However, the away team members have already been chosen and I see no real reason to change my decision, or indeed add to it", he said. "The mission will be a dangerous one. I do not want to risk any more personnel than I have to", he added. She thought a moment. "Well, there is a certain amount of people that you have to take along with you. However, dangerous missions are part of being in the Starfleet. You learn and grow in dangerous missions, by doing them as well. So while it is true that I lack some of the skills necessary, I am convinced that the skills that I acquire will come in need in the future." She was well aware of her issues and short-comings. She was also very aware of her strengths. She looks outside at the stars for a moment. "You might call this Betazoid intuition, or a woman's mutterings but there is something that is just off feeling about the mission. I think that a telepath is badly needed on the party and I think I'm the only one who would have no other purpose than to see to our safety." She sighs and listens. "What do I bring to the mission? I have language skills, credits in xeno-psych, emergency medical credits from the academy and I play a mean hand of poker. I know how to drink and serve cardassian drinks, I am skilled at body language, passive empathy and diplomacy. May the Goddess watch over us, but if we are caught, someone who can talk us out of trouble would be much better than to have our cover exposed." She leaned back and crossed her ankles again looking out the window. "I know that we don't truly know each other yet, and that you seem to prefer older officers, but I am an asset Captain and as we work together I hope that I can show you so through exemplary service. Also," Ellie paused for a moment, "You want your Counselor to be able to communicate telepathically Sir. And I'm reasonably certain that I can with you." She closed her mouth and then showed her cheeky side, ::Can't I?:: A soft smile played at her lips. She was young, she had attitude, but she was also good if unconventional. (reply T'Vhor) (posted by melkitty) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 14:13) The Counsellor was nothing if not insistent, that much was for sure, and the Captain suddenly found himself on the wrong end of a virtual ear-bashing in regards that insistence. It went without saying that Betazoids were often impassioned and forthright, after all the Captain had that aspect to his psyche also, so he more than anyone should know that. "You might call this Betazoid intuition, or a woman's mutterings", began Caras, "but there is something that is just off feeling about the mission.", she added, only to go on to state, yes actually state that she felt that the safety of the away team was more or less dependant upon her, whilst then intonating to the Captain why he would be mad not to take her along! The Captain could only do what those with Vulcan blood invariably did in the presense of insistent women. He listened, and raised an eyebrow in all the right places. Especially at the point where Caras said that he actually preferred to work with older officers! That was not the case of course, as far as the Captain was concerned age had little to do with ability. Indeed, he had seen many children on Vulcan outperform veteran Starfleet officers at tasks that others considered them entirely unsuited to. Nevertheless, he allowed the Counsellor to continue selling herself to him, right up until the point of a burst of telepathic contact that seemed to bely a certain coquettish cheekyness in her manner. It was at that point that he put up his hand to stop her. "Counsellor. You may go", he said, sharply. (Reply Caras) T'Vhor shook his head slightly at the Counsellors misunderstanding, and then he made it perfectly clear to her. "I did not mean that you were dismissed. I meant that you may be a part of the away team as requested", he added. The Counsellor seemingly relaxing then at the realization that she had indeed misunderstood the Captains remark, a smile playing upon her face once again. The Captain then settled back into his seat and sighed. "Now, you are dismissed"... (Reply Caras) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - COUNS, Ensign Elani Caras - 14:18) Elani had been continuing to sell herself, passionate and young. So when the Captain brought her up short she shut her mouth and looked at him slightly unhappy. So she wasn't going to get to go. She made to get up and then he explained. Her smile widened and she nodded, "Thank you Captain, I hope to be an asset to your team." Then he did indeed dismiss her. She managed to make it into the turbolift alone before cheering a happy 'Yeah!'. And with that the young Counsellor took herself to Sickbay for her makeover, with a skip in her step. Harrison turned his head and nodded, “Yes. It was.” "Then would you be so good as to let him know that I need to speak to him on an unrelated matter when he has finished speaking to you." Smiling, Harrison replied, “I will. That’s not a problem.” Nodding her head, Vren smiled. I'll let you know when I am free for coffee later Mr Walker." “I look forward to it.” He replied and watched as she walked away from him. ~What are you doing?~ he thought to himself as he lay waiting for Mckenzie to arrive. ~You are not normally like this with women. It’s the bump on the head. Must be.~ (Reply Mckenzie, Any) (Posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Spectre - Deck Nine, Corridor - ACSO, Lt (Junior Grade) Kenneth McKenzie - 12:22) After the decompression scare, Kenny had left Vren and the other medical staff to attend to the wounded man while he took the long way out of the deck. Although the computer said there was not any life signs on the deck, he was a very old fashioned person and would prefer to ensure with his own eyes that no one was left on the deck. We walked down the deck, heading for the Jeffries tube at the far end, shouting: “Evacuate the deck. It’s decompressing!” He was not sure if there was anyone around to hear him, but it didn’t take long to open a few doors and check the odd room, before he left the deck via the tube. He headed to a science department to do some work and converse with fellow crew members about the situation for over an hour when his COMM badge chirped. =/\=“ Walker to McKenzie.”=/\= “McKenzie here.” =/\=“Could you come to sickbay, sir? "McKenzie to see Walker." He said. The nurse nodded at pointed to walker at the other end of the room. Kenny nodded his thanks to the nurse and approached Walker. "Ensign, you wished to see me?" He asked, standing at attention with his hands clasped behind his back. (Reply Ensign Harrison Walker) (Posted by Gavin Work) (USS Spectre - Sick Bay - CPO, Nurse Douwsy - 12:35) . "McKenzie to see Walker." Douwsy looked up from the patient she was treating. She nodded and pointed to where Walker lying on the bio-bed at the far corner of the room. She watched as the Mckenzie headed off down the ward before looking back at her patient. “How are you feeling now? That should kick in a few seconds okay.” Her patient nodded as she watched the pain that had been etched on his face begin to dissolve. “Okay you just rest for a bit and take it easy. Try not to over due it.” She smiled and tapped in a couple of command into the patients PADD before continuing her round. She came to the end of the ward where she heard Mckenzie and Walker talking “Well, I was hoping you could help me. I need to work this trail back and see if we can track down anything that will help find this guy. It’s a little personal for me at the moment.” ~What’s he doing. He will over do it if he is not careful~ She stepped up to the bio-bed. She smiled and nodded to Mckenzie and Walker “Lieutenant, Ensign.” She then looked totally at Walker “Now Ensign I need you to lie back on to the bio-bed. You need to take it easy and not over do it.” (Reply Walker) (ReplyWalker, Mckenzie, any) (Posted By Robbie) (USS Spectre – Sickbay – TAC/ASC, Ensign JG Harrison Walker – 12:36) "Ensign, you wished to see me?" said a voice to his left. Turning his head, Harrison saw the tall, dark haired science officer he had called and nodded. “Yes, Sir. I’m in need of your help.” (Reply Mckenzie) Pulling himself up into a sitting position, Harrison picked up his PADD and said, “Well, I was working on tracing our saboteur before I ended up in here. I think I’m onto something but I’m not a computer expert.” (Reply Mckenzie) “Well, I was hoping you could help me. I’m in need of your help." Said Walker as he pulled himself up so he could sit on the bio bed. Kenny noted that it appeared to require more effort than would normally be needed. He then pick up a PADD from behind him and continued: "Well, I was working on tracing our saboteur before I ended up in here. I think I’m onto something but I’m not a computer expert." "And what did you find out so far?" Kenny asked, moving closer to Walker so he could look over his PADD. “Well, I was hoping you could help me. I need to work this trail back and see if we can track down anything that will help find this guy. It’s a little personal for me at the moment.” The word 'personal' gave slight concerns to Kenny. He hoped that Walker would not compromise his duties because of it, though Kenny just nodded in response. As he was thinking this, The nurse who Kenny had announced himself to walked over. "Lieutenant, Ensign." She said, Kenny nodded in response. She turned to Walker. "Now Ensign I need you to lie back on to the bio-bed. You need to take it easy and not over do it." Walker smiled at her. "I’m not overdoing it. Infact, Lieutenant Mckenzie here will be doing most of the work." "I...will be?" Kenny asked, looking at Walker and rising and eye brow. Walker lay back on the bio-bed. "Is this better?" he asked, turning to the nurse. "Much better thank you." she replied. For the next few minutes, the nurse started to ask Walker how he was feeling and if there was anything she could do for him. During this, Kenny picked up the data PADD and looked over it. After the nurse was finish, Kenny turned to Walker. "I'm afraid I only understand some of this. Could you give me a short brief of what happened to you and exactly how you were tracking the suspect?" NRPG: Remember, Jackie and Marilyn, Kenny does not know that Vren wants to see him, so someone will have to mention this in post. After all no one expected a female saboteur, security's thought was that it was a male ensign. They had no idea that she was a marine combat engineer. Well she had been one until Starfleet Intelligence had recruited her. Specifically one of the highest ranking in the Fleet. No one knew that this particular Admiral had supported the other side of the civil war. The losing side. And he hadn't been caught like many of the others had. Most of them that is. And no one had seen that this quiet shy trill woman who now worked in Ops with the reputation of calm, stoic efficiency was anything other than what she seemed. They called it deep cover for a reason. She let herself in to the core, using a stolen identity, wearing a small device on her belt that would tell the computer that she was the male security officer that the id was tied to. When the panel slid shut, she slipped an isolinier chip into the terminal that would loop the security to 5 seconds before she arrived and 10 seconds after. And so the saboteur sat down at a computer terminal and began to work. Her traps were laid within minutes and she let herself out. (1630) Two hours later the warp engine began to slowly overheat. Twenty minutes later the alarms began to scream in the engineering later. And a certain Trill Lieutenant Commander on Deck 5 tried to hide the smile that was forming. (reply engineering, security, etc) (posted by Mel) (USS Spectre - Bridge - OPS, Ensign (Jg) Robert Smith - 16:24) Robert had been watching Kirien out the corner of his eye as he was working at his console. Things were becoming more confusing by the minute. It looked like that Kirien was having a telepathic conversation to some one. He just hoped that it was a good one as he had heard gossip that the Doctor had been taken to sickbay numerous times with head problems ~I hope she dose not pop something up there and go nuts. That’s just what we need~ He watched as she turned to the officer of the watch and spoke "I vouch for Dr. Mias. If he is to be believed, he bounced me on his knee and fed me a bottle." ~Ow that’s not something to say in public. That’s going to go round the ship in no time~ "On the Nimitz he held a rank similar to mine. He is who he says he is, I assure you." ~I just hope that you are right~ He looked back at the console as it flashed information at him. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering – NPC Ensign Katarinna Blake – 16:30) Ensign Katarinna Blake had just started her tour of duty, assigned to a major starship's engineering crew was quite the feather in the cap of the young Ensign. Like most she worked hard, studied harder, barely socialized and was running on sleep deprivation and caffeine poisoning to give her more hours to study. She'd found herself nodding off at the console, and since her terminal was in a hardly used area of the ship, and her job so routine and boring because nothing ever happened and nothing ever would it was so hard to stay awake. They'd all been briefed about a possible saboteur on board, but Kat had tuned out the briefing to study diagrams of the manifolds in order to participate in a maintenance procedure later in her shift. She had to get it right, and get it right the first time. And so as she napped, the claxon screaming above her head woke her up as people started shouting and the engineering hub turned into a busy hive of people scurrying about to try and bring the temperature in the warp core down. They couldn't eject the core, not and maintain the cloak. They couldn't eject the core at all, it would give away their presence, and as worried as some people were, at least that's what the scuttlebutt said, they wouldn't be able to get away. Someone screamed at her, why hadn't she noticed this? She didn't answer, now quite awake as she typed very fast into the controls, which should bring the temperature down. The computer beeped angerifully at her, then her terminal shut down. As each person in engineering tried to cool the core, strange things began to happen. Some shut down, some exploded. Others played a cartoon from earth with dancing magical ponies. Unfortunately for Ensign Blake the replacement terminal exploded, launching her across the bay, where she thudded on landing, the facial laceration proclaiming her death before anyone had a chance to check. And around the engineering crew, the lights dimmed and the claxons grew louder, only adding to the chaos. (mwahaha reply people!) (posted by Mel) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering – NPC Engineering Ensign Jake Haltom – 16:31) Jake was on the second level taking phase variance readings from the intermix chamber when all hell broke loose in engineering. He didn't see the exploding console though the resounding 'BaWhaam!' caused him to jump several feet away from the edge of the mezanine and the reactor interface he was monitoring. When the klaxon and lights began their belated warning he froze for a good three heartbeats before sprinting toward the stair that would take him to main deck level. It was chaos of course, a smoking console with unmoving engineer thrown across the room to rest against another console. ~I hardly knew her, hope she's all right~ went through his head as he jumped over to the primary control panel where yet another crewman was helplessly trying to gain control. "Situation report." he snapped to the non-com. "I can't access the control interface!" the woman replied. One glance proved just how right she was, the display was itself scrambled and covered with garbled characters. "Damn!" He turned and sprinted to the backup interface panel on the warp drive housing and pulled out a magnetic interlink from a pocket of his coveralls which he than placed against the lock and initiated. The lock released with a click. With the interface thus exposed he activated the engineering tricorder he had been using to monitor the phase variance readings, pushed three buttons on the interface to activate it then synced the tricorder to the data stream. What he saw was not encouraging, the temperature in the warp core had risen to nearly three thousand degrees, 30 percent over the safe zone and was climbing quickly to a dangerous condition. Venting warp core coolant to relieve some of the coolant pressure (And pressure is proportional to temperature at the high end) was a short term alternative at best and might buy them a little time but wouldn't alleviate the problem completely. Something had been done to the coolant controls and that would have to be rectified or the warp core would have to be jettisoned. He tapped his combadge. =^=Operations This is Ensign Haltom in engineering, we are locked out of the controls for the warp coolant and inner core temp is climbing fast, I need control down here! Get to work on the primary computer protocols please! We are in need of your assistance.