"Oh my, is that a Borg I spy, I do declare it certainly is", said H'Chir Andrew nodded. D’Alin gaped at the gentleman from Engineering, not certain entirely what to say. Realising that she was resembling a goldfish, she forced her mouth shut and managed a nod, unable to say anything. He was certainly nothing like she’d expected "Someone ordered a forcefield, complicated in nature and as Blue as can be", said H'Chir, "....or was it Green.” "No matter, a forcefield is a forcefield and a forcefield is precisely what you shall have Ensign Tethys, whatever colour it happens to be", “Thank…thank you, whichever colour will be fine.” Once the words were out, it was a lot easier to talk and she struggled to regain her composure, reminding herself that she was meant to be an officer in Starfleet and that being rendered speechless by the unexpected would not stand her in good stead. "I'm just going to tap into the EPS system nodes and run an interface link to the beam emitters", said H'Chir "I can give you multiphasic shielding within a two metre proximity of our.....", "...our friend here", said H'Chir motioning towards the drone with a nod of his head before continuing on with a series of tests on the interface device. “That would be perfect, thank you. As long as she can’t wander the halls or communicate off the ship, I’m happy” "The interface link will take care of this, the resultant field will be exponentially hi-lo variable and adaptive both in intensity and to the operator, whilst hindering anything containing nanites", said H'Chir, "which reminds me...", "...better not let Lieutenant Donaldson work with her" ~Well that would be unfortunate~ “Is Lieutenant Donaldson…?” She broke off as she remembered what was contained in the staff medical files she’d read when she’d arrived on the ship. ~Great, just go ahead and ask stupid questions!~ She sighed, internally, wondering if she’d ever stop feeling out of her depth or if it was just part of adjusting to a new job. "Do you have a nanite sample at all?" As Andrew watched H’Chir do his job he really hoped that he did not stuff up, being assimilated was not something he wanted to try. “Of course… It’s on the replicator behind you.” "Voila",said H’Chir jubilantly before placing the sample down onto the floor and then exiting safely without a problem. "Is there anything else I can help either of you with?", asked H'Chir. Andrew shook his head. ~Maybe tell me what's making you so happy?~ “Nothing at the moment. Thank you & it was really nice to meet you” "Then I will bid you good day", "Blue blue electric blue......." D’Alin watched H’Chir leave, feeling reasonably certain that things aboard the Spectre could not possibly get any stranger. “Now that we have the force field up and going, Shall we get started?” D’Alin started. She’d forgotten for a moment that Williams was even in the room. “Of course. Great idea.” She leaned over and picked up a hypospray, checking over her shoulder to ensure that the forcefield was up and fully functional and also making sure that the phaser was set to stun but far enough away that the Borg wouldn’t be able to grab it when she woke. “Applying hypospray” She followed her words with actions and heard the gentle hiss as the hypo discharged its contents, such an innocuous sound for what was potentially such a huge action. The eyelid started to flutter as the patient approached consciousness and she looked up at FO Williams, the adrenaline pumping and her body filled with equal parts fear and anticipation. ~Goodness only knows what we’ll find~ (Reply any/none) (Posted by Sherri Pretorius) (USS Spectre - Sickbay Isolation - 2 0f 3, Secondary Adjunct, Unimatrix Zero One - 20:20) The moment the drones eyes had flickered open was the moment it knew that something was not entirely right. It's last recollections had been verifying the allignment of the propulsion intermix coils in preparation for self destruct, that and the data burst leading up to it that signalled the execution of protocol zero zero. Now it was receiving bio visual and audible stimulus only, no collective chorus, no data bursts... nothing. For a moment, the drone simply lay there attempting to process what it was seeing immediately above itself, then suddenly it sat bolt upright at the waist in one smooth, effortless arc before turning it's grey bloodless face towards it's captors, the sensors upon it's skull cap coming into play as it attempted to identify the Starfleet personnel. "Designation - Human - Origin, sector Zero Zero One - life functions cease at destruction of seventh spinal vertebra.... designation - hybrid Vulcan/Human - origin nondescript, identical destruction pathway with forty five degree impact to occipital arch.... death is instantaneous" The drone then swung around on the biobed, it's feet planting firmly upon the floor as it stood and then took one step towards the Spectre officers, it's arm extended in preparation for nanoprobe insertion. "Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated", it began in time honoured Borg monotone fashion. (Reply Williams, Tethys, IYW) The drone then hit the forcefield, the shock jolting it back momentarilly as it detected the threat and then began analysing it for weaknesses as the two officers looked on. "Energy field is multi-phasic, breakdown of matrix occurs at....", said the drone as it extended a small probe into the field itself and then began pulsing a resonant field against it. At that point the forcefield began to glow a lighter blue, then green, then amber as it increased and rotated it's phase exponentially. (Reply Williams, Tethys, IYW) The drone then ceased it's connection to the field and sat back onto the biobed, it's head twitching left and right in short, sharp movements, it's energy levels clearly depleted somewhat from a field overload. "Identify this vessel - logic dictates NCC 8741 - positive identification at.....", said the drone as it faltered and then stumbled to recall the last sensor intercept of the vessel that had attacked and disabled their own. "I'll get right on it sir", said the Ensign, knowing his boss well enough to know that regardless of the amount, things had to be nothing less than perfect for him. Somewhere in the distance, a turbolift opened, it's report registering in the Andorians razor sharp ears and antennae as he watched the Ensign head off to one of the nearby consoles. ~I'll make an engineer of you yet~ It was at about that moment that an officer H'Chir had not seen before came through the doors of main Engineering, looked about a little and then headed directly towards him. ~Ah, you must my NEW Engineer~ thought H'Chir, thinking back to the latest report from the Captain detailing a new arrival to engineering. The man arrived next to him and duly came to attention with a curt response hanging upon his lips. "Sir? Lieutenant Christopher Adams. Just transferred to your command from the USS Humboldt." H'Chir immediately went into action, momentarily startling the new arrival with his unexpected response. "How are you with intermix flow calculations Lieutenant?", he said. (Reply Adams) "Excellent... your up to speed on the mark IV I take it", he added, more as an absolute than a question. (Reply Adams) H'Chir turned about and then motioned the Lieutenant to follow until they had reached the primary engineering console where he then began accessing schematics on the table. "Tell me what you make of this". said H'Chir pointing now to a small flashing red dot showing the discrepancy he had been obsessing about before. (Reply Adams) "You have an hour, by the time that hour is up I don't want to see that red dot on my table, is that understood?", said H'Chir. (Reply Adams) "Ensign Cutter is currently working in Jefferies tube forty two A, you may want to liase with him before you pull the primary feed", said H'Chir. (Reply Adams) H'Chir nodded and then ordered the man to 'carry on' and 'inform him of his progress if anything unexpected occurs', then he turned about and headed back to the warp core, confident in the new Engineers abilities to get the job done. It went without saying of course that despite his questioning probes of Adams'abilities, the Andorian had already familiarized himself with his abilities via his Starfleet record beforehand. And they were of course, excellent. (Reply Adams, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 13, Main Engineering - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 12:49) Lieutenant Christopher Adams stood in the middle of engineering at attention. He had just introduced himself to his new commanding officer, Chief Engineer H'Chir. Without hesitation, the Andorian engineer went right into business. "How are you with intermix flow calculations Lieutenant?" he asked. "Fine, Sir," responded the lieutenant. "I have over a year..." "Excellent..." interrupted the chief engineer. "Your up to speed on the Mark IV I take it." "Of course," replied Adams. "The Humboldt had a Mark IV and the Paladin had three. It was quite a chore to keep those in sync." H'Chir turned around and started to walk away, motioning for Adams to follow. They ended at the main engineering console at the base of the warp core. "Tell me what you make of this," said the chief engineer pointing at the red flashing indicator on the readout. Adams read over the data displayed beneath. "Hmm. It appears that your deuterium flow is running too high and it's caused a variant in your intermix flow. Looks like it's about two percent off of norm." "You have an hour, by the time that hour is up I don't want to see that red dot on my table, is that understood?", said H'Chir. "Understood, sir," replied Adams. "I'm not quite familiar with the ship yet...where equipment is..." Adams trailed off. "Ensign Cutter is currently working in Jefferies tube forty two A, you may want to liase with him before you pull the primary feed", said H'Chir. "Aye, sir. Everything will be in working order within the hour." The chief engineer nodded. "Then carry on. Inform me of your progress if anything unexpected occurs." "Will do, sir, but I don't think I'll run into any problems," said Adams. "The deuterium flow will only be disrupted for no more than five minutes while we recalibrate the magnetic constriction coils on the mater side." The Andorian engineer nodded and walked away. It took Adam about ten minutes fumbling through their computer system before he discovered the diagnostic system. He then ran a level three diagnostic on the magnetic constriction system. Without that system in place the hydrogen fuel couldn't get pumped into the main warp chamber. When the diagnostic system completed, it turned out it wasn't a calibration problem at all. One of the coils was completely fried. The other coils in the segment were overcompensating for the missing coil. "Computer," stated Adams. "What would be the easiest way to gain access to coil 42-J." [Panel MCS42J. Located on deck 10 section 10. Jefferies Tube 42J,] stated the computer. ~Hmmm,~ thought Adams. ~It appears Ensign Cutter is going about this all wrong. I better get up there before he recalibrates and he misaligns the entire coil assembly.