The transporter room pretty much what she had expected to see in reference to the Rose being a standard issue of her class of star ship. There was a single human male transporter tech behind the pad's control console. The transporter tech was 5'10" tall, making him three inches shorter than V'Shera's atypical Vulcan female height. The transporter tech's black pigmentation was two shades darker than V'Shera's light Vulcan ebony. Judging from her brief study of black Terran ethnicity led V'Shera to deduce the man's ancestral origins to be an African Bantu and Watusi mix. He was probably handsome by human standards, except for the rather surprised, suddenly smitten look the tech now wore on his Afro-American face. Despite all her logic and disciplined training V'Shera felt a small shudder of distaste again run and down her suddenly stiffened spine. ~ I find it annoying, and illogical, that so many non-Vulcan males find my physical aggravation of limbs, coloration, physical curves and facial gestalt so distracting,~ V'Shera thought to herself trying to remain cool and dispassionate. ~ And it wasn't just the males that annoyed me with compliments of being physically attractive.~ While she had attended Star Fleet Academy in San Francisco V'Shera had suffered unwanted amorous advances from same sexed females who had mistaken her coldness toward the advances of men as possible willingness to succumb to the warmer advances of women. These latter advances didn't please V'Shera at all and she rebuffed all such advances with logic and telling sharp words. "It was logic, not looks that are important foolish ones Begone." Though V'Shera understood the biological necessity of the basic male sex drive she found it very inconvenient that it had become increasingly centered on her as grew to womanly maturity on Vulcan. Not so much that Vulcan males were attracted her but other Vulcan women chided V'Shera for her looks rather than her logic. Her emotions were always too edgy for Vulcan social norms, which made her sore point in reference to family and peers. Her female peers coldly' logical jibes had more than a ring of truth as V'Shera had more trouble with mediation and detachment than other Vulcan women of her comparable age. Except for the sexual madness that pon farr, .Life was far better on Vulcan where not everything in organized society was so driven by male-female sexual tension, just the reverse on Earth and seemingly throughout much of UFP Space. ~It was better on Vulcan, at least it should have been. But life on Vulcan wasn't better, not in the end.~ ~ Except, that, in the end, I was logically unable to fit in there,~ V'Shera shuddered inwardly. ~ My emotions were too edgy to attain Kolin'Ar, which was my last chance to find a rational niche in Vulcan's logic driven society. My failure at Kolin'Ar exiled me from my family, severed the telepathic joining with my intended husband and gave me no place to go but Star Fleet.~ Here V'Shera pulled her darkly ruminative thoughts back from her Vulcan past to her Star Fleet present. ~ I am on the Rosenante now, and this is where my new life begins.~ V'Shera said to herself quickly stepping off the transporter pad. Hoping to break his apparent fixated trance, V'Shera walked resolutely toward the awaiting black crewman and spoke to him forcefully; " Crewman, I am ASEC V'Shera, reporting as ordered. Please direct me to the Shift Duty Officer so I may report in." "Aye sir" Dralar replied, then immediately set about looking for friendly Federation colonies along the route. Robert frowned slightly as he heard the first offices orders. “Aye Sir.” Robert paused for a second working out how he was going to do this. He brought up the information on the civilian crew. ~Okay on board we have 132 civilian personal. So glad we are not on the Champlin we would have hundreds more~ "Mister Smith, It seems that the Colony of Aldus IX is a good candidate." Dralar began. "It is a Federation economic center, specializing in Orion goods, situated along the route in question. If we increase our speed to Warp 8.5 and maintain that speed and spend no more than 2 hours offloading the civilians, then we will only be delayed by roughly 45 minutes." Robert nodded to Dralar. “Yes Sir. I better get started on it.” He asked the computer to inform all civilian personal that they were going to be disembarked at Aldus IX colony and for them to prepare there personal belongings. He then informed people in charge of the specific cargo bays which contained the civilians belongings were going to be moved. The then informed the transporters and cargo transporters that when arriving at Aldus IX their duty was to help in the debarkation of the civilian crew above any other task unless stated other wise. He looked over what he had done trying to see if he had not missed anything. When he was satisfied be began to move the power reserves around to cope with the drainage that would happen when the transporters would start. Calling it up she read it and smiled to herself. ~Here we go again.~ Knowing that she had just under an hour before the meeting she closed down everything she was working on and, picking up a padd, headed out into Sickbay to make sure that everything would be ready for whatever faced them next. Having toured the entire Sickbay facility and warned her staff to face, well to be honest, what exactly could she warn them to face, except the unexpected, Josh collated all the information on her padd, made a quick stop by the nearest replicator to get herself a cup of Lapsang Suchong and headed off to the meeting. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- CSEC Office- aCSEC- ENS Chance Raschen- 1020) Raschen sat in his office and considered the directive that the skipper had given him "For your part of the briefing focus on the planet and the area in general, what we can expect and where we might start our search." Salid had said. Chance just could help himself from smirking when he said the first thing that had come to his mind which was “That’s easy sir, start at either the Slave Auction or the Treasure Chest Entertainment Complex.” Raschen realized after he said it that the crew he was going onto that planet with didn’t figure that Barakos IV was the modern day version of Tortuga from the golden age of piracy on Earth. Preparing to send a message to the only Bounty Hunter (retired or not) that he feared, his own grandfather, ‘Easy Ed’ Raschen. The message read as follows: To: Ed Raschen, Vessel Master, SS Bounty From: Chance Raschen, USS Rosenante Hey you dirty ol’ man, how are ya these days? How’s mom doing? Good I hope. I have news, I am healthy and doing fine, but the Star Hawk was destroyed almost a month ago in a 7 to 1 fight against raiders of some kind. So I’m planning on taking a little vacation to Barakos IV and spend some time relaxing and getting