"Johnson, this needs to be repaired A-SAP, the shielding has cracked." she said, almost quietly. "It'll survive, if we don't get bounced around a whole bunch more- even so, keep the decon team ready and take it offline." She slid off her perch, so she could get a visual look at the top of the reactor, and slid her tricorder over herself. A string of curses went off, "Seal the area off however, there's enough leakage to make it dangerous. I'm hot." "Right Sir," a crewman said. There was a small decon area, made for just two people, off to one side. Working on the reactor often involved radiation exposure with little chance to set up a decon point every time. She grumbled as she stepped into it and began stripping off her clothing. Once that was done and her clothing stuffed into a container that could later be cleaned, blasts of deionized gas blew over her, stripping anything from her skin that could be radioactive. Her badge beeped not many moments later, =^=Salid to Martinovich, please report to the bridge.=^= Martinovich cursed, her badge was in the decon container, she'd have to get another once she was out of this blasted place. With her eyes tight closed against the gas, she turned slightly. "Crewman!" she said, not caring who she spoke to. "The Captain just called me to the bridge, get Morrow to go, and have him report to me once he's done. My compliments to the Captain, but I'm not walking up there nude and radioactive." "Yes sir," came a very muffled voice. The decon area was secure, and a curtain had been pulled over the window so she had no idea who answered. She sighed and turned back after the blast of cleaning solution had shut off. The stuff left a nasty taste in the mouth, and grabbed a small robe that was hanging over a chair. The decon process would take approximately fifteen minutes, so she sat in the chair and crossed her arms. A fifteen minute nap, that wouldn’t be bad. (reply: none, yet) (posted by Trout) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 3- 1644.6) Ahmed didn't have to wait very long before the door chimed and slid open to reveal the Vulcan Engineer. He looked up as T'Kron entered and approached his desk. "You wanted to speak to me Sir?" "Yes ensign, I did." the captain replied. Then added, "Computer, seal the door to the ready room." [Door sealed] He was not smiling, instead he regarded the Vulcan officer with the hardened eyes of a commanding officer who was about to move into discipline mode. "come to attention mister T'Kron," Ahmed ordered. He watched as the Vulcan officer complied. "You have a good service record, so I'm going to permit you an opportunity to explain yourself, rather than move forward with a general court-martial chapter 13, for failure to follow a lawful order as issued by a senior officer." He watched the Vulcan, whose stoic countenance never shifted. "I would like for you to explain to me, why it is you failed to report to the transporter room for the away mission as ordered by Commander Caskie. Your failure to appear could have caused a significant issue with our attempts to establish peaceful relations with the species in this area. We have no idea how our tardiness could have been taken. It could be a minor thing, or it could prove disastrous. As it is, I am certain that Commander Caskie will want to speak to you concerning this incident upon her return." "This discussion is underway, solely to determine if you have been remiss in your duties, to the point that further official disciplinary action should be taken as a consequence." He regarded the engineer again. "I will not broach any lack of discipline on this ship, so I hope and pray that you have a very valid reason for this occurrence. You now have permission to reply, mister T'Kron." (reply T'Kron) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Ready Room - ACEO Lt. T'Kron - Day 3 - 1644.7) The Captain regarded T'Kron with no small amount of sternness again. "I will not broach any lack of discipline on this ship, so I hope and pray that you have a very valid reason for this occurrence. You now have permission to reply, Mister T'Kron." "I was unaware that anyone had requested my presence Captain," replied T'Kron. "Was the request made by commbadge or voice message to a console or computer terminal, and at what time?" (Reply Ahmed ibn Salid) T'Kron nodded and went to the computer wall screen. "Computer, index the times for engineer repair logs by ACEO Ensign T'Kron for Stardate 2408.04.27. Display times and places of the repairs on the ready room wall screen." [Working] The repair logs indexed with locations and times appeared. Checking them against what Captain Salid had indicated, T'Kron saw the correct listing right away and indicated it to Captain Salid. "As you can see here Captain, I was repairing an EPS conduit in one of the Jeffries tubes. I experienced a short power surge. It threw myself and Crewman Arven against the opposite side of the tube. Though we were basically uninjured, it had damaged my commbadge. Apparently this happened just before Commander Caskie tried to contact me and before I was able to replace it." (Reply Ahmed ibn Salid) "If you like, I can have Crewman Arven give you his account for the record as well, Sir," said T'Kron. (Reply Ahmed ibn Salid) (Posted by Sheila) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 3- 1644.8) "I was unaware that anyone had requested my presence Captain," replied T'Kron. "Was the request made by commbadge or voice message to a console or computer terminal, and at what time?" Ahmed replied without delay, "The reply was sent by Commbadge at 1539 hours by Commander Caskie." T'Kron nodded and went to the computer wall screen. "Computer, index the times for engineering repair logs by ACEO Ensign T'Kron for Stardate 2408.04.27. Display times and places of the repairs on the ready room wall screen." [Working] Ahmed turned to regard the data that was being displayed. The repair logs indexed with locations and times appeared. Apparently this happened just before Commander Caskie tried to contact me and before I was