The alert of a guest quarters break-in was the first action he'd seen and now he was running down the corridor at full speed, phase drawn and held up in the air. The station was a Starfleet-run installation in orbit around Earth. There wasn't much excitement around here. He saw the red light flashing in front of the guest quarters and he spun around the open doorway pointing his phaser into the room. No one there. It was dark. Looking down at the doorway there was a leather bound book, Shakespeare's Henry V and a standard issue PADD on the floor. "Computer. Lights," he said nervously. The lights came on to a ransacked quarters. Clothes and various items which were standard issue to these quarters were on the ground. The bed's mattress was no longer lined up as if someone was searching for something. "Hello?" the ensign yelled out to the empty room. "Station Security." "Computer. Who is assigned these quarters?" [Ensign JG Jack Marcell. Assistant Tactical Chief. USS Spectre,] responded the female voice of the computer. "Please patch me through." There was a beep and then the security officer started talking. "McKinley Station security to Ensign Marcell." (reply Marcell) "This is Ensign Caruso, station security. There appears to be a break-in in your quarters." (reply Marcell) "Yes. Please come by so I can take a statement and you can look through to see if anything is missing." Housman looked at L’Risa. “You okay Doc?” “I’m fine thanks a lot.” L’Risa replied. “Doc next time leave the combat to the professionals ah?” L’Risa nodded and said, “I will try to remember that Corporal, thanks for the assist. She glanced at the empty space beside her in the bed and noticed that his clothes were also gone. ~Aw well probably for the best~ She slid out from under the sheets and slipped into her swimming costume which she had brought with her. I think”, he added with a furrow of his brow. Alex looked at him with a mysterious smile, and then flinched in pain as she stuck a handful of Gagh in her mouth and chewed. Her hand came to her face and left it bloody; suddenly she felt the aches of the fight. “Forgive my lack manners” She began her upper crust accent coming through “I am Alexandria Smithson, I am and Ensign and on shore leave for the USS Spectre, I am also Daughter to a Federation Senator” She said quietly, pausing only as Klingon’s patted her heavily on the shoulder and congratulated her and a good battle. Each time she kept her diplomatic face on as every slap on her back reminded her, just how close she had come to lights out. Other Klingon’s threw the unconscious Nausicaans out the back door somewhat dishonourably; Alex’s attention was brought back from the activities as her attempted saviour began to speak. Again he shook his head... ~Is that all they think of... Mindless violence~ It was'nt that D'Sall was particularly inexperienced in that department of course, five years in the Bajoran resistance ensured that, but the past year and a half had been spent following the pacifististic lifestyle of their Vedics rather than their front line military! For a moment he allowed his mind to drift back to all that madness, the blood, the senseless inglory of it all. Then she was speaking to him again and telling him of her position aboard a Federation starship and her priviledged life beforehand... Armat nodded half heartedly, so her father was a diplomat was he. Armat had no time for diplomats these days for they seemed to wish to serve themselves above all else, and this guy was probably no different. A glass of bloodwine was placed before him, an almost arrogant smile upon the Klingons face as he placed it there, goading him to drink it without wretching. Armat huffed and then reached for the glass, upending it and taking a large gulp as the woman opposite him drew a handful of Gagh into her mouth. "So... your father is?", he asked replacing the glass upon the table. (Reply Smithson) (Posted by Alan) (Earth - Wales, Shopping Centre – TAC/ASC, Ensign Alexandria Smithson - 09:16) “So... your father is?” he asked replacing the glass upon the table. (Reply Armat) She looked at him and studied him as he spoke, she put the last bit of Gagh into her mouth and chewed as she indicated for another Bloodwine just for her, then realized and waited till he paused “would you like another Bloodwine?” She asked. (Reply Armat IYW) (Posted by Paul Davies) (Earth - Wales, Shopping Centre – Civilian, Armat D'Sall - 09:18) Armat allowed himself a smile at the mention of the woman's father being an Ambassador, to be honest, it did'nt really surprise him for she herself had an aire of breeding about her, one that he had not quite been able to identify... until now that is. "Ambassador to the Klingon homeworld AND an ex Marine uh?", he said with a nod. "I can see now why you handle yourself so well and get on with Klingon's", he added, casting a glance to the Klingon's nearby, who in turn simply stared as though assuming that he was implying that they were not that easy to get on with! Alexandria continued to eat the last of the gagh which she had pretty much devoured as though she herself had been a Klingon. There was a certain manner about her as she did this, Klingon's had that certain manner all of the time of course, a kind of 'I'm trying to prove to you just how tough I am by eating something alive' attitude that really did not work at all with him. Armat simply