Dralar- 1100) Dralar materialized on the transporter PADD along with his Body Attendant, Sendam. The two Skorr instinctively stretched their wings for a moment before Dralar stepped down from the platform and spoke to the Transporter Operator. "Greetings Ensign Carter," Dralar began, recognizing an old shipmate from the Champlain. "Lieutenant Dralar and party requesting permission to come aboard." "Permission is granted, sir. Welcome aboard." Dralar bobbed his head in a gesture of gratitude. "I hope that your leave found your siblings and parents in good health and that your clutch does well also?" Carter smiled. "Yes they are all well Lieutenant, Beth is due to deliver the twins in a few days and the doctor says that everything is going wonderfully. My parents and brother were happy to see me. Thank you for inquiring." "It was the least I could do, I find our discussions concerning your species to be very enlightening. I hope that they can continue even after the hatching?" Dralar replied. "You mean birth, remember humans give live birth." Carter gently reminded him. "Yes, of course, how could I forget?" the Skorr prince remarked, "It is such a fascinating thing, the entire process is so intriguing actually. It's very hard to believe that your people are so plentiful, with the inherent biological dangers associated with tending to the gestation and delivery of a live member of your species." Carter smiled. "Is the captain aboard?" Dralar inquired of him. "No Sir, she and the First Officer have beamed over to the Rosenante." "The Rosenante?" "A newly commissioned ship, I think. A real beauty, looks like she was made to fly. I think you'd really like her Lieutenant." Dralar cocked his head. "Well, I shall leave you Mister Carter. I shall speak with you again." "Looking forward to it sir." Dralar nodded to Sendam and the two Skorr headed from the Transporter room into the interior of the Hypatia. (USS Hypatia- Personal Quarters- CONN-Lt. Dralar- 1120) The quarters on the Hypatia were still very bare. After the loss of the Champlain, Dralar had not bothered to decorate his quarters on the Hypatia at all. There were a few boxes, still waiting to be unpacked. They had waited for months and they could continue to wait for a while longer. Since the battle ended, he had been on special assignment back to Skorria. He had spent his time advocating more participation and interaction with the United Federation of Planets, and the Starfleet Preparatory school in his district was well on it's way to completion. It was his hope that through the academy, that other Skorr may someday come to join the Federation and learn from their celestial neighbors, for the benefit of both the UFP and the Skorr Hierarchy. He had spent the majority of his time tending to his district in the capital. As the patron of those that lived and worked there, it was his solemn duty to administer to them. He was required to provide them with everything the needed, mediate and arbitrate on matters of law and generally insure that his people were well tended to. At first his father had been reluctant to allow him to return to the Federation, but Dralar had developed a method of administering his district from afar. With Sendam's assistance, he could keep up with the workload of his political station while still serving in his capacity as CONN officer in Starfleet. "Your Lordship," Sendam said, "There is a message waiting for you." "Play it please Sendam." Dralar replied, as he ordered a glass of water from the replicator. =^=Lt. Dralar, you have been reassigned to the USS Rosenante. Effective immediately. You are to report into Captain Rivers. The Captain wishes me to tell you that there will be a senior crew meeting onboard the USS Rosenante in the observation lounge on deck 8 at 1700 hours prompt. Today. Details of your assignment are listed below, you will take up the position you currently hold under Captain Rivers on her new command. Commander Josel out.=^= "It seems that we have been assigned to a new ship, my lord." Sendam stated. "So it does, Sendam. Send a message to War Captain Rivers and inform her that we have received our message of reassignment and that we will be attending the meeting as ordered promptly. Also advise her that at her convenience after the meeting, I would care to speak with her. When that is finished Sendam, Arrange for our personal affects that have arrived from Starbase Geneva to be transferred to the Rosenante." "Yes my Lord." Sendam said bowing slightly. "Oh and Sendam?" "Yes?" "Thank you for your loyal service and support." Dralar added. Sendam stood for a moment completely silent. A Prince or Master of a Body attendant never said thank you. The Body Attendants performed their tasks thanklessly because it was their place and their duty to do so. "I do not know what to say my lordship." Sendam replied. "Use the human term then, Sendam. I believe it is simply Thank You." "Of course, thank you, my lord." (reply None) (posted by Daniel Greene) (Shuttle Orillian – Co Pilots Chair- ATC/SC Ensign Sam Moto - 1424) The smooth, sleek hull passed seamlessly below the glass of the cockpit in which Sam was now gazing from with awe. All thoughts of scepticism set aside he truly had been impressed with this “experimental” vessel. His time on Valhalla had been brief and he had caught only glimpse of this ship from between pylons and girders but now, as the shuttle cruised above, purely for pleasure of course, after all Sam had been intrigued at least of the Rosenante, he could not help but feel a now unfamiliar buzz within him, like a child being presented with a new toy. They banked, cornering to ease gracefully into the elegant shuttle bay doors. As he stepped down from he shuttle he immediately looked up at the immense force field the ship had just flew through, the dry dock towering above that and Valhalla covering the far right of his vision. Stars took up the rest, and today they seemed even brighter. He turned to his pilot, “thanks for the ride, and I’m glad you chose to take the scenic route!” he smiled as the pilot grinned and turned back to his console. Sam briskly marched across the flight deck towards the exit. He had just under half an hour to snoop around before he was due for the meeting on deck 8 and he intended to snoop as much as possible. Entering the turbolift Sam faced the door and opened his mouth to speak. ~ah, I knew I should have tried to find some deck plans, so where to I wonder, I guess there’s only one place I’d want to see first!~ “Bridge” he said with more excitement than he had intended. (Posted by Nick) (USS Hypatia - Science Lab - Sciences - Ensign(jg) Alba Tuk - 1530) Alba flipped thru the pages and pages of inventory for the Primary Science Lab. Since the sensors had finally met specifications, it had been determined that there was a deficiency in the available supplies for the department. Herself and several other ensigns were busily checking the various drawers, cabinets and shelves and making dutiful notes. ~Yet another necessary evil.~ Though she had tried to make small talk with her compatriots they didn't seem inclined to converse with her. Alba was seriously beginning to wonder if the Acting CSO liked her. There wasn't any one thing she could point a finger at, but logical deduction would indicate that something was up. Of course, she was very much aware that she could be reading too much into it and blowing it out of perspective just because she had nothing better to think about then if they had 3 micronoscopes or if it was 4. "Ensign Tuk." ~What's she want me to do now? Check the crawl space for escaped lab rats?~ "Yes, Sir?" She said cheerfully. ~ Maybe the crawl space won't be so bad. ~ "Ensign, you have time sensitive orders from the Star Base. You are released from the remainder of the shift." He said with his usual dry monotone. "Yes Sir!" After he had returned to his office, she handed her PADD over to the nearest Ensign and let her know how far along she had gotten. "Certainly better then lab rats." Alba said under her breath as she exited the Lab and hurriedly headed to her quarters. She had considered checking the orders from one of the terminals in the lab. However, if it was time sensitive then it was likely she would be leaving the ship and that would mean claiming her things from her quarters. Upon reaching her quarters she immediately took a seat at her terminal and pulled up her messages. There were two messages from home and one from the Office of Personnel on the Star Base. She played the recorded orders while pulling up the attached documentation. ~Oh! I wonder if it's a science ship?~ The notice that there was a meeting being held at 1700 caught her attention immediately. If she was going to be on time, she would have to hustle and get down to business. "Well, the ACSO may not like me much, but I guess Captain Rivers does." She said with a smile. While she pulled out the few articles of clothing she had unpacked and repacked them, she had the computer play the messages from her family. One turned out to be from her six year old niece who thought it was terribly important to inform Alba that she had gotten a new fish and she and named it Alba after her. The other was from her sister and contained a recipe for a vegetable dish that she was making for a dinner party that she was having. "Obviously, dear sister, you haven't eaten my cooking for a while. It's positively abysmal." She said to the terminal, nodding very matter of factly. She went thru a checklist of everything she had and double checked the storage spaces twice to make sure she wasn't forgetting anything. Once she was certain that all was in order, she headed for the transporter room, a PADD with her downloaded orders in hand. (USS Rosenante, Deck 3: Security Offices – Acting Second Officer/Acting Tactical Chief & Security Chief, Lt. Jono Janeway – 1634) “Computer set default lighting to 4.75” He said as he walked through the security and tactical offices. The place was completely dead, there