able to replace it." Ahmed repaired the time's displayed on the monitor and pulled up a detailed power consumption and displacement log for the entire ship. He then correlated the logs and compared the numbers. There had indeed been a power spike in the indicated Jefferies tube just a moment or two prior to Caskie's commcall. The captain then pulled up the operations stores to see when the Ensign had replaced his commbadge. The log indicated that two commbadges had been replaced a few minutes after the discharge, one had been issued to ensign T'Kron, the other to Crewman Arven. "Well I'm glad it's something like this rather than a blatant disregard for Commander Caskie's Authority as First Officer. " Ahmed replied. "If you like, I can have Crewman Arven give you his account for the record as well, Sir," said T'Kron. Ahmed nodded. "not a bad idea, Mister T'Kron. Please have him make a statement in his engineering log." "Now that we have that cleared up, I'd like to have you on the away team to board the Epiphany. Lieutenant Morrow has been given a briefing and He'll be passing the orders to Lieutenant Martinovich. Speak to The CEO and see to it you make that away team on time and ready to work." (reply T'Kron) "That will be all mister T'Kron. You're dismissed." "Aye Sir," replied T'Kron. "That will be all Mister T'Kron. You're dismissed." T'Kron nodded calmly and turning he exited the Ready Room. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester - Bastion - FO - Lt Cmdr Caskie - Day 3 -1648.5*) "That is reasonable and expected, commander Caskie. I would have thought you a fool and your people doomed if you had accepted my demands, as one-sided as they were. Speak with your captain, I will grant you 48 of your standard hours to bring me a reply or a counter offer. In the meantime, I would encourage you to speak with those that you will be sharing the rest of your life with. It is important that you learn of your neighbors. Anna Morgan will remain here at speak to you about the Nechani, or about the history of the ship, or about the things that she misses from your world, as she sees fit to spend her time. I, however, must return to my ship and pray for further guidance." Josh watched the Haruspex leave and was just about to turn to Anna again when glancing over in the direction of Lt Jackson she noticed him motion that he needed to speak to her. Turning to Anna she apologised. "Excuse me Ensign Morgan. One of my away team requires my presence. I will just be a moment." Hurrying over to Jackson she asked him why he wanted to speak to her. Normally Josh would have simply called him over, but, to be honest, Josh wasn't entirely sure she trusted Ensign Morgan quite yet, so rather than make it obvious to her, Josh went to him. (Reply Jackson) "I see, thank you. Keep alert and see what else you can find out." (Reply Jackson iyw) Half way back to Ensign Morgan her comm badge vibrated on silent mode. =/\= V'Shera to Caskie. Position is compromised. I have located a concealed eavesdropping device 7.93 meters from your location. Device seems to have been here over two standard years. Do not reveal anything regarding Rose's operation. Awaiting further instructions. =/\= Activating her own badge in silent mode Josh contacted all of the away team. "Caskie to away team. Ensign V'Shera has found a listening device concealed here. Heads up everyone and stay on your toes. Mr Raschen make sure your team is covering all our supposed allies in this room and have them stay alert. The rest of you scan as much of this place as you can and see if there are any more 'bugs' here. Caskie out." (Reply away team) Finally, getting back to Ensign Morgan, she smiled at her by way of apology. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting Ensign, thank you for your patience. Perhaps now you might be able to tell me something of the Nechani and of this place." (Reply Anna) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester- Bastion- CSec- LT(jg) Chance Raschen - 1649.4*) As Caskie spoke to her counterparts from the other delegation; Raschen vigilantly remained close enough to Josh to be considered dangerous, yet stayed just far enough that he wasn’t considered a threat. Listening to the conversation, and ‘biting’ his tongue as he heard the ultimatum placed before them. Chance was peeved to say the least then he noticed crossing over to him, someone from the other delegation. Fortunately, the stranger did have the professional courtesy to make sure not to inhibit Raschen’s line of fire then introduced himself saying "Greetings, I am First Hunter Detron Dash of the Hunter ship N'eq." Upon hearing his counterpart’s words, Chance shifted his stance slightly to ‘size-up’ Detron and decided that if any of the Rosenante’s crew were attacked that Detron would be the first that he kill. Then remembering what his mother had once told him about keeping friends close and enemies closer, the former privateer smiled at the first hunter and said politely “Pleased to make your acquaintance; I am Security Chief Raschen.” Raschen held his right hand out as an invitation to shake hands with the First Hunter as he eased his left hand up under his jacket. (Reply Detron) (Reply Detron) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester- Bastion- First Hunter - Detron Dash - 1649.5) Detron watched as the human first sized him up and then introduced himself. “Pleased to make your acquaintance; I am Security Chief Raschen.” The man stuck his hand out at Detron in an odd gesture and seemed to expect something in return. Detron blinked and regarded him for a second or two and finally stuck his own hand out in front of him, not quite reaching his counterpart's hand. Suddenly he remembered an encounter with someone from the Epiphany and he smiled at Raschen and took his hand in his own. "You must excuse me I am not greatly familiar with this gesture, although, if I am correct you are showing me that you have no concealed weapon..." and here Dash's eyes briefly flicked towards Raschen's left hand tucked up under his jacket