drained his own glass of bloodwine and then placed the heavy tankard back onto the table. "Would you like another bloodwine?", enquired the woman thoughtfully. Armat shook his head. "No, it's far too tame for me", he said whilst beckoning over to the Klingon barman, who promptly stomped over to their table and grunted with a nod. "I don't suppose you would have in your bar, something along the lines of a Chech'tluth do you my good man?", he asked, "I'll be very surprised if you don't" The Klingon grunted again and then straightened up, surprised that the half Bajoran would even know what a Chech'tluth was, let alone had once sampled one. "I'll see what I can do", said the Klingon gruffly before turning about and walking off muttering to himself as he went. Armat called after him... It seems like you have had quite a time.” Jo nodded. “Nothing like trying to see if the Spectre could swim, although I would like to not have to do that again.” A smile crept across Marion’s face. “Remind me to tell you about my adventure on the old Monsoon.” Her face became serious again. “Now Jo I have asked you here because I have heard some disturbing rumblings recently. I can’t tell you due to it being all classified but just to say be careful. Things are going to be happening soon so just watch your back okay. That goes for your sister too. Especially as you are on T’Vhor’s ship things always seems to get interesting with that ship.” There was a long pause between them before Marion smiled again. “Right then, I think it is time for a late lunch you can tell how the family is doing. Let’s go somewhere nice to eat. I think we should walk so that I can get this old body moving again.” She stood up from the behind the desk. “You’re not old Aunty.” A ghost of a smile crossed Marion’s lips. “With that kind of reply you should have been a diplomat rather than joining the marines originally.” Jo smiled as they headed for the door. “You know what they say Admiral. You can take a girl out of the corps but not the corps out of the girl.” (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - First Officers Office - FO, Commander, Andrew Williams – 13:25) Andrew stared at the small photo on his desk. It was an image of him, his parents and Audrey when he was very young and before Audrey had gone to the Academy. They had gone on holiday to where his mother had grown up. She had grown up on earth in a small village called Freshwater East on the South Pembrokeshire coast of Wales. The Photo was of them on a head land jutting out to see with an amazing view of sea at a place called Trent Point which over looked Freshwater East and the beach below it. They had had many grate times at Freshwater playing in the sea and in the sand dunes. He smiled at the memories but it slowly fell as he took a deep sigh. ~How things have changed since those care free times~ His parents, his sister and everything that had happened to him since then. “Hope you would be proud of me and what I have achieved He took a deep breath and held it fighting the raw emotions that had suddenly surfaced. He balled his hands into fists as he expelled his held breath as he regained control of himself. ~Keep it together Andrew. This is not the time to lose it not yet anyway~ He put down the photo and looked at the other one which was of him and Jay when they had both graduated. They were wearing their dress uniforms and grinning like Imps. ~Must get back to Freshwater this time. In her hands she held a large steaming cup of chi tea latay which she had gotten from the replicator. She had decided to stay here while Andrew was giving a stern talking to the Ensigns. A smile spread across her face as she inhaled its sweet aroma. ~Ow I been missing one of these for a while~ She had only been on the Kodess for three months but it felt like a lot longer then that. She let her mind wander as she heard the hussle and bussle of the crew as they came and went around her. It was good to be back on a federation starship, to feel the ebb and flow of the ship was comforting and also the fact that she did not have to wear thermal underwear in bed and not have to worry about the ever present worry of frost bite. She took a sip from her tea and felt the hot liquid warm her from the inside. ~Must try and get the Kodess’s replicators to make this rather then just algae paste~ She smiled to herself. Even though she complained about the coldness and the food her assignment on the Kodess was enjoyable she had seen and done things that she would have never dreamt about as the Commanding Officer of her little courier ship. “The prophets move in mysteries ways.” She murmured to herself as she took another sip of tea. Lieutenant Adams, now fully recovered, was zooming past San Francisco on his way to Starfleet Headquarters. Only a week ago he was knocked unconscious, but the excellent doctors on the Dauntless were able to rehabilitate him. However, once he was incapacitated and transferred to the Geneva Starbase, his tour on the Spectre ended. It was now time to report in and see what his next assignment was going to be. From the news reports, Chris saw that the Spectre was successful in her mission to stop the ETHOS vessel. Although most of the events were still classified on a "need to know" basis, Adams had a few contacts inside Starfleet from his time on Earth after the Civil War who filled in the holes. In fact, the Spectre was still in orbit docked at McKinley Station. ~I guess it's always possible I could get my old assignment back since the Spectre is still in orbit,~ thought the engineer. ~In face, maybe I should fight to get my assignment back. I was just getting use to that old ship.