She saw that sickbay was filling up quickly. ~Might have problems with beds soon~ She spotted Dr Wyler caring for a child and quickly crossed over to her. She kept her voice low and calm as not to upset the child. “Excuse me, Dr Wyler I have the patient from Stellar Cartography. Head Nurse Fisher had been a legend amongst the nurses when Gita transferred onto the Rose, and to have her come back, and to be able to work with her, even if it wasn't under Dr Caskie, well the opportunity was too good to miss, and Gita was determined not to miss a minute of it. When the call came in for the patient with neurogenic shock Gita was almost beside herself with joy. She could hardly stop herself twitching and jumping up with her hand in the air saying, "Me please." but sadly Kitty's next words ended that hope. "Gita, sorry, looks like you get to go tidy up Mr Raschen. He needs to be back on the Bridge asap unless you decide he is not fit. Do what you can and if you need help just scream." As Gita watched Kitty and her team walk towards ICU Three her shoulders slumped. However turning back to the main Sickbay she sighed, squared them again, and went looking for Mr Raschen. After all taking care of someone who worked on the bridge must be far more important than looking after someone from Engineering, no matter how badly they were injured. With that thought to comfort her she found the biobed that Mr Raschen had been assigned to and hurried off to treat him with a smile on her face. As she crossed towards him her smile broadened when she found a blue eyed, blonde haired demi god sitting there. Ok, a demi god who was dripping blood onto the carpet at present, but a demi god none the less. Gita's smile turned into a grin and she promised that she would indeed pray to Ganesh tonight for Head Nurse Fisher, since she had just given Gita such a wonderful present. Stopping in front of him, she batted her eyelashes and smiled. "Mr Raschen. Head Nurse Fisher asked me to take care of you personally and make sure that we get you back to the Bridge as soon as possible. I am Nurse Rampradesh, but..." and here Gita batted her eyelashes at him again.. "you can call me Gita." (Reply Raschen iyw.) "That looks nasty. Let me clean it up first and then see what we have." Finally, after cleaning up the wound Gita realised that it would need more than her ministrations to close it so calling for the nearest doctor she had him close up the wound and as he shot off to his next patient, Gita lingered over giving her patient his final check. "Well Mr Raschen, you seen fine now and I can send you back on duty now if that is what you want. However, if you have any problems, any problems at all then don't hesitate to call on me. My name is Gita, Gita Rampradesh." (Reply Raschen iyw) "Now, if you experience any ill effects, sickness, dizzyness, anything. Do not hesitate to come back to Sickbay. Since this is something we would need to know about. Other than that, you should be fine. But as far as I and the doctor are concerned you are free to resume your duties." Head Nurse Fisher asked me to take care of you personally and make sure that we get you back to the Bridge as soon as possible. I am Nurse Rampradesh, but..." and here Gita batted her eyelashes at him again.. "you can call me Gita." Chance couldn’t help but to smile warmly at the lovely nurse “Very pleased to make your acquaintance Gita; I’m Chance.” he said. As he reached out to shake her hand; he accidentally jarred his broken arm. Gritting his teeth, Chance grunted in pain and cursed under his breath. "That looks nasty. Let me clean it up first and then see what we have." After cleaning up his broken arm, Gita seemed to act like his arm would need more than the ministrations she had to offer to close it. So after calling for the nearest doctor, she had him close up Raschen’s wound. After the doctor shot off to his next patient, Chance was kind-of turned on when Gita lingered over, giving her patient his final check. "Well Mr Raschen, you seen fine now and I can send you back on duty now if that is what you want. However, if you have any problems, any problems at all then don't hesitate to call on me. Other than that, you should be fine. But as far as I and the doctor are concerned you are free to resume your duties." “Thank you again Gita” Chance was saying as he got up off the bio-bed and started heading for the door “I hope to see you again under better circumstances.” (Reply none) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Bridge – ATAC Ensign V'Shera – 1007) V'Shera had been very busy since she had assumed the Tactical Station. The news she got from the various security teams that had been assigned to locate injured crewmen had indicated that several dozen crew had sustained varying degrees of damage. Fortunately the loss of life was confined to only two so far. The low body count was due to the sound flight decision by Captain Salid and Counselor Nayati, combined with the superb piloting skill of the Skor helmsmen Dralar. From her command console V'Shera caught snatches of conversation between Counselor Nayati and the Med and Ops teams assigned to him to find injured Rose civilians. V'Shera was relieved that Nayati was having as much mission success as her. She was also struck by the fact that, for a non-Vulcan, Counselor Nayati also had a very logical and efficient