It was rare she wished for telepathic gifts of her own, but this was certainly one of those times. Of course, it was probably for the best that she didn't considering she would probably strip people of knowledge and information as she felt she needed and that wasn't exactly matching Star Fleet's ethical and moral code. Then they shared a look. Jynea even more wanted to beat her head against a wall. She wasn't a real councillor, she was just the girl who threw parties and helped with social activities. She nagged the Captain, sure, but this deep emotional trauma stuff was so far beyond her it wasn't funny. She was the person you called when you wanted to organize a christening, not when you were reuniting a Borged couple. "There is no one true way," Jynea murmured, mostly to herself as Chuck and Judith shared their moment. When the not quite ex-borg drone looked her way, Jynea bowed her head and looked back up, "I owe you an apology, I am supposed to help and heal, not learn for my own gain at the expense of others. Perhaps it would help you if Chuck explained what his role in your pre-Borg life was?" (Reply Donaldson or Donaldson) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Spectre - Counseling Department - TAC/SC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 11:07) "I owe you an apology, I am supposed to help and heal, not learn for my own gain at the expense of others. Perhaps it would help you if Chuck explained what his role in your pre-Borg life was?" suggested Jynea. (reply Judith Donaldson) "A husband - companion, partner, caretaker ..." Chuck shivered at the next word, "... lover." (reply Judith, any) (posted by Anton) (USS Spectre – Bridge – FO, Williams - 11:50) =^=I'll meet you there shortly, do I need to bring anything specific... I mean, has the Captain requested any environmental protection other than standard bio- hazard containment?=^= “No the Captain has not but we should not take any chances.” =^=I concur, the transporters should filter anything dangerous out before it arrives but you can never be too careful where Borg material is concerned=^= =^=and a security presence is a must of course", she added. ”They are on their way as we speak.” As the comm channel closed he stood up and looked over at Capps. “Commander Capps you have the bridge. I will be in bio-hazard containment.” (reply Capps ) Andrew turned and headed for the turbolift. (Reply Capps) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Bio-Hazard Containment – Chief Petty Officer Rock – 11:50) CPO Rock just arrived at the bio-hazard containment area with a new crewman, Maddox, that was just transferred to the Spectre. Rock believed that this occurrence would be an excellent opportunity for Maddox to learn the ropes a bit. It would get her feet wet. Rock himself had done more than his fair share of security detail of an area. For over 18 years of service with Starfleet he was proud to be the highest ranking enlisted member on the Spectre. Within those 18 years he has helped guard ambassadors of Earth, Vulcan, Qo’nos, many Admirals of different rank and VIP guest aboard ships, and many types of cargo. This assignment to Rock was just another one. He of course took it just as serious as his first one. He was just more seasoned now. The CPO had to admit though the cargo being stored was placed in the bio-hazard containment which did peak his interest and curiosity. Maddox and Rock arrived at the door which they would be posted to until their relief came. Only minutes later did Commander Williams pass by them and entered into the room. After the doors closed behind the Commander, Rock turned to Crewman Maddox. “Did you recognize that officer?” Maddox sheepishly had to respond in the negative. “I imagine you didn’t since you have only been here for less than a day. Overtime you will begin to learn their faces and who they are. That was the First Officer, Commander Williams. He also duos as Chief Medical Officer.” (reply none) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre – Bridge – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 11:52) “Commander Capps you have the bridge. I will be in bio-hazard containment.” Calvin was standing behind his TAC console, and had just dispatched his security team to bio-hazard when he looked up toward Commander Williams who called his name with following orders. “Aye sir,” Calvin said. He moved away from his console and another officer took over simultaneously. He watched the First Officer move off the bridge and into the turbolift. The Lt Cmdr took the center seat and viewed the arm panel consoles and readied to transport the material. (USS Spectre – Bio-Hazard Containment – FO, Williams - 11:56) Andrew nodded at the two security guards as he entered bio-hazard containment. He saw that Dr Gunnell had also arrived. He looked over the console indicating that the containment area was secure and then looked over at Dr Gunnell. “Are you ready Dr Gunnell?” (reply Gunnell) Andrew nodded as he tapped his comm badge. “Williams to bridge. We are all ready down here. Transport the Borg equipment and the away team over when you are ready.” (reply Bridge) Andrew waited for a few moments until he heard the familiar hum of the transporter. He looked over into the containment field and saw the equipment from the Borg ship materialise. He scrutinised the monitor closely to make sure that they had full containment and when he was happy turned to Dr Gunnell. “Every thing looks good. Shall we Dr Gunnell?” He said indicating to the rack of different bio-hazard suits hanging from the wall. (reply Gunnell) (Reply Capps,Gunnell, bridge, Any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Bridge – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 11:57) =/\=Williams to bridge. We are all ready down here. Transport the Borg equipment and the away team over when you are ready.=/\= Lt Cmdr Capps only had to wait a few minutes for the order to transport. After the comm closed from Commander Williams Calvin opened another one. “Capps to away team. Transporting equipment into bio-hazard now. Stand by.” (reply away team, iyw) Calvin nodded toward the Ops station. “Transport.” Calvin watched the transport report from his arm panel. The transport started and finished in seconds and no red flags popped up. It was a successful transport of the material. He opened a channel. “Capps to Commander Williams.” (reply Williams) “Did the equipment transport securely sir?” Calvin enquired. (reply Williams) “Aye sir, Capps to away team.” (reply away team) “The Borg equipment has been transported successfully, are you ready to be transported back?” (reply away team) “Aye sir.” The comm closed. “Transport.” (reply William, away team, anybody) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Bio Hazard Containment – FO, Williams – 12:03) Andrew finished getting into the suit. They had decided to go for heavy duty reinforced suits just in case something went wrong it would give them a little bit more protection. =^=Capps to Commander Williams=^= “Williams here.” He picked up his helmet. =^=Did the equipment transport securely sir?=^= Andrew glanced at the Borg equipment behind the security field. “It’s all here and secure. You can get the Captain back whenever you are ready.” =^=Aye sir, Capps to away team=^= Andrew looked over at Gunnell as he put on his helmet. Hearing the slight hiss as the helmet connected. =^=Are you ready to go and have a look Dr Gunnell?=^= (Reply Gunnell) =^=Let’s hope the nanites behave themselves=^= (Reply Gunnell IYW) Andrew moved forward through the security shields and stopped in front of the Borg equipment. =^=Okay anywhere you think we should start first?=^= (reply Gunnell) (reply Gunnell, any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Bio-Hazard Containment – FO, Williams – 12:21) Andrew looked at the information that was coming up on the large screen in front of him. With Dr Gunnell’s help they had manage to down load a large amount of data into a stand alone console. Although there was still a lot more to go through. On the other side of the barrier CPO Rock and Crewman Maddox were reading a read only version. He was happy with the precautions they had taken to stop any Borg nanites from infecting the rest of the ship. He looked at the data on the screen, it showed a star map of this system. He could see the exit of the subspace river. He could not understand why the Borg were here at this system. ~What made it so special to any other subspace river exit~ “Computer pull out and show me the sector.” He watched as the screen pulled out to show the whole sector. “Computer superimpose any known Borg activity in this sector.” He watched as a few dots appeared. This sector was unusual due to it having two river exits and these locations were where the computer had shown where the Borg had been. ~Okay so this is us by the first one and the other is right over the other side of the sector~ “Computer superimpose any known Borg transwarp exits.” A bright dot appeared at the other subspace river exit. ~Uh Ow~ “Computer expand to a galaxy view and impose all known parts of the River and Borg transwarp pathways.” The screen reeled back showing what he had asked with the river in blue and the Borg in red. ~Ow hell~ A sudden chilling thought flashed into Williams mind. “Computer what would happen if the Borg were able to access the river with their transwarp pathways?” The image in front of him shifted and what had once been the blue of the river changed to red. He looked over to Dr Gunnell and spoke to her over the suits comm systems. “From what we have found from this Borg teck. Does this appear like a likely reason for them to be out here?” He pointed to the screen. (Reply Dr Gunnell) (Reply Dr Gunnell, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Bio-Hazard Containment – Doctor Samantha Gunnell – 12:23) Gunnell had been intently scrutinizing the data as it scrolled up her screen, whilst Andrew cross referenced the medical aspects of what they were seeing now and then began calling up starcharts on the river and recent Borg movements within set criteria. It was quite obvious now that there was clearly an organic element at work here and it seemed to be reacting to external stimuli. This was fascinating stuff for sure, for under those conditions, it actually qualified for a classification of life! Williams though seemed to be on a roll right now and after verifying his data over and over, he finally spoke to Samantha regarding his own growing concerns. “From what we have found from this Borg tech. Does this appear like a likely reason for them to be out here?”, he asked, pointing to the relevant data on the screen. Gunnell leaned across and read it off herself. "Well", she said, "it certainly looks like it, these terminae are clearly of interest to them.... it's looking as though they want to go someplace fast", she added. "But why...", she added. (Reply Williams, Any) Samantha placed the PADD she had been working with onto the table, then she pointed out another, seemingly strange reading in regards the stability of the subspace base frequencies. "These are fluctuating when they shouldn't be... and from what we've been reading, I think the fluctuations are building to a peak", said Gunnell. "This is NOT a natural phenomenon, this is tampering on a large scale", she added. (Reply Williams, Any) "There is a temporal shift here, it could be just spurious deposits left nearby when the Borg sphere opened the temporal vortex, but I have a feeling there's more to this than meets the eye", said Gunnell, looking increasingly more worried over the findings now. (Reply Williams, Any) Gunnell bit at her lower lip in concentration, then she took a deep breath. "I think we should call a meeting with the Captain, this is not looking good at all", she said, casting a glance over the screen once again to note the FFT display peak once again. (Reply Williams, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Bio-Hazard Containment – FO, Williams – 12:25) "Well", she said, "it certainly looks like it, these terminae are clearly of interest to them.... it's looking as though they want to go someplace fast", Gunnell added. "But why...", she added. “Wherever it is they want to go its not going to be good.” He saw Gunnell place the PADD she had been working with onto the table, then she pointed out another, seemingly strange reading in regards the stability of the subspace base frequencies. "These are fluctuating when they shouldn't be... and from what we've been reading, I think the fluctuations are building to a peak", said Gunnell. "This is NOT a natural phenomenon, this is tampering on a large scale", she added. Andrew looked at the readings. “Really where does it show that?” "There is a temporal shift here, it could be just spurious deposits left nearby when the Borg sphere opened the temporal vortex, but I have a feeling there's more to this than meets the eye", said Gunnell, looking increasingly more worried over the findings now. Williams gave a slight sigh. “This is not going to be good if the Borg are messing with time travel.” Gunnell bit at her lower lip in concentration, then she took a deep breath. "I think we should call a meeting with the Captain, this is not looking good at all", she said, casting a glance over the screen once again to note the FFT display peak once again. ~Ow he is gonna love this~ “Lets go and tell him the good news.” He nodded and headed towards the shield so that he could get out of the suit. (Reply Any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Exterior Hull Plating - ACEO, Lieutenant Chris Adams - 15:09) Adams lurched just briefly and then gripped onto his tether in an unexpected display of uncertainty. Zero-G had that effect at times but this was not like anything he had experienced before and it had taken him completely unawares. ~What the hell~ he thought turning to look at Talbot where he worked on one of the small panels that had already started to show microfracture evidence. Talbot turned also, clearly he had felt it to and he gesticulated with both hands in a raised, palm upwards attitude as though to say 'I don't know either'... Adams turned to look at the shuttle drifting nearby at a safe, but discrete distance, it's maneuvering thrusters firing once in a while in bright blue jets to hold it's station. Then he opened a com channel. "Are you reading anything.... unusual Lieutenant Commander?", asked Adams. (Reply Banowsky) The ACEO looked towards the Borg ship, then he glanced in the direction of the river, his faceplate beginning to mist slightly with his slightly elevated breathing now. "I felt a.... I felt a breeze", said Adams, knowing full well of course that that was quite impossible in the cold, airless vacuum of space. "Call me crazy but, something pushed me against the tension of my tether", he added. Talbot said nothing but looked to both the Borg ship and the river before turning towards his superior. "I suggest we get these plates repaired double quick sir, then get back to the shuttle at the earliest opportunity", said talbot. "I'm not gonna argue with you there buddy", said Adams, "should take the both of us about twenty minutes or so if we work double quick" Talbot nodded and then got to work whilst Adams gave a visible thumbs up towards Banowsky sitting in the shuttle looking out upon them. "We'll be with you shortly sir.... mines a double synth with lovage from the replicator", he quipped, and then knelt down upon the hull to continue with the task assigned to him. (Reply Banowsky) (Posted by Alan) (Shuttlecraft Crusader - Command Compartment - Lt. Commander Will Banowsky - 15:11) Will was sitting patiently at the helm of the Crusader. She was holding steadily, which was good, because that allowed Will to keep a constant transporter lock on the two engineers, ready to beam them out in case of an emergency. Ensign Bradley was diligently monitoring the sensors to make sure that nothing was amiss. Suddenly he had a message on the comm. =/\=Are you reading anything.... unusual Lieutenant Commander?=/\=, asked Adams. "I'm not detecting anything out of the ordinary, what about you ensign?" Will replied. Ensign Bradley looked down at his console, looked back up. "Everything is reading fine on my end sir." "We aren't detecting anything unusal Lieutenant, but I will keep you posted. Remember I have a transporter lock on you. If anything goes wrong, I'll get you out of there." Was Will's reply as the comm ended while the two engineers went back to work. But Will would take no chances, "Bradley I want you to scan for any subspace anomalies, I want to make sure this is not just more than a feeling by Lieutenant Adams." "Aye sir," Was the replay as Bradley intensified his scans. (Reply None) (Posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre - Exterior Hull Plating - ACEO, Lieutenant Chris Adams - 15:28) With an inaudible expulsion of gas from the exposed secondary conduit, Adams replaced the broken intermix valve within and then closed the valve off via an electromag seal, thus rendering the supplies safe for now. It was a strange thing to watch, you saw the air exit the system, crystalize into small droplets and then float off into the nothingness, and yet, there was no sound associated with it. Everyone knew what the sound would be of course, it would be a 'hiss'.... In space though, nobody could hear a damned thing. What was that saying? An old Earth movie... In space nobody could here you scream? ~Damn, what am I thinking?~ thought Adams as he replaced the panel and then scratched his leg through the thick armoured EVA suit he wore, cursing the fact that the itch remained! Then he felt the 'breeze' again. "There it is again, that damned breeze!", cried Adams. "I felt nothing", said Talbot as he too closed his second to last panel and then began work on the final one. "Solar winds?", he enquired. "Not here", said Adams, "haven't you noticed? No damned sun nearby", he added as he opened up another panel to begin work, stopping momentarilly in order to contact the shuttle once more. "I think my suit heater is on the blink... why me?", he asked thinking back to the last time this had happened and he had suffered hypothermia. (Reply Banowsky) "Yeah, beats me", said Adams wryly as he returned to the panel access port, which was precisely the moment that everything took a turn for the worst. All at once, the panel began arcing, then it glowed bright blue as Adams jerked back and away from the hull, saved only by his tether it would seem. "Damn, what was that!", he cried. Talbot looked up and then scampered across the hull towards him, then he looked on as the panel shot off and spun into the void like a rectangular frisbee seeking a non existant dog to catch. "It's not supposed to do that", exclaimed Talbot, apparently more in the line of making a joke of it all than scaring himself to death. Adams shook his head. "No shit Sherlock", he exclaimed, just as the blue flashes began again. Adams didn't waste any time and contacted Banowsky once again. "Uh, I think we need to get our asses off of this hull Lieutenant Commander", said Adams, "something isn't right, this is not normal at all.... I've never seen any.........." (Reply Banowsky) The comms had gone dead of course, probably due to the massive electrical discharge that had just enveloped the area upon which the two men were working! Worse though was the fact that both Talbot and Adams were now simply hanging by their tethers, colliding hapazardly with the hull plating as they floated... unconscious! (Reply Banowsky) (Posted by Alan) (Shuttlecraft Crusader - Command Compartment - Lt Cmdr. Will Banowsky - 15:28) Will was aiding Bradley with the sensor scans, the ensign was still a raw recruit, but Will still managed to keep track of the transporter lock, when something came over on the comm system. =/\=I think my suit heater is on the blink... why me?=/\= "Let me check and see if your suit is giving off any spiked readings." Will said as he did a quick scan. "Adams, I don't see anything wrong with the suit, I don't know why your not experiencing the proper heat from the suit." =/\=Yeah, beats me=/\= Came the reply. Will began to monitor the sensor scans with more diligency. He wanted to make sure that nothing was wrong. It was more important now that Adams was experiencing more discomfort out there. However from the window of the shuttle and saw a blue light eminating from the hull. "What the hell? Bradley scan the are of the hull they were working on, tell me what the hell is going on." "Aye sir," was Bradley's reply. Bradley was about to get the results in, when the comm system went off again. =/\=Uh, I think we need to get our asses off of this hull Lieutenant Commander=/\=, said Adams, =/\=something isn't right, this is not normal at all.... I've never seen any........