Stardate: 2406.11.11 (USS Spectre – Warren’s Quarters – ACMO Bently – 0400) The computer started beeping its wake up call, Warren rolled out of bed and got himself ready for the day. He took his time poking around and was out of his quarters and on his way to sickbay forty-five minutes later. (posted by Paul) (USS Spectre – Sickbay – ACMO Bently – 0445) Warren didn’t have lots of work to do today, he had two more physicals to get down then he was free for the rest of the day. Warren sat down at his desk and went over the paperwork for the two crewmen he needed to see. ~This should be easy, just a quick check up and I’ll have them back on their way.~ Warren’s first appointment wasn’t till 0600h so he left sickbay and headed towards 10 – Forward for a cup of coffee. (posted by Paul) (USS Spectre – 10 Forward – ACMO Bently – 0520) Warren grabbed a cup of coffee from the replicator and sat down at an empty table. Now he just had to find a way to kill another half an hour. (Reply Any) (posted by Paul) (USS Spectre – CSO’s Office- Acting CSO Ronsworth-0900) Ronsworth packed his bags and stood at the door. He thought about the conference on Geneva. He was glad that the captain had let him go, Garry was ready for a good lecture on transwarp and the latest on scientific breakthroughs. He turned to the door and disembarked. (Reply none) (Posted by Bobby Pirie) (USS Spectre, Cloaking Device Engineering Section – CPO M’Rurrh – 0927) “Ok then. Let’s get this shutdown on the road!” "Acknowledged, preparing shutdown of cloaking device." The young ensign walked over to another console and began entering the shutdown sequence. All the while, M’Rurrh watched, observing the newcomer and trying to figure how best to weave him into the tapestry of the engineering department. "Shutdown initialized. Shutdown in five, four, three, two, one. Shutdown complete." "Well then shall we begin the manual restart?" She winked and purred back at him, “Ready when you are.” "Alright, beginning manual restart. Let’s hope this works." ~It’d better do.~ (posted by Michael) (USS Spectre, Bridge, FO, LtCmdr Shane Schofield, 0955) "All decks, all departments, this is the Captain, prepare your stations for departure. Engineering, ready impulse power.", said Remae and he looked over at the First Officer and nodded, clearly telling him to take the ship out and organize the departments as needed. Impulse power pushed the ship out of her dock and slowly through the vast shipyards of the Spacedock, out of the hangar and into open space without incident and a few moments later the Spectre was clear of the immediate traffic around the Starbase. "Full impulse, heading 275 Mark 15, take us .2 light years and hold position.", he ordered Ensign Banowsky and as the course was entered he turned to Commander Orde and Commander Schofield. "Commanders, as soon as you are ready, prepare Mr. Banowsky for the simulated battle, we'll launch his runabout as soon as we reach our destination. I'll leave the details in your hands." "Yes sir," Shane said and left the bridge. (posted by Andrew) (USS Spectre, Cloaking Device Engineering Section – CPO M’Rurrh – 0956) “Go ahead, Charlie.” "The name is Grant Archie. Anyways, I'm preparing a stream of power to be transferred into the cloaking device. This is a similar to a process used on vehicles in the 21st century where they would jump start the battery of a vehicle." “Is that so? I had no idea humans had always been so inventive.” A blue shadow loomed into M’Rurrh’s peripheral vision and she heard the human start. "Didn't see you their sir." The Andorian’s gruff voice shot out across the room, “Don’t let me stop you, Ensign. Carry on with your ‘jump start’.” "Preparing to initialize power transfer in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...initialized." Grant pressed a button on his console and then began monitoring the process. "Can someone give me a status report on the process." The Caitian’s ears pricked up as she heard the Chief Engineer whisper “It worked.” Her hands a blur over the controls, she quickly reached the same conclusion and started to relay this only to have the Andorian cut her off in mid-sentence. He was heading back up the ladder to the main engineering deck, and was clearly not paying any attention to the team around her. “I’ll report to the captain. I want a full set of diagnostics on both the cloak and the impulse drive before we consider this one a success.” “I’ll take the impulse engines. I want you to stay down here and run the diagnostic on the cloaking device, boy genius.” Flashing her canines, M’Rurrh shimmied her way up the ladder. