"What area are they originating from?" Calvin wanted more information. It could be another trap he thought. "All of the warp signatures seemed centralized in this sector of the Sull Path. It's increasingly close to an astroid field at the edge of the expanse," he stopped as his console began to beep again. "Sensors are also picking up concentrations of tetryon particles. The signals match those of the cloaked mines and the ship that bandits departed in. It looks like she is taking the shuttle right to their hideout," Nickolas concluded. "Understood, send the coordinates direclty to the conn," the Captain replied with a rapid pace. His heart stopped for a second as he heard the news. Then it jump started to overdrive. The Captain's adrenalin began to flow through his body. "Sending the coordinates to the helm now." "Good work Ensign Romanoff, report to the bridge to continue tracking the shuttle. Bridge out." With little notice from Calvin Ensign Trei had entered the bridge and began working on his own theory. When the comms closed the security officer reported in with his findings. "The warp signatures confirm my theory sir. The cluster of asteroids are mines that are surrounding the Bandits. I have a team in Security on stand by read for my call to action. I suggest we force them to reveal themselves by willing the mines to attack the bandits. When they are disabled, we beam over and detain them for their actions. What are your thoughts sir?" "I like your thinking Mr. Trei, but I believe that might be a little too risky for Ensign Jacobs safety. Instead I will ready a squad of marines on a drop-shuttle. I am taking a gamble on the element of surprise here. The Nighthawk will disable the Cartecay and beam Ensign Jacobs away. The Boudicca will go after Toulin and his ship, the Broken Wing." (reply Trei) "Good, make the preparations. Calvin turned to the conn station, "How long will it take us to get to the cluster of asteroids?" The ensign sitting at the console already had the answer, "At warp 9, 14 minutes." The Captain tapped his foot and fought the urge to bite his fingernail. He didn't really think that 14 minutes was quick enough. Then a radical idea came to mind. "What about at emergency speed?" The conn officer looked astonished at the idea. "Sir," dropped out of his mouth before he realized what he said. Before Calvin could respond the ensign moved on, "calculating now sir. At warp 9.975 we would arrive in...9 minutes and 53 seconds. Just under the auto shut down, sir." He liked it. Normally the Captain wouldn't have thought about an idea such as this, but today was like no other he has ever experienced. "Make it so!" Before the Boudicca shot off, he opened his comm. "Captain Capps to Major Kilowa." (posted by Calvin Capps) (Shuttlecraft Cartecay – Lieutenant Sarah Becks - 1415) "Can you tell me what you all are doing out here in the Sull Path? Im sure there are other ways to survive than to continually raid ships that pass through here." She smiled and said, “We've always been here. It's been a successful place for us. We survive thanks to our own ingenuity. We have to. Many of us have family to support and this is the only way.” " You know things do not have to end this way. I am sure that if we turned around and went back to the Boudicca you could explain your position to the captain and he would show you some leniency. We can even find a way to help all of the bandits that are out here. We just want a peaceful solution to the problem." She laughed a little and said, “I doubt that. Starfleet doesn't have a good history of leniancy with pirates. You'd lock us all up with no chance at freedom. A lifetime in Jail? I don't think so.” After a moment, she walked back to the replicator and ordered a drink. Picking up her water, she picked up her phaser and walked back towards her captive when he said, "Looks like we are coming up on an asteroid field, and apparently there are more of those mines that we encountered previously." She took her seat and said, “Yes we are. We are nearly at our destination. I'll take control.” She placed her drink onto the console and began to navigate her way through the mines. "This is pretty ingenious." She smiled at him and said, “Why thankyou, Mr Jacobs.” she turned back and noted that there was a ship heading their way. “Looks like Toulin has sent a welcome party.” She opened the comms system and said, “Becks to Toulin. I'm coming home and, as you can see, with a small gift.” She smiled at Jacobs, cooly. (posted by Jackie) (USS Boudicca - Support Ship Launching Bay - Major Joel Kilowa - 1417) The major stood outside and at the back of the Trojan Class Marine Drop-Shuttle. He faced three other marines whose backs were to the shuttle. The other three marines stood at attention ready, prepared for their orders. Major Kilowa looked at each set of eyes before he spoke,"Men you have assembled together today for a search and rescue mission. It would appear that a fleeter has decided to jump into a frying pan. It is our job to get him out before he's made into dinner. Listen up, the op is simple. The Boudicca will be engaging in emergency speed shortly. At the end of its flight we will be directly outside of our target. We will deploy immediately. Our pilot will proceed to the shuttle Cartecay. The AI system will be taking charge of the weapon system. The plan is to make the Cartecay defenseless as we beam our officer aboard the Hammer." "If we are unable to use the transporter system then we will be forced to use LBH. Before we deploy the LBH we will hit the Cartecay as hard as we can to shake it up enough to give us enough time to break through and catch our enemy off guard. Cox, Rodriguez and myself will enter the Cartecay and take care of business. Understood?" "Sir, yes sir" Joel heard from the three marines. "Pick up your gear and settle in," the major ordered. He watched his men follow orders without hesitation. He followed in behind Cox on to the shuttle. He was already in the mind set of a win and he was ready to go. Now he had to wait for the Captain to get the rescue mission on its way. (Shuttlecraft Cartecay- aOps, Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn- 1420) Deynyk had managed to tap into the computer voice recognition hardware in the cockpit of the runabout without being detected. This in turn allowed him to listen to the conversation between Becks and Jacobs during the trip. The fact that the layer between the crawl space and the cockpit was soundproof helped as well. He hadn't found much of the conversation useful, and so the majority of his attention had turned to trying to keep his muscles from cramping up in the tight space. ~Not the best way to fly~ he thought as he stretched and released the muscles in his shoulders. ~I certainly hope this trip ends soon, my back is killing me.~ He allowed his attention to return to the conversation taking place in the cockpit. =/=You know things do not have to end this way.=/= Jacobs was saying I am sure that if we turned around and went back to the Boudicca you could explain your position to the captain and he would show you some leniency. We can even find a way to help all of the bandits that are out here. We just want a peaceful solution to the problem.=/= She laughed a little and said, =/= I doubt that. Starfleet doesn't have a good history of leniancy with pirates. You'd lock us all up with no chance at freedom. A lifetime in Jail? I don't think so.=/= ~She's got a point.~ Dey thought. ::Actually, in extenuating circumstances whereby the pirates are political refugees or displaced due to conflicts with other species and forced to piracy for survival, there are ways to repatriate them or to give them political asylum:: Rinn offered. ::Really how?:: Dey asked, genuinely curious. ::In 2401, the Federation council extended political asylum rights to the Diplomatic Corps when a group of separatist pirates was attacking shipping in the Doria System after they had been forced from their planet due to political pressures. The council dictated that the conditions of the situation were such that the pirates were given no real choice in the manner of their survival, and that therefore they could be resettled, given political refugee status and given a medium of official protest.:: ::A series of rules and requirements were written which are used to determine such a groups eligibility for such actions. It's one more tool in the belt of the diplomat when dealing with such groups.:: Rinn explained. ::Very interesting:: Deynyk thought, ::I wonder if it can be applied here?:: :I have no idea. I am not familiar enough with the pirates particular circumstances to answer that question at this time:: his symbiont answered, ::still worth keeping in mind.:: =/=Looks like we are coming up on an asteroid field, and apparently there are more of those mines that we encountered previously.=/= Jacobs voice sounded over the relay. Deynyk slid over to the display that was passively relaying the sensor and visual data from the cockpit. ~Interesting. We must be getting close.~ =/=Yes we are. We are nearly at our destination. I'll take control.=/= Becks responded. =/=This is pretty ingenious.=/= Deynyk couldn't help but agree with the assessment of the chief engineer. It was a very clever arrangement. But the very fact that Deynyk would be able to access the exact path that the shuttle took through the field at a later time would be very helpful if the Boudicca came looking for them. He very carefully collected the data onto his work PADD so that it would be available should Becks decide to erase it after landing. =/=Why thank you, Mr Jacobs. Looks like Toulin has sent a welcome party. Becks to Toulin. I'm coming home and, as you can see, with a small gift.