=^= (Reply: Ops) That done he tapped it again. =^= Chief K'Tell, Engineering. Warp core temp is rising, currently at 32 percent over safe margins. Permission to begin venting coolant to lower the temperature sir! I estimate it will give us ten to fifteen minutes to get things under control, operations is working to reestablish control sir while we handle things in main engineering.=^= (Reply: K'Tell RFM) After finishing with the chief engineering officer he tapped his combadge and worked while he used the manual override to vent off some of the warp coolant pressure. If this didn't work the chief engineer's displeasure would be the least of his concerns. =^= Sickbay we have an emergency in main engineering, send down a team at once! We have a crewman down, repeat we have a crewman down. send a team immediately.=^= (Reply:Sickbay, any) (posted by Charles) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering – CPO, Engineer Wai Biign – 16:32) Wai paused for a split second as all hell broke loose in engineering. The klaxons screamed lights dimmed, people shouted and cried out. She over at Ensign Blake who had been nodding off at her console. “Ensign Blake wake the hell up.” She ducked as a console behind her exploded. ~Ow hell what is happening here~ Suddenly the console in front of Blake exploded sending her across the room and landing hard on the floor. ~Ow shit~ “Ensign.” She leaned across the room side stepping a crewman before crouching down beside Blake. “No, No,No.” “Medical Emergency, Medical Emergency. Casualties in Main engineering. Medical Teams to main engineering. Sickbay Respond.” (Reply Sickbay) She grabbed out her tricorder and scanned Blake. ~Come on, come on~ The life signs on the tricorder was flat lined. She remembered what her emergency medical instructor had said. ‘They are not dead unless a doctor said they were dead’ “Ow no you don’t.” She began cardio pulmonary resuscitation and prayed that the medical team would get here soon. It was affecting the whole power grid through out the ship. He needed to dump the exes’ power that was causing the overloads from the warp core or the power surges will start to cause damage through out the ship. “Sir. Warp is going ballistic. We are having massive power surges in engineering and its starting to spread across the ship. I am trying to divert the power surges but if it can’t be stopped by engineering we are going to have a lot of damage.” (Reply Any on the bridge) He turned back to his console and began trying to dump the extra power where is would to the least damage. =^=Operations This is Ensign Haltom in engineering, we are locked out of the controls for the warp coolant and inner core temp is climbing fast, I need control down here! She had been looking at the passive sensor data, looking at what star ships were in the system and what sensor were in the orbit with them. As soon as she heard Roberts report she began to lay in a course that would bring the ship into a sensor blind spot just in case they lost the cloaking device. “Sir I have plotted in a course that will hide us in a sensor blind spot. "You got that right. I'm glad you're here, I need someone to monitor the coolant pressure while I bring it down, too far and the warp engines will destabilize and explode. You mind lending a hand?" “Ready.” Jake threw him a grin which looked more like a grimace and handed him the tricorder which he had hard-wired into the manual override so he would have real time data. With the main controls down it was a decent cobble and the only thing he had at hand to work with. "I've set it to vent through the nacelles but verify the main circuit for me would ya" He had been rushing and didn't mind having someone to do a double check and it wouldn't take more than a few seconds while he locked down the control here. (Reply Smith) And then it was done, everything was set and verified. Jake took a deep breath and let it out. "All right here we go." He grasped the handle and inched it forward, venting the coolant slowly. "Don't let me go below 2100 bar.If the drop begins accelerating notify me instantly." (Reply: Smith) A red indicator began blinking and He cursed and pulled the handle back. "Damn it, automatic venting shutdown has activated. What the hell!" He turned wild eyes to Ensign Smith. "I had it shut off, you're going to have to use the manual override on it." He nodded to a small node nearby which he had opened earlier. "Hit that button and hold it down so it doesn't reset and keep your eyes on that readout." He wasn't normally in a position to give orders and hated snapping at Ensign Smith like that but sometimes someone has to take charge. (Reply: Smith) The shutdown indicator blinked off. "That got it, venting." He eased back into the handle, every sense on high alert for updates from the other officer. (Reply: Smith) (posted by Charles) (Amleth, Amparus, Corvus District - CSO lt. jg. He looked up and raised an eyebrow in hopes of bringing the woman's face back into focus. ~Ill be in deep --- if the Captian shows up~ His attention had drifted up, for no reason, but his attention was grabbed once again by his colleague. “Fancy something else?" Kanar really was a drink that took some getting used to. She wondered what else the bar man might have. It wouldn’t be too far out to ask for some trixian bubble juice or something slightly less sickly to wash down the viscous Kanar. Ilana watched with a moments worry as she saw the Ell Tee bump into a military officer, the problem with Cardassian culture was that historically the military had always been seen as social superiors. She scanned the bar, there were a few military personal here, just by bad luck Kurt had bumped into one. She bit her lower lip as it seemed that Kurt managed to pass himself off as just a Cardassian who had had a few too many. “You ok? Want a non-alcoholic drink?” She asked as he returned to their point in the bar. She looked at him with a little bit of concern in her eyes her trick might have put him in a small amount of peril. It appeard that the apology was accepted by the uniformed officer and the man left Kurt alone. "I'll be fine in a moment" Kurt replied Ilana called over one of the barpersons and asked for a couple of glasses of bubble juice. It was a light carbonated beverage it would probably help Kurt flush through the Anti-oxidant. She passed one of the glasses to Kurt and took a long sip, the tangy bubbly nature of the juice was almost similar to drinking sherbet, she winced as she got over the interesting sensation. “Any better she asked?” (Reply Palmer) (Posted by Jo) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering – Engineering Officer, Ensign Scott Smith – 16:40) "You got that right. Riven had made contact with the away team and Elani had been handling things with the Captain. However the sudden red alert claxon that was sounding had her jumping nearly two feet in the air. And then she heard the various reports from Engineering. She ducked under a bio bed and grabbed a bag. "I'm coming too Nurse." She jogged beside the others boiling out of Sickbay like a flock of angry bees. Someone had threatened her people and she was going to help. When they reached sickbay, that scene was utterly chaotic. She stepped back and watched for a minute. Someone else was dealing with the worst of the casualties, an ensign who looked like she had died. But Michaella couldn't pause to mourn the nameless Ensign that no one seemed to know. Instead she turned to the first engineer she saw with shrapnel lacerations so she moved over to him. "Shh keep working, I can work around you guys." She cleaned the wound, then sealed it with one of the medical gadgets. Lastly she pressed a hypo to his heart. It was a mix of a stimulant with a mild pain killer and the combination would help him stay sharp during the emergency. "After your shift, go and sleep. You'll need to before the stimulant wears off." The Lt nodded to her as he was working and so Michaella drifted along, listening to the chaos, stopping at someone who had a wrist fracture, and not a minor one. She turned and looked for another Doctor. She wasn't exactly the most knowledgeable person about orthopedics. "Sir?" She waved one of the other Doctors down, "Her wrist is broken in 4 different places and I'm not sure how to treat it." Only then did Michaella reach out for Riven's mind. ::Tell the Captain some sort of a coolant leak is going on in the warp core and they are venting coolant.:: Michaellla then turned and went right back to work, treating the minor wounds, leaving the vast majority to those who needed the most attention leaving the hardest of these to the more experienced Doctors. Se worked slowly, steadily and methodically through the the next 30 minutes as the crew was counting on the maintenance guys in Ops doing their job and repairing the controls. Commander Kilya Joltrue – 16:42) Kilya had her tools spread out around her as she worked, kneeling on the deck next to one of the control panels of the transporter room, repairing the fused isolinier chips that one of her 'surprises' had caused. Having her hands on one of her surprises gave her quite a feeling of accomplishment. She glowed with pride at the destruction that her work had caused. She even found herself singing quietly along with a klingon lullaby that her symbiont knew. Part of her knew that the person she had been before wouldn't have done the things that she had done. It was possible for a symbiont to go bad to go insane and the caretakers generally removed them. But no one had traced any of the things that she had done back to her, not even in her previous lifetimes. No one tended to bother her as she took first choice of the queue of repairs. There were always repairs needed on a starship, it was the nature of the beast. Ships in motion broke. It was why they carried a gigantic replicator whose only purpose was to replicate the gigantic parts whole cloth. But from here she could monitor what was going on in engineering, a grin on her lips as she watched. Combat Engineers were designed to do exactly what she was doing. Infiltrate and Destroy and do it without being detected. This was significantly harder since her Handlers didn't exactly want the ship destroyed. They wanted damage to slow down the mission and they wanted exposure to embarrass the Federation and possibly start a war. Why she wasn't sure. Once she had finished her objectives she would fade back into the background of the ship, just another joined trill, just another ops officer - one that had the reputation of shy and quiet but efficient and methodical. Satisfied with the mischief she had wrought, and even more satisfied that this time the plan would be a success she closed up the panel and began to put her tools away. Within a few moments a security officer poked his head in. "Forgive me Sir, we are searching the entire ship." The young human male spoke. Joltrue froze and then nodded, "I just finished up with the repairs here. Is the replicator in Security still on the fritz?" The trill woman smiled. "Ah yes Sir. We have to go down the hall for a decent raktajino." Joltrue grabbed her equipment case and smiled again, "I have about thirty minutes before the end of my shift so lets go take a look at it. I can't test the transporter until we are decloaked. I was wondering though, do you know whats going on and why we have a red alert?" The security officer shook his head and left her at the door to the security complex. "Ah no Sir, but the rumor is something is wrong with engineering." "Oh," The trill spoke in concern, "I hope nothing serious. I'll be disappointed if I can't make my leave next month." The human laughed and Joltrue let herself inside. Time to place another trap in the realm of 'fixing' something. She had to be careful though, if she placed too many it would be easy to trace back to her. That was why she hadn't placed one in the transporter room but was planning to in Security. Another little hum and she settled down to work. Douwsy put them where they were needed. “Bernadette, Marshal, Harriet and Kevin get bed one and two ready for emergency cases and take the crash trolley with you.” She looked over at two nurses who had just entered through the opening doors. “Julian, Irena you both have the walking wounded give a shout if you get swamped.” She turned to the two members of the staff that were on theatre duty. “Scotty and Jaclyn get to the operating theatre and get it ready for a emergency surgery. I guess we are getting anything from multiple traumas to burns and massive internal injury. You know the drill. I will give as much heads up as I can so that you can get ready.” Douwsy scanned the controlled chaos around her as her staff moved with dedicated purpose. She nodded to herself with satisfaction that they were doing everything that was needed with out any more prompting. ~All we need are the patients~ The sickbay doors opened as the first patients were brought in. “In coming wounded, In coming wounded.” Came the call from the corridor “Right people lets do this.” She took a deep breath to steady her racing heart and get her self calm and steady. Jake pulled back till the handle was barely cracked. "2140, 2130..." At 2100 bar he closed the control and locked it in then leaned back with a relieved sigh then looked over at Scott. "Well done my friend." Jake wiped sweat from his forehead which he hadn't noticed before and a copious amount at that then smiled. “Well that was fun. Shall we do it again?” Jake shook his head. "We're at minimum reactor coolant now, if we have to do it again we'll be ejecting the warp core and I HOPE it doesn't come to that." “How long have we bought out selves be fore we have to do it again do you think? Jake took the tricorder back and looked at the reactor temp and coolant pressure and could see the core temperature was already rising albeit more slowly than before. "Hopefully never but we've just bought ourselves another eighteen minutes." He sighed and shook his head, "That should give us time to find the bug at the root of this problem and eradicate it." A worried look came over Ensign Smith's face. “Do you think that would have affected the cloaking device all the venting being pumped through the nacelles? Do you think we may have been spotted?” Jake snorted and shook his head. "Nah! Any vented fluid will be a small amount and due to gas expansion the molecules will also be relatively small. "We are looking for a person", There was another short pause of he chose his words like footsteps through a minefield. He watched as the person walk up to the table there was a few words passed and then the blond haired man slapped the table in the pretence of killing a bug but Noah distinctively heard ‘Gerald’ and ‘Star Fleet Intelligence’ ~What are these people playing at! Is it armature hour or what!