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Cloaking Device Engineering Section – Ensign H’Chir - 0957) H’Chir set both feet on the deckplate of Deck 13 and kept quiet, wanting to observe the actions of his crew – including their newest recruit. "The name is Grant Archie. Anyways, I'm preparing a stream of power to be transferred into the cloaking device. This is a similar to a process used on vehicles in the 21st century where they would jump start the battery of a vehicle." He scowled at that. ~Why do humans always forget that the rest of the universe developed outside their timeframe? Try this technique on 21st Andorian vehicles and you’d get a face full of radioactive dust for your trouble! One of these days I ought to…~ "Didn't see you there sir." “Don’t let me stop you, Ensign. Carry on with your ‘jump start’.” The buzz of activity recommenced in front of him, and H’Chir made a point of watching the young ensign’s composure as the team busied themselves with channeling power from another part of the ship into the errant cloak. A moment or two later, the Andorian half-heard the human ask for a status report, but his mind was elsewhere. Tingling at the very edge of his senses, H’Chir could feel the change. He gave a rare smile and said, “It worked,” before the universe caught up with him again. ~I shouldn’t have known that.~ Ignoring the team as they began celebrating, H’Chir turned back to the ladder up to the main deck, calling behind him, “I’ll report to the captain. I want a full set of diagnostics on both the cloak and the impulse drive before we consider this one a success.” (posted by Michael) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 10.04) The ship was on her way and clear of the Starbase, the crew were attending to their duties. "Hello Captain, I believe this is where you expected me to be, at least at some points during our missions?", said the Counsellor. Remae nodded and the Officer took the chair to the Captain's left. Together they watched the crew in action and after a moment or two; Lronen leaned over so that only the Captain could hear what he had to say. "For the most part, they are very calm and professional. You have a good crew. They trust you, some of the newer members have a bit of fear tinged with their excitement, but that would be normal. I'd say you have a few daredevils which should probably be watched, perhaps a few that a nice quiet duty on a listening post would suit better.", he said, in conclusion. The CO smiled at that last statement and leant away from the Counsellor without further comment. Having him on the Bridge was going to make this mission a lot easier; the briefing supplied the Captain with orders, recommendations and the need for a Counsellor. Often, it was a misconstrued fact that Counsellors served on all ships, it wasn't true, sometimes, the nature of the mission didn't always necessitate one. (posted by Anthony) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CMO, Williams 1010) Andrew entered the bridge. He noticed that Banowsky was not at his station. ~Must have started~ He crossed over to the Captain's chair. "Captain I was wondering if I could have a word about this up coming battle with Ensign Banowsky." (reply Remae) Andrew hesitated for a moment. "Well I had an idea for getting him sir." ~He is going to laugh me off the bridge "Well sir I know it's a bit unorthodox but I was thinking that you could launch one of the type 7 shuttles and send it off towards Phoenix. Make it send out a priority one distress signal. If it appears real enough then Ensign Banowsky the good Starfleet officer that he is should come running to help. Then when he appears you could de cloak and blast him out of the water as the saying goes." "That's not exactly the Starfleet way, Doctor.", said Remae thinking about the idea for a moment, "However, I appreciate you thinking outside the square and I will keep it in mind.", said the Captain. (posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Launch Bay, FO, LtCmdr Shane Schofield, 1015) Shane and Commander Orde met with Ensign Banowsky. "Ensign, I think our Captain has more than a little pride in the Spectre. Because of this I think you might be able to use that pride against him in this mock battle. He will expect you to run and hide for as long as you can before the Spectre eventually finds you. My suggestion would be for you to go on the offensive. If I were in your position I would have a look at the sensor frequencies of the Spectre before I launched and devise a way to have them look elsewhere while I launched my attack from the opposite direction." Shane smiled. "Commander Orde, your thoughts?" (Reply from Any) (Posted by Andrew Brannigan) (USS Spectre: Launch Bay - TAC/SC/2O Pierce Orde - 