I'd much rather have horribly inaccurate rumors, than an actual invasion or fight. A fight means work, and it means I have to trust those chuckle heads in there to help me fix this ship when the Officer's inevitably break it." Douwsy grinned. "But that's the whole point. if they did not have use fixing everything that they broke then the ship would fall around their ears." "Well, they've got to be good for something, and if they want the responsibility they can have it, I'd much rather spend the rest of my working career in a jefferies tube." Douswy nodded. "I know what you mean. I feel that same about sickbay." She paused for a moment. "Look when you've finished your shift want to go for a drink." (reply Revan) NRPG: if not I'll re-post RPG: Douwsy nodded. "Okay. give me a comm when your shift is over." She looked down at her PADD. "I should get throught most of this by then." (reply Revan) (Reply Revan, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Corridor - Corporal Houseman - 18:00) Houseman’s feet pounded down the corridor. He kept pace with the marine in front of him as the corridor passed under his feet. “I hope every one is enjoying there little run.” Houseman glanced over at the Sergeant who was keeping pace. “Yes Sergeant I’m having a wonderful time.” He adjusted his straps of his back pack he was carrying. ~What’s his problem just coz he can’t take a joke~ “Move it people we have a long way to go.” ~Obviously not then~ They came to a jefferies tube hatch which the Sergeant opened. “We’re going for a little climb. Right then lets go to deck 16.” ~Not too bad only three decks down~ “Via deck 4.” Houseman groaned to himself as he began to climb. (reply Any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Security Station Foxtrot – Security officer Smith - 18:03) Jo looked at the console in front of her. She had been trawling through the data that had been sent to her. She looked at the multiple display that were covering her screen. She looked at small box in one corner of the console. ~Hmm okay so the dilithium depot sends six cargo runs to the refinery a day~ She then looked at another. ~They then send four shuttles from the refinery to the orbital station for out of system transport~ She flicked between the data. ~So each shuttle takes that much to the refinery and that much is lost in the refinery process~ She brought up another screen and frowned at the data. ~But that means that the shuttles boosting up to orbit are lighter than specified~ She flicked through the data again to make sure that she was not wrong. ~So where is the remaining tonnes~ She activated the comm system. "Lieutenant Smith to Lieutenant Donaldson." (reply Donaldson) "I've been going over the data you sent me. I have found a discrepancy in the refinery haulage. It is only a small amount but is too regular to be clerical error. I'm sending the data back to you." Jo entered a few commands and sent a compressed version of the data that she had collected. (reply Donaldson) (reply Donaldson, any) (posted by Robbie) (Ushar Prime – RD Medical Facility – TAC/ASC Charles “Chuck” Donaldson - 18:12) Chuck had remained silent while the Captain, Rogers, and even Goldsteen completely ignored him and went about ‘solving the crime’. It reminded him a little of a retro earth television show called called ‘Scooby-Doo’. He felt his chin for peach fuzz and was pleasantly met by a clean shave. =/\=Lieutenant Smith to Lieutenant Donaldson. =/\= Chuck’s commbadge chirped ~Hey, I’m not left out!!~ “Donaldson here. Go ahead, Lieutenant.” Said Chuck tapping the badge. =/\=I've been going over the data you sent me. I have found a discrepancy in the refinery haulage. It is only a small amount but is too regular to be clerical error. I'm sending the data back to you.=/\= Chuck’s tricorder began beeping and he removed it from his uniform jacket and flipped it open. ~She’s right it’s too regular.~ “Thank you, Lieutenant. Keep looking at the data for me. Donaldson out.” Said Chuck closing the channel. (reply Smith IYW) He went back to studying the tricorder. The information Smith had found was important but it wasn’t just the missing Dilithium. The gambler in Chuck noticed it right away but the average Starfleet Officer probably wouldn’t notice. ~Betting the spread. The discrepancies were divided across multiple loads on multiple vessels. It’s not just a single ship Captain or one shipping company.~ With a few button presses Chuck brought up the government freighter schedule off of Ushari. In the next few hours only three freighters would be leaving. Whoever was taking the Dilithium was making ‘withdrawals’ regularly … one of those few vessels might provide a clue or two. Chuck wanted to check it out but the Captain had ordered everyone to keep to the buddy system. Rogers and Goldsteen had taken off and the Captain was busy with clerical duties coordinating Rogers/Goldsteen, Kreung/Yates, the Engineers at the Weather control, and the Spectre. Without any more ado Chuck tapped his commbadge. NRPG: drum roll please … RPG: “Donaldson to Counselor Kreung” he ordered. (reply Jynea) “If you’re up for a scavenger hunt meet me at the Southern Swell Freighter Exchange … and make sure Yates tags along, we don’t need yet another Officer wondering off alone.” (reply Smith, Kreung, Yates, T’Vhor?, any) (posted by Anton) (USS Spectre – Jeffrey Tubes - Corporal Jose Rameriz - 18:13) Rameriz greeted Houseman with a pair of boots to the chest. He had his hands on the bottom rung of the ladder above and was more than happy to swing on it to assist Houseman back down to the deck from which he'd just climbed up. The rest of the climbing marines seemed equally happy to let the two take care of themselves, especially when Houseman got a paw on Rameriz's left boot and dragged the Spaniard down with him. They both landed with thumps on the deck and before the Sergeant at the tail could yell at them, Houseman had grabbed Rameriz and flipped onto him for the attack. The Sergeant bellowed something about get up and catch up before continuing up the ladder. Rameriz ignored him as he concentrated on getting the two hundred pound marine off him. Houseman ignored him as he concentrated on strangling the marine who had ambushed him. Rameriz managed to wiggle out from the hold and counter-attacked Houseman. The two went rolling and flailing down the horizontal tube until they wacked into the wall. "Hey Mans – I found out you's were the one who made the holo-Rameriz!" (Reply Houseman) Rameriz was trying to strangle Houseman, but it was proving difficult since Houseman was counter strangling him and had the longer reach. "An' you's spread it across the fleet man!" (Reply Houseman) Rameriz grinned, letting go of Houseman. "Best practical joke EVER!" (Reply Houseman) Rameriz got tossed halfway down the tube, "I cans fly!" he called as he tucked, somersaulted into the fall and landed on his feet by the ladder. "Hey slows poke, you coming or not??" He scrambled up the ladder like a squirrel, planning on staying out of reach of the much taller marine. "Last one buys da beer!" (Reply Houseman/any marine) (Posted by Lorna) (Ushari Prime - City Outskirts, "Old Town" Amusement Park - Ensign Jynea Kreung - 18:14) Jynea wasn't quite sure how a representation of the original mining settlement of the planet, pre-warp, was considered an "amusement" park. She'd been expecting ferris wheels and cotton candy. But still, it was certainly educational following their tour guide, watching Nathaniel duck every time they left a cross section. They'd offered him a helmet to protect his head but he seemed to think adding another inch to his height wasn't the brightest idea. So far, he'd yet to take a lump. Jynea wondered what he'd do if they were attacked. She supposed security teams dealt with training in all sorts of situations from no gravity to underwater to compact quarters, but still, it couldn't be .. well, amusing. Except to the viewer, and she was pretty sure Ensign Yates would be suitably disgruntled if she was giggling while he was trying to save her life. =/\= Donaldson to Counsellor Kreung" =/\= Chuck's voice interrupted her thoughts and the tour guide's words. She waved an apology as she'd seen the kids do to one another, hoped it wasn't offensive slang to an adult and dropped back so they wouldn't further interrupt the tour. The woman didn't seem offended, nor did any of the others in the group, so she supposed she'd chosen the right gesture. "Jynea here, Charles." She replied. She supposed she shouldn't tease him with Yates listening eagerly, but somethings a woman just couldn't resist. =/\= If you're up for a scavenger hunt meet me at the Southern Swell Freighter Exchange . And make sure Yates tags along, we don't need yet another Officer wondering off alone. =/\= She raised an eyebrow to Yates. She wasn't quite sure what Chuck was up to now, but it seemed more interesting than learning about what types of picks were used with what types of rocks. An engineer or scientist or something was more suited to *this* educational experience than she was. "We'll meet you there." She told him before signing off. "Sounds like Rogers has gotten himself in trouble for having fun without a fellow officer along to join in." Jynea said to Nathaniel. (Reply Yates) Jynea smiled, genuinely amused before hitting her communicator "Two for site to site transport please. From current location to the 'Southern Swell Freighter Exchange' please." Wherever the heck THAT was. (Reply