The massive panoramic view of the stars as they slid by at warp speed was strangely mutable under his gaze. Ahead of him he knew that there were three of his heaviest and most experienced starships, just as he knew another three lay behind the V'nek. He swirled the snifter of Andorian brandy for a few rotations and lifted the glass to his lips. He had not left Meldovia since he had been born because of the war that raged between his people and the Arturians. The war had raged for almost 400 standard years with neither side able to get a distinct tactical advantage. Military fleet engagements had ended long ago and to see a fleet of six ships was a thing of the past. The fighting had degenerated into a swirling melee between raiders and a defense ship or two. The raiders would attack outposts, and shipping lines, and occasionally when there were enough of them, the enemies home planet directly. It had been that way since before he was born and it would have stayed this way had it not been for the unassailable logic of the Vulcan Arbiter that had finally brought the two warring peoples together to hammer out a lasting peace agreement that would hopefully end the war forever. That was why he was midway between Meldovia and Arturia; to ensure the fragile ceasefire would blossom into a long-term peace through combining the royal houses of the two worlds into a single unified government, ruling both. The warp drives of the Cartenian species were slow inefficient things. They could hit a top speed of warp five which was reserved for the military ships. The refitted freighter turned royal transport was slower achieving only a maximum speed of warp three. It was slow going and that meant that the prince had plenty of time to think about what he needed to do to bring things together once he arrived on Arturia. There were loyalists on both sides who would want him dead, thus the heavy escorts. And then there were the nobility who would try to block any effective combining of the two houses. He shook his head and quaffed the last of his brandy. He had worked long and hard for peace between his people and those of their enemy. He was only glad that there was a counter part among the Arturians who wanted peace as badly as he did. He set the snifter on the small table near the platform and turned back to regard the small specks that represented his advance escorts. The glow of their drives seemed so small compared to the streaks made by the stars. The vastness of the cosmos almost engulfed him for a moment as a shudder ran through his body. He was awestruck by the sheer beauty of the sight before him and this strengthened his desire for peace, to share it with more of his people who would now go forth as traders and visitors to other systems. As he stood there staring out into the vastness, tracking the dim blue glows of the engines of his escorts, he saw something that at first he did not understand. Each of the dim blue glows flared into a brilliant flare of blue green light which despite it's brilliance quickly faded into nothingness. He strained to find the dimmer engine glow again, but was unable to do so. That is when the ship rocked hard and the escort dropped out of warp. Angkor was thrown forward by the sudden lurch against the clear metal bulkhead that comprised his vantage point. He rebounded, in a very unprincely fashion from the bulkhead and sprawled out on the floor as the ship suddenly shook in a rhythmic pulsing that reminded him of a photon mortar barrage. The prince pulled himself to his feet despite the tremors. He turned and started across the room with the intention to know what was happening. A strange hum followed by a buzz filled the room and suddenly before him a group of three Orion males appeared in his stateroom. There was the sound of weapons fire beyond the doors to his chamber and Angkor knew immediately what was happening. "Hello your highness." The First Orion spoke to him, "I humbly invite you aboard our ship for a visit." The other two Orion heavies laughed at Angkor's expense. "I'm afraid I must refuse, I have a pressing dinner engagement elsewhere." the prince replied in a cheeky manner. "I'm afraid I insist." the Orion said, then made a hand gesture that set the other two Orions in motion. They were larger than he, but Angkor was a prince and he would not allow himself to be taken prisoner without a fight. He resisted, punching and biting and even kicking until finally, despite his efforts, the two Orion ruffians had managed to pin him to the deck of the ship. The largest of the Orions and the apparent leader stepped forward and knelt next to the princes head. He lowered his mouth close to the royal ear and spoke softly, "Welcome to slavery your highness." With a swift motion The Orion slavers had Angkor on his feet and the leader was calling for transport. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Orion Slaving Vessel- Holding Cells- Prince- Angkor Khamal- 1215) The Prince was unceremoniously shoved into a holding cell with a variety of other prisoners who would be slaves soon. He had been chained with Ion cuffs and thrown in among the others as if he were a commoner. It was then that he realized how dire his situation was. He was nothing more than a commodity here and when he reached whatever slave market they were bound for, they would sell him and along with him any hopes that his people had for peace. Angkor slumped down against the bars and wept. And while the other prisoners probably thought it was to bemoan his own fate, in truth it was to bemoan the fate of his people. (reply none) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Planet Arturia, Royal Palace; Diplomatic Housing - Vulcan Arbiter T'val - 0714) The door chime rang once. T'val ignored it, whoever it was quite obviously knew this was the time that he used to meditate. It had been a long day or two, since the Prince had gone missing enroute to Arturia their had been an uproar. The Meldovians were accusing the Arturians of abducing their prince therefore making the peace treaty they had signed worthless and the Arturians were accusing the Meldovians of abducting their own prince in an attempt to defy the Meldovians wishes. Either side could have been correct and it would un-doubtedly lead to another war if the situation wasnt diffused quickly. The Arbiter had stayed upon the planets surface while communicating with his superiors, it had been a couple of hours ago when he had been notified a Starfleet vessel would be coming to help the Arbiter keep peice. The chime rang again. The vulcan stood up. Logically whoever was outside had some rather important news to be interuppting him with. The door opened. His aide came rushing in, a young starfleet officer herself, a woman full of emotion. The vulcan had protested agaisnt her assignment but they had insisted he had a non-vulcan aide. "Yes, Ensign Varellia?" He said as she almost fell over the seat behind her. "It's the Meldovians, Sir. They're meeting the Arturians in battle. Both sides have sent strike forces out." She said in a hurry. The vulcan shook his head a little more violently than he meant too. "Ready my ship, Ensign." The young woman ran back out of the room. The vulcan collected his things and made for a quick exit. He'd contact the authorities once they were airbourne. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Vulcan Ship Tharal - Vulcan Arbiter T'val - 0725) "Get both the Arturian and Meldovian officials on the comm as soon as we are in communication range." He said to the captain as he entered the bridge. The captain nodded to him, he didnt question T'vals orders anymore, he used to... at the beginning of this conflict; but it had been many years now and many unanswered questions were still unanswered in his eyes; However he was younger and inexperienced. The vulcan sat down in the chair next to the CO and waited. Time passed and it was closer to 0800 hours once he got the nodd. "Officals in communication, distance Sir. Hailing them." Two faces appeared on the viewing screen infront of the Vulcan Arbiter. "and what in the name of Logic do you think you are doing?" The arbiter said as he stood up infront of the screen. "This is not how we act while under a peace treaty." One of the officals looked like he was about to speak when the Arbiter spoke again, he knew how to deal with these people now. After years of negotiating he wasnt about to let it all go down the pan. "I have some allies coming into help us. They will conduct an investigation and we will find the Prince. Until then I ask for both sides to stand down and meet my ship at these co-ordinates." He looked at the conn officer and he quickly posted co-ordinates at the borders of both species 'acclaimed' space. "We will see you there." One of the officials said as the link closed. The Arturian officials stayed longer but said the same then closed their link to the ship. "Get the ship to those co-ordiantes. As quickly as possible" He said to the captain as he sat back down. He turned to his aide, "Find out which ship Starfleet is sending. Bring me the backgrounds on their senior officers." "Yes, Sir." He had been transferred again to the Rosenante as an Operations staff member. He had learned just before his departure the OPS Chief would eventually be Tom Jackson with whom he had served on the NIMITZ and HADES. Phil smiled. Tom Jackson was a decent officer and not afraid to listen to his enlisted charges. He and Jackson worked well together and the assignment should be decent. Sheridan was not sure who the acting OPS chief would be was but he would work with whomever it was. Phil had been up and down rank wise a few times over the last 30 years. Letting his mind drift during the long ride, Sheridan had been ready to retire but the conflict between Admiral Doernitz and everyone else had broken into the open and ended all retirements for the near future. He was still mad about this - he had worked out a sweet deal with a Ferengi he knew named Pez. SF retirement pay was OK but Pez was offering him a lot of latinum. Somehow the deal though made him ill at ease. Phil's thought returned to the future as he got nearer the Rosenante. (Reply: None/Any) (Posted by: Bill West) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Ready Room- CO- Capt. Ahmed Ibn Salid- 0901) Ahmed stood regarding the newly arranged Arabic texts in his newly installed enclosed book case. The new case had been hand made in Cairo from the wood of the Gum Arabica tree and fitted with frosted glass doors. it completely spanned the entirety of the aft wall of the ready room and already Ahmed had added his Arabic copies of 1001 Arabian nights as well as several highly valued copies of Arabian poets in silk. His copy of the Koran sat in a place of honor, situated on a silk cloth, heavily embroidered with gold and silver thread. Glass bottles and small