1015) "Commander Orde, your thoughts?" Pierce smirked. He hated giving his opponent good advice, but it only seemed fair in this case. "There's an asteroid field nearby with heavy concentrations of kelbonite floating about in there," he told the ensign. "If you can fly the shuttle visually, you won't be affected but it will be difficult for the Spectre to lock onto you. I might also suggest being very, very sneaky. If you do go on the offensive, you are well-suited to a hit-and-run. Depending on how good your knowledge of the ship is and your piloting skills, you might find a sensor dead spot or two that Starfleet hasn't eliminated yet. Do you have any questions, Ensign?" "Valuable advice," Will said with a pause. "I agree with you Commander Schofield. I have pride in the Evangeline, the runnabout I will be piloting. But unlike the Captain I wont let it be my bane. I was planning on fighting back. I don't want anything to happen to the Evangeline. But I will have some tactics to try out on the Spectre. As for the asteroid field Commander Orde, I don't know if I will use it. I already have a battle plan forming in my head, and I would hate to spoil it." Will paused as he ran through his attack plan in his head and then looked at the commanders. "One more quick question. Will the Spectre be using its cloaking device. That could be benificial to how I devise my strategy." Will said after Commnader Orde had given his thoughts. We wouldn’t want to give you all the answers; that would be cheating. Is that all?” "Yes sir, that is all. Oh, can you also inform the captain, that I wont be returning to the bridge until I'm done with preparations on the Evangeline." Will then turned around and exited the room. He had a plan. A good one, at least he thought it would be. Of course it required going to all the shuttles and rigging them so they all give of the impression that they are the Evangeline. He also needed to go about with his plan of attack. He was a small ship, but if he could attack quickly, he may have a chance. (reply none) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre, Launch Bay, FO, LtCmdr Shane Schofield, 1020) "One more quick question. Will the Spectre be using its cloaking device. That could be beneficial to how I devise my strategy." Will said after Commander Orde had given his thoughts. "Most definitely. If it were me I would enter the system under full cloak and try to sniff you out before you were in a position to attack, so I must assume that the Captain would be of a similar mind. It is also my intention to be the umpire for this exercise so I will be giving unbiased information to both sides before the simulation commences. Once begun I will be completely neutral and will NOT assist either side. Good luck Ensign. I look forward to seeing you in action!" Shane shook hands with the young Ensign and headed back to the bridge. (Reply from Banowsky, Any) (Posted by Andrew Brannigan) (USS Spectre, Bridge – Ensign H’Chir – 1024) H’Chir stepped onto the bridge with vague air of apprehension normally seen in someone entering alien territory. Fortunately, his report to the captain did not afford him the luxury of nervous exploration. “Happy to report the cloaking device appears to be back in operation.” It didn’t take a genius to see the captain react to that ‘appears to be’, and H’Chir quickly followed on by saying, “I’ve got a team running a full diagnostic, just to be sure, but I’m confident we’ve tamed it, sir.” (posted by Michael) (USS Spectre, Sickbay – Ensign H’Chir – 1107) The doors swooshed open with annoying predictability and gave H’Chir entrance to the ship’s medical facility. Barely one step inside the room the Andorian stopped, suddenly realising he wasn’t sure why he was there at all. Not sure what to do, or where to be, waves of embarrassment and relief flooded through him when he was approached by someone in a medical uniform. “I… errr… I guess I need to see a doctor. Privately.” The officer smiled the kind of patient, understanding smile H’Chir associated with doctor’s the universe over. The kind that made H’Chir want to throw them through a wall. ~They must teach them to smile like that in med-school.