Jono Janeway - 0951) Jono stepped through the doors to the conference room and quickly made a scan of the room. Paul Bird was sat by himself waiting for the others to arrive. He had to admit that he was surprised to see the CEO in the meeting room before anyone else and a little ashamed that he hadnt managed to arrive first. After his first glance he noticed the FO also sat in his seat awaiting the other officers to arrive. He yawned as he moved towards his seat and said, "Good Morning Gentlemen" He sat down dreary eyed in his normal seat. Not as tired as he thought he should have been Jono was able to pull several nights of with no sleep, proven in the past. He hadnt missed the fact that Ro'Dal hadnt been off duty for an obscene amount of time and was prepared to pull he aside after the meeting and send her straight to bed for a good couple of hours. (Reply Niether OR Either/Both) He happily sat back and watched as the rest of the crew walked in and took their seats. For a couple of moments he wondered where Ens. Moto was until he came running in and banged his head on the metal bar hanging from the sealing. Jono resisted the urge to laugh and nodded to the man as the meeting started. (Reply all) (Posted by Jono) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Observation Lounge- Engineer Ensign T'Kron - 0951.5) T'Kron brought his usual PADD with him to work and check over his warp matter/antimatter mix calculations with some new variables. It was going to be crucial to get these correct and the mix well balanced. He sat down quietly, seeking to disturb no one and concentrating on his PADD. He had heard disturbing rumors about the way team finding some Borg like remnants of bodies and structures. Though he normally didn't listen to gossip and rumors, he found the stories highly unsettling. He hoped they were not true and that they were the products of overly imaginative speculation. He hoped to get to the truth of the situation and that they would find a satisfactory resolution to this matter. It was bad for morale. (Reply any) (Posted by Sheila Mayer) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge- Sec.O Ensign Ro'Dal - 0956.5) Content just to sit and people watch as they interacted together or came in to take a seat, Ro'Dal was a little surprised when Lt. Dralar perched adjacent to her. He really was a magnificent, regal creature and she admired his grace as he folded his wings against his body and settled in his place, and when he looked directly at her and cocked his head, she took it for a greeting and smiling at him copied his gesture. "How do you do, Lieutenant Dralar?" She said simply, trying to be polite. "Somewhere it is a bright, sunny day and right now I cannot help wishing I was napping in the grass there. It has been a long two days." (reply Dralar - room for more iyw) By now the seats were almost filled to capacity and everyone was waiting for the meeting to start momentarily. (reply Dralar iyw, any at meeting) (posted by Sal) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge- CONN- Lt. Dralar - 0957.5) He had just settled when Ro'Dal spoke to him. "How do you do, Lieutenant Dralar?" She said simply, trying to be polite. "Somewhere it is a bright, sunny day and right now I cannot help wishing I was napping in the grass there. It has been a long two days." "Indeed it would be nice to stretch my wings in a warm windy sky. And I agree it has been a long last couple of days. I understand that you were on the away team to the freighter. I have already heard rumor that there were Borg there. I am happy that you have returned safe, Ro'Dal." Dralar said in response. However it became rather apparent that the room was rapidly filling with other members of the ship's staff. "We will have to resume our discussion later, it seems that the meeting will be starting soon." he added. (reply Ro'Dal iyw, otherwise none needed) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge- CHOPs - Lieutenant Smith- 0958) Robert walking to the observation lounge scanning the PADD in his hand. there had been a few reports of a strange program in the holodeck system. He nodded to people as he moved deeper into the room. He saw Raschen and made a mental note to ask him a couple of questions later. He then found a seat and finished reading is report. ~may be its one of the marines mucking about with the holo-systems. Will need to get on top of this later~ (reply any) (posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge- Crewman Shadow to Sretalles - 0959) Shadow had set up the room and disappeared again before anyone arrived and come back in time for the meeting. She'd had paperwork to do, memos to forward and copy, and make sure all information was available to all relevant personnel. She didn't really understand the technical and medical bits, but she had full faith the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Engineer did. She took her seat in the corner, PADD in paw, ready to take notes. (Reply any) (Posted by Lorna) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge- SEO Lieutenant Steven Matrix - 0959.5) Matrix felt out of sync with the crew. He duties have secluded him for much of the voyage, but he was getting