Dr. Myriah Johansen, station CMO and holistic healer had surprised Ri when she came off shift into their shared quarters. The good Doctor had planned the perfect celebration for her lover's thirtieth birthday, good food made from fresh ingrediants; fine wine and a night of amazing sex. It was to the sound of the computer having a message that Ri groaned the next morning too early for the empath who had overindulged. Myriah made a protesting sound as Ri slid out of the bed padding over to listen to the message ordering her to report in. She groaned as she stumbled towards the shower, stepping in the slice of chocolate cake that had somehow ended up on the floor. Cursing quietly she snagged a towel and cleared it off. A chuckle caused her to turn. "It wasn't your foot I was..." Myriah laughed as the dirty towel hit her as the Ensign showered. She sung softly as the sonic shower began to clear her mind like it always did. Then there was the steaming cup of coffee that Myriah had ready. "Your a lifesaver, my sweet" Ri whispered giving her lover a soft kiss on the forehead before sitting down to look over the news. Myriah had of course made breakfast, and as usual Ri just picked at it. "What was the message about?" Myriah was always a morning person, with way too much energy, something that Ri always cursed. "The Commander would like me to report in. Probably about that fungal strain Reynolds let loose in the genetics lab. That ruined that wheat we were adapting and we'll have to start over on that project. A moment's carelessness and we lost eight months of work. Well not lost, but.." Myriah reached across the table and squeezed her friend's hand "It'll be all right. These things happen and Reynold's has to clean it up. What worse punishment is there?" Ri let Myriah sooth her, "I know sweet it's just..such faulty work! And I hate .. Oh well. Thank you for breakfast Myriah and last night. I had a wonderful time." Myriah nodded as Ri dragged a brush through her curls, securing them in a non-regulation silver clasp that had been given to her by a past lover. ((slightly later)) Amari would not have been more surprised if Commander Gillian had announced she was going to Pluto. "Your. Promoting. Me." Her dark eyes bulged as she stared at the commander, "But that mess?" She asked referring to the mess in the lab. The Commander laughed, "You've never been happy on a station. You have a wanderers spirit. It's my recommendation you'd do well on an exploration ship as the Science Officer. Command agrees and you are to report into the Spectre as soon as possible. It's about four days away via shuttle." The Commander grinned, "I can't spare Myriah for that long unfortunantly, and your shuttle is due to leave in four hours. " Ri walked away thinking, a slightly heavy heart. Myriah was good at understanding. And indeed she DID understand. With a squeal she hugged her lover. It was then she noticed that Myriah had already begun to pack. Not that she really had a lot. Most Starfleet Officers didn't, especially those in the fast track career paths. All her life could be consolidated to two boxe, a few duffelss and a cat carton. Myriah's arms slid around Amari, pulling the woman into a hug. "You knew it would come, and I knew it. Be glad it happened now before either of us tired of the fun, Ri. Your a good woman and will find a partner you can share your life with in time. And there are always letters. Don't be sad." It was then that Ri looked around, "Where is Ptasa?" Chuck said smiling widely. Jynea gave Chuck a look that her friends in middle school would have called 'the hairy eyeball.' "Well, I could psychoanalyze yourself, your two ensigns and one Mr Yates and what led him to run off by himself, but I thought I'd offer to do something of use to you instead. Since that's not needed.." it was a bit of a threat, since in her opinion Yates had only run off by himself because his boss had. He'd been very conscientious about protecting her previous to their catching up with Chuck. (NRPG :I'm gonna assume a 'maybe later' .. Can fix if needed) (Reply Donaldson_) "Mmm." Jynea observed, seeming more amused than anything else. "So, what DID you want me around for? I'm pretty sure it's neither my non-existent detective abilities or my good looks." (Reply Donaldson) (Posted by Lorna) (Ushar Prime - SSFE – TAC/ASC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 19:27) Jynea was obviously flustered … Chuck had accomplished his goal. "Well, I could psychoanalyze yourself, your two Ensigns, and one Mr Yates and what led him to run off by himself, but I thought I'd offer to do something of use to you instead. Since that's not needed.." it was a bit of a threat. Chuck sensed she had been a little hurt by being left alone during their pursuit of the suspects. "If you feel at any time like your services are necessary you may psychoanalyze away. However, for the moment this particular security detail will have to take a rain check." Chuck rubbed his implant. The green lady seemed to be good at pushing buttons and shaking a personality loose … it's what Chuck liked about her but it still unnerved him ... at the moment in particular. "Mmm." Jynea observed, seeming more amused than anything else. "So, what DID you want me around for? I'm pretty sure it's neither my non-existent detective abilities or my good looks." "You have an uncanny knack for asking the right questions." Chuck responded. (reply Jynea IYW) "That's good, Ensigns ... beam back aboard the Spectre and analyze the data." Chuck started, "Not you, miss Kreung." As the two Security Ensigns disappeared in transporter beam shimmer Chuck folded his arms and gave Jynea a look of his own. "Compared to the other Senior Officers I find you to be the most like me." Chuck paused, "Surprised? there are four types of people in Starfleet. We both fall in the type that really doesn't belong in the fleet but can't leave." (reply kreung) (posted by Anton) (Ushar Prime - SSFE - Ensign Jynea Kreung - 19:28) "You have an uncanny knack for asking the right questions." Chuck responded. Jynea wasn't convinced by that. She thought she asked stupid questions because she was clueless. Maybe asking the kiddie questions helped people think? She supposed most, herself included, did have a habit of overlooking the blatantly obvious. "That's good, Ensigns ... beam back aboard the Spectre and analyze the data." Chuck started, "Not you, Miss Kreung." "Tease." Jynea muttered mostly under her breath. As the two Security Ensigns disappeared in transporter beam shimmer Chuck folded his arms and gaze Jynea a look of his own. "Compared to the other Senior Officers I find you to be the most like me." Chuck paused, "Surprised? There are four types of people in Starfleet. We both fall in the type that really doesn't belong in the fleet but can't leave." Jynea looked a bit offended at that, "What do