Spectre) Jynea was about to make a sarcastic comment to Nathaniel about what Chuck was getting them into when the transporter beam caught them up in its stream. (Reply Donaldson, Yates, Spectre, Any) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Spectre - Chief OPS Office - Chief OPS - Lt. Chenoll - 18:15) Her transfer from Engineering to Operations was completely unexpected. The Bolian Engineer had been Assistant CEO for most of her career on most of her ships, and following a short stint as Acting Chief Engineer, she returned to the ACEO position. She almost expected to be a junior engineer for the rest of her career, until she was sent to head up the Operations department. The Bolian female watched as Lt. La Flaga entered her office. "Welcome, Lieutenant. I'm the new Chief of Ops," she explained, rising to greet the officer. (reply La Flaga) The Bolian indicated him to take a seat and sat back down. "Lt. Capps recently left the Spectre, so I was transfered over to Chief of Operations. So, you're coming from... Intelligence?" the pleasant blue-skinned Bolian asked, raising an eyebrow. (reply La Flaga) "This should be a relatively low-stress position compared to SFI," she mused, "Are you already trained in the station?" (reply La Flaga) "Well, good then. We'll settle the shifts and such later, but until then, welcome to Operations, I suppose," the woman said with a smile. (reply La Flaga, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Chief OPS Office - Chief OPS - Lt. George La Flaga – 18:15) George tried not to stare. Something about the dark blue line down the middle of their faces made him uncomfortable around Bollians. Someone out there knew he was a ladies man and this was his punishment. Damn Karma!! "Welcome, Lieutenant. I'm the new Chief of Ops," she explained, rising to greet the officer. “Given recent events I’m one of your ‘underlings’.” George tried to explain without explaining … an SFI habit. The Bolian indicated him to take a seat and she sat back down. "Lt. Capps recently left the Spectre, so I was transfered over to Chief of Operations. So, you're coming from... Intelligence?" blue, blue, blue … she was really blue … and something about her raised eyebrow inspired more dread in George than the blue-ness of the Chief Engineer. “Yes, I think my transfer to OPS is a kind of burn notice but who knows what the heads upstairs have in store for me.” George said taking the offered seat and trying hard not to look nervous. "This should be a relatively low-stress position compared to SFI," she mused, ~lower stress?? I had a desk job shuffling reports here on a guppy of a ship … now I’m going to have WORK to do.~ "Are you already trained in the station?" came the great blue one’s voice piercing George’s mental objections. “Yes, I’m cross-trained in seven interdepartmental systems … OPS was the obvious choice after my ‘retirement’ from SFI.” Responded George. "Well, good then. We'll settle the shifts and such later, but until then, welcome to Operations, I suppose," the woman said with a smile. “Thank you, Sir. If you don’t mind I’ll excuse myself from duty today … this change has been anything but subtle.” (reply Chenoll assuming affirmative) (posted by Anton) (Ushar Prime – RD Medical Facility – TAC/ASC Charles “Chuck” Donaldson - 18:15) =/\=Jynea here, Charles.=/\= came Jynea’s response to Chuck’s call. ~I should never have told her I didn’t like ‘Charles’.~ “If you’re up for a scavenger hunt meet me at the Southern Swell Freighter Exchange … and make sure Yates tags along, we don’t need yet another Officer wondering off alone.” =/\=We'll meet you there.=/\= responded Jynea signing off the channel. Chuck tapped his commbadge again. “Donaldson to transporter room 2 … I need a beam-out from my present location to the Southern Swell Freighter Exchange.” (reply Spectre) Chuck kept an eye on the information feed coming across the screen of his tricorder as he was engulfed by the transporter beam. (Reply Spectre, Any) (Posted by Anton) (USS Spectre – Jeffrey Tubes - Corporal Houseman - 18:15) Houseman’s years of training kicked in as he was jumped by Rameriz. With not a lot of space in the jeffrey’s tube the fight turned ugly. No precise punches and kicks just using which ever part of his body was closest to the attacker. The two went rolling and flailing down the horizontal tube until they wacked into the wall. "Hey Mans – I found out you's were the one who made the holo-Rameriz!" Houseman tried to shift his weight so that he could pin Rameriz to the wall. “Don’t know what you are complaining about you ain’t seen my Chuck Angels. Any way like you give a damn.” Rameriz was trying to strangle Houseman, but it was proving difficult since Houseman was counter strangling him and had the longer reach. "An' you's spread it across the fleet man!" Houseman could feel himself go light headed due to the lack of oxygen. “Ow no what have I done. I’ve just handed the female population of the fleet to two Rameriz. Better lock up your wives and daughters.” Rameriz grinned, letting go of Houseman. "Best practical joke EVER!" “You and your bloody sex drive you are as bad as Rabbits.” Houseman stepped close grabbed the Marine and threw him down the tube. Rameriz got tossed halfway down the tube, "I cans fly!" he called as he tucked, somersaulted into the fall and landed on his feet by the ladder. "Hey slows poke, you coming or not??" He scrambled up the ladder like a squirrel, planning on staying out of reach of the much taller marine. Terran Aloe Vera!~ She picked up the humble plant. "This one is perfect." T'Pia said to a nearby Vulcan Ensign. "Quite adequate." He said raising an eyebrow. If you don’t mind I’ll excuse myself from duty today … this change has been anything but subtle," The lieutenant said, excusing himself. "Oh, I suppose that's alright," The Bolian said. "Tomorrow at 0800 should be a fine time to report to the bridge," she recommended. (reply La Flaga) "Have a nice night, Lieutenant," she said, watching him go. Donaldson's coordinates had put them slap bang in the middle of one of the Ushari freight yards, obviously though he had chosen this place for a good reason and his following comments after their initial greetings and such, clarified that somewhat. Donaldson had quickly mentioned discrepancies regarding the Dilithium shipments, he had then gone on to outline how they would be talking to the merchants that worked here whilst hopefully, Ensign Kreung might be able to 'read' a few psychological indicators if they were indeed being displayed by anyone they chatted with. "Yates, keep your eyes open too. Especially watch for Cardassians", said Donaldson, as they all began moving off towards the docking areas. "Cardassians", said Yates with a huff, "I'm thinking that I could do with a new wall mural in my quarters.... scales might suit, whaddya think Jynea?", he added with a laugh. "I would think.. Either our Ushari friends have lost more of their allegiance to the Federation than we thought.. or they're being used by Cardassia." She looked up at Chuck and Nate in turn. "So Douwsy left you here on your own then?" ~Really must have a word with her about that~ (reply Heyes) He nodded. "Okay. I'm back for the foreseeable future. Perhaps the sensors were acting up again, it wouldn't be the first time after all, the reality of the situation however was that it was an unlikely probability. Every single system had been passed as spaceworthy upon their departure from McKinley and the reality was that this WAS a legitimate contact. So, where the hell had it gone? Yelena ran the test for the fourth time, the reports were the same, an object of some sort on an intercept, veering one ninety, mark two zero four and then correcting to Ushar orbit. It just didn't make sense. It was at about that time that the turbolift doors opened with their usual trademark 'swish', revealing the newly appointed Chief Ops Officer who glaced sideways towards Vasilyovna as she stepped onto the bridge. "Good evening Lieutenant Vasilyovna", said Chenoll. "Is it?", enquired the Security Chief, "I hadn't noticed, my heads been buried in a spurious sensor contact for the last hour or so", she added. "If you say it is though, I'll take your word for it" Chenoll simply nodded, apparently unphased by the Chiefs somewhat offish attitude in regards the nature of the evening. The blue one then took her seat at the required station and began inputing status commands. As for Vasilyovna, she ran yet another test on the spurious contact. (reply Vasilyovna) Chenoll nodded a reply and sat down at the Ops station, dismissing the junior bridge officer that was sitting there before her. Pun'Til and her fellow Cardassians had been dealing with the intermediary for some time now and the profits were not only excellent but the venture was weakening the Dilithium trade with the federation in the sector. "It has indeed been a pleasure doing business with you." said Pun'Til tracing her neck ridges with a finger underneath her hood. "I am only providing my services to the Cardassians as a function of profitability." said the other robed figure. His colorful language was pixelized by the voice modifying collar that he always wore. Pun'Til had wondered for the last several months if the collar altered his appearance as well. "What are the chances I can get close to the Starfleet officer who attacked my brother?" ahe asked. "Commander Sajh wants the Spectre and her crew to find no further reason to stay in Ushari space. Apparently