=/= Deynyk slid across the small crawl space and as close as possible to the coil field generators, in the hopes that the energy would mask his biosignature. He figured he had about a 50-50 chance of being detected by the other ship. He pulled quickly entered a series of commands into his PADD and then locked it with his access codes. He then pulled open one of the more obscure service access panels, and hid the PADD inside the small workspace. Then he replaced the panel and waited for the shuttlecraft to land. He was now wondering whether he had been discovered or not. (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/S ENS(SG) Detron Trei - 14.20) He heard the orderd from CPT Capps and was intrigued with his boldness to go on emergency speed. He did not agree however with using Marines when a Klingon can do a better job. He nodded that he understood the orders. "Understood sir. Call me when you are ready for action." (posted by Edward) (Broken Wing - Bridge - Captain Ral Toulin - 1422) It had been hours since the Broken Wing left the scene of their crime. On their way home they had stopped by a nearby moon that held a nice establishment that served the best alcohol on this side of the asteroid belt. Now Toulin and his men were back at their home base within the asteroid belt. Some of the crew had already been beamed to the surface to report to the elders. Ral stayed aboard his vessel to oversee the transfer of the stolen cargo. As Ral leaned against the back wall casually talking about the earlier raid, the man behind the communication panel spoke up. "Sir, we have an unidentified ship emerging from the mine field. They are hailing us. =/\=Becks to Toulin. I'm coming home and, as you can see, with a small gift.=/\= She smiled at Jacobs, cooly "Becks...what are you doing here?" Ral asked. He was unsure how he felt about her presence. How was he going to explain the stolen shuttlecraft and her disappearance. (reply Becks) "No I am not. You will have complicated my explanation to the elders." As worried as he was about the elders he was more concerned if she had been followed. "Have you been followed?" (reply Bekcs) "How do you know?" he continued. (reply Becks) "What, you can't kidnap someone! Don't move, we will need to work this out." (posted by Calvin Capps) (Shuttlecraft Cartecay- aOps, Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn- 1424) Dey lay on his back, the deck texture seeming to drive themselves into the pit of his lower back and listened as Becks spoke with Toulin over the communications channel. The mention of Elders, didn't seem consistent with the organization of a pirate pack. In fact it sounded more like the organization of a colony. After all, how many pirate packs called their leaders elder rather than something like Captain or Blackbeard the bold, or some equally similar rubbish. The fact that there was something other than just piracy going on here was apparent. The question was what that something was. ::What reasons could they have for not seeking asylum?:: He asked Rinn. ::They could think it impossible, or be unaware that they can seek asylum.:: his symbiont answered. ::What what would make it impossible?:: ::Well, let's see...If they were genetically engineered, or if they were the offspring of genetically engineered beings. If they were carriers of some sort of dangerous contagion. If they were criminals, especially if their crimes were those of the worst sort. Of if they were war criminals. Or if their taking asylum would cause a problem on their world of origin. They could be outcasts for a government with strong political or economic ties with the UFP:: Deynyk frowned as he thought about the possibilities that were being presented to him. He could understand some of those aspects. Escaped criminals would certainly not want to return to the Federation. But these people didn't strike Deynyk as true criminal types. They seemed to be more the desperate survivalist types, trying to make the best from a otherwise intolerable situation. The question was why were they placed in this situation in the first place and how could their circumstances be improved peacefully and without any worry of retribution or punishment, if at all? (posted by Daniel Greene) (Shuttle Cartecay- Lieutenant Sarah Becks - 1425) "Becks...what are you doing here?" he asked. She felt her brow furrow a little as she replied, “Surely you're happy to see me?” "No I am not. You will have complicated my explanation to the elders. Have you been followed?" “No, I am sure of that.” "How do you know?" he continued. “Because I have with me a little gift. The USS Chief Engineer, Mr Henry Jacobs.” "What, you can't kidnap someone! Don't move, we will need to work this out." “Understood. Becks out.” She turned her chair to Jacobs and said, “Oh Mr Jacobs, If only that you had not been on this shuttle.” (Reply Jacobs) She smiled, sweetly, and then said, “Oh nothing yet. But if things don't go the way I want, then, well, I might have to cut you loose!” (posted by Jackie Smith) (Shuttlecraft Cartecay - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 1431) Jacobs sat quietly as he listened to the conversation that Becks and her captain were having. It seemed that her arrival was not expected or welcomed and the fact that she had kidnapped someone only made the situation even more tense. More than once Henry heard Captain Toulin speak of elders that the bandits reported to. This changed everything. ~Maybe there is more to these bandits than what we thought. Maybe this situation can still be salvaged.~ Returning from his thoughts he heard Becks call out to him, "Oh Mr. Jacobs, If only that you had not been on this shuttle." "You should have realized that before you stole the shuttle. But what are you going to do with me now?" She smiled, sweetly, and then said, “Oh nothing yet. But if things don't go the way I want, then, well, I might have to cut you loose!” Henry was almost sure that by this time the Boudicca had picked up on the warp signatures the shuttle had created, however he had not seen any sign of them yet. What worried him even more was the fact that the ship was not going to realize that there were more cloaked mines protecting the asteroid field. Time was obviously running out as they had already reached the bandits hideout. "I heard Toulin talk about elders. Are they in charge here? Maybe they will listen to reason and possibly reconsider what we talked about before." (reply Becks) "Well if they wont listen to reason will they at least hear me out?" (reply Becks) "I will be the judge of that. When we land I would like to speak with my captors" (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (Shuttlecraft Cartecay – Lieutenant Sarah Becks - 1433) "I heard Toulin talk about elders. Are they in charge here? Maybe they will listen to reason and possibly reconsider what we talked about before." She laughed and said, “I doubt that. They don't like the Federation and won't listen to you.” "Well if they wont listen to reason will they at least hear me out?" “What could you possibley have to say to them? Are you thinking about joining us?” "I will be the judge of that. When we land I would like to speak with my captors" They sat in silence for the next few minutes. Suddenly, the shuttle shook and sparks flew from the console. Sarah uttered a swear word and began to lock onto the firing ship and unleashed a volley of phaser fire in the advancing ships direction. "What the hell was that? Why is your ship firing on us?" he yelled. “That isn't my ship!” she yelled back. "Oh, that's the Nighthawk, looks like Captain Capps sent in the marines!" “Bring them on!” she yelled as she turned the shuttle around and began to power up the phasers again. She was utterly focused on her job now, to protect the shuttle and get it to Toulin in one piece. "Becks, you don't want to take those marines on, you must have made the captain very angry for him to send the marines out. I sugges....." More fire from the oncoming ship. A lucky volley took out their manouvering capabilities and, in anger, Becks hit the control panel and roared. Suddenly, an idea entered her mind. "I suggest we lower the shields and beam over to the Nighthawk." She glared at him and said, “I don't think so, how stupid do you think I am to beam onto a ship full of marines that want my head!” "We don't have time to argue about it. I'm sure being detained is better an being dead." She sighed and nodded, “I agree, whole heartedly.” She turned back to the console and began to put her idea into action. She heard him walk to the transport unit and she turned to join him as he said, "Computer activate emergency transporter unit." As her body dematierialised and then reconstituted, she felt instantly better as they saw the bridge of the Broken Wing. Toulin stood from the captain's chair in surprise and she said, “Honey, I'm home.” Smiling widely, she turned to Jacobs and said, “Welcome to the Broken Wing.” She slung a punch and felt her fist connect with his jaw. As he fell to his knees, Becks turned to one of the other crew and said, “Get that...” She spat at him, “.... into the brig.” She saw the crew man exchange a look with Toulin. He nodded and she watched as Jacobs was dragged away. Turning back to Toulin, she said, “Sir, the ship that was firing on the shuttle is full of marines.” (Reply Toulin) “I have an idea. Let's take control of the shuttle remotely and send it on a collision course with their ship. Give them something to keep them occupied for a few minutes and then have one of the others come from behind and take out their weapons and propulsion.” (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 1435) The Captain sat in the center chair of the bridge. He watched as the stars streaked by. There were beeps and boops from the consoles stationed around the bridge. Officers and Crewmen entered and left the bridge at a briskly pace. Calvin played out several different scenarios in his head as all the preparations were being handled. Every now and again he would have to directly handle a certain task. "Captain," the conn officer began. "We will be dropping out of emergency warp in 30 seconds." "Very well. Captain Capps to Major Kilowa, prepare to launch immediately," Captain Capps reported. =/\=Aye sir, we are a go!