"Sir?....To be honest I don't know what the rumors are but I have yet to see evidence of reciprocation", said Donaldson rather awkwardly. He was rubbing at that damned implant of his again and in Vasilyovna's prior dealings with the man that invariably meant either one of two things, he was nervous or he was contemplative.... but of what? "Perhaps not to you personally Chuck, but I have it on good advice that the Green one is not as stoney as you might think", said Vasilyovna with a wink, "perhaps she just needs a little coaxing in the right direction", she added, almost as an afterthought. (Reply Donaldson, IYW) "Either way, it would do you no harm to try. Your a good looking guy, she could do a lot worse", said Yelena in an attempt to bolster the confused officers spirits somewhat as they rounded the corner and then headed towards the seated Trill Security officer currently occupying Echo station. (Reply Donaldson) Predictably, Donaldson then changed the subject by approaching his fellow Security officer and immediately relieving him of his duty as he did so. "Yes, Sir." said the Trill seemingly surprised now to see both his superiors arrive en masse so to speak. Yelena simply stood aside and observed quietly, now he was acting like a chief! Donaldson slid deftly into the chair and then offered Vasilyovna the seat next to him, which she duly accepted before continuing on with her 'interrogation'. "So, to paraphrase a certain species on board right now, 'your thought's, give them to me Lieutenant'", said Vasilyovna with a smile as she idly began surveying the security logs from the previous officers workload, whilst wondering if it would have just been easier if she had actually been a Vulcan herself. (Reply Donaldson) "Either really, Jynea, the job offer.... it's your call Lieutenant. Talk to me, what is it that's holding you back, I mean REALLY holding you back?", said Vasilyovna. I was speaking as in general, but this party would be a-..." The Andorian was cut off. "I can assure you that if they acted out of context with the reasons for this party, then they would of course face the consequences of such actions," T'Vhor warned. "Aye, sir, but the general attitude of all the Marines is not becoming of us, sir," Khran said. "Rowdiness will not be tolerated Mr Khran, you have my personal word on that. Now please, enjoy yourself," T'Vhor said, and with that, the conversation was over. Usually the Andorian would have been offended but T'Vhor seemed to have a way about him that made him feel alright. Khran helped himself to a drink and tried to enjoy the party as much as his demeanor would allow. She was still in her pyjamas, and her curly hair still mussed from sleep. Michael watched her out of the corner of his eye, as he assembled plates of food for breakfast. He was fairly sure, she was just as beautiful half asleep, as she was made up for dinner the night before. "Tea's already on the table," Michael said quietly, a small smile on his face. Emma shuffled behind him towards the table, murmuring her appreciation, her fingers trailing over his back. Michael brought the breakfast to the table, where Emma was sipping on her tea. He slid the plate in front of her, and took his own seat next to her at the small table. "I don't want to get up yet," she said, leaning against him, her head resting on his shoulder. "We didn't exactly get a lot of sleep last night." "No, we didn't," Michael said, kissing the top of Emma's head. "However as today is a day off, we can take a nap later if you want." "Promise?" Emma asked looking up at him. "Cross my heart. Now eat your breakfast." Michael said leaning back against Emma, pushing her upright in her chair. "What are you planning to do with your day off?" Emma asked between mouthfuls of egg and sausage. "After a morning of lounging around with you, I was planning on grabbing a holodeck here on on the base, and firing up the cottage program in private mode, and reading a real honest to goodness book," Michael said with a contented sigh. "Feel like joining me?" "For some of it, I've got some journals to read and catch up on, and some research to set up, so I'll have to stop by the lab for some part of the day." Emma said, slightly more awake minute by minute as the tea and breakfast took effect. "You do know this is your day off, right?" Michael said casting a mock suspicious glance at Emma. "Hey, science is fun, especially when you can do you're own research." Emma said with a sharp nod and smile. Michael just shoveled another forkful of eggs into his mouth, muttering, "Science Nerd" under his breath. "Computer Geek," Emma said, bumping her shoulder against his playfully. (Starbase 621 - Training Sim - Bridge – CONN – Pilot Officer Smith – 12:15) ~Come on Skipper pull your finger out of an orifice and get commanding~ The bridge shook as the phase hits slammed into the shields. The alarms were screaming and Jennifer had to grip on her console so that she would not be thrown to the floor. “Shields at 20 percent.” Came the cry from tactical. ~Come on Skipper!!!