Her job would have been much easier to do if they hadn't taken part of the communications relay offline sometime during Gamma shift. There was still verbal communications available, but the data transmission portion was offline for the duration. Engineering's response to when it would be back online was less then promising and had equated to "sometime soon". In the meantime, she still had supplies that the ship required that needed to be requested for the remaining personnel. While the majority of the crew was either on leave or on the Star Base for the duration of the repairs to the Hypatia there were still more then enough to keep her busy. Since they had taken out part of the crew quarters so that links could be checked and new hardware could be put into place, her current quarters were on the Star Base. That in itself had proven to be somewhat of an inconvenience as she had to wait to be transferred to the ship and back from the ship at the start and conclusion of her shift each day. Armed with an armful of PADDs contained the requisitions that had been signed off on at the start of Alpha shift, Zanarra headed into the hectic Requisitions Office and stepped up to a human Ensign that looked like she was already hoping the shift was over. "Ensign," Zanarra said to get her attention, "I have several supply requests for the Hypatia that require attention. Would you be able to assist me?" "For the Hypatia?" the Ensign replied as though she hadn't heard a word that Zanarra had said except for the ship name. "Yes, for the Hypatia. It is currently undergoing repairs." She replied. "Oh." The ensign's eyes then fell to the numerous PADDs cradled in Zanarra's arm. "Um...I think you'll need to talk to the Lieutenant T'Pan. She's in the office over there." The ensign pointed. "Thank you, Ensign." Zanarra replied. She headed immediately to the office that the Ensign had indicated. The door to the office was already open. She stepped to the threshold and addressed the officer seated at the desk. "Lieutenant, I have several supply requests for the Hypatia that require attention. Would you be able to assist me?" She said repeating what she had said to the Ensign just moments before. The Lieutenant looked up at her and Zanarra could tell that the officer was evaluating her to some degree. "Provided the requests have been approved, Ensign, I should be able to assist you." Zanarra nodded and stepped into the room. Picking the PADD on the top, she handed it over to the Lieutenant. "Why are you hand delivering these requests, Ensign?" The Lieutenant asked as she checked the authorization on the request. "The Hypatia is currently unable to transmit data over communications." She shuffled thru the PADDs and pulled out the one that had the replacement equipment for the communications relay listed in detail and handed it to the Lieutenant. "I see. You may as well hand me the rest of those as well then, if they are all for this office. As long as everything is in order the station should be able to provide the necessary materials." Zanarra couldn't help but think that the disclaimer was something that the Lieutenant repeated many times on a daily basis. Zanarra nodded and waited while the Lieutenant verified the requests. In short order, the Lieutenant shuffled thru the requests. "Your requests are in order, Ensign. I've transmitted them to Fulfillment. Delivery estimates are indicated on the request. Update these to the ship when you return. When the data transfer is once again operational, it will update to the station." With the PADDs done the Lieutenant restacked them and handed them back to Zanarra. "If there is nothing else, Ensign." "No, nothing else, Sir." Zanarra replied, taking the PADDs and heading back out of the office and back toward the transport so she could return to the ship. There would be time enough while she waited her turn to verify the requests were scheduled as the Lieutenant had indicated. (posted by Ruby) Stardate: 2407.10.10 (USS Hades, Bridge, FO (Champlain) - Lt. Cmdr. Ahmed Ibn Salid- 1000) With TJ and Mattrim's agreement, Ahmed had managed to clear himself up for lunch with Debbie (alone) and had just stepped onto the bridge with a sense of wonder. He remembered not that long ago when he had reported in to Captain sash for the first time on the Nimitz. They had been in the transporter room on Geneva station not aboard the Nimitz as he had expected. Still, he knew it had been weeks since he had needed to go to the bridge of that fine ship. That had been the first he had seen, then there was the Champlain, the Hypatia and now the Hades. ~Four ships~ he thought to himself, ~You've only seen the bridge of four starships in your entire career, Ahmed. You didn't, and of those you've only actually served on the bridge on two of them.~ He smiled at the wry humor of it and stepped over to the Ready Room Door, he already knew that the captain, his first CO and mentor was inside, he'd queried the ship's computer before he came up to the bridge. Thomas had stayed in Main Engineering and TJ had returned to his duty station at operations. It pleased Ahmed to know that his friend seemed more able and confident then he ever had before. Ahmed stopped, resisted the urge to adjust his uniform tunic and pressed the chime. (reply Sash) Once permission was given to enter, the door slid open silently and Ahmed stepped into the ready room. It was a complete divorce form those found on the sovereign. Larger in some respects, but there was a military understatement about it that Ahmed wasn't certain that he liked. The Prometheus was a warship first and an explorer a distant second. The class had been designed to combat the Borg threat and instead had been deployed on both sides of the lines to wreck havoc on their opponents with chilling effectiveness. Ahmed had a momentary flashback of the Martinique pounding the Champlain with her weapons and then another of the Persephone, cutting down the Champlain's life boats as they tried to escape the dying ship. He forced the images from his mind and smiled. "Hello Captain," he said, "Good to see you sir." (posted