~ Adams picked up a tricorder on a nearby table and headed to the turbolift. (reply any) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre – Deck 2, Capps’ Quarters – TAC/ASC, Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 13:00) Calvin armed with his new quarters’ information walk down the corridor counting down the doors. He didn’t have the hardest time finding his room since he had served on the Spectre for a short time before. Some things about the Spectre Calvin remembered well, but there were other things he didn’t remember at all. He stepped up to his door, and the doors swished open. He had taken the privilege of setting up the scanner codes while he was in the security area. He entered into his new living quarters and was not surprised that these quarters were just like any other living space he has had in the past. He took no time into looking for the different features of the room. He knew where the kitchen, bedroom, shower, food replicator and etc were already located. He walked toward the kitchen and replicator with out hesitation. He had not eaten in a couple of hours, and he was craving for a ham cheese sandwich. It wasn’t much, but it would hold him over until dinner. A sandwich with chips was one of Calvin’s favorite lunch meals. He always helped his food go down with the help of sweet tea. After finishing eating, a chime came from the door. Calvin stood and walked to the door, and pressed the button. He immediately saw two operations officers with bags in their hands. No doubt they had the privilege of lugging Calvin’s items from the transporter room to his quarters. Calvin took the bags from the men and put the aside inside of the door way. “Thank you so much. My name is Calvin Capps.” He extended his hands for handshakes from both men. “My name is Green, and this is Hewy. It is nice to meet you.” “Nice to meet you as well, maybe I will see you guys around sometime. Have a pleasant day.” Calvin turned around into his quarters and began to unpack. He had decided to come and have a talk with Roger's. He looked around and saw Rogers working at a console. Andrew grinned. “So this is where you’ve been hiding.” (Reply Rogers) “How are you since you got back with us?” (Reply Rogers) “Thanks, being the FO is defiantly different from the Chief medic.” (Reply Rogers) “I’ve been meaning to ask you. What you were FO who did you juggle every thing. Finally, Adams discovered him, sitting on his knees, tricorder in hand and several of the side panels off laying on the ground beside him. "Ensign. Stop what you are doing," commanded Adams. "Huh? Who are you?" asked the confused ensign. "Lieutenant Adams. Just transferred from the Humboldt. Nice to meet you," said Adams extending his hand. "Okay..." responded Cutter hesitantly. "Nice to meet you, too. Why should I stop? I'm in the middle of calibrating section 42 of the magnetic constriction system. Lieutenant H'Chir ordered me..." "Right," interrupted Adams. "The chief asked me to help you out. I ran a diagnostic on the system and it isn't a calibration problem. Coil 42-J is out. All you are going to do is screw up the system if you finish out your calibration." "Ah. I had no idea." "Is this your first assignment, Ensign?" asked Adams. "Yes, sir. Just out of the Academy for six months now." "Thought so. The number one rule to engineering is to diagnose the real reason behind the problem and make the right fix. What you are doing is just bandaging a larger problem. That will hold for about thirty-six hours tops and then you are going to have the chief breathing down your neck again. Let's go get a spare coil and replace the defective one. That's the right fix." "Oh," replied Cutter. "I had no idea. Thanks, Lieutenant." There was a long pause as both of the officers waited for the other one. "I have no idea where the storage locker is for coils," said Adams breaking the silence. "Lead the way, Ensign." The two officers crawled out of the Jefferies Tube and went to one of the storage bays in order to get a new coil. After half an hour's work of pulling the system off-line and replacing the coil, they had the system back up and going. "Okay," said Adams popping one of the panels back into place. "That should do it. Now run the calibration again. You should see that it's closer to where it should be now." Cutter kneeling down with tricorder in hand scanning the circuitry next to him. "Ah, yes. It's responding quite well. The intermix is now .008% off variant. Well within standard regulations." "Good work, Ensign," said Adams. "Hope you learned something today. Now let's get this all cleaned up and report back to the chief." (reply any) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Deck 13, Main Engineering - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 14:04) Lieutenant Christopher Adams and Ensign Cutter walked through the double doors which divided Engineering from the hallway beyond. They ended their chatting back and forth and started to look around the engineering floor and finally found Chief Engineer H'Chir. "Update on the intermix ratio, sir," said Adams as they approached the chief (reply H'Chir) "It was a blown coil in the magnetic constriction system," said Adams. "The other coils in the that segment were overcompensating for the loss of the one. That is what was giving your variant." (reply H'Chir) "Ensign Cutter led the way. We worked together to pull the coil and replaced it. Everything should be in working order. Check it out," said Adams waving to the main engineering console. (reply H'Chir) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre – Strategic Ops Center – StratOps - Lt. Rogers stood at the center console, where in front of him was the Spectre's shield, engine and weapon statuses. “So this is where you’ve been hiding.” a familiar voice said behind him. Rogers turned and saw Commander Williams. "Yes, sir," Rogers said with a boyish grin. "This place has better toys than SFI," he commented with a grin. “How are you since you got back with us?” "Good, I'm adapting. Quite a culture shock going from SFI field agent back to regular shipborne duty," Rogers added. “Thanks, being the FO is definatly different from the Chief medic," Commander Williams added. Brian let out a laugh, "I remember those days. I went from the junior-ranking counselor on the USS Boudicca to First Officer," Rogers said with a smile. “I’ve been meaning to ask you. When you were FO how did you juggle everything. There just seems so much to get your head around.” "Well, it is at first. Eventually everything becomes second-nature. You aren't having second thoughts, are you, Andrew?" Rogers asked, patting Williams on the shoulder. “No I am not regretting becoming the FO its just a lot more different than I had first expected.” Williams said. "Yeah, command is like that, I suppose. Everybody wants the third pip and the red uniform, they don't tell you about managing the duty rosters, running the second shift, and all the other hassles," Rogers said. (reply Williams) "Still, Commander, I was only first officer for one mission, I reckon at this rate you'll be a much more epic first officer than I was," Rogers said. (reply Williams, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Lieutenant H'Chir - 14:05) "Update on the intermix ratio, sir", came a voice from behind. The Chief turned around and came face to face with Lt Adams and Ensign Cutter. "Ah, so what's the diagnosis then Lieutenant?", said H'Chir. "It was a blown coil in the magnetic constriction system... the other coils in that segment were overcompensating for the loss of the one. That is what was giving your variant", said Adams. H'Chir nodded and then flipped the phase allignment spanner that he was currently holding, end over end in his hand. "I thought as much", said H'Chir, "they were 'supposedly' serviced in space dock, those monkeys need some space time under their belts.... then they would see how things are supposed to be done", he added with a huff. Adams and Cutter simply nodded in response as H'Chir continued on. "The Thirty nine A series is not up to the job, I keep telling them but....oh no, they know better", said H'Chir with a shrug of his shoulders. "Ensign Cutter led the way", said Adams, "we worked together to pull the coil and replaced it. Everything should be in working order. Check it out", said Adams gesturing towards the main engineering console. H'Chir activated the diagnostics and then zero'd in on the errant system, smiling when he noted that the red dot had now left his screen. "Excellent", said the Blue one, "but how long will it last I ask, once we hit high warp on the return run we'll start seeing micro fisures in the casings again", he added. Surprisingly the Ensign's head was very clear, Peter felt no hangover effects from the stimulants he had used the day before. Peter had been asleep for fifteen and a half hours. There was much to be accomplished before his duty shift began at 0800 hours. Peter spoke, "Computer, increase lighting by two levels." The lights in his temporary quarters brightened. Peter stood and walked into the bathroom. After relieving himself he removed his uniform and began a sonic shower. As the sound waves massaged and cleaned his body he stood there arms raised above his head leaning against the shower wall contemplating the events that had transpired the day before. ~I must speak to Doctor Gunnell and ascertain if she plans to inform the Captain about the stimulant, if she insists on reporting the incident I will go to the Captain myself for judgment and punishment.