~ “Helm set course two one four mark six seven.” Jennifer pulled herself up right and entered in the coordinates. “Course two, one, four mark six, seven set Sir.” “Well get us out of here.” ~Take it easy Skipper don’t get snappy~ The bridge shook again. “Yes Sir. Maximum impulse.” “They are coming around for another pass.” ~Come on. This is not the time to hesitate~ The shields flared and blinked out as they failed. “Hull breach on desks four five and six initiating force fields.” There was an explosion from the back of the bridge. Jennifer glanced round to see the tactical officer lying on the floor beside her console which had just exploded. ~Not good, not good~ She slammed in a set of combat manoeuvres trying to keep the two faster attacking star ships from getting any direct hits on them but it was a futile effort. “Captain we have a warp core breach in progress.” “Dump the Core.” ~Ow this is just flaming wonderful~ “Can’t sir the release mechanism is welded closed.” “All hands this is the Captain. Abandon ship. I repeat abandon ship.” Then suddenly everything stopped as a voice echoed across the bridge. “What in blue blazes was that cadet?” ~Ow dear she’s in for it now~ Jennifer turned from her seat to see a master chief striding across the bridge. “There were too many of them master chief…” The master chief stopped the cadet with a stare. “What are you looking at helmswoman?” Jennifer got the full glare of Master Chief Sunday. “If that’s what you call flying then we are all in real trouble.” “Yes Master Chief Sunday.” “Get off my bridge helmswoman I’ll talk to you later.” “Yes Master Chief Sunday.” Jennifer stood up and quickly headed for the door as Sunday turned his attention to the unfortunate bridge crew. Sunday had asked her to come and help him train some of his cadets who were doing the last part of their command training before they were let louse onto real starships. As she was on the star base she had accepted but doing sims for the next few weeks was going to be hard work that was for sure. As she left the bridge door a crewman handed her a PADD. As she looked at it she realised that it was an important communication from the Spectre. She quickly read it and her heart sunk, they were off again within twenty four hours of arriving. ~That’s just great~ She looked over at the crewman. “Can you tell the Master Chief I’ve got to go back to my ship, I’ll talk to him later.” With that she left the simulator and headed back to the Spectre as fast as she could. ~This really must be important~ (reply any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - Captain T'Vhor - 13:23) =/\=I'll have him report to you at 1630 hours, do you want me in on that meeting?=/\= The Captain glanced to Doctor Gunnell and searched her face. How would she react to the SFI man he wondered, but then again she probably had had her fair share of their particular brand of nosyness already, the FO however had made it clear more than once that he did not trust Rogers as far as he could throw him in heavy gravity. On this occasion though the Captain felt that it would be best if he spoke to Rogers alone, after all, he knew the man better than most and the last thing he needed right now was for Rogers to clam up in the presence of the very man he already knew held a certain mistrust for. "I will speak to him alone Commander, he will be at the formal briefing at 18:00hrs if there is anything specific you need to query with him", said the Captain. =/\=All right, I'll get right on this.=/\= "Understood. There was a soft electronic chirp and Rogers' comm badge began transmitting a message from the commander. =/\= Attention all Spectre Crew, this is Commander O'Connor, all crew are to report back to the Spectre immediately, and begin preparations to leave dock by 2130 hours. "May I ask what this is regarding, sir?" Rogers asked. =/\= You'll find out then, Mr. Rogers. O'Connor out, =/\= O'Connor said, and with that the conversation was over. Either way, he would find out at 1630. (reply none) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - Captain T'Vhor - 13:30) For the moment, the newly assigned 'Mission specialist' was not being particularly forthcoming with specific details of what they were to expect upon reaching their destination. Instead, Doctor Gunnell had appeared aloof, seemingly preferring to hold off for now until the briefing at least.... or perhaps she was just as much in the dark as everyone else. It was all irrellevant anyway for the Captain's chime had just sounded, heralding no doubt the arrival of the First Officer as requested earlier. The Captain bade him enter and the doors slid aside to allow him to do so, the look upon his face as he did so signalling his clear confusion as to why they had been ordered to duty so soon after barely a day or so at spacedock. The Captain wasted no time in introducing the newcomer to him. "Commander, please allow me to