Stardate: 3 Years Previously (Bernard Street – Earth, near Starfleet Academy – Perra Tolqu - 15:05) Perra flicked back her long brunette hair, knowing that the way the light fell, it would send a slight sparkle in his direction as the folds of her thick sleek hair glimmered and gracefully dropped over her shoulder. As Perra gently touched her date’s arm, she could feel his pulse race as she made physical contact with him. She laughed at all his jokes at the right time and leaned forward attentively as he spoke, nodding where needed or frowning when required as he described himself in funny situations through his life. When he moved towards his glass to drink, she mimicked him, knowing this would help him feel even more attracted to her. Perra had long studied the biological nature and habits of life forms, knowing how to come across as pleasing or menacing as and when was needed, this occasion being the former. She slowly raised her hand making eye contact as she curled a small braid of her flowing hair and coiled it around her fingers, knowing this excited him as she watched his pupils dilate, smiling with warmth as the man continued to bluster how he would be the youngest Starfleet Captain in its history. ~ A very common boast among fresh young new cadets ~ She continued to nod with agreement, almost amazed he could not notice the detest she felt towards him, the inner core of her being burned with the pure heart of venegence at what he stood for. As she smiled at his remarks, she made it more convincing visiually by simple picturing what she would be doing to him at a later date. To any passerby it was obvious this was a new couple which seemed to be very much in the clutches of new love, their laughing carried over the square where they sat. The gentle breeze rustled through the streets, as the sun shone down almost as if the ray beams themselves approved of this couple’s shared moment. She had need not have bothered with the added pheromones she was wearing to make her seem more alluring. The handy vial had been purchased with synthetic female human pheromones that gave her an edge when talking to human males and sent the men she stood near giving her second, third and even fourth glances, each time hoping to catch her eye. This young cadet was fawning over the moment she had arranged their accidental meeting. A few days before she had stationed herself just outside the local coffee bar where she knew he drank every morning. Knowing exactly what time he would be appearing, within a minute or two depending on how long he spoke to the owner, a fat jolly old man who seemed to befriend every customer as if they where long lost comrades come back from travels to be reunited with that feeling of home and old colleagues. She had selected him from the other cadets because he was boring, an average cadet who would only ever end up being a crewman, she needed someone gullible and potentially disposable. Most importantly was his residential location, in Starfleet Academy and his future use to her. A simple dropping of the contents of her bag, a slipped PADD with her office address which also by a stroke of his luck was his hometown of London . This had as she intended kicked in his honourable duty to help a lady in need and start a conversation about the coincidence of coming from the same part of the world. Perra had acted coyly and submissive, mentioning many varied landmarks and hotspots where she knew he had frequented before moving to Starfleet. She had seen his files, she had done her research, Latinum or a more aggressive option always got Perra the information she needed, she liked to be thorough. Once she had marked him as her target she had gone to his old town, researched his friends, found out every detail she could before this first meeting. Finally she had paid a hefty price for all the information about this young cadet from the Starfleet database and more so his invaluable psych report, letting her into his fears and ambitions. In this way she had fashioned her character to suit his desires and needs, she knew he liked this kind of woman, coy, shy yet intelligent with a hint of independence. The human transfiguration into her current appearance was easily done, and she had gone all out to impress him, she had changed and lengthened her hair knowing Brunettes was he favourite, she had augmented her breast size making sure her cleavage was full and voluptuous, something she felt slightly uncomfortable with causing her a constant back ache, but she also knew it was something he would find irresistible. She added a few freckles to her face, centralizing them around her nose and cheeks. Breathlessly she had accepted his offer of a coffee the next day, and agreed to the lunch date the day after. Never seeming too forward yet letting him know she wanted to see him again. Until this point here and now where she knew she was in full control of this young man, He was putty in her hands, yet at almost the same it took all of her willpower not to lean forward and snap his neck. Her disgust at this young pup’s naïve views sickened her, and the Starfleet uniform infuriated her, she wanted to see it melting off his body as she flayed his skin with a rusty metallic object preferably blunt. But Perra thought she knew how to control her feelings and would forego this moment’s pleasure for her long term aims. As the afternoon continued Perra almost glowed with her beauty, and the young Cadet felt the aura invade his senses, his bravado increased as the sun began to set in the sky and he knew he was falling in love with this stranger he had just met. It seemed fate had smiled on him at last and everything was falling into place, a placement in Starfleet which was quickly followed by meeting this woman, he felt as if all his luck had arrived at once. As Perra continued her façade, she felt an alarm go off in her ankle; she had an implant there with a transceiver just a few millimetres under her skin. She barely suppressed a gasp as she felt the small device begin to tap against her flesh. Almost gritting her teeth to keep from showing any difference in her attention she was giving to her target. She tried thinking of a good reason to leave yet keep him enticed until she dealt with this matter. Continuing to smile she placed her arm on his arm. “Though this evening has been wonderful my dear I really must go I have a conference tomorrow and I don’t want to keep you away from your Starfleet studies.” Seeing the misery grow on his face, she secretly felt elated that she had him so captivated with her, but right now Perra had more pressing matters to deal with. The device went off few and far between, the last time it had activated the situation was serious enough for her to warrant a return to Ornaran her only one since leaving. She felt a pang of fear mixed with an urge of anger at being disturbed, she paid well enough not to be bothered, unless she wanted to contact back of her own free will, she had made it very clear what would happen if she was contacted needlessly. After a further few minutes fawning and promising to meet again the next day she made her farewells, briefly kissing him on the lips as she made her way to the small apartment she had rented a few clicks from the Academy. As she entered the room she gave it a quick visual scan before pulling out her tri-corder and giving the room and the rooms next to her, above and below her a good scan. She had rented out each room under a different name, ensuring she was the only resident in the entire block. Usually she did not go such extravagant methods but so close to Starfleet she did not want to take any risk of being noticed or raising undue attention. This way she had the entire building to herself and could safely finish off her plans in peace when they came to fruitarian. Plus a small dent in her current funds for renting 8 rooms was a worthwhile effort if it brought her closer to her final aims. Also she knew the money could be made back with ease on just one contract sent to her from the Syndicate if she requested it. Once satisfied she was alone and no devices had been planted she moved to a suitcase she stored in a locked cupboard, before reaching in to grab the suitcase, she slowly reached up under the inside seal and felt the latch which concealed a DNA print verification system to deactivate the explosives she had scattered throughout the apartments. Whoever entered this room had 5 minutes before it was the last place they ever saw. With a strange expression over her face she bent down and gently lifted the suitcase, almost tenderly carrying it to the table before laying it down and caressing the sides, Perra slowly ran