~ Peter thought to himself. Peter exited the sonic shower and put on a clean and pressed uniform. Walking to the replicator Peter ordered something to eat. "Nutritional supplement #7," Peter voiced to the replicator's computer. Peter took his meal and sat at the small round table in the room. The standard meal supplements usually lacked flavor and variety but good nutrition was one Peter's highest priority's when it came to his body. Once he finished his meal Peter placed his dish back into the replicator which promptly dematerialized it. Peter sat down at the desk and began using the computer terminal on it. He accessed the away mission progress report and found that the Borg data download had completed successfully and on schedule yesterday afternoon. Peter then accessed the security department updates, he read that Lt. Ammon Ranae had apprehended a Ferengi crewman in connection to the burglary of Talbot's quarters. The file also indicated the stolen weapon MOD chips had been recovered. Peter tapped his combadge, "Ensign Talbot to Security" =/\=Lt. Barns here go ahead Ensign=/\= the reply came. "Lt. Barns, I was wondering when the security seal on my quarters will be released," Talbot asked. =/\=One moment Ensign...=/\= Barns told Talbot, he looked up the correct information. =/\=That seal was lifted at 0200 hours this morning, all the necessary evidence has been filed for that case. You may enter your quarters whenever you are ready Ensign=/\= the Lt. finished. "Thank you Lt. Please log me out of these temporary quarters effective 0515 hours this morning. I will be returning to my original quarters at that time, Talbot out," Talbot said and closed the com channel. Peter tidied up his temporary abode and left the room after he locked the door he made his way down and around the corridor to his quarters. (reply none) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Crew Quarters - Talbot's Quarters - ACEO Ensign PeterTalbot - 05:20) Talbot entered his quarters and was once again shocked by the damage done by the Ferengi crewman who had earlier robbed him. Peter began cleaning his quarters nearly everything needed to be rearranged or straightened. After and hour of work Peter was finished and everything was back in its place, save a few broken items. Peter sat down for a moment to drink a glass of water and collect his thoughts. He knew he had to speak with Dr. Gunnell and he wanted to be clear when he did so. Peter thought to himself, ~I must make her understand that the stimulant use was a one time occurrence, and that if the Captain needs to be told I will tell him.~ "Computer, what is the location of Dr. Gunnell?" Talbot asked. The computer responded, [Dr. Gunnell is in Ten Forward.] Talbot left his quarters and headed off to meet with Gunnell. He hoped he could convince her that his motives were pure and he only wanted to help the crew of the Spectre complete its mission on the Borg ship. (reply none) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 06:35) Peter entered Ten Forward which was nearly empty this early in the morning. It only took him a moment to spot Dr. Gunnell. She was seated at a table near a window, there was coffee and a pastry of some kind on the table however she was not paying much attention to her breakfast she was mostly gazing out into space. Peter approached her table and said, "Dr. Gunnell I assumed you were an early riser, do you mind if I sit and join you?" (reply Gunnell) Peter thanked the Doctor and sat down across from her. As he sat a server came over and asked if he would like anything, Peter ordered an orange juice. "I noticed the Borg data download was completed yesterday afternoon, were there any problems?" Peter commented and asked to begin the conversation. (reply Gunnell) Peter replied, "Excellent, It is good there were no problems with the transfer." Next he asked, "Doctor, do you plan to inform the Captain about my using the stimulant? Either way I want you to know that I have never done anything like this before and I had only good intentions." Peter waited with much anticipation for the Doctor's reply. He could feel a knot growing in his stomach. ~Please let her understand,~ Peter thought to himself. Just as Dr. Gunnell was about to speak the server returned with Peter's orange juice. Peter looked up at the man and thanked him, the anxiety was now almost taring him apart. (reply Gunnell) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward - Dr Samantha Gunnell - 06:38) Samantha was tired, number crunching the Borg data was not the easiest of tasks to perform without becoming mentally, as well as physically exhausted. She needed a shower too, it wasn't that she was dirty or anything like that, it was just that she needed to feel refreshed again, and under circumstances such as these, nothing but an old style shower ever sufficed. The Captain had found it odd that she had actually made it a pre-requisite that she have access to this the moment she had boarded the Spectre, and H'Chir had scratched his head for a while in regards the request but had capitulated anyway. Humans seemed odd to him at the best of times and the fact that the sonic variety just 'would not do' as she had said, edged him towards ordering two Engineers to replicate and install the equipment forthwith. Seated in the ten forwards lounge though, the shower was not the most important thing in the universe. If there was one thing that the Doctor loved more than anything, it was to gaze out from the relative safety of a ship, onto the vast constructs of space and the mysteries that remained to be discovered. So many undiscovered worlds, so many new puzzles... it was mind boggling. "Dr. Gunnell I assumed you were an early riser, do you mind if I sit and join you?", said a voice from behind. Samantha jumped visibly at the voice, she certainly hadn't expected many to be about as such an early hour. "Ensign Talbot", she said, "I'm... err, well yes, by all means", she added whilst motioning with her hand to the seat opposite. Talbot took the seat and then ordered an Orange juice from the waiter and then settled back into his chair whilst Gunnell picked up her spoon and toyed with the last of her food before spooning a mouthful into her mouth. "I noticed the Borg data download was completed yesterday afternoon, were there any problems?", said Talbot. "No, none at all", said Gunnell, "CRC passed without discrepancy.... however, there were one or two abberant streams that seemed to be discombobulated from the rest of the data, I'm still trying to figure it out", she added. "Excellent, it is good there were no problems with the transfer..... Doctor, do you plan to inform the Captain about my using the stimulant?", said Talbot somewhat sheepishly. "Either way I want you to know that I have never done anything like this before and I had only good intentions", he added. Samantha furrowed her brow slightly at the Ensigns question, the use of any form of stimulant during critical operations such as rare data retrieval was abhorent to her and yet..... she could still see that Talbot had not really meant any harm by his actions. Of course, he wasn't to know that the Doctor's nephew had virtually burned his mind out through erratic use of drugs, hence her reaction upon catching him in the act so to speak. The Doctor returned her spoon to her bowl and then settled her hands onto the table before her. "Well", she said, "it's like this.... in my experience the use of drugs to enhance the capabilities of an individual beyond normal limitations is to be frowned upon", she added. "Let us not forget the Eugenics wars Ensign, and the havok that Khan Noonian Singh let loose upon Earth" (Reply Talbot) Gunnell nodded and then continued. "I agree that stimulants are in no way the same as genetic enhancement Ensign Talbot, but.... oft times the results can be comparable, especially when they are used in excess", said Samantha. (Reply Talbot) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 06:40) Talbot waited and listened carefully to Dr. Gunnell's reply about her response and forth coming actions pertaining to his stimulant use. "Well", she said, "it's like this.... in my experience the use of drugs to enhance the capabilities of an individual beyond normal limitations is to be frowned upon", she added. "Let us not forget the Eugenics wars Ensign, and the havok that Khan Noonian Singh let loose upon Earth" "You're absolutely right Doctor," Peter answered back then commented, "However, a mild stimulant is not quite the same." Nodding her head in agreement with the Ensign Doctor Gunnell continued. "I agree that stimulants are in no way the same as genetic enhancement Ensign Talbot, but.... oft times the results can be comparable, especially when they are used in excess", said Samantha. Talbot lowered his head slightly and looked down at the table he took a drink from his glass and then looked Gunnell directly in the eyes to try and get a read on her feelings about the situation. He could see drug use in some way had touched her life before. Talbot answered, "Very true Doctor, but every case must be measured carefully I believe intent must also be evaluated. As I said my motives were pure and not for self interest or gain..." Peter paused a moment to swallow the huge lump gathering in his throat then continued to speak, "...Doctor I want to take this opportunity to apologize for my lapse in judgment, I am truly sorry and will not make that mistake again." (reply Gunnell) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward - Dr Samantha Gunnell - 06:44) "...Doctor I want to take this opportunity to apologize for my lapse in judgment, I am truly sorry and will not make that mistake again.", said a rather petulant Talbot. Doctor Gunnell took a deep breath in, her shoulders rising slightly as she did so, then she answered the mans almost heartfelt plea for lenience where his