hur'q with the sword leaped over the Hunters line and charged straight for the pair of officers. (Reply Sullivan, Detron iyw) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester- Bastion - Ambassador - Ensign Anna Morgan - Day 3- 1722.5*) When the attack started, Ann had been caught completely unaware. She froze as thoughts of the last Hur'q raid flashed through her mind. --flashback- Stardate 2403.03.12- 0300 Anna stood in main engineering, sipping on a cup of coffee that she had replicated with her energy ration. Things had been rough, and the small luxury of a cup of coffee was an almost ecstatic reminder of what their life had been before they had ended up in this place. It had taken her months to save up enough energy from her ration allotment to afford the luxury of a cup of coffee. As it was, you had to a lot your rations carefully just to get enough to eat these days. Half the ship was on standby and the Deutrinium reserves were almost exhausted. She smelled the deep aroma of the coffee, inhaling it and allowing her to close her eyes for a few moments and remember what life had been like so long ago. She took a sip of her coffee, allowed the bitter sweet liquid to shift around in her mouth before swallowing it. She placed the cup on the edge console near her and regarded the display. The warp core was running at near minimal power output. They didn't have much Deutrinium left and Anna realized that it would only be a matter time now before the ship's power reserves were completely exhausted and the ship would die and it would take her crew with it. Commander X'rus wouldn't listen to reason it seemed, and the tensions among the crew were growing more pronounced each day. Since he had assumed command, after disposing of the captain, he had ruled this Epiphany crew with an iron hand. He had refused to trade with any of the others trapped here and he had allowed the ship to slowly degenerate until they were almost dead. She tapped a few commands into the console, to slow the feed of precious fuel even more. "Well that certainly smells delightful" a voice said behind her. Anna spun in her seat to see crewman yarrow standing there a PADD in his hand. She instinctively reached over and picked up her coffee, half afraid that Yarrow would take it from her. She just gave him a weak smile. Yarrow was the chief engineer, his reward for supporting the commander in his mutiny a couple of years ago. He gave her the creeps. "You know you could be drinking coffee a lot more frequently than once a month." he commented off-handedly. Anna just nodded, afraid to say anything. "You know what you have to do Anna." he continued. "You'd have unrestricted energy use, just like me. You could share mine, there are no limits to how much can be used in my quarters." he said smiling evilly. "How long since you've sat down to a full meal or taken a shower every day instead of once every two weeks?" "It's been a long while." Anna answered truthfully, still afraid to anger the man. "We could change that tonight." he said smiling. "We could have a full dinner, you could shower and we could have breakfast in the morning." It was all Anna could do to not be disgusted beyond belief. Here the ship was going to be dead within the next few weeks and Yarrow was trying to turn her into his personal harlot. Her smile faded from her face and she spoke without thinking, "Actually, I'd rather smell bad and go hungry." she replied. Yarrow's face took on a hard glare and he raised his hand to strike her, but stayed his hand. "You'll regret that decision. You'll come begging for help before the week is out." he replied, a cold tone in his voice. He swung his hand downward rapidly, striking the cup of coffee from her hand. The white glass cup spun from her hands, emptying the contents onto the deck, before slamming into the deck with a crescendo of shattering glass. "You dirty son-of-a..." Anna said as she shot her hand out and slapped him across the face with enough force to stagger him. Yarrow rebounded, catching himself with the console. He was better fed than she was, stronger and more energetic. He reached out with his left hand, grabbed her throat and forced her backwards against the console. He was chocking her, cutting off her air supply. She struggled to loosen his grip, growing weaker with each passing moment. She reached for his face, but he just leaned away from her. The world started to go dim as she realized that she was suffocating. Then there was a bizarre high-pitched whine. Then suddenly Yarrow slammed his body against her hard, He fell backwards pulling her down as he went. Anna struck her head on the deck and rolled over, even as the Hur'q raiding party moved to exit main engineering. Anna started to try to rise, to regain her feet, when a sharp pain pierced her back as a Hur'q drone stabbed here with a blade of some sort. A moment later Anna's world went black. -Present time- It was Caskie's voice that snapped her back to the present. Somehow in all the confusion, despite the fact that she was not aware of her own actions, Anna had managed to somehow take cover near Jennifer. "I'm sorry, I don't have a spare weapon to give you. Try to keep your head down and stay out of trouble." the commander said. Anna nodded and tried to make herself small enough to avoid notice. "No worries. " she replied calmly, still not quite clear what level of danger she was in. That changed a moment later when the tree next to her suddenly exploded, showering her with shards of wood. Everything after that was a blur. Caskie was screaming at someone and she was firing her phaser. Once of the Rosenante's security officers had slammed into the face of a large nearby stone, hurled there as a result of a powerful Hur'q blast. There was a moment of panic as Anna turned to see a large Hur'q bearing down on her and Caskie. The Commander fired a