her fingers along the side panels, around the corners slowing her speed as she neared the latches to open the suitcase. Looking up into the mirror Perra stared back at a face she did not recognise. How much had changed, but some parts of her could not. Slowly lifting open the suitcase Perra looked down into its contents. Scatters of paper with child like drawings on the where strewn across the surface, an Ornaran rattle lay on it’s side in the corner as tradition dictated the handle was woven from the bearers’ mother’s hair and several picture frames lay throughout the case. Burying her hands deeper she pulled out a small oblong flat screened device and laid it next to the suitcase, casually she waved her hand over the device and a screen popped up and a console electronically zoomed out in front of her. Tapping the small console in front of her Perra switched off visuals, so the receiver would only see a black screen. As she looked into the console a young boy appeared no older than 3 maybe 4 years old, his face brightened as she opened communications, even though she knew he saw nothing, his face was a picture of joy and happiness. “Mummy” She sighed and steadied herself. Closing her eyes she controlled her breathing trying to make her mind go blank and finding the calm inner wall to her being. A trick she had learnt early in her new career, a calm killer is an efficient killer. But she struggled to hold that inner calm as visions of her past interceded. She had not expected this she thought the carer would answer the transmission. “Hello Darling, Mummy misses you very much.” “I miss you Mummy, thank you for my present.” Perra winced at the mention of the present. It was Kosto’s birthday, Adaigo her son’s carer and nanny , must have bought his present on her behalf. She had forgotten completely. Hastening on not wanting to let him know she did not know what he was talking about. “Happy Birthday my love.” Checking the time on Ornaran she deducted it was close to his bed time. “Have you had a fun day Kos .” “Oh yes mummy, Nanny Adaigo took me to the Ornaran Capital West District Museum , it was great.” “That’s wonderful darling, mummy wishes she could be there.” “Why can’t you mummy?” Before Perra could answer she heard Adaigo in the background berating Kosto gently and reminding him it was bedtime now he had talked to his mummy on his birthday. Though he looked dejected at the news, he put on a brave smile and turned back to the screen, “Sorry mummy I know you said you work very hard, Nanny Adaigo says it’s my bedtime. I love you mummy.” “I love you to Kos .” Perra watched as he son leaned forward and kissed the screen before running off into the distance and towards his bed. Adaigo appeared in front of the screen, her eyes bowed low, her hands nervously intertwined on her lap as her fingers moved rapidly, as she sat down. “Sorry mistress, he wanted to speak to you before he went to bed. You did tell me to let Kosto contact you on special occasions only.” She added the last part more out of fear than anything else, hoping Perra remembered the occasion she told her to do so. She had met Perra 3 years previously; her previous employer had hired Perra to kill her, when she had accidently walked into her Master’s bedroom only to find it occupied but not with his wife. He had ensured she would never mention it again. Though it was not worth it, Adaigo would have gone to her grave with his secret. Late at night a few days later, she woke to find the cold steal of a blade stuck to her throat and the silhouette of Perra above her. Perra had given her a choice die or work for her back on Ornaran. She had a son in a care home and she wanted Adaigo to be his Nanny, she told Adaigo her life was now Perra’s to do as she saw fit. Adaigo shuddered at that fateful night’s proceedings as Perra materialized a corpse of Adaigo into the room. It looked exactly like her in every detail. What sickened her was the sudden realisation someone else was killed by this assassin so she could live, a nameless soul who would never be recognized for who they where. An unknown being thought of by everyone as dead. This woman really did have her life in her hands. “It’s ok Adaigo you did the right thing. What did you buy him?” Smiling warmly Adaigo realised Perra was in one of rare good moods, she had known her now a long time and could read quickly how to behave, she learnt fast enough Perra was not someone to be messed with, if that fateful first night hadn’t already proved that to her. Later Perra had explained she had investigated her past and knew her to be an innocent victim and she was breaking every command of her order but she had a better use for Adaigo than death. “I bought the young master the latest holo-novel of Doctor Jiggles and the Spaceship of Fun. He does love them so.” “You did right contacting me before he went to bed, goodnight Adaigo.” Perra smiled at this ridiculous sounding holo-novel, she bid her farewell to Adaigo. Placing the device back into the suitcase Perra placed it back where she got it from as she walked into the other room. Everything had gone to plan today and she had seen her son. Things looked they where falling into place. A table was laid out a few metres from her bed a tray of gadgets and surgical equipment lay neatly in rows ready to be used. She walked to the tray running her fingers over various devices, clasping a metallic object she checked its hinges and placed it up to her eyes, the devices fitted keeping her eyelids open preventing her from blinking. She smiled as she placed it back on the table. Looking up to the view screen that projected down from the ceiling, so anyone lying on the table would have a direct view of the screen. Perra smiled everything was in place another date and she would suggest a weekend away. Then this young cadet would be in her lair, a simple drug in his drink, strapped down onto the table and the brainwashing would begin, by Monday he would be relaying her any information she requested and he would never know he had done a thing. Teverine could see the man seemed harassed and uncomfortable the way he fidgeted on his seat. "Yes? I'm sorry, but I didn't get your name before." =/\= Belakor. =/\= Belakor seemed almost reluctant to give his name, and his eyes shifted off screen to the right every couple of seconds, almost as if he was seeking an escape route. "Excellent, please to meet you. Have you had any success in locating Mathew Rogers?" =/\= It is not a pleasant finding. We do not normally allow foreigners to work in the colloquia plants, but Rogers came with high recommendations from prominent mercantile organisations here on Vedea IV. His apartment has been searched and your suspicions have proven correct - there was considerable evidence of smuggling. =/\= "Really?" Teverine frowned as Nico stole a glance at him, only moments before when he had checked there was no Matthew Rogers on the database. As Nico continued to talk, Teverine looked down bringing up all data on Matthew Rogers, to his amazement a full file had mysteriously appeared on his screen verifying everything Belakor had just said. "What kind of evidence, if you don't mind me asking?" =/\= A data dump was found containing contact information for several ... disreputable pharmaceutical companies. And there were three samples of our algae in the room. =/\= Belakor was almost too informative and Teverine cross checked the new data and was not surprised to see who had entered the information. =/\= We have contacted security forces and he will be apprehended forthwith. =/\= "Was there any evidence of actual smuggling?" =/\= Not solid evidence, no. When he is questioned we will discover more. The Vedean people are in your debt. =/\= As the screen flickered off, Teverine quickly checked his screen to confirm all was in order, before transferring his data to Nico’s console for him to see. "This is a bit convenient, and why do I get the feeling this is not right, at least, that we're not getting the entire picture. Either those boys are a ruse, and Rogers has another way to get the drugs out while the authorities were busy with the Crown Prince - or these boys are going to find themselves handing over the cargo to a bigger outfit, probably just outside of this system. I'd like to hear from Rogers himself but I doubt we have the pull for that, and we don't even know if he has been found. Let's run a long range scan, see if we can't pick up any vessels in the outer system. At any rate we might be able to pick up the vessel which fired on the Spectre, or maybe if we're lucky we'll find a suspicious looking Ferengi trader out there or something." “You could not be more right Nico