CO was concerned. "That is all very well and good but....how do you know that I have not informed the Captain already Ensign?", said Gunnell raising an eyebrow in an almost teasing manner. (Reply Talbot) Samantha quirked her head slightly in an attempt to ease a particularly aching sternocleidomastoid, courtesy of hours of pouring over data of course, then she capitulated. "Ok Ensign Talbot, you win... I won't inform the Captain of this incident, but on one condition only", said Samantha. (Reply Talbot) "It would seem that the Marines are particularly praising of your modifications to their rifles, and have promised you some 'real' alcohol from their 'apparently' non existent store, so...", said Gunnell, her words hanging in the air now, "I would like to sample some of that alcohol with you if I may", she added. (Reply Talbot) Samantha smiled and brushed a hair from her forehead. "So we have a deal then?", said Samantha whilst picking up her glass of a rather boring Synthahol from the table and taking a small sip from within it. (Reply Talbot) "Excellent", said the Doctor, "now, those spurious file fragments that came over with the Borg data......", she added, returning once again, as always to work mode. (Reply Talbot, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 06:45) "...That is all very well and good but....how do you know that I have not informed the Captain already Ensign?", said Gunnell. Peter could tell by sound of Gunnell's voice and facial expression she hadn't told anyone about the incident yet. Peter replied, "Well, I suppose I do not know for sure but I have a suspicion you have not." "Ok Ensign Talbot, you win... I won't inform the Captain of this incident, but on one condition only," said the Doctor. Overjoyed with the her response Peter exclaimed, "Anything you name it Doctor." Dr. Gunnell smiled a bit then proposed an offer to the Ensign, "It would seem that the Marines are particularly praising of your modifications to their rifles, and have promised you some 'real' alcohol from their 'apparently' non existent store, so...I would like to sample some of that alcohol with you if I may", she added. "In fact Doctor, you being there to enjoy a drink with would make the experience more tolerable," Talbot commented. "So we have a deal then?", Doctor Gunnell asked. "Yes we have a deal," Talbot said. "Excellent", said the Doctor, "now, those spurious file fragments that came over with the Borg data......," Gunnell added. Peter replied, "I haven't had a chance to look at any of the data yet. When I get to engineering I'll get started, provided Chief H'Chir doesn't have another assignment for me. In fact I have a few more items to take care of before my shift begins, so I need to get going." (reply Gunnell) Peter drank the last of his orange juice then stood and thanked Gunnell. "Thank you Doctor, I look forward to that drink later," Peter said then turned and walked away. (reply Gunnell, any) (posted by Jonathon (USS Spectre - Ten Forward - Doctor Samantha Gunnell - 06:47) If there was one thing that the Doctor had a particular liking for, it was real alcohol once in a while, her penchance was for fine wine but after spending over four months on a ship where synthehol was the norm, unless you were particularly au fais with the barkeep that is, she would take what she could get. She could only hope that the entire ship hadn't got wind of the fact that the marines had the stuff, otherwise there would be hardly any left. Where had they got it though? The rumour mill had said that the Marines had launched a daring raid on Councillor Taxia's office and had stolen the stuff, whether that was true or just another Marine high jinx story was neither here nor there, the fact was they had it. Allowing her thoughts to return to the matter in hand, Samantha listened to the Ensigns answer in regards the odd data they had received, it was a strange one to say the very least.... they were almost acting like a virus. "I haven't had a chance to look at any of the data yet", said Talbot looking somewhat relieved now that his stimulant use would remain between the two of them. "When I get to engineering I'll get started, provided Chief H'Chir doesn't have another assignment for me. In fact I have a few more items to take care of before my shift begins, so I need to get going.", he added. Gunnell nodded and raised her glass in the air. "Here's to the real stuff then, let me know when you've taken delivery", she said, and at that, Talbot finished his own drink, mentioned that he would look forward to 'the real stuff' sometime and then headed out, leaving Samantha to return her gaze to the mysteries of the cosmos once more. Peter was reading a maintenance log and noticed the work was signed off on by a Lt. Adams. Peter was not aware of anyone named Adams in the engineering department. He went to the duty roster and saw on the board Lt. Christopher Adams. scheduled today shift beginning at 0800 hours. Peter continued to look at the maintenance logs. Dueterium exhaust filters were due to be changed and there were three requisitions for replicator repairs on deck 8. Peter walked over to the main engineering console and tapped a few keys. ~Everything inside normal parameters, what a surprise.~ Peter thought to himself. Peter looked at the time display on the main console... 07:57. ~H'Chir should be here right about...~ Peter glanced over at the main entrance to engineering and in walked the Chief. As it was though, this particular arrival had been both rude and abrupt, but for the moment anyway the Captain let it lie whilst Rogers waltzed in, his usual relaxed candor very much in evidence as he helped himself to the CO's replicator. "Captain T'Vhor......When you don't give me anything to do, I spend my days drinking in the Orion slave girl holo program", said a somewhat disgruntled Rogers. The Captain raised an eyebrow and wondered what flippancies the SFI man would throw at him next. "I trust that you are not having a good morning Lieutenant Commander?", he enquired rhetorically. "See, it's morning to you, but I haven't gone to bed yet", said Rogers as he quickly went on to give the replicator it's orders, requesting a black coffee in the process as he did so. "Is there anything else bothering you Mr Rogers?", said the Captain. "Something is wrong with my quarters, too, Captain", barked the Lieutenant Commander, "the powergrid isn't fully powering it, or something. Replicator and sonic shower on the fritz", he added. "Then I suggest that you inform Lieutenant H'Chir and have it rememdied", said the Captain still holding on to his relaxed Vulcan candor whilst slowly, his Betazoid heritage began to seep in. "Right, Engineering. I'll call them straightaway", said the SFI man moving his hand up towards his combadge to do exactly that, which was precisely the moment that the Captain had decided that Rogers had gone far enough. "Not so fast Lieutenant Commander", he snapped, "you will calm yourself down and take a seat before you do anything else", said the CO, "we will discuss your 'gripes', in a moment but first you will adopt a civilized manner and apologize for your present behaviour" (Reply Rogers) "Absolutely....you do not come barging into my ready room unannounced and hollering about 'My' not giving you something to do, whilst helping yourself to my replicator facilities", said the Captain, "and furthermore, you should also be thankful that you were not thrown out of Starfleet two days ago", he added, referring back to their discussion regarding Admiral Jefferson's decision to recal him for dismissal, and himself then rescueing the Lieutenant Commanders career with a subsequent and hasty transfer to strategic operations. He had received the communication during the data up load from the Borg ship. He had a good idea who it was from but had not opened it until now. He activated the PADD and waited for the text to appear on the screen. One glance confirmed what he had always feared. Dear Commander Williams Referring to your communiqué about the whereabouts’ of your sister, Captain Audrey Williams at the battle of Betazed. After searching through the post-battle reports and interviews we have found no information leading to the survival of Captain Audrey Williams or her ship. It was mentioned from the interviews from the crew that Captain Audrey Williams ordered the ship to be abandoned and steered it away from the other ships before its warp core ruptured. Captain Audrey Williams will be added to the MIA list. I am sorry for you loss… Andrew threw the PADD onto the floor. ~So it’s official then. Audrey’s dead. I am the last~ He had been hoping that by some miracle she had survived. He got up and looked at the small photo of his family. It had been taken on one of their infrequent trips of earth, on a small beach on the south Pembrokeshire coast in Wales. It was of the whole family at a time where everything was happy and safe. He gave a sad smile at the photo and then headed for the door. He needed to get out of the encroaching walls of the quarters and walk. He needed to think and walking through the ship seemed to help him accomplish that. H'Chir simply pursed his lips and passed them by, an urge to begin singing again crossing his mind as he did so. ~Perhaps I shouldn't, don't wanna give Williams anything else to moan about right now~ The Andorian rounded the corner up ahead and 'skipped' almost happily into his domain, only to be greeted with an equally cheery... "Good Morning Sir" "Is it Ensign? I wasn't aware, space is space.... always black. Well, it was last time I looked out of a window", said H'Chir. Talbot raised both his eyebrows at the remark but said nothing more on the matter, whilst H'Chir checked the logs for anything that might have gone fzzt during the night. "Chief I was looking at the schedule for today, who is Lt. Adams?", asked Talbot. The Andorian continued to scan the logs, answering the Ensign without taking his eyes from the screen. "Lieutenant Junior Grade, Christopher Adams", said H'Chir, "transferred over from the squid... umm, Humboldt yesterday, fixer of constriction assembly coils extraordinaire", he added. "Always nice to have another set of hands