mind. V'Shera found herself respecting the short, curiously red officer that was currently yoked together with her on their mission of common rescue and mercy. V'Shera found herself wanting to learn more about her new third officer. The closer interactions she had with her fellow crew at the recent holodeck pool party had been quite enjoyable. Why not repeat that experience again? ~I could seek Counselor Nayati out, after we have worked through this particular disaster,~ V'Shera thought to herself as ACSO Dorian Weaver reported to Captain Salid. He then sat down beside her and said, "Sir, I sent a database to Lt. Raschen's console, thinking that he was in charge of Tactical for the moment. To make it short, it explores the possibility that this event had a deliberate cause, and was not random in nature. I thought you'd like to consider that possibility." V'Shera's strong, nimble fingers danced over the sensor keys of the Tactical station's data retrieval section. As she pulled up the file Ensign Weaver had sent her, V'Shera replied, "Since the phenomena has only just occurred, we can't rule out any possibility at this time. However, given the incredible power of the wave, it is clearly beyond the weapon's scope of those space faring races known to Starfleet." Mister Nayati, you're with me. You have the Bridge Mister Caskie." “Aye Sir.” Robert looked back as his console. ~Lets see what’s going on with the civvies~ He minimised the ops screens and brought up a new interface. He brought up a deck plan of the ship and instructed to the computer to identify all the members of the crew. He then split the markers into different colours so that he could tell which department they were. ~Okay lets get this organised~ He went to work tracking down all the civilian crewmembers. He was relieved to see that most of them had gone to their red alert shelters. Others were moving to the shelters and there was also a few in sickbay. As he did a deck by deck sweep he saw that there were a couple of pockets civilians that had not made it to any shelters. ~Lets get these people to safety~ He looked at the deck plan. ~Team X-ray Bravo One is the closest. Lets get them to swing by and pick them up~ He copied the co-ordinates and sent them to the X-ray Bravo One. As he watched and yellow dots changed their heading moved towards the first group of civilians. ~Okay that one is sorted lets see what else I can do~ An icon flashed on his screen. There had been a call to medical from a civilian he scrawled through the deck plans to see what would be the quickest route from sickbay. ~Looks clear can’t see anything that might disrupt them~ He kept a close eye on the progress of the medical teams as he carried on working (reply any) (posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Deck 1, Bridge – aCSO Ensign Dorian Weaver – 1008.5) "Since the phenomena has only just occurred, we can't rule out any possibility at this time. "Whether or not the gravimetric wave is an extra ordinary powerful natural phenomena or an extra ordinary physical science, our primary task is figure how to survive another wave front. Whether the effect is natural or technological, it seems far too powerful for the Rosenante to stand another assault." "If the wave front is a natural occurrence, it is my opinion it constitutes less of a threat than if there is some unknown and highly sophiscated intelligent mind behind it. Before you arrived on the bridge, Mr. Weaver, the Rose was slowly moving to investigate an unusual spatial anomaly of which 3O Lt. Nayati apprised Captain Salid. As we drew relatively closer to Mr. Nayarit's distortion, we were unexpectedly hit by the tremendous gravimetric wave. After basic survival, our next task might be to determine the point of origin of the wave itself. Did the wave originate from Mr. Nayarit's spatial disturbance or elsewhere in the Nursery?" V'Shera asked her logical question with cool firmness. Ensign Doran Weaver responded with forthright honesty. "Before we got slapped," Mr. Weaver said, "Ensign Maddox had been able to pinpoint with a fair degree of accuracy the origin, or epicenter, of the wave. The coordinates ought to be in the data I had sent to the Tactical station. I'll resend it for you. It appears to be in the general vicinity of Mr. Nayati's designated spot. You can judge for yourself." "Thank you Mr. Weaver," V'Shera said her strong, steely fingers again flying over the TAC station console. Using her collative and analytical skills, V'Shera ran a scan to determine the exact identity and nature of the Interstellar force that had smacked the Rose like an insignificant insect. After going over the derived data in her head, V'Shera deftly touched conference button on the tact console so the ship's computer could give its analysis verbally [The point of origin of the gravimetric wave that struck the Rosenante was a spatial disturbance this ship investigated. That disturbance was a subspace bubble 304,235 miles in circumference and was 2.33 light years away from our position. Subspace bubbles are fragile naturally occurring anomalies that only survive until their intense inner gravities cause them to rupture. Once ruptured, their contained energies explode out in a destructive shock wave. The gravity wave that hit Rosenante was equal to seven photon torpedoes. Only the distance and effectiveness of our deflector