was no one and Jono suspected this would be the only time he’d see this place as silent as it was now. He had taken a quick tour of the ship and found that all the security provisions and additions he had made to the Champlain had already been implemented here. With the addition of one new system, the RBFF: The Rotating Build in Force Fields, which were active all the time. They were placed strategically every 10 metres or so and glowed a bright red. They had an intensity of 6 and were designed to slow down boarding parties and restrict areas of from the crew. The forcefields would see that a crewmembers comm. Badge wanted to go through the forcefields and would allow the crewmember to pass. The forcefields wouldn’t get in the way (so he had been assured) or medical emergencies as the forcefields had a knock on effect on each other. No matter what speed the subject was travelling, if they had a comm. Badge on the forcefield would be gone before they reached it… unless they weren’t allowed access to that area. It had taken Janeway a few stops to get used to the idea of these forcefields, he had taken a quick trip to Engineering and saw the secondary security panel which Moto controlled from down in Engineering if the ship was ever boarded… Had Moto been assigned to the Rose though? He hadn’t checked. He checked through the codes he had been issued with and walked into the office he had finally found. He instinctively went into the Sec Chief’s office but quickly backtracked outside to where the door was. He did a double take, side-by-side were the Sec & Tac chiefs offices. He looked at both, ~Errr…~ He walked into the security chiefs office without a second thought, after all he was only Acting Tactical Chief. He sat down behind his new desk and pulled the padd out he had transferred all the details of his reassignment on and quickly skipped ahead to the section he needed. “Computer recognise Lt. Jonathan Janeway. Janeway beta223522” [Lt. Jonathan Janeway recognised, automatic registration commencing. Acting Second Officer Codes being transferred. Acting Tactical Chief Codes being transferred. Security Chief Codes being transferred.] “Lovely” He said and then checked the time. ~Just got time to check by my quarters and then head to the meeting~ (USS Rosenante, Deck 3: CSEC/CTAC Quarters – Acting Second Officer/Acting Tactical Chief & Security Chief, Lt. Jono Janeway – 1640) Jono turned round the corner, his quarters were apparently appallingly close to his office which meant he would constantly be on call. He walked down the corridor. [Chief of Security’s Quarters to the Right] Jono looked to his right and saw the little electronic plaque with: ‘Chief of Security, Lt. Janeway’ written on it. He was about to enter it when the computer continued. [Chief of Tactical’s Quarters to the Left] He turned around and saw that directly opposite the CSEC’s quarters was another door with an identical electronic plaque reading: ‘Chief of Tactical, Lt. Janeway’ ~You have to be kidding me~ He thought, wondering when Sullivan would return. He turned back to the Security Chief’s quarters again telling him that was his position. He quickly dropped off his bags and freshened up slightly. He pocketed several padd’s of data on the Rose as well as the security teams which were being assigned to it, he hadn’t managed to read through this yet. He headed for a Turbolift and wondered how many new and old faces he would see In the observation lounge. “Deck 8” (USS Rosenante- Corridor – Ops – Ensign Smith – 2nd Lieutenant Smith - 1645) Robert and Kenneth walked along the corridor as they explored the new ship. Robert looked over at Kenneth and smiled. “Can you believe it. I’m on a Rosenanté class. This is amazing. I had heard about this ship from a friend but I never thought that I would be serving on one.” Kenneth rolled her eyes. “Its just a ship what makes it so special. It takes you from A to B.” Robert gave a sigh. “Trust a marine to think like that.” “Well I know your going to tell me all about the ship give me a moment so I can blow my head off with the boredom.” Robert gave Kenneth a nasty glear. “Thanks Kenneth. Nice to have you as a brother.” Kenneth grinned and slapped him on the back. “I would listen to you all day long even if I had to see the physiatrist afterwards.” “Before you go all huffy on me we better go and get ready for the meeting we don’t want to be late.” With that they hurried of down the corridor. (posted by Robbie) (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - Crewman Shadow to Sretalles - 1645) Shadow had never thought she'd see the inside of a senior officer's meeting, but the Captain had said there was some paperwork and notes to be taken. That seemed a little underwhelming, so Shadow had decided that she'd put it on herself to find drinks and snacks suitable to all senior officers and placed them on the table. She wasn't quite sure how officers normally seated themselves at meetings. She'd never been in a multi-personnel meeting