~ He kept walked casually towards the far side of the bar as he was about to reach the far end when he heard the blond haired man say. “I think I’ll leave you three to discuss this alone I need to visit the old man’s room.” ~He maybe, He maybe not better keep an eye on him~ Noah kept walking and stepped through the door to the toilet. He quickly found a cubical at the far end and locked the door behind him. ~Now I need to wait and see~ (Reply Civilian Lothernan Pessoj any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering – Engineering Officer, Ensign Jake Haltom - 16:50) It took only a moment to check the coolant levels, Jake also did a quick eyeball in a panel on the bulkhead close to the warp core where the circuitry for the main coolant control loop was located, some of the isolinear chips had been cracked by the overload and would have to be replaced, the rest of the circuitry appeared to be intact. There were also two backup failsafes located in nearby nodes and the tricorder verified they were still functional though locked shut which blocked both incoming coolant and outgoing super heated plasma. In order to get the circuitry to doing its accustomed job they were either going to have to get a command/control panel working here in engineering or.... ~Well let's see what Ensign Smith has found shall we?~ Turning he hot-footed it over to where the man was crawling out from under one of the damaged panels. “Ensign Haltom. This one is a no go. We will have to re-route round it.” "Damn! I'm going to have to get some iso chips for the main circuitry. Was there anything in there salvageable?" (Reply:Smith iyw} "All right no prob, I can grab some spares double time." Ensign Smith stepped to another console and turned to look at Jake.“Hey call me Scott this is not exactly the time to keep doing the ensign stuff especially at the moment.” "And I'm Jake, we'll shake hands and grab a glass of synthehol later and talk about our academy days." Jake managed a quick grin. "Right now I've got a better idea since we're up against a brick wall with command/control down here." He tapped his combadge. "Requisitions this is Ensign Jake Haltom in engineering" =^=Go ahead Ensign Haltom. What can I do for you?=^= "I need a spare control panel and three 60 foot sections of iso cable and five isolinear chips beamed directly to my location and I need them in a hurry" =^= Ensign Smith you should know the drill, I'm going to need authorization from your commanding officer in order to do this.=^= "Damn it man!" He all but shouted, biting off other words that would have been highly unprofessional. " In case you haven't noticed we're in an emergency situation here. The chief is stomping out fires elsewhere and I don't have time for your BS! We need those materials quickly and I mean like now or we're going to be sitting ducks for every Cardassian ship in the quadrant!" There was a momentary pause on the other end. =^= It's highly irregular.=^= "So is losing control to the warp reactor core coolant loop with a complete freeze out from fried consoles..."He bit off ~You complete moron.~ A sigh followed by another short pause. =^= I'll authorize it this time but you need to have Chief K'Tell send us up an authorization list at his earliest possible convenience. I'll have it down to you in ten minutes.=^= " I don't have ten minutes." Jake fumed. "Make it five or be prepared to see time in a Cardassian gulag if you even survive that long." =^= All right five but be warned I'm going to report your attitude to my superiors.=^= "Hell you can hand deliver it to the president of the Federation for all I care, just get me those materials down STAT!" It was nearly impossible to keep from shouting but he somehow managed. "You can have it in two if you actually try!" =^= All right then I'm grabbing the equipment myself. Expect it in about three. Requisitions out.=^= He could feel the heat on his face and knew he was practically glowing red from the fury he was feeling but he didn't care. "Forget those smoking panels Scott, we're going to use the one they send to tie directly into the coolant circuitry. Once we have the control lines hooked up we can pop in the new chips and power up the circuit then fine tune the parameters at the panel. We'll be safe since the backup valves are powered down right now and we won't get any power through the main till we replace the iso chips." (Reply: Scott) "Yeah we'll replace these consoles later, they're ruined. At least by using the replacement we'll be able to get around the command/control freeze out we currently have down here as well. And if something else like that happens the coolant loop will be entirely separate, we should't have this problem again." (Reply: Scott) It seemed like ages before the whine of the transporter, Jake had placed a small transducer in the spot central to the three nodes, there would be some cabling for everyone to step over but oh well, Stuff happens! When the console and rolls of cabling had appeared Jake grabbed a roll as he pulled a fusing tool from his pocket, he scanned the console and noted the chips were stacked neatly on top. "If you'll work on getting these cables hooked up to the panel I'll stretch them out and hook them into the nodes. Sound like a plan?" (Reply: Scott) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - COUNS Elani Caras - 16:50) Elani had received a telepathic report from Michaella who was ... on the bridge? The young Betazoid shook her head as her and her security officer entered the bar. She had been following a hunch and was therefore quite a bit later than the others. Her eyes scanned the place automatically and she nearly cursed before dampening down any perceptions that might escape and alert the Cardassians. She sighed and moved up to the bar easily recognizing the gentleman that Michaella had mentioned being that he wasn't in disguise. Michaella's message had hinted at something between the two of them, something that Elani was quite curious about. But if she hadn't seen the deep eyes of this man, or the loose stark hair that wisped free from the hood here or there, she would have seen him halfway across the city. The man was powerful. Ridiculously powerful. She was a freight train, he was a scalpel and she knew, KNEW that he could tell exactly what she was thinking and somehow the young Betazoid didn't seem to mind. So if it wasn't that she had a duty to her people, and perhaps her intuition had come from the other Betazoids worried about him, she certainly had one to Starfleet to extract this man from the cluster of Starfleet Officers that nearly swarmed him. They were as about as unsubtle as a bell. She took a few steps forward to catch his eyes and smiled, her mind reaching for his. :: I'm Ellie Caras, the Counsellor aboard the Spectre. I see you've met the Captain.:: Her thoughts brushed the Captain's mind for a second in an informal hello, letting him know that she was there at his back. ::If you are about done with him, how about we,?:: And her thoughts darkened slightly. ::Dance? It'll get you out of this web of testosterone Starfleet arrogance. They will blow their cover if they don't tone it down some.:: What else could she say and so she shrugs slightly. ::My dear friend Michaella sent me. She uh. Has made her intentions rather clear about you.:: A soft laugh as she touched the Captain on the arm. "Sir, you had best tell them to disburse or you will have the authorities here. The others are..slightly suspicious." She murmered that into her Captain's ear as she places a handful of latinum on the table, "To cover our tab, barkeep. I'll have one of whatever the men are having." That had been the first rule of the unofficial intelligence briefing she had been given in the Academy. I am in the mood for a dance and have acquired a partner.” Loth looked a little surprised, but shrugged, while the Betazoid was probably age wise his senior he often felt as he did with many people almost grandfatherly well maybe not grandfatherly but at least distant mostly disapproved of uncle who would give ‘the children’ sweets late in the evening, ‘tell them the truth about things,’ that their parents wouldn’t. He looked at Riven and tried to project the thought ::A dance partner?:: he couldn’t be sure if the Betazoid heard him, after all Loth had made his views on telepaths quite clear. “Sure, what do you fancy a slow number or a more upbeat tempo?” He asked with a sly grin, the Romulan ale was still sloshing around his head but the day he couldn’t play a tune was the day he would start carving out his own epitaph. (reply Riven) Loth nodded and made his way towards the small stage, it appeared for the first time in all the years he had been on Amleth that people were starting to appreciate his music. “Thank you.” Riven said patting him on the shoulder As Riven moved away Loth began to play the requested music. (Reply Riven, Any) (Posted By Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACouns Dr. Riven Mias - 16:52) After a bit of give and take it appeared he had allayed T’Vor’s suspicions which gave Riven a feeling of satisfaction. Truth be told he was looking for a bit of adventure after spending the last few years holed up in the temple where the routine seldom varied unless there was a client who was in such dire straits that the conclave of junior mind healers could not handle their case. Since that didn’t happen very often he spent too much time in meditation/relaxation mode when he wasn’t walking for exercise or playing for the joy of it. His last time on a ship had ended in a spectacular failure which wasn’t his fault, when someone didn’t really want to be helped there really wasn’t much that could be done. Baylon Trinin had shut him out after the death of Captain Sash due to misplaced guilt for not being able to save him and Dr. Trommashere… well she was one of those so entrenched in depression that it had become an extension of her life and no amount of counseling or delving into her non-telepathic mind could “fix” what ailed her. As he had told Loth at their meeting, forcibly changing someone’s internal mental make-up was not an option to one who had undergone the training and taken such oaths as he had. He was no sooner leaning back with a smile when he felt as well as heard yet another of the Spectre’s officers enter the now nearly full tavern. Felt since she was a telepath and her mind was unmistakable since he had discoursed with her earlier via contact. Elani had proven to be refreshing; a young, vibrant and strong mind such as hers always was a pleasure to discourse with. She also seemed to have a refreshing naiveté and charm that was counter balanced by rigorous training and professionalism. His empathic sense caught her mood as he turned his face to watch her enter and though he did not forcibly intrude upon her thoughts it was not uncommon for one who embodied the power which he wielded to catch the surface thoughts of a telepath who was not hiding their thoughts behind mental shielding. He noted her immediate recognition as well as concern for the well-being of the officers present and a … curiosity about him that was not well hidden. She stepped toward him and contacted him with the ease of the well-practiced. :: I'm Ellie Caras, the Counsellor aboard the Spectre. It'll get you out of this web of testosterone Starfleet arrogance. They will blow their cover if they don't tone it down some:: Her shrug seemed out of place and stiff . ::My dear friend Michaella sent me. She uh. Catching his ‘old friend’ be the arm gently he asked. “Would it be an inconvenience if I asked you for a tune Loth? It was a very sophisticated virus and he was getting blocked at every turn. “Come, Come, Come. We don’t have time.” He muttered to himself as he picked up his PADD again scanned down the different virus killers that he had available to him which he had been working on and designing since he was at the academy. There was not a virus that he had not been able to kill and a main frame he had not been able to get into. ~This is not good~ He sighed rolled the kinks out of his shoulders. “Right then lets kill this sucker.” He linked his PADD back into the main computer system. Michaella's memories had said some things very clearly. One of those was that this man had the ability to dance. She was looking forward to this. ::I attended one of your lectures when I was at University.:: She spoke to him As Loth began playing another from his vast repertoire of woodwind tunes Riven smiled and took one hand while his left slid behind her back. ::I am flattered you remember. I haven't done a lecture there in quite a while since the council 'retired' me from my exhausting daily duties.:: A note of bitterness came with that memory, if only they had known how he would come to despise his 'promotion' would it have made a difference? Most assuredly not as he had talked with them on the matter of returning to daily practice a number of times since then. Their 'concern' for his welfare smacked of politicism, perhaps because he had made being involved in StarFleet matters a part of his routine. Her mind slid in behind and under his as her body molded itself to his. The way his palm burned against her back through the civilian clothing was thicker than she was used to. ::Why so resentful?:: She asked, the lenses turning her typical dark brown eyes cat yellow. A little smile tinged her lips, ::You are here, you are out, you are among friends. You have adventures. And maybe, just maybe you can tutor me?:: As they began to flow smoothly with the music his mood lightened once more and that mischievous glint returned to his eyes beneath the hood he wore which he now found confining so with a couple of jerks of his head he dislodged it allowing his long white hair to spill down his back, the silver charms and chimes woven into it tinkling softly. After all he was not here to pose as a Cardassian and his 'disguise' wasn't needed since he had become just another oboe player in the minds of the crowd. What it must look like though, a Human/Betazoid (If any could tell the difference) dancing with a Cardassian female. ::You are right of course and tutor you?:: That brought a chuckle of delight from him. ::Your CO would have something to say about that I'm sure but I would enjoy the opportunity. I haven't done any teaching in quite a while:: The young Betazoid laughed softly as her body molded against his. She didn't think about the fact that all the eyes were on her. In truth she had hoped that they would be. This kept the attention firmly on her and not on the Starfleet officers who were doing not so great a job blending into the bar scene. ::I well. Not that way!:: A slight flush. ::At least Michaella has indicated that she is very interested in you, you could be my grandfather.:: A light teasing as she realized that he was about to dip her, her legs locking as he swept her back. Her tight brown Cardassian girl's curls wouldn't move on their own, and her dark brown turned cat’s eye yellow eyes met his in utter delight. :: I once met a Captain who said I had the seeds to be a good mind healer.:: ::She told me to run away from Starfleet as it would ruin my life.:: Elani sighed quietly, :: She had the most remarkable red hair.:: There weren't many red haired Betazoid Captain mind healers in Starfleet and the girl had indicated that she enjoyed the conversation so it was almost certainly not Eva. ::If you could teach me that is.:: She teased him, before sobering a moment. :: Michaella’s been having headaches. Sickbay has been treating the symptoms but they don't know the cause. I put a call in to the Embassy, to see if they would know since she's so unusual. I hadn't heard anything back before we dropped out of communication range. Maybe,:: the young girl sighed, :: Maybe you will be able to help her?:: Elani's eyes slid to the Captains and she nearly sighed again. ::Of course.:: He brought her up and spun her to arm’s length before reeling her back in smoothly. ::I’d be happy to help as soon as I get off this dust ball.:: The news Michaella might have some romantic inclinations was certainly new to him, he’d never received any inclination of it from her before. ::You must mean the Captain of the Mystique, Vanyssa Winter’s of course, she was very outspoken on that. I served under her for a while. A brilliant pupil and a strong telepath who I tutored. So much potential, had she not