examples of Islamic cultural boxes and pottery were prominently displayed As was a series of silken Arabic scroll books with caps of gold and silver, neatly stacked for proper display. the more conventional books lined the outer edges of the shelves and covered a variety of topics ranging from Earth history of the middle eastern Region to archeological guides and language primers for ancient middle eastern languages. There were pieces from ancient Samaria, Arabia, The Ottoman empire, the Omar Khanate as well as Babylonian and Jihad era relics dating back to the crusades. Ahmed was proud of his family heritage, and while these items appeared to be genuine to all but the most skilled of observers, he was not foolish enough to have something that priceless on display where it may be destroyed or damaged. The Originals were all in museums where they had been donated by Ahmed ancestors throughout the ages. From the blade of Damascus steel wielded by his greatest ancestor Saladin to a nine foot by twelve foot silk scroll detailing his families long lineage over 2000 years of Earth history, they were all in some manner a part of the Salid family tradition. He reached forward and slightly adjusted one of the oil lamps and carefully closed the glass door to the book/display case. He turned his attentions them to trying to decide where he would place the two potted date palms that his uncle had sent him on hearing the news of his promotion. He shifted one of the palms into a corner, noting that already it was showing signs of bearing date fruits. The other seemed a bit less willing to adapt and so Ahmed placed it in the opposite corner behind his desk. He just hoped that the broad leaves of the palm wouldn't become an irritant, otherwise he may have to move it to his quarters. There was a chirp as a communications channel was opened to the ready room. =^=Captain, I have a priority one message from Starfleet command for you sir. Admiral Talbot.=^= Ahmed sighed before replying, "Put it through to my ready room." Ahmed stopped fussing with the palm and took at seat at his desk. He raised the fold-down monitor and activate the view screen. The logo of the United Federation of Planets was replaced by the stern looking face of Admiral James Talbot. The Admiral's hair had grayed slightly at the temples since Ahmed had seen him at a lecture on understanding interstellar politics at the Academy some time ago. but that had been years ago, Ahmed had been a freshman at the academy and Talbot was there simply to deliver a lecture. The man's eyes were sharp and Ahmed noticed them drift upwards past him to the leaves of the date palm that was situated behind his desk. "Good morning Admiral, to what do I owe the pleasure." "Captain Salid, Congratulations on your recent captaincy." "Thank you admiral." =^=We have a situation, Ahmed,=^= the admiral began although Salid had never been on a first name basis with the admiral, or any admiral for that matter. That meant whatever it was it was going to be unpleasant. =^=And after some consideration the Admiralty has decided that the Rosenante is the best qualified ship to help us resolve it.=^= Ahmed nodded, "I see, and what is the situation that needs resolution Admiral?" =^=Two days ago the Prince of the Meldovian Royal House was abducted while on his way to a diplomatic meeting with the Arturian prince.=^= =^=The Meldovians and the Arturians have been at war for the last 400 standard years. And this is where our problem happens. The princes escort was attacked by what we believe to be Orion Pirates. There have been no demands for ransom and his exact whereabouts are unknown.=^= =^=We believe that he is being held somewhere in Orion Space close to the Cartenian border. To further complicate things, all the ship's in the immediate area are busy with critical patrol duty to discourage further Orion activity. The Rosenante is equipped with a state-of-the-art cloaking system and the admiralty has decided that she would be best put to use infiltrating Orion Syndicate space tasked with the mission of recovering the prince and transporting him to Arturia.=^= =^= The Rosenante will be on her own. The fleet is still stretched thin Ahmed and we can not afford an incident that encourages the Orion Syndicate to increase their pirating activities on the Federation border. Therefore if your vessel is captured, the UFP will be forced to declare the vessel rogue.=^= Ahmed nodded solemnly. "So it's a covert operation then?" he asked for clarification. =^= Yes, officially you'll be given a letter of Marques. Which means...=^= "Which means you want us to act as privateers in order to accomplish this mission." Ahmed finished. =^= Nothing quite that harsh, Salid. I still expect you to uphold the laws of the UFP, but we can not officially order you to enter Orion space without either an invitation or a declaration of war. You will get neither.=^= Ahmed nodded. "I understand admiral. My crew and I are at the disposal of the UFP." The admiral's features softened and he smiled. =^= Excellent. I'll transmit over to you some additional information where you will be meeting with the Arbiter. We thought it prudent that he should be present.=^= "Understood admiral." =^= The Arbiter is working out a deadline to satisfy all the parties involved currently he'll advise you on your arrival.=^= Ahmed nodded. =^=Good Luck captain.