together with some folks from the old days at my house there. I also want to see what’s new in the fields of weapons and smuggling, maybe even purchase a ‘new to me’ ship. I know it’s been a couple of years since I’ve been there, and knowing you you’re probably there now. I was wondering if you could tell me about any changes since I was there last. I’m thinking of visiting some of my old haunts like maybe the Treasure Chest and taking a couple of buddies with me. I’ll be with one of them when you contact me so don’t worry, they will have lots of questions. Depending on the questions they ask, go ahead and answer them and I’ll pay for the info and get reimbursed later; but that is only up to 2,000 credits, after that I’ll okay the purchase. By the way, at the Chest, have any of the rules changed for the dueling pit; or is it still to the death? Hope to hear from you soon. Chance He then sent the message out and prayed that he wouldn’t be long in waiting for a response. He loved his grandpa, but hated lying to the man. Then the more Chance thought about it, he really didn’t lie, just a slight exaggeration mixed with an omission. Chance then looked at his clock and decided that he needed to get ready for the 1100 meeting. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Shuttle Velocity – Lieutenant Michelle to Twinpoints - 1025) Michelle was only half listening to the pilot talk about his dreams of what was to be with his fiancée. Her eyes were too busy eating her first view of the USS Rosenante as they matched the ship's warp to give him her full attention. A beautiful lady of sleek lines and subtle power. She was like a rapier, a work of art as much as a tool. She was already having less qualms about serving in Starfleet once more. It had been a choice of get out and get on a ship or be stared at by everyone who knew her history. With such grace in front of her, it was easier to accept her role and future. "Any thought of where you will raise your family?" She asked, more to prompt the pilot's distraction than genuine curiosity. She felt a nagging guilt that at one point she would have cared what each and every individual whose path crossed her felt and was doing, but now she found she had to focus her energies on those she was responsible for. She didn't care less that he was a sapient being, but he needed no healing from her. "One sec." He said as he contacted the vessel. "USS Rosenante, this is Shuttle Velocity from McKinley with a crew transfer. Permission us to gain transporter range?" (Reply Rosenante) He thanked the communications officer and signed off. He smiled as he set in the course to match with the ship they'd contacted earlier. She wondered what happened to their original plans. The shuttle had met at the arranged coordinates and had found the ship absent. A brief investigation had shown the ship was travelling at high warp for elsewhere. Hope of catching up was nil, even in the sleek warp shuttle until the Rosenante registered a course change where the shuttle could potentially catch up. The pilot seemed to have no interest in docking at high warp, and Michelle couldn't rightly blame the man. She'd rather take her chances with a high warp transport and have faith he would get inside the Rosenante's warp bubble safely. She didn't understand the mechanics of it, but he stopped talking about plans to get a small trader vessel to start coordinating movements with the much larger ship. The helmcontrol of the starship seemed an artist in their own right. A beep and a green light on the console told her it was her turn at the show. She stood and moved to the single transporter pad at the rear of the small warp shuttle. "Lieutenant to Twinpoints to Rosenante, permission to come aboard?" She wasn't taking any chances, any ship travelling this fast was a ship on high alert. (Reply Rosenante) "Transport at your convenience please." She trusted a starship's transporter chief's abilities much more than her's, or the pilot's or the shuttle's computers for that matter, to get her across space in the warp situation. She supposed she could have stood anywhere, but she'd heard being on a transporter pad, even if it wasn't sending, made the process easier. "Thank you for the smooth ride, Lieutenant Aimsley." She told the pilot. "Good luck and fair sailing Counsellor." He said with a smile. He saluted her as her world shimmered into gold and dissolved around her. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Transporter Room – Lieutenant Michelle to Twinpoints - 1030) Michelle was pleased to find all her body parts where they should be as she stepped off the transporter pad. She gave the transporter chief a happy smile, "Thank you for the smooth pickup, Chief." "Thank you Lieutenant. What of your gear?" He seemed curious that she wasn't even carrying a duffle. "It's just me," Michelle replied, tail looping a little. What belongings she'd had had been sent home to her parents when she'd died and she refused to pay the shipping just to get it sent back. She'd just replicated what she needed as she went. Spirits knew she had enough back pay to cover summoning a new furbrush, oils and toothbrush. "Where may I find the Chief Counsellor?" she asked. "Good question, Lieutenant." The Chief replied, eyes dancing, "Best off reporting into the FO." Michelle raised an eyebrow, interesting things were obviously happening on this ship. "Very well, I don't suppose you'd happen to know where I could find the first officer?" she asked, playing along. "He should still be in his office, you might want to hurry though, there's a senior staff meeting at 1100." Michelle thanked the man and headed out. Having been enlisted, she knew better than most officers how the lowly crewman knew so much about what was going on above them. Gossip was the true coin of a long range vessel. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Deck 2, FO's Office – Lieutenant Michelle to Twinpoints - 1035) Michelle rang the chime, wondering where the Yeomen were. She remembered her original job with fondness, but no real wish to regress back to it. No matter how much simpler her life had been when she was chasing all over the Sovereign to get officers to sign PADDs or redo reports, she wouldn't trade being a healer for anything. (Reply Janeway – I'm assuming Jono's getting ready to head upstairs) Michelle entered the office, not entirely surprised to see the first officer getting ready to leave. He guessed he would have to get used to being called upon constantly during the day. "Come in, Please." He shouted at the door as he looked back down at his desk again. He looked up again as the doors swooshed open, the woman that stood before him was to be honest... a little wierd. She seemed to be a cross between a cat and a woman, he didnt stare as he didnt want to be rude. It was more of a fleeting glance, however she did look quite 'cute' in the traditional sense. "Lieutenant Michelle to Twinpoints reporting sir. Counsellor." He repeated what he said to Sheridan earlier on in the day, "A pleasure to meet you. Sit down if you would." He said pointing to a chair. (Reply Michelle) "You've come onto the ship at a most fortuitous time." He said, a little impressed with his use of words. "We are in need of a Chief Counsellor while we wait for Starfleet to assign us one. Ensign Trent at the moment is the only counsellor on-board and is relativley new to her field. She seems to be finding it tough to hold the department together with lack of leadership experience. If your willing I'd like to assign you as Acting Chief of Counselling? Norman climbed up on top of the couch and laid on the back rest, and began cleaning him-self. ~Did someone break into my room and play a prank on me?