gone into StarFleet she would have been of great benefit to the temple.:: ~That is of course if she had been more outgoing and less critical of others~ This thought he kept to himself. Elani's smile widened as they danced. ::There is never an of course with telepaths Dr. Mias. Especially not those of us who are different.:: She settled on that word in a brief pause. :: It's more of a calling than a job, I suppose.:: She laughed again, a joyful silvery laugh that was echoed telepathically for his ears only as her feet matched his perfectly. :: Are you skilled in the meditation techniques of the Temple by chance?:: Hope in her tone as she looked up at him, and him alone. :: That is true, it’s not a vocation for everyone.:: He grinned as he drew her in close once more. ::Believe me, meditation is not only a skill I was trained for but one which I am very practiced in.:: This time there was no bitterness to the thought. :: I have a lot of spare time to devote to it. If you would like instruction in meditation techniques I will work with you on them as long as I am aboard your ship, assuming we get there eventually.:: He was chafing for civilization again… and a change of wardrobe. Another bright smile, just for him. She inclined her head at that, catching his desire for new clothing. :: I don't like this outfit much either. Much too thick and scritchy.:: She wrinkled her nose at that. :: I think we're more sensitive than the humans to that. We do so love our luxuries.:: She couldn't help herself, reaching up to catch one of the tiny charms in her hand, quite a bit enchanted at the moment by him. He caught the glint in her eye and smiled, one of the benefits of telepathy was the bond that could be quickly formed and the resulting intimacy that went with it, a reason many other races found Betazoid mores to be so shocking. :: I can’t wait to get into a proper robe and change my sandals.:: He pulled her tight against himself, enjoying her softness in the right places before relaxing his grip in time for the grand flourish to the music, sweeping her around in his arm by one hand and ending with her bent slightly backwards with his face so close to his own he could feel her breath. :: My compliments to your dancing, you are highly accomplished.:: More so though was his enjoyment at the feel of her against him which he had to relinquish lest they draw TOO MUCH attention. She was flushed with excitement and happiness. It was rare for a sensitive Betazoid to find a place that they were at home away from the planet and the society of other telepaths. She nodded as she made her way back to the Captain, avoiding the taking of his hand as it would be a quite improper thing for a young Cardassian girl to do. She looked at T`Vhor, :: I suggest you scold me for dancing so improper with a man not my own relative.:: She didn’t glance back towards Riven, instead picked up a glass of whatever it was they were drinking and downed it in one swallow earning her a cheer or two from the onlookers. (Reply: T’Vor) Riven was smiling gaily as he walked up to Loth and shook his hand while giving him a conspiratorial wink. “Excellent work my friend, I could feel it in my soul.” He laughed at the expression on the human’s face. She continued to type commands tapping them out quickly. It took about ten minutes but she leaned back in satisfaction. "There, it's isolated to one small section of the core. What was it's cause? He is going to want to know more than that!:: Michaella was focused on the patient she was treating. ::I don't know much more than that, I'm a Doctor not an Engineer Riven. I would think that the First Officer would inform him, but it's chaotic up here.:: She allowed him to see out of her eyes as she looked around Engineering at the hellish visage spread before her. He kept from shaking his head with an exertion of will. ::Michaella engineering would not be venting coolant if there was a leak, it doesn't make sense, they would starve the reactor and destroy the ship. Who did you get this information from?:: Intense frustration, ::I'm not sure. There is talk about venting the coolant through the nacelles.:: A pause and she focused on one of the NCOs. ::He says the reactor is overheating and they can't eject it. Michaella wandered off once she was sure that her patients had all been taken care of. She was talking to someone. ::Riven, he says that they bought 18 minutes?:: She sounded slightly puzzled. ::The Captain should probably call the First Officer.:: She sounded even more confused. ::I agree.:: He nodded. ::I will tell him immediately. This sounds very serious.:: Without looking toward the Captain's table he contacted the CO. ::Captain I have received word from Michaella that there is some trouble on your ship. They are also venting coolant from the warp core due to overheating. Those are the only details I have at this time.:: Elani's eyes grew wider with fear, but she didn't project any of that. She looked around the people who were on the planet with her. And then she looked up at him, ::What do we do?:: She calmed herself with several deep breaths. ::WE? Nothing.:: He replied. ::That is up to the Captain and command crew on the ship. Don't worry.:: He projected complete calm. ::This is what those officers are trained for, they will handle it. Engineering has already given themselves some breathing room from what I've been told to get the problem resolved.:: Elani looked worried, she was after all an Ensign. But she nodded and looked towards the Captain. ::This just makes everything so much worse.:: Michaella touched Riven, ::Ops says that the command pathways are frozen from the computer core onwards, and they are working on a bypass at the moment.:: Since he was in contact with both women he merged the thought thread so that the three could converse simultaneously. ::So do they have control of the helm Michaella?:: I didn't think to ask.:: Michaella sounded slightly ashamed and so she disappeared for a few moments, ::For now. She sounded worried. She just said that they have a course plotted out to a sensor hole?:: It was obvious that while Michaella might understand bacteria and molecules and gene resequencing, she really didn't seem to understand the way a ship operated. :: Good. I've already apprised the Captain of the situation and suggested he contact his first officer:: Riven thought to them. ::If you hear anything else I suggest you let Elani know in case he is unable to contact the ship so that she can continue to keep him updated. For now I am an untested commodity to him and it would be better if he was updated by one of his officers. She can update me as well.:: A slight nod from Michaella as she faded to deal with another medical emergency. Elani looked up at Riven. ::He's a Betazoid, how can he doubt what you are? You glow.:: He was genuinely surprised by the question. ::Elani you are a StarFleet officer and should know the protocols by heart. It is called chain of command. At the moment I am a civilian in his eyes whereas you are one of his officers. The old man couldn’t help but smile, he turned to Riven “No, Thankyou, I’ve not had this much fun playing for a very very long time.” Loth grinned and raised the flute to his lips and began to play a slower tune more as background music, he could feel life surging through his body, he suspected that there was more going on than he was aware off but chose to do what he usually did in these situations which was sit back observe and wait, then make his decision. What was that old earth song? ‘Only fools rush in?” A smile crossed his lips and he switched the tune he was playing to a flute version on the song. He saw Riven give a stunned look. Noah then watched as Riven stopped his head form shaking. He was not a telepath but in his profession he was practically and expert at reading body language. There was definitely an important conversation going telepathically. Riven gave a snort before nodding He then saw Caras looked up at Riven as her eyes went eyes and then a worry expression came over her features. ~Ow this is not good~ He saw the fear grow in Caras eyes as she looked around the people who were on the planet with her. She then looked at Riven before she took several breaths to calm herself. ~What is our cover blown? Or is it a bigger problem then that?~ He kept a close eye on Caras as she still looked worried. He could see her eyes wandering around before she looked at him again and then gave a small frown. He saw Rivan give a shrugged as Caras nodded clearly to Rivan before he turned back to the sip left in his. ~It I can notice it then so can some one else~ Noah leaned forward so that only the people on the table to hear. “You need to stop having telepathic conversations here. Thanks for coming up and giving me and hand it has been really helpful.” He paused for a moment before carrying on. “Thank I appreciate the confidence ma’am.” Jolture gave him a nod and patted him on the back before she headed off the Bridge. Indeed he had been visible moved by it. Riven's suggestion that he should contact his ship struck him in two distinct ways. Firstly, he was obviously concerned as to the extent of any damage that the ship and crew had sustained from this reported coolant leak, and secondly, he knew that he could NOT contact the ship anyway. The ship was phase cloaked right now, or at least the Captain hoped that it still was. Either way, that meant that any kind of communication would be more or less ineffective whilst the cloak itself remained active. What they clearly did have though was the ability to maintain some form of contact via the innate power of the mind, which it would seem was uneffected right now by the constraints of physics. The immediate fact that something seemed to be occuring between Riven and Caras right now though bothered the Captain slightly. Both had raised the shielding of their minds, or was it that they were just too engrossed in one anothers chatter that they could not be reliably sensed? The Captain pondered the situation briefly, his thoughts still on his crew in orbit of Amleth, then when Caras apparently 'disconnected' from the mind of Riven, he stood and then ushered her aside to a place where they could speak in private. Riven looked on curiously, but appeared to understand whilst the others chatted idly amongst themselves. Entering into an alcove, the Captain then quizzed his Counsellor... "Counsellor", said the Captain, speaking under his breath now. "I need to know if you are able to directly communicate with the ship via telepathic contact", he asked. "I also need to know the exact extent of any damage if you are able to ascertain it" (Reply Caras) "And this man, Doctor Riven. You seemed to be sharing communication with him, I need to know from you now, can he be trusted?", asked the Captain, unsure right now of his own telepathic senses due to the knowledge that his ship and crew were now in clear and present danger. (Reply Caras) The Captain nodded, thoughtfully. "Our priority is the ship and crew. I want you to report any developments to me immediately. We cannot progress in our mission to find Lau until we know that the ship is safe", said the Captain. "If the ship is lost, then both we, and our mission are lost also", he added omminously. (Reply Caras) The Captain nodded again, and then glanced around at the near full bar before ushering the Counsellor to follow him as he returned to the gathering. (Reply Caras, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering – ACEO, Ensign Jake Haltom - 17:00) Scott was industrious as promised, as they set them up in order from left to right in the back of the console for Primary, first and second backup which necessitated jumping the control circuit at the panel between the backups so that either/or could be actuated should one of them fail. Stretching them out wasn't hard but getting them hooked into the nodes was a bit different from the control panel as Jake first removed the hard wired primary control circuits then replaced them with the opto isolation cabling so that any remaining interference from the freeze out would be completely out of the loop. That left only their newly installed cabling hooked up to the replacement console. Jake used the plasma fuser to bond the cabling to the primary node and from there to the coolant back up valve and then did the same to by the plasma release which would go through cooling cells before being returned to the coolant reservoir. He knew the clock was ticking (An old human euphemism since everything was electronic nowadays though he understood there were some old style timepieces in existence) so he hurried as fast as he could safely, making sure of each connection before going on the other. “Jake we are up and running at this end.” "Almost done here," He was about halfway through hooking up the last node."Would you get those chips over to the primary please? Wait to put them in till I give you the all clear." (Reply: Scott iyw) ~Almost there. Come on.~ Finally the last connection was made and he tested it with a quick sweep of his tricorder, checking for fractures or irregularities. ~It's good!~ "Slap those chips in Scott." While the other engineer slipped the chips into place Jake hurried to the panel and waited for the circuit to power up, when the last one was in he could hear the hum of awakening circuitry from the panel. ~Good girl~ The screen flashed on showing power flow, amps, volts etc then the calibration menu came up. Jake began cycling through it and setting the parameters for minimum coolant temp and pressure and maximum temp and pressure, the panel then calibrated the percentages between so that current values could be analyzed. When the bar graphs came up it of course showed how deep the dog poop was that they had stepped in, temperature and pressure was near to reaching the catastrophic failure mark on the scale. ~Of course, I wouldn't have expected any different after the time it took.~ A quick flick of his fingers to power up the valves and then he crossed his fingers, if it took a dump they were done for. The readings slowed their climb then began to level off. Jake found that he was holding his breath and forced himself to take a deep one. ~Come on~ It hovered just below critical for several seconds mocking him before starting to trend downward and he exhaled explosively but couldn't keep his eyes off the readout till the temperature had dropped below 3,000 degrees. He closed his eyes in relief and let out a sigh, when he looked down again the reading was already below 2,500 and stabilized under 2,300. A long look showed it wasn't going anywhere soon. His next sigh sounded like a groan. "Thank God!" He tapped his combadge then. "Chief K'Tell this is Ensign Haltom in Main Engineering, we have restored command and control to the reactor, temperature has stabilized within optimal range. We'll continue to clean up here in Main engineering for now unless you have any orders sir?" (Reply: K'Tell) “Okay what’s the next mess we need to clean up” Jake gave Scott a tired smile. "Next on our plate is to get those damaged consoles tore down so that they can be rebuilt. If I was a computer programmer I'd help OPS but I'm not. Isolate power to that one you were on and gut it and I mean every last circuit board and make a pile that we can sort through later to see if anything is salvageable, I'll do the same with the other one. When OPS gives us back some control down here we'll troubleshoot the ones that are acting crazy and get them online." (reply: Scott) While the other engineer went to work Jake found another burned out panel and removed the isolinear chips that powered it up before getting underneath it and starting his demolition. ~Come on OPS where's our control at?