He had more than enough for one day and Ilana was right, it would be a long time before the computer had chomped its way through the data. “Mei Ling in 10 Forward will take care of us.”, he said as the doors opened, “I've known her for a number of years now.”, he said thinking about how long it had actually been as they headed for Deck 10. (Reply Any, None) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre – 10 Forward - ACEO, Ensign Remae Ktell – 20:50) Mei Ling didn't disappoint and it wasn't long before a lot of conversation, drinks and general talk about anything except what they had spent the day doing was ensuing and the occasional embarrassing story from Mei Ling was making Remae squirm more than a little. Jg. Kurt Palmer - 19:45) The science chief tapped a button at the top of the science terminal twice turned his chair and stood. He took a few steps away and another science officer promptly took his seat. Kurt gave the man a pat on the back before he walked to the turbo lift. He had very little energy left yet several things he wanted to accomplish this evening. "Deck 6" He said as the lift doors hissed behind him. ~Lets see how this holodeck program goes~ (Reply, any) ((Post by cody)) (USS Spectre - Deck 6 - Holodeck 3 - CSO Lt. JG. Kurt Palmer - 20:01) Kurt entered the spacious room. There was a loud hum as his surroundings transformed into a plain room with padded blue floors. across the room a sparring partner materialized. Kurt removed the outer jacket of his uniform. He snapped his neck from side to side and bounced a few times. "Here goes." He approached the holographic man. It had been a long time since kurt had used his combat training, but he figured now would be the time to brush up… who knew what would happen on this away mission. The holodeck threw the first punch. Surprised, Kurt sidestepped and raised his arms. After a few interchanges Kurt found himself face down on the floor, very thankful for the padding. He lifted himself and bounced back up. --- After being thrown from one end of the room to the other Kurt had finally had one victory. The holographic sparring partner had dematerialized a few moments before. Kurt stood hunched, dripping sweat with hands on his knees. Through short breaths he managed the words: "Computer…end… program… " The room whizzed around rapidly transforming back into familiar surroundings. Kurt managed to catch his breath. He retrieved his uniform jacket and exited into the corridor. The cool air knocked him in the face as the large doors opened. (Reply, any) ((Post by cody)) (USS Spectre - Deck 2 - Kurt's Quarters - CSO Lt. JG. Kurt Palmer - 22:17) Exhausted, Kurt staggered through the doors. He did manage to grab a bite in the officer's mess before dragging himself back to his quarters. He dropped a few work related items on his desk and left a trail of his clothing as he made his way to bed. Tomorrow would come too soon he could already tell. He still had to get his surgical alterations for the mission and was not looking forward to that. After a few moments, Doctor Keswick seemed to recover the power of speech and replied that she appreciated Zia’s understanding and said that she was willing to participate but was not comfortable with being the lead doctor. She offered to assist without being the lead and also to help in an auxiliary role. After a little more along the same lines, Keswick’s voice trailed off. Zia smiled reassuringly. They might have the same rank but this woman was new to the ship and Zia remembered all too well how that felt and how long it had taken her to settle in, especially after Oggie had left. She had felt bereft and lonely for a long time despite the kindness of Doctor Noah, who was also new to the Spectre at round about the same time as Zia herself, so she thought she understood a little how Doctor Keswick must be feeling. ~I have been remiss,~ she chided herself. ~I should have made more of an effort to help her find her feet, however busy we may have been!~ “That sounds like an excellent idea, do you not agree Doctor Noah?” she asked, looking at the CMO. She turned back to Doctor Keswick. “Doctor Noah was saying earlier that the EMH would be able to carry out some of the changeovers, and I think if you were to assist it, that would be even better. Alternatively…” she paused, not sure if what she was about to suggest would be permissible. “Alternatively, Doctor Noah, if you were to take over the work on Ensign Grey and the EMH were to assist you, then I could do the lead work on Ensign Stevens and Doctor Keswick could assist me? You seem to get on better with the EMH than the rest of us do,” she added, feeling a little foolish at putting it quite like that, but it did seem to be true. (Reply Noah, Keswick, Any) (Posted by Liz) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - ACMO, Ensign(jg) Keswick Vren - 16:43) “That sounds like an excellent idea, do you not agree Doctor Noah?” she asked, looking at the CMO. Vren perked up and started to talk before she realised what she was saying. "I certainly have no problem working with am EMH. Marto brought one back from her tour on the Hades and you would not believe how helpful he was, I grew up with him and...... Vren tailed off round about the time that it was too late to say anything more or even anything less. Hanging her head she stopped talking for all of a minute and then started again before anyone else could comment. "She didn't steal him honest. When Marto left the Hades they were in the middle of replacing the EMH Mark 1 with the Mark 3. Marto liked the Mark 1, she got on well with him and although all the Mark One's were reprogrammed to do mining jobs she paid someone to copy his program for her so that she could take him back to Bajor." "Please don't blame her. He was more helpful than you know on Bajor. Marto traded medical skills for power to keep him running so that they could treat as many people as possible. You would not believe how well it worked and is still working." (Reply Kirrin, Noah iyw) Finally looking back up at the other ACMO, Vren attempted a smile. "I am not sure what version of the EMH you are working with at present but I am pretty sure that I will be able to work with it. Or if you would prefer that I work with you then fine." (Reply Kirrin, Noah) (Posted by Marilyn) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CMO, Noah - 16:47) "Please don't blame her. He was more helpful than you know on Bajor. Marto traded medical skills for power to keep him running so that they could treat as many people as possible. You would not believe how well it worked and is still working." Noah tried to hide the smile that flashed across his face before he composed him self and looked at Vren. “I am sure that we can over look that indiscretion for the time being.” He paused as he finished a shoulder scale and then continued. “and I sure it was all done with the patients concern in mind.” (Reply Kirrin, iyw) "I am not sure what version of the EMH you are working with at present but I am pretty sure that I will be able to work with it. It worked for me and they both have good heads on their shoulders~ Noah shook his head. “No. Why don’t you and Dr Kirrin do Ensign Stevens.” He smiled as Kirrin. ~I really need to make sure that I don’t get to friendly with Coleridge in front of the others or they might think that I am a bit strange. Looks like I'm at your disposal Dr Kirrin. How can I help?" (Reply Kirrin) (Posted by Marilyn) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward – Bartender, Mei Ling Hikaru & Tommy Tucker - 19:52) O'Hara picked up his glass and studied the contents before asking Mei Ling to remind him what the drink was called. “It’s called V’L’Xian,” she said. “From the P’Raxian system.” Richards commented that it looked like a starfield, and Mei Ling