around", said Talbot pausing momentarilly before continuing on. "Since he has seniority should I expect a transfer to Beta shift sir?", he added. The ex SFI man had accepted his reassignment two days beforehand with a somewhat guarded sceptisism, in truth he had appeared as though it had all been a joke, not knowing the real reasons behind his prompt redirect to the StratOps department and all. As it was though, the CO had chosen to omit the part where Jefferson had positively smiled upon giving the news that Rogers was to be effectively mothballed. Ok, so he had ruffled a few feathers back on Earth, but that was no reason to end a mans career! The Captain drew his hands together in front of him, then he made it a little clearer. "Lieutenant Commander...", he began, "Brian, two days ago I recieved a communique from Admiral Jefferson requesting your return to Earth, you were to be debriefed and, effectively, removed from active service... never to wear a starfleet uniform again", said the Captain. (Reply Rogers) "It would seem that some of your actions were, how shall I say.... not in keeping with what Starfleet inteligence was used to", said the Captain. "As long as both are completed then I'll be satisfied", he added before promptly disappearing through the door and taking a seat behind his desk in preparation for the arduous reports to Starfleet, that were already long overdue and being insisted upon now by the CO. The Chief pondered that for just a moment, then he kicked back in his chair, PADD in hand to begin his report. ~On second thoughts, why don't I just do the Deuterium filters~ he mused, then looking down at the PADD, he decided against it, for now anyway. Talbot had very little tolerance for sarcasm, especially when related to his superior officer. Talbot moved the conversation back to a work related topic. "The filters should only take three hours to complete," added the Ensign. "I will be able to assist you with the replicators after lunch if you need." Adams looked at the PADD he was holding then replied, "It doesn't sound too bad. I'll know more once I get started. These look like the same model we used on the Humboldt." "Speaking of lunch," added Talbot. "I normally eat alone, however I have a few departmental concerns I'd like to run by you. We could discuss them at lunch if you would not mind." "I'd love to," responded Adams. "This is only the second day I've been on board. I haven't had a chance to meet anyone. That would be great. When and where?" Talbot considered the question a moment then responded with in his mind the only logical time and location, "Officer's mess, 1200 hours." (reply Adams) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Deck 13, Main Engineering - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 08:09) Lieutenant Christopher Adams stood with fellow engineering officer Ensign Peter Talbot deciding where they wanted to meet up for lunch after their morning assignments were complete. "Speaking of lunch," state Talbot. "I normally eat alone, however I have a few departmental concerns I'd like to run by you. We could discuss them at lunch if you would not mind." "I'd love to," responded Adams. "This is only the second day I've been on board. I haven't had a chance to meet anyone. That would be great. When and where?" "Officer's mess, 1200 hours," stated the ensign. "Sounds good," responded Adams. "See you there." With that, Adams picked up a standard engineering tool case and headed out of the double doors which separated Engineering from the rest of Deck 13. (reply none, Talbot IYW) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - CEO, Lieutenant H'Chir - 08:14) All at once, the PADD disolved into something else. For a moment, the Chief had been holding it and observing the numerical data scrolling up it's surface, then there was a face! "No!", cried H'Chir immediately recognising the face as Temar, the Romulan tasked with the systematic disassembly and re-programming of his mind during the Betazed mission as he threw it upon the table. H'Chir spun around quickly, the walls of his office transforming into those of the interrogation chamber he had been held in, his hands went up to the sides of his head, his eyes screwed tightly closed in denial as the horrible realisation set in. He was having flashbacks again. "Go away, leave me alone!", cried the CEO, "Korak!", his eyes opening to his office once again, no Tal'Shiar, no Temar, no interrogation chamber, just the four beige walls of his office. H'Chir slumped in his chair and exhaled heavily. He grasped the PADD and looked again at the numbers upon it, everything was back to normal. The Andorian closed his eyes briefly, then upon opening them he reached up to tap at his combadge. "H'Chir to sickbay" (Reply Any in Sickbay) "I think I need to speak to someone again", said H'Chir reluctantly, "it would seem that Temar has resurfaced" (Reply Sickbay) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - ACMO, Dr. Michaella Kirien - 08:18) Michaella had just finished a routine post operation physical when the call came into sickbay from H'Chir. One of the nurses looked at her. While it was true that Michaella had done everything medical from pediatrician to counseling, she hadn't counselled in many years and this call sounded odd to her. She nodded that she would take it. "Lt. This is Dr. Kirien. Would you mind coming to my Office and we'll discuss this? Do you need an escort?" She asked, recognizing the tone of his voice as someone that might need assistance. (reply H'Chir, any) (posted by Mel) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - CEO, Lt H'Chir - 08:19) H'Chir flustered once again, his antennae moving wildly on top of his white haired blue cranium at the very mention of him needing assistance. "Certainly not", he said, "Doctor Kirien, I've had an episode, I am NOT incapacitated.... where is Doctor Williams by the way?", he added, the fact that the man in question was now the ships first officer seemingly not registering with him at that particular moment in time. (Reply Kirien) "Figures", said the andorian with a huff, "I'll come to sickbay right away... but you will need to access the files dealing with my abduction", he added. "I really am not in the mood to go through it ALL again" (Reply Kirien, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 09:21) Peter had been working on the filter replacement task for about an hour. He was ready to remove the deuterium manifold and old filter, doing this would require him to shutdown the deuterium flow and take the warp core offline. Talbot touched his combadge and said, "Talbot to Ops." (reply Chenoll) "Sir, The warp core will be offline for 30 minutes for deuterium filter replacement. Backup power systems will be fully operational and active." Talbot reported. (reply Chenoll) The Chief Operations officer seemed unsure about the core being offline so Talbot tried to reassure him, "Chief H'Chir scheduled this standard maintenance procedure." After hearing that the CEO had ordered the work Chenoll seemed less concerned. (reply Chenoll) "Warp core will go offline in 1 minute," Talbot announced. (reply Chenoll) Talbot closed the com channel. With the go ahead from operations he took the core offline and continued his work with the deuterium filters and manifold. (Reply Lyndstrom) It was most strange, the spurious fragments seemed to contain a virus of some kind but it was not like any spaceborne virus Gunnell had ever seen. It appeared to be part synthetic and of Borg origin, not the usual nano variant but something else entirely. If that was correct then it was quite feasable to assume that this was an attempt to infiltrate a living organism within the river... but what kind of organism could be existing in a subspace conduit? "So what do we have?", said Gunnell turning towards Lyndstrom. (Reply Lyndstrom) Samantha furrowed her brow in confusion and ran a hand through her hair. "The Borg have never attempted this kind of infiltration into anything other than a living being, this doesn't make sense", said the Doctor pausing briefly and then tapping the combadge she'd been given upon her arrival on board. "Doctor Gunnell to Captain T'Vhor, please respond", she said, biting at her lower lip now as she awaited the Captain's response. =/\=How may I help you Doctor?=/\= Came the reply. "I need another probe", said Gunnell, "this time I want it calibrated for micro-organism detection plus wideband filtration of anything that might be existing in the subspace flow itself", she added. A momentary pause followed, obviously the result of the CO's own analysis of the implications of what the Doctor was suggesting. =/\=Am I correct to assume that you suspect a lifeform to be hiding within the river Doctor?