by Daniel Greene) Stardate: 2408.01.02 (USS Hypatia - Bridge - Sciences - Ensign(jg) Alba Tuk - 0940) Nothing could be more tedious then calibrating sensors from their default. Doubling the lack of excitement was the fact that in this case each bank of sensors had to be done individually. For what seemed like the thousandth time, Alba sat waiting for a response from the science lab that the last calibration matched what they had. While she waited for the green light so that they could move on to the next calibration, her mind wondered. In the imaginary holodeck time that she had scheduled for sometime after the end of shift, she'd already determined that she was going to go hoverboarding. She had a small hoverboard that she'd brought back with her and even though it wouldn't quite go as fast or be as smooth as the larger models it was perfect in size for her. In her imaginary holodeck she would whip through the small cape at the north of Izos and down the coast as far and as fast as she could go with the wind wiping over her. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the communication beep from the Science lab. She opened the line and immediately was confronted by the expected familiar voice. "What took you so long?" Quinn said her voice in mock exasperation. "I was um... checking something... yeah, that's what I was doing. I was checking something." Alba replied with a grin that she knew Quinn couldn't see. "I just bet you were. Probably checking to see how many excuses you could come up with to get out of doing calibrations." She replied. "No no no! Nothing like that." Alba wasn't about to say that she was daydreaming and not keeping on task. Even if they were good friends, there was no reason to say it out loud. ~At least not while on duty! ~ "Yeah, ok." Quinn resigned, "Sensor bank number 77a reads a match. Sensor bank number 77b reads a match. Sensor bank number 77c reads a match. Sensor bank number 77d reads a deviation. Suggest parameter adjustment for Sensor bank 77 relays to either a plus or minus 0.039 in sensitivity dependant upon reaction." Alba noted the readings on her end and began making the suggested adjustments. History of all the adjustments made thus far would say that the suggestion verses the actual would deviate by approximately 0.005 and would still show to be out of calibration until the 0.005 was taken into account. "I'm on it, Quinny. Recheck in one minute. Same as last time, I'll run thru the readings and you let me know which one works out." "Gotcha. Sciences out." Pretty much the rest of the shift continued in the same way. Alba was glad to turn the remainder of the duty when the shift was over. She'd promised Quinn that they would have dinner together after they'd each had a chance to go change. Alba couldn't help but notice how sad her quarters looked since Engineering had to redo the whole thing to reconnect wiring. They had to pull up the deck plating and in doing so had removed the thick blue carpet. She had made some inquiries about if it would be replaced only to be informed that it wasn't a top priority at the moment. Her consolation was that she was on 'the list'. Personally, she wanted to get her hands on said list and see for herself if it was actually on it. She'd been so tempted to unpack some of her things to make the room cheerier, but in the end decided against it. There were quite a few officers that had been temporarily assigned to the Hypatia that she'd heard talking about getting new orders and some had even already left for their new assignments. Certainly it wouldn't be too long now before she'd be finding out if she was going to be staying or going. (posted by Ruby) Stardate : 2407.01.05. (USS Hypatia - Main Engineering - CEO -Lt.(jg) Paul Bird - 1231) The journey back aboard the Traveller had been one of mixed emotions for Paul .He was sad to leave his family behind , not knowing when he would next see them , he would have to try his best to get to his sister's wedding . This was more than over come with his excitement at being back on board ship and amongst his engines . He was also very happy to see certain crew members again . He was however disappointed at the state of his engines , there was absolutely nothing wrong with them . The repair crew had done a very good job of fixing them , leaving Paul no nothing to get his hands dirty over . All he could do was check the work that had been done , and he had found no faults . This week he had been back on board had in fact rather dull, except for his time with Carol . Still the captain was due back tonight , and so they would soon be heading of , he assumed . ~better just send her a memo , telling her the engines are a 100.~ The Hypatia was ready to boldly go . ( Posted By Paul ) Stardate: 2408.01.06 (USS Hypatia - Ready Room - CO, Captain Susan Rivers - 0800) Having arrived back late the night before, Susan was getting an early start in her Ready Room. Leonal was looking after Luisa in their temporary quarters, and Shun and Loren had been detailed to help unpack - not only the things they had all taken with them on vacation, but their possessions that had been in storage at Geneva. She expected to find numerous messages and she wasn't disappointed. She was, however, surprised to find on a quick run through the senders that none of them were from her FO. All the more so since he had told her of his intention to return to duty a few days previously. "Computer, what is the location of Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid?" [Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid is on Starbase Valhalla, Engineering Operations Section, Section 5, Room 417.] Susan frowned. She couldn't think why Ahmed would be on Valhalla instead of aboard the ship. "Why is he there and not here?" [Please restate the question.] Susan sighed. Getting information out of the computer's voice interface was sometimes like playing 20 Questions. "Why is Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid not aboard this ship?" [Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid has been assigned to Starbase Valhalla temporarily, pending reassignment to another vessel.] Susan frowned. There must be some mistake here. "Who is the First Officer of the USS Hypatia?" she demanded. [There is no First Officer currently assigned to the USS Hypatia.] "What??" [There is no First Officer currently assigned to the USS Hypatia.] "Yes, yes, I heard you the first time. Who is the Chief of Personnel on Starbase Valhalla?" [The Chief of Personnel on Starbase Valhalla is Commander Josel.] "Establish a link to Commander Josel." Within moments, a female Vulcan Commander appeared on the small screen on the desk. =/\=How may I assist you, Captain Rivers?