nodded. Tommy grasped his glass firmly and drained the contents, ending with a loud and satisfied belch. His action seemed to reassure the marines, who sampled their drinks too. Mei Ling sipped hers, enjoying the almost peach-like taste with an aftertaste of something more salty. Tommy meanwhile grabbed another handful of peanuts, but under Mei Ling’s watchful gaze this time he put them into his mouth one by one. "He sure does like peanuts doesn't he?" Richards commented. Mei Ling smiled. “He does, in fact he likes most things, although some he is not allowed. I have to ask you not to give him citrus fruit of any kind, as it tends to make him drunk. That might not have mattered too much but he picked up some, shall we say undesirable songs, whilst in the company of my uncle and some of the other freighters.” Her eyes twinkled at the marines. “I have it on good authority that at least one of the songs he knows could make a marine sergeant blush. So to be on the safe side I try to keep him away from the stuff. “ Tommy sighed gustily. He was really fond of oranges and he had hoped that on a new ship, where no one knew about it, he would have had the chance to cadge some from the customers in Ten Forwards. And now here was Mei Ling spoiling his fun! He shot a sideways glance at the two marines, wondering if they might be prevailed on later to help him circumvent Mei Ling’s rule. Mei Ling meanwhile slid a menu in front of Richards and O’Hara. “Can I offer you something to eat, gentlemen? And perhaps another drink?” (Reply Richards, O’Hara, any) (Posted by Liz) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward – Marines, Lewis O'Hara and Paul Richards - 19:53) "He sure does like peanuts doesn't he?" said Richards, noticing Tommy's obvious affinity with the snack. The Bartender smiled and then explained that there was not much on any menu that the Psammead did not like, citrus fruits in particular it would seem. O'Hara poked Richards in the ribs at the announcement whilst the Asian barkeep tended Tommy for a few brief moments. "Did she say it get's him drunk?", he asked, quizzically. Richards just nodded, O'Hara's smile broadening as he began contemplating what fun this little guy might be in one of their mess parties! "Yeah", said Richards, "apparently he sings rude songs as well" O'Hara stiffled a laugh as his smile broadened even further at the notion. Tommy just sighed and then glanced to the two Marines almost longingly, who by then were both eyeing him inquizitively as the barkeep slid a menu under their noses. "Can I offer you something to eat, gentlemen? And perhaps another drink?”, she asked. "Sure", said O'Hara, tearing his attention away from the Psammead and then glancing to the menu, his gaze scanning up and down the columns until falling upon a particular favourite snack of his own. Tomato soup with a side order of bread and butter. Simplistic perhaps but it reminded him of home so with a nod, he made his order, and then settled back into his chair as Richards followed suit and made a choice of his own. (Reply Hikaru) "Listen", said O'Hara, his thoughts returning then to the Asian beauty before him. "Do you and Tommy ever.... I mean, like... party any place else on this boat?", he asked, his thoughts clearly on introducing the evidently fun-loving Psammead and his delectable 'handler' to the lower levels sometime in the near future. (Reply Hikaru) Lewis threw his hands up in the air and made a little gesture of reassurance, an exhalation of air through his lips actually, but that was what he meant anyway. "Perfectly above board I assure you, just thought that you might like to broaden your horizons a little beyond your usual domain", he said, spreading his arms around as he gesticulated to the interior of ten forward accordingly. (Reply Hikaru, Tommy, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward – Bartender, Mei Ling Hikaru - 19:55) O’Hara and Richards placed their orders, which Mei Ling took with a smile. “Good choice,” she said. “It will take a few minutes, the soup is home-made and will require heating up. And the special of the day is also home-made so you made a good choice there,” she added to Richards. O’Hara then surprised Mei Ling by asking if she and Tommy ever partied anywhere else on the ship. Mei Ling raised an eyebrow. “I’m not sure what you mean by ‘party’,” she said cautiously. “I’ve not long been on board so really I’m just getting to know people and of course my shifts here keep me pretty busy.” Tommy just grinned broadly. He liked parties and had some fond memories of one on the Boudicca a few years back. There had been plenty of mayhem and Commander Stakes had threatened to have him shot. It had been a good night! He decided he liked these marines, they were a lot less scary than Eva! Mei Ling missed the grin on Tommy’s face otherwise it might have raised misgivings in her. “I take it these parties are all above board?” she asked. O’Hara made what Mei Ling assumed was meant to be a sign of reassurance and assured her that it was all perfectly above board and that he had thought Mei Ling might like to broaden her horizons a little beyond Ten Forwards. Smiling, Mei Ling nodded. “That’s very kind of you. It’d be nice to get to know some more people – of course a lot of people come here but it takes time to get to know everyone. So yes, provided it’s all above board and approved, I would love to come if I’m not working!” Tommy nodded enthusiastically. “Me too!” he chimed in hopefully. (Reply O’Hara, Richards, Any) (Posted by Liz) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward – Marines, Lewis O'Hara and Paul Richards - 19:56) O'Hara had wondered if he'd been a little too forward at the invite at first, after all, it wasn't the norm to be inviting beautiful young bartenders to the Marine billets for parties! The thing was though despite the reputation of Marine's and their tendency to throw the wildest alcohol induced shenanigans this side of the Hercules cluster, Lewis actually meant it when he'd stated that it would be all above board! “That’s very kind of you. It’d be nice to get to know some more people – of course a lot of people come here but it takes time to get to know everyone. So yes, provided it’s all above board and approved, I would love to come if I’m not working!”, said Hikaru with a smile. “Me too!”, said Tommy from his perch nearby. Richards eyed O'Hara curiously, and then he turned to Tommy who seemed to be smiling, if indeed it was a smile and not a bout of wind, given all the nuts he's just eaten! "Of course you too", said Lewis with a wink, "we'll make sure there are peanuts, and other niceties that a Psammead likes to endulge in", he added, glancing to Hikaru then as though anticipating more warnings. (Reply Hikaru) "Great", exclaimed Lewis. "The first chance we get to kick off some funtimes, you'll be amongst the first to know", he added, picking up his glass and then drinking a little more of the strange concoction as it continued to create patterns that sparkled almost hypnotically. When it did, Remae smiled at appearance of Ensign Grey. He held his hand up, “Sorry for not being around recently and leaving you in the holodeck-lerch. I've been stuck in Engineering the past few days.”, he said (Reply from Ilana iyw) “You look pretty tired though, I'll leave you alone but unless something happens, breakfast is on me in 10-Forward, 0800. He held his hand up, “Sorry for not being around recently and leaving you in the holodeck-lerch. I've been stuck in Engineering the past few days.”, he said Ilana shook her head "It's fine, I had to get through so much work." She stifled a yawn then felt the unusual stretching across her face she was a damn Cardassian, she looked startled at Ensign Ktell, he seemed to be polite enough not to mention it. “You look pretty