=/\= "I'm not sure", said Gunnell, "I'm beginning to feel that we might be dealing with something very VERY different here... it would seem that the Borg know something about the river that we don't, and they have been acting upon it", she added. Another pause followed. =/\=You will have your probe within the hour Doctor=/\= "Thank you Captain, if I'm correct on this.... what we currently know of the river is going to have to be completely re-written", said Samantha. =/\=I am intrigued Doctor, please, keep me informed of your findings the moment you know more=/\= "You can count on it, Gunnell out", said the Doctor as she swung herself back over to the primary console whilst addressing Lyndstrom once more. "Prepare a baseline sample of the subspace material from earlier, I want to run some RNA protocol tests on it", said Gunnell. (Reply Lyndstrom, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 3, Astrophysics Lab - Mariana Allison Lyndstrom - 09:44) Marianne was on duty in the Astrophysics lab when Dr. Gunnell came into to begin analyzing the data sent over from the Borg vessel. They had begun nearly an hour ago and were starting to see some peculiar readings "Run that last test again will you, I want to be absolutely sure on this," Dr. Gunnell said to Lyndstrom. "I'm on it Sam," Mariana said in a very casual way to her friend. Gunnell and Lyndstrom had it off really well when the Doctor came on board, and Mariana knew Samantha wouldn't mind her informalness. "So what do we have?", the Samantha said to Mariana. Mariana replied while looking at the test results, "Looks the same as the first test definitely a nanite virus of some kind." Mariana looked over at Samantha who looked somewhat confused. Gunnell made a comment about the Borg never using nanite technology on a non living being before then she tapped her combadge and made her report to the Captain. After finishing her com channel conversation with the Captain Samantha turned and again addressed Mariana. "Prepare a baseline sample of the subspace material from earlier, I want to run some RNA protocol tests on it", said Gunnell. "Okay Sam I'll extrapolate the sample," replied Mariana and she continued, "I'm going to call sickbay and get a medical opinion in case we are dealing with a life form of some kind." She tapped her combadge and said, "Lyndstrom to sickbay." (reply Tethys) "Doctor Tethys if you can spare some time we could use a medical eye here in the Astrophysics Lab," Lyndstrom said. (reply Tethys) "Thank you Doctor," Mariana said then closed the com channel. Mariana began tapping keys on her console to prepare the sample for Doctors Gunnell and Tethys to examine. (reply any) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:46) Doctor Gunnell had seemed anxious, her last communique had hinted at a lifeform of some kind hiding within the river and yet, all scans so far had failed to reveal any such entity. With trepidation the Captain opened a channel to Engineering. "Bridge to Engineering" (Reply Adam's or Talbot) The resultant reply was not as expected, the Captain had wondered why the CEO had not answered the hail and only been informed that he had felt the need to attend sickbay, as it was though the officer now talking was more than capable of accomodating the CO's request regardless of the fact that he had already been tasked with another job so with that, T'Vhor layed out his requirements. "I need a class IV probe at the ready within the hour, full stellar analysis capabilities plus biospectral imaging and sampling", said the Captain. (Reply Adams or Talbot) "That can wait for now, this now takes precedence so I suggest that you begin immediately, inform me the moment the probe is readied for launch", said the Captain. (Reply Adams or Talbot) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 09:47) Talbot was still busy working on changing out the deuterium filters when the com system came to life with the Captains voice. =/\=Bridge to Engineering=/\= Talbot had seen Chief H'Chir leave the engineering section an hour and half earlier so he answered the call. After tapping his combadge Talbot replied, "Talbot here go ahead Captain." =/\=I need a class IV probe at the ready within the hour, full stellar analysis capabilities plus biospectral imaging and sampling=/\= said the Captain. Talbot replied, "Captain, I was in the middle of replacing the deuterium filters..." the Captain cut off Talbot's reply before he could finish. =/\=That can wait for now, this now takes precedence so I suggest that you begin immediately, inform me the moment the probe is readied for launch=/\= said the Captain. "Sir, the deuterium manifold is disassembled at this moment, warp power is currently offline and cannot be restored until I finish. I notified operations of this 20 minutes ago," Talbot tried to explain without sounding insubordinate. (reply T'Vhor) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:49) =/\=I notified operations of this 20 minutes ago=/\= came the reply from Ensign Talbot.... He was correct of course, he had indeed notified the COPS of their warp system maintenance but the fact still remained that the probe needed to be prepared as directed and warp power was essentially not required for a probe specification change. "How long will you require to complete the current task Ensign?", asked the Captain. (Reply Talbot) "Very well, have someone run preliminary checks and module plugins on a class IV probe, assist them the moment you have completed your current assignment and inform me when the probe is ready", said the Captain. (Reply Talbot) "Understood, bridge out", said the Captain as he then opened a channel to Doctor Gunnell. "Bridge to Doctor Gunnell" =/\=Gunnell here Captain, is my probe ready already?=/\= "Not exactly Doctor, we are currently undergoing routine warp system maintenance necessitating a brief core shutdown... Engineering will provide your probe the moment they are able", said the Captain. =/\=Ok, I guess I'll have to wait then.... but Captain, I cannot stress further the importance of this exercise=/\= "I am aware of that Doctor, unfortunately the delay is unavoidable", said the Captain, "you will be informed the moment the probe is ready", he added. A brief silence then followed. =/\=Captain T'Vhor, what would you say if I hypothesized that the river was actually alive?=/\= The Captain raised an eyebrow at the notion. "Are you saying that you feel that to be the case Doctor?", enquired the Captain. =/\=As I said Captain, this is a working hypothesis only..... but my data is tending to lean towards some such possibility, hence my urgency for my probe=/\= The hybrid CO quirked his head slightly and then answered the Doctor with a simple and very Vulcan 'fascinating'... =/\=Get me that probe Captain and I'll rewrite the book on our current understanding of the river=/\= "You will have it Doctor, as soon as it is ready for launch. Bridge out", said the Captain as the channel closed and he began inputting commands upon his armrest console, obviously intent now on verifying certain facts for himself. (Reply Talbot, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 13 - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 09:50) The Captain did not sound at all distressed about the warp core maintenance. However he did seem very anxious to have the probe made operational immediately. =/\=How long will you require to complete the current task Ensign?=/\= asked the Captain. Talbot responded, "Approximately, 17 minutes sir." =/\=Very well, have someone run preliminary checks and module plugins on a class IV probe, assist them the moment you have completed your current assignment and inform me when the probe is ready=/\= T'Vhor ordered. "Aye Captain, I will put crewmen Lynch and Diaz to work on the probe," Talbot replied. =/\=Understood, bridge out=/\= said the Captain. Once the Captain closed the com channel Talbot shouted across the deck calling over two crewmen who were working on the other side of the warp core. "Diaz, Lynch," Ensign Talbot shouted. The men moved quickly over to their superior officer. "Yes sir," said Diaz. "You two head to probe storage and bring a class IV to the launcher, run a full systems diagnostic on the unit and an interface test. I will meet there to program the probe," Talbot ordered. "Aye sir," the two men replied in unison and they headed off as ordered. Talbot got back to work with the Deuterium filter exchange so the warp core could be brought back online. (reply any IYW) (posted by Anton) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 10:20) The mood on the bridge of the USS Spectre could best be described right now as 'relaxed', well, as relaxed as a starship bridge could get anyway for in truth, there was always some degree of tension during any mission. Relaxed though was about as good as it got.... It was about to get a little different. The first indication of anything out of the norm occurring or beginning to occur was the empathic senses of her CO registering what could only be described as a 'blip', the Captain had felt them before of course, it was all part and parcel of being an empath amongst a crew of hundreds. This 'blip' however had not been like any other he had experienced and could really only be described as a consciousness of some sort awakening. And this was not a small consciousness... The report from Engineering had yet to come back, which meant that the ships warp drive was still offline, reserve power would give them impulse drive and maneuvering thrusters, plus partial shielding for a limited time only. With this in mind the CO raised Engineering. "Bridge to Engineering", he said sharply. (Reply Talbot) "Where is my warp drive Ensign?", said the Captain, "you are now over fifteen minutes past your own completion time" (Reply Talbot) The Captain furrowed his brow as the previous feeling returned within his mind, something was about to happen, he wasn't sure what but he WAS sure of it. He glanced around the bridge briefly, observing each officer as they worked at their respective stations in their 'relaxed' modes of operation, then he turned his attention to the viewscreen whilst briefly addressing the Tactical officer. "Are we showing anything unusual on sensors?", he enquired. (Reply Tactical) ~Most unusual~ thought the CO as he pondered the facts given, nothing showing on sensors, nothing visible in the viewscreen, everything was showing as normal. The Captain then returned his attention to Talbot in Engineering. "I want warp power as soon as you are able Ensign, make it a priority", he said. (Reply Talbot) "Understood, bridge out", said the Captain, just as the feeling returned once again. This time the Captain took the only option open to him, irrespective of the conflicting logic involved in it. If there was one thing that as a Vulcan hybrid he never denied, it was his own empathic ability to sense impending danger. "Take us to yellow alert", he ordered, knowing of course that whilst running on minimal power, yellow alert would still leave them compromised to an extent. With that in mind though the safety of his ship and crew were now paramount in his thoughts and it was better to act proactively than not at all. (Reply Talbot, Tactical, Ops, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Bridge – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 10:21) To Calvin it felt nice being on the bridge again. For months he sat in a chair behind a desk doing what ever it was the Admiral wanted. It got old fast, and some bridge duty put Calvin back at ease with his Starfleet life. There wasn’t much happening on the bridge. Just the standard