introduce Doctor Samantha Gunnell. She will be accompanying us on our mission to the Zeta Gellis Cluster", said the Captain. (Reply O'Conner) Gunnell returned the greeting accordingly and then turned her attention to the CO again whilst wondering how he was going to bring the word 'Borg' to the FO's attention. After all, the very mention of the species invariably struck fear into most people, the Captain however was typically Vulcan about it. "Take a seat Commander, we have much to discuss before the upcoming briefing and I'm sure that you yourself have many questions as to why we have been ordered out so soon", said the Captain. (Reply O'Conner) "In a word Commander, the Borg", said the Captain, "it would seem that they have been showing an interest in the Subspace river network but for what purposes, we are not sure as yet. She had of course already explained her intentions to the Captain and had implied that she might not actually be returning to the ship in the foreseeable. Right now though, she was within the quarters that had been home for the last year or so collecting the last of her belongings, and gathering them into the holdall she had placed onto the bunk beforehand. Once this was done she picked it up and headed out the door, stopping only briefly to turn around and glance around the place for one last time. Sentiments were for the foolhardy, or so Yuri had always said anyway and standing there looking about only served to prove him right. Yelena had little time for it all anyway, getting attached to places just led to difficulties when you had to leave and with that in mind, she headed out into the corridor, the door closing behind her with a hiss as she went. (Reply Any, None) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Briefing room – Corporal Houseman – 14:30) At exactly 14.30 Houseman entered the briefing room. He carried a PADD in one hand to take notes. This was not the kind of briefing to forget things. As the marine detachment’s lead sniper he was representing the recon element of the marine serving on board. He wondered of O’Hara would come along to represent demolitions but he was not sure. He saw Kowalski at the far end of the room and marched up to him. He saluted and then came to attention. “Corporal Houseman, reporting as requested sir.” (reply any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Briefing room – MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski – 14:32) Kowalski had been busy studying the charts of the Zeta Gellis Cluster, displayed as they now were upon one of the consoles set against the far wall of the briefing room itself. To be honest, the fact that they were even going there had been a complete mystery to the MXO, all he knew was that Command had authorised the mission, set it as priority one and then mobilised the Spectre along with her installed Marines. Indeed, the location had seemed notable only for it's position as the first terminus of the subspace river, other than that, it all looked pretty uninteresting. Why the urgency? The MXO's concentration though was duly broken by a voice that suddenly bellowed from behind. "Corporal Houseman, reporting as requested sir." The retort had been accompanied by the familiar sound of two booted feet slamming hard onto the decking and Kowalski had turned about slowly, the imposing figure of the man they had all come to know as 'House' now standing there at attention before him as he did so. It wasn't just because of his name that they called him that of course, it was more the sheer size of the man himself, yes, 'House' suited the Corporal, that much was most definate. "Ah, Corporal...... Tell me now, what do you know of the Zeta Gellis Cluster?", asked Kowalski, hoping now that someone might actually know a little more than he did about this place that seemingly lay in the middle of nowhere itself. (Reply Houseman, Any) (posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Briefing room – Corporal Houseman – 14:34) "Ah, Corporal...... Tell me now, what do you know of the Zeta Gellis Cluster?" ~Wow Zeta Gellis Cluster that’s a fair bit of travelling must be something clandestine if they are sending us out there~ Houseman paused for a moment trying to recall where it was. “Not much Sir. Just that it’s a long way out about 120 day by the river. Sir why are we going out that far?” (Reply Kowalski, Any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Briefing room – MXO, Major Bruce kowalski – 14:35) The look upon Housemans face was predictable, to say the very least. The guy was a sniper, a damned good one at that and as such, he could pick out the single sections of the compound eye of a tiberian swamp fly at fifty paces. Orientating himself to known references of space however was a different matter entirely and in respsonse to the MXO's query, the Corporals look had said it all. "Not much Sir. Just that it’s a long way out about 120 day by the river. Sir why are we going out that far?", he had asked. Kowalski let