=/\= she enquired. "You can start by explaining why my First Officer has been reassigned," Susan said coldly. =/\=I assume you are referring to Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid? He is awaiting assignment as CEO to a suitable vessel.=/\= "He requested a transfer?" Susan asked, surprised. =/\=No, I reviewed the roster for the Hypatia and decided that Lt Commander Salid was insufficiently experienced to serve as First Officer of the Hypatia. There is a memo to you on the subject. You yourself will shortly be reassigned to another vessel. There is another memo to you on that subject, from Admiral Linden.=/\= "Oh there is, is there," Susan muttered grimly. =/\=Indeed there is; although I do not know the name of your new command I have been instructed to prepare for the arrival of the new CO. Therefore I would appreciate it if you would vacate the Hypatia within 24 hours. I would normally not give so long but you have just returned from an extended leave.=/\= Somehow, despite the fact that the Vulcan's voice remained flat and without inflexion, Susan got the impression that the personnel officer disapproved of starfleet officers in general and captains in particular taking an extended period of leave. =/\=I suggest you review the Admiral's memo and get in touch again if you have any further queries. Good day, Captain.=/\= With that Josel disappeared and her face was replaced by the starfleet insignia, signifying that the communication had been terminated. Fuming quietly to herself, Susan flicked rapidly through the messages until she came to the one from Admiral Hesper Linden. Opening it, the face of the Admiral appeared on her screen in a recorded message. =/\=Good day, Susan. I hope you enjoyed your leave. I'm sorry for the short notice, but we have a new ship for you. The USS Rosenante. She's rather special; the first of her class. You can view the history and logs of her construction with your command codes, but in short she's a dedicated long-range explorer.=/\= Linden smiled. =/\=A change for you, I know. But since you have a young family, I hope you won't object too much to being given command of an explorer rather than a ship of the line. We need someone in command of her we can rely on; she has various modifications and innovations that are a radical departure for Starfleet and we hope she'll be the first of a new line of long-range explorers. Starfleet needs to rehabilitate itself in the eyes of the population of the Federation after the civil war, and alongside protecting our borders we need to return to our founding principles, among which is seeking out new life and new civilisations, to coin a phrase. You'll get your orders in about a week, until then you have my authority to hand-pick your officers and crew. Choose wisely, Susan. You and your crew may well find yourselves away from the amenities of Federation space for long periods of time. You have also been assigned a specialist engineer to assist your CEO Lt Bird. He is Lt Steven Wade Matrix, formerly of the USS Paladin, who has been doing some work on the experimental spiral drive - which you'll read about. He will be reporting in to you at 1200 hours on the day you return to duty. Lt Commander Zzt has also been temporarily assigned to the Rosenante for her maiden voyage to assist with the other new technologies.=/\= Linden smiled again. =/\=Your yeoman forwarded your request and to be honest I can't think of anyone I'd rather see in command of the Rosenante, Susan. She's a lovely ship. If I were a couple of decades younger... Anyway, she's yours. Enjoy her. Linden out.=/\= The screen returned to the starfleet insignia again, and Susan stared at it for a moment. ~Oh boy~ She pulled up the files on the Rosenante, having to enter her command codes several times to do so. Once she got them, however, she grinned broadly. This was the ship she had seen in dry dock, months ago. But what had Linden meant about her yeoman forwarding a request? She didn't remember asking Shadow to do so. Then suddenly something else that the admiral had said came back to her and smiling even more, she accessed the roster and compiled a crew list. Finally she requested to be reconnected to Commander Josel. The Vulcan again appeared on the screen. =/\=How may I assist you, Captain Rivers?=/\= she asked impassively for the second time that morning, nevertheless somehow managing to convey the impression that what she really meant was 'what do you want *this* time?' "You can order Lt Commander Salid to report to me in transporter room one of the Hypatia at 0900 hours. Inform him that he has been reassigned as my FO with immediate effect." =/\=But - =/\= "You will also inform him that we are moving ship," Susan interrupted ruthlessly. "We are taking command of the USS Rosenante, also with immediate effect. When you have contacted Lt Commander Salid and given him the message, you will then inform every person on the list I am about to send you that they have been reassigned to the USS Rosenante with immediate effect. There will be a meeting for the senior staff in the Observation Lounge, Deck 8, of the USS Rosenante at 1700 this evening. Attendance is mandatory. When you have done that, please arrange for Lt Commander Zzt to be temporarily assigned to the USS Rosenante for her maiden voyage. This is all on the authority of Rear Admiral Hesper Linden, 52nd Fleet. Clear?" =/\=Perfectly, Captain. But - =/\= "No buts, Commander. Those are my orders." =/\=Very well, Captain Rivers. Is there is anything else?