and he smiled widely, "... at least not in this hand anyway." (Reply Raschen, iyw) "Please believe me Security Chief Raschen, my people are no threat to you. In fact we would welcome any help you would be willing to give us and would be willing to share our technology with you, such as it is." (Reply Raschen, iyw) Before, we have been content to follow the Haruspex, since, given our situation we could do little else except die. However your arrival changes things greatly and it would be remiss of me not to at least attempt to take advantage of the situation for my people." Here Dash paused for a moment and looked around the room. "Especially since it is obvious that I am not the only member of the alliance doing so." (Reply Raschen, iyw) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester- Bastion- CSec- LT(jg) Chance Raschen - 1649.7) "You must excuse me I am not greatly familiar with this gesture, although, if I am correct you are showing me that you have no concealed weapon..." and here Dash's eyes briefly flicked towards Raschen's left hand tucked up under his jacket and he smiled widely, "... at least not in this hand anyway." The former privateer suddenly had a gut feeling that the Rose’s team was about to be caught in a trap. So tightening his grip Chance simply, calmly, and evenly said “Please understand, I am an untrusting soul First Hunter Detron; and very protective of my shipmates.” However, Raschen’s eyes were just as threatening as the alliance’s offer as he released the First Hunter’s hand. "Please believe me Security Chief Raschen, my people are no threat to you. In fact we would welcome any help you would be willing to give us and would be willing to share our technology with you, such as it is." The look in Chance’s eyes went from hostel to curious “Please, just call me Raschen. If you don’t mind me asking; if your technology is as great as you make it out to be, why do you stay; why not just leave? Before, we have been content to follow the Haruspex, since, given our situation we could do little else except die. However your arrival changes things greatly and it would be remiss of me not to at least attempt to take advantage of the situation for my people." Here Dash paused for a moment and looked around the room. "Especially since it is obvious that I am not the only member of the alliance doing so." Chance thought he might be starting to understand. It seemed to be a sort of timeline that started with ‘United we stand, divided we fall’ and went to ‘Absolute power corrupts absolutely’ and is currently at ‘You are either with us or against us’ (Reply Detron, iyw) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester - Bastion - COPS - Lt. Tom Jackson- Day 3 - 1650) Tom Jackson had much on his mind. Qamda, the Provost of the , indicated his faction's desire for an alliance. His offer seemed to be less risky and demanding than the one the Ji'yala had given to Lt Cmdr Caskie. AS things allowed the groups to intermingle a bit, Tom walked to where Josh Caskie was standing, deep in thought. "Commander, may I speak with you?" Tom asked Josh. (reply: Josh Caskie) "Commander, I have been approached by Qamda with an offer for an alliance" Tom related in a low, quiet voice. (reply: Josh IYW) Tom indicated very briefly what Qamda and he had discussed. Jackson had surreptitiously recorded the dialog on his tri-corder. "I have the complete conversation recorded" Tom added, patting his tricorder. He had taken a risk but figured it was worth it. He did not want to miss any details as information was pertinent. (reply Commander IYW) (posted by: Bill West) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester - Bastion - Ambassador Anna Morgan - Day 3 -1650.5) Anna watched as Caskie spoke to one of her personnel, and the finally returned to speak to her again. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting Ensign, thank you for your patience. Perhaps now you might be able to tell me something of the Nechani and of this place." Anna smiled and shook her head, much more relaxed now that the Haruspex was gone. "No problem commander." she replied, "I'm glad to get to speak to another human being after such a long time." She paused for a moment, before getting back to business. " Well what do you want to know. The Nechani are very religious. They pray to voices. There are three of them, Vigilance, Perseverance and Reason, that in turn are the trinity parts of the Voice of All knowledge. They live very structured and disciplined lives. Their entire culture seems to be based completely on the spoken words handed down by the sacred Voices. This particular group is on a pilgrimage and has been here roughly twenty years now. They were here when the Epiphany arrived." "As for this place, " she shrugged, "I don't know where to even begin. When the Epiphany arrived, we made contact with the same group that is here to day, and of course with the Hur'q in the customary manner." "We were fairly independent, trying hard to find a way out of here and to get home. But that all came to an end when the Hur'q raided us almost five years ago and killed almost everyone on board. The Nechani saved me, I'm the only survivor." "The Bastion was here in this ecological state before we arrived. The Nechani believe that it was established by other species that were here and gone long before they arrived. The soil is a result of the decomposition of the bodies of those that died a long time ago. I guess they used this area as a place to dispose of their dead. We figured that someone planted some plants and some one else introduced the various animals and insects that live here now." "The entire sphere and bastion is made of neutronium, which is impossible to cut through or transport through, so we were trapped here." She shrugged. (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester - Bastion - Spirit Counselor- Chaska Day 3 - 1651*) She was not disappointed when he turned and agreed to speak with her. Her heart nearly leapt from her chest as a rush of excitement flooded through her body. Nayati raised his hand in the Sky Spirit universal greeting of peace and prosperity. ~So he is of the native peoples.