out a heavy sigh a frowned his impatience with fleet command in regards all of this. "Command is being very 'stick in the mud' about it all.... the Marine tactical net is mentioning the possibility of the Borg being involved but goes no further than that", he said, a certain disquiet in his tone of voice now. "I don't like it. To recall the crew at the drop of a hat and send us all off to some remote sector stinks of something serious", he added as he took a seat and then kicked back into it. "As for the Captain, he has responded to my own query with typical Vulcan stuffiness and is referencing the upcoming briefing as our infospot..... basically translated as, watch this space", he added. (Reply Houseman, IYW) "We'll know soon enough anyway", said Kowalski as he pondered the situation briefly in the relative quiet of his own thoughts. "Krige has authorised an alert level of bikini amber, special order nine is open and on the table.... just in case of course", he added. The order was rarely called upon of late, especially since the termination of the civil war, but you never could tell when a ships Marine detail might be authorised to take control of a Federation vessel and with the possibility of the Borg being involved, anything was possible. (Reply Donaldson, IYW) "Chuck, please tell me your really not that dumb... the seat is yours, as of now you are officially Chief of the boat, well, at least where security is concerned", said Yelena as she then moved to what had normally been 'his' side of the table. "The hair", said Yelena pursing her lips slightly and then shaking her head in the negative, "you didn't get it right at all, mine has...... more bounce to it", she added as she turned about and then walked out, leaving the Spectre's incoming SC to work it all out for himself. "My office please Chuck, come come, I haven't got all day", she said sharply as she entered the office in question and then awaited his arrival. Donaldson duly followed with a puzzled look upon his face. Yelena offered him a seat, but as he went to take the one on his side of the table, she quickly shook her head and gestured that he should come around to her side and then avail himself of the seat that 'she' normally sat in. “Oh?” Chuck mused quizzically. "Chuck, please tell me your really not that dumb... the seat is yours, as of now you are officially Chief of the boat, well, at least where security is concerned", said Yelena as she then moved to what had normally been 'his' side of the table. “Officially … chief.” Said Chuck. "The Captain has authorized it already, your to take over right away", said Yelena, "as for me, I really only have one more thing to say to you Mr Donaldson", she added taking on a slightly sterner countenance. Chuck took ‘his’ seat and grasped the arms with his respective hands. “And that would be?” he puzzled. The Spectre's outgoing SC then stood and moved slowly towards the door before answering his query. "The hair", said Yelena pursing her lips slightly and then shaking her head in the negative, "you didn't get it right at all, mine has...... more bounce to it", she added as she turned about and then walked out, leaving the Spectre's incoming SC to work it all out for himself. He was a smart guy, it should'nt take him too long to realise that as Chief of security, there was'nt a lot that could be hidden away, and that included 'Holo-programs'. Chuck ran a hand across his hair. ~She’s right … not too much bounce.~ Seeing he was alone in his new office Chuck gave a slow spin in the chair. When he reached 360 degrees he reclined slightly and propped his feet up on ‘his’ desk. In fact, he had been so distracted in his amble that he had failed to notice the MXO's presence, seeing only Houseman's back as he exchanged questions with someone obviously seated before him. "Aye Sir. I understand. Is there anything else before I give my squad the heads up?", Houseman had voiced, the very mention of the word 'Sir' immediately causing O'Hara to stiffen up into an attention stance before adding his own 'Sir' as a mark of respect for his superior... "At ease O'Hara", said Kowalski gazing around the imposing figure of the House currently obliterating his vista before then answering said House's query. "Nope, just do what needs to be done House, you know the drill", said the MXO, "There's a senior crew briefing at 18:00hrs to which I've been requested, hopefully I'll find out what's going on then..... unless of course your little 'eaves dropping' devices have revealed anything else", he added wryly whilst eyeing both Houseman and O'Hara curiously. O'Hara shook his head in the negative, as did Houseman. He had been informed that all the stores that he had requested were not available and had been stone walled for the last hour. So he had decided to go down himself. As he walked up to the room where the stores manager worked he heard loud voices emanating from room. “Sir Captain I can not release the medical stores to you. The six crates