you mean I don't belong in Starfleet? I worked very hard to get here!" (Reply Donaldson) "Hmph." She didn't look convinced. She then stood up on her tip toes and smacked Chuck's hand as he once again tried to itch his implant. "Stop that. It's an endless loop self-defence mechanism. When you feel uncomfortable, you play with that which you feel makes you other than human, you then feel bad because you've just pointed out to others you're other than human and go back to playing with it. Don't make me tie mittens on your hands." (Reply Donaldson) "Everyone has scars and troubles, some just show more than others." Jynea said, not unsympathetically. Really, once she'd gotten out of Orion space, her life had been pretty idyllic.. she had nothing to complain about. Well, besided a bratty rabbit that just wouldn't stay where he was supposed to! I earned this thing and I'm gonna keep it." said Chuck. "Everyone has scars and troubles, some just show more than others." Jynea said, not unsympathetically. (reply Yates, Kreung, any IYW) (posted by Anton) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - SO, Ensign Nathanial Yates - 19:45) The arrival of the effervessent Kreung at the bedside of a sick man was both a blessing and a damnation. Nathanial felt awful, his head pounded irrespective of the expert care the Doctor had already prescribed him and yet, it was kinda nice to see that pleasant green face staring down at him again. Thinking back to the time where he had been lying in the cold mud on Ushar Prime in a dark alleyway, the distant sound of her voice had soothed him, reassured him that he was in safe hands. The fact that he had just been pounded by something resembling an inhuman crushing machine was neither here nor there, Jynea had been there and it was her quick thinking, and more importantly, her badge that had whisked him back to the relative safety of the Spectre's Sickbay. Looking up at her through half closed eyes, he attempted a half hearted shrug of his shoulders only to find that it hurt like hell, then she began talking. Such a sweet, sweet voice..... "Lieutenant Donaldson apparently wants to get me drunk, is it sexual harassment if he's not in my direct chain of command?", she asked. "Uhh.... I really wouldn't know", said Yates as he grimmaced in response to yet another twinge of pain in his neck as he spoke. "Ensign Kreung apparently wants Charles to get in more trouble than he's already in on the average.", added Donaldson. It was all too much... Yates screwed up his eyes and attempted to raise his hands to his ears to close them both out. Then upon realising the futility of this, he answered in the only way he knew how to. "If you two are planning on babies in the near future then leave me out of it, I have no plans on being a godfather, uncle, surrogate this or that.... in fact, leave me out of your argument", said Yates. (Reply Donaldson, Kreung, IYW) "Umm, what the hell happened anyway?", said Yates. (Reply Kreung, Donaldson, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - Ensign Jynea Kreung - 19:46) "If you two are planning on babies in the near future then leave me out of it, I have no plans on being a godfather, uncle, surrogate this or that.... in fact, leave me out of your argument", said Yates. Jynea looked genuinely startled by Nathanial's vehemence. She started to be hurt, then realized that the man in front of her was a security officer and had probably refused pain killers so he could get back on duty ASAP. ~Men!~ She rolled her eyes to Chuck. "I guess we're bothering the patient." She looked back to Nathaniel. "Did you want me to realign your neck so the nice doc can just give you some anti-inflammatories and send you back into the line of fire, or do you want us to just go away?" (Reply Yates/Donaldson/etc) "Umm, what the hell happened anyway?", said Yates. Jynea gave him a one eyebrow look of disdain. Any Vulcan would have been proud. "*You* ran off without back-up and got hit by a troop transport. Or an assailant. One of the two. If you'd waited for me you could have at least employed the distraction of a screeching, panicking, counsellor to your tactics." (Reply Yates/Donaldson) (Posted by Lobster Pink Lorna) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - SO, Ensign Nathanial Yates - 19:48) "I guess we're bothering the patient.", said Jynea... ~Bothering me... er, no~ "Did you want me to realign your neck so the nice doc can just give you some anti-inflammatories and send you back into the line of fire, or do you want us to just go away?", said the Green entity that seemed to move about and shimmer now to n fro above Yates's general field of view. "If you would just stay still and stop bloody moving, that would be a plus", said Yates, aware now that he was probably being a regular pain in the butt to all. "Umm, what the hell happened anyway?", he asked. "*You* ran off without back-up and got hit by a troop transport. Or an assailant. One of the two. If you'd waited for me you could have at least employed the distraction of a screeching, panicking, counsellor to your tactics." Yates shook his head in the negative. "This particular troop transport, assailant, whatever you want to call it wasn't like any troop transport or assailant I've ever seen", he said, "it stood about five ten, had two legs, two arms and spoke like a metallic bug..... and it packed a wallop", he added. (Reply Kreung, IYW) "Believe me, your screeching and panicking would have not deterred it from it's course of action one iota" (Reply Kreung, Donaldson, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CMO Williams - 19:51) Andrew was making his rounds of his patients. It was always good to get some face to face time rather then be cooped up in his office all the time. As he walked towards Yates Bio-bed, he saw that he had visitors. ~Would have been nice if they had asked first~ He saw that Yates visitors were Donaldson and Kreung. ~They really should know better then just to barge in. Nice to know they have both remembered sickbay etiquette~ Andrew walked up to Donaldson, Kreung and Yates and nodded to each one in turn. “Good evening Miss Kreung and to you Mr Donaldson. I need a few moments with my patient if you both don’t mind.” (reply Kreung, Donaldson) Andrew waited until they had both gone out of earshot before he turned back to Yates. “So Mr Yates how are you now feeling?” (reply Yates) (reply Kreung, Donaldon, Yates) (posted by Robbie) (Ushar Prime - Capital City Public Shopping Complex - ATAC/ASC Ensign Goldsteen - 19:51) "But what's the point in finishing anything if you yourself are no better off than before you began?", asked Leena, "I mean, even a Security officer such as yourself feels a certain pride at bringing things to a happy conclusion, irrespective of what it might entail. Plus, why on earth should seeing something through to the very end, stop you