Here, closer to his ground, was where things become the most hazardous for a climber. He was rapidly nearing the limits of his stamina. The heavier than normal gravity, tugged at his body and the affect was almost as if he were carrying himself on his back as he climbed. Even Deynyk's body had it's limits and the mixture of fatigue and a nearness to reaching his goal was always a potentially dangerous combination. If he didn't stay focused, he'd make the mistake of hurrying. One bad grip at a hundred feet was as bad as one at a thousand, and Deynyk had to constantly test and retest his footing, grip and speed, to make certain that he did not make it to the bottom of the rock face thanks to the indelible force of gravity. His left hand found an excellent grip in a half-meter long crack in the rock face. It was more likely that he would find more such holds as he descended. They were perfectly suited for descent, but not so much the case for ascent. In this instance they allowed his aching peeks and biceps a moment of respite, as he shifted his position to better support his seemingly ever increasing weight. ::Amazing.:: Rinn commented for a bout the three hundredth time since they had begun the descent over four hours ago. ::I don't know how you manage it Deynyk. You've been climbing for nearly a solid four hours in double Earth gravity, yet you're still here.:: ::I don't like to lose Rinn:: Deynyk responded, as he hopscotched down the rock face with a rapid hand-over hand shift in order to clear a portion of the face that was nearly glass-like smoothness. He in effect allowed himself to drop the 15-feet through open space and timed his grip to catch a small outcropping below him. :: Oh my!::Rinn exclaimed, ::That was exciting.:: A terrible jerk whipped Deynyks feet and free right hand into the rock face as he caught himself. A terrible pain shot through his wrist and elbow as he came to an abrupt stop. "Unghh!: he groaned as he came to rest. ::Remind me not to do that in heavy gravity again.:: ::Agreed.:: Rinn replied, ::Don't do that in heavy gravity again, Deynyk.:: ::Smart-ass:: ::Thank you very much. I'm glad you noticed.:: ::Almost there.:: Deynyk replied and finding the base easier to traverse, quickly made his way down to the soft moss covered ground within just a few more minutes. He allowed himself to fall back into the soft flash moss and watched as a bioluminescent wave of green light rippled out from his now still body. The dwarf trees offered a reasonable shade from the heat of the twin suns and with the burbling of the brook and the rush of the waterfall nearby, it didn't take Deynyk long before he succumbed to the sweet embrace of a well-earned nap. (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Holodeck - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 1900) Calvin's men marched at the required speed. He himself was now marching behind them with his shield in a ready position and his sword ready to slash the enemy as needed. It didn't take long for both of his cohorts to reach the heart of the battle. His left unit moved 25 yards away from the battle to the left to protect the flank of the right unit. The right unit took over the now tired 4th cohort. The 4th cohort now safe behind the right unit of the 1st cohort rested and reassembled themselves to enter the battle again, but they would take over for the 8th cohort instead. This would allow the 8th cohort to rest, reassemble and then replace another cohort. This strategy was designed to keep the roman soldiers well rested. At the movement of the Roman 1st cohort the Gauls clearly thought it would be best for them to enter the rest of their soldiers as well. The right flank of the Gaul army marched in a scatter formation. Some of them running and screaming as they moved closer to the close combat battle. Calvin saw this move and readied his left unit. "Pilums," he screamed loudly. The unit at once readied their spears to be thrown at the oncoming Gauls. "In range... launch," Calvin yelled at the top of his lungs. 400 pilums flew in the air. They arched upward and then back down toward the Gaul army. Only half of the enemy beared shields. The spears hit 100 men and if they struck shields the spears would stick into the shield making the shield unusable. The soldier would have to drop the item protecting him and enter the battle with only a sword or axe in hand. Suddenly the program stopped. Everyone except Calvin froze in its place. The Captain then heard the computer, [time limit expired.] Calvin sighed as he heard the news. He always enjoyed his time in the holodeck, but it was important to stay grounded to reality. "Arch." The arch appeared and Calvin left the holodeck. He definitely needed to shower and change. He was also very hungry. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - CO Quarters - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 2100) Calvin had taken all of his ancient roman armor off and quickly cleaned each item tediously. He repeated the same cleaning routine with his weapons. He enjoyed showcasing these items and he didn't appreciate them being dirty or damaged. He then took the tunic and other clothing items and placed them in a pile in his room. He would get to those items at a later time. He moved to the bath, started the sonic shower, and stepped in to feel the warm feeling that it produced. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - CO Quarters - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 2207) Calvin had just sat down at his small 4 person dining room table. He had ordered a small plate of tacos, beans, rice and cheese enchiladas. He also had jalapenos and mild salsa waiting to be poured on top of everything. As he took the ramekin full of salsa and began pouring over his enchilada a beep at the door sounded that someone was there. He took the napkin out of his lap and placed it on to the table. "Come," he said as he walked closer to the door. By the time it opened the Captain was close enough to the door to see who it was. To his surprise his ACMO stood on the other side. Only bad news came to his mind but he attempted to play out the scenario. "Lieutenant Saryn, how can I help you?" (reply Saryn) "Alright, come in. We can have a seat in the living area." Calvin walked into his living area which held a small couch and a chair with a low table in the middle between the two. The Captain chose to sit in the chair. Once comfortable Captain Capps stared at the doctor waiting for her to start the conversation. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - CO Quarters - ACMO Ensign Mia Saryn - 2209) "Come," said Capps and Mia walked through the door. Noting the look on his face, she fought back a smile. ~He looks like i'm about to drop a bomb or something. Well, in a way I am, She thought to herself as she heard him say, "Lieutenant Saryn, how can I help you?" Not knowing how to approach this, she said, simply, “Sir, this is a little ….. personal.” "Alright, come in. We can have a seat in the living area." She followed him as he sat in a comfortable chair. Glancing around, she chose a seat close to him on the couch and it was then that she noticed the food and said, “Oh, i'm interupting, I can come back.” She went to stand but he stopped her, (Reply Capps) Sighing, she sat back down and said, “To be truthful, Sir, I don't know where to begin.” She knew her emotions were showing through on her face, that she was unsure and terrified in the same instance. (Reply Capps) Closing her eyes for a moment, she took a breath and began, “Sir, do you remember before the mission began, when I spoke to you about Ensign Caspian becoming the ships counselor and I made reference that Saryn was moaning about something?” (Reply Capps) Biting her lip, she continued, “Well, I wasn't entirely truthful with you. I know I should have been and, for that, I am sorry. This is coming out all wrong.” (Reply Capps) Looking at him, she continued, “It seems Ensign Caspian and Saryn have a shared history. A history that he kept from me.” (Reply Capps) Smiling a little, she said, “To be fair to him, he had his reasons for keeping it quiet but it seems that he and Doctor Caspian were involved before he came to me. They were in love. Due to married infact. Fate got in the way and he died on what would have been their wedding day. He was shot infront of me.” She could feel a tear begin to run down her face as she continued to speak, the words that she had needed to say to someone came pouring out, “She never knew, she thought he had simply left her. He refused up until tonight to tell me any of this.” (Reply Capps) Listening to him speak, she knew that he would listen to the next part of the sorry tale with an open mind. But she needed someone's counsel and badly. “Sir, that's not everything. I know this isn't what you were expecting to hear tonight but we... that is Doctor Caspian and I ….. we talked and this all came out.....” She stopped, unable to find the right words but wanting to desperately. (Reply Capps) Resting her head in her hands, she said, “...we.... well....” she took a breath and said, “Sir, we …. it still seems so strange to say this outloud to someone but well, let's just say that we were two souls but we shared something special and i'm not sure what to do about it. I need to talk to someone but I don't want this to be common knowledge. Not yet, until I figure out what it is we shared.” (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca - CO Quarters - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 2211) “Oh, i'm interupting, I can come back.” She went to stand but he stopped her. "No, no," Calvin said quickly when he saw the movement of the doctor. "My crew comes first, please continue," he said with a smile. Although he was a little anxious to know what this conversation was going to be about. Sighing, she sat back down and said, “To be truthful, Sir, I don't know where to begin.” She knew her emotions were showing through on her face, that she was unsure and terrified in the same instance. "Take your time, relax and breath," Calvin attempted to relax Mia with a softer tone. He remembered back to his command training. There actually was a section