of Jellobutine infusions have been assigned to other starships.” His reply was answered with a string if high pitched electronic noise. As he stepped into the room, he saw a human which he assumed to be the stores manager talking at a Breen. A brief smile flashed across the managers face as he saw Williams approaching. “I’m sorry sir I can not help you. Now I have other starship’s stores to sort out.” Not for the final time that day he wished that Betty was still in charge of stores rather then this new person. There was a short string of high pitched electrical noise as the store manager handed back a small device that he had been wearing in his ear. The Breen turned and marched out of the room. ~Looks like Betty's replacement is making waves all ready~ Andrew handed the store manager his PADD and watched as the manager went through the PADD. He looked up and handed the PADD back. “Sir I have the seven crates of Jellobutine infusions, Leporazine, Masiform D and Inaprovaline.” Andrew paused for a moment. “You’ve given me seven crates of Jellobutine infusions. I thought you told the Breen that they were already assigned to other ships?” The manager gave him a hard look. “I’m not giving it to HIM. He strolled through his old stomping grounds, the Main Bridge, and nodded to Lt. The chime to the Captain's ready room chimed at almost exactly the bottom half of the hour as requested and the CO promptly bade him enter. "Afternoon, sir", said Rogers as he rather predictably moved to take the seat on the other side of the Captain's table, before actually being asked to do so. This was one of the Lieutenant Commanders somewhat irritating little foibles and one which did'nt sit particularly well with most commanding officers he'd worked with, including the Captain on this particular occasion. "Have a seat Mr Rogers", said T'Vhor. Rogers seemingly did not spot the slightly sarcastic intonation though and went straight into his usual relaxed candor. "Something tells me you don't want to meet for tea?", he stated. "Tea Mr Rogers?, no... but you may help yourself to one if you wish", said the Captain. Rogers waved a hand casually to imply that he did not require one right now and then settled back into his chair. The Captain nodded pensively. "It would be a start but if what you say is true, and I've no reason to feel that you would deliberately lie on something like this, given your current standing in regards SFI would it be of any use", said the Captain rhetorically. "The Borg are ruthless and methodical in their actions, it would be both prudent and logical to have all the information that might be available", said T'Vhor. "Agreed, sir. It was true of course that the battles they had endured against the 'Zulu Alpha' attack ships had been furious and more than a little one sided, but they had still come out on top in the end. What had he called them? 'little black things'. 'Alpha primes'... The CO let it lie for the moment but they had hardly been little despite Rogers's curious reassignment of their names, how on Earth had he forgotten their designations? Surely an SFI Officers strongest asset was his ability to remember details. "We'll need it," Rogers had said at the Captains reference to the ship having had her teeth sharpened. "Needless to say, most of it will be highly classified, and for your and Commander O'Connor's eyes only, though you'll have the right to declassify parts of it for department heads at your prerogative," Rogers had continued. "Of course", said the Captain, "but you, as the first recipient of any information, will be sworn to secrecy until such time as I execute that prerogative", he added, more as a warning than a statement of fact. He brought up the login for the Starfleet Intelligence subspace network and using a series of passwords and voice-checks, quickly confirmed to the network's security systems that he was, in fact, Lieutenant Commander Brian Stephen Rogers, and that he wasn't being held at phaser point in an attempt by a theoretical enemy to hijack privileged data from the network. Brian began recording a new subspace message, directed to STI's 'real' headquarters on Earth in parts unknown. Brian hypothesized it was likely underground Starfleet Command in San Francisco, or maybe under Federation Headquarters in Paris, but either way, he didn't know where it was. "This is Lt. Commander Rogers, attached to the USS Spectre," he began. "The Spectre has been sent on an mission involving the Borg. As you're aware, the Borg are extremely dangerous, and the command staff here would like all information we have on them. I am requesting that the official Starfleet Intelligence Borg Dossier be secured and forwarded to the Spectre," Rogers said. He paused for a moment. "Thank you, Spectre out," he said, and the message was done. Rogers worked on the terminal, and soon, the audio file was encrypted, secured, and then sent out of the ship's subspace array through to other various Starfleet communication arrays until