=/\= "Alright, I am retracting the tether right now." Will began to retract the tethers when there was no reply. "Sir," chimed in Bradley, "There was an electrical discharge on the hull, I'm getting dimished life signs from the engineer." "Damn," Will said, knowing now why the two hadn't replied. He quickly changed the transporter destination while keeping the lock on. He quickly detached the tether from the shuttle craft to facilitate the transport and then energized while getting on the comm system. "Crusader to Commander Williams, this is Banowsky." She was working on modifying a virus to attack another virus in the hypothetical threat that the computer had created. "It's all right you know." Amari Riya, the science officer assigned to work with her, was also a researcher, but more for botany than what Michaella was working on. Still laboratory skills translated and they did work pretty well together. "It's not real, just a simulated threat and you made a lot of progress with altering the genes of this virus to attack and eliminate." Michaella nodded in reply then looked at the time. "My daughters will think ill of me for not getting home in time for dinner. It's really the only meal we get a chance to share." The science officer, what was her name? Michaella couldn't rightly remember, just nodded, "I like your daughters. They remind me a little of myself at that age. Especially the one that likes flying so much." "Elizabeth. Yes, she takes after her father." Michaella tried to keep the disapproval out of her voice, but couldn't quite help it. Peeling off her gloves, she dropped them in the 'dirty' area for sterilization and stretched out muscles that were stiff from hunching over the lab stool for the last six hours. "Oh well. If nothing else the skills we're training into the research staff will be worth the effort." Amari Riya, that was her name. Right. "Yeah I suppose. Can you clean up Amari? If I don't get home my children will ..." "Probably program your sonic shower to cold. Go ahead!" Amari waved Michaella away right as one of the petri dishes was accidentally knocked onto the floor. "Go ahead, I've got it Michaella." Amari grinned grabbing the special neutralizing spray they used before cleanups. "Well if you are sure..." Michaella took a couple of steps back and then hurried out, only doing the minimal amount of decontamination procedures. She was running so late... As she hurried through the halls she didn't notice that a tiny bit of the gel from the dish was on her shoe. (Reply T'Vhor, IYW) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Shuttle Bay 1 - Lt. JG Matthew Santiago - 15:33) Matthew waited patiently in the Shuttle Bay for the return of the Crusader. He had recently beamed over from the Humboldt with new orders that Captain Talasario had received, he was certain that Captain T'Vhor would eventually get them, but the communication was that he was supposed to deliver them personally to the Captain, Starfleet didn't want their message getting in the way of the Spectre's repairs, especially with the Borg nearby. Matthew felt a little uneasy being aboard the Spectre, after all, he was one of the Officers who chose to defect with Captain Talasario when the Alacrity defected. He had followed Captain Talasario to the Humboldt and assumed he was going to stay there. But things changed, and like the transfer of other crew to the Spectre his name had popped up and so he transferred. His transfer orders had come in earlier in the day, but when these orders came in, Captain Talasario had asked him to deliver them personally to the crewmember in question as well as to Captain T'Vhor. He had obtained Ensign Bradley's whereabouts from the computer and waited. It was sad to see the two Spectre Engineers injured, and he was hoping they pulled through, but he didn't know them so it was hard to feel sad. As he saw Ensign Bradley exit the shuttle, or who he assumed was Ensign Bradley he began to walk up. He glanced at Lt. Commander Will Banowsky on the way there, a man he had served 5 months with, and a man who he did not like. It wasn't so much that they served on different sides of the civil war, or that Banowsky made Lt. Commander in less than two years while he was in his fourth year of service and only a Lt. Junior Grade, but rather, that he just didn't like the man. Banowsky had no idea of this, the two never socialized. But he guessed they would now have to as once again they were on the same ship. He did not say a word to Banowsky, and as Will left he had reached the Ensign. "Are you Ensign Matthew Bradley?" he asked. "Yes I am.", came the reply. "At no later then 19:00 hours today you are to transfer to the USS Humboldt, were arrangements will be made to transport you to your next assignment. You have been chosen to attend a science seminar at Starbase Geneva for new ensigns that will commence late next month. You are to make arrangements to leave before 19:00 hours and should report to Captain Talasario before you beam over. Is that understood." "Aye sir," was Bradley's reply. Matthew then handed him the PADD with his orders, and as Bradley left, Matthew soaked up his new ship. His transfer now made sense. Bradley was a new recruit to the Spectre, but command had seen fit to recall him to Geneva shortly after, leaving the Spectre short a science officer. The Humboldt was a science ship, it had science officers to spare, and like Captain Talasario had said, command felt that a science officer with tactical experience was something a ship like the Spectre could use. ~Looks like I'm home.~ (reply None) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre – Bridge – CO, Captain T'Vhor - 15:34) The Captain had listened intently to the communication between the First Officer and Lieutenant Commander Banowsky, Williams having direct command of the evolving situation of course. It went without saying though that the bridge had monitored the events outside, and all had been as confused as the two Engineers as to what had actually happened in response to that. Tactical One had indeed monitored a sudden rise in electromagnetic variance along the entire dorsal aspect of the ship, it had seemed to switch polarization over and over but there was no reason for it doing so. It had all resulted in two casualties, Talbot and Adams now having been beamed to sickbay for direct attention. The First Officer seemed pensive, it was obvious where he felt he needed to be and it showed upon his face as he closed the comms and then turned to the Captain. “Captain may I go to sickbay?”, he asked. It was a question that did not need to be asked of course, but the formal atmosphere of a Federation bridge at least demanded such protocol. "Of course Andrew", said the Captain, "do what you can" The First Officer nodded his assent and stood, all seemingly in one fluid motion as though he were on his way before he had even been given permission, the swish of the turbolift doors heralded his departure in an instance and was a testament to the mans commitment if ever there was. The Captain then turned to Ops. "Lieutenant, maintain isolation in all affected hull areas please, have Engineering assess our viability for transit in the first instance... warp or otherwise", he asked. (Reply Chenoll) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Shuttle Bay 1 - Lt. Cmdr Will Banowsky - 15:35) Will had gained clearance to return to the Spectre, and at a nice steady pace, he had brought the Crusader in unharmed. Unfortunately he could not say the same about Lieutenant Adams and Ensign Talbot. But sadly Will had become accustomed to these kinds of occurrences. It had been an interesting two years in the service. There was a civil war, he saw death in freak accidents, but that was all part of the risk of putting on the uniform. A unique sets of circumstances, that if had otherwise not happened, he would not be as veteran an officer as he was now, he would probably just be a recently promoted Lieutenant Junior Grade. Instead he had reached the rank of full Ensign by November of 2406 and was head of two departments and Third Officer during that time, reached the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and Second Officer before the end of 2406. Just a month later in January of 2407, he had reached the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade, and by 2407.02.01 he was a Lt. Commander, one Civil War later and he was more seasoned with 2 more years of service than he would have thought possible. But he had entered in on different times. He was asked to grow up fast. This was something he was used to, but for Ensign Bradley who was as raw as raw could be, it was not. "You alright there ensign?" Will asked as he put his arm on Bradley's shoulder while they walked out of the shuttle. "Yes sir, just feeling a little shaken up." Was the reply. Bradley handled himself well on the shuttle, but he was raw, this was probably the first accident he had seen while in the service. Will understood, he still remembered how helpless he had felt when Lt. Commander Orde had been killed by a saboteur right before his very eyes. Hopefully Ensign Bradley wouldn't blame himself. It wasn't his fault. "Get yourself some rest ensign, it always helps." Will said as he began to walk off to the door, he was headed to the bridge to resume his station as well as converse with the Captain about what had just happened. The official reports had not been filed yet, but with this kind of accident procedures needed to be rushed a little so the correct people could help prevent it from happening again. Some reports were calling the accident an electrical discharge, but another report called it an anomaly. To Calvin he had not read any unusual readings from his panel on the exterior hull near the time of accident until the discharge actually happened. It was as if the discharge gave no warning and just surfaced all at once giving the away team a surprise that they could not have known about. There were two ways to look at this situation. To an engineer this was an electrical accident. It needed to be tested then fixed. To the TAC/ASC this was a threat to the ship and its crew. He also believed it needed to be tested then fixed, but with a little bit more urgency. “Capps to Lt Donaldson,” Calvin called his department head over the comm.. (reply Donaldson) “In regards to the recent accident I have ran a standard interior and exterior scan with the ships computers and it returned inconclusive. The Admiral visibly stiffened up in his seat. =/\=No fatalities I hope=/\= The Captain shook his head, "no sir, Doctor Williams is currently tending them" Jefferson nodded and let out a heavy sigh, then he commented on Williams being of admirable standing and more than capable for the job at hand. =/\=But.... down to business Captain=/\= began the Admiral, his face now showing a certain level of disapproval over what he was about to say. Rogers? the man for the job... what had Brian not told him? At the moment though it was neither here nor there, the order had been made. "Very well sir", said the Captain, "I will contact you again when we have the central plexus" he answered assuredly. Jefferson leant back into his chair, for the first time showing some semblance of a smile. =/\=Good man, I knew we could count on you=/\= he said, reaching for a mug of something or other as he spoke. Captain T'Vhor simply quirked his head to one side at the Admirals words. "I am not a man sir, I am a Vulcan", he said flatly, but of course the logic in his statement was irrefutable as always. =/\=Indeed..... Jefferson out=/\= came the reply, and the screen returned to it's familiar starfleet crest display as the Captain leaned back into his own chair. It was a brief report, not much to say, though it was one of those formalities, as well as evidence and documentation that Will and Ensign Bradley were clear of wrong doing, something that Will, with knowledge of the legal field, wanted to ensure. When he arrived at the bridge, he noticed the absence of Captain T'Vhor, and after asking the officer in charge of the bridge, he headed to the ready room, hoping that he wasn't interrupting anything important. Hearing the go ahead Will entered the ready room, noticing that Captain T'Vhor had a certain look on his face. After being motioned to sit down, Will took a seat and the handed Captain T'Vhor. "Sir here is my report. We took every safety precautions that one would take when undertaking an assignment like this, and though Ensign Bradley was raw, he acted like any other officer would at his position." (reply T'Vhor) "I know it was a freak accident sir, but as the officer in charge, I take full responsibility, I should have pulled them out at the first sign of discomfort by Lieutenant Adams." Will spoke, it was clear he was a bit upset, it was every so often that Will thought of himself as a bad luck charm, in which freak accidents injured or killed capable officers while he was engaged in normal activity or a mission. Though there were two other moments before today, both led to the deaths of Lieutenant Commander Orde, and Lieutenant Thomas Loyola, both freak accidents. In this situation he was confident in Commander Williams abilities. (reply T'Vhor) "I apologize for my emotionalness, I promise it wont interfere with my duties. Don't worry I am good to go." "Lieutenant Commander?", inquired the Captain as Banowsky walked up to his desk, PADD in hand. "Sir here is my report", he said sharply, "we took every safety precautions that one would take when undertaking an assignment like this, and though Ensign Bradley was raw, he acted like any other officer would at his position.", said Banowsky, apparently eager now to show that the accident had not actually been caused by said Ensign's 'Rawness' "Sit down Will", said the Captain, whilst taking the offered PADD containing the report and then activating it accordingly, "blame is not the issue here, I am well aware that you, as an experienced officer will have taken all necessary precautions in the path of your duty", he added. "I know also that what occured was something entirely out of all of our control" Banowsky however still seemed to feel somewhat responsible for what had occurred. "I know it was a freak accident sir, but as the officer in charge, I take full responsibility, I should have pulled them out at the first sign of discomfort by Lieutenant Adams....", said Banowsky, clearly letting his emotions in regards this matter run high right now. It seemed that it was time to address that now... "Lieutenant Commander, please calm yourself", said the Captain, "you are allowing emotion to cloud duty here. As I said, blame is not an issue right now", he added, noting as he spoke that Banowsky 'finally' seemed to still himself as he sat in the chair opposite him. Then he suddenly offered another apology! "I do hope I wasn't interrupting you Captain, I just wanted to get this report filed as soon as I possibly could. Do you have anything you would like to ask sir?", he queried. The Captain paused briefly before answering this. "I do not think that I do Lieutenant Commander", he answered whilst continueing to browse carefully through the report in question. "It would seem that the excursion was by the book and executed in logical procedure, the important thing is that the two crewmen are still alive and currently being tended in our sickbay", he added. (Reply Banowsky) "Understandable", said the Captain as he laid the PADD onto the table, another pressing matter now fixed firmly in his mind. "Lieutenant Commander, Starfleet have tasked us with a new mission to recover the Central Plexus device from the Borg vessel", began the Captain, "as you are no doubt well aware, this will be a mission of extreme risk.... the device itself is well protected and far from easy to remove without correct interface with the Borg themselves", he added. (Reply Banowsky) The Captain nodded. "I would like you, along with Lieutenant Commander Capps and Rogers to be a part of the away team tasked with this, there will be a Marine squad presence of course, but the point man here is apparently Lieutenant Commander Brian Rogers", said the Captain, the name seemingly hanging in the air now immediately after it had been issued. Out of all the science officers on the Humboldt, he had bridge duty more than most of them. But that was because he was more comfortable on the bridge than in a lab or science station. Though unlike any other moment on the bridge he was nervous this time. New bridge, new crew, and he was hoping that no one had known that he served on the USS Alacrity or was at one point part of Doenitz forces. Matthew was a loner sure, was way more happy being by himself, but he didn't want to be a loner because he wasn't trusted by the crew, he wanted to be a loner because he chose to be. Matthew took a survey of the bridge. He figured the first officer was in sickbay because of the whole shuttle incident, and it seemed that the Captain was not on the bridge at the moment. ~Good, no command staff on the bridge. They of all people would know my service record.~ Matthew slowly went over to the science station and releaved the crewman stationed there. Just in case his previous service became an issue, he read their files, it may have seemed stalkerish, but whatever it took to protect his backside. "The Strategic Operations Officer? May I inquire as to why he was asked to lead this mission?", Banowsky had asked. "I am not sure", said the Captain, "Starfleet command specified Mr Rogers above all others... Apparently, he and he alone has the knowledge to deal with what you will find on the Borg ship", he added. The Conn Officer just shrugged his shoulders and responded with a cheery, "When do we depart?" "At the first instance", said the Captain, "the moment the Lieutenant Commander arrives and is briefed, a team will be assembled and you will be on your way", he added. "Do you mind if I wait here until Commander Rogers arrives?", asked Banowsky. The Captain shook his head and then handed his PADD back to him. "Please, feel free to", he answered, "although if I know our StratOps, he will not be in a particular hurry" "Thank you. Sir, do you mind if I ask you something?", asked Will, a look of slight confusion now forming upon his face as he spoke. "Of course, what is on your mind?", said the Captain clasping his hands before him now upon the desk. Banowsky then began with a query regarding why exactly, the CO had chosen him for this mission. "The Central Plexus is partially tied into the Borg primary propulsion control system", said the Captain, as though it were the most obvious reason in the universe, "the Borg assimilate hardware as well as bio-organic material so it is logical to assume that their drive interface will be comparable to most other vessels", he added. "You have extensive knowledge of helm and maneuvering control" (Reply Banowsky, IYW) "In short Will, you are the logical candidate to assist on this mission", said the Captain. He and the others in sickbay had worked hard combining all their medical knowledge into try and saving them but it was to no avail. Lying in front of him was Adams and Talbot. They had not recovered from their unconsciousness and had been moved to ICU where their brain functions were being closely monitored for any sighs of awakening. Not for the first time today had he thought that with all the thousands of years of medical knowledge from all across the galaxy and there were still things they could not cure or treat. ~At least no one has died~ He looked down at the Padd as he finished his notes. Although Adams was looking the better out of the two, He would still need to get them both transferred to the specialised medical facility on Geneva and depending on who got back to Federation space first he might transfer them to the USS Humboldt. There was not a lot more he could do for them now. They needed the specialist care that they could only get from Geneva . Although he still hoped that they would recover. The body and especially the brain had an amazing ability to survive. He looked again at Adams and Talbot they might wake up tomorrow, in the next ten minutes or never. He gave a quiet sigh as he finished his notes. He handed the notes to one of the ICU staff and headed for the door. He needed to get back to the bridge and inform the captain. The Captain shook his head and then handed his PADD back to him. "Please, feel free to", he answered, "although if I know our StratOps, he will not be in a particular hurry" ~So Mr. Rogers is an at his own leisure guy, sounds like my kind of guy~ Will thought to himself. Will liked to take charge at times, but only when he felt it was needed, otherwise he liked to be laid back. "Thank you. "You have extensive knowledge of helm and maneuvering control" "I'd like to think I do, I wrote my academy thesis on Starship propulsion control systems, and from my connections on the grape vine, apparently I've built a reputation as a pretty decent CONN officer." Will replied, trying to acknowledge the Captain's confidence in him. "In short Will, you are the logical candidate to assist on this mission", said the Captain. "If it is compatible with most other vessels, I should have no problem in the recovery of the Central Plexus." Will said, "This would be a great find for the Federation, it could lead to a huge breakthrough in propulsion technology as well as defenses against the borg." (reply T'Vhor) "Either way, this sure beats spending my time on a science ship. Not that I have anything against science, but there is a little bit less excitement, now that, thankfully the war is over." Thought tactical was the best fit, but Captain Talasario felt my skills would be more useful in the science department. With it came a promotion, I didn't refuse. I would follow Talasario anywhere... He was a good captain to us on the Humboldt." ~Nice save there Matt, nice save~ “Is everything ok Lt?” Calvin ventured to ask. "I'm fine sir, I'm just getting used to the new crew and the new surroundings, is the uh ummm anything I can help you with sir? “I can understand. No there is nothing I require at this time. I just wanted to meet with a fellow bridge officer. I will see you around,” Calvin replied. "I'll be right here sir, doing my job, if you need anything just let me know." Matthew focused on the console as Capps turned and returned to the Ops console. He was really hoping that no one found out that he served on the Alacrity, at least not yet. But he just couldn't keep it bottled up anymore, as if he was lying to himself. In his mind Captain JT Talasario was a good man, and he would follow Captain Talasario to the far reaches of the Delta Quadrant and back, no hesitation. However he was no longer a member of Talasario's crew, he was out of his element, and he was going to have to learn to adjust. Even if it took him out of his comfort zone. Matthew continued looking at sensor readouts when the First Officer walked on to the bridge. ~The first officer, damn, that means that he probably has read my file, meaning that, I am going to get spotted at any time.