tired though, I'll leave you alone but unless something happens, breakfast is on me in 10-Forward, 0800. I've saved up my credits on the replicator since we've been running on reduced power.”, he smiling, and turning to head back to his post. Ilana smiled, "I would love to, unfortunately due to," She indicated her face, "We've been ordered to keep a fairly discrete presents on the ship I'm pretty sure a cardy sitting in ten-forward would be pretty noticeable, how about we have a rain check till I get back from the mission?" She smiled, she felt like crying and running into her room again but wouldn't be able to not yet it would never do to let another officer see you weak, her father had always told her. (Reply Ktell) "I look forward to it." She said with a sweet smile, but the surgery pulled her face in odd angles and she was pretty sure the smile came out like a sneer. (Reply Ktell) (Posted by Jo) (USS Spectre – Outside Ilana's Quarters - ACEO, Ensign Remae Ktell – 21:03) “... how about we have a rain check till I get back from the mission?”, said Ilana the Cardassian. Remae did a double take, he didn't notice and hadn't till just then, he held it together. “Of course.”, he said looking at all angles except directly at the Cardy, or her room, or the floor, ceiling or anywhere that was safe, “No problem, somehow, it slipped, about the mission – too much time in Engineering will do that!”, he said covering his mistake. ~ Smooth ~ “I'll see you when you get back?”, he said. "I look forward to it.", she said with a Cardassian smile that Remae found a little unnerving, given the fact that he, a) Missed it and b) Missed it and c) Missed it. “Perfect.”, he said waving his goodnights and departing politely, not overly rapidly but not slowly either. (Reply Grey, IYW) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre – Engineering - ACEO, Ensign Remae Ktell – 21:15) Back in Engineering for another night of darkened surroundings and reduced power, he flopped down in his chair again. Once more, he was going over the results of the holodeck experiments they had conducted, but the results ended up being the same. In a fidgeting mood, he paced around Engineering, checking systems and not stopping his walk. (Reply Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre – 10 Forward - ACEO, Ensign Remae Ktell – 21:50) Okay, so, he admitted it, the thought of breakfast had done it, he was hungry and headed once more to his seat and chair in 10-Forward. Awakening from his slumber, the Captain exhaled and then accepted the call, knowing as he did so that there was no way at all that anyone would be calling him if it was not something important. "Go ahead", he said, the unmistakeable resonance of sleep still evident in his tone. =/\=Kerge here sir. You said to let you know when I had more information on the anomolous readings of earlier=/\= The Captain sat himself upright now, glancing to the chronometer beside his bunk as he did so. It read 05:16, that in itself implied that whatever Kerge had discovered could not wait. "And what have you discovered Mr Kerge", inquired the Captain. =/\=I have discovered sir, that it is not the Rabbit that is causing the anomoly=/\= said Kerge, pausing then as though to gather his thoughts. =/\=It would appear that we may have a saboteur aboard, a device has been discovered sir, configured as a slave and designed specifically to transmit data as covertly as possible whilst integrating with it's master control device=/\= The Captain threw the covers off of himself at that and then swung his legs off the bed, planting his feet firmly upono the floor. "Have you discovered the primary device?", he asked, a hint of urgency now in his voice. =/\=No sir. We only have the secondary device and we are not yet certain that this is the only secondary to have been planted=/\= said Kerge. The Captain paused then, pondering the ramifications, then he continued on. "Have the device examined by Ensign Grey in the science department, I want to know everything about it, where it originated from, the frequencies it operates on, and the last person to have worked in the area it was found in", said the Captain pulling on his tunic and then standing to move towards his desk. =/\=Yes sir=/\= said the Sec chief. =/\=I have taken the liberty to extend the search of the ship and am working with engineering to devize something that might be able to locate any further devices, given it's operating parameters=/\= he added. "Very good", said the Captain, "be sure to keep me informed... and be sure to keep this information on a need to know basis for now Mr Kerge. I do not want panic on the ship" =/\=Yes sir. Kerge out=/\= The Captain then sat in his chair and swung the monitor towards him before inputting codes into the console. The familiar Starfleet logo then changed to show that a comms was being established. T'Vhor hoped that the first face to appear upon it would be Alexanders, and not one of his aides.... (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Ensign(jg) Grey’s Quarters – ACSciO, Ensign(jg) Grey – 05:35) Resting fitfully unused to the ridges both along her neck and back Ilana threw her covers off again, rolling so she lay face down on her bed. While not quite conscious she was at the phase of unsleeping that builds up heat in a pillow, clings the covers to you and generally is more exhausting than doing a Nausican physical training program. She kept dreaming of serpents, even though it had been a full few hours since her anesthetic her stomach still churned, she suspected it wasn’t the anesthetic, it was the fact that she now wore a serpents flesh. (Reply Kerge) It took a good few seconds for her to grasp that this wasn’t part of her dreaming that she actually had the Klingon Security officer demanding she woke. She blinked a few times and sat up. “Wuh wazza huh?” She said before she rolled off the side of the bed hitting the floor hard. Cursing to herself she was glad no one was in the actual room to see this. Fumbling through the discarded uniform on her floor she finally found her communicator. “Ilana here.” She said with a groggy, parched voice. (Reply Kerge) “What time is it?” She asked fumbling around for her uniform wondering if she had overslept, ‘ha if you could call that sleep’ she thought as she dragged on the uniform trousers and tunic. “I’ll be right there Lieutenant.” She walked up to the replicator, “Coffee Black.” [Please state coffee type.] “COFFEE!” She Yelled in frustration. It was her fault that the replicators didn’t know her preference she had never bothered to load up her bio preferences, right now, however, this seemed like the most important thing in the world to do. She gritted her teeth, yelling at the replicator had never helped it was like yelling at a Vulcan. “Peruvian Gold, first harvest, four sugars, no milk.” She Said through gritted teeth. The azure glow and the whine of the replicator filled the darkened room. “Computer low lighting level.” She commanded slowly the glow filled her room. “Right now let’s see what was so urgent that Klingon had to wake me at half five in the morning.” She muttered to herself as she took a sip of the overly sweetened coffee. The rich aroma of the south American been filled her senses and she could feel the tension ease from her neck and shoulder. Rolling her neck she made her way out of her quarters. (Reply Kerge, Any) (Posted By Jo) (USS Spectre – Security – TAC/SC, Kerge – 05:36) Kerge pondered the Captain's orders briefly as he contemplated the device in his hand. Thankfully, it had been switched off now, or at least that's what a nearby tricorder had suggested anyway. Either way, it seemed to be inert and not transmitting anything and the power source was showing zero. Placing the device on the desk, Kerge thought of Grey, not the colour of course but the Ensign he had recently upset in the shuttle en route to the Spectre. The Captain had requested her input and whilst the Klingon could see his logic, he had a feeling that Grey might not take too kindly to being awakened too soon before her shift actually began. Nevertheless, he made the call. "Kerge to Ensign Grey. Respond", he said gruffly. No answer. Kerge then repeated the call, this time a little more insistently. Eventually, the call was answered, Grey's voice clearly still dripping with the obvious tinges of sleep as she spoke. "Your services are required Ensign", said Kerge, his virtual bedside manner leaving much to be desired it would seem. "I have something for you to look at, a device", he added. =/\=What time is it?