=/\= Major Kilowa said with an excited tone. The ship's vibration changed slightly as it began to drop out of warp. The Captain continued to sit in his chair. The image on the view screen turned from white streaks to an asteroid belt. "Begin tracking the Cartecay's flight path and send it directly to the Nighthawk." The team had taken an educated guess that the same mines used to trap the Boudicca earlier may be in use as a perimeter defense. The Nighthawk would follow the path the Cartecay took and hopefully it is able to pass through. The Boudicca had a bit more risky plan to enter to the inner perimeter. They would also follow behind Nighthawk. It was expected that one path for large and small ships would follow the same path. If the Nighthawk got hit then the Boudicca would know to stop and if the Bouddica did get hit the crew established earlier that it could survive a few of them. "Deploy the Nighthawk and follow," Captain Capps ordered. It only took seconds for the Nighthawk to follow orders and for the Boudicca to take up its tail. "Mr. Trei, bring weapons to hot." Calvin followed his previous order. Shields were already up and the crew was already at battle stations. (reply Trei) It was easy to tell when the two ships were going through the maze of mines. The Boudicca was going in odd motions and following strange curves. It was definitely a specific path that was to keep unwanted guests out. It would seem though that the Boudicca's crew had done an excellent job. "Major Kilowa has reported that they have spotted the Cartecay. They are breaking off to engage," the ops officer reported. He paused for a quick breath and continued, "the Broken Wing has spotted us. It is moving in an attack formation." "Do we have any armament information on that ship?" Captain Capps belted. An engineering crewmen spoke from the back. "Sir, the size of the ship is about equal to a Defiant class but its armament and shields are half the power. We should be okay." As the last sentence flowed from the engineer the Captain could hear the intensity raise on the bridge. The operations officer spoke again. "Sir, we are reading not 1 but 4 of those ships. All in an attack posture. It looks like Toulin's ship is in the lead position." "Very well. Pattern delta six, manuever C-1. Mr. Trei lets see what you got!" (posted by Calvin Capps) (Shuttlecraft Cartecay –aOPs Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn - 1435) Deynyk had started to make his way towards the crawlspace access point at the aft of the ship before there everything fell apart. He had just opened the access hatch when he heard the sound of the transporter activating. He stepped into the compartment just as the last of the transporter effect disappeared. He had been just a few seconds too late to save his shipmate. He had, contrary to his normal demeanor played things just a little too safe. "Damn it!" he shouted at the top of his lungs to the empty compartment. He stepped to the operations station in an attempt to get an update on the situation that now faced him. Despite the fact that he had been aboard the Cartecay the entire time, his ability to gather information without tipping off his presence was limited. Now however, he strove to overcome that shortfall. The control system indicated that the Cartecay was now on automatic pilot. To make matters worse the control interface seemed to be locked out. in a bit of desperation, he slammed his hand against the top of the console. another blast slammed into the Cartecay from whatever force was assailing the shuttlecraft. The helm controls in the cockpit exploded in a massive burst of smoke and flames. Deynyk was very glad that he had not decided to take that station. "Come on.... Come on..." Dey found himself chanting as he worked furiously to bypass the lockouts that Becks had put into place. Suddenly there was a chirp and an unfamiliar voice sounded from his commbadge, =^=Lieutenant Rinn, this is Starfleet marine Major Kilowa. If you can hear me please respond.=^= Between the frantic tap dance of his fingers over the keys, Deynyk managed to slap his commbadge. "Rinn here, make it quick major, I'm a bit busy at the moment." the Trill officer replied a bit more shortly than he'd intended. =^=We can beam you aboard our ship...=^= The major offered, but a moment later his tone of voice changed into something altogether different. =^=Lieutenant, the Cartecay is now in a collision course with my ship, why did you do that?=^= Deynyk cursed as a massive series of alarms sounded and the Cartecay changed course so abruptly that he nearly lost his footing. He managed to regain his balance and quickly returned to his console. "not my doing major, someone has hijacked the automated control system used to automate the landing sequences. Looks like some malicious code in the central computer." he shouted as he watched the code start replicating itself into the other subsystems of the craft. =^= Can you stop it!?!=^= The major asked excitedly. "I'm working on it. Put as much space as you can between you and the Cartecay, now Major! I need a little time!" Deynyk shouted as he finished isolating the two systems that he could before the malicious hack of the system was complete. Then to avoid further distractions he closed the channel. He could now no longer gain access to the controls, save for the tow he had managed to isolate. Dey abandoned his station, moving quickly through the few steps to stand before the emergency weapons locker. It was one of the two remaining systems he had managed to keep under his control. He just hoped to God that his second one would work as well as he hoped. He quickly dialed in the codes to the locker and with drew three photon grenades, a pair of hand phasers and a tricorder. With an alacrity borne of high stress situations and a million thrills a minute, the adrenaline coursing through his veins gave him a sense of focus that most people would lose under similar conditions. He moved quickly with his equipment to the transporter platform. He activated the tricorder and transferred the last transport log into the small device's memory. he then beamed it to the Nighthawk. If the marines couldn't figure out that he'd just given them the Shield modulations of the lead ship, then they didn't deserve to be marines. He hurried into the small engineering compartment and pulled the first panel that he could find that led to the matter/Antimatter attenuation coils. A moment of adjustment on one of the photon grenades, followed by the activation of the timer embedded into the specially designed casing gave Deynyk just enough time to realize the sheer insanity of his actions. He thrust the grenade into the gap between a pair of coils and hoping that he hadn't misjudged the transport cycle of the Cartecay's transporter and that they hadn't slipped out of transporter range, he stepped onto the platform. He activated a photon grenade and dropped into onto the platform, and transported it to arrive a few moments ahead of him. Once the cycle was complete he stepped aboard and with a singular force of will and a sense of expectation activated the transport cycle again. (posted by Daniel Greene) (Shuttlecraft Cartecay - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 1439) The shuttle shook and sparks flew from the console sitting in front of him. He flew from the chair and quickly jumped back up to regain his composure. "What the hell was that?" he yelled, "why is your ship firing on us?" (reply becks) "Oh, that's the Nighthawk, looks like Captain Capps sent in the marines!" (Reply Becks) The sensors showed the Nighthawk moving into position for another strafing run. By this time Jacobs had made his way to the tactical workstation. He didn't want the Nighthawk to think they were gonna fire back in any way. That's not all the sensors had detected. It was clear that the Boudicca was following close behind the assault shuttle traveling using only maneuvering thrusters. The Broken Wing had broken it's course to meet the Cartecay and in stead moved to intercept the Boudicca. In tow of the Broken Wing were three other ships all weapons hot ready to begin an attack. "Becks," He said, turning in her direction at the conn, "you don't want to take those marines on, you must have made the captain very angry for him to send the marines out. I sugges....." The sentence was cut off by more incoming fire from the Nighthawk. The last volley pierced the dorsal shield arc hitting the adjacent nacelle and thruster matrix. Power still remained on the shuttle but it was now adrift. "I suggest we lower the shields and beam over to the Nighthawk." (reply Becks) "We don't have time to argue about it. I'm sure being detained is better an being dead." (reply Becks) After convincing her that they needed to abandon the shuttle and avoid further confrontation Jacobs stood and walked over to the emergency transporter unit while she typed away at her console and lowered the shuttle's shield. Henry was very aware of what it took to lower the shields and it seemed that Becks was busy at something in addition to just that.Once the shields were down Henry activated the transporter unit. "Computer activate emergency transporter unit." The computer clicked as it locked on to the both of them as Sarah stood up for transport. The sequence began and Henry stood still as his body began to dematerialized. When his atoms materialized he was surprised to see that he wasn't on the Nighthawk but instead on the bridge of the Broken Wing. (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (Broken Wing - Bridge - Captain Ral Toulin - 1439) Ral