~ she thought of the most sinister first, it was her job. "Computer, recite auditory list of all individuals who have occupied this state room, starting this morning when I left at 0630 hours." [Lieutenant T'Larah Sullivan, Domestic Feline Norman. End list.] ~That little @#$%~ Norman's ears perked up and his hackles raised and before Sullivan could inhale to speak was already making his way off the couch. "NORMAN!" she exclaimed in a very non-Vulcan manner. Norman's back legs pushed off of the couch propelling him an easy 6 meters before he hit carpet and continued his sprint as if for his life. ~How does that cat react so fast?~ She sighed in frustration and looked at her chrono which was on the desk but was now on the floor in front of her. ~Great 1043, with this mess I might be late for the meeting.~ She let out a frustrated sigh. ~Calm down, it's he's just a cat acting out because his caretaker has been gone more recently.~ After briefly centering herself she began the task of picking up the mess. Sensing her new found calm Norman came from around the corner. As she was knelt down he rubbed up against her leg purring. "Just for that stunt you eat late tonight." she said. The questions seemed rather bland, but Ahmed figured that there must be some sort of cipher involved and that while the message looked unassuming to the casual reader, the recipient would see more there than was easily discerned. ~Or at least I hope so.~ Ahmed thought ~or there won't be much information available here for us.~ "Thank you Mister Raschen." Ahmed replied after looking over the message, "We'll be starting soon." “Roger that sir” The Ensign replied and moved over to gaze out of the scenic windows of the lounge while he waited for the meeting to begin. (reply none) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - 2O/CTAC Lieutenant T'Larah Sullivan - 1059.3) “Roger that sir” Sullivan heard as she strode into the observation lounge, stoically hoping that the meeting hadn't begun early, she looked around. ~Good.~ She took her seat next to Jono, and acknowledged his and the Captain's inquisitive looks she explained with but a word. "Norman." she said calmly. (Reply Captain Salid, Lt. Janeway, if you wish) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Obs Lounge - FO, Lt. Jono Janeway - 1059.9) Janeway rushed with Michelle from his office to the meeting. He was quite obviosuly going to be late, however the late transfer of this 'cat-woman' had come at a rather unlucky time. He carried with him many padds which included orders for the staff and chips which they could replicate their 'Privateering Uniforms' from. He stepped inside the Observation Lounge just after Michelle, allowing her to go in first. She announced herself and took the attention while Jono slipped in and took his seat next to Ahmed. T'Larah sat down almost instantly and said "Norman." He nodded and smiled. He then sat back and waited for the Captain to bring the meeting to order. (Reply CO, all) (Posted by Jono) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- Lieutenant Michelle to Twinpoints -1100) Michelle was normally one to be early, getting her foot in the door right as the hour softly chimed on her watch made her wince. It wasn't an example she liked it set. If a *counsellor* didn't care enough about herself and those she was meeting to be on time.. Well, she supposed, as she waited for the faces to look her way, she was technically on time, but still. "Hi, I'm Lieutenant Michelle to Twinpoints. I've been assigned as a counsellor and Lieutenant Janeway advised I attend." Not a stellar introduction as these things went, but she didn't want to hold up the meeting. Instead, she just pulled out the nearest empty chair, smoothed her uniform skirt and sat down, ready to learn. "Sir, the spiral drive system is at optimum efficiency, however the main deflector dish is still being calibrated. As you know, the spiral drive relies on the main deflector dish to ensure navigation. We're estimating 2 to 3 more hours to complete the calibration." (Reply any, none) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- CO- Capt. Ahmed Ibn Salid- 1101.3) The doors to the lounge slid open just a few moments before Ahmed was about to begin the briefing. A Lieutenant, whom he had never seen before entered the room followed closely by Janeway and Sullivan. ~Well they were almost late for the briefing~ Ahmed thought to himself. "Hi, I'm Lieutenant Michelle to Twinpoints. I've been assigned as a counselor and Lieutenant Janeway advised I attend." the new arrival quipped then took a seat next to Doctor Caskie, before Ahmed could even reply. Janeway took the seat reserved for the FO and Sullivan that of the second officer with a single utterance of the word "Norman" Ahmed smiled slightly. The thought that a feline could derail the emotionless calm of his second Officer struck him as humorous, at least considering the circumstances. Ahmed glanced up at the Chronograph as it ticked over to 1101 hours. He cleared his throat then took a quick stock of the personnel that had arrived and those that had not. ~Guess there will need to be a discussion on punctuality.