about this very situation. He wasn't going to try to fool himself however, he definitely couldn't remember all the steps given in the lecture. Closing her eyes for a moment, she took a breath and began, “Sir, do you remember before the mission began, when I spoke to you about Ensign Caspian becoming the ships counselor and I made reference that Saryn was moaning about something?” The Captain thought back to their meeting. It was a fairly simple one. Lieutenant Saryn recommended Ensign Caspian to be ships counselor, but during their conversation Mia paused and froze for a few seconds. Calvin attempted to get her attention, but she just continued to stare. It wasn't until after she came out of this trance that she explained that her and Saryn were speaking to each other. "Yes, I do." Biting her lip, she continued, “Well, I wasn't entirely truthful with you. I know I should have been and, for that, I am sorry. This is coming out all wrong.” She was right, Calvin thought. It is not common place to start with admitting to lying to your CO. It was clear to the Captain that this was much more than that, it was something personal and very heavy. Looking at him, she continued, “It seems Ensign Caspian and Saryn have a shared history. A history that he kept from me.” This took Calvin back. He had to think how exactly a trill and a symbiont worked. He didn't exactly know that they could keep secrets from each other. "Oh, I can see how that could be such a surprise. Is their shared history a good one?" Smiling a little, she said, “To be fair to him, he had his reasons for keeping it quiet but it seems that he and Doctor Caspian were involved before he came to me. They were in love. Due to married infact. Fate got in the way and he died on what would have been their wedding day. He was shot infront of me.” She could feel a tear begin to run down her face as she continued to speak, the words that she had needed to say to someone came pouring out, "She never knew, she thought he had simply left her. He refused up until tonight to tell me any of this." Wow the Captain thought. He was certain he wasn't getting every detail of the story but just the little Mia told him was shocking and remarkable. He could also see that this conversation was quickly becoming a relationship inquiry. Relationships were not Calvin's strong suit. He believed in following one's heart. Calvin loved a woman name Elizabeth Knightley, and they were suppose to be married. But Elizabeth wanted stay on Earth and Calvin wanted to continue his career in Starfleet. Although he loved his finance his heart told him to follow his dreams in Starfleet. "That is a remarkable story Mia," Calvin said using the doctors first name. He felt it would be appropriate to move this conversation to more of a friendly one. In a usual situation the Captain probably would ask Mia to see the counselor but in this instance that wasn't even a thought. “Sir, that's not everything. I know this isn't what you were expecting to hear tonight but we... that is Doctor Caspian and I ….. we talked and this all came out.....” She stopped, unable to find the right words but wanting to desperately. Calvin could tell the difference in Mia's voice now. She was about to release the big news. Resting her head in her hands, she said, “...we.... well....” she took a breath and said, “Sir, we …. it still seems so strange to say this outloud to someone but well, let's just say that we were two souls but we shared something special and i'm not sure what to do about it. I need to talk to someone but I don't want this to be common knowledge. Not yet, until I figure out what it is we shared.” Calvin understood immediately. The Captain's thought was of joy for Mia. It would seem that she had found someone that was truly her soul mate, but then it hit him. Was Caspian Mia's or Saryn's soul mate. To the Captain that would be the hardest question to answer. Other than that it seemed simple. "Mia, I don't believe you have done anything that you should be ashamed of. Love is a very powerful emotion. An emotion that I feel should always be followed. The only thing I think you need to do is decide who is in love with Elizabeth; you, Saryn or both of you. Once you have figured that out if your heart tells you to follow the relationship then I think you should." (reply Saryn) "I think this is a very exciting time in your life. To find the person you love is one of the best feelings one can achieve," Calvin said with a large smile. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - CO Quarters – ACMO Lieutenant JG Mia Saryn – 2216) "Mia, I don't believe you have done anything that you should be ashamed of. It was something that she had thought about ever since she had left Lizzy in her bed. Sighing, she said, “To be honest, Sir, that's what the problem is for me. I know that Saryn loves her with all his soul and I think the same goes for me.” she replied honestly. She had realised that she had feelings for her friend the moment their lips had touched and it scared her, big time. She hadn't felt like this for a long time and it had come as a shock that it had been a woman that had brought out the feelings in her. "I think this is a very exciting time in your life. To find the person you love is one of the best feelings one can achieve," Capps said with a large smile. Smiling herself, she said, “I know. It's such a shock. Without wanting to embarress you, I never thought that it would be with another woman that I would find this.... whatever this is but I can't lie and say that I don't want to follow this.” (Reply Capps) She laughed a little, “That is most certainly true.” Sighing, she rose slowly and said, “I cannot thankyou enough for this.” (Reply Capps) Mia nodded and then replied, “Sir, I know that I don't really have to say this but I would appreciate if this were kept between ourselves. At least until I'm ready for the others to know.” (Reply Capps) Without thinking, Mia walked forward and enfolded the Captain in a hug and said, simply, “Thankyou.” (Reply Capps) Pulling away, she smiled and said, “Well, now that's over, I should be going.” (Reply Capps) Mia grinned and said, “I'll leave you to your food, Sir, and see you in sickbay for your next medical.” and with that, she left. (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca - CO Quarters - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 2218) “I know. It's such a shock. Without wanting to embarress you, I never thought that it would be with another woman that I would find this.... whatever this is but I can't lie and say that I don't want to follow this.” Calvin smiled, he could clearly see that Mia was smitten at the idea of her being in love. "The most valued treasure is sometimes the most unusual." She laughed a little, “That is most certainly true.” Sighing, she rose slowly and said, “I cannot thank you enough for this.” "Certainly doctor, I enjoy helping." Calvin hoped he had actually helped as much as Mia was acting like he did. Sometimes though, he knew, that listening was the best medicine. Mia nodded and then replied, “Sir, I know that I don't really have to say this but I would appreciate if this were kept between ourselves. At least until I'm ready for the others to know.” "Not a problem, my lips are sealed," Calvin said with a huge grin. He felt like he was back in grade school. He chuckled to himself. Before he knew it he saw the woman officer head towards him and opened up her arms. He knew what was about to happen but he was honestly take surprised by it. He thought it would be most strange for a crew member to be given a hug to their Captain, but Captain Capps replied in kind and hugged the doctor who was now very happy. “Thank you," Mia said. The hug ended just as quick as it began. They each pulled away from each other. “Well, now that's over, I should be going.” "Very well Mia. Enjoy your night!" Calvin stated. Mia grinned and said, “I'll leave you to your food, Sir, and see you in sickbay for your next medical.” and with that, she left. Calvin watched the doctor leave his quarters. ~Next medical? Maybe!~ He laughed to himself again. He actually wasn't that hard headed about reporting to sickbay but he enjoyed giving them a hard time about it. He turned and entered his kitchen once again. The hungry captain found his dinner plate waiting for him. The food was now cold so he placed it into the replicator to reheat the food. After it finished, Calvin sat back down and began to divulge into the good eats. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca – Mia's Quarter's – Lt JG Mia Saryn – 2224) Creeping quietly back into the bedroom, Mia sat quietly on the edge of the bed, trying hard not to wake Lizzy as she took her shoes off. (Reply Caspian) Smiling, she replied, “Let's just sleep.” Lying back, she pulled Lizzy next to her and said, softly, “Stay with me.” (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca - Mia's Quarters – Ensign(jg) Elizabeth Caspian, Dr – 2226) Elizabeth woke sometime later to a large empty bed, she was worried, concerned, and scared. ~ Where did Mia go? ~ She wondered. Elizabeth had been alone so long now that she had found someone truly special to her only it would seem to lose her again terrified the telepath. She wanted to reach out with her mind to find Mia but was afraid of what she would find. ~ Does she feel the same for me, Did we move to far to fast? ~ More and more questions filled her mind. She finally turned over and tried unsuccessfully to go back to sleep. Some time later Mia Crept quietly back into the bedroom, Mia sat quietly on the edge of the bed, trying hard not to wake Lizzy as she took her shoes off. Suddenly, she felt arms around her and a voice whisper in her ear. "Where did you go, you scared me?" Lizzy meekly Leaning back, she rested her head on Lizzy's shoulders and said, “I went to talk to the Captain. I needed to talk to someone.” "I see needed to get somethings straightened out in your mind to." Lizzy replied. "The Captain would need to know about us anyway and sooner is better than later, I hoped it helped? " She continued has she started to run her fingers though Mia's hair. Turning to face her, she took her face in her