=/\ asked Grey. Kerge rolled his eyes. "What does it matter?", he said curtly, "it's time for you to look at the device. I will meet you on the Science deck" There was a slight delay then as Grey clearly attempted to make sense of the Klingon's 'to the point' answer. =/\=I’ll be right there Lieutenant=/\= she answered, and then she closed the comms, leaving Kerge hanging, and slightly confused. Now that was more like it he thought to himself, almost the response that he would have received whilst serving on the B'Quaj'ah! ~Perhaps there is a worthy fire in you after all~ he pondered... Not being able to sleep and this was the last straw, I mean... Hello? He checked with the computer, he ran a tricorder over himself, pulled his personnel record and probably used a few access codes he wasn't suppose to. ~ Bajoran, check ~ “Um.”, he said sliding up to the nearest Doctor, “This may sound a little odd, but I think I am losing my marbles.”,he said with more than a little twitch. (Reply from Anyone fool enough to be in Sickbay) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre – Science Lab One – ACSciO, Ensign(jg) Grey – 05:47) “Don’t you ever sleep?” Ilana asked the Klingon as she entered the science lab draining the last vestiges of the mug of coffee she would need another soon. The imposing warrior, one who she had spent a rather uncomfortable fortnight in a type two shuttle with, stood by the lab holding a small device. “What’s that?” Ilana asked her curiosity peaked, it didn’t look like standard federation tech. (Reply Kerge) Ilana almost snatched the unit out of the warriors hand and brought it over to one of the examining stations, she immediately brought up a scan of the device. “It would appear to just be a relay device that transmits data through sub-space, although at such a low frequency you would only get maybe five or six kilometers range from it, not sure how much good that would do anyone, sub-space is best for long distance transmissions,” She brought up a three dimensional projection of the device, “Computer begin scanning secondary layer of the unit, identify circuitry markers, power source and run a cross check with known technology markers.” She turned to the Klingon, “Each species had a particular way of designing something, and in some species like humans there is even a variance between the nationalities. It’s a pseudo science, combining psychology and engineering, I won’t be able to tell you who was using this thing but after a comparison I can tell you who built it. If I was going to hazard a guess from the outer casing, either Vulcan, Yridian, or possibly Romulan, but I can’t be sure until we’ve done the full scan of the interior.” (Reply Kerge) She reached up and touched her face, still transformed into the Cardassian she suddenly felt ashamed to be out in public like this especially under the scrutiny of the Klingon. While it was known in the 22nd century many Klingon’s had undergone surgery to gain abilities similar to the human augments, and that it had the unexpected side effect of altering their appearance to appear more human, but it was known to be a ‘dishonorable’ time for the empire and Ilana doubted Kerge would fancy her mentioning it. She turned back to the image scanner. She began to bite her lower lip as she looked over the spec’s. “If there are more of these devices, please leave one installed, what we will need to do is scan the sub-space frequency, if we do that we should be able to detect the other devices, the frequency is so low that it would barely register on our scanners unless we knew exactly what frequency to look for, it must have taken you ages to find this thing.” She said, “Worst case scenario is they are designed to rotate their frequency at a set interval, so even if we found out which frequency it was using we would need to keep one installed to constantly modify our scan.” (Reply Kerge) “Also be aware of traps, some covert devices, especially Cardassian one’s have in built weapons systems, or self destruct.” She shuddered to think what would happen if one of these devices had exploded in a sensitive area of the ship, or even caused a disruption in the cloaking system while they were in Cardassian space. (Reply Kerge) (Posted By Jo) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - ACMO, Ensign (jg) Keswick Vren - 05:48) Vren was making sure that everything was squared away for the Alpha shift when the Sickbay doors opened and a rather good looking Bajoran male made his way over to her. Resisting the urge to pat her hair into place Vren greeted him with her best doctors smile and glancing at his pips asked how she could help him. The Ensign hesitated, twitched rather badly and then spoke to her. “This may sound a little odd, but I think I am losing my marbles.” Vren had no idea what he meant and rather doubted that lost marbles had anything to do with Sickbay in any way shape or form, but was not about to let anyone leave Sickbay on her watch who showed such a serious twitch. Well not at least until she had checked him out. Ushering him over to the nearest biobed Vren guided him down onto the bed and shutting the clamshell started to run a neurological scan. "Now Ensign if you could possibly think back to the last time you saw your marbles that might help to establish the time when they went missing. (Reply Ktell) (Posted by Marilyn) (USS Spectre – Science Lab One – TAC/SC Kerge – 05:49) Kerge's arrival on the Science deck was met with yet another clipped response from the physically altered Grey, and whilst lacking the respect due of the chain of command, he allowed the omission of his rank to pass unchallenged as he briefly scrutinized her unexpected Cardassian appearance. “Don’t you ever sleep?”, she had asked, upending her mug to drain the last of her beverage into her gullet. Kerge tugged at his tunic and huffed, it seemed to be taking longer for him to adjust to Starfleet uniform this tour and he found himself hankering then for something more armour-like. Grey simply glanced at the device that he brought with him, her eyebrow rising inquisitively, then she cast a glance into his eyes causing Kerge to wonder if she was still bothered by the shuttle episode. “What’s that?”, she asked. "We found it in the forwards launcher section of the ship", said Kerge, handing the device to her as he spoke. "The Captain requires you to examine it, find out all that you can about it, what frequencies it works on, what it does, and if possible, who made it", he added. Grey wasted no time at all and immediately whisked it off to a nearby testbed to begin checking it out, clearly in her element now despite her obvious lack of sleep. Moments later she had something concrete to report, at least superficially anyway. “It would appear to just be a relay device that transmits data through sub-space, although at such a low frequency you would only get maybe five or six kilometers range from it, not sure how much good that would do anyone, sub-space is best for long distance transmissions,” she said, leading Kerge to wonder if the device had