~ he thought to himself then set out to start the briefing in earnest. The Officers had turned their attention to him and Ahmed smiled back as he began. "Good morning everyone." he started, "I know that you are all wondering why it is that we have changed course and are proceeding somewhere at high warp." At that point the door chime to the lounge sounded a moment before the doors swished open and Ahmed noted yet another officer whom he did not know entering the room. "Please forgive my intrusion Captain Salid. I am ATAC Ensign V'Shera reporting for duty, is there any way I can be of assistance, Sir?" "We were just beginning our briefing Ensign, please take a seat." Ahmed replied. (reply V'Shera iyw) He waited for the Vulcan woman to be seated before continuing. "This morning I received a communication from Admiral Talbot of Star Fleet command with orders. Two days ago a peace delegation from Meldovia bound for Arturia was attacked by Orion Pirates Operating from Orion space in the Barakos Sector. These pirates kidnapped the prince and leader of the Meldovian people, who is essential to the peace negotiations that will bring a long 400 year war between his people and the Arturians to an end." "For the last several years the Vulcans have had an Arbiter names T'val working closely with both factions to reach this agreement. The final stage was to be completed with the Prince's arrival, which is now questionable." "We do not know if the abduction of the prince was purposeful or incidental, but what we do know is that no one has ransomed the prince in the usual manner and now both sides of the conflict are blaming the other for the event." "The fact that there has been no ransom is problematic, as that could mean that either the individuals who are responsible to not know whom they have abducted, have done so by incident and are therefore worried about what they have done, or have done so with the explicit intention of sabotaging the peace accords." "Each of these possibilities are fraught with their own complications. And will need to be handled carefully. Starfleet Intelligence has no available information for us on the incident and so we will be conducting this rescue using Intel that we will be forced to gather ourselves." "We are currently underway to rendez-vous with the Arbiter and perhaps a small delegation from both parties involved in the peace accords. It has been decided that the Arbiter's presence may be necessary when we rescue Prince Khamal." "Mister Smith will be seeing to the arrangements for quartering, reception and needs of the delegation and the Arbiter once they arrive. Assisting Mister Smith will be Chief Sheridan who has most recently transferred aboard from the Hades. I served with the Chief aboard the nimitz and have every confidence in his abilities to assist in this matter." "Once we have taken the diplomats aboard, we will be setting course for a federation outpost where we will offload the families and non-essential personnel pending our return to federation Space." "Mister Smith has already made arrangements for those personnel to transfer and for their needs while they are off-ship. he will be providing a detailed disembarkation schedule which must be adhered to." "Once we have completed the disembarkation of personnel, we will proceed under spiral warp drive and stealth systems to Barakos IV, which is a well known Haven for Orion Pirates." "The Rosenante, while on an official mission, can not afford to be the cause of creating additional Orion aggression. With the Fleet still in recovery from the civil war and the borders only thinly patrolled, the UFP is in no condition to fight with the Orion Syndicates. therefore and member of this crew or the ship herself if captured by Orions, will be disavowed as rogue operatives. This does not mean that we are to conduct ourselves in any manner that is less than honorable, and I will personally hold each member of this ship's crew responsible for their behavior during the course of this mission." "The Rosenante will remain stealthed during the entirety of the operation unless we have no other choice. Her role will be to coordinate and support intelligence gathering teams in whatever locations we deem necessary. The final goal is to locate the Prince and transport him to Arturia before the deadline to the agreement expires." "That will give us three standard weeks to locate him and complete our mission." "Mister Bird, how are our stealth systems looking?" (reply Bird) Ahmed nodded, he expected no less than that from his chief engineer. "Very good, and Mister Matrix, as you are the resident expert on the Spiral Drive, what is it's status?" (reply Matrix) Again Ahmed nodded. "Mister T'Kron, we are expected to receive sensor data recovered from the attack on the Meldovian ships, when we do it will be your task to digest it and provide me with a detailed report, specifically on anything that may help us narrow down our search for the perpetrators." (reply T'Kron) Ahmed then turned to Doctor Caskie. She had been an excellent officer and he knew that he could rely on her to perform well under stress. "Doctor, It is my understanding that the Meldovian delegation has agreed to turn over the prince's medical records to you. I'd like for you to review them and determine if there are likely any complications that we will need to be aware of. Additionally I'd like for you and your crew to be prepared to handle injuries that may arise among any of the Cartenians in the delegation." NRPG: The Meldovians and the Arturians are cultural subsets of the same Cartenian species. RPG: (reply Caskie) Ahmed then turned towards the new Chief of Security. "Mister Raschen has personal experience of the Barakos IV sector and will be providing us with a briefing. Mister Raschen the floor is yours." (reply Raschen room for lots more including questions) Once the CSEC had finished with his briefing and all questions had been answered, Ahmed looked to Sullivan. "Mister Sullivan, what is the tactical assessment of Orion starship design? What are we likely to encounter and what do we need to be wary of?" (reply Sullivan with room for lots more including questions) Once the CTAC had finished with her briefing and all questions had been answered, Ahmed nodded. They now really understood why the Rosenante did not want to be discovered if it could be avoided. "I'd like for you to put together a few tactical plans for handling multiple Orion vessels at once should it come down to it. Have Ensign V'Shera assist you." (reply Sullivan, V'Shera) "Mister Janeway will be leading one of the away teams when we reach Barakos IV, Mister Ro'Dal will be heading the other. Jono has some assignments and information to distribute." He turned and nodded to his FO. "The floor is yours." (reply Jono with room for lots more including questions) Once Jono had finished, Ahmed once again continued with his briefing. "With the reassignment of Colonel Drizzt from the ship I have decided that Lieutenant Smith Will be our new Acting MCO, effective immediately. He was otherwise occupied with Marine business and could not attend this briefing. Additionally, we will be utilizing the Holographic Marine Program on an experimental basis. There is to be no tampering with the program without the express permission from either myself, Mister Janeway or the MCO." "I want detailed readiness reports and departmental status reports on the FO's desk no later than 1200 hours. Mister Janeway you will brief me on the ship's status at 1230 hours." (reply Janeway) "Mister Dralar, how long until we reach the rendez-vous?" He asked. "Thirty-nine hours captain. our ETA is roughly 1500 hours ship's time