I want you two back at the Lawson residence with plenty of time to spare before nightfall. Am I understood?” “Hoo-ah sir” Chance said in reply. Raschen watched as Ahmed turned his attention to the other members of the away team, "Everyone else, we follow Ro'Dal and the detail to the target house, keep your eyes open." As the rest of the away team headed down the street, Raschen turned toward Hezan, gestured cordially in the direction of the Sheriff’s Office, and asked “Shall we?” as he started walking in the indicated direction. (Reply Hezan iyw) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck 10 - Med Bay 2 - Chief Field Medic - SCPO Nathan Fuller - 1220) "Chief, what goes in the MED KIT again?" asked one of the young med techs. ~ Green as heck, I swear.~ "OK, two hypo-sprays, the away mission sets of hypo-spray vials, which includes, the cardiostimulant, the pain-killer, and the sedative. You can also include a mission specific one, like an antibiotic or a broad-spectrum anti-venom." he explained, as he added the equipment to the sturdy field container, " Next is the auto-suture and a few lower tech alternatives." The young man nodded his head indicating his understanding. "Now get the rest of these kits ready, the away team may need them if they find some survivors or, if God forbid, anyone gets injured." he said. ~Why do the docs get all the fun? Our medics are trained for this and every away mission the doctors run to the transporter.~ Nate kept his frustrations to himself though, voicing them in front of the Joes, especially about the command staff, was not only unprofessional, it under-minded the senior command structure. (Reply Any) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony - Town Square -Security Officer- Ensign (jg) Rozar Hezan-1220.5) As the rest of the away team headed down the street, Raschen turned toward Hezan, gestured cordially in the direction of the Sheriff's Office, and asked "Shall we?" as he started walking in the indicated direction. "Of course, we should." Hezan replied, already a slight smile was spreading across his Bolian lips. He looked around for a moment before following the operations officer across the square and to the sheriff's office. He had no idea what a Sheriff was, but reasoned it must be some sort of official of the colony. He couldn't help but think about how pleasant this place would be if it were inhabited and provided, of course, that nothing gruesome had happened here as it had on the freighter. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony – Sheriff’s Office -Ops- ENS (jg) Chance Raschen-1225) Chance never really liked offices with built in jail cells, but there was something eerie about this particular one when he entered it. It was very simple in its lay-out it had 3 rooms; a lavatory; a jail section; and the main working office, waiting area, and lounge all in one. From the front door Raschen could tell what was in the other two sections because the doors were open. Looking around the front room, he noticed that one wall was covered in screens that each seemed to revolve its own set of wanted videos of different criminals. Turning to Hezan, Chance said pointing at one of the desk terminals “See what you can find on that terminal there and I’ll check the cells real quick and be right back.” (Reply Hezan) “I don’t know anything that involves sudden change in the community.” (Reply Hezan) Nodding, Chance stepped into the jail section; it had 5 cells and each one was a 3 meter cube. Once he realized that all 5 cells had NOTHING what-so-ever in any of them. As Chance went back to the main room “No bunks, toilets, or blankets, nothing at all in those cells; not even a body.” he said as he approached the other of the 2 desk terminals to start his search for clues. (Reply Hezan, room for more) (Posted by Charlie Raschen) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony– Town Square - CMO Lt (jg) Josh Caskie -1228) Josh had spent a few minutes pressed up against the outside wall of the target house waiting for Ro'dal to break in. To be honest Mr Raschen's discovery that the nanites seemed to be nocturnal worried her and she now no longer wished for any of the away team to stay overnight. As soon as the security team had broken in to the house Josh followed them. Running her tricorder round the room she realised it was clean, but she still managed to get a reading from the back wall of the house. "Commander, no one is here, however there is another room behind this wall. That is where all the anomolous readings I am picking up are coming from. I cant say for certain, but I also think there might be tunnels leading from that room back into the mountain." (Reply Salid) (posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony - Sheriff's Office -Security Officer- Ensign (jg) Rozar Hezan-1228.5) The building turned out to be some sort of detainment center. Perhaps for law breakers, and it seemed to be manned by a relatively small contingent of personnel. It was divided in to only three distinct sections. Those were administrative, detainment and the lavatory. The internal doors were open, revealing the function of the area beyond and Hezan noted with a curious interest that the area was in in good order and did not look as if it had been abandoned in a hurry. On one large wall of the administrative area there was a composite of view screens that each seemed to revolve its own set of wanted videos of different criminals, as well as static or moving video surveillance of the colony. A pair of desks sported access terminals. Turning to Hezan, Chance said pointing at one of the desk terminals "See what you can find on that terminal there and I'll check the cells real quick and be right back." Hezan nodded. "What exactly am I looking for?" "I don't know anything that involves sudden change in the community." "very well." the Bolian replied