accustom to the ship and her crew. Many hadn't seen Matrix for more than brief periods as he moved between systems, Jeffries tubes, power conduits or the like. He felt at ease and happy to be seen again. His usual PADD in front of him, Matrix awaited the start of the meeting. Nodding at fellow crew members as they acknowledged him as they came in. (Reply any) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Observation Lounge -FO- Lt. Cmdr. Ahmed Ibn Salid-1000) Ahmed watched as the last of the officers arrived and took their seats. For the first time in his entire career, he would be conducting a senior staff briefing without the captain's presence. She and the Chief Counselor were working diligently on other aspects of the situation and it had been agreed that Ahmed could conduct the briefing with the caveat that if the CO completed her present tasks, that she would join the briefing already in situ. Ahmed took a long look around the room as he stood, catching the attention of all the officers present. Shadow was present to take notes for the Captain's review and Ahmed was pleased to know that nothing would be missed. "Good Morning Everyone." Ahmed began; to indicate that the briefing had officially begun. "You will all notice that neither the captain nor the Second officer are present at this briefing at this time. Captain Rivers and Counselor Rinehart are working diligently on another aspect of this mystery and I have been asked to conduct this briefing in the Captain's absence." He turned and drew everyone's attention to the master display in the lounge. With a single push of a button the display lit up and was immediately replaced by the image of the Sky of Tomorrow. "This is the Sky of Tomorrow. She is a Federation freighter, whose manifest claims that she was manned by a crew of six. All of our attempts to locate the members of the crew thus far have proven inconclusive. As you all know we received a disturbing distress signal that led us to believe that the Commanding officer of this ship was under attack. By that I mean personally under attack, not that the vessel was being attacked per se." "We changed course and have entered the Davros system. Upon entering the system it became apparent that something was very wrong. Not only could we not detect any sign of the crew on the Freighter, but the nearby colony of Davros III also appears to have been abandoned." "An away team, all the members of which are here at this meeting, was sent aboard the freighter to investigate. They found signs of a very violent struggle as well as some indications that the Borg may be involved." "However there are a number of pieces of evidence that conflict with what we know about the Borg, including the fact that the Borg are not known to dismember those that they wish to assimilate in a grisly manner. Additionally, while there have been some structures seen on the freighter that appear similar to the Borg, they have not been identified with certainty as originating with them." "Another point of concern is the apparent activity of some sort of unidentified raider in this system, which attacked Mister Raschen's vessel when he entered into the system. From the data that we have been able to study that has been provided from his ship's sensor logs, these vessels do not resemble any known Borg ships. Which leads me to ask the question, 'Who exactly are we dealing with here?'" "What I would like to do is have each of you relate your impressions as well as any solid data that you have collected to everyone else in this room. In this way we can put forward several theories and see what different pieces of information we have as a single cohesive thought." "With that, I'd like to begin with The Away team, I'd like each of you to give us a verbal report of what you saw, your impressions and anything you feel may be important. Let's begin with Lieutenant Janeway" (Away Team Members) Once the last member of the away team finished, Ahmed turned his attention to the new Operations Officer. "Mister Raschen, could you please enlighten everyone present with the raiders that attacked your vessel? Did anything seem familiar or bizarre to you?" (reply Raschen) Once Raschen had concluded his assessment and recantation of the events, Ahmed turned to Doctors Caskie and Henna -Star. "Doctors, what can you tell us about the hand that was recovered and the nanites that were found? Any idea where they may have come from?" (reply Henna-Star, Caskie) Once they had concluded their report, Ahmed turned his next set of questions to the Engineering department. "Mister Bird, you got a little time to take a look at the damage on the Sky. What was your assessment of the ship? And can she be repaired? I'd like for you to conduct a detailed Damage control survey of the vessel." (reply Bird) "Mister T'Kron, I don't want to rule out any chance that she was attacked by the raiders as well. See what you can do to compare the sensor logs provided by Mister Raschen with our own and see if there is any indication that the vessel was attacked." (Reply T'Kron) "Lieutenant Matrix, I'd like for you to work with Medical and sciences to come up with a way to better detect these nanites from a