~ She thought and smiled, somehow thrilled to learn this piece of information. The Sky Spirits had long ago thought that the native peoples would suffer greatly and be driven to extinction by the predations of the other civilizations on their world. The fact that Nayati knew the sign that her people had taught the native humans so long ago, all but proved that they had survived and prospered. She smiled, very pleased. "I am honored that you sought me out, lovely daughter of noble Chief Nekawana. I look forward to your counsel. I have faith that there is much we can learn from each other, things that can benefit both our tribes." Chaska, returned the hand gesture, easily. "I have been watching you and wonder from which tribe you are descended. Are you of the Hopi or Pueblo peoples?" She asked. (reply Nayati) "You must tell me someday of your people's journey to the stars. I am certain there is much there to learn. Nayati, would you come and speak with my father? He is a wise man and good leader but I sometimes fear that his sight is narrowed by his honor. Perhaps you can speak to him in ways that his daughter can not and convince him that your people and mine should work together even if this alliance, which is so one-sided should fail." "There are great threats here to both our peoples. I would like that you would come to our camp and discuss the needs of your people with my father and ask him about the needs of his tribe. I am certain that we can resolve any differences between our people in a peaceful manner so that both sides benefit and grow closer in trust." (reply Nayati) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester – Bastion – 30/CCOUNS Lt. (jg) Jon Nayati - 1653) As the comely Chaska returned his universal peace sign Jon saw her smile warmly. His true sight saw Chaska's aura pulse with joy and excitement. He also sensed a vague feeling of relief on Chaska's part as well. Without the use of invasive telepathy, Jon could not tell precisely why Chaska was relieved. Maybe in the course of conversation she might reveal that knowledge. "I have been watching you and wonder from which tribe you are descended. Are you of the Hopi or Pueblo peoples?" Her question was clinical, but her manner was innocent and utterly charming. ~She is concerned about my ethnicity; how endearingly quaint.~ Looking at the Sky Spirit woman, who was possibly a maiden, Jon was struck by the paradox she presented to him. Chaska's ancestors, thousands of years removed , had visited Native American Indian Earth, influenced those cultures and returned to the stars, only to have Chaska's starship captured by the monolithic Harvester untold years ago. He suspected that being trapped in the monstrous Harvester made Chaska tribally wise and but naïve to the ways of the outer galaxy. Chaska reminded him of NCR II, prior to its discovery by Starfleet three decades ago. There would be much knowledge Chaska and he could exchange. "Chaska, my ancestors were of Hopi decent," explained Jon. "But my tribe has not been on Earth for three centuries. Instead we left Earth for the stars and due to a great misfortune, my people crash landed on a planet we called Necron Red II. We have only been involved with Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets for the last several decades." "You must tell me someday of your people's journey to the stars. I am certain there is much there to learn," said the lovely Chaska. "Nayati, would you come and speak with my father? He is a wise man and good leader but I sometimes fear that his sight is narrowed by his honor. Perhaps you can speak to him in ways that his daughter cannot and convince him that your people and mine should work together even if this alliance, which is so one-sided, should fail." "There are great threats here to both our peoples," she continued. "I would like that you would come to our camp and discuss the needs of your people with my father and ask him about the needs of his tribe. I am certain that we can resolve any differences between our people in a peaceful manner so that both sides benefit and grow closer in trust." Looking at Chaska's aura, Jon saw no signs of duplicity or animosity. "You are a wise woman among your people Chaska," said Jon. "I look forward to doing that, but I must obtain permission to do so from Captain Salid or Commander Caskie." (Reply Chaska) "Would you like to join me in asking Commander Caskie?" asked Jon. (Reply Chaska, Any) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester - Bastion - Spirit Counselor- Chaska Day 3 - 1654) "You are a wise woman among your people Chaska," said Jon. "I look forward to doing that, but I must obtain permission to do so from Captain Salid or Commander Caskie." Chaska blushed and replied, "If I am a wise woman, it is because I am my father's daughter. I am all that he has taught me to be and nothing more." "Would you like to join me in asking Commander Caskie?" asked Jon. "I would not wish to offend you, Nayati, but If I were to do so, it would dishonor my father. He is sworn to be an ally of Ji'yala's tribe and is bound by his word. However, there is nothing that prevents me from speaking to you, who are not the leader of your party, so that my words may be conveyed to your chief." She smiled at him again, hoping that he understood that she could not go against her father's wishes in this manner, yet hoping also that he would understand that He could go to her father even when her father could not come to the leaders of the new arrivals. (reply Nayati) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign T'Kron - Day 3 - 1658) Looking around the room, T'Kron saw Lt. Morrow and made his way over to him. Waiting politely until his fellow ACEO was free, he spoke, getting directly to the point. "Captain Salid wanted me to report to you about going on an away team to the Epiphany. What are the mission parameters and objectives?" (Reply Alimi Morrow, Any) (Posted by Sheila) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hur'q Drone Pod - Troop Compartment - Sub-Commander Nu'chei - 1701) Nu'chei took the Imperator's words to heart. "Do not fail me". He made the best ambush possible. All of his enemies were in the same place, and he would ensure that they were unaware of their arrival until it was far too late. Their shuttle would cloak their approach, and the Hur'q have the fastest matter transference device of all the gathered species. They would have suprise and firepower, an easy victory. ~This swift decisive blow will demoralize the groups scattering their 'pitifull little band' ensuring no effective resistance in the future.