~ The Starfleet Headquarters shuttle area was a hustle of activity. Starfleet officers walked back and forth, heading into building or waiting around for the next shuttle. One of the other shuttles had just arrived and was letting its passengers off, a contingent of Vulcan officials. They were tightly packed together with Vulcan glyphs on their robes. The glyphs were from an ancient Vulcan dialect from the Time of the Awakening, unreadable by other races. Lieutenant Adams's shuttle came to a soft landing in its designated area and glided to a stop. Impatiently, Adams watched the chaos of the shuttle area from the tiny window in the door. When the shuttle came to a stop, the door lifted open. The engineering officer stepped out, once again standing on Earth soil. It felt good to be home again. He stepped out of the shuttle and headed towards the main entrance, when an officer from the Spectre he recognized came into view. Adams called out to him. "How are things on the Spectre?" (reply Spectre Officer) Adams chuckled and smiled. "Well, not quite so dead after all. 'The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated'." Adams shook the officer's hand. She watched as the shuttle bay doors opened and a lieutenant stepped out. Although Jen was flight ops rather than main fleet her Second Lieutenant rank was still the equivalent to a Lieutenant Junior Grade and protacal was still nesseary. She got up from her consle and quickly walked on to the shuttle bay deck to meet the Lieutenant. As she came closer she noticed that it was Adams and wondered what he had been doing away all this time. "How are things on the Spectre?" Jen grinned at Adams. “Same as usually Sir, Never rains but it pores. It’s nice to see you back.” Adams chuckled and smiled. "Well, not quite so dead after all. 'The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated'." She shook his hand that Adams had offered.. “That’s good to know.” "I'm reporting to Admiral Jopek to find out what my next assignment is going to be." She watched as Adams turned and walked through the doors that would taking him into the back lobby entrance of Starfleet Headquarters. She glanced around the busy shuttle bay. She saw a couple of cargo shuttles making there approach and group of cadets being shoe horned into a small shuttle pod. But she had it up in a tight bun, as she entered she got finny looks from her parents. “Relax Daddy, I will be ready in time” She said then looked at the food “looks nice Mom” She said with a smile and went up to her bedroom. “Is it me or did she seem entirely too happy?” Gavin Smithson asked. “Something good happened to her that is obvious” Her Mother Jennifer Anne Smithson said. Like his Daughter Gavin was curious, he paused outside her room and knocked lightly on her door. “Who is it?” She asked. “Your father Alex, may I enter?” He asked. “Sure, I am decent” She responded. As Gavin entered he saw his Daughter unpin her hair and as she turned around it had an effect on him. “My, definitely a woman, no longer Daddy’s little girl” He said in a mock sad tone “I like your new hair style” He said. Alex smiled and gave him a big hug and whispered in his ear “I will always be daddy’s little girl” Then she stepped back, her Father’s eyes were full, knowing his ego, she moved on “What you think of this red Number?” She asked showing him the dress she had bought. Silently acknowledging his daughters tact he also continued on as if nothing had happened, “Looks provocative, but you always did like Retro clothes. But I come to ask you something, not relating to tonight’s party” He said. Putting the dress down as she sat to take her shoes off, her father paced. “What is it dad?” She asked. “Why are you so cheerful, you seem more so than the last time you done this much shopping?” He asked. “Oh I bartered a Ferengi down to a price lower than what he was asking for the dress and shoes, and I won a hostile negotiation with a pair of Nausicaans” She said. One moment he was feeling proud of his daughters bartering negotiation skills, then horror as she said hostile. “Explain this hostile negotiation?” He demanded. She smiled “you remember Commander Krelok of the KDF?” she asked, her father nodded “they retired him, he opened a Klingon Bar in the town centre and I went in for some Bloodwine and Gagh” she said and her Father nodded. He had learned to appreciate Gagh, but never made it part of his diet, as Ambassador to the Klingon Colonies it was expected. “So?” He asked, indicating for Alex to move on. “Well I was just sitting down when these two Nausicaans approached and tried to bully me out of the table I was sitting at. As words became heated I stood and grabbed hold of this” She said showing him her folded quarterstaff. “Then a Bajoran/Human tried to intervene, the Nausicaans pushed him backwards, knocking him out cold, that when I sprung into action, I suffered some abrasions and deep cuts and a lot of aches and pains. End result they were unconscious and had to be carried out by other Klingon patrons, while I bought my would be saviour a Bloodwine, that is the Hostile negotiation bit, also I compensated