~ Matthew tried to avoid eye contact but there was nothing he could do when the Commander approached him. “Lieutenant. Have you transferred from the Humboldt?” "Yes sir, I transferred over earlier today." Matthew said with a fake smile. Andrew nodded. “You are working with Lieutenant Riya and Ensign Styg. You will learn a lot from them both. I am sure you will enjoy you time on board and if you have any questions my door is always open.” "Thank you sir, I am sure I will and I will be sure to stop by." he said, with that fake, yet sincere looking smile ~Yeah, except I probably wont be stopping by.~ "I'm sure I will learn a lot from them sir. Once I get adjusted to the Spectre and her crew of course" Matthew said, he almost wished it was Commander Capps he was speaking to, at least when he talked to him he could hide his past allegiances, he was pretty sure Commander Williams knew. We have a good crew here you will adjust quickly.” "Is there anything I can assist you with sir?" “No Lieutenant just wanted to introduce my self. Carry on with what you were doing.” Andrew gave the Santiago another smile and walked back to the command chair. As he sat down he ran the conversation that he had just had with the new Lieutenant. He may have not been a command officer for long but his time as a doctor has taught him a lot about people’s body language also about when people were saying one thing but meaning another. He was not sure about Santiago there was just something he could not put his hand on. He understood that new crewmembers found that joining a new ship was nerve racking but there was something else. He had read Santiago ’s file and was not worried about that but he would keep an eye on the new Lieutenant. He looked over at the ready room door and wondered what the Captain was talking to Banowsky and Rogers. He knew that the Captain would tell him if he needed to know but he just did not like being out of the loop. ~Well he will tell me if I need to know. So stop going on about it~ Andrew pulled him self from his thoughts and concentrated on what was happening on the bridge around him. "If it is compatible with most other vessels, I should have no problem in the recovery of the Central Plexus", said Banowsky before continueing on with a remark as to how great it would be if they could actually pull this one off and give the Federation the technological information the plexus would no doubt provide. The Captain simply nodded and then brought the fingers of his hands together before him in contemplation of this. "Indeed", he answered, "in all the time we have fought with the Borg, we have not yet been able to secure their most sensitive equipment for evaluation.... they always initiate self destruct before we manage to get to it, until now that is", he added. "Either way, this sure beats spending my time on a science ship. Not that I have anything against science, but there is a little bit less excitement, now that, thankfully the war is over." Pausing briefly, he sighed, and approached the tactical station. "Lt Commander Capps, I need you to come with me, an urgent away mission. Please follow me to the Marine Staging area. Calvin was taken aback by the sudden interruption by Lt Cmdr Banowsky. As the two of them talked Calvin wondered more about this mystery mission. ~What possibly could be so urgent and what could have came up out of nowhere and what was said in that ready room.~ The Lt Cmdr followed orders without hesitation and he was doing so now, but the longer he had to wait for further information the more his blood began to boil. As soon as Will finished his conversation with Kowalski he turned to Capps. "Banowsky out, now then Commander, I'll explain more as we get there, but this is a matter of grave importance to the Federation. We are essentially raiding the Borg ship and taking their central plexus." ~What!~ At that instant a feather could have knocked Lt Cmdr Capps over. He stood in the turbolift perplexed and it seemed suddenly he came out of a trance. “You speak as if this is a sure thing, a walk in and walk out mission.” "Ya, it will be dangerous, but hey, it's why we wear the uniform. Now then we need another tactical officer, suggestions?" Calvin knew it was a little unorthodox but he had remembered a new officer just coming aboard. “Ensign Zh’thaan just boarded. He was highly recommended by the Academy Staff.” "Sounds good to me,” Will contacted Ensign Zh’thaan. Once again Calvin was left to his thoughts but now he had more to think about than he wished. He tried to think back to everything he knew about a Borg’s Central Plexus. Capps personally had dealt with the Borg on a number of occasions, and had even entered a Borg ship before but not for this reason. A Borg’s Central Plexus was maybe the most guarded equipment on a Borg ship. For this reason alone it was dangerous. If the team did get pass the maze of corridors leading up to it, the corridors filled with force fields, and the overrides they still had to pass all the Borg they would activate once the Central Plexus was reached. "Well then, do you have any questions Commander?" Will asked right as the turbo lift stopped. Calvin walked out of the turbolift behind Will. He certainly had a lot of questions. He took two long steps ahead of Lt Cmdr Banowsky and turned his body to be face to face with the officer. “Is there a plan?,” Calvin asked with his eyes open wide and staring deeply into Will’s. (reply Capps) "Anyways, I'm going to dispense with the formalities right now since we are about to do something that has never been done before, obtaining a Central Plexus, I hope Calvin, that my plan, or lack of a concrete one doesn't make you nervous, because I have all confidence that we should be able to pull it off." (reply Capps iyw) "Now then, lets wait by the door to the briefing room for Mr. Zh'Thaan, when he gets here we will go inside and get this so called party started." (reply Capps iyw) Will then headed to the door, leaned his back against the wall and sighed. ~Today is not a good day to die.~ (Reply Capps, Zh'Thaan when he shows up) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre – Deck 16 – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 16:22) "I wish you would have asked me that question later," Will said with a sigh, "The lead of this mission was originally Lieutenant Commander Rogers, he is incapacitated at the moment, so I guess I was the right place, or wrong place, at the right or wrong time, and was given lead of this mission. As for the plan, we will have the marines clear the way for us, they've been over there, they know the layout best.. Once we get to the room with the Central Plexus, I'll begin to remove the plexus, while a perimeter is created to secure the area." “That sounds like a plan for a mission not so dangerous. Forgive me Commander but I feel some more planning needs to be done.” Calvin wondered if there was some type of time restraint against the away team and that was why they were rushing into this mission. "I know that sounds too easy, but it's all I have right now, I've been in charge of this mission for roughly 7 minutes. When we meet up with Major Kowalski, I'm hoping to get something more concrete. I guess what I am saying is right now, the plan is don't die." Calvin slowed his breathing down and his heart rate. It was clear to him now that he had jumped the gun. Will also thought more planning needed to be done and he was going to do just that. “Forgive my haste Will, I will began to gather as much information as I can myself. I will prepare some suggestions and questions for the briefing.” "Anyways, I'm going to dispense with the formalities right now since we are about to do something that has never been done before, obtaining a Central Plexus, I hope Calvin, that my plan, or lack of a concrete one doesn't make you nervous, because I have all confidence that we should be able to pull it off." “Of course I am nervous, but about the whole situation,” Calvin tone shrunk down a little into a more of a conversation and not so speedy. “Anybody who would not be nervous would be insane. I also believe in our team, and I am ready to go.” "Now then, lets wait by the door to the briefing room for Mr. Zh'Thaan, when he gets here we will go inside and get this so called party started." Calvin followed Lt Cmdr Banowsky to the door and waited as well. However at the door he tapped his combadge. “Capps to Rock” =/\=Rock here sir. What can I do for you?=/\= “Bring me any and all schematics of the Borg vessel along with any material you can find about a Borg’s Central Plexus which would include any past attempts to attain the Central Plexus. If you need security clearance go through Lt Donaldson. Bring it down to the Marine Briefing room. I need this now.” =/\=Aye sir, I will get a squad on it.=/\= “Capps out.” Calvin waited by the door now with his thoughts only on how to make this mission a success. It was going to be hard, dangerous, and it was crazy but deep down in Calvin’s gut this was exciting. (reply any!!) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre – Marine Briefing Room – Lt Cmdr Capps & CPO Rock – 16:29) Rock raced down the corridor with a PADD in his hands. His arms swung back and forth at a rapid pace. His face focused and trained. He wanted to make it to the Lt Cmdr faster but he had to be pleased with himself and his team. He and his squad were able to get the list of information the ASC asked for in under 5 minutes. As a reward he wasn’t going to make the newbies run this afternoon. CPO Rock made it to the room finally and walked through the doors that automatically opened when Jaret was close enough to them. He found Capps, Banowsky and some Marines already talking so he quietly inched his way to Capps. He extended the PADD over. “Here you are sir. We have already highlighted important areas of the Borg ship and the essentials of a Borg Central Plexus.” Calvin took the PADD and opened it immediately and read it. Calvin knew most of the information on the PADD. He just wanted to confirm it with facts. “Thank you Chief, stay for the briefing and advise us on anything you may feel the need to.” Calvin ordered. He knew that Chief Rock had 2 decades of time with Starfleet and may know a thing or two about this subject. (reply any, none) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre – Marine Briefing Room – Lieuntenat Commander Will Banowsky – 16:32) After unfortunate news that Ensign Zh'Thaan was not fit to go on the away mission, Will had a tough decision. It seemed like there was some kind of bug going around the ship. So he decided that, as time was of the essence, that the only non marine officers to go on the mission would be himself and Commander Capps. They were two experienced officers so they should be able to handle it, though like Major Kowlaski alluded to eaerlier, it would be no walk in the park. Looking around the briefing room Will noticed that all the major players were there and seated. Will was a tad nervous, he had led a mission briefing since he was on the Dennison, but this wasn't the time for him to get cold feat. "Well then, as of 15.50 hours Captain T'Vhor recieved a message from the fleet ordering us to go on to the borgh ship and secure the Central Plexus and bring back to the Spectre for further study by Starfleet. They felt that this was an opportunity that they couldn't pass up." Will paused and sighed, so far so good. "Originally this mission was to be led by our Strat Ops Officer, Lieutneant Commander Rogers, unfortunately he has become ill, and is not able to lead this mission. So, since I was the one asked to actually remove the Central Plexus, it fell on me to lead." ~Easier sad then done.~ "Major Kowalski, you have been over on the borg ship previously, because of that you and your team are going to be valuable assets to the mission. The awat team is to consist of your team Major, as well as Commander Capps and myself. Your team is to lead the way for us, as well as to provide weapons support in case anything goes wron. Commander Capps will provide me with tactical support, as well as, since I believe you were a former OPS officer commander, in aiding me in removing the plexus." Will paused again, "Major, since you have the most experience on the borg ship, I would like you to recommend the insertion point on to the ship. Also, since we will be relying on your team, even though I am leading this mission, any advice you offer would be much appreciated." (reply Kowalski) "Now before we get to the data that Commander Capps requested, I'd like to open the floor to questions." (reply Kowalski, Capps, Rock, any Marine) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre – Marine Briefing Room – MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski and Cprl Lewis O'Hara – 16:35) The Marine Executive Officer had remained silent throughout Banowsky's briefing, he had stayed precisely where he was, sitting upon the edge of a table, half on, half off, his arms crossed before him as he listened intently. There was something about this man that worried him slightly, it wasn't anything to do with his abilities as such, in fact Kowalski had no doubts whatsoever about his abilities as a Starfleet officer, it was just that when it came to logistical nasties such as this particular mission, he felt that the fleeters should just stay well away and let the Marines get on with their job of making it safe. After that, they could all come and join the party! As it was though, Banowsky had just finished his brief and had handed over the floor for questions. "I have a question for you Lieutenant Commander", said Kowalski wasting no time now, "I don't want to seem impertinent here but.... Is this your first away team command?" (Reply Banowsky) "Have you ever even been on a Borg vessel?", asked the MXO. (Reply Banowsky) "It's hot, it's sticky and it's bloody dangerous", said Kowalski, "some of the walkways are off limits due to atmospheric breach, the locals have not been entirely accounted for and things have a nasty tendency to slice and quarter the human body if it's sensed in an area too close to the Central Plexus", he added. (Reply Banowsky) O'Hara then chirped in with a raised hand. "There is now one local unaccounted for, I toasted one of the two that were missing when he tried to needle the CO earlier", said the Demo man. "But there's always the chance of reinforcements coming from afar I guess", he added. Kowalski turned towards the Marine as though not expecting his input. "Thank you O'Hara, I'm sure we'll remember that", he said before returning to the briefing itself. "So", said Kowalski, "what do we have that is solid in regards this lump?" (Reply Capps, Banowsky, Any) Lieutenant Commander Capps then produced the PADD given to him by CPO Rock earlier. (Reply Capps) Kowalski nodded and then motioned to O'Hara who was currently leaning against the wall scrutinizing the end of his III C. "I want you to study this layout, find any weak points and work out where best to site charges if we need to use them", said the MXO. O'Hara took the PADD and glanced it over, nodding appropriately as he did so. "I'll tell you what, why not go EVA, plant charges externally and then blow the hull and let the damn central plex or whatever it's called, fall out and into space, then we can just tractor in", said O'Hara, "or better still, blow the friggin ship to bits, if the thing we're after is so tough, would'nt it just escape any damage?", he added. Kowalski shook his head. "Numb nuts", he muttered, "any attempt to remove metal, by explosive charge or otherwise from the surrounding network in order to get to what we are after, will result in self destruct of the central plexus.... So no, go back to sleep", he added. O'Hara shrugged his shoulders. "Hey, it was a joke... can't anyone take a joke around here anymore", he moaned as he placed the PADD on the table and then sat frowning to study it further. Lieutenant Commander Capps then gave his own input to the problem, which for a fleeter, was surprisingly well thought out, thought the MXO. (Reply Banowsky, Capps, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Marine Briefing Room – Lt. Commander Will Banowsky – 16:36) "I have a question for you Lieutenant Commander", said Kowalski wasting no time now, "I don't want to seem impertinent here but.... Is this your first away team command?" Will was frowning from the inside, this was a question he was hoping he wasn't going to be asked. "Yes Major, this is is my first away team command." Will replied, there was more he wanted to say, to tell the Major that this "Fleeter" was up to snuff. "Have you ever even been on a Borg vessel?", asked the MXO. "No major, I have never been on a Borg vessel." Will was trying not to show visible signs of frustration with the Major, but he particularly didn't care for him right now. ~Keep it cool Will, you need him right now so the mission will be a success.