~ Nu'chei stepped up onto the command pulpit and began to speak. "Soldiers and drones of the Colony." he began his words resonating throughout the chamber. All conversations stopped, all eyes turned to him. "Today we go forth to strike a decisive blow against the soft-bodies. You all have been hand chosen.. ~more or less~ ..to be the will of the Queen and saviors of our Colony." Buzzing approval echoed through out the whole chamber, the Sub-Commander just lowered his hand to ease the crowd, and the crowd was silent. "Some of you will die, but not in vain. For our victory will ensure that we will conquer this machine and go forth to spread the Colony through out this galaxy and the next. May our young feast on the corpses of our enemies! FOR THE COLONY!" Buzzing applause sounded louder then before through out the entire Drone Pod. Nu'chei's mandibles clacked in delight. "Prepare your weapons, aim for known leaders, leave some to tell the story to the rest. We transport in five." Nu'chei ordered. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Main Engineering, ACEO, Alimi Morrow- Day 3- 1702) Alimi was waiting patiently for the CEO to finish with her decon, but he was not inactive. While they were in a holding pattern, he was running some scans of the partially stripped out Epiphany. The results were less than encouraging. There were entire sections of the ship's hull that was exposed to the vacuum within the bone yard, but there were some that would hold atmosphere if they could power the ship's environmental systems. That would turn out to be an entirely different set of problems. The Epiphany's Deutrinium supplies were long gone. Whether exhausted or salvaged was undetermined, and her reactor fuel was no where to be found. No doubt that would mean that the ship's emergency batteries were long drained and the ship, for all intents an purposes was a shadowy hulk of her former glory. The Captain had conveyed his wishes to Alimi, to see what could be salvaged, to figure out how to transfer the Navigational deflector from the Epiphany to the Rosenante and to retrieve the central computer logs. None of these things could be done without at least surveying the ship on-site and first hand. The fact that they'd heard nothing from a single member of the Epiphany's crew save for the ambassador made Alimi wonder if the ship was indeed a massive grave filled with the ship's crew, frozen until the end of time. Alimi didn't have much time to brood on the potential truths behind the fate of the Epiphany crew, because not long after he started that train of thought, lieutenant T'Kron caught his attention. "Captain Salid wanted me to report to you about going on an away team to the Epiphany. What are the mission parameters and objectives?" the Vulcan asked. Alimi shook his head and sighed, " The parameters are nothing less than damned near impossible." Alimi replied, then gave another sigh before continuing. "Sorry, The captain wants us to survey the Epiphany for salvage, specifically the salvage of the E's navigational deflector. He also wants us to retrieve the ship's logs, and if possible the ship's computer banks." Alimi shrugged, " Look at these scans, " he said and motioned to the display on his monitor. "It's bad enough that only some of the compartments might hold atmosphere, let alone the fact that we'll have to conduct all sorts of repairs just to be able to determine if the Nav array is salvageable. And then there's the refit and the transfer. I mean seriously, does the captain actually expect us to pull something like that off?" he asked the Vulcan engineer?" (reply T'Kron) Alimi took in a deep breath, held it for a moment, then exhaled slowly. "There's so much jumble and so many unknowns that I'm not even really sure where to begin. I'm supposed to brief the chief once she's out of Decon, but..." (reply T'Kron) "Exactly!" Alimi said with an excited nod. "At least you understand." (reply T'Kron) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester – Bastion – ATAC Ensign (jg) V'Shera 1713) With Lt. Commander Caskie notified of the Bastion site being compromised, V'Shera had next turned her attention to see if the discovered small spy device had any explosive potential. ~One molecule of anti-matter and one molecule of matter could make a horrendously big bang!~ To her profound relief, V'Shera's tricorder had revealed that cleverly hidden spy device posed no explosive threat. After that V'Shera had linked up with the tricorders' of the other nine tact-sec people scanning the Bastion's perimeter. Her logical aim had been To get an accurate picture of the spy net around the delegates meeting site. By the time her tricorder had processed all the mass scanned data, V'Shera had found a sensor net 1.7 kilometer in circumference around Commander Caskie's and the anti-Har'q alliance's location. As more correlated data came in, V'Shera had begun to experience a growing sense of illogical but increasingly targetable dread. She had tried to vanish the illogical feeling with standard Vulcan mind calming techniques but these had failed V'Shera in the end. After failing miserably, V'Shera decided to deal with her illogical dread through precaution, increased sensors and phaser fire, if necessary. ~Hopefully, killing wouldn't be necessary. Not again and not so soon?