Krelok for the damage caused.” She stopped. Gavin hid his pride well enough but not his shock, “well as long as you are safe” He said and left the room. Alex looked quizzically at her departing father, before shrugging and returning to her purchases and getting ready. Back downstairs Gavin Smithson went to the liquor cabinet and pulled out some Romulan ale and took a big drink, his wife and children looked at him puzzled. “What is it Gavin?” Jennifer asked. “Our daughter, she took on two Nausicaans and won” He said pride showing in his voice “she calls it a Hostile negotiation” He added and began laughing. With a smile on her face “That’s our Alex, she always was a Tomboy” Jennifer said. “After you see her new hairstyle and dress, you will never look at her as a Tomboy again” He said, this had the effect of shutting his wife up as her face showed interest. His commanding officer, Krige had been strangely different with him today, but then was'nt he always? Perhaps, but not like this. There was something on the MCO's mind today that went a little further than his usual meanderings away from normal duty, today he seemed almost... worried! Krige NEVER worried... about anything. Indeed, the MCO was probably THE most laid back officer Kowalski had ever had the priviledge of serving with. It was most strange. No matter though, there was work to do and as Bruce powered up the PADD, he caught the shadow of another arrival to his office in the corner of his eye. "First Lieutenant Smith reporting sir", said the man, as his boots clicked upon the floor with a stamp as he saluted. Kowalski relaxed his shoulders and then dropped the now active PADD upon the table, his attention coming to bear on the newly arrived officer as he did so. "At ease Lieutenant", said the MXO. (Reply Smith) Kowalski picked up the PADD once again, scrutinizing the file upon it as he did so and then switching the view to another, more detailed one. The Ambassador obviously had a taste for the historical, not that that in any way was a bad thing of course, far from it in fact, it was just... a little unexpected. Smithson continued on as she escorted the Captain onwards through the hall towards an ornate door a little further ahead. “I am surprised but glad you could attend", said Smithson, "I take it my father invited you” "Yes, he did", stated the Captain, "I was initially unsure as to whether I would be able to attend, but.... as you can see, I am here now", he added as he continued to take in the splendour of the hallway and upper levels. "I must say that your family home is most impressive. Nothing at all like anything one would see on Vulcan of course, but interesting nonetheless", he added. “Thank you Sir, Ambassador Vrek and Lady T’Leni arrived early, so our guest of honour, the one who is retiring showed up before anyone else”, said Smithson, lowering her voice now to a near whisper as though not wishing those nearby to hear what she had to say next. "I will admit, that I would prefer Dress Uniform to this, but you know what the upper class are like Sir?”, she added enquiringly. "I am afraid not", said the Captain, we do of course have class distinction on Vulcan, but in general, this does not normally extend to what one might wear during a function or meeting", he added, pulling once again at his own collar as though to ease the tightness of his own dress uniform, whilst Ensign Smithson, looking anything but 'Starfleet' right now, led him on and into another, even more grand room than the hallway itself. Immediately, she then walked over to a small gathering of dignitories, Ambassador Smithson amongst them of course. “Father, Ambassadors, I present Captain T’Vhor Captain of the USS Spectre and my commanding Officer”, said Alexandria with a proud smile, whilst Smithson himself broke ranks and reached forwards his hand towards the Vulcan hybrid CO. “Greetings Captain T’Vhor, I am pleased you could attend”, he said. The Captain nodded in typical Vulcan fashion, shaking the ambassadors hand and then looking to the others assembled there and acknowledging each in turn. "The pleasure is mine Ambassador", said the Captain as his young officer then introduced him to the rest of her family, starting with the women and then finally the young male, who extended a hand likewise. The Captain shook it, noting the tightness of the young mans grip as he did so. "I am very pleased to meet you all, and am honoured to have been invited to such a fine gathering in such a fine residence", said the Captain. He then espied the Vulcan Ambassador and his wife before excusing himself as politely as he was able. "If you do not mind, I would like to greet the Ambassador and his wife if I may?", asked the Captain, "It has been some time since I spoke with him", he added. (Reply Any, IYW) The Captain then made his way towards the Ambassador himself. "A Pleasure to meet you in person Captain T'Vhor" Gavin Smithson said "I am very please to meet you all, and am honoured to have been invited to such a fine gathering in such a fine residence", said the Captain. He then espied the Vulcan Ambassador and his wife before excusing himself as politely as he was able. "If you do not mind, I would like to greet the Ambassador and his wife if I may?", asked the Captain, "It has been some time since I spoke with him", he added. “Of course Captain” Gavin Smithson responded, “enjoy” He added and watched the