and wrong. Have a look at your console I have uploaded all relevant data.” (Reply Tchaikovsky) “It does seem odd doesn’t it, all Algae that was been taken to the docks, it seems a percentage goes missing on each cargo manifesto, here and here.” Teverine pointed to the numbers as the scrolled across the console, as he walked round and stood behind Nico. (Reply Tchaikovsky) “Exactly and here look who was in charge on each of these shifts. Belakor! And here this Matthew Rogers, when I checked earlier he was not in any records, but magically they seemed to have now appeared on the database. I think we have just been speaking to our smuggler.” (Reply Tchaikovsky) “I suggest we talk to the Crown Prince again and give them a final offer, information or arrest and let’s get to the bottom of this and move on with preparing for the Spectre.” (Reply Tchaikovsky) (Posted by Peter Richards) (SS Barwon - Shuttle Cockpit – Counsellor, Ensign JG Nico Tchaikovsky - 12:25) Nico wasn't convinced the Vedean was being totally forthcoming with information on Rogers and the potential smuggling ring. There was an evasiveness in his body language and his eyes, although it was possible Vedeans acted in that manner as a matter of course. Nico hadn't had the opportunity to study their habits. He hadn't even managed a face to face conversation with one, except for Belakor via the communicator. “You could not be more right Nico and wrong. Have a look at your console I have uploaded all relevant data.” He looked down at what Teverine had just sent him. "Whoa," Nico breathed. “It does seem odd doesn’t it, all Algae that was been taken to the docks, it seems a percentage goes missing on each cargo manifesto, here and here.” Teverine pointed to the numbers as the scrolled across the console, as he walked round and stood behind Nico. "This is not good," Nico said, again, not really believing the way a simple encounter with a couple of kids in a leased spaceship was careening wildly into something so much bigger. “Exactly," Teverine continued, "and here look who was in charge on each of these shifts. Belakor! And here this Matthew Rogers, when I checked earlier he was not in any records, but magically they seemed to have now appeared on the database. I think we have just been speaking to our smuggler.” "So who the fekt is Matthew Rogers?" Nico asked, smiling despite himself. "Why the elaborate hoax?" “I suggest we talk to the Crown Prince again and give them a final offer, information or arrest and let’s get to the bottom of this and move on with preparing for the Spectre.” "Good call," he agreed. "But you should put in the call. I've played good cop for too long, now it's your turn, Ensign." (Reply: Teverine, Crown Prince) (Posted by Ben) (SS Barwon - Shuttle Cockpit – ACSO, Ensign Teverine Tolqu - 12:27) "So who the fekt is Matthew Rogers?" Nico asked, smiling despite himself. "Why the elaborate hoax?" “I suggest we talk to the Crown Prince again and give them a final offer, information or arrest and let’s get to the bottom of this and move on with preparing for the Spectre.” "Good call," Nico agreed. "But you should put in the call. I've played good cop for too long, now it's your turn, Ensign." Teverine gave Nico a truly terrible smile at this offer; there was nothing more pleasurable to him than acting the ‘bad cop’. ~An odd Human phrase really when you consider all of the police force are considered a benefit~ Teverine quickly changed his frame of mind, now was not the time to let his mind wander. “SS Barwon to the Crown Prince.” =/\= This is Crown Prince we are reading you. =/\= Teverine looked into the view screen at the pair of young lads, allowing the silence to soak and permeate the shuttle, knowing the effect was ten times worse for the boys aboard their own vessel. He held his nerve and did not speak just stared into the eyes of these young privateers. Nico gently coughed in the background as the seconds turned into minutes. Continuing to hold their stare and glaring with all the menace he could muster he leaned towards the view screen knowing his face would now be covering their entire view screen’s aboard the Crown Prince. He spoke in a low tone allowing the growl in his voice to come through even rougher than usual as he simply said. “We know…..” The boys looked shocked and afraid as Teverine sat back and folded his arms in silence waiting. =/\= They told us there would not be any problems, they told us what to say.. =/\= Clarkingson look distraught with emotion and his companion looked none to please at Clarkingson’s outburst, this guy young as he was seemed all too familiar with rough hand tactics. Teverine smirked at the screen. “We know Matthew’s is a cover, and we know Belakor is your real contact.” There was no point not showing them your hand now. It was all or nothing time. “Make it easy on yourselves boys and tell us what you know, I assure you I will the courts will look in your favour if you tell the truth now, or your looking at a long stint in a penal colony.” The lads exchanged glances and turned their backs to the view screen in a hurried debate as to what to do next. Teverine could make out the jist of the conversation from body language alone and almost tried to suppress a stifled laugh at these fools. As Clarkingson came onto the view screen looking bright red and flushed from the turmoil of emotions. =/\= Ok ok if we upload all the information about Belakor and how this all works, can you just let us go? =/\= Teverine looked at Nico with a wink while his back was to the screen. “I don’t know what do you think counsellor?” (Reply Tchaikovsky) Looking back to the screen Teverine’s smile turned suddenly serious. “If what you upload is good enough I am willing to let you be on your way, it depends what you have to offer.” =/\= Sending all data now, you won’t be displeased, I have recordings of Belakor and schedules of other vessels which we was due to meet up with.=/\= Teverine looked over to Nico who nodded in confirmation as he checked the data that streamed down his screen. “Ok go now before I change my mind.” The boys did not even reply, their screen went blank and Teverine could see that the shuttle was making a hasty retreat out of the system. “Ok Nico send that data to the local Vedean constabulary. That wasn’t so hard now was it?” (Reply Tchaikovsky) (Posted by Peter Richards) (SS Barwon - Shuttle Cockpit - Counsellor, Ensign Nico Tchaikovsky - 12:30) After Teverine handled the two suspect pilots on the Crown Prince, Nico noticed a flood of information being relayed to the Barwon. The screen went blank and Nico watched as the shuttle made a hasty retreat out of the system. “Okay, Nico, send that data to the local Vedean constabulary. That wasn’t so hard now was it?” "Nicely played," Nico said. "We'll have to bypass the Vedean we've been dealing with, obviously, but that shouldn't be hard, especially now that the Spectre is out of immediate harm." As Nico made the connection to the surface below, he noticed the activity on the Spectre. He was only new to the Spectre but he hoped things were progressing well down there. He could sense Teverine's anxiety and knew the science officer desperately wanted to get back on board, probably back to his labs. Nico couldn't blame him. If a person finds a home, it's difficult to be apart from it. (Reply: None, Teverine iyw) (Posted by Ben) (USS Spectre - Deck 17, Deck's Forcefield controller - Ensign Carrick - 12:35) =/\=Durgil to Alpha and Beta team leaders.=/\= Paul cursed under his breath as he received a slight shock from the relays he had been working on. He tapped his badge, cooling his tounge as fast as possible. "Carrick here. What'cha need Durgil?" =/\=I need to know if you have anybody to spare. Delta team has found that the main impulse reactor is totally crisped, and they need the spare brought in. However, it's up on deck 5. The transporters have been disabled and wee need a team up there. Do you have anybody free to head over there and get the new engine to them?=/\= 'We are nearly done here I can send some one up to get started.' =/\=Since the damage is only to to cargo transporter or power relays to it, Beta's free people would be the best option, since they are closest and can return to the team ASAP. Unless you absolutely can't spare the people, then that would be the best option.