tomorrow." the Skorr officer replied. The Captain nodded. "Well, we have quite a bit to do between now and then, Are there any other questions?" (reply Any with questions) Once any questions had been answered, Ahmed concluded the meeting. "Lieutenant Twinpoints, I'd like to meet with you at 1300 hours in my ready room." (reply Twinpoints) "Chief Sheridan, I'd like to meet with you at 1330 hours" (reply Sheridan) "Ensign V'Shera, I'd like for you to meet with me at 1400 hours in the same location." The Rose had been much larger than V had expected and the crew was moving in the huge vessel's metallic bowels with an unusual sense of urgency. Snatches of hurried conversations V'Shera had overheard in passing indicated that some sort of crime of intergalactic import had been recently committed and her new ship was going to be involved in solving it. If what she had heard in passing were true, V found herself relishing even the remotest prospect of testing her intelligence and still considerable powers of Vulcan logic against the fermentable forces of bottomless greed and illogical chaos. Reporting to the Rose's Duty Officer Station, V'Shera had been greeted with polite, cordiality, She had been assigned personal quarters of Deck 6, told to stow her personal effects there and deliver her medical history to Main Sickbay. While in Main Sickbay heard ship's Captain Salad had request an officers' meeting in the Observation Lounge at 1100. Though not a senior officer, V'Shera was an officer nonetheless, and her duty to Star Fleet compelled her report to Captain Salad ASAP. Having followed all the burly Duty Officer's stated instructions to letter, V'Shera then took the nearest turbo lift to the corridor closet to the Observation Lounge 1100 briefing.. Disappointedly V'Shera arrived to find herself 2.1 minutes late. Not wanting to appear impolite but definitely not wanting to miss the first opportunity to be of service to her newily assigned ship, V'Shera chimed for admissions to Rose's Observation Lounge. The Lounge's doors swooshed softly open, V'Shera stepped quietly inside and said: "Please forgive my intrusion Captain Salid. Due to working in Ops having a good idea of what the other departments needs were for the up coming mission was always good. This meant that he could try and prioritise the needs of each department. "We are currently underway to rendez-vous with the Arbiter and perhaps a small delegation from both parties involved in the peace accords. It has been decided that the Arbiter's presence may be necessary when we rescue Prince Khamal." "Mister Smith has already made arrangements for those personnel to transfer and for their needs while they are off-ship. he will be providing a detailed disembarkation schedule which must be adhered to." He had already got a few demands from some of the science staff that they had experiments that could not be transported down to the planet and would need a shuttle craft. He had already requested a few shuttles which he hoped would be enough. "Once we have completed the disembarkation of personnel, we will proceed under spiral warp drive and stealth systems to Barakos IV, which is a well known Haven for Orion Pirates." He began to make a search on his PADD for all the requirements for the Arbitor and the other delegates. ~Ow this is going to be fun~ He carried on listening to the others reply to the Captain’s questions. Robert gave a sly grin as he head that his brother was the MCO. ~Good for him. Looks like he’s going to having his hands foul~ He put in a remember to go and find Kenneth when he had a minute and congratulate him. Atttenshon!" He watched with satisfaction that the room thundered with the stamp of heavy marines boots. “Listen up.” “I am your new Marine Commanding Officer as of 1000 this morning due to Lt Colonel Drizzt being transferred to another post.” He let that sink in. “I have told by the Captain that we are going on a mission into harms way. We will be training hard and I expect nothing but the finest examples of the corps. "Mister Raschen has personal experience of the Barakos IV sector and will be providing us with a briefing. Mister Raschen the floor is yours.." ”Thank you sir” Chance said as he nodded to the skipper. Then taking a deep breath to gather his thoughts, feeling like he was about to talk himself into the noose or worse, and he started “For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Chance Raschen. Up until I graduated Starfleet Academy less than 3 years ago, I’ve been a regular visitor to this pirate den since I was 15. After this part of the brief I’ll be happy to field any questions about Barakos IV.” Raschen paused thinking ~I bet they’re afraid that they’ve just made the outlaw into the town sheriff. ~ Chance engaged the holographic display on the conference table and started to run a simulation of Barakos IV. The planet itself was about the same size as Earth; it had no moons but rather a set of rings that orbited the planet. “This is Barakos IV; according to the histories, some of the first governors that were in charge of the original colony on the planet had problems getting vital supplies for the colonist that had settled there. So they made a deals and treaties with every pirate they could; in exchange for necessary supplies and security, the pirates would have a safe place to where they could buy, trade, or sell any ill begotten gain, plunder and/or slaves; and all without the fear of prosecution. Basically, Barakos IV became the modern version of the fabled colonial town of Tortuga in the Caribbean on Earth during the 17th and 18th centuries, but with obvious differences. Like Tortuga though, easy credits usually consorted with easy virtue.” As he zoomed in on the image, medium sized space stations started to appear in high orbital locations around the planet. 4 above the rings and 4 below; pointing at just one station, Chance continued “This is one of the few planets in Orion space that All of the pirate syndicates will unite together to defend. When I was there last, 8 of these stations orbited the planet and served primarily as planetary defense platforms and repair docks, were in place. Each station was controlled by a different syndicate organization; they’re heavily armored and heavily shielded, and armed with tactical sensors; phaser, disruptor, and torpedo capabilities.” Zooming in even more to show just the planet itself, Raschen continued his brief “The best way for me to describe the surface of the planet is that it’s like a moderately vegetated version of the planet Vulcan with several great lakes scattered over the surface. The planets ruling council is made up of two members of each pirate group and all governing decisions must be voted on; if there is a deadlock, then it is voted on by the groups that that are involved in the dispute. If the results of the vote are