it had been a vessel known for dubious dealings elsewhere and that in itself was something that made it worth a closer look, if only to satisfy their own curiosity. The moment the Starfleet officers had approached it however, they had been turned about by Ushari security seemingly intent on exercising their control now after the Rogers fiasco beforhand. Lieutenant Donaldson had of course reluctantly obliged, clearly though his intention was to return a little later perhaps, for another look at the mysterious vessel and hopefully, it's manifest also. For now, it seemed that their prior plan to talk to the natives was the only one that was really open to them, they had only been there a short time though and had briefly chatted to only a few of the Ushari yard personel with little, or no results. Lieutenant Donaldson of course, seemed pensive and perhaps a little unsure of exactly how they were being perceived right now after recent events. "I was hoping our presence here would at least unnerve someone", he had voiced. "Oh believe me, their unnerved", said Yates, "their just good at not showing it" The Lieutenant had simply nodded, it might have meant that he had agreed with that sentiment, but then again it might have meant he had not. One could never tell with someone that had had their spirit sucked out and replaced by a machines intellect, albeit only for a short time. "I know the Captain will want us onboard the Spectre in just a few hours, frankly, I don’t think we’re going to find anything helpful here. Chuck outranked her, she had no chance of bossing him around, but she had a hope in heck of getting Nathaniel to see reason. The problem, however, was going to be FINDING him. Pulling out her seldom used tricorder she stared at the interface. Scanning for poisons and food incompatibilities was just about all she used it for. "Uh, wha.....", said Yates, puzzled now at what had just happened. A moment beforehand, he had the fleeing figure within his reach and then all of a sudden there was darkness all around, Yates could see nothing and hear very little more besides the scratching of something moving over to his left. "No point in hiding buddy, you may as well give yourself up and save us both the trouble", said Yates as he fumbled about in the dark, wishing that he had had the good fortune to have brought a light source of some kind along with him. Which of course he had not. Nervously, he drew his phasor and pointed it ahead of him, then he listened intently for signs of where his target might lay. Moving his foot, the clank of a metal can of some sort resounded through the alleyway with a sharp, bouncing retort, then all was silent once again as he continued onwards. All of a sudden, a chink of light appeared ahead of him and a shadow moved to his right. Yates moved towards it and aimed his phasor high, he took a deep breath and then it happened. THUD!!! The impact was enough to have stilled an Elephant and yet the Security Officer, in his now prone position upon the floor was already attempting to stand up again. A light flashed into his eyes as he gazed upwards into the figure that had just moved around in front of him. This was not the same person he had given chase to, this person was far more agile than he and he had moved like a cat. Yates reached across the floor to his now visible Phasor. "Who... wha..", said Yates, just as the figure spoke.... in a metallic, hollow voice. "I think not, game over", said the voice. The Ensign huffed and rolled his eyes into his head, then he began again. "Let me be blunt, my gut tells me that we are on a clock, so I frankly don't have time to weasel the information out of you. So allow me to make it clear that I know everything about you Leena, and your brother John. If you don't tell me everything I want to know I am going to inform everyone he owes money to as to where he is, and I'll make sure that you don't manage to warn him. And if I find out that you lied to me or held anything back, I'll do the same thing. Now what do you know?", said the Fleeter. "I know that your an ass", said Leena, "bully boy tactics may work upon those that bow down to Staaaarfleeeeeet, but they do NOT work here", she added, drawing out the Starfleet and emphasising the NOT as she did so. "And before we go any further, it might actually surprise you to know that I know a little about you also Ensign Alex Goldsteen", said Leena, this time emphasising the Ensigns name itself. (Reply Goldsteen) Her return of course had been quicker than she had expected, it was obvious that the Ensign was a little agitated by how she had come to know personal details of his own Starfleet service file, files that should NOT have been available to anyone, let alone a lowly barkeep working on a rock ball like Ushar Prime. Whatever he felt though, Leena herself had mellowed somewhat to lean onto her bar, clearly not in the least bit intimidated by his aggressive stance and posturing. "I'll tell you what, you have come here looking for information, it's clear that your back is up but that of course will get you nowhere and threatening me or my family, even less", said Leena. They talked repeatedly back and forth, before finally calming down. Rogers waited a few more minutes, before deciding that Goldsteen had defused the situation. He quickly said goodbye to his Ushari friend, and stood up, exiting the bar without a further look at Goldsteen. Once out in the street, Rogers quickly started heading down the street. His objective now, was to investigate one of the Dilithium mines, and not get caught by the Ushari police forces. That was simple enough, but, he assumed that T'Vhor and O'Connor would also prefer if he did it without leaving behind a trail of bodybags. Especially ones filled with Federation citizens. Hopping on one of the public transportation vehicles, Rogers sighed, and began bouncing towards one of the mining outposts. The Capital City, he assumed, would have few or no mining centers, and if they had any, they probably would be heavily guarded. He hoped the ones outside would be more...scarce. "Well", she began. "The Cardassian is like all Cardassian's, he's a worm, a lowlife", said Leena, "he's been in here many times before, always with the woman that your friend showed such an interest in, just before he managed to get himself dropped by the Ushari Metro police", she added with just a hint of disgust at how easily he had managed to do that. The reports she had received had simply mentioned an aggressive Cardassian female that had apparently been beamed aboard in an emergency, though what kind of an emergency warranted the beaming aboard of a dangerous, out of control suspect however remained to be seen. Upon entering into the brig she had been met with Donaldson of course, apparently rubbing at his implant aimlessly now whilst gazing almost motionless at the Cardassian now sleeping upon one of the benches in the holding cell. With the head toss of the well martyred bunny, he munched some of the hay, not really noticing he was scattering bits under the Captain's command chair. Munch, munch, munch. Tummy satisfied, for the next wee while, anyway, Mark came out from the nice hidey space and gave a mighty leap up onto the comfy chair. All the important beings napped here, after all. At that precise moment, his head was hurting like crazy and he had hazzarded a guess that if it hadn't been so dark, he probably would have been having trouble focussing anyway. Wearilly, the stricken security officer drew himself forwards in the dust, the fabric of his uniform catching on something beneath him that he had obviously fallen upon. "While I do not know if I agree with the phrase lughead," Alex answered coolly, "I would say that the rest of your analysis is correct." "I disagree", said Leena, standing now to address yet another newcomer to the bar. "Sometimes it's more important to actually have a heart, even when you are tasked, as you are, with keeping law and order", she added as she promptly took the newcomers order, dispensed it and then returned to the erstwhile Goldsteen, who was not looking at all convinced. "In the end what does it matter anyway?", said Alex clearly indicating now that he wasn't even particularly comfortable with sharing his feelings and emotions. "Oh it matters greatly", said Leena, "I knew a Starfleet Chief of Security once. He was the kindest, most beautiful guy in the universe, absolute heart of gold and yet you'd be a complete and utter fool to cross him", she added with a sigh, indicating clearly that she certainly missed the guy. "I would have a hard time figuring out how those two sides of him correct," Alex answered, visibly wishing that the Bartender would change to a different topic. "I think the deal is to keep the two sides of yourself seperate", said Leena, "build yourself a little box in your mind and compartmentise it. Keep stern, by the book Goldsteen in one half and warm, compassionate Goldsteen in the other, but never..... repeat never, let the two mix" "That will not present me with any problems" Alex replied with an amused grin forming on his lips, "for the simple reason that I fairly sure that warm, compassionate Goldsteen does not...repeat does not exist." "Just try it, you might find your life is just a tad nicer believe me", said Leena with a wink. "My life is very nice already" Alex replied, even as various reasons to argue with that assessment ran through his mind. "Tell ya what, how about we play a little game", asked