and took a seat at the console. Nodding, Chance stepped into the jail section; disappearing from sight as Hezan set about trying to access the terminal indicated. The system was simple and Hezan found that his Starfleet security clearances gained him immediate access to the systems. He now understood that a 'Sheriff' was another term used for 'Constable.' He pulled up a couple of logs and decided that since the colony had grown silent two weeks ago, that would be as good a place to start as any. He quickly scanned for the first couple of log entries. They were mundane, and Hezan could not see any reason why they might be relevant to the situation at hand. That's when he noticed a log entry header that caught his eye. It said simply, [Opened missing persons Report, Abraham Monson Star date 2407.12.25] Hezan thought that a bit conspicuous since that was a traditional holiday for humans, who comprised almost the entirety of the population of the Davros III colony. ~What would someone be doing on a celebratory day that would cause them to go missing?~ he thought. Without another moment wasted, he opened the file, turned up the volume and listened as the Sheriff recanted the incident in his own words. =^= Official Log, Sheriff Carl Moody, Star date 2407.12.25, 1500 hours=^= The recording began. The man making the narration was older, perhaps in his late fifties, although Rozar was anything other than a solid judge of human aging. He looked tired. =^= Earlier this morning I received a report from Leeann Monson, the wife of Abraham Monson, indicating that her husband did not return home from his shift last night. Missus Monson claims that she had turned in early so as to be well rested for the traditional family Christmas Morning festivities. She reported the odd absence of her husband at 0700 hours this morning, once it became apparent that her husband had not made it home the night before.=^= The man ran his hand through his thinning gray hair, then picked up a cup which contained some liquid of some sort. Hezan glanced down at the desk top. The same cup sat half finished just a short distance from where the Bolian was sitting. A film of mold was now floating on the liquid contents. He turned his attention back to the monitor as the log continued. =^=Thinking that perhaps Mister Monson may have gotten himself involved in a domestic liaison with someone other than his wife last night I decided to check into the accounts, just to make certain that he wasn't actually missing. I started by speaking to a few of his co-workers, men and women who were on his same shift. Of course the mine was closed for the holiday, so I was forced to disturb these people at their homes. After speaking with them, everyone I questioned, claimed that Monson had not been seeing anyone else and that he had left the mine at the end of his shift.=^= The man furrowed his brow as he continued. =^=Further inquiries with mining officials indicated that they had shut down the operation for the holiday, ending with the 2nd shift. They verified that everyone was cleared out of the mines. They keep a close record of whom is on property in case of an accident. I have no leads at this time. I am hoping that perhaps he simply went somewhere other than home, although I would think that I would have been able to find him using his locator. He does not show up on any of the mine systems as being present nor has his locator indicated that he is in distress. I suppose it may be possible that it has malfunctioned although I find that unlikely. End of log.=^= Hezan frowned, this could be the beginning of a trend. The sheriff seemed very concerned that someone should go missing. That indicated that it was not a normal occurrence. Ensign Raschen returned to the main room "No bunks, toilets, or blankets, nothing at all in those cells; not even a body." he said as he approached the other of the 2 desk terminals to start his search for clues. "It seems that I may have found a possible starting place, for the disappearances. The Sheriff left a log concerning a miner named Monson. It appears that he disappeared sometime on the night of star date 2407.12.24. I recommend that we search through other logs made after that date to get a better idea of what is happening." (Reply Raschen room for more) (Posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony – Sheriff’s Office -Ops- ENS (jg) Chance Raschen-1230) Have you ever gone looking for something, not knowing what it was; only to wish you hadn’t started your search when you find what you were looking for? "It seems that I may have found a possible starting place, for the disappearances. The Sheriff left a log concerning a miner named Monson. It appears that he disappeared sometime on the night of star date 2407.12.24. I recommend that we search through other logs made after that date to get a better idea of what is happening." “Sounds like a plan; where was he last seen, and what does he look like?” Chance asked. (Reply Hezan) “I’ll go ahead and try to download the mines security feeds of Monson’s last whereabouts on shift before leaving then. You?” (Reply Hezan) Chance nodded his head saying “okay” then sat down in a dusty chair and started working. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony - Sheriff’s Office -Security Officer- Ensign (jg) Rozar Hezan-1235) "It seems that I may have found a possible starting place, for the disappearances. I recommend that we search through other logs made after that date to get a better idea of what is happening." “Sounds like a plan; where was he last seen, and what does he look like?” Chance asked. Hezan pulled up the colonist records and forwarded it to the second terminal so that the operations officer could review the file for Abraham Monson. "I've pulled the files and sent them to that other terminal sir," the Bolian said. "The last time I have a confirmation of his whereabouts was his final shift at the mine on the night of the 24th. The sheriff seemed to indicate that there were several other that had seen him exit the mine at the end of the shift, although the sheriff could not account for his disappearance." “I’ll go ahead and try to download the mines security feeds of Monson’s last whereabouts on shift before leaving then. You?” Raschen said. "Why don't I see if I can find anything else that indicates other missing miners or colonists?" Hezan suggested. Chance nodded his head saying “okay” (Davros III Mining Colony – Sheriff’s Office -Security Officer- Ensign (jg) Rozar Hezan- 1248) Hezan had been reviewing several logs looking for any other mention of missing persons. He had just discovered something significant when Raschen spoke to him. “Hezan, I’m forwarding a security recording to that terminal for you to see.” Rozar activated the forwarded file and watched in horror as the man that they had identified as Monson was attacked by something deep in the mines, then dragged away by an unseen, or at least, unidentified assailant. "It seems to confirm what I just discovered." the Bolian security officer replied, then continued, " The sheriff reported his final log entry on Stardate 2407.12.26 at 1000 hours. "It seems that during the day/night of the 25th several colonists went missing. The common denominator was their proximity to the mine. The sheriff assembled a group of able bodied men, which he called a posse, and they went into the mine to investigate sometime after 1000 hours. I would venture to say that they were successful in finding the cause of the disappearance, although they were unable to give us any further information." The Bolian paused for a moment. He didn't want to say what he knew came next." It seems that we will need to conduct a search of the mines if we are to get to the bottom of this." “We need to get a copy of the plans of those mine shafts; NO, better yet we need the Rose to scan for all the mine shafts and tunnels incase some aren’t on the plans.” =^= Salid to Raschen and Hezan=^= “This is Raschen, sir we found something.” he said after tapping his comm.-badge. =^=We've found something interesting at the Lawson residence. Finish up what you're doing and head this way. I'd like to have your report in person inside 15 minutes. =^= “Roger that; be advised that the sun looks like it will be setting in the next couple of hours sir.” Once the conversation with the First officer was finished, Hezan turned back to the Operations Officer. "It was my understanding that tngonium was very disruptive of sensors. We may not be able to scan those mines even from the Rose." (reply Raschen) Rozar picked up his phaser rifle, double checked the setting and stood. "Ready to go when you are sir." he added. (reply Raschen) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony– Lawson Residence- FO- Lt. Cmdr. Ahmed Ibn Salid-1245) Ahmed watched with a sense of apprehension as the security team made their way into the residence of Doctor Lawson. Time seemed to slow as he waited for word from the security team, A few minutes after the assault began, Ahmed spotted Ro'Dal signaling from the front door of the residence. Ahmed nodded and signaled back then said in a clear voice, "Okay let's see what there is to see." He stood from his crouched position and led the away team forward. Caskie had apparently followed the Security team into the building and as Ahmed entered through the broken entry way, she spoke to him. "Commander, no one is here, however there is another room behind this wall. That is where all the anomalous readings I am picking up are coming from. I cant say for certain, but I also think there might be tunnels leading from that room back into the mountain." Ahmed took a good look at the wall, then lifted his own tricorder to get a scan of the wall. He confirmed the abnormal readings as well as a few ghostly images of what might well be a tunnel or tunnels leading away towards the mining site. "Great" he muttered. "Mister Matrix, you and Lieutenant Bird find us a way into that compartment." he said tapping the wall. (reply Matrix, Bird) He turned back to Doctor Caskie. "Any ideas what may be giving off these strange readings?" (reply Caskie) Ahmed frowned. It wasn't unexpected really. But he had hoped that it would be easier than this. More straight forward perhaps. He watched for a few seconds before looking to Ro'Dal. "Mister Ro'Dal, good work back there. If it turns out that there is more than one tunnel leading from that chamber, I think that we may need a second security team, would you agree with that assessment?" (reply Ro'Dal) Ahmed listened, then nodded before replying. "Then I think I'll contact Lieutenant Janeway and have him beam down with another small security team. I'd prefer if you continued to handle security for my portion of the team." Ahmed tapped his commbadge. "Salid to Janeway." (reply Janeway) "Jono, it looks like we may have found a pair of tunnels leading from Doctor Lawson's residence into the mines. We will definitely need to investigate. I'd like you to put together a security team consisting of yourself and four others, and perhaps a medic at your discretion. Please beam down to my location armed with a type three phaser rifle in addition to your standard equipment as soon as possible." (reply Janeway) "Salid out" (reply Janeway, Bird, Ro'Dal, Matrix, Caskie) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony Lawson Residence- SEO- Lt. Steven Matrix - 1246) Matrix watched the security team do their work and made his way behind them. Safely behind them as could be had. After what seemed to be an eternity one of them waved them forward. The Commander acknowledged and gave the order to move as he stood up and led the way. The Commander entered the building, just out of sight of Matrix. Almost immediately he heard voices of the security team. Matrix entered the building through an entry way and because to scan the room visually, then with his tricorder. "Commander, no one is here, however there is another room behind this wall. That is where all the anomalous readings I am picking up are coming from. I cant say for certain, but I also think there might be tunnels leading from that room back into the mountain." Matrix slowly circled the room with his tricorder as the Commander motioned him over. "Mister Matrix, you and Lieutenant Bird find us a way into that compartment." said the Commander. "Aye Sir," replied Matrix. Matrix looked at Lieutenant Bird in a moment of puzzlement. ~How do we do that without making a lot of noise?