even. Well, surely the Captain would sit at the head of the table. That was easy. She put Susan's tea, with its warmer, at the head of the table. The biscuits smelled a bit overly sweet to the Siavaon, but the Captain seemed to like them. So, if the Captain went at the head, then the first officer would be at her right. That was the traditional place in human society and they seemed to be the ones who made all the rules for the Federation. She'd had lots of time on the various transports to read the human story books she'd found in the Traveller's database. She fanged her lip as she thought about where else to put people. Tail twisting didn't provide answers and she didn't have a lot of time. Inspiration struck and she asked the replicator, pretty please and thank you, for one of the rotating shelves that you could put in the middle of a table and people could just turn to get what they wanted. Having set up one she frowned, it was a rather big table. The Captain must be expecting a lot of officers! Shadow was very glad she could hide in the Captain's shadow and not have to interact with so many strange and new people. Even the first officer, who she'd spoken to before and knew by scent, was scary enough. Anyway, she shook her head from her distracting thoughts and put up two more of the rotating shelves on the table and put out tea and coffee carafes, some cookies, some biscuits, and some replicated beef jerky encase there were carnivores attending. She didn't think there was anyone on the ship who didn't eat vegetables or grains, but better safe than sorry. Every seat had a PADD. A mug, some napkins. Maybe this wasn't supposed to be a social event, but Shadow was pretty sure, unless there was a ship imploding, the first major meeting of colleagues would turn into a gathering pretty quick no matter what the Captain tried. And the Captain was a very smart lady and wouldn't try to derail socializing until it was out of the fur. So, everything ready, she was pretty sure, she took up her own PADD and sat in the chair in the corner, behind and to the left of the Captain's. Which meant, she could stare out the window for as long as she liked while various people did, or didn't, show up. (Posted by Lorna) (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- CONN-Lt. Dralar- 1648) Dralar strode into the observation lounge with purpose. He was glad to be back on a Federation vessel It seemed a more noble thing to serve here than to sit at court and waste away with endless chatter and political dealings. He was the second person to arrive. A woman of a feline persuasion was here already. Dralar was startled and jerked backwards instinctively, his claws in the air as if to ward off attack. (reply Shadow) It took a supreme force of will to force himself to relax, he had thought at first that she was a Ikthay, a primitive predator that once hunted his people. They still existed in the deep wilds and the stories of them were so terrible that to be cast out with wings broken among them was a capital crime on his world. He stood, more upright, and tucked his wings, which he had thrust open in a threatening gesture, closed. "I am sorry, you startled me." he said simply, head cocked to one side to regard the female Ikthay, or whatever she was. (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - Crewman Shadow to Sretalles - 1649) Shadow's ears swivelled when the officer came in, but she was busy pretending to study the PADD in front of her, when reality she was watching the stars dance. His sudden movement into an attack position, however, caught her attention in a hurry. Her first instinct was fluffed out fur, and retaliation of claws, but good sense overruled and before she did more than enlarge that this was an officer and elder and if he wanted to eat her for lunch, that was his prerogative! Instead, she dropped the PADD with a squeak and dived behind the chair to be as small a black bundle as she possibly could, trying to keep furniture between her and her would-be attacker. He stood, more upright, and tucked his wings behind him. "I am sorry, you startled me." he said studying her from a less aggressive stance. "Mrrrk!" She muttered in less than polite Siaovan. "I ssscare you?!" she whispered, still behind the chair, but green eyes looking over the seat at the very large avianoid. Fur was still sticking out every which way, her tail three times its usual size. That beak looked like it could pierce duranium hull if it so wanted! Her tail was lashing behind her, as if trying to decide if it wanted to be amused, terrified or irritated. She hoped she hadn't broken the PADD, she wasn't sure how she would replace one if she broke it! (Posted by Lorna) (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- CONN-Lt. Dralar- 1650) The feline had taken cover behind some furniture. She had grown larger, much like Dralar had in his moment of primal fear. ~Perhaps there are predators much like me on her world.