shields saved the ship from destruction. Current astrophysical data indicates there are no other subspace bubbles in the Nursery at this time. The casualty report was slowly taking shape - several mid to serious injuries, lots of cuts, scrapes and abrasions as well as some broken limbs. The bridge was smelling of burnt circuits and frayed connections. S7systems were slowly coming back on line. The FO had done well as a new command officer. Tom wondered idly if he;d ever get to sit in the center chair one day. When things were quiet, he'd approach the CO and FO about Bridge qualification. NRPG: Lol Hint, Hint RPG: Jackson listened as Ensigns V'Shera and Weaver discussed the force that hit the Rose. The wave was massive and V'Shera raised an excellent question - whether the Rosenante could withstand further strikes. Tom reviewed the data he had access to and decided that unless they could determine the likelihood of another strike and get repairs made, he was of the opinion they might be wise to withdraw until the repairs were completed. Tom spoke up saying "It is my opinion that unless we can determine the likelihood of of additional strikes and current repairs are completed, with Engineering's concurrence, it would be wise to withdraw." The sleeve was soaked with sweat and blood, though her forehead and long since stopped bleeding from the moderate cut she’d gotten above the temple. “No, NO!” she said as the levels bounced again. “G’D*mmit, Rodriguez, I said hold the flow STEADY!” A protesting voice floated from the open space that she’d stuffed her small body into, something about power spikes. She grabbed her tricorder and ran it over the jury-rigged repairs she had been working on and cut him off mid-stride. “I don’t care, watch I and do it, or I’ll end up flash toasted under here!” Without warning, a woman’s head popped down at the level of her knees, which was about the only thing showing under the small work area she’d taken up. “We’ve coded a line through the computer to the bridge. Ship-wide communications are still down, but we can relay messages now.” “Good,” she grunted as she dropped the tricorder and grabbed an ODN Coupler. “Engineering to bridge, you’ll know we’ve overcome our interference difficulties by jury-rigging a line directly to you if you can hear this message.” (reply: Bridge) The reply was filled with static, but it was understandable. Her resulting grin was predatory as she gave a quick thumbs-up to the technician who’d gave her the news. She started running the coupler over the ODN ports. “Engineering is a right mess Bridge. Navigational Shields are a mess. The tactical shield generators are fine, but we’re having troubles getting them enough power, we lost a lot of EPS conduits over there. We can’t power up full shields under this plasma mess without load overbalance and cascade failure… we’re working on that top priority.” She broke off and cursed as the power took another spike, this time she only had to growl ‘Rod-Ri-Guez” before the power smoothed out again. She’d almost forgotten the line to the bridge, until she heard voices over the combadge. ~Oh, yeah.~ “Whatever happened up there smacked our rump around and threw a lot of our carefully calibrated systems off…” She was about to continue when the computer suddenly broadcast a ship-wide message, at least to those locations where communications were still working… [Deflector Shield Failure. Lethal Radiation Levels. Fatal Exposure in 49 Minutes.] ~uh oh.~ “Bridge, let me get back to you, I’ll keep you updated. Engineering out.” She crawled out of her work-space and looked around. A few of her engineers were looking up at the sky, as if to say ‘Why me, God?`. The rest were working, perhaps more diligently. She had to admit, that error message made her all the more willing to get the work done in a hurry… say, within the next 48 minutes? “Do we have enough power rerouted yet to bring the shields up, at least to 25%, and prevent a cascade failure?” Their tactical shields were strong, they didn’t have to have them up at full power to block the bulk of radiation. If they could cut it down by a significant margin, then medical could release some radiation fighting drugs until such time as they could get their shields over 50%- which was usually enough to fight any level of radiation (if not the plasma storms). “Not yet Chief,” her weapons systems analyst said. “If we bring them up now we’ll blow out shield generators all over the ventral side, not to mention half the jury-rigged EPS patches we’ve put in place. We’d have total shield collapse thirty-four… maybe thirty-five… seconds after we started ‘em up.” “Right, that solves that. Listen up people, the EPS and Shielding systems are top priority for the next thirty five minutes. After that, I don’t think any of us will give a damn anymore. Get to it, I want those shields up to at least 30% in twenty five minutes!” she wiped the sweat off her forehead again, unconsciously, “Now we really are fighting for our lives… as if we weren’t before.” (reply: any) (posted by trout) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - FO - Lt Cmdr Josh Caskie - 1034) Josh was still fretting about Engineering when the comm sputtered, squeaked and then gave an ear piercing shriek and finally the CEO's voice came through. =^= Engineering to bridge, you’ll know we’ve overcome our interference