=/\= 'We are okay but any one the Alpha team could send up to help would be much appreciated.' "Sir, I'm not sure we have anybody to spare. In an ideal world, we could all spare and help each other, but this is far from ideal. We've still got holes in the ship, and forcefields in our way that have controller issues. We can't get to the superstructure let alone repair it. =/\= Carrick, I can get to work on the control pathways. After all, the controls are routed here, so I'd have better power on that. Would that free up some men for a couple of minutes? =/\= Paul leaned on the bulkhead with his right arm in front of him, scratching the back of his neck with his left as he thought. "I guess that would free them up. But don't take them for too long. I'm gonna need them once these forcefields are done." =/\= Good. I'm working on that, so I suggest you get a move on your people. Durgil out.=/\= Paul turned away from the control relay, looking through the men who were behind him waiting for some work. He spotted out two that looked like they needed a break. "Flynn, Jones, You guys are needed up in Cargo Bay one. Get up there, help fix the transporter or whatever is needed to get that part to delta, then get right back here." The two men nodded and left the room. (Reply Any, None) (Posted by John) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Lt JG Christopher Adams - 12:43) The only thing that was on Lieutenant Christopher Adams’s mind was getting the Spectre back in orbit. If the two Vedean scientists who just came on board could help him do that, then he was going to have to work with them, in spite of his better judgment. “Okay,” the lieutenant relented. “What do you need from me?” “I will need you to power down your warp core to the absolute minimum, preferably completely powered down," said Toran. "It is important that no other forces are working against the field that we intend to create.... otherwise we may end up burying the ship in the mud." "What?" asked Adams in disbelief. "Right now our impulse reactors are cold and you want me to shut off the only thing that's giving us power?" "I am aware of that," responded the Vedean scientist bluntly. "But you can restart the core at will I'm sure and if need be, I'm also sure that your Captain will authorise a shut down.... given that the result will be the return of his ship into orbit." "We may be in orbit, but what's going to keep us there?" Adams gave a big sigh and closed his eyes for a few seconds. Calm and collected, he continued. "I suppose if we got the impulse reactors back up, that would provide the back-up power we needed while the warp engines are disengaged. That would also give us the propulsion we need in order to keep us in orbit. It may still take a few hours to get all these systems and the hull integrity up to snap, but it sounds doable." "Once we have deployed the equipment and run it up to speed, we can control the entire reaction from here via a remote link to the tug, I think you will find it rather interesting," continued Toran without much care for what Adams had to say. "Yea, well I will need to see it to believe it." Taking Adams's response and the signal to proceed, Toran nodded to his colleague who proceeded to leave the room. Satisfied that they were finally going to get started work, Toran took a seat at the main engineering console. "This is a very nice ship Lieutenant Adam's, I admire it's shiny displays, they are not like our Vedean displays at all. I don't suppose that I can get any Vedean torgan leaf crush here can I?" "Ummm, no," responded Adams, faking that there was an actual chance that any Vedean foods were programmed into the replicator. "I don't really think we have time to eat. I'm going to have to start looking at the engine shutdown sequence and then coordinate with my crew mates in order to get the impulse engines started. How long before you are going to be ready to deploy the equipment? It's still going to be a couple of hours before the ship will be ready even with using your technology." (reply Toran) "Okay. Proceed. I'm going to leave you here while I work over at this station. Just shout if you need me. Otherwise I will check in with you in an hour." (reply Toran) Adams nodded and turned his back on the Vedean to start processing the warp core shutdown sequence. He was going to have to wait until the impulse reactors were online before he could completely shut down the system, but at least he could get the process started. (Reply Toran, Any) (Posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Vedean Engineer, Palo Toran - 12:45) "..... How long before you are going to be ready to deploy the equipment? It's still going to be a couple of hours before the ship will be ready even with using your technology." Toran would have raised an eyebrow at that, but having none, all that happened was a raising of his hairless brow. "We can have the equipment ready within twenty minutes Lieutenant, if you are suggesting hours then any delay will be coming from your own side, not ours", said Toran, "either way, once Voran signals that the quipment has been deployed I will inform you that we are good to go", he added. "Okay. Proceed. I'm going to leave you here while I work over at this station. Just shout if you need me. Otherwise I will check in with you in an hour", said the Starfleet engineer. Toran simply nodded. "As you wish", he said, and then he began studying the readouts upon the nearby console, if only to relieve his boredom. For a brief moment he turned towards the other engineers working diligently at their posts, his gaze eventually falling once again upon Adams, a sigh manifesting within him as he did so. ~He doesn't think very highly of us~ he pondered. The he signalled Voran with just a hint of impatience in his voice. "Voran, what are you doing?", he asked. =/\=Doing as you asked Palo, we have the data we need, the device will be deployed shortly and there will be no need to inform you that it has been when it has", said Retalik, clearly sensing Toran's frustration at the pace the Starfleet officers did things. "I know that, don't be so damned impertinent Voran", said Palo abruptly, "the Federation crew won't be ready for a few hours yet anyway.... it seems that their technology is further behind than I first thought", he added, failing to notice the frown from a nearby Federation officer that just happened to be in earshot of his remark. =/\=You should not be so harsh Palo, in some ways their technology exceeds our own... it's just a matter of viewpoint=/\= Toran sighed and then settled back into his chair. "They have no Torgan leaf crush here, in that they are woefully inadequate", he said, "you'd think they would have programmed their synthesis devices to accomodate us, considering that we are providing them with such advanced assistance", he added. A brief silence ensued, the communication remaining quiet enough to pique Torans interest. "Are you still there Voran?", he asked. =/\=Yes, and I am deploying the equipment now..... please be patient Palo=/\= said Voran, clearly more confident when away from his overbearing colleague. "Thank you Voran", said Palo, the frustration still in evidence upon his face. "Enjoy you're Torgan leaf crush won't you.... goodbye!", he spat, before turning to one of the nearby Federation engineers and forcing a smile to hide his annoyance. The officer returned the smile, then he moved closer. "Torgan leaf?", he enquired, "it's in our database, I'll see about getting you some", he added. Palo frowned and then shot a glance towards Adams, who seemed oblivious to what had just occured. Mitch stared for a moment, “Beyond a doubt, medically, he will not be capable to perform his duties in engineering.” "Then if you are quite certain Doctor, then of course I must abide by that ruling," said the Captain thoughtfully, "although I am unsure as to how the chief is going to take this news, given the kind of officer that he is" “I understand that sir, these situations are always... delicate.” "Very good", said the Captain, "I trust then that you will see to the necessary arrangements for H'Chir's care until we can transfer him to a better medical facility" “Of course sir, he is in good hands.” The Captain nodded in response, and then duly dismissed the ACMO to return to the task of tending his patients. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Bobby) (Commercial Tug - Bridge - Vedean Engineer, Voran Retalik - 12:50) Lt Adams had seemed skeptical of the Vedeans claims regarding their lifting device, that was fine of course for zero point had been played with by the Federation before and had yielded little more than weapons based quanta in relations to Starfleet torpedoes. Consequently, it's use as anything benign simply seemed to escape him, and for that Retalik did not blame him. Toran on the other hand seemed to be gloating in the Vedean claim to having harnessed the power usefully. Either way, soon the Federation personnel would be seeing the truth for themselves. =/\=Voran, what's keeping you?"