=^= "Thank you sir." The image of the admiral disappeared and was once again replaced by that of the UFP logo. Ahmed tapped his commbadge. "It seems the prince was abducted. At current there has been no claim of responsibility nor ransom made for his safe return. At the request of the Vulcan Arbiter T'val, whom has engineered the peace accord, Starfleet command has opted to send the Rosenante into Orion space with the mission to locate, recover and extract the prince in time to get him to the peace proceedings." "We will be using the Rosenante's stealth systems for the first time. Command has made it very clear that the fleet is still thinly stretched and that our detection in Orion Space could agitate the frontier by causing an increase in Pirate activity in this sector. That said, if this ship or any of her crew are captured we will be officially disavowed." "There is little intelligence available to indicate which ship or pirate group may be behind this abduction, so with that in mind, we will be forced to put an away team into Orion space at Barakos IV. In order to help us collect intelligence and hopefully point us in the correct direction." "Barakos IV is a known safe haven for Pirates, smugglers and criminals, but it's proximity to the point of the attack makes it an ideal starting place for our infiltration." "Before we can head to Orion space we have been ordered to meet Arbiter T'val and take him aboard, should his services be needed when and if we locate the prince. Additionally have Mister Matrix and Mister Bird perform a complete systems check performed on all stealth systems. I'd like a report of their findings at the meeting. Also I understand that we will be getting two new transfers, SCPO Sheridan whom I served with on the Nimitz and Ensign V'Shera a Vulcan security officer. (reply Sullivan, Janeway, Raschen, Any) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Captain's Ready Room - 2O/CTAC Lieutenant T'Larah Sullivan - 0913) "It seems the prince was abducted. At current there has been no claim of responsibility nor ransom made for his safe return. At the request of the Vulcan Arbiter T'val, whom has engineered the peace accord, Starfleet command has opted to send the Rosenante into Orion space with the mission to locate, recover and extract the prince in time to get him to the peace proceedings." ~ I was unaware that the Federation had such an agreement with the Orion Syndicate. ~ T'Larah thought, eager to learn the details of this mission. "We will be using the Rosenante's stealth systems for the first time. Command has made it very clear that the fleet is still thinly stretched and that our detection in Orion Space could agitate the frontier by causing an increase in Pirate activity in this sector. That said, if this ship or any of her crew are captured we will be officially disavowed." ~ I shall have to brush up on my cloaking systems operation.~ T'Larah cursed herself silently and stoically for not being more familiar with her new assignment. "There is little intelligence available to indicate which ship or pirate group may be behind this abduction, so with that in mind, we will be forced to put an away team into Orion space at Barakos IV. There is also a possibility that we may be taking on a small delegation from both parties interested in these peace accords." "Mister Sullivan I will need you to start looking at tactical data to give us an idea what we might be facing if we encounter Orion Pirates." "Yes sir, I will look over recent intelligence read-outs, to see what vessels are likely in the area." she responded. Then the Captain addressed the other two officers, the junior then the senior, on why they specifically were brought in on this mission. With all loose ends tied up the Captain finished with, "Any questions?" "None, sir, but one caveat, for the non-standard Starfleet weapons, as much as we'd like to think it doesn't happen, pirates can and have gotten their hands on Starfleet weapons, so a mix could be more appropriate. Perhaps more out-dated weapons, but still just as lethal?" Shrugging his shoulders, Chance answered “That’s no problem sir; it’s been about 4 years since I was last there myself. However, I do have a request, a suggestion or 2, and a couple of concerns that need to be addressed sir.” After the skipper and Lt. The down time was welcome, but the crew seemed tense. Matrix felt tense too. Matrix leaned back from the engineering station and tapped the command button to initiate alpha-four-three-one shield modulation program on the secondary dorsal shield generators. ~Okay, lets see what this does.~ After a few moments the telemetry appeared on the display screen and Matrix smiled. "Good, glad to see you're working properly." said Matrix. "Sir?" responded the nearest crewman. Matrix looked over at the crewman working in the next station and chuckled. "Sorry crewman, thinking out loud. Please don't pay any attention to me. I often do that." replied Matrix. "Yes sir. Can I be of any help to you?" responded the crewman. Matrix stood up and adjusted his uniform, "Nope, not unless you happen to be a replicator and can make me a tall Pikes Place, extra hot, with cream?" Matrix smiled at the crewman and headed into his office. The crewman smiled back and continued with his work. Smirking, Matrix took pride and satisfaction in the work he had just completed. In just over two hours he had completely rewritten the shield generator programming routines and improved efficiently by nearly 