difficulties by jury-rigging a line directly to you if you can hear this message. =^= Grinning, Josh replied. Josh breathed a sigh of relief to have the Captain back on the bridge and as he sat down next to her and asked for an update she marshaled her thoughts. I have ordered him to keep an eye on the area of space that the wave came from and to use his discretion to move us again as needed." Ahmed nodded, and quickly glanced down at his command display. The situation could only get worse, the longer that they waited in the nebula. the radiation was the entirety of the cloud of irradiated gas that surrounded them. "Mr. Weaver also came up with a way to disperse any other of these waves we may encounter. However, since it involved input from Engineering and I had not yet heard from them I tabled it for later." Caskie them went on to explain the plan that weaver had come up with, suggesting that it be considered once their current situation had stabilized. "Any idea what may have caused this in the first place?" he asked to no one in particular. In response, V'Shera activated the verbal relay from the ship's computer which spit out a report. [The point of origin of the gravimetric wave that struck the Rosenante was a spatial disturbance this ship investigated. Report ends.] "However," V'Shera continued, "the question we need to ask ourselves is the Rose ship in good enough repair to remain here?" Although Ahmed realized that the Vulcan was probably talking to Weaver, the CO found himself in agreement with the assessment. Tom spoke up saying "It is my opinion that unless we can determine the likelihood of additional strikes and current repairs are completed, with Engineering's concurrence, it would be wise to withdraw. I wonder if this is some type of new weapon?" "I think for the moment, the most likely answer is that it was a natural phenomenon." Ahmed replied then added, "Mister Jackson and Mister Smith, Focus every effort you have to aiding engineering keep our shields up. Do what you can to stabilize the power flow and maintain our impulse engines." (reply Jackson, Smith) "Mister Dralar, bring us back to the safe zone; best possible impulse speed. I don't want to risk a plasma flash with the warp drive. Adjust your speed and course as needed, you have roughly 30 minutes remaining, before we reach lethal radiation levels." "Yes captain." Dralar replied. Ahmed watched as the ship swung around, slowly rotating on it's vertical axis. The turbo lift doors slid open and Nayati stepped onto the bridge. "I found Chief Engineer Martinovich. She had suffered some abrasions but was still functional. She and her crew were quite busy repairing the damage to Main Engineering." "By the time I got there, they had managed to reconnect communications and I heard them give a report to the Bridge. With the bridge informed of the situation there was nothing for me to do but return here. I am sorry it took me so long to get there. On the positive side, you did not have to wait for a runner to inform you of the ship's current status." Jon added, "I hear the ship wide broadcast from the computer concerning imminent shield failure and fatal radiation exposure. If we are able to move the ship, can we move as far away from the source of radiation as we can?" "That is the consensus at this time Mister Nayati." Ahmed replied with a nod. He didn't want to look panicked, even though he felt that way, at least a little bit. =^=Sickbay to Bridge=^= "Go ahead Sickbay." (reply Weaver) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge – ATAC Ensign (jg) V'Shera - 1041) V'Shera listened as Captain Salid and the rest of the bridge crew heard and digested the ship computer report on the ruptured subspace bubble whose gravimetic wave had badly damaged the Rosenante. Various bridge crew members were weighing in on her question of whether or not the damaged Rose was still ship shape enough to remain in the stellar nursery. Counselor Nayati had urged to move away from the current site to reduce the risk of terminal radiation poisoning. Lt. Jackson still seemed to believe the devastating shockwave was some form of super weapon attack, despite the data he had heard from ship's computer. After a moment's consideration, Captain Salid ordered helmsmen Dralar to return the Rosenante back to the safety zone and away from the deadly radiation hazard that was threatening the entire crew. It was at this point that Captain Salid got his first bit of good news for his duty shift. =^=Sickbay to Bridge=^= "Go ahead Sickbay," Ahmed replied. =^= Sir we've isolated an anti-radiation compound that we can aerosol throughout the ship's life support. Tom listened as the FO gave him a status report. Tom mentioned his concerns and the CO replied " "Mister Jackson and Mister Smith, Focus every effort you have to aiding engineering keep our shields up. Do what you can to stabilize the power flow and maintain our impulse engines." Jackson replied n"Aye Sir" and returned to his readouts. He monitored the power consumption levels and re-routed what spare power he could find as Lt. Martinovich and the other Engineers needed. The former was tricky as the EPS conduits appeared from Tom's readouts to be pretty well fried. Lt Martinovich, he hoped, would let them know what they planned as alternate routes for power. As Tom worked with Engineering and coordinated a multitude of other tasks, he heard snatches of the conversation between the CO , First Officer, Jon Nayati and the CMO Dr Wyler. It seemed like they'd be cutting several things close - especially the anti-radiation mist that was to help hold down the radiation's effects. ~And you wanted to an Explorer?