~ (posted by Michael) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - CMO - Williams - 1109) "I. errr. I guess I need to see a doctor. Privately." Andrew smiled at the Andorian. "No problem. If you would come with me we can go into my office." He ushered H'Chir into his office and motioned him to sit as he sat in his chair behind his desk and face him. "So what can I help you with Ensign?" (reply H'Chir) (reply H'Chir) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre, CMO’s Office – Ensign H’Chir – 1110) “So what can I help you with, Ensign?” The human doctor was tall, almost as tall as H’Chir, and he continued to smile as the engineer took a seat. Scowling deeply, the Andorian fidgeted nervously as he explained his situation to the doctor. “I don’t know how much you know about our antennae. They’re not ears. Most people think they’re for picking up sound, but they’re… sensitive… To electro-magnetic fields. Proximity to power sources, force fields, sometimes even strong emotions in others, but… Ever since we got back from the Mystique they’ve been too sensitive. I can sense when doors are about to open. Every tiny detail screams at me. It makes no sense!” Taking deep, angry breaths the engineer looked directly at the doctor. His confession on the table, it was time to hear the diagnosis. (Reply Williams, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, CMO's Office - CMO - Williams - 1113) "I don't know how much you know about our antennae. They're not ears. Ever since we got back from the Mystique they've been too sensitive. I can sense when doors are about to open. Every tiny detail screams at me. It makes no sense!" Andrew thought for a moment. He tried to remember what his tutors on alien medicine had said about Andorians. ~Great my knowledge on Andorian physiology is not wonderful but I can't tell him that~ "I did not know that about your antennae. Lets do some scans and see what they show." He stood up and ushered H'Chir out of his office and over to a bio-bed. He activated the scanners and waited for them to perform their cycle. He stood digesting the information that appeared. "okay Mr. H'Chir it looks like from these scan results like your problem is due to an imbalance in you Serotonin levels which is causing your problem." (reply H'Chir) He though for a moment before answering. "There is nothing to worry about. A simple cause of medication should be sufficient to balance out your levels." he picked up a hypospray and injected H'Chir with it. "That’s a start. Take this twice a day once in the morning when you wake up and once in the evening before you go to sleep. You should feel the effects lessen in a couple of days but if you have any problems come back to me at once." (reply H'Chir) (Reply H'Chir, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre-Shuttle Bay 1-Ensign Will Banowsky-11.20) Will had just gotten out of one of the Spectre's support craft. He had remembered something told to him by Lt. Commander Schofield, about sending false sensor readings to the Spectre. Will thought that was a genius idea, and decided he would actually use it. So after the meeting he personally visited the ships support crafts. He had finally exited the last one, a type 7 shuttle, the USS El Cid. The reason he had visited the support crafts was simple. He had rigged every single craft aboard the Spectre to give of the same sensor readings as the Evangiline. So, when the Spectre scanned for the Evangiline, they would find numerous "Evangelines". This extra confusion would allow him to sneak up easier on the Spectre. Will had finally finished all of his "modifications". He couldn't wait until the actual tactical test. He wanted to impress the captain, as well as test the full capabilities of the Spectre and Evangeline. Most importantly he viewed this as a test for himself. ~This is going to be fun.~ Will then exited the shuttlebay and headed for the bridge. (reply none) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 12.00) A few hours at impulse and the Spectre was in the middle of nowhere but close enough to the 52nd's area of operations but clear of traffic. "Mr Banowsky, man your ship.", said Remae as he nodded to the CONN/OPS officer. A few moments later, he had left the Bridge and someone else had taken the station, as soon as the Ensign was clear, the fun and games would begin. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 12.15) "Permission granted.", ordered Remae as the auxiliary craft asked for permission to leave the Spectre. "Mr Orde, Red Alert. Lower phaser yield to 1% and replace photon launcher guidance systems with the modified laser." Even at such a low setting, the phasers would still shake up the shuttle craft that Banowsky would be piloting, the lasers would be tracked by computer and any damage, to either ship, would be recorded by the computer on both vessels and systems would be shutdown. The craft appeared in front of the view screen and came to a stop. "Open a channel.", ordered the CO and the view screen blinked with the face of the Ensign. "What do you say, Ensign? Count to 100 shall I?", said the CO with a smile on his face. (Reply from Banowsky and room for more) "Good hunting.", said the