0.83%. "Wow, now that was well worth the effort don't you think Matrix?" Matrix asked himself. "Computer, store alpha-four-three-one, resume original code routine and save." Ahmed began as he finished his pleasentries. He went on to explain the mission and where they would begin, Jono stood back arched up straight and listening intently. "Mister Sullivan I will need you to start looking at tactical data to give us an idea what we might be facing if we encounter Orion Pirates." Ahmed said after briefing them. Although starfleet keep their weapon designs a secret mostly, the more older weapons I could see to have been procured during conflicts. That could be a possibility." (Reply any) Once that conversation had died down Jono could see that Ensign Raschen had something to say, infact it looked like hed been waiting to say what he wanted to for a while now. ”Sir” Chance started “I suggest we get all the dependants, especially the children, off the vessel when we take on the transfers and delegation just incase we get captured. He disagreed. "If I may, Captain." He said to Ahmed,. "I would whole heartedly agree with Ensign Raschens security measure or removing any non-essential crew from the ship on this mission. There is no need for them to be here and it may cloud any judgements we may need to make. It is more of a risk to have them onboard for this mission." Do you know what would - I assume - would happen if we flew directly into Smugglers Air Space with this ship and you as its Captain, declaring you had stolen it? I dare say we would still be attacked. The Orion Pirates are well known for the corrupt power struggles and this ship would be of great value to any of the big crime bosses. Maybe if we could acquire a small pirate vessel that would go more un-noticed, however driving the Rosenante head-first into the Pirates Fist un-stealthed is definetly not recommended by me." Jono tried to say what he said in an un-resentful way as he didnt want to give the Ensign the feeling of self-doubt or the feeling that the ships FO didnt like him. (reply any) (Posted by Jono) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - CMO's Office - Lt (sg) Josh Caksie - Sickbay - 0915) It had been a boring few weeks since their last mission, but Josh was quite happy living with boring. Boring meant that she and her staff actually got some down time. Most of them had quite happily spent their free time socialising and Josh was quite happy to let them do so. But for once she had not joined them, since she simply had not felt like it since coming on board the Rose after the battle for Earth and the MDP. At first she had attributed it to the after effects of her breakdown and hoped that eventually everything would sort itself out once she got back to work. And it had for a time during their last mission. Josh had found herself in the middle of something that could have wiped out at least half of the galaxy if she wasn't careful, and that had most certainly taken her out of the fug she usually found herself in. Once that problem had been solved however she had simply found herself in the middle of another one, and one that this time she could not solve. Both Susan and Kitty had been assigned to other ships almost that very same day and Josh suddenly found herself without her two best friends. That drove her deeper in the fug she normally walked around in and it had gotten to the stage that most of her staff tended to keep their distance from her now. Josh knew in her heart that this was not a good thing and she had decided to make an appointment with the Counselling Department. On checking however, she realised that the entire department consisted of Ensign Trent and no-one else. ~Oh lord Josh, and you thought you had problems.~ Smiling to herself she decided not to speak to the Counsellor at present and simply carried on with what was, for some odd reason, still classed as paperwork. She had worked her way through at least half of the pile of padds on her desk when she was interrupted by someone at her door. "Come" As the door opened Josh looked up and could see Kawalski standing there. Her stomach dipped right down to her feet and just as fast again came right back up again and hit her in her throat. Although Josh had been expecting this for at least the last month she still wasn’t happy to see him standing there since she knew exactly what it meant. "Leon, come in, sit down, what can I do for you?" Kawalski came tentatively into the room and stood in front of the desk, until Josh finally deciding that enough was enough, lost her temper with him. "Oh for pities sake Leon sit down and tell me what the problem is." Leon sat, took a deep breath and spoke quickly. "Sir, I wish to resign from Starfleet and I would like to leave as soon as a transfer can be arranged.” Josh heaved a huge sigh. Another problem to plague her and another friend that she would be losing. She crossed to one of the cabinets, took out her very rarely used bottle of Scapa and two glasses and sitting back down, poured each of them a drink. Pushing one of the glasses across the table to Kawalski she picked up her own and sipped it. “I know it’s hard Leon. I miss Kitty too, but are you really sure about this?” A nod was all the reaction she got from the other side of the table and Josh, realising that anything she said simply would not work this time, nodded her own head in agreement. “Very well, I will forward your letter of