being a success?", she added as she paused to take another sip of her drink. "Simple," Alex replied coldly, "if finishing something means doing whatever I have to, despite what the higher ups in the Fleet want to say about it, I'll do it. It gives me the satisfaction of knowing that I did my job." "Your too hard on yourself Alex, I think it's time that you put aside that bleak outlook and set yourself some new goals, and if you can't be the 'Honourable Starfleet officer' by any other means, then be an honourable Human being", said Leena. "I am not sure that I am very good at being anything with the word honorable in it," Alex said bluntly before asking Leena to ask him a question. Leena just sighed a heavy sigh and then rested her chin contemplatively onto her hand. "Ok, is there really any point in my trying to convince you that there are alternatives to the single minded, set in stone outlook that you currently have going round and around in that head of yours?", she asked with a somewhat mischievous smile. "I think there is," Alex said with deadly seriousness, "because there are times when I am not on the job and I am staring at the wall of my room I get this strange sense in the back of my skull. It makes me wonder whether the dull ache in my mind and chest is worth it, and perhaps I should do something incredibly dangerous and stupid. I have no idea what it is, but maybe if I do something not dictated by logic or reason something will happen that will allow me to stop believing my entire life is composed of being ostracized because I am willing to do what I have to." Alex gave a bleak despairing smile before finishing. "In those times, perhaps I'll remember what you said, and I'll manage to start thinking logically again like I am supposed to." (reply Leena) (Posted by Dan Black) (Ushar Prime - Capital City Public Shopping Complex - Bartender Leeena - 19:53) Well that was a relief, the man was Human after all! He had intoned that he actually took time off, the fact that he had said he often felt like doing something incredibly dangerous and stupid though, left a little to be desired. But then, didn't people often feel like that anyway? Leena nodded accordingly, the guy was beginning to remind her of that brother of hers, the one with 'the past' that Goldsteen had so enjoyed pointing out to her when he had returned to her bar. Incredibly dangerous and stupid were probably the two words that would come to mind, if indeed she had been asked to sum him up also. Goldsteen however had said that sometimes, he just felt like throwing caution to the wind and seeing what happened, Leena suspected he meant it in a disparaging way and the almost forlorn look upon his face bore that out to an extent. Either way though, the man was indeed 'Human', much to the Bartenders relief. "In those times, perhaps I'll remember what you said, and I'll manage to start thinking logically again like I am supposed to", Goldsteen had added. Leena nodded again. "You do that Alex, but just remember your not a Vulcan, logic is NOT the be all and end all. Sometimes you just gotta do what your heart is telling you.... so long as it's not TOO illegal that is", she added with a wink. (Reply Goldsteen) "What time is it anyway?", asked Leena, "speaking of Vulcans, we mustn't forget that we have an appointment soon" (Reply Goldsteen) "An hour to go then", said Leena. "So, what's this Captain of yours like then?", she asked. (Reply Goldsteen) Leena laughed at his remark. It was true of course that she knew to an extent but like she had said beforehand, she knew what she needed to know, not what the actual people themselves were like. (Reply Goldsteen, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Holodeck 2 – Corporal Houseman - 22:40) Houseman looked at the battle raging below him. From his vantage point he was able to get a good view of the battle field. He snipped a few shots at an advancing marine making her duck for cover. He gave a slight grin as he watched her scan the area to find out where he was hiding. He saw CPO Marrun creeping behind a group of marines. ~Go on Marrun your nearly there. A few more feet and you have the flag~ He positioned himself and began giving Marrun cover shots. A large die explosion appeared on one of the marines as he hit him right in the chest sending him to the floor. He looked over to see Marrun now closer to the marines and it appeared that he had forgotten the flag completely. ~What’s he doing?~ He watched in horror as Marrun leaped at the first marine with what looked like his combat knife in his hand. "Jeezus man!!", "get a grip, what the hell....." Houseman watched in horror for a split second Marrun began attacking the marines. He quickly snapped out of it was he hauled himself over the edge of the roof of the tower and dropped to the ground. "Marrun, Marrun!!!", cried another, "He's gone AWOL, get that damned knife off of him now before he does anymore.... erumph!!!" As he charged towards Marrun he could see the other marines had stopped fighting and were hurrying over to help their mates. "NEEEEEEAAAAGH!!", "Bastards!!! Bastards!!!", "Evil, twisted sons of bitches, I'll kill you all, I'll Kill you all!!" As Houseman reached the struggling Marrun he saw that Marrun was being pinned down by a large group of marines. ~He’s secure good~ He stood where he was for a second surveying the scene in front of him. He saw that the wounded from Marrun’s attack were being collected in one corner of the holodeck. So he hurried over and knelt down beside a marine. “Where are you hurt?” He saw that the marines hand was clamped over his abdomen and that there was blood oozing through his fingers. “He just went crazy and attacked us.” Houseman saw the marines face contorted with pain. “Ow god that hurts, never thought that it would be this bad.” “Hold on marine. We’ll get you sorted.” He stood up again. “Right lets get the wounded to sickbay.” He paused looked at the other wounded. “Computer emergency transport every one within a six meter radius from my location to sickbay.” ~Yeh that should be right~ He saw the room disappear as he felt the transport grip him. (reply any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Sickbay – CMO’s Office - CMO Williams - 23:01) “Got it, brilliant.” He looked down at the tricorder in his hand. He had been able to make the machine sensitive enough to scan for the DNA irregularity that he was looking for. His moment of triumph disappeared when he heard the whine of the transports. ~Oh ow~ As he looked into main sickbay he saw a group of marines materialise. He immediately saw that some were not well as they were helped on to bio-beds. He tapped a quick command into the console alerting Douwsy and Pelletier that he needed them in sickbay and then moved towards the marines. “What’s happened?” He asked as he reached the first marine. (reply marines, any) (reply