it would arrive at Earth and be reviewed by the STI handlers. Doc Williams had seemed his usual self, perhaps, just as most of the crew he was a little perturbed about their rapid recall though, after all they had barely docked but then as a ship of the line, albeit a special operations vessel at that, it was'nt surprising by any standards. The Doctor promptly took a seat near to the CO and began perusing a PADD, no doubt overseeing the final reports from his own staff and such and wondering, as no doubt he would, as to what the upcoming briefing would reveal. The Captain remained quiet on this for the moment though, it would have been pointless to explain it now only to have to do so again when the rest of the officers arrived so instead, he chose to query one little snippet of information that had shown up in one of his reports, namely the recent transfer of materials to an unknown Breen vessel! With small but deft movements of his fingers, the MXO then began flipping the metal object over and over in his hand and through his fingers as he breathed deeply, it was his way of focusing, a diversionary toy that he used every now and then whenever he felt at a loss over what to think about. This mission was a puzzle for sure and a quick glance towards the Captain did'nt solve any part of it, all there was to do was wait. Of course, this time she was late, had mud streaked hair and probably smears of mud under uniform from where the quick shower had been too quick. The back of her neck itched suspiciously, but if she scratched it and it did have mud, she'd just flake it all over the nice clean deck. On the plus side, she wasn't the head of the department this time and her presence wasn't as supposedly integral. "Sorry - marine morale issue." She murmured, sliding into a free seat. She'd almost said 'Sorry, taking care of a marine's morale' but *everyone* would take *that* line the wrong way. Like she'd be attracted to those thugs! (Reply those present) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - Captain T'Vhor - 18:05) With the subsequent arrival of Doctor Gunnell and the last of the Spectre's Officers having now seated themselves upon their requisite seats, the Captain began the briefing in earnest, opening with an uncustomery warning in regards security protocol and such due to the classified nature of what was soon to follow. There was no doubt of course that this mission had certainly provoked much speculation in both the Command officers and those serving under them, and the very mention of the Borg's involvement to the CO and FO, did not exactly inspire confidence in either of them either. But who were they to question? If the Borg were looking for a second incursion option, then it was their job as Starfleet Officers to counter that threat no matter what the cost, and with their phased cloak, what better equipped ship was there in the fleet than the Spectre? "Gentlemen, ladies", said the Captain, "no doubt you are all wondering why leave has been cut short and why we have been ordered out of spacedock so soon", he added. "The reason for this is simple, something has occurred in the vicinity of the Zeta Gellis Cluster that requires prompt and urgent attention. At precisely fourteen twenty three hundred hours yesterday, a signal was received and monitored at the Tan'Talus deep space array that invoked a priority one alert at Starfleet HQ. That signal has since been repeated at regular intervals, it's origin appears to be Borg specific but the location itself is of the greatest concern as it originated at the outermost terminus of the subspace river itself.... our own network of movement throughout the quadrant", said the Captain as he glanced around at those assembled to note their reactions. To most of course, the threat was quite obvious, it was clear that nobody wanted a repeat of the Wolf 359 incident, and any sign that the Borg might be making another move on sector zero zero one was anything but reassuring. The Captain quickly turned his attention to the new arrival seated near to him. "Doctor Gunnell here has been appointed as our mission specialist", said the Captain motioning now to the Doctor herself. "Her speciality is specifically the Borg, their strengths, their weaknesses, their hive mentality. She will liase with myself and the Science department throughout this mission and will feed back our findings to 52nd fleet command", said the Captain, "if need be, the fleet will be mobilised but it is our first remit to contain this at the source. We have clear orders to destroy any Borg vessel we encounter 'only' if it is deemed absolutely necessary, our first priority is not to engage", said the Captain. (Reply Any, IYW) "Our mission is to observe the Borg and attempt to circumvent whatever they may be hoping to gain from their own observations of the Subspace network. It can of course be deduced logically that their intentions, either now or in the near future are obviously to attempt incursion into