hands and said, “Yes, it helped.” and she kissed her softly. They lingered in that kiss for a good while, comforted by the knowledge that there secret was safe here. They both knew that there would come a time when they could share their love openly but now was not that time. Once the kiss broke Lizzy replied. "That's good, I'm glad it helped." Smiling, she replied, “Let's just sleep.” Lying back, she pulled Lizzy next to her and said, softly, “Stay with me.” Lizzy turned and entangled her body into Mia's, as she whispered. "Why would I go anywhere when I can wake looking into your lovely face." Kissing her forhead lightly she, they drifted off to sleep once more. She slipped from the bed walking over to the replicator asked the machine to make her something to ware. Since all of her things were left in her quarters. A slight issue that would have to be fixed, if these sleep overs were to become more a common place. She sat behind a small nightstand that had a mirror on the wall behind it, Lizzy started to brush her hair has Mia started to stirred on the bed. "Good morning, sleep well." Elizabeth asked cheerfully, as she brushed her blond locks. (reply Mia) "I'm thinking I'll continue to let it grow out," She spoke out loud to no one in particular. Then she turned to Mia. "What do you think?" (reply Mia) She nodded has she pondered Mia's answer, smiling "When your ready I think breakfast is in order." Still not being able to believe her luck at this turn of events, she sat up with the covers wrapped around her to see Lizzy, brushing her hair, "Good morning, sleep well." Smiling, she moved to the edge of the bed and said, “Definately.” She stood and walked to her side and smiled. "I'm thinking I'll continue to let it grow out, What do you think?" Wrapping her arms around her, she said, “I think you're gorgeous as you are but do whatever you feel is best.” Lizzy smiled and replied, “When your ready I think breakfast is in order." Mia grinned widely and said, “Breakfast? Hmmm, sounds like a plan.” Leaning forward, she kissed her gently on her forehead and said, “How did we get to be this lucky? I mean to have found each other?” (Reply Caspian) Grinning widely, she replied, “For now, I want to keep this between us. I want to see where this is going before anyone else finds out. To be honest, I want to keep you all to myself.” (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay – aCMO Lieutenant Jg Mia Saryn - 1329) After having said goodbye to Lizzy after breakfast, Mia had sat in sickbay with a smile on her face that had made several of the nurses wonder what on earth had happened. As she continued to work through some paperwork, she heard a voice speak to her, "Good afternoon, Doctor. Ensign Getman, reporting for a medical checkup, Sir." Mia stood and held out her hand and said, “Nice to meet you, Ensign Getman. Take a seat on biobed one.” (reply Getman) Mia looked at one of the nurses as if to say here's another newbie. Reaching for her tricorder, she said, “So tell me, Ensign, what brings you to the Boudicca?” (reply Getman) Nodding, she looked down at the scans and said, “Hmmm, I see you have a small heart problem. Nothing to be concerned about. Ever since Mia and Elizabeth shared that fateful night together she knew that this meeting was gonna be tense. Jacobs who already has been on the bad side of dealings with females only to loose what might of turned into a all well and good relationship with Mia to one might set a bad stage for future meetings. She hoped the chief engineer would be has level headed has he seemed to understand that there was a past that he knew nothing about and a past that would be hard to fight against. The sound of the door chime snapped Elizabeth back into the present. She nodded pushed the button on her desk that would allow him entry. "Good morning, Dr. " "Good Morning Lt., I hope you morning goes well." She replied smiling, locking away the troublesome emotions and thoughts that were plaguing her. "It's been an uneventful morning," He responded then stopped to think. "actually that's not entirely true." "Really, what happened then." She replied kindly. "Well it was a normal morning until I came across the uniform I was wearing on the day I was abducted. It just made me flash back to that day. It was a lot to relive." Jacobs answered. "I can understand that, it was a lot for anyone to go though." Elizabeth spoke, she noticed Jacobs seemed a bit edgy like he was in the spotlight and didn't care for it. "Well isn't that why I am here? To talk it out? I really have no idea how talking about it helps me get over it?" He spoke his voice taking on an slight edge, Elizabeth was sure at that there was a hundred other things the engineer wanted to be doing other than sitting here. "Your here because something terrible has happened to you and people who care about you to do everything possible to help make sure that you'll be OK." Elizabeth replied. "I know you were ordered to see me by the Captain, that's only because he cares for all his crew and that includes you." She continued softly. "I am wiling to try this with