Leena. Alex looked at her cautiously, certain that any game he played with her would end up with him as the loser. Still, there might be an opportunity to learn something during this game that he could not pass up. "Fairly well," he finally said with noticable hesiation. "Questions and answers, I ask you a question, which you answer honestly and then you ask me a question, which I answer honestly", said Leena. "It might actually surprise you and it'll certainly pass the time" "Nothing work related or too personal, just interests and such. I`ll go first.... your favourite colour?" "Black", said Goldsteen, much the the Bartenders consternation. Leena closed her eyes and shook her head, then she let out a heavy sigh. "Is that even a colour?", she asked, "science says that it is more a complete absence of colour, a state of total spectral absorbence of each and every frequency of the visible spectrum", she added, quirking her head slightly as she spoke. "But then again.....perhaps your answer does indeed say something about you" The Fleeter said nothing, he simply raised an eyebrow of his own in typical, 'I would really not be playing this stupid game' manner before asking a question of his own, just to keep her happy. "Your favourite childhood toy?", she asked. "I do not remember ever playing with any", said the Fleeter, his reply coming mere seconds after the question was actually posed, thus indicating that he was not making this one up. Leena opened her eyes wide, the shock of the mans answer lingering upon her expression like a Tiberian Bat, just for a moment or two. "You never had a toy as a child?", she asked dumbstruck, "my god, even Klingon's have toys..... granted they bite and are prone to taking lumps of flesh out of them but at least they still see it as play", she added incredulously. To be honest, the last question she had asked been loaded from the start, and had been designed to see exactly what kind of a man Alex could be, when his head wasn't actually jammed up his backside. The moment she had asked it though, she had realised that it had actually been HIS turn to ask her a question. To bring it up now though seemed a tad incongruous so she let it pass and simply awaited his answer. The answer had not surprised the Bartender in the slightest, it had been as predictable as the man himself and had revolved entirely around work, even to the point of the companion. ~Oh boy, this guy is hard work, does he ever get off work~ thought Leena rolling her eyes. Mining Center #3 - SFI Agent - Lt. Cmdr Brian Rogers - 19:36) Rogers rode the public transportation system out to one of the smaller cities. Once it stopped at a station, he hopped off and started walking down one of the tunnels. The tunnel was practically empty. There were only mines here, and it was past quitting time. Rogers spotted one of the mines. It was a larger one, but not the largest one he could find. ~Hopefully, I'll find some connection to the Cardassians, but not as much security as one that pulls a lot of rock,~ Rogers noted to himself. Rogers sighed and took off his comm badge. He set it on the floor of the tunnel, hoping to stop any possible distractions. He was nervous, his heart was beating, and he didn't know why. Slowly, he pushed open one of the bulkhead-like gates to the mining center and slipped in. There were a few guards in the mining center, though they were privatized, not the public peacekeepers that had 'neutralized' him outside the bar. They were at ease, and Rogers had no problem carefully dodging around them. He moved quickly and quietly through the dark areas of the mining center. It was shut down for the night, and he moved swiftly. He hit the office-area of the mining center first. Though the lights were on inside, the doors weren't locked and it wasn't occupied. Once inside, he moved to a computer terminal, and sat down. He knew the possibilities of a guard discovering him were high, so he moved quickly. He quickly skimmed all the files he could get his hands on, but there was nothing. He looked up contracts, hoping to find some link to the Cardassians. ~Come on,~ he said, his fingers moving quickly over the console's controls. All he could find were government controls, however. All the Dilithium mined from this facility were sold to the government. Rogers could feel the sweat building on his forehead as he kept nervously glancing between the door and terminal screen. ~You're spooking out, Rogers~ Brian scolded himself, ~You used to love these kinda ops,~ he thought. Finally, he found reference to the Ushari economy that he wasn't aware of - all the commercially owned mining centers sold their Dilithium to the government for trading. Rogers sighed, ~Looks like I came for nothing,~ he bemoaned. He logged off the computer terminal, and slowly walked back to the door of the small office, when he heard two sets of foot steps approaching. Panicked, he looked around before diving under the small desk that held the computer terminal, and held his breath. He watched carefully as the door opened, and two Ushari guards entered. They made small talk and headed over to the terminal. Rogers slipped the egg phaser out of his sleeve and set it to high-stun. He would use it, if he had too. The men chatted briefly while one used the terminal. Brian waited... any sign that they had found his presence, and he would have to stun them and try to escape. "Hey... wait a second. What's this?" The one sitting at the terminal said. Rogers held his breath.... "Most probably" he said with just a hint of bitterness, "someone in authority will finally decide that I go too far in carrying out my duty. "But what's the point in finishing anything if you yourself are no better off than before you began?", asked Leena, "I mean, even a Security officer such as yourself feels a certain pride at bringing things to a happy conclusion, irrespective of what it might entail. Plus, why on earth should seeing something through to the very end, stop you being a success?", she added as she paused to take another sip of her drink. "Ask me a question please", he requested, "for some reason I can not seem to think of one" Leena just sighed a heavy sigh and then rested her chin contemplatively onto her hand. "What... what's wrong?" the second one, the one not using the terminal, asked. "They scheduled me to work until 05.00 tomorrow, those jerks!" the first man said. The two guards began to discuss the problems with the mine's director of security, who apparantly had difficultly respecting his employee's request for their work shifts. Rogers breathed a sigh of relief and waited silently under the desk. Once the guards had left the room, Rogers emerged from his hiding spot, and silently protruded his head from the door, checking down the corridor in the small office section of the mining center. Once the coast was clear, Rogers moved from shadow to shadow, moving through the mining center, until he reached the main gates where he had entered. Silently, he left the center, and grabbed his comm badge from the place where he had stuck it. Quickly affixing it to his tunic, Rogers headed back towards the public transportation depot swiftly, not caring much about sounds, his boots made sharp noises in the tunnel while he started sprinting faster and faster. It certainly seemed that the Prime Minister held no real grudge against the Federation per se, and the manner in which he was entertaining them was a testament to that fact. The meal that they had just been treated to had apparently been a much sought after delicacy amongst the inhabitants of Ushar and one not usually wasted on just anybody. The table itself appeared to be akin to Oak, but whether Oak was a tree that actually grew here or not was another matter entirely, it's polished surface however was yet another testament to the way that these people preferred to live, at least in the upper echelons anyway. With their meal out of the way though, the discussion had quickly come around to the matter of Lieutenant Commander Rogers and the incident in Dar'Pal Arcade. It went without saying of course that the obvious Cardassian involvement there had not gone down at all well with Ung'Hst, who had appeared most insistent that none of their Dilithium was going to Cardassia. In fact he had been so outraged by that possibility, he had actually scheduled an urgent meeting with Den'Ja, his Home secretary in order to discuss this. "I will look into this immediately, you have my word", said Ung'Hst as he shifted his large bulk backwards in his chair so as to create more leg room between himself and the aforementioned, heavy Oak table. The Captain paused just briefly, the second of the pressing matters now coming to the fore of his mind. This would not be an easy thing to have to broach by any standards, not that it would affect Vulcan sensibility's of course, but that it might upset the Prime Minister even further than he already seemed to be. The only way the Captain could tell it though, was like it was. Logical as ever. "I am afraid that my officer's have also detected a possible security leak leading to the Cardassian and quite possibly, an external alliance of some kind. It would seem that this leak may, or may not be within your own ranks Prime Minister", said the Captain. The notion was of course met with the expected outburst. "Preposterous!", said Ung'Hst, "I can vouch for every single member of my staff and their direct associates", he added in complete dismay now over the very possibility