~ V'Shera withdrew her concealed hand phaser, changed the setting from heavy stun to kill and disengaged its safety. She replaced the charged and readied weapon on her belt. Then V'Shera adjusted the scan parameters of her tricorder any unusual changes in the Bastion's over all ecosystem. V'Shera had just transferred the newly sequenced tricorder to her off-hand, and was reaching for her phaser, when her sensor device registered major energy spikes dangerously close to anti-Har'q -Rose conference site.. Spinning around, V'Shera saw the strange lights and weird sounds she now recognized as Har'q transporter activity at the Alliance-Rose conference site! V'Shera was diving for vermillion stone cover when thirty vicious Har'q warriors materialized by the meeting negotiators. V'Shera was reaching for her charged phaser when the slaughter inside that circle began. Snapping off a quick kill shot, V'Shera slapped and screamed into her commbadge. "Security, kill the Har'q! Protect all the people in the center! Concentrate fire on clusters of Har'q, if at all possible. Try to draw their attention to us." "He is sworn to be an ally of Ji'yala's tribe and by his word. However, there is nothing that prevents me from speaking to you, who are not the leader of your party, so that my words may be conveyed to your chief." Chaska smiled again as she finished speaking. Jon saw hope in Chaska's aura and understood the innuendo in her words. "I understand your words and intent Spirit Counselor Chaska," Jon said reassuringly. "I would not dishonor your father and chief. If you excuse me Chaska, I would be happy to speak to your wise father." Jon was turning to locate Chief Nekawana when his danger sense went off the rector scale. There was a chorus of weird sounds and lights at the perimeter of delegates - and suddenly there was the angry click-clacking of Hur'q invaders! There were the sounds of surprise, swearing and energy weapons powering up. Then the inference blood bath began! It was a strange feeling to be sitting in that hallowed chair but as he relaxed he found that he might get use to it. "Ensign Smith." Robert looked over at the lieutenant who was working at the tactical console. "Yes Sir." Although he was in charge of the bridge the lieutenant was still he senior. "Can I show you something?" Robert moved over to the tactical console. "It’s the Hur'q hive ship. It moved into a aggressive position towards the bastion and from what I could tell a few hatched opened and then closed but apart from that, that is all that it has done.” Robert looked at the data and frowned. An alarming idea springing to mind. “What do you think it is Sir?” The lieutenant paused before answering. “The only thing would be a shuttle launch and quite a few.” Robert nodded as he came to the same conclusion. “If it was one what do you think it would be with in transport range?” The lieutenant made a few quick calculations. “If the bastion was the target then I would say about now.” ~Ow shit~ Just as he was about to say some thing the lieutenant called out. “Multiple transports onto the Bastion. We have Hur'q on the bastion. They have activated a transporter inhibitor.” ~This is not good we have people over there~ “Captain to the bridge. Red Alert.” The red alert klaxon began to scream. Nu'chei activated a transport inhibitor. ~This should hold them here for a while.~ he thought gleefully. The drones and soldiers descended like a plague of locusts. They encountered the Starfleet security and the hunters first as they were the most vigilant. Nu'chei leveled his directed energy weapon up to his right side looking through the reticule with those three eyes and aimed at his target the Sky Spirit Chief. The resonator locked on the frequency of his head, and beeped when it was ready. Hearing the buzzing tone he was waiting for, he depressed the firing stud. Sonic energy rippled the very air as death sped towards him at 343 meters per second. Clearing the distance in half an instant the Venerable leaders head bursted open like an over-ripe melon. Sending a liquid red paint on any body with in a meter. (Reply Chaska, any) Nu'chei clicked his mandibles in delight satisfied at that bit of chaos. The chief had been a thorn in his side for far too long. He let the resonator fall to his side hanging by the sling hooked to his layered laminar armor. He pulled out a nine tenths of a meter long bladed weapon and walked up to the the closest enemy he could find a mustard collared human stabbing the blade through the fourth intercostal space and out the back of his in-efficient endoskeleton. The weak being coughed up blood with his last breath. Nu'chei kicked the twitching body off the blade with a forceful kick, the blade was now a slick crimson hue. "FOR THE COLONY!" he screamed sending out pheromones to intimidate their foes and whip his minions into a frenzy. His minions echoed his call in a thunderous buzzing. Searching for more of the leaders Nu'chei used his olfactory gland on a small bit of air. He caught wind of one of the hunters he ordered soldiers to dispatch him. (Reply Hunters) A Starfleet member had gotten through his minions and brought his phaser rifle to bare on him. Nu'chei hip-fired his resonator, which knocked the weapon out of his hand. The field marshal clacked his mandibles in joy when the blue skinned warrior drew a knife-like weapon and charged. He caught the knife's jab with a deft parry, knocked it to the side, swung around and cleaved through a good two-thirds of the beings neck. Viscous blue fluid bubbled and spurted out as the Andorian dropped to the ground clutching his neck. Nu'chei stepped up and drove one of his spiked heels into the being's soft abdomen finishing him off. He caught wind of another Alpha type, a human. He saw a broad shouldered man standing and giving orders to the yellow collared ones, his scent reeked of confidence in a firefight. ~He must be the Human leader.