=/\= came the voice of Toran through the tugs comms. Retalik simply glanced to the pilot, his face searching. "We're ready, the device is awaiting transport as we speak", he said, at which Voran informed his impatient colleague that they were launching now. =/\=About time=/\=, said Toran, =/\=and make sure the device is positioned properly=/\= Retalik frowned and then shook visibly. "One day, I'm going to cast him adrift in the middle of the Argosa and see if he can propel himself back home with all that hot air within him", he muttered, the pilot just laughed and hit the button to deploy. In seconds, a large disk like object floated into view from beneath the tug and then drifted towards it's target. Once there, it simply dematerialized from sight only to rematerialize about ten feet beneath the mud that the Spectre rested upon. Retalik watched the indicators on his console change from red to green, then the level indicators began rising accordingly. "We have contra-rotation of the plates, the vacuum is charging", said Voran as he quickly shifted over to another console. By this time, the crew of the Spectre would have been registering a distortion beneath their keel, until the warp engines were shut down though, the zero point field would not be deployed for fear of rending matter within the ship itself due to antaganostic forces. Retalik raised Toran once again. "Toran, the device is in place, the zero point field is stable and ready to be deployed once the Spectre crew are ready", he stated, then he waited for the authorization to proceed. I won't be responsible if you end up plastered onto the ceiling or indeed, embedded into the floor", he added wryly. (Reply Adams, Any) Toran nodded and then began monitoring the console once again whilst shovelling more of the torgan leaf into his mouth. "As you can see we are showing the distortion pattern, this is normal", said the Vedean as he quickly switched the views on the console to show where the forces were appearing and precisely which point on the hull they were collecting in. It was essential of course that the field was evenly distributed, otherwise it could tilt their angle of assent once the effect began and send the ship anywhere else but up. As it was though everything seemed fine. "You should begin monitoring the ships mass Lieutenant Adams, I'm sure you will find the results.... intrigueing", said Toran. (Reply Adams) "That is only the begining, we are.... how do you say, idling", said Toran. "Once we are given the go ahead to fully deploy, the results you are seeing in regards ships mass will become more prominant, eventually we will have less mass than even the water that surrounds us", he added. "Then we will elevate!" Tactical had already indicated a field of some kind having established itself beneath the hull of the ship, at the moment it appeared to be focused, but quiescent.... it could only be the result of the Vedean's and their manipulation of the zero point energy field. The Captain wasted no time at all. "Bridge to Lieutenant Adams", he called, after opening a channel to Engineering. (Reply Adams) "We are registering an unusual field beneath the ship Lieutenant, can you confirm that this is a result of the Vedean device?", asked the Captain. He was just starting to write a script that would tie all the procedures into one command when he was interrupted by the voice of one of the Vedean scientists behind him. "Mr. Adams," came the voice of Toran. "We are ready to proceed when you are prepared to do so. Please ensure that you are generating the very minimum of interfering force within the ship...I won't be responsible if you end up plastered onto the ceiling or indeed, embedded into the floor." Adams swiveled around in his chair to look at him. "I'm working on that now, Mr. Toran. The warp core will be shutdown. The impulse reactors will be in idle mode. They will be on and providing emergency power to the ship and will be able to come online in order keep us in orbit." The monitor screen just above Adams head changed from a series of graphs showing power output to a representation of the ship. "As you can see," continued Toran. "We are showing the distortion pattern, this is normal. You should begin monitoring the ships mass Lieutenant Adams. I'm sure you will find the results... intrigueing." "That is very impressive," responded Adams. "I could see a lot of applications beyond lifting starships." "That is only the begining, we are.... how do you say, idling", said Toran. Without missing a beat, he turned away and took another healthy bite of the Vedean snack that he had sitting on one of the consoles. Adams knew that if Lieutenant H'Chir found out that someone was eating in Engineering his antennae would pop off his head with rage, but Adams let it slide since they were visiting dignitaries. He made a mental note to make sure all the crumbs were cleaned up before the Chief Engineer was released from Sickbay. "That's all well and good," explained Adams. "But right now I'm trying to get the warp core shut down as you requested. We also have a crew currently replacing one of our impulse reactor assemblies. When that is done we will be ready to..." Just then there was a beep on the comm system and the familiar voice of Captain T'Vhor came over the speakers placed in the dark reaches of Engineering. =/\=Bridge to Lieutenant Adams.=/\= Adams turned back around to his station and pressed a button on the panel. We need to make sure no outside forces have an affect on the device, so we are preparing to shutdown the warp core. We also have a crew working on replacing the Port Impulse Drive Assembly. We should be ready to make an attempt to get the Spectre back into orbit in just under two hours." =/\=Very well Lieutenant,=/\= responded the captain. =/\=Inform me once the necessary arrangements have been finalized and give the Vedeans any assistance they may require, bridge out=/\= The comm system closed and Adams sighed. "Two hours and we will be ready to go, Mr. Toran. Now I need to help my crew get us ready. Do you need any more from me right now?" Toran raised his eyebrowless brow once again and pursed his lips as though in thought, to be honest the tone of the Engineer had not sat right with him and he sensed a certain displeasure at his company, for a brief moment he had actually pondered inventing a need to occupy the man but then on second thoughts, he choose not to. "No", he mused, "no I don't think so Mr Adams, we can handle things without you for now", he added, placing a slight emphasis on the title 'Mr' as Adams had done when addressing him. "Okay. Thank you. Sit tight and we'll be ready very soon.", said Adams as he gathered up a few pieces of equipment and then headed out the door. Toran sighed again and then turned to one of the other Engineers nearby. A Vulcan. "Is he always so... how do you say, uptight?", said Toran. The Engineer raised an eyebrow quizzically in typical Vulcan fashion. "That would depend upon the width of the space in which he was occupying", said the Vulcan, "generally though, I have never seen the Lieutenant venturing into an enclosed space without first verifying that there is enough space for him to do so" Toran shook his head in confusion, clearly not completely used to Vulcan logic. "You're a Vulcan aren't you?", he asked glancing at his pointed ears. "I am sir", said the Engineer, "although I fail to see why that might make a difference to Lieutenant Adams ability to enter into confined spaces", he added with yet another raise of an eyebrow. "Forget it", said Toran, "just make sure the flux levels don't exceed the amount I told you earlier" Toran then relaxed back into his chair once again and resumed twiddling his thumbs. It looked like the Vedean’s would be able to get them into orbit which was great. It was'nt just what would happen next if there was a trail found by Tchaikovsky in the shuttle in orbit, what was really worrying him was why this was all happening. Why had the ship that just disabled them not just blown them out of orbit, rather the letting them sink to the bottom of the ocean. Then there was the ambush, trying to get to the Secondary Life Support, and also what had Audrey got to do with this? The last thing he had known was that she had died at the battle of Betazed at the end of the civil war and now she turns up here. He paused and took a slight breath and stopped his mind wandering. He pulled his thoughts back to the job at hand and concentrated on what the information was showing him. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Sickbay, Main Ward - CEO, Lieutenant H'Chir - 13:00) The Andorian engineer was somewhere else right now, not physically of course, but mentally. Ever since the blow he had taken to the head when the ship had fallen out of orbit, his balance had been uncoordinated and lacking a certain something, he had also become far more bad tempered than he normally was. To some of course that was all part and parcel of the CEO's temperament for he was hardly known as someone that could be classed as completely 'on the level' so to speak. At this precise moment in time though, he had found himself drifting amongst the clouds of his native Andoria holding a ships ODN recoupler, his own life experience had told him that unless he was dead, none of this was at all possible, the experience however felt so real. For a moment, H'Chir contemplated the significance of the tool in his hand, having already ascertained that he was dreaming of course. An ODN recoupler was a tool to connect the conduits of a ships optical data network together, thus ensuring a constant flow of information to the nodes that required it. It was an essential piece of engineering equipment for without it, the end of line terminals could not work! Why would he be holding one whilst floating amidst the clouds of Andoria then? In an instance though, his body was yanked backwards with an incredible force. The lurch had been sudden and inexplicable... the ODN recoupler fell from his hand, then a voice came booming towards him. “Mister H’Chir, it’s Doctor Huval. Can you hear me?”, it said. H'Chir scrunched up his eyes as he opened them, a shadowy, etherial vision looming over him as he attempted to focus under the bright light. "Are you.... Uzaveh?", he asked of the shimmering vision. “You took a nasty blow to the head sir, you just got out of surgery”, came the reply. "Surgery!... In flarg'slak!!!", cried the Andorian as he reached up to rub at his eyes, then he tried to sit up. “You’re not strong enough to stand yet”, said the still vague entity before him as it began holding him down upon the table he lay upon. "Get your hands off of me!!!", cried H'Chir, "I have a ship to attend to, we are under water you know", he hollered, as though whoever it was before him did not know that! “I believe that Mister Adams is taking care of that right now. Look what I need you to do is sit up and follow this light with your eyes”, said the voice, whilst H'Chir tried to focus, seemingly in vain upon the source of the voice and a swinging light that had suddently appeared before him. "Lights! Lights!.... screw your damned lights, do you know who I am?", enquired the CEO beligerantly, "I'm the chief engineer of this boat, and if you don't let me fix it.... believe me the word BOAT will be more apt than the simile it implies!", he added as he again attempted to sit upright upon the bed. “No, now listen, it is important that you stay here in Sickbay. You’re probably very tired.” H'Chir glared at the man before him, his antennae attempting to 'feel' more information about him, then he slumped back onto the table, helped no doubt by the steady pressure upon his shoulders from the medic. "If you are not Uzaveh... then who the hell are you!", he cried. (Reply Huval) The CEO huffed loudly, then he closed his eyes. "Where is the Captain?", he enquired, just slightly more malleable now. (Reply Huval) The figure then approached again with what appeared to be an ODN recoupler in his hand, H'Chir immediately snached at it, the medic drew it back and away in response. "Give it to me, it's mine!", hollered the engineer, incorrectly identifying the hypospray now as the tool he had been holding when he'd been floating high in the clouds! “This is something to help you sleep”, said the Doctor. H'Chir huffed again and then exhaled heavily. "If you think I need to sleep, then why the hell did you wake me up?", asked H'Chir angrilly. “I woke you up just now, because of the amount of blood you lost, I needed to neutralize the anesthetic we gave you from the surgery. This is a sedative”, said the Doctor as he held the hypospray firmly against the Andorian's upper arm and then released it's contents into him. H'Chir sighed and then relaxed almost instantly, his final words completely incomprehensible. "Can I have strawberry topping on that please", he muttered, and then he was back amongst the clouds again.... His mind wandered back to the communication with the ship, and the idea that he was somehow the new chief counsellor on his first assignment. "Is there something I should know about the previous counsellor, Tev? I mean, it's not like I'm about to embark upon a cursed ship or anything, right? Not that I'm ... err, not that I'm THAT superstitious, of course." “I can’t honestly answer that question, my first few weeks on the ship was so full of duties I never got to meet the counsellor. I don’t think you are replacing anyone I think you are joining the rest of the Spectre team. As to the cursed ship idea you might have a point there, since being assigned my luck has not been the best either.” They both laughed. "Thanks." “No Problems, now let’s see if Hightower has the data required to trace our attackers.” "You're the expert, Tev," Nico said. "I'm happy to assist but you will have to tell me what to do." (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Primary Computer Core – Lt, Norman Bates - 13:13) Let's face it, Norman was a somewhat 'odd' person at the best of times... actually he was an odd person at the worst of times too which basically made him a genuine, bona fide all round odd person for sure. It didn't help that his parents had seen fit to name their first child Norman when that childs surname was Bates, to put it bluntly it was asking for trouble to say the very least, and Norman had paid dearly for that mistake. Always the butt of jokes throughout his life, the pattern had not changed the entire time he had spent as a Starfleet officer, indeed it had invariably followed the same inane line that in some way referenced the twentieth century fictional character that Hitchcock had devised when he had wrote the story 'Psycho'. "How's you're mother these days Norman?", they would ask. Norman would simply huff and try his best to ignore the stupid remarks whilst concentrating upon his job.... which he was actually very good at despite the jibes. Maybe that was something to do with the fact that he did not have that many friends, and that he spent most of his time beavering away at whatever project was first and foremost in his mind at the time. Last week it had been theoretical analysis of plasma friction throughout it's path to the intermix flow valves, the week before it was looking into ways in which computational analysis of the raw bio-neural component of the gel packs, could be optimized further than what was already achievable. To be honest, Norman was probably at his best only when working, for integration with anyone in an environment that did not signify work was problematic at the very least, impossible at worst. There was one 'interpersonal' skill though that Lieutenant Bates positively excelled in, and it was that very skill that might turn out to be the entire crew of the USS Spectre's saving grace. Only time would answer that one though. From his niche in the corner of the main computer deck, Bates had just espied something a little odd, a crewman that did not seem to fit in, whilst all around her people seemed oblivious to the niggling little doubt about her that was now festering like a boil within Norman's brain. Even though he was somewhat detached from the rest of the crew at the best of times, Norman possessed an almost obsessive ability to remember faces... and this crewman, Bruce was someone he had never before met whilst serving on board the Spectre! To most of the crew that would not have been a problem in the slightest, there were after all nearly two hundred crew on the Spectre, and to remember every face of every crewman that served upon it would be damned near impossible.... unless you were Norman of course. Norman put down the PADD which he had been inputting calculations upon, then he took a seat at one of the consoles, a nearby one from which he could steal the occasional, furtive glance at Bruce's actions as she worked at the computer core interface. Quickly, he had noted that some of her procedural manipulations of the core interface itself were not tallying completely with normal protocol, that seemed odd in itself and let's face it once again, Norman was very good at recognizing odd. For the moment though Bruce had not really strayed too far from protocol so he maintained his distance and continued to observe her discretely as best he could. “Crewman did you hear my conversation with the chief?”, asked Ensign Francis as she stepped towards Bruce from the right. "Yes sir I did", said Bruce standing quickly from her own console now, "I will head up to deck five right now", she added as she turned about and then gathered up some equipment nearby before heading out. Ensign Francis then returned to the task that had held her before the call from Chief Biign. Norman raised an eyebrow almost Vulcan like at Bruce's actions. She had seemed somewhat perturbed at Francis' remark and she had also seemed in a hurry to head out! Granted she had been told to go right away but still, something didn't seem quite right there. Bates scratched his head and then picked up his PADD, then he stood from the console giving a quick nod to Ensign Francis before heading out and into the corridor to the sight of Ensign Bruce, disappearing around a corner now towards turbolift three. ~Do I follow or wait... follow or wait?