~ Matrix asked himself. "Any ideas short of blasting a whole in it LT?" asked Matrix. (Reply Bird) Matrix smiled, "I think the Commander wants the element of surprise." (Reply Bird) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony- Lawson Residence- FO- Lt. Cmdr. Ahmed Ibn Salid-1247) =^=We'll be down within the next 10 minutes, Sir. Anything else, Ahmed?=^= Janeway inquired. "Nothing else I can think of at the moment, Jono." =^=See you soon. Janeway out.=^= Ahmed waited impatiently as the two engineers took reading and discussed methods to get into the area beyond the wall. It took all his effort not to immediately jump into the situation, using his engineering knowledge to help them solve the problem. ~Not this time Ahmed,~ he told himself, ~You need to let your junior officers handle the situation.~ Instead of staying focused on the wall. Ahmed turned his attentions to the rest of the house. It was a reasonably small domicile for a scientist of some repute. A quick stroll through the premises revealed the usual nick-knacks and ornaments that people usually collected. Photographs of family members displayed in shifting holographic frames. He understood that they were the latest craze. There were trinkets, signs that a child lived in the house. Small handmade crafts obviously made by little hands. Ahmed smiled. Children were always a fascinating aspect of life. He hoped someday to have a few of his own, but for now he was too busy in his professional life to even consider dating, let alone start a family. His mind shifted back to Letty. She was kind and smart and full of life. They had shared a couple of holodeck simulations and a dinner with the Captain and Colonel Drizzt. In one way Ahmed was sad that there hadn't been more. But knowing now that she had been snatched away from life when her lifeboat was destroyed left him saddened at her loss, yet somehow glad that he had not gotten more attached to her. It was a terrible thing to think, but he couldn't help it. Of course later when he had been in Cairo, between ships, he had met Jasmine. There relationship was one of comfort more than love, and she had pursued a posting on another Starfleet vessel. Ahmed still occasionally communicated with her, but it was apparent that neither of them wished to pursue a romantic relationship and sacrifice any singular portion of their career. Ahmed had completed a circuit of the domicile and it was only when he had returned to the area where his engineers were still working on the problem, that he realized that he never saw anything that even remotely resembled a laboratory. Normally even a retired scientist still maintained a small lab. ~Perhaps that is what is behind the wall.~ Ahmed thought. Suddenly there was a popping sound, followed by a hum. The wall shimmered and disappeared. The edges were reminiscent of a replicator. The wall appeared to have been recycled and could be replicated back into place later. "Now that's ingenious. "Ahmed said aloud. "Good work you two." The room beyond was most definitely a lab of some sort. It reminded him more of a medical bay than anything else, but of course, Doctor Lawson was an expert on nanites. A quick glance around the area indicated that there were power leads that were left unattended, and markings on the floor indicated that there had been machinery present that was not longer there. Several items seemed to have been relocated from their place in this room. A pair of parallel tunnels exited the south side of the room, cutting downward at a steep 55-degree angle. They were separated by roughly one and a half meters of solid rock. Ahmed pulled out his tricorder and tried to take a scan, he was still getting terrible interference here, so perhaps something was generating a dampening field of some sort. He looked over at Ro'Dal. "Scout twenty meters down each tunnel. See if there's anything hazardous and report back." (reply Ro'Dal) "Doctor Caskie, take a look around and see if this could be relevant to our Nanite problem. Mister Matrix, Mister Bird, see if you can find out if there is something interfering with our tricorders here." (reply Matrix, Bird) Ahmed tapped his commbadge. "Salid to Raschen and Hezan" (reply Raschen) "We've found something interesting at the Lawson residence. Finish up what you're doing and head this way. I'd like to have your report in person inside 15 minutes." Chance found a security recording of Monson at the mine talking to someone around the corner from where he stood. There wasn’t any audio on the recording, Chance hoped that the speakers on his terminal were simply broken. All that could be seen of the second individual was a shadow on the wall. As he continued to watch a black appendage hit Monson hard enough to send blood splattering on the wall, and then the shadowy figure dragging Monson’s body off around the corner then down the tunnel. Then the blood started to vanish, starting at the pool on the floor and then the line of disappearance went up the wall till all the blood was gone. Then the screen went blank. Chance replayed the video again, only in infrared the second time and found that a heat source ‘cleaned’ the blood up. ~Could the nanites have cleaned the blood up? ~ he thought, but decided not to mention it until after the Bolian had watched the recording. “Hezan, I’m forwarding a security recording to that terminal for you to see.” (Reply Hezan) “We need to get a copy of the plans of those mine shafts; NO, better yet we need the Rose to scan for all the mine shafts and tunnels incase some aren’t on the plans.” No sooner had Raschen finished his last statement when =^= Salid to Raschen and Hezan=^= “This is Raschen, sir we found something.” he said after tapping his comm.