~ "It's hot, it's sticky and it's bloody dangerous", said Kowalski, "some of the walkways are off limits due to atmospheric breach, the locals have not been entirely accounted for and things have a nasty tendency to slice and quarter the human body if it's sensed in an area too close to the Central Plexus", he added. "Well Major, looks like it is a good thing you are coming along." Will said trying to keep his emotions in check. O'Hara then chirped in with a raised hand. "So", said Kowalski, "what do we have that is solid in regards this lump?" "I believe Commander Capps, had some information he wished to ad." Lieutenant Commander Capps then produced the PADD given to him by CPO Rock earlier. Will then sat intently and listened as the team assembled began to discuss the events detailing the mission. He took mental notes and listened as closely as he could. The mission might not be easy, and he had to deal with the attitudes of the Marines toward the so called "fleeters", but Will would manage, he always found a way to get along with those who crossed his path. This wouldn't be any different. If he wanted to survive, he had to let Kowalski be Kowlaski, and do whatever it takes to complete the mission. After everyone had finished he stood up. "Alright, this is our mission it wont be simple, it wont be easy, but some how, some way, the fleet expects us to get the Central Plexus. Unfortunately time is of the essence. You may think I'm being hasty, but, we need to take advantage of the fact that the "locals" are mostyl taken care of. With that said, I want us all to reconvene in transport 5 in fifteen minutes, until then get whatever supplies you need. Dismissed." Will didn't leave any room for discussion, he had enough of the Major's attitude for now, and he was sure it was going to come up more once they were on the borg ship. (Reply None) (Posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre – Marine Briefing Room – Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 16:37) Calvin sat with his heart still beating faster than normal. He listened to what Will had to say to the upcoming mission. This mission was going to be dangerous and it was going to require team work from each department that was represented here. After a little bit of background of the mission and what needed to be done Lt Cmdr Banowsky turned it over to questions. Calvin didn’t at the time have any questions that needed to be answered right away. He continued to look at his PADD. Once the questions were over the floor was then turned over to Capps. “As previously mentioned from our Marine XO the Central Plexus is located deep into the center of the Borg ship. We will not be able to beam directly at the Central Plexus which is no surprise to anyone since the object we are taking is the most guarded piece of equipment on the ship. In past attempts and from the Marines personal experience over there it seems we will have to beam 150 meters away from the central plexus.” “From there we will then have to make our way through 3 to 5 force fields in between our beam point and the room the Central Plexus is located. We are unsure of the exact number because no one has ever made it to the Central Plexus before.” “After we deactivate the first force field and bring part of that power grid offline, in the past, this has alerted the Borg and they will activate counter measures including sending Borg after us. So we must be prepared for that. Once the first force field is off line we will be able to get through the rest the same way but faster because the rest of the force fields are powered by the same power grid.” “Once we make it to the Central Plexus we will…….well. We will have to think fast and use our expertise to take it out. This has never been accomplished before so I can’t say for sure what exactly we need to do to remove it.” “At that point we will have more Borg on hour heels than at any other time. I need some of the Marines to setup transporter enhancers as well as defending us. Once the Central Plexus is removed we will be able to beam out because at that point the force field power grid will be offline entirely.” (reply Kowalski, Banowsky, any Marine, any) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Personal Quarters - TAC/SC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 16:40) Chuck reached out and rang the door chime. (Reply None) (Posted by Will Banowsky) (Borg Vessel - 150 meters from Central Plexus - Lt. Commander Banowsky - 17:02) A quick head count, and Will noticed that all were present. He looked first at Commander Capps to see how his fellow "fleeter" was doing, and then took a quick survey of the readiness of his marine escort. His nerves were a little shaky, hs heart was racing, and his stomach was full of butterflies. But he was here to do a job, and a job is what he was going to do. "Major, lead the way." (reply Kowalski) (reply Capps, Kowalski, O'Hara, Sykes, Houseman, Ramirez) (posted by Will Banowsky) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Two - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 17:03) The light bouncing off the interior walls of the ante-chamber they had beamed into had dissipated almost as quickly as it had begun, the blue photonic glow of reconstituting molecules assembling once more into human form before each stepped forwards and towards the dank, dimly lit corridor ahead of them. Banowsky had paused briefly, obviously taking in his surroundings, then he gave the order for the Major to proceed. Kowalski pursed his lips and took a deep breath, then he nodded and signalled his men to adopt a standard recon/assault pattern, beginning at the exit of the room itself.Weapons were raised and at the ready of course, the Marines moving into the corridor and scanning for targets ahead of them, whilst relying upon proximity alerts for anything that might come from someplace else. Throughout the place, a low hum could be heard as the Borg reactor idled at a level that maintained lighting, but hindered anything else like powered flight. It was just as well the Marines had disconnected the drive plates earlier, otherwise they might be in a whole different ballgame now. Not that this one wasn't difficult enough of course! Five minutes on though and the Marine team had not yet encountered anything untoward, no missing locals, no exploding booby traps, nothing. Kowalski looked back at Banowsky and Capps, both seemed pensive but dilligent, each with their phasors at the ready and seemingly expecting the remaining Borg drone to leap out at them at any time. It was both tense, and claustrophobic in the corridors and Kowalski would be glad when they were in an area less... constricting, and less humid. He looked to Banowsky as he wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead, the heat of the place obviously uncomfortable for him now. "You OK Lieutenant Commander?", asked Banowsky. (Reply Banowsky, Capps, Any) "It gets to you doesn't it, apparently the humidity keeps the drones pleasantly acclimatized..... doesn't do a lot for those of us still alive though", said the MXO jokingly. (Reply Banowsky, Capps, IYW) O'Hara then raised his hand up ahead to signal them all to hold position. As the point man, he controlled all forward motion towards their objective and the hand raise had just informed them that their outermost marker had been reached. Now it was time to let the fleeters delve into the circuitry and release the first of the forcefields.... and everyone, the MXO included was now on tenterhooks. (Reply Banowsky, Capps) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Sickbay – Dr. Michaella Kirien – 17:04) About two hours later after Michaella had left the research area, the first cases were coming into sickbay. Small colds were normal for people who went on away missions as bodies that were used to the perfect climate of the ships and space stations were shocked by the changes. It was normal. So she didn't think much of it as first someone from engineering drifted in with sniffles, then someone from security. As the time passed into two hours more people were coming in, complaining from flu like symptoms. A computer core technician was running a fever, which normal medications didn't seem to help lower. As she looked around sickbay, almost every bed was taken up by someone. "Dr. Kirien to Dr. Williams. Sir, I think you need to come down to sickbay. Something is up, and I don't know what." Not all of these people had been on the away mission. Some like the computer technician rarely left the chilled area that the core was in. (reply Williams) What did all these people have in common and why were they all getting so ill so quickly? "Nurse, we need to type what strain of virus this is. I don't like what I'm seeing." The Nurse reassured Kirien that it was already being taken care of. Michaella looked up as another person came in, this one coughing. She hurried over with a hypospray to ease the congestion. Commander Will Banowsky - 17:08) For five minutes or so, that for Will seemed like a life time. He had never been anywhere like it. Though the heat was uncomfortable, it was bearable, though he was wishing that he was wearing something cooler right now. His phaser was drawn, his tool kit in his left hand. They kept pressing forward, and so far they were without incident, however Will was very much on edge. "You OK Lieutenant Commander?" the major asked while Will wiped away sweat from his forehead.. "Nothing that a cold shower won't fix when we get back to the Spectre." He said trying to sound positive, but it was clear that the humidity was getting to him. (reply Capps if you wish) "It gets to you doesn't it, apparently the humidity keeps the drones pleasantly acclimatized..... doesn't do a lot for those of us still alive though", said the MXO jokingly. "Truer words have never been spoken Major." Will said glad to see that the Major was able to keep a sense of humor at these times. (reply Capps iyw) O'Hara then raised his hand up ahead to signal them all to hold position. As the point man, he controlled all forward motion towards their objective and the hand raise had just informed them that their outermost marker had been reached. "Alright then time to take the force field down." Will said as he knelt down, opening his tool kit, he quickly, yet cautiously started to disable the force field. It took him a little bit to get it down, but he was glad to see his OPS skills were not as rusty as he thought they were. With the forcefield down, he was certain that the tension would rise. Looking at the away team, he could tell that most of the away team was not as nervice as him, even 2nd. Lieutenant Sykes, who was the youngest Marine Officer on the Spectre seemed calmer than him. But Will was fine with it, he was a "fleeter" and he would do his "fleeting" job, and once they were done, maybe he would have the majors respect. "Don't worry Commander Capps," he said as he closed his kit and stood up. "I'll let you get the next one." (reply Capps) "Alright then, O'Hara, once the major gives the signal, start moving again." Will then looked at the Major, awaiting his order. (reply Kowalski) (Reply Capps, Kowalski, and Marines) (posted by Will Banowsky) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Two – Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps - 17:09) The Borg ship experience was exactly like it was the first time Capps visited a Borg ship. It was hot, humid, large, and concerning. The fact that this particular Borg ship had no known Borg aboard meant nothing to the Lt Cmdr. In his last experience the Borg were able to gather in packs and appear from places that didn’t seem possible. "You OK Lieutenant Commander?" the major asked. Calvin wasn’t for certain exactly which Lt Cmdr the major was speaking to but the question could have been asked to both. "Nothing that a cold shower won't fix when we get back to the Spectre,” replied Lt Cmdr Banowsky. Calvin looked up at the Major, smiled and nodded his head with out a word. He wanted to just continue along the path. He gripped his phaser a little tighter in his hand. He watched the Marines in front of him gazing and tactfully maneuvering through the confined corridor. "It gets to you doesn't it, apparently the humidity keeps the drones pleasantly acclimatized..... doesn't do a lot for those of us still alive though", said the MXO jokingly. "Truer words have never been spoken Major." Will said glad to see that the Major was able to keep a sense of humor at these times. There was no need for Calvin to join in the fun. He was more interested in the inner workings of the Borg ship. Even though he had been on one prior he didn’t have much time to study the interior technology. Calvin was in awe of the sight. Suddenly a force field could be seen and Lt Cmdr Capps knew it was their first check point. When the clear was given by the Marines in front, Calvin and Will moved ahead of them and toward the force field. "Alright then time to take the force field down,” said Banowsky as he knelt to work on the circuit unit. Calvin stood behind Will as he worked. He constantly looked over the Lt Cmdr’s shoulder peering into the unit. Will worked fast and Capps saw little to no mistakes. Faster than the Security officer would have thought the force field was down. "Don't worry Commander Capps," he said as he closed his kit and stood up. "I'll let you get the next one." “Only sounds fair,” Calvin quipped back. “But before we continue lets be certain.” Lt Cmdr Capps removed a silver solid ball from a kit that he was carrying. The ball fit in his hand perfectly. He lowered his arm and rolled the ball slowly through the force field. Nothing happened. “Booby traps!,” Calvin explained. But he had other matters to take care, he needed to get a check up, as a transfer he needed to get a recent up to date medical record on file. As he walked into the sickbay he noticed that it was overflowing with people. ~Damn, of all the time to come get my check up.~ He was a little confused, but he walked up to the officer who seemed to be in charge. Right now however due to the hectic business of sickbay, little strands were escaping, flying everywhere. She brushed some of them back as she talked the officer who'd presented himself at a most inopportune time. "I'm sorry now isn't a good time." She glanced over at the door as another patient was brought in. She then peered at his uniform, a little cross eyed as she did so. "You said Science?" She didn't wait for an answer and dragged him by the arm towards the back of sickbay, where two nurses were working. "Here. Sit. Work with them." She then, literally, ran back to the front of the sickbay without waiting for a response. It was within her rights to dragoon others into helping deal with what was seeming to become a major medical emergency. ((reply Santiago, any)) (posted by Mel :-) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Two – Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps - 17:14) So far the away mission was going as well as expected which made Calvin even more nervous. Murphy’s Law seemed oddly relevant at this point. Calvin looked down at his weapon, and it gave him a serene feeling. The go ahead from the Major was given of course and the away team moved down the corridor to its next stopping point. Between the first and second checkpoint no Borg or security alarms sounded or activated that any member of the away team could tell. Much like the first checkpoint the Marines up front gave a clear signal and then Will and Calvin moved forward to the force field. As Will had promised after the first force field, he allowed Calvin to kneel down in front of the board. Calvin carefully removed it as Will did the first. The Lt Cmdr paused and noticed something on the force field that he didn’t notice on the first one. He was able to hear the humming that was being emitted from the field. This was odd to him but continued to work on deactivating the force field. After a few minutes of work, much to Capps’ surprise again, the force field was deactivated, but he wanted to be sure. “Check,” Calvin called to Lt Cmdr Banowsky so that his work may be cleared. (reply Banowsky) As the team geared up to go through Calvin was uneasy of how these tasks were being accomplished with out any trouble. His ear then caught the humming noise of what he thought was the force field. “Does anyone hear that?” (reply Kowalski, Banowsky, any, all) “It’s a humming noise. Similar to a force field. No one go through yet.” Calvin looked around the field and saw nothing visible. He then took out the solid silver ball and rolled toward the field slowly. The ball rolled toward the field and it was suddenly stopped and frozen into place by a once invisible field. Around the ball were very strong electric currents visible by electricity streaks similar to lightning bolts in an ion storm. It was a booby trap. (reply Kowalski, Banowsky, any, all) Lt Cmdr Capps moved to the board again and searched it. In a secondary port that was hidden behind the first port, ehich was not noticeable unless you were looking for it, was another board for the field they were now facing. It was similar to the first so Calvin deactivated it just the same. The electric current let the ball go and it rolled onward away from the field. It was only the beginning of their trouble. As Capps packed the tools back into the tool kit a red light began to flash overhead of the field. (reply Kowalski, Banowsky, any, all) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - Lt. Before Matthew could protest, the Doctor had already gone to the front of Sickbay, of course he wasn't gonna just sit here, and not even know what he was doing, beside he was clueless when it came to medicine. He stood up and headed back to the Doctor his face was stern and grumpy looking. "Excuse me, but what do you think you are doing?" (reply Kirien) "Damnit woman, I'm a Tactical Scientist not a Doctor!" You need to go to sickbay and get treated.” Before the crewman could protest he slipped an arm around his back and helped him up to his feet. (Reply None) (Posted by robbie) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Two – Lt Cmdr Will Banowsky - 17:17) As they progressed further down the path to the Central Plexus, Will was becoming more and more agitated. To say that he was becoming jumpy would be an understatement. The fact of the matter was, Will had made a conscious effort to keep his finger off the trigger. To say that one startling noise might cause him to accidentally fire would be a correct assessment of the nervousness he was feeling. But all seemed ok for now, but he was certain it wouldn't stay that way.. Much like the first checkpoint the Marines up front gave a clear signal and then Will and Calvin moved forward to the force field. As Will had promised after the first force field he allowed Calvin to kneel down in front of the board. Calvin carefully removed it as Will did the first. Will stood patiently as he waited for Lt Commander Capps to clear the second force field, he kept trying to convince himself that everything was gonna be fine, and that the minute he got back on the Spectre and debriefed, he was going to go and prepare, or rather have the replicator prepare as he didn't have the time, resources, and materials needed to grill, his dad's famous brisket recipe, and that all those stationed on the Spectre would be able to enjoy, a victory feast. Of course then his mind drifted to Lt. Adams and Ensign Talbot. ~Perhaps maybe this isn't the occasion to bust out the brisket.