marines, any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - Marine, Lance Corporal Tarby - 23:03) The resultant molecular shimmer as the STS put them down in sickbay, caused the marines skin to crawl whilst his open wound continued to ooze blood. The pain was hellish, knife wounds invariably were more painful than phasor hits due to the seration on the blade both tearing, and sawing the flesh upon it's entry and exit. Why this had happened, nobody was sure at this precise moment in time. Marrun had seemingly blown a gasket, his mind gripped by irrational fear and yet despite this, the code that existed between the Marines themselves was as intact as ever it was. Doc Williams of course was his usual efficient self, dutifully pulling himself away from the experiment he had been pursueing upon their arrival to rush to those that obviously needed attention. "What’s happened?", he asked somewhat incredulously. "Umm, knife...", said Tarby with a forced smile. (Reply Williams) "You asked, I told you", said Tarby, "Just fix it and be done" (Reply Williams) Well that was just wonderful, why did Doctors have to be so by the book all the time, and for such a small wound as well!! "We were yomping, then we were playing.... someone said that they could throw a knife better than I, we played some more then.... well, Knife", said Tarby, repeating the one word answer in regards the reason for his injury. (Reply Williams) Obviously the Doctor wasn't buying this, a report would have to be made to their MCO regardless and whether they were protecting one of their own right now or not, Krige, or indeed his immediate subordinate would not be so willing to let things lie. The Doctor had frowned and then sighed heavily at the Lance Corporals obvious sidestepping of the reasons behind all of this, then he got on with the work he had been tasked to perform. Pensive...? Considering the Captain's hybrid Vulcan heritage, did that actually constitute a joke of sorts, or a contradiction in terms may'be? Perhaps so. Either way, the day in question in regards this log entry had been filled with if's and but's, along with a veritable sprinkling of 'Accidents' and 'Mishaps' along the way, that had further complicated the Federations dealings with the Ushari themselves. The Ushari were a strange species though, that much was for certain but their alliances with whoever might offer them the best deals in regards their Dilithium, somewhat overshadowed their actual sensibilities. And then there were the Cardassians, did Prime Minister Ung'Hst even know that they had been involved here? It would seem not and yet he would do before long. "Captain's log, Stardate 2408.02.02.... After begining our negotiations with the Ushari, our dealings with them have now been complicated by further incidents encountered whilst on the surface. Following Lieutenant Commander Rogers' rather unfortunate incident in Dar'Pal arcade, Ensign Yates was attacked and rendered unconscious by an unknown party, whilst giving pursuit to a second party within the boundaries of the Southern Swell Freighter Exchange" "In view of Doctor Williams recent DNA findings, it is now certain that the Cardassians ARE involved in the Dilithium deal that was taken from the Federation, although to what extent, I am unsure. It is possible, given these findings that a surgically altered Cardassian may be at work within the Ushari government itself. There are also indications that the Obsidian Order is at work here, and after encountering an unusual 'Ghost' sensor image whilst performing routine perimeter scans, Lieutenant Vasilyovna has become concerned that we may have a cloaked vessel of indeterminate origin in orbit with us" "All attempts to disclose this possible vessel have however, proved unsuccessful. It is therefore logical to conclude that if it is indeed a cloaked vessel, then it is unlike any cloaking system we have yet encountered. In view of this, I have ordered increased perimeter security as a precaution to all, and any eventualities that may arise" "On another note, an incident with the Marines whilst engaged in an unlogged, Holodeck exercise has terminated with a number of personel needing medical attention. At this point in time there seems to be a deliberate 'blurring' of the facts involved, although Major Kowalski has assured me that the incident will be thoroughly investigated, and that the facts will be ultimately revealed. I am leaving this in his capable hands" "The Morale Officer, Ensign Kreung's pet Rabbit continues to be a source of trouble on board. It bears an almost intrinsic capability to be able to effect escape from virtually any, and all closed environments it happens to be contained within, and has succeeded in being able to move between decks, seemingly at will and with a great deal of stealth..... "What can't you keep up and why?" "All of this," Michael said one hand gesturing to the ship that surrounded them. "I feel so isolated, alone. I don't think I've managed to make one good friend since I made first officer, hell, even before that it was hard. People don't stop and talk to me anymore, they get all stiff, no one smiles at me unless they want something. I know I'm supposed to be their boss, but I wouldn't mind a friend too." Michael said, turning his head to look at Emma. "Except you, you're all I have out here." "Eh, you're like a lost puppy, I can't help myself," Emma said with a friendly smile. "What about on the Paladin, was it like this there?" "Yes and No. I can't say I was really close to anybody there, but the atmosphere was different. The War was in full swing, there was a tension that everyone felt, I think. Half the people were to afraid to get close to anyone, and the other half were hell bent on destroying themselves before the enemy got the chance. There was this sense of desperation whenever the senior staff got together, like there it was the last time we might ever have the chance. That under current tainted every relationship on the ship. And then I got here, just before the final attack on Earth. The tensions were so high, and then shortly after we met up with out strike group, I was in command of a ship. Then it was over, done, nothing left to do but wait." Michael said. "And then I went home, something I had wanted to do so badly. I made it home to my family, and it was great. Six months with the people I loved, people who knew what I looked like in something other than a uniform. Then I came back here and realized something was missing." Michael said. Emma put her arm around his shoulders, giving him a gentle squeeze. "You never were one for being alone. Always surrounded by friends, although I'm not sure if that was because you wanted a lot of friends, or because you spent so much energy taking care of everyone else, that you needed people to look after you, I think it was more the latter. Ben