your help." He responded after a moment. "And I will do what I can to help you. Now I know it was a lot to relieve but when you found the uniform from that time how did it make you feel, what emotions came to you?" Elizabeth asked what she knew was a hard question. It was the case with most men, they tended to block whatever emotions seemed to make them feel weak, useless, or bring them face to face with their own mortality. From reading the mission profile and what she knew about Jacobs himself she was sure getting to face and acknowledge those emotions, and that they were a normal process would start to put him on the road of mentally healing from the ordeal he undertook, which she was sad to admit normally took longer than a trip to sick bay. I will inform you that I have seen many situations on the USS Boudicca to suggest otherwise so sit down and join the discussion or leave." Uther interjected. "Yeah that is my point. Your Klingon side wins most of the time and has a real anger management problem." He added. "Well that may be true but the Betazoid side is running this discussion. Mindia shall we take out the trash." Mindia nodded and left her seat and walked with him to the exit. If Uther though he had an advantage over her he was dead wrong because she was also trained by her father in hand to hand and could beat a man if she had to. She followed Uther out into the park and found he brought three other thugs with him. Uther advanced on Mindia along with another man. Lars advanced on Detron along with two other men. He made quick moves on the two men and made Judo type flips slamming them to the ground. Lars charged only to get pummeled with fast chops to the chest and head. He told them to stay down but of course they kept on coming. He finished them off with some of the tactics he used against the Borg. He left them on the ground in severe pain.He came over to Mindia's position and plowed into Uther like a football linebacker. Uther tumbled on the ground until he settled at the base of a fountain. The other man fled to get medical help to the area. He and Mindia returned to the conference. (posted by Edward Engel) (Betazed - Activity Center - TAC/S LT(JG) Detron Trei - 1335) He waited for Mindia to relieve herself before going back to the conference. She usually need to use the bathroom after a battle. He suspected she was just splashing water on her face. She came out of the Ladies Room and they entered the conference. Mindia took her vacated seat and he stood at the head of the table. This was the time of the conference to pair up in groups of 2. One on one was the best way to work with control of emotions and thoughts to help each other connect. He paired with a girl he sensed has been tormented by Uther and Lars. Mindia paired with another girl that was picked on as well. He sat at the head of the table with the girl sitting to his left. They turned their chairs so they were facing directly. He instructed the girl to place her hands in his and open her mind. He did the same and began to connect with her mind. : Relax and send me your thoughts : He felt she was tense which was understandable. She eventually showed him in though how Uther and Lars bullied her. He sent her a wave of calming thoughts to ease her mind. As she relaxed, she began to connect better to him. He informed her in thought that Uther and Lars were taken care of outside. They are getting medical attention because they refused to listen to reason. He looked over to Mindia and she had a similar experience with her partner. He went back to connecting with his partner. (posted by Edward Engel) (Betazed - Activity Center - TAC/S LT(JG) Detron Trei - 1340) He continued to work with the girl on managing her thoughts and emotions concerning being bullied by Uther. : Let your fear of being bullied begin to drift away. You are starting to get stronger and stronger control of your emotions. You start to feel centered in your thoughts and are not bothered by teasing or threatening words. You start to look inside yourself for the courage and strength to stand up against the bullies. Look to this source for inner strength from now on. He began to show her how he dealt with Uther and Lars growing up in Betazed. This seemed to calm her and make her content. : I know you are not half Klingon and don't have the physical strength to handle a fight one on one. Use your inner strength to rally support against the threat that you can fight as a group against the threat. You take their power away from them when you show strength.: He looked over to Mindia to see how she was doing. She used the same technique as he did and was deep in connection . He smiled at how well she was doing. She will make a good counselor in Starfleet. He hoped to work with her often. :We are slowly coming back to conscious thought in one ... two... three......... The girl smiled at the the help he provided. She gave him a huge warm bear hug. He returned the hug but held back so not to crush her. She returned to her seat as he returned to his seat. He made notes on his PADD and waited for Mindia to return to her