was definitely upset by the sudden presence of his lieutenant. He didn't know how he was going to explain her presence. He had already explained to the elders her absence and it didn't exactly involve her ever being able to show her face again. He had under estimated her abilities. Now that she had appeared there was a part of him that was happy. She had served under his command for years with a pristine record. She had shown him that she could be successful with any task. He should not have doubted her being able to break out of Starfleet's hands. However, it didn't matter how high her achievements have been in the past once Captain Toulin was informed of the Keltoi class entering into the bases pathway. Immediately he went into action. "Red alert. Bring power to full. Alert the defense force of an intrusion. Bring us head on to that ship," he said pointing to the Boudicca through the view screen. It had taken a little time for the Boudicca to make it through the hidden mine field. Although it was designed to stop ships altogether it at least slowed down the Boudicca enough for Ral and his fleet prepare for a fire fight. "Sir," a man behind a console said. "A target is attacking the shuttle Lieutenant Becks is on." It was a surprise when the bridge realized that they were receiving a transport directly on the bridge floor. Everyone including Captain Toulin reacted with speed. Toulin stood from the captain's chair in surprise and Sarah said, “Honey, I'm home.” ~Now what is she up to?~ Ral wondered as he stared at her with awe. Smiling widely, she turned to Jacobs and said, “Welcome to the Broken Wing.” She slung a punch and felt her fist connect with his jaw. As he fell to his knees, Becks turned to one of the other crew and said, “Get that...” She spat at him, “.... into the brig.” She saw the crew man exchange a look with Toulin. He nodded and she watched as Jacobs was dragged away. Turning back to Toulin, she said, “Sir, the ship that was firing on the shuttle is full of marines.” "Marines?" he thought for a second. It seemed he wasn't as familiar with Starfleet's types of soldiers as Becks was. He wasn't for sure how he was supposed to react to her information. “I have an idea. Let's take control of the shuttle remotely and send it on a collision course with their ship. Give them something to keep them occupied for a few minutes and then have one of the others come from behind and take out their weapons and propulsion.” She was of course referring to the Nighthawk and the Cartecay. Ral knew even though she had put him in such a hard place he could trust her judgement. "Make it work," Ral said as he watched Becks work the console in front of her. (reply Becks) Toulin looked at the view screen as her plan went into affect. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Bridge- TAC/S ENS(SG) Detron Trei - 14.40) The order came down to arm the weapons. He gladly executed that order for he was always ready to rock and roll. "Understood sir. Ready to fire on your order sir." He saw as the Boudicca came through the asteroid field to find The Broken Wing being flanked by 4 other ships in their class of ship. CPT Capps ordered Delta weapons spread. He initiated the order as phasers and torpedoes deployed in the spread formation on all opposing ships. He targeted The Broken Wing with a few direct hits disabling the ship. A few precise shots did the same to the others. "The Broken Wing is disabled a s well as the other ships sir. There are signs that Becks transported over to the Broken wing with Jacobs. What are your orders sir." (posted by Edward Engel) (Broken Wing - Bridge – Lieutenant Sarah Becks - 1440) "Make it work," he said, as she nodded. “I always do.” She smiled her reply and then began to access the shuttle’s controls. Turning it from it’s current course, she tapped in the new heading towards the ship that had been attacking them. A few anxious minutes went by as the shuttle continued on it’s course and then stopped. Roaring with fury, she leapt from her seat and ran to the security console. “God damn, there’s someone else on that….” Suddenly, the whine of a transporter filled her ears as she ducked behind the console. A pulse of energy knocked out a lot of the bridge crew and she spotted one of them fall by her. Reaching out for his phaser rifle, she popped her head over the console and took aim. ~Lord can we not catch a break~ she thought to herself as more transport beams began to materialise. The situation had gone from bad to worse. She knew that she only had a split second to make a plan and, then, suddenly, she had it. Diving for the transport lift, she closed the door behind her as the marines filled the bridge. “Brig.” She said simply and fell back against the wall. ~How did this happen? No matter, if they want him back that badly they can have him~ she thought to herself as the lift hummed its course. As the doors opened, she picked herself up and ran the full length of the corridor to the brig. Pushing past the guard, she yelled, “Everyone out! NOW!”. Those that were in the room, left. Quickly and quietly. (Reply Jacobs) Sarah glared at him as she held the rifle towards him and opened his cell. “Out or do I have to come in there and make you?” (Reply Jacobs) She watched as he walked towards her. Smiling, she said, “I’m surprised at you, Mr Jacobs. I was hoping you’d put up more of a fight.” And fired the phaser. He dropped to the floor, stunned. Sighing, she grabbed the medical bag from behind the security console and got to work. Looks like some malicious code in the central computer=/\= Lieutenant Rinn shouted. "Can you stop it!?!" The major asked excitedly. =/\=I'm working on it. Put as much space as you can between you and the Cartecay, now Major! I need a little time!=/\= Deynyk shouted again. The com closed, but Joel didn't skip a beat. He looked at the marine pilot waiting for his orders. "You heard him, get us away from the Cartecay!" The major said with a growl. The pilot raced his fingers across the board. Multiple but simple commands entered into the computer system. The Nighthawk immediately began to turn on its axis and move away at best speed from the oncoming shuttle. A small amount of time passed when suddenly a small device beamed on the floor of the shuttle. Joel cautiously moved over to what he now saw was a tricorder. He picked up the standard Starfleet device with curiosity. Knowing how to work the tricorder he opened it up. As the information stored on it made sense to him a large bright light caught his gaze. The major looked outside the window and saw the Cartecay in pieces. It made sense now what the ops officer plan was. Joel was convinced that Lieutenant Rinn was mad! But as the plan was clear to him, he wanted Deynyk risk to pay off. He handed the tricorder over to the pilot. "Upload this information and send it to the Boudicca. Request immediate reinforcement." Joel then turned to the two marines he brought with him. "We are headed out. Weapons hot!" This is what the major lived for. He readied himself. He took out a nice size rifle and checked it over quickly. "Beam us directly to the Broken Wing," Joel ordered. The transporter took a hold of him and the other two marines. There was no turning back now. Their lives were in a hot mess. (posted by Calvin Capps) (Shuttle Nighthawk - Main Compartment - Major Joel Kilowa - 1442) The major was standing behind the pilot seat. He preferred to look out actual windows rather than sticking his nose in a console. It had not taken long for the pilot to expertly fly exactly to the coordinates he received from the Boudicca. Shortly after the Nighthawk cleared the hidden mine field the computer alerted the pilot of the Cartecay's location. "Sir, the Cartecay it is nearby." "Lets go!" the major yelled. Joel then turned his attention to the AI system. He wanted to just shake up the Cartecay and disable it so he could beam his man onto the Nighthawk. It would be a quick decision as to what to do with the Cartecay and the woman inside of it after that. "Weapons ready," the major said with a smile. "Take us into firing range." "Aye sir," the pilot said with a calm voice. His fingers ran over his board with ease. No sound existed inside of the shuttle at this point. The engines hummed faintly. The AI system would do half the work now and the pilot was focused on his duty. Major Kilowa and the other two marines had to sit back, shut up, and be ready for whatever was coming. When the Nighhawk finally decided to fire, the sound of the weapons could be heard. Seconds passed before the computer came to life with a report. [Direct hit on target. Shields lowering at 7.25 percent over 5 second intervals.] The marines in the back let go of a deep breath. It would seem that this mission might be easier than they originally thought. Joel still wanted to go in for another run. "Let's go at it again!" The marine pilot expertly adjusted his coordinates into the system and decided on another attack formation toward the Cartecay. With the plot and maneuver entered the Nighthawk took off. Once again the marine shuttle's weapons open fired. Seconds went by before the computer announced the results of its perfect aiming ability. [Target ship's maneuvering ability disabled.] Everyone on the Nighthawk knew they had won the battle, but the pilot's news told everyone that Becks was one hard lady to catch. "Sir, before I could beam Ensign Jacobs over he was beamed along side with Becks onto the Broken Wing." Joel said a few explicit words under his breath. "Report back to the Boudicca." It would be too dangerous for them to return to the Boudicca now but maybe they could help the Boudicca by being a little live bait. "Sir," the pilot officer came back. "I am reading another life form on the Cartecay." The pilot paused and looked at his console with a puzzled expression. "Its Lieutenant Rinn sir." Joel pushed a