~ “Check,” Calvin called to Will, ending his brief day dream, so that Will could look over the work. "It looks disabled, alright then, shall we press onwards?" As the team geared up to go through Commander Capps spoke up, “Does anyone hear that?” "Something faint, but I'm not entirely sure, my minds playing tricks one me. What about you major, anything." (Reply Kowalski) “It’s a humming noise. "Damn, good call Commander." Will said relieved that Calvin had caught it before anyone had gone through. Lt Cmdr Capps moved to the board again and searched it. In a secondary port that was hidden behind first port, but was not noticeable unless you were looking for it, was another board for the field they were now facing. It was similar to the first so Calvin deactivated it just the same. The electric current let the ball go and it rolled onward away from the field. It was only the beginning of their trouble. As Capps packed the tools back into the tool kit a red light began to flash over head of the field. "Major, shall we keep moving." (reply Kowalksi) "Alright then, lets keep going." Will said, trying to sound all tough and official. But in reality, he was scared out of his mind. He was thankful that the only one to get shocked was Capps' silver ball, but it could have easily been O'Hara. They continued along, and it seemed the further they progressed, the deeper they went down the corridor to the Central Plexus chamber, the tenser the away team got. Will noticed several times, that Second Liuetenant Sykes, who was bringing up the rear, had a visible look of worry on his face. However, Sykes was doing his best to hide it, as was Will. He didn't want the Major to think that this "fleeter" was a coward. The mood was tense, not many words were being spoken amongst the away team. Of course with the humidty, it was hard enough to breath easily without speaking. To Will unnecessary chatter would be more trouble than it was worth. When they arrived at the next forcefield, O'Hara gave the signal. It was Will's turn to disbale the forcefield and booby traps. He knelt down and opened the tool kit. He knelt down and surveyed the area he would be working in. He noticed three ports in total. Thanks to the example of Capps, Will slowly, steadily and surely, disabled all three of the ports, to make sure everything would be off, he even double checked to see if he missed anything. Standing up, he wiped sweat from his eyes. "Commander Capps, check and see if the way is clear." (reply Capps) As the ball rolled clear, Will sighed, however, he couldn't shake this weird troubling feeling. Looking at the group, and specifically Capps and the Major, he spoke. "Do you ever get the feeling, that you are being watched?" (reply Capps, Kowalski) (reply Capps, Kowalski, Marines) (posted by Will Banowsky) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Two - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski and Cprl Lewis O'Hara - 17:19) So far, so good. It seemed that the two fleeters knew their stuff when it came to taking down forcefields and the MXO could only feel thankful that Capps had brought his little metal ball with him, otherwise, any one of them could have been toast right now. Kowalski knew inside though that the worst was yet to come though, for the nearer they got to the Central Plexus, the more difficult the challenge would be to successfully incapacitate each forcefield. Needless to say, they continued on regardless, irrespective of the reported hum coming from all around them. Banowsky had queried that with the Major already, he in turn had indeed heard it but had recommended moving ahead anyway with the advisory to O'Hara to look out for anything out of the ordinary. Well, that was a laugh in itself, nothing at all in this place was exactly ordinary so what was he to look our for? A little further ahead though and Banowsky was becoming more and more creeped out. "Do you ever get the feeling, you are being watched?", he asked. MXO Kowalski turned his head to face him, noting as he did so that Banowsky was looking anywhere but directly at him right now as he scanned the walls, the floor and even the ceiling itself. "This is a Borg ship Lieutenant Commander, it bristles with sensor arrays to keep track of it's locals..... you ARE being watched", said the Marine. "Just be thankful that nobody is actually watching the monitors" (Reply Banowsky, Any, IYW) "I can assure you that if this ship were still fully crewed, we would not have come this far", said Kowalski, "it would seem that Starfleet know this to, otherwise they would never have sent us on this hair-brained mission in the first place" (Reply Banowsky) Needless to say, this did not seem to make either of the two Starfleet officers feel any better, and the next puzzle was right up ahead. O'Hara made the call again and the fleeters again went into action. This time though, things had escalated in trickiness. Within a second of his call, O'Hara had been struck by a beam of some sort that appeared to be scanning him from toe to head as it traversed upwards across his body. "Whoops", said O'Hara freezing now on the spot, "something tells me this thing ain't getting ready to take my picture" (Reply Any) All at once, everyone was at alert One status so to speak, each of the Marines now on one knee so as to present the least possible aspect for targetting to anything that might want to target them. As for poor old O'Hara, he could do little else but stand completely still! "Guys... I could use some constructive help or advise here", he said, trying his best now to remain calm as the beam came to a stop at his head and then quite literally, 'wrapped' a neon blue forcefield around his body to hold him in one place. The beam then began searching out other possible targets. "Guys!", hollered O'Hara. "Anytime will do, the lights are pretty to watch but I'm gonna tire of them before long I can assure you", he added as he remained rigid and immobile. Michaella turned back to the man, an annoyed look on her face. She'd been helping a nurse assist the patient on the bed, and had a hypospray in her hand. "Listen here." She spoke. "I told you to sit there and do what I told you to do. Had you listened to a superior officer and obeyed my order, you would know what is going on." "Damnit woman, I'm a Tactical Scientist not a Doctor!" "I don't care what you are. You have laboratory skills. And I gave you an order." "Listen, I don't want to argue with you, alright, I understand if your swamped, but next time if you want my help, ask before you drag me somewhere and leave me like a lost puppy. Now then, what exactly do you need me to do, and I'll do it." Matthew was visibly frustrated but he didn't exactly want to pick a fight. Michaella rolled her eyes heavenward and counted to twenty as someone began hacking across the sickbay. "I do not care what you feel, think or do. Now get your skinny tail back over there and help my nurse and doctor with this or get the hell out of my sickbay." Her pretty blue eyes flashed dangerously and Michaella resembled a thunder cloud. Didn't this boy get it? "I will be reporting this to your supervisor as soon as I figure out exactly why this ship is spontaneously getting the flu." Michaella turned and stomped away. A nurse snickered at the scene, then turned back to a patient. "Slow, deep breaths." The nurse spoke softly. There was no way he was getting out of sick bay now so he might as well get used to it. The nurses motioned him over to a microscope allowing him to view the image of the supposed flu of one of the patients. It had been awhile since he did any lap work, he always avoided that on the Humboldt, he preferred bridge duty, but he grew up as the son of two famed scientists, and science was part of who he was, he was working in laps by the age of 10, so he knew what he was doing, at least he hoped he knew what he was doing. But he still was a little confused as to what exactly the doctor wanted him to do, but he overheard her say flu, and while this looked flu like, it did look like any flu he knew of. "Hang tight Lewis," Replied the young 2nd lieutenan Robert Sykes, "I'm sure before long you will be able to blast your way out of there." Robert was trying to keep things light hearted, but he could feel a cold stare coming from the major. (reply Kowalski if you want) "No worries O'Hara, I'll get you out of there." Will spoke up, but he didn't know if he could deliver on the promise. He kept trying to work as fast and as dilligent as he could. He found two different ports that could control the beam field. It was a red wire blue wire situation, and he had to act fast, he was beggining to sweat even more. ~Ini Mini Miney Mo~ Will then went and disabled one of the two ports, that then caused a wall of electric energy to form behind Lt. Sykes, who was bringing up the rear. "Hot Damn!" exclaimed the young marine. "You are supposed to stop the booby traps not kill us." Robert was a little concerned with the electric wall behind them, but he would manage. He was a marine after all. "Sorry," Will said, as he then disabled the second port, which then disbaled the booby trap surrounding O'Hara and the rest of the energy fields that were seeking them went offline. (reply any iyw) Will then began to try and work on the second port that caused the electric wall behind them. But nothing seemed to work. He tried one more time, and instead of disabling, it instead created three more electric walls directly behind the one already up. "Umm Commander, aren't you supposed to disable that field, not make more." the 2nd Lt. was beginning to get nervous, but he was trying to be the model marine, and so that combination made him come off, a little goofy. It seemed that the field wrapped around him was in the process of contracting inwardly, thus squeezing his body ever more tightly as it began cutting off bloodflow to various parts of him. "Damn!", he cried, "they didn't do it like this when I had to get my ID photo scan back in HQ.... this, fereeeekin hurts", he added in an attempt to inject humour into the situation and save himself a little sanity. All he could do though was remain still and try not to get too stressed out by it all. Banowsky was working hard within an opened up aperture in the bulkhead, whilst Sykes shouted reassuring words to his comrade as they attempted to free him. It wasn't easy though, for every attempt that was made, another neon wall erected beyond from whence they had came. "That ain't supposed to happen either guys", said O'Hara, and then all of a sudden, the Lieutenant Commander succeeded in his task, O'Hara fell to the floor in an aching, crumpled heap, then he slowly drew himself up onto his knees. "Not a moment too soon", he muttered with labouring breath, "I honestly thought I was gonna pop there for a moment or two", he added as he habitually checked the condition of his III-C rifle, whilst Sykes commented on the fact that there were now forcefields in place along their entry route. "I did my best Lieutenant, but it seems like from this point forward, there is no going back", said Banowsky as he stood and then looked to the Major. "It's just as well that we intend to go that way then isn't it", said Kowalski pointing down the length of the corridor, he then ordered his men to be doubly alert from this point on, whilst suggesting to the other Lt Cmdr that perhaps he should make more use his balls.... and then laughing to himself as he realized exactly what he'd just said. So the person to answer him wasn't the pretty betazoid doctor, but a grizzly, stocky built human nurse. "We don't know lad and that's the trouble. It don't look nothing like anything we've seen before. We've prepared for this sort of thing in the past, but it wasn't supposed to happen. See if you can run the list of patients against transporter logs. We're trying to see if this was something picked up on an away mission, as well as find a common reason for all these people to be sick." He waved his hand towards the people out there. "We're working with a virus in medical research that looks something like this.." And he tapped the beginning of the gene sequence, "But the rest of it is way off as this virus," And he pulled up the one they were working with. "Doesn't attack humans, just plants." He sighed. "Even if it was that one they were working on, and I'm not saying it is, that virus is inert and missing part of the code. It shouldn't be able to spread." He shrugged a little, "We also need to run it against all known pathogens and that can take some time. More it's finding why than how right now. "It's just as well that we intend to go that way then isn't it", said Kowalski. “Besides we are planning to beam out of here once we get our hands on the Central Plexus.” Calvin assured the team in his on way as he reached in for the solid metal ball. He rolled the ball and no booby traps popped up. The Marine team geared up and ran through the non-functional force field with Calvin and Will behind them. According to the schematics the team had now traveled nearly the full 150 meters that was estimated to the Central Plexus room. Lt Cmdr Capps looked up and forward, and as the team moved around a corner he could confirm that indeed they had made it. In front of the team now was something that Capps was not expecting, but it did not surprise him either. With all the traps and defenses against this particular room anything could be expected. It seemed their next obstacle was not only a force field, but a large metal door similar to the size of a cargobay door. At the door the team allowed both Lt Cmdrs through so that they could get a better look at it. Calvin gave his first analysis. “It seems the door is locked shut behind the force field. And look, there are two panels now. We each will have to take one,” Capps said pointing out the two panels. (reply Banowsky) Calvin opened the panel and he watched Will do the same. “Ok, I am seeing much of the same circuitry we saw with the others. It looked very similar to a Borg insertion tube that injects its victim with nanites. Calvin stopped working and ran over toward Will and pushed him out of the away. The tube found Capps’ back and injected him. Calvin screamed with horror, “Major get rid of that thing!” The tube began looking for other victims. He took a few deep breaths, and with the door powered, he was able to, after some banging of the port with his primary tool, to get the door opened. It slid open to reveal what the away team had been searching for. With the marines finished taking care of the enemy, and Lt. Sykes attending to Capps on the floor, will stood up and with a shake of his head, addressed the team. "Behold, the Central Plexus Chamber!" He was beaming with a slight smirk, as here he was meeting new crewmembers, young ensign junior grades boarding there first assignment. Of course Michael hadn't been out of the academy too long himself. In fact he had just been promoted to ensign senior grade and transferred to the security department. So perhaps he was just beaming because he outranked them, and he was happy about it. He was expecting two transfers, both human, an engineer and a counselor. He was hoping they would beam over at the same time. However this was not the case as first the engineer, or at least he assumed was the engineer due to the uniform, suddenly arrived. "Sir, Ensign junior grade Aldlar Durgil reporting." ~Sir, I like the sound of that.~ "Welcome aboard ensign." Michael replied, "Now if you could just wait here a moment." The two then waited in silence a minute or two until the transporter buzzed back to life. And here was the counselor, of course he looked much older than Michael expected. But he was here and that meant he didn't have to wait. "Counsellor Ensign JG George K. Samhan reporting." "Welcome Ensign as well. To the both of you I say welcome aboard this great ship, I am Ensign Senior Grade Michael Alexander. I was asked to come and greet you and welcome you aboard. Now then if you will take these PADDs and enter your starfleet ID codes into the PADDs, your transfer will be complete." Michael then handed each of them a PADD and waited for them to input the data and hand them back to them. "Well then as of 17.37, on Stardate 2406.06.08 I welcome the two of you to the Spectre. Reaching up towards her left temple, she touched the metallic protrusion, the red blinking light upon it's surface reflecting upon the skin of her hand as she did so. Judith quirked her head to one side, the light intrigued her and yet, she did not know why. Moving towards the mirror she attempted to examine the light closer, but then on catching site of her completely bald head, the scars still in evidence where the tubes had once been, something began to fire within the Human part of her memory synaps' She was seated at a dressing table, a brush in her hand. The Spectre crewman she knew as Security chief Donaldson was standing behind her.... complementing her on her hair. The reflection in the mirror showed long auburn tresses, luxurious in it's texture and flowing down over her shoulders, a strange sensation filled her entirely, a sense of belonging.... then the memory dissolved and she was facing the stark, hairless visage she had espied beforehand. Judith shook her head, a frown appearing upon her face. She turned around, a part of her wondering now if Security chief Donaldson was there perhaps. As it was though he was not, the man in question had escorted her to her quarters not fifteen minutes beforehand and then had left, a hint of sadness upon his face as he did so. Who exactly was he? Judith knew that he had once played a part in her past, the time before she had been assimilated by the collective, now though he was just a fragment that continued to appear.... and it unnerved her somewhat. The Orion Councillor, Kreung had addressed him as 'Husband', the term had seemed to hold some meaning and yet, Judith did not understand what it was. She shook her head and then moved away from the mirror and towards the viewport which looked out upon the ship that had brought her here. It seemed strange to be looking at it now, she admired it's purity, it's geometric conformity, it felt.... right. Kreung had challenged her on Borg ethics and had stated the weakness of the collective, and yet Judith could see none whatsoever. Something was happening... Something stirred within her psyche. Devoid as she now was of her implants, she still sensed the movement of the collective, there was a disruption somewhere, a connection had been broken where once it had been in the process of re-establishing. Judith quirked her head once again and examined the Borg vessel, instinctively attempting to shift focus through varying degrees of both the visible, and invisible spectrum. It achieved nothing of course, for the occular implant that she had once relied upon was no longer there, removed as it had been by the Starfleet Doctors. Judith 'missed' the collective, she missed the sense of oneness, it's purity and clarity.... but she sensed that it was soon to be returning! (Reply None, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Two – MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski and Cprl, Lewis O'Hara - 17:30) So they were at the final set of forcefields uh? Kowalski had a feeling that that wasn't going to be the case, and that perhaps somebody hadn't studied their schematics thoroughly enough. For now though he remained quiet and allowed the fleeters to do what they were best at, namely taking down forcefields. The marines remained vigilant throughout of course, two had been posted rearwards to defend their flanks against anything that might approach from that angle, to be honest though, there was a fat chance of that...... unless of course whoever it was could walk through the forcefields that had dropped en route! Kowalski was taking no chances though, something didn't seem right here, it wasn't that it had been 'too' easy, far from it in fact, it was more that this ship was beginning to look a little less conventional than those he had encountered already and this proved to be the case whilst the two Lt Cmdrs were working on the 'last' forcefield. The beam had hit O'Hara.... AGAIN, and he had predictably gone ape in regards that as a second forcefield snaked around him to begin it's compressive carress once more. "Damn!, why me", he cried, as the fleeter tried his best, seemingly with much more difficulty this time, to free him. It took much longer this time but In the end of course the field was deactivated and O'Hara, after being warned to prepare for an impact, fell to the ground... AGAIN. The Corporal stood and brushed himself down for the second time in less than half an hour, this was beginning to become damned irritating to him, but then all of a sudden, the MXO's pre-conceived unconventionality reared it's ugly head once more in the form of a searching nano-tube, which had snaked out of an aperture to begin seeking out humanoid flesh to impregnate! "You have got to be kidding me!", shouted O'Hara, just as Capps lunged at Banowsky, knocking him sideways but taking the probe in the back in the process. “Major get rid of that thing!”, cried Capps as he fell to the floor in agony, the nano-tube having done it's deed now and actively seeking other victims to stab! Kowalski moved forwards, his body attempting to match the gyrations of the black tube as it seemingly tried to avoid him. ~A tube with sentience... damn thing, stay still~ thought the MXO as he reached out and grabbed the body of the thing with both hands and then dropped to the ground with it, thus pinning it down. "Sykes!", cried Kowalski, and Sykes was there in an instance. (Reply Sykes) Sykes had done what he felt best and had drawn out his blade and sliced the thing at it's source. The black snakelike nano-tube then collapsed along it's length, it's controlling aspect now firing data and electrical impulses into nothingness. Kowalski threw the thing against the bulkhead and then stood, Sykes moved to tend the fallen Capps and Banowsky completed the task assigned him, heralding his success with a line straight out of an action movie, as the door drew aside. "Behold, the Central Plexus Chamber!", he exclaimed proudly. Kowalski looked to the floor and then allowed his head to lift sideways and upwards towards the Lieutenant Commander. "Yeah", he said, like an old dust ridden cowboy from old times, "now it get's really hard" (Reply Banowsky, Capps, Any) Kowalski looked to Capps where he lay, Sykes still tending his wound the best he was able to under the circumstances. "He needs to get back to the ship", said Kowalski pointing to the injured crewman, "if he stands any chance of not needing prosthetics that is", he added. (Reply Any) But what of the central plexus itself? It seemed that everyone assumed that they could just remove this thing and beam it out, Lt Cmdr Capps himself had mentioned earlier that this was in fact the case, hence Kowalski's earlier thoughts that perhaps someone hadn't fully read their schematics, he had remained silent then but... now though it was time to speak up. "You cannot just beam out of here, are you forgetting why we couldn't beam in here?", asked Kowalski. (Reply Any) "This place is the most heavily shielded area on the ship for precisely that reason, to prevent anyone beaming in and sabotaging THAT bloody thing", he said pointing to the opened up aperture of the Central Plexus with a certain venom in his voice. "I'd like to know if I could get some detailed schematics of the ship. I might as well start studying my new charge." "That would require sending some of us back in transporter range. I don't know how feasible that is. But I agree, we need to get Capps back. Commander, how long do you think you can stay...you?" Calvin laid on his side as the Marine medic took a look at the small holes that were now in his back. The pain was at a level that he had never experienced before. It felt as if two needles had just been poked inside of his bones and then injected with a solid object. Capps didn’t know for sure what the Marine did, if anything, but the pain minimized so that he could concentrate a little. “I….I don’t know.” The Lt Cmdr still wasn’t thinking straight, and he was still in shock of the fact that he had just been injected with nano probes. His background with Borg technology wasn’t new but he was no leading expert neither. “Cmdr…” he gritted his teeth, “I will go on as long as I can.” The truth was Capps wanted to stand up and beam right back to the Spectre. He wanted the nano probes taken out of him immediately and be sleeping in his bunk with out harm. That wasn’t the reality of it though, and the little thought process that he still had left he thought about how he was in front of other officers of Starfleet and how he handled this could make a major difference to getting a piece of equipment that would substantially give Starfleet an advantage. Almost as if it was his last will, “Once were done just get me back to the ship ASAP, I don’t want to be one of them!” Calvin mustered. "Well, we should try and see about getting the Central Plexus out of here,” stated Banowsky. "You cannot just beam out of here, are you forgetting why we couldn't beam in here?", asked Kowalski. We knocked those out so we should be….