~ Tom thought to himself. Smiling somewhat sheepishly, Tom turned to his console. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS ROSENANTE - Bridge - CSec - LT (jg) Chance Raschen - 1042) On the way back up to the bridge, Chance stopped off by his quarters to put on a clean uniform. As a privateer on a mission, he wouldn’t have cared how bloody his clothes were; but after joining Starfleet, he thought the Feds felt differently about things like that. As the doors of the turbo-lift opened, he saw the generally organized chaos that he expected. He learned the hard way years ago traveling through the cosmos with his grandfather, bounty hunting, that one should never just barge onto the bridge of any ship and start doing things until you get a briefing, or at least an idea of what the hell is going on. So he stood just inside the bridge area for just a moment watching and listening tell he had an idea of what was going on. “…when he arrives, put him on the security details." The captain’s voice boomed "Immediately, Captain," V'Shera replied. Opening up a priority one com-channel to Sickbay, the Vulcan ATAC said, "Sickbay, this is Bridge tactical. I need an immediate medical update on Mr. Raschen's physical condition. I need to know if Lt. Raschen is fit to resume bridge duty." Silently stepping up next to the Vulcan woman, he waited till she closed the communiqué "Yes Sir. Ensign V'Shera, out." “Brief me; What did the skipper tell you to have me do?” Chance asked. (Reply V’Shera) “And while I’m doing that; what does he have you doing?” Raschen asked, simply because it is important for any leader at any level to maintain accountability of his/her personnel. (Reply V’Shera) Raschen then smiled at her “Thank you V’Shera, go ahead and carry out your orders.” and nodding in the direction of the tactical console before walking over to the security console. Once there he looked at the center seat on the bridge “I’m back for more punishment, skipper.” Raschen said as he started punching in commands to see what orders his assistant had already given so he maintain the same flow without confusion for his security folks. Even as V'Shera spoke, she 'felt' a sudden cool presence at her back. Someone had actually stealthed up on her; how embarrassing. ~Perhaps, it was Mr. Raschen, who had already returned from Sickbay? If so, he was far too quiet for his own good.~ (Reply Sickbay IYW) "Yes Sir, Ensign V'Shera out." Slowly V'Shera turned to face Lt. Raschen, who was standing before her, seeming far too full of himself for her Vulcan taste. "Brief me; what did the skipper tell you to have me do?" Lt. Raschen asked. Nodding in affirmation, V'Shera said quietly, "You are to return to your security detail duties, Sir." "And while I'm doing that, what does he have you doing?" Raschen asked V'Shera, smiling as he spoke now. V'Shera said, "Once you have resumed coordinating security details, Sir, I am to transfer to the tactical shields station for duration of the flight back to the safe zone. I am charged with using the shields to protect the crew from ongoing radiation. On your console, you will find a list of those crew members injured by the ruptured subspace bubble whose shock wave struck the Rose and injured you, Lt. Raschen." She added, "I find it gratifying that you were able to return to your duty so quickly, Sir." "Thank you, V'Shera. Go ahead and carry out your orders." Raschen nodded in the direction of the tactical console before walking over to the security console. Having been dismissed, V'Shera walked quickly over to the console responsible for the Rose's tactical shields and began her new duties there. The radiation readings were high, but were nothing the Rose's tactical shields couldn't currently handle. Across the Bridge, she heard Mr. Raschen's human banter as he reported in to Captain Salid. A moment later her duty station console registered Raschen reviewing the command data she had left there. (Reply any bridge crew IYW) V'Shera heard the ship's engines engage. Relieved, V'Shera watched as the lethal levels dropped slowly from outside the shields as the Rose accelerated quickly to the safe zone adjoining the barely explored and hazardous Beltanis Stellar Nursery. Ensign V' Shera was doing a stand-up job with Security. Tom was glad the Rose was blessed with an excellent crew. His old friend Ahmed Salid was a great CO - Tom was glad he was the boss. Cmdr Caskie was proving to be an outstanding 2nd in Command, reminiscent of Jonas Lemar on the Hades. Charlie Raschen was reviewing things with V'Shera. Tom liked Raschen - a free spirit that Tom envied. The Rosenante moved on impulse power to a safety zone. The radiation levels dropped appreciably. Silently they all breathed a sigh of relief. Sickbay had come up with a way to combat the radiation and were in the process of distributing it throughout the ship. The third officer had returned to the Bridge and the Captain had issued a string of orders meant to take the ship out of harms way at present and start what repairs could to done without a full starbase