CO as the channel closed, "Shutdown sensors, view screen and all tracking equipment and start the clock." The view screen went dark and the number '100' appeared and began to count backwards, slowly. The entire Bridge was silent, no computer sounds, no one doing their duty. just waiting for the clock to reach zero. 5.4.3.2.1 "He we come, ready or not. active sensors, full scan.", said Remae as systems came back online, "Report?" Remae waited for an answer, if that shuttle had gone to warp, it could be a long way away, but that was the nature of the game. the chase was on! (Reply from Banowsky, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Evangeline-Command Compartment-Ensign Will Banowsky - 12.15) Will had been given permission to leave the Spectre. One thing was for sure he was excited, excited as little kid at Christmas time. He was going to be a rabbit to the Spectre's hound. He was going to pilot the Evangeline in a mock combat situation and he was excited. He knew it was going to be fun, he knew he was going to have a good time, and he knew he was going to give Captain Remae his money's worth. The craft appeared in front of the view screen and came to a stop. "What do you say, Ensign? Count to 100 shall I?", said the CO with a smile on his face. "Sounds fair to me sir. Just like a good old game of hide and seek. However, unlike the children's game sir I will be fighting back, to an extent. I don't want to go down without a fight." Will replied with a smile on his face. He was going to have a good time. "Good hunting.", said the CO as the channel closed, "Shutdown sensors, view screen and all tracking equipment and start the clock." As soon as the transmission ended, Will turned the shuttle around so that it was facing forward. He was going to run all over the place. In fact, he was kind of afraid that the Spectre would never find him. That he would be lost in space for the rest of his life. Will made sure he had the course for Geneva listed in the navigation charts of the Evangeline so that if he did get lost he could travel there. Finally he put up a countdown on his own screen and readied himself. "Plotting course north of the Spectre's current location, all systems and full power, finally, activating Warp 3," he said as he pressed some buttons on the console and entered warp speed. "Let's see I'll maintain warp for the count of 100, then I'll drop out of warp, and change course. and head southwest, and hopefully, if I can find the Spectre I can sneak up behind her and flank her." As soon as the countdown reached zero Will dropped out of warp. He didn't know how far away he was from the Spectre, in fact, the Spectre could be closer then he thought if she was traveling at a faster warp speed. He then plotted a new course going south east at about a 10 degree angle, he would go on this course for until he either found any indication of the Spectre, or reached a point parallel to his starting point. He entered the coordinates and then activated Warp 2. He then readied the long range sensors to see if he can find any indication of the Spectre. He would make sure the hunter became the hunted. ~I sure hope this will impress the captain.~ (Reply from None) (Posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 12.15) The Captain was taking in reports before setting a strategy on pursuit of the Evangile. "No definitive sign of the shuttlecraft, although I'm picking up some echoes that might be him.", reported Commander Orde. "The shuttlecraft is not on our short-range sensors, sir. Switching to a long-range scan. And the diagnostics on that da. on the cloaking device show it's back to working order, sir." "Thanks Mr. H'Chir, can you remain on the Bridge at the aft Engineering Station, I think we're going to need your skills.", asked the Bajoran. "Captain, I'm not very good at aspects of starship manoeuvring and combat, my last vessel was not a combat vessel, what precisely does 'flanking' mean?" "Well, Counsellor, it's not exactly an original idea, but it involves our good CONN Officer getting behind us, perhaps in one of the sensor blind spots most ships have in their aft section." "Hmmm... you might want to watch that then." The Counsellor winked at the Captain. ~ No way ~ If the sensors were right, the shuttle had jumped to warp and was at least several hundred thousand kilometres away and beyond the short range sensors; could the Counsellors' senses reach that far or was it just an echo of thought before the officer left the ship? "I should also warn you that the Ensign seems to think the only way he can impress you is by besting you and the ship. You may have to reinforce the fact that even if he fails against the Spectre