that someone might actually be working on something without his knowledge of it. A fist was duly slammed hard onto the table causing his serving dish and utensils to fly into the air and overturn. Ung'Hst then took a deep breath and began working on calming himself somewhat before addressing the Captain and his First Officer once again. "Captain.....", he began still a little breathily, "if there is, as you say a leak amongst my own ranks, then I will make it my priority to track it down and plug it. If I may, I would ask that you assist me in this task as much as you can in order that we can put this matter to rest as soon as possible", said Ung'Hst. The Captain nodded. "Of course Prime Minister, my ship and crew are at your service as always", said the Captain. "May I add also that it is in both our interests to find out who may be behind this, for it affects both Ushar and the Federation", he added. Ung'Hst huffed his approval and then shuffled his chair even further back so that he could stand from within it. "Agreed", he said as he turned about, the contents of his now full belly obviously causing him just a little discomfort now. "I am afraid that I will have to leave you now, I have matters to attend to, my assistants will see to whatever needs you may have", said Ung'Hst as he shuffled slowly towards the door. The Captain and First Officer then stood also. "May I thank you for a wonderful meal Prime Minister, we must repay your hospitality soon", said the Captain. "Quite", said Ung'Hst, and then he was gone. (Reply Any) (Posted by Alan) (Ushar Prime - Capital City, PM's Residence - FO Commander Michael Ian O'Connor - 20:40) The meal had been very good, but then Michael liked food, all food...well almost all food. But this food ranked up there with good food and so Michael enjoyed it, and let the Captain be the bad guy for the pair of them. By the time the Prime Minister stormed out, Michael was done with the meal, and followed the Captain out of the building. They reached the streets and Michael looked around. The PM's residence was in the middle of the Capital city, not far from the Capital building. He could see shops up and down the street. What he noticed a few seconds too late, was a female Ushari wearing what amounted to an office suit, walking towards them faster than Michael liked. Quickly stepping between the Captain and the woman, Michael spoke out as the woman got within speaking distance. "Can we help you Miss?" Michael asked. "Commander O'Connor, Captain T'Vhor?" The woman asked, but didn't wait for an answer. "The Foreign Secretary sends his regrets that he hasn't been able to meet you in person, but meetings keep him occupied. Still he wanted to at least pass along this along to you. He said it wasn't anything important, best left to when you have some time back on your ship," the woman said, speaking quickly. "However I must excuse myself, I have to be home for dinner shortly, or my husband will start without me. Good Day, Sirs. Have a pleasant visit." The Woman then turned and crossed the street and continued away from the pair of officers. Michael turned to look at the Captain, shrugged and then looked at the envelope the woman had handed him. He opened it quickly, and pour out the contents into his hands, a single isolinear chip. "Captain, I hate politics, just thought you should know," Michael said then handed him the chip. (Reply T'Vhor) (Posted by Patrick D.) (Ushar Prime - Capital City, PM's Residence - Captain T'Vhor - 20:42) The Captain had seen her too, she seemed in a hurry and by the time she had actually got within a few feet of them, O'Conner had done what any good FO would have done and put himself immediately between the woman and his Commanding Officer. "Can we help you Miss?", the First Officer had asked. The resultant spiel that had then followed, continued on in much the same vein as the woman's manner of approach, namely rushed and somewhat curtly delivered. To begin with, she had offered the Foreign Secretary's apologies at not being able to meet the Spectre's officers personally, then she went on to hand them an envelope before departing with just about as much haste as she had displayed upon her arrival. ~Most strange~ thought the Captain.... If there was one thing that a Starship Captain invariably developed whilst occupying the big chair of a Federation vessel, it was a sixth sense of possible impending danger. This was one such occasion. Already, a member of the away team had suffered an attack on the surface and that in itself was a pretty good indicator that someone didn't particularly want them there. Right now though, the envelope held loosely within the FO's hand could quite possibly have contained anything, an explosive, a viral contaminent or any number of other potential threats, and as such, the Captain had been just about to recommend that the FO not immediately open the envelope, but wait until precautions could be engaged beforehand. Unfortunately though, Commander O'Conner had already opened it up with more than just a hint of urgency to see what it contained! "Captain, I hate politics, just thought you should know", he had offered as he subsequently tipped out a single Isolinear chip into his palm and then handed it to him. "And I dislike unecessary risks Commander, wherever they may happen to come from", said the Captain, "perhaps you should not have done that", he added. (Reply O'Conner) "An unknown messenger, an unverified package, a hasty retreat once it had been delivered", said the Captain with a quizzical raise of an eyebrow. (Reply O'Conner) "Nevertheless, we had no assurance that the envelope did not contain something dangerous, and given events from the past few hours.... Prudence would have been the better option I feel", said the Captain. (Reply O'Conner) The Captain nodded, it was now a foregone conclusion anyway and to discuss it after the event was completely illogical. "I would suggest that as the device is now in our hands, apparently genuine and seemingly of no immediate risk, we ascertain it's contents at the earliest opertunity", said Captain T'Vhor. (Reply O'Conner) (Posted by Alan) (Ushar Prime - Capital City, Reception Hall - Captain T'Vhor - 20:55) It had been a long day, the Captain was actually looking forwards now to returning to the ship and finally getting some rest. It was true of course that as a Vulcan he could survive on very little of that particular commodity, but even he had to get his head down sometimes. That was an undeniable fact of life, Vulcan or otherwise. The episode with Rogers had been something they could all have done without and at a critical juncture in their negotiations, it hadn't exactly curried any favour with the Ushari themselves either. Indeed, the very thought of the SFI man had caused the CO to begin wondering what he might be up to right now, and with that in mind he reached up to tap at his combadge to call for the final reports from all away team members, before preparing to beam back aboard for the meeting with Ensign Goldsteens contact. "Scotch," Rogers commanded, and the replicator did as commanded. Rogers promptly turned his shoulders, and headed to the corner of the room, to a small table where he sat alone. Rogers gripped the glass, and downed it quickly. The Synthehol-tasting Scotch washed over his tongue and the agent frowned out the window, at the vista, and the planet down below. "Damn," he muttered to himself. To the casual observer, it seemed that he may be commenting on the stars. Instead, however, Brian was thinking about his performance during the 'mission'. Gotten shot, arrested, and breaking into a mining center, typical things for a SFI agent. ~But am I an SFI agent, or a member of the Spectre's crew?~ Rogers pondered, carefully handling the empty glass. What further troubled him, was the way he had felt while investigating the mining center. He always felt fear during 'operations', it was that fear and chaos that drove him. However, this time... He felt unnerved, and burned out. Not yet 30, and he couldn't even handle it anymore. And that, scared him. Arriving back on board the Spectre however, the Captain took a moment or two to aclimatise before stepping down from the transport pad and addressing the Vulcan Transporter chief. "Anything to report Chief?", he asked enquiringly. "Yes sir, a number of communiques have arrived from Starfleet command regarding crew rotation and departmental assignments", said the Chief. "Assignments?", said the Captain quizzically, they had barely left spacedock, why were there so many people being shunted around and reassigned these days? "Yes sir, we are scheduled to receive an incoming shuttle at twenty two hundred hours with new personnel, the order was passed by......", said the chief as he was abruptly cut off by the Captain querying the time slot. "Twenty two hundred hours?.... I won't be able to receive the crew personally, I have a meeting to attend to with a guest being brought aboard by Ensign Goldsteen", said the Captain. "Incidently, have they....", he added just as he himself was pre-empted by the chief. "Yes sir, they arrived a little after twenty One hundred hours", said the Chief, "apparently, the Ensign was eager to give her a guided tour of the ship.....no sensitive areas of course sir", he added. "Of course", said the Captain, "we would not want a simple bartender meddling with one of our Quantum torpedo launchers", he added with just a slight semblance of an uncharacteristic smile, courtesy