challenged, then it can be settled in single combat whether it be ships or hand-to-hand.” Chance changed the display again as he continued “The two largest hubs for business on the planet are the Brokerage Auditorium and the Treasure Chest Entertainment Complex. The Brokerage is just that, a brokerage house that deals primarily in the auctioning off of slaves of all races and genders that are supposed to serve any need or want. They will sell anything else you want to unload, but they always get their share of the proceeds. The 5 levels of the Treasure Chest Entertainment Complex is the site where roughly 50% of all the other deals that takes place on the planet surface.” Raschen raised a hand up to emphasize his next statement “One more thing and your life may depend on this tad-bit of information. Inside the complex is what’s referred to as, The Pit. It was put in to help keep cleaning and repair costs down after brawls and duels; there’s only one main rule to remember when it comes fights in the pit, they are to the death; so don’t find your way in unless you can win your way out.” Looking at the faces of his audience, Raschen asked “I feel like I just taught a class; so what are your questions?” (Reply any) Once the CSEC had finished with his briefing and all questions had been answered, Ahmed looked to Sullivan. (Reply any) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge - 2O/CTAC - Lieutenant T'Larah Sullivan -1119) "Mister Sullivan, what is the tactical assessment of Orion star ship design? What are we likely to encounter and what do we need to be wary of?" "Frankly Sir, almost anything. Orion designers aren't very original, they steal technology from other races and incorporate it into their ship. Fortunately they still use a credit form of currency so unless they obtain it by force, they usually have to buy it and that works in our favor, because ship's Captains and builders sometimes have to go with the lowest bidder, which means lower quality." She paused briefly to gather her thoughts, then continued. "If Orion vessels followed a trend, it's small, maneuverable and heavily armed, usually fitting the most weapons, shields and technology as the ship herself can carry. Leaving little room for amenities. They are also not beyond working together for a large goal. So if a lucrative objective presents it self, say a Federation ship of the line, Captains of perhaps even rival ships may quickly seek to work together toward their common goal." she said. T'Larah took a yellow isolinear chip out of her pocket and placed it in the reader. The black screen over the Captain's right shoulder animated with the three color schematic displaying a ship of design only familiar to those who have spent a lot of time in Orion space. " This is a typical star ship found in Orion space. Her main mission was assault." she informed the gathered crew, "While this is presented as a 'typical' design, ships vary from captain to captain and mission to mission. This design is of a captured pirate ship some 75 years ago, so almost all designs will be updated to more modern configurations. As you can see," she pushed a few buttons and the once green shell of the design turned a darker hue and the weapon emplacements turned a much brighter crimson highlighting them. "This ship has numerous weapon emplacements. Ten disruptor banks, covering mostly the port-forward-starboard and port-aft-starboard firing arcs. Twelve torpedo launchers on port and starboard firing arcs, totaling twenty-four." Sullivan pushed a few more buttons and the screen switched from a schematic to a simulation. In the center of the screen was a small Star Fleet vessel, an Akira class situated in standard orbit around a planet with two moons. On the other side of the planet was a make up of the Orion vessel. "The most likely tactic this vessel would employ is a rush in from behind a moon, planetoid or other large celestial body," and as she said it the Orion vessel increased speed to overtake the Akira. Using the moons as cover it swooped around to a vulnerable direction for an attack on the Akira. "Then they fire disruptors to soften the target, and when they get to optimal range, they broad side and fire all twelve of their torpedoes on that one side taking down the target." The Orion ship rounded the moon and immediately began a barrage of pulse disruptor fire on the unsuspecting Akira. The disruptors disabled her impulse engines and she slowed to a crawl. The Orion Attacker made a sharp turn to starboard, exposing her deadly torpedoes and twelve bright red projectiles finished off the Star Fleet vessel. The screen went dark and orange letters appeared on the screen. [End Simulation] "The Orions have been this way for over 100 standard years, probably longer, so they can make nearly impossible things work. They can and do employ pack tactics to take down larger vessels. Their amalgam designs are their strength and their weakness as well. Their may be individual pieces that with knowledge of them we may be able to use them to our advantage. Expect heavy 'borrowing' from races such as Klingons, the Breen and even with our recent civil war the Orions may have been able to salvage from wrecks and deadlined vessels. Looking into local salvage yards close to Orion space may yield knowledge of what they are using for parts, but would take too long to be worth the effort." (Reply Captain Salid, any with questions throughout) "I'd like for you to put together a few tactical plans for handling multiple Orion vessels at once should it come down to it. Have Ensign V'Shera assist you." "Absolutely, Sir we will have multiple contingencies. Ensign we should speak in the Tactical office after the meeting." (Reply Ensign V'Shera) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Observation Lounge - FO - Lt. Jono Janeway - 1121) Jono listen intently to Ahmeds portion of the meeting but even more so to Raschens portion. He already knew everything Ahmed was telling them but knew nothing of what the Ensign would say. He gave a good speach and Jono learned allot about the way Pirates moved around and operated; he was delightfuly suprised that the pirate syndicate had a working infastructure and a sort of govenement. Once Ens Raschen has finished he asked for questions and Jono only had one; "Mister Raschen you mentioned that if something isnt agreed upon within a vote the person who disagrees can challenge the opposition into some sort of spar? Is that government only or is it open to the general pirating public?" (Reply Raschen) Once the questions for Raschens part of the meeting were over T'Larah took over, again Jono found himself knowing a good amount of what T'Larah was already saying, being the previous Tac/Sec Chief for quite a while would pay off in these parts of the meetings. "Mister Janeway will be leading one of the away teams