=/\= "Not for now, Commander. But I'll be sure to let you know if there is. Rivers out." With a smile of satisfaction, Susan closed the link . Grinning broadly, she punched the air, then and sent the crew list she had prepared. That done, she began to prepare for the transfer to her new ship. First on the list was telling Leonal and the children, and she decided to do that in person. Standing up, she left the Ready Room still smiling broadly. (Posted by Liz) (Valhalla- Engineering Operations- FO-Lt. Cmdr. Ahmed Ibn Salid- - 0830) "No, that won't work lieutenant, we can't assign the same work crew to back-to-back shifts, on two different ships at two different ship yards." "I'm sorry sir? What are you talking about?" lieutenant Palters replied, seemingly genuinely confused. "Yesterday you assigned Lieutenant Gardner's repair team to the USS Gresham from 1000 to 1300 hours, today your addendum, mind you- not a revision, to that same schedule has them assigned to the USS Iroquois from 1300 hours to 1800 hours." "Considering that the Gresham is in slip three and the Iroquois in slip twenty-two, and there is no travel time permitted between the assignments, I don't see how they could possible make it. Additionally, you've scheduled them for ten solid hours in five hours chunks. You've given them no time for breaks or lunches. Take this back and amend it." Ahmed explained. "You've seen a couple of hundred reports since yesterday morning, how in the world could you possibly remember all that?" Palters asked. "I pay attention to the details, Lieutenant, it's something that you should learn to do as well. It will take you a long way." ~Not that it's done me much good at the present.~ "Commander Salid! Communication for you in your office, sir." a voice shouted. "Well, looks like I need to take that. " he said, " Your dismissed lieutenant." Ahmed strode across the room to his pitifully small office. He entered, squeezed behind the desk and pressed the button that connected the communication. The UFP logo was replaced by the face of Commander Josel. ~Great, now she's found me a ship to serve on as Chief Engineer.~ he thought to himself. "What do you want commander Josel?" he said in a slightly irritated tone. =^=I have received new orders for you commander.=^= she said without expression. "Let me guess, Chief Engineer of a Oberth or maybe a floating hulk?" Salid replied with obvious dislike in his tone. =^=You humans are so emotional.=^= Josel replied, =^=I can not fathom why anyone would want such an illogical creature as yourself in a command position, Mister Salid=^=" "I'm a hit at all the parties?" he responded sardonically. There was a slight pause as the Vulcan regarded him coolly, =^=However, despite my better judgment and against my will I have been ordered to advise you to report to Transporter Room one aboard the USS Hypatia at 0900 hours this morning.=^= Ahmed raised an eyebrow. =^=Additionally, you will reassigned as First Officer of the USS Rosenante, to take affect immediately, under the command of Captain Susan Rivers.=^= Ahmed smiled. "That's excellent news commander, thank you." =^=The news is illogical and I fear the consequences may be disastrous. It is apparent that despite your lack of qualifications, that you have made an emotional attachment with Captain Rivers. It is my sincerest hope that your ship and your crewmates do not regret her lack of logical decision-making.=^= =^=All things considered Commander, I might suggest to you that you decline the position and instead take a position as an engineer, a job for which you are more than qualified to handle, unlike that position of first officer.=^= Ahmed smiled. "Commander, I *feel* that it would be foolish to make this decision based on your judgment. I'd much rather take my chances trusting Captain River's than you. Thank you commander, Salid out." Ahmed reached down and disconnected the call even as the commander was formulating another response. (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Hypatia - Transporter Room 1 - CO Captain Susan Rivers and FO Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid, 0900) Ahmed was smiling even as his molecules were reassembling on transporter room one of the USS Hypatia. Just the very fact that Captain Rivers had managed to get him reassigned from the potential dead-end career track that Commander Josel had chosen for him was enough top make him happy for the rest of his days. He had finally managed to receive the bulk of his personal affects from Geneva where they had been stored against possible destruction or damage during the battle and he was ready to move to his new ship with all due haste. Over his left shoulder, he carried his personal carry-on. It contained a few changes of clothes, toiletries and other sundries, including a new and finally correct replicator recipe for Turkish Coffee. He was pleased to see Susan waiting for him as the transport process ended. In a clear even tone, he said, "Commander Salid, requesting permission to come aboard Captain." Susan smiled broadly. She had purposely made sure she was waiting for her FO when he arrived, guessing how he must have felt when Josel had announced he was unsuited for his command position. "Permission granted, Commander," she said formally. Then with no formality at all, she added "Welcome back, Number One. Leave your bag here with the transporter operator, and we'll go check out our new home!" "It's good to be back Captain, thank you." he replied. He stepped down from the transporter pad, still smiling and dropped his bag beside the transporter console. Ahmed had seen the Rosenante a few times in the dock while he was working on Valhalla. He'd always considered her a sleek sexy ship, the next stage of starship design evolution over the Sovereign. She'd been entirely off limits, No snooping around her decks or digging through any of her records or schematics. He had heard she was an experimental ship, perhaps some sort of dangerous secret weapon from the Doenitz Regime. He hadn't given it much more thought until he had been assigned