button nearby, "Lieutenant Rinn, this is Starfleet marine Major Kilowa. If you can hear me please respond." (reply Rinn) It took some time before a reply came back, but one did. "We can beam you aboard our ship..." The major couldn't believe if he hadn't been watching it in front of him. "Lieutenant, the Cartecay is now in a collision course with my ship, why did you do that?" (reply Rinn) "Can you stop it!" the major finished. (posted by Calvin Capps) (Oblivion –aOPs Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn - 1442) Deynyk had always been told that when you are in transport that every molecule and energy signature that comprises your being is suspended by the process, yet for the very first time in his existence, it seemed to Deynyk that every molecule of his body was vibrating in tune with the universe as he put his suicidal mission into action. There were a million things that could go wrong and prevent Deynyk from ever returning to the universe that he had come to know and love. If the Grenade in the warp attenuators detonated too early; if the Cartecay had moved too far from the Broken Wing to allow him to beam aboard; if the shield modulations had been changed after Becks had materialized; If the photon grenade with its stun setting failed to be effective; or finally if the Marines didn't manage to follow his lead and back him up when he arrived on the bridge of the Broken wing. Even Deynyk, the thrill seeker extraordinaire realized that this was one risk that was likely to be the last one he ever took. there were so many factors that all had to line up exactly the right way in the right order to allow him to pull this off, even if only for a few moments. Becks had made one fatal mistake in her escape, she had failed to clear her transporter settings, which intrinsically contained the shield modulation of the broken wing, her destination. That log had now been sent to the marines, who Deynyk hoped had enough training to realize what they had been handed. He depended on them to beam in and support his assault, despite its absolute insanity. Of course all of that would be moot if the transport cycle took too long to complete. If it was, then Deynyk would be scattered across the universe as a burst of incoherent molecules that wouldn't feel anything. On the other end of the spectrum, if the grenade he had left behind failed to destroy the attenuation coupling as he thought it should, the Cartecay would ram the nighthawk, killing the very marines that he needed to back him up in his forlorn hope. And that was just the beginning. If the shields had been remodulated, he'd not get very far and end up on the sabotaged runabout. If he did arrive, there would be no guarantee that the photon grenade would detonate as planned, or if it did that it would be enough to help even the odds in his favor. Any concerted defense at his destination point could very well mean the end of everything. These were the thoughts that filled his discombobulated mind as the transporter ripped his molecules apart; streamed them into a coherent energy stream and sent them hurling at warp speed towards the bridge of the Broken Wing. (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - Captain Calvin Capps - 1443) The Boudicca moved into its correct assault position and Ensign Trei laid down his fire. Watching on the large screen in front of him, Calvin admired the site as the torpedoes and phasers hit their targets. Once again, the Captain was glad he had been handed one of the best crew in the fleet. In 24 hours they had overcome more than what others in Starfleet will ever think about doing. It still wasn't over, Calvin believed that one more blast like that and the Boudicca will have disabled the enemy ships. "Disable their weapons and propulsion system Mr. Trei." The Captain once again watched as his crew maneuvered the ship with ease into the best possible tactical combat stance and the weapons fired at the perfect opportune time. "The Broken Wing is disabled as well as the other ships sir. There are signs that Becks transported over to the Broken wing with Jacobs. What are your orders sir." Before Calvin could give new orders a transmission came through from the Marine drop-shuttle. =/\=Nighthawk to Boudicca.=/\= "Go ahead Nighthawk," the Captain answered with a calm voice. =/\=I am sending you information that will allow you to beam directly to the Broken Wing's bridge. Major Kilowa and his team has already beamed over. Oh, and so has Lieutenant Rinn.=/\= ~Lieutenant Rinn!~ He quickly put his curiosity aside and focused on the direct issue. "Thank you, Boudicca out." Calvin took all the pieces of the puzzle and rearranged them in his head. He was certain that Kilowa and maybe even Deynyk had already taken care of the bridge crew. This was now a clean up job. "Ensign Trei, beam over to the Broken Wing and help secure it. Major Kilowa is still there so he is in charge. I will be sending more reinforcements after you." (posted by Calvin Capps) (Broken Wing - Bridge - Captain Ral Toulin - 1445) There was simply just too much happening at once, and although he was the commanding officer on his ship; he wasn't a professional. He had no merits or qualifications that could compare to a Starfleet officer. He had never been trained, but raised to his position through experience and a little underhanded trickery. So when it came to fighting a Federation ship and all of its trained crew members; the Broken Wing really had no chance. Ral could no longer hide behind his simple tricks and traps. And to top the sundae, his former lieutenant continued to surprise Ral by beaming aboard with her prisoner as he attempted to lead an assault on the Boudicca. Only an hour ago Captain Toulin believed that he was master of his arena. That he had gotten away again with theft and provided for the colony and the elders. But, to his astonishment moments ago his engineering team had reported the Boudicca expertly destroyed their drive and weapon systems. It had been a short battle and it wasn't even a tactical one. He simply could not maneuver his ship and an assault team. The other three ships that were following his orders concluded in the same fate as the Broken Wing. Ral was lost, his mind was simply giving up. It occurred to him that it wasn't him overall these years that was a great commander, but it was Becks who fed him the right decisions. The sound of another transport echoed through the bridge. He turned to look where on the bridge it was coming from. It took only a second for him to find the small item, and he instantly began to turn and run. It was too late however, the flash and sound of the grenade flooded his eye sight and popped his ear drums. The overwhelming sensation of it all drew an empty blackness to him. It was over, his body had quit trying. It was tired from all the years of raiding, lying, fighting, and overall deviousness. Ral allowed his body to go into its slumber, he wasn't for sure if he shut his eyes or he could no longer see. He felt his body hit the floor with a thud, but it didn't hurt. He could hear nothing but a high pitch ringing, maybe it was phaser fire and screams, but it all didn't matter. And then it was all gone...nothing. (posted by Calvin Capps) (Broken Wing - Bridge –aOPs Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn - 1446) Deynyk materialized just in time to be missed by the pulse of the photon grenade as it detonated on the bridge of the Broken Wing. If he had been any further reconstructed, he may well have collapsed as the pulse of the grenade overwhelmed his nervous system. On the other end of the spectrum if he had been too later, there was a chance that some of his molecules could have been scrambled by the energy pulse as he was reforming. Annular confinement fields work only so well. As it was, the fates had consigned their favor to his endeavor. He had materialized at just the right moment; neither too early nor too late. He watched with quickly forming eyes as members of the ship's bridge crew collapsed from the blast. The wave of energy was enough to stun even the most resilient Klingon warrior. That's why the marines carried them and why they had become standard equipment in weapons lockers during the civil war. He was forced to stand still for an almost agonizing number milliseconds as the process finished reforming him and the annular confinement beam disappeared. The tension of his muscles unwound instantly, which in retrospect was a good thing. A beam of energy sliced through the space that he had been occupying just a few moments before. He landed hard on the deck, tucking his body into a tight roll, trying to stay mobile. another beam lanced out, scoring the deck plating to his immediate left. The captain and a few others seemed to have been protected by the general shape and design of the bridge stations. But for every one that was still standing, there were a even more that had succumbed to his trap. He raised his phaser, and squeezed the firing stud. The angry red beam shot across the distance between him and one of the bridge crew. The blast caught the crewmember in the center of the chest. He flew backwards under the force of the beam. As he slammed into the bulkhead behind him, another red beam passed by Deynyk's left arm. The super heated plasma beam instantly melted his uniform tunic covering that arm, and the thermal inequality blistered and blackened the flesh that lay beneath. The adrenalin was in overdrive, pushing his heart rate and respiration to the pinnacle of his athletic conditioning. Endorphins made him stronger, faster and dulled the searing pain that haunted the edge of his conscious mind. He burst forward, the tightened spring-like muscles unwinding as he leapt behind a console. Three angry beams lanced out after him. They gouged thick melting pits of polymers, plastics and metal as they intersected the