~ He thought. "My apologies, I thought you for an Ikthay. But I see I was mistaken." He glanced at her, still using the captain's chair as a protective barrier between them. "Please let us begin again in a more civilized manner. I am Dralar, I am the Conn officer for this vessel. Do you have a name?" (reply Shadow iyw) (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Rosenante, Deck 8: Obs Lounge – Acting Second Officer/Acting Tactical Chief & Security Chief, Lt. Jono Janeway – 1651) He walked through the observation lounge and noticed Lt. Dralar immediately and he seemed to be catching the back-end of a conversation; “…Do you have a name?” Dralar said in his confident overpowering voice. The Skorr had done well in the MDP battle and he and Jono seemed to work rather well together. He let the Yeomen answer Dralar before moving forward to the table. He had seen ‘Shadow’ around the Hypatia & Champlain but never had the chance to speak with the individual outside the limited official capacity due to time restrictions. “Good to see the both of you have been assigned here also.” He said walking around to what looked like the similar seat that he held on the Champlain. To the left of the Captain by one seat. (Posted by Jono) (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- Ops – Ensign Smith – 2nd Lieutenant Smith - 1655) Robert and Kenneth entered the observation lounge. They nodded to the members of the crew who were there. They sat near bottom of the table. Robert picked up his PADD and scanned through it. Kenneth leaned over to him and showed him what was on his PADD. Robert saw that it was a list of the senior staff. He gave him a slight strange look. Kenneth leaned over and said quietly. “There is no Chops at the moment.” Robert gave a slight grin at Kenneth’s slang for Chief of Operations. “But Zanarra is Assistant Chops.” He replied quietly so that there conversation would not be over heard. Kenneth nodded. “Zanarra is joiner to you. So would that not make you Chops?” Robert shook his head. “No and you know that. For all I know Zanarra is going to be made Chops or they will get some one from out side. Lets just see what happens okay. I’m just glad to be starting a mission.” Kenneth nodded and went back to going over his PADD. (posted by Robbie) (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - Ensign(jg) Alba Tuk - 1655) Alba was pleased that she had finally managed to get transported over to the ship and that she still had a few moments to spare before the meeting was slated to begin. The whole time she had waited, she just knew beyond the shadow of any doubt that she was going to be late. There was nothing like being late to the first official meeting on your newly assigned ship to make you feel like you didn't quite wake up on the prepared side of the bed this morning. Already there were several people that had arrived and taken seats. Some were chatting. The good majority of them she could place from being on the Hypatia. Alba took a seat and with much anticipation waited for the meeting to begin. All the while, she just couldn't stop smiling. (posted by Ruby) (USS Rosenante- Sickbay – Combat Nurse M’Epak - 1656) Her shift was not too bad. She had walked the whole ship so that she knew every area by off by heart. She was now double checking the medical inventory to make sure that the supply officer had not pilfered some of the equipment. ~Okay once this is done I’ll go and check the triage equipment.~ She had not see Chief Fuller but she had been away and things were hectic during the change over. She exited the supply room and saw that nurse fisher were also working in sickbay. ~Wounder what kind of mood she is in today~ M’Epak had enjoyed working with her. It had taken some time to get to understand the way Fisher worked but in the end she found her a very knowable boss and a good teacher. Even though she had a bad tendency to wind her up. She walked up to her with her PADD. “Chief Nurse Fisher. I have completed the sickbay stock checks. Do you mind if I go to triage and go over their equipment?" (posted by Robbie) (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - ACMO Lieutenant(jg) Nissa Whetari - 1657) It had taken Nissa a short time to figure out where she was headed, but she soon made it to the Observation Lounge. Plopping down in an empty seat, she looked around the room, smiling the familiar faces. Reading a letter from one of her alfryf, one of the other children that grew up in the Healing House, Nissa frowned. One of the kids that she grew up with had died in the war, though he was a couple years younger than Nissa and she hadn't seen him in years, she and the house mourned his loss. It had been awkward spending time on Aldea, to some degree - most of the on-world Aldeans remained loyalists during the war. Aldea was divorced from most of the daily goings-on of the Federation, preferring to rebuild the society that had come so close to extinction. Many Aldeans viewed the Federation with a good deal of optimism, hope, and gratitude, so those who had chosen to