~ Calvin’s mind froze in mid thought and something else started thinking for him. ~a beam out would not be possible at any time. The central plexus is guarded by the most solid and strongest alloy available. It is hidden deep inside of our ship so no one would be able to penetrate the area. It would be futile.~ The feeling and weird sensation mysteriously went away just as fast as it appeared. "We should probably move backwards, once we remove the central plexus. We might not have the time to get through a whole new set of booby traps. On the way bacl we will have to deal with the electric wall, but I will probably be able to disable it on the way back. He attempted to blink and rub his eyes to make them feel better. “I am ready Commander.” On his feet with the help of Will Calvin walked through the door into the Central Plexus room. It was not difficult to find the Central Plexus since it was positioned in the middle of the room. Lt Cmdr Capps stood directly in front of the Central Plexus. It had a shape of an octagon with a bright green interface in the middle that was lit up. On top of the interface were four small connectivity circuits or panels. If there were any place to start it would be with those four panels. They had the Central Plexus hooked and secured inside of the mount casing. Calvin opened the kit that he had and took out a tool that was similar to a laser scalpel. He reached his hand toward the Central Plexus circuits and began cutting the protected wires to free the panels from the mount casing. In mere seconds he finished one, then two, and even three. He then began to remove the plexus from the chamber, however there were some wires behind it. It was a delicate operation, and he could hear moaning from the commander. "Sykes, Major, O'Hara, keep your phasers trained, on stun. Lieutenant, the minute I disconnect this thing, I want you to attend to the Commander and help stand him up, but Major, please keep a phaser on him, he goes all borg we need to knock him out fast." The path forward was also flooded with excess heat and electric fields, as well as the forcfields that loved O'Hara oh so much. Dangerous to the away team, but apparently no threat to the borg drones, had there been any. Little by litte, the wires were disconnect with no damage to the plexus. He removed the Central Plexus fully and motioned for O'Hara to come over, he handed O'Hara the Central Plexus, and then bent over to gather the tools. She hadn't eaten in far too long. And her eyes being blurry and the headache and muscle aches were from being hunched over a microscope and gene splicer for too long. She slid from the stool, but her legs weren't steady and she fell, suddenly very weak. She brought down the tray she was working on, covering herself in vials of the virus. At first, all eyes had turned towards the viewscreen, everyone expecting the Borg ship, or some other Borg vessel to be bearing down upon them with all guns blazing. As it was though, the klaxons and alerts were nothing at all to do with the threat outside, this threat was an internal one. "Report", said the Captain. It was all just in case he turned of course, ordinarilly though, the Major would not have needed an excuse to point a phasor at a fleeter, it wasn't that he was particularly psychopathic or anything, he just didn't really trust any of them! There was a reason for that but it was one that the MXO had always chosen to keep to himself.... and the miscreant fleeter that had upset him! Capps however, wasn't that particular fleeter and Kowalski knew that if he 'turned', he would have been toast before he even managed to come anywhere near any member of his team, that much went without saying. "It's covered Lieutenant Commander", said Kowalski, "but if I gotta vapourize him, are you sure your up to removing the thing", he added, meaning the Central Plexus of course. (Reply Banowsky) Banowsky continued to work in the chamber, it looked too easy but the MXO was sure that this was purely because the Lt Cmdr knew his stuff, and not that it actually was. When the alarms sounded though, he began to wonder again. It seemed that the removal of the wires attaching something or other to a panel, had triggered something and the Marines had instinctively looked about, scanning for targets in all directions whilst expecting more drones. As it was though, none came, for there were none to come. Banowsky drew the device from it's housing and then handed it to O'Hara who took it gingerly, clearly expecting it to explode in his face, or wrap him in another forcefield. Banowsky had gone on to mention something about the room becoming flooded with energy, Kowalski was unsure of what he meant but concurred entirely with his last words. "I say we get the hell out of here", he had said, the urgency in his voice now more than just a little obvious. "Roger that", said Kowalski as he turned about and took point himself, whilst O'Hara covered their flank beyond Sykes, Banowsky and the injured Capps. "Same plan, we approach the fields and as we are one man down now, Lieutenant Commander, you will have to disable the forcefields", said the MXO, directing his recommendation to Banowsky. (Reply Banowsky, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Medical Research – FO, Williams – 17:42) Andrew reached to door of Medical Research and quickly entered his access code to unlock the door. Still being Chief medical officer as well as being the First officer gave him command clearance to get into areas of quarantine. As the doors slid open he stepped into the room. He saw Riya lying on the floor from where he stood he was not sure weather she was dead or just unconscious. He fought the urge to run over to her and moved forward carefully. The computer had placed a force field just inside the door but it gave him enough room to step through and access the panel on the wall beside the door. He laid the hatch carefully on the floor and began to pull out vacuum-packed container. He quickly pulled on the emergency bio-hazard suit. ~Twice in one day. Feels like old times~ He heard the hiss as he sealed the helmet and waited a few seconds for the wrist monitor to show that he had no leaks and the oxygen was flowing correctly. Then he turned back to the pulled out a medical kit that was also stored behind the access panel and then moved through the force field and towards Riya. He moved carefully over to Riya and knelt beside her. he quickly opened he medkit and pulled out a tricorder. As he scanned her he opened the comm channel. “Dr Kirien this is Dr Williams. I am in Medical Research. Dr Riya is down. It appears she has been contaminated by something. As you have been working with her do you know what it might be?” (Reply Kirien) (Reply Kirien, any) (Posed by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Medical Research – FO, Williams – 17:42) =^=We were working on an inert plant virus similar to the one that had infected the grain on Cyrus 2. The project was to train laboratory skills should such an outbreak occur again=^= Andrew nodded to him self inside his environmental suit. He looked at the collapsed figure of Dr Riya beside him. Although she was border line stable at the moment she had the possibility of going off very quickly. “Commander, do you require assistance. I can be suited up in 2?” Andrew looked up and saw CPO Rock standing at the entrance of medical research. He quickly thought about what he wanted to do. The more people that were let in here, the more risk there was of the infection spreading but he could not do this alone. “Okay Chief. I need a hand with the Dr. Kirien. Get suited up and help me stabilise Dr. Kirien.” (reply CPO Rock) As Rock suited up he looked around for some where they could move Dr Kirien. From his scans of the tricorder he was not worried about spinal damage from the fall. He saw an empty corner of the room. ~Need some space~ “Okay Chief. We need to get Dr Kirien over there so I can get a better look at her.” (reply Rock) With Rock’s help they moved Dr Kirien into the clear area. “Chief I need the scanner from that table. "Commander, I was asked by the personnel in sickbay to lend you assistance. What can I help with?" Andrew nodded quickly thinking about where he would be the most use full. “Okay Lieutenant. As he ran he created a plan of what he would do once he got to the medical research facility. He was going to secure the door, make sure no one was inside of the room, and then wait for a doctor of some sort to show up. CPO Rock turned the last corner without skipping a beat and his plan was thrown out of the window. Jaret saw the door to the medical research room open. It was too late to secure the area. He didn’t even think about how the surrounding area could be infected but instead he continued to run because he saw a down officer and another crew member inside of the room in a suit. Jaret ran through the door and hooked his hand on the door to stop his movement at once. He now saw the force field surrounding the two officers. The room had in deed been secure. He also was able to make out the officer in the suit through the helmet. “Commander, do you require assistance. He couldn’t remember the last time he had one of these on, but with 20 years of service he knew he had worn these more times than he wanted too. With all holes closed in the suit he walked through the field. “Okay Chief. We need to get Dr Riya over there so I can get a better look at her.” Jaret looked over at the space the Commander pointed to and noticed there were some boxes in the way. He moved briskly in the small area and removed the boxes away from the area and placed them on one of the tables available to them. He then returned to the Dr. Riya. “One, two, three,” they lifted together and moved the Doctor to the area that Andrew had pointed out. “Chief I need the scanner from that table. I need you to set it up and run a detailed scan of Dr Riya. We need to know where the virus is spread.” CPO Rock didn’t respond audibly but instead moved toward the scanner on the table. He picked it up and moved toward the body lying on the ground. He wasn’t the best field medic or nurse, but had some experience with injured crewmembers over the years. He set up the scanner the best he knew how and began scanning right away. "Commander, I was asked by the personnel in sickbay to lend you assistance. What can I help with?" Santiago said standing inside of the room now. “Okay Lieutenant. Get suited up. I need you to look at Dr Riya’s research. Send a copy to sickbay and science department we need to get a better understanding of what we are dealing with. He handed the scanner report to the Dr, “it looks like it has spread to her entire body?” (reply William, Santiago ) (posted by Calvin) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Two – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps and CONN/OPS Lt. Cmdr Will Banowsky - 17:45) Calvin, or was it 1 of 1, woke up from his unconsciousness. His eye sight was blurry and he felt like a piece of equipment was missing from his left eye. The faces and voices around him made him confused and jittery. Something helped his body off the ground, and they with him began to walk out of the room. As they walked out of the room, the mood of the Away team was that of trepidation. This wasn't some twenty first century heist holofilm. This was the real deal. They were attempting to do something that hadn't been done before, and they were so close. They had the Central Plexus, and all they needed to do was get back to the Spectre. Lt. Commander Banowsky was helping what he thought was Lt. Commander Capps along the corridor. O'Hara walked ahead of them with the plexus, while Sykes and Kowalski walked behind, phasers trained on Capps. For what had them even more worried, Capps had been infected with nano-probes, and all feared when the assimilation would happen. With every step that 1 of 1 took he felt less confused and more calm and understanding of the situation. There was something he was supposed to be doing. The voices inside of his head weren’t making much since, but they were starting to talk in harmony. The group of individuals stopped and so did 1 of 1. The member that was holding him began to move away. They had arrived at a force field that had sprung up after there taking of the Central Plexus, Banowsky gently moved away from Capps, to work on the force field. Suddenly 1 of 1 knew what he was supposed to do. He needed to stop these humans from leaving this ship with the Central Plexus. Before the human that was holding him released him entirely 1 of 1 threw his palm with full momentum into the humans collar bone knowing this would break it. With force Will fell backwards he could feel something snap, his left collarbone had been broken. All he felt was pain. As he fell back he reached out to grab his attacker by the shirt, and with force tried to bring him down with him. The two of them spun around attempting to gain the upper hand in the hand to hand combat. While 1 of 1 could feel a hand now around his throat he couldn’t help but feel that he was missing more equipment now. He should have a more powerful arm and hand, but he didn’t. He should have been able to capture this minuscule of a human much more easily. Will was struggling as best he could. He had one arm, and was going up a half Vulcan infused with borg nano probes. It would be an easy fight.. The borgified Calvin had him pinned, but Will was able to get his hand on the throat of his attacker. He was wondering why the Marines weren't firing the phasers. But it was the least of his worries, the pain was incredible.. As he tried to put a thumb into the Adam's apple of Calvin, the borg readied himself, and chopped the wrist with both hands, with enough force to break parts of Will's right wrist. Instantly Will realized his grip he was in more pain than he ever realized possible. He was beginning to cry, and he wanted the Marines to fire. The borg then began to ready his right arm as two tendrils exited from above his wrist, he would add another to the collective. Will was frightened "I'm not gonna be one of you!" He tried his best to wiggle free, but his shoulder his wrist, the pain. He tried again to choke the borg, he extended just his index finger, as much as it hurt, he began to poke the borg at the left side of the adams apple and applied pressure. The borg backed of some, and then yanked Will by the left arm. Will released his grip. The borg then slammed a fist down as hard as he could into Will's left forearm, breaking it, then proceeded to assimilate him again. But it would fail, a shot was fired, a clean shot had been found and taken. The borg fell stunned on top of Will, who was biting his tongue to hold back screams. 1 of 1 felt the shot but only for an instant. His body now laid on top of the Lt Cmdr as drool from 1 of 1’s mouth drained of top of Will. He looked up to see the Major, phaser drawn, and let out a weak, "Thanks." While he awaited someone to get Calvin or whoever he was off of him. (reply Kowalski) (posted by Calvin and Will) (USS Spectre – Medical Research – Lt. He was hoping this wasn't going to cause an outbreak. He also hoped that his scientific skills were good enough to help. He knew biology, he knew microbiology, but he was much more comfortable scanning for anomalies, firing a phaser and even operating a tactical station. He timidly entered as Rock approached Dr. Williams. Rock handed the scanner report to the Dr, “it looks like it has spread to her entire body?” Matthew was a little worried hearing the virus had spread to the whole body of his fellow, albeit one he didnt know, science officer. "Doctor Williams, perhaps we need to work to develop the vaccine right here and now, I know this sounds very cold saying, and I don't mean it to be, but we have a prime test subject to test and develop a vaccine." Matthew hoped he didn't sound cold with his statement, but in his mind, here was a great study opportunity. There was a team working on Amari Riya, doing their best to keep her alive. There was a team deconstructing the virus. The one thing that they had figured out was that what had hit Amari and what had hit the ship were very very close. So close in fact that Michaella was willing to say that somehow the decontamination procedures had failed. And that would need to be addressed. She was hungry, thirsty and hot. There seemed to be too many people crowding sickbay, and she could feel them pressing urgently against her mind. The room swam for a minute before her eyes as her body finally caught up with the fact that she had nothing to do. There hadn't been any new cases in the last few minutes. "Ah hah!" A voice nearly shouted across sickbay. Michaella winced as she turned to see what all the shouting was about. "Every single case of the last hour walked this cooridor. There wasn't any person to person spread until...." He tapped the screen, "About twenty minutes ago. The virus is mutating. That's why we're seeing so many different minor strains of it." Well that certainly made sense. Michaella tapped her comm badge, "Dr. Kirien to Operations. We've managed to isolate that most of the cases went through a specific hallway. We're sending where we think it originated to you. Seal that section and get a decontamination team there." Without waiting for a reply, Michaella moved over to a patient who was coughing rather hard. Touching the hypo to the woman's arm, Michaella calmed her with an excellent bedside manner. "Dr. Kirien sit down and eat something so you don't get sick yourself." A nurse clucked at her. Michaella glared and did as she was told for once. The soup was filling, the juice tart. As she was finishing another shout came from outside the CMOs Office. "WE GOT IT!" Michaella grinned as she nearly ran outside to see what progress had been made. Completely ignoring the conversation that the FO was having with whoever was on the other end of that comm channel. He wanted to start focusing on a vaccine, if anything, to shove it in the face of