repair facility. Turning to Josh the Captain spoke. "I'd like a preliminary report within the next two hours, number one." Josh nodded at him. "Aye Sir." Hitting the comm button on her chair she began speaking. "Caskie to all department heads. I need a preliminary report from all of you no later than the next hour and a half. Department status, repair estimates and casualties." (Reply all department heads and acting heads) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - FO - Lt Cmdr Josh Caskie - 1011) "Excuse me, Commander Caskie, I was wondering if I could have a minute of your time?" Josh turned towards the aCSO and smiled at him. Crossing to his station she stopped beside his chair. "Of course you can Mr Weaver, as long as it pertains to our current situation. If not I suggest you table it for later." "I've been thinking. We encountered a gravimetric wave, and regardless of its origin, it might reoccur. Since we are in a somewhat delicate situation, we could modify type VI probes, and use them as a sort of beachhead, to break future waves. We would just need to swap out parts of the sensor pallets, gut out half the comm modules and install a gravity pulse generators." He showed her a model on his console with three such modified probes standing at a distance of 15000 kilometers. "We could slave them to the conn, so this way they would follow the ship if we were to move." The little animated ship moved through coloured clouds, three dots hovered in close proximity. "We would burn out the emitters after a wave, though. They would have to be replaced every time. So what do you think?" Josh thought about it for a few seconds and turned back from his screen to face him. "To be honest Mr Weaver I think it is a very clever idea. However, my only worry regarding it is that it would take Engineering a fair amount of work, not only to set it up, but to replace the emitters as and when needed. Given that we have not yet heard from them and have no idea of their status I will not authorise you to proceed with it at present. However, I will keep it in mind for future consideration once I know the status of the Engineering Department. Thank you Mr Weaver. Well done." Crossing back to her chair Josh sat down and began worrying about Engineering or rather the lack of communication from them. (No reply needed) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - CMO's Office - CMO - Lt Aleesa Wyler- Day 1- 1110) Aleesa sighed as she finished the last of her report for the First Officer. The activity in sick bay was still hectic, although now they were down to the less serious cases. A few sprains, bruises and lacerations and even a few broken bones could all be cured with modern medical technology. The real heart breakers were the injuries involving Neural damage. The only part of the body that science couldn't completely replicate was the major nerve clusters or the brain. For those individuals the task became safeguarding their lives as well as making them comfortable. Partial paralysis could be reversed, but serious spinal injury was almost never reparable. There was at least one patient in the ICU ward that was suffering from such injuries. Crushed vertebrae had lacerated and effectively destroyed the spinal nerve. They would wake up a certified paraplegic. There were other injuries that needed serious treatment, 38 in all. The injuries ranged from severe plasma burns, radiation intoxication, terrible falls, or critically broken bones and internal hemorrhaging. There were a few head injuries, cranial trauma was nothing new, and these patients would require special care. She moved her summary to the top of the report with the various names and details below. Dead: 6 Critically injured: 38 Minor injuries: 203 reported Her finger hovered over the send button as she realized how faceless she was about to make all of these personnel that had come to her for assistance. It would be impossible to report each set of injuries or mention all the families that had been or were going to be affected. ~This is the best way, Allie~ she told herself, then pressed the transmit button, sending her report to both the First officer and the Chief of Operations. "Mister Jackson make certain that the SIF are boosted as needed for the crossing." (reply Jackson) =^= Sickbay to bridge, we are deploying the Radiation treatments now.=^= Ahmed smiled. ~Finally some good news. "Proceed doctor." He stated, although he knew that she would do so anyway. the ship shook as again she cut through the disk of gas and dust surrounding the safe-zone. When she settled down, it was smooth sailing. "Radiation levels have dropped significantly, Captain." Dralar reported, "Coming to all stop." On the main viewer was the distorted energized closed iris like phenomenon that marked this end of the subspace terminus. With the main deflector array destroyed, they'd never be able to open the iris enough to pass the Rosenante through. However with the radiation decreased enough to allow their tactical shields to protect the ship, they had managed to cheat a fate worse than death. inside the safe zone they could drop the shields completely since the hull would block the lower radiation levels effectively. "Stand us down from red alert." Ahmed ordered. (reply V'Shera or Raschen) He pressed a button on his armrest. "Attention all hands, this is the captain. We