readouts and scans that one might do when there seemed to be nothing happening. That is why it was weird to Calvin when the Captain began to ask Engineering for his warp drive. Calvin has known Captain T’Vhor for a long time and it could be hard to read him, but he knew T’Vhor was thinking something. "Are we showing anything unusual on sensors?", he enquired. “No sir,” Calvin answered quickly as nothing had shown on his sensors. Calvin ran his fingers over his board, and ran through the different sectors of the ship. He checked on inner and outer sensors, but wasn’t able to find anything. He was puzzled with what the Captain knew. "Take us to yellow alert,” the Captain ordered with no warning. “Aye Captain,” Calvin followed orders immediately. Calvin trusted T”Vhor and would follow him to the end. Multiple times had the two of them saved each others lives in the past. Now under yellow alert Calvin began more specific scans: Beta, Theta, Rays, and sounds. Nothing still was popping up on his sensors. There had to be something though. (reply none) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Deck 13 - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 10:21) Talbot had been working furiously to complete the deuterium filter exchange and reassemble the manifold. However he had greatly underestimated the amount of time he would need to finish the project when he last reported to the Captain. He had gone nearly 15 minutes past his estimated time of completion. Peter was within minutes of finishing his work when the Captain's voice came over the com system. =/\=Bridge to Engineering=/\= said the CO of the Spectre. "Talbot here Sir, go ahead." replied Ensign Talbot. =/\=Where is my warp drive Ensign? You are now over fifteen minutes past your own completion time.=/\= the Captain asked. Talbot responded, "I apologize for my miscalculation sir, I will have warp power restored momentarily Captain." There was a pause before the Captain spoke again so Peter finished up his work and closed up the deuterium manifold and began the final diagnostic. =/\=I want warp power as soon as you are able Ensign, make it a priority=/\= Captain T'Vhor replied sounding very concerned. "Aye sir, Diagnostic program is running now warp core will be online in 2 minutes." "Understood, bridge out," said the Captain. The diagnostic program finished, Peter's work was impeccable. He initialized the deuterium flow and began warp core start up procedures. At that moment all the Klaxons in main engineering began flashing yellow. Peter looked at his console the order for yellow alert came from the Captain on the Bridge. "Everyone to your stations, Yellow Alert," Peter shouted out to the crewmen who were scrambling around main engineering. Peter decide he should call Lt. Adams back to engineering for assistance while the ship was at Yellow Alert. "Ensign Talbot to Lt. Adams," said Talbot over the com system. (reply Adams) "Sir, I could use a hand down here in main engineering, The Captain has asked me to prepare a probe and the Chief is in sickbay," Talbot said. (reply Adams) "Thank you Lt. (reply T'Vhor) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor and Dr Samantha Gunnell - 10:26) Tension on the bridge had now escalated way past the 'relaxed' condition of earlier, something was definately happening and the TAC officer was seeing some unusual readings on his console that begged the attendance of their mission specialist. The Captain had called for Dr Gunnell moments beforehand and with a swish of the bridge doors, she had entered and taken up station on Science Two without a single word. ~I could use warp power right about now Mr Talbot~ thought the Captain as he scanned his armrest controls noting that main power was still offline, then as if prompted by some sixth sense, Engineering reported in to the accompaniment of rising power indicators. =/\=Talbot to Captain T'Vhor=/\= "Go ahead Ensign", said the Captain, somewhat relieved now that the power indicators were lighting up across his console. =/\=Warp power is back online sir......Sir I am now on my way to finish preparing the probe for the subspace river=/\= "Excellent work Mr Talbot", said the Captain as he quickly verified full power to all systems whilst from behind, the TAC officer concurred that all systems were now powering up accordingly. "Stand by for further orders, bridge out", added the Captain as he quickly opened a channel to Major Kowalski on the Borg ship and arranged beam out for them. The Captain then turned his attention towards Doctor Gunnell who was now working furiously at her console in an attempt to make some sense of what was happening, before turning abruptly towards him. "Captain, levels in the river are building exponentially, we may need to withdraw to a safer distance", said Gunnell, the urgency in her voice apparent now to all on the bridge. The Captain knew better than to second guess the good Doctor and ordered it so, immediately after he had verified that the Marine and Security details were back onboard of course. "Helm, take us away from the river, ten thousand kilometres, full impulse", he ordered. (Reply Helm) The ship then backed away from the glowing entity that now filled their viewscreen almost to it's entirety, then in an instance, one section of the rivers substance appeared to lash out at the Borg vessel to send it spinning off like a ball that had just been hit by a bat. Captain T'Vhor furrowed his brow. "Red alert", he cried and the bridge was suddenly bathed in the red pulsating glow of the alert annunciators whilst throughout the ship, the klaxons sounded. (Reply Talbot IYW, Helm, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Bridge – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 10:27) With some information known to the officers on the bridge was helpful. It seemed the river was the reason the Captain had began his cautious approach to the unknown. The river had turned bright blue and had given elevated level readings. Astonished, Calvin looked up at the viewscreen and the river momentarily peaked at a very high level. Calvin watched as a band of the river smacked the borg ship knocking it across space. "Red alert,” the Captain ordered, and Calvin complied. The tactical officer who was enjoying his new found time on bridge duty couldn’t believe that something magnificent such as this happened so fast after his comeback out in space. (reply any, none) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Deck 13 - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 10:27) As Peter was heading down the main corridor on Deck 13 towards the probe launcher the Captain's reply came across the com system. =/\=Excellent work Mr Talbot...Stand by for further orders, bridge out=/\= Peter continued to the probe launcher. When he entered the section Peter questioned the two crewmen standing near the device. "Diaz report, is the probe ready for final programming," Talbot asked. Diaz answered, "Yes sir." Talbot moved to the programing pad located inside the open device and began taping keys so the probe would be able to transmit the required information back to the Spectre. The Captain had requested full stellar analysis capabilities and biospectral imaging and sampling. The modifications needed for the unit were quite simple, the class IV probes are very advanced and easy to modify. Talbot completed his programming and closed the unit. "Get the probe loaded into the launch tube and wait for the deploy order," Talbot ordered the crewmen. "Talbot to Bridge," Peter said after touching his combadge. (reply T'Vhor) "Captain, the class IV probe is ready for launch," Peter announced. (reply T'Vhor) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor and Doctor Samantha Gunnell - 10:28) This time, something HAD occurred on sensors. The 'blip' was real, not imagined. A positional bearing of ninety, mark two four put the anomaly immediately to their right and just above their horizontal aspect... the river itself! The Captain sat pensive, the fingers of his right hand spanning the side of his face as he contemplated what they were now reading. It seemed that the subspace river was fluctuating in power levels, something that normally did not occur. Doctor Gunnell had of course been summoned to the bridge and had arrived seemingly within seconds to occupy science two and begin reading off the data. "Your thoughts Doctor?", said the CO enquiringly. Gunnell shook her head to indicate that she was as puzzled as he was. "It's not supposed to do that", she said, "whatever is happening is new to us, perhaps something to do with what the Borg were doing here", she postulated. The Captain nodded, his nod barely completing when the 'blip' returned again at a much elevated level. This time the viewscreen showed the river glowing an electric blue as it moved slightly towards the Borg vessel. The Captain immediately responded. "Spectre to Kowalski", he began. =/\=Kowalski here=/\= came the reply, tinged as it was with static, no doubt from the rivers pulsations. "Do you have navigational control of the Borg ship Major?", asked the CO. =/\=We have....s.... contr......naviga...s...