resignation to the FO with my recommendation that he facilitate it with all possible speed. Is that acceptable?” Kawalski nodded again and Josh, knowing that he was such a private person, knew that he would say little else on the matter. She picked up her glass and leant back in her chair. “I’m going to miss you, you know. Since the battle for the MDP it seems like I have done nothing but lose everyone close to me. Alice, my parents, Susan, Kitty and now you. But I suppose this is what life in the Fleet is all about and I also suppose that I am just going to have to get used to it. Next thing you know Henna-Star will be off to run her own medical department on another ship and I will have to train someone new as ACMO. Oh, what the heck, life sucks and then you die. Isn’t that what they say.” Picking up her glass and draining it Josh stepped around her desk and, as Kawalski stood, hugged him tightly. “You take care of yourself Leon ok, and I want letters, lots of letters. You hear!" As soon as he had left her office Josh read his padd and with a heavy heart forwarded it to the FO with her recommendation that it be accepted. "Humm, perhaps I could improve caffeine recipe and get a commendation from the Captain?" Matrix rubbed his head, disgusted at himself with the poor results of his programming skills. ~You're just tired Matrix...and a little rusty perhaps in shield generation sub-routines.~ Matrix sat back and looked around the room. He noted a number of new people and reflected on the crew changes recently. A new Captain and many new crew members. ~Ah...life in Star Fleet.~ reflected Matrix. "Alright, It has merit, make it happen." Ahmed replied. Next was Raschen, with a few concerns and suggestions of his own. Ahmed listened carefully to the Ensign's words. As Captain, the idea of playing a role of first mate and alluding to the possibility that his ship had been stolen were very unpalatable. They must have been the same for Jono, because before Ahmed could speak the Lieutenant intervened. "If I may, Captain." Ahmed nodded. "Nor is it my intention to do so." Ahmed added. "The Rosenante will be operating entirely in a stealth mode while we are in Orion Space. She was designed as a privateer and although she has been refitted somewhat to the role of long range explorer, she is still very well equipped to fulfill her original design role. She will covertly be acting as support for the intelligence gathering missions that we send to the surface of the planets that we may have to visit. She will not be acting in an overt or tactical manner unless we have no other choice." "While I do agree with the suggestion of removing all civilians from the ship, I'm not certain that we will be able to do so. He did notice that they didn’t shoot down the idea of contacting the Bounty and his grandpa, Easy Ed. From what Chance could tell however, the crew of the Rose was about to get a crash course in the buccaneer’s lifestyle and he didn’t want any of them hurt. ~The first lesson every buccaneer learns is to make your plans based on worst case scenarios~ he thought. After the skipper made several comments that sided with the FO, Chance’s eyes widened with surprise when he heard "Mister Raschen, if you have a means to contact your grandfather and can acquire some intelligence for us, which would be beneficial, you have my permission to do so. However, it is important that no one, including your grandfather know that the Rosenante is to be inside Orion Space, is that understood?" from the captain. “I understand sir, but he is no fool. Oh yea sir, I recommend we give the Rosenante a pseudonym for this mission? I was thinking something like ‘Seraphim’. Also if it will help, Ed might be able to rendezvous with us and take the civilians to Geneva station, or wherever, for us. The four of us can speak with him then. Is that an idea?” (Reply any) Then the captain instructed Raschen "For your part of the briefing focus on the planet and the area in general, what we can expect and where we might start our search." “That’s easy sir, start at either the Slave Auction or the Treasure Chest Entertainment Complex.” (Reply any) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Bridge- CONN - Lt. Despite his upbringing, or perhaps because of it, Dralar found the routine of maneuvering the ship and monitoring her path of travel very fulfilling. He had made friends among the senior crew and although he would miss War captain Rivers, for her ferocity and fairness, he felt that he could come to respect the new Captain as well. There was much for him to learn and Dralar suspected that he would learn it quickly, through trial and error as every captain did after they assumed the responsibility of a ship. The First Officer exited the captains ready room followed by Sullivan and Raschen. The senior officer only paused long enough to issue orders. "Mr. Smith make arrangements for any civilians aboard to be dropped off en route. Mr. Dralar extrapolate the best course to our location taking us to a friendly federation port along the way." "Aye sir" Dralar replied, then immediately set about looking for friendly Federation colonies along the route. (reply Smith) The first officer left the bridge in a hurry leaving the duty officer in command. Dralar sorted through the possible alternatives for federation outposts, performed calculations concerning speed heading and course before settling on the best choice. "Mister