of his Betazoid half of course. "No sir", said the Chief, "that would not be advisable for one normally associated with shaking up beverages behind a bar" "Certainly not", said the Captain thoughtfully, then he turned about and headed for the door. "The First Officer will be beaming aboard shortly, inform him of the new arrivals and that I will meet with him following my meeting in order to discuss recent events, and also whatever it is that this person is here to discuss" "Yes sir", said the Chief as he watched the Captain disappear through the doors. Then he moved towards the viewing ports to gaze down onto the surface of Ushar Prime spinning slowly below. The reports earlier had raised one or two concerns, typically the intermittent contact reported by the Security Chief and the fact that it bore possible similarity to a cloaked vessel of some kind. Vasilyovna had stated that, 'It was unlike any kind of cloaked vessel she had seen', if indeed it even was one. If it was though then it could open up a world of trouble, there would only be one possible reason that a vessel would establish orbit in a cloaked state, and that was if it was engaged in some kind of subterfuge. The Captain shook his head, it didn't bear thinking of and he chose to put the matter aside until something more concrete had been established in regards it. Then he tapped his combadge. In all of her times travelling from here to there, she had graced the decks of many a Federation vessel, though whether she would actually admit that to anyone outside of her own specific circle however, remained to be seen of course. The one thing that you tended to pick up though, as a Bartender in transit that is, was the fact that people never ceased to be amazed by parlour tricks and cocktail logistics, and being so well travelled Leena had learned from the very best. The Spectre's duty Barkeep himself even had been impressed at the ease that she had blended, and the taste test at the very end had cinched their little wager decidedly in her favour. "Ok, you win", he'd said and had promptly handed over the credits that had been staked beforehand. It was then though that the effervessant Goldsteen arrived once again to lead her astray again. "Congratulations, but it is time for us to go", he had uttered in that self same, never ending dutiful tone of voice. Leena put on her very best disappointed pout and had then let out a heavy sigh, "but I'm enjoying myself Alex, it's fun here", she said. Goldsteen however was anything but fun, that much she had worked out long ago during their apparently 'one sided' game in the bar on Ushar Prime. The Security officer had simply frowned in her direction, a visible manifestation of un-uttered words but she knew full well what he was saying. "Ok ok, lead the way", said Leena. "Ladies first", said Alex as he took an almost comical bow in her direction, the first indication that he had given yet that he could actually be funny in any way, shape or form. Leena raised an eyebrow and then made for the exit. "Captain T'Vhor", said Leena cheerily, whilst moving across the room now, her hand extended towards him in a gesture of open greeting. Real Jose said to the holo-version of him. "Man, Houseman, you couldsa put a couple inches and muscles on me!" Before Houseman could reply Holo-Rameriz did his best indignant look. He carried his bags by his sides, his upper body barely shifting while his body purposely moved towards the main bulkhead doors of the bay. Khran spotted a young human Ensign near one of the shuttles, and called him. "Ensign." Khran said in a low, deep, throaty voice. The ensign spun around. "Yeah, sir?" he asked. "Where is the Marine Executive Officer?" Khran demanded purposefully. "Oh, uh, I dunno about the Marines, sir, I'm 'fleet." The young man answered. "Ensign, the Marines are apart of your ship," Khran lectured. "It is your duty to know every senior member of the ship, including the MCO and MXO." The ensign was embarrassed. "Oh yeah. I think I'll go see if they need any help in Engineering!" he said, before leaving. Khran sighed and tapped his comm badge. "Computer, who is the Marine Executive Officer on this vessel?" he demanded. [The Marine Executive Officer is currently Major Bruce Kowalski. He is currently in the Marine Quarters, on Deck 15.] Khran sighed. "Thank you," he replied curtly to the computerized voice. The Chamaloid did have a tendency to simply disappear now and then though, and this latest jaunt was much akin to the many others that he had endulged in, when the time had been available for him to do so. As always, when the Lieutenant Colonel was 'Sight seeing', as he had once put it, it was Kowalski's job to run the ship, so to speak, well, in as much as he also acknowledged the Captain's authority of course. As far as the Marines were concerned though, they were invariably pulling the real strings, even when they weren't being called upon! At this precise moment in time, the particular incident that had been written up for the MXO's attention, involved a skirmish of some sort between Houseman and the newly arrived Ramiriz who had, according to reports from their drill sergeant, been flying about through the Jefferies tubes of the ship 'beating the crap' out of each other. To be honest nothing surprised the MXO these days, part of it was testosterone based of course, trained killing machines such as House and Ramiriz often found themselves 'venting' steam so to speak, especially whenever their natural urges to kill something were hampered by spates of not being able to do so! Both of them were now on report of course, each of them blaming the other for the fracas and neither imparting anything more than the fact that they were, just having a bit of fun. The rumour mill was rife though, a Holo-program had been mentioned on more than one occasion but regardless of what was being said, the one thing that was assured was that the MXO would inevitably get to the bottom of it. It was whilst Bruce was adding an addendum to the report on the PADD, that the chime to his quarters broke his concentration and prompted a curt 'Come', followed of course by the appearance of a new, very blue face standing in his doorway. The MXO at first appeared puzzled, then the penny finally dropped. This was one of the new squad members Krige had briefed him on before he had vanished in one of his hazes. "Sir! Lt. Major Khran, reporting for duty. I was recently re-attached to the company onboard the Spectre, sir", said the Andorian Marine. "At ease Lieutenant Major, please....", said Kowalski, gesturing with his arm for the man to come forwards. "Re-attached you say? You've served with us before then?", asked the MXO. "I was.... in the 'fleet before my Marine retraining, sir. Tactical and Security onboard the USS Dennison and USS Monhart", said the Andorian. "I see", said Kowalski as he called up the Marines file for further scrutiny. The Marine stood by and awaited his response. "Is this a personal mission Lieutenant Major?", asked the MXO. (Reply Khran) "I mean, are you trying to address this hatred of yours for Humans", said Kowalski, looking up now directly into the Andorians face. (Reply Khran) "Would you not have preferred a land based posting rather than a ship borne one full of 'Humanoids'?", said the MXO. (Reply Khran) Bruce let out a sigh and after nodding accordingly, he returned to the file in question to read a little more on this new arrival, only to stop at a poignant paragraph regarding the Andorians time on Earth. "Were you aware that a past love interest of yours was serving on board the Spectre Lieutenant Major?", asked the MXO with an almost Vulcan raising of an eyebrow. So, he divided everyone up into two teams and handed out the weapons. With a small bribe from Houseman in the form of a promise of some 'left on' time, he put his real self and Houseman on separate teams. The game was capture the flag paintball, red vs blue. Khran clenched his teeth slightly, trying to bare it. This human, Kowalski, was his superior officer, and a fellow Marine, but at the moment, he seemed to enjoy prodding Khran like two children teasing a dying Andorian Swamp Neagle. "Sir, although I do not prefer to socialize with humans after-hours, and may have gotten into a fight with humans off-hours from time to time, I do not... hate them," Khran said, unbelievably. "Love interest?" he had said, "I would say that is impossible, Major. I never had a.... love interest", said Khran who had rather bizarrely gone to attention again, regardless of the fact that he had already been put 'at ease' once already by the MXO. "I am referring to one of our Engineering Officers.... or rather our new Chief of Ops as she goes by now, if the grapevine is giving the correct info these days", said Kowalski. "Goes by the name of Chenoll", he added as he watched the Andorian fidget slightly on the other side of the desk. "Oh.... Cadet Chenoll, I hardly remember her, Major. A school boy relationship, if there were any truer sense of the phrase", said Khran. The MXO though, clearly wasn't immediately buying into it. He leaned forwards and rested both his forearms onto the desk in front of him, then he began flipping a small metal disk through his fingers, no doubt a meditation of some kind, or so everyone had always assumed. The silence pervaded just for a while, then it was broken with.... "Will this be a problem soldier?" "I doubt it will be a problem, Major. She's a Fleeter, We're Marines", said the