-badge. =^=We've found something interesting at the Lawson residence. Dr. Caskie got right down to business using her tricorder to scan the house. It didn't take the FO and the rest of the team long to follow, and the doctor surprised Ro' by informing him that there was a hidden room behind a wall, which she indicated to him, telling him she was getting all her anomalous readings from that area and that there was a possibility of tunnels leading from there back into the mountain. "Great" he muttered, voicing exactly what Ro'Dal was thinking. ~I can't see us getting off this planet any time soon.~ She thought glumly. "Mister Matrix, you and Lieutenant Bird find us a way into that compartment." he said tapping the wall. (reply Matrix, Bird) If Salid had given Ro' that order she'd have just blasted a hole in the wall, but then it was highly likely that he realized that, and therefore hadn't given her the task. He turned back to Dr. Caskie and Ro'Dal overheard their conversation. "Any ideas what may be giving off these strange readings?" (reply Caskie) They watched as Bird and Matrix worked at the problem of gaining access to the hidden room and then the FO addressed Ro'Dal. "Mister Ro'Dal, good work back there. If it turns out that there is more than one tunnel leading from that chamber, I think that we may need a second security team, would you agree with that assessment?" She gave him a small smile. "Yes, Sir. I would prefer that there be at least four security personnel accompanying each separate party, we will need two on point in case there are junctions, and at least two to follow the exploring party to cover their backs." Ahmed nodded before replying. "Then I think I'll contact Lieutenant Janeway and have him beam down with another small security team. I'd prefer if you continued to handle security for my portion of the team." Ahmed tapped his commbadge and hailed Lt. Janeway back on the Rosenante. (reply Janeway) Listening, Ro'Dal heard Salid request Janeway bring four others with him and a medic at his discretion. He was also to bring a type three phaser rifle in addition to the standard equipment, and was to come a.s.a.p. ~Like 5 minutes ago would be ideal.~ Ro' thought, her attention turning to Bird and Matrix who appeared to be making some progress. Thinking that the tunnels might well be in total darkness, she adjusted her arm torch while she waited, increasing the beam's diameter and intensity. She didn't want anything nasty jumping out of the dark at her or any of her charges. He tapped his foot agaisnt the command chair several times while cycling throug the numerous amounts of paperwork which was continuously piling up within the command module. He had continued to monitor the away teams reports and became more and more anxious about not being down there himself. He definetly wasnt one for just sitting back and watching others do all the work, however he was glad that Ro'Dal was getting her chance to prove herself and he could only hope that nothing would go wrong while they were planetside. The ship was monitoring the away teams comm units as well as their lifesigns and other vitals so once Jono had heard that the CMO would be sending some data up he instantly set a team up ready to receive and try to reconstruct what she had found. The unusual sensor damnpeners which seemed to be active on the planet, not enabling the away team to get clear sensor data seemed rather odd to him so he had also asked someone to look into that also. He didnt want to be caught slacking at all. As well as all of this he had security teams stood by and the ship was still under a tactical alert, encase of an attack. The attack on Ensign Raschen's ship had been un-nerving at that, remembering that Jono quickly decided he would need to speak with that particular Ensign about his weaponary. Any weaponary which was brought upon a Starfleet vessel and isnt a Starfleet weapon needed to be signed off by the Security Chief on-board the ship, if the person then didnt agree with the judgement they would be able to apply for the Captain and/or First Officer to re-look at the situation and either back up the Security Chief or grant that person their weapons back. ~I'll talk to him once hes back onboard~ He thought to himself. =^=Salid to Janeway.=^= Jono quickly tapped the comm unit within the command console on the chair and said, "Janeway here, What can I do for you sir?" =^=Jono, it looks like we may have found a pair of tunnels leading from Doctor Lawson's residence into the mines. We will definitely need to investigate. I'd like you to put together a security team consisting of yourself and four others, and perhaps a medic at your discretion. Please beam down to my location armed with a type three phaser rifle in addition to your standard equipment as soon as possible.