shot from her phaser and cut the legs out from under the giant insect. A thick gelatinous and disgusting smelling fluid splattered all over them and Anna clawed a blob of the nasty goop from her face. Caskie turned to face Anna again, and tossed her the hand phaser. The commander said something, which Anna didn't hear, although she grasped the meaning almost immediately. Caskie dropped down into a prone position and crawled forward towards the still twitching insect corpse. Caskie's movement did not go unnoticed by the enemy, however, two Hur'q drones turned their attention towards her as she broke cover. Anna although unpracticed, rose from behind the rock and shattered tree to take aim and fire the phaser she held in her right hand. The closest drone died as the beam disintegrated a good sized portion of it's thorax. The second one returned fire, his weapon blew a chunk of stone from the large red rock that Anna was crouched behind. She turned her phaser on him and destroyed the drone as he tried to scamper over the rock and attack them from above. Caskie suddenly returned and Anna almost fired on her in surprise. She was carrying a Hur'q weapon, which she immediately started inspecting. Suddenly there was another person with them. Anna recognized him as the security officer that was the lead for the Rosenante crew's arrival. He ripped the commander's commbadge off her uniform in a swift sudden movement, did something with it then replaced it. As he did so he activated it and ordered, "Rose, beam out as you lock on!" In a moment, Anna realized what was happening as Caskie dematerialized. Her eyes grew wide as she realized that she may well die here. (reply Raschen, any) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester - Bastion - 2O/CTAC - Lieutenant T'Larah Sullivan - 1723) “Damn-it Lieutenant; I wasn’t expecting to invite company home when I handed them out!” he shouted as he dispatched some more drones. "Perhaps you should have brought a few spares." she responded evenly. Chance was dealing with another drone and T'Larah was putting away her batons to get out her phaser when she noticed the largest of the Hur'q landing from a great leap and readying a blade to stab Chance in the back. "CHANCE LOOK OUT!" T'Larah's eyes widened and she dropped her phaser and ran at Chance and pushed him out of the way. Before she could move herself out of the way Nu'chei's blade found it's place in in her torso just beneath her ribs. She gasped in pain as the blade was withdrawn and she was kicked on top of Raschen. (Reply Raschen) Struggling to speak as green blood was pouring out of her. Her voice was barely a whisper. "Chance will you help me... find rest." she managed to say. She reached up and touched Chance's face with her blood drenched hand. She uttered one word before she attempted to join their minds. "Remember." (Reply none) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester - Bastion - Sub-Commander Nu'chei - 1725) The Sub-Commander watched as the hunters miraculously held a defensive line against his drones, and the Starfleet soft-bodies were escaping. ~Some times if you want something done correctly you have to do it yourself.~ he thought. Howling with pure rage Nu'chei powerfully leaped over the defensive line just as small explosion took out two drones that had managed to slip through the perimeter. ~Survival of the fittest, they weren't the most intelligent of drones.~ he mused. Finally arriving at the remaining Starfleet personnel, Nu'chei raised his weapon striking while the humanoids were busy dealing with his drones. (Reply Raschen, Sullivan) The female had interfered and pushed his target out of the way, but his blade found a home in her torso, certainly a fatal blow. He kicked down with one leg dislodging the female from his blade, pushing her on top of his original target, green ichor coated the blade surface now. He spun his blade around to strike down at both of them. "Sir, the Starfleet softies had found a way through our inhibitor." one of his drones announced, "We have to leave." he finished. Nu'chei howled in rage, his task had been completed but only adequately, he wanted perfection. "Fine, Nu'chei to the Hive, activate transport." he said activating his communicator and deactivating his inhibitor. Soon after the Starfleet back up arrived Nu'chei and half of the remaining Hur'q dissolved in a transporter beam. (Reply Rosenbaur, Starfleet Security, First Hunter) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester – Bastion – 30/CCOUNS Lt. (jg) Jon Nayati – 1725.5*) Jon's head snapped back from Lt. Raschen to Spirit Counselor Chaska again. He was appalled when he looked at her. Chaska's wide eyed gaze was still transfixed on the blasted ruin of her father's dead body. Worse, Chaska was totally oblivious to her surroundings. On NCRII such a state of oblivion would be instantly fatal. Now on the Bastion, death was about to befall the Sky Spirit Counselor as well. With their huge mandibles click-clacking and their mouths drooling with disgusting mucus, two huge Hur'q were slowly advancing on the transfixed Chaska. Though he couldn't read the insectoids' minds, Jon didn't need to. Lowering their sonic rifles meant that the slavering Hur'q were going to use claws and mandibles to make quick, bloody meat of the hapless, defenseless Chaska. ~A chief has died on my watch. I will not permit his daughter to suffer the same fate. The Chief's blood line must not end.