~ Thought Norman. The thought meandered for only a second in his brain, there was no need to follow immediately, he knew where she was going already so he awaited the sound of the turbolift doors opening and then closing again to signify her departure from this deck, then he followed on. She then moved over to the transporter pad and carefully removed the pad. Behind her she heard the doors to the storage bay open. She turned to see a crewman enter through the doors. She was pretty with her blond hair tied up out of the way. “Are you the crewman sent by Ensign Frances ?” The woman turned and looked at Wai. “Yes Chief. The unfamiliar crewman however had by now headed onto deck five, stopping momentarilly outside Holodeck One and then marched off down the corridor seemingly unawares of her little stalker... or at least that was how it seemed to Norman! There had been a few occasions when she had stopped and glanced in his direction en route, Bates had simply turned to the wall in response, his fingers tentatively examining a supposed flaw upon the surface of it, his brow furrowing in mock concern. The crewman moved on and Norman resumed his covert surveillance until she had entered the turbolift ahead. "Damn you", he muttered under his breath, then he quickly advanced towards it and placed an ear against the now closed doors in an attempt to 'hear' whether the lift had gone up, sideways or down. His brow furrowed again in response and he disengaged his aural apendage from the door to the accompaniment of a audible sigh. ~Now what?~ Beforehand, Norman had known the general direction she had been headed due to it having been clearly given when Chief Biijn had ordered her to depart, now though she could be anywhere. As it was though she was closer than Norman could ever have expected! The turbolift doors had suddenly opened again and he was now face to stupid face with the woman in question. “Sir, can I help you?”, she asked, her smile hiding her true intent perhaps. Her mention of being stationed at the ventral sensor array was plausible, but by no means definitive, Bates felt that even so he would still have caught sight of her at some time or another, and that her image would have been burned indelibly into his photographic memory as indeed it should have considering the fact that she was not unnatractive. The woman nodded again and then gave a shy smile. “Are you okay sir. Do you need a hand to get to sickbay?”, she asked, wondering if he had hurt himself. "No... no I'm quite fine", said Bates, pausing then as though to reconsider that answer. He rubbed slowly at his hand, it did'nt hurt at all but in an instance he had decided that it suddenly did and that it would indeed need medical intervention. In his boredom at having to wait for the Starfleet engineers to finalize their preparations, he had dozed off and was now swimming dreamily through an azure sea with a Dolomorph, a rather impressive sea mammal which bore the capability of changing into other sea animals native to Vedea IV's ocean surface. To a Vedean, an encounter with a Dolomorph was a rare and exquisite experience indeed, and one said to bring great luck and fortune if one could experience a total of five transformations whilst in their company. Toran had just witnessed four, albeit not entirely real due to the fact that he was dwelling now within the Vedean equivilent of Morpheus..... nevertheless, it was still considered lucky even to dream of them! Suddenly, a voice boomed through the water, a familiar, though slightly irritating voice. "Toran? We are ready", it cried. Toran shook himself away, his eyes momentarilly opening and then closing again as he attempted to re-enter the dream. The face came again. "What!", cried Toran in irritation, clearly not separating the reality from the dream yet. "Yes. The warp engines are powered down and the impulse engines are in idle mode. They won't interfere with the zero point device", said the voice. "Zero point?", queried Toran rubbing at his eyes, then he sat upright. "Oh... yes, very good", he added slapping both palms upon the desk before him as though attempting to feign complete awareness when in actual fact, he wasn't quite there! "Please Lieutenant Adams, when you are ready... I am ready", said Toran as he quickly began reading off the relevant indicators upon the console to verify readiness of the Vedean Zero point device. "Right. Hold on", said Adams as he quickly hailed the Captain on the bridge for authorization to continue. Make sure any breaches or anti-gravity effects are logged and taken care of.' "Yes sir." Aldlar moved to a place in engineering farther away from the guests. It was their device, and Aldlar was sure they wouldn't want to hear any negative reports about it. Aldlar then began to contact the standard repair teams and ready them. (Reply, Any) (Posted by: John) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Vedean Engineers, Palo Toran and Voran Retalik - 14:16) Toran interlocked his fingers, and then flexed them back against themselves as he listened to the conversation between the Captain and his Engineer. By this time, others had arrived to take up their station in readiness, and the Captain himself had alerted the crew of their intent to begin via a shipwide announcement. Toran wasted no time at all and signalled his compatriot on the Vedean tug. "Voran, I believe we are ready to begin", he said after opening a channel via his own communication device. =/\=The zero point device is ready Palo, the semiconductors are rotating at a fixed frequency and the field has stabilized=/\= Toran turned briefly to Adams who was by now in conversation with one of his subordinates, an Ensign Durgil who had been ordered to monitor for damage to the ship during it's assent. The Vedean could see though that Lieutenant Adams was not entirely convinced that the technology would achieve what they said it would, he sighed accordingly. ~Well, they will see soon enough~ he mused within the secrecy of his own thoughts. Adams then turned his attention to him. "Toran, we are all ready. You may activate the zero point device", he said sharply. Toran then activated the device remotely from the telemetric linkup to the tug via the console before him as Adams watched his own displays accordingly. Within a few seconds, the monitors were showing that the field was increasing, there was a slight feeling of weightessness in Toran's body as it began and the Vedean knew the others were feeling it to. He inserted his feet into the maglock boots that had been delivered to him earlier as a precautionary measure, then he increased the field further. Immediately, the mass of the ship, shown as a percentage figure upon his screen reduced to ninety percent of total, the ship lurched ever so slightly, thus signifying that it was moving in the silt beneath her keel, then it tilted slightly to the accompaniment of something running upwards along the exterior hull plates. This was probably just sediment and bubbles as the ship moved, then the depth guage on the monitor began showing slowly decreasing figures as the ship creaked and groaned just slightly as it pulled out of the mud beneath it. They were on their way! "We have vertical assent!", exclaimed Toran just as the mass indicator reduced suddenly to seventy percent of total. The Vedean beamed happily at the sight and then smugly announced this to the doubting Adams. "Did I not say that we could do this Mr Adams?", he asked, "did I not say that we had found a way to utilize the zero point energy beyond that of a weapon" (Reply Adams) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Lt JG Christopher Adams - 14:17) Lieutenant Christopher Adams concentrated on the monitors as the whole ship started to shake. Many of the proximity sensors on the