=^= "We'll be down within the next 10 minutes, Sir. Anything else, Ahmed?" (Reply Salid - room for more iyw) "See you soon. Janeway out." He said as he closed the link between himself and the First Officer. He stood up and allowed the officer next in line to take the chair. "Keep monitoring the comms and make sure the away team are fully prepared for any eventuality. I'll be in contact ASAP." With that we walked out of the bridge. He tapped his comm. badge and said, "Away team, Security Alpha. Meet me at Transporter Room 1. Arm yourselves with A type three phaser rifle in addition to usual equipment. Bring one extra equipment sets and two extra Mark III's" (Reply any of the four security members - maybe an opening for Todd to get into the mission with an NPC character? Anyone else can use any of these four at your own discretion. I'll start naming them though if you dont hurry ;)) He racked his brains for a medic which he knew by name, There was only one that sprung to mind so once he had finished with his security team he pressed his comm. badge again and began speaking "Lt. Janeway to Chief Field Medic Nathan Fuller, You're required to join the away mission. Please meet myself and my security team in Transporter Room 1, within the next 5 minutes. Bring your normal equipment and expect for the worsed." (Reply Fuller) Jono turned the corner and entered the transporter room, his normal side phaser and his personal knife belted to his side and in his shoe. He now waited for the rest of his team. (Reply all mentioned) (Posted by Jono) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony – Lawson Residence - CMO Lt (jg) Josh Caskie - Day 8 - 1252) Once in Dr Lawson's house Josh had made a beeline for the computer. Unfortunately it had been wiped and had very little information that she could access. She surveyed the entire room but nothing seemed to jump out at her. Swearing under her breath she turned just as the FO spoke to her. "Any ideas what may be giving off these strange readings?" Josh paused for a moment and then turned back towards the FO and sighed. "All I can tell you is that there is something behind there. I think it might be extensive but something is blocking my readings. I still don't know what it is. It could be natural, possibly not. Either way, whatever it is causing major problems with my sensors. Maybe once we break through I might get a better reading, just now I am waiting to download what I can from Dr Lawson's computer and send it back to the ship. Hopefully someone might be able to reconstruct what she was working on from the fragment files that are left over from the last wipe. It's the best I can do just now." Bring your normal equipment and expect for the worst.=^= ~Is there fighting going on down there? What does he mean by the worst? OK worst case scenario it is.~ Nate tapped his combadge and responded, "Aye, sir, I'll be ready." he said simply, and closed the channel. "All right gentlemen, you heard the man, he said expect the worst. Hand me one of the completed med kits. I'm going to need some special equipment if he said to expect the worst. I'm going to need one of the stasis stretchers, a med tricorder, of course, and I'll go requisition a phaser and a personal shield." he told them as they handed him the medical equipment, "And Gentlemen, I want you to hit the literature, and keep up on the away mission, there will be a corresponding simulation in the holodeck upon my return." Collective groans could be heard from the group as Nate walked out the door. A few minutes and Nate walked into the transporter room decked out for a small skirmish. A personal shield emitter on his left forearm, type II phaser and medical tricorder at his belt, a collapsed stasis stretcher in his left hand and a med kit in his right. "Am I too late for the party?" Nate said jovially to the collected crewman, Nate was now an island of blue in a sea of mustard. (Reply Jono, Any) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room 1 - Second Officer & Security/Tactical Chief, Lt. Jono Janeway - 13.01) Jono had been lurched with his back hunched agaisnt the far wall, almost like he was watching the door; Waiting for it to open. However that was far from what he was doing. His head was miles away pondering what was happening down on the surface now. At least when he was on the bridge he could monitor the away teams movements via comm. badge.; now he was here it was almost near impossible considering the interference the tngonia was creating down on the surface. He had considered asking a scientist to come along on his team but had decided agaisnt it when he thought of the implications; they were always a nosey lot, creating trouble where it wouldnt have been created if they had been there. The doors slid open and he lifted his head to watch the security team file through the door in single line. Jono nodded to them and took the extra kit of them and began attaching it to his mesh uniform. He constantly wore the armoured version of the starfleet uniform because he ordered his security personnel to do so. He liked to practise what he preached therefore he wore it also, it wasnt as comfortable as the normal uniform but it proved useful if any combat situations arose quickly. It was versatile, longer lasting and it could stand some beating. He noticed the extra mark III hand weapon he had ordered for the Medic Fuller. Just as he saw it he saw a man glad in blue and carry what seemed to be a tent worth of equipment with him walked through the door; "Am I too late for the party?" he asked jovially. Jono took a double glance at the man ~Well I did say expect the worse~ He thought to himself ~I can only blame myself~ He said as he imagined the medic walking around for miles underground, possibly even running with all that equipment. He expected his men to be able to carry their own weight in combat situations but when it came down to other departments he was never sure what sort of training they had received. ~Well it was his own decision to bring all of it... But maybe I'll hold onto his mark III for a while. It doesnt look like he has anywhere to put it~ "No not at all, Chief. Infact now that we are all here I'll give you whatever sort of briefing I can give you with the limited amount of information I have." He looked around the group, they all seemed to be hanging on his every word so he got to what he