~ (reply: Scott, any) (posted by Charles) (USS Spectre – Deck 5 - Security Station Beta – TAC/ASC, Ensign Will Frost - 17:02) There were some days that made Will miss his past life, wonder what could have been. In his mind he was living proof that the world isn't as civilized today as many thought it was. Some form of barbaric sport still existed, and his life as a professional fighter proved that. And there were days he missed the adulation of the crowd, the chanting of Frost over and over, people calling him the Ice Man. There were days were he missed the constant training, the traveling from city to city, planet to planet, station to station to get ready for a fight. And there were even days he missed getting beat up into a pulp. And yet here was in Starfleet, realizing a different dream. It was always a dream for him to go be a Starfleet Officer, but when he didn't pass the entrance exams on his first try, rather than buckle down for the next one, he enrolled in college instead. That is when he discovered the life of an amateur fighter, and balanced school and his more aggressive past time. But it gave him an outlet to get all the stress out. He viewed it as an art form. So when college was over and he was asked to try it out on a more professional circuit he jumped at the chance. Even contended for a couple championships. But then life got him back on target. And when you go on a two month trip to get ready for a fight with your Ferengi Promoter, and you come back and you find your fiance is 3 weeks pregnant. Well, Will thought about his life, and if it was meaningful. By the start of the 2410-11 academic year, Will had gotten in to Starfleet Academy and at the age of 24 he was starting over. Got through the academy in four years, was the academy boxing champ in two out of the four years. Did some advanced training and was assigned to the Spectre before she set out on her current mission. He had heard great things about the Spectre, a family friend, Captain William Alexander had served on her twice, before settling in to his current role back in the JAG corp stationed on Earth. So to say he was excited to be on the Spectre was an understatement. Still there had been days he missed the simple life of beating and getting beat up for a living. But today wasn't one of those days. Even if he was currently stationed at security station beta monitoring deck 5 movements. Not the most exciting task in the world, but Will would be the first to tell you, any task is better than getting a right hook to the jaw from a vulcan. Even with the fact he was on Security Station Beta Monitoring duty instead of out on the hunt, this was not one of those days where he missed his old life. "Well Will," He said to himself, "Do use the old addage, it is 1700 hundred hours and all's well on deck 5." "Slap those chips in Scott." ~This better work~ He put the chips in carefully as damaging them by rushing now would just be terrible. He saw Haltom move to the panel as it powered up He moved over to him to see for him self. Far far, to close~ Scott’s eyes were glued to the reading. His mind was so focused on what the console was telling him that he was blanking out all the other chaos around him in engineering It hovered just below critical for several seconds mocking him before starting to trend downward and he heard Haltom give an explosive exhale and a ironic smile danced across his face but his eyes never left the console as he watched the temperature drop below 3,000 degrees. He grinned and muttered another expletive before glancing around and giving a sigh of relief as the reading were already dropping below 2,500 and then started to stabilise under 2,300 "Thank God!" ~Him and all the others mate. He looked at the fused burnt mess that was in front of him. ~This may take some time~ He the settled down and started the dismantling (Reply: Haltom, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - COUNS, Ensign Elani Caras - 17:03) The Captain took her off to a corner, and spoke quietly with her. "Counsellor", said the Captain, speaking under his breath now. "I need to know if you are able to directly communicate with the ship via telepathic contact", he asked. "I also need to know the exact extent of any damage if you are able to ascertain it" She nodded slightly, "I can some. Through Doctor Kirien. She's a rather strong telepath and she and Dr. Mias have known each other a long time. From what Dr. Kirien told me, she was born at the temple that Dr. Mias has spent most of his career serving." She spoke quietly, under her breath. She would have preferred to communicate telepathically, but the Captain wasn't entirely receptive to that. "And this man, Doctor Riven. You seemed to be sharing communication with him, I need to know from you now, can he be trusted?", asked the Captain. Elani nodded. "If you close your eyes Sir, you can feel how strong he is and that he is a mindhealer. I'd met him once, several years ago at a lecture that the University of Betazed held on mind healing techniques. He was working primarily with a former starship Captain at the time who had been badly damaged. He is exactly who he says he is." Elani paused for a few seconds. "When I talked with him, and we danced it was because I needed the suspicious eyes off of the away team and onto me. There is a nasty cardassian term for what I just did." Her eyes close a moment. "Can you tell me exactly what questions you want asked, Sir? It would help Dr. Kirien find the right person to get you the information you need Elani paused again and spoke very quietly, "The only reason we can do this is that we all know each other very well. Dr. Kirien is my strongest friend aboard the Spectre and as I said, he and Dr. Kirien spent many years together in the temple." Elani looked at her nails for a moment before speaking even more quietly. "Dr, Kirien said that in engineering the warp core is overheating, so they are trying to release some of the pressure. She isn't an engineer however and doesn't really understand what is going on. There is an Ensign dead in Engineering and several terminals exploded." (reply T`Vhor <3 ) The two came back to the table and Noah made an excellent point. Elani had been so concerned about the other Starfleet Officers blowing their cover that she apparently nearly had. "Perhaps it would be best for all of us to move on, Sir? With Dr. Mias staying in a safe place of course." (reply any) (posted by Mel :-) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 17:05) So, the bottom line then was, Riven clearly had Caras trust. Indeed she seemed to positively exude confidence in the man judging by the way that she sang his praises. The foremost reasons for the Captains initial queries though were in regards the ship and her crew. If the ship had lost her phase cloak, then this could all be about to get a whole lot worse than what it already was. "Can you tell me exactly what questions you want asked, Sir? It would help Dr. Kirien find the right person to get you the information you need", said the Counsellor. "The First Officer would be the logical choice", said the Captain. "I need to know the state of our key systems, whether we still have the cloak and whether there is any likelihood that core might go critical. Either way, Commander Tsukawa is the first port of call" (Reply Caras, IYW) "Dr, Kirien said that in engineering the warp core is overheating, so they are trying to release some of the pressure. She isn't an engineer however and doesn't really understand what is going on. There is an Ensign dead in Engineering and several terminals exploded." The very word 'Dead' resonated like a bell in the Captains thoughts like some harbinger of further trouble to come. One crewman dead was one too many already, and the thought that the phase cloaks possible failure might lead to further deaths, was absolutely unthinkable. The Captain though had then led Caras back to the group from whence they had both came, the Counsellor herself offering some further advice. "Perhaps it would be best for all of us to move on, Sir? With Dr. Mias staying in a safe place of course." T'Vhor looked to Riven, and then to each of his team gathered there. "Agreed", he said, "I assume that you have a safe place that we might all move to?", said the Captain, directing his query to Riven now. "Or at least a refuge other than this rapidly filling bar?" (Reply Riven, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACouns Dr. Riven Mias - 17:06) Indeed Riven had watched thoughtfully as the captain had led his officer to a less public spot since it was the very thing he had 'lectured' her about in a way, it was right and it was proper and he took no offence whatsoever to it. The rest of the table went about their business hardly noticing what had transpired except for one of them who was giving Riven measuring looks which caused him to wonder if the mental conversation they had been having had not gone unnoticed. With such a large group as they had it necessitated sitting at multiple tables, Riven himself sat with some others including Loth at a separate table from the one the Captain and Elani themselves had occupied. When they returned T'Vor seemed to have had his mind put at ease concerning him but his concern for his crew and ship were obvious to the Mind Healer though he tried to keep it concealed so that the rest of the crowd in the bar would not pick up on it. When THAT officer who had been watching him voiced his concern Riven cringed, it had been so long since he had tried to be sneaky that he was woefully out of practice. "Perhaps it would be best for all of us to move on, Sir? With Dr. Mias staying in a safe place of course." "Agreed", The CO nodded The Captain's eyes then locked onto Riven's as the rest of their group turned attentive eyes to the tableau and edged closer. the words he then spoke confirmed that at least some measure of trust had been extended. "I assume that you have a safe place that we might all move to? Or at least a refuge other than this rapidly filling bar?" The Betazoid mind healer had no choice except to shake his head as he kept his voice low enough that it wouldn't carry beyond to other inquiring ears. The motion made the hair down his back rustle which caused a melancholy chiming from the inset charms. "I'm afraid not, we have only been in the one house since we got here." his eyes cut over to Lt. Gerald who was frowning at their predicament. It appeared as though he had shaken off the worst of the effects of the Romulan ale. "I do know of someone who can help though." He nodded at Loth. "Loth I may be out of place in asking this since I'm not the one in charge here but IS there somewhere else we can go? Your house perhaps?" (Reply: Loth, any) (posted by Charles) (Amleth – Amparus, Corvus District – Civilian Lotheran Pessoj – 17:09) The old man noticed Riven walking across, he lowered his flute for a second. He listened to Riven, “Loth I may be out of place in asking this since I’m not the one in charge here but IS there somewhere else we can go? Your house Perhaps?” Loth thought about it for a moment, two of his ‘old friends’ going to his house wouldn’t be suspicious, however two of his old friends and a troop of Cardassian civilians? “Your going to be the death of me,” Loth mumbled he thought about it :: I can easily get the two ‘old friends back home but if we go back as a group it’ll look suspicious::: he thought about it again, and tapped the side of his head looking over at Riven, :: Could you give your captain a road map to my place, you me and the ELL Tee can head back to mine then your captain could meet us there:: (Reply Riven) Loth tried thinking again louder, almost shouting in his own head, having never tried to communicate Telepathically, having never liked the idea of someone seeing what was in his mind, he wondered if his thoughts were getting through, he wondered if shouting something in his own head was the metaphorical equivalent of leaving your Universal Translator at home and shouting at the Locals loudly and slowly. (Reply Riven) Loth began to imagine the rout to his path giving a picture to go with his thoughts of what his house looked like, to be honest it wasn’t much just a small cabin on the outskirts of the village, it was however a good hours walk away. “Get it?” He asked with a slightly perplexed look “It’s my first time be gentle” He teased (Reply Riven, T'Vhor) (Posted By Jo) (Amleth – Amparus, Corvus District – Dr. Riven Mias – 17:12) Riven gave the human a knowing nod and reassuring smile at his complaint. He knew it was asking a lot hence the reason he had been hesitant to ask but they had no choice at this time except to impose upon him if they wanted to finish the mission and leave this place. He wasn't actively prying into Loth's mind but easily picked up his surface thoughts and the human had come to the same conclusion as himself. :: Of course Loth but please try not to overtly show we are talking mentally, It's already been pointed out to me that it looks suspicious. Also you don't have to "Shout" at me, I can hear you very clearly. :: He 'walked' the path in Loth's mind from the tavern, seeing the landmarks along the considerable way until he arrived at the man's abode here on Amleth. The path was well known to the man as he used it often from K'Trall's establishment. The fact that he lived near the outskirts of the city made it useful as a meeting place but not so much for the search since it was not centrally located. That however in no way devalued its purpose. Riven studied its details until he was satisfied. “Get it?” Loth asked him. He appeared confused at the procedure which was not surprising. “It’s my first time be gentle” Riven gave him a smile and nod at the joke. It's already done my friend." Then turned to T'Vor and sent to him the mental pictures and path he had gleaned from Loth's mind. (Reply: T'Vhor) After he was sure it had been delivered in total he sighed and spoke softly to T'Vor. "I completely agree with Loth, it's time Lt. Gerald and I accompanied him away from this place. I would suggest drifting out singly and in pairs before meeting up and rendezvousing at his house so if you'll excuse us we'll be off." Riven stood and with a shake of his head indicated Lt. Gerlad should follow, he nodded and fell in step with himself and Loth as they headed out of the tavern, all carrying their musical instruments which had provided so much entertainment for the evening, well at least Loth's flute and Riven's oboe had. (Reply: Loth, T'Vhor, any) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth – Amparus, Corvus District – CO, Captain T'Vhor – 17:14) The Captain looked around the bar, noting as he did so that yet more people had now arrived. One would have imagined that this was, perhaps, the only bar in the village, being that it seemed to be gathering patrons now by the minute. Riven, at the express request of the Captain, had walked over to another civilian, Loth, an older Human with hair as long as Rivens and seemingly of a similar build bodywise, although slightly more weighty. An exchange had begun, and then they had fallen silent as they looked about, almost furtively. Clearly, a telepathic conversation has ensued for a short while and then Lotheran had asked if Riven had 'got it'.. “It’s my first time be gentle”, he had added with a quirk of his head. Riven acknowledged accordingly and then looked to the Captain. It was then that T'Vhor mind seemed to become filled with a hundred and one images that although coming through fast, eventually coalesced into something more recognisable. The Doctor was showing him a route! A way to get to somewhere nearby without actually telling him. Within a moment or two, the Captain had understood Rivens intent and had nodded in acknowledgement, just as Riven began talking to Lotheran. "I completely agree with Loth, it's time Lt. Gerald and I accompanied him away from this place. I would suggest drifting out singly and in pairs before meeting up and rendezvousing at his house so if you'll excuse us we'll be off.", said Riven. "Agreed", said T'Vhor, falling into the ruse now. "It has been a pleasure meeting you. I sincerely hope that we will meet again" Riven and his cohorts then left the tavern, the Captain turning to those that had remained with him and letting them all know what was happening. "The good Doctor has shown me a map", he began, "the route to his Oboe playing compatriots home, where we might meet and discuss our aims further", he added, under his breath. NRPG: Room for more here