to her. Now the anticipation of visiting such a mysterious vessel was almost palpable to him. He turned and headed back to the transporter pad and waited for Susan to join him there. "Transporter Room One, USS Rosenante," Susan said to the operator, before joining Ahmed on the pad. "They're expecting us," she added. With a keen sense of anticipation she hadn't felt for a long time, she felt the transporter beam grab her and the familiar tingling began... (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room One, CO Captain Susan Rivers and FO Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid, 0904) As they materialised on the pad, Susan nodded to the operator. "Commanding Officer, Captain Susan Rivers and First Officer, Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid requesting permission to come aboard," she said smoothly, her voice well schooled and not betraying the excitement she felt inside. "Permission granted, Captain, Commander. And may I add, welcome aboard to your new command. Transporter Operator Chief Petty Officer Brian O'Reilly at your service, ma'am. Admiral Linden instructed me to give you these on your arrival - she said you'd be here this morning," he added with a grin which he quickly repressed as he handed them each a PADD. "Ship deckplans," he explained. "And technical specifications for all departments." "Thank you, Chief," Susan said with a smile as she took the PADD. She looked at Ahmed. "Where first? The Bridge?" Ahmed took the PADD and immediately started shifting through the massive amounts of data available to him. There was too much here for him to absorb currently. "Yes, that sound like an excellent place to start, Captain." He replied. "lead the way." (USS Rosenante, Corridor, CO Captain Susan Rivers and FO Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid, 0908) The first thing Ahmed noticed were the active security forcefields in place every ten-meters on the ship. As they approached them, they would disengage, only to reactivate once they were safely past them. Glancing through the PADD Ahmed quickly found that they were active all the time, an innovation designed to restrict unwanted movement of personnel or enemy boarders through the ship. The corridors were a nice tan colour, a bit richer than the standard beige/white that graced most starships. The colour was earthy and pleasant, and was framed by deep rich black and glass. The console panels were radically different. Smaller displays equipped with very attractive LCARS interface and a holographic emitter as well. "Says here," he summarized as they walked," the fields are active all the time and are used to control crew movement or to slow down boarding parties. They key from the crew's commbadges and drop whenever the crewmember gets close enough. Also the entire ship is equipped for holographics in every compartment and corridor, but only the Holodecks are fully immersive." Susan nodded. "I gather the original specs were for some kind of black ops ship," she said. "After the fall of Doenitz that was hastily changed, and she was redesigned as a long-range explorer. I guess some of the original specs were kept in. It makes sense," she said reflectively. "If you're many lightyears from Federation space and any available help, then you need to be as self-sufficient as possible." She flashed a slightly amused look at Ahmed. "Clearly you haven't reached the engineering section yet," she observed. He shook his head, still trailing behind her as they entered the turbolift. "No I haven't, but judging from your tone, I think I may need to skip forward a bit," he added smiling. (USS Rosenante, Bridge, CO Captain Susan Rivers and FO Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid, 0915) As the turbolift raced its way to the bridge, Ahmed quickly skipped ahead to the engineering section of the reports. As the doors opened he let out a quiet whistle of appreciation. "Spiral Geometry Drive, " he said aloud, "now that sounds interesting." She smiled. "I knew you'd think so," she said. "I imagine Paul Bird will think so too. And we're getting a specialist engineer to work alongside Lt Bird, so that the two of them will be able to operate and assess it." Ahmed looked up from the PADD as they stepped out onto the bridge of the ship. There were aspects of the Sovereign class starship that he recognized, like the placement for the command positions, but beyond that, the bridge was entirely unique. She had holographic control panels floating above the smaller LCARS interfaces. A TIHS system similar to the one that he'd seen on the Hades and a slightly concave main viewer flanked by a pair of holographic generators. The bridge was large and sleek. The consoles glowed with a slight glow and the gleam of new polylaminates and backlighting dominated the bridge resembling the financial districts in Tokyo with their massive neon displays. Susan looked around, taking in the 'feel' of the bridge. The décor here was blue and silver, sleek, business-like and yet beautiful. The carpet, a rich, deep, dark blue, contrasted with the paler colour of the chairs and consoles, yet the whole blended together harmoniously. She ran her hand thoughtfully over the back of the command chair, then looked at her PADD so she could orientate herself as to all the positions. "Nice layout," she commented. "Someone clearly not only put a lot of thought into this but listened to what those of us who have to work on the bridge regularly had to say." The door to the Ready Room - located towards the 'front' of the Bridge - opened, and a man wearing commander pips came out onto the Bridge. "Ah - Captain Rivers, I presume?" he said, approaching Susan and Ahmed. "Captain Iain Macbeth, at your service, ma'am." Susan took the proffered hand and shook it. "Pleased to meet you, Captain," she said. "this is my First Officer, Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid." "A pleasure to meet you, Commander," Macbeth said, offering Salid his hand also. "I had the honour to take the Rose out on her shakedown cruise," he explained to Susan,"and I was awaiting your arrival in