wanted to say very quickly. "Bascially there is already an away team down on the planet surface. The first officer is the man in charge and it seems they have found very little in the way of actual physical lifeforms. They have discovered two, lets calls them 'corridors' for now; anyway they have found two corridors which lead down into different locations in the underground mines which count as the second layer of the colony. It seems that the first officer would like us down on the surface to cover one of the 'corridors' while his team will cover the other one. While we are down on the planet you should keep an open comm. signal at all times; however I'm not sure if that'll be any use to use down in the mines. Keep your eyes and ears open at all times ladies and gentlemen. Chief the reason you are here is mainly because we are unsure what to find in the mines; our sensors - ship and handheld - cannot penetrate the mines surface. There maybe injured or dead colonists down there; or possibly the same threat that the colonists discovered which may lead to a battle. Either way we may need your services however I wish that we would not. Is this understood by all?" There was a resounding 'Yes' and a nod of heads by the three security men and one security women infront of him, clad in gold. Jono looked to the Chief. (Reply Chief Fuller) "OK, Well les not keep them waiting any longer. Take your places on the transporter padd and be aware that anything you take with you, you will be carrying into the mines. Possibly for a long time." (Reply Fuller, any) Once everyone was in place he nodded to the tranporter chief and the familiar feeling of the transporter took grip and before he knew it they were on the planets surface. As they dematerialised he took in a deep breath of the cold but lovely fresh air. He quickly took his tri-corder out and noticed that the away team were in a building two houses away. He made movements with his hand and kept by the Chief at all times. As they entered the building he noticed Ahmed stood by a wall. He turned to his security team, "Stay outside the door. Defensive formation. Chief come with me please." As he said so he moved towards the First Officer. "Second Officer reporting in with away team Bravo, Sir." He said as he came to Ahmed, "Came as quickly as we could." He said with a slight smile. Jono then turned his attention to Nate. "Understood, but sir, do you always carry two phaser rifles, or is the second meant for me? It looks like I'm carrying a lot of gear, but actually it's quite light and I can always sling the rifle." (Reply Lt. Janeway) Nate took the rifle and slung it so it "OK, Well let's not keep them waiting any longer. Take your places on the transporter pad and be aware that anything you take with you, you will be carrying into the mines. Possibly for a long time." "Roger, sir, I've carried a 200 pound patient over 200 yards, while being shot at by Cardies, I'll be fine." Nate said assuring Jono, with a smile. (Reply Lt. Janeway) Lieutenant Janeway gave the command and the away team's atoms were disassembled and shot to the planet below. Nate's next breath reminded him of an Iowa late autumn afternoon. He quickly looked around and didn't see any contacts or hostiles. He set his tricorder to warn of life signs with out combadges. Janeway began issuing hand and arm signals letting his well oiled machine of a team know exactly what he wanted them to do. They soon arrived at a building, their first destination? Salid out=^= Ahmed stood just taking in all the details, committing them to his perfect edict memory for recall later. Mentally he was categorizing power conduits, equipment configurations and markings, in an attempt to collect as much data as possible, should it prove to be needed. There was a commotion outside the door, and Ahmed heard Janeway's familiar voice "Stay outside the door. Defensive formation. Chief come with me please." Ahmed smiled. It was good to have people that he could trust in a crisis. And while Ahmed knew that all of his people were professional and capable, he simply felt more comfortable with Jono, perhaps because of their common connection to the Nimitz before their posting to the Champlain and then the Rosenante. Sometimes the reasons weren't as clear cut as all that. "Second Officer reporting in with away team Bravo, Sir." He said as he came to Ahmed, "Came as quickly as we could." He said with a slight smile. "I'm glad to have you, Jono. Have you been monitoring everything?" Ahmed asked, already certain of the answer before it was given. (reply Jono) "Good. It seems Mister Raschen and Mister Hezan have discovered some information of importance at the local sheriff's office. They should be here within the next fifteen minutes. It is Mister Raschen's opinion that the nanites are more active at night, so of course we seem to be heading directly downward into the most likely location where they may lair, if they do such a thing." "Once we're all together I want to reorganize the teams. I'll take Ro'Dal, Bird, Caskie, and Raschen and the original security team with me. You'll have Matrix, Fuller and all of Bravo team." (reply Jono) "My standing orders are not to kill unless you have no other option, and then only if to save a life. If you make contact and the situation turns hostile, you are to withdraw if possible. I have already made it clear that any officer that undertakes lethal force will be held accountable for their decision. Within reason Jono. " Ahmed said locking eyes with the Second Officer. "Chief, have you been given the details on these nanites so far?" he asked. As protocol demanded, T'Larah went straight for the center chair. It was a Lieutenant with a red collar. ~Obviously not the Captain, a watch officer.