Vulcan make his way over to the retiring Ambassador. Out in the hallway Alex greeted the Andorian, Trill Ambassadors Gavin Smithson could hear his Eldest Daughter directing some new arrivals, but could not make out what was said but a short moment later two new Ambassadors had entered the main reception, as Alex came in some paces behind them. Between T’Vhor’s arrival and these two a host of others had arrived, most the holographic staff allowed in. Is that understood Lieutenant?" ”Understood Sir.” "Good, then let's move on.” "You've arrived early Lieutenant, you may as well get yourself down to the marine hanger deck and help Constantine with the Trojan AI unit. Stow your gear in the billet and introduce yourself to those on board, then make yourself useful without being too 'impulsive'..." ”Yes Sir.” Kenneth saluted, spun on his heals and headed for the door. ~Well this should be an interesting deployment~ (Reply None) (Posted by Robbie) (Earth – Wales, Smithson Residence – Senator Gavin Smithson and TAC/ASC Ensign Alexandria Smithson – 19:00) While his Eldest made the rounds, seemingly charming the heck out of all the Senators, the Vulcan’s seemed comfortable with her demeanour, even if they initially raised their eyebrows at Alexandria’s dress, it brought a smile to his face knowing two raised eyebrows from a Vulcan was the equivalent of mouths hanging open in shock. The other Ambassadors who had emotions visible and who were male looked on a little enraptured, but too experienced to let on. The ones Alex seemed to have noticed this flirted with them, so charmed them totally, smiling to himself his attention was brought back to the Conversations going on, he was startled when someone touched his arm. “You seem at a loss dad?” Alex asked. Gavin looked to where he had last seen his daughter and where she was now pointing with his hand and having a curious look “How, the!! What, how did you….?” He asked breaking off. “How did I get over here so quietly without the great Gavin Smithson noticing?” She asked with a playful smile. Gavin only nodded. “You were so distracted, that a rampaging Klingon could have sneaked up on you dad” She said. He only rolled his eyes and gave his surprised eldest a warm friendly hug; against her will she hugged him back. “Does this mean the bridge between us is now fixed?” She asked pulling away and looking her father in the eyes. ~are those tears in his eyes?~ She asked herself. Looking back “yes, in case I have never mentioned it, I am and have always been very proud of you and the choice you made, even when you joined Starfleet instead of the Diplomatic Corps, I was a little shocked but very proud” He paused “So yes Alex the bridge is mended between us” Unknown to Gavin his wife Jennifer Smithson and her other children were watching this; Jennifer had to wipe some tears at seeing this. Longtime friend to the family, Jack Stratton, watched on from the passenger seat. The door slid open and they both stepped out. The weeds were knee high is some areas and the house looked like it hadn't been lived in in years. The paint on the barn in the back of the property was starting to fade from the Texas heat bearing down on the building. Rocks crunched under Chris's boots as he stepped out onto the very rarely used dirt road which led from the house to the nearest road into town. It saddened him to see the house he grew up in such a level of disarray. The house and land had been passed down for generations. "It's seen better days," stated Adams. "Good thing you showed up when you did," said Jack Stratton. "With you missing and presumed dead five years ago and your mother passing away, it was about to go to estate sale. It broke your mother's heart when you vanished." "I know," responded the lieutenant solemnly. They started walking up the path to the house. Adams shielded his eyes from the cloudless sky in order to assess the state of the building. Looking closer, it wasn't in that bad of shape. It had only been a year since he'd been here, but when the Spectre jumped five years into the future the actual passage was six years. His mother, Laverne Cartwright, had never fully recovered from her stay in one of the Doenitz internment camps during the War. With the news of her son's disappearance, she couldn't hold on. Within a few months she had passed away. Chris was her only son and there were no other heirs in her will. "I had the power reconnected last week," stated Jack breaking up Adams's thoughts. Chris put his hand and against the black smooth interface panel at the front door. There was a click and he pulled on the door handle to open the door. As he entered, the lights started flicking on. There was a layer of dust, but for the most part everything looked okay. "I have a few electronic documents for you to sign in order to take possession of the place and we should be good." Adams took the pad and keyed in his authorization code in order electronically sign the document without even reading it. "Probably wouldn't take too much in order to get this place back up and running again," stated Jack trying to lift his friend's sprit. Chris was like a second son to him. His own son, Tom, and Chris grew up in this area running through the woods playing. Both earning their Eagle Scout badges together. It was his and Vincent Adams's proudest moment when their sons were both accepted to Starfleet Academy at the same time. Chris