~ he thought and worked his way to the man. With in one moment members of the security team and the Alliance were being cut down like yard weeds. T'Larah's jaw dropped and her eyes went wide for a moment at the horrible spectacle. She composed herself, and brought her phaser rifle up to the high ready took aim and fired at one of the Hur'q drones which promptly disintegrated into nothingness. She swung around and let loose a controlled pair of shots dispatching two more. She turned around to check her flank and one drone had managed to get close enough that she couldn't bring her rifle up. It grabbed her rifle at the barrel an wrested it out of her grip. It jabbed at her with it's clawed hands. She ducked under the strikes and drew both of her batons from behind her back. She followed up with a quick succession of strikes to it's leg, abdomen, forearm and finished with a carapace cracking blow to it's head. The drone fell to the ground twitching. Finding a break in the assault, T'Larah took assessment of the situation, Chance and V'Shara were dealing well, Chance had already coordinated with the Hunters and V'Shara had helped him coordinate the Rose's security forces. Ducking a second deadly sonic beam blast, Jon saw another monstrous Har'q preparing to murder Chaska in enraged fury. An NCRII barb knife shot from Jon's hand at blinding speed. Its target was the Chaska menacing Har'q's large, multi-facetted eye. In the past, Jon had brought down several NCRII ice flukes and dire slugs with barb knives. This hulking Har'q was no exception. The sharpened exothermal blade embedded itself in the Har'q wet brain. Instantly, the warm liquid in the Har'q brain reacted with the catalytic elements in the crystal blade. A second later the embedded barb blade exploded into dozens of sharp shards inside the Har'q's huge head. Dropping to his knees he began firing at the Hur'q between his people, taking out as many as he could and deflecting their shots by way of his wristbands. His own people were equally effective at taking out the Hur'q with their weapons and seemed eager to do so since when the Hur'q attacked their ship they were powerless, but fighting one on one Dash knew that they had at least an equal chance since their weapons were equally as effective. Dash heard Raschen shout for cover and he nodded. Watching the man sprint towards his leader Dash instructed his squad to lay down covering fire for him. Seeing him reach his target and start to return Dash ordered more covering fire to allow him to get back. When he did he immediately spoke to Dash again. “Can you get your people out of here?” Dash smiled and shook his head. "No. Our ship does not have the power to beam us out of here during this kind of fire fight. However if your ship can, you should go. We will cover you. He didn't recognize any of the ship types that he was seeing, and most were not much larger than the Rosenante. They obviously represented a long cross section of history where this place was concerned, and Ahmed wondered which of the floating tombs was the first to fall victim to the Harvester. It was a daunting view, seeing the skeletons and slowly decaying remains of the ships within this massive spherical prison and knowing that some of them had been here longer than he had been alive. There was a permanent sense of dread that came with the view; a deep seated worry that they would never escape this place and that they would become another blip on the history books. He and his ship could very well become just another statistic listed in the pages of missing ship's registries. It was daunting but not impossible to reckon that they had a serious challenge on their hands. The chamber in which they had been entrapped was made of a material impervious to federation technology, weapons or scanners. The hulks proved that none of the hundreds of ship's here had any ability to free themselves, which firmly indicated that the odds of the rosenante's escape were extremely slim as well. What could Ahmed do to guarantee that his ship and crew not only escaped this vessel, but also survive the ship's attack that was certain to come once they had escaped? That was the question that was burning in the mind of the captain even as he realized that so many other species had tried and failed to come to some answer just as he did. ~Did the captain of the Epiphany stand in his ready room asking himself the same question?~ Ahmed wondered. ~Did he feel the same sense of hopelessness that Ahmed did?~ These were the two questions that were buzzing around in Ahmed's head when the ready room communications panel chirped followed immediately by the red alert klaxon. =^=Captain to the bridge. "Mister Smith, get on the sensors, figure out what type of inhibitor is being used and find me a way to get past it. Notify mister Rosenbauer to have his team assemble in transporter room 2 and prepare to beam over to the Bastion as soon as possible." Barreling in to Anna she knocked her off her feet and behind the nearest cover. Grabbing her phaser and setting it to disintegrate she began taking pot shots at any bug she had a clear shot at. Suddenly her comm badge chirped. =/\= Rosenante to Caskie, I'm detecting a transport inhibitor in your immediate vicinity, although I can not pin point it. Sticking her head back above her cover she immediately ducked back down again as the tree beside her exploded into tiny shards and Josh winced as at least half of them hit her and embedded themselves all down her left side. Popping her head up once more Josh was dismayed to see that various members of her team had been taken out and as she watched she saw Nekawana battle and kill one of the Hur'q only a moment later to be killed himself. Turning round to look behind her Josh saw one of the Hur'q bearing down on her and raising his weapon to fire. Everything went into slow motion around Josh as she raised her weapon in response. "Oh no, you skelly eyed son of a cockroach. No way are you taking me down." Josh took a deep breath and fired her weapon. Normally it would have looked like Josh had missed somewhat since she hit the bug low on the left side and watched grinning as that side disappeared to leave the other side to fall over towards her, unfortunately near enough to splash her with some of the most disgusting smelling ichor that she had come across in all her time as a coroner. Turning to Anna she tossed her the phaser and mouthed 'Cover me'. Dropping prone she crawled toward the bug she had just hit and as soon as she was near enough, made a long arm and snagged it's weapon. Crawling backwards and trying to watch all around her she made her way back to Anna and propping herself upright began looking over the weapon. She had almost figured it out when someone ripped off her comm badge. Just about to shoot whoever it was she stopped when she realised that it was Lt Raschen. He spoke to the Rose as he slapped her badge back on to her uniform. “Rose, beam out as you lock on!”