Stardate: ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (USS Billabong - Fleet Admirals Office - Commander Richard Ian Lee -, 0900) Rich folded his hands together, while he waited for Fleet Admiral Alaya to read through his file. Since the Paladin had arrived, it had been one high level meeting after another, debriefings by Science personnel, Tactical personnel over the Dominion War and Federation Technology of the time. Engineering personnel over the same thing, while Starfleet scientists looked into every nook and cranny of what had been his ship. They had seemed most interested in his history, the Dominion War had never happened in this timeline. There had been three years of relative peace during that time, the Dominion had never made a run against Betazed, Earth had never been attacked by the Breen. Millions were still living in this timeline, that would have been dead in his. He was a veteran of that war, a war that had never happened. He had the scars to prove it. In an absurd way, it was almost disappointing. This Federation had been through fire, but not to the point His had. They had not come within months of complete governmental breakdown, complete submission of resources and people to the Founders and their hated Jem Hadar. The Cardassians were still causing problems here, but they were being contained. He mentally shook his head at the thought, this universe wasn't peaceful, but it hadn't been torn apart either. He hoped Starfleet command had taken the lesson he had told them well, because it could happen here as well. After several minutes of silence, the Fleet Admiral Alaya laid the PADD down on the desk, and folded her hands together. "A very impressive record, Commander." "Thank you, Sir." he responded. This was becoming a script, next would come more questions and more prying into the universe that was his rightful home. Most of the Paladin's database had been erased in the switch over, whatever shielding the Alter-Paladin had when *she* had crossed over hadn't extended to his Paladin. A good half her crew had died in transition, and... well, he had taken his next breath in the morgue when he should have been dead by all rights, HAD been dead in fact. So, the whole crew had been interrogated, and the command staff had spent the most time answering questions. Practically everything he had ever known about Starfleet and the Federation was known to these people now. The Admiral nodded, and sat back in her chair. "And, you have some very impressive skills. Advanced War College, in a Starfleet that had been bathed in fire. Structural Engineering, Anti-Terror and Security/Tactical training. A strong suit of skills, for one your age." Rich nodded briefly. ~They grow em big and young back on the farm, lady~ She interlaced her fingers. "According to this report, you oversaw the structural refits of several vessels after the 'Dominion War", from tactical to peacetime settings. Including vessels that had seen heavy combat damage?" ~She is so blase, like she is speaking of a horribly written book~ "Yes Sir, I specialized in Sovereign and Akira class attack vessels. I was in charge of several retro refits, including heavily damaged ships from the front line near Bajor, Betazed and the Vulcanis System." She gave a half smile and a twitch, that rapidly dissolved back to the professional rock that she had assumed up to this time. Lee almost grinned, apparently she didn't like the idea that Any Starfleet would let enemy attack craft so close to Earth, that they would allow them to take and hold such a large percentage of Federation territory. ~Tough lady, Hundreds of Millions died to keep our sovereignty, and by GOD we kept it!~ She took a breath, then asked a question that he had not yet heard before. "Do you wish to keep a commission in the fleet. We have scientists working on the temporal problem, but to be honest, we might never find a way back to your home universe." There it was, strait up. Lee sat back, and let his eyes unfocus for several moments as he thought furiously. He took a breath, then said, "Yes, Admiral. I would rather be doing something I am good at, then sitting idle while some Scientists decide this will be our home anyway. Most of my crew has already been reassigned, I might as well." She blinked, then said "Good, then we will start with something you are sure to be able to handle." She reached into her desk, pulled out a PADD and gently pushed it across to him. "There is a problem sector, that is causing my fleet several problems. Squadron Commander Admiral Eileen Greeley has sent me this information, lets just say it requires a bit of secrecy and I would prefer to send an unknown yet knowledgeable officer to oversee her refit. I don't want Romulan Intelligence getting wind of my more established crews showing up at Starbase Geneva, you are an unknown variable to them." Rich raised an eyebrow, then picked up the PADD. It was marked Top Secret, and it contained transfer orders for crew and supplies to Geneva to repair a ship known as the Nimitz. He started to scroll, then reached the history of the ship and her operational status. "She has been crawling at low warp for five months?" he asked, incredulous. "I give her Chief Engineer kudo's..." he trailed off as he read the Captains report on what had happened. ~Heavy battle, heavy casualties. Lots of damage and the ship in need of serious refit and repair.