have been struck by a class six gravimetric shockwave, which we believe was the result of a natural phenomenon. This wave was exceptionally powerful and we have sustained moderate damage to areas of the ship. The vessel is currently out of immediate danger, however, there is a lot of work to be done to get her back into ship-shape operation. All personnel are to perform a detailed sectional damage assessment and report the results to your station chiefs and department heads. That is all, Captain out." He closed the channel. He turned to Caskie. "I'd like a preliminary report within the next two hours, number one." NRPG: At the very least, with the Main Deflector Array destroyed, the ship can not repair the navigational deflectors. They will require a dry-dock or something similar. Additionally there should be power shortages and even damage to the port side Impulse reactor. Beyond those things, I leave it up to the crew to decide how bad it should be otherwise. (reply All) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - COPS - Lt Tom Jackson - Day 1 - 1116) "Captain we'll be crossing the barrier in five minutes." Tom took in his newest order and again replied "Aye, Aye Sir." He scanned the readouts and re-route power to increase the SIF's. He 'borrowed' power from several non-essential areas. Sensitive areas were secured. Security patrols have been re-established at irregular intervals. With the exception of those currently in Sickbay for injuries received, all department personnel are on duty; any not performing security or tactical duties, who have experience in other departments are assisting with repairs in those sections. Department will remain on Red Alert schedule until major repairs are complete or I am directed otherwise. As a privateer, whenever his ship needed immediate repairs after a battle, Chance always insisted that nobody onboard got to stand down until repairs were complete. It was that same thinking that had him keep everyone in his department up and working. After reading his report, yet again, he decided to stop fiddling with it and sent it to Commander Caskie. Taking a look at the chronometer above the main viewer, Chance was glad he still had a few minutes to spare before his report was late. "Now that the Rosenante is out of immediate danger, I am beginning to wonder if I made a poor judgment in leaving the safe zone in the first place." "While the ship's systems are rated for the level of interference and radiation that was present in the nebula, I didn't take into account the dynamic nature of the situation. It never occurred to me that a subspace bubble, a rare phenomenon could almost destroy the ship in a single instant." "It was only the fast thinking of the crew that managed to keep us intact through the worst of it. lieutenant Dralar's piloting skill coupled with Lieutenant's Martinovich, and Jackson's expertise fundamentally saved the ship from certain destruction." "Martinovich has conducted an EVA hull walk to assess the damage dealt to the main deflector array, and despite all my wishes to the contrary has reported that the entire array is destroyed and irreparable without a dry dock facility." "Additionally, we have suffered significant damage to the port side impulse reactor, which has forced us to shut it down to avoid a complete meltdown. That means that the vessel is running on reduced power until the reactor can be repaired, which is expected to take two to three weeks. After reviewing the CEO's reports, I find this to be a very optimistic estimate." "Repair teams, aided by our operations department, has managed to repair all of the power relays powering the ship's tactical deflectors. At present, that means that if we are forced to do so, we can travel through the nebula cloud once again, hopefully this time without worry of another subspace bubble." "According to both Ensign Weaver and V'Shera, subspace bubbles are very rare, and so the phenomenon is unlikely to reoccur, should we find ourselves forced to head home, the long way." "With the main deflector array destroyed, we do not have a means to reopen the terminus veil and so would be forced to make the nearly 800 light-year journey back to Geneva station by more conventional means. This is a possibility, since the Rosenante could conceivably complete the journey, barring any problems in roughly eight months at maximum cruising speed. even less time if we engage the Spiral warp drive." "The ship's casualty reports are thankfully lower than they could have been. We lost six crewman and several dozen were seriously injured. Almost everyone, myself included sustained more manageable injuries." "Still the loss of any member of my crew is sharply felt and I know that they will be missed in the coming hours as we try to carry on in the face of adversity." "Commander Caskie has been performing her new duties well, and I am growing more comfortable with the idea of leaving her in command of the ship. To be honest, although I have always known her to be a dependable officer, I was concerned that she would not be well suited to the first officer's chair. It makes me glad to know that I was wrong about her." "On another note, Lieutenant Nayati, still seems somewhat reluctant to completely embrace his authority as Third Officer. This is not to say that he is remiss in his duties. I simply believe that he needs