been designed purely for close range communication. Grey continued on with her scans. “Computer begin scanning secondary layer of the unit, identify circuitry markers, power source and run a cross check with known technology markers.”, she ordered, turning then to face the Klingon to give a brief rundown on species variation and pseudo science. To be honest, Kerge was lost at the word 'Science', the intricacies of dimensional physics, warp corridors and subtle particle anomalies leaving his warrior brain a muddle at best. Her closing mention of possibly being able to identify who had actually built the device though sat better with him. This he understood... "Good", he said, "catch the maker and we have a trail that we can follow" Grey then reached up and tentatively touched her altered face. She looked a tad uncomfortable with the outward appearance of another species skin, and that Kerge understood well. Grey then explained the efficacies of finding another device, and preferably leaving it running! The security officer in Kerge didn't like the idea of that at first but he saw the logic nonetheless, responding with a simple nod. “Worst case scenario is they are designed to rotate their frequency at a set interval", continued Grey, "so even if we found out which frequency it was using we would need to keep one installed to constantly modify our scan.” The Klingon nodded again as he tried to differentiate the Human element from the distinctly Cardassian one that now presented itself to him. In truth of course, Grey was nothing like a Cardassian and Kerge wondered then if that would work against her when they eventually beamed down. His thoughts though were quickly broken as she continued on.... “Also be aware of traps, some covert devices, especially Cardassian one’s have in built weapons systems, or self destruct.”, she said, bringing Kerge immediately back to the hear and now. "I am well aware of traps and covert protective devices Ensign Grey", he snapped, straightening himself up to his full height. "One does not become a security officer, or indeed a Klingon warrior by not knowing when something might 'blow up' in their faces", he added. (Reply Grey) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Science Lab One – ACSO, Ensign (JG) Illana Grey – 06:05) "I am well aware of traps and covert protective devices Ensign Grey", The Klingon Growled snapped, straightening himself up to his full height standing almost half a meter taller than the short Ensign. "One does not become a security officer, or indeed a Klingon warrior by not knowing when something might 'blow up' in their faces", he added. Ilana listened to him and nodded, “Apologies Lieutenant, I suppose I was being slightly stereotypical thinking that an honorable people such as yourselves wouldn’t understand the duplicitous nature of other races.” She smiled touching her face again, “Take for example Cardassians’, were you aware that about a thousand years ago they were actually a very spiritual people, focused on arts, and had actually acquired, not through military measures some of the greatest artwork’s in the quadrant, all it took was a small natural disaster and the whole species turned into a military war machine, in less than a generation they turned from being creative and artistic to the scheming aggressive serpents we know today.” She rambled on as she worked on the machine, (Reply Kerge) “Understanding another’s mind and history often will help us predict what they will do next.” She said with a slight smile, “Right the computer is analyzing the device I should have an estimation for you in an hour, However remember that even if we know the designer we might not know the perpetrator, after all technology can be bought and traded quite easily, I’m given to understand that your military use cloaking technology, while the devices today look very Klingon in nature, the originals used on the old D5’s & D7 Cruisers looked distinctly Romulan and Vice Versa the Warp and Cruisers that the Romulan’s used to use were very much Klingon. If you have had a chance to look at this ships cloak you’ll notice that it has no similarity’s to either design.” Ilana looked at the readout from the computer, “The device does have a small amount of chemical compound of some sort built into it.” Ilana noted curiously concentrating, “Introducing a stabilizing agent to neutralize it.” She quickly grabbed some tools from one of the science stations and began to scan the unit. “Oh balls!” She cursed as a liquid began to leak from the device she could smell the duroplate on the science station burning as the liquid began to melt through. The acrid smell hit her like a fist. “Computer level two containment field.” She ordered (Reply Kerge) Ilana pushed past the Klingon, almost knocking herself to the ground as she grabbed a Haz-mat suit, she passed a pair of the gloves to Kerge, “You may wish to back up.” She said as the containment field hummed around the device. She watched in dismay as the device began to dissolve. (Reply Kerge) “Computer, transport the device to lab one station two, remove chemical compound, Fluoroantimonic acid, HSbF6!” She swore again as she watched the device dissolving. The familiar Azure glow of the transporter moved the device to the second station. She stood next to the device looking over it, it barely resembled the device from before, now it was a slightly twisted hunk of metal. “Well that’s great.” She said cursing, “It was rigged to dissolve if a scan was done on it, a small chamber of Fluroantimonic acid was placed in the center. As soon as the computer scanned that section the containment field holding the acid in place collapsed and began to dissolve the device.” Ilana paused tapping her padd rapidly at the damaged science station thinking. (Reply Kerge) “Well, I’ll commence my analysis from the initial scan’s and what’s left of it to see if we can discover more, about it, but my initial estimate of one hour may now prove to have been optimistic.” She began to chew on her lip, again unused to her face she felt the small ridge of her chin pull. She pinched the ridge of her nose again finding a deformity she clenched her fists in frustration. (Reply Kerge) Ilana paced for a moment as the computer did it’s work, “Computer who is the leading expert on board in Xeno Technology.” She asked The compute told her, she swore again. (Reply Kerge, Any Science officer,) (Posted by Jo) (USS Spectre - Personal Quarters - ACSO, Lieutenant (JG) Kenneth McKenzie - 06:05) Kenny was drinking coffee and going over his morning report which he had requested, being one of the Assistant Chefs of Science. Since he came to the Spectre he had been taking a back seat at the department. In a way he was happy for the break. Being the Chief of Science back on the Mith was hard work. However, it was work he had enjoyed. Now, being transferred to the Spectre for an unknown time, he felt restless, which was why he had requested log reports to be sent to him so he could be kept updated. It was at lest something which would keep him working. The report he had was last night's report and he was reading the passage about the device found lately, and that it was being analysed by Science this morning. This intrigued him and it was something he wanted a hand it. He felt he needed to get some more frontline work in the department. The report said that Ensign Ilana Grey and Security Chief Kerge? where working on it. Kenny pressed his COMM badge. "McKenzie to Ensign Grey." (Reply Ensign Ilana Grey) "I've been reading last night's report on the device. Do you need a hand with analysing it? I'm free right now if you need the help." (Reply Ensign Ilana Grey) (Posted by Gavin Work) (USS Spectre - Science Lab One - ACSO, Ensign(jg) Ilana Grey - 06:06) Ilana was flustering over the partially dissolved device, scanning the reminisce of the device hadn’t proved useful yet she was getting flustered despite having only been a few minutes since the incident, Kerge was clearly upset by the incident, but she chose to ignore his grumblings, she wouldn’t have been able to know the presence of the acid unless she had done a deep scan and in doing that scan the containment would have collapsed and damaged the device, she should have been congratulating herself for retrieving most of it. =/\= McKenzie to Ensign Grey.