Federation space, our first concern though remains as is. We are NOT to initiate anything that might escalate an all out attack upon sector zero zero one", said the Captain. (Reply Any) "It will take us One hundred and nineteen days at maximum warp to reach our destination, a long time yes but we are closer than any other suitably equipped Federation vessel", said the Captain. No one tells me anything. But Sis you’re the family super spook. You know everything. Jo shook her head gently. Jen that may be but there are limits to my eaves dropping abilities and any way I’m out of SFI. Sis once a spook always a spook. Jo gave a soft groan. Jen if you believe that you’ll believe anything. Now push off and do some work. You know what that is right! Love you to Sis. Jen killed the connection and looked back at her console. Of course she was interested. She hated being left in the dark but just like everyone else she would be told when she was ready. (realy any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge – CMO Williams - 18:06) Andrew’s attention was caught as the Captain mentioned about the secretive nature of the mission. Although the Spectre did go on a lot of clandestine missions, this one had the feeling of being a big one. "Gentlemen, ladies", "No doubt you are all wondering why leave has been cut short and why we have been ordered out of spacedock so soon", "The reason for this is simple, something has occurred in the vicinity of the Zeta Gellis Cluster that requires prompt and urgent attention. At precisely fourteen twenty three hundred hours yesterday, a signal was received and monitored at the Tan'Talus deep space array that invoked a priority one alert at Starfleet HQ. That signal has since been repeated at regular intervals, it's origin appears to be Borg specific but the location itself is of the greatest concern as it originated at the outermost terminus of the subspace river itself.... our own network of movement throughout the quadrant", Andrew tried to hide the flicker of a worried frown which appeared on his face. ~The Borg. This is going to be F*****G marvellous~ "Doctor Gunnell here has been appointed as our mission specialist", said the Captain motioning now to the Doctor herself. ~Depending on how you see it the Borg don’t leave many wounded so I might not be needed too much. Not sure how I feel about that one~ "Our mission is to observe the Borg and attempt to circumvent whatever they may be hoping to gain from their own observations of the Subspace network. It can of course be deduced logically that their intentions, either now or in the near future are obviously to attempt incursion into Federation space, our first concern though remains as is. We are NOT to initiate anything that might escalate an all out attack upon sector zero zero one", said the Captain. ~Looks like I’ll be hitting the research while we’re going there. I’m sure there were some papers on un Borgaphying people some where~ He paused and glanced at Doctor Gunnell. ~Maybe Gunnell may have some up to date information. I am not losing people due to my lack of knowledge~ "It will take us One hundred and nineteen days at maximum warp to reach our destination, a long time yes but we are closer than any other suitably equipped Federation vessel", said the Captain. "I suggest that we use this time to our advantage, it will give us time to prepare." Andrew looked around before starting to make sure no one wanted to go before him. “The Medical department will be ready by the time we depart. We are just waiting for the last of the equipment and medication to be loaded.” ~Now I know what we are dealing with I’ll get a few extra things just in case~ He looked over at Kirien in case that he had forgotten anything important. Freaking wonderful.~ Jynea scowled at the table in front of her, hands clenched around the mug of water. ~Oh, and extra bonus, four months for us to get good and worked up that there's Borg waiting for us at the end of the line! Oh, and not to mention either that come four months from now the freaking Borg won't even be where we last saw them and what limited intel we have will be completely worthless.~ Jynea of a year ago wouldn't have recognized herself by thoughts. She was coming up on a year's service on the ship and the fact that she was thinking intel and long term effects of travel would have shocked the year-younger Jynea. ~And by the look on Chuck's face no one thought to warn him either!