order to hand over command officially, as it were. She's a good ship," he added with a smile. "I'm sure she is," Susan said. "She's certainly beautiful." "She is that," Macbeth said. "Would you mind if we did the handover now? I'm due to take out the Pankhurst this afternoon, test her out after her refit." "No, that would be fine," Susan said. "Computer recognise Captain Iain Macbeth, temporary commanding officer, USS Rosenante." [Voicematch confirmed] "Computer," Susan said, "recognise Captain Susan Rivers. relieving officer, USS Rosenante." [Voicematch confirmed] Macbeth nodded. "Transfer all command codes for USS Rosenante to Captain Susan Rivers. Authorisation Macbeth Alpha Beta One, Gamma Three." [Command codes transferred] Susan came to attention, and said formally, "Captain, I relieve you." Macbeth also came to attention and replied, equally formally, "Captain, I stand relieved." Then he grinned and relaxed. "Well, that's done. Best of luck to both of you, you've got a real lady here. But if you'll excuse me, I have to be off. Your Ready Room is available whenever you want it, Captain Rivers. I cleared what little stuff I had there earlier." The former commander of the Rosenante smiled, then left the Bridge. Susan looked at Ahmed. "Well," she said, "We should get you officially 'recognised' too, don't you think?" Ahmed had watched the exchange between the two COs with interest. Someday, when he was a CO of his own ship, he hoped that the transfer was as smooth as this one. "If you don't mind, Captain?" Ahmed asked playfully. "Otherwise I'd bet Commander Josel has a barge that needs a CEO waiting just for me." Susan grinned. "My thoughts exactly, Ahmed." "Computer," Ahmed replied , "recognize Lieutenant Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid, First Officer, USS Rosenante." [Voicematch confirmed] "Computer," Susan said, "transfer First Officer command codes to Lt Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid, authorisation Rivers Alpha One, Beta Two, Omega 13." [First Officer command codes transferred] "Now that makes it official." Ahmed said aloud, "and I can't tell you how pleased I am that you managed to save me from being transferred to only Allah knows where…" For a moment Susan looked at him seriously. "Ahmed," she said, "You and I and all our crew have been through so much together in so short a time. You think I was going to let some jobsworth of a clerk deprive me of my FO? She's probably never been away from a desk in her whole career. She doesn't understand that when you're out there at the sharp end what counts is not length of service but the experience you've been through. And we've been through hell and back, one way and another. You deserve the position, you've earned it. And no desk-clerk is going to take it away from you, not while I have breath in my body." "Well, nonetheless Captain, I do appreciate it. To be honest, I'm not sure that I would have stayed in Starfleet very long after that. I'd much rather be right here, exploring and seeing things no one else has ever seen before. That's why I signed up in the first place, it wasn't to fight in a Civil War. It was this moment right here, to know that I will be going places that no one else has ever been. To be very honest, I couldn't think of a finer bunch of people to share that adventure with Captain, than yourself and our crew." Susan smiled. "Me either, Number One. Me either. Now, shall we continue our tour?" (Reply any, none) (Posted by Daniel and Liz) (Star Fleet Headquarters - Fleet Communications - LT Steven Matrix - 0930) Matrix had been reflecting on his meeting with Lt Commander Scott Emerson. He had hoped Scott would have heard anything about the fate Ensign Alura Rathyn, but at this point no news is good news. She was probably on Bajour, but what was odd, no mention of any posted orders or leave of absence. Scott said that such lack of information was not uncommon during and after battles. Information, even in this age, sometimes takes time to catch up with Fleet. Steve was going through all of the non-restricted information he could trying to learn about Alura and the Paladin. So far, he found only information he had already new. The Paladin was heavily damaged and in orbit around Bajour and likely undergoing repairs. Nothing more specific, but no confirmation about a possible refit or posting the Paladin back to active status. Active status posting about a ship was not uncommon even if the ship was heavily damaged. Many of the fleet ships that fell in battle never lost their "active" status and soon after official word followed with a refit or commission of a new ship of the same name. While Matrix did not have a new assignment, he was obligated to check for any messages. He was hoping to be reassigned to a new ship. Surely someone would find a post for a former CEO of a front line ship and a major space station. "Computer, any messages for me." asked Matrix. [Three new messages are awaiting your review.] "Computer display messages." ordered Matrix. A few seconds passed and the computer displayed the official starfleet Insignia and a summary of each message. ~Hmmm.~ Matrix tapped the second message. ~Ah. Mom.~ For a few moments Matrix read through a message from his parents still living on Earth. The message detailed that they were okay, but the war had reached them out in Colorado. There were areas that had visible scars of the war, but they had kept to themselves, but were okay and supplies were reaching their city. Dad always kept spares and a couple of extra energy packs and two additional replicators had kept them supplied with anything they needed. The message was posted 3 days ago. He tapped in a reply with his situation and indicated he would visit as soon as he could. He was sure he would have time for a visit if not a lengthy stay. Family would be welcome. The first message was from Commander Emerson saying he was traveling back to Bajour within the week and would report any information about the Paladin and Alura as soon as he could. Matrix smiled. ~Thanks old friend.