=/\= Chirped her communicator She tapped it and replied “Grey here.” =/\= I've been reading last night's report on the device. Do you need a hand with analysing it? I'm free right now if you need the help. =/\= She sighed she was going to hate the paperwork on this later, also it didn’t help that McKenzie was her senior although they both held the same position. “Sir, I would love a hand unfortunately there has been a small incident and the device has been somewhat damaged, although I’ve got a couple of layered scans and managed to save most of the device but the internal workings are well and truly burned.” She said gritting her teeth. “I’m in Science lab one if you want to join me.” (Reply McKenzie) “See you here.” She said, she looked at the twisted metal, she knew she would probably get it in the neck for this, She should have set up a stasis field or something similar, if she had suspended it in a zero-g environment the acid wouldn’t have caused as much damage. (Reply Mckenzie) (Posted by Jo.) He was sure she did what she could. "Understood, Ensign. I'm on my way. McKenzie out." (Reply Grey, Kerge, Any) (Posted by Gavin) (USS Spectre – Science Lab One – TAC/SC, Lt Kerge – 06:07) ~Apologies? And you were doing so well~ thought the Klingon, having hoped just a little that the Ensign might have countered with a blade to his throat or something. Nothing like a bit of raw animal aggression to move the soul after all, especially a Klingon soul! Kerge exhaled heavily and then leaned back against a nearby table, folding his arms as Grey began explaining Cardassian lineage and... spirituality! The very idea that something descended from a reptile might exhibit spirit was entirely alien to him, the Cardassian way was to inject venom, and then crush. Like the snakes that they were... "Aggression is in their blood Ensign, they have no honour or dignity. They are less than Ha'DIbaH and do not deserve a place in the evolutionary scale of any species", snapped Kerge as Grey continued on with her examination of the device, scrutinizing the computer readout and then giving him an estimate of about an hour in regards further information. She did add though that that information might not necessarily lead to a specific person that might be responsible for planting the device, and then came a historical breakdown on cloaking technology as an example. Kerge saw her point and nodded appreciatively, then he made a suggestion of his own. "Organic traces then?", he asked, "are there any DNA remnants that might help us?" Grey checked the results again and then nodded as though implying that it was certainly a possibility. “The device does have a small amount of chemical compound of some sort built into it....introducing a stabilizing agent to neutralize it”, she stated as she began scanning the device with more precise tools rather than the overall scanning unit. What happened then though was entirely unexpected as the device suddenly began leaking something onto the table! “Oh balls!”, said Grey in response, Kerge unfolding his arms and then moving towards her to see what was happening. ~Balls~, he thought... “Computer, level two containment field.” cried Grey, and immediately a forcefield sprang up around the device and it's surrounding area, which now seemed to be melting onto the floor. The Klingon erupted somewhat expectedly as their only evidence began to disintegrate before his very eyes. "What did you do!", he snapped, "I hope that's not going to leak through the decking", he added agrieved now as Grey pushed past him to grab some protective gear. “You may wish to back up.” said the Ensign as she returned to the station and watched dejectedly as the device seemed to collapse in upon itself. "That was our only means of detecting our saboteur. Can you save... anything?", asked Kerge, "anything at all?", he added, hoping now that they had not just lost their only chance of finding who may have planted it. (Reply Grey) Grey moved quickly, her science bent kicking into high gear as she struggled to save something at least. “Computer, transport the device to lab one station two, remove chemical compound, Fluoroantimonic acid, HSbF6!”, she ordered, and the computer responded accordingly by moving the dissolving device to another test station. Grey then began accessing the new data coming from it as the computer began scanning again. She did not look too happy, and the following chirp of her communicator did not seem to raise her spirits any further. =/\=McKenzie to Ensign Grey=/\= Grey answered the call from her Science colleague who had apparently been reading up on the device. The device that now resembled a twisted lump of iron ore that is! She then explained the situation to him and McKenzie had offered his assistance. Grey had duly accepted and Kerge nodded again. ~Perhaps McKenzie will know more about this than Grey~ he thought to himself. Grey then returned her attention to the device itself. Well, what was left of it anyway... “Well that’s great. It was rigged to dissolve if a scan was done on it, a small chamber of Fluroantimonic acid was placed in the center. As soon as the computer scanned that section the containment field holding the acid in place collapsed and began to dissolve the device.”, said Grey, apparently in deep thought now as to what to do next. Kerge was no real help of course, the Klingon military rarely taught molecular science to it's warrior caste after all, but he couldn't help but run the Ensign's earlier warnings about booby traps through his mind. It seemed almost poetic.... "Clearly then, someone has gone to great length's to protect themselves", said Kerge, pushing aside his thoughts, "but perhaps...", he began, pausing then as though to crystalize his thoughts, "perhaps there is still enough of the device left to provide us with clues" “Well, I’ll commence my analysis from the initial scan’s and what’s left of it to see if we can discover more, about it, but my initial estimate of one hour may now prove to have been optimistic.”, said Grey, her agitation now showing in her obvious discomfort of her altered form and for a brief moment, he sympathized with her plight and regretted his earlier outburst in regards the 'accident' with the device. "You will not have to look like a lizard for too much longer Ensign Grey", he said, but it did not seem to help much. Grey seemed to be elsewhere right now and deeper in thought than she had seemed before. She queried the computer once again. “Computer who is the leading expert on board in Xeno Technology.”, she asked. NRPG: Going out on a limb as to what you may be implying here Jo. If I'm wrong I'll re-write. RPG: [The most experienced crewmember in Xeno Technology currently aboard the Spectre is Ensign Llanna Grey] Grey screwed her face up in response to the reply. Next he made his way to the replicator and summoned a coffee. "Computer, Resume previous music selection." Most people found Talarian music to be quite abrasive. Kurt, on the other hand, enjoyed waking up to it. The clanging frenzy of sounds started. Kurt smiled. Then, carrying his uniform and coffee he continued on to the shower. He looked down into his coffee, blowing on it to hopefully regulate the temperature. He looked up to catch a glimpse himself in the mirror, and was completely caught off