a little more time to come to the realization that he is in fact the fourth in command of the ship and all that entails. With Sullivan away for advanced tactical training, Nayati is currently Third in command of the ship. it is my belief that he will acclimate well to the authority change, although I do hope that he doesn't take too long to do so." "It is times like these, when something truly unexpected happens that threatens us all, that I can see the skill, determination and quality of my officers really shine through. It makes me very proud to know that these individuals have given me the opportunity to command them. I only hope I don't let them down." ~End Log. Finally after a few moments the doors closed and Knews sighed knowing that would be the last glimpse that he would see of the nebula, short of finding a portal somewhere. The atmosphere flooded into the bay and the heat returned to normal, so Daly notified the Cervantes that it was safe to disembark. Daly himself then headed down to the flight deck to make certain that the post flight check was completed properly. As he was arriving Lieutenant Sullivan was stepping out of the shuttle. And for the second time in a day, Daly was breathless. The Vulcan woman was idyllic and Daly had taken every opportunity to get a glance at her whenever he could. Being pushed along at Trans-warp speeds by columated Tachyon particles seemed impossible, and now it had made a believer out of Sullivan. Given the recent discovery of these "rivers" and the necessity of entering them at very specific angles, or else risk destruction, she wondered how many un-explained vessel destructions or damages could now be attributed to these newly discovered events. She reviewed the information sent to her on exiting the rivers at the desired location. It involved angling the deflector shields to precise angles, allowing the current to push the vessel out of the stream. The time to exit neared. ~Three, two, one, now.~ The shields re-aligned in an instant, the Cervantes shuddered as it veered to the right, T'Larah gripped the arm rests of the pilot's chair to stay in her seat, then the inertial dampers compensated changing the careening feeling to a simple leaning sensation. A few moments later the slight turbulence was completely gone when the shuttle exited the river. The Cervantes continued to coast at high warp in real-space for a few seconds as T'Larah guided it to a gradual deceleration, until it's eventual drop to impulse speeds. When he had gone to sickbay yesterday to have it looked at, he had felt somewhat ashamed, and so had not brought it up to the CMO. Instead he had made the circuit of the bay, speaking with those that were injured but cognitive, and lingering long enough to offer up prayers for a rapid recovery fro those that were not. That miniature tour had turned into a ship wide tour soon enough. Ahmed somehow sensed that the crew needed to see and hear him making the rounds and so he had spent nearly two hours walking the ship, speaking with the crew and reassuring them that everything would be fine. He only hoped that he was able to keep that promise. Ahmed rolled out his prayer mat, facing it to the port side of the ship. Space faring Muslims long ago realized the difficulty in facing Mecca when the planet earth and the ship were both in motion. The compromise was that they began facing to the port side of the ship on which they were stationed. It was a symbolic gesture to indicate ones desire to face Mecca during prayer. Ahmed knelt on the mat and prostrated himself several time while saying his morning prayers. This ritual continued for twenty minutes until he had completed the prayers and then the captain rose to his feet, put away his prayer mat and dressed. His prayers completed, he ordered up breakfast, a very simple fare of wheat toast, two poached eggs and a pot of Turkish Coffee and took his morning meal at his desk. He munched his food while he read the morning reports from the last duty shift. The engineering reports looked good and Ahmed was happy to see that so many of the repairs were complete or nearly so. Martinovich had really been pushing her people. Then he reached the energy reserve reports. With the main reactors down the ship was almost using more power than the remaining reactor could produce. Additionally, with the EPS system in the state it was in, they couldn't shunt power from the warp core without risking a cascade failure. He'd have to make some changes to their power consumption numbers or they'd find themselves in a very bad spot very quickly. Ahmed signed off on all the reports, logging them in his log. Among them he noticed that Sullivan had arrived aboard ship. It was good to have his second officer back aboard. With a heavy sigh he sent an early morning meeting request to Caskie to have a senior staff meeting scheduled for all department heads and their assistants at 1400 hours in the observation lounge to discuss their situation. NRPG: Basically the following characters are to report to the meeting that Caskie will call: Morrow, T'Kron, Martinovich, Wyler, Weaver, Sullivan, V'Shera, Raschen, Jackson, Smith, Nayati, Caskie, Salid. Trent, Fiancie and janeway will be excused since Jono is on LOA. You must post your character's arrival prior to 1400 to avoid being late. I promise you, your character will not want to be late.