Marine opposite. Kowalski simply remained as he was, staring intently up into the stark blue face of the Andorian, who didn't flinch once despite the MXO's somewhat hardened stare. "I see", said Kowalski, "the fact that she's a Fleeter and you are a Marine is a virtual contraceptive then.... is that what you are saying?", he added. (Reply Khran) The MXO suddenly stopped what he had been doing with the metal disk, then he rested back into his chair and swung about the console upon the desk, looking up briefly to the Andorian as he did so with a puzzled look upon his face. The worst of those casualties however were not those that could be easily seen or accounted for, they were not statistics on an overall map or figures on a wall depicting soldiers lost to their families and loved ones. No, they were those that remained hidden behind otherwise normal facades, emanating into sudden awareness in response to certain, unpredictable stimulants, the least of which was the thing that we call the mind itself. Everyone of us has a switch inside them, it is not a switch in the real sense of the word of course, but it is still a switch nonetheless and it CAN be tilted. The switch that resides in Chief Petty Officer Marruns head however had just flipped once again, whether that had been as a direct result of the impromptu paint balling session in Holodeck two or not however, remains to be seen of course, but one minute he had been laughing at the resounding slap of a mass of Orange paint hitting him a broadside, the next, an explosion immediately nearby had sent fragments of body parts showering all over him and deep into his oral cavity. In an instance, he was in the process of disgorging large quantities of saliva across the floor in a frantic attempt to excise the blood and gore that had just made it's way there, whilst the unmistakable stench of burnt flesh assailed the CPO's nostrils and caused him to wretch and cough. Immediately he had gone hot, not physically of course but 'Hot' as in full on active combat readiness. He looked down briefly at his assault rifle, the paint still dripping from the nozzle from whence it had just discharged it's previous paintball, then seeing that this weapon was pretty much next to useless, he threw it aside harshly and drew out his combat knife from the sheath that lay across his side. Then he darted into a nearby hedgerow and fell onto his belly. The Marine comms channel had already crackled into life in his earpiece whilst he instinctively checked his TACOM and made his report to the squad leader. "Blue Two to Apex One, I have hot targets half a click, bearing nine six, one ninety, twenty two. In position and ready, over", said the Marine. =/\=Apex One to Blue Two, you are clear for contact, codeword is 'Miranda swims', repeat, codeword is 'Miranda swims'... Confirmed hot=/\= "Roger that, moving out", said Marrun as he lifted himself into a crouch and then moved off through the undergrowth towards the unmistakable sounds of the enemy nearby. If there was one thing that a marine was trained to do well, it was move in a manner that mimicked the surrounding audible references so as to blend in and not alert a hot target, Marrun was particularly good at it and once he had achieved background reference, there was no stopping him from achieving his goal. Within minutes, the marine was upon them. They were laughing and firing volleys of paint at one another as they engaged the Holodeck scenario in harmless cameraderie. In Marruns now broken mind however, the collective were hostile beasts that were now in the process of eviscerating his comrades, their respective cries ringing out and resonating around the trees that flanked them on all sides, whilst the beasts tore them limb from limb and then scattered their entrails across the ground causing inhuman streaks upon the earth as they did so. Hate and venom seeped inexorably through the CPO's tortured mind, there was only one thing to do now and it would probably culminate in his own demise. But there was nothing else to do..... The seconds turned to minutes as Marrun gritted his teeth, rested his chin onto the head of his serated combat knife and then closed his eyes. His hands gripped the handle firmly as he pushed it slowly into the earth immediately beneath his chin. "You gotta do this Marine, you gotta end this now", he whispered to himself, then he returned his gaze to the bizarre and bloody scene of death that was now playing out right before his eyes. It was now or never, make or break, no other choices available. He was a Marine and he had a job to do. This was to be where the line would be drawn. It took but one second, the Marine saw his chance, a maximum of collateral that could be gained from this precise moment in time and in a split second, he was upon them. Leaping into their midst, his blade flashed through the air and cut deep into one of the beasts arms, blood shot upwards as it did so and yet Marrun was not yet done. He circled around quickly and then moved to engage the next nearest of the beasts as it quickly squared off to face him, the others scrambling for defensive posture now as they prepared to engage. Within moments, everyone was shouting and paint was spilling everywhere. To Marrun however it was no longer paint but rivers of blood that fell into pools here and there, a visual echo of his victims demise as he lashed out again and again. "Jeezus man!!", cried one of the beasts, "get a grip, what the hell....." Then another tried to grab him as the others moved in to attempt to bring the now tilted Marine under some semblance of control. "Marrun, Marrun!!!", cried another, "He's gone AWOL, get that damned knife off of him now before he does anymore.... erumph!!!" The struggle continued on, Marrun not quite understanding why the beasts were speaking in familiar terms with him right now as they inevitably began gaining control, locking his arm and then finally seperating the combat knife from his grip before throwing him down hard onto his front. "NEEEEEEAAAAGH!!", cried Marrun as he attempted to lift the Marines from on top of him. "Bastards!!! Bastards!!!", he cried, "Evil, twisted sons of bitches, I'll kill you all, I'll Kill you all!!" Inevitably though, the Marine was now going nowhere fast. His comrades, for that was what they were of course, continued to hold him until he had burnt himself out and could be easilly contained. All around though the Marines were now in a state of disarray, this was one of their own and he had visciously attacked them, his mind clearly deluded and gripped in a state of intolerable post trauma. A few of the Marines of course were now tending their wounds, their faces screwed up in pain as they attempted to stem the flowing of blood from the deep cuts that they had received from Marruns wildly flailing blade. It came as no surprise though that despite what had just happened, no one was particularly holding any real grudges right now, it was true that some were a tad pissed of course but the fact remained that they had all been there in varying degrees at some time or another. Combat did this kind of thing to a man, it was an inevitable casualty of simply being a marine and working in situations that demanded nerves of steel. This was not the first time this sort of thing had happened and it would not be the last time either. As for Marrun, his eyes continued to glare, his teeth tightly gritted to cause his facial jaw muscles to distend visibly in response to the war that still raged within his mind. It would take a little while, but within time he would slowly relax and reality would begin to seep back into him. Marrun would live to fight again, but for now anyway, the biggest fight he would need to deal with would be for control of the switch, that little toggle that had flipped so suddenly inside him. The switch that resided in all of them. One thing was for sure though, Marrun would be needing to see the Councillor yet again, and the sooner it was, the better. In an instance, he had stopped and looked back down the corridor from whence he had just come, then he looked further up it in an attempt to pinpoint the source of the strange sound that had assailed his pointed appendages. There it was again... A female, screaming and obviously in distress if the level of decibels were anything to go by. In a few moments though, the Captain was standing outside the door from whence the sound had emanated, his finger poised over the chime button. A second shriek followed by a shout of 'get it away, get it away!' convinced the Captain that decorum was not called for right now and he immediately overrode the door lock to let himself in, already unsure now as to what he would find beyond. The cries of the occupant had now increased to near hysteria and were clearly coming from the cubicle at the far side of the Officers in questions quarters. The Captain drew himself up and took a deep breath, then he moved swiftly towards the cubicle to open the door. What he found upon doing so would have been comical to anyone but a Vulcan, well, maybe a Trill also, for backed up high upon the ledge of the sonic shower the Trill in question continued to shriek, her eyes fixed upon the object of her angst which was currently seated in the tray below her, apparently munching on a small sponge that had been dropped during the Trill females attempts to get away from the thing. For a brief moment, the Captain stood somewhat mortified, then once his usual Vulcan calm had returned, he