~ He scrolled down a little further and kept reading, as the Admiral was remaining silent. He reached the list of crew that survived, and nearly choked as he paused, and scrolled back up. "Captain Susan Rivers, Lieutenant Caladryll Sevant and... First Lieutenant Richard Ian Lee?" He looked up, "My double is on that ship?" She gave a humorless grin. "That is the only factor that hasn't had you assigned there ASAP. We wanted to know if it would be a problem, working with your temporal counterpart." She leaned back, "His life has split with yours, he is a First Lieutenant in the Starfleet Marines, after a highly successful stint as a Security Chief at Starbase 23. An accident changed his vocation. You might not have to see him at all, he is going to stand charges for murder, even I don't know how that will end up." She considered for a moment, "You know a Susan Rivers and Caladryll Sevant in your universe?" Rich nodded vaguely as he continued to read. "Rear Admiral Rivers commanded our squadron, and was killed in the Dominion War. Lieutenant Commander Sevant was the head of Strategic Operations in my operations sector, he was personal Attaché to our fleets Deep sector tactical operations group." Lee referred to Omega Squadron, 14 ships that were designed for deep enemy territory incursion. They weren't suicidal, but they might as well have been, the survival rate for that particular squadron was practically zero. Rich considered for a moment, then nodded his head. "I can handle the double, and the other crew I knew vaguely in life. I didn't know Rivers or Sevant any better then by name and occasional acquaintance. I was only a security chief at the time, I wasn't high enough in the command structure to have any other contact with them." "Very well, Commander. A group of replacement crew is due to leave the Billabong in three hours, you will go with them. and you will be on Starbase Geneva inside a week. If all goes well, you will travel with the Nimitz to relearn command style here, and to make sure the refit went as planned." Rich nodded, he didn't expect he would be given a commission without being tested first. He was, after all, fresh out of a war torn universe. He stood up and came to attention, "Very well, Admiral. Unless there is anything else?" The Fleet Admiral waved her hand, "Dismissed." In respect to what have occurred and the fact that the CO's quarters is in the center of the readings, I would like to search his quarters to see if we can find the source." Walker nodded briskly, "Permission granted. Ensign Wilson has also crossed a likely path that ended here." "The CONN, Ensign Wilson?" Actun wondered how the CONN could get to the same conclusion as he had. "Where is he?" Walker took a look around him, then frowned and looked back at the CO's door. "Most likely already inside." he said, with a deep, unhappy tone. "Well, let's get inside, we can wait there." Actun said. Walker uncrossed his arms and walked in behind the Commander. Sure enough, the Conn officer was standing inside. "Sir, I am just about to begin scans of the area to determine the origins of a signal in this room. If you do not have any objections I will begin to scan the room?" the CONN asked. "First I would like to know what you're doing in here. Didn't you ask Lieutenant Isengard to meet you here?" Actun asked with a raised eyebrow. "Sir do you mind me doing these scans it was under the order of Lieutenant Arianna, if you want we can contact her and I can be reassigned if there is a problem?" Isengard raised an eyebrow, and took a breath as the Commander said, "Lieutenant, perhaps it would be better if you determine who will do what since, despite my rank, the SFI don't really have any authority here since this is still an internal Geneva investigation. That's why I asked you to come here in the first place." Isengard's eyes darted to the two of them, "Start your scans, Ensign Wilson. Actun noted the fact that the TAC/CS was cool and professional, the irritation he showed with du Pounte not in evidence. Actun was not unfamiliar with the concept of personal chemistry, he just couldn't figure out how it worked. Maybe they just didn't mix well together. Actun turned towards the CONN. "Very well Ensign, it seems to me that you have prepared some equipment, can you explain to us what you have done?" Actun indicated the CSO as well. (Reply Wilson, Lee) When the explanations were done, Wilson finally got a chance to use his scanner. Actun pulled out his own tricorder as well. Despite some downloaded SFI enhancements, there wasn't much to see. He shut it down and started a visual scan instead. "What are we looking for?" Someone asked. "Anything out of the ordinary. Be observant of your own reactions, if something in this room caused the CO to go mad, the same thing may happen to you as well." Actun replied, studying an ornamented box he has found on a shelf. John moved around the room looking at both his tricorder and the direction he was heading. John watched as Kurtz walked into the Cmdr’s bedroom, John began to follow him and then piped up. “Kurtz watch yourself, keep a eye out as commander Actun said if the CO was effected by this then WATCH YOURSELF.” John stated the last bit very strongly. “Don’t worry Ensign ill keep a eye out,” Kurtz said to Wilson. Kurtz began to walk over to the CO’s closet John moved in closer his tricorder was tracking the signal down to somewhere in that direction. John began to become concerned. “Kurtz the signal is coming from that direction HOLD, STAY WHERE YOU ARE.” John yelled the last bit. Kurtz continued to walk towards the closet like he was mesmerised he was being drawn to that closet. “Commander Actun, Commander...” John spoke in a raised tone. John was then cut off when Kurtz opened up the closet and pulled out a disruptor and pointed John’s direction. John noticed a glowing purple sphere behind Kurtz but his attention was drawn away as Kurtz fired at John. John dived to the ground but caught a bit of the beam on his right shoulder it sliced right through his uniform and John bit his lip to control the pain. Kurtz pointed the disruptor at the door way into the main part of the room. The tricorder Blew up and Kurtz swayed John ran towards him and kicked the disrupter out of his hand it flew off to the side. Kurtz flew round with a punch that struck Johns cheek, John’s arm then blocked Kurtz’s next punch and threw him to the floor. John threw himself forward and shut the closet, John then lay on the floor and yelled out. “Come in Kurtz had been took care off, its safe we have got the sphere.” John spoke and bit down on his lip to deal with the sharp pain in his right arm and shoulder.