~ she surmised. The young human officer looked up at T'Larah. "How can I help you, Lieutenant?" the officer asked, obviously annoyed, but still cordial. "My name is Lieutenant Sullivan, I am here as a passenger to the USS Rosenante. I hear from your shuttle pilot that the vessel is in need of some minor repairs." she said. "And...?" he continued as if to say 'your point is?', he held his tongue, but it was obvious in his tone. "As it will take some time to arrive, I need to speak to your Captain to see if they will let me take a shift or two and relieve you and your crew of some of the burdens." she said. The young officer rolls his eyes, "He's in there." he said annoyance completely taking over his demeanor he pointed to the ready room. "Thank you." she said and made her way straight to the ready room door. The chime sounded and the obligatory response followed. "Enter." (Reply Brisbane CO) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- USS Brisbane - Ready Room- Captain Terrell Brillane- 1315) Terrell sat reviewing the latest reports from his acting Chief Engineer. Being such a small vessel and relegated to service duties, such as shuttling personnel between stations and minor supply runs between colonies, had meant that the Brisbane was well down on the list of dry-dock repairs. The Miranda was still suffering from damage dealt to her in the final battle for the MDP, although somehow she had managed to come through it intact enough to remain serviceable. Several of her crew quarters were open to the vacuum of space; a result of a nasty phaser hit that had run down the length of her side. The end result being that she was currently undermanned for a ship of her class. The Acting CEO was an ensign, as were several other members of the senior staff of the ship. Only the Captain, Lieutenant Salver (who was acting first officer) and Doctor Madison O'Conner held a rank of full lieutenant or better. It was pathetic that BUPERS had failed to send him any replacements, while he transported replacement officers to ships that did not seem to be the slightest bit understaffed. Terrell set down the PADD and closed his eyes from a few moments, rubbing his temples in an attempt to relieve some pressure that was beginning to form before it became a full blown migraine. The door chime of the ready room sounded, and Terrell stopped the temple massaging and looked at the door. ~Some day….~ he thought but said, "Enter." The door slipped open and admitted a lovely Vulcan woman in a gold uniform. Terrell stood up. Where he was from men still came to their feet when meeting a woman for the first time. It was a hard habit to break, so he had stopped trying. "Welcome aboard Lieutenant." he said as he extended his hand upwards in a traditional Vulcan salute. "Live long and prosper" He was certain that he should know her name, but he had not yet received the personnel transfer report from the ensign currently running operations. What is your specialty? Operations, Tactical, Security or engineering?" "My specialty is tactical and security, and I minored in flight operations, at the academy, I am also familiar with Starfleet Engineering protocols." she said. ~it couldn't have been better if I'd asked.~ he thought "Well, truth be told I could use your assistance in any of those capacities. I have an ensign currently acting as our chief tactical officer and chief of security. He's six weeks out of the academy. For some reason the white linen and sandals were soothing to her. First she familiarized herself with her surroundings. The room was arranged with seating flanking the left and right as you walk in the door, but what immediately grabbed everyone's attention was the large nearly ceiling to deck transparent aluminum viewing panes, that allow an un-obstructed view of the path that lay ahead of the Brisbane. Just in front of and to the center of this panoramic vista, is an old style sailing helm. Constructed of some natural wood unidentifiable to T'Larah, it's dozen or so spokes, nearly impossibly preserved, added a connection to the sailing vessels of Earth's past. On the large wheel's stand carried the Brisbane's dedication plaque. Identifying the vessel and it's place of construction. The most compelling thing on it, the quote, read as follows: "We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started... and know the place for the first time." - T.S. Elliot T'Larah meditated on that for hours, until being disturbed by the door hissing open, as someone walked into the room. A slight awkward silence, and T'Larah inquired on not who her guest was, but why he was here, "Can I help you?" "Um, I'm sorry Lieutenant, am I disturbing you?" asked a meek and young sounding voice. "No, as I am not officially on duty until tomorrow, I was just taking some recreation time. Again was there something you needed?" she said, still calm, not trying to push him out the door but not encouraging his stay either. " I just wanted to talk to you about what's going to happen tomorrow, Skipper says you're going to be talking to me, and helping me do my job." he continued, seeming more sure of himself. "You must be Ensign Pullman, the Tactical and Security Chief." she deduced. "Yes, how did you?.. Oh, you've spoken with the Captain.." he answered his own question. "Excellent bit of logic Ensign, we'll make a department head out of you yet." she said stoically praising him. "And tomorrow, Lieutenant, what will be happening? Are you taking over for me?" he asked. "No Ensign, I will do no such thing, I already have an assignment of my own, I am volunteering to help this vessel anyway I can, and your Commanding Officer has requested that I observe your work and guide you so you can gain more experience and learn some of the lessons that I've learned the hard way." she explained. "I see, thank you Lieutenant, I guess, see you tomorrow?" he said. "Yes, at the beginning of Alpha shift." she said simply. Then the Ensign left the room, leaving T'Larah to herself and the stars.