console. Deynyk twisted and rolled out from behind the console, firing as he moved. His beam caught one of the crew in the face. The energy discharge was enough to toss him violently backwards with enough force to make him more reminiscent of a rag-doll rather than a living being. He acquired another target and dropped her with the same amount of skill. Then there was a burning in his back as an enemy beam struck him. He staggered tried to turn and bring his weapon around; tried to defend himself from further injury. He spotted Becks and knew that she had the drop on him. Then he heard it. The high pitched whine of federation transporters. A series of bright lights began to form into the vague outline of Starfleet marines. They'd made it after all. (posted by Daniel Greene) (Broken Wing - Bridge - Major Joel Kilowa - 1448) The transporter beam let loose and that was the same thought Kilowa had. He took no time in raising his weapon to fire at enemy targets. The two marines that were now to his sides did the same. Although he fired multiple shots, and some were toward the woman he knew as Becks, the fire fight was over fairly fast. It looked like some one, Joel guessed Lieutenant Rinn, had already cleaned house. Many bodies were just laying on the floor as if they had been dazed or knocked out. "Hand cuff'em all!" Joel cried out to the two marines. The major looked around and noticed with interest that Becks was not among them. He searched through the bodies laying on the floor and did notice one man however. The man that had called himself, Captain Toulin. Major Kilowa picked the body up and placed it on to a nearby chair. After the cuffs were successfully placed on him another round of marines and Boudicca's security personnel beamed aboard. Everyone knew what to do. It was now time to take complete control of the ship. The major saw his best men were already giving orders and on the job. He needed to check on Deynyk and see if they could find Becks. He looked around and saw the Lieutenant sitting on the floor. He rushed over. "How do you feel?" Joel began but hopped the small talk would be short. (reply Rinn) "Doesn't look that bad to me. If you can get up and grab a weapon, lets go catch lady love," the major followed up as he was looking at the hit from Becks weapon. (reply Rinn, assuming a yes) He held his hand out to help Deynyk up. He handed his rifle over to the fleeter and then took out his personal sidearm. He smiled, he knew what he was about to do was going to be fun! (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/S ENS(SG) Detron Trei - 14.50) He watched his monitor as he shot specific locations on the enemy ships. One shot after another he pressed the fire button with a certain zealot glee that he was inflicting as much pain as he wished to deal out on the enemy ships especially The Broken Wing. He remembered back to the Academy when they had to do target training and combat training. Most cadets disliked target training because of the precision it usually required to receive a superior rank. He was always excited with the challenge. Back to action, he sent out some angry laded lazers disabling the enemy maneuvering ability and seriously damaging their shields. (posted by Edward Engel) (Broken Wing - Bridge - aOPs Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn - 1450) Why Becks had not finished him off, when she had the chance, Deynyk couldn't exactly say. Perhaps she had thought it a waste of otherwise valuable time, or maybe she had suddenly developed a conscience. Either way he was fortunate that she had selected not to put the Trill officer down once and for all. The situation seemed to resolve itself in slow motion. Rinn was too excited by the adrenalin rush of the situation to be truly worried, frightened or hesitant, but now that the bulk of the action was over, he was starting to realize exactly how insane he had to be to have made the attack that he had just made against a numerically superior force. The arrival of the marines under Major Kilowa was a relief to him, and as the adrenalin and excitement started to wear-off Deynyk was thankful for the additional camaraderie that the presence of the marines brought along with it. Deynyk must have dropped into a sitting position without realizing it. The burn across his back was beginning to sting and it was almost throbbing in rhythm with his heartbeat. "How do you feel?" He heard the major ask him. "Like I've just climbed a mountain in less than a minute. That and my back hurts." Deynyk replied, "I think Becks shot me." The major gave the injury a closer inspection. "Doesn't look that bad to me. If you can grab a weapon, let's go catch lady love." Deynyk nodded and held out his hand. Kilowa gave him a hand up and Deynyk adjusted on his grip on his hand phaser. "Okay, let's do this." he commented. Kilowa in response handed him a phaser rifle. "Thanks." Deynyk said as he put away his smaller hand phaser. It was nearly drained of charges anyhow. (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/S ENS(SG) Detron Trei - 14.51) After the last round of lasers took out more systems on the enemy ships, the marines reported over the COMM. They reported that they beamed over to the Broken Wing and Lt. Rinn was there as well. They informed of their plan to deal with Becks. CPT Capps turned to him and ordered him to beam over to the Broken wing to secure it. He was informed that the Marines are in charge. That was fine with him. "Understood sir. On my way." He left the bridge on the way to Transporter 1. (posted by Edward Engel) (Broken Wing - Bridge - TAC/S ENS(SG) Detron Trei - 14.55) He materialized on the Bridge of the Broken Wing. It didn't look much different than the Boudicca. His task was to secure the ship so he started with the Bridge. Reinforcements will be beamed over shortly. From the looks of the floor it was cleared out pretty well before he came aboard so securing the Bridge didn't take much. He secured some last parts of the Bridge and tapped his COMM. "Trei to Boudicca. The Broken Wing Bridge is secured. I will wait for reinforcements before securing further parts of the ship. Trei out." (posted by Edward Engel) (Broken Wing – Brig – Lieutenant Sarah Becks – 1501) She could hear the fighting going on outside the brig and knew that they were close. Closing him up, she pulled his uniform back over his chest and waited for him to wake up. Soon enough, he was awake and struggling against the cuffs she placed on his hands and feet. “Morning Sunshine.” She said cheerfully. (Reply Jacobs) Suddenly, Marines burst through into the brig and she held up her hands. One open, the other holding a small device. “Welcome Gentlemen. I would advise against shooting me right now.” (Reply Marine) “Well, let’s just say that this thing….” She showed them the small electronic device that she held in her hand and had her thumb over the top of, “…. If I drop it, will create a little bit of a mess. See, this is a remote detonator and there is now a small grenade inside the wonderful if a little rude, Mr Henry Jacobs. Your move.” (posted by Jackie Smith) (Broken Wing - Brig - aOPs Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn - 1505) The fight down to the Brig area, where Becks had led them hadn't taken them too long. The crew of the Broken Wing weren't starfleet and they certainly weren't battle-hardened Marines. The only real resistance that the team had suffered was to the passage of time. While the small crew may not have been particularly effective tactically, they had forced enough of a delay to allow Becks several minutes of access to Jacobs, whom Deynyk presumed was in the brig. The marine point man, accessed the doors in short order and the marines slipped inside in an equally impressive short length of time. Major Kilowa entered and Deynyk followed him into the compartment. "Welcome Gentlemen. I would advise against shooting me right now." Becks stated. There was a smile on her face that immediately made Deynyk wary. "Give me one good reason." one of the marines growled at her, his weapon leveled against her. His finger hovered just a millimeter short of the trigger. "Well, let’s just say that this thing..." She showed them the small electronic device that she held in her hand and had her thumb resting on a switch set into the top of the device, "...If I drop it, will create a little bit of a mess. See, this is a remote detonator and there is now a small grenade inside the wonderful if a little rude, Mr Henry Jacobs. Your move." (reply Kilowa) Deynyk shifted his position slightly, placing a portion of his body behind that of Major Kilowa. The sheer bulk of the marine served to conceal his actual intention and Deynyk hoped that he could help Henry before someone got a bit trigger happy. Dey dropped his phaser rifle on the deck. He'd need both hands to do what he was planning. Even as he spoke he was pulling his tricorder from it's holster, being certain to keep it concealed behind the marine. "Stall her. I need a few moments." He whispered to the Major. Kilowa didn't respond, but he was too highly trained to make such a novice mistake. Deynyk knew that he may only have a few seconds to work and so got right to the task at hand. He flipped his tricorder open, careful to set it to silent scan mode. his plan was simple. Since there were no physical connections to any explosive device that meant that the grenade, if it even existed at all, would need to be detonated remotely. There was a fifty-fifty chance that it was already transmitting a signal that would be interrupted if Becks let loose her grip. The other option was that the release of the trigger mechanism would send a pulse when it was released. Both were effective, but fundamentally flawed. All communications could be foiled. And Deynyk knew a thing or two about communications. It took him no time at all to locate the constant signal