guard by the Cardassian staring back at him . He let out a gasp and jumped back showering himself and his clean uniform in hot coffee. This was not part of the routine. He frowned and set his coffee down. He pried his commbadge and insignia from the coffee-drenched uniform, before tossing it into the hamper. Kurt let out a sigh and turned around to restart his morning. (reply, none) ((post by cody)) (USS Spectre – Science Lab One – ACSciO, Ensign (JG) Ilana Grey – 06:15) "What did you do!", The large Klingon Snapped accusingly, "I hope that's not going to leak through the decking", “You may wish to back up.” Ilana warned as the acid continued to dissolve the device and the work station "That was our only means of detecting our saboteur. Can you save... anything?", asked Kerge, "anything at all?” “I’m doing what I can Mr. Kerge” She said with a mild amount of annoyance in her voice, this really wasn’t her area of expertise this wasn’t a science job this was an engineering job, her knowledge of chemical compounds and xeno-tech notwithstanding. Grey moved quickly, her fingers flying over the dissolving science station. At last identifying the super acid that was dissolving the device. McKenzie’s call did little to alieviate what she felt was a personal insult to her pride she began to explain the rather simple trap built into the device to the tall imposing warrior. “Well that’s great. It was rigged to dissolve if a scan was done on it, a small chamber of Fluroantimonic acid was placed in the center. As soon as the computer scanned that section the containment field holding the acid in place collapsed and began to dissolve the device.”, ~ How silly I was I warned him about traps built into the device but didn’t think about self destructive methods, at least nothing as subtle as this. ~ "Clearly then, someone has gone to great lengths to protect themselves", as the Kerge spoke Ilana nodded, "but perhaps...", he began, pausing then as though to crystalize his thoughts, "perhaps there is still enough of the device left to provide us with clues" as he finished both he and Ilana looked across at the second station, where the twisted hunk of metal remained, it would be possible but many of the markers that Ilana would try to identify would have been melted beyond recognition. “Well, I’ll commence my analysis from the initial scan’s and what’s left of it to see if we can discover more, about it, but my initial estimate of one hour may now prove to have been optimistic.”, "You will not have to look like a lizard for too much longer Ensign Grey", he said, but it did not seem to help much. She queried the computer once again. “Computer who is the leading expert on board in Xeno Technology.”, she asked. (Reply Kerge) “I would ask engineering if there is any way to do passive scans, or scan for the energy of the containment fields that might help you locate some devices, the problem is the energy is so low that it would require such a finely tuned scan, or we scan random subspace transmissions again these devices were designed by someone with subtly in mind, if I didn’t know better I would say Romulan, the old Tal’Shia were known to use devices with acid built into them.” She turned back to the second science station, she really needed another coffee. (Reply Kerge) “I’ll do what I can Lieutenant,” She said grimacing as she re-examined the device, a new scan revealed that the whole device was now hollow, she brought up an holographic over lay of the device before she had triggered the incident. The door to the science room hissed as another person entered Ilana didn’t look up as she tried to overlay the images. (Reply Kerge, McKenzie) Ilana sighed as she began her examination, “Well it’s as bad as it looks, which is the good news, the inside of the device has been dissolved which means we won’t have any technological markers, to identify the makers, I’ll start a bio scan to see if we can get any more information about who was handling the device, aside from you and me has anyone touched it?” She asked as she began the bio-residue scan, a sudden hopefulness occurred to her even when corroded by acid organic matter was still present it had just been heavily ionized, it would read as in-organic material but upon close inspection it would still be possible, given time, to identify anyone who may have touched it. Her own DNA was quite unique, as was Kerge’s, at least on this ship, that means if anyone who wasn’t a Klingon or a human-deltan Hybrid had touched it she would be able to see at least the species and possibly working with medical might even be able to strapulate the whole DNA strand, a much more effective method of identifying someone. “I’ve got it!” She smiled, then she looked down at her own hands, the greenish grey tint and a flush of horror washed over her, “I’ll read as Cardassian!” She said with dismay “They said the changes they did to me weren’t just cosmetic!” She slammed her fist down on the table, she felt like crying again for the umpteenth time this week, “I can basically tell you if you or a Cardassian touched this thing.” She said turning to Kerge. (Reply Kerge, McKenzie) (Posted by Jo) (USS Spectre – Science Lab One – TAC/SC Lt Kerge – 06:17) ~Fluoroantimonic super acid?~ thought Kerge, scratching his head briefly as he wondered what the hell that even was. It ate through metal, that was enough to tell him that it was not a substance to be fooled with, but then again neither was a phazor beam. The only difference was that the acid was more difficult to contain or direct, and holes in the ships hull was most definately a matter of some urgency! Grey's logic seemed sound enough though, switch scans for the compound to detect the likelihood of another device. The Klingon had deferred to her superior knowledge on the matter and had simply nodded his approval, he would get to it at once. ~Five or Six metres of Duraplate though? That's some acid?~ "My main concern", said Kerge pausing then, "is that we do not initiate anything that may release this acid again", he continued. "Scanning actively for this compound might actually trigger the release of it" Grey nodded, this time seeing Kerge's logic. Then she suggested liasing with engineering in order to scan passively for either the compound itself, or the containment mechanism. Kerge nodded again. "Perhaps K'Tell might know of a way that we might achieve this", he offered. "In the meantime though if you are able to glean anything more from this.... blob", said Kerge, motioning to what was left of the device itself, "then please let me know" “I’ll do what I can Lieutenant,” said Grey, just as McKenzie arrived to offer assistance (Reply McKenzie) A discussing then ensued, and Kerge listened intently, albeit somewhat lost as the subject became ever more scientifically baffling in nature, but appreciating Grey's lead on from his earlier suggestion of scanning for DNA residue to identify who may have handled the device recently. Then it seemed that she had experienced a breakthrough and then a downfall all at once. “I’ve got it!” , she cried, and then no sooner had she spoke, she frowned at the realization that her own alterations would compound the search even more so. “I can basically tell you if you or a Cardassian touched this thing.” she said. Kerge shifted his stance, the news was no helpful. "Me or a Cardassian?", he interjected, "what use is that! Surely if anyone else has handled the device in the recent past, then their own DNA will be present also... would it not?", he asked. Kenny looked at both of the people present and did a double take when he saw that Grey was a Cardassian. He had forgotten about that part as he had read about it in a report and then forgotten. It was a bit of a shock, but he didn't want to appear rude and he hoped that he didn't make his shock