~ Jon's higher gravity muscles cleared the distance between himself and the Hur'q in a single bound. Both Jon's feet struck the second Hur'q mid-stride and bowled it over. As a snowlyrin, Jon landed on his feet, firing his kill set phaser at the lead Hur'q, exploding its thorax mercilessly. The remaining Hur'q never lived long enough to stand. At point blank range, Jon's phaser caught the creature in the neck, separating its buggy head from its armored shoulders in a shower of gray chitin, green ichor and stringy muscle. It perished without a click or clack. Adrenaline made time move in slow motion for Jon. Finally Chaska started to turn, with a glimmering of awareness. Some of the other Hur'q were now aware of Jon's active menace. As they moved, Jon moved. Out of the corner of his right eye, Jon saw a bloody phaser pistol with a severed human hand gripping it. Scooping up the pistol, and discarding the hand in a single, fluid motion, Jon bounded to Chaska's side. "Chaska", Jon shouted. "If you don't snap out it, we'll both die!" (Reply Chaska) "We've got find better cover, now!" (Reply Chaska) Behind him, Jon heard a couple of Hur'q weapons preparing to fire. Jon saw a tree a just short sprint away. ~It was the best cover available, in desperate circumstances.~ Throwing Chaska over his shoulder like a light sack of potatoes, Jon side stepped away from where the Hur'q sonic blasts hit a second later. They reached cover seconds later. One Hur'q blast hit the tree, blowing the upper top away. Jon expected to die when he heard familiar phaser fire kill the advancing bugs. Jon shoved his phaser pistol into Chaska's hand and began speaking to her. "Chaska, you've got to wake up and help defend us both. Claim vengeance for your Father. Call upon your spirit of war." (Reply Chaska, Any) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Bridge, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 3 - 1727) The doors to the bridge slid open even as the Rosenante was coming to a stop at the position Ahmed had indicated. The Hur'q ship shifted away slightly, perhaps thinking that the range of the Rosenante was a precursor to an attack. And while it was clear that the Hur'q were a threat at present, Salid was not quite ready to throw down the glove and take them on head-to-head until he knew more of what he was facing. Caskie approached the center chair but did not take her seat. He turned to look at her. I've brought everyone with me that I could Sir. I assumed you would want a complete report of what happened." she said. "Yes, indeed, Commander. Give me the quick and dirty version. We may be fighting the Hur'q Mother ship at any time." he replied. (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Transporter Room 2 - SO - Ensign Mike Rosenbauer - Day 3- 1728) Mike waited anxiously on the transporter PADD for the go ahead to energize. He knew that every moment that they wasted waiting to be able to get to the scene of the firefight, more lives were lost. =^="Rose, beam out as you lock on!=^= Raschen's voice came across the commchannel with a sense of hurry. "Off the Pad now!" Mike ordered. His team didn't even hesitate, they were off the transporter platform. "Energizing!" the transporter chief announced and a half moment later, Jennifer and several members of her security team materialized on the platform. Caskie came off the platform like a woman with a mission. She carried something in her hands that Mike immediately recognized as one of the Hur'q weapons. Jennifer and her team quickly cleared the transporter platform and in a moment she handed him the weapon and was pulling her own commbadge from her uniform and slapping it onto mike's chest. She quickly explained the situation to him, including the means that they were able to be transported off the Bastion. In the following moments, she ordered her team to turn over their commbadges to Mike's people. Mike acknowledged all of Jennifer's orders. Once that was done, he led his team onto the transporter platform and looking at the transporter chief, ordered, "Energize." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester- Bastion- First Hunter - Detron Dash - Day 3 - 1730) Detron and his hunters had more or less drawn a line in the sand so to speak. 'This far and no more.' They had managed to forge a ring around most of the Starfleet personnel. A fairly weak one, but, given their weapons they were still managing to hold their own. Detron, hadn't actually lied to Raschen. The Ne'q would indeed find it hard to beam them up during this kind of fire fight, but if it abated somewhat, and if the last of the Ne'q's energy reserves held out it might be possible to beam most of them back. Detron however wasn't thinking about that at present. He was far too busy enjoying himself killing Hur'q. It made a nice change to see the bugs die for once and he was just about to contemplate charging them to disrupt their front line when he heard the sound of a transporter. Looking up he saw another squad of Federation personnel beam into the Bastion. He could hear Raschen shouting off to his side and he turned towards him and pitching his voice so that it would be heard he called to him. "Raschen, it looks like you have reinforcements. What do you think about pushing the Hur'q back towards them and they can start picking them off. I'd hate for them to come all the way over here and not get to join in the fun?" (Reply Raschen) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester- Bastion - SO - Ensign Mike Rosenbauer - Day 3- 1738) Mike and his team rematerialized amongst a swirling mess of chaos. Immediately Mike was dropping to his left knee, even as he brought his phaser rifle up to his shoulder. Before he had even completed the motion, St- Jean had fired striking one of the Hur'q dead center mass. The drone disintegrated Cooper and the others spread out to present a more unified firing front, catching some of the Hur'q from behind. It didn't take long however, before the insects realized what was happening and turned their attentions to the new arrivals. Mike's team was well trained, each of them veterans of the civil war. They took cover and returned fire to the best of their ability. The fact that there were a larger force of Hur'q than Starfleet never phased them.