fight against Doenitz were viewed as traitors by a good deal of the population. Some of Nissa's friends and family understood her position and supported her and the 52nd Fleet, but they were in the minority on her home planet. Her neighbors were apologetic and polite, for the most part, but part of Nissa was glad to be somewhere else. ~Though I was never one for meetings,~ Nissa thought with a smile, as she sat back waiting for the meeting to begin. (Posted by Sarah Feldman) (USS Rosenante-Observation Lounge-ACOUNS Ens(Sg) Dorga 'cha Nooras & SO Ens(Sg) Ro'Dal-1658) Dorga pushed her now empty plate away and took a swig of ratkajino, she hated meetings, always had, but when food was provided it made her feel better about them and she hadn't eaten since noon so she was more than ready to fill up the tank again. The place had filled rapidly since she'd arrived, she'd seen every person there ahead of her and nodding to each whether she knew them or not. She'd eaten her meal while watching the door, seeing familiar faces and new ones on all those who had walked through the door after her, including the irritating Takaran security officer, Ro'Dal. You couldn't help noticing her, she was hard to miss. ~So...She made it off the Champs I see.~ Dorga had thought, unsure as to whether she was disappointed or just making an observation and she told herself it was the latter, giving the tall Takaran a cool nod of acknowledgment as the woman sat down opposite her. ~Oh great, I get to look at her for stars know how long!~ Ro'Dal sensed that the counselor didn't like her much, and couldn't help wondering why. ~She does not know me at all. I am not an unpleasant person.~ For some reason the mixed blood female had taken um bridge over being ordered to the life pods of the Champlain by Ro'. ~Perhaps I should not have threatened to render her unconscious if she did not comply.~ She thought, returning the nod. ~Then again, perhaps I should just have rendered her unconscious, then she would have better reason for disliking me.~ That thought made Ro'Dal smile and it didn't go unnoticed by the counselor who surmised that the Takaran was being smug again and scowled at the woman. Ro'Dal just stared impassively at Dorga, showing no trace of emotion and turned her head to look about at all the people there. She couldn't remember seeing so many at a meeting before. Her gaze fell on her Department Head and she smiled to him, then moving on she noticed a feline looking being she hadn't seen before and whom she watched for a while, intrigued and fascinated. Gaze moving on again she paused yet again on a bird-like being. ~Fascinating, I was unaware that we had such a diverse crew.~ Not wanting to appear rude by staring, she studied her PADD and waited for the meeting to start, uncomfortably aware of hostile eyes drilling in to the top of her skull. (posted by Sal) (USS Rosenante - Observation Lounge - CO, Captain Susan Rivers -1659) With one minute to go, Susan and Ahmed entered the Observation Lounge. It was not Susan's practice to arrive quite so close to the time of the meeting; in fact, she liked to be there at least ten and preferably 15 minutes beforehand. If she expected her officers to be prompt, she reasoned, the least she could do was be so herself. But there had been a lot to see on this first visit to her new command, and a lot to get familiar with. The children were already established in her generous-sized quarters, and one of the NCOs was keeping an eye on them. Her lips twitched slightly as she caught sight of Shadow; no doubt the yeoman would far rather have been playing with Loren and Shun and Luisa, but this was the first official meeting on board the Rosenante and Susan had wished Shadow to be present. There was a lot to be discussed and there would need to be comprehensive notes taken. She nodded appreciatively at Shadow as she saw the refreshments laid out. She would remember to speak to her later. Quite a few were already there waiting as Susan took her seat at the head of the table, Ahmed on her right and Jono on her left. She made a mental note of who was there and who was not; new ship or not they had all had plenty of notice. Some, of course, would be joining them after today and so would not be present, but there were one or two faces absent that she had expected to see. The small box she had had placed under the table near her seat was ready and waiting. But for the moment, Susan waited for the rest of the senior staff and assistants to arrive. (Posted by Liz) (USS Rosenante- Observation Lounge- Ops - Ensign (jg) Zanarra - 1659) Zanarra watched the door close behind the Captain and First Officer just moments before she reached it. She hadn't managed to get lost, per say on the new ship, but she had taken longer then a few moments to look around the Operations offices. She was amazed at how much space they had available to them. As the doors reopened, they had already taken seats at the table. She spotted an open seat near Ensign Smith and sat