. Bano'Kar clicked his mandibles together in excitement and took aim at a peculiar looking pink colored soft shell, that was crouched down behind a large stone firing at the Hur'q assault team. The drone, raised his resonator, sounded the tone through his carapace and watched as the amplified sound waves slammed into the massive stone shattering it in an instant. The pink skin was thrown backwards and must surely be dead, and so the Drone warrior turned to further the goals of the colony, and searched for a more suitable target for his weapon next. He found her easily enough. The woman was the daughter of the slain chief. She was standing and grieving over the death of her father. The Hur'q drone praised his good fortune, since a grieving soft skin was easy pray and raised his weapon. As he sounded the tone for the resonator, something hit him, a shockwave from another resonator that had struck a nearby tree. Bano'Kar's own shot went wide and destroyed a useless piece of foliage as well and he cursed under his breath, thinking that now the female soft skin would certainly flee in terror and make his job that much more difficult. He was surprised however when she continued to stand grieving rather than fleeing. With a happy click of the mandibles, he raised his weapon and prepared to finish her off. Several security people were caught in the thick of things, but Chaska who had not been in any sort of Hur'q raid of this nature froze for a moment where she stood, looking towards her father. The elder chief, seemed to come to life as the sound of battle reached him and his warrior instincts seemed to be reborn as he straightened his back and started scanning the scene immediately around him. A Hur'q warrior charged out of the underbrush towards him, but Nekawana was a warrior of the old ways. He broke forward into a sprint and with a war cry, fell upon the Hur'q drone, knocking him to the ground. In a moment, they were both back on their feet. The Hur'q drone brandishing his four arms, each tipped with a hardened spike and the Miakoda chief, bearing a wickedly curved blade made of the finest steel on an animal antler handle. The Hur'q drone moved first, swiping wide with two of his four spiked appendages. Her father dodged the attacks easily and counter struck with the point of his blade. The steel point easily found the soft joints in the drone's exoskeleton and after three swift strikes that pierced vital organs, the drone collapsed in a spasmodic mass of jerking twitching agony. Nekawana turned and saw his daughter standing in the middle of the clearing. He lowered his weapon, held out his free hand and motioned to her to come to him. Chaska nodded and started across the clearing, no longer afraid of the chaos that swirled around her. She was just a few feet away from her father's strong arms when suddenly her entire world changed. She watched in horror as her fathers once proud face disintegrated into a pulpy mass of shattered flesh and bone. His body went slack, even as she was reaching out to take his hand. Their finger tips touched for a brief moment, but her father's hand was torn from her as gravity claimed his now dead body. She froze, terror spreading across her face and transforming her fear into grief. She let out a wail that reverberated from the metal walls of the bastion. Her grief beginning to consume her. A blast of high-powered energy slammed into a small tree nearby, striking her with shards of shattered wood fragments. She did not look familiar and she wore clothing that he did not recognize, so he assumed that she was one of the new arrivals to the Harvester. Her function was unimportant. He didn't know if she was important or not and he didn't care. He was only interested in seeing if her blood was of the same crimson as her clothing. He raised his weapon, and began to sound the tone that would soon turn the resonator into a wave of sound that would destroy the soft skinned female, so that he could brag about his conquests upon their return to the colony. (reply Caskie, Any) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Harvester - Bastion - Provost- Qamda- Day 3 - 1733) When everything had begun, Qamda had stepped back into the trees near the edge of the clearing. The Hur'q did not seem to pay him any attention, and so he spoke into his bracelet quietly. "Respond Cial" he said in a low tone. =^= Kavar here Provost. Are you well?=^= Qamda looked around him and noticed that he seemed to have been forgotten for the moment. "I am currently well." he replied, "There is a battle here, are you scanning the situation?" =^= We are provost=^= "Then you know that there will be suitable additions here?" he asked. =^= indeed, we are standing by to begin transporting the bodies for reclamation soon.=^= came the reply, =^= shall we begin as soon as we manage to get through the Hur'q inhibitor?=^= "Yes, and bring me aboard as well when able. I prefer to no longer be here, given the circumstances." =^= Very well provost. Cial signing off =^= The channel closed and Qamda regarded the slaughter that the Hur'q were reaping. There would be at least a dozen new Kobali by this time tomorrow thanks to their efforts. And if the process failed, they may gain at least a few new members of the crew, perhaps someone that had a knowledge of engineering, that could be used to aid in their repairs. Only time would tell.