when we reach Barakos IV, Mister Ro'Dal will be heading the other. Jono has some assignments and information to distribute." Ahmed turned and nodded to his FO. "The floor is yours." Jono took a deep breath, he didnt have as much as either of the other two had but this was his first 'speach' as First Officer. He stood up and moved around the table. "OK. I'm not going to bore you all by going over everything which has already been said by Ensign Smith and Lt. Sulivan, Needless to say this operation is one of secrecy and diplomacy. Like Captain Salid said I myself will be leading one away team while Lt. Ro'Dal will be leading the second away team. Teams are still be finalized but you wil be notifed nearer the time." He took a breath while he inserted an isolinear chip into the console narest. With a tap of a couple of the buttons the screen at the front of the room lit up with images of weapons. He looked to the images and walked a little closer to them, "No doubt you can all see that these - well most of these are Non-Standard Starfleet Weaponary. This is the weaponary you will be carrying with you while on the planets surface or on any mission you may be sent on throughout the course of this mission. These weapons while you are on-board the Rosenante will be placed in a high-security 'safe-place' which I have set up. The weaopns will be signed in and out depedending on assignment." "To keep up appearences you will be given the same weapon for every mission. Just encase we run into the same people twice we dont want anyone suspicious of us. I've created a list out of those here which I believe to have the most experience with weaponary. The more experienced you are the more difficult of weapon you may be asked to operate. The less experience you are you may be provided with a side-arm of Federation or Starfleet make; however much older than the ones you are used to operating." "Ensign. Raschen I'd like you to make sure everyone in this room is up-to-date on how to use the weapons assigned to them before the Arbiter and his delegation come aboard." (Reply Raschen) He tapped a couple of more buttons and images of clothing appeared. "When we are down on away missions we will quite obviosuly not be in any recognisable Starfleet or Federation uniforms, nor will we be carrying any reconisable Starfleet or Federation equipment with us. On that note Ensign Smith I need you or Mr. Sheridan to syphon through the databases and find/relicate several authentic communication devices which are non-starfleet design. If need be I'd like Lt. Bird and his engineering teams to help you modify any to make them as similar as you can too what these Pirates would normall use. Perhaps Ensign Raschen can provide you with some designs." (Reply any mentioned) Jono quickly walked around the table passing out padds to all. "On these padds you'll find clothing designs and replication files for thus clothing. I've selected several garments for use on the away mission. Keep in mind we are meant to be keeping a relativley low profile, so your clothing should represent that." (Reply any) "Thats all for now, Captain." He said turning to Ahmed and nodding. Mister Janeway you will brief me on the ship's status at 1230 hours." Jono simply nodded in response. Ahmed asked for questions and then went on to tell the new officers he would like to meet them at certain times throughout the day. Once he had dismissed everyone he stood up slowly and lingered around encase anyone had any questions they didnt wish to ask infront of everyone. He was losing Lieutenant Tallos, and was ordered to have her disembark at Aldus IX. That would put his crew down a CSO and Ahmed had hoped that he would not have need of an administrator in that department for the duration of the mission. On a better note, he had just been informed that they had just taken aboard a new ACSO. It was encouraging at least that Fiacie would not be forced to maintain the department alone. The New ACSO had been sent out by Warp shuttle and had just arrived a few minutes ago. The skill of the warp shuttle pilot had been immediately apparent, since he had not requested the Rosenante to drop from warp at all. He forwarded the orders to Tallos, along with his best wishes for her future. He added his own personal recommendations and compliments to her record before having it encrypted and forwarded to BUPERS. He glanced up as the door chime enunciated. The door slid open. Just like Captain Rivers before him, the door to his ready room slid open automatically when the chime sounded as long as he wasn't in a meeting or taking a communication. His new ACSO stepped in and came to a very rigid attention. He had arrived a little over an hour ago, but had been sent to stow his personals in his quarters before arriving. "Sir, permission to come on board and assume my post?" He paused, then made a timid request. "With your permission, I'd also like to report to sickbay briefly, I seem to need a bit of a tune-up on my prosthetic." Ahmed reached out and took the PADD from the junior officer and quickly scanned through it. His idyllic memory catching every details of the other man's service records and personal history found in his dossier. "Welcome aboard Ensign Weaver." Ahmed finally said, "Stand easy or have a seat at your preference." (reply Weaver) "I take it you've settled into your quarters?" he asked the junior man. (reply Weaver) "Very good. Has anyone told you about our current mission?" (reply Weaver) "Well that's easily enough solved." Ahmed replied, "I want you to report to Doctor Caskie in Sickbay, for a complete physical and inoculations update as well as any adjustments that you may need to your prosthetic. Before you can take an active duty station you must be cleared by the CMO and the ship's acting Chief Counselor. That is currently Lieutenant Twinpoints. Once you've handled your paperwork to their satisfaction, you are to report to Lieutenant Janeway the First Officer for a mission briefing and for your shift and duty assignment. Do you have any questions concerning your orders?" (Reply Weaver) "Very good. Now that the formalities are out of the way," Ahmed replied smiling, "tell me a little bit about yourself? What is there to know about you, that I'm not going to find on this PADD?" (reply Weaver) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (U.S.S. Rosenanté - Deck 1, Captain's Ready Room - Ensign jg Dorian Weaver - 1500) Dorian was a little nervous as he stood at attention in front of his new Captain. It had taken him almost an hour to get his personals stowed in his new cabin and made his way to the bridge. Not only was she beautiful, but she was huge, and intimidating. True, he had wanted to get away from Earth, as far from it as possible, but he was starting to wonder if this wasn't just a little too far. He felt completely out of his element, a lonely science junior on a ship bristling with weapons & warriors. He looked at the Captain with all the confidence he could muster, straight in the eyes, and handed over the PADD with his personnel file, a sizeable chunk of his life. "Sir, permission to come on board and assume my post?" He paused, then made a timid request. "With your permission, I'd also like to report to sickbay briefly, I seem to need a bit of a tune-up on my prosthetic." He truly hoped the sweat from his hand would go unnoticed on the PADD. ~Let's just hope I didn't sound like too much of an invalid.