=/\= The reply was becoming more garbled, the result of the build up of static of course. "Major, we are not reading you well. Rogers felt like some mad genius about to launch antimatter bombs at Earth. He wasn't a genius, but the jury was still out on his sanity. Suddenly, the room shifted to red, and blaring klaxons hit his eardrums. He braced himself on the console and looked down, quickly looking over the several maps, status displays and tactical maps laid out before him. He entered commands quickly, and a small video played back, showing what the bridge crew had just seen, the Borg ship being hit by some sort of subspace beam and being spun off into Gimbal lock. "What the hell," Rogers said aloud, and entered a few brief commands that played back the video. The tactical overlay next to the video showed the Borg ship was bombarded with energy as she was hit. Rogers thought about relocating to the 'mini' StratOps station on the bridge, but decided to stay put for now. So far, this was not a tactical emeregency. As Andrew surveyed the scene in front of him as he headed for the FO chair, Jennifer went straight to the conn console and slid into the chair. "Captain, levels in the river are building exponentially, we may need to withdraw to a safer distance", said Gunnell "Helm, take us away from the river, ten thousand kilometres, full impulse", he ordered. ”Aye Captain, backing away to ten thousand kilometres at full impulse.” Her hands danced over the console as she backed the ship away and increased the impulse engines to full. Andrew watched in worried fascination as the entity that had almost filled their view screen lashed out at the Borg vessel to send it spinning off like a ball that had just been hit by a bat. He gave a quiet sigh of relief that they had gotten all their personnel off the Borg vessel in time. "Red alert", The bridge turned red as the klaxon screamed. Andrew looked at his arm rest console gathering the data from the different bridge consoles as he rapidly brought himself up to speed with the new developments. Command authorization required to continue] The Computer chirped at Khran. The tall, cut Andorian quickly entered his command code into the panel on the outside of the Holodeck's doors and the blasted machine seemed to accept it. Khran stepped in through the doors and the blank holodeck quickly transformed to a dark cityscape from the planet Tellar Prime. It was dark, and smoke was in the air. Sirens were blaring from the distance and the Major quickly found himself surrounded by 3 holographic Marines and the Tellarite Prime Minister. "We must evacuate, sir. The Romulans are landing in this sector!" One of the holographic Marines shouted to Khran. "Aye," Khran said, grabbing a compression rifle from a downed Marine nearby. "Let's move," he said, and the five of them moved quickly through the streets of Tellar Prime. The planet was being sieged by Romulans. Romulan shuttles were landing and shock troopers were killing everything in sight and setting fires. There was a general choas as the Federation forces on Tellar Prime tried to evacuate the planet. They moved into a small building located off a main street. It was a security station for the Federation forces, and had some weapon supply lockers which had been ransacked, either by the defending Federation or the attacking Romulans. Khran lead his group through the building, where a small, two-person transporter pad was located. Khran moved to the console attached to the pad and began working. "No Federation ships in orbit?" "The USS Cartwright was taken down by the Romulan warbirds. She had to limp out of the system," one of the Marines replied. "We must get out of here!" The Tellarite PM said with great concern. Khran thought it looked as if the large-nosed being was going to soil himself. Then, unannouced, two Romulan shock troopers wearing some sort of green battle armor burst throught the door and fired a disruptor blast, hitting one of the Marines and vaporizing him. Khran and the others fired back, quickly taking down the two enemies. "We need to move, their closing in on our position," Khran declared, and led the group out of the security outpost. As soon as they arrived on the street, another Romulan shock trooper jumped on Khran, knocking him to the ground. The Romulan and Andorian struggled. A second Romulan came up, and drew a great blade from his waist. He swung wildly at Khran, slashing a deep wound in his back, spilling deep blue blood all over everything. Khran screamed out in pain. "Computer, end simulation," he ordered. The burning smell and grizzly sight of the city disappeared, leaving the bleeding Andorian laying on the floor. He managed to roll over on his back, giving a short grunt as he pressed on his wound, and tapped his comm-badge. "Khran to sickbay. I need emergency transport to sickbay," He said weakly. "Now Ensign I want you to keep taking the pain killers for the next twenty four hours and see how you do okay." "Yes Doctor." He gave her a stern look. "Next time use the holodeck safeties. that is what they are there for okay." "Yes Doctor." "Good. now go and get some rest in your quarters and you have follow up in a few weeks." In his new role in Starfleet his first shift was graveyard. It had been a while since the Lt Cmdr had worked that particular shift, so he made sure he slept in later than usual this morning. As on any normal running ship, not a lot of activities happen during these hours. Calvin sat at his desk in the Security Center running through multiple reports including some from the tactical department. Other than the regular shift changes, breaks, and lunches the night had been quiet, so Lt Cmdr Capps decided to go on detail with Team 11 which was located on deck 11. (reply any, none) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre – Deck 11 – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 22:30) Calvin walked down the corridor with one security Petty Officer. They were currently pacing the corridors of deck 11. The Petty Officer was doing an excellent job at describing and explaining what a team normally does on their shifts. “We like to change our pattern around each deck, so that we don’t have a pattern that some one can trace out. A team stays together, but each team will change decks every month. My team started on deck eleven 8 days ago,” explained the Petty Officer. Calvin noticed how the Petty Officer had not been nervous in explaining how the procedures worked, and he also realized how well the Petty Officer knew the ship. “Thank you for your help switching to your department,” Calvin said. The two of them continued to walk until they came to the crew mess. “How often do the teams enter into public areas and secure areas?” asked The Lt Cmdr. “That question is hard to answer. That decision is discretionary. Some teams enter each room every time, others enter sometimes, and if I found out any team never entering then we will be doing some laps.” “So you do expect them to enter at least once?” Calvin pushed forward. “Yes,” answered the crewman emphatically. Their conversation was interrupted by the communicator on the Lt Cmdr’s chest. =/\=Ensign Jones to Lt Cmdr Capps.=/\= Ensign Jones was the officer that Calvin put in place at the Security Center in his place whilst he patrolled the decks with different teams. Ensign Jones had been on the ship for half a year, and his records showed him to be a progressing officer. When Calvin heard Ensign Jones voice it came across as nervous, so the Lt Cmdr immediately knew something was wrong. “Go ahead!” Calvin exclaimed back. The Petty Officer and Calvin stopped in their tracks waiting for Ensign Jones to respond. =/\=Sir we have a security breach in main engineering, side jeffery's tube 3, section 12.=/\= “On our way Ensign!” Calvin turned to the Petty Officer next to him. “Petty Officer Rock, follow me.” The two security officers left for the nearest turbolift. Calvin extended his hand and as hard as he could he hit the switch. The door flew open, and in rushed Petty Officer Rock with his phaser raised. “Halt, Spectre Security!” informed Lt Cmdr Capps to whoever it was inside of the jeffery's tube. (reply any, none) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre – Deck 13 – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 23:01) “Halt, Spectre Security!” informed Lt Cmdr Capps to who ever it was inside of the jeffery's tube. The ASC and the Petty Officer continued to approach the man standing in front of them facing one another. The man was dressed in a Starfleet Engineering uniform and had an Ensign pip on his collar. His eyes were now bulged out, and opened wide. His mouth opened with shock and fear. The intruder dropped a long, skinny, cylinder device. It was an instrument, a tool, specifically an engineering tool. It hit the ground and made a loud pinging noise. The man had clearly mistaken the pinging noise from the tool for a phaser blast. He closed his eyes hard, and retracted his body. Lt Cmdr Capps quickly grabbed for the Ensign and placed small restraints onto his wrist. There was no fight, or struggle. The man simply followed all commands. Petty Officer Rock now seeing no immediate threat put away the phaser. “Sir, identify yourself?” Calvin asked the man in the restraints. “My name is Ensign George Michaels,” he said nervously. “Computer identify the person standing in front of me with description?” asked Calvin. [George Michaels, Rank: Ensign, department: engineering, transferred: 2408.06.07, height: 5’8, weight: 160, hair: black, eyes: brown] “What are you doing in this area Ensign Michaels?” Calvin continued to ask questions. “I was ordered to come here to replace multiple conduits, and to replace 3 GC boards,” replied the Ensign who now was calming down realizing that he wasn’t going to be harmed. “Were you aware you are in a restricted area?” Calvin asked. “No sir, I didn’t.” The Ensign motioned for a padd on the floor near an engineering kit. Calvin motioned the Petty Officer to pick it up. Once Calvin received it he read the contents of the padd. “Ensign Michaels, this padd says you are to report to section 21, not 12,” Calvin informed George. He placed the padd in front of the Ensign so he would be able to read it. “I’m sorry sir, it was a mistake,” the Ensign pleaded his case. “I believe you Ensign Michaels, but I must prove it first. Petty Officer Rock will escort you to a secure security area. While you two wait there, I will verify the orders on this padd, and talk with your immediate supervisor. If everything checks out then you will be freed to go with a very important lesson,” Calvin explained what was going to happen next. “To always read and double verify your orders,” Petty Officer Rock said. Apparently sleep was pointless until he could literally wear himself out. Chuck threw off the sheets and intentionally slid off his bed onto the floor crawling with his fingers until his feet hit the floor. "Okay ... here goes ..." he said starting to push off of the floor in a series of pushups. After a set of ten he alternated between pushup and a sidebar movement leaning on one arm and reaching the other arm to the sky sideways. ~frick, I can't sleep and there's nothing I can do for Judith.~ he thought.