engineering controls beeped loudly since there was outside forces being exerted to the ship. "We have vertical assent!" exclaimed Toran, the Vedean scientist who was helping the crew get the Spectre back into orbit. "Did I not say that we could do this Mr. Adams? Did I not say that we had found a way to utilize the zero point energy beyond that of a weapon." Adams turned his attention back to his guest. "I had no doubt that you had harnessed the energy from the zero point device. I have doubt that you can safely put the Spectre back into orbit without immediately dropping her back into your ocean. Now, if you don't mind, I need to make sure the hull doesn't start to pull apart as the pressure from the water starts to decrease the closer we get to the surface." (reply Toran iyw) The engineer turned back to his instruments, but it appeared that everything was fine. There were a few hull breaches, but force fields were coming up in order to keep the ship sealed. With each breach, Adams made a note on the repair backlog for once they were in orbit. (reply Toran, any) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Vedean Engineer, Palo Toran - 14:18) "Drop it back into the sea!", exclaimed Toran in disgust, "may I remind you Lieutenant Adams that Vedean engineering concentrates on getting the job done without the need for having to do it again", he added with a shake of his head before turning back to his own monitor to oversee the readings coming from the zero point device. Then he turned back to Adams who had by now turned away also. "May I ask if you have any understanding of zero point energy beyond quantum torpedo usage Mr Adams", asked the Vedean. (Reply Adams) "Then you surely know that the uncontrolled, field continues upwards ad infinitum", said Toran, "I have calibrated the device to halt it's effects just beyond optimal orbital insertion, by then your own impulse engines will provide the thrust to maintain that orbit thus preventing the ship from falling back into the ocean", said Toran, pausing momentarilly now before adding; "Therefore, if we fall back into the sea, it will be your fault and not mine" (Reply Adams) It seemed a pointless argument, clearly neither the Vedean, nor the Starfleet engineer felt any like for their counterpart, it was hardly surprising anyway and although Toran would never have admitted it, he himself was almost always the main antagonist! Perhaps they might be more ameniable to one another outside of a work environment, but then again... perhaps not. The ship continued on in it's assent as the Vedean manipulated the field from his console, silent now. As for Adams, he was busy once again monitoring the small hull breaches that had appeared due to the stresses of water pressure upon the ship. (Reply Adams, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 14:18) Suddenly, the ship lurched slightly to the accompaniment of a mass of bubbles and silt rising upwards across the viewscreen, clearly the ship was in motion! The Captain turned to the First Officer beside him, his lips pursed in contemplation. "I would say that the zero point device is showing promise", he said. (Reply Williams IYW) T'Vhor then addressed all stations on the bridge, beginning with Science One. "Lieutenant Hightower, are the indicators still within tolerance regarding hull stress?", he asked. Tabitha watched as the stress levels rose and fell all within norms. She sighed. A few minutes later the captain asked about the shuttle’s mission. "Ensign, do we have any more information on the ship that attacked us in orbit via the modified linkup to the shuttle," he asked. “With the activation of the zero point energy we have lost that connection with the shuttle, but as soon as we reach orbit we will have greatly improved sensor capitalizes. "May I ask if you have any understanding of zero point energy beyond quantum torpedo usage Mr Adams?" asked the Vedean. "As you well know, we have not," explained the engineer. "We have many scientists working on trying to harness the energy, but in the end it's always easier to destroy then create." "Then you surely know that the uncontrolled, field continues upwards ad infinitum," responded Toran. "I have calibrated the device to halt it's effects just beyond optimal orbital insertion, by then your own impulse engines will provide the thrust to maintain that orbit thus preventing the ship from falling back into the ocean...Therefore, if we fall back into the sea, it will be your fault and not mine." "That's fine by me," stated Adams. "I have every confidence in my engineering crew. When the time comes, those impulse engines will fire up and we will be in orbit." Adams whipped his chair back around to continue to monitor their ascent. It appeared that everything was fine. Tev had located traces of radiation from the vessel responsible for downing the Spectre, but until the big ship had risen from the depths of the Vedean oceans, all they could realistically do, was wait. Since the Spectre had initiated the Vedean Zero-Point energy experiment, contact had been severed between the shuttle and the ship. It was a surprise to hear the voice. (Reply: Teverine, T'Vhor) (Posted by Ben) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 14:25) The response from the shuttle in orbit was delayed slightly by the effects of the Vedean equipment interfering with the comms, as it also was with various other telemetry based links throughout the ship. Either way, the signal from the Barwon was coming through, but the data link had now failed! =/\=Ensign Tchaikovsky here, we can see you're undergoing some kind of transition down there. (Reply Tolqu) (Posted by Ben) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 14:30) External to the Spectre, the water was now rushing downwards at a rate of thirty two feet per second, indicative of an equivilent upwards motion of the ship itself. Thus far, there had been no gravity effects upon the crew but of course, that wasn't to say that it wouldn't happen. For the moment though, the Captain chose to hope that it would not. "Helm, be sure to maintain horizontal aspect all the way up", said the Captain as he watched the indicators varying upon his armrest console. Tactical seemed to be busy at her console beyond, no doubt diligent in her monitoring for anything that might 'get in the way' on the way to the surface, the Captain however still chose to request an update. "How are we doing Lieutenant?", he asked. (Reply Smith) "Distance to the surface?", he enquired. (Reply Smith) The ships rate of ascent was nothing short of miraculous given their current environment and the fact that they were ascending completely unpowered and on a theoretically impossible cushion of 'something'... The Captain then hailed engineering for a status update once again, there was now less than four minutes before the ship surfaced like some leviathan from the deep, and the last thing they needed now was for a malfunction of anything either ship borne, or Vedean borne. "Bridge to engineering", said the Captain. (Reply Adams) "We are due to break surface in three minutes and forty two seconds Lieutenant, it would seem that once we do we will continue on up into the air", said the Captain, "I need to know now if you envisage any problems with our current rate of ascent either in a fluid environment, or an air environment?" (Reply Adams) "Understood, please keep me informed", said the Captain as he returned his attention again to the viewscreen and the unusual streaks of greenish tinged water that swept past in a vertical pattern. (Reply Smith, Adams, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 14:35) Immediately the ship hit the surface, it slowed just slightly as the surface tension of the sea grabbed at the hull so as to impart friction upon it, then it released it's sucking grip and the ship began elevating once again at an exponentially increasing rate, a factor which worried the Captain just a little. If their rate of climb continued as is and un-controlled, then what ramifications would that entail exactly. No doubt engineering would tell him if indeed it became a problem, for now though, the entire bridge crew would have to be content to enjoy their impromptu elevator ride, whilst those charged with maintaining aspect.... maintained aspect! But what was happening to their power distribution right now? the Captain turned his attention to the Ops officer in order to find out. "Mr Santiago, is there anything that I need to know about our power levels right now?", he asked. (Reply Santiago) "Maintain a close watch on those levels, if they elevate above or below the desired range I want to know immediately", said the Captain.