~ Jynea realized she was probably shoving her anger and frustration up the noses of those with extra senses, but she was spitting nails and not really too much in caring about who knew it either. ~Time to prepare. She should probably have spent some of that time in a sonic shower rather than hunting down Chuck, but.. She sighed, squared her shoulders and entered the department. The pounding in her left temple had become slightly worsened since her arrival onboard and as such, her quarters and the subsequent relief she would obtain upon arrival there, beckoned with an insistency that only someone suffering pain would ever understand. It wasn't that she was stressed at all by this new mission, to her it was just another day, albeit one that threatened to put the Federation once again in a state of readiness in regards impending danger. No, it was the accident involving the Borg device two years prior, that and the fact that it had been a while now since she had been stationed on board a starship, to be honest she didn't care much for it at all preferring instead the static safety of her lab to the ever-changing rollercoaster of a mission borne problem such as this one. The doors rolled by seemingly endlessly as she made her way along the deck, each one looking just the same bar the numeric designation affixed to them. The computer helped of course, flashing it's blue annunciator along the wall to guide her onwards, but still it seemed to go on forever, and then..... "Ahh, there you are", said Gunnell, somewhat relieved now as she stopped and then pressed the keyed chime before awaiting it's subsequent processing of her unique DNA profile. The door slid aside and in she went, immediately throwing her personal luggage onto the bunk before rummaging inside one of the outer pockets and then heading off to one of the ante rooms to begin the process. The small device hummed to life and then began flashing it's readout until stabilising on one green light, the signal of readiness. Samantha wasted no time at all as she held the smooth head of the thing to her temple and then pressed the button. She sighed contentedly as the pain quickly receeded to near nothingness, then, once the cycle had completed, she returned to the lounge area of her quarters and sat upon the bunk so as to test it's comfort with a few well timed bounces before placing the small device next to the holdall. ~Hmm, should have brought my hamock~ The thought was a pointless one of course, where would she anchor the damn thing, it was an undeniable fact that Starfleet, with all it's advancement in starship design still lacked that certain edge when it came to adaptable and comfortable convenience. Samantha sighed and then leaned over to unzip her holdall, removing her clothing for stowing away in one of the nearby lockers as she did, then as she stood the chime to her quarters suddenly sounded. Samantha furrowed her brow. ~No doubt the Captain coming to quiz me again on what I am, or am not concealing from him~ she thought. "Enter", said Samantha, placing the clothing back onto the bunk again until later. The door slid aside and the caller stepped in.... in medical teal rather than command red. A moment of surprise flashed across Gunnell's face, she had assumed that it would have been the Spectre's CO and yet..... "Doctor!", said Samantha, her face relaxing slightly into one of quiet relief. "Hallo Doctor Gunnell. I'm Dr Williams. I am sorry to bother you but I was wondering if I could have a word?", said Williams. Gunnell let out a sigh, looked briefly to the pile of clothing upon her bunk and then returned her gaze to the Doctor with a quirk of her head. "Of course, how can I help you Doctor", said Samantha. The Doctor then fired away. "I am trying to get as much medical data on the borg assimilation process and their implants. This is so that we are prepared in case it is needed.", said Williams. "Borg devices and the assimilation process are fairly well documented and on file Doctor, was there something specific you had in mind?", said Gunnell unsure now as to where he was going. "I have found that there are a couple of files which deal specificly with the sugical removal of certain implants but I do not have the access to see them. I was wondering if you could obtain this for me.", said Williams handing over the PADD in his hand as he spoke. Doctor Gunnell duly took it and then began reading through what he had marked upon it. "I see", she said, "the files you are referring to are sparce I agree, this is all due for update, most of it is dated now.... I'll see what I can do when I get settled in, after all we have a long journey ahead of us and plenty of time to correlate and pool our data", she added. (Reply Williams, IYW) "All that I have on the Borg will be uploaded to the Spectre computer core of course, I will see to it that you receive the relevant access", said Gunnell. (Reply Williams, IYW) "I understand you have a de-assimilated crewman on board Doctor?", said Samantha. (Reply Williams) "I would very much like to speak with him sometime if I may, de-assimilated drones invariably retain a certain link to the collective and other drones regardless of their detachment.... Lieutenant Donaldson may prove most useful during this mission", said Gunnell. (Reply Williams) Samantha nodded and then seated herself upon the edge of her bunk. "I hope you don't mind Doctor, I've been on my feet all day", said Samantha as she stretched her arms backwards to ease the muscular tension within her shoulders.