~ The third message looked official. A few moments went by and the official starfleet insignia appeared. ~Lieutenant Matrix. You are hear by ordered stay within 3 day's travel of Earth for a future assignment. By order of Admiral Hesper Linden.~ Matrix smiled. ~Excellent. That could only mean one thing...a new assignment!~ Matrix logged off the computer terminal and made his way back to his assigned quarters after a late breakfast. He would pack and find any transportation out to Colorado for a visit with his parents. (Posted by Steve) (USS Hypatia, Docking Bay – Acting Second Officer/Acting Tactical Chief & Security Chief, Lt. Jono Janeway – 1003) Jono rubbed his eyes as he set the shuttle into an auto-docking sequence as he brought the shuttle through the doors of the ship he was beginning to think of as home. He looked at the activity which was buzzing throughout the docking bay and wondered why and what was happening. He was just getting back from the second half of his leave, he had requested to spend the New Year celebrations with his family considering his brothers death enall. He had found out on his return trip that his mother had resigned her commission as Captain, she also maybe selfishly asked him to resign on New Years Eve, and he took it as a joke and told her he wasn’t going to abandon his dream job. He wasn’t going to leave all his friends behind and sit behind some desk pushing pens. He stood up from behind the seat as the shuttle stopped moving, he disengaged all the controls and quickly pulled his carry bag over his back and brushed his hair with his hands. The bruises and contortions from the beating he had taken months earlier and finally subsided. He had returned to the Hypatia only a few days after receiving that brutal beating, he had been the talk of many and he had only discussed what had happened with close friends. The seals on the door quickly broke and the outside light revealed itself to the young black haired Lieutenant. One year in Starfleet already a hardened battle veteran, he had seen things he hadn’t imagined he would a year ago, so much had happened, so much death and destruction. Every ship he had served upon in his career, bar the Hypatia had been destroyed in the battle for MDP. Infact the USS Hypatia had been one of his longest running assignments since joining Starfleet, his career had been one short path to success thanks to the civil war, although there had been many tragedies. He entered the USS Nimitz under command of Devon Sash as an Ensign JG, assisting Dru Tagon operating the security and tactical departments of the fine sovereign class ship. Tagon had become promoted and Jono was given the chance to prove himself as the Acting Chief, this went on for maybe a month or more before his friend Wolfe was promoted to Captain of the USS Champlain and took Jono with him. All together he served with the Nimitz crew through about four missions. The Champlain was a fresh start; he acquired a promotion to LieutenantSG from LieutenantJG and became chief of the galaxy classes security and tactical departments. Under the command of Captain Wolfe he gained no other promotions as the galaxy class went from one failed mission to another rather exciting but brutalising mission which would once again end in tragic death or horrible circumstances for an ‘Explorer’ class. Once Wolfe died he spent weeks training with a new department with new staff and a new captain. He was promoted to the Third Officer and took his new responsibilities with great pride and joy, trying to fulfil the roll as much as he possibly could. The first mission under the command of Captain Rivers was definitely one of the most life threatening situations Janeway would ever be in. Full out warfare on the MDP, before Starfleet assignment he had spent time working on the MDP with work experience, he had helped design part of it and had specialised in MDP at EDTP academy before joining Starfleet. He was one of the people in the briefing room who fully understood the task at hand when Admiral Sevant briefed them all. So of to battle they went, in their galaxy class vessel leading one of the groups within the task force. After a long and bloody battle, the Champlain and the Nimitz were destroyed and with them all Jono had to show for the year’s previous work. Making sure the Captain made it of the Champlain alive he was the last one to make it off the ship alive, almost like his assignment to that ship had come a full circle – he was one of the first on the ship, with Wolfe and Dezlar, both who were either dead or incapacitated and then he was the last off. Perfect symmetry. And then there was the now. The war was over. His brother was dead. His assignment was currently pending release and he was still serving onboard the ship which saved the Champlain’s crew from utter destruction. All in all life couldn’t get much worse than the loss of his brother; he smiled and stepped down the ramp. ~What is my title now-a-days?~ He took a deep breath and then said, “Acting Second Officer, Acting Tactical Chief & Security Chief, Lt. Jono Janeway, serial number…” it went on “…asking permission to come onboard?” The Ensign in yellow stood in front of him, she was almost smirking at Jono’s official ‘long’ title that he had been blessed with for the moment until he was reassigned somewhere, probably a job on Earth knowing his luck. Away from the adventure and the travel that always kept the job interesting. “Permission granted… Lieutenant. Welcome back, Sir.” Jono nodded to the blonde haired Ensign, “Thank-you. At ease. Walk with me a moment, Ensign Chale.” He said knowing he could trust the security Ensign to do what he asked. She nodded, “What is it you need, Sir?” Jono began moving towards the door, “I need you to contact a few people for me. Find out what happened to a few people I haven’t managed to find as of yet. Here is a list of the names and what I need them to do over the next couple of shift assignments.” “But Sir, surely this is an assistant’s job?” Jono stopped still in the corridor, “Why yes it is, Ensign Chale. Do you have any problem with that?” She smiled at him for a moment, “No, Sir. Ensign