if need be... RPG: (Reply Any, IYW) "We will leave shortly", said the Captain. "It would be best not to raise any suspicion by following immediately as there are still Cardassian soldiers in the village. I am however, sure that Lau is somewhere nearby" (Reply Any) (Posted by Alan) (Amleth – Amparus, Corvus District – Civilian, Lothera Pessoj – 17:15) Loth Stumbled out the entrance to the bar clutching his Flute, while the residual Romulan Ale was wearing off he was still in the warm cotton coated area of inebriation. He began walking towards his house, since he had given Riven the rout to his house it would be easy for them to make it there. Loth felt the exhaustion of his Illness taking its toll on him. He paused for a second and gathered his breath. He turned to Riven as they walked towards his house, “I should confess although you may have already figured this, I’m not a well man.” Loth said with a weak smile, “Most the Cardy’s around here know it, and a few, Like K’trall, will pop by and check up on me if they don’t see me for a couple of days.” Loth paused this would be the first time he had told another human… well Betazoid, “I’ve got MS,” Loth stated as they walked, “I’m lucky that it’s not affected my mind, but my physical body isn’t as strong as it once was.” He sighed, (Reply Riven IYW) “Well, I’m unsure if there is a treatment never really looked into it, I take some things to help me along Cardassian medicine isn’t quite as good as Federation although they would rather die from a disease before they would admit it.” Loth chuckled. “I’m not so proud, having lived with it a few years I would like to see if there is anything your doctors could do…” Loth paused as he continued to walk along. (Reply Riven IYW) Loth continued towards his house, It was a good few minutes away, he would rather walk in silence, mainly because he was finding himself short of breath, also the Ale had affected him and he was having to concentrate on his footsteps. He had been diagnosed about seven years ago, a genetic disorder one that had been over looked on when his mother had her first scan, when they could have fixed it while he was a child. When Loth’s wife had died, seven years ago, Loth had been drawn to Cardassian space, despite the war being over thirty years ago many of the smaller Cardassian settlements were still suffering, Loth had volunteered to help psychologically traumatized persons, Loth was often surprised how many there were still alive, mind you Cardassian’s could be very long lived. Loth continued to make the way up the hill towards his house, it wasn’t far now. He wondered how long he had been musing in his own mind. "We're back in business folks." Jake dropped the mangled circuit into the growing mound of components that were beyond repair and rose from his squat and slapped Scott on the shoulder. "Back to your panel Scott and see what you can do with it." (Reply: Scott) Jake then began moving around Engineering checking the other controls but not before he stopped off at that panel. The display was fuzzy around the edges with distortions running through it. "Let me look at this." The man moved and he took his place and began running a test on the panel. The self-diagnostic circuit took only a moment before throwing him a code. "No big deal. Shut it down for a moment." While the technician followed his directions he returned to the small pile of intact but untested components and grabbed a couple then pulled the back plate off after demagnetizing the lock. A quick glance in using a small flash followed by a count of the circuits led him to the culprit. He pulled out his tricorder again and made a complete scan of the ones he was holding and found what he was looking for. "You should be a good one." He pulled out the chip and replaced it with one he had canned. "Try it again." The tech powered up the panel after he had replaced the back plate, then he moved around to look still holding the small pile of chips in his hand. The display came up normally this time and solidified. "Good." The tech ran through the warm up sequence and before long they were getting good, fuzz free data. "Nice. Thanks." "You're welcome. I want a diagnostic run on the warp core, if there's any damage or distortions caused by the overheating I want to know now." Jake snapped, for once today feeling in control of the situation. The complete scan took several minutes and showed only a slight harmonic resonance within the core which could also have been caused by the loss of command and control. "Adjusting." Jake nodded as the man did his job, after another minute or two the resonance had disappeared along with the flashing alert lamps but they could have gone earlier, he had been too engrossed to notice. "Good, run a diagnostic on all systems now." "It will take a half an hour..." The man started. "I know." Jake cut him off. "Just do it, I'll be running scans around the deck at all the junctions as well. Alert me if you find anything." "Yes... sir" The man added, not used to the ACEO's muscle flexing, he had always been so quiet before that the change in attitude was striking. Jake dropped the components on the panel before joining Scott at his console. "How are things looking over here Scott?" (Reply: Scott) He nodded. "Good work, watch the intermix chamber for the next few minutes and see if there are any fluctuations, there shouldn't be as we've just adjusted for harmonic resonance in the core but I want to be sure, let me know if there's anything you can't handle." (Reply: Scott) Jake then walked off with a new spring in his step, that is until he saw the last of the casualties being removed from engineering and he slowed, frowned, shook his head sadly and went back to his interrupted round of inspections. ~If I ever find out there was somebody behind this security will have to lock me up before I get to them~ (Reply: Scott, any) (posted by Charles) (Amleth – Amparus, Corvus District – CMO Noah – 17:20) "We will leave shortly" Noah turned so that he could hear what T’Vhor was saying. If for some reason he is not then we will have gone through all this effort for nothing which would be a total waste of time~ He looked around the bar looking at the Cardassians as they came and went. ~The sooner we go from here the better it will be as the longer we are here the more chance of getting rumbled~ He sat quietly and waited for the right moment to leave with the others. Scott smiled and nodded. “Lets go and fix something like proper normal engineers.” He grinned as Haltom move away and looked back at job he had in front of him. ~Ow what I would give for some type of engine with moving parts and combustion~ He pulled back under the console and shook his head at what he saw. “This is going to be a swap out. There is no way its going to be quick.” He dug deeper and found that there was not power going to the console so he crawled back out and found an access hatch on the floor. He looked inside and saw that the power was flowing but there was a nice black scorch mark under the console. ~Well that’s obvious~ He grabbed some cabling, a welding torch and slid him self through the hatch. He paused for a moment as he felt the walls push in all around him. He took a deep breath and moved forward. ~Who ever built this was a shape shifter~ He squeezed him self to the burnt out spot and took a good look at it. It looked like the power surge only took the junction but luckily it was stopped before it reach the main power junction box. ~Well it could have blown and took out most of engineering. Feel lucky at the moment~ He attached the cabling to the part of the power system of the console that had not been destroyed. He then plugged it into main power junction. He crossed his fingers as he access the console he opened the power feed and watched as it moved into the console. He gave a quiet sigh as he shuffled him self back out of through the hatch. He accessed the console and saw that it was partially powered. ~Better then before. Now all I need is to get the swap outs and were running~ "How are things looking over here Scott?" He looked up and saw Haltom. “Ow you know tinkering here and there. Trying to see if all the parts fit back together again. All it needs is a few swap out and its up and running.” "Good work, watch the intermix chamber for the next few minutes and see if there are any fluctuations, there shouldn't be as we've just adjusted for harmonic resonance in the core but I want to be sure, let me know if there's anything you can't handle." “Let’s just hope nothing existing happens for the next few moments” He moved back and looked at the intermix chamber hoping there was no fluctuations =^=Ensign Smith to Ensign Smith=^= “Hay bother you having fun playing with your computers?” “I got you codes but they are not complete. I’ll give you what I got and I will try and get some more for you.” Scott grinned “Grate we’ll put it in and see what happens.” He looked around where standing and gave a sigh “Can’t make it any worse then it is already.” “Okay get back to you soon.” He looked around and saw Haltom. As he walked over his PADD beeped as Robert had pass in the codes. “Jake. My brother Robert up at Ops on the bridge has found the codes but they are not whole….” He paused and gave a slight shrug. “…but at least we have something to start with.” He handed the PADD to Haltom. (Reply Haltom) (Reply Haltom, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering – ACEO Ensign Jake Haltom - 17:25) Jake had been using his scanner to check the primary power and command/ control nodes in Main engineering for any discrepancies, whether from the unexplained power surge or anything else that might be suspicious. So far he had found some stressed components in a couple of those junctures that would have to be replaced though they were holding up for the moment. “Jake. My brother Robert up at Ops on the bridge has found the codes but they are not whole….” Jake shut down the tricorder so that its whine would not interfere with his conversation with the officer as he turned to look at him. Scott gave a shrug as he did so and continued. “…but at least we have something to start with.” Jake took the PADD he handed over and accessed the contents of the file, nodding as he did so. "Good, it likes like the main power grid controls are mostly intact though I don't see the bypass commands listed. This is a good starting point though, as long as the primary isn't corrupted we should be able to rebuild the rest of the sub-routines if he can't come up with anything else." With Scott in tow he made his way to the main panel and initiated the Command/Control override subroutine and began inputting the command codes. It took several minutes to go through the extensive list. He could have just downloaded it directly through the PADD but if there was a software issue it could have corrupted the files. Gradually the lighting strengthened in engineering and various workstations began to come on-line as their command pathways were restored, when it was finally done he straightened up with a satisfied sigh and stretched his back then handed the PADD back to Scott. "Give your brother my thanks for the help and tell him dinner is on me." he then smiled at the common joke since meals on ship are always provided to the crew free anyway." Or he can wait for the free meal till we get to some place where they serve non-replicator food, what I wouldn't give for a good, medium rare, prime beef steak right now and an actual shot of whiskey." (Reply: Scott) Jake chuckled as he looked around engineering. "As soon as you're done with that panel check with the rest of the technicians and verify they are all back to normal operations while I continue with the scans I'm doing. Having someone admit their physical ailments was preferable than confronting them with it. Had he not volunteered the information the Mind Healer would have 'suggested' a 'routine' physical examination once they had gotten to the ship. There was no need to be covert about it now though. "Have you looked into medical treatment Loth?" He asked, not knowing how advanced the Cardassian medical sciences were. “Well, I’m unsure if there is a treatment never really looked into it, I take some things to help me along Cardassian medicine isn’t quite as good as Federation although they would rather die from a disease before they would admit it.” Loth chuckled. “I’m not so proud, having lived with it a few years I would like to see if there is anything your doctors could do…” There was a pause as the man continued toward his abode on this world. "I can't promise a 'miracle' cure..." Riven accented the word. "However there are beneficial treatments, some of them are extremely effective as a matter of fact. The Federation has a large group of species to make up its core and by working together they have advanced the medical sciences to a nearly unheard of degree in many of the known sectors of the galaxy. I would be very surprised if the medical staff of the Spectre could NOT help you a great deal. " "Also." He added thoughtfully. "By returning to Federation space you will reap the benefits with much better medical care than you can get here. Although I am a Mind Healer by avocation I am not unfamiliar with the medical branches as I sometimes work closely with them. Even telepathic misfunction sometimes has its root as symptomatic of some physical ailment and by combining mind healing with specific medical treatments the individual can receive better care than through one treatment alone." Lt. Gerald had not done much speaking the whole evening, preferring silence to the goofs he had made, especially the one in front of the Captain but broke his silence now. "Dr. Mias is right Loth, although you may feel you are being forced to abandon your life here it will be beneficial to you in the long run. The treatments he is talking about will not only add to your lifespan but significantly increase the quality of your life as opposed to the way you feel now. From what I've seen your case is not so far advanced that it can't be greatly diminished." At Riven's questioning look he shrugged his shoulders. "The Intelligence division tends to pick up a lot more information than we're given credit for and not just in the clandestine realm. We have some operatives with a god complex it's true but there are a lot of us who give a damn about people despite what you may think," The Betazoid smiled. "In that case I retract some of my earlier concerns about you though I can't say I completely trust the department." He gave a chuckle. "A certain Vulcan Captain I know once had a very heated argument with one of your agents you speak of as having a god complex shortly after he entered the fleet. I must say I found Saleke's logic compelling." He gave a hearty laugh at that one. "One of the many stories of his time on the Nimitz I ferreted out of him while he was First Officer on the Mystique. He tends to be close mouthed as all Vulcans are but my charming personality has its advantages when dealing with silent types." he grinned. "Perhaps he let me in on some of his experiences just to shut me up." Their chatter after that point helped break the monotony of the walk though Riven could hear the wheezing of Loth as he walked along silently and did his best to keep the mood light, once he got him on the Spectre he was determined to make sure the medical staff there gave him their full attention. He also seemed to be lost in reverie as well, about what the Mind Healer refused to pry. From the mental map Loth had given him he knew they were getting close but purposely kept his pace unhurried so that the man could lead, he was looking forward to having some time for a nap, even if it was a short one before the landing party arrived, all he would need was a couch to curl up on. The thought grew more and more appealing with each step. He was tipsy from the alcohol he had imbibed but still full for the first time in days, sleep then was the next most important item on his agenda. Another turn and two more houses and they arrived at his front door, Riven gave a sigh of relief as they stood before his door. "Thank