sent by the detonator to the device implanted within Henry's torso. It took him even less time to set the tricorder to emit the exact same pulse at the same rate and frequency. Now no matter what happened, the device inside Jacobs would think it was still receiving the signal from the detonator. Deynyk just hoped he hadn't made an error. "Miss Becks." Deynyk said as he hung the still transmitting tricorder back onto his belt and withdrew his hand phaser. "I'm getting tired of all this nonsense. I'm going to give you one chance to surrender and then if you don't I'm going to shoot you." He leveled the phaser at her. "If mister Jacobs dies, it will be because of you, and you will be punished if that happens. Right now, you're only facing relative minor charges in comparison. If you kill him, then you'll be sent to the worst place the Federation can find. So surrender now, or face the consequences." (reply Becks, Jacobs, Kilowa) Deynyk knew that he didn't need to give her the chance to surrender, but it was the right thing to do. The fact that Kilowa had tightened his grip on his own weapon was a good sign, although the Trill had no real idea what the marine major was thinking. The woman started to move, perhaps she was going to surrender, perhaps not, but that really didn't matter to Deynyk. The very moment that she lost physical contact with Jacobs. He fired. His beam caught her in the exact center of the chest; the stun setting already working to overload her nervous system. It was the moment of truth. The detonator fell from her hand as she collapsed on the floor and Deynyk couldn't help but turn to face Jacobs, to see the consequences of his actions. There was a moment of worry that crossed the engineer's face, but nothing else. there was no sign of fear or concern. Only a sudden realization that he was still alive. Deynyk's gamble had worked. Deynyk lowered his weapon, and pulled his tricorder from his belt. "Secure the detonator marine." he said as he took a step over towards his shipmate. "Henry, you may want to hold on to this." He stated as he handed Jacobs the tricorder. "It's still sending the deadman pulse to the explosive lodged in your torso at this moment. Keep it running or it will go off. we need to get you to sickbay and have that thing removed as soon as possible." (posted by Daniel Greene) (Broken Wing - Brig - Major Joel Kilowa - 1507) It had taken too long in the Major's opinion to catch up with Becks. She, no doubt, would have a trap waiting for the Starfleet officers when they arrived. Sarah didn't disappoint when Joel saw her with Ensign Jacobs. His training kicked in and he immediately aimed his weapon at her. She wasn't at a far distance and the marine was certain that he was an accurate enough shot to do the job. But no matter how much he wanted to shoot he knew that taking such a risky shot would only be a last option deal, not the first. "Welcome Gentlemen. I would advise against shooting me right now." Becks stated. "Give me one good reason." one of the marines growled at her, his weapon leveled against her. His finger hovered just a millimeter short of the trigger. Major Kilowa noticed the voice and wondered why that marine would speak out. It was clear and obvious that either he or the Lieutenant would only be the ones to speak. But it did seem that the Marine did good because Becks continued to speak. Your move." Movement could be heard through the room as each marine including Kilowa became a little more eager to shoot the woman making death threats. But they all knew that at this present time there would be no way for them to shoot and then stop the devastation. There would have to be another way. Being completely focused in on Sarah, Joel almost didn't notice the movement of Deynyk. For a moment he didn't know where exactly the fleeter went until he heard the man's voice in a wishper. "Stall her. I need a few moments." Deynyk stated quietly. ~Alright~ the marine thought. He wasn't the best man to just make up conversation on the go. He was more of a shoot now and ask questions later kind of marine. But Joel had a new respect for Lieutenant Rinn. After all, the ops officer devised a plan to take over the Broken Wing's bridge by himself. Major Kilowa didn't see any reason why he should't just go to the heart of the situation. "Becks, what is it that you are really looking for?" It was more a rhetorical question. Joel continued to talk with out stopping. "I mean, everything around you is falling. What you are doing is a desperate move. If you drop that device or not you will be caught," the marine talked a little faster now. Possibly even cutting off any attempts of a reply from Becks. Joel just hoped he wasn't making her so upset that she would just drop the device in her hand. ~C'mon Rinn, whatever it is you are doing, do it!~ "I think you are a better person than that. Inside you don't want to..." At this point the marine CO was caught off mid sentence. It seemed that the Lieutenant was ready to continue with this plan. "Miss Becks. I'm getting tired of all this nonsense. I'm going to give you one chance to surrender and then if you don't I'm going to shoot you." Joel watched the fleeter raise his weapon. The marine readied himself too shoot. He wasn't for sure what the plan was but so far Joel like it. "If mister Jacobs dies, it will be because of you, and you will be punished if that happens. Right now, you're only facing relative minor charges in comparison. If you kill him, then you'll be sent to the worst place the Federation can find. So surrender now, or face the consequences." (reply Becks) After her reply she made a movement, a movement that would shake any tittering bottle. When that happened Major Kilowa noticed the discharge of Lieutenant Rinn's weapon. He followed suit for cautious reasons, or maybe he just really wanted to shoot something. As Deynyk went to check on Ensign Jacobs, Joel and his men moved over to Becks and secured her and the device she was holding in her hand. (posted by Calvin Capps) (Broken Wing - Engineering - TAC/S ENS(SG) Detron Trei - 15.10) After the reinforcements arrived, he split them into two teams of 4 with one team going to Security and the lead team going with him to Engineering. They will meet at the Bridge when the sweep is done. Upon entering Engineering he discovered a device that probably caused the power outage. It is never good to assume in unknown situations so he tapped his COMM. "Trei to Boudicca. I found an unknown device in Engineering on the Broken Wing. Have Jacobs check it out. It is probably the device that knocked out our power. Trei out." It is much better for him to do the job since he has the knowledge in the mechanical area plus it is his department. The sweep didn't reveal anything real threatening except for that device. He continued along the lower decks just to be sure there were no surprises waiting for him. He was kind of disappointed that there wasn't anything but he did the job as ordered. He returned to the Bridge and met with the other team. They had nothing to report as well which further disappointed him. He wanted to pound some enemy into hamburger then toss some pickles and cheese and grill them a nice char brown with his phaser. Then feed them to some ravenous dogs on Quo'nos for the entertainment value of it. That would be up to CPT Capps. He was sure he felt the same way as he did on the matter. He waited for orders from the Boudicca. (posted by Edward Engel) (Broken Wing - Brig - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 1513) Things had reached the zenith of intensity. On one side of the room Jacobs saw Major Kilowa and his marines along with Deynyk and behind him stood Becks still with a sort of demented smirk on her face. The one thing that Henry knew was that he was tired of being unconscious and waking up to Becks hovering over him. Only this time she had done something to him during his of unconsciousness state. "Wait a minute, what is going on now?" he asked. Henry had clearly arrived late to the party as while he was asking his question he witnessed the intensity of everyone else in the room. Guns were raised and pointed at everyone's favorite bandit and their attention seemed to be fixed on an electrical device in his hand. Henry sat up and noticed and uncomfortableness about his stomach. Apparently Becks had jerryrigged Jacobs' body to explode. At this point there was nothing that Jacobs had to say. He had spent this day at the mercy of Becks and had assumed that her shenanigans were over, apparently not. Deynyk seemed to be busy at work with his tricorder in the corner of the room and knowing him he was probably hard at work trying to undo what Becks had done. There was quite a bit of banter back and forth between Becks and Kilowa. If it were not from the shock of sure death Jacobs would have added to the conversation but his fear of death overwhelmed him at the current. Then without further delay Deynyk was finished with his work and had his firearm raised again. Apparently Becks had said the wrong thing because as soon as she finished talking Deynyk shot her. A similar shoot erupted from Major Kilowa's weapon on the direction of the bandit. Henry watched the device she was holding hit the floor before her body did. Then Deynyk came to check on him and explain what had just happened. He was helped up to his feet and stood before he hit his commbadge. "Jacobs to Sickbay," he stated, "I need an emergency beam out right to Sickbay." (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca - SickBay - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 1527) Jacobs' atoms materialized onto one of the Sickbay biobeds and standing next to it was Dr. Saryn. He looked over in her direction and began to speak but before he could she beat him to the punch. (reply Saryn) While he was glad to be back on the ship and around a familiar face he