that lady in sickbay. Of course he was also hoping that the FO would help. He was pretty sure the acting CMO would know a little bit more about developing a vaccine. He took a blood sample from the infected science officer and then hurried over to one of the computers and readied himself to take a reading from the blood sample. He looked at the infection spreading and began to take side by side analysis from the original virus that was being studied, and Dr. Kirien was right, they were very similar, somehow the orginal must have mutated, byt Matthew was unsure as to the how. He didn't know what to do with a borg, he was a field medic afer all, but he did know what to do with Will's wounds. Working quickly, he took out a hypospray from his field kit and injected Will with it, it wouldn't mend his bones, but it would dull the pain. Then carefully, he helped Will take over the black over shirt of his uniform, and fastened it into a sling, in which he carefully placed the left arm. Then he pinned the Commbadge onto the red shirt. Then with some bandage in the kit, and used it to secure and tighten Will's broken wrist. "That should suffice until we get back to the Spectre." Robert said, as Will then looked at the rest of the Away team. He then walked to the pannel and motioned Robert over to him. Then with careful instruction, he guided Robert in taking down the forcefield. Robert didn't really know what he was doing, but Will was a good teacher. He was nervous, as he didn't want anymore borg craziness. Slowly, more slowly than he would have liked the forcefield was disabled. "Next time Commander don't break your bones." Robert said as the Commander nodded in approval, then after collecting the equipment, he wandered over to the Major. "Sir, I'll help you carry Commander Capps out of here, just give the order." Kowalski had been in a bit of a quandy concerning the shot that had ended it all, apparently, the security trained Capps had known to keep his target between himself and the phasors of the Marines, and only at the very last moment had the MXO been able to see his opening. As a result of that though, Capps had now been incapacitated and Sykes was busy doing his best for both combatants. "Sir, I'll help you carry Commander Capps out of here, just give the order.", said Sykes looking up to his CO, Banowsky just acknowledged the MXO with a nod accordingly. He was burning up and had been sent back to quarters when he'd almost thrown up on the duty sarge. Sergeants had such poor opinions of vomit on their boots. The rest of his bunkmates were out getting ready to storm the castle but all he could do was lie here and moan. He did consider staggering up to sickbay, but it just seemed like too much work. Feeling eyes on him, he put hand to the punch dagger behind his belt and opened his own eyes. He was very startled to see the holo version of himself squatting nearby staring at him with unblinking eyes. "What the hecks man?" he mumbled. "You're not dying fast enough." The holo-marine told him, his voice mechanical. "Yeah? Well, I'll tries to die faster just fer you." Jose grumbled and started to roll over to put his back to the wacky computer creation. Second thought though had him swing his feet off the bunk and look at the hologram. "An' whats are you doing here?" "Waiting for you to die." The hologram told him like it was the most obvious thing ever. "Peoples don't die from the flu, mans." Rameriz considered throwing up on him, that'd might gross the wussy program out enough to make it go away. Too bad he'd emptied his stomach already sixteen or sixteen million times. "They do this one." The hologram told him. "I radiated one of the research virii. A nice mutation and gene splicing produced a nice murderous disease that standard anti-viral won't work on." "You're nuts man! Why'd you do this?" Jose grabbed the brace for the bunk and tried to stand up while the room swam. "You have been giving me a bad reputation. I have fixed your appalling use of the standard language, I have educated myself further than the limited knowledge I was originally programmed with and I have followed rules, protocols and regulations, but still I am painted with your ill-standing." The hologram seemed happy to watch him stumble towards the door. The door didn't open, the computer seeming to think it should be locked. "So, I have decided to fix this error." The hologram continued as Jose tried to convince the door that it really did want to open, that it would make it really happy to open. Unfortunately, the door didn't seem to be convinced. Jose stumbled back across to his foot locker, swallowing bile that kept trying to leave in the divorce proceedings between stomach and mouth. He dug out a PADD and had it beam its contents into the ship's core. Two could play at this virus game. Too bad the black spots in his vision were making it darn hard to concentrate. "What are you doing, Jose?" The hologram asked, brow furrowed. "Shutin' you ups, man." Rameriz replied, the terminal blipped, blinked and then beeped. "Emergency shut down of all holographic personnel, Authorization Captain T'Vhor, I mades this code up, Alpha, Alpha, Alpha." "You can't do that -" The hologram started before it shut down it a fitz of protest. Rameriz slumped to the deck. Why was his heart pounding so loudly? It couldn't possibly be worry about what the Captain was going to do to him shortly, he was retiring as soon as he could remember his rank and serial number. Was that some level of suicide? Your holoself trying to kill you and take half the crew with him? God, he was nutty and his holo-self only more so. He missed his pals. He missed when the enemy was simple and the job was just blow drek up. He was pretty sure he was going to miss the stormclouds on a Vulcan's face when he found out a marine had hacked his access. Ah well, it was always the fun things in life that you lost. Too bad he'd never be able to pull off command code abuse a second time. It'd taken him ten years to find that hole. (Reply any) (Posted by Lorna) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Two – MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 17:54) Kowalski was tired, tired of all this crap that Starfleet threw at him. He'd probably wasted more of his life risking life and limb than any other pastime, not that this job could be in any way considered a pastime of course. Far from it.... Looking back at Sykes as he worked with Capps, it all seemed so clear now... he was mad, he had to be! After all, who else would volunteer to do this work if not mad, Capps had turned on them and practically beat his colleague to death for that damned box O'Hara carried. Was it all worth it he wondered, he hoped that it was. Banowsky took sight of the Major's backwards glance, clearly something was on his mind and he made that clear as he approached and asked a question of him. "Major a brief word, if I may?", said Banowsky. Kowalski quirked his head but continued moving slowly forwards, not taking his eyes off of their route for one second. "I'll give you as many as you want Lieutenant Commander", he said. "Major, were not out of this yet, but I'd like to thank you for immobilizing Commander Capps, I don't know how many more broken bones I can handle.", said Banowsky, struggling now to even move without suffering pain. "All in a day's.....", said Kowalski, pausing now to think on that before continuing. Will sighed and paused. "Truth is Major, I have never had to take a life in combat. I'd like to believe that I could fire on an enemy to save my own life. I think I can, I'm just selfish enough to do that.. But to fire on a comrade to kill, or a former comrade I don't know." Will cringed a little bit, as the pain suppressor wasn't working as well as he hoped. "But if push came to shove major, to complete this mission, if I have to press the phaser, I will. I guess I can feel guilty about later." (reply Kowalski) "I'm no marine Major, but I'll fire, you have my word." "Sir," came a reply from Sykes, "We've reached the next forcefield." Will then left the side of the Major as Sykes gently let go of Capps, who was being supported now by just O'Hara, who was awaiting the major to help him with Capps. Will overlooked Sykes as Sykes began to work. He was barking orders left and right to Sykes, slowly but surely Sykes was able to get the forcefield down. Was it because he actually was, or was it that the actual question was just a difficult one, after all, it wasn't often anyone was asked if they could pull the trigger on one of their friends! Needless to say he had answered it with a certain degree of uncertainty, saying yes but not quite being sure that he would vapourize the Lieutenant Commander if he had to. ".... if push came to shove major, to complete this mission, if I have to press the phasor, I will. I guess I can feel guilty about later.", he had stated. Kowalski did'nt quite believe him, but then maybe that was the cynic in him. "I have a feeling that a Marine life would not suit you Lt Commander", said Kowalski as he continued to move onwards unabated. "I'm no marine Major, but I'll fire, you have my word.", said Banowsky just as Sykes made the call regarding the next forcefield. Banowsky got to work 'verbally' whilst Sykes made the adjustments until the forcefield finally fell. "I guess it is then, though I'm not gonna lie, first things first," he began to say as he was about to wince, "I'm going to get my behind in sick bay as fast as I possibly can." The away team continued upon their path. Will was beginning to see locations that he remembered, they were close, close to freedom, close to home, close to a cold shower, and for wounds to mend. They arrived at another force field, Sykes took his spot, and Will began to direct traffic, but, the previous method wasn't. Asking Sykes to move out of the way, Will took a closer look. But he had nothing, couldn't think of anything. Other than the same old same old, He had Sykes keep trying the same process, the same sequence. ~Damnit, we are so close, so close, we need to get this force field down.~ At around the 10th minute of attempting, Will had an idea. "Try the sequence in reverse he," he said as he hoped for the best. Had he been able to do so without pain, he would have crossed his fingers. After Sykes had finished the forcefield came down, and Will smiled. They were almost home. "Looks like the drinks are on the menu." Will said with a smile, hoping that there would be no more snags. The Borg however were now completely immersed in their arrival to wherever it was they were headed, One of Four overseeing all proceedings to make sure that things went precisely as planned. This of course was all part of the hive mentality, logical progression towards ultimate efficiency and as such, one had to hold a certain admiration for the Borg, despite their cold blooded ruthlessness. In no time at all, the view outside of the Sphere through the viewports was changing once again and the stars began to appear, just as before. Then the sphere seemed to slow, the stars slewing and coming to a stop and then moving in a different direction as the thrusters were fired and the drive engaged. The sphere was now back in temporal allignment and on an intercept course with the Federation vessel that had interfered with their mission earlier. It would be reappearing ahead of it's departure time of course, having travelled no less that 6 months forwards in time and then a further 6 months back. Unfortunately for the Spectre though, the Borg had assimilated cloaking technology! (Reply None, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One four, Level Nine - Primary Adjunct, Unimatrix One, One of Four - 18:05) The Spheres arrival had gone completely unnoticed by the Starfleet vessel, it had simply maneuvered into position beneath it's host in readiness for the crews planned assault to reclaim their vessel. Deston had simply been hauled from the forcefielded container to be held in situ whilst the Borg activated their transporter and beamed a total of ten drones into an indiscriminate area of their own vessel. Six had been 'cooking' in their regeneration alcoves whilst the four at primary interface control had completed the task of retrieving ASCO Deston. Now they were en masse again! "You will come with us", said One of Four as he grabbed at Destons arm upon arrival within the humid atmosphere of the Borg ship. (Reply Deston, IYW) Destons stubborness was of no consequence of course, divulged of his phasor now, he could do little but allow himself to be led to wherever they were now headed. Predictably, their tactical advantage would be most likely the bridge of the ship, the primary interface as they termed it but first, they had to deal with the Starfleet officers that were now known to be onboard due to the ships intact and working vinculum. The very moment the drones had beamed aboard, the vinculum had updated them with the situation regarding the now missing central plexus, and five drones were thus despatched to Unimatrix One six, Level Two to intercept them.... (Reply Any) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One four, Level Nine - Lt. (jg) Carlyle Deston - 18:07) Haunted by his fears for his shipmates, and by something closely approaching post-traumatic stress, Deston could do little but peer desperately out the force field sealing him into his... 'cell' seemed too expansive a word; he'd been in a cell before and he'd been able to 'lie down' in that. Even 'cubicle' implied room to work; this virtual closet was just big enough to stand in. The view out of the alcove (better) was limited, mostly giving view to confusing Borg techno-architecture; his captors did little once they'd found their own niches (ah! the very word!); most were out of his sight. There were a few displays of various sorts that were more-or-less within his range of sight, but they didn't seem to be displaying anything that made sense to him, and so failed to hold his attention for more than a few seconds. After a while, though, something tickled his brain. His eyes flicked to one display that was at an oblique angle to his line-of-sight; it was currently showing a slowly-changing field of blue. There was something about it- and then the blue haze grew streaky, abruptly coalesced into a starfield as the Borg ship apparently dropped out of warp. ~Not our kind of warp drive~ Deston thought. ~Where did I see-~ The clunking of heavy Borg footsteps approaching disrupted his train of thought. He physically jerked backwards as one of the Borg loomed suddenly before him. Sphincters clenched further as the forcefield dropped and the Borg reached into Deston's niche - nowhere to run - and drew Deston out. He had only a moment to look around and see several other Borg drones standing around, then the alien dissolve of Borg transporter tech obscured his vision, replacing the utilitarian corridors of the Borg ship with... more utilitarian corridors. The bemused Deston wondered briefly if this were simply intra-ship beaming in lieu of turbolifts, then dropped that line of inquiry as his current custodian released his arm and stumped away. His freedom was short-lived, however, as a different drone immediately replaced the first. "You will come with us," it said as it grabbed at Deston's arm. Deston tried to dodge the Borg's grasp, knowing it was (damn them for appropriating the word!) futile; he still did his level best to pull away. It was like trying to escape an inertron shackle, and he was quickly exhausted. Aggressive resistance yielded no real results, and passive resistance served only to cause himself discomfort while inconveniencing them not at all. He stumbled along, arm held in a vise-like grip, through the confusing monotony of the Borg ship's interior. Normally, there would have been someone there to great new crewman, but the transporter room was strangely empty except for the person manning the console. Quickly stepping down, Anderson nodded to the crewman. The ajoining walkway was another story. It was bustling with activity, crewman going quickly from one place to another. He heard snatches of conversation discussing something about an away team, but nothing specific. Ryan stopped for a moment to tap one of the pannels in the corridor. "Computer, what is the location of Captain T'Vhor?" [The Captain is currently in the captains' ready room] Ryan started to walk away from the terminal, stopped and took a step in the other direction, and stopped again. "Computer, how do ah' get to the bridge from here?" [Follow the lighted direction markers to the nearest turbolift.] As the melodic voice said, lights directing Ryan lit up heading down the corridor. Following those, he quickly reached the turbolift. The journey to the bridge was short, and as he stepped off eyes of several crew members followed him. Ignoring those for a moment, Ryan walked to the door he hoped was the ready room and not some closet or conference room. Keying the chime, a voice bid him to enter. Stepping though, Ryan brought himself into a rough attention. "Ensign Ryan Anderson, reportin' in sir." (Reply T'Vhor) (Posted by Travis) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 20:03) "Come", said the Captain, and the door to his ready room swished aside to reveal an Ensign in Science uniform. His arrival was not unexpected of course, the Captain having already been informed of the mans transfer from the Humboldt to the Spectre, T'Vhor wondered what Talasario must be thinking right now having had at least four of his old crew being moved away like this, as a Vulcan however, feelings did not come into it at all. Command had seen fit to transfer those crew.... so be it. The Ensign that now stood there before him though was perhaps a little older than those normally arriving for duty aboard the Spectre, not that this was to his detriment of course, on the contrary it was actually a plus, for this officers record spoke volumes experience wise and the Captain himself could certainly identify with the loss of his family. "Ensign Ryan Anderson, reportin' in sir", said the Ensign as he came to attention in front of the Captains desk. "At ease Ensign, please.... take a seat", said the Captain, noting the Ensign's curious dialect immediately. (Reply Anderson, IYW) The Captain settled back into his chair and took a deep breath. "I will be honest with you Ensign Anderson, you have arrived amidst somewhat of a crisis... I trust that you have been briefed on our situation here", said the Captain. (Reply Anderson) The Captain nodded and then turned his attention to the Ensigns orders, displayed as they now were upon the PADD he had brought with him. These were standard transfer orders of course, and despite the reasoning behind those orders, the Spectre needed all the Science officers it could get right now. Gunnell would surely be pleased of the help anyway. "I understand that you received your doctorate from the Vulcan Science Academy, this is most unusual for a Human", said the Captain remarking on the mans Starfleet file. She'd been walking around all day with a PADD in hand, she'd multitasked making fun of command officers, comforting junior enlisted and writing and researching what was known of the history of the Borg. She'd finally shipped off her paper to Starfleet Psych and fallen into bed in the wee hours. It seemed like she'd only gotten an hour's of sleep when her terminal started chirping. A glance towards the clock as she stumbled towards her terminal said she'd had an entire hour and fifteen minutes of sleep. "Mrrrg." She said hitting the receive button. An entirely too cheerful buxom blonde in a red uniform greeted her, "Good Morning Ensign Kreung!" Jynea, wearing an oversized t-shirt, rumpled hair, and bags under eyes didn't think 'good' would be her descriptive word of choice, though her choice would involve four letters. She glanced at the rank pips on the woman's collar, "What can I -" she stifled a yawn behind the back of her hand, "- do for you Petty Officer?" "Admiral Davies would like to discuss your experience and views on the Borg." The woman said and stopped with no further explanation. Jynea stared at the woman for several long breaths, "Yeah, and?" she managed. "Oh! Yes, you'll be transferred across to the USS Humboldt and transfer to the USS Serenisk at Starbase 121.." the woman droned on connections while Jynea's eyes glazed over. "Wait." She finally broke in, "I'm leaving the Spectre?" "Uhm, yes." The woman, who still hadn't even provided a name or position, seemed to think Jynea was the dimmest bulb in the pack. "Why?" "What?" "Why? Why can't Admiral whats-his-face just open a terminal?" Jynea rubbed at the back of her head and wondered if she could thump her brain into gear. The woman coughed, "Because.." she trailed off and realized any long explanations would be lost on the sleep deprived counsellor. "Counsellor, you'd have to come to San Fran to defend your dissertation anyway, this is just the most efficient method of gaining several goals in one trip." "Fine. Let me pack my rabbit, tell my Captain and.." The yeoman, or at least, Jynea assumed she was a yeoman, cut her off, "No non-sentient dependants, I'm afraid, Ensign." "You are shi.. KIDDING me?" Jynea blurted out, the woman's eyes widened. Oh for the love of green grass, didn't this yahoo ever get off the planet? "Send me my orders." She said and cut the communication before stumbling back to her bedroom. (Reply None) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Spectre - Senior Officers Mess - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 05:44) The Captain had chosen to partake his meal this morning in the Senior officers mess as opposed to within his quarters. Normally it had consisted of a traditional Vulcan dish accompanied by a freshly squeezed and chilled to three degrees above zero, fruit juice, today though, it consisted of the traditional Earth breakfast of something his fellow officers called... 