seat. (posted by Edward Engel) (Betazed - Activity Center - TAC/S LT(JG) Detron Trei - 1350) He waited for the groups to finish their connected activity. The participants returned to their seats and gave him their attention. He had several certificates replicated and lying on the table waiting to be issued . He called his sister Mindia up first and read the nature of the certificate. "This certificate insures that you have completed the task of controlling your emotions and thoughts in a well done display of skill. It is an acknowledgment of the achievement of your progressed ability. Along comes with it a pin which I now place on your chest to signify this accomplishment. Congratulations on a job well done." After the applause faded he extended his hand to shake that of his sister and said to her "well done." She beamed with a sense of pride for the work well done. The rest of the participants rose from their seats and filed up to receive their certificates and pins. He gave himself a pin for teaching the class but took no certificate. He wrote a full report on his PADD to be read by Captain Capps when he returned to the Boudicca. It should be interesting reading. He dismissed the class and left the room to spend some time with his sister. He had read his report to the CO of Geneva many times. Something just didn't seem right with it though. As he strolled through the 27 page report his eyes began to scratch. He looked around his room looking for a distraction some way of procrastinating from further torture. And then suddenly his door rang. Calvin jumped a little not expecting such a sudden noise. He had turned his music off after the third time he read his report. He had hoped it would help him concentrate. After the Captain gained his composure back he tapped the button on his console and the screen went black. "Enter," he said, but thought he should have itched his eyes before he allowed the person behind the door to come in. An ensign he had never seen before entered his ready room. Captain Capps quickly searched his brain for an explanation. He also used his astute observations skills to help him solve the mystery. The young man was and Ensign Junior Grade and he had brought bags with him. ~Ah, this officer must be a new man for the Boudicca.~ "Captain, ensign Stephen Getman reporting for duty." "Excellent, Ensign Getman. I am Captain Capps. Please have a seat," Calvin said as he pointed to a chair. Now that he heard the name of the Ensign sitting in front of him he remembered the crew transfer report earlier in the week announcing Ensign Getman's new orders. "How was your trip to Geneva?" (reply Getman) "I can say I have had worse, hopefully the Boudicca will play as a nicer stay. Tell me why did you join Starfleet?" (reply Getman) "And why Engineering?" (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - Asst. CEO Lt. jg. Stephen Getman - 1310) "How was your trip to Geneva?" Asked the senior officer, pointing at the chair invitingly. After the relatively uncomfortable journey Captain's light tone was a blessing, something Stephen did not expect from a commanding officer on top of preparations for a new mission. Ensign was grateful for the effort but at the same time chose to remain careful not to stretch the line, remaining truthful but professional. "The journey itself was fortunately uneventful, I had plenty of time to read up on the Keltoi class. A most interesting piece of engineering, Sir." He briefly wrapped the answer up. Captain's swollen eyes and piles of variously sized PADDs on his desk clearly indicated there would be a better time for lengthy discussions. Stephen sat down. "Though I wish the seemingly random passengers we picked up along the road held shared bathroom's hygiene in a bit higher regard." He thrown in to return the effort for an easier mood. "I can say I have had worse, hopefully the Boudicca will play as a nicer stay. Tell me why did you join Starfleet?" ~ Second hardest question... ~ Getman gathered his thoughts, this seemed simple - a question asked several times before and during the entry exams. "I think I always wanted to see the world, be where few has been before. Hiring myself to a shipping conglomerate would give me that but I wanted to make a difference as well. At the very end I want to look back and say - *I* was there, *I* worked helping build better galaxy. Starfleet seemed the only reasonable choice, with access to technologies and cumulative experience of countless officers unavailable to a civilian." "And why Engineering?" Captain continued. ~ *The* hardest question. ~ Ensign weighted his words for a few seconds, then looked at the captain but his eyes were still trained on Stephen relentlessly. It was hard to read the experienced officer, even with the forced smile and a care for pleasantries he still emanated with experience and composure. "I'm afraid the only answer more reasonable to simple 'because that's what I do best' Sir, is a councillor's character description back from the Academy. That order, peace and planning are a significant part of my personality and because there is