that you are pleased with his performance." "Thanks Counsellor, I appreciate the insight.", said Remae as he raised his voice, "Engage the cloak.", he said. It had been a long time since the cloak had been active on the Spectre, Remae was eager to see the results. Noise from around the ship, usually from the engines and other emissions died away, leaving silence in its place, the lights on the Bridge dulled. The good news seemed to be that the cloak was now active; the bad news was with the cloak in place, the weapons were offline, the active scans of the sensors were offline, and they would have to rely on the passive sensor array only and hope to pick up the shuttle's warp signature. "Warp signature detected.", said one of the Bridge Officers and the confirmed it was the runabout. Remae turned to the First Officer, "Interesting, I would have thought he would have masked the signature. Mr Lronen, can you take the CONN for me, I need an experienced officer at that station.", ordered the Counsellor. (Reply from Lronen and Schofield) "Lay in a course that follows the signature, warp 6.", ordered the Captain and after a few moments, he ordered the Spectre to engage its warp drive. "Mr Orde, if we extend this course, what lies ahead?", asked Remae. "Maintain course.", said Remae as the passive sensors searched the warp signature for course changes or deviations. (Reply from Schofield, Orde, H'Chir, Lronen, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre: Bridge – TAC/SC/2O Pierce Orde - 1216) "Mr Orde, Red Alert,” the captain ordered. “Lower phaser yield to 1% and replace photon launcher guidance systems with the modified laser." “Aye aye, sir: lowering phaser yield and switching to modified targeting lasers,” Pierce replied, making the necessary changes. The bridge lights flashed to the classic red tint while the klaxon sounded. He kept his face neutral during the brief comm. exchange between Banowsky and the captain. ~He looks like he’s enjoying this~ he thought about the ensign. “...Report?" “No definitive sign of the shuttlecraft, although I’m picking up some echoes that might be him.” ~Every person fights a little differently,~ he thought, ~but we can generalize according to skillsets. He knew that at warp, he would eventually lose the 'link'. Divon made sure only to sweep for surface thoughts and not invade deeper. This was the once instance that he allowed himself some dalliance, after all, this was a war manoeuver and this was what Betazoid counsellors were made for. He felt the deep excitement of the Ensign and the desire to please... perhaps a very small tinge of fear, again he would be surprised and concerned if it didn't exist. Then... "Captain, I'm not very good at aspects of starship maneuvering and combat, my last vessel was not a combat vessel, what precisely does 'flanking' mean?" asked Divon. (Reply Remae, any) "Hmmm... you might want to watch that then," stated Divon innocently and with a wink, "I should also warn you that the Ensign seems to think the only way he can impress you is by besting you and the ship. You may have to reinforce the fact that even if he fails against the Spectre that you are pleased with his performance." Despite Divon's desire to hone his own abilities in these situations, something he had never encountered before, he also wanted to ensure that the psyche of one of his crewmates and patients was safe. (Reply Remae, any) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre, Bridge, COUNS, Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen - 1222) Thus far, the Captain did not seem to be that interested in Divon's insights. He had supposed that he was supposed to be on the bridge for a reason. Perhaps given time Remae would begin to trust his capabilities. "Interesting, I would have thought he would have masked the signature," said the Captain to the First Officer. ~Things aren't always as they seem, my Captain,~ thought Divon to himself. "Mr Lronen, can you take the CONN for me, I need an experienced officer at that station," asked the Captain. This was an interesting turn, being asked to deal with the CONN. Divon didn't know quite how to take this. "Yes Sir," stated Divon as he removed himself from the left command chair and strode across the bridge to the CONN station. He sat down and familiarized himself with the control configuration for this ship. ~Fairly academic... although I'm not used to cloaked ships, its been a long time since I've been on the CONN period. Is he testing me or does he believe that a counsellor on the bridge is useless?~ With that, Divon settled in and awaited further orders. (Reply any) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) [End Compile]