~ But ever since he had rushed to get his things together and get himself out of the academy, he'd bumped into a building corner and his knee *had* been reminding him of its existence with a certain insistence. (Reply Capt. Ahmed Ibn Salid) (Posted by Mathieu Raymond) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SS Bounty - Skipper's State Room - Vessel Master - Captain Ed Raschen - 2132) Ed leaned back in his chair as he looked through the local news casts in his PADD. It wasn't too much work getting the news feeds to him in real-time, but it was well worth the effort too, to be the first one to jump on a lucrative job. A few things caught his eye then the door chime rang. [ding] ~What now?~ He thought annoyed. "If you aren't an insanely beautiful woman, you'd better go away." he stated. "Skipper.." came an obviously male baritone. "That does not sound like a woman." he said, his crew had learned quickly what it meant, get to the point. "Message, Skip, it's family." said the voice. "Well in that case.." he said his tone got lighter, and he accessed the door control from his PADD and opened the door, revealing the only crewman he could trust with sensitive information on his crew, his Boatswain, or Bos'n for short. The Bos'n held up a red isolinear chip. Ed nodded, "Send it." The Bos'n gave the chip a light toss, and Ed snatched it out of the air with practiced ease, inserted the chip into his PADD and read the contents. "Have the Quarter Master set course for Barakos IV, warp 2." he said. "Trouble?" asked the Bos'n. "No," Easy Ed smiled, "family reunion." Ed got to writing his response. The Skipper looked up and the Bos'n was still standing there, "Now, mister." he said in a stern tone. The Bos'n left for the bridge. (Reply Ensign Raschen if you wish, None) (Posted by Todd) ************************************************** (USS Rosenante – Bridge– aCSEC - ENS Chance Raschen - 0940) Chance sat at the security station, reading the personal message that had just come in for him. He had a hunch that someone not onboard the Rose had read his mail. He smiled as he read it though “I’ll be damned”. He then changed his focus to look at the man sitting in the command chair. Getting up from his seat, Chance walked down to the captain’s location; crouching down the CSEC spoke quietly “I just received a message from the Bounty sir.” (Reply Salid, Janeway, Sullivan) Handing Salid the PADD with the message displayed on it “Ed sends that things are still mostly the same as when I was there last and that he will meet me and my ‘couple of buddies’ whom I will have with me, at our usual table in the Treasure Chest Complex sir.” (Reply Salid, Janeway, Sullivan) Smiling sheepishly and looking around to see, then back at the skipper “Overlooking the Pit sir, railing side table on the 3rd level. That would be the bordello sir.” (Reply Salid, Janeway, Sullivan) (Reply Salid, Janeway, Sullivan) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Bridge– - CO- Capt. Ahmed Ibn Salid- 0945) Ahmed sat in the command chair reviewed ship's status reports. From all indications the ship was running at near perfect efficiency, as a result the captain was in a particularly good mood and his pleasure at the performance of his crew was shown in his smile. Raschen was manning the security station and so far Ahmed could not be anything but impressed with the young officers skill. He had a tough act to follow, since Jono had vacated the position to assume the role of Acting First Officer. Mister Dralar kept the ship firmly on course and had been providing an occasional updated ETA as they neared their destination. Smith and Sheridan were keeping the operations department busy with the preparations for the Arbiter and the delegations that may or may not accompany him. Ahmed had just reviewed the reports from the Engineering department and was very pleased that Lieutenant Bird was doing such a fine job. He glanced over at the Engineering station on the Bridge which was unmanned and frowned. ~Surely Paul would like to get some bridge time now and again?~ he asked himself. He remembered how when he was CEO, that he had almost never stepped on the bridge. He had felt a little isolated and alone and definitely not well informed about what was happening on the ship. His thoughts on the matter were interrupted by Raschen moving close to his chair and then crouching down as if to deliver something in confidence to the CO. “I just received a message from the Bounty sir.” the CSEC said. "I see and what was the message?" Ahmed asked. "Ed sends that things are still mostly the same as when I was there last and that he will meet me and my ‘couple of buddies’ whom I will have with me, at our usual table in the Treasure Chest Complex sir." Ahmed nodded, "And may I inquire as to the particulars of your usual table?" The CSEC smiled sheepishly before looking around and then finally answered, “Overlooking the Pit sir, railing side table on the 3rd level. That would be the bordello sir.” "The Bordello?" Ahmed replied, not because of what had been said, but more because of the apparent discomfort that had caused the younger officer. "I see. Well, such things are to be expected Mister Raschen, after all Barakos IV would be a poor representation of a Pirate haven without it's due share of Bordellos, wouldn't you agree?" (reply Raschen) "Thank you Mister Raschen" Ahmed said smiling, "I quite get the picture." The CO turned and regarded Jono. "Mister Janeway you have the Bridge, I'll be in my ready room. Please notify Mister Bird that I'd like to see him there." (reply Janeway) Ahmed vacated the Command Chair and moved across the bridge to Sullivan's station. In a low voice, he said, "Mister Sullivan, please speak with doctor Caskie to determine if there are any inhibitors for the pheromones excreted by Orion women. If so, have her put together some inoculations to be distributed to any members of the away teams prior to their departure from the ship." (reply Sullivan) Ahmed nodded then continued to his ready room to await Lieutenant Bird. "Absolutely sir; I'm 36 and I can still remember the things I learned in that place when I was just a teenager sir." "Thank you Mister Raschen" Ahmed said smiling, "I quite get the picture." The CO turned and regarded Jono.