was always there to cheer you up whenever you slipped into a melancholy mood, and Alicia mothered us all incessantly. You were always the protective one, looking out for everyone, always stressing out when one of us did something stupid, which is generally what college kids do, so I'm not surprised you had your work cut out for you." Emma said giving Michael's shoulder one last squeeze before removing her arm. She hated to see him like this, and wished she knew what to say. "You're probably right," Michael said leaning back in the couch. "I know I am, and I've got good news for you," Emma said, "You're not alone anymore," Then she slowly leaned over and kissed Michael, an action he returned in kind. Michael was positive the kiss lasted for an eternity, although the report was unreliable as Michael had better things to pay attention to than the time. When they finally separated it was near torture. He had dreamed about that kiss for years, back in college he had hoped he'd get up the courage to ask Emma out and that maybe someday the kiss would happen. Then after school, it was the dream that wouldn't let him forget that lingering regret. But the kiss, the real thing, made all that regret better, or at least let him laugh at his own idiocy and lack of self confidence. Michael would realize this all later once he started thinking again, however at that moment he was still refraining for too much brain activity. Michael brushed his finger tips across Emma's cheek, sweeping a loose strand of hair back over her ear. "I love you Emma Morrissey, I think I've always loved you," Michael said softly, looking into Emma's pale blue eyes. "You are the most amazing person I have ever met. You're beautiful and brilliant and caring and...Why in the name of all that's holy didn't I tell you this years ago?" Michael asked. "Because years ago, I hadn't just kissed you and turned off the part of your brain that thinks too much, but still, it would have done wonders for my ego to hear that years ago," she said with a small smile. "I love you too, you know," Emma said, he face serious for a minute. She had been waiting for this as long as Michael had. "always have, always will." She kissed him on the tip of the nose before flashing him a devilish smile. "Now if I remember correctly, we were just starting to make up for lost time," she said, thoroughly enjoying what came next. Staring at the wall she wondered if last night had been a dream or something when she was quickly reminded that it wasn't by the soft snoring coming from behind her. Quietly and carefully rolling over she saw Michael lying there, on his back, his mouth partially open, the sheets covering him through some random act of modesty on their part. His eyes darted back and forth beneath their lids, chasing some kind of subconscious phantasm. She wondered for the umpteenth time, as she watched him, why either of them had waited for so long to say something. It was the oddest thing to her, she wasn't super outgoing, but she wasn't a vestal virgin by any means, she'd had her share of relationships, or at least what she considered normal for a woman her age who hadn't settled down, but for some reason she'd always gotten nervous when it came to Michael, and he seemed the same way with her. Maybe it was because they had been good friends before the attraction really started and maybe it was just because it was the one relationship she couldn't deal with not working. Whatever the reasons were, they had both made their feelings known the night before, and Emma didn't want to look back anymore. She watched him for a few more moments before she carefully slipped out from under the sheets and into the bathroom, grabbing a uniform along the way. Michael mumbled incoherently as he rolled over towards her side of the bed and pulled the sheets up tighter around his shoulders. ~~You never were a morning person,~~ she thought with a soft smile as she decided to let him sleep. She emerged from the shower a handful of minutes later, fully clothed, bashful of being naked around Michael, even after last night. She had her hair up and her shoes on before she looked over at Michael, who was quietly watching her, a contented look on his face. "You weren't just going to let me sleep through my shift were you?" Michael asked, sitting up and stretching. "No, but we don't have to be on duty for a while yet, I just figured you were a little more tired than usual after last night." Emma said, winking at him and watching him pull the sheets back up to cover himself. "Nothing I haven't already seen, big boy," She said with a playful growl. Michael glared at her and stood up, letting the sheet fall to the floor. "If I didn't have to go on duty...," Michael said, leaving the threat hanging, a mock scowl on his fact as he strutted into the bathroom in all his glory. Michael walked out into the living room, tugging on his uniform jacket, carrying his shoes. "I smell bacon," Michael said as he walked up behind Emma and wrapped his arms around her. She was a good six or seven inches shorter than he was, and fit perfectly in his arms. He gently kissed the top of her head, and deftly swiped the plate of breakfast from her hands before quickly retreating to the table. "That was your plate anyway, you pig," Emma said with a mock sigh as she took her plate from the replicator. She sat down next to Michael, closer than was necessary, but neither Michael nor Emma was going to complain. They ate in near silence, a comfortable one, the talk not rising above idle work chatter. When they were done, Emma leaned against Michael, who put his arm around her shoulders. "No regrets about last night?" She asked, craning her neck to look up at him from her position. "Only that it didn't happen years ago," Michael said quietly, "Although I wonder, if it's not better that we ended up together now, instead of then. We would have been split up if we'd gotten together back in college, now we can at least be on the same ship. Oh, and remind me to send the personnel department, a really good bottle of whiskey, I owe them big time." Emma just chuckled and stood up to get ready for her shift while Michael cleaned up after breakfast. "Lunch, Ten forward, at 1200 hours?" Michael asked. "Wouldn't miss it," Emma said with a suddenly shy smile, as they both meet at the door. Michael caught her before the door opened and pulled her in close, before leaning down and giving her a long kiss. "More later," Michael said when they finally separated. "Tease," Emma said, blushing slightly, then flashing him a smile and heading out the door, in one direction, Michael whistling, as he went the others. (Reply None/Any) (Posted by Patrick D.) Amari looked around, the crates takiing up most of the available space. She quickly palmed the door shut and let her cat out. Ptasa leapt with a hiss out of the carton and was under the