you for the trust you've placed in us Loth, I can guarantee it is not misplaced." (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (Amleth – Amparus, Corvus District – CO, Captain T'Vhor – 17:29) The situation outside the bar had not changed much since they had entered it. Various people were still meandering apparently aimlessly amongst the various stalls, manned as they were by sellers that plied their wares in an apparently tireless fashion. The trinket seller that had sold the Captain the amulet earlier seemed eager to sell him yet another, but he dismissed him forthwith and then continued on his way, the unfolding map in his head now at the forefront of his concentration. His compatriots had followed suit of course, leaving as they had done at irregular intervals so as not to raise any suspicion from the ever present Cardassian military nearby, then they had regrouped near the arched gate that led back out into the verdant scrubland outside. At that point the Captain checked his tricorder, the resultant scan revealing that nothing in particular had changed since they had arrived there apart from one, apparently non-descript and seemingly inconsequential reading of a power emanation of some sort somewhere nearby. "Strange", said the Captain, taking note of that reading. "this was not here before, and it does not seem to conform to a power emanation that we might expect on this Moon" (Reply Any, IYW) The Captain nodded accordingly and then glanced around the area once again, taking note as he did so of the image in his mind that corresponded to a path leading away to the East and into a more dense area of arborea. Immediately, he pointed in regards it. "We will investigate the power reading later. That, is where we are meant to be headed right now", he stated, closing the tricorder and then pocketing it. "Dr Riven and Mr Lotheran are by now, surely awaiting us", he added as they continued on their way. (Reply Any, IYW) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Deck 12 – Unknown saboteur – 17:40) The trill woman was displeased that her little virus to increase the temperature hadn't worked. But most of engineering was a smoking disaster due to the feedback, and while they had external terminals, it wasn't ideal. And she liked that things wouldn't be ideal. It made her job just a little easier. This was supposed to look natural, that something mechanical had failed to expose the ship. She had an idea for a last minute surprise, and so she needed to get into the secondary computer core. Unfortunately that was blocked off by several security people. They would never believe that the disposable identity chip said she was a male engineer. That wouldn't work at all since they were double checking IDs. She turned in the next corridor to head away from it. Where else could she go? She thought as she walked along. Then it occurred to her. Life Support. If she could get them off the Bridge and onto the battle bridge, then she should be able to access the communications. There were frequencies that the marines used to communicate and one of those was close to a frequency that the Cardassians liked to use for automated messages. No one was guarding the panel into the primary life support panel. She used her combat engineer tricks and became for this one a male ops officer. She climbed easily inside securing the panel behind her. She tended to wear a lab coat while working since it gave her pockets and pockets were so useful when you were an Ops officer. The Ensign had forced her to work in tandem with him and that had defeated her virus since engineering had managed to redirect the coolant controls. That had been a feint. This was the real deal. The trill inserted her normal loop chip in to loop the security feed, then began to work fast and efficiently. The bomb would go off in about 30 minutes, the bridge would be flooded with anasthezine gas. They would be forced to flee the Bridge and that would give her some time to put out the morse code message she was going to send. Whether or not they picked it up was up in the air, but it would be worth it in the end, if only as a distraction, a diversion while she got down to business. She whistled to herself as she let herself out of the life support system and headed towards Holodeck 1. She needed to get rid of those two fake ids before Security decided that they were going to be smart and search for them. She grabbed one of the lower powered phasers and tossed the first identity chip up into the air. It took a longer burn since it was so low power, but she was satisfied when the chip fell, burned, hopefully beyond recognition. She then did the same with the second, scooping them up and putting them into her pocket. She then decided that to make this trip look legitimate, she ran through several of the phaser trials for the next quarter hour. Racking her phaser with the others, she headed out towards the Arboretum. Ten more minutes and she would have the identities disposed of. One got buried under a willow tree. The other went down a garbage hatch to be recycled. She smiled as the red alert claxon went off with an environmental warning. The Bridge was going to be flooded with sleepy gas. And then her program would execute while they were evacuating to the Battle Bridge. This time was going to be the one where she succeeded. She couldn't do any more of these surprises without getting caught. It was less densely packed than the main market place from whence they had came, but nonetheless similar in it's style of architecture where the housing was concerned. There was a distinct and very different smell here also, that of smoke borne of what seemed to be a carbonised source. The Captain took in the view ahead of him, noting as he did so the small chimneys on the dwellings, three of which issued the aforementioned smoke from their apex to clarify that assumption. He then turned to his left, a lane disappearing into an area that sported some unusually colourful flora for this Moon. The Captain quirked his head slightly and then he overlayed the image that Riven had placed within his mind onto the area he was surveying once again. "This way", he said, and they all followed until they had arrived in another clearing flanked by five houses in a three, facing two configuration. The last thing that she had recalled was being on the bridge and someone shouting that there had been a gas escape. After that, everything had been a blur. "What has happened?", she snapped, "who is in command of the ship?" "Sir, I - I'm not sure", came the reply, "apparently the battle bridge has been readied for operations" Tsukawa's eyes widened as she inhaled deeply at the mention of the battle bridge, then she swung her feet off the bed and planted them onto the floor, her head becoming slightly fuzzy as she did so, a hand coming up to the side of her head as she continued on. "Have we separated?", she exclaimed. "I don't think so", said the medic, just as Hoshimi began to feel faint once again. "I have to get to the battle bridge", she said with a start, at which point the nurse interjected once more with some carefully chosen advice that she just knew would not be taken seriously. "But you are still uneasy on your feet", she exclaimed. "Sir, I cannot reliably...." Hoshimi wasted no time though and immediately stood to steady herself whilst motioning to the hypospray in the nurses hand. "Then give me a stimulant if you must. Either way, my place right now is on the battle bridge", she said as she pulled aside the top of her tunic to expose her neck to the nurse. The nurse paused briefly as though weighing up the pro's and con's and rattifying just how it would look on the report when she had to show it to Noah later. In a nutshell, her own medical training was clashing with the demands of the FO on this matter, either way though, Hoshimi was not going to relent and she knew it. "Commander Holth. I usually do third watch. Report." He listened as the pandemonium ensued for two minutes, then his voice cut through the bedlam. "Conn, move us smoothly, slowly out of orbit and away from those scrambling frigates." He looked towards Ops and nodded again as it was reported that some message tried to escape the ship, however he knew that was impossible. "Ops it's more likely they noticed the anomaly with the coolant vent. Find that message and turn it off. Post guards at every major access terminal - I want the ship protected from within since it has become obvious that we have a saboteur." He took another deep breath, "Tactical, an analysis on what those Cardassians are searching for." He ordered, a little concerned that somehow the cloak was malfunctioning. The alert had sent him scrambling to life support where he promptly displaced the tech overseeing the control. That man had no idea how close he had come to being violently unseated, had he not moved immediately he might have been pushed out. Initially there had been some trouble overriding the system, this was resolved by redirecting the gas back to the tanks through a normally closed climate boosting subsystem and locking in the loop. Venting the gas and returning normal atmospheric control had taken only a matter of minutes with a minor loss of pressure which was in no way harmful or threatening to the personnel who had been trapped on the bridge and overcome. According to Jake's understanding the effects of the Anesthazine gas were temporary fortunately with no long term or chronic health affects. "This is getting to be too d***ed much!" He snarled as the atmospheric sensors on the main bridge came back to normal levels. He then turned on the technician who had been manning the station. "How the hell did you let this happen?" He snarled. The tech turned white as a sheet. "Sir I..." =^=Report Engineering. How goes the cleanup? Do we have an eta on when the repairs will be complete?=^= Jake tapped his combadge, the tech had a reprieve... for now. "Bridge this is the Assistant CEO, life support has been restored to the main bridge." This was the most important item on the agenda for the moment. "Main engineering is eighty five percent operational with main command and control restored and the command subsystems being restructured. There will be repairs ongoing for the next seventy two hours counting damage to bulkheads elsewhere on the ship but we are operational. She had the new plotted course of the frigates as well as the weak points of the satellite sensor net. She activated the manoeuvring thrusters and gave the ship a small nudge just enough to get it moving out off orbit. Her eyes darted from the frigates time to intercept to the distance from the planetary orbit. ~Can’t go that way or we will have to go through them~ She looked again at what course were available and then went for the one that was the safest in this situation. ~Its going to be close~ She rotated the ship and gave it another small boost using the gravity on the planet below to give them some extra speed. ~Okay a few more seconds and we will be over the horizon~ She smiled to herself as the Spectre moved over the horizon and put the planet in front of the intercepting frigates. Another firing of the thrusters to adjust their course and they were free and into space. She gave herself a quick smile as she turned to the FO. “Ma’am the ship is moved we are now on the opposite side of the planet to the intercepting frigates and in open space. Tactical station on the battle bridge, directly behind the person in charge, Commander Holth. Having a moment to himself before the orders he knew would be coming flew in, Harrison let his fingers fly over the console infront of him. Setting up an alert so that any changes to the computer system of any system in the ship would show on his console, he wanted to keep an eye on the secure systems incase this saboteur tried anything else. An alert, silent to anyone but himself, would flash on his console, showing the location of the unauthorised or authorised access. ~Fingers crossed this should catch them in the act.~ he thought to himself. "Security, Enlist the marines and do a deck by deck search. Whoever is doing this must be leaving some form of clue behind. If it takes a person by person search, then do it. Post guards at every major access terminal - I want the ship protected from within since it has become obvious that we have a saboteur. Tactical, an analysis on what those Cardassians are searching for." He ordered, a little concerned that somehow the cloak was malfunctioning. But it seemed like the Cardassians had not been able to follow them and that argued powerfully that the cloak wasn't malfunctioning. “Yes Sir.” Harrison replied promptly. Tapping his combadge, Harrison said, “Walker to Frost.” (Reply Frost) “Start a deck by deck search. Look for anything out of the ordinary. Use the Marines if you have to. He walked to Commander Holth side and said, “Sir, if I may just update you…” (Reply Holth) “Security is in the process of carrying out your orders. I have also taken the liberty of adding a little extra security measure to the computer system.” (Reply Holth) “Well, let’s just say that I will know instantly if the saboteur tries to access any system. I’d rather not say exactly how as we don’t know who this person is and if they might have abilities that have kept them one step ahead of us.” (Reply Holth) “Thankyou Sir, I’ll get on that analysis for you.” (Reply Holth) (Reply Frost, Holth, any) (Posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Spectre - Battle Bridge - FO, Cmdr Hoshimi Tsukawa - 18:23) Hoshimi had been tapping at her leg nervously during the descent of the turbolift to deck 12, and the battle bridge. The stimulant had given her the necessary boost to her system of course, but it had also increased her agitation somewhat. As the doors opened though she was immmediately hit by the cacophony of speech and movement that signalled a bridge in readiness for action. "First Officer, on the battle bridge", came an announcement from one of the stations to her left as Hoshimi walked in and then made straight for the command chair. Commander Holth, the current occupier of that chair, turned immediately, his concern showing now on his face at what had just happened up on the bridge, and more importantly, to the FO specifically. Hoshimi cut him off in an instance before he could even speak. Sickbay is sending a team to the Bridge as well, Sir to treat those who were not dragged off the Bridge. Engineering is repairing the damage from the feedback of an hour ago. They are 85% functional and command functions have been restored there. Engineering also reports that the gas has been vented and control restored on the Bridge. Conn has moved us from the area that the Cardassians are now searching, I do not believe that we have been discovered. " He took a breath and went on with the report. "Security is doing a deck by deck search and I've ordered Security and the Marines to cooperate and guard the major accesses. Ops is currently tracing where the attacks have originated and I authorized them to bring whoever they need to assist in the repairs." Another pause. "I leave the Conn in your quite capable hands, Commander." He nodded to her, but waited to be dismissed. He wasn't sure what comedy of errors had conspired to put him in command during a crises situation but he had come running at a moment's notice to take command and believe he did well. He would be glad when he came back on during his normal, boring shift. He smiled slightly at her, "I'm glad you are feeling better, Sir." Heaven knows how much worse it could have actually been had the cloak been compromised. The efficiency of Cmdr Holth though was a testament to the mans command ability and Tsukawa made note of that for her report later. "I leave the Conn in your quite capable hands, Commander.", said Holth, finalising his delivery. Hoshimi gave a curt nod and then proceeded on. Jake’s anger had abated somewhat though he still had a point to make before he let the man off the hook. “Now back to what we were discussing.” He gritted his teeth. “What exactly were you doing when someone was trying to anesthetize