Smith, It seems that the Colony of Aldus IX is a good candidate." Dralar began. "It is a Federation economic center, specializing in Orion goods, situated along the route in question. If we increase our speed to Warp 8.5 and maintain that speed and spend no more than 2 hours offloading the civilians, then we will only be delayed by roughly 45 minutes." (reply Smith) In accordance to the First Officers orders, he sent the projected course change to the First Officer for his approval., until he received a direct order to shift the ship's course, he would not make any corrections to her path of travel. He placed his PADD in front of the chair and found himself wondering over in front of the large portholes that offered him a first-class view of space. The stars were streaking past the hull as their spectrums shifted as a result of the Doppler affect. If you could focus on one long enough, you could actually watch them shift from the red end of the spectrum to the blue. It was a sight that Ahmed had long found relaxing and now he understood why all the captains he had ever served under tended to stand in front of those windows and star out into the void of space. With the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, he understood now that these few precious moments mattered and were almost a prerequisite for reducing stress and tension. ~Maybe that and a good boxing match.~ Ahmed thought. He hadn't much of an opportunity to use the holodeck for sparring purposes since he'd come aboard the Rosenante. He had only recently, since becoming captain, become aware that the ship was equipped with a holographic marine. He was further intrigued to discover that it was actually programmed in, among other things, hand-to-hand course instruction. I'll be a good marine and not bugs da nurses anymore!" ~What in the?~ Ahmed wondered. ~Is this program faulty?~ Ahmed regained control of his hand from the seemingly frantic pumping action of the hologram and pulled down the front of his tunic as he tried to process the information that he had just received. "Ummm, yes hello." Ahmed began, still not clear on what had taken place. "You are the holographic marine instruction program?" (reply Ramirez) "Okay then Ramirez, what's all this about materialization access?" Ahmed asked still unclear exactly what he'd gotten himself into. (reply Ramirez) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- Holo-Marine Jose Rameriz- 1041.3) The new Captain of the vessel seemed both vaguely amused and confused by his happy greeting. Maybe he should have kissed him to show him proper appreciation? "Ummm, yes hello." Ahmed began, having reclaimed his hand and straightened his uniform in the way of officers everywhere. "You are the holographic marine instruction program?" "Well, I don'ts know so much about *instructional*, tho Captain hotbuns," he was allowed to call her that now she wasn't here, right? "did haves me teachin' stuff to Shadows an' Loren an' .. " he noticed the Captain's eyes were starting to glaze over and decided he should probably get to the meat of the matter if he wanted to regain his freedom, "Hiya, Holo-Marine Jose Rameriz, based on Lance Corporal Jose Rameriz of the.." quick database access, where had his fleshy-self ended up? "..USS Spectre." What the hell was he doing on the spook ship?? "Okay then Ramirez, what's all this about materialization access?" The Captain asked as if trying to evaluate the tactical nature of the situation he was suddenly involved in. "Oh, sees, Captain Cue- er, Rivers, gaves me access to any public place of da ship.. Could comes and goes as I like.. but I guesses I was showin' my appreciation of da talented and beautiful nurses once too often 'cause I got my freedom taken back." He tried his sad puppy look. "An' ifs I can habs it back, I'll be a good marine an' serve faithfully and helps however I cans!" he added hopefully with his best winning smile. Too bad his best winning smile always looked like it belonged on a used shuttle salesman. (Reply Salid) (Posted by Lorna) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- CO- Capt. Ahmed Ibn Salid- 1041.4) "Well, I don'ts know so much about *instructional*, tho Captain hotbuns," the Hologram replied, ~Captain hotbuns?~ He must be referring to Captain Rivers, and although he didn't approve of the reference to his previous CO, he couldn't dispute the observational powers that the Holographic marine possessed. "...did haves me teachin' stuff to Shadows an' Loren an' .. " there was a pause as the Hologram seemed to reorganize it's thought processes. "Hiya, Holo-Marine Jose Ramirez, based on Lance Corporal Jose Ramirez of the.." another almost indistinguishable pause "..USS Spectre." "Okay then Ramirez, what's all this about materialization access?" Ahmed asked still unclear exactly what he'd gotten himself into. "Oh, sees, Captain Cue- er, Rivers," ~Thought so.