bed very quickly. The NCO laughed, "She'll adjust soon enough. Such a pretty cat. Well I'd best be goinna back to work and ye best freshen yerself up and go report in." Amari glanced around her quarters and sat down heavily on the doubly lonely bed. She wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry or what. Instead she pulled the closest duffel over to pull out a fresh uniform, her brush and scent. She moved into the other room, took a quick wash up, then re-dressed. She smelled the uniform - it had Myriah's touch of jasmine that she'd scented all their drawers with. She quickly set out a bowl of food and water for Ptasa, then headed to report in. She knew she looked good. She knew her record spoke for her. As she arrived outside the Captain's Ready Room, she hit the button, waiting nervously. (Reply Captain, any) (posted by Melinda) (USS Spectre - Bridge - FO Commander Michael Ian O'Connor - 11:30) Michael sat in the command chair, humming under his breath as he looked over the reports from the previous shift. The problem with the Captain being down on the surface was that Michael didn't have time to sit at his desk and get the staff reporting done. However as it was quiet, he was managing to get a few things checked off his daily to do list. He was working reviewing the CPO recommendations for Petty officer Ulanti's promotion to Chief, when he heard someone ring the Ready room door chime. He looked up to see a Lieutenant in Science/Medical blue. They had just gotten a new transfer in, and as Michael didn't recognize this lieutenant, he assumed this must have been her. "Captain is planet side at the moment, Lieutenant. What can I help you with?" Michael asked, a friendly smile on his face. (Reply Riya) "I can take care of that now, no point in trotting you back up here when the Captain beams back up, when ever that might be." Michael said then stood up. (USS Spectre - Bridge - Lt Amari Riya - 11:32) Amari turned at the voice with a soft, cute eep as she peered at the person in the chair. She refused to admit that she was just a bit near sighted. "I was told to report in, Sir. No one told me as to whom, I assumed the Captain." She stood at attention trying to look around. Part of her mind was racing in circles about first impressions and messing up. A snicker from someone to her left almost had her turning to glare, but she held still only fidgeting a little bit. That was about when it occurred to her that she should introduce herself, "I'm Lt Amari Riya, Sir, assigned as a science officer." Even though she felt a flush of heat to her face, there was a touch of pride to her voice. She really wanted to ramble but bit the inside of her lip in a slight worry that perhaps this crew was different from those on a starbase. On a base everyone knew each other and was all over each other's business. Her short stint on a ship previously hadn't quite been that way but then she was just lowly ensign. She dared to cast her betazoid matte green blue eyes up at him, in the hopes that perhaps he'd have both some pity and a sense of humor. "I can take care of that now, no point in trotting you back up here when the Captain beams back up, when ever that might be." Michael said then stood up. "No bad marks on your record from the base commander, so I don't really care why you left. Unless there's a reason I should, in which case I expect you would tell me." Michael said good naturedly. A few moments passed and then he spoke, "I have to ask, as I had a bad run in with some alien botany on my last assignment, are any of your experiments likely to cause death and or destruction, or the possibility, or a spore of some kind being released into the air that will cause us all to mutate into some kind of Monkey looking things?" Michael asked leaning back in his chair, an obvious mock serious expression on his face. Amari bubbled a giggle. "Well uhmm there's always a ~chance~ but I doubt it. And anyways that is why we have clean rooms and protocols...." Her voice trailed off as she vividly remembered the mess with the wheat on the base and protocols failing. ~Well you learned what not to do, girl.~ She picked up the thread of the conversation after a second of distraction, "I've seen first hand what discarding or skimping on protocols can wreak. My staff will do no such thing or they'll be cleaning the floor of the lab with an old fashioned toothbrush to learn the value of discipline. Ergh. Sir." She added again, shifting a little bit. (Ushar Prime - Dar'Pal Arcade - Captain T'Vhor - 13:10) With a certain degree of trepidation, the Captain studied the area with much concern. This of course was where Lieutenant Commander Rogers had been felled a few days beforehand, and the fact that the man was here alongside him right now was indicative of either luck, or sheer temerity. T'Vhor did not believe in luck of course, did any Vulcan? So, that left temerity, a quality certainly not lacking in the former FO if his usual recklessness was anything to go by that was. He did have one thing going for him though and that was his almost miraculous robustness and ability to bounce back whatever, which to some perhaps might be construed as 'Lucky' anyway. "Mr Rogers, I was thinking of your exploits of a few days prior", said the Captain turning to address the SFI officer. (Reply Rogers) "I was thinking specifically of your past work with Starfleet Intelligence and how it might possibly assist us now", said the Captain. (Reply Rogers) "I am certainly not advocating spying Lieutenant Commander, I am merely suggesting that any 'specific' abilities you may have in regards disclosing certain individuals from, let us say, high places, might come in useful at this juncture in time", said the Captain. (Reply Rogers) "We know that someone within the Ushari upper echelons is not who they appear to be, I want you to see if you can find out who that is and if possible, who they might be reporting back to", said the Captain. Perhaps a more 'local' focused attempt to scan for broadcasts might prove more fruitful" (Reply Rogers) The Captain nodded. Obviously Rogers seemed pleased, after all, even though the Captain had specifically refused him to resort to spying, this was probably as close as he was going to get to it per se and he was now heading off seemingly charged and bouyant once again. "Mr Rogers", said the Captain calling after the now disappearing SFI man. (Reply Rogers) "Report any findings directly to myself first, do I make myself clear?", said the Captain. The Captain nodded and then watched the Lieutenant Commander disappear. (Reply Rogers, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Ushar Prime - Dar'Pal Arcade - STI Agent - Lt. He had gotten shot, sort of arrested, and had some sort of a nervous breakdown while sneaking around. For some reason, he found himself in the company of the Captain in the same place