gave a big sigh. "Sorry. Just lost in thought. There's a lot of work to do. Let's take a tour of the barn and then I'll call HTF to beam you where you need to go." "It's going to be okay, Chris," Jack said grasping the young man's shoulder with a smile and looking up into his eyes. "I know there's a lot of old memories here, but just take it one step at a time. Think of it as just another engineering problem to tackle. When you get it going again, I'll hire some people to keep it up while you are out on your starship. It will be a nice little retreat for when you return to Earth." "You're right," the Starfleet officer responded the hint of a smile escaping from his lips. "Let's take a look around so I can start figuring out what needs fixing." He was elated a week ago when Admiral Jopek had told him that he was indeed going to be returning to his old post on the Spectre. He also was allowed to continue to recuperate on Earth for a bit longer before reporting in. As he made the transition from airlock to the ship's deck, he breathed in the familiar smell of the ship. It was good to be home. Nothing was left of his old life on Earth since they made the jump five years into the future and his mother passed away in the time they were gone. Now the Spectre was his home. Ready to get started, he walked towards the turbolift. (Reply None) (Posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Deck 1, Bridge - Lieutenant Christopher Adams - 08:59) The first order of duty was to report to the captain and have Adams officially transferred to the USS Spectre. The doors to the turbolift slid open to reveal the familiar bridge. Even though they were at space dock, a skeleton crew had to always be on the bridge. Adams looked around and then headed to the Captain's Ready Room door. He pushed the door chime and waited for a response. (reply T'Vhor) The door slid open and there was Captain T'Vhor seated at his desk. Adams approached, still not able to get the smile off his face from being so happy to be back on board. "Lieutenant Christopher Adams reporting for duty," stated the engineer standing at attention in front of the captain's desk. (reply T'Vhor) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Captain Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:00) The Captain was relaxing now upon the sofa taking up one side of the alcove in his ready room, the low 'thrum' of the warp core resonating slightly through the room as the base engineers ran calibration tests on the new core's functional parameters. It was said that the upgrade to the ships engines would allow them to cruise at high warp for longer, and that a higher speed was attainable also. T'Vhor knew though that the figures the engineers often claimed on the testbeds were rarely the same as those attained under operational conditions. Time would tell in this instance, as always. The chime sounding at his door distracted the Captain just briefly from his thoughts and caused him to stand and move to his desk to take a seat, then he bade the person enter and in walked a familiar face. "Lieutenant Christopher Adams reporting for duty", stated the officer coming to on the opposite side of the CO's desk. The Captain, currently off duty and out of uniform, regarded the Engineer closely. Here was a man that had already served on the Spectre, a man that commanded a certain respect and as such, probably one of the finest engineers that he had had the priviledge of working with in a number of years. Indeed, it was probably not an overstatement that Lt H'Chirs boots were not the easiest of boots to fill, and the Captain wondered now if Adams was actually aware of that fact, given that he was about to offer him the Andorians job! Dismissing that thought for the moment, the Captain then addressed the officer himself. "At ease Lieutenant", said the Captain, "please, take a seat" (Reply Adams, IYW) "I trust that you are well and fully recovered after the incident of our last mission Lieutenant?", asked the Captain referring now to the PADD before him as he spoke. (Reply Adams) The Captain nodded accordingly, noting the medical assessor's recommendations in his final signing off of Adam's from the inactive roster. Then he closed the PADD down and settled back into his seat, his hands coming together before him, fingers clasped with the two index fingers touching to his lips. "You are aware no doubt of Lieutenant H'Chir's decision to stand down as the Spectre's Chief of Engineering", asked the Captain, knowing of course that it was not uncommon knowledge that the Andorian had done so. (Reply Adams) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - ACEO, Lieutenant Christopher Adams - 09:01) It was rare to see the captain out of uniform, but it was shore leave after all and just because he chose to spend that time in his own office didn't mean he had to wear a uniform. Seated at his desk he looked up at one of his former engineers returning to the ship after an injury. "Lieutenant Christopher Adams reporting for duty," stated the officer. "At ease, Lieutenant. Please take a seat." Adams nodded and found one of the seats in front of Captain T'Vhor's desk. "I trust that you are well and fully recovered after the incident of our last mission, Lieutenant?" asked the captain. "Yes, sir," stated the engineer confidently. "As you can see from the medical report, I'm ready for duty. The doctors on