little in life more controllable and at the same time useful than machines my inner psyche chose to harbour that safe skill." Getman paused for the grain of sarcasm to sink in. "Now, whether I agree with that or it's just that I've been in ships, old duotronics, and early isolinears since I can remember and this is still what brings me most fun, plus it can be put to good use by Starfleet for everything I believe it will give me, is a dilemma still to be answered, Captain." Getman concluded. (posted by Bartek) (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 1312) The Captain sat in his chair and listened to his new officer intently. Once Mr. Getman was finished Calvin responded. "It seems to me Ensign Getman that you have it all figured out." Calvin stood from his chair and extended his hand. "Welcome aboard the Boudicca, I feel your service will be very grateful here." (reply Getman) "Yes, you need to report to Lieutenant Jacobs, the CEO. He will be in his office in Engineering," Calvin gave the order to the new officer. (reply Getman) "You are dismissed." The Captain watched Stephen turn on his heels, pick up his bag and leave the ready room. As he sat back down he remembered the report he was working on and wished he would have made the meeting go longer. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - Asst. CEO En. jg. Stephen Getman - 1330) "Welcome aboard the Boudicca, I feel your service will be very grateful here." "Thank you Sir, I intend to give only my best." Getman confirmed, returning Captain's handshake. "I believe introducing myself to the department's head would be in order now?" "Yes, you need to report to Lieutenant Jacobs, the CEO. He will be in his office in Engineering, you are dismissed." The senior officer concluded. "Aye, Captain." Ensign nodded, turning around. He was certainly happy that among all of the commanding officers he heard stories about, those gritty, uncooperative, or difficult types, he was assigned to one that seemed just fine. ~ Let's not jump to conclusions that fast, shall we? Plus there's still the CEO that can make my life a real pain. ~ Stephen quickly corrected himself. He picked his bag and left the office, leaving Captain to his undoubtedly difficult work. (posted by Bartek) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - Asst. CEO En. jg. Stephen Getman - 1335) Moments after dropping his belongings at the room he would be calling home for quite some time, wishing he had more time to settle in, Stephen left the turbolift onto a corridor on deck 7. While on his way to main engineering it had occurred to him a medical examination is in order for each new crew member before they even start performing their duties. Assuming that wouldn't take long, he decided for a small detour. Sickbay was right outside the turbolift and the doors opened once he approached. ~ Spacious... many beds. ~ were his first thoughts when he entered the room. He was looking at a design clearly influenced by the Keltoi project's primary aims. They expected casualties. Some boxes and machines were still lying around clearly out of place, most probably an effect of ongoing resupply before a new mission. Out of several crewman-ranked nurses arranging the larger and smaller equipment, Stephen picked out a familiar face at the other end of the room, one he saw in the crew manifest on his way to Geneva. "Good afternoon, Doctor." Mindful not to walk into anyone's way, he approached the senior officer. "Ensign Getman, reporting for a medical checkup, Sir." (posted by Bartek) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay – Asst. CEO En. jg. Stephen Getman - 1335) "Nice to meet you, Ensign Getman." Doctor shook hands with Stephen. "Take a seat on biobed one." "Thank you, Doctor." He moved to and sat on the bed nearby, having a moment while the CMO signalled a nurse. Lieutenant Saryn seemed a kind, ordered, and stable person. Getman's first impression was definitely positive although doctor did seem a bit preoccupied. "So tell me, Ensign, what brings you to the Boudicca?" She asked while performing tricorder scans. Getman smiled. "Well, I guess I won't be very original if I say I want to see the world and make it better in the process. Now, coming here straight from the Academy and having no experience whatsoever, I'm still to come up with just how I want to do that." "Hmmm, I see you have a small heart problem." Doctor commented some of the results. "Nothing to be concerned about. I can treat this for you, if you would like?" "That would be great Doctor! It was diagnosed earlier but since it wasn't life-threatening nor did it hamper my physical tests back at the Academy I never got down to it." Getman was content he would finally be able to close that small but annoying chapter of his health life. "I'm to report to Lieutenant Jacobs however, so if you think this may take more that a few moments, I will be more than happy to schedule a visit during my off-duty hours. Of course, you have the final say Doctor." (posted by Bartek) ================================================================ Hope you enjoyed!