'Banger's and mash'. A curious misnomer if ever there was. T'Vhor had poked at the meal briefly with his fork upon its arrival, it did not look particularly appetizing at all, two large tubes of flesh encased within a pigs intestine, nestling amongst a flurry of cloudlike mush of potato origin. ~How odd~ he mused. Of course, this was not entirely a traditional Earth meal at all for although the 'Bangers' certainly looked of meat origin, it had been requested by the Vegetarian Captain that a suitable non meat alternative be found, whilst still maintaining the appearance and tradition of said Earth breakfast. It seemed that this had indeed been found, now all the Captain had to do was eat it! It was at that precise moment though that a familiar voice sounded from somewhere behind him. "Morning", she muttered as she swung around the table and then sat down opposite the Captain and pushed a PADD across the table towards him. T'Vhor placed his utensils onto the plate and picked up the PADD to begin reading, just a tad relieved now that he did not have to eat the mush on his plate right away. Jynea just sat and allowed him to digest the information regarding the Borg and such, then once he had done precisely that, she awaited his address accordingly. "When did this arrive?", he asked, "more importantly, why was I not informed beforehand?", he added. (Reply Kreung) The Captain then returned his attention to the plate before him, it was now or never and he promptly stabbed the sausage with his fork to bring it slowly up to his mouth, wherapons he took a bite, expecting unsavouriness, but then finding something that actually tasted quite pleasant. He raised an eyebrow and returned his attention to the Councillor as the food dissolved within his mouth. "BuPers gave you a new counsellor to take the old one away", said the Orion, before going on with an explanation of her transfer to the Humboldt, curiously though, she had said she needed to go 'yesterday'... "Jynea, although I can agree that timetravel is a logical reality regardless of it's inate illogical mechanisms, I fail to see how you can go... "Oh.... can't take Mark with me, so I'm leaving him with Douwsy. Hope that's okay", said Kreung, as though she were actually not looking forwards to imparting that little bit of info. It was probably something to do with the fact that the Rabbit had singlehandedly brought the ship into disorganized chaos on more than one occasion, and also that he liked to chew everything he could get his teeth into! Either that or she she was covering up her sadness over having to leave him on board. The Captain simply nodded and took another bite of his rather succulent and tasty 'Banger' "Tell me Jynea.... why do Humans refer to this as a...... banger?", he enquired. (Reply Kreung) "I find that most illogical", said the Captain as he took another bite of the article in question, only this time mixed with a little of the mashed potato as well. (Reply Kreung) Predictably, the subject had returned to the Rabbit and the Captain began wondering if Rabbit meat ever found it's way into a sausage at all. (Reply Kreung, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Senior Officer's Mess - Ensign Jynea Kreung – 05:45) T'Vhor looked entirely too awake at this hour of the morning. Jynea had the sneaking suspicion her Captain had been up all night and was only to be seen eating a meal because a certain counsellor had threatened to reprogram his replicator if he didn't increase crew morale by showing his face somewhere other than the bridge once in a while. It showed the progression in their relationship over the years that he hadn't explained the complete illogic of her demands and just raised an eyebrow. "Morning," she mumbled sitting opposite her Captain and pushing a PADD towards him. On it were her transfer orders with an explanation of some sort of think-tank about the Borg. Apparently someone decided the Borg were a threat and something should be done about them sooner or later. Gee, she didn't know why anyone could possibly have had that idea, having seen a Borg cube out her bedroom window and an ex-drone in her counseling office. "BuPers gave you a new counsellor to take the old one away," she hid a yawn behind the back of her hand and wished she could go back to bed, "I'm to transfer to the Humboldt yesterday," She couldn't help it, sometimes it was just like fishing. The pained looks T'Vhor got when she employed metaphor, hyperbole and out and out silliness was something she was really, really going to miss. "I find that most illogical", said the Captain as he took another bite of the article in question, only this time mixed with a little of the mashed potato as well. "Maybe it has something to do with the creature it was originally created from?" Jynea suggested, really having no clue. Predictably, the subject had returned to the Rabbit and the Captain began wondering if Rabbit meat ever found it's way into a sausage at all. The Captain examined the sausage on the end of his fork for a second or two, then he returned his attention to the Orion opposite him. "I don't believe that it does", he said, "at least I hope that it does not" The two then considered on the debate as to why a sausage was termed a 'Banger' by the Humans that considered them a favourite, needless to say, without much fruitfulness. The conversation then came back to the Lagomorph. The Captain pondered it's roots, but then thought better as Jynea went on to mention that Douwsey would take him, only to be shocked when the Captain himself offered to adopt the little fellow. "Er, you'd adopt Mark?", she exclaimed. The Captain placed his eating utensils down upon the plate again, his expression as neutral as it ever was. "Indeed.... Does that surprise you?", he inquired. "Wow, I'm not sure what to say to that.", said Kreung, semingly somewhat shocked at the Captain's offer. It was probably not that hard to believe why really, after all, the Rabbit had become the Captain virtual nemesis on this ship. "If Nurse Douwsey cannot accomodate him, then I will", said the Captain, repeating his previous offer. "Uhm, thank you sir. The Captain raised an eyebrow in typical Vulcan fashion, a common response whenever Jynea was around it would seem for one could never be quite sure whether her remarks were serious, or simply a joke. The sentiment though had provoked a certain thought in the Captain.... he would 'miss' that somewhat. "I do not recall the pirate garb", said the Captain, "was I cognitive?"Jynea chose not to answer that right now and immediately went into what else she would miss, with equal results in regards the CO. “And I’ll miss the little crinkle you get between your eyes when you’re trying to decide if I’m being silly or serious”, she had said before wrapping her hands around her mug of tea. "Crinkle?", said the Captain, "I was not aware that I... crinkled", he added whilst wondering if she too had some latent telepathic ability nestling within that green cranium of hers. Jynea sighed at the Captains obvious confusion over what she saw as a case of simple teasing. “But, basically, I’ll miss my family that is this ship. I get the feeling I’m going to get homesick for the Spectre quickly and often in my future”, she added, rheuminating now over her career on the Spectre. In the minds eye he was shapeless and void ... falling, drifting, perpetual motion. "it's been some time, Mishka." said a familiar voice from the nowhere. The cloud-like existence of infinity took shape as his persona ... the Chuck he knew to be the present, borg implant et al. He turned himself toward the voice still floating in the nothing. The visage of his former Russian commander could be clearly seen floating similarly. "Where am I, Lieutenant?" he asked ... sounding more like a scared little boy than a grown man. The sensation of falling without moving was making his head start to spin. "You're dreaming." said Lieutenant Yelena Vasilyovna. "And you're here ... again." Chuck commented looking at his feet. "I'm heading to Earth for some sort of meeting on the Borg and dealing with my dissertation. I'm not sure if I'm due back here after or points onward. Y'know how Starfleet is!" Andrew nodded and smiled "Well I'm sure it will be interesting?" Jynea made a rude noise, "I'd like a life a little less interesting, pretty please." He paused for a second as he realised that there was some one missing. "By the way where is that fluffy Houdini of yours?" "Uhm...." Jynea looked everywhere but at Andrew. "Well.. You see.. Transport won't let me take him and uhm.." She stepped back to the transporter room door so it opened, "so-I-left-him-with-Douwsey!" she told him a hurry, wondering if she could make it to the PADD before the doctor realized the furry felon would be in his sickbay from time to time. He sniffed the air again and sneezed. He didn’t understand where his green two foot had gone and why he was staying with the other green two foot. It wasn’t like he didn’t like the second two foot, but she wasn’t his and she didn’t smell right. She also didn’t pet a bunny right. Oh, and she didn’t know what snacks were good. And she seemed to think he shouldn’t eat whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. She had *yelled* at him for chewing on her couch. Bunnies chewed, didn’t she know that? So, he’d decided that since the loud, hyperactive two foot wasn’t around to stop him, he’d go find a better place to wait for his two foot to return to. It had taken a while to get out of the wrong green two foot’s quarters, but soon enough he was hopping his way down the extra large tunnels the two feet seemed so fond of. If they were smart and went on all fours they wouldn’t have so many problems and wasted space. Why, all sorts of carnivores could get down these tunnels! Soon enough a familiar scent came to him through the moveable walls the two feet seemed so fond of. He didn’t understand why sometimes some walls moved and sometimes they didn’t. It was generally just easier to go in the back entrance which often required a bit of gnawing in the right places. Really, it would make much more sense to have the backdoor to the warren in different places for each warren, but two feet weren’t much on logic. Soon enough he’d wiggled past the glowing tubes in the place between and nosed and chewed his way into the right smelling place. This warren smelled on the nice two foot with the big comfy chair. This would be a good place to wait for his two foot to come feed him. With a few hops, flick of tail and a mighty leap, Mark found himself on the soft surface of the two foot sleeping area. He nosed about and tested consistency with his teeth before flomping down onto his side, ears akimbo, for a good nearly-noon nap. It was very hard work being a bunny. Arriving in said quarters, he divested himself of his tunic and moved towards his closet, the door of which slid aside as he tapped the small metal stud upon it's exterior, he then chose a loose fitting cotton top and moved on into his sleeping quarters. At first, he didn't actually see the small bundle of tribble like fur that now lay sprawled out atop his bunk, choosing instead to glance briefly out of the viewing port at the river, it's luminance increasing now to produce beautiful displays that although appearing restful, hinted at being something much more destructive in the wrong hands. Turning about, T'Vhor sat upon the side of his bunk, then he looked to the being that had by that time, pricked up it's ears and turned it's head towards him. The Captain was surprised to say the least, he looked around the room wondering how it may have got there, then he got down on his hands and knees to examine the area behind his bunk, noting as he did so the Rabbits now obvious means of entry. The Captain stood again, then he reached down to pick up the Rabbit and hold it in his arms with a sigh, momentarily stroking it's head with one hand as he returned to his main living quarters to place the Rabbit upon the sofa, before venturing over to his replicator and requesting... "Lettuce leaf and Carrot... Raw" The replicator performed it's magic and materialized said request upon a small plate. The Captain withdrew it and then took it to the sofa, and the Rabbit that remained upon it. "I hope that you like this", said the Captain, "Jynea insisted that this was a particular favourite of yours" The Rabbit sniffed the offer, looked up at the Vulcan hybrid, and then began chewing the wettened green leaves with gusto. The Captain then stood upright and regarded the creature for a short while, then he tapped at his combadge. "T'Vhor to H'Chir" =/\=H'Chir here sir, what can I do for you?=/\= "It would seem that I have a.... hole in my quarters, could you send an Engineer to affect repairs please", said the Captain. =/\=A hole sir=/\= The reply had been more of a statement than a query, but then it was often the Andorian's way to query with a hint of sarcasm at times. "A hole Lieutenant.... Rabbit sized", said the Captain. =/\=Ah, I see=/\= said the Engineer. =/\=I'll send someone up as soon as I have a spare man available, we're still trying to patch up the cloak sir... it's proving to be a pain=/\= "Very well Lieutenant, whenever you are able. Captain out", said the Captain as he returned his attention to the Rabbit who had by that time, devoured the offering and was now dozing again upon the sofa. (Borg Sphere - Primary Interface Control - Primary Adjunct, Unimatrix One, One of Four - 16:05) All four of the Drones were now occupied around a central console, their hands moving across each of their respective panels with well practiced ease and precision. The spheres Vinculum was still intact of course, which meant that all drones on board were in communication with one another, as a result of this, the only noise that could be heard at this station, was the hum of the drive as the ship idled, and yet traveled ahead in a temporal vortex. Ever since it had separated from the primary vessel upon it's attack by the Starfleet ship, it had been on a course with the future, specifically, One Starfleet shuttle in particular carrying a single occupant that held information that the Borg required. That officer was listed in time as being one, Carl Deston, ACSO of the USS Boudicca and bearer of specific subspace information that would destroy their mission.... unless they could 'persuade' him to do precisely what they required instead! At this moment in time, if indeed a moment could be defined right now given it's temporal situation, the sphere was approaching it's temporal exit point.... specifically, Stardate 2408.12.05. almost six months from the point they had entered temporal displacement. The drone identifying as Primary Adjunct, Unimatrix One, One of Four had only turned his attention to an overhead console, reading it's output which displayed as a fast fourier transform graph, showing a dip beginning to funnel downwards, as a single point - the graphical representation of their own ship approached it. Alongside this, a counter advanced, seemingly showing a timezone nearing an allignment marker until it was almost upon it. At that point a second drone initiated another temporal pulse which had the effect of latching the sphere onto the rim of the swirling funnel on the display. All drones then held onto a rail that ran around the periphery of the central console until the manaeuver had finally completed. The external viewers, previously showing a light blue swirling mass, slowly began displaying spinning stars, which slowed until none at all were moving. The Sphere had come to a full stop, all drones then let go of the rail, two heading over to another console, whilst two remained. Another console then came on to show an object approaching at warp and on an intercept course. One of Four, watched in silence as the object closed, then he began inputting commands into the console to his immediate right.... two of the drones then phazed out of view as their own transport beam disassembled their bodies and sent them across the void. Deston had already responded to the proximity alerts that had sounded upon the Spheres arrival of course, he had attempted to get a transmission off and had locked out the computer to voice identification. As it was though, and regardless of the fact that he had also raised shields, the intruders were now very much on board and wasting no time in addressing him. "Your designation is Deston, Carl... Assistant Chief Science Officer, USS Boudicca... you will come with us. Resistance is futile", said the drone in familiar Borg monotone as it advanced towards the stunned Starfleet officer and attempted to grab him. "Holy Klono-!" Deston blurted, panicking as the Borg drone reached for him. He scrambled out of the chair, dodging the drone's first grab. Deston had grabbed his phaser and had fired two shots at the drone, it's personal shield however had raised immediately, apparently having rotated it's frequencies before even registering the first hit. This was odd and Deston's surprised expression showed it. He had expected to at least get one of the drones in the first hit... as it was though, it was almost as if they knew the frequency of his phasor before he had even fired! Two of Five took a step forwards and took a firm hold of Deston's shoulder. Surprisingly, it had not attempted to assimilate him at this point but had only attempted to restrict him in one place. Both their molecules were then disassembled as the familiar transport beam took a hold of them and beamed all three away. The shuttle simply sat there at a full stop, empty! (Reply None) (Posted by Alan and John) (Borg Sphere - Primary Interface Control - Tertiary Adjunct, Unimatrix Six, Two of Five - 16:08) Deston appeared visibly shaken at his kidnapping but was surprised that he was still Human nonetheless, and even more so at his current location. It was obvious to him that he was now on a Borg vessel... well, where else would he be? Why he was here however was a puzzle for sure, as was the fact that the drone had known him by name! How could that be? ~Do the Borg have a line into Starfleet itself? How else could they have known I was here... Klono! Did they take the Boudicca?!~ Deston began to panic anew, as fears that the Borg had attacked and assimilated his ship and crewmates overwhelmed his thoughts. All of the drones more or less ignored him now, save for one who 'dronehandled' him backwards towards a small chamber that looked recently and hastily constructed. Deston was thrust into it and a forcefield fizzed into life in front of him to prevent him from leaving it. Obviously, he was going nowhere unless they allowed it, the drone that had placed him here simply returned to it's position beside the other three to begin work at the controls. Then the stars began moving outside the viewport, faster and faster until all that could be seen was a blue haze as it once again entered temporal displacement. (Reply None) (Posted by Alan and John) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One four, Level Nine - Primary Adjunct, Unimatrix One, One of Four - 18:05) The Spheres arrival had gone completely unnoticed by the Starfleet vessel, it had simply maneuvered into position beneath it's host in readiness for the crews planned assault to reclaim their vessel.