obvious. He cleared his throat and stood straight with his hands behind his back, a stance he often took when he was in his commanding mode. "Ahem, yes. Well, not to worry now, it's done." He turned to Kerge. "Is this device a safety issue? I want to make sure everything is OK before we do anything else." (Reply Kerge.) He nodded, taking in the information before turning to Grey "Grey, can you tell me what happened before the device did this?" (Reply McKenzie) As Kerge asked her if another’s DNA would be picked up she nodded, “Yes it would, however we leave our selves open to a false positive, if I scan the device and detect only Klingon and Cardassian DNA, that may mean the saboteur is a Cardassian, or it may just be the DNA from… well me….” She bit her lower lip “However if we did find other DNA on the device then it would point to that being the culprit, however” She realised she was rambling as she thought to herself but didn’t stop, “However this device could have been swabbed with DNA from another or contaminated in one of a thousand ways,” she looked at the blob on the science scanner, “This is going to take a while,” She said frowning, she turned and looked at McKenzie “Have you got any viable ideas?” She ask (Reply Kerge, McKenzie, Any) Ilana began to run a sensor tool over the damage bio-bed, “It wouldn’t be unhelpful to get a person from Medical involved so they can test the effects of the Acid on biological tissue to reconstruct what the tissue would appear.” She mumbled to herself, She wondered if it would be a good idea to spread the news of this device, she shrugged failing all else they could just get the EMH to do the testing then wipe it’s memory after, she knew that some persons had publically stated that EMH’s had developed beyond their programming and were now sentient beings and should be allowed rights as with biological beings, a while back a case had been made for such a system, however doing that would mean that by the same policy Holo-decks would soon be seen the equivalent of slave camps, her personal feelings towards EMH’s were that they were smart machines but no more self aware than a Tricorder. (Reply Any) (Posted by Joe) (USS Spectre – Engineering – TAC/SC Lt Kerge – 07:27) Kerge scratched at his head, his fingers curling into his mane of dark hair as he did so. The thought of an acid eating through the ships hull did not appease him in the slightest, and whilst he fully acknowledged the strain Grey was under right now to come up with something concrete, the Klingon knew it would not be happening anytime soon. Ensign Grey had been right, they needed another device. Surely there were more on board, after all what was the point in having a short range subspace communications device if there were no others around to hear it's signals? Unless of course, there was another ship similarly cloaked and nearby! The notion stopped the big Klingon in his tracks as he entered engineering. He had come here to ask the advice of the CEO in regards perhaps tracking the minute emanations with some sort of enhanced detection, as suggested by the ever resourceful Grey, but now the possibility that had just raised it's ugly head within his mind had occupied his thoughts entirely. "Can I help you, sir?", a voice from nearby asked. For a moment, Kerge had not even registered the young Ensign's presence, but upon his initiation of an attention requesting cough, the Klingon turned suddenly in it's direction. "Excuse me", he inquired. The Ensign raised an eyebrow and then repeated his query. "I noticed you standing here, sir. I anticipated that you might need something.", said the Ensign, an Engineer that Kerge had not seen before. Kerge cleared his throat, and then tugged at his tunic for the umpteenth time. "Where is Ensign Remae?", said Kerge, somewhat abruptly. The Ensign shifted uneasilly at that, and then he looked about, apparently hoping that the man in question might be in sight. Needless to say, he was not. "I believe he is in his office, sir", said the Ensign, "apparently, he did not have a good night's sleep last night and ended up in sickbay. I believe that he is fine now though and currently performing calibration calculations on the recent deuterium storage tank data, amongst other things" Kerge nodded, and then inhaled deeply. "Thank you Ensign", said Kerge, as he turned and then headed to the door of K'Tell's office. Kerge pressed the annunciator, and then he waited. He may have been chief of security of the Spectre, but etiquette was etiquette. Especially when one was going to meet another department head. (Reply K'Tell) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Turbolift 1 – CO, Captain T'Vhor – 09:32) The doors to the turbolift slid shut with their usual pneumatic hiss as the Captain turned about to face them. It had seemed odd to be looking at a Cardassian face staring back at him in the mirror in sickbay, but as evils went, it was a necessary one. The first Moon of Amleth was devoid of all species but Cardassian, hardly the place for a Vulcan/Betazoid hybrid to be walking around accompanied by Human's and other variants other than Lizards! T'Vhor had been well aware of the looks that he had garnered when walking through the corridors. A Cardassian peasant pacing the carpets of a Federation vessel looked odd at the best of times, and the fact that the 'peasant' was in command of the ship was even more odd. T'Vhor took a deep breath in, and then he instructed the turbolift accordingly. "Bridge", and the turbolift was in motion. (Reply Any, IYW) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:34) Exiting onto the bridge itself, the Captain made for his ready room as though nothing were amiss. Indead, nothing actually was amiss, apart from the fact that a Cardassian peasant had just walked onto the nerve centre of the Spectre in the direction of the Captain's ready room. The stares of course were once again in evidence, despite the fact that the crew were well aware of the away teams need to blend in with this particular Moons locals. It just looked, well.... odd. The moment that the Captain had arrived though, Hoshimi had stood from the command chair and had handed off to the next superior officer in the chain. Then she had headed after the Captain, entering through the ready room doors as he moved to take a seat at the table therein. On a starship, certain situations demanded an over-ruling of protocol at times, and this was one such occasion. The Captain not requesting company was duly sidestepped, and the FO had accompanied him anyway to offer a situational update and to clarify orders. (Reply Hoshimi) The Captain brought his hands together on the desk before him. The fact that the saboteur had still not been identified worried him a little, the truth though was that despite the very real possibility that their phased cloak might be compromised whilst they were inside Cardassian territory, they had little choice now but to proceed on. The ship was an hour away from Amleth, the away team had been prepared, and there was no turning back! "Have Lieutenant Kerge post extra security around all key ships systems, the phased cloak being a priority of course", said T'Vhor. "It is imperative that we find our saboteur before he, or she can do any damage whilst we are in this system", he added, his own thoughts clearly on the ramifications of such an unthinkable outcome. (Reply Hoshimi) T'Vhor then settled back into his chair. The First Officer was still clearly unhappy with the Captain being on this particular away team, it was not a formal visit after all but a high risk venture into a veritable snake pit, and the odds of him not returning was a distinct possibility. Nevertheless, Lau would only speak to him, and him alone. The Captain had little choice, and both he and Hoshimi knew it...