distance. I'd also like for you to compare them to know Borg nanite models and see if you can determine how they differ." (reply Matrix) Once the Engineering department had been assigned tasks, Ahmed turned to his security teams. "Mister Janeway and Mister Moto, I'd like for you to arrange for increased security patrols through the ship. I want every Jefferies tube checked and rechecked on a regular rotation." (reply Janeway and Moto) "In addition, I'd like to have Mister Balder and his 'Angels' to provide security for anyone that will need to go aboard the freighter should the need arise." (reply Balder) "Ensign Ro'Dal, I'd like for you to oversee the security of the Hand and all nanite samples that have been brought aboard this ship at all times. Allow those who need it access but otherwise I want that thing monitored on a continuous cycle by our security." (reply Ro'Dal) "Mister Smith," Ahmed said as he looked that the interim Chief of Operations, "I want you to monitor every environmental system in detail. If there is any variation that you can not account for you are to immediately notify security and engineering. Additionally, you are to maintain transporter locks on anyone that boards the Sky of Tomorrow." (reply Smith) "Mister Raschen, I'd like for you to assist Lieutenant Bird in assessing the damage to the freighter, and hopefully in recovering anything of value from either the ship's log or emergency buoy." (Reply Raschen) "Lieutenant Tallos, Get us as much information about these nanites as possible. I want to know what would kill them if the need should arise." (reply Tallos) "It is my intention to organize an away team to go to the planet's surface and investigate the happenings at the mining colony at 1200 hours. You will be notified if you have been selected for that operation." "Is there anything else that anyone here would like to add before we end this meeting?" (reply All) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Observation Lounge - Sec.O Ensign Ro'Dal -1001) When it seemed that the almost all the officers that should be there had arrived and taken their seats, the First Officer stood up as if he was about to address the congregation. Ro'Dal glanced around, had she dozed off and missed the Captain's arrival, and where was Counselor Rhinehart, surely he should be at this meeting? Apparently neither of them were attending the meeting, or they were going to be late arrivals. For now her attention turned to the First Officer who was talking. He greeted them all and indicated that the briefing had officially begun and then immediately answered Ro's unspoken questions to inform them that the Captain and 2O were working diligently on another aspect of the mystery, which caused Ro' to wonder what that could be. He turned and drew everyone's attention to the master display in the lounge. The display lit up and was immediately replaced by the image of the Sky of Tomorrow. Ro'Dal shuddered slightly as she remembered her last few minutes aboard the hulk. Salid went on to tell them what most of them already knew, that the Sky of Tomorrow was a Federation freighter manned by a crew of six and that all attempts to locate the crew thus had proven inconclusive. A disturbing distress signal had led them to believe that the Commanding officer of the ship was under personal attack. The Rosenante had changed course and entered the Davros system and besides finding no sign of the Sky's crew, it had been ascertained that the colony of Davros III also appeared to have been abandoned. ~Or vanished similarly to the Sky's crew's disappearance.~ Ro' thought, ~dismembered and utilized by some strange Borg wannabe. As if having the Borg around isn't enough.~ The Takaran security officer had heard the recording and had found it hair raising. It had been apparent from the unfortunate man's agonized screams that whatever had been attacking him had been causing him excruciating pain, and from what she had seen of the body parts she'd observed and all the gore, it wasn't hard to imagine he'd been in the process of being torn limb from limb. She couldn't imagine a worse way to die than that. "An away team, all the members of which are here at this meeting, was sent aboard the freighter to investigate. They found signs of a very violent struggle as well as some indications that the Borg may be involved." ~No, not the Borg!~ Ro'Dal automatically negated that point in her mind, but the FO continued. "However there are a number of pieces of evidence that conflict with what we know about the Borg, including the fact that the Borg are not known to dismember those that they wish to assimilate in a grisly manner. Which leads me to ask the question, 'Who exactly are we dealing with here?'" ~Or more likely *what* are we dealing with?