~ Ahmed thought, "...gaves me access to any public place of da ship.. Could comes and goes as I like.. but I guesses I was showin' my appreciation of da talented and beautiful nurses once too often 'cause I got my freedom taken back." The Marine actually pouted. "An' ifs I can habs it back, I'll be a good marine an' serve faithfully and helps however I cans!" he added hopefully with a broad smile. "And exactly what sort of appreciation were you showing?" Ahmed asked, fairly certain that if it had been too far over the line the program would have simply been deleted, rather than restricted. (reply Ramirez) "I see. " The captain replied then thought about it for a few seconds. "Do you know how to box?" (reply Ramirez) NRPG: I am assuming that he says yes or can learn to do so by downloading a program template or some such. "Good. Because effective immediately you get to be my sparring partner. In addition if you want your liberty to come and go to public portions of the ship reinstated, you will pull a normal duty shift like every other crewmember on this ship. That means a duty shift and the like. You will report to Lieutenant Smith, the Ranking Marine Officer on-board for your duty assignment." "You'll be assigned quarters which will be your personal space, and which will be maintained to regulations. And you'll start attending the senior staff meetings so that your input and abilities can be put to use." "This is of course completely dependant on your ability to discharge your duties as assigned and to avoiding complaints concerning your activities and attentions. I will completely expect you to adhere to the same standards of social tact that everyone else has and to do your duty to the best of your ability, without taking liberty to expound upon the definition of those duties beyond reason." "In return, you'll be able to come and go as you see fit in all public areas and your private quarters. But if I get any inappropriate complaints about your behavior or poor performance reports, then I'm afraid I'll have no choice but to revoke those liberties." It was then that Ahmed realized that he was speaking to the holographic marine as if he were made of flesh and blood, like the rest of his officers. He had to remind himself that holograms were nothing more than a collection of photons ,tractors and repulsors and force fields backed up by an incredibly complex computer program that was based of the neural imprint of a real marine stationed aboard the USS Spectre. "One last thing, you are not permitted to alter any of the security access settings, command lines or core data modules associated with your program without my direct permission." NRPG: In other words, you can't make it so that he will be able to disobey orders from senior officers that are in line with the law and the like, Nor can he gain unauthorized access to the ship's computer beyond what is needed for him to do his job. "That's my proposal. Do we have a deal?" (reply Ramirez) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- PITA - Holo-Jose Rameriz- 1041.5) "And exactly what sort of appreciation were you showing?" the Commander asked. "Er, well.." Jose didn't quite scuff his boots against the carpet. "I was justs tellin' dem how nice they look in dere uniforms an' how well they do their jobs?" he looked hopeful that Ahmed would buy the very watered down version. "I see. " The captain replied, not seeming to be convinced in the least. "Do you know how to box?" "You means, in da ring with gloves an' stuff?" Jose asked, brow wrinkled. (Reply Salid) "Er, wells.." He was more a punch them in the kidneys and stab them in the eye kind of guy, but he'd take what action he could get. "I cans certainly learn!" he replied enthusiastically. Rameriz then listened as the new captain listed of the 'this is what you do' and 'this is what you'll get.' Nodding whenever the Captain paused, making careful note of the costs and balances. "That's my proposal. Do we have a deal?" Rameriz snapped to attention, happy and proud to serve and have direction once more. "Yes SIR!" he said enthusiastically. "I wills not wolf whistle da nurses, I wills keep my billet and post, an' I will tries to beat up the commanding officer three times a week in a ring." (Reply Salid) He noticed crew starting to arrive, "I do haves one question.. er, Captain-sir.." (Reply Salid) "Dis doesn't make me an *officer* does it?" He really, really hoped not! (Reply Salid/any arrivals :) (Posted by Lorna) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- Sec.O/Lt. Ro'Dal - 1043) Feeling on top of her own little universe (after a very satisfying work out in the gymnasium and following sonic shower), a dapper Ro'Dal walked in to the Obs Lounge hoping to be the first to arrive but finding the new captain and a marine who was certainly not senior staff. The Takaran did a double take. Surely she wasn't mistaken, she was certain that the message she had received had stated that it was a meeting for officers and this individual was no officer. Still, the captain seemed content to have the man there so who was she to give it a second thought. With a soft greeting to the pair, she walked over to the far end of the table and sat down, bringing out a PADD to read a report on some new weaponry creations that were still undergoing research, while she waited for more arrivals and the meeting to begin, and trying not to let her curiosity about the marine get the upper hand. Dralar- 1058) Dralar stepped into the nearly full Observation lounge and took a look around. It looked as if the majority of the senior staff, if not all of it had arrived and that Dralar was one of the last to make it to the meeting. The Skorr CONN officer noted an empty seat next to Lieutenant Ro'Dal and moved to perch next to her. "Hello Lieutenant. Congratulations on your promotion and commendations. "He said, as he had not had opportunity to speak with her since the award ceremony had taken place. "I am certain that they are well earned."