Moto deserves some slack in the work force; I’ll see what I can do.” “Thank-you, Ensign. That’ll be all.” He said nodding. She walked away and he resumed walking towards the turbolift, “Computer where is Captain Rivers?” [Captain Susan Rivers is not currently on-board] ~Ahhh~ he thought, he was going to let Susan know he was back and ready to come back on-duty. He had discussed the incident down on Earth with her a while back as well as with Ahmed and other friends. “Fine. Computer locate Lieutenant Commander Salid” [Lieutenant Commander Ahmed Ibn Salid is not currently on-board] “Well I’ll be” He said to himself. “Computer locate and name the highest ranking officer on-board at the moment” [Lieutenant Jonathan Janeway, Turbolift 4a. Is the highest ranking officer with the rank of Lieutenant and position of Acting Second Officer onboard at the present time] He smiled slightly, “Well I’m glad someone advised me of the situation. Well Jono looks like I’m reporting into myself.” He said out loud. “Deck 2” He said as the Turbolift doors began to close. He quickly began to wonder where both the Captain & the First Officer were and whether they were together in doing what ever they were doing. The doors to the Turbolift opened up gradually and he stepped out onto the corridor. =^=Ensign Yjong to Lieutenant Janeway=^= ~Ensign Who from what department?~ Jono thought as he entered his ‘temporary’ quarters. He tapped his comm. Badge, “Janeway here, what is it?” =^=Sir, there is a dispute in the mess hall whether the spaghetti should be served with the toast or not? The computer advised us to bring any disputes we had directly to the most senior officer on the ship. That would be you, Sir.=^= ~You have to be kidding me? Susan surely doesn’t deal with stuff like this~ He sighed before answering, “Are you joking, Ensign?” =^=Er.. No, Sir. We are following the computers protocol=^= Jono put his hand to his head after sitting down on his bed and then shook it, “Yes, serve it with toast then. Unless the customer doesn’t like toast, give an option. Janeway out.” He was about to tap his comm. badge when. =^=But, Sir. That is not all...=^= ~Lovely~ “What else can I do for you, Ensign?” he said in the politest voice he could muster. =^=Well, Sir. It’s just the computer told us it was protocol to ask you this question also, as it wouldn’t be able to answer it accurately.=^= “Go ahead” =^=As we are now serving toast with the spaghetti, should we serve brown or white toast?=^= ~You have to be bloody kidding me~ “Both, Ensign. Once again give the customer the option. Janeway OUT.” He tapped his comm. Badge before she could say any more and then he slumped out on his bed. “Computer, display time.” [The time is: 10.23am] “Why are they serving spaghetti this early in the morning for god’s sake?” He asked himself and shook his head. [Message for Lieutenant Janeway, Acting Second Officer, Acting Tactical Chief & Security chief, onboard the USS Hypatia.] “This best not be some one enquiring about spaghetti deliveries or I’ll go mad.” He said to himself as he walked across the room to the computer at the far side. He opened the envelope and the official Starfleet symbol was twirling on the screen. He clicked open and the face of some woman popped up. [“Lt. Janeway, you have been reassigned to the USS Rosenante. Effective immediately. You are to report into Captain Rivers. The Captain wishes me to tell you that there will be a senior crew meeting onboard the USS Rosenante in the observation lounge on deck 8 at 1700 hours prompt. Today. Details of your assignment are listed below, you will take up the position you currently hold under Captain Rivers on her new command. Commander Josel out.”] Jono smiled. “USS Rosenante, sounds sexy. This could be fun.” He said. It didn’t take him long to find where the ‘Rose’ as he had now nicknamed her was docked. He had been right, she was sleek, slender and of the tactical/security programs he had been able to see he was extremely happy. “Looks like I’ve got a new ship to look around and a meeting to get to... If I don’t get lost. Computer notify the next highest ranking member of staff that they are in charge until either myself or the Captain/First officer returns.” With that he stepped out of the room and the door closed behind him. (Posted by Jono) (USS Hypatia - Quarters – ACMO Lt. (jg) Nissa Whetari- 1138) “I know, Angus, I’m not happy about having to move all our stuff again, either…” With another tug, Nissa attempted to pull the Aldean wool blanket that her slahri gave her on her recent visit away from her dog. “You enjoyed our stay on Aldea, Angus, but having to change quarters comes with the ‘seeing new places’ territory. Give it here.” Nissa always hoped that reasoning with Angus would work – she didn’t expect that he understood what she was saying, but perhaps her soothing voice would make him comfortable enough to get off the blanket. Alas, it was not to be. Angus clearly thought that Nissa wanted to play, since he stuck his rear in the air with his tail wagging and a good chunk of the object in his mouth. After a few more tugs, Nissa stood up and walked over to her duffle, now packed with her few possessions, all picked up on Aldea and Earth. She had stopped by a little shop in New York that baked (really baked, not replicated!) dog biscuits. She was only able to bring a few with her, but this was a very serious situation. “Angus, look what I have,” With an expression of mock surprise, Nissa waved the treat in the air in front of her. Her brindle mutt forgot all about the blanket and eagerly traipsed over for his treat, jumping a couple times in excitement. “Sit…sit. That’s a good boy, Angus.” Giving him his treat, Nissa hurried over and snatched the blanket up, packing it in the duffle and zipping it up. Everything that she needed for however long she would remain on the Hypatia was in her quarters, but she wanted to be packed and ready after having received her new orders. “Well, one can never know what the future will bring.” Nissa said to herself, patting Angus on the head and picking up one of her many PADDs.