there, giving him a polite nod as she did so. Knowing that the Captain would be starting the meeting soon, she directed her attention to her and waited. (posted by Ruby) (Valhalla - Rosenante - Umbilical cord 5 - Security check post - SciO Ensign John Linskens and civilian Francesca dela Rosa - 17:05) Francesca held tight to Inez's hand as the family made their way towards the checkpoint. She was very happy for John; finally he had got what he seemed to want - a position as a science officer, on a ship dedicated to exploration and discovery. He was now removed from the chain of command, and it was obvious to Francesca at least that he relished the chance to once again be a 'proper' scientist, without the need to embroil himself in departmental administration or other duties that from time to time fell upon the shoulders of a line officer. "Look at the pretty ship, sweetie," she said to Inez. "That's going to be our new home." Inez looked dutifully. "Nice ship," she commented. "Big ship. Bigger than runbout." They had travelled from Geneva in a runabout, bringing with them the things that Captain Rivers' wards had left behind in storage. There hadn't been that much, to be honest, although John's face had been a picture when he had realised they were to have charge of Susan's cat for another couple of months whilst she travelled to Bajor and Andor with her family. He had, however, agreed politely enough. The Linskens family had arrived at Valhalla the day before, and Pangur Ban had been reunited with Susan the same evening. Not a moment too soon, as John had put it as soon as they were out of earshot of Captain Rivers. Winston (John's pet Pelluvian Howler) had hated Pangur Ban and the feeling had apparently been mutual. Which had made the two-week trip in the runabout interesting to say the least. "Assistant Chi-... Science Officer John Linskens and family reporting in," John said as he showed his PADD to the security detail. "Francesca dela Rosa and Inez dela Rosa Linskens as shown on the PADD." "I'm to be one of the teachers in the school," Francesca added. That had pleased her enormously - the fact that John had been assigned to a long-range explorer meant there would be plenty of families aboard and the provision of a school for the children enabled her to resume her profession. And she considered it might also be good for John to see other parents and families. "That looks in order," the security officer said, handing the PADD back to John. "All senior staff are in a meeting at the moment, so you won't be able to report in officially just yet, but you can locate your quarters and get settled in." He handed Francesca another PADD from a small stack beside him. "Deckplans, miss. She's a big ship, you won't want to get lost, not with the little one and all." "Thank you," Francesca said gratefully as she took the PADD, earning her a glance from John. "Have any other scientists reported in?" John asked. The security officer grinned. "Since about a fifth of the crew are scientists, and this is a new ship with brand new facilities, you can bet your life there's a good few on board already. Hal here had to beat some of them off with a stick earlier," he joked. John sighed. "One fifth, and I'm not in command," he mumbled. He then fell silent for a second. "Percival would have liked it here," he said louder. "He would," agreed Francesca. "You'll have to tell him about it." John looked at Francesca, Inez and Winston in his travel cage, peering mournfully through the mesh. "I guess we'd better get the three of you quartered in first and then I'll await the arrival of Lieutenant Tallos in the main Science Lab. Her offices are not far from there." "That sounds like a good idea," Francesca agreed. "Maybe I can check out the school facilities too. Inez could come with me." John nodded and led his family to the entrance of the umbilical cord. He, however, halted for a moment, hesitating to take the next step. Another duty station, another assignment. And not for the first time he started wondering whether he had made the right choice, remaining in Starfleet. But with the war over and lots of rebuilding in progress, grants for independent research were limited to say the least. He sighed as he considered ~at least she's not tactical~ before following the two into the umbilical cord. Francesca noticed John's hesitation, but made no comment. She guessed his feelings would be mixed; he had done a lot of heart searching before deciding to remain in Starfleet and she wondered sometimes if he regretted the decision. She had, however, also noticed that on Geneva he had spent a good deal of time in one of the observation lounges, looking out at the stars. ~Only time will tell~ she thought to herself. ~And only he can know what he really wants. At least, I hope he will find out what that is.~ (reply none yet) (Posted by Adrie and Liz) __________ NOD32 2851 (20080205) Information __________ This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system. http://www.eset.com