he had been shot. Rogers sighed heavily and looked around the place with a grim, realistic look about the place. "Mr Rogers, I was thinking of your exploits of a few days prior", T'Vhor said. "So was I, Captain. I was thinking about what a mitigated disaster it was," Rogers said. "I was thinking specifically of your past work with Starfleet Intelligence and how it might possibly assist us now", said the Captain. Rogers turned and raised an eyebrow to the Vulcan. "Really? Commissioning spying now, Captain?" Rogers asked. "I am certainly not advocating spying Lieutenant Commander, I am merely suggesting that any 'specific' abilities you may have in regards disclosing certain individuals from, let us say, high places, might come in useful at this juncture in time", said the Captain. "Can you be more specific, sir?" Rogers asked, feeling a strong feeling of his STI days. "We know that someone within the Ushari upper echelons is not who they appear to be, I want you to see if you can find out who that is and if possible, who they might be reporting back to", said the Captain. "Well, the Spectre can monitor communications," Rogers explained. "Why send your loose cannon when some tin cans tied together with string will do?" "I would imagine that they are not using standard communications protocols, Lieutenant Vasilyovna has already attempted to scan for discrete communications coming from the surface, but has so far found nothing untoward. Perhaps a more 'local' focused attempt to scan for broadcasts might prove more fruitful" "Sounds perfect, Captain," Rogers said. "I'll start listening around right away," he said. "We used to do this thing all the time in STI," he said. Rogers quickly headed off, before being stopped by the Captain. "Mr Rogers," The Vulcan called. Rogers stopped, smiled the opposite direction, before turning back to T'Vhor. "Sir!" he called. "Report any findings directly to myself first, do I make myself clear?", said the Captain. "Captain? (Ushar Prime - Dar'Rhual Annex - Captain T'Vhor - 13:26) The Captain had only recently arrived at the annex for his brief meeting with the Prime minister and his home secretary, the thought of just how the Lieutenant Commander would now proceed with his previous order still fresh in his mind. It wasn't that the Captain didn't trust the SFI man of course, it was just.... well, he did have a certain knack for getting himself into tight spots when the Federation least needed it. As though on key though, and designed almost to take the Starfleet CO's mind away from those straying thoughts, the Prime minister immediately began updating the Captain on his own recent findings in regards their recent Cardassian involvement. It seemed that the Cardassian in custody was beginning to spill the beans, and was now on the verge of incriminating a key figure within the Ushari government itself. It was then however that the home secretary received a communication and stepped discretely away so as to address it. It didn't take long of course for both the Prime minister and the Captain to note that something bad had just occurred, and the look upon the home secretary's face as he turned towards Ung'Hst left them in no doubt whatsoever. "There's been an explosion sir!", exclaimed the home secretary, "in the government building itself" "What!", said Ung'Hst taken aback, "how bad?" The home secretary just shook his head, "unknown at this time sir, I suggest we get back right away" The PM nodded his agreeance and then turned to the Captain, who in turn was already receiving a communication from the ship. "You know where to find me Captain, we will need to speak very soon on this matter", said Ung'Hst just as the home secretary motioned to him that transport was now pending. He NEEDED to quickly modify the device to begin listening for possibly secret transmissions, if T'Vhor was right about this whole thing. ~These are different from the ones we had in the STI,~ Rogers thought with a smirk, when suddenly, he looked up and saw a bright flash that overpowered his optical nerves and gave him a painful headache as he reflexively moved his forearm to cover his eyes. Then, the heat wave hit him, and he turned his shoulders around, putting his back to the blast, as he heard the roar of the blast, as it reverberated throughout the enclosed Ushari city. A sense of disorientation passed through Rogers, and he glanced helplessly around the scene, before his sense of location and purpose returned to him. Rogers holstered his tricorder and took out his phaser, and throwing out any discretion, he carried it in the open as his eyes scanned the crime scene for anybody involved. "Help! Somebody help me!" An Ushari voice cried. Rogers saw two Ushari standing over a third, who had been critically burned by the blast and was laying helplessly on the street. Rogers sprinted over to the group, and knelt before scanning the victim with his tricorder. ~You can do this, Brian. You did graduate from the Academy with a Medical Major,~ he thought as the medical reading came in through the tricorder. "She's burned badly," Rogers said to the two survivors. "Burns over 80% of her body. Get me a medical kit, now." Rogers commanded. "Where? Everything is gone! ALL GONE!" one of the two said, panic was deep in his voice. "Please, just find one," Rogers pleaded, and the Ushari man nodded and stumbled off down the streets. "Don't touch her, she's very likely to get a deadly infection at this point," Rogers instructed to the other survivor. He stood up and took a few paces away from the injured Ushari and tapped his comm badge. But, at least Mark had stayed where he was supposed to. Even if his breath smelled like the mostly empty bowl of cool ranch chips. She'd kicked Rameriz out of her quarters, kicked off her boots, pulled off her uniform and flomped on her bed just in time to hear the call for all medically trained personnel. With a groan she rolled off the bed and called up the site report on her terminal. While trained as a paramedic, she wouldn't be one of the first down, she had time to get situated. Triage teams would have priority. She was scheduled for the fourth team.. which didn't exactly leave her a whole heck of a lot of time. Pulling on a T-Shirt that proudly declared her a member of the Academy beer bowling league and a pair of excersise shorts, she grabbed a pair of running shoes and a PADD and rushed out the door. She remembered to summon Rameriz back to her quarters for guard duty as the Turbolift doors closed. It wasn't surprising that the majority of those going down where in blue - medical knowledge was a requirement for science and counselling. ~Make us useful when the universe is going to hell, I suppose.