Starbase Geneva are amazing. They can work wonders." The captain nodded in response and continued. "You are aware no doubt of Lieutenant H'Chir's decision to stand down as the Spectre's Chief of Engineering?" Adams was astonished. He had noticed that the Chief Engineer had been acting quite odd as of late, but had no idea it had led to this. "No, sir. I hadn't heard. I've spent the last week at my mother's ranch. I haven't had much contact with any of the Spectre crew and came straight here once boarding the ship." (reply T'Vhor) "Okay, well, I can work well with anyone." stated the engineer. "If I may ask, who is going to be replacing the Chief?" (reply T'Vhor) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:02) ".... I haven't had much contact with any of the Spectre crew and came straight here once boarding the ship", said Adams, finishing his sentence in surprise at the mention that H'Chir had seemingly thrown his hand in. "Nevertheless", said the Captain, "the Lieutenant has finally admitted to himself that he needs a rest. I tend to agree", he added, a characteristic raise of an eyebrow as he spoke. "Okay, well, I can work well with anyone." stated the engineer. "If I may ask, who is going to be replacing the Chief?", asked Adam's. The Captain then leaned forwards slightly in his chair, his hands returning to the desk. "I was rather hoping that you yourself might be amenable to the task yourself Mr Adams", said the Captain, "I can certainly think of no other that might even come close to filling the Andorians proverbial boots so to speak", he added, waiting now for the Lieutenants response. (Reply Adams) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - ACEO, Lieutenant Christopher Adams - 09:03) Lieutenant Christopher Adams stood before Captain T'Vhor's desk having just heard about Chief Engineer H'Chir stepping down. It was true the chief had been acting quite odd as of late. Something about a small winged humanoid with some sort of engineering equipment tormenting him around the ship. Definitely not the sign of a sane individual. "I was rather hoping that you might be amendable to the task yourself Mr Adams," stated the captain. "I can certainly think of no other that might even come close to filling the Andorians proverbial boots so to speak." "I would be honored, Sir," responded Adams overjoyed. He tried not to show his emotions to his Vulcan Captain, but the excitement could be heard in his voice. "I will do my best to keep the Spectre in top shape for you. I'm sure there's a lot of repairs needed since plunging to the depths of the Vedean ocean...Um...When do I start?" (reply T'Vhor) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:04) Adam's had appeared to swell with a certain pride at the offer to lead the Spectre's engineering department, it was understandable perhaps for Human's often found it exceptionally difficult to hide their emotions whenever they became particularly overwhelming. A Vulcan would have simply nodded and then graciously accepted, but then... Vulcan's had spent many hundreds of years perfecting the art of non-emotion, Humans had not! "I would be honoured sir", Adams had said, before then expressing his eagerness to 'get to work' so to speak, regardless of the fact that the ship was in dock and her crew on shore leave. As it was, the Captain understood the Lieutenants eagerness of course, after all he had just spent a good deal of time couped up on Geneva undergoing recupperative exercises that were bland and boring at the very best. It was no wonder he was itching to take hold of a hypospanner again "...Um...When do I start?", he asked. The Captain settled back into his chair and then opened up an entry on a nearby PADD, scanning it briefly before answering the man's query. "As you are probably aware Lieutenant, the core has been replaced and is currently on run up, our phased cloak has likewise been replaced along with a number of key systems. The McKinley engineers are working on this as we speak so, there is no need for you to 'start' right now as you say", said the Captain, "however, I can appreciate that you might want to oversee the new upgrades as they are carried out", he added. (Reply Adams) The Captain acknowledged the mans concerns, Starbase Engineers, although excellent in the field of docked refit, knew little about operational parameters under 'real' load conditions, and with a nod he could only agree. However, there was one other matter that the Captain needed to attend to before the new CEO left the room, and that was one of command position. "You may begin at your leisure Lieutenant. However, now that you have formally accepted the position of Chief of Engineering, I would like you also to consider the position of second officer of the ship", said the Captain. "I do not need an answer right away, and you may of course decline should you so wish or take the time to think about this offer. However, I must know within the next few days, and most definately well before we depart spacedock", he added. The CO then awaited the Lieutenant's response on that.... (Reply Adams) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CEO, Lt Christopher Adams - 09:05) Chief Engineer! Christopher Adams could hardly believe his ears. "As you are probably aware, Lieutenant," explained Captain T'Vhor. "The core has been replaced and is currently on run up, our phased cloak has likewise been