~ The FO went on to ask them to each relate your impressions and any solid data that they'd collected to everyone else assembled, in order for them to forward various theories and see what different pieces of information they had as a single cohesive thought. He then aked the Away team to give a verbal report of what they had seen and their impressions, as well as anything they felt to be of importance. "....Let's begin with Lieutenant Janeway" Cdr. Salid suggested. That suited Ro'Dal just fine, perhaps the Lieutenant would tell them everything she knew thereby saving her from talking, she was always so uncomfortable when speaking to a crowd. (Away other Team Members) NRPG: Going to wait for Jono to reply before Ro'Dal speaks her turn. RPG: Listening to all the different perspectives on what had been seen and data collected had woken Ro'Dal up somewhat, at least she was feeling less lethargic and foggy minded. When the last of the away team had said their piece, Cdr. Salid asked the new Ops Officer to enlighten everyone present about the raiders that attacked your vessel, and whether anything seem familiar or bizarre. (reply Raschen) Then it was the Doctors turn to divulge their information about the hand and the nanites they found in it and Doctor Caskie was the first to speak, telling them that the nanites were originally Borg, but had modified over time which would have taken a considerable amount of knowledge of Borg technology, and consequently she had queried Starfleet Medical to find out who was working with that technology. An answer had been received recently divulging that there were at least four people authorized by them to work on that technology and all were accounted for as of twenty four hours ago. The Doctor went on to tell them that one other person did a great deal of research on nanotechnology before she resigned and relocated off world because of family illness. "...Unfortunately for us it seems that she relocated here." Josh hesitated for a second and took a breath. "Sir I have one final recommendation to make. The Sky is a derelict, no-one is now left alive on that ship. It seems from the away teams report that it has become infested with something. Given what we know my recommendation would be to destroy it now." Ro'Dal couldn't help it, she gave a nod of agreement, better to be safe than sorry as far as she was concerned. (reply Salid) Next he called upon Mister Bird of the engineering department for his input and opinion about whether the Sky could be repaired, and asked him to conduct a detailed Damage control survey of the vessel. (reply Bird) After listening to Mister Bird, the FO began giving everyone tasks starting with the Engineering Department and then it was Security's turn and Ro' listened intently to see if he had a special assignment for her, or whether she'd finally be able to get some much needed rest. She watched Lt. Janeway and marveled at how fresh he looked even though he also must have had very little sleep. (Reply engineers) "Mister Janeway and Mister Moto, I'd like for you to arrange for increased security patrols through the ship. Allow those who need it access but otherwise I want that thing monitored on a continuous cycle by our security." ~Oh stellar! I get an up close with the hand, I hope it's behind a barrier.~ The image of that other hand leaping towards her face came to her mind and she swallowed before replying a simple. "Yes sir, as you wish." Of course she would do her duty even if it was repulsive to her, but if that hand so much as twitched its little finger she'd blast it to the heavens, nanites and all! The Takarn Security Officer stifled a yawn and half listened as the FO continued giving his orders. Her ears perked up again as he told them he intended to send an away team to the planet to investigate the happenings at the mining colony at 1200 hours. She was of mixed feeling as to whether she wanted to go or not, part of her was very curious to find out what had become of the miners and the other part dreaded finding out if it involved more animated body parts. Just in case she decided she'd ask for a strong stimulant when she went to the Sickbay, to keep her alert. "....You will be notified if you have been selected for that operation." Salid told them. Is there anything else that anyone here would like to add before we end this meeting?" (reply All) (posted by Sal) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Observation Lounge – Engineer Ensign T'Kron -1007) T'Kron was concerned about the dire events that had happened on board the freighter. It sounded as though things had not gone well for the away team, though he was pleased there were no casualties. Commander Salid began assigning duties to everyone. "Mister T'Kron, I don't want to rule out any chance that she was attacked by the raiders as well. See what you can do to compare the sensor logs provided by Mister Raschen with our own and see if there is any indication that the vessel was attacked." "I will do that Sir," answered T'Kron. He went the computer terminal located at the wall of the room and finding the files of the sensor logs, he quickly downloaded them to his PADD. He began looking through the data while the Commander continued on with doling out assignments. He did not hear any other duties assigned to him, but he hoped that they would resolve this distasteful mystery immediately. Once they were dismissed he planned to go over the logs more in depth on a console terminal in Main Engineering. (Reply any) (Posted by Sheila Mayer) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (U.S.S. Rosenante – Observation Lounge -Ops- ENS (jg) Chance Raschen-1018) As the room filled and the meeting began, Chance felt extremely out of place. It wasn’t so much because he was new to the ship or that he was roughly 14 years older than the average human junior grade ensign, but some of the cautious and curious looks he noted that were going his way. The former privateer smiled as he thought about the ships command flipping out if he had introduced himself as Chance Temerarious. One thing was for certain though, and that was after the meeting Chance had to talk with Lt. Janeway about his personal disruptor pistol. As Commander Salid gave everybody a quick rundown about, and what was discovered on, the freighter Sky of Tomorrow; he had asked each member of the away team relate their impressions of anything that might have been important. Once the last member of the away team finished, Chance watched as the First Officer’s attention shifted then asked "Mister Raschen; could you please enlighten everyone present with the raiders that attacked your vessel; did anything seem familiar or bizarre to you?" With a smirk on his face, Chance flatly stated “I didn’t exactly get a chance to ask who they were between the time I came out of warp sir, and they attacked me;” Then the privateer stood-up and he became all business, speaking as if preparing to go after an objective “but their ships were highly maneuverable, using disruptors and pulse phasers with very strong shields sir. As I reported when I was brought onboard earlier this morning sir, I managed to get one to withdraw and suckered a second one into a planet’s gravity well. If it wasn’t for the size shape and color, those vessels would’ve reminded me of over grown B’rel class BoPs. The ships did seem to be of the same make as some unidentified ships that I saw about this time last year while on the Dennison sir.” (Reply any) Chance looked the questioning officer in the eyes for the briefest of moments, then at the other faces in the room as he elaborated “We had gotten trapped in some sort of anomaly that turned out to be the makings of an artificial wormhole being opened. The technology used to create the opening had readings similar to, but was decidedly not Borg; thank God. At the time; it appeared that the wormhole was being used by a group of unidentified warships to enter our territory. When the anomaly opened up, my ship was sent through and all torpedoes onboard were fired into the ship that was generating the opening and destroyed it. As the wormhole collapsed, the Dennison was released and both ships managed to escape to relative safety.” Once Raschen had concluded his assessment and recantation of the events, Ahmed turned to Doctors Caskie and Henna -Star. (Reply Any) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Observation Lounge - CMO Lt (jg) Josh Caskie -1020) Josh had listened to the reports from the away team and had sat quietly making notes about their observations. Most of the things they said seemed to come straight out of some scary 1980's horror flick and if Josh hadn't seen the hand herself she might have laughed, well at least privately, but certainly not to their faces. But having seen the hand in the stasis chamber for herself she was more than happy to agree that whatever then had seen was indeed real. What it was, and how to deal with it was an entirely different matter. As the First Officer turned to her and asked her for her input, she took a deep breath. "Indeed Sir, the nanites are originally of Borg origin but have been so modified over time that it took me a while to even figure that out. This would take a considerable amount of knowledge of Borg technology and I queried Starfleet Medical some hours ago to find out who was working with this technology. I only received the answer within the last hour. There are at least four people authorised by ST Medical to work on this and all of them are accounted for as of twentyfour hours ago. However there is one other person who did a great deal of research on nanotechnology before she resigned and relocated off world because of family illness. Unfortunately for us it seems that she relocated here." Josh hesitated for a second and took a breath. "Sir I have one final recommendation to make. Rosenante – Observation Lounge -Ops- ENS (jg) Chance Raschen-1040) Raschen watched the First Officer as he controlled the meeting, then Salid looked in his direction and said "Mister Raschen, I'd like for you to assist Lieutenant Bird in assessing the damage to the freighter, and hopefully in recovering anything of value from either the ship's log or emergency buoy." Chance figured that Salid had taken a look into his file and discovered that he held a civilian captain’s license. Looking at Bird and nodding at the big man, Raschen turned back to face the First Officer and smirked as he fought the urge to say ‘No, I already put in my eight hours for today’ and laugh, but instead Chance replied saying “No problem sir. I have to speak with Lt. Janeway for a moment after this meeting and then I’ll be ready to go over.” (Reply Salid iyw) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- End Compile ---------------------------------------------------------------------