started thinking things over in his head. An entire day of being tortured by Becks really made him question the interactions he had with other people. "Apparently, Miss Becks implanted some sort of explosive device in my gutt. I would appreciate it if you took it out." he said to her, as he passed her the tricorder that Deynyk gave to him. He explained to her that the tricorder was emitting a signal that kept the mechanism within him from detonating. "How long will I be here, I've got more work to do back on the Broken Wing," he asked with a wink, "Im sure you will have me back together in no time." (reply Saryn) He listened to her and only started thinking about what he previously was. He now looked at her in a different way. He didn't see her the way he had before, or the way he had wanted to see her as they were getting to know each other previously. ~Did that Becks mess with your head that much? You were working on a good thing with Mia~ (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (Broken Wing - Engineering - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 1630) Henry was cleared from Sickbay and made his way back to the Broken Wing to finish up the work that had to be done. He had previously spoken to Ensign Trei about a device he believed to be the same one which disabled the Boudicca during it's first encounter. The room had been previously secured by Ensign Trei so there was no much work to do when Henry arrived. He pulled out his tricorder and began to scan the room. The room seemed to be a collection of stolen and acquired technologies that the bandits forged together to work in cohesion. The tricorder buzzed as it located the main power distribution console. Power was not at full as repairs had not begun yet. The latest settings were still showing power being distributed to the shields and weapons. Typing in a rudimentary command he returned all power to life support and regular ship function. After doing this he saw that power was still being routed to a secondary subsystem. He turned his back to see the other console to which power was being routed. He walked over to the console and began typing in commands to take the system offline. The state of the ship was in such a state of disorder that there was little issue trying to turn off the system. Jacobs completed the task and then called to engineering on the Boudicca for assistance. "Tyler come in," He said after he tapped his com badge, "get over here with engineering teams 2 and seven. I want this room categorized and labelled. Bring some padds with you I am sure Captain Capps would like to know where all this tech came from" =^=Aye,sir. We will meet you down there in 2.5 seconds=^= (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca - Deck 4, Conference Room - Captain Calvin Capps and Chief Elder Mok - 1700) Chief Elder Mok was in fact old for his species. He stood at 5 feet 1 inch. His body was frail and slow. His skin had a light tan tone and wrinkles covered his face. His eyes were bright blue. His head was shaped in a small cone with long stringy brown hair around the sides and back but missing from the top. His ears were pointed at the top. He walked, with the help of what could be described as a walking stick, through the conference room doors and watched Captain Capps stand and gesture toward a chair. The Chief Elder gladly rested his body in the comfortable seat. The two men were the only people in the room. By respect, the Chief Elder requested that only the highest member of each party would be present during the meeting. Even Mok's personal security now stood outside of the room. "Thank you again Chief Elder for meeting with me," Captain Capps began. "Yes, yes," Mok grumbled with a deep but low voice. "It is unfortunate that I am in this situation. I hope that we can come to an agreement Captain." "And so do I. I am very curious about you, your people and your home.?" "I thought you might be. I will try to explain quickly because I am not use to such extravagance," the Elder said as he looked around the room. "I am much more comfortable in my caves." "I would be happy to have this meeting there if you wish," Calvin attempted to make Mok more comfortable. "No!" The Chief Elder shouted quickly. "Forgive me, we do not allow others to enter there. You must be part of us." "I understand," Calvin tried to deescalate the problem before it got any worse. "Please continue with what you were saying." "My people are of many species. All brought here to live for different reasons. We total about 12,000. Most of us know what the Federation is. We choose to live a simple life here. However we do require supplies outside of the asteroid belt. We have a total of 7 ships to our disposal. You have disabled most of them today. Each ship has different tasks to complete. No one, other than the crew of those ships, is allowed to go beyond the asteroid belt unless they have chosen to leave our family. Becoming part of a space bearing crew is considered an honor." "I believe I understand. Can you tell me more about the government and your position," Calvin asked with curiosity. "I do not believe I will Captain. I much rather began our discussion of the true meaning of this meeting," the Chief Elder said. "Very well, as I have explained we entered this space to stop the Broken Wing. It had stolen cargo from us by trapping my ship," Calvin explained the situation. "Yes, you have said that earlier. I will agree to return your cargo to you. But you have stopped our ability to provide for our people by disabling our ships," Mok responded with equal frustration. "We are prepared to request aide on your behalf from the Federation to undue the damage we have done. We can provide support to repair your ships and the cargo that you will have lost. But this will take time for the correct people and ships to arrive." "My people have lived a simple life. We have enough to sustain ourselves until that time comes." Calvin was very surprised on how well the meeting was going, but the hardest part of the discussion had not began. The Captain would not accuse the Chief Elder and their government of knowing about the raids from the Broken Wing. Through their conversation before Mok has explained that Ral Toulin also lied to the Elders about where he received his cargo for many years now. He continued to explain there would be an investigation further into Ral's past actions. The Elder urged Captain Capps that Ral was the only bandit. Their people were of peace and simplicity. "I am very delighted that we agree, but we must request that you allow us to keep Ral Toulin as a prisoner," Captain Capps requested with a sincere tone. "Captain, we have our own laws here. We will administer our own justice to that man. I am afraid we must insist on this," the Elder delivered the bad news. "Chief Elder, I can understand your insistence. But Mr. Toulin took illegal action against a federation ship. I need to ensure that his actions and traps are never to be used again," the Captain pleaded in his own way. A silence filled the room. Mok shook his head in frustration and stared at the Captain sitting in front of him. "By taking him Captain you would be disrespecting me and our government. You will make us appear weak among my people. I do not wish that at such a vulnerable time. However if we were to make it look like you offered us something for him," Mok began the bargain. "What did you have in mind Chief Elder?" "One of your shuttles!" Mok said with no hesitation. He clearly had this in mind the entire time. "I am not allowed to share such technology, it is not possible. I could offer you some of my cargo such as food and medicine," Calvin continued the bargain. "We have what we need. Your food and medicine has no place for us. What we do need is some raw material." Another silent moment as Captain Capps thought about the latest request. "I can offer you 5 tons of raw material." "Your terms are agreeable Captain." Mok stood from his chair and grabbed his staff. "I am ready to leave now!" Calvin stood as well. "Very good Chief Elder Mok. I will see you to the transporter room." (posted by Calvin Capps) (Broken Wing - Engineering - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 1730) Engineering teams 2 and 7 had been hard at work repairing and categorizing the technology aboard the Broken Wing. Tyler had been shadowing Jacobs for some time and he had been learning the ins and outs of running engineering. ~Tyler is really catching all of what I have to share with him~ "Looks like the engineering teams have everything under control here I want you to come with me Tyler. We have something else to take care of." he stated. "OK, sir," Tyler responded. Shifting his attention Jacobs tapped his commbadge. "Come in Nickolas" =^=Nickolas here Chief=^= "Can you do me a favor?" Henry asked, =^= Whatever you need chief=^= "I need you to give me the coordinates of the Cartecay. Right before I beamed off it was adrift, who knows where it is now." =^= Give me a sec=^= Nickolas began a quick search to locate the Cartecay. From its last known position he ran a triangulation algorithm and projected the course of the shuttle. =^=Um. There is no sign of it. Scans are inconclusive. Sorry I can't help anymore=^= "Don't worry about it, Jacobs out." Jacobs tapped his commbadge to end the conversation and then turned back in the direction of Tyler. "Looks like thats another shuttle down. Guess that means when things die down we get to build a couple." Henry smiled at Tyler and then tapped him on the back. "You are in charge down here until the job gets done. I will be back on the Boudicca making sure all that radiation from before has be properly taken care of." Tyler nodded and walked Jacobs to the transporter room on the Broken Wing. (posted by Darryl McDaniel) ================================================================ Hope you enjoyed!