replaced along with a number of key systems. The McKinley engineers are working on this as we speak so, there is no need for you to 'start' right now as you say. However, I can appreciate that you might want to oversee the new upgrades as they are carried out." "That goes without question," Adams responded. "The starbase engineers just don't understand what a starship goes through during real space flight. They work in theory. I work in reality. I understand letting our engineering crew get some leave while we are here at Earth, but I would feel a lot better if we had some oversight in various areas. I'll start reviewing what has been done right away." The captain nodded, not really reacting while the engineer ranted about the starbase engineering work crew. "You may begin at your leisure Lieutenant. However, now that you have formally accepted the position of Chief of Engineering, I would like you also to consider the position of second officer of the ship. I do not need an answer right away, and you may of course decline should you so wish or take the time to think about this offer. However, I must know within the next few days, and most definately well before we depart spacedock" "I don't need the time, Sir. I accept and thank you. Your confidence in my abilities is much appreciated." (reply T'Vhor) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:07) The 'Chief', for that was what he now was, wasted no time at all in providing an answer to the Captain's second, and obviously most unexpected offer. Indeed, he was positively buzzing! "I don't need the time, Sir. I accept and thank you. Your confidence in my abilities is much appreciated", he said, the smile upon his face still evident as he spoke. The Captain remained his usual, calm and collected self of course. "You ARE, the logical choice Lieutenant", he offered, "but it should be said also that my confidence in your abilities goes beyond simple logic. I value you as an officer on board this ship, and as a friend", said the Captain. "You have earned, and are worthy of the offers of these positions" (Reply Adams) The Captain nodded accordingly, and then stood, a hand extended towards the newly assigned CEO and twenty. "May I be the first to congratulate you Lieutenant", said the Captain. (Reply Adams) The Captain then took his seat again to remind the CEO that he would be needing a full operational status update on Engineering at his earliest convenience. Then he dismissed the eager lieutenant to attend to whatever was now on his mind, which was probably to go visit his new domain. He was looking forward to having his usual lunch with Kenneth and then having an explore into the inner bowels of the Spectre. ~Its definately an interesting ship~ He looked back at the schematic on the console, it showed the impulse engine manifold and gave a soft sigh to himself. ~Just because all ships have them why did they have to be so different~ (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (Earth - Stockton CA, Valley Brew and Pub - ACMO, Ensign (JG) L’Risa 21:30) A couple of days had passed since the incident with the Cardassians, but it was an incident L’Risa would not soon forget. It certainly was not enough for him to abandon his previous plans, but it was enough for him to at least make some “adjustments” So when he beamed down, he was carrying a standard issue phaser and a somewhat less than standard hunting knife about 33 centimeters long that was a polymer/stainless steel hybrid. He was aware that if he were caught with it by the civilian authorities, especially if they were as ‘cranky’ as Sgt. Grant had been, he might find himself in deep catnip, but it was a gamble that he was willing to take. After all, he was going to New Stockton, where authorities were a little more lenient about such things, and he wanted an efficient back up, just in case things went east. He wore the knife on his inner left thigh. While technically this was concealing of a weapon which might add to the height of the catnip, he didn’t think it prudent to be displaying things either. He had heard some good things about the Valley Brew and Pub, but had never been there. He arrived around 2100 and found an empty table outside. The beer he had selected, an Indian Pale Ale, was made right there at the restaurant and was cold, delicious, and non-replicated. He had two while he waited for his food. He smelled the steak salad with extra meat before it arrived and his mouth watered in anticipation. Real meat he noticed as he took his first bite, “Mmmmm, this is good,” he said to himself. But he had taken only a few bites when a young human who couldn’t have been over 25 sat down next to him unannounced and uninvited. The young man, who had one hand beneath the table said, “I have an old fashioned Terran .44 magnum pointed at your family jewles. I would suggest that if you’d like to keep them you do as I say and come with me. And just to make sure we’re not interrupted this time. Why don’t you hand me your comm badge. Just slide it across the table.” L’Risa wasn’t sure if the man was bluffing, but with the stakes so high, he wasn’t going to call the bluff. Some things were just too valuable to lose. He slid the badge across the countertop and said, “So are you going to at least tell me what this is about?” (Reply Any) (Posted by Chris Taylor ======================================================================