addressed the Rabbits victim. "Can I help you Madam", said the Captain, his eyes now discretely averted from the Officers near nakedness. "Take it away, get it away from me!", cried the Trill officer, "it's...it's eating my sponge", she added whilst attempting to climb ever further up into the ceiling panels above her. The Captain took a deep breath, then he stepped forwards and scooped up the fur covered miscreant to carry him back into the officers quarters proper. By that time of course, the woman had quickly dressed in a robe and had nervously exited the shower cubicle, obviously still in some state of distress. "How did it get in here, I don't understand how it could get in here!", exclaimed the woman as it suddenly began to dawn upon her exactly who had just come in and 'rescued' her. "Captain!... I.. I'm so sorry", said the woman. "It is not a problem Lieutenant", said the Captain, "you appeared to be in some distress, I hope you don't mind my gaining entry to your quarters", he added. The Trill woman bowed her head, clearly somewhat embarrassed now that her Captain had had to break in to rescue her from... whatever it was. "What is it anyway?", she asked, "how did it get on board?" The Captain glanced down to stroke the creatures head and it promptly sniffed at the probing fingers in an attempt to guage whether or not food was involved here or not. "It is called a Rabbit", said the Captain, "unless there are others of it's kind onboard the Spectre, I believe that it belongs to Ensign Kreung. As to how it managed to be here however, I have no idea", he added. "Apparently, it has become a bit of an expert at escapology" "So it would seem... sir", said the Trill female, clearly not buying into the fact that for now anyway, it appeared to be reasonably harmless within the Captain's grasp. "I will take it away", said the Captain, "no doubt I will be having a few words with Ensign Kreung in regards this matter very soon", he added as he promptly made good his exit to leave the startled woman to return to her shower, minus the Spectre's resident hopping voyeur of course. (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Corridor - Captain T'Vhor - 23:01) "Computer, has Ensign Kreung returned from the surface yet?", said the Captain whilst still stroking at the Rabbits head. [Ensign Kreung returned to the ship at twenty one, thirty nine hundred hours. She is currently located in the ten forward lounge] The Captain looked down briefly at the Rabbit, which was now showing some signs of wishing to go anywhere but where the Captain wanted him to be. T'Vhor held on to him though and promptly made his way to Ten Forward with just one thing on his mind now. Kreung was going to have to deal with Mark's escapes once and for all, even if she had to keep him within his carry cage for the duration of this mission! (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward Lounge - Captain T'Vhor - 23:10) It took the Captain only seconds to espy the seemingly jubilant Ensign Kreung, seated as she now was over by one of the Observation windows of the Ten forward lounge. His pace quickened slightly as he made his way towards her, the Rabbit now kicking with it's strong back legs in it's attempt to gain freedom yet again. Clearly, the Morale Officer was glad to finally be back on board after the debacle with Yates and the earlier troubles with Rogers. Seeing her approaching Captain however, and noticing the familiar creature carried firmly within his grasp, her manner had changed somewhat, in fact the Captain could already lip read her words as he approached. "Oh no...", she had said whilst those seated with her turned about to see what it was that had caused her sudden remark. "Ensign Kreung", said the Captain, "I believe this creature belongs to you", he added as Kreung somewhat sheepishly took the struggling creature from him. (Reply Kreung) "He managed to avail himself of Lieutenant Correly's quarters and observe her showering", said the Captain, the low sniggers of a few of the men seated with her drawing a predictable glance of disapproval from him as they did so. "I want you to ensure that this does not happen again, if need be then the Rabbit will be confined to his preferred living abode for the duration of this mission. Do I make myself clear?", said the Captain. (Reply Kreung, Any) "See to it that it is the first priority on your off duty list", said the Captain as he turned about and then headed for the exit. (Reply Kreung, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward Lounge - Ensign Jynea Kreung - 23:10) "Ensign Kreung", said the Captain, "I believe this creature belongs to you", he added. Jynea took Mark, who immediately stuck in head under her chin and tried to disappear. A bit difficult for the fluffy rabbit. She didn't think T'Vhor had been rough with the animal, but Mark was just used to everyone coo'ing over him and thinking him the cutest thing in the world. "Er, yessir." "He managed to avail himself of Lieutenant Correly's quarters and observe her showering", said the Captain, the low sniggers of a few of the men seated with her drawing a predictable glance of disapproval from him as they did so. Jynea managed to be rid of her amused look when the Captain looked back at her, and managed to look suitably appalled at her pet. "I want you to ensure that this does not happen again, if need be then the Rabbit will be confined to his preferred living abode for the duration of this mission. Do I make myself clear?", said the Captain. "Er, yessir!" His supposed to be preferred living abode was her quarters, and she'd seen how well *THAT* had worked.. "See to it that it is the first priority on your off duty list", said the Captain as he turned about and then headed for the exit. "Absolutely, sir." She told his back and then sighed down at her rabbit. "What am I going to do with you?" Mark snuffled into her throat. His mouth was full of beef when the Captain barged in holding the Counselor's pet. Paul almost spit his mouthful across the room with laughter but managed to get a hand up to block the exit. Paul was too far away from the action to hear the mutters of Jynea as the Captain approached but what was clear was the Captain's words. "Ensign Kreung", said the Captain, "I believe this creature belongs to you" ~I can't believe that transporter rig actually worked.~ thought Paul. ~Commander O'Connor thought that cameras would catch a master prankster ... he'll have to think a little more outside the box next time.~ (reply any) (posted by Anton) (USS Spectre - Marine's Barracks - Ensign Jynea Kreung - 23:40) She'd finished her late dinner, talking with the crew members who'd wanted to talk, let Mark be spoiled and then headed into the bowels of the ship to dangerous territory. Fortunately, being one of only two green officers on the ship made it fairly easy to get past the security checks and nonsense. She found herself in a quad-room, bunks, that smelt of alcohol, paint and stale cheese. Various weapons were racked, armour was stacked and bottles and food containers covered a desk. Three of the four bunks were occupied. She wasn't surprised to see as the newest comer, her target was on the bottom bunk nearest the door. "Jose," she said softly, crouching down beside the bed, whispering softly. "Myyrreh?" came the muffled reply from the pillow. He had the covers pulled over his head. "Jose.." she repeated softly. "Yes schookie?" he managed, half turning towards her, not disengaging from the blankets. "I have a very important thing for you to do to me, very dear to my heart. It could be dangerous, but I need a big, strong, brave marine.." she continued to whisper, trying her best to sound like one of those teen soap stars. "Anything for you, baby." "Wonderful!" she said, clapping her hands, fully waking up. "You're in charge of the rabbit. He better not escape or cause any problems while we are in Ushari space." "Nyaaaah!" Rameriz protested, half-sitting up, pulling the covers off and looking up at the counsellor wild-eyed. "On the plus side, it means you get to be in my quarters whenever I'm not about." She gave him her best smile and headed back out the door. Rameriz flomped back on his bunk. "Man, I told 'Shelly Orions were no good. Evils the lot of them!" His roommates snickered at his new assignment. (Reply any/all) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Spectre - Marine's Barracks - Corporal Houseman - 23:43) Houseman was halfway dismantling his rifle when he heard the barrack room doors open. He glanced over to see Jynea enter the room. She was here searching for some one and then headed towards Rameriz. ~Wonder what he's done now~ He picked up his cleaning rag and began to clean the working parts of the rifle. His hands worked automatically as his mind was straining to hear what Rameriz and Jynea were talking about. "Anything for you, baby." "Wonderful!" "You're in charge of the rabbit. He better not escape or cause any problems while we are in Ushari space." A sly grin spread across Houseman's face. He had tried to capture that rabbit and found that it was a furry Houdini. "Nyaaaah!" "On the plus side, it means you get to be in my quarters whenever I'm not about." ~Hope he's as tidy with her place as he is here~ "Man, I told 'Shelly Orions were no good. Evils the lot of them!" Houseman snickered as he got on with cleaning. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) =========================================================================