~ She wished there was an "Idiot's Guide to Ushari Physiology" available. She didn't need to know how many valves their hearts had, did she? She just wanted to know proper alignment of bones and limbs and how to judge general health. Too bad whoever had written the report was obviously under a vow of silence and was getting frustration out via the written word. At least, that was one of the few excuses she could come up with for the rambling blather. "Team Seven." The transporter operator called, and Jynea followed the team up to the transporter pad. She'd been happy to see she wasn't the ranking officer and wouldn't be responsible for the team. The Ushari security services were of course well in attendance, as were the medical and other emergency services that now teemed around, ferrying an almost constant flow of either walking wounded or critically injured to places of safety. Portable medical service areas had quickly been established and Ushari medics could now be seen working frantically to stabilise those that had had the misfortune to be arriving to them. Both Donaldson and Goldsteen stood nearby the Captain, both surveying the area for possible threats now and standing ready for further orders. Ushari Security was a capable department by anyones standards, but it lacked some of the equipment Starfleet routinely carried aboard it's starships. Upon his arrival in the control room, two Ushari were currently engaged in the disassembly of the feeds from the surveilence equipment in place around the government buildings, one noting almost imediately that a hooded figure could be seen in more than one of the feeds, the subsequent ones certainly being in keeping with someone that was moving progressively towards the exact area the explosion had occured. In no time at all though, the Captain had observed that the Ushari utilised specific field detection on all of their monitoring devices and with that in mind, he quickly addressed the Security personnel themselves. "Did the equipment monitor any radio emissions at or around the time of the explosion?", said T'Vhor as he leaned onto the desk to more closely survey the feed being currently displayed. "I'm not sure, we haven't checked", said the Security man. "What would you hope to find in that?", he added inquiringly. The Captain stood up straight again and quirked his head slightly to the side. "Unless our assailant was on a suicide mission, I would assume that he used a remote trigger of some kind, probably in a relatively unused band and typically close to frequencies he might use in general communication to his allies", said the Captain. The Ushari looked slightly confused at that point, seemingly not seeing the viable connection at that moment in time. "Humour me", said the Captain as he realised the Security mans unsureness in that area. At that, the Ushari returned his attention to the equipment and began searching for transmissions as suggested, a result coming quicker than expected prompting the Ushari to turn about surprised. "It seems you are right", said the Ushari, "an unauthorised transmission in the EM band, a frequency not used on Ushar", he added. "It occured at precisely one point four seconds before detonation. That was followed by another transmission on a similar band one minute and forty two seconds later" "Can you determine the recipient of that transmission?", asked the Captain. "No, I am only able to verify a transmission. It was not answered from a source nearby so triangulation is not possible", said the Security Officer. "The Spectre will be able to verify transmissions from anywhere on the surface if they indeed took place on Ushar", said the Captain, "I will query this as soon as possible", he added as he turned towards both Donaldson and Goldsteen who stood nearby. "The assailant was observed heading East from the Government buildings, I suspect that he will have removed his hood by now but he will be carrying a transmitter capable of EM transmissions", said the Captain, "Liase with the Spectre and see if you are able to track his course via Tricorder and orbital sensor data", he added. Get yourself ready.” (reply any) She turned back, bringing the Thunder Hammer in low over the disaster site. ~This looks nasty~ She expertly put the Thunder Hammer into a hover over the landing sight and then carefully placed it onto the scorched land. ~Touch down~ She spooled down the engines and retracted the vessel struts so that the access hatches could be open. “Okay every one, we’re down.” (reply any) (posted by Robbie) (UShar Prime - Coordinators office - CMO Williams - 14:17) Andrew was ushered into an office at the back of the building which had survived the blast. There were three Usharians talking in a group. They stopped and turned to face Andrew as he entered. "So Dr Williams it seems that you get yourself all over the place in the last couple of days." Andrew nodded to Dr Mun’Char. "It seams so Dr Mun’Char. I am here at the request from the Prime Minister and my Captain." Dr Mun’Char gave him a long hard look. "You do seem to be pushing your weight around especially with you landing that shuttle. Trust the Federation to muscle in." Andrew turned to the Usharian male who had spoken. "As I have said I was asked to give medical assistance and I have. My medical teams are at this moment helping your injured and assisting your medical staff. My medical staff on board my ship are treating some of your sickest casualties and also helping to transport others to a safer location. The shuttle that you mentioned is a mobile field hospital which will give your medical teams more space to work from." He gave him a hard stare. "If you want I can call my captain and tell him that we are not needed?" "That is enough Dr Kantas. That will not be necessary." Dr Mun’Char's voice cut across the room like a thunder clap. The male Usharian flinched and took a step back. Dr Mun’Char gave him a hard look and then turned to Andrew. "I have only just arrived, we have been flooded with casualties and I have been getting a report from the team on the ground. So tell me what your situation is?" Andrew paused for a moment as he tried to gather his thoughts in to some kind of order. "Well Dr Mun’Char I do not have all the up to date information but I can tell you we have at least seven medical teams on the scene as we speak. I have a number of patients in my sickbay as we speak and the arrival of the shuttle means that your on site medical capacity has increased." He saw Dr Mun’Char nod at what he had said. "Dr Williams, I need more specifics then that. I want a proper update. When you have the information that I need then come and find me." He watched as Dr Mun’Char turned back to her staff and the he saw a flicker of a sneer cross the Dr Kantas's face. He ignored it as he turned and left the room. When he had found a quiet area he took out his PADD and then taped his comm badge. "Dr Williams to all surface medical teams, give me an update." (reply all medical team) "Dr Williams to Sickbay give me an update."