the bridge crew?” “I was checking the readings on the wall panel, “The man replied. “When I turned around I saw the warning lamp on the station was flashing right before the alert started and I ran over to correct it.” “And what did you do then?” Jake’s voice was calm, too calm the man feared. “I tried to regain control over the gas release.” His eyes wandered about the room, trying not to look into those smoldering eyes. “And how many times did you attempt this before I came in?” The CEO’s voice still had that deadly calm undertone. “Four I believe.” The man sighed and waited for the storm to unleash. Jake shook his head in wonder. “So all the time the bridge was being saturated with gas you were using the same futile actions.” His head shook. “Have you ever heard the tongue in cheek definition of insanity?” The man sighed heavily and looked away, bracing for the lecture. “Yes sir.” “When I stomped in here what did I do?” That same stony tone still. “You used negative pressure to suck the gas from the bridge while using the bypass output to replace it then trapped the gas within a loop.” The tech shuffled his feet. His next words startled the man, they were almost delivered in a conversational tone. “ I have no doubt you have forgotten more about computer code and programming than I know at the moment but you know squat about the actual workings of the equipment you are using. “ Jake’s tone began to convey that of someone who was barely under control. “The valves within the system you are using have more than just on and off functions, they also contain bypass and at least one and sometimes several secondary shunts and in that way can be used to redirect or control the direction of flow like the magnetic fields we use in the dylithium crystal matrix and within the warp core. Using them in concert you can make an almost unlimited number of paths with which to direct an unwanted release. “ The man nodded uncomfortably. “I would suggest you study up on the mechanical side of your equipment as much as you do the electronic control side.” Jake crossed his arms over his chest. “That way when someone is in DANGER you can alleviate the problem rather than continually exposing human or other life to risk!” His anger was apparent now. “If you can’t regain control after one or two attemts then don’t keep repeating your mistakes!” The man nodded woodenly. “If I have to come up here to rectify your mistakes again I WILL have you put on report.” The tech sighed, this wasn’t going to be as bad as he had feared. “Now AFTER you regain control of the anesthazine control valve open the backup circuit and use positive pressure to push it back into containment and close it off.” Jake snapped. “If you have a problem figuring out how to do it then give ME a call and I’ll do it for you.” “No sir, I can handle it.” The tech was looking at his feet. “Good!” Jake snapped and started for the door but stopped before reaching it. “And I’d suggest you note this procedure and pass it on to your replacements so that this doesn’t happen again.” With that he stepped to the door, there was a whoosh as it opened and he stepped out. The man gave a long exhale of breath in relief and went back to his duties, determined to indeed give those components a look over for future needs, he didn’t want to see the ACEO back in his work area. The most obvious sign was that Kilya's eyes seemed to grow colder as she watched the Cardassian ships struggling to figure out what happened around that area of space, but none of them coming towards the ship. Having to hide her tracks made her miss the opportunity that the Bridge had given her. It seemed that someone was intelligent enough to give the required orders to stop her from doing further sabotage. It was displeasing to the insane Trill symbiont that it's plans had been so altered. Part of Kilya snarled, part of her cringed and another part of her was relieved that the symbiont wasn't winning this time. She felt fractured at the best of times, and this was far from it. She could remember the breath on her neck, hot, the smell spicey of the Admiral who had recruited her to his side so many years before. Kilya's lips did snarl as the symbiont took complete control again and went over to the small chest kept under lock with the toys of a combat engineer. Opening the trunk with a wide, yet evil grin the combat engineer turned Ops began to take her toys out, one by one, fondling them with the same disturbing movements any sociopath would make before committing a kill. It was a loving ritual, each little step. Each little item. Each one had a purpose, a memory that went along with it. Some kept trophies. She kept her equipment as that trophy. Kilya fought for control for a moment and grabbed her phaser, trying to turn it on herself. Then her hand opened, the phaser hitting the floor. She tidied up her toys, leaving two out. The first was a decoder that would allow her into the conduits with no trace. The other was another id that she hadn't activated. An evil little laugh and she let herself out, heading to a gathering area to get food, both physical and rumors. Rumors aboard a starship were often correct and spread quickly, like wildfire. Those in command had not been acting in any way 'by the book' during this mission, and that had raised some concerns amongst the cadets onboard, not least of those being the Deltan hybrid Porsa, and the Vulcan Kurrik. Kurrik himself had tried to ratify the actions of the bridge crew on more than one occasion, actually fifty five times so far, and on each occasion, it still defied logic. "So, what do we do?", said Porsa, leaning towards the upright Kurrik with her hands clasped before her, and thinking long and hard about what they had been told. Then brushing aside a lock of hair that had fallen into her eyes, she spoke again before Kurrik could even answer. "This 'communication breakdown' doesn't seem right to me at all", she added. "I mean, have you ever heard of such a thing?" Kurrik raised an eyebrow in contemplation. "It does seem strange", he offered. "Although there have been a few incidents regarding loss of communication at various Starfleet outposts. The Tantallus array for example, and the Geneva incident" Both cadets then fell silent, as though contemplating both of those well referenced situations and applying it to their own, seemingly unique set of circumstances. A command team apparently out of communication with the rest of Starfleet, and having foregone normal protocol on a number of procedures already. Porsa glanced around the ten forward lounge at the others assembled there. Most seemed content to sip at their respective beverages and eat from their plates without too much visible concern, others sat quietly, perhaps wondering themselves why the training mission had not followed normal protocol. "Geneva was infected by a parasitic organism", offered Porsa, "it began with her command structure" Kurrik nodded, his hands clasped in front of him, his index fingers raised to touch his chin. "Apparently so", he answered. "Well", said Porsa, "don't you think that our own command structure is acting a little ... weird?" "There are defined discrepencies, yes. But those discrepancies may actually be a part of the puzzle that we, as academy cadets are posed to solve", said Kurrik. "Perhaps, this is a test in order to guage our resolve. A ruse to see if we react in a mutinous manner" Porsa sat back into her chair and sighed heavily, the worried look upon her face speaking realms whilst Kurrik's own expression remained one of calm, irrespective of the connundrum that was now facing them both. As a Vulcan of course, Kurrik preferred to take the approach dictated by logic, and just because things seemed odd aboard the Garallon right now, it did not necessarily mean that the command team had succumbed to a parasitic take over. But then again... Porsa interrupted once again. "And what about that black ship?", she asked, "have you seen or heard of anything like that? I know I haven't" Kurrik quirked his head and exhaled. "It did seem somewhat strange", he answered. "I was manning the Science console on the bridge as you know. Our sensors could not detect a power source. It seemed as though it were following the criteria of a sentient lifeform and yet... It was not alive" "And that... thing at it's controls", said Porsa. "Correct me if I'm wrong Kurrik, but that did not seem too friendly to me" Kurrik nodded again. "The appearance of unfriendliness does not necessarily denote unfriendliness", he answered. "I am concerned though as to the nature of our new arrival", he added, referring now to the 'passenger' they had been re-routed in order to pick up from Amleth three days beforehand. Porsa nodded. "She's a strange one", she answered. "I don't think I've ever seen eyes so cold or a demeanour so disrespectful" "Indeed!, said Kurrick, his hands clasping once again before him, his two fingers touching at his chin once again as Porsa reached for her glass and then took a sip of her fruit juice. "So", she said, "what do we do?", the initial query raising it's head once again. Kurrik pondered that question, and then he offered an answer based, as always, on logic. "We continue to observe and respond according to Starfleet protocol", he said dryly, "we factor in all possibilities that arise from our situation and trust logic to provide the answers" Porsa tutted audibly and sighed once again at Kurriks insistence to logic. "In my experience, life is not logical", she said, "and anyway, sometimes the answers may arise from the most illogical route. If this ship has been compromised, then it's up to us to...un-compromise it", she added. "It may be a test, yes. But do they expect us to react accordingly to the situations or do they expect us to simply follow orders?", she asked. The Vulcan pondered that again, his own thoughts on the matter somewhat skewed right now. It was true that they were in unusual circumstances, but that in itself did not warrant a challenge to the command structure of the ship. Then again, if something had happened to the command team, then it was their duty to respond. "As I have said. The only path open to us now is to continue to observe until we are certain of the situation that may, or may not be evolving. In essence, prudence and tactful inaction is required at this time", said Kurrik. Porsa shook her head, the uncertainty obviously growing exponentially within her now. "I guess", she answered, although in actual fact, she did not... The Lab unit was clear as all those who would be staffing were busy throughout the deck on high alert. "The replicator is over on the far wall opposite the lab entrance, if you want to go ahead and get a smoothie, there should be no line right now. I'm gonna go ahead and get things set up with the equipment. As far as my order, I am not a very picky person, if you'd like you can go ahead and surprise me." Not having the Captain aboard and being out of touch with the rest of the crew was a little annoying but very necessary given the situation. Harrison turned his attention back to the latest security reports. Noticing that Ensign Frost was in Security station Gamma, he tapped his combadge and said, “Walker to Frost.” (Reply Frost) “Can you give me an update on the search? Have you or the marines turned up anything yet?” (Reply Frost) “Excellent. Keep me informed.” (Reply Frost) (Reply Tsukawa, Frost, any) (Posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Spectre – Sickbay – ACMO Ensign(Jg) N’Dar – 22:40) The atmosphere aboard ship could almost be described as oppressive and had been it from the first day she had come aboard. The tension amongst the ranks unacknowledged by the majority and yet ever present hanging in the air like early morning mist. The strain hinted at in the voices of the officers and crew as orders were issued and received, the whispers of it echoed in the passing thoughts and unspoken curses she chanced to overhear during those briefest encounters with the rank and file as they hurried to carried out their assigned tasks. Thankfully, her dealings with the majority of the ships company were limited given that her assigned quarters shared the same deck as sickbay and the distance between the two little more than a short walk down the primary corridor. That coupled with the CMO’s decision to assign her to the graveyard duty shift until he could think of what to do with her ensured that at least for the time being that even those encounters in the workplace were of the briefest kind. … The doors to sickbay issued a soft chime as they parted, N’Dar not yet clearing the threshold when she came face-to-face with a waiting Lt Carter the duty nurse and staff supervisor for night shift who offered an upward glance and the briefest hints of a smile as she lifted a pair of hyposprays eye level.” Good evening Doctor N’Dar.” “ Good evening Nurse Carter.” N’Dar responded in kind as she eyed the pair of hyposprays a brief moment before offering Carter a questioning look. “ 10cc Neuralproxi serum E...” Carter announced handing her the first hypospray.”You records have it annotated that you require every 3 to 4 days.” N’Dar nodded her understanding taking the .” My records show that its suggested that I have a 10cc dose every 3 to 4 days. It is not really a requirement.” Carter nodded her understanding.”Still my charts show that you have not had an injection since you came aboard and let's face it Doctors, even one hundred year old Vulcan teenagers like yourself are notoriously bad at taking care of themselves.” N’Dar signed her annoyance as she pressed the injector to her arm and injecting the set dosage.” And the second hypospray is for ?” Carter smile collecting the first hyprospray and handing over the second.” A mild suppressant for pain. CMO issued a medical alert that all telepathic species aboard ship might report in mild discomfort, pain or nausea as a result of exposure to some unidentified vector aboard ship. Your profile was flagged given your high T rating.” Again N’Dar nodded, the sharp hiss of the injector sounding as she pressed it against her arm near where she had placed the first.” Thank you, that was most thoughtful. ” She offered noting Nurse Carter’s expression. “ Can we assume then that given your knowledge of my have medical records and the fact that you are even aware that I have a T-Rating that my StarFleet Personnel file and medical records cleared and that the CMO is reviewing them.” Carter offered a hint of a smirk as she nodded her head. “ He will no doubt as soon as he returns from the away mission.” N’Dar nodded again. “Can we also assume that you yourself have reviewed my Starfleet Personnel file and medical records.” Carter’s smile broadened considerably.” I have never heard of an emotional Vulcan, and one that surf’s as a pass time. The very thought of it just kind of calls to mind all these questions that I’ve always wanted to ask?” N’Dar found herself frowning.” Emotional is perhaps overstating my medical condition, as for the surfing … I find it to be a very positive recreational activity that allows one to achieve an almost enlightened meditative state while at the same time meeting my fitness needs.” “ A surfing Vulcan … “ Nurse Carter couldn’t help but chuckle at the assumed revelation. “ Indeed … “ N’Dar found herself reply in characteristically Vulcan manner as she started across the room to the replicator to collect her first cup of the day. It had been a long day and she was glad that it was nearly time to go. She tapped the last part of her report into the patient PADD and placed it on the pile of patient records. She leaned back in the chair and massaged the kinks in her neck before getting up. She saw Dr N’Dar heading for the replicator after her twenty questions from Carter. ~Poor Dr N’Dar~ She picked up the